- 0:00Speaker 1: Are you recording? I am now. Please record this.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I just want to say thank you for sticking
- 0:08Speaker 2: with us. We had a horrible host. I'm glad y'all
- 0:12Speaker 2: saw through the other side of that. Now we're getting
- 0:15Speaker 2: ready to start rolling. Now we're rolling.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee. Let's Talk is
- 0:36Speaker 3: proudly presented by attorney Frank Walker. Real talk, real experience,
- 0:40Speaker 3: real results. FrankWalkerLaw.com. Let the conversation begin on Let's Talk.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Listen, I will kick you off the show like just
- 0:50Speaker 4: with a button.
- 0:51Speaker 5: Oh, don't listen to him.
- 0:52Speaker 1: He kicks me off every week, Sterling. It's okay. You
- 0:56Speaker 1: know what? Let me just say this. What's you all's record?
- 1:04Speaker 2: Time to start the show. I'm undefeated personally.
- 1:07Speaker 4: There you go.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But the team that you played for.
- 1:13Speaker 2: If you're talking about my Green Bay Packers, we going
- 1:17Speaker 2: through some things right now.
- 1:20Speaker 1: We are too. We are too.
- 1:22Speaker 4: Vikings winning. We're going through a couple things winning.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You got the pool right now, but we'll be back.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Get this started.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Can I even introduce the show? Can I even introduce
- 1:34Speaker 4: the show?
- 1:35Speaker 1: Sterling will.
- 1:36Speaker 2: He just did that.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He took care of that for you.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Hey, Carl, you being redundant.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I'm not redundant. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I guess we're
- 1:48Speaker 4: ready to go.
- 1:49Speaker 1: We're rolling.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We're rolling.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Bro, what's going.
- 1:54Speaker 2: On with you? I'm just leaving the Marquis Grissom Foundation
- 2:01Speaker 2: golf outing outside of Atlanta. I'm on the road for
- 2:06Speaker 2: about two and a half hours. I'm going down, spend
- 2:09Speaker 2: some time with my sister before she goes to Vegas,
- 2:13Speaker 2: spend some time with my brother. So, you know, just
- 2:16Speaker 2: got to make sure the old girl's still doing well
- 2:18Speaker 2: and moving around and doing that kind of stuff.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I hear you. I hear you. When I told my
- 2:24Speaker 4: mom that you were going to be on the show,
- 2:26Speaker 4: she said, oh, that's good. I said, well, I didn't
- 2:28Speaker 4: invite him. He just kind of invited himself. And she
- 2:31Speaker 4: just busted out laughing.
- 2:34Speaker 2: She knows the truth. She knows what's real.
- 2:37Speaker 1: She knows how you work, you know. So, bro, I'm
- 2:41Speaker 1: going to jump right into this.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So.
- 2:44Speaker 4: When you look at, and I'm doing this as myself too,
- 2:49Speaker 4: when you're looking at like the Packers, I'm looking at
- 2:52Speaker 4: the Vikings, not necessarily wins and losses, but when you
- 2:56Speaker 4: see them and you, is there any time that you
- 3:00Speaker 4: like reflect on, hmm, what was that team, your team
- 3:04Speaker 4: like versus their team?
- 3:07Speaker 1: Like, How that fits?
- 3:10Speaker 2: The similarities are I'm looking at them, and I know
- 3:16Speaker 2: Josh Jacobs is on the commissioner's list and not playing.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And I know Micah is still coming back from his injury.
- 3:25Speaker 2: But I'm looking at them, and I'm like, okay, we
- 3:30Speaker 2: kind of knew this coming into the season. And I
- 3:35Speaker 2: don't think we're in a position where we're looking, waiting
- 3:38Speaker 2: for those two players to come back. I believe we
- 3:42Speaker 2: have enough firepower, both offensively and defensively, to right the shift.
- 3:49Speaker 2: But it seems like plays at inopportune times, whether it's
- 3:54Speaker 2: incompletions or interceptions or drops or whatever the case may be,
- 3:59Speaker 2: blown coverage on defense, it just seems like a little
- 4:03Speaker 2: out of sorts. And I, you know, I'm looking at
- 4:07Speaker 2: a football team that look, you have a lot of
- 4:10Speaker 2: enough pieces in place that it should be better than
- 4:14Speaker 2: what we saw. And I'm speaking as a fan should
- 4:18Speaker 2: be better than what we saw against the Falcon. It
- 4:22Speaker 2: should be better. It really should. And I know that
- 4:26Speaker 2: they wanted to be better and, and, And I'm sure
- 4:30Speaker 2: that coaching staff is doing everything they can to try
- 4:33Speaker 2: to get their players in a position to make plays.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Oh, Sterling, I don't know about you, but Thursday night
- 4:40Speaker 5: was painful for me. I had people texting me and saying,
- 4:43Speaker 5: I thought the Browns played on Sunday this week.
- 4:46Speaker 1: And so, you know, I.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Was feeling it. Sorry, ma'am. I almost hit somebody when
- 4:54Speaker 2: you said that.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Hold on now. But I wanted to ask you about this, Sterling.
- 5:00Speaker 5: So against the Falcons, the team managed 17 total rushing yards.
- 5:05Speaker 5: They're the third worst NFL team for converting the third
- 5:09Speaker 5: down at 19.1%. How do we turn those types of
- 5:14Speaker 5: things around with the staff that we have and the
- 5:18Speaker 5: coaches that we have in place?
- 5:20Speaker 2: Well, you know, Lisa, to go back to what Carl
- 5:25Speaker 2: was saying about, you know, when I was playing and
- 5:28Speaker 2: we were going through a similar situation like this, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 2: Mike Holmgren would always say to us, hey, look, you're
- 5:35Speaker 2: our guy. So we're going to start starting. with you
- 5:40Speaker 2: and let everything else branch out. Christian Watson seems to
- 5:45Speaker 2: be back healthy. It seems like our tight end game
- 5:49Speaker 2: has kind of disappeared a little bit, and I'm not
- 5:53Speaker 2: sure what the case or why that is. Of course,
- 5:58Speaker 2: Without Josh Jacobs, it seems like we have no intentions
- 6:03Speaker 2: on running the ball. Yes. And yet I'm still watching
- 6:07Speaker 2: play action. I'm saying to myself, okay, if you're not
- 6:12Speaker 2: fooling me sitting on my sofa, you definitely ain't fooling
- 6:14Speaker 2: people that have been paid to watch this. Sure. So
- 6:18Speaker 2: I just think that they're going to have to start
- 6:21Speaker 2: to zero some, you know, whether it's Christian Watson in
- 6:24Speaker 2: the passing game or figure out how to get our,
- 6:26Speaker 2: our tight ends more involved. I just think they're going
- 6:29Speaker 2: to have to start with, with a zero and go
- 6:32Speaker 2: from there. But it seems like, and I haven't played
- 6:36Speaker 2: the game. I do not want to say this, but
- 6:39Speaker 2: it looks like they, it looks like they don't know. Yes.
- 6:43Speaker 2: You know, it's like, Hey, we're going to, you know,
- 6:45Speaker 2: Jordan love is our quarterback and, and, We're going to
- 6:48Speaker 2: put it all on him, but it just seems like
- 6:51Speaker 2: we're a half a step, three quarters of a step
- 6:55Speaker 2: late on either protection or delivery or ball location. And
- 7:02Speaker 2: so right now, I'm going to say that my team
- 7:06Speaker 2: is struggling, but I just think they've got to get
- 7:09Speaker 2: to a place where they can have a jumping off
- 7:12Speaker 2: point and go from there.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Go ahead, Olive. No, I was just about to say that.
- 7:16Speaker 6: That's something that irritates me too when teams just do
- 7:18Speaker 6: play action just to do it. I don't understand it,
- 7:21Speaker 6: and you see it at all levels. And as much
- 7:24Speaker 6: as we are into this modern football, the running game
- 7:28Speaker 6: is still an integral part, and we see how that
- 7:30Speaker 6: helps the quarterbacks. We see what it's doing for Patrick
- 7:33Speaker 6: Mahomes and his comeback. What can they do in order
- 7:36Speaker 6: to at least try to establish a running game or
- 7:39Speaker 6: at least try to have the threat thereof?
- 7:43Speaker 2: You know, Hollis, I love being this fan thing because
- 7:46Speaker 2: when you're a fan, you can say what you want.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Nobody holds you accountable. You know, Hollis, and I've always
- 7:54Speaker 2: felt this way. If somebody makes our team, they are
- 7:59Speaker 2: as valuable as I am. So if Josh Jacobs is
- 8:03Speaker 2: not playing, whoever your backup running back is, he is
- 8:06Speaker 2: now your Josh Jacobs. And you're going to have to
- 8:10Speaker 2: be committed to to that individual. And I just, you know,
- 8:15Speaker 2: and I'm taking this one game sample because it's the
- 8:18Speaker 2: last game we saw. I'm watching them and they're not,
- 8:23Speaker 2: I don't want to say committed. They don't have the
- 8:26Speaker 2: intent on running the football. And when you don't have intent,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know, now I think a lot of the game
- 8:37Speaker 2: you put in, like the play action pass game, it's
- 8:42Speaker 2: kind of counterproductive because you have no intent on running
- 8:48Speaker 2: the football. So if Jordan Love is your guy and
- 8:51Speaker 2: Kristen Watson and the outside passing game is what you're
- 8:55Speaker 2: hanging your hat on, let's come out and let's wing
- 8:58Speaker 2: it 61 times. Because now I know, okay, we don't
- 9:03Speaker 2: have a running game, so we're going to lean on
- 9:06Speaker 2: our high-priced quarterback We're going to lean on our big
- 9:11Speaker 2: wide receivers, and we're going to move it that way.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I can live with that. But when I watch my team,
- 9:18Speaker 2: it looks as though we're trying to be conventional without
- 9:23Speaker 2: the conventional pieces.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Because if you can't run the ball, then... Most teams
- 9:30Speaker 4: will spread it out and just start throwing the ball,
- 9:32Speaker 4: which I'm thinking is what you're suggesting, that if they
- 9:36Speaker 4: are not going to be able to run the ball
- 9:38Speaker 4: and you can throw the ball, you should be, whether
- 9:42Speaker 4: it's three wide receivers, four wide receivers, two receivers, back
- 9:46Speaker 4: out of the backfield. You've got to find something. You
- 9:50Speaker 4: can't stay on what you like as the coach. You
- 9:55Speaker 4: can't do what you like when you don't have the
- 9:58Speaker 4: players to do that.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I agree. And, you know, Carl, I used to always say, hey, look,
- 10:06Speaker 2: what the Green Bay Packers gave us on Thursday is
- 10:09Speaker 2: pretty much what they practiced. They knew they didn't have
- 10:12Speaker 2: Josh coming into this game. So it wasn't like they
- 10:16Speaker 2: came in with a hope. that all of a sudden
- 10:20Speaker 2: the running game was going to kind of balance out
- 10:22Speaker 2: the passing game. They knew last Monday, they knew last Tuesday,
- 10:26Speaker 2: they weren't going to intend to run the football, but
- 10:31Speaker 2: they kept showing me that we're going to run this
- 10:36Speaker 2: play action pass because if the running game two series
- 10:40Speaker 2: ago would have worked, this is the play that can
- 10:42Speaker 2: pass off of that. And so I was sitting there
- 10:46Speaker 2: trying to get a grip on, What am I looking
- 10:51Speaker 2: at not as a player, as a fan? What am
- 10:54Speaker 2: I looking at? Okay, I know you don't have your
- 10:56Speaker 2: stud running back, and I don't know your second and
- 11:01Speaker 2: third running backs' names. So what are we looking at?
- 11:05Speaker 2: What are we doing? And it just seems like, like
- 11:08Speaker 2: I said, it just seemed like we were a half
- 11:11Speaker 2: a step late pass protection where, you know, Jordan is
- 11:15Speaker 2: getting ready to let it go, and he had to move.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You know, Jordan was ready to let it go, and
- 11:22Speaker 2: the coverage wouldn't allow him. It just seemed like we
- 11:24Speaker 2: were half a step behind on what our intent was
- 11:30Speaker 2: in that game.
- 11:32Speaker 5: Let me ask you this, Sterling, because what you're saying
- 11:34Speaker 5: kind of relates to something that I had written down.
- 11:36Speaker 5: And I feel like, just watching as a fan, like
- 11:39Speaker 5: you are now too, that the offensive line is non-functional.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Like Jordan Love, he's been hit, according to what I
- 11:46Speaker 5: read today, 20 times.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Over just three games.
- 11:50Speaker 5: Do you feel like that the offensive line needs an overhaul,
- 11:52Speaker 5: that that's part of their problem as well?
- 11:56Speaker 2: We can't overhaul them in week three. Seems a little
- 12:02Speaker 2: late and a little counterproductive. You know, my thing is this.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Jordan Love doesn't call any plays. He doesn't.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:10Speaker 2: And we have 16,000 analysts and people that are breaking
- 12:16Speaker 2: down the teams that we're going to play. And they're like,
- 12:19Speaker 2: here's their strengths. Here's what we think will work. You know,
- 12:23Speaker 2: I'm going to put it on the play callers and
- 12:26Speaker 2: whether you want to say it's the offensive coordinator or
- 12:29Speaker 2: the head coach, I'm putting it on them. If you,
- 12:33Speaker 2: as a player, if, I found that our quarterback was
- 12:38Speaker 2: getting rushed. My 14-yard route went to 12. I can
- 12:44Speaker 2: handle getting a minus because I didn't get the proper
- 12:48Speaker 2: depth in my route. But what I would counter and
- 12:53Speaker 2: say is, hey, coach, you want the ball out of
- 12:56Speaker 2: the quarterback's hands, right? And I did that. While I'm
- 13:01Speaker 2: robbing Peter, I'm paying Paul.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:04Speaker 2: And so I just think that as a play caller,
- 13:07Speaker 2: if you understand what you have on your offensive line, hey, look,
- 13:11Speaker 2: we're going into week four. You knew coming out of
- 13:15Speaker 2: training camp what you had.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Now, if you came out of training camp with an
- 13:20Speaker 2: offensive line that you hoped would be better passing the football,
- 13:25Speaker 2: that's your fault. If you came out of training camp
- 13:29Speaker 2: Hoping that Josh would be back so you could have
- 13:33Speaker 2: that guy to help facilitate your play action pass game. Okay,
- 13:39Speaker 2: you failed. You were wrong. And so I just think
- 13:42Speaker 2: that you have enough plays, passing plays in your arsenal.
- 13:47Speaker 2: And that's why I always felt, and I don't like
- 13:50Speaker 2: to use I, but I'm going to use it selfishly.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I don't want to run posts and goals and digs
- 13:57Speaker 2: and crossing routes and overs. Man, throw me hitches. Get
- 14:02Speaker 2: it out of your hands. If I can get it
- 14:05Speaker 2: out of your hands, your confidence goes up. Offensively, our
- 14:10Speaker 2: offensive line's confidence goes up. Receivers' confidence goes up. I
- 14:16Speaker 2: just think that Green Bay has enough quick passing game
- 14:20Speaker 2: plays and their wide receivers are big enough to be
- 14:24Speaker 2: able to handle, let's try and develop a rhythm of
- 14:29Speaker 2: intent on what we're doing to stay on the field,
- 14:34Speaker 2: third down, and to be able to give our defense
- 14:36Speaker 2: some rest.
- 14:37Speaker 4: But doesn't that have to happen through either the head coach,
- 14:41Speaker 4: what his philosophy is for his offense, or the offensive coordinator?
- 14:45Speaker 4: And is that in their mindsets?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Because I don't really think... I do believe that.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I believe that, Carl. I believe that offensively, you should
- 14:58Speaker 2: have a way, and I'm going to say communication, like, hey,
- 15:02Speaker 2: offensive line is struggling a little bit, whether it's their
- 15:05Speaker 2: scheme or their front. It looks like a little extra
- 15:09Speaker 2: than what we saw on film. I think that you
- 15:13Speaker 2: should be able to make adjustments Because you always got
- 15:19Speaker 2: your quick game. Because your quick game is a lot
- 15:22Speaker 2: of when you know the blitz is coming, we can
- 15:25Speaker 2: just go to what we used to call smoke, which
- 15:28Speaker 2: is just turn around and throw it out there to
- 15:30Speaker 2: a receiver, or dragon, which is a slant, or Omaha.
- 15:34Speaker 2: And if you're getting bump and run on Omaha, which
- 15:36Speaker 2: is a quick out, we're going to fly it. So
- 15:39Speaker 2: we're just going to throw it, give our receivers a
- 15:42Speaker 2: chance to make plays. It looks as though the only...
- 15:46Speaker 2: player that has a chance to make a play as
- 15:49Speaker 2: jordan and he's not having enough time either play call
- 15:54Speaker 2: wise protection wise he doesn't have enough time to orchestrate
- 15:59Speaker 2: that plan.
- 16:00Speaker 6: So when your offense is struggling and you've been an
- 16:04Speaker 6: analyst prior to you know before when your offense is
- 16:07Speaker 6: struggling kind of what what What do coaches say to
- 16:11Speaker 6: the special teams? What do coaches say to the defense?
- 16:14Speaker 6: Are we saying to the defense now, hey, you got
- 16:16Speaker 6: to be more opportunistic? You need to get some turnovers?
- 16:20Speaker 6: Are we saying special teams, you got to make sure
- 16:21Speaker 6: you are operating on all cylinders? Kind of does the
- 16:24Speaker 6: onus fall on the other two sides of the ball,
- 16:27Speaker 6: if you will, to sort of make up for.
- 16:29Speaker 1: The lack of offense?
- 16:32Speaker 2: I've always, I'm selfish in this way. If we're struggling offensively,
- 16:38Speaker 2: in a league that every rule is set up for
- 16:41Speaker 2: offenses to be successful. Every protection is where you can't
- 16:45Speaker 2: hit me in the face or you can't get near
- 16:48Speaker 2: my quarterback. If a team struggles offensively, I'm putting it
- 16:53Speaker 2: on us. And I'm saying, Hey, maybe we should quicken
- 16:58Speaker 2: this thing up. Coach use me to get it out
- 17:03Speaker 2: of his hands. You know, you know, let, let me,
- 17:07Speaker 2: I'm built to take this, you know, take these hits.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I mean, because if I go down, you got six
- 17:15Speaker 2: other guys that can replace me.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So let me ask you this.
- 17:18Speaker 2: You don't know who the backup quarterback is in Greenback.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Do you want Jordan getting beat up the way he's
- 17:22Speaker 2: getting beat up?
- 17:23Speaker 4: No, no.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Because that body is going to break down the way
- 17:26Speaker 2: he's getting it. That body is going to break down.
- 17:29Speaker 6: So to that point, have you ever just throughout your career,
- 17:32Speaker 6: when you were playing in your career, did you ever
- 17:35Speaker 6: bet buttheads with the offensive coordinator? For the reason, again, well,
- 17:40Speaker 6: not because they had bad intent.
- 17:41Speaker 2: No.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Because they just got.
- 17:42Speaker 2: No.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 17:45Speaker 2: No. No.
- 17:46Speaker 4: For me to hear him say that as that much
- 17:50Speaker 4: of a no and knowing him as a friend, that
- 17:54Speaker 4: is hard for.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Me to imagine.
- 17:55Speaker 6: Well, I guess what I'm asking is that sometimes offensive coordinators.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Hollis, I think I'm on the same page with you.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I want to show you. as a player, I never
- 18:06Speaker 2: had a conversation with any of our quarterbacks during the game,
- 18:12Speaker 2: rock adjustments, what I see on defense, what we should
- 18:16Speaker 2: be doing. I never had a conversation with our quarterbacks
- 18:20Speaker 2: during the game about that kind of stuff. Number two,
- 18:24Speaker 2: I've always believed in the chain of command. Mike Holmgren,
- 18:29Speaker 2: had I played longer, spoiled me. Because my head coach,
- 18:33Speaker 2: who also called the plays, would be like, what do
- 18:36Speaker 2: you like?
- 18:37Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I see where you're going.
- 18:40Speaker 2: It seemed like we're getting some pressure, and we may
- 18:43Speaker 2: not be able to run our Thursday game. mid game,
- 18:47Speaker 2: a mid yardage passing game, our 14 yard ends and outs.
- 18:52Speaker 2: And our, you know, we're, we're gonna basically have to
- 18:55Speaker 2: go with a flanker drop and slants and stuff of
- 19:00Speaker 2: that nature. How do you coach? I'm good. I'm good.
- 19:03Speaker 2: You know what? I'll make it because now As a player,
- 19:08Speaker 2: Mike Holmgren gave me ownership of what we did offensively.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So I was a part of what he wanted to
- 19:17Speaker 2: do on the game plan. Now, I never had that
- 19:19Speaker 2: with my college coach. Never had that with my first
- 19:23Speaker 2: coach in the NFL. But Mike Holmgren gave me ownership
- 19:27Speaker 2: as in, hey, what do you like? What are you
- 19:30Speaker 2: seeing out there? How's the huddle? How are guys reacting
- 19:33Speaker 2: or responding to, you know, and I would just be like, hey, coach,
- 19:38Speaker 2: everybody in the huddle is calm or, Hey, look, I
- 19:42Speaker 2: don't know what you see, but if you need to
- 19:46Speaker 2: speed things up, because mostly in everything, athletically, it's pace.
- 19:52Speaker 2: In golf, you walk slow, you talk slow, you want
- 19:56Speaker 2: to slow everything down because your mind speeds everything up. Okay,
- 20:02Speaker 2: in football, if we're playing slow offensively, always felt we
- 20:08Speaker 2: need to change the pace. Let's go. No huddle. Let's let's,
- 20:12Speaker 2: let's jump in a quick two minutes just to kind
- 20:14Speaker 2: of get everybody's juices blowing back into the speed of
- 20:20Speaker 2: the game. You could attest to this. When you go
- 20:25Speaker 2: to the playoffs, The pace of the game is so
- 20:28Speaker 2: fast you can barely breathe. So I can't imagine how
- 20:31Speaker 2: that pace increased in an NFC championship game or in
- 20:35Speaker 2: a Super Bowl. Because I know in my first playoff game,
- 20:38Speaker 2: I was lightheaded almost all day because the pace was
- 20:43Speaker 2: so fast. And there is a finality to you. When
- 20:47Speaker 2: you move on and you lose, you go home. So
- 20:50Speaker 2: I believe in, hey, look, if Jordan Love is our
- 20:53Speaker 2: guy because we don't have Josh Jacobs, I want to see,
- 20:57Speaker 2: as a fan, change the pace. If Jordan Love's the guy,
- 21:02Speaker 2: he can handle a change of pace. If Jordan Love
- 21:04Speaker 2: is our guy, Christian Watson and the other receivers, get ready.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Because if you are as good, or if you're the
- 21:14Speaker 2: player you think you are, now you're getting a chance
- 21:17Speaker 2: to prove it. And I used to always, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 2: I used to always believe that When Tampa was struggling,
- 21:24Speaker 2: going in there, having 10 catches and 100 and however
- 21:27Speaker 2: many yards, that was good. Put up 10 catches against
- 21:30Speaker 2: the Vikings. Put up 10 catches against the Bears. Put
- 21:34Speaker 2: up 10 catches against the Cowboys. Because now you're helping
- 21:39Speaker 2: the offense move. Everybody's doing it on a team, you know,
- 21:43Speaker 2: when you find a team that's struggling. You know, and
- 21:46Speaker 2: Tampa early on was struggling in my career.
- 21:48Speaker 6: So.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I just think that somebody is going to have to
- 21:52Speaker 2: wear the hat. And right now it looks like Jordan
- 21:56Speaker 2: Love is the guy. So if Jordan Love is the guy,
- 21:59Speaker 2: guess what? We're getting ready to go in the backyard.
- 22:02Speaker 2: We're getting ready to take our shirts off. It's going
- 22:04Speaker 2: to be shirts versus the skins. And we're getting ready
- 22:07Speaker 2: to throw this thing around the lot. That's what I
- 22:09Speaker 2: would do as a fan.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'm a little bit curious here.
- 22:12Speaker 7: As players, in some of the circles that I follow
- 22:16Speaker 7: for Wisconsin sports, I've seen some calls for coaching changes.
- 22:20Speaker 7: Does the relationship for you as players with your coaches,
- 22:23Speaker 7: like if you know that that seed is starting to
- 22:25Speaker 7: get a little hot for the coaches and that they
- 22:27Speaker 7: might be on the way out, does that change your
- 22:31Speaker 7: relationship any or does that change the way you respond
- 22:33Speaker 7: to them any?
- 22:35Speaker 2: No. I had a coach fired. I take full responsibility
- 22:42Speaker 2: for that. I do. My first head coach in the
- 22:47Speaker 2: NFL got fired. And now where, where some would say,
- 22:53Speaker 2: you know, you, man, you were an all pro and
- 22:55Speaker 2: you led the league and you did this. I take
- 22:58Speaker 2: responsibility for that. I didn't do enough. Maybe I should
- 23:02Speaker 2: have been more vocal in, in, in talking to him about,
- 23:06Speaker 2: you know, maybe as a player, but that wasn't my MO.
- 23:10Speaker 2: That wasn't how I was. If you talk to me,
- 23:14Speaker 2: I'll talk to you. If you were coach, You know,
- 23:17Speaker 2: I never really tried to exceed my pay grade. So
- 23:22Speaker 2: I'm not going to the offensive coordinator to say we
- 23:24Speaker 2: need to do this. I'm not going to the head
- 23:27Speaker 2: coach saying we need to do this. It was more
- 23:29Speaker 2: of a having a conversation with my position coach or,
- 23:33Speaker 2: like I said, Mike Holmgren, who is the best coach
- 23:37Speaker 2: I've ever had, and no diss to William Hall or
- 23:40Speaker 2: Buddy McCall or Joe Morrison. Mike Holmgren talked to me. Yes.
- 23:47Speaker 2: And gave me ownership of what we were doing on offense.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And I really and truly enjoyed that because now I
- 23:54Speaker 2: felt like I was not only a part of the process,
- 23:58Speaker 2: but a vested interest in how, because, you know, it's
- 24:02Speaker 2: easy with 11 guys. It's easy for you to go
- 24:04Speaker 2: coach the quarterback, you know, so I'm not going to go.
- 24:08Speaker 2: And I always laugh and I listen and sometimes cringe
- 24:12Speaker 2: when I hear my other receiver counterparts talk about, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 2: Keyshawn Johnson wrote a book that says throw him the
- 24:19Speaker 2: damn ball. I never, no quarterback can ever tell you
- 24:26Speaker 2: that I went up to them during a game and
- 24:29Speaker 2: said anything about what was going on on that field.
- 24:33Speaker 2: If there's one thing I took pride in, it was
- 24:37Speaker 2: I'm going to do my job better than anyone else
- 24:39Speaker 2: does anything else. But I'm not adding to what that
- 24:43Speaker 2: guy is already going through. He's got a quarterback coach.
- 24:46Speaker 2: He's got an OC. And he's got a head coach
- 24:49Speaker 2: talking to him. He's got the center. You know, who
- 24:52Speaker 2: are we labeling as this guy or that guy? So
- 24:55Speaker 2: he had enough guys talking to him that guess what?
- 24:59Speaker 2: He really didn't need me to add my voice.
- 25:04Speaker 4: And you know that what's interesting about hearing you say
- 25:07Speaker 4: that and the question as a whole, I can remember.
- 25:12Speaker 1: When Pete Carroll.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Was our DB coach, and like you said, as soon
- 25:18Speaker 4: as he started talking, I was like, oh, okay, this
- 25:21Speaker 4: guy is going to really help me out.
- 25:23Speaker 1: You know, I'm going to learn this and this and that.
- 25:27Speaker 4: And once you learn it and once you're doing it,
- 25:31Speaker 4: and let's say it's not working, it ain't Pete Carroll's fault.
- 25:36Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? I can go over and say, well, Coach,
- 25:39Speaker 4: what am I doing wrong? Well, you basically are getting beat.
- 25:43Speaker 4: You know the steps. You know the punch. You should
- 25:45Speaker 4: be running with them. You should be against them. All
- 25:48Speaker 4: the other things that the end result of it, if
- 25:51Speaker 4: you do everything right, you should be good. If you don't,
- 25:56Speaker 4: then Sterling's going to catch it.
- 25:58Speaker 1: You know, he's going to be in the end zone.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Yes, yes. I want to circle back to the conversation
- 26:04Speaker 2: about uh, Matt Lafleur, the head coach should be, I've
- 26:12Speaker 2: always felt this way as a fan, you know, cause I'm, I'm,
- 26:16Speaker 2: I'm hearing the rumblings here at the university of South
- 26:19Speaker 2: Carolina with my head coach, Shane Beamer. Now that all
- 26:22Speaker 2: being was got to go, I'm going to say this.
- 26:25Speaker 2: And I say this all the time. If you fire
- 26:29Speaker 2: Matt Lafleur, are you dying to hire? You know, because
- 26:35Speaker 2: as a fan, it's easy for us to make that change.
- 26:40Speaker 2: And look at the system that Matt LaFleur runs on
- 26:44Speaker 2: offense is a version of the West Coast that I
- 26:47Speaker 2: was in my last few years in the league. So
- 26:50Speaker 2: I know the system is good. What they may have
- 26:53Speaker 2: to do is, like I said, they may have to
- 26:56Speaker 2: shorten the game plan, not in the number of plays.
- 27:01Speaker 2: but shorten the game plan in. We got to get
- 27:04Speaker 2: in a rhythm. We want to play fast. We want
- 27:07Speaker 2: to play quick, you know, as opposed to here is
- 27:10Speaker 2: a play action pass and a five-step drop and a hitch.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I don't know if we got that kind of offensive
- 27:17Speaker 2: line to do that right now. So I don't want
- 27:21Speaker 2: Matt LaFleur fired only because Based on what I know
- 27:25Speaker 2: now about the NFL, I don't know who I'm dying
- 27:28Speaker 2: to hire to come in and be like, yeah, we
- 27:31Speaker 2: feel like we got a really good team and a
- 27:33Speaker 2: really good roster. And now we want them to learn
- 27:36Speaker 2: a totally new offense, a totally new defense and totally
- 27:40Speaker 2: new special teams lingo and system. Because now let's reverse
- 27:47Speaker 2: that back to three years before this person gets his
- 27:51Speaker 2: personnel or gets his system to where everybody is seen
- 27:55Speaker 2: to be on the same page. I think Matt LaFleur
- 27:58Speaker 2: is a very sharp guy. I think Matt and his
- 28:01Speaker 2: staff are working overtime to try and come up with
- 28:05Speaker 2: a game plan that is going to help the talent
- 28:09Speaker 2: that they have be successful. Now, as a player, I
- 28:13Speaker 2: do not want you to do more. don't do more
- 28:19Speaker 2: just just do your job yeah don't do more because
- 28:23Speaker 2: when you do more what you forget is you forget
- 28:27Speaker 2: to do your job that's because i'm looking at carl
- 28:30Speaker 2: and i'm like i can help i need to help
- 28:32Speaker 2: carl out and while i'm helping him out my production
- 28:36Speaker 2: flat so i just think that the players and you
- 28:39Speaker 2: know it's week four you know it's long season We
- 28:45Speaker 2: just need to figure out a way as a team,
- 28:48Speaker 2: and I'm leaving that to the coaching staff to come
- 28:51Speaker 2: up with. We just need to figure out a way
- 28:53Speaker 2: to change the speed in which we play.
- 28:56Speaker 1: And to that term, do your job.
- 29:01Speaker 4: The crazy thing to me is I think that there
- 29:05Speaker 4: is a host of players who just don't understand exactly
- 29:09Speaker 4: what that means. Because I know when we started playing
- 29:14Speaker 4: bump and run, you took everything, not you personally, but
- 29:19Speaker 4: you took everything else in the game away from me.
- 29:23Speaker 4: I don't have time to worry about whether it's a
- 29:26Speaker 4: play fake or whatever. I'm standing in front of you,
- 29:29Speaker 4: and my job is to cover you wherever you go.
- 29:33Speaker 1: And so to me, like do your job.
- 29:36Speaker 4: I think that's the, I still think that's a very
- 29:40Speaker 4: difficult thing for players to understand because I think they
- 29:44Speaker 4: think if they do more, maybe I'm going to get some,
- 29:48Speaker 4: some more notoriety and, and be more popular, maybe get
- 29:52Speaker 4: some NIL money or whatever the case may be. But,
- 29:58Speaker 4: I can't play safety and corner.
- 30:04Speaker 2: That's right.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And I can't cover you and whoever's on the other side.
- 30:10Speaker 4: My job is you and to do this with you
- 30:14Speaker 4: and try to keep you in this place.
- 30:16Speaker 5: You think players overextend themselves at times.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I think that they think to get great, they need
- 30:21Speaker 1: to do more.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Okay. You know, and I'm going to say from an
- 30:26Speaker 2: offensive standpoint, You know, cliche as it is, when you
- 30:33Speaker 2: go back to the basics, it's a five-step, you know,
- 30:38Speaker 2: it's a five-step whatever the case may be, in route
- 30:44Speaker 2: or out route, or it's a seven-step comeback. You know,
- 30:49Speaker 2: you've got to get back basically to dumb it down
- 30:54Speaker 2: for myself. Like I said, I think, you know, for me,
- 30:58Speaker 2: he tried to suck the energy out of me before
- 31:02Speaker 2: the game. I don't want to have any emotion. I
- 31:05Speaker 2: don't need to be jacked up to play a game
- 31:08Speaker 2: and do a job that I have wanted to do
- 31:12Speaker 2: my entire life. So what I need to do is
- 31:14Speaker 2: make sure that I'm not helter-skelter out there. But what
- 31:19Speaker 2: I'm doing is I have– let me go back, okay? Hitch,
- 31:23Speaker 2: I'm taking a big– That explosion step and then too
- 31:26Speaker 2: quick so I can present myself for my quarterback as
- 31:30Speaker 2: quickly as possible so he can give me the best
- 31:34Speaker 2: throw he can give me. And so I don't need
- 31:37Speaker 2: to do more. You know, if I'm going to do more,
- 31:40Speaker 2: it's after I got the ball in my hands. But
- 31:43Speaker 2: I can't do more if I haven't studied. what Carl's
- 31:46Speaker 2: approach is on coming up in zone coverage to make
- 31:49Speaker 2: the tackle. Now, I know he's going to be a
- 31:51Speaker 2: little bit outside because he knows he's got to turn
- 31:55Speaker 2: me back inside because when I catch it on Carl,
- 31:59Speaker 2: it's already going to be a 30-yard completion. But if
- 32:01Speaker 2: he lets me get outside, I'm going to make it
- 32:04Speaker 2: six yards.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Feel the burn, Carl. Feel the burn.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So when I say don't do more, sometimes as skilled players,
- 32:13Speaker 2: we have to just go back to three-step drop, big
- 32:19Speaker 2: explosion step, get in my stance, no wasted motion. I
- 32:23Speaker 2: just want to be where I'm supposed to be as
- 32:26Speaker 2: quickly as I can to present myself for the best
- 32:31Speaker 2: possible throw that my quarterback can give me. I mean,
- 32:34Speaker 2: because Jordan's making some throws that he and his receivers
- 32:38Speaker 2: are fingertips away. And me personally, I'm like, that's on
- 32:43Speaker 2: the receiver. You know, that's not an overthrow. That's on
- 32:47Speaker 2: the receiver because if you get in a little better stance,
- 32:50Speaker 2: get a little better explosion off the line, you're probably
- 32:54Speaker 2: going to be that half a step quicker so you
- 32:56Speaker 2: can make that play.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Well, let me ask you this, Starling, since we're talking
- 33:00Speaker 5: about the Packers who are at the bottom of of
- 33:03Speaker 5: the NFC North at 1-2. We need to talk a
- 33:05Speaker 5: little bit about Carl's Vikings, who sit at the top
- 33:09Speaker 5: of NFC North undefeated.
- 33:11Speaker 1: This is unusual. Well, I thought we.
- 33:13Speaker 5: Would switch gears for a minute, give Carl his limelight,
- 33:15Speaker 5: because I know he enjoys torturing me about this, Sterling.
- 33:18Speaker 5: But what do you see the difference? I don't know
- 33:21Speaker 5: if you follow the Vikings games much. I do when
- 33:24Speaker 5: they play the Packers. But what do you see happening
- 33:26Speaker 5: with the Vikings this year to have such a strong
- 33:29Speaker 5: start compared to last season?
- 33:31Speaker 2: They got great balance between offense and defense. That's one.
- 33:36Speaker 2: So if they get close on the fourth down, they
- 33:41Speaker 2: are cautiously aggressive. Hey, coach. Hey, we're on our 50.
- 33:46Speaker 2: If I go for it and don't get it, defensive coaches,
- 33:49Speaker 2: can you hold them to a field goal?
- 33:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I like the way that they use their weapons. I
- 33:57Speaker 2: like the fact that they got a big gun, and
- 34:00Speaker 2: Justin Jefferson is a big gun, but they fit the
- 34:06Speaker 2: background singers in beautifully. And that was kind of the
- 34:11Speaker 2: comparison I was making with Green Bay. I mean, a
- 34:15Speaker 2: tight end was a monster last year. Where's he? You know,
- 34:19Speaker 2: are we not putting him... And I don't want to
- 34:23Speaker 2: say it, but I'm going to say it. I know
- 34:24Speaker 2: he's got new money, but We ain't getting the same
- 34:28Speaker 2: production that we got when you were poor. I need
- 34:30Speaker 2: you to go back to being that poor guy.
- 34:34Speaker 1: And let me just say this. Is that the coach?
- 34:39Speaker 4: Do you think that's the coach's situation or the player's situation?
- 34:42Speaker 4: Because if you pay me more money, man, I'm still
- 34:45Speaker 4: trying to get out there and be– I want to
- 34:48Speaker 4: be great still.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 34:51Speaker 4: Anybody who's playing, and let's just say a true starter
- 34:54Speaker 4: and a legitimate player– The money's great, but you want
- 34:59Speaker 4: to be name-worthy while you're.
- 35:02Speaker 2: In the league. It needs my peers. Yes. It needs
- 35:04Speaker 2: my peers to say, bro, you ain't in the Hall
- 35:07Speaker 2: of Fame, but we know. We already know you should
- 35:09Speaker 2: be there. Yeah. You ain't in. And I used to
- 35:15Speaker 2: say this all the time. I don't care what anybody
- 35:19Speaker 2: else thinks except the guys I play against. The guys
- 35:24Speaker 2: I play against, guess what? They're studying me. So for
- 35:28Speaker 2: them to say, oh, bro, you the truth, or you
- 35:30Speaker 2: for real, or bro, you headed in the right direction. Now,
- 35:35Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying? Now I'm doing some things.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I just feel like in comparison with what Minnesota is doing,
- 35:45Speaker 2: we came in, this was our quarterback, he got hurt.
- 35:49Speaker 2: So now we've got to go to another quarterback, and
- 35:51Speaker 2: guess what? It seems like they haven't missed a beat,
- 35:55Speaker 2: and I think it's because they have great balance between
- 35:58Speaker 2: offense and defense, but I think their offensive play calling
- 36:03Speaker 2: is tremendous based on Justin Jefferson being Michael and the
- 36:08Speaker 2: other guys being the Jackson 5. They're doing a great
- 36:10Speaker 2: job of balancing those guys with what they do in
- 36:14Speaker 2: their running game.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Well, I'll say this, too.
- 36:22Speaker 4: In the game of football today, running the football is
- 36:27Speaker 4: actually an amazing feat, I think, now. Where back in
- 36:32Speaker 4: the day, you were running it, and if you could
- 36:35Speaker 4: throw the deep balls, if you threw two or three
- 36:37Speaker 4: deep balls in the game for a touchdown, that was major.
- 36:42Speaker 4: How does that make the quarterback? What does that put
- 36:45Speaker 4: the quarterback today?
- 36:46Speaker 1: Do you.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Do you have to be able to throw those touchdowns,
- 36:50Speaker 4: or can you turn and hand the ball off and
- 36:52Speaker 4: still be recognized as a solid quarterback?
- 36:56Speaker 2: You know, the NFL does a great job of fooling
- 36:59Speaker 2: people year in and year out because who is the
- 37:03Speaker 2: highest paid guy on the field? Usually it's a quarterback.
- 37:06Speaker 2: But we want to do everything we can for him
- 37:09Speaker 2: not to show you he's the highest paid guy on
- 37:11Speaker 2: the field. We're going to run it 700 times. We're
- 37:14Speaker 2: going to dink it and dunk it and do all this. And, hey, look, man,
- 37:20Speaker 2: I'm not in the room anymore. You know, I'm not
- 37:22Speaker 2: on the phone talking to people the way I was
- 37:25Speaker 2: when I was doing TV, so I have to be prepared.
- 37:29Speaker 2: But as a fan, I always was like, when I
- 37:34Speaker 2: watch your first two or three series, I should know
- 37:38Speaker 2: what your game plan is. I should know that you
- 37:41Speaker 2: came in, hey, they got a really good defense, but
- 37:45Speaker 2: number 39, their left corner, we get him. So we
- 37:49Speaker 2: got everything that we're doing at number 39. So Sterling,
- 37:53Speaker 2: we're going to start with you on him. And then
- 37:56Speaker 2: we're going to send Robert Brooks. And then we're going
- 38:00Speaker 2: to send Mark Clayton. Because that's what we see on film.
- 38:06Speaker 2: When I watch my Green Bay.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Am I the only name that you know that played corner?
- 38:12Speaker 1: I know you know the other corner's name. I'm just trying.
- 38:14Speaker 2: To get our fans to be on the same page, bro.
- 38:17Speaker 2: It ain't personal. Just so you know, I am taking
- 38:19Speaker 2: it personal.
- 38:20Speaker 7: Okay.
- 38:28Speaker 2: I'm just trying to get our fans to understand, you know,
- 38:31Speaker 2: because we're using, you know, we're using our voices and
- 38:34Speaker 2: we're not using pictures. I look at teams. I look
- 38:40Speaker 2: at my South Carolina game cops. I I'm looking at
- 38:43Speaker 2: my green Bay Packers and I'm saying to myself, who
- 38:47Speaker 2: did you want to attack? Based on what your protection
- 38:52Speaker 2: capabilities are, based on what your lack of a running
- 38:57Speaker 2: or true running back is, what was your game plan?
- 39:02Speaker 2: I know what happens when the score is 21-3. I
- 39:07Speaker 2: know now you're trying to... But if I know you're throwing,
- 39:11Speaker 2: don't they know you're throwing? Yeah, good point.
- 39:13Speaker 1: I don't see.
- 39:18Speaker 2: From my Green Bay Packers in this system, I don't
- 39:21Speaker 2: see a lot of short passes and long run. I
- 39:25Speaker 2: would like to see more of that because if you
- 39:30Speaker 2: catch it at nine and fall down, I'm in second
- 39:32Speaker 2: and one. And I can do a whole lot from
- 39:35Speaker 2: second and one. I got three downs to get one yard.
- 39:38Speaker 2: And so, but I think that is the pacing that
- 39:43Speaker 2: is missing because they run it for no gain. They
- 39:48Speaker 2: come back. They they try and throw a screen or,
- 39:51Speaker 2: you know, it's a game of three. And now we're
- 39:54Speaker 2: in third and seven. And, you know, there's no more.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I'm going to throw you a hitch and you get
- 39:59Speaker 2: me to eight yards that I need.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Everybody now is running past the sticks. And then what
- 40:04Speaker 2: happens is, is now I'm sitting here going, wait a minute, wait,
- 40:09Speaker 2: wait a minute. Let's throw it forward down so here
- 40:13Speaker 2: comes the, you know, and then I would like to,
- 40:16Speaker 2: and that's part of my pacing. That's part of my
- 40:20Speaker 2: speed of the game. That's part of, I think my
- 40:23Speaker 2: Green Bay Packers need to play faster. And in playing faster,
- 40:28Speaker 2: it could be throw a hitch. Could be throw a slam,
- 40:32Speaker 2: you know. Small steps. Your quarterback is your big gun.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Your quarterback is your main guy. Your quarterback is your
- 40:40Speaker 2: big dog. Well, now it's time for him to prove it.
- 40:44Speaker 2: And it's time for you to help him prove it. Because,
- 40:48Speaker 2: you know, I played in Lambeau Field. There wasn't a
- 40:52Speaker 2: whole lot of people coming there to see me. They
- 40:54Speaker 2: came to see Don McCaskill. They came to see Brett Favre.
- 40:58Speaker 2: You know, they want to see the throws and, you know, oh,
- 41:01Speaker 2: my God, Brett threw it through a brick wall. They
- 41:03Speaker 2: want to see that. Well, I believe in Jordan Love.
- 41:07Speaker 2: He's a really good guy. I've enjoyed getting to know
- 41:10Speaker 2: him over the years. And I would personally, as a fan,
- 41:16Speaker 2: put the onus on him in helping us get out
- 41:20Speaker 2: of this funk offensively.
- 41:21Speaker 5: So so there has been a lot of talk on
- 41:23Speaker 5: on sports, you know, different outlets, Sterling, about the booze
- 41:27Speaker 5: raining down at Lambeau Field. You know, a lot of people,
- 41:32Speaker 5: a lot of comments that I've read, they're saying that
- 41:34Speaker 5: it's not personally toward the team, but it's more toward
- 41:37Speaker 5: the fact that there's no direction with this team, that
- 41:40Speaker 5: they're losing hope with, you know, the way that they're playing.
- 41:44Speaker 5: Were you ever booed at– I hope that that's not
- 41:47Speaker 5: a thing that you had to endure.
- 41:48Speaker 2: What? Wait, what? Wait, what? Yeah.
- 41:53Speaker 5: Did you ever have a bad year and the team
- 41:54Speaker 5: was booed is what I'm asking.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Not you in particular.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Oh, you're talking about the team? Because I'm sure we
- 42:00Speaker 2: were booed. We were booed when I got there. And
- 42:04Speaker 2: I definitely was booed. But here's the thing about boos.
- 42:10Speaker 2: And this is my own personal take. if you pay
- 42:15Speaker 2: your hard earned money, your only participation in this game
- 42:20Speaker 2: is your voice. You can cheer extremely loudly when they
- 42:23Speaker 2: have the ball and you can, you know, be quiet
- 42:28Speaker 2: when we have the ball. But if you don't like
- 42:31Speaker 2: what you're seeing, let them have it because, and I
- 42:37Speaker 2: don't believe in deserve that. I've always had what I needed.
- 42:42Speaker 2: I didn't always get what I want, but I never
- 42:45Speaker 2: got what I deserve. So I don't say deserve. But
- 42:48Speaker 2: if you pay your hard-earned money, the only participation you
- 42:52Speaker 2: have is your voice. And I've always felt like booze,
- 42:58Speaker 2: are just letting you know what you're not doing. Okay?
- 43:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Nobody booed the championship performance.
- 43:05Speaker 1: There you go.
- 43:06Speaker 2: You know, Whitney Houston singing the national anthem at the
- 43:09Speaker 2: Super Bowl back in Tampa. Nobody booed that performance.
- 43:12Speaker 1: I know.
- 43:13Speaker 2: That was pretty good.
- 43:15Speaker 1: And to that, go ahead, go ahead, finish.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I think the fans, I think the fans should voice
- 43:21Speaker 2: their displeasure. You said something else, Lisa, that when you
- 43:26Speaker 2: say no hope, now, That is coaching. Okay, so when
- 43:35Speaker 2: the fans, enough of them, feel that this team has
- 43:41Speaker 2: no hope, now I think you have to make a
- 43:45Speaker 2: coaching change. I think now, and I'm not saying Matt
- 43:50Speaker 2: LaFleur should or needs to be replaced. I don't. But
- 43:55Speaker 2: if we feel there is no hope, And I played
- 44:00Speaker 2: in Lambeau field when there was no hope. I was
- 44:04Speaker 2: on some teams in green Bay that had no hope.
- 44:09Speaker 2: And let me tell you, it is really, you have
- 44:15Speaker 2: to just, I was playing in the NFL, so I
- 44:17Speaker 2: was extremely happy and I had to curtail my happiness
- 44:22Speaker 2: of playing in the NFL because we as a team
- 44:25Speaker 2: were so bad. Um, When Mike Holmgren came, Mike changed
- 44:34Speaker 2: the player's hope because he brought a system that each
- 44:38Speaker 2: and every player could see someone in San Francisco, the
- 44:43Speaker 2: success that that player had, whether it was a tackle
- 44:46Speaker 2: or guard, a center, the third down receiver, the third
- 44:51Speaker 2: down back, there was success that you could see. So
- 44:56Speaker 2: the players, hope change when you change that now you
- 45:04Speaker 2: changed a tremendous amount about going out and performing at
- 45:10Speaker 2: a level that we're going in the right direction we're
- 45:14Speaker 2: nine and seven nine and seven nine and seven eleven
- 45:18Speaker 2: and five uh whatever it was we're in the super
- 45:21Speaker 2: bowl yeah so I don't mind fans showing their interest
- 45:27Speaker 2: in booing. They're just pleasure in booing. But when you
- 45:31Speaker 2: start talking about no hope, that's front office and coaching,
- 45:38Speaker 2: and there has to be a change when there's no hope.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And I'll say this to that conversation.
- 45:47Speaker 4: I don't think, and again, anytime I'm giving anything positive,
- 45:53Speaker 4: to this dude that I'm talking to now.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I got to be careful. Take that personally. I got
- 45:58Speaker 1: to be careful. Sterling, take it personal.
- 45:59Speaker 4: There could have never been a legitimate game play that Sterl,
- 46:13Speaker 4: to me, could have ever been booed. Let's just assume
- 46:17Speaker 4: we had him shut out in a game. And He
- 46:21Speaker 4: was the man for their team. And we're in Green Bay.
- 46:28Speaker 4: They're not going to boo him because they already know,
- 46:33Speaker 4: seen his efforts to play the game. And they know
- 46:38Speaker 4: that if there's a problem, it's somewhere else, whether it's
- 46:42Speaker 4: the line, whether it's the quarterback.
- 46:44Speaker 1: And again, for people who do boo players....
- 46:50Speaker 4: Especially at the professional level, what you have to understand
- 46:54Speaker 4: is that particular guy.
- 46:57Speaker 1: You're booing him because he's playing.
- 46:59Speaker 4: And you're booing him because he's made the team, made plays,
- 47:02Speaker 4: has become a starter. You are booing one of the
- 47:05Speaker 4: best athletes at that position to have played the game
- 47:10Speaker 4: or had played in that modern era.
- 47:14Speaker 1: How is that possible? You know what I'm saying? But
- 47:16Speaker 1: I don't think that they think that.
- 47:20Speaker 2: In 1994, I held out in a contract dispute. So
- 47:27Speaker 2: I didn't hold out like the fools do now. I'm
- 47:29Speaker 2: going to hold out a training camp. It was like
- 47:32Speaker 2: I had two things in my favor. One, Mike Holmgren
- 47:37Speaker 2: had never beat Denny Green. And the game plan week one,
- 47:44Speaker 2: Minnesota came to Green Bay. The game plan week one
- 47:47Speaker 2: was me. And so I knew didn't make any sense
- 47:56Speaker 2: for me to hold out in training camp because I'd
- 47:58Speaker 2: had surgery the year before. And I was on the
- 48:01Speaker 2: PUP list until like a week and a half before
- 48:03Speaker 2: the season started. Waited until the Friday before the Sunday
- 48:09Speaker 2: game against Minnesota. So when that hit, it was like
- 48:15Speaker 2: a sledgehammer crushing an egg. So the Green Bay fans
- 48:22Speaker 2: were upset at me because no one knew if I
- 48:26Speaker 2: was going to play or not. And so we got
- 48:33Speaker 2: it worked out the night before, the Saturday night before
- 48:37Speaker 2: the game. So I got to the stadium. No one
- 48:40Speaker 2: knew if I was going to play. So when I
- 48:44Speaker 2: came out for warm-up, they let me have it. And yes,
- 48:48Speaker 2: I heard it. But I'm a professional athlete. And if
- 48:52Speaker 2: you can get in my mind that easy, I should
- 48:54Speaker 2: not be at the level that I'm at. They scored
- 48:58Speaker 2: the first touchdown of the game. And they booed me.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Because they were angry at what I did Friday and Saturday.
- 49:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Understood that. And they were letting me know their displeasure
- 49:13Speaker 2: in what I did. Now, the fact that we're up seven,
- 49:15Speaker 2: nothing at that moment didn't matter. We are angry. angry
- 49:20Speaker 2: at you for having us on pins and needles thinking
- 49:25Speaker 2: you weren't on play.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Oh my goodness.
- 49:28Speaker 2: So I did it. I'm a player like this. You
- 49:34Speaker 2: want to talk about my mom, go right ahead. God
- 49:36Speaker 2: knows I've done it. Okay, you want to talk about
- 49:39Speaker 2: my family, go right ahead. God knows I've said some
- 49:43Speaker 2: things about my family that, yes, I will not repeat
- 49:46Speaker 2: down at parties. Because that is your own connection, and
- 49:51Speaker 2: you're paying your hard-earned money. That's your only connection to
- 49:56Speaker 2: the game. So if you need to boo, let it out.
- 50:01Speaker 2: I'd say you'll feel a lot better if you let
- 50:04Speaker 2: it out than you do if you keep it in you.
- 50:06Speaker 1: This is so true. And what's interesting to that is
- 50:10Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 50:12Speaker 4: I don't think I've ever really gotten booed, at least
- 50:16Speaker 4: in the pros.
- 50:16Speaker 1: I was just trying to ask if you've ever been booed.
- 50:18Speaker 1: I don't think I've been booed.
- 50:20Speaker 2: I booed you several times. When they introduced you, bro,
- 50:25Speaker 2: I booed you several times.
- 50:27Speaker 1: I knew it.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I knew it. I wasn't going to say anything, but
- 50:29Speaker 2: I'm going to let you. Friendship is so strong right now,
- 50:33Speaker 2: I'm going to let you in on that. I've moved
- 50:35Speaker 2: you several times, okay?
- 50:38Speaker 4: What I wasn't expecting was that, okay? But anyway, you know,
- 50:45Speaker 4: and I don't really understand, like, what could, what, you know.
- 50:51Speaker 4: So if Sterling beat me, if Jerry Rice beat me,
- 50:53Speaker 4: if Andre Rison beat me, if Andre Reid.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Beat me, like, Really? Can you come out here and
- 50:59Speaker 1: show me how to do it? Like, I don't really even.
- 51:02Speaker 4: Understand, like, how you boo a professional or college athlete.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Because you.
- 51:10Speaker 2: But that's part of it.
- 51:12Speaker 4: Yeah, that's part of your pay. That's part of you
- 51:14Speaker 4: buying your ticket or season ticket.
- 51:18Speaker 2: I don't know how to cover Jerry Rice. Right. I
- 51:21Speaker 2: don't know how to cover, but... I'm paying my money
- 51:24Speaker 2: so you can do it. And you ain't doing your job. So, yeah.
- 51:30Speaker 2: So that's justification to boot.
- 51:33Speaker 5: In reality, you think about how much money these people
- 51:36Speaker 5: spend to go to a game if they take family members.
- 51:39Speaker 1: I'm not charging them.
- 51:41Speaker 5: The reality of to walk through the gate and concessions.
- 51:45Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's right.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 51:47Speaker 2: You're going to pay that $ 249 for that 39 jersey, Brian?
- 51:49Speaker 2: You're going to let Sterling run up and down the field?
- 51:52Speaker 2: That's what we're doing? I got this. I got this.
- 51:57Speaker 2: I need some relief. I need some relief on this, though.
- 52:02Speaker 1: That jersey need to be a little cheaper, huh?
- 52:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, hey. And you know what? If I
- 52:08Speaker 2: had one or two drinks in me, I'll say it.
- 52:12Speaker 2: I can do better than that. I'm sitting up here
- 52:16Speaker 2: in these stands going, you know what? After these two
- 52:20Speaker 2: mil of life, I feel like I can do a
- 52:22Speaker 2: better job than Carl, dude.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Put me in, coach. Put me in. Yeah, I mean,
- 52:25Speaker 1: how much we paying him?
- 52:26Speaker 7: $ 3.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Million? Oh, they can.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Pay me $ 500, 000.
- 52:36Speaker 2: I thought I'd do better than that. But that's what
- 52:43Speaker 2: I love about fans is I'm like, no, you don't
- 52:49Speaker 2: understand that that guy on the other side, he didn't pay, too. Yeah, exactly.
- 52:55Speaker 2: You know, that guy... And I say to guys, you know,
- 52:58Speaker 2: because they go, oh, man, such and such. Man, he sucks.
- 53:02Speaker 2: I go... He's sucking in the NFL. I don't know
- 53:07Speaker 2: what that means, but that guy, you saying he sucks,
- 53:10Speaker 2: he's in the NFL.
- 53:14Speaker 1: And playing.
- 53:14Speaker 2: You know how many people he beat out for that job?
- 53:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:19Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, his resume is pretty good if he's
- 53:23Speaker 2: in the NFL. Because this is the best football league
- 53:26Speaker 2: in the world. Okay? In the world. And so for
- 53:29Speaker 2: you to say... He's not very good. Why you think
- 53:34Speaker 2: you're talking about him, you're showing your own stupidity because
- 53:39Speaker 2: the guy you're talking about, you're sitting here watching him,
- 53:42Speaker 2: and that guy's in the NFL.
- 53:45Speaker 4: And when you think about the quarterbacks who get a
- 53:48Speaker 4: lot of that, they're probably making more money than anybody
- 53:55Speaker 4: in the league, anybody else in the league, more than
- 53:58Speaker 4: probably you watching the game. And how do you even
- 54:04Speaker 4: think that they're not any good?
- 54:06Speaker 1: Like, how are.
- 54:08Speaker 4: They not supposed to throw an interception? How are they
- 54:10Speaker 4: not supposed to fumble the ball? Like, that's part of
- 54:14Speaker 4: the game.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Receiver drops a– so you go, you got to catch that. Yeah.
- 54:19Speaker 2: I'm like, so you thought he was– he heard the
- 54:21Speaker 2: play and he was like, oh– This is probably going
- 54:24Speaker 2: to come to me, but I ain't catching that. I
- 54:27Speaker 2: want us to be in third and fourth.
- 54:30Speaker 4: All right.
- 54:30Speaker 5: I'm going to ask both of you a question before
- 54:32Speaker 5: we have to. I know we're getting close to time
- 54:34Speaker 5: being over. We're watching ESPN here, Sterling. And, you know,
- 54:37Speaker 5: the Bears are facing the Eagles, and the Eagles are
- 54:41Speaker 5: at Bears Stadium. Who do you feel like is going
- 54:43Speaker 5: to win that game tonight? It's a division game for Vikings.
- 54:48Speaker 2: Philly. Philly plays a brand of football. That is boring
- 54:52Speaker 2: but effective.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Okay.
- 54:55Speaker 2: They do enough. They don't wow you with anything that
- 54:59Speaker 2: they do. You know, Saquon Barkley is not jumping over
- 55:03Speaker 2: people every play, but they are extremely effective in what
- 55:06Speaker 2: they do. And their confidence is going to be higher
- 55:11Speaker 2: because they're not facing Chicago's quarterback. So on paper, which
- 55:17Speaker 2: is why we're playing the game tonight, I would say
- 55:20Speaker 2: the Eagles win that one only because of, I like
- 55:24Speaker 2: how they play offensively and defensively and defensively. Caleb Williams
- 55:30Speaker 2: made a lot– he covered up a lot of eels
- 55:32Speaker 2: for the Bears with his movement and his mobility. And
- 55:36Speaker 2: I just don't know if their backup is– or they
- 55:38Speaker 2: have a game plan that's going to be able to
- 55:40Speaker 2: circumvent his absence.
- 55:43Speaker 1: So your choice is– He's going with the Eagles.
- 55:46Speaker 2: You're going with the Eagles. I'm going with the Phillies.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Because he is. I'm going the other direction.
- 55:53Speaker 5: This is a division opponent. We should both, both of us,
- 55:59Speaker 5: both fan bases, the Packers and the Vikings should be
- 56:03Speaker 5: wanting the Bears to lose. Am I not right, Sterling?
- 56:07Speaker 2: No, they're going to lose.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Get us out of the cellar.
- 56:13Speaker 2: And I said this today on the golf course, I
- 56:17Speaker 2: usually don't bet on games that I don't play, but
- 56:20Speaker 2: I would bet on this. You know, I usually don't
- 56:26Speaker 2: play on games that I'm not playing in, but I
- 56:30Speaker 2: would bet on that, though.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 56:32Speaker 4: Well, bro, I appreciate you taking the call and being
- 56:35Speaker 4: on with us today, and we will for sure be
- 56:38Speaker 4: back with you again.
- 56:40Speaker 1: We love you, Sterling.
- 56:41Speaker 2: I appreciate you guys having me.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Love you.
- 56:43Speaker 2: All right, I'll talk to you. All right.
- 56:45Speaker 4: All right, well, ladies and gentlemen, just so you know.
- 56:52Speaker 4: Anytime that we can get Sterling on, we have to
- 56:56Speaker 4: get him on just because he's just like so open
- 56:59Speaker 4: and honest.
- 57:01Speaker 5: I could listen to him for hours. Like literally this
- 57:04Speaker 5: hour flew by. Just his take on, you know, offenses, defenses,
- 57:09Speaker 5: the game in general. I mean, he's just awesome.
- 57:13Speaker 1: He was really truly a super smart guy.
- 57:17Speaker 4: Player who understood like defenses where you're going to be
- 57:21Speaker 4: and all those kind of things and he just had
- 57:23Speaker 4: fun with it you know because you know something like
- 57:26Speaker 4: he knew everything that was happening he knew what he
- 57:28Speaker 4: had to do he knew what the defense was doing
- 57:30Speaker 4: yeah and he could just go out there and just
- 57:32Speaker 4: have fun and you.
- 57:33Speaker 5: Know what i really love about sterling he played for
- 57:35Speaker 5: the green bay packers.
- 57:38Speaker 1: That's enough to get her fired.
- 57:40Speaker 2: You know.
- 57:42Speaker 7: The other thing, too, is he's got a lot of
- 57:44Speaker 7: things that, I mean, yeah, it applies to the game
- 57:47Speaker 7: of football, obviously. But, I mean, it really applies to
- 57:49Speaker 7: a lot of things in life. The whole concept of
- 57:51Speaker 7: know your role, know your place.
- 57:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Life lessons.
- 57:54Speaker 7: That's a big life lesson that a lot of people need.
- 57:57Speaker 4: And I think he really truly lives by that. You know,
- 58:01Speaker 4: I really do believe that's who he is.
- 58:04Speaker 1: You can't fake that. No, you can't fake that.
- 58:06Speaker 4: And like you said, just in the conversation, how he
- 58:10Speaker 4: relates to it and speaks about it, it is who
- 58:14Speaker 4: he is.
