- 0:48Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's Word with notes, quotes,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and stories along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:03Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:06Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that he has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. In Lamentations
- 1:12Speaker 1: Chapter three, verses twenty two and twenty three, we read,
- 1:16Speaker 1: because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed,
- 1:20Speaker 1: for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Great is your faithfulness. Now, if you miss a portion
- 1:27Speaker 1: of today's broadcast or would like to recommend it to
- 1:29Speaker 1: a friend, you can hear this program anytime online at
- 1:33Speaker 1: Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:39Speaker 2: We read in the Book of Proverbs three verses five
- 1:43Speaker 2: and six. Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
- 1:47Speaker 2: and do not rely on your own understanding. Think about
- 1:51Speaker 2: him and all your ways, and he will guide you
- 1:54Speaker 2: on the right paths. We've been entitled this reflection the
- 2:00Speaker 2: shortest journey. You know, we put our trust in many things.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Some of us trust our investments to financial advisors. We
- 2:09Speaker 2: trust our health to doctors and modern medicine. We trust
- 2:13Speaker 2: safety and travel to well maintained vehicles and machines. We
- 2:18Speaker 2: trust our children are provided the right teaching in school.
- 2:22Speaker 2: We trust life preservers when we might drown, lifeboats when
- 2:27Speaker 2: the ship is sinking. We trust our legislators to enact
- 2:32Speaker 2: laws for our best interest and for our courts to
- 2:35Speaker 2: enforce them. So are we confident that these examples of
- 2:39Speaker 2: trust are tested and true. In America? Our Treasury Department
- 2:45Speaker 2: imprints our money with these words. In God we trust.
- 2:50Speaker 2: So do we truly trust God? In times of economic uncertainty?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Or when our health fails? Do we trust God? It
- 2:59Speaker 2: is easy for us to see that, for the most part,
- 3:03Speaker 2: God is our last resort. The Bible states clearly that
- 3:08Speaker 2: not only are we to trust God, but we are
- 3:11Speaker 2: to do it with our whole heart. This is a
- 3:14Speaker 2: conditional promise. The condition is regardless of the circumstance, God
- 3:20Speaker 2: always is worthy of our trust. The promise is that
- 3:24Speaker 2: He will provide clear direction. We have a problem with
- 3:29Speaker 2: trusting God, and that problem is our intellect. When we
- 3:33Speaker 2: believe that we can do things on our own and
- 3:36Speaker 2: in our own way, our understanding is based on our ability,
- 3:40Speaker 2: not his. That problem exists more with those of us who,
- 3:45Speaker 2: either by experience our education, rely more on what we
- 3:50Speaker 2: have been able to do. We are proud of our accomplishments,
- 3:54Speaker 2: and our wall plaques declare it. Sadly, some even know
- 3:59Speaker 2: so much much about God that they see little need
- 4:02Speaker 2: for knowing him. The intellectual of today and in Jesus'
- 4:06Speaker 2: time considered their works to merit God's favor or certainly
- 4:11Speaker 2: man's favor. It is only when we are faced with
- 4:15Speaker 2: the impossible, the place where we recognize our need for savior,
- 4:20Speaker 2: that we begin to trust God with our whole heart.
- 4:24Speaker 2: We reach the point where our intellect and our own
- 4:28Speaker 2: understanding falls short because we worship other gods. Our sin
- 4:33Speaker 2: of idolatry causes us to see our wretched state, and
- 4:38Speaker 2: we cry out to God for forgiveness. Then the shortest
- 4:44Speaker 2: journey takes that realization, approximately eighteen inches from our head
- 4:51Speaker 2: to our heart.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 4:56Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to

- 5:12Speaker 1: Faithfulness from the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns album unless otherwise.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Express scriptures are read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible,
- 5:22Speaker 1: which is published by Homan Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee.

- 5:38Speaker 1: wrap up today's message.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do
- 5:45Speaker 2: not rely on your own understanding. Think about Him in
- 5:50Speaker 2: all your ways, and He will guide you on the
- 5:54Speaker 2: right paths. That is today's reflection on the world.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
