Please follow me on Instagram @mindyonair and on Facebook @ Mindy Levy. And please subscribe to my new YouTube channel @ Mindy's Minute Podcast. When you get a chance, would love for you to subscribe. Now. Now let's get into the top three things you need to know. The twenty twenty six hurricane season now holds the record for the longest stretch without a hurricane. Thank goodness, yes. Going past September 11th. Experts say that we should thank a Super El Nino and a massive cloud of Saharian dust for stopping potential storms. But they do warn, of course, to be ready with whatever comes the last half of the season, I know. I'm like you. Let's not talk about it. And hopefully it doesn't happen, right? Crossing fingers. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is offering free children admission tickets during the month of September. It's part of their future voyagers program and is for the entire month. Kids ages 3 to 11 can get free one-day admission with the purchase of an adult admission ticket. One of my favorite places at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is the Space Shuttle Atlantis. To go through the entire exhibit and at the end, when they unveil it. Tears to my eyes. You know, I as you could tell, there's here you go this way. As you can tell, I covered a lot of space launches in my 26 years in radio here in Brevard. So it was amazing. to see the shuttle launches. And my other favorite, the rocket garden, because you can get so many great pictures. It's amazing there. Do you love candy corn? I know that's a big debate for everyone. I love candy corn. How about smelling like candy corn? A new perfume is coming out called Ode To Candy Corn is described as a blend of creamy vanilla, spun sugar, and honey, and it goes on sale the first day of fall, which is September 22nd. And each bottle will come with a bag of candy corn. I don't know if I want to smell that sweet, but I do love myself some candy corn. Today is International Country Music Day. Today is National Apple Dumpling Day. Mm. Today is National Pet Bird Day and it's National Monte Cristo Day. So if you love those sandwiches, find your favorite place here in Brevard and head on over there for lunch. And that's the top three things you need to know. Coming up, Sunday dinner. Remember when you were able to go to Sunday dinner and visit family? Do you still do it? We do. Boy, are there stories behind that one. That's coming up next. Sunday dinners. Yes. Remember when you were a kid, everyone had to go to grandma's or you had to go to somebody's house because they're doing a birthday party, they're doing Mother's Day, they're doing Father's Day. Well, we decided to have our Sunday dinner this past Sunday because we didn't get a chance to celebrate my niece's birthday, my nephew's birthday, and my birthday. So we did all three. One birthday was in July, one birthday was in August, and my birthday is September. So we all combined them all, came together on Sunday dinner and talk about a stressful week. Sunday dinner is supposed to be like, Everyone brings something and we all enjoy it together. But my mom starts like on Wednesday and she's what are we bringing? What are we doing? And I'm like, Mom, it's just Wednesday. I I just gotta get through Thursday, please. Okay, we're gonna pick this up. We're gonna pick this up. We're gonna do this. We're gonna do that. We're gonna get the cake. Okay. Sounds great. Then Saturday morning, I get a phone call. Completely changed. This was too expensive. Can't do that. I was like, mom, but just buy everything that's on sale. I'll go with you. Nope, no, no. I already got everything. I'm gonna take it to the house. House, it's done. We're having ribs. My mom loves ribs. So I purpose I purposely think she did it because she wanted ribs. She didn't want anything else. She says it was on sale, but I think she just wants to eat ribs. Ribs! So we had ribs, which were delicious. potato salad and macaroni salad it was like a barbecue. And then had cake, and everyone came and brought some things. But The stress part is starting on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Everything changes on Saturday. Everyone's texting each other what time, what time? I have to be here. We have to do it at this time. I'm coming from Daytona. That's my brother. This this. But then we all made it at noon and we had a wonderful lunch. And by one thirty, everyone packed up their own food. And leftovers. So no one has to cook on Monday night after a Sunday dinner. And then we all went our separate ways. But I love Sunday dinners. I just think the conversation is great. Everyone gets to say something if you can jump in on our family, because I'm not the only one that talks loud. Believe it or not. My sister's mouthy too. She likes to say things and tell stories. So and my mom's always jumping in with her opinion. So it's a great time. If you get a chance to do Sunday dinners again, or if you haven't done it in a long time, bring the family together. It's so stressful. Days coming up to it, but when it gets done, it's the best thing in the world. All right, are you ready for the Morning Mind Bender? Here we go. First, we want to give shout-outs. Last week's winner for the bragging rights here in Brevard County goes to Bridget. Yes. Thank you, Bridget. She got the answer correct. The answer was New Edition. The question was: what 80s R&B boy band had members such as Bobby Brown and all three future members of Bell Biv DeVoe? Of course, we love their songs, Cool It Now, and Mr. Telephone Man. And the answer was New Edition And Bridget, you get the bragging rights. When you get to work today, you be just like, I got the morning mind bender. Good for you. And our question for today for the morning mindbender: which beverage did Roosevelt refer to as good to the last drop? And they did a spin-off of that. Remember the commercials back in the day? Now, if you know me, I don't drink this because this does not need a lot of energy. I wake up like this. Even going to work, someone walks in and everything I'm walking I'm like, Good morning, sunshine. Hi. Hi, Mindy. I'm like, so how was your day last night? What's your night? I just got here. I I I need a moment. I guess I'm just too much. Too much energy, too much sunshine. But yes, I only drink this on Thursday. So if you've ever listened to the radio show, you know that Thursday is my day. 'Cause you know that I go from zero to sixty when I'm on the air. But Thursdays is like my Friday. So I get everything done on Thursday so that I can cruise through a Friday. But this is the drink that I only drink on Thursday. But I do have to admit, no, I wanna I don't wanna give it away. I usually take it with a little bit of sugar and a little bit of cream. Does that help? I hope so. Yeah. Okay. So that is your hint for our morning mind bender question. If you know the answer, you're going to post your answer in the comments on Instagram @mindyonair or on Facebook @mindylevy And the question again for the Morning Mind Bender: which beverage did Roosevelt refer to as good to the last drop? You're probably sipping on it right now. All right, it's time for Mindy's Minute. That's what's next. All the entertainment you need for the week. Nashville International Airport is planning to rename it after Dolly Parton, which makes sense. The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners all voted to move forward with the proposal, which I think is a great idea. Nominations for the CMA Awards are out, and Ella Langley leads with nine nominations, tying Miranda Lambert and Lainey Wilson for the most in one year by a female artist. Her hit song, Choose in Texas, I love that song, is up for single, song, and music video of the year. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift is up for her first nomination in years with her song, I Knew It, I Knew You. that's the song which featured on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack. And the CMAs are going to be on November 18th. And yes, Taylor Swift will be there. That's what she says. Judge Judy is retiring after more than 30 years on television. Her series, Judy Justice, will air its final episode next month. The 83 year old told People She has plenty of other interests. Don't worry about Judge Judy. She's gonna be alright. Yes, I agree. The Jonas brothers are making several stops here in Florida. The tour will kick off on September 25th in Boston. So they're gonna be in Miami on October 5th, in Orlando October 6th, and in Tampa on October 11th. So if you're a big fan, grab your tickets now. And that's it for Mindy's Minute. Next, the topic of the day. Which of the two smells better? Fresh cut grass or baking bread in the oven? Ooh. I gotta tell you a story about baking bread. It wasn't bread, but it was definitely blueberry muffins. So that is the topic for today. Which one do you lean toward? Fresh cut grass, the smell of that, or baking bread in the oven? My husband, who doesn't sleep, I think he's a vampire. But in the three o'clock, four o'clock in the morning, he's walking around in the kitchen making coffee, this, this, and this. The other morning I woke up to like, what's that smell? blueberry muffins and he made it in a pan instead of making muffins. So he made it like a coffee cake. with powdered sugar on top. I even got to work and was like, mmm mm and my coworker's like, what are you doing? I was like, powdered sugar. My husband and she's like, you didn't bring any? Next time I'll bring something, but it was so good. Like I woke up to that's how you wake up. You should be waking up to like fresh baked bread, pastries, you know, like you're in a five-star resort. And I walk out there, and my husband is like, you wanna try some? Of course I wanna try some. It was really, really good. Ugh. So post your pick and tell us why in the comments. You get to pick one of them out of the two. Which of the two smells better? Fresh cut grass or baking bread in the oven? We want your comments. Coming up next, what's trending? And it has to do with Girl Scout cookies and doggy biscuits? Mm-hmm. The Girl Scouts are launching two new cookies. This is what's trending and what's hot right now, including one for dogs next year. The dog treat is called Patch Pals and is described as a soft-baked blueberry muffin flavored treat. my dog would love that. For humans, there's gonna be an all-new allergy-friendly cookie called Sparkables, which is an oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips that avoids peanuts, eggs, and milk. That's pretty good. The most popular Girl Scout cookies around the nation are Thinmints. Samoas, Carmel Delights, and Tagalongs wraps up the three of those peanut butter patties. I'm a thin mint girl. Mm-hmm. And I like putting them in the freezer. For some reason, it just is the best thing ever. And do I share the sleeve with my husband? No. But he has his own sleeve so that he can have it. He's like, I mean on the couch is munching. He's like, what are you eating? Nothing. So good. So I have a Girl Scout in the neighborhood. And her grandmother always goes door to door with her when she sells Girl Scout cookies. And one day I came home, there's a knock on the door, and I opened the door. And the little girl is there with her grandma and she's Hi, I'm so-and-so to bring you your cookies. And I said, I think you got the wrong house. And then my husband goes, No, she doesn't. And I said, I guess my husband bought cookies. And she's like, yeah, he bought a lot of cookies. She did get her patch, by the way, due to my husband. And he's like, you can keep the cookies. I'll keep the cookies. Bring on the cookies. So yeah. Apparently, my husband bought a lot of cookies from this little girl. So she came back every single year and got more patches because my husband can't say no to someone selling him Girl Scout cookies. And the Girl Scout cookies are delish. You can't help it. You can't help it. All right, coming up next, our local events. And there's gonna be a free concert coming up, a beach cleanup, a big fundraiser across Brevard County. I'm excited about what's coming up, and so will you. Let's get to our local events. A big thank you to the Rose Awards at the Courtyard by Marriott and Cocoa Beach. I emceed that last night. I do it every year, and I think this is my is it my sixth year? It's fifth year. But it's amazing. It's it's basically recognizing outstanding frontline hospitality workers in Brevard. And it also includes restaurants. And I'm able to tell my story because when I was going to Melbourne High School, Go Bulldogs, I lived in Melbourne Beach with my parents. So the Only place back then Publix wasn't built then were restaurants. So I always worked at a restaurant during my high school years. So I totally can relate to, you know, busy Friday nights, Saturday nights, you know, when when you are booming on a weekend and you have to get going, that I I can relate to that. And then when I moved to Daytona and was going to college there and going back and forth to Orlando to UCF and doing classes at the back then was Daytona Beach Community College, but now it's Daytona College. I my part-time job was at the hotel. Front desk. Go figure. So I love telling my stories to the frontliners here because they they can relate. You know, when you when you're in Daytona doing bike week, race week, spring break, summertime, you know, it's one of those industries where you have to be in the front. You have to, you know, talk to the public and and they're there on vacation, so you have to make it like a vacation for them. So, you know, I loved it. I always had such a good time from the restaurant and the hotel. So it's one of those things that if I'm able to help these frontliners and be recognized anytime. Love hosting the Rose Awards. So thank you for allowing me to do that. It's awesome. So let's talk about some free concerts Like Brevard County Parks and Rec. They're continuing its Wickham Park free concert series. It's gonna be tomorrow, September 18th, from six PM to nine PM. You can check out the greatest hits of Stevie Nicks with the live music by Belladonna Project. Love that title. This Saturday, September 19th, is Satellite Beach International Coastal Cleanup from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Pelican Beach Park. Remember, we have 72 miles of beach, so if you have some extra time, please help out with the cleanup and clean up our beaches in Satellite Beach, because our beaches are so beautiful. And it's because of our residents coming out and helping and volunteering to clean up. The city of Cocoa recognized September as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Members of You Matter, Do It For Hunter, join them to accept the proclamation. You Matter Day is happening this Saturday, September 19th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Right here at Merritt Island High School, because I live on Merritt Island. It's a day to come together, connect with resources, support each other, and share a simple but powerful message. You matter. And I know it's a great event they do every year. So if you have a couple hours or time to stop by and just show your support, please do so. It's a great organization and the family is amazing. And 14th annual Reach for the Stars Gala is celebrating 30 years of Take Stock in Children, and it's happening this Saturday night at the Melbourne Hilton Rialto. And I will be emceeing So excited. It'll be my first time. I've never done this, but I saw the pictures and man, you guys know how to party as I'm seeing the picture. And it's their annual event and huge fundraiser. They're gonna have an auction, raffle items, music, dinner, dancing. All the proceeds will directly benefit. Brevard County students whose lives are changed through caring mentorship, college counseling and the promise of a college scholarship. And trust me, that college scholarship is definitely needed and can go a long way. So I'm really excited about emceeing it this Saturday night. I believe tickets still are available unless they sell out. So please go online and see if you can be a part of it because we're giving back to the kids here in Brevard County, which I am so excited about. And everyone coming together for this. I heard it's a really fun time, so I'm excited. Next, the local feel-good story of the day, where a manatee was found in the Indian River in Titusville Titusville and they rescued it and it's doing better. We're going to tell you that story right now. Here's our local feel-good story of the day. A manatee is healing well after wildlife rescuers freed it from a crab trap that left the animal struggling to the surface for air in our very own Indian River lagoon near Titusville. Terry Morris and her husband spotted the manatee struggling in the water and called for help. Rescuers reached the manatee, removed the crab trap, and drove the manatee to SeaWorld Orlando for treatment. The animal underwent surgery where veterinarians amputated its injured right flipper. The manatee continues to receive around the clock care and is doing well, so that's good. But we do have to take care of our waterways and our animals that are in it. That's our local feel-good story of the day. Before we end this episode, we gotta give you the hack of the day. My husband and I love to cook, and especially Italian food. His godfather was from Italy and he was a chef, and I'm the only one in the family that has the meatball recipe and the red sauce recipe and the eggplant parmesan. his godmother had the best one. But anyway, so we cook we cook with a lot of garlic. So to peel garlic cloves, this is your hack of the day. Do the jar shake method. I've tried it, and I'm gonna show you here in just a few seconds on what it looks like. You place the unpeeled cloves in a sealed mason jar and you shake it for about 20 to 60 seconds. Yeah, you keep shaking it. Then you pour it out and it's separated from the cloves from the skin. Because you know how hard it is to cut and peel and cut and peel. And I found this hack, and it works like a charm. It really does. So try it the next time you're cooking with garlic. Song of the week. Since it's International Country Music Day, my pick, The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Charlie Daniels. And the reason why I picked that song, first of all, it's an amazing song. Most of everybody knows it, and if you don't know the words, you can just make up to it. And just everything about that song is amazing. But that is my husband and I and the nieces and nephews when they come down to go with us to the Keys because we have time share the keys. We play that song. That's our road trip song. And that's the one song when we get on I-95 and we're headed through Palm Bay after Merritt Island, and we're like, okay, we're going. We need a song to lift us up. And after passing Palm Bay, we're getting to Vero Beach, we hit that song and we play it a couple times. And we make the kids sing along. It is such a road trip song. And anybody can sing that song. So that is your song of the week. Alright, so let's do some shout-outs. A big thank you to Debbie. Love your class photo, because last Thursday was class photo day. And her photo was from Merritt Island High School, Go Mustangs, from 1982. Thank you for sharing. And Suheil she sent us a picture from her high school picture, class photo from Rockledge High School, Go Raiders. And it was a great photo, like really nice and posed and everything.
