- 0:02Speaker 1: Sharni Grimmond was at the height of her YouTube career. Oh,
- 0:05Speaker 1: my God, this is so intense. What the hell? She'd
- 0:09Speaker 1: hit the big time, notching up one million subscribers and
- 0:12Speaker 1: deals with the world's biggest makeup brands.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Oh, they're chanting.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Now they're a couple.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Oh, Sharni.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But behind closed doors, Sharni was battling relationship doubt and
- 0:24Speaker 1: tensions were brewing in her famous friendship group.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah, so I fucked up. I really fucked up.
- 0:30Speaker 1: In this final installment, we explore Sharni's on-again, off-again romance
- 0:34Speaker 1: with Jonathan Sauer, her life in Melbourne with Tommy Bug,
- 0:37Speaker 1: and reports of a feud with Chloe Zepp.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I got a boyfriend recently. Very fresh, very new.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. Now, we have a lot
- 0:48Speaker 1: to cover today, so we are going to get straight
- 0:50Speaker 1: into it. The breakup of our time. And that was
- 0:53Speaker 1: the breakup between Sharni Grimmond and Jonathan Sauer. I remember
- 0:56Speaker 1: this being so shocking at the time. So it was
- 0:59Speaker 1: July 14th, 2017. And Sharni really broke the internet when
- 1:04Speaker 1: she posted her video entitled, We Broke Up. This video
- 1:09Speaker 1: racked up 2.1 million views.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And it was shot only two weeks after Sharni actually
- 1:15Speaker 1: made the call to end her two and a half
- 1:17Speaker 1: year relationship with Jonathan. She must have felt pretty sure
- 1:21Speaker 1: about things because, you know, it's all pretty fresh then.
- 1:25Speaker 1: She didn't give herself much room to change her mind.
- 1:28Speaker 1: But I think that's because she would have had a
- 1:30Speaker 1: lot of pressure from her followers. People noticed instantly that
- 1:34Speaker 1: Jonathan was suddenly not in a lot of the content. Yeah,
- 1:37Speaker 1: he was missing in action. Now, she prefaced this video
- 1:40Speaker 1: by saying that she knows she doesn't owe her viewers
- 1:43Speaker 1: an explanation, but she wants to give them one because
- 1:46Speaker 1: Jonathan was such a big part of her life and
- 1:48Speaker 1: her channel that She felt like her viewers needed to
- 1:51Speaker 1: know what went down and she also thought it was
- 1:53Speaker 1: something that viewers might learn from and be able to
- 1:56Speaker 1: relate to. Sharni wanted to make it clear in this
- 1:59Speaker 1: video that the breakup was her decision and Jonathan didn't
- 2:03Speaker 1: do anything wrong. Let's have a listen to what she said.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Basically what happened was I fell out of love and
- 2:10Speaker 3: it's so hard to say because like the last thing
- 2:12Speaker 3: that I want to do is hurt John and I,
- 2:15Speaker 3: oh fuck. I mean I had to like put myself
- 2:20Speaker 3: first and I fucking hate hurting people but I had
- 2:28Speaker 3: to put myself first. The last thing that I wanted
- 2:31Speaker 3: to do was hurt Jonathan but as I said I
- 2:34Speaker 3: think at the end of the day your own happiness
- 2:37Speaker 3: is what's most important so I decided to tell him
- 2:42Speaker 3: that I didn't really see like You know, a future
- 2:45Speaker 3: like getting married and having kids and stuff with him.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I just didn't feel like it was right for each other.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I didn't feel like he was right for me. So
- 2:54Speaker 3: I made the step to break it off with him
- 2:57Speaker 3: and it was really hard.
- 2:59Speaker 1: It was a good PR rap for Jonathan. Like how
- 3:02Speaker 1: many girls would have been watching this going... fuck, he's
- 3:05Speaker 1: the best boyfriend ever. Like, why is she dumping him? Yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I felt like I needed to get the tissues out
- 3:09Speaker 1: when I watched this again. I was like, oh my God,
- 3:11Speaker 1: what a sweetheart is Jonathan? Like, he treated her so well.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And this would have been because- As you said, Amy,
- 3:18Speaker 1: there was a lot of speculation around where had Jonathan gone.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And because he was older than her, he's a very
- 3:25Speaker 1: attractive looking guy. I think people assume, oh, fuck, he
- 3:28Speaker 1: must have done it wrong and cheated on her. So
- 3:29Speaker 1: she wanted to make it clear that no one else
- 3:31Speaker 1: was in the picture. It seemed like it was one
- 3:34Speaker 1: of those breakups where she obviously said he didn't do
- 3:37Speaker 1: anything wrong. I think it was the fact that he
- 3:39Speaker 1: was hot, but he didn't have enough substance for her.
- 3:42Speaker 1: That's what I think happened. I think she was wowed
- 3:45Speaker 1: by his looks. But then when they started living together.
- 3:48Speaker 1: She's a very bubbly person. And maybe she thought, well,
- 3:50Speaker 1: we don't really have that back and forth. We don't
- 3:53Speaker 1: have that spark. And as you said, Amy, she really
- 3:56Speaker 1: spoke Jonathan up. So she said in this video that
- 3:58Speaker 1: he made her feel so happy and so confident and
- 4:01Speaker 1: like she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And it was clear that she felt a lot of
- 4:06Speaker 1: guilt for making this call because she did break down
- 4:10Speaker 1: several times in the video. And she got really emotional
- 4:13Speaker 1: thinking about how Jonathan wouldn't be able to see her
- 4:16Speaker 1: dogs Bindi and Peanut every day. And whilst Jonathan did
- 4:20Speaker 1: end up moving out of this apartment, Shiny made it
- 4:23Speaker 1: clear that it wasn't going to be a clean break
- 4:26Speaker 1: because she said that Jonathan would still be working as
- 4:29Speaker 1: her manager and he would still be seeing her family
- 4:32Speaker 1: as he's very close with them. In those kind of breakups,
- 4:36Speaker 1: the whole mention of, you know, he's going to still
- 4:37Speaker 1: see the family and he'll still see the dogs, That
- 4:40Speaker 1: all happens up until there's a new partner involved and
- 4:43Speaker 1: then that all stops. I mean, she must have felt
- 4:46Speaker 1: really guilty, as you said, because he had quit his
- 4:49Speaker 1: job to become her manager. So it wasn't just that
- 4:52Speaker 1: like she was ending things with him. It was actually
- 4:54Speaker 1: affecting his whole life. It was quite interesting because Sharni
- 4:58Speaker 1: wanted to make it clear throughout this video that although
- 5:01Speaker 1: she appeared upset, she was confident and happy in her decision.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
- 5:06Speaker 3: I know that this is the right thing to do, but.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I also felt like I just, like, I made the
- 5:12Speaker 3: right decision. Like, I know this is the right decision
- 5:14Speaker 3: and I know that this is, like, what I want.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I'm 100% sure. So that's why I thought I would
- 5:20Speaker 3: tell everyone because I know that's, like, it's not going
- 5:22Speaker 3: to change. But I'm just really happy that me and
- 5:24Speaker 3: Jonathan are on, like, really good terms. Like, we're texting
- 5:27Speaker 3: right now. Like, he's still my manager. He still, like,
- 5:29Speaker 3: represents me with, like, work and everything. So I'm glad
- 5:32Speaker 3: I still, like, have him in my life on that
- 5:36Speaker 3: side of things.
- 5:37Speaker 1: This is quite difficult knowing what is about to come
- 5:40Speaker 1: because I almost think that two weeks was too soon
- 5:43Speaker 1: to tell the whole world that you've split. But at
- 5:46Speaker 1: the same time, because Sharni and Jonathan were quite MAA
- 5:49Speaker 1: from social media, there was speculation, so they had to
- 5:52Speaker 1: address it. And what you're alluding to is the fact
- 5:55Speaker 1: that they ended up getting back together in Not long
- 5:58Speaker 1: after this, which we will get to in a moment. Now,
- 6:00Speaker 1: Sharni did end this very dramatic video by telling her
- 6:03Speaker 1: followers not to send any hate to Jonathan as he's
- 6:06Speaker 1: not the bad guy and he's never done anything wrong
- 6:09Speaker 1: in the relationship. So do you think he was copping
- 6:11Speaker 1: hate before?
- 6:12Speaker 3: Oh, yes.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Because people were speculating? Oh, definitely. And that would have
- 6:15Speaker 1: been so bad because you're like, I'm the innocent person.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I haven't even broken up with this girl. Maybe Jonathan
- 6:22Speaker 1: also instructed Sharni to say that. Like, oh, you're going
- 6:24Speaker 1: to have to say something. Particularly because they were continuing
- 6:27Speaker 1: to work together. So it's all very messed up and awkward. Well,
- 6:32Speaker 1: shortly after the breakup, Sharni, who was just 20 at
- 6:35Speaker 1: the time, asked her followers to weigh in on whether
- 6:38Speaker 1: she should get a boob job. So she entitled the video,
- 6:41Speaker 1: I Want a Boob Job. Here's what she said.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Recently, I've been thinking about getting a boob job and
- 6:47Speaker 2: I know that's a very serious topic and I kind
- 6:51Speaker 2: of want to explain to you guys like why I
- 6:53Speaker 2: want it, why I don't want it, and then get
- 6:56Speaker 2: your opinion in the comments below because I literally don't know.
- 6:59Speaker 3: What to do.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Shani went on to explain in this video that she'd
- 7:03Speaker 1: gone off the pill following her breakup and she noticed
- 7:06Speaker 1: the appearance of her breast had changed quite dramatically and
- 7:10Speaker 1: she said that they looked deflated and that they'd become
- 7:13Speaker 1: saggy and She did a couple of close-up shots of
- 7:16Speaker 1: her breasts in a crop top and pointed out all
- 7:18Speaker 1: of the areas that she was concerned with. I do
- 7:21Speaker 1: wonder if she regrets creating this video because it wasn't
- 7:25Speaker 1: an announcement video where she'd locked in the procedure and
- 7:28Speaker 1: the date and she was going ahead with it, but
- 7:30Speaker 1: rather this video was asking her followers to weigh in
- 7:34Speaker 1: about what she should do. It was kind of like
- 7:36Speaker 1: a soft launch though. I think she decided already in
- 7:38Speaker 1: her mind that that's what she was going to get done,
- 7:40Speaker 1: but it was almost like she wanted her followers to
- 7:43Speaker 1: be like, yeah, you kind of do need a boob job. Yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 1: but I think in asking their opinion, it almost gave
- 7:48Speaker 1: them ownership or power over the situation. And because not
- 7:52Speaker 1: everyone is going to feel the same way, it's going
- 7:55Speaker 1: to lead to one half of your audience feeling like
- 7:57Speaker 1: you've made the wrong decision. I remember she copped backlash
- 8:01Speaker 1: as well at the time because people were saying, oh
- 8:03Speaker 1: my God, your boobs look great. Like your boobs look
- 8:07Speaker 1: better than mine. Fuck, should I get a boob job? Because-
- 8:10Speaker 1: And I suppose, yeah, it made a lot of her followers,
- 8:13Speaker 1: as you said, feel a bit disconnected from her or
- 8:15Speaker 1: a bit self-conscious. Well, she said that the reason that
- 8:18Speaker 1: she decided to talk about it publicly is because she
- 8:21Speaker 1: wants people to know that this is something that she's
- 8:23Speaker 1: choosing to do for herself and her own confidence. She
- 8:27Speaker 1: wanted to reiterate that no one in her life is
- 8:29Speaker 1: pressuring her to do it, which I thought was interesting. Well,
- 8:32Speaker 1: it's also interesting the timing of it because it obviously
- 8:35Speaker 1: came off the back of her and Jonathan breaking up.
- 8:37Speaker 1: So people were assuming, well, are you doing this because
- 8:40Speaker 1: now you're single or did Jonathan say anything about your boobs?
- 8:43Speaker 1: It was also very clear in this video that she
- 8:46Speaker 1: was concerned about how her followers would perceive her if
- 8:49Speaker 1: she did go ahead with the procedure. Here's what she said.
- 8:53Speaker 2: The last thing that I want is for you guys
- 8:56Speaker 2: to think that, um, you know, I'm fake or that like, I'm,
- 8:59Speaker 2: you know, I'm, I've changed after I get my boobs done. Like,
- 9:02Speaker 2: I don't want, I don't want to be fake. Okay.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Like I really don't. That's the last thing that I want.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I love being like as natural as possible. Um, and
- 9:09Speaker 2: I don't want other people's like opinions of me to change.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Like once I like this goes ahead, whether it does
- 9:15Speaker 2: or not, I really don't know. But, um, You know,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I know a lot of people say to me like, oh,
- 9:21Speaker 2: I look up to you because like you're natural.
- 9:23Speaker 3: And well, I mean, I do have my lips and
- 9:24Speaker 3: my teeth. I'm like, well, but I don't want like,
- 9:28Speaker 3: you know, people.
- 9:29Speaker 1: To be disappointed. It is so much responsibility for a
- 9:32Speaker 1: 20 year old to have this on their shoulders. You
- 9:35Speaker 1: can see that Shani is aware she's a role model
- 9:38Speaker 1: to younger kids. And you can tell she's grappling with
- 9:41Speaker 1: how to make a decision. that will make her happy,
- 9:43Speaker 1: but also the fact that this decision could potentially impact
- 9:47Speaker 1: others and how they view their bodies. I do think
- 9:50Speaker 1: that Shani's mind was made up before she asked her
- 9:54Speaker 1: followers whether she should go ahead because a few weeks
- 9:56Speaker 1: later she was booked in for a consultation with a
- 9:59Speaker 1: surgeon in Sydney and she also made the decision to
- 10:03Speaker 1: document the whole process.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Today's video, I'm going to be vlogging because I'm going
- 10:08Speaker 2: to Sydney to get my boob consultation.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Oh my God, they look so little today.
- 10:14Speaker 3: I'm so excited.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It was really sweet because Michael Finch flew over with
- 10:18Speaker 1: her for the consultation and he kept squeezing all of
- 10:22Speaker 1: the fake boobs. So Shani put some in and he's like,
- 10:25Speaker 1: do you mind? And he squeezed them and he just
- 10:28Speaker 1: kept doing it throughout the whole video and also subsequent videos.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And he said that he had to be careful because
- 10:34Speaker 1: there was this theory online that he was actually closet straight.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And he was pretending to be gay though, so that
- 10:41Speaker 1: he could talk to pretty girls. Well, during the consultation,
- 10:46Speaker 1: Sharni tried on a few different sized implants and originally
- 10:49Speaker 1: she wanted to go quite small, but the surgeon told
- 10:52Speaker 1: her as she has broad shoulders and a wide chest,
- 10:55Speaker 1: she needed to go larger. This is where her age
- 10:58Speaker 1: comes into it for me, because how is a 20
- 11:00Speaker 1: year old? Are you going to have the confidence to
- 11:02Speaker 1: stick to your guns and say, no, I want to
- 11:04Speaker 1: go smaller and keep it natural. especially when the expert
- 11:08Speaker 1: is telling you what size he professionally thinks you should get.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And she did say in the video that she's going
- 11:14Speaker 1: to leave it up to the surgeon to decide on
- 11:17Speaker 1: the size. And at the time there was a lot
- 11:19Speaker 1: of discussion about whether Sharni was old enough to be
- 11:22Speaker 1: getting breast implants because they aren't recommended for patients whose
- 11:26Speaker 1: boobs are still growing. So most people's boobs stop growing
- 11:31Speaker 1: around 18, but there can be some people whose don't
- 11:34Speaker 1: fully grow until their early twenties. And you know, she's
- 11:36Speaker 1: 20 at the time. Yeah. A lot of people are
- 11:38Speaker 1: questioning it as well, because as we said before, she
- 11:41Speaker 1: did have good boobs. I mean, like it's obviously a
- 11:44Speaker 1: personal opinion, but she also mentioned the fact that she'd
- 11:47Speaker 1: gone off the pill and obviously you have hormonal fluctuations.
- 11:51Speaker 1: So people were saying, well, why don't you just go
- 11:53Speaker 1: back on the pill? Yeah, exactly. Well, I mean, also
- 11:56Speaker 1: when it comes to different implants, apparently if you choose
- 12:00Speaker 1: silicone gel implants, You have to be 22 years old
- 12:04Speaker 1: before you get them done. Whereas if you have saline
- 12:06Speaker 1: breast implants, you can be 18. There are also concerns
- 12:10Speaker 1: that young women don't actually consider the lifespan of the
- 12:13Speaker 1: breast implant. So they don't last forever. And if you're
- 12:16Speaker 1: getting them done in your 20s, the likelihood is you
- 12:19Speaker 1: have to get them redone in 10 to 20 years.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And it's very expensive. It was quite funny because Sharni
- 12:27Speaker 1: filmed the cab ride back from the consultation. And Michael
- 12:31Speaker 1: was hilarious in this. He told Sharni that she needed
- 12:34Speaker 1: to provide a few more disclaimers in her vlog. Here's
- 12:38Speaker 1: what he said.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Did you do a little disclaimer?
- 12:40Speaker 2: What's a disclaimer? I just want to let you guys
- 12:43Speaker 2: know that this is my decision and I'm not saying
- 12:45Speaker 2: that you guys have to go out and get fucking implants.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Obviously.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I meet so many people and they come up to
- 12:54Speaker 2: me and they go, I've got lip injections because of you.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And I'm like, amazing.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Oh, no. That's so bad.
- 12:59Speaker 2: But, like, they're older.
- 13:00Speaker 3: It's not like they're fucking.
- 13:01Speaker 1: 16 or something.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I obviously don't want people to get, like,
- 13:07Speaker 2: this isn't me saying I want you to get a
- 13:08Speaker 2: boob job.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I don't think your boobs are good enough.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I think it's just a personal decision that I'm making
- 13:12Speaker 2: because I feel like it's going to make me happier.
- 13:15Speaker 3: And I don't want it to, like, alter how anyone
- 13:17Speaker 3: else feels about their own boobs.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I can see why they focused on this disclaimer because
- 13:22Speaker 1: at the time there was a lot of debate around
- 13:25Speaker 1: whether it was ethical for influencers to share their experiences
- 13:29Speaker 1: about cosmetic surgery. There were of course fears that it
- 13:32Speaker 1: could influence young women to not feel good enough in
- 13:35Speaker 1: their skin and that it also might persuade women to
- 13:38Speaker 1: go under the knife without thinking of the possible repercussions. Well,
- 13:42Speaker 1: Shani ended up locking in the surgery and of course
- 13:44Speaker 1: she vlogged the whole thing. So Michael flew back over
- 13:47Speaker 1: to Sydney with her and He was so supportive. He
- 13:52Speaker 1: ended up staying with her for a week while she
- 13:54Speaker 1: recovered and they included everything. So they showed her getting
- 13:58Speaker 1: changed into her hospital gown. Shani spoke about the embarrassment
- 14:02Speaker 1: of having this old photo of her boobs blown up
- 14:05Speaker 1: on the screen for all of the surgeons to see.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And also just how painful the experience was. You could
- 14:11Speaker 1: tell she was in a lot of pain. Well, that's
- 14:13Speaker 1: the thing. As we said, there's so much debate around
- 14:15Speaker 1: whether this actually influences young women. And I think sometimes
- 14:20Speaker 1: these surgeries, if I was thinking about it and I
- 14:23Speaker 1: saw this video, I'd be like, no, thank you. Well, yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 1: She showed that she woke up at 4 a.m. the
- 14:28Speaker 1: next day and she felt as though she was being
- 14:31Speaker 1: stabbed in the heart and she was struggling to breathe.
- 14:34Speaker 1: She also ended up going a lot larger than she thought.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So the surgeon ended up making that decision while she
- 14:41Speaker 1: was under, which is a bit controversial. Well, that's the thing.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Like you feel like if you're spending all this money,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I think the thought with a lot of women is, well,
- 14:49Speaker 1: I may as well get the bigger boobs. I don't
- 14:50Speaker 1: want to regret it.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Well, this vlog ended up getting 1.6 million views. And
- 14:55Speaker 1: so many women I've spoken to have said that they've
- 14:58Speaker 1: used this video as a guide to see what the
- 15:01Speaker 1: process involves and whether it is something that they'd want
- 15:03Speaker 1: to go through. And other friends have even said that
- 15:06Speaker 1: They've actually gone to Sharni's surgeon after seeing how good
- 15:09Speaker 1: his results were. This wasn't paid though, was it? No,
- 15:13Speaker 1: she paid for this herself. But I think Sharni really
- 15:15Speaker 1: saw her channel as being almost like an educational platform
- 15:19Speaker 1: where she wanted to help people if they also wanted
- 15:21Speaker 1: to get it done. Now, it's hard to believe after
- 15:23Speaker 1: seeing how supportive Michael was in this video, how quickly
- 15:27Speaker 1: cracks started to appear in their friendship. So there was
- 15:31Speaker 1: the infamous trip to the US in September 2017 where
- 15:35Speaker 1: that really rocked Sharni and Michael's friendship. Now, joining them
- 15:39Speaker 1: on the trip was Lily Brown, Reini Bransby and Sky Wheatley.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And it was clear from the group's vlogs that something
- 15:46Speaker 1: was really off between Michael and Sharni because in Michael's
- 15:49Speaker 1: two vlogs, he mostly filmed with Sky and Lily and
- 15:54Speaker 1: Sharni appeared in the background, but she wasn't like a
- 15:57Speaker 1: main character. Yeah, you could tell that she was definitely
- 16:00Speaker 1: on the outer of that friendship group. And she vlogged
- 16:03Speaker 1: alone a lot. And then when you watched Michael's videos,
- 16:06Speaker 1: it seems like there was a lot of tension between
- 16:08Speaker 1: the two.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:09Speaker 1: And people really noticed it. So the comment section under
- 16:12Speaker 1: their YouTube videos was full of people asking if Michael
- 16:15Speaker 1: and Sharni were okay. And also asking if there was
- 16:18Speaker 1: a rift between Sharni and Sky. Now this fight was
- 16:22Speaker 1: short lived because within a month, Michael and Sharni were
- 16:24Speaker 1: back vlogging together, but it did take five months for
- 16:28Speaker 1: Sharni and Michael to address their US fight on YouTube.
- 16:31Speaker 1: So The first mention was randomly during a car trip
- 16:34Speaker 1: with the pair. I could sense in that video that
- 16:37Speaker 1: Sharni was still a bit annoyed about it, particularly the
- 16:40Speaker 1: reference to using it as clickbait. Well, three months later,
- 16:44Speaker 1: we got the full story when Michael uploaded a video
- 16:47Speaker 1: to YouTube called Get Ready With Me plus Sharni confronting
- 16:50Speaker 1: each other about our fight. And it was really awkward
- 16:54Speaker 1: to watch because Sharni was annoyed that Michael wanted her
- 16:57Speaker 1: to talk on camera about it rather than in person.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And it all came out that this fight started because Michael, Sky,
- 17:04Speaker 1: Lily and Rani all flew Economy X. While Sharni flew
- 17:08Speaker 1: business class by herself, but on the same flight. You
- 17:12Speaker 1: don't ever want to be that friend on a trip
- 17:15Speaker 1: that is away from the group for a long period
- 17:17Speaker 1: of time. Especially like, yeah, when you're flying first class
- 17:20Speaker 1: and everyone's a bit like, well, fuck you. Like I'm
- 17:22Speaker 1: stuck in cattle.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 1: And I think because of Sharni's status within the group
- 17:26Speaker 1: as being, you know, the most known influencer and there's
- 17:30Speaker 1: a lot of hype around here. I felt like the
- 17:32Speaker 1: tone was that the others felt like Sharni thought she
- 17:35Speaker 1: was better than them for traveling first class. I don't
- 17:37Speaker 1: think that would have been the case.
- 17:38Speaker 3: No.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And it didn't help that Sharni had had a fight
- 17:41Speaker 1: with her mom right before the flight. So that's not
- 17:44Speaker 1: going to be helping the situation at all.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And I just think like all fights in your early twenties,
- 17:50Speaker 1: it just came down to a lack of communication because
- 17:53Speaker 1: Michael had sent Sharni a text asking if she was okay.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And she replied saying she didn't want to talk. And
- 17:59Speaker 1: Sharni felt like Michael didn't care that she was upset
- 18:02Speaker 1: about this fight with her mom. And then Michael felt
- 18:04Speaker 1: like Sharni was ignoring him. Interestingly, Sharni said she was
- 18:08Speaker 1: so upset that she texted her ex, Jonathan Sauer, even
- 18:12Speaker 1: though they were broken up, to see if she could
- 18:14Speaker 1: get off the flight. And Sharni also admitted that they
- 18:17Speaker 1: didn't talk to each other for the first day of
- 18:19Speaker 1: the trip and that he would talk to anyone but her.
- 18:22Speaker 1: And she ended up sitting downstairs by herself the whole time.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Isn't it wild that everyone picked up on it though?
- 18:28Speaker 1: Like as in, you know, the theory was correct. It
- 18:31Speaker 1: would have been hard for Sharni because... She's not only
- 18:34Speaker 1: going through this friendship issue with Michael and the other guys,
- 18:37Speaker 1: but she's also navigating this very high profile breakup. She
- 18:42Speaker 1: didn't let it stop her, though, from still talking about
- 18:44Speaker 1: Jonathan because she didn't shy away from any questions she
- 18:48Speaker 1: was asked about him and she would do the most
- 18:50Speaker 1: epic Q & As. And she entitled one of the videos,
- 18:53Speaker 1: Keeping in Contact with an Ex. And in it, she
- 18:56Speaker 1: discussed how she and Jonathan were on great terms and
- 18:59Speaker 1: in fact, still hanging out. She also touched on how
- 19:02Speaker 1: she would feel if he moved on with someone else.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Seeing their ex get in a relationship is always going
- 19:24Speaker 2: to be weird.
- 19:24Speaker 1: It's not something you.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Really like want to see, but whatever.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Me and John are friends right now and everyone was
- 19:30Speaker 2: fully freaking out when he uploaded a photo with Bindi
- 19:32Speaker 2: because we went for a walk. Like we hang out
- 19:33Speaker 2: all the time and he's my manager as well.
- 19:36Speaker 3: So like there's no beef at all. We're really close.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Like I literally texted him and I was like, do
- 19:42Speaker 2: you care if people know that we're like friends and
- 19:44Speaker 2: hanging out and stuff? And he's like, no, you always
- 19:46Speaker 2: talk about me though. And I was like, yeah, I know.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I'm sorry. Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 1: But I love John I love that Jonathan was just
- 19:53Speaker 1: casually staring the pot by sharing this photo of him
- 19:56Speaker 1: on a walk with Bindi because you can just imagine
- 19:59Speaker 1: the reaction from their young fans Yeah. Well, it was
- 20:01Speaker 1: clear that he still wanted to be with Sharni. He
- 20:04Speaker 1: wasn't happy about this breakup. What was also quite clear
- 20:07Speaker 1: is how many people stand this relationship because people felt
- 20:11Speaker 1: like it was almost their own heartbreak and they were
- 20:13Speaker 1: desperate for sort of mom and dad to get back together. Now,
- 20:17Speaker 1: despite no update on their relationship status, over the next
- 20:21Speaker 1: couple of months, Jonathan would just randomly pop up in
- 20:24Speaker 1: Sharni's vlogs without any explanation. So In one vlog, Jonathan
- 20:29Speaker 1: just so happened to be standing in Shani's kitchen making
- 20:32Speaker 1: breakfast and then with his shirt off, mind you. And
- 20:35Speaker 1: then that night he was back in her apartment cooking
- 20:38Speaker 1: dinner again. I love that she actually showed that though.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Like how much like YouTubers, they used to reveal so
- 20:45Speaker 1: much more about their life, like making it juicy for
- 20:47Speaker 1: the viewers. In that same vlog, she did show Jonathan
- 20:50Speaker 1: wheeling out some old furniture and commented that he's still
- 20:53Speaker 1: in the process of moving out five months later. And
- 20:56Speaker 1: this led people in the comment section to start speculating.
- 21:00Speaker 1: So one follower wrote, patiently waiting for John and Sharni
- 21:03Speaker 1: to announce their back together. And that comment got 3.4
- 21:06Speaker 1: thousand likes. Whilst another said, you can clearly see that
- 21:10Speaker 1: as people, Sharni and John are so mature. The fact
- 21:13Speaker 1: they can still hang out with no bad blood and
- 21:15Speaker 1: respect each other is so admirable. I love them. The
- 21:18Speaker 1: baiting continued in a second vlog when Jonathan joined Sharni
- 21:22Speaker 1: and Michael on their merch shoot. So side note, this
- 21:25Speaker 1: photo shoot was extremely iconic. Neither would be seen dead
- 21:29Speaker 1: in any of these clothes now. So one of the
- 21:32Speaker 1: shirts had cartoon bindis on the boobs. When you say bindis,
- 21:36Speaker 1: that is her dog.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And we're going to share some highlights of the shoot
- 21:40Speaker 1: on our Instagram and TikTok if you want to check
- 21:42Speaker 1: it out. You might be thinking, oh, that sounds pretty
- 21:45Speaker 1: normal because Jonathan was still her manager and this was
- 21:48Speaker 1: a work shoot. But things got weirder later when Sharni
- 21:52Speaker 1: chose to put up a scene of her doing her
- 21:54Speaker 1: makeup whilst sitting on Jonathan's lap. And they then proceeded
- 21:58Speaker 1: to have this flirty chat back and forth about how
- 22:00Speaker 1: Jonathan works for Sharni. Here's what they said. Now I'm unemployed.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Now I'm self-employed now. I work for myself. And me.
- 22:11Speaker 2: You work for me as well.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I don't.
- 22:13Speaker 3: You don't?
- 22:13Speaker 2: No.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Well, you're my manager, so you do.
- 22:19Speaker 2: What is the term then?
- 22:20Speaker 3: I work with you. Oh, you work with me.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Followers had a field day with this video. So one
- 22:27Speaker 1: wrote the fact she was sitting on his lap while
- 22:29Speaker 1: doing her makeup. See ya, which got 2.3 thousand likes. Now,
- 22:34Speaker 1: a few weeks later, Shani teased her followers further by
- 22:38Speaker 1: uploading a video where she pranked Michael Finch that she
- 22:41Speaker 1: was pregnant with Jonathan's baby. I have to throw to
- 22:44Speaker 1: the clip because Michael's reaction was amazing.
- 22:47Speaker 2: So you know how last night I said I had cramps?
- 22:50Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I went and got the pregnancy test.
- 22:53Speaker 3: No.
- 22:54Speaker 2: From there.
- 22:55Speaker 3: You're lying. Are you? No. Oh, fuck.
- 22:59Speaker 2: No, like, I'm not lying. Please tell me you're lying.
- 23:09Speaker 3: No.
- 23:11Speaker 2: I'm so stressed. That's why I'm late because I have
- 23:14Speaker 2: the worst cramps. What are you going to do?
- 23:17Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I don't know. Oh my god, that's like next level.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I know.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Did you tell John? No. You haven't told John?
- 23:29Speaker 1: No. I'm too scared.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Oh. Oh my god. I know.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Shit's fucked.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Okay, step number one.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So she had hidden her camera in the back of.
- 23:49Speaker 3: This seat. So this was his genuine reaction to.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Thinking that Sharni was pregnant. Well, it's obvious that they
- 24:09Speaker 1: were still sleeping together. Oh, yeah, that's the thing. It
- 24:12Speaker 1: made it so clear that all of her friends were
- 24:14Speaker 1: aware that they were back together. One thing that was
- 24:17Speaker 1: so cute is Michael said that he was worried that
- 24:19Speaker 1: Bindi was going to feel replaced if Jonathan and Shani
- 24:23Speaker 1: had a baby. That seemed to be his major concern.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Can you imagine how big that would have been if
- 24:28Speaker 1: she was actually pregnant with Jonathan's baby? Well, particularly when
- 24:31Speaker 1: they were on a break. Yeah, but if you think about,
- 24:34Speaker 1: for example... when Sarah's day fell pregnant. Would that have
- 24:38Speaker 1: been what it's like? Like, would we now be seeing
- 24:40Speaker 1: family vlogs of the pair? Well, would they still be together?
- 24:43Speaker 3: I wonder.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I mean, Sharni was only 21 at this stage and
- 24:45Speaker 1: Jonathan was 26. Now, a few weeks later, Sharni addressed
- 24:49Speaker 1: the rumors saying that she'd fucked up and the breakup
- 24:53Speaker 1: was a mistake.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Right now, at this current moment, Jonathan and I are
- 24:57Speaker 2: not boyfriend and girlfriend. But let's put it this way.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Have you ever lost someone in your life and you thought,
- 25:05Speaker 2: I'm ready to move on with my life without them.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I'm ready to open the next chapter of my life.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And then when they're gone, you're like, what the f... Like,
- 25:15Speaker 2: why did I do that? Like, sometimes you've got to
- 25:18Speaker 2: lose someone to realize how much they mean to you.
- 25:20Speaker 2: It's so funny, like, saying that because the last video
- 25:23Speaker 2: I made was, oh my god, I still love him
- 25:25Speaker 2: so much, but I just can't see myself with him
- 25:27Speaker 2: for the rest of my life.
- 25:28Speaker 3: And now I'm just like, yeah, so I fucked up.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I really fucked up.
- 25:33Speaker 1: This was such a juicy viewing. It was like watching
- 25:37Speaker 1: a real-life soap opera. Yeah, everyone was living for these
- 25:40Speaker 1: little breadcrumbs that Sharni was throwing out there and the
- 25:43Speaker 1: news excited her followers so much because, as I said,
- 25:46Speaker 1: they constantly romanticised this relationship. Sharni said that she would
- 25:51Speaker 1: explain more in another video because there's so much she
- 25:54Speaker 1: wants to say and she feels like she has a
- 25:57Speaker 1: lot of explaining to do. Well, Sharni broke the internet
- 26:00Speaker 1: for a second time when she released a video called
- 26:04Speaker 1: Explaining Why John and I Got Back Together. This video
- 26:08Speaker 1: attracted 1 million views. So for context, this video came
- 26:12Speaker 1: out six months after the initial breakup video. And Sharni
- 26:16Speaker 1: was very nervous to put this out because she didn't
- 26:19Speaker 1: want people weighing in with their opinions, which of course
- 26:22Speaker 1: they were going to do. And she explained that following
- 26:25Speaker 1: the breakup, they went their separate ways. And she felt
- 26:28Speaker 1: really happy and didn't regret anything. And she said that
- 26:31Speaker 1: they stayed in contact only on a professional level and
- 26:35Speaker 1: were discussing work opportunities. But things really changed four months
- 26:39Speaker 1: into the breakup when she spotted Jonathan on a night out.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Here's what Shani said.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Four or so months went by of being broken up
- 26:49Speaker 2: with him.
- 26:49Speaker 3: And.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I remember I really started to miss having him around,
- 26:58Speaker 2: and it didn't really hit me until I saw him
- 27:02Speaker 2: when I was out one night. So just imagine me
- 27:05Speaker 2: and my friends dancing, having a great time, and then
- 27:08Speaker 2: little Jonathan walks past me, and I look over and
- 27:10Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god.
- 27:14Speaker 3: The dogs totally ruined that moment. Bindy!
- 27:17Speaker 2: I remember just thinking, what? the fuck have I done?
- 27:22Speaker 2: Like it literally hit me like a ton of bricks. Like, yeah,
- 27:25Speaker 2: I was missing him.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I missed having him around. I missed him so much.
- 27:29Speaker 2: But like at this point when he walked past me
- 27:31Speaker 2: and I saw him in person, I was like, holy shit,
- 27:36Speaker 2: I've made the biggest mistake of my life. Like at
- 27:38Speaker 2: this point, I can genuinely say this is the biggest
- 27:41Speaker 2: mistake I've ever made.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I want to know, was this a jealousy thing? Like,
- 27:45Speaker 1: was he chatting to other girls at the nightclub or
- 27:47Speaker 1: did he just look really hot when he walked in?
- 27:49Speaker 1: I reckon it was the hot thing. Like, I think
- 27:52Speaker 1: sometimes probably like when she was in a relationship, she
- 27:55Speaker 1: probably thought, oh my God, there's all these other good
- 27:56Speaker 1: looking guys out there. And then suddenly when you're single,
- 28:00Speaker 1: you never seem to come across any of these good
- 28:02Speaker 1: looking people. It's like all these fucking duds. It's so true. Well,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I mean, maybe duds is a bit harsh, but That night,
- 28:10Speaker 1: she told her friends that she needed to get Jonathan back.
- 28:14Speaker 1: And she said that she went home distraught and she
- 28:16Speaker 1: hatched a plan to speak to him the next day.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So she begged to meet up with him and he
- 28:22Speaker 1: finally agreed. So she met at his house and she
- 28:25Speaker 1: said that she was too scared and nervous to tell
- 28:27Speaker 1: him how she actually felt because she was convinced that
- 28:31Speaker 1: he wouldn't take her back. So she intended on saying,
- 28:35Speaker 1: I don't want you to be my manager anymore. I
- 28:37Speaker 1: want you to be my boyfriend. But She instead just said,
- 28:41Speaker 1: I don't want you to be my manager. She didn't
- 28:43Speaker 1: follow up with the boyfriend thing. So it caused an
- 28:46Speaker 1: argument and she left there in tears. Is that the worst? Like,
- 28:50Speaker 1: you know, when you rehearse something in your head and
- 28:52Speaker 1: then it just doesn't come out right. Well, she said
- 28:54Speaker 1: that she'd never felt more upset. And it got to
- 28:56Speaker 1: the stage that night where she almost called herself an ambulance.
- 29:00Speaker 1: And she was also texting Jonathan saying that she needed help.
- 29:04Speaker 1: And he said that he really thinks that she should
- 29:06Speaker 1: talk to someone professionally as she wasn't coping well with
- 29:08Speaker 1: the breakup. And he was just so confused by it all. Well,
- 29:12Speaker 1: you would be. So the next day, Shani said she
- 29:15Speaker 1: convinced Jonathan to meet her during his lunch break at sushi.
- 29:19Speaker 1: And he was very confused by this point. So she
- 29:21Speaker 1: finally got the nerve to ask for a second chance
- 29:24Speaker 1: and he was shocked. Yeah. And he laid down the
- 29:27Speaker 1: law saying that if he was to take her back,
- 29:30Speaker 1: She needed to prove to him that she actually wanted
- 29:33Speaker 1: to be with him and she wasn't going to change
- 29:35Speaker 1: her mind again. So from that point on, Shani was
- 29:39Speaker 1: doing all of the grafting she was constantly asking him
- 29:42Speaker 1: to dinners and movies and they started catching up in
- 29:45Speaker 1: secret because she didn't want her followers being able to
- 29:49Speaker 1: weigh in and potentially ruin something that was so delicate
- 29:52Speaker 1: at that point and So with Sharni and Jonathan back together,
- 29:56Speaker 1: they set off for Sydney for an appearance with Princess
- 29:58Speaker 1: Polly and Benefits Cosmetic. And Michael was there, of course,
- 30:02Speaker 1: in tow because he and Sharni were doing a meet
- 30:04Speaker 1: and greet in the city. So they arrived on a
- 30:07Speaker 1: large bus to thousands of screaming fans dressed in their merchandise. Oh,
- 30:12Speaker 1: my God, this is so intense. What the hell?
- 30:15Speaker 2: Oh, they're chanting.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Now they're uncomfortable.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Oh, Sharni. Are you ready?
- 30:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Oh.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Oh my God. Shiny and Michael ended up posing with
- 30:30Speaker 1: fans for five hours and it was absolute pandemonium with
- 30:34Speaker 1: fans chasing their car as they left. They also were
- 30:37Speaker 1: given a lot of presents. So Shiny was given countless
- 30:40Speaker 1: bouquets of flowers and fan art and lollies. It was
- 30:43Speaker 1: just crazy. I remember all of Michael Fincher's fan art.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Like they were like the cutest cartoons of him. There
- 30:49Speaker 1: was some drama that went down ahead of the meet
- 30:51Speaker 1: and greet though. So Before the event, someone tweeted Michael
- 30:54Speaker 1: saying they were going to egg him. So Princess Polly
- 30:57Speaker 1: and Benefits had to put on extra security guards. Luckily,
- 31:00Speaker 1: he did not get egged. Now that Sharni and Jonathan
- 31:04Speaker 1: were reunited, they travelled to Bali to celebrate their joint birthdays.
- 31:08Speaker 1: For some reason, I really stand the fact that they
- 31:11Speaker 1: had the same birthdays. It was just very cute. It
- 31:13Speaker 1: would actually be pretty shit, to be honest, though. Well,
- 31:16Speaker 1: Jonathan actually said in this vlog that he would put
- 31:18Speaker 1: up a post for Sharni's birthday and his friends would
- 31:20Speaker 1: be like, oh, happy birthday, Sharni, and they'd all forget
- 31:23Speaker 1: that it was his birthday. Now, whilst things seem to
- 31:26Speaker 1: be going well up until this point, The Bali trip
- 31:30Speaker 1: really showed that cracks were starting to appear in their
- 31:33Speaker 1: relationship because they filmed a couple Q & A and
- 31:37Speaker 1: they dived into the breakup and the future. And it
- 31:39Speaker 1: was clear that they weren't really on the same page.
- 31:42Speaker 1: And in this Q & A, they answered a lot
- 31:44Speaker 1: of awkward questions, including, did Jonathan get back with Shani
- 31:48Speaker 1: because she got breast implants? I just love that they
- 31:51Speaker 1: went there. So Jonathan dropped a bomb by saying that
- 31:56Speaker 1: They actually got together before Sharni got them done. So
- 31:59Speaker 1: he flew to Sydney to bring Sharni home from her surgery.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Things got even more awkward when followers asked questions about
- 32:06Speaker 1: kids and marriage and Sharni appeared hurt by Jonathan's response.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Let's have a listen.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Are you and John ever going to get married?
- 32:14Speaker 1: Are we ever going to?
- 32:15Speaker 3: Well, yeah, if we're still together.
- 32:20Speaker 1: It's a dance.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Do you feel bad for saying that?
- 32:24Speaker 3: No, like.
- 32:24Speaker 1: That's mean. Is it?
- 32:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:28Speaker 1: No, well, like, obviously, I'm being realistic.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Um... I.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Don't know.
- 32:35Speaker 1: We don't... We're not like the... Oh, no, no, not
- 32:37Speaker 1: like that.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I don't mean I don't know that.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I'm just going to cut that one.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Shut up.
- 32:41Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Danger.
- 32:44Speaker 3: It's all that matters.
- 32:46Speaker 1: To me, this made it sound as though Jonathan didn't
- 32:49Speaker 1: feel very secure in the relationship, because if we remember...
- 32:53Speaker 1: Sharni broke up with him because she couldn't see a
- 32:55Speaker 1: future with him. So he probably didn't want to make
- 32:57Speaker 1: himself look foolish by gushing about marriage and kids when
- 33:00Speaker 1: things were still pretty fresh. It could have been a
- 33:03Speaker 1: sour point for them as well, talking about kids and marriage,
- 33:06Speaker 1: because there was a bit of an age gap. In
- 33:08Speaker 1: another question, Jonathan revealed that when he and Sharni started
- 33:11Speaker 1: talking again, He had a big guard up, but now
- 33:14Speaker 1: they're back together. They're back to where they used to be. Yeah,
- 33:17Speaker 1: it was awkward because Sharni butted in being like, is
- 33:19Speaker 1: that a good thing though? Because it almost sounded as
- 33:22Speaker 1: though they were back to that stale time in their relationship.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Now everyone's fears were confirmed when Sharni released a Q &
- 33:28Speaker 1: A called The Breakup, Happiness and New Beginnings. And in it,
- 33:33Speaker 1: she confirmed that she and Jonathan had broken up for
- 33:36Speaker 1: real this time and she doesn't want to make it
- 33:38Speaker 1: a big deal. She said, the answer is simple. It's
- 33:41Speaker 1: not going to work between us. And she was very
- 33:44Speaker 1: mindful that her followers might be emotional about the breakup
- 33:48Speaker 1: saying this.
- 33:49Speaker 2: I'm just sorry if it upset you guys at all,
- 33:52Speaker 2: because I know everyone looks online and they see all
- 33:55Speaker 2: these couples and you think, oh my God, they have
- 33:57Speaker 2: the perfect relationship.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Trust me.
- 34:00Speaker 2: You literally have no idea what goes on behind the camera.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Like I'm, I'm sitting in here filming this video. It's
- 34:07Speaker 2: And then you go back to like your normal life.
- 34:08Speaker 2: So what I'm trying to say is like, you see
- 34:10Speaker 2: the smallest portion of someone's relationship or someone's life. And
- 34:14Speaker 2: I know it can look so good from online. And like,
- 34:16Speaker 2: obviously you're only going to post like the positives of
- 34:19Speaker 2: the relationship. And that's what I did. So it creates
- 34:21Speaker 2: this like mental image in people's head. Like, oh my God,
- 34:24Speaker 2: they're so perfect. They're so cute. I can't wait for
- 34:25Speaker 2: them to have kids. I can't wait for them to
- 34:27Speaker 2: get married. But like, you've just got to think about like,
- 34:30Speaker 2: it's like, it's not perfect. Like every relationship that you see,
- 34:33Speaker 2: it is not perfect at all.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I really liked the way that Sharni addressed the fact
- 34:39Speaker 1: that although their relationship looked picture perfect online, it was
- 34:43Speaker 1: far from that. And at this stage, Sharni said that
- 34:46Speaker 1: Jonathan would continue on as her manager, but they're both
- 34:49Speaker 1: ready to move on separately in their lives. Following the breakup,
- 34:53Speaker 1: Sharni took a step back from sharing about her private life.
- 34:56Speaker 1: She was still active on YouTube, but concentrated on trend
- 35:00Speaker 1: videos or makeup tutorials. So in a video entitled The Truth,
- 35:05Speaker 1: Sharnu revealed Jonathan was no longer her manager. Here's what
- 35:08Speaker 1: she said.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Jonathan used to be my manager and obviously breaking up
- 35:14Speaker 2: and everything it just I just felt like it was
- 35:17Speaker 2: the best thing to just separate that completely from my
- 35:21Speaker 2: work just because I feel like work is so important
- 35:24Speaker 2: and I just didn't want to jeopardize it at all
- 35:26Speaker 2: so I was like okay I think it's time that
- 35:27Speaker 2: we both move on from that chapter of management I
- 35:30Speaker 2: just didn't think it was really healthy so it I
- 35:32Speaker 2: then went over to someone else and then someone else
- 35:35Speaker 2: and then someone else. And it was just so hard
- 35:37Speaker 2: to find the right manager and for someone to be
- 35:40Speaker 2: able to do what I wanted them to do.
- 35:42Speaker 1: This was the right decision for both Shani and Jonathan.
- 35:45Speaker 1: There is just no way that you could continue working
- 35:48Speaker 1: alongside your ex and keep your finances tied together like that.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Because surely Jonathan would have still been getting 10% of
- 35:56Speaker 1: every one of Shani's deals. Maybe 15%. Yeah. And I mean,
- 36:00Speaker 1: things would have just gotten so messy once they both
- 36:02Speaker 1: started dating new people. It's interesting because Shani also used
- 36:06Speaker 1: the video to tease that she was coming out with
- 36:09Speaker 1: her own brand very soon, which is even more reason
- 36:12Speaker 1: to cut ties financially with your ex.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:14Speaker 1: And it was quite sad because this wasn't your happy,
- 36:16Speaker 1: typical Shani video. You could see in her eyes that
- 36:20Speaker 1: she looked really sad and her tone was all off.
- 36:23Speaker 1: And She had said that she had been going through
- 36:25Speaker 1: a lot. She admitted that she had been struggling badly
- 36:28Speaker 1: with anxiety, which had led her to feeling insecure and
- 36:31Speaker 1: unconfident and not wanting to film. And she said that
- 36:34Speaker 1: when she feels anxious, she goes into her own little bubble,
- 36:37Speaker 1: which isn't healthy for her. She was really honest in
- 36:40Speaker 1: this video. So she said she's seeking support from a
- 36:43Speaker 1: psychologist and her best friend, Chloe, was also a great
- 36:46Speaker 1: support system to her. She's mentioned that she was spending
- 36:50Speaker 1: more and more time in Melbourne with Chloe as well.
- 36:52Speaker 1: When I think about it, Sharni was the first person
- 36:55Speaker 1: I ever heard speak openly about anxiety. It was before
- 36:59Speaker 1: people freely spoke about their mental health. And I think
- 37:03Speaker 1: Sharni's openness about it really helped break down stigma and
- 37:07Speaker 1: pave the way for others to discuss how they were feeling. Yeah. Now,
- 37:11Speaker 1: at the end of 2018, a new man entered the scene,
- 37:15Speaker 1: Carlton footballer Tommy Bug. Now, Tommy was playing football in Melbourne.
- 37:20Speaker 1: And he was living with Chloe Zepp and Mitchell Orville.
- 37:23Speaker 1: So Mitch's dad, Mark Orville, and his brother both played AFL.
- 37:27Speaker 1: So Mitch is very connected in that world. And Tommy
- 37:31Speaker 1: also ran a talent management agency called Zeus, which Chloe
- 37:35Speaker 1: and Mitch were both signed up to.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:37Speaker 1: And Shani met Tommy while she was visiting Chloe in
- 37:40Speaker 1: Melbourne and they immediately hit it off. It was quite
- 37:44Speaker 1: interesting because unlike her past relationship with Jonathan, Sharni kept
- 37:48Speaker 1: the start of this relationship very much under wraps. So
- 37:52Speaker 1: they dated for about three months before Sharni announced to
- 37:55Speaker 1: her YouTube followers that she was moving to Melbourne to
- 37:58Speaker 1: be with Tommy. Here's what she said.
- 38:00Speaker 2: I got a boyfriend recently.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Very fresh, very new.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I'm sure you guys know if you keep up to
- 38:08Speaker 2: date with like my Instagram and stuff or like Snapchat,
- 38:10Speaker 2: probably post the most on Snapchat posts.
- 38:13Speaker 3: About our relationship.
- 38:14Speaker 2: But yeah, for the most part, it is quite private
- 38:16Speaker 2: for now because it is so new. But he lives
- 38:20Speaker 2: in Melbourne and it's honestly the worst doing long distance relationships.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Like we've tried it for, I mean, we've been like,
- 38:25Speaker 2: I guess like trying to do it like this.
- 38:28Speaker 3: For like three months.
- 38:30Speaker 1: This was a really hard decision for Sharni as she'd
- 38:33Speaker 1: be moving away from her family and also Michael Finch,
- 38:36Speaker 1: who were all in Brisbane. And Michael wasn't happy about
- 38:39Speaker 1: the move. And Michael moved from Victoria to be closer
- 38:43Speaker 1: to Shani in Brisbane. That's why he was really upset
- 38:46Speaker 1: because he thought, oh, we can film together.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:49Speaker 1: And I mean, it's pretty clear that Sharni had very
- 38:51Speaker 1: strong feelings for Tommy because she said that she is
- 38:53Speaker 1: willing to make these changes for him. It would have
- 38:56Speaker 1: helped having Chloe and Mitch also in Melbourne. At least
- 38:59Speaker 1: she wasn't moving there without any friends.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 1: It was interesting because when she first spoke about Tommy
- 39:04Speaker 1: in this vlog, she did preface that long distance is
- 39:07Speaker 1: so tough and that is the only thing that they
- 39:09Speaker 1: fight about. And When they're not together, they get frustrated
- 39:13Speaker 1: by the distance. Well, it would be hard because– Well,
- 39:16Speaker 1: you've done long distance. Well, yeah, but I was also
- 39:17Speaker 1: going to say like Tommy was playing AFL football at
- 39:20Speaker 1: the time. You can imagine– he was like– he's a
- 39:22Speaker 1: good-looking guy. You can imagine there would have been girls
- 39:24Speaker 1: after him. But it's a big move moving from Brisbane
- 39:28Speaker 1: to Melbourne to a cold Melbourne Brisbane's beautiful and warm
- 39:31Speaker 1: and sunny and then Melbourne is so different it's just
- 39:34Speaker 1: such a different vibe I mean the initial plan for
- 39:36Speaker 1: Shani was that she was going to move to Melbourne
- 39:39Speaker 1: for nine months and then come back to Brisbane every
- 39:41Speaker 1: two weeks now very soon into Shani actually moving to
- 39:45Speaker 1: Melbourne Tommy shocked the sporting world by retiring from football
- 39:49Speaker 1: to focus on his talent management agency. And at this stage,
- 39:53Speaker 1: he was already managing Sharni and also Chloe and Mitch. So,
- 39:57Speaker 1: I mean, Sharni must have a thing for managers. This
- 40:00Speaker 1: is her second boyfriend who is her manager. I remember
- 40:02Speaker 1: at the time, everyone was kind of blaming Sharni for
- 40:05Speaker 1: the fact that Tommy Bugger retired because it was so
- 40:07Speaker 1: odd because he was in the prime of his footy career.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And to pull the pin like that I don't know.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I mean, is it still successful? Zoots, I'm assuming he's
- 40:16Speaker 1: doing all right. Yeah, I have heard. I mean, I
- 40:19Speaker 1: heard a couple of years ago that they were opening
- 40:21Speaker 1: up agencies in each state. I mean, I actually don't
- 40:24Speaker 1: think Sharni was happy about it because in a vlog
- 40:27Speaker 1: she said, oh, I've just moved here and now he's
- 40:29Speaker 1: not even playing anymore. So I don't actually think it
- 40:31Speaker 1: was down to him. You at least want to go
- 40:32Speaker 1: to a couple of the games. I know, you want
- 40:34Speaker 1: to be a wag for a while. Well, Tommy told
- 40:36Speaker 1: the media at the time that his passion for the
- 40:38Speaker 1: game had dwindled and his focus was was increasingly turning
- 40:41Speaker 1: to his business. He said in the space of seven
- 40:44Speaker 1: months that Zootz had gone from a startup to a
- 40:46Speaker 1: multi-million dollar firm. You'd also assume that living with Chloe
- 40:51Speaker 1: Zepp and Mitchell Orville, who were, you know, they were
- 40:54Speaker 1: on the party scene at the time, and also having
- 40:56Speaker 1: your girlfriend as an influencer. he would have seen this
- 40:59Speaker 1: lifestyle that they were leading. Like when you're an AFL footballer, yes,
- 41:03Speaker 1: you are getting good money but you're having to get
- 41:05Speaker 1: up early every day, go to training. Oh, cry me
- 41:07Speaker 1: a river. No, but I'm saying there's a lot of
- 41:09Speaker 1: commitment to it and then he's seen probably people earning
- 41:12Speaker 1: even more than him for perceivably not doing as much work. Well,
- 41:17Speaker 1: I don't know. It's not like being an AFL footballer
- 41:19Speaker 1: is your typical nine to five grind. No, I'm not
- 41:21Speaker 1: saying that but you actually have to put in a
- 41:24Speaker 1: lot of time like training and the diet and there's
- 41:26Speaker 1: a lot of commitment involved.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Well, sadly, it wasn't long before rumors of a feud
- 41:31Speaker 1: between Khloe and Shani broke out because out of nowhere,
- 41:36Speaker 1: Khloe and Shani unfollowed each other. And, you know, I
- 41:41Speaker 1: take my hat off to them because they both kept
- 41:43Speaker 1: the fight offline, but it still did lead to a
- 41:45Speaker 1: lot of speculation. And a micro-influencer called Sheridan O'Malley, who
- 41:51Speaker 1: was friends with Michael Finch, spoke out about the feud
- 41:54Speaker 1: in 2020. So I want to point out that these
- 41:56Speaker 1: are all allegations. So Sheridan claims that the feud started
- 42:00Speaker 1: back in early 2019 after Sharni moved to Melbourne to
- 42:04Speaker 1: be with Tommy Bug. And it's rumored that Sharni actually
- 42:07Speaker 1: met Tommy while she and Jonathan were on a break. Now,
- 42:11Speaker 1: Sheridan claimed in this video that Tommy was cheating on
- 42:15Speaker 1: Sharni and Chloe knew about it. So allegedly, again, this
- 42:20Speaker 1: is not confirmed. Allegedly, Chloe confronted Tommy about the rumours.
- 42:25Speaker 1: But Sharni told her to stay out of it and
- 42:27Speaker 1: was very angry that Chloe got involved because she'd just
- 42:30Speaker 1: moved to Melbourne to be with him and she didn't
- 42:31Speaker 1: want to hear about it. Oh, that is so tough
- 42:34Speaker 1: for both Sharni and Chloe because in this situation. If
- 42:37Speaker 1: it is true. Yeah, if it's true and Tommy cheated,
- 42:39Speaker 1: he's the fucking dirtbag who's putting each of them in
- 42:42Speaker 1: this really awkward situation because sometimes if you're the friend
- 42:46Speaker 1: and you reveal this horrible news about someone's boyfriend, it
- 42:50Speaker 1: gets kind of turned on you and you're seen as,
- 42:53Speaker 1: I mean, you're the messenger but you're seen as, the
- 42:55Speaker 1: person providing really bad news. Well, it'd be particularly awkward
- 42:59Speaker 1: for Chloe and Mitch because if you're living with someone,
- 43:02Speaker 1: you're going to see her there bringing back at night time.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Now Sheridan also claims that Chloe and Mitch sat Sharni
- 43:09Speaker 1: down and told her this guy is bad news and
- 43:12Speaker 1: you need to break up with him. The other rumour
- 43:15Speaker 1: floating around is that the feud is down to activewear.
- 43:18Speaker 1: So just as Chloe brought out her new activewear line
- 43:21Speaker 1: called Zep, Sharni got signed as a Gymshark ambassador. So
- 43:25Speaker 1: it's rumored that this caused tension between the pair. It's
- 43:28Speaker 1: a hard one because these are all just rumors. We
- 43:31Speaker 1: don't actually know what went down. Sharni and Chloe have
- 43:33Speaker 1: never addressed it. It is pretty common though to have
- 43:37Speaker 1: a friendship breakdown in your early 20s. It's such a
- 43:39Speaker 1: relatable thing. So many people go through it. It's always
- 43:42Speaker 1: when boys are involved though, have you noticed? Yeah, they
- 43:45Speaker 1: always come in and ruin everything. Now this is where
- 43:47Speaker 1: things get interesting because Tommy and Sharni broke up in
- 43:51Speaker 1: August 2020 and And Sharni blamed the long distance because
- 43:56Speaker 1: she only ended up spending five months in Melbourne at
- 43:59Speaker 1: the end and moved back to Brisbane. And they both
- 44:02Speaker 1: decided that, well, long term, she didn't want to live
- 44:04Speaker 1: in Melbourne and long term, he didn't want to live
- 44:07Speaker 1: in Brisbane. Now, Sharni posted on her Instagram story saying,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I can say from the bottom of my heart that
- 44:12Speaker 1: I've never had so much love and respect for another human. Now,
- 44:16Speaker 1: it sounded like they were on very friendly terms, but
- 44:18Speaker 1: speculation started to grow that Tommy was the reason for
- 44:23Speaker 1: the feud between Khloe and Shani because three weeks after
- 44:26Speaker 1: the breakup, a photo emerged of Shani meeting Khloe's baby, Artie.
- 44:30Speaker 1: And this was the first time they'd posted publicly with
- 44:33Speaker 1: one another. And this really strengthened the rumour that their
- 44:37Speaker 1: fight had something to do with Tommy. It surprises me
- 44:40Speaker 1: when looking back that three months later, Sharni met a
- 44:44Speaker 1: DJ from the Sunshine Coast called Jacob Tompkins. Yeah, I
- 44:47Speaker 1: can't believe it happened so quickly. Yeah, that just seems like,
- 44:50Speaker 1: I don't know if it's to do with COVID or what,
- 44:53Speaker 1: but that just seems like really different timing. So as
- 44:56Speaker 1: well as DJing, Jacob was also a part-time model. and
- 45:00Speaker 1: three years Sharni's junior. We'd never really seen her date younger.
- 45:03Speaker 2: No.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Because they're still together now. Maybe she needed to go
- 45:07Speaker 1: for a younger guy.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Well, she's got good taste. Yes, he's very cute. So
- 45:11Speaker 1: they instantly hit it off and they started dating and
- 45:14Speaker 1: he ended up appearing in a handful of Sharni's vlogs.
- 45:17Speaker 1: I can't say that I know Jacob like I know
- 45:20Speaker 1: Jonathan Sauer because this is when Sharni really took a
- 45:23Speaker 1: step back from filming and she put all of her
- 45:26Speaker 1: effort into building her swimwear brand Silk Swim. So she
- 45:30Speaker 1: enlisted the help of Chloe Zepp and Hannah Orville to
- 45:33Speaker 1: model alongside her in the first campaign. And not surprisingly,
- 45:37Speaker 1: the first launch sold out in just minutes. But Shani
- 45:41Speaker 1: was very clever because she knew that in order to
- 45:44Speaker 1: have longevity in the business, she couldn't just rely on
- 45:47Speaker 1: her name. So she started to build a brand that
- 45:50Speaker 1: could stand alone without her being the face of it.
- 45:53Speaker 1: So with her second drop, she wanted to ensure that
- 45:55Speaker 1: the line was inclusive and that all women felt like
- 45:58Speaker 1: they were reflected in it, which was pretty revolutionary for
- 46:01Speaker 1: the time. Now, five years on, this business has grown
- 46:04Speaker 1: from strength to strength. And just recently, she hit 100,000
- 46:08Speaker 1: followers on Silk Swim's Instagram account. Sadly, we haven't seen
- 46:12Speaker 1: a YouTube video from Shani since 2022. But after listening
- 46:17Speaker 1: to our series, Sharni has declared she misses her followers
- 46:21Speaker 1: and she misses sharing about her life. Whilst a YouTube
- 46:25Speaker 1: return doesn't appear to be on the horizon, Sharni said
- 46:28Speaker 1: she will be sharing more about her life on TikTok.
- 46:31Speaker 1: And I can't wait because after going through this whole series,
- 46:37Speaker 1: I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Sharni's content. I missed her. Yeah.
- 46:41Speaker 1: And she just seems like one of those old friends.
- 46:43Speaker 1: that maybe you haven't caught up for coffee with for
- 46:45Speaker 1: a while, but you'd really like to. Yeah, I would
- 46:48Speaker 1: highly recommend people going back and re-watching some of her
- 46:51Speaker 1: old videos because she is just so natural at speaking
- 46:55Speaker 1: to the camera. I feel like I should have a
- 46:57Speaker 1: thesis in Shani Grumman by now because I have put
- 47:00Speaker 1: this deep dive together. That is where we are going
- 47:03Speaker 1: to leave you though. Thank you so much for listening
- 47:06Speaker 1: to this deep dive series. If you have enjoyed it,

- 47:11Speaker 1: would be so appreciative if you left a five-star review too.
