- 0:23SPEAKER_04: Ten years later, it's the error of its way.
- 0:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, perfect podcast, Dr.
- 0:28SPEAKER_04: Castle Yellow Bat movies.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Wow, we're just getting right into it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Thanks for having me.
- 0:37SPEAKER_04: That's the second time that's happened in a row.
- 0:39SPEAKER_04: And but nobody's I've just I've done like nearly 50 episodes.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: No one's questioned it before until the last two.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: I I'm not questioning it.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: No, it's funny.
- 0:50SPEAKER_04: Maybe maybe I really am getting into it too quickly at the moment.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: No, just like straight to the point.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Like, let's talk about this movie, Cassandra Hager.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: First of all, how are you?
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: How are you at the moment?
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's Friday.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Um almost the weekend.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Like the sun is out, it's starting to feel like summer.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Like um, I got my coffee, like, life is good.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: Oh well, that's a giant coffee as well.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: It is, and I get it every every day, like almost every day.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: It's so bad, it's so bad.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: I could not I can't even drink coffee.
- 1:25SPEAKER_04: I mean like really jittery from it.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: So like I'm an addict.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: That would finish me.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: That's so good.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 1:34SPEAKER_04: But yeah, so like you you just like you got one more day of work before the weekend, I guess.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: And then yeah, I just started teaching yoga too.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: So like Saturday morning I work, but it doesn't feel like work because it's fun teaching a yoga class.
- 1:48SPEAKER_04: So how's that at the moment?
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: It's awesome.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad that I started doing it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: I've been doing yoga for like 13 years or something like that.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: So it's kind of like a kind of a dream of mine.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: It's pretty cool.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: I'm proud of you.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: How long did you have to train?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: How long do you have to train?
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh not long.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Um, do you so there's a 200-hour study program?
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: That's pretty long.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So it's yeah, it's over the course of like four or five months.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: So you meet like on the weekends.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Um, and I did it virtually, um, because of code, obviously.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: So I did it right here for my apartment.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: And yeah, so it does, I guess it adds up to 200 hours, which sounds like a long time, but it's all separated out over weekends.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: So it doesn't feel like that long.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: Oh, cool.
- 2:39SPEAKER_04: And you've done you've done, was it one class teaching so far?
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: One, one so far, yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: And no major disasters.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: So I'm happy.
- 2:50SPEAKER_04: Let's keep that mindset.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: That's what the rest of them would be like now.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 2:57SPEAKER_04: How many people are you teaching in your class?
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Um, so we have there's you know, though there's a limit.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Like normally they allow like, I think like 45 people in there or some like crazy number, but not anymore.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Um because they want to keep like six six feet apart.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: So I think the max is like 13.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Um, but that's kind of nice because like, you know, because it's good for a like starter class.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Take up lots of space and like you don't have to work because normally in like a packed yoga class, like you're always like bumping into people and like like awkwardly touching them on accident and stuff like that.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: So that doesn't exist right now, so that's kind of nice.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: I've only even done yoga at home and it like I I can't imagine like going to a class because I'm like really subconscious about it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: No, yeah, that's normal.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: You really you do get over that after a while though.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: I'm sure.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: Especially after 200 hours of training.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And 13 years of taking classes, right?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: But um, yeah, anyway, you've come on today to talk about the movie Um Now You See Me Too.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: And I just want to thank you in advance because I really have been waiting years for my chance to stand up for this movie.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Kind of, and that's why it was surprising to me to like that I didn't think of it right away.
- 4:19SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, because you suggested something else first, didn't you?
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: I said Boondock Saints.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Um I think I've I forgot that this movie was like so low-rated because it just it fills my heart with so much joy.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: It's low-rated, but it's not like so low-rated.
- 4:37SPEAKER_04: It's 33% from the critics and 53% from the audience.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: So it's like it's bad, but it's not like the worst I've seen by far.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Like it's but it deserves so much more, in my opinion.
- 4:52SPEAKER_04: Well, let me check what the first one has out of interest.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: I think it was higher.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's gotta be higher, because the first one I really liked.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:01SPEAKER_04: As well.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: And then this one I have thoughts on.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna if you're gonna crap all over this movie, I'm gonna cry.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: No, it's okay.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I understand.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I understand.
- 5:08SPEAKER_04: The first one's lower than I expected.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: What do you think it is?
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I was thinking like 60 or 70%.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: See, that's what I was thinking.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: It's 50.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:21SPEAKER_04: But the audience is 70.
- 5:23unknown: Yeah.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: Which is about where I I would put it around 70.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: If I was gonna rate it.
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: But then this this one.
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: I kind of agree with the audience here.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: I'm kind of around the the 50 mark.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Because I think it does it's well we'll we'll get into it, but I'll be the first to admit that it's ridiculous.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Like, that's that yeah, I'm not gonna argue that.
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: But I'm okay with ridiculous.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 5:48SPEAKER_04: Um, so how do we even set up the premise of this movie?
- 5:54SPEAKER_04: Because it's so complicated.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: Uh it is the sequel to Now You See Me, one.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: Which how long okay, how long since you've seen the first one?
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Um, like as of right now, how long since I've seen the first one?
- 6:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: It's been a few years.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: Do you remember the plot, the premise of it?
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Kinda?
- 6:17SPEAKER_04: Because I'm struggling.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Kinda.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Thing is, with net the Now You See Me movies, it's almost not even about the plot, in my opinion, you know, like What you think it's about the characters?
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: It's no, it's just about how fun it is.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Like, it's just like setting all realism aside, and like, I mean, yeah, I love Jesse Eisenberg, so it's kind of about Jesse Eisenberg and Shimichu.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Not gonna lie.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Um, but um, yeah, I remember uh they all got the the cards given to them and they all met up and they were all like strangers.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: That's right, because they didn't know each other initially, did they?
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: So they were all brought together um by the eye, whatever the eye is.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: Um still not clear.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: Two movies in and it's still not clear.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Well, what's sad is I'm pretty sure there was supposed to be a third one, so that might have cleared everything up, but I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 7:16SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm kind of I don't know, because it made a lot of money.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Did it?
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Did now you see me too make a lot of money?
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: It did.
- 7:24SPEAKER_04: So the budget was 71 million and it made 334 million.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Did it?
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: I didn't know it did that well.
- 7:30SPEAKER_04: That's the sequel, and that's the sequel.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think it will, I think they would be.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: I saw it in the theater, like I, you know, unsurprisingly.
- 7:37SPEAKER_04: I remember being excited to see it, and then I remember the reviews coming out and being like, okay, I'll wait till it comes out at home.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 7:46SPEAKER_04: Because yeah, I didn't, but I did enjoy the first one.
- 7:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: So What's funny when I went to I went to Paris and like part of doesn't part of the first one take place in Paris?
- 7:56SPEAKER_04: I think so.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: So I went to Paris with a friend when I was like 30, like a few years ago.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I was like, I think this is the bench that she sits on.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: It's like all these famous, famous monuments, you know?
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I think this is the bench that she sits on at the end of Now You See Me.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: And my friend was like, okay, Cal.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: So I was like, take my picture on the bench.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: I have no idea if it was the same bench.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: No idea.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: But like that was when I was recognizing everything in this like beautiful historic city.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: I was just connecting everything to Now You See Me.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: But I was trying to do that just now with all the London stuff in this one.
- 8:28SPEAKER_04: I was like, how much do I recognize here?
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can see um, yeah.
- 8:32SPEAKER_04: It's only a couple of things to be honest.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: London Eye, like at the end, you know, stuff like that.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: There's ta there's Tower Bridge, there's um Yeah, it's pretty much it, really.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: Like, other than that, they just kind of they keep it vague.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they do.
- 8:46SPEAKER_04: Which is weird.
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: Oh no, there's Greenwich Observatory, I think, as well.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: They go to at the end.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: The very end.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: I don't think I've ever been there.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know where that is.
- 8:55SPEAKER_04: It's like where the eye is.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it?
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: Uh not the eye is in the London eye, but like the eye is in the eye.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: This is gonna get confusing.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: The proverbial eye, not the actual London eye.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: The eye of the movie.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 9:18SPEAKER_04: The eye that looms over everything.
- 9:20SPEAKER_04: Um so okay, how do we explain it?
- 9:23SPEAKER_04: Can you are you able to explain this the premise of this one?
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: Because I'm uh it's so confusing to me.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Um it's like Can I read the No, can I read the Wikipedia?
- 9:34SPEAKER_04: That's what I was gonna do, and I felt bad about it.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: No! I mean, that's that's fair.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: Um okay, so it's the second instalment of the Now You See Me series of like a bunch of magicians.
- 9:46SPEAKER_04: Hell yeah.
- 9:47SPEAKER_04: Um they are the four horsemen, they're called, and um they're led by um Dylan Rhodes, who is um an FBI agent also.
- 10:01SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: Um and he recruits uh he's recruited by Walter, a criminal mastermind, to steal a data chip.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: And that is the basic premise.
- 10:13SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 10:13SPEAKER_04: So it's the data chip of Walter's um former partner, who um is now like this leading phone chip guy.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 10:24SPEAKER_04: It's very it's not like that important.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: No, yeah, that's what I think.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter it doesn't matter.
- 10:29SPEAKER_04: Like you're right, it doesn't actually matter.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Why they want this chip, like who knows.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: But Harry Potter also wants it.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: So like it's a whole poor Daniel Radcliffe.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 10:43SPEAKER_04: Yes, Walter is Walter the the guy that recruits them is um Daniel Radcliffe.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Recruits recruits slash like forces them.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he technically forces them because he like kind of um he's he like tricks them into coming to Macau and like revealing all their secrets to everyone in in America, so like they are basically stuck going from going back to America because they'll be arrested straight away.
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: Right, he's kinda like blackmailing them.
- 11:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Or he is blackmailing them.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_04: Um and it's not includ it's like that's what you think is going on.
- 11:21SPEAKER_04: But there's more to it, obviously.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because that's not true.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And then there's more to it again.
- 11:26SPEAKER_04: And then there's more to it again, and it keeps adding to it, and it gets very confusing.
- 11:30SPEAKER_04: I was trying to keep up and write down the plot, and there's a lot of twists.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: There's a lot of uh just like with magic, they they think they lead you one way and then they they take you another way, but then it's actually a third thing that's going on.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:48SPEAKER_04: It's all it's all mystery, the whole movie.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: Um and I think that might be its downfall.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, like like I said, like I will admit that logistically there are some things that just don't make sense.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, um you have to put um common sense to the side.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: But I just I think it's so fun and enjoyable.
- 12:16SPEAKER_04: Well, I'll tell you the moment that it starts to get a bit ridiculous.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, a bit, okay.
- 12:23SPEAKER_04: Well, the moment I'm on board I was on board with it for the time being until it got to the moment where um Woody Harrelson's character has a twin.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean yeah, that's dumb.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: That's dumb.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I actually kind of forgot about that part because it's like, yeah.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, my favorite scene that's also ridiculous is the card throwing scene, but okay.
- 12:47SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's so long as well.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: It's it's about five minutes of them throwing cart a card, like riding it back and forth between each other while being frisked by security.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: And I love it.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Whatever.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: So Sue me.
- 13:01SPEAKER_04: I mean that.
- 13:02SPEAKER_04: No, you can love it, it's fine.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's why this podcast exists, right?
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: That's the whole point.
- 13:06SPEAKER_04: That's the whole point of this.
- 13:08SPEAKER_04: You're here to defend this movie.
- 13:10SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, so the other characters in it.
- 13:13SPEAKER_04: So there's Jesse Eisenberg, kind of the leader, but Mark Ruffalo is technically a leader as well.
- 13:19SPEAKER_04: Um then there's Woody Harrelson's character.
- 13:22SPEAKER_04: Um, bit of a wild card he is.
- 13:25SPEAKER_04: Um didn't didn't mean that as a pun, but yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was good.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: That was good.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: No.
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: Um Dave Franco, he also returns.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: He's kind of like the he's supposed to be like everyone thinks he's dead, but he's like in secret, in hiding hiding.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 13:41SPEAKER_04: Um, even though he's like showing his face everywhere.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_04: As though like nobody rec would recognize him if he's like that famous.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he wasn't trying that hard to hide.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: And then the final one, uh, Isla Fisher is replaced by Lizzie Katlan because Isla Fisher was pregnant, and so they had to bring in a new character.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Is that why?
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: I thought she just like didn't want to do it or something.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: Well, she didn't want to do the third one.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 14:04SPEAKER_04: So she's not coming back for the third one now.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: If they do it.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's fine.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 14:09SPEAKER_04: She's like, I guess she's just like, fine, you replace me, I don't need to do it.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: She's got other stuff going on.
- 14:18SPEAKER_04: And then this is also directed by a different director.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: This is John Chu.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: Who has just done In the Heights, which I'm very excited about.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't know.
- 14:26SPEAKER_04: Um, and he did um Crazy Rich Asians as well.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: So he's a very different director to the first one, who's um Louis Leterrier, I think you say how he says how he say his name.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 14:39SPEAKER_04: Who's just like a huge action director, Louis Literier.
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: And it's interesting that they've come on, they brought in John Shu, who's more of a like a um he directs more like music video style stuff.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: I think that makes sense.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I can feel like like it does feel it.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: It's noticeable.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: I can feel it.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: And I think the direction is actually good in this movie.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: I think what lets it down is the script.
- 15:03SPEAKER_04: And what really disappoints me is it's a good writer.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:08SPEAKER_04: It's Ed Solomon who has written the Bill and Ted movies, The Men in Black, uh, Charlie's Angels.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: Uh so like he's a good writer in this kind of style.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: So I don't know.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I I could have done without the twin, the surprise twin storyline.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Like, that's fair.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I I didn't love it.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: I didn't love it.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: It's kind of unnecessary in this like because you said you forgot about it as well.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: I did, yeah, I did.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I I always think about like the really cool, like the the skyline shots of like when they land in, I think, is it China, somewhere in China?
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And like in London, and then the card throwing scene.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: And um, I love the first scene where uh Lizzie Kaplan and Jesse Eisenberg first meet when she does the trick and his couch.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: I just think that's really charming.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, uh so yeah, visually this movie is great.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: I've got no qualms with it visually.
- 16:14SPEAKER_04: Again, I think it's the story and just the overcomplicatedness of everything about it.
- 16:21SPEAKER_04: I also think it's too long.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: How long is it exactly?
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: It's like two hours ten.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, see it I love it so much it doesn't feel that long to me.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: So I guess I never noticed that it was that long.
- 16:32SPEAKER_04: Because I was kind of like, you could have ended it.
- 16:35SPEAKER_04: You could don't you don't need to keep adding these scenes to it.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 16:38SPEAKER_04: It's also cle it's also very clear that Michael Cain and Morgan Freeman do not want to be in this movie.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: I don't think they want to do anything anymore.
- 16:46SPEAKER_04: Like And also, how many movies are they gonna make together those two?
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: I don't know, but like just always in a movie together.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Every movie I've seen Michael Caine in in the last like 10 or 15 years, I feel like he's just kind of there because he's Michael Cain.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Like, why didn't you see me there?
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: I did another movie recently with um him, which actually it's probably gonna come out after this one, but um uh the episode.
- 17:11SPEAKER_04: But it's um he Morgan Freeman uh said that he only did the movie because of the paycheck for that movie.
- 17:20SPEAKER_04: Hey, makes sense.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: That's that's honest.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: I mean also I can't believe Morgan Freeman like uh needs a paycheck, but I know that's that was what I was thinking when he said it.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Like, are you struggling?
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 17:37SPEAKER_04: I guess if you're used to living large, you gotta Although he did just get a div or he did get a divorce in the last like ten years or whatever, didn't it?
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 17:47SPEAKER_04: Um but again, like I don't understand why these like huge actors do these things for like when they've got all this money, they just end up doing these movies if they don't want to do them.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: If they don't want to do, I was gonna say, like, if they think they're fun, like it makes sense.
- 18:02SPEAKER_04: But yeah, uh I guess like De Niro falls into it as well, doesn't it?
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: The money is a big draw.
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, but at the same time, they they've got like tens of tens of millions, or right, up to a hundred million or whatever for these people.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I think they get used to living a certain way, you know?
- 18:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: I I am now looking up Morgan Freeman's net worth.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 18:29SPEAKER_04: He does not need to do anything.
- 18:32SPEAKER_04: He is worth between 250 and 300 million dollars.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: What is he doing if he does not want to do these movies?
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Why is he in the how old is he now?
- 18:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, um 70s something?
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: Oh no, he's gotta be in his 80s.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Is he isn't in his 80s?
- 18:49SPEAKER_04: He's 83.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Is he?
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: And Michael Cain is 88.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:55SPEAKER_04: I thought Michael Cain was gonna be younger.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 19:01SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, so like this movie itself, do you enjoy it more than the first one?
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: Or is this the or is it just because this one was low-rated that you picked it?
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Um how do I sound this without sounding ridiculous?
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: No, I love um Jesse Eisenberg with his head shaved.
- 19:23unknown: It's not shaved.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: It's not shaved in the first one, and I think he looks really hot in the second one, so that's a big part of it.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: Wait.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: Does that mean you love him as Lick Luth then?
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Um, no.
- 19:36SPEAKER_04: With his head completely shaved.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: No, I just he does it for me.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: I can't explain it.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Um, and I like him with his head shaved.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: So, but no, if I You and Ginny Hogan are like the two, the only two people who have ever heard say how much uh Jesse Eisenberg does.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, she's obsessed with him.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: I follow her on Twitter.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Has she been on your show?
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: She has, yeah.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I've she's very vocal about how much she loves Jesse.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: Um but you're the only two I've ever heard say that.
- 20:09SPEAKER_04: Oh I don't ever hear anyone talk about him.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's we it's a niche, it's a niche crush.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: But anyway, no, you know, if I had to pick between well, I will say that I own Now You See Me Too, and I don't own the first one.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: So I guess, yeah, if I had to pick, I would pick, I would pick Now You See Me Too.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: And how many times have you seen this one?
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, at least 10, 15 maybe.
- 20:40SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 20:41SPEAKER_04: Acceptable.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, not hundreds.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it's a thing where I'll just I'll just have it like on in the background, is you know what I mean?
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Like so there's that kind of a thing.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: But actually, yeah, I actually sat and watched it like 10 maybe.
- 20:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's a decent amount.
- 20:55SPEAKER_04: It's not even that old, it's only five years ago.
- 20:57SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: So yeah, yeah.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: 2016, right?
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: Um But you said you saw it in theaters.
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: Did you see it only the once, or did you go back?
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: No, I only saw it once.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: I did I no.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: I'm not usually like a repeat theater person.
- 21:13SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 21:13SPEAKER_04: Um But if you loved it that much.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: No, I know.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: I think like I think I went back and saw Titanic like three times when I was twelve.
- 21:21SPEAKER_04: Because it was like so long.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Because it was like my sexual awakening.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, what are they doing in that car, you know?
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: I like this.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Like, mom, can we go back?
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Um But no, as an adult, I'm not really a repeat moviegoer.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: I like it and then I just think about how much I like it until it comes out and then I'll buy it.
- 21:43SPEAKER_04: I try to think if I am.
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: I've I've seen a few handful of movies a few times, but like I it's not it's not common that I go back in theaters.
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: But then yeah, at home I will wa rewatch something if I really enjoy it, I'll rewatch it a bunch of times.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: I would have considered seeing Tenet again.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: It was the only movie I saw during the pandemic when it came out in September, but it felt like tempting fate just to go the one time, so I decided not to go again, but I definitely bought it like when it first came out.
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: Is that also a thing of like I've finally seen a movie in theaters a kid?
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: I I really liked Tenet, but I still haven't seen it.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Well, um, you think this movie is hard to describe the plot.
- 22:21SPEAKER_04: Like I'm not a huge Christopher Nolan fan.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's fair.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: I I just really like Tenet.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: And I also heard like you'll either love it or hate it, so I was like, I don't know, I'll wait.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: I wasn't like that desperate to go back at the time.
- 22:39SPEAKER_04: Well, I wanted to go.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: I was de I was desperate to go back, but I wasn't desperate to go back to see Tenet.
- 22:43unknown: Sure.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: I mean it's really cool visually.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm glad I saw it in the theater because it's one of those that I think it's like you get the full effect when you see it in the theater.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: But it's another one actually that I did the last film that I saw in theaters uh ended up being 1917, which was like a great one to see in theaters, but like that was something that's just like also at the same time very depressing.
- 23:10SPEAKER_04: That's the last thing I saw.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Um, talk about depressing.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: The last one I saw, apart from Tenet before before COVID, was cats.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: Mine was nearly cats.
- 23:20SPEAKER_04: It was if it hadn't been for it hadn't been for 1917, it would have been cats.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: You saw it as like a joke, right?
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, just be funny.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: I had no idea that like I wasn't gonna be seeing another movie in theaters forever.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Like, oh my god, I was like, if I had known, you know, would have seen something better.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: It was like that, and then 1917, and then I was considering seeing Sonic just because I knew it was gonna come up to the point where we weren't seeing anything again for a while.
- 23:48SPEAKER_04: Okay, and then I was like, no, I'll leave it, I'll I won't chance it.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: And then ended up being, I don't know, it's been s 18 months.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: I haven't been access.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh wow, yeah.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, well, yeah, I I mean your government has been a little smarter with like shutting everything down, ours.
- 24:05SPEAKER_04: They did reopen the theaters for a while, like they did reopen cinemas for for a little while.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: Okay, reopening tomorrow.
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Not tomorrow, sorry, big day.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: No, wait, is it?
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Monday.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Wasn't it like May I thought it was like May 7th at first?
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Did they push it back?
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: Um although in 20 minutes, apparently apparently there's some announcement coming out.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: He's gonna come out and make some speech, and I'm thinking he's gonna like push it again.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: No, well, you know, yesterday here the CDC just like dramatically I I actually work in news, local news, so yeah.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Um, they like dramatically ease the COVID guidelines here.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: So now they're saying, like, um, because so many people are vaccinated, I guess, that like they're saying, you know, yeah, I know.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: Like yeah.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Um, hey, you guys will catch up.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Um like they're yeah, they're saying no masks indoors, which unless you're in a big group, which is I don't know, seems a little scary to me.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna keep wearing I think a lot of people are, but I'm definitely gonna keep wearing a mask out.
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: Um even after my second vaccine.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:10SPEAKER_04: Have you had both now?
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: I have, yeah.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I'm fully yeah, I'm a month out about from my second one, so yeah.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 25:20SPEAKER_04: I'm I've had the one.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: My second one is coming up in about a month, I think.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Do you which one did you get?
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Do you know?
- 25:28SPEAKER_04: I've got the uh AstraZeneca, which is the Oxford one.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: I feel like that one's not really as common here.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: We have like Pfizer and Moderna.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we don't have those.
- 25:40SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 25:41SPEAKER_04: We're Pfizer.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Okay, I got Moderna.
- 25:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_04: I think they just brought in Pfizer after the Oxford, after I got the Oxford one, they brought in the Pfizer one.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 25:51SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: But that yeah, I don't know.
- 25:56SPEAKER_04: I was just happy to get anything from this.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Right, I know.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: I was like, jab me, I don't care.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I don't care what it is.
- 26:03SPEAKER_04: I got mine on a cancellation.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: I I shouldn't have even had mine yet.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: I got mine on a cancellation.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: No, I know a lot of people who, yeah, or they're like, they'll be like hanging around outside the clinic at like closing hours, and I'll be like, Do you have any extra?
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, that's how it really was at first.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: It was just like whatever you can do.
- 26:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, literally.
- 26:20SPEAKER_04: I I want to get back out again.
- 26:21SPEAKER_04: I haven't left the house in 18 months.
- 26:24SPEAKER_04: I'm going insane.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: What what city do you live in?
- 26:29SPEAKER_04: London.
- 26:30SPEAKER_04: You live in London.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: Nearabouts.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: London area.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: Close enough.
- 26:36SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, what are you in?
- 26:39SPEAKER_04: You're because you're in the central times, I mean, what are you?
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: I'm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- 26:45SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 26:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:46SPEAKER_04: I was expecting like Chicago or something.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Uh it's close to Chicago.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, relatively.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Um, it's like an hour drive.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I an hour drive north of Chicago.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's pretty close.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: I didn't realize that was so close to each other.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's right on the like by the border of like southern Wisconsin.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: I know nothing about Wisconsin other than uh cheese, I think.
- 27:09SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Cheese and beer and Green Bay Packers.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: And that 70s show.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there you go.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: What else?
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Bridesmaids?
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Like Bridesmaids takes place in Milwaukee.
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: I don't think they actually shot any of it.
- 27:23SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say bet they film in LA.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, but I mean there is there's one scene where you can see the Milwaukee public market sign in the background, but it might have been like a green screen.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: Unless it's like really cheap to film there.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: It might be, yeah.
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, so let's let's discuss uh the plot of this movie then.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: Let's try and work it out.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'll try, okay.
- 27:50SPEAKER_04: We'll go we're gonna go through it.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: Um, so it opens in New Jersey in 1984.
- 27:59SPEAKER_04: And Lionel Strife is doing a magic trick.
- 28:04SPEAKER_04: Now Lionel is uh Dylan's Noah's Dylan's father.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Mark Buffalo's character.
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: Dylan's father.
- 28:25SPEAKER_04: And so Dylan s uh sees um he's like he's get told like count down three hundred seconds and by then I'll be back up from this magic trick that I'm performing in front of like all these people.
- 28:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:37SPEAKER_04: And he's gonna like um go inside of a box and like uh be handcuffed and like chained up and then like underwater.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Uh it's just basically like a Houdini trick.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: Counts to 300 seconds, he doesn't come up.
- 28:49SPEAKER_04: At this moment, also, um uh what is his name?
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: Oh, there's too many people's names.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Um Morgan Freeman.
- 29:00SPEAKER_04: Attius.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll try to find Okay.
- 29:02SPEAKER_04: Should we just go by their real name?
- 29:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I guess.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: I forget to.
- 29:09SPEAKER_04: They all have complicated names.
- 29:11SPEAKER_04: Like Jesse Eisenburg's characters called J.
- 29:13SPEAKER_04: Daniel Atlas.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Atlas.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Atlas.
- 29:17SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, Morgan Freeman is reporting on the news at this moment, and so he's observing it all, and then like so he sees everything going on.
- 29:27SPEAKER_04: I had no memory of him being like a news reporter.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:31SPEAKER_04: Did they did they add that in for the second one?
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: That was very strange.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: I didn't remember that either.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: I don't remember that from the first one.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, that was random.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: But yeah, he doesn't come up and then obviously he dies.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: And is it obvious though?
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Because I always thought they were gonna in the third movie reveal that he was it was some fake out, but that would be really annoying.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: I I that's what I that's what I always thought it was leading up to, and that would be terrible to obviously like make your child think that you were dead for all those years.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: That's the reason it's underwater.
- 30:07SPEAKER_04: That would be annoying.
- 30:07SPEAKER_04: That's that's why, but like yeah.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: That's what I always thought it was, you know, for for the greater good for some reason.
- 30:14SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't be surprised if he was if he it turned out he was the head of the eye or something.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, something like that.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Come on, third movie.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: We want to know.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: I wanted to know.
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: So many people are asking for it.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Me and at least ten other people on this planet want to see Now You See Me Three.
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: Um, but then it comes to the present day and the four horsemen, and there's like um the four horsemen left.
- 30:47SPEAKER_04: Uh you find out like Morgan Freeman is in jail from the first one, and he's doing like this like YouTube style magic thing where he's like promoting himself.
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: Um he's like, I'm I want an eye for an eye, they left me behind, and just warning them.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Very threatening, yeah.
- 31:06SPEAKER_04: He is yeah, and that's the point where I was watching it.
- 31:10SPEAKER_04: I'm like, he doesn't want to be in this movie.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: He's just this is a patient.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: He's giving like no effort to be in it, he's giving like no efforts of he's not trying it.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, he might have signed like a contract for like the first one in any like sequels, too.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Like I feel like that's what they do a lot of the time.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_04: Well, that's Michael Cain definitely did that because you watch his line delivery in this movie, it's appalling.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Like Jennifer Lawrence in the X-Men movie, each one wants to be their less and less.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:37SPEAKER_04: So much so that she got killed off.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: My gosh.
- 31:42SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, Jesse Eisenberg runs into the subway tunnel, and you find out he's been living in hiding for a year.
- 31:49SPEAKER_04: Or they all have, I guess.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: And he shaved his head.
- 31:52SPEAKER_04: Shaved his head, yeah.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: But it's the only one that's changed enough is Luke.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: And it's only because he was playing Lax Luther.
- 32:00SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 32:01SPEAKER_04: And I feel like that's the only reason they filmed in London for this one.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe, maybe.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 32:07SPEAKER_04: It's like he can be here, he'll be here still as well.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Um just make it easier.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: And then you find out Ruffle Mike Ruffalo's character is after them, technically, but he's not.
- 32:20SPEAKER_04: Um, because he's working with them.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's like a double agent.
- 32:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: Um he starts giving like this whole complicated thing about pigeons and like pigeons are the the bird of magicians, he starts telling them, and they're like, no, that no, they're not.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: And he's like on very thin ice with his job, too, right?
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: His boss is like, he's not doing a very good job, what are you doing?
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: Keeping them secret or keeping up and making it like unless like that's intentional, but it can't be, surely.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: He's not doing a good job at at um leading them or being an FBI agent.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: So like he has two jobs and he's doing both of them badly.
- 32:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:03SPEAKER_04: Um, but there's a Rube Goldberg machine uh that goes on when Jesse Eyeburn goes back home.
- 33:08SPEAKER_04: And this is your what this is one of your favourite scenes.
- 33:11SPEAKER_04: Uh oh, yeah, I love the scene.
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: It's the introduction of Lizzie Kaplan and she's lying on the sofa.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: That's so cute, yeah.
- 33:16SPEAKER_04: And like this whole Rube Goldberg machine sets off and it looks like it slices her head off, but it doesn't, obviously, because it's a magic trick.
- 33:25SPEAKER_04: And she's and he and then he's like immediately spots.
- 33:27SPEAKER_04: He's like poor execution, yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: Slimsy, yeah, yeah, and she's got and and and he's like, uh, get out from under the sofa and she's not there, but she's behind she's sitting behind him.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, drinking her his soda.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's like, hey.
- 33:44SPEAKER_04: From Shake Shack, but written in Chinese.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it?
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't notice that.
- 33:52SPEAKER_04: Which is weird because I'm like, did they just film this in Macau?
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: Maybe, yeah, that is odd.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: Noticed that.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Or is it supposed to be cute foreshadowing?
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: Maybe.
- 34:05SPEAKER_04: It's just very odd.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: That is odd.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: You'd think they would have noticed that and at least like flipped the cup around if they didn't want it to be seen.
- 34:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because it looks like he kind of like holds it up like this, like very obvious.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: To be okay, yeah.
- 34:18SPEAKER_04: I guess it's like it looks like he's advertising it.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Foreshadowing.
- 34:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so it makes sense foreshadowing.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: I never noticed that.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: It's very strange.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: I just know because I I'm like I was watching it on my computer screen, it's like very close to me.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 34:35SPEAKER_04: But yeah, there's a phone launch, uh, which is the whole thing of like this sets up the whole premise of like um they go.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: What was the reason they go?
- 34:45SPEAKER_04: In the first place.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: They go.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Why do they go to this phone launch in the first place?
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: What are they going for?
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Wait, phone launch?
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to remember where you're trying to go.
- 34:55SPEAKER_04: Or like the they go for the uh the chip.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: But what is the purpose like what are you?
- 35:06SPEAKER_04: This is where I got a little bit confused.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: The horsemen, they're out to expose Owen.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Owen Case, the guy, yeah.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but this is the surprise at Daniel Radcliffe.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so there's a really cool scene that I also love where Jesse does the whole um outfit change while he's walking.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Is that the one we were talking about?
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: I love that too.
- 35:31SPEAKER_04: Um another one of the Jesse Eisenberg loves that.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: No, I just think that's really cool.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: I love the like the execution of that is so neat.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Um But yeah, so they hijack the phone's launch because this so the chip, and I'm not remembering this, I'm reading this.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: So this chip is like so valuable because it would be able to like hack into any computer system in the entire world.
- 35:59SPEAKER_04: So all right, so that's why it's helpful for them.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: And it could also, you know, like be really devastating to like a billion people on the planet, too, because they could all get like their information stolen and stuff like that.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Um so that's why.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: And they kind of they do the like Jedi mind, Jedi, Jedi Mind trick with him.
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: Um first of all, they break in as fake employees, like each one of them does something different, which is really funny.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: I would love what that happens in the movie.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I yeah.
- 36:29SPEAKER_04: Um and see all of them do like some different magic trick to like trick them.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, and Lizzie Kaplan with her like fake like the finger.
- 36:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: She pretends to be a chef and she goes in and she like she's holding the uh the like carver, the meat carver with like the electric meat cover, and it like she pretends it gets stuck in her arm by the up from the other chef, and that like distracts everyone enough to like so she can get other get done with other stuff.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: She's like, you don't know Jason?
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: Don't tell Jason you don't know.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: Like, he's like, who?
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: What?
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Who are you?
- 37:05SPEAKER_04: Another fun fact, Jesse uh not Jesse, um, Lizzie Kaplan met her husband while filming this movie.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: Who is she married to?
- 37:14SPEAKER_04: She is married to uh Tom Riley.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Is that the guy that played Owen?
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: No.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: You'd think that he's got nothing to do with this movie.
- 37:26SPEAKER_04: Tom is in.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: Maybe you haven't seen him in anything.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: Looking at anything.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: I know I I know who he is, but like maybe maybe you haven't seen him anything.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Um Tom Riley.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: No, he doesn't look familiar to me.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: It's cool though.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: Happy for them.
- 37:45SPEAKER_04: But yeah, if Isla Fisher hadn't done the m if ha hadn't become pregnant and dropped out of the movie, then Lizzie Captain wouldn't be married.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: How cute.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: Or married Tom Riley at least.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: She was with uh Chandler Bing for a long time.
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 37:59SPEAKER_04: Matthew very odd couple.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:02SPEAKER_04: Um they break in the slaking boys, they hypnotize uh Owen, the guy that's got the chip, and the guy that's running the whole thing, and they hypnotize him to like re-do this like whole speech.
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: Um but as they're doing that oh sorry, they come out in the middle of that and like show show themselves off and everything, everyone's like surprised to see them again.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: But as they're doing that, someone hacks in and they it turns out that it's um they show off everyone there, and they reveal Jack's alive uh in his security guard outfit.
- 38:45SPEAKER_04: Um they reveal Dylan is crooked and like helping them all out.
- 38:52SPEAKER_04: Uh so he gets arrested, but like breaks out immediately.
- 38:56SPEAKER_04: Um breaks away, and then they all run into like this tunnel, jump down the uh jump down this escape, like slide.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: Yes, and then they wake up in Macau.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: I have so many logistical questions about this.
- 39:13SPEAKER_04: Like I've actually changed my mind.
- 39:19SPEAKER_04: That is the first point where it starts to get ridiculous.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: Now they do explain it, however.
- 39:26SPEAKER_04: However First of all, when they wake up in Macau, they are in a Chinese restaurant and it's revealed that Chase, uh, who is Woody Harrison's character's twin, also played by Woody Harrison, with a ridiculous wig.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: Um helps bring to bring them there.
- 40:00SPEAKER_04: He like he was one of the reasons he was the one that like kind of brought them there in the first place.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: And they find out that they were hypnotized.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, they were unconscious.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: They were unconscious for God knows how many hours.
- 40:16SPEAKER_04: 16 hours?
- 40:18SPEAKER_04: So they probably would have Doctor Macau is not close.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Ped themselves, but somehow didn't.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: Like, how did they not?
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: That was my question.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: How did they not?
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: That's what you pee?
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: That yeah, that that's what I mean when I say.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: But then, you know, they say, God, I'm so hungry.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: Why am I so hungry?
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't they all be like, wait, why do I have to pee so bad all of a sudden?
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: That was my that you know It's true.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: No one goes that long without peeing, right?
- 40:47SPEAKER_04: It's true, yeah.
- 40:50SPEAKER_04: Um But he put them to sleep and then you find out uh that it's all it's all um Daniel Ratcliffe's master plan.
- 40:58SPEAKER_04: Yes, supposedly, that because Owen, his Palmer partner, stole the um idea for the chip and uh doesn't give him any credit and kicked him out of the company.
- 41:09SPEAKER_04: He's mad.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: He's the mad short little man.
- 41:14SPEAKER_04: He is very short and he looks tiny in this movie.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: It's like very noticeable.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: He does, I know.
- 41:24SPEAKER_04: So he wants the idea is he brought them there because he wants them to steal the chip uh because they're such great uh illusionists that are like and uh thieves and everything.
- 41:35SPEAKER_04: Uh Jesse Eisenberg agrees to it because they're in Macau and he's like, ah, be easy, we can just go to this the the world's first magic shop, yeah, which is in Macau.
- 41:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:45SPEAKER_04: As though like just because it's the first magic shop in the world means it's gonna be the best and have everything.
- 41:50SPEAKER_04: That's just how it's like.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: That sells those little finger traps, yeah.
- 42:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:01SPEAKER_04: I have an issue with that uh in terms of plot structure later on, but we'll get into that.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:07unknown: Okay.
- 42:07SPEAKER_04: I just gotta remember to bring that up again.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: Near the end.
- 42:11SPEAKER_04: I think you know where I'm going with that, but I don't! Oh, okay.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: So that's good, yeah.
- 42:16SPEAKER_04: Um so basically, Dylan breaks Thaddeus out.
- 42:22SPEAKER_04: Um, because he's like, oh, I can um help you find them.
- 42:26SPEAKER_04: I know where they are and everything.
- 42:28SPEAKER_04: And I'll take you to them.
- 42:31SPEAKER_04: Thaddeus says to Dylan.
- 42:33SPEAKER_04: It's very complicated.
- 42:34SPEAKER_04: You're looking like what?
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: No, I yeah, I'm just I wanted to like, I mean, I've seen it so many times, so I didn't have to re-watch it really, but I didn't, so no, I'm just trying to remember every little intricacy of the plot.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: But yeah, they go to a casino for some reason.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: I doesn't I don't remember why they go to casinos, it's hypnosis, it doesn't really make sense.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: Um there's like the Brazilian guys there or something.
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: I don't remember what that what they have to do with any part of the plot, but it seems so inconsequential because yeah, you're right.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, they could have cut some scenes, I guess, and made it under two hours and ten minutes, I guess.
- 43:12SPEAKER_04: Uh but then then they then there's a really good scene where they go to the McCal uh Science Center.
- 43:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:18SPEAKER_04: Which is what this is the scene that you really enjoy because um Woody Harrison starts sneezing uh as a fake distraction, and he's like, Oh, I'm allergic to something in here.
- 43:27SPEAKER_04: He's like, What could you possibly be allergic to?
- 43:29SPEAKER_04: It's like Hermetic seals.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hermetic seals.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: I'm allergic to hermetic seals.
- 43:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm allergic to it.
- 43:36SPEAKER_04: And so they take him away, and while he's doing that, um Dave Franco slides under the thing and starts like hacking and like starts grabbing the to take the chip out.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: He's very sneaky and very sexy about it.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: It's a very like sexy like slide.
- 43:50SPEAKER_04: Oh, also Lizzie Kaplan is like very obsessed with him this whole movie.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, she is very especially like she's very titillated at this particular moment, too.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: You can just tell.
- 43:59unknown: Yeah.
- 44:01SPEAKER_04: It's not really clear what what she likes about him, other than she just she's just kind of obsessed with him.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 44:08SPEAKER_04: And so they then there's this card trick, but they throw the card from each other, they're hiding it from all the security guards while they're being searched in the cell.
- 44:15SPEAKER_04: They're throwing, they're like moving the card around, throwing it to each other.
- 44:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: In a way that's completely the sleeves.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: There's no way that anyone could ever.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: No.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: But it's just it's so fun to me.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: And oh the the reason that like she's obsessed with him, apart from the fact that he's like very handsome, is like she says she's you faked your own death.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: I'm a huge fan of faking deaths.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: I think that that remember when she says that at like at the beginning, I think she's just like very like intrigued by that because she loves people who fake their own death.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I think that's what starts it.
- 44:50SPEAKER_04: Bizarre.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: But yes, the card throwing scene is it's so long.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: Not long enough, in my opinion, man.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Give me more card throwing.
- 45:04SPEAKER_04: I threw every possible thing you could do with a card.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: Yep, yeah, they do.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, they gave it their all.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: It goes through like every part of the body.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Every article of clothing, every hand, every yeah, like her behind bra.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:21SPEAKER_04: Bra.
- 45:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:23SPEAKER_04: Through everyone's sleeves, on the shoe, down the pantlet.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: It's just fantastic.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: On the arse of like the security guard, so they can take the back, one of their backs, like, hey man, good job.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: I I I just love it.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: The the music that plays during this scene is so good too.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: It's just kind of fun and like um.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: It's very Oceans 11.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, very much.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Um I I love this scene.
- 45:54SPEAKER_04: Um, it's a really fun scene, it just goes on way too long.
- 45:59SPEAKER_04: Um but then I then while that all that's going on, um The other two are in um the magic shop, Thaddeus and uh Dylan, and they're talking to the they're talking to the owner and and the daughter and the son.
- 46:16SPEAKER_04: Um and talking about something, uh Dylan gets distracted and Thaddeus escapes.
- 46:24SPEAKER_04: Of course.
- 46:26SPEAKER_04: In uh in a coffin.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, the only way some of this stuff would be uh possible is if some of these people really were magic.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: Like let's be honest here.
- 46:40SPEAKER_04: But also, looking back on that scene for later on in the movie, like for the end of the movie, it does make sense how that happened.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 46:53SPEAKER_04: In terms of like who they are to Thaddeus.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 46:57SPEAKER_04: It just does it does make sense.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: Cool, I'll take your word for it.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'll be honest, I pay less attention to like the two older characters in this movie.
- 47:07SPEAKER_04: Where's Jesse?
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: So true, so true.
- 47:18SPEAKER_04: Lizzie Kaplan with Dave Franco is you with Jesse Eisenberg.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, yeah.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know what?
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: No lies detected.
- 47:31SPEAKER_04: Um but anyway, Dylan saves Daniel?
- 47:35SPEAKER_04: Who's Daniel?
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Atlas! Daniel Atlas.
- 47:40SPEAKER_04: Oh, Dylan saves him from water, anyway.
- 47:44SPEAKER_04: For some reason somehow.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: Um he almost drowns.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: Is that the part?
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: Remember?
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: Because he locks he locks him in the safe.
- 47:52SPEAKER_04: No, this is before that.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: Or no, he locks it.
- 47:55SPEAKER_04: It's right before that.
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because Dylan saves Daniel.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: Dylan saves so Daniel saves Dylan.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: Daniel saves D After that.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: I'm messing this all up.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: Like I said, it's complicated.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 48:15SPEAKER_04: Mark Ruffalo saves Jesse Eisenberg, but in the process gets captured by by Walser, by Daniel Radcliffe.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: Because of that, they put him in the safe and throw him underwater.
- 48:29SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 48:30SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 48:30SPEAKER_04: But then the four horsemen save him.
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: And then he That's where we're up to now.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: There's that I always have something up my sleeve, and he remembers, right?
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: Was that that part?
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: I always have something up my sleeve and he has the thing.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: Possibly.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: In his do you know what I'm talking about?
- 48:48SPEAKER_04: Uh I might have just missed it.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: And he has the little the little key or the pin to like.
- 48:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: That makes sense.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: That's in there somewhere.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: Dressed.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: I believe you.
- 49:03SPEAKER_04: Um but it turns out that Thaddeus delivered Dylan to uh Walter, and we learn that Michael Cain is Daniel Ryklus' father in this.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: Um so all of that is going on at the same time.
- 49:20SPEAKER_04: Um and they save him and he's got the chip, but it turns out it's fake.
- 49:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:30SPEAKER_04: So after everything, the chip is not real.
- 49:39SPEAKER_04: Um and they go to they go back to the magic shop, I think.
- 49:46SPEAKER_04: I can't remember why.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then they find out that the people in the magic shop are like part of the eye.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: Like everyone's part of the eye.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 49:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so that's where.
- 49:58SPEAKER_04: What was I why did I take issue with that?
- 50:02SPEAKER_04: Um I said- I remember I said this earlier that I take issue with that.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: Oh, right, right, right.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: Um what was it?
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: It was that Jesse Eisenberg is the only reason they go to the magic shop in the first place.
- 50:17SPEAKER_04: If that's the case, then what they could not have been involved at all, technically, if Jesse Eisenberg hadn't suggested it.
- 50:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: Because he just, yeah, thought of it like out of nowhere, like, oh, we can go to that magic shop.
- 50:34unknown: Yeah.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: And then they play like an integral role.
- 50:37SPEAKER_04: That's what I'm trying to that's where I'll try to.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: So makes sense.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: I'd never thought of that before, but yeah, okay.
- 50:44SPEAKER_04: I didn't think of it until we started discussing it.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's fair.
- 50:50SPEAKER_04: So that's a plot hole there.
- 50:52SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, anyway, they are part of the eye.
- 50:55SPEAKER_04: Um, and it they just the the four horsemen decide they're gonna go to London and do a huge performance to lure them in, to lure the other people in through trickery.
- 51:07SPEAKER_04: Um so Jack goes and does like this uh he goes to like Piccadilly Circus and does like this like um three-card Monty trick.
- 51:16SPEAKER_04: Um Jesse Eisenberg stops the rain.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Does the rain, yeah.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: Which he does notice in the magic shop in the earlier on.
- 51:25SPEAKER_04: He like notices this thing.
- 51:26SPEAKER_04: So like it's a good callback to that.
- 51:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: Like they do introduce that.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: Not clear what that is, but the it's flashing lights, right?
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: Because that's what they do with that.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: That's what they do.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: They always they they do the tricks and then they like revealed to everyone who's gonna be able to do that.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: I mean, what the how he's doing the rain thing is not clear.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, I mean Yeah, I don't know.
- 51:44SPEAKER_04: I want it to be real.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter, yeah.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter, it's Jesse.
- 51:52SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, they stop the rain, and then um uh Leslie Kaplan does this thing with like she's putting on a show with like uh birds and stuff and pigeons and making them fly out of people's uh zippers and embarrassing them and like.
- 52:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a fun scene, actually.
- 52:18SPEAKER_04: Like with the three of them all doing that simultaneously.
- 52:21SPEAKER_04: Alright, great.
- 52:22SPEAKER_04: Um while all that's going on, uh it's kind of there as a distraction, but Walter knows it's a distraction.
- 52:32SPEAKER_04: He he's like, we know this is gonna be a distraction.
- 52:35SPEAKER_04: Um but it's a distraction on top of it.
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: It's a layered thing of like this is intentional, we know that you're gonna know that it's a distraction.
- 52:46SPEAKER_04: Uh we know, they know, we know, we know, they know, we know.
- 52:49SPEAKER_04: Literally.
- 52:52SPEAKER_04: It really does overcomplicate itself here.
- 52:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:55SPEAKER_04: Um they go on a uh they try and run away uh to to Greenwich, there's a bike chase, they get caught.
- 53:04SPEAKER_04: And they get told hand over the card.
- 53:08SPEAKER_04: Or the like the chip.
- 53:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's the chip, isn't it?
- 53:12SPEAKER_04: They get told to hand over.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 53:17unknown: Yes.
- 53:18SPEAKER_04: They get kidnapp they get kidnapped and put on a plane, basically.
- 53:21SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 53:21SPEAKER_04: Uh with Michael Cain and Daniel Radcliffe.
- 53:24SPEAKER_04: And they get told to hand over a chip.
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:26SPEAKER_04: The cart.
- 53:28SPEAKER_04: And they hand it over and they get thrown from the plane.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: I remember in the theater, I was like, this is really getting dark.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: I was like, wait a minute.
- 53:40SPEAKER_04: Come on, you must have known.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: I d I mean I knew they weren't actually gonna die, but I didn't know how.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh my god, they're like straight up throwing them from an airplane.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Like, this is really kind of creepy.
- 53:51SPEAKER_04: It does seem like very intense, but at the same time, you're like I you knew, I know, like I knew it wasn't gonna be something planned.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: Obviously, yeah.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, they're gonna, you know, secretly have like I don't know, parachutes or something.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I didn't know how they were gonna pull it off.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: So they start uh Daniel Radcliffe and Michael Kane start celebrating by drinking like this this sparkling wine.
- 54:18SPEAKER_04: That's not, that's like actually, oh it tastes funny, yeah.
- 54:20SPEAKER_04: And then they're like, what's going on?
- 54:22SPEAKER_04: He like peels back the layer on the bottle and it says the fool is the card of the fool underneath, and and then all the lights come down, and they're like, What's going on?
- 54:33SPEAKER_04: You get all the power shut out, yeah.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: And the plane just stops moving.
- 54:37SPEAKER_04: The plane just stops moving, yeah.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: And then it turns out it was a set on the Thames.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: I I know, and you're like, how did you realize this plane was not in the air?
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: Like, how did you not feel it take off?
- 54:48SPEAKER_01: Like, or not take off.
- 54:50SPEAKER_04: Well, it turns out that they were hypnotized.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: Wait, were they hypnotized?
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: I don't remember that.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: Oh no, they weren't.
- 54:57SPEAKER_04: So it was only Woody Housen's brother that was hypnotized.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, they weren't, they actually put this plane that was in the air.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Which, if you've ever been in an airplane, like you know what in what it feels like for an airplane to like lift off.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: So I'm not sure how they didn't know that they weren't.
- 55:15SPEAKER_04: Is that different?
- 55:15SPEAKER_04: I mean uh Maybe it feels a bit weirder.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've never been on a private plane.
- 55:19SPEAKER_04: I haven't either, but I know it's smaller.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: But right, much smaller, yeah.
- 55:24SPEAKER_04: So they probably just had to shake it more.
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: Possibly.
- 55:30SPEAKER_04: I bet they were just hypnotised to be honest.
- 55:32SPEAKER_01: So maybe, yeah, okay, sure, that's how we'll justify it.
- 55:35SPEAKER_04: Um But yeah, he basically basically it was all a long con.
- 55:40SPEAKER_04: Uh they got hypnotised, like he uh Woody House and brother got hypnotised to to think he was bringing them in, but technically that they were leading him to do this in the first place.
- 55:51SPEAKER_04: Um tricked him into doing it all, and all the characters all of those guys get arrested.
- 55:57SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 55:57SPEAKER_01: In front of like a million people in London on New Year's Eve.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:06SPEAKER_04: And I tell you something, I will tell you something.
- 56:09SPEAKER_04: Midnight on New Year's Day is a big thing.
- 56:11SPEAKER_04: If that was the thing going on, people would be pissed off.
- 56:16SPEAKER_04: There's usually fireworks going on and everything at a big celebration.
- 56:20SPEAKER_04: They would not be happy if that was like just a screen of people getting arrested.
- 56:26SPEAKER_04: They would not be cheering with that.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, I get the feeling that like in this context, in this fake world, though, the the horsemen are kind of like like a group of people that yeah, that people are rooting for.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: You know, so I could I could see it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_04: I guess so.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: They're these like vigilante justice, like, you know.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: They're like anonymous, but they're not anonymous.
- 56:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 56:53SPEAKER_04: Um but then then we learn that this is where it really steps up to get complicated.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: Again.
- 57:03SPEAKER_04: Okay, but this is like, wait, what's going on?
- 57:05SPEAKER_04: Thaddeus and Dylan's father were partners, we learn.
- 57:09SPEAKER_04: And they were not rivals, they were partners.
- 57:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:12SPEAKER_04: Um doesn't make any sense to to anything that happens, but fine, I'll go along with it.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: It'll all be revealed in the third movie.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: It'll all make sense.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: We just need that third movie.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: Surround everything out.
- 57:31SPEAKER_04: So they go to the Greenwich uh place and uh the Greenwich Observatory and and they they run into Alan from the Macau place.
- 57:42SPEAKER_04: The guy with the moustache.
- 57:44SPEAKER_04: Um and he's like, oh hey, see I fancy seeing you here, basically.
- 57:50SPEAKER_04: Um and uh Thaddeus appoints Dylan as the new leader of the Four Horsemen or of the Eye or the Four Horsemen?
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: Dylan's already the leader of the Four Horsemen.
- 58:03SPEAKER_04: So I guess of the of the eye.
- 58:04SPEAKER_04: I think that's Dylan is the new leader of the eye.
- 58:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 58:07SPEAKER_04: Um and then And he's like And then he Thaddeus goes to walk away.
- 58:16SPEAKER_04: He's like, don't look behind the curtain, and like winks at them and walks away.
- 58:19SPEAKER_04: So they obviously go behind the curtain and it's like a spiral staircase that looks like the eye.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 58:27SPEAKER_04: And that's the end of the film.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: No, it's like a cliffhanger.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: It is a cliffhanger.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: There needs to be a third movie.
- 58:37SPEAKER_04: So with all that Okay.
- 58:44SPEAKER_04: With all that explained, already.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, pretty cut and dry.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:47unknown: Yeah.
- 58:49SPEAKER_04: Um, all that now, out in the open.
- 58:54SPEAKER_04: Um, what other than Jesse Eisenberg, what is it what is it that you love about this movie?
- 59:00SPEAKER_01: Other than his bald head.
- 59:02SPEAKER_04: Um I'm not even bald.
- 59:04SPEAKER_04: He's just got short hair.
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's okay, shaved.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: Um I I love shorter.
- 59:12SPEAKER_01: I love the cast.
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: Um, I love the cast.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: I think it's so fun.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: Visually, I think it's beautiful.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: I just think it's so silly.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: The acting is so fun.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: I love the music.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: I love how goofy it is.
- 59:27SPEAKER_01: It's just an escape.
- 59:29SPEAKER_01: I remember I when I saw it in the theater, um, I love like all the different locations it took place in, and I hadn't been, it actually like um inspired me.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: I was like, I haven't been to London in forever.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: So I like booked my trip to London after I saw that in the theater.
- 59:44SPEAKER_01: And I j I did, yeah.
- 59:46SPEAKER_04: So I would not think this movie would inspire you to London.
- 59:50SPEAKER_04: Any movie.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: Seeing the like the skyline at the end just made me miss it.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, it's just so fun and silly.
- 59:59SPEAKER_01: Again, I love the case.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_04: It's very silly.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_04: It's a fun it's a fun movie.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_04: I yeah.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: I love the music.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: The the score, the like original music for now you see me, um, for both movies.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: I really love.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_04: I think that is actually really nice.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, I just it's fun.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: It makes me happy, you know, and that's what movies are about, right?
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: In the end, like it's just it makes it makes me happy, and it's something I like to go back to and just watch, and it always makes me feel a little better because it it's just fun.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_01: It's just fun.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_04: Are you a fan of magic movies in general, or is it just this these these specific ones?
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean I'm trying to think of like other magic movies.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_04: Like there were there were the two that came out at the same time, which were The Prestige and the other one.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_04: Um The Prestige is the Christopher Nolan one.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I saw that a long time ago.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_01: I would so I would say no.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: I think it's just these ones.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_04: What was the other one?
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_04: The other one was like Jessica Beale in it.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_04: What were they?
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_04: They k they literally came out are the illusionist is the other one.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: I never saw that one.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_04: I don't know if I ever did.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: But I remember liking The Prestige, even though I've just spoken badly about her saying how much I don't like Christopher Nolan.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_04: Um I do like The Prestige.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_01: I think I might have seen that.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: That was a long time ago, right?
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_04: It's like mid 2000s.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_04: 2006 or something.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: Was that the one with Hugh Jackman?
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I saw that in the theater.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I would say I don't necessarily gravitate toward like magic.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: So it's not the magic itself that you enjoy so much as just the the characters and yeah, and the way they interact with each other and yeah.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_01: It's just as a whole.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: I can't pinpoint like one thing.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: It's just makes me happy.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_04: Just the whole vibe of the movie you enjoy.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_01: Everything about it.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_01: And I just like it.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_04: I again I don't I know I've like spoken badly about it.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_04: I don't hate this movie.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_04: By any stretch.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_04: I don't hate this movie by any stretch.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_04: I and I could easily sit down and watch it again.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_04: It's just a movie you've got to turn your brain off for.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_04: Um you've just got to stop like we I know we've looked at it logically here.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_04: You kind of got not got to do that.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: And if you don't look at it logically, it's a fun movie.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_04: If you don't try and dissect it like this, it's fun and it wor it can work.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_04: Um I think I don't know.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_04: I don't, yeah, like I said, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman are great in this.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_04: They don't they're not really trying.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_04: Daniel Radcliffe, not the greatest villain.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: No, but that makes it kind of funny though, because he's just like this little squirrely dude, and he's like trying to be all bad, you know.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I I love Lizzie Kaplan in this.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_01: Like she really, yeah, she didn't vote it in.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: Like, she was all in.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: Um I don't think any of the the main cast phoned it in.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_04: I think they were all trying.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_04: Um I kind of would have liked to see the uh the mother and son do more.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_01: Uh the ma The Magic Shop mother.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I would've liked to see them be involved more.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_04: Because also he the two of them are like very big actors as well.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_04: And they're kind of wasted.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: Um fair.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_04: But other than that, like, yeah, I I think it's perfectly fine.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_04: Like, it's it's exactly what you're gonna get, what you think you're gonna get with like a Mart Ruffalo movie or uh Woody Harrison movie.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: Woody Harrelson, yeah.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: 100%, yeah.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_04: Um Jesse Eisenberg's very Jesse Eisenberg.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: Yep, he always is.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_04: And Dave Franco is the same, he always is as well.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_01: Yep, he sure is.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_04: It's very much what you think you're gonna get with all these people.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_01: So it's comfortable.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_01: It's fun, it's very comfortable.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: It's a it's a comfort movie, yeah.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I see that.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: I can definitely see that.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: Now, if you were to if there is a third one, what would you want to see happen?
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: Um I would like to see like the truth about Dylan's father, like what actually happened to him, because I do think that's what they were leaning toward, that it was all, yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: That for some reason he had to like had to fake his own death for like to set something else off.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_01: Um I I do so like yeah, I would like that to be cleared up.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_01: And I mean, God, I would love um Isla Fisher's character to come back for a cameo, but like I she already said she wasn't going to, I guess.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: So that's fine.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_04: But that was also years ago.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I you know, maybe just like a quick cameo would be kind of fun.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_04: Well, she's leading it the eye.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would yeah, so I would like to see, yeah, whatever happened with Dylan's dad get cleared up, and then maybe like maybe um Atlas, I feel like at the end would get the baton handed off to him.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_01: I've maybe um that makes sense to be like the lead, right?
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_01: Like that feels like a natural progression, yeah, of where it's going.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_01: I think I would like to see that.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I kind of agree with you there.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_04: I think that what they are leading up to, what they were trying to lead up to was that Dylan would get closure with his dad and then they would pass it on to Atlas.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_04: And then Okay.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_04: If they had to bring in a new person for the villain, who would you want?
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_01: Oh man, a new person for the villain.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_01: Um I mean, you know, I'm a fan of any of the Skarsguard brothers, but I can't really see any of them doing a Now You See Me movie.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: Um gosh.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: I feel like I need time to think about this a lot.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_04: There's so many.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: There's so many.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: I literally just thought the question.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: No, that's a good question.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_01: And I like I never would have guessed like Daniel Radcliffe to be a villain.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: He's so you know, it could be like like anyone.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_04: Um It's also fascinating that they got Daniel Radcliffe to do another magic movie.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love that.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_01: I almost feel like he did it in a tongue-in-cheek way.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, there is a thing at the start he says where he like kind of like says something tongue-in-cheek about it.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: He does, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_04: He says something about like you guys believing in magic, but uh only believing like reality or something like that.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: Maybe I don't know, maybe like Evan Peters or something like that, right?
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_04: Ooh, I like that.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_04: That's a good choice.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_04: At the same time, I kind of think if I think the third one has to have like the an older villain.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_04: Because it's like the lead uh whoever it's gonna be, I feel like.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be someone controlling everything.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_04: So I don't know.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe a woman.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: Maybe a woman.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, why not?
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_04: That haven't had one yet, so yeah.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_04: Women are not entirely well represented in this in these movies.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, they're not.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: Just, you know, Lizzie running around in her little black dress the entire time and her like boots, yeah.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_04: Taking off her bra.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_01: It's a little sexist.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_01: I let it slide, you know, like a lot of things in this movie.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: Uh a little sexist, a little some light racism at times, I also feel like as well.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: Um, that I noticed, but yeah.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: When they arrive in Macau, yeah.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_04: But yeah, it's it's just it's a fun movie, and again, yeah, turn turn your mind off and turn your brain off, and you'll enjoy it.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_01: I exactly.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's a reason I keep going back to it, like, you know.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_01: And it's not just Jesse.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_04: You work in so you work in uh news, don't you?
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_04: So like have you ever had to interview any of these people?
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_04: Do you get to do you do any interviews?
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: So yeah, when I was reporting, I did.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_01: Um I'm not a reporter anymore.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: I mean I never did I mean, I did like news, like hard news, you know what I mean?
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: There was, I'm trying to think, um my first job was in Wyoming and I interviewed uh Luke Perry one time and he was really sweet.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_01: Um but no, I mean, yeah, it was because it was um, no, I wish.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_01: I wish I have a coworker who does um these kind of interviews, um, and I'm always like annoying the heck out of him because I'm like, You have my dream job.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_01: Um no, yeah, that would be like the ultimate, the ultimate goal.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_04: The ultimate goal.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_04: I think the ultimate goal would be to get a set visit.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, well, yeah, sure.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_01: I mean Yeah, I mean, I've definitely been on sets as like extra, but you know, when you're an extra, you're treated like garbage.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_01: So you're not actually supposed to talk to anyone.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_04: Don't even look them in the eye.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_01: Um, I feel like Luke Perry is the only still a good person to interview.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he was very nice.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: He's so nice.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: We miss Luke Perry.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's sad.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_04: Um okay, so do you have any final thoughts on this, or should we move on to the next uh segment, the final segment?
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_04: Anything we forgot to bring up.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel like we've covered everything.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: All my favorite parts, my favorite scenes.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_04: Okay, so let's move on to the final segment then, which is uh the reverse of this, which is do you have a movie that is universally loved by critics and fans that you think is a bad movie?
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, I I thought about this a lot.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, I'm someone who if if a movie is good, you know, like technically good, I'm never gonna be like, this is bad.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_01: I might be like, oh this is boring, or like it just isn't for me, you know what I mean?
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_01: But I do remember um thinking um when boyhood came out that I wasn't as obsessed with that as everyone else was.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_01: Um so I yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_01: So I decided to go with that one because just because I think people are so um impressed, understandably, with like uh the fact that it was shot over so many years, like it was a pretty amazing feat, right?
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_01: So they kind of forgive the fact that the story itself really isn't that great and yeah the the boy, the actor, really isn't that good?
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_04: Like I know what you're saying.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_01: He's not, and I know, you know, they how were they supposed to know, right, when they cast this little boy that as he grew up, maybe he wasn't gonna be that great.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I don't I I just I don't think he was, and you know, and we really haven't seen him in anything else.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_01: I think he was in that movie with Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: Do you remember that movie, The Circle?
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_04: Oh, I never saw that.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_01: I heard it was yeah, yeah, it was bad.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_01: It was bad.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_01: It was like in and out of the theater, and I I saw it in the theater and I was like, oh my god.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_04: Oh no.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_01: This is bad.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_04: Um he was also in another Link Lake movie afterwards, I think.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I just I couldn't, yeah, even now I couldn't tell you what I can't even think of a particular scene or anything in that movie that seems actually.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm trying to think of scenes in that movie.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_04: I so I remember loving it when I saw it the first time.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_04: I remember being like, oh, this is amazing.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_04: Now I look back on it and I'm I'm like, I kind of agree.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_04: I think technically I was kind of enthralled by it and then forgave a lot of the exactly, yeah.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_04: Like this.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:12:31unknown: Exactly.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, like I think I was kind of like amazed by the whole feat of like, oh, this was filmed over 12 years.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_04: So that's kind of amazing and what I think.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_04: I think we all are, yeah.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_04: But then you look back and like the story is not very good, right?
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_04: And the acting is not very good.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_04: And I don't think it holds up as well as we thought it was going to.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's kind of been forgotten already, you know what I mean?
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_04: Like it's and it was the best it was best picture winner, wasn't it?
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_01: It I don't know if it won.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_01: I remember Patricia Arquette won.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah for it lose?
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_04: Oh, it lost to um it lost to the Michael Keaton one.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, Birdman.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_04: Birdman.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_04: Which I also didn't like.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_01: I I didn't love Birdman um either.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_04: I have a lot of issues with Birdman.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, as for this one, like I do, yeah.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_04: I can't I'm kind of with you now.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_04: I think like looking back on it, uh I s it's not as good.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_04: It's also very long.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_04: It's two hours forty six.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_04: I just look I just thought it was two hours forty six.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: Very long, very long.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_01: Um, for a movie where not a lot happens.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_04: And I I I've I'm always impressed by the experiment when people take experiments on these kind of things.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_04: And um so yeah, I kind of applaud that, but at the same time wish that they'd done something with the story.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_04: I know that they kind of were writing it as they were going.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_04: Because of like they weren't sure of like what was going on.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_04: And I think that kind of hindered it a little bit.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_04: And I think they should have kind of made it into made the story first.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I mean, you know, it's a it's a coming of age movie, right?
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_01: Like, so granted, it's maybe about as exciting as everyone's life is as they grow up, but that doesn't mean it needs to be a three-hour movie.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_04: Like, also doesn't mean it needs to be boring.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_01: My childhood was more exciting than this.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: Like, what?
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_01: Stuff can happen.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, yeah.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_04: Pick the best moments from the person the kid's childhood and stick them in.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I can't even, like, honestly, I can't even tell you anything.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_04: I'm trying to think of moments in that movie.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_04: I do not remember anything except for the car him driving in the car at the end.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't even remember that.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_01: I remember driving to college at the end.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_04: That's all I remember.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_01: There's a scene with like a grandpa and he has like a shotgun or something like that, and he's like showing him in his gun or something like that.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_01: No memory of that.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_01: No memory.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_01: Only thing I remember.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_04: Well, there you go.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm gonna remember more of this movie.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_04: Um thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_01: Thank you for giving me this opportunity to to talk about this movie that I has brought me so much joy over the last five years of my life.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_01: And like, I just never really knew how to express that until now.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_01: So thank you.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_01: I've gotten a lot of weird looks from people when I've told them how much I love this movie.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_01: Or confused looks because they're like, there was a sequel to Now You See Me.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, yes, there was.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_04: Oh, my final, my final problem with this is called Now You See Me Too.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_04: Instead of Now You See Me.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_01: Not now you don't.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_01: I know, yeah.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_01: And I mean, the third one could definitely be called Now You Three Me as well, but like we'll see if it ever happens.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_04: That would make sense.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_04: This could have even been called Now To See Me.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_01: Now to see me, yeah.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_04: If you really want to go with the two, if you really have to have the two in there.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_01: Some missed opportunities for sure.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_04: I know that the director and the writer really pushed to have now you don't as a title, but um did they?
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_01: For real.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, I saw a lot of people joking about it when it came out.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_04: They wanted to call it Now You See Me, Colonel Now You Don't.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_01: A little on the nose, but like we all would have like, you know, we we were all.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_01: It would have been funny.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_04: It fits it fits with the style of the movie.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_04: Um But yeah, so how can we um how can we find you online and how do you have anything you want to promote at the moment?
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_01: Um, so I am I mean I'm deactivated right now, but I'll be back on in later weeks.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_01: So I'm at the movie Mermaid on Twitter.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_01: And then um I also co-host a movie review podcast called Josh and Cassie Yell About Movies.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_04: And is that is that on all platforms?
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_04: It is, yeah.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, we're everywhere.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_04: Perfect.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_04: So as soon as you're done listening to this, go over and listen to that.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, exactly.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_04: What kind of movie?
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_04: What do you review?
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_04: Just anything in general.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_01: We uh mostly like try and do more recent movies like ones that are just coming out.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_01: Um, we might branch out eventually and do some like older movies like classics and stuff like that.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_01: We're not really sure.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_01: And we try and have like guests on and stuff a lot too.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_01: Nice, yeah.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_01: It all depends, just whatever we're feeling.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_04: And don't you have a video version of it as well?
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_04: We do.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, so it again, it kind of depends.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_01: We only recently started doing that, and the videos that we release are usually like unedited just because uh Josh doesn't know how to edit them.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_01: That's what he said.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_01: They're unedited because I don't know how to edit them, which is fine.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, so um we have some episodes on YouTube under Josh's uh account, which is Joshua Dudley on YouTube.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then we also have our own Twitter page, which is at YellaboutMovies.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_01: Nice yes.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_04: Awesome.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_04: Well, gotta check that out, everyone.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_04: And thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_01: Thanks for having me, Giannis.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_04: That's the end of the podcast.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_04: If you enjoyed it, please leave us a review and rate us a iTunes so we can end up making more episodes.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_04: And I'll see you next week for more movies that critics got dog.
