Speaker A: All right, so in this first show is actually just squeaking in. It is actually tonight as you're hearing this episode, April 4, Thursday it is happy hour at the eleven with the Alec Lewis group. It is a free show, starts at 06:00, goes till 08:00, and if you're not familiar with Alec Lewis group, Alec, of course, is, you know, a member of the Hive, the Jive Hive family. His ep, how are we? Fine was my absolute favorite release of 2022. Has it really been that long? Yeah, I think it was of 2022. He's a friend of mine. He's been on the show a couple of times. Alec Lewis group is playing my 51st birthday party, which is May 18 at single cut, dubbed Andy Palooza two. They're going to be playing there. So love this guy. Love everybody in the band. Love their music. And so right now, I'm going to play a live track from Alec Lewis group. This is off their hive sessions. You can find this on Bandcamp. This is how are we? Fine. Always write and it's here on unsigned 500. Eighteen's weekend spotlight.

Speaker A: All right, that was the Alec Lewis group with how are we? Fine and always. Wright performed live at the jive hive back in February is when that was recorded. And you can get that whole album on the Alec Lewis group's band camp. And they will be playing tonight, Thursday, April 4 at 06:00 at the eleven at Lark hall. Up next, also at Lark hall, this time not in the eleven, but in the actual hall, is Annie in the water, their rescheduled date. They were supposed to play there a couple weeks ago when we got that huge snowstorm, and they rescheduled it. Still on their road to totality tour. And if you haven't already heard the podcast to totality that I did with Michael and Matt of Annie and the water that came over to the Dazzle den. We talked about the tour. We talked about all sorts of stuff and how the tour coincides with the eclipse. And even though the snow screwed up the date, it did not screw up the tour because they managed to reschedule it in time to give Annie in the water a very busy weekend leading into the road to totality finale, which is the eclipse on Monday. So, Annie in the water, Friday, April 5 at Lark hall. For more information, you can visit larkhallalalbany.com. So up next I want to talk about is at the fuse box, we have the hauntings. No such thing as ghost, grape juice and the snorts. Just an absolute killer lineup brought to you by upstate. Black and blue starts at 07:00. Tickets are just $10. And that's four bands. We have the hauntings, no such thing as ghosts, grape juice and the snorts. And what we're going to do right now is play a tune from the snorts. This one is called heart attack, and it's here on unsigned five and eight's weekend spotlight.
• 10:56
Speaker B: Everybody said you wanna be heart attack just a little bit. You've been the one to push me down. You've been the ones that push me in the road all the time. Everybody think you gotta see all the time. Don't believe what's in front of me. You been on to put me down, you better want to put me in the grave.
• 11:41
  Speaker C: Heart attack.
• 11:42
Speaker B: I wanna know what you got a little bit of something over there. Think about what you gotta show. Fire in my heart gonna explode. Whoever one has gone home and I'm asleep at the wheel. Familiar sting. I've been alone and I don't know what I should feel. Do I run around in my head? Do I occupy something else? Can you even hear me singing out loud? Yeah too. I'm singing too burn down, I'm broken down. Yeah. Do I sing it too? A heart attack will take your crown. Heart attack. Everybody said you wanna be heart attack. A little bit of jazz, you and me heart attack. And everybody says you gotta know heart attack.
• 13:13
Speaker A: So that was heart attack from the snorts. And you can catch them on Friday with grape juice. No such thing as ghosts. And the hauntings at the fuse box in Albany starts at 07:00 also on Saturday, I have Ceas Atlantis with head sound playing at single cut. And rather than have me talk about it, we're going to give James Mullen, frontman of season Atlantis, a call and see what's up. What's up, James?
• 13:36
Speaker F: Hey, Andy. How's it going, man? Good to hear from you.
• 13:38
Speaker A: It is going well, man. Yeah, good to. Good to talk to you always. So I was just saying, you know, I mean, obviously this is the weekend spotlight and I was talking about some shows coming up and you're playing with my new friends head sound at one of my favorite places in the capital Region, single cut this weekend. Is that correct?
• 13:57
Speaker F: That is correct, yes. We're head sound new friends of ours as well. It'll actually be the first time we're meeting in person, but they've been great setting up the show throughout the whole process with communication and everything. So we've been well introduced over email and text. Show is going to start at five. It runs until eight. Head sound is going to be playing first, we'll be playing second. Both of us are going to be playing roughly between an hour and an hour and a half with some changeover in between. And we're actually using the show to celebrate our bass player Mike Dardis's birthday that he was supposed to have a party for during the March blizzard of 2024 and kind of nuked all the plans for that, and so we've been on a scheduling kick trying to get all the logistics proper so he could celebrate that, and we're just going to do it at the show and head back to his place after to have some fun with it.
• 14:45
Speaker A: Nice. So you haven't actually met the dudes in head sound, you were saying?
• 14:49
Speaker F: No, we've been introduced over text. I listened to their episode last week and I've heard their music. We're really excited to play. They've got some great shoe gaze sound coming and definitely feels like they're rising stars of the local music.
• 15:03
Speaker A: Yeah, they were super nice dudes. I really liked having them on the show. Calvin, my dog, fell in love with them immediately, which is always a great sign for me. And then, like, I just had Pearson from EQ exposure on the show. His episode will air next week, and he was mentioning head sound that their sound blew him away. So, like, definitely that's going to be a name that you're hearing a bunch more because they're new ish to the music game, but they're gonna rise super quick, so I'm stoked that you guys get to meet them.
• 15:34
Speaker F: Yeah. And they definitely fit right into what's, what's going on around here. Just really great people to work with, it seems like. So we're looking forward to the show. Excited to be back at single cut, like you said. We've been, I think our last time back there was maybe last spring, so it's been a minute, but we played there a handful of times and it's a great room. We love Teresa and everybody down there, so definitely very excited to get back there and play some stuff.
• 15:57
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, and, you know, I love it. Like, obviously, Andy Palooza two on 518 day, May 18. You know, my, the second time having my birthday party there because they definitely be so great.
• 16:08
Speaker F: Dude, I'm so sorry. I might have to mess up this year because we're actually going to be down at our least of all session.
• 16:14
Speaker A: Oh, that's right. Well, I mean, you know, the thing about, like, having all your buddies be in bands is like, it's much different than, like, not, I guess civilian wouldn't be the right word. But the non musician friends, like, if they can't make it, you're like, ah, come on. But when your buddies that are in bands are like, dude, we have a show or we have a gig or we're recording, it's like, I get it.
• 16:34
Speaker F: You know, it's so funny because it's always like, you know, obviously the most supportive people of local live music are other local musicians, but we're all, but we're all always playing on the same nights, so it's hard to line up and get out to other shows.
• 16:46
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 16:46
Speaker A: And especially on like a Friday or Saturday, it's like, you know, if you do see. Yeah. If you do see another musician at your show, it's a special thing. You're like, hell, yeah.
• 16:55
Speaker F: And that's honestly one of my favorite things about the local music scene is, like, when I make it a point to get out on seas atlantis nights off, I always see at least somebody from one other band also out there.
• 17:05
Speaker C: Part of the crowd.
• 17:05
Speaker F: People get out there and are legitimate fans of each other. And it's definitely beautiful.
• 17:09
Speaker A: Yes, it is definitely a beautiful thing. And actually, going back to Pearson from EQ exposure on the episode that'll drop on Tuesday, we talk about that a lot, like how making friends and building a community has just been such a. A thing that he noticed around here that maybe doesn't happen everywhere. All right, well, cool.
• 17:30
Speaker F: I've made. I know I've made permanent friends for sure.
• 17:32
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah, absolutely. Definitely. Like, without question. So I'm not going to hold you up too long, but, you know, I just want to reiterate. The show, you said starts at 05:00 at single cut head sounds kicking it off season. Lannis finishing it up. Both fans gonna do a longer set, you know, roughly 90 minutes or so. And it'll be probably a little bit.
• 17:55
Speaker F: Less with the changeover, maybe more.
• 17:56
Speaker A: Well, yeah, all right.
• 17:57
  Speaker F: But, you know.
• 17:58
Speaker A: Yeah, I guess so. 75 minutes. People who are really keeping track, you.
• 18:06
Speaker F: Know, it's an 08:00 p.m.. 08:00 p.m.. Ending. We're gonna get you home and in bed by ten. We promise.
• 18:11
Speaker A: Yeah. And I love that about. And we're gonna do the same thing, you know, when we play Andy Palooza on May 18, same thing. We're starting the music at five. It'll be done by like eight or nine. Get you home at a reasonable hour. You know, it's exactly.
• 18:23
Speaker F: And that ain't even a work night, most.
• 18:24
  Speaker A: Right, right.
• 18:25
Speaker F: For some people it is. I mean, you know, but work on the Lord's day, get out of here. That's what I always like to say.
• 18:32
Speaker A: Yeah. So before we go, I guess we should probably play a sees Atlantis song, get people hyped up for the weekend. Is there one that you had in mind?
• 18:41
Speaker F: You know what? Go ahead. This is one that when I saw our buddy Joe Mansman actually out coming came and caught us at Backstreet. I know this is one of his favorite tracks by us. Go ahead and let's play crawl.
• 18:53
Speaker A: All right, sweet. So let's listen to crawl. And James, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to talk to me on the phone. And I'll maybe even swing by this Saturday.
• 19:05
Speaker F: Yeah, that'd be great, Andy, we always love to see you, and thank you for having me. It's always great to be on.
• 19:08
Speaker A: Hell, yeah. All right, so let's listen to crawl on the weekend spotlight.
• 19:22
Speaker D: All these things I've seen they've shaken.
• 19:25
Speaker G: Me up feels like I've been living on a fault line everything I thought I knew appears to be wrong feels.
• 19:33
Speaker D: Like I've been eating up the company.
• 19:35
Speaker G: Line now that old facade is crackling off feels like I can see you for what you are some kind of parasite hiding under a magic now's the time to drag it out.
• 19:55
Speaker D: Always looking for someone else to blame I found for a change to put the spotlight on you watch how fast you start to wheel the way.
• 20:18
  Speaker E: All these frauds.
• 20:20
Speaker G: Around there blowing me in I swear they're all reading off a cue card zombies shambling round sticking blues to the strip I swear they eat me alive if they could spin around like a playground picking us off they feed off anyone stay close to the top pursuit of fresh.
• 20:44
Speaker C: You so protect the boy?
• 20:46
Speaker D: And it makes my skin crawl? Always looking for someone else to blame how bout for a change to put the spotlight on you? Watch how fast it starts to whisk.
• 21:06
  Speaker C: Away.
• 21:41
Speaker D: Predictable and it makes my skin crawl?
• 21:47
Speaker C: Always looking for someone else to blame.
• 21:53
Speaker D: I'm not gonna change it put the spotlight on you watch how fast you start to whip away.
• 22:06
