- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The World's
- 0:09Speaker 1: of Bigeon podcast Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. We are now
- 0:19Speaker 1: tenants in our own building, literally, and we have credentials
- 0:22Speaker 1: that we have to wear. That says tenant.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I don't know if I know who you are. You
- 0:26Speaker 2: know who I am, but I think that's I watched
- 0:28Speaker 2: the revolution.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You know, well, my ancestry, I'm most here. We got it,
- 0:35Speaker 1: you know what in the Conqueror.
- 0:36Speaker 2: That's my as of right now. Counting boogie in just
- 0:40Speaker 2: digs this hundred so that so you've added one hundred
- 0:42Speaker 2: plus targets that far from last year. I know you
- 0:45Speaker 2: think I'm doing pretty fair.
- 0:47Speaker 1: All of a sudden you bring stats out. I'm like,
- 0:48Speaker 1: that's a really good one though.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Okay, so it sounds so surprised.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Usually he teas it up and he's like, I just
- 0:53Speaker 4: want you all and I did a little research today.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I've got a.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Stat You're going to make fun of me right now
- 0:57Speaker 2: when you deserve to make fun of you, because I'm
- 0:59Speaker 2: going to be hypocritical. It's not about the best fifture period.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's building a team, not collecting talent. Is that what
- 1:05Speaker 1: you're saying?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Because Fred, in this show, we had to point out
- 1:07Speaker 2: all the things that aren't as good as you think
- 1:09Speaker 2: they are about pat teams.
- 1:10Speaker 1: In football history easily.
- 1:12Speaker 5: Easily.
- 1:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I think the thirteen Seahawks that won the Super
- 1:15Speaker 6: Bowl and then came back with basically the same team
- 1:17Speaker 6: in fourteen, and then the Patriots.
- 1:19Speaker 1: And that that's your youth talking.
- 1:22Speaker 3: We're dismissed. I think that's your youth talking over a
- 1:24Speaker 3: decade of child This.
- 1:26Speaker 7: Is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:30Speaker 1: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com. All right, welcome
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Jillette Stadium,
- 1:39Speaker 1: but more importantly, it's the first day of mandatory mini camp.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So we're going to talk about what we're going to
- 1:46Speaker 1: be looking at later today, and then after practice, you
- 1:50Speaker 1: guys are going to have a wrap up, a little
- 1:52Speaker 1: short video wrap up of what you saw. So it's
- 1:56Speaker 1: kind of like a h Patriots Unfiltered plus today after dark. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 1: pre practice ship.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like a little sandwich, yeah right, I know,
- 2:06Speaker 3: this is the bread.
- 2:07Speaker 4: And then Yeah, the only real question is how are
- 2:09Speaker 4: we going to get from this room right here out
- 2:12Speaker 4: to the stadium or out to the field, which is
- 2:14Speaker 4: about fifty feet that way.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But we're gonna have to go through a gauntlet. Well cages, no,
- 2:19Speaker 1: but dogs on the contes on level one? Do they
- 2:24Speaker 1: open the gate so you can just walk through there?
- 2:26Speaker 1: It was last week.
- 2:28Speaker 2: That's the we're in the different fields.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah, we're on the lower fields.
- 2:32Speaker 8: Lower.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Once you're on that field, you can just walk down,
- 2:35Speaker 1: hopefing we can just walk out.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm hoping that it's this is not blocked.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Though it's blocked. You can't walk to the over there anymore.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Well, yeah, we're going to figure it out. Helicopter it out.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe maybe we just have friend come with us,
- 2:49Speaker 2: and Fred says, do you know who I am is?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Anyway?
- 2:51Speaker 3: Awesome? Thank you so much for doing this.
- 2:53Speaker 1: All Right, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's Deuce, it's me,
- 2:56Speaker 1: it's Matt and the booth and uh so what are
- 3:00Speaker 1: we going to be looking at with practice today? Who's there? Yeah,
- 3:04Speaker 1: start with that.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Mike Reese had a report, Mike GeSe had report. Maybe
- 3:07Speaker 4: we might see Gabe as perhaps like to see that.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Morgan Moses last saw him last week leaving practice, So
- 3:16Speaker 4: you know, Kayshan Boodi, those are probably the big three.
- 3:20Speaker 1: A report kind of yeah, Reese reported that they're expected
- 3:25Speaker 1: to be there.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, according to Rochi, So what's it?
- 3:33Speaker 1: What's it look like? You know kind of the usage.
- 3:35Speaker 4: I mean, those are the things you start getting into
- 3:36Speaker 4: the minutia, like well what order are they going through
- 3:38Speaker 4: the lines?
- 3:39Speaker 1: And and you know, is Booty right back in there?
- 3:41Speaker 4: And and getting reps when they do some little scrimmagey stuff.
- 3:44Speaker 4: So yeah, there'll be there'll be some things to watch,
- 3:46Speaker 4: But I think it all starts with.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Just the attendants. That's the biggest piece.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Is everybody here, you know, get a status check on
- 3:52Speaker 4: on some of the health guys.
- 3:53Speaker 1: How are they doing?
- 3:54Speaker 4: But I mean they've had pretty good attendants so far.
- 3:56Speaker 4: I mean most of the issues have not really been injury.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I don't think they've been more tract or that kind
- 4:00Speaker 4: of stuff.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So is the only real one. I should say that
- 4:04Speaker 1: Lomu signed his contract yesterday.
- 4:07Speaker 6: It's a difference between who's here and who's participating. You know,
- 4:11Speaker 6: Gonzales might be here, but is he doing anything? Is
- 4:15Speaker 6: he holding in, you know that that sort of thing.
- 4:18Speaker 6: So I think that would be interesting for him and
- 4:21Speaker 6: Kishon Booty as well as Okay, they might physically be
- 4:26Speaker 6: in uniform and out on the field, but when the
- 4:28Speaker 6: real stuff starts, are they actually participating or are they
- 4:31Speaker 6: on their own program? So we've seen I would say
- 4:35Speaker 6: more of that in the NFL than true holdouts at
- 4:38Speaker 6: this point.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Is the soft holdout or the hold in?
- 4:41Speaker 1: And you know the difference between these practices and what
- 4:44Speaker 1: we've had so far, as those are voluntary, this is mandatory.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So if you're not here, theoretically you're supposed to be fine,
- 4:53Speaker 1: but I don't know if that ever happens, but you
- 4:56Speaker 1: are required to be here if you're on the team.
- 5:00Speaker 1: That's paulsing of that.
- 5:01Speaker 4: There isn't this huge difference between mini camp and OTAs,
- 5:04Speaker 4: which we've seen OTAs, But I would be curious to
- 5:06Speaker 4: know when you are expected to have the full team
- 5:09Speaker 4: here from a coaching perspective, what might be different in
- 5:12Speaker 4: terms of.
- 5:12Speaker 1: What you know.
- 5:13Speaker 4: This is a period where everyone's supposed to be here,
- 5:15Speaker 4: So do we take specific strides during the mini camp
- 5:18Speaker 4: to install important things? You know, like what what is
- 5:21Speaker 4: the from the coaching point of view, this is mandatory.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I know on the field that looks similar to us.
- 5:25Speaker 4: They're not playing real football there, but you know, doing
- 5:27Speaker 4: some scrimmaging that stuff. But what is different about it
- 5:30Speaker 4: on the inside that we don't really get to see
- 5:33Speaker 4: you know, Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I don't think anything.
- 5:36Speaker 6: Yeah, you're saying, like, do they go backwards and kind
- 5:38Speaker 6: of start why why have it?
- 5:41Speaker 1: Why have it wait to do certain things until this day?
- 5:45Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a good question. I think that they have it.
- 5:49Speaker 6: They could do that to have check ins with the
- 5:51Speaker 6: players and make sure everybody's here and everybody's healthy and
- 5:53Speaker 6: everybody's you know, count.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It's one time that it's mandatory that your whole team
- 5:58Speaker 2: meets in the season.
- 6:00Speaker 6: For us, I just like it because it's three straight
- 6:01Speaker 6: days of practice that we get to watch. So we're
- 6:03Speaker 6: not just like parachuting in on a Tuesday and it's
- 6:07Speaker 6: like then we go a week without seeing anything and
- 6:09Speaker 6: who knows what happens between then and you know point
- 6:12Speaker 6: so having the consecutive days of practice kind of like
- 6:16Speaker 6: training camp. There's you see the build of like, Okay,
- 6:19Speaker 6: this guy really is making a push up the depth chart.
- 6:22Speaker 6: This guy is you know, doing this or whatever, and
- 6:25Speaker 6: you kind of start to see it as was that
- 6:27Speaker 6: just a one offer? Was that actually what we're building
- 6:30Speaker 6: up towards here.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like the offensive line stuff we talked about
- 6:33Speaker 2: last week. You might see, like the one day of OTAs,
- 6:36Speaker 2: that someone is that left guard, but then when you
- 6:39Speaker 2: see three days in a row, you see, oh, well
- 6:40Speaker 2: he was at right guard that day, center that day.
- 6:44Speaker 2: But I do like Freddy's theory of you know, maybe
- 6:47Speaker 2: they do wait till the mini camp to do something
- 6:50Speaker 2: specific in terms of installation, knowing that everybody's going to
- 6:53Speaker 2: be there, but the guys that are missing OTAs are
- 6:56Speaker 2: generally veterans that don't need to be there for the installation.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's fair. I just you know, interesting. I just
- 7:01Speaker 1: wonder what their perspective on.
- 7:03Speaker 4: I mean, still, as we're watching it, it's not easy
- 7:06Speaker 4: to see that many differences. But I like the point
- 7:08Speaker 4: about some days where somebody might just not be there
- 7:10Speaker 4: and someone else is getting some filling rats versus.
- 7:14Speaker 2: But like Ben Brown, I think Evan brought up last week.
- 7:17Speaker 2: We saw him on the first ota at center, we
- 7:21Speaker 2: saw him, and the second ota that we got to
- 7:23Speaker 2: see he was at left guard. So that might just
- 7:26Speaker 2: be what he you know, depending on we saw a
- 7:29Speaker 2: Monday practice or a Tuesday practice, or a Tuesday practice
- 7:31Speaker 2: as opposed to a Wednesday. Now you get to see
- 7:34Speaker 2: three days in a row, so yeah, probably see these
- 7:36Speaker 2: guys cycle through in different spots, rotation, you know, changes up.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Yeah, we're also you know, I don't know how much
- 7:43Speaker 6: he's done. But the first time we saw aj Brown
- 7:46Speaker 6: was his very first Patriots practice, so he didn't do much.
- 7:49Speaker 6: So now once we get into these next couple of days,
- 7:51Speaker 6: does his participation ramp up at all?
- 7:54Speaker 3: And you know what's out look like?
- 7:55Speaker 6: I think he did four reps of team the entire
- 7:59Speaker 6: first practice and kind of was just running routes sooner
- 8:02Speaker 6: just to get his feet wet. So hopefully there's some build.
- 8:05Speaker 6: But that's what I like the most about Mini camp
- 8:07Speaker 6: and training camp too, is that you just you see
- 8:09Speaker 6: every day so you can kind of see what's happening
- 8:13Speaker 6: in succession and that way, there there's no well, why
- 8:16Speaker 6: is Ben Brown at left guard today?
- 8:18Speaker 3: What does that mean?
- 8:18Speaker 1: You know?
- 8:19Speaker 3: That sort of thing.
- 8:20Speaker 1: The other thing we should note is Vrabel will be
- 8:23Speaker 1: live around twelve forty five. So the way we'll end
- 8:26Speaker 1: this show is when he goes live, we'll say goodbye
- 8:30Speaker 1: and the show will go to him live and that's
- 8:33Speaker 1: that's you know, we'll sign off with his live press conference.
- 8:36Speaker 1: That'll be the last thing you see.
- 8:39Speaker 4: And on training camp practices are been released this morning
- 8:42Speaker 4: as well dates.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I want to get on down here for some joint practices.
- 8:45Speaker 1: We've got thirteen open practice dates and do we have them?
- 8:50Speaker 1: Do we want to read them out?
- 8:51Speaker 6: How the first day of school is the twenty fourth,
- 8:53Speaker 6: so that's a veteran report day.
- 8:55Speaker 1: But that's not an open practice day.
- 8:57Speaker 6: That is not an open practice day. The twenty fifth,
- 8:59Speaker 6: that Saturday, is the first open.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Practice, right, so, unlike you know a long time, open
- 9:06Speaker 1: practice started starts on a Saturday. This year, usually it's
- 9:09Speaker 1: a Thursday or Friday. It's a Saturday, which is different.
- 9:13Speaker 1: But the twenty fifth of July is the first open
- 9:16Speaker 1: practice that fans can go to. And then there's thirteen total,
- 9:21Speaker 1: including two joint practices with the Colts. Well I'm sorry,
- 9:26Speaker 1: one joint practice with the Colts and two joint practices
- 9:29Speaker 1: with the Eagles.
- 9:31Speaker 4: August eleventh for the Colts and the nineteenth and twentieth
- 9:34Speaker 4: with the Eagles.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Which will be the represent the last day that fans
- 9:39Speaker 2: are welcome a practice.
- 9:42Speaker 6: But the best, I think the best thing that fans
- 9:45Speaker 6: can have access to, Like it's free, you can come down.
- 9:48Speaker 6: You see two really good teams in the case of
- 9:50Speaker 6: the Patriots and the Eagles. Maybe we'll see about the Colts.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And they were good last year until they lost their quarterback.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Yeah, and you see them go toe to toe. It's
- 10:00Speaker 6: pretty cool. It's a great atmosphere.
- 10:01Speaker 1: It's a great take, great take.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Still working on trying to get some cover for the
- 10:06Speaker 4: stands over there. That's my my organizational goal is to get.
- 10:09Speaker 2: You're working on them.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my my goal, to get you made the
- 10:13Speaker 1: people well you know the metal that Yeah, you know,
- 10:17Speaker 1: we're dabbling a little bit. We have had some incidents.
- 10:21Speaker 4: I mean we have incident every single year where someone
- 10:23Speaker 4: passes out from heat exhaustion.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It is right under the sun.
- 10:26Speaker 4: So you know, I think that's something that the organization considers.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Cover up those stands because.
- 10:30Speaker 1: You mean the fans stands, the size yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 1: just get some cover for them. People are dying.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Like sometimes we look down on those fans and I'm like,
- 10:38Speaker 4: it's a great take. But I always tell people go
- 10:40Speaker 4: on the hill, find some shade. That's where it's cool.
- 10:42Speaker 1: There's not much shade on the hill anymore. It's it's
- 10:45Speaker 1: not I think, you know, all those big trees are gone.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I've seen enough times where you see the Foxboro Fire
- 10:49Speaker 4: Department we let somebody out, like, let's not. I mean
- 10:53Speaker 4: they have cooling stations and water, of course, but I
- 10:55Speaker 4: think they need to catch there like anything else.
- 10:58Speaker 2: You need to be smart.
- 10:59Speaker 1: People get excited, they hydrated, they forget to drink water.
- 11:02Speaker 6: Yeah, it gets hot, there's no doubt about it. Yeah
- 11:05Speaker 6: it's ninety plus.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Thanks. Today is a beautiful day. Gorgeous, gorgeous. Yeah, to
- 11:11Speaker 1: be be fun. I like these little check ins.
- 11:13Speaker 4: I mean this is like the last like it feels
- 11:15Speaker 4: like the breakup party before summer vacation. So you get
- 11:18Speaker 4: a last like look at everything and then you know,
- 11:20Speaker 4: gear up for training camp and then it's full go
- 11:23Speaker 4: but excited.
- 11:24Speaker 1: You know, no travel. Last year went to Minnesota. It
- 11:26Speaker 1: was fun.
- 11:26Speaker 4: But two sets of joint practices here, I'm not sure
- 11:29Speaker 4: I remember. I think that happened maybe once before in
- 11:32Speaker 4: my time here. But those are to me the best days.
- 11:35Speaker 4: And you know you learned so much and to get
- 11:37Speaker 4: to see Colts they got some good players and the Eagles,
- 11:39Speaker 4: of course, it'll be it'll.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Be interesting when the Eagles are in town, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: with the whole A J. Brown thing, and you know
- 11:44Speaker 1: what that dynamic will be like, I'm sure all cameras
- 11:47Speaker 1: will be on him and Jalen Hurts. Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 1: really cool, really cool.
- 11:53Speaker 6: Es offishally, I like the road joint practices, but that's
- 11:56Speaker 6: just a me thing to enjoy those.
- 11:57Speaker 1: That was fun. Last year a football Minnesota. It's just
- 12:01Speaker 1: it's you like being on the on the road that
- 12:04Speaker 1: long for that culminating in a game that doesn't count.
- 12:09Speaker 1: The best last year the worst.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Playing the role of Paul like last year in Minnesota
- 12:14Speaker 6: and the hotel is like what literally like a stone's
- 12:17Speaker 6: throw from the practice feels you could nearly walk right
- 12:20Speaker 6: back and forth.
- 12:21Speaker 1: That was nice. But the one that ended in in
- 12:24Speaker 1: Uh with the Raiders. Yeah, like by the time that
- 12:28Speaker 1: was over, like players were dying. It was just like
- 12:35Speaker 1: the land, can we just get out of here? It's
- 12:39Speaker 1: too long. It's tough though. That was hot.
- 12:41Speaker 4: I mean Minnesota was beautiful. I mean everyone was so
- 12:43Speaker 4: nice there. It was a good, really good setting. Tennessee
- 12:46Speaker 4: a few years ago was awesome. I do enjoy getting
- 12:48Speaker 4: to see It's my only chance to get to see
- 12:50Speaker 4: other places, so I do enjoy them.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But there's something nice too about just being like, we're
- 12:53Speaker 1: not gonna have to go anywhere this summer.
- 12:55Speaker 4: You know, the team will be here, we'll get a
- 12:56Speaker 4: look at two different sets of joint practices.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It'll be it'll be good. I agree. Okay, I do
- 13:02Speaker 1: love it though. All right, Well back to today. Back
- 13:05Speaker 1: to today, So attendance is high up on the list
- 13:08Speaker 1: for sure. I would imagine configuration of the offensive line
- 13:13Speaker 1: is pretty high up there.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Yeah, Vera Tucker probably still working in I mean I think,
- 13:16Speaker 4: give me, in the walkthrough portions, you'll see him getting
- 13:19Speaker 4: in there at left guard, and then I think we've
- 13:21Speaker 4: seen him beginning some drills. But then as the practice
- 13:23Speaker 4: wears on, it seems like you see less and less
- 13:25Speaker 4: of him. So, you know, we saw a lot of
- 13:27Speaker 4: guys getting managed last year. I mean, I remember that
- 13:30Speaker 4: was one of the most striking things to me about
- 13:32Speaker 4: the transition kind of to the Mike Rabel regime of
- 13:35Speaker 4: just you know, guys would come out miss warm ups
- 13:37Speaker 4: and they would just kind of come out and go
- 13:39Speaker 4: right into practice or there you know, will be certain
- 13:41Speaker 4: days where you just didn't see guys, which I don't
- 13:44Speaker 4: know how foreign that was for Bill. I think there
- 13:45Speaker 4: were probably veteran days off and things like that, but
- 13:47Speaker 4: to me it seemed a little bit more pronounced last
- 13:49Speaker 4: year with you know, guys like Moses.
- 13:52Speaker 1: So we'll we'll see how they managed it this.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I would say the difference. I think you made a
- 13:55Speaker 2: good point, Like some of those like you know, half
- 13:58Speaker 2: hour forty five minutes into practice, a guy would come
- 14:01Speaker 2: up the stairs and jump right into the drills. I
- 14:03Speaker 2: don't really remember that very often. Yeah, Now, definitely the
- 14:07Speaker 2: veteran days off is not you know, I think Pete
- 14:10Speaker 2: Carroll did it. I think Bill died it. You know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: so I think most coaches probably do some of that stuff.
- 14:15Speaker 2: But it was like you'd see like Deramandre Stevenson in
- 14:18Speaker 2: a random the middle of the training camp come up
- 14:21Speaker 2: the stairs, you know, well into practice, yeah, and then
- 14:25Speaker 2: just jump right in.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 6: Yeah, that that was unique, and it's interesting. I think
- 14:29Speaker 6: he was asked about if Rabel was at some point
- 14:31Speaker 6: last year and just talked about you know, they literally
- 14:34Speaker 6: track the sports science people track like how many steps
- 14:38Speaker 6: and how many like you know, exertions you're doing in
- 14:41Speaker 6: terms of running and sprinting and all this different type
- 14:43Speaker 6: of stuff. So when they get into positional drills, if
- 14:46Speaker 6: they can eliminate that, which is probably the not important
- 14:49Speaker 6: as important as them participating in team and that's what
- 14:52Speaker 6: they do. And they kind of get stretched out down
- 14:55Speaker 6: on the lower field and then they walk up and
- 14:57Speaker 6: they go right into it. But he just mentioned that
- 14:59Speaker 6: they kind of almost like reps. They count these things
- 15:02Speaker 6: of like how often are you going full speed? How
- 15:05Speaker 6: often are you doing this or doing that? And so
- 15:07Speaker 6: they they decided that it's sometimes better to take them
- 15:11Speaker 6: out of the beginning part of practice so that they
- 15:13Speaker 6: can do the team stuff.
- 15:14Speaker 4: I like that exertions, how many exertions they did. I'm
- 15:16Speaker 4: going to use that like on the weekend, like exertions
- 15:19Speaker 4: I've done.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Too many the last time you had an exertion those
- 15:24Speaker 1: I had an exertion last night. So I have to
- 15:31Speaker 1: I have to redo the I have to redo the
- 15:34Speaker 1: joints on my on my walkway, you know, because the
- 15:38Speaker 1: company that did it did a terrible job. So I
- 15:40Speaker 1: took it all out and I got this stuff from
- 15:42Speaker 1: Germany called romex Easy, and all you do is wet
- 15:47Speaker 1: everything down and you sweep it in, smooth it out,
- 15:51Speaker 1: and it comes out perfect. So yesterday was my window
- 15:55Speaker 1: because you really need to dry days afterwards, and it's
- 15:58Speaker 1: not you know, from last night. It's not going to
- 16:00Speaker 1: rain again till maybe Wednesday afternoon. So that was my window.
- 16:04Speaker 1: So I got home last night and I got that
- 16:05Speaker 1: all done. Did your exertion? Did my exertion?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Sorry, he's exerted.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Didn't realize that word. But it's going to be such
- 16:11Speaker 3: a buzzin.
- 16:12Speaker 5: No.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I love to like just like qualify. I've done a
- 16:14Speaker 1: bunch of exertions today already, honey, I don't.
- 16:16Speaker 6: Well, you can wear you can wear sports bra too
- 16:19Speaker 6: like they do, and they can track all your but
- 16:22Speaker 6: it's kind of crazy like they it's preemptive, Like they
- 16:24Speaker 6: can literally predict like this guy has put too much
- 16:28Speaker 6: on his body and if we keep pushing him then
- 16:30Speaker 6: like he's more susceptible to an injury somewhere you know,
- 16:34Speaker 6: along the way, and they can they can manage those
- 16:36Speaker 6: types of things.
- 16:36Speaker 3: It's kind of crazy. It's cool.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Cool. So the other thing I'll be looking at and
- 16:41Speaker 1: it might mean something or it might mean nothing. And
- 16:44Speaker 1: that's the order in which the wide receivers do their
- 16:48Speaker 1: unit drills, like just you know, catching balls. And in
- 16:52Speaker 1: the past, usually the number one receiver goes first and
- 16:55Speaker 1: it's followed down the line. Now we know in the
- 16:58Speaker 1: O T. A. A. J. Said I don't want to
- 17:01Speaker 1: be first. I haven't earned that yet. So will he
- 17:05Speaker 1: be the first in line to do these things or not?
- 17:08Speaker 1: And if he isn't, then everything just is just you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: thrown out of thrown out the windows. So now you
- 17:14Speaker 1: don't know who is. But let's let's see if they
- 17:17Speaker 1: follow history and the number one receiver goes first in
- 17:20Speaker 1: all these drills.
- 17:22Speaker 6: You want to set a tone in all serious I
- 17:24Speaker 6: think you should like you should like like Diggs used
- 17:26Speaker 6: to do that.
- 17:27Speaker 1: You know, Diggs would be at the heart of the
- 17:29Speaker 1: line and people getting up first.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and he would.
- 17:32Speaker 6: He would do the drill and you four time pro bowler,
- 17:36Speaker 6: that's the way it's supposed to be done, and you know,
- 17:38Speaker 6: followed by everybody else. But I thought that that was
- 17:40Speaker 6: the one thing that Diggs, you know, not the most
- 17:42Speaker 6: important thing, but one thing that he did bring to
- 17:44Speaker 6: the table was that sort of intensity like even to
- 17:48Speaker 6: practice where you know, he was setting a bar and
- 17:51Speaker 6: he was setting a tone of this is how we
- 17:53Speaker 6: practice and we're not going to take reps off and
- 17:56Speaker 6: this sort of thing. And from what I've heard, AJ
- 17:58Speaker 6: Brown is a similar kind of cat, So maybe he
- 18:00Speaker 6: does the same way.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He kind of knows what he's doing a little bit more.
- 18:04Speaker 9: Now.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yes, I'll be looking at it doing that. I'll be
- 18:06Speaker 1: looking at that.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I can still see Mac Collins just jumping up
- 18:09Speaker 4: there first though, feeling like I did.
- 18:11Speaker 2: That would be my pick, just to clarify. Like AJ
- 18:18Speaker 2: Brown talked last week when he when he did speak
- 18:20Speaker 2: to us, they asked him to sort of go out
- 18:23Speaker 2: front and lead the stretching, which I don't know if
- 18:26Speaker 2: you've noticed, but they have four or five players are
- 18:30Speaker 2: facing the team, you know, de facto captains, and Robert
- 18:34Speaker 2: Splaine has been one of them, I think in both
- 18:36Speaker 2: of the practices that we watch, but there's been different guys,
- 18:39Speaker 2: and I based on the way A. J. Brown said it,
- 18:41Speaker 2: that's what I think he was talking. Oh Okay, they
- 18:44Speaker 2: asked him to do that and he said, no, I haven't.
- 18:46Speaker 2: I haven't earned that yet, you know, whatever. But in
- 18:49Speaker 2: terms of the lines, I think it's been like Douglas
- 18:52Speaker 2: has been that guy who's been around the longest. You know,
- 18:56Speaker 2: Booty and Douglas I think are the longest tenured receivers,
- 18:59Speaker 2: right yep. And Booty wasn't there, So I think it's
- 19:02Speaker 2: been Douglas for the most part. I wouldn't be surprised
- 19:05Speaker 2: to see Matt Collins and I you know, it wouldn't
- 19:07Speaker 2: surprise me at all, Fred if you get your your
- 19:08Speaker 2: wish and aj Brown is doing what Diggs did last year.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, But isn't that usually the way it is?
- 19:14Speaker 1: It's it's that's it's the order of the depth chart.
- 19:17Speaker 3: A lot of the time, Yeah, a lot of the time.
- 19:19Speaker 3: It depends on I think.
- 19:20Speaker 6: So sometimes it gets a little loose, you know, and
- 19:23Speaker 6: they just kind of all just go through it the
- 19:24Speaker 6: way they go through it. But for the most part,
- 19:27Speaker 6: I would say it's more so with the receivers and
- 19:29Speaker 6: other positions.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Running backs sometimes yeah.
- 19:31Speaker 6: Like corners, I don't really you don't always see like
- 19:33Speaker 6: Gonzo and Carlton Davis at the front of the line,
- 19:36Speaker 6: like sometimes they just kind of go through it.
- 19:37Speaker 4: But for the most part, I think for me, I'm
- 19:39Speaker 4: interested a little bit in the cornerbacks today.
- 19:42Speaker 1: That's something I want to watch. Just you know, they've
- 19:45Speaker 1: been stacking these.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Guys undrafted Day three picks. They've got a bunch of them. Now,
- 19:49Speaker 4: you know, you added you know, the front tee, the
- 19:52Speaker 4: latest one. But now, can any of these guys play,
- 19:55Speaker 4: or any of these guys below the top three? And
- 19:57Speaker 4: I mean, I know Charles Woods and Ville have played,
- 20:01Speaker 4: so they're veterans. I mean they can fill in for you.
- 20:03Speaker 4: But any of these other young guys did any potential there?
- 20:07Speaker 1: I mean, I.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Think, you know, I think offensive line and sometimes defensive
- 20:11Speaker 4: backs are where maybe you get a surprise more common
- 20:14Speaker 4: than some of the other positions. I just think it'd
- 20:17Speaker 4: be a great boost for this team if one of
- 20:19Speaker 4: these young guys that they've spent a Day three pick on,
- 20:22Speaker 4: you know, not high expectations, but you know, there's just
- 20:25Speaker 4: such a volume of players. Could someone emerge, Could someone
- 20:28Speaker 4: do something unexpected from that group? You know, be it
- 20:31Speaker 4: Prunty or minor or you know, Dial still rehabbing the
- 20:34Speaker 4: injury from last year. You know, Crossley's been around a
- 20:36Speaker 4: little bit. They got a couple undrafted guys too. There's
- 20:38Speaker 4: just a bunch of guys. I don't know if Gonzalez
- 20:41Speaker 4: is going to be playing. I don't know if Davis
- 20:43Speaker 4: is going to be playing out there, maybe even Marcus,
- 20:45Speaker 4: So they're all going to have some opportunities to play.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Does that translate into some kind of I.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Really hope you know those two are because I want
- 20:53Speaker 1: to get back to the days where practice was really
- 20:58Speaker 1: really competitive defense VUSA offense, you know, and that starts
- 21:02Speaker 1: with Drake May and probably Gonzales, you know, making it
- 21:07Speaker 1: that way, yeah, you know, and every rep is important
- 21:10Speaker 1: and you want to win every rep, and there's back
- 21:12Speaker 1: and forth, and there's trash talking and maybe once in
- 21:15Speaker 1: a while a scuffle, but like because you know, iron
- 21:20Speaker 1: sharpens iron, right, and you want to make those practices
- 21:25Speaker 1: in such a way that when you come to the
- 21:26Speaker 1: game it's fun.
- 21:28Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Well, I mean just to set it up today, I mean,
- 21:30Speaker 4: if that's what the secondary looks like. And now you
- 21:33Speaker 4: have Drake May, third year, second year in the system.
- 21:36Speaker 4: AJ Brown's in the house. Now, maybe Booty's going to
- 21:38Speaker 4: be playing a little bit. I don't know, but you
- 21:40Speaker 4: know he has the pieces around him that and you
- 21:43Speaker 4: guys can probably tell me better that you know, when
- 21:45Speaker 4: Tom Brady all of a sudden went into a practice
- 21:48Speaker 4: and the defense is shorthanded and they're without their top
- 21:50Speaker 4: three corners, I would hope that he's going to unleash
- 21:54Speaker 4: something upon them that they're not able to handle.
- 21:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Do we see that kind of precision and coordination from
- 22:01Speaker 4: the offense at this stage in the game. Maybe not,
- 22:03Speaker 4: but I'd be encouraged to see them go out there
- 22:05Speaker 4: and be like, all right, you got Channing Canada out
- 22:07Speaker 4: there going, you know, trying to cover a J.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Brown, Like light them up right, let's see let's see
- 22:11Speaker 1: some positive strides from the offense a little bit.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yeah, what's that, Paul, I'm sorry? Is he on the Patriots?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yes? Undrafted? Yeah, okay.
- 22:22Speaker 6: I think the depth that you pointed out, though, do
- 22:25Speaker 6: so across the defense is probably one of the question
- 22:29Speaker 6: marks with the team moving forward really at all three levels.
- 22:32Speaker 6: You know, Like we've talked about edge multiple times at
- 22:36Speaker 6: this point and what's going to happen there. But even
- 22:39Speaker 6: like off ball linebacker, like yes, splain, you have Elis
- 22:41Speaker 6: and then maybe kJ Britt is like sort of in
- 22:44Speaker 6: his own category, and then you have everybody else. The
- 22:47Speaker 6: Chad Mumas and the Obizors and those guys like these,
- 22:51Speaker 6: they need to build some depth out in the on defense.
- 22:53Speaker 6: You know, if they lose some of those frontline players
- 22:56Speaker 6: for a period of time, then you don't know right
- 22:59Speaker 6: now who's who's going to be the Jack Gibbons of
- 23:02Speaker 6: the linebacker group.
- 23:03Speaker 1: And it's a great point.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Like I've been writing the you know, we're doing our
- 23:06Speaker 4: training camp previews positionally, and I do the defensive side,
- 23:09Speaker 4: and that feels like what I'm writing every single time
- 23:12Speaker 4: is if the top guys are okay, they're good, but
- 23:16Speaker 4: really across the defense, to Evans's point, as soon as
- 23:20Speaker 4: you pull this little string out, now you're going down
- 23:22Speaker 4: into the unknown territories.
- 23:24Speaker 6: Even I like at safety, like we know Bayern and
- 23:26Speaker 6: Wotzon are going to be the primary safeties. Is it
- 23:28Speaker 6: del Pettis, is it Mike Brown? Like who's the third guy?
- 23:31Speaker 6: You know, where's the depth there on that position? I
- 23:34Speaker 6: think all over the defense you could you could point
- 23:36Speaker 6: that out. I actually feel better about their depth on offense,
- 23:38Speaker 6: even though like Julian Hill obviously getting hurt hurts that
- 23:41Speaker 6: a little bit, but I kind of feel like offensively
- 23:44Speaker 6: they have pretty good depth. It's defensively that you like
- 23:48Speaker 6: the the top eleven guys, but then once you start
- 23:50Speaker 6: to get down the depth charger.
- 23:51Speaker 1: That's what it is.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Because I feel like we said the same thing last year,
- 23:54Speaker 4: was like, you know, they've got some good players, they
- 23:55Speaker 4: just don't have a lot of depth. They haven't been
- 23:57Speaker 4: able to put their full team in place. And I
- 23:59Speaker 4: feel like fields maybe in the offense they do have
- 24:01Speaker 4: some of that, but it still feels like there's a
- 24:04Speaker 4: lot of questions on the defensive side of it. I mean,
- 24:06Speaker 4: and it takes time, Like I don't know if they
- 24:07Speaker 4: were going to be able to do the whole thing,
- 24:09Speaker 4: but you know, in two years, but it still feels
- 24:11Speaker 4: like they got a waste to go on the defense.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Offense. I'll be looking at some of that the areas
- 24:16Speaker 2: that I think depth in might may or may not
- 24:19Speaker 2: be a concern. But like we talked about tight end
- 24:22Speaker 2: a lot, you know with rare it and maybe you know,
- 24:25Speaker 2: going to get a bigger opportunity. But I also look
- 24:27Speaker 2: at that whole group of running backs, full backs, how
- 24:31Speaker 2: you characterize you know, all these different So we know
- 24:35Speaker 2: it's Stevenson and Henderson, but beyond those two are you,
- 24:39Speaker 2: is there like a traditional third down running back, you know,
- 24:43Speaker 2: is he like like last year at Antonio Gibson, you know,
- 24:47Speaker 2: with those to make those three is do you have
- 24:50Speaker 2: Lan Larrison, do you have one of the you know,
- 24:53Speaker 2: you know, one of the one of the rookies and Miller?
- 24:56Speaker 2: And does Jack Westover? Does he continue to play fullback?
- 25:01Speaker 2: Is he now more of an option at tight end?
- 25:04Speaker 2: That sort of full back tight ends that's a very
- 25:08Speaker 2: similar position. Those guys are tied. So that's one thing
- 25:12Speaker 2: I think you can start to see three days in
- 25:14Speaker 2: a row, where does this guy fit in and when
- 25:17Speaker 2: is he getting his reps? And then you can get
- 25:19Speaker 2: an idea of oh, okay, brock Lampy maybe not with
- 25:23Speaker 2: Reggie Gilliam here, but Lan Lanison maybe he is getting
- 25:26Speaker 2: an opportunity, you know. And then Westover might with Julian
- 25:30Speaker 2: Hillout be more of just a back to a regular
- 25:33Speaker 2: tight end. Those kinds of things I think you can
- 25:36Speaker 2: start to figure out in a mini camp.
- 25:38Speaker 6: Yeah, and do you carry three pure tight ends and
- 25:41Speaker 6: you'llium so then you're really carrying four guys in that
- 25:44Speaker 6: room or do you save that roster spot?
- 25:46Speaker 3: By CJ.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Dupree Taylor Arkin, like those guys maybe can be practice
- 25:50Speaker 6: squad players and elevated if they need to be during
- 25:53Speaker 6: the season, like that kind of fifty three man roster
- 25:56Speaker 6: stuff where you might be saving a roster spot by
- 26:00Speaker 6: carrying only Henry Rared and Gilliam, but you might have
- 26:04Speaker 6: some guys stash on the practice squad, Like how does
- 26:06Speaker 6: that that all work out? Because you need three running backs?
- 26:09Speaker 6: Like you're going to carry three running backs on the
- 26:11Speaker 6: active roster, I would think, but that that full back
- 26:14Speaker 6: position is now that you know Gilliam's on the team,
- 26:17Speaker 6: so that that becomes kind of a numbers crunch there
- 26:20Speaker 6: of how many pure tight ends do they keep up
- 26:23Speaker 6: behind Gilliam?
- 26:24Speaker 1: All right, so those are some of the things we'll
- 26:25Speaker 1: be looking at. What are the some of the things
- 26:27Speaker 1: you're interested in? Eight five five Pats five hundred is
- 26:30Speaker 1: the way to call podcasts at Patriots dot com. Is
- 26:34Speaker 1: the email address, So why don't we get to the
- 26:38Speaker 1: phone calls and emails. Just a reminder that about twelve
- 26:41Speaker 1: forty five Vrabel will be live. We will end the
- 26:45Speaker 1: show there and go to him live, so you can
- 26:47Speaker 1: just stay here and watch Rabel as we head out
- 26:51Speaker 1: to practice. So that's around twelve forty five. So let's
- 26:54Speaker 1: get to the phones. Christian, what's on your mind?
- 26:58Speaker 10: Hey you guys, guys, tell you guys, how you doing today?
- 27:03Speaker 5: Okay? Good?
- 27:04Speaker 10: So hey, as you head into mini campings then you know,
- 27:08Speaker 10: a training camp. Two things sort of dawned on me
- 27:11Speaker 10: questions that I had. One is yes, So from year
- 27:15Speaker 10: one to year two, a player, let's say Will Campbell,
- 27:19Speaker 10: will study tape, will try to refine himself and be better.
- 27:24Speaker 10: It's also the case build that defenses will study his
- 27:27Speaker 10: tape from last year, figure out his his you know, shortcomings,
- 27:31Speaker 10: and how to expose him. So the question one is
- 27:36Speaker 10: is it usual that the guy you know, like the
- 27:40Speaker 10: player will get better in year two? What are the
- 27:45Speaker 10: metrics that he outpaces the amount of uh, you know,
- 27:50Speaker 10: knowledge that the defense gains about him and begins expose
- 27:54Speaker 10: him in year two. The piggybacks on my second question.
- 27:58Speaker 10: So my second question is the definite.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I just want to say I think it
- 28:04Speaker 1: gets to a point like you're right, it's a cat
- 28:06Speaker 1: and mouse game, but it gets to a point like
- 28:07Speaker 1: talent wins. So if the guy's talented, then the adjustments
- 28:12Speaker 1: that the defense are making, he can overcome because he's
- 28:15Speaker 1: got the talent.
- 28:18Speaker 10: Right, Okay, And so that that's my first question about
- 28:21Speaker 10: Will Campbell. Who But how do you guys see that
- 28:23Speaker 10: metric lining up with some of the better guys that
- 28:26Speaker 10: we played last year that kind of exposed him outside
- 28:29Speaker 10: of the injury, that is. And then the second question is,
- 28:32Speaker 10: with that said, what would it take outside of an
- 28:35Speaker 10: injury to see someone like a Caleb Lomo have to
- 28:38Speaker 10: get on the outside and maybe push Will Campbell to
- 28:41Speaker 10: the inside. Thank you guys, I'll take it all.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Right, thanks.
- 28:44Speaker 6: Yeah, so far we've only seen other than rookie Minni camp,
- 28:47Speaker 6: we've only seen Lomu at right tackle. So maybe that
- 28:51Speaker 6: changes at some point in training camp if Will Campbell
- 28:53Speaker 6: isn't making that push that year two leap or whatever
- 28:57Speaker 6: you want to call it. But as of right now,
- 28:59Speaker 6: what we've seen Lomo has been on the which air
- 29:03Speaker 6: to Morgan Moses.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Would you say there's a much better chance that he
- 29:09Speaker 1: beats out Morgan Moses for right tackle then takes over
- 29:12Speaker 1: at left tackle.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Maybe yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 6: I mean it's hard to say now because we haven't
- 29:17Speaker 6: really seen them in pads or anything like that, but
- 29:20Speaker 6: maybe I think right now that's The plan as it
- 29:23Speaker 6: stands today is that Lomo's here to be a successor
- 29:27Speaker 6: to Morgan Moses, and whenever that happens, I you know,
- 29:29Speaker 6: we'll see when that happens. Maybe it happens organically and
- 29:32Speaker 6: there's an injury and he goes in.
- 29:35Speaker 3: For an injury.
- 29:35Speaker 6: But I think to the first question about Campbell, to me,
- 29:39Speaker 6: the best thing that you know, listening to a lot
- 29:42Speaker 6: of the offensive line people talk about him too after
- 29:45Speaker 6: the Super Bowl is coming up with more variety of
- 29:48Speaker 6: past sets and how he's attacking pass rushers because last year,
- 29:53Speaker 6: especially in the playoffs, and I don't know if this
- 29:55Speaker 6: was related to the injury or what, but he was
- 29:57Speaker 6: vertical setting a lot. So he's just coming out of
- 29:59Speaker 6: his stance and going straight backwards into the backfield and
- 30:03Speaker 6: it was creating those runways for bull rushers to just
- 30:06Speaker 6: get downhill on them and push him back into the quarterback.
- 30:09Speaker 3: So you know, there's different sets.
- 30:11Speaker 6: There's jump sets, there's forty fives, there's verticals, So like,
- 30:14Speaker 6: maybe there's more variety, and it might not be all
- 30:17Speaker 6: of one thing. It might be you know, I'm gonna
- 30:20Speaker 6: this time, I'm going to set out of forty five
- 30:22Speaker 6: and then next time I'm going to a vertical set,
- 30:23Speaker 6: and you just change up pitches and same with your hands,
- 30:26Speaker 6: Like sometimes you punch with two hands, sometimes you punch
- 30:29Speaker 6: with the outside, some pint you punch with the inside.
- 30:31Speaker 6: Sometimes you hook underneath, and like you do all these
- 30:33Speaker 6: different sort of like chess match things and moves to
- 30:36Speaker 6: keep pass rushers off balance. But younger guys, I don't
- 30:40Speaker 6: think have that toolbox yet. They haven't developed all those
- 30:44Speaker 6: different tricks. So a guy like well Campbell, you hope
- 30:48Speaker 6: that he's able to add more of that to his
- 30:51Speaker 6: more variety to his game so that they can't just
- 30:54Speaker 6: sit on one thing like those Seahawks pass rushers just
- 30:57Speaker 6: they knew that they were going to just be able
- 30:59Speaker 6: to go right through them. So like you have to
- 31:01Speaker 6: be able to change pitches and turn different ways and
- 31:03Speaker 6: things like that to kind of combat that so happens
- 31:07Speaker 6: with a lot of young guys that they get predictable,
- 31:09Speaker 6: Like people know what they're they're gonna see every single
- 31:12Speaker 6: time they drop back. So maybe Campbell, that that would
- 31:15Speaker 6: be to me where Campbell could improve the most other
- 31:17Speaker 6: than like physically, you know, putting on weights and stuff.
- 31:19Speaker 1: You know, we saw that as early as training camp
- 31:21Speaker 1: where he was just his drop was just too deep
- 31:24Speaker 1: and by the time he gets set, he's almost touching
- 31:27Speaker 1: the quarterback. That's not good.
- 31:29Speaker 6: Yeah, well, because you know, I think the biggest problem
- 31:31Speaker 6: is is like you start getting into the arm length thing,
- 31:33Speaker 6: and so like when you give that runway allows somebody
- 31:36Speaker 6: to kind of come down yell at him, and then
- 31:38Speaker 6: his arm is this and Campbell's arms aren't long enough.
- 31:41Speaker 6: So the first contact is established by the defender. So
- 31:44Speaker 6: now when you get into that anchor, like the anchor
- 31:47Speaker 6: is tardy because he's getting pushed back into the quarterback
- 31:50Speaker 6: and then dropping anchor. So that I think he needs
- 31:53Speaker 6: to be more aggressive. And I've listened to a lot
- 31:55Speaker 6: of other people say the same thing, where you know,
- 31:58Speaker 6: cause he has the length efficiency, if he's more aggressive
- 32:01Speaker 6: and he closes down that space instead of creating more
- 32:04Speaker 6: of it, then maybe he can go get guys.
- 32:06Speaker 1: And he's gonna have to rely on his athleticism in
- 32:09Speaker 1: his feet, you know, getting in position quicker and be
- 32:12Speaker 1: ready to and and he has that that is a strength,
- 32:15Speaker 1: that's the strength of his so use the strength. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:18Speaker 1: he's got he's got good feet.
- 32:20Speaker 4: I mean I think it's you know, Evan laid it out, well,
- 32:21Speaker 4: it's just hard to the nuance of that offensive line position.
- 32:24Speaker 1: So I'll just block the guy.
- 32:25Speaker 8: You know.
- 32:25Speaker 4: There's a lot that goes into it mentally too, so
- 32:28Speaker 4: you know, the strength is something Brabel talked about a
- 32:30Speaker 4: lot too.
- 32:31Speaker 1: That I mean, Will said it himself. Strength strength. Yeah,
- 32:33Speaker 1: he's wrong. Strength.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Start to get that man strength. And he's two years old.
- 32:37Speaker 4: You know he's got to start to get you know,
- 32:38Speaker 4: have a kid, he get some dads strength, you know,
- 32:40Speaker 4: start to really really bet herms in DC?
- 32:43Speaker 1: What's up? Herm?
- 32:45Speaker 5: Hey, what's going on?
- 32:46Speaker 8: Gentlemen?
- 32:49Speaker 11: Real quick, quick, coming in a question and in advance.
- 32:54Speaker 11: I've been travel a little, haven't had a chance of listen.
- 32:57Speaker 11: Uh So if you I mean, if I'm beat a
- 33:00Speaker 11: dead horse, positive events.
- 33:02Speaker 9: But uh first commentist obviously about the Agrian Brown conversation.
- 33:08Speaker 9: I mean, I mean, the reality is there are no
- 33:11Speaker 9: discounts on Ferraris and Bugatti's right, So I mean that's
- 33:15Speaker 9: what it takes to get it still done. I mean,
- 33:17Speaker 9: you have to cough up a first rounder, so that
- 33:19Speaker 9: I mean, it is what it is.
- 33:22Speaker 11: But my question, my second question is this, I know
- 33:28Speaker 11: Paul had made fun of me before about that. But
- 33:33Speaker 11: I'm starting to coming.
- 33:34Speaker 9: Around a little bit too, the notion that is the
- 33:38Speaker 9: cap in the crap, right, and I'm I'm looking at
- 33:44Speaker 9: the rams an example, because the quarterback is getting paid.
- 33:48Speaker 9: I looked up at the left tackles getting paid. I
- 33:51Speaker 9: have to try to put the trade for Miles Garrett trade.
- 33:54Speaker 8: For another corner.
- 33:55Speaker 9: I think it's getting paid pretty well. And I'm bringing
- 33:58Speaker 9: this up in the context of Drake May obviously events
- 34:02Speaker 9: again a huge deal, right, so for Rosco's touching purposes
- 34:09Speaker 9: because in my mind, if he's taking me, what's my question? Well,
- 34:14Speaker 9: so my question is.
- 34:15Speaker 2: That I didn't really lost the move.
- 34:21Speaker 8: I didn't.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I didn't do it all right, all right, So yeah,
- 34:24Speaker 1: but we're not there yet, but we're gonna be there
- 34:27Speaker 1: where we're gonna have a lot of big tickets to pay.
- 34:30Speaker 2: It's about money.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Gonzo's coming up. May's coming up. You know, Milton
- 34:35Speaker 1: Williams is already on the books.
- 34:37Speaker 5: A J.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Brown costs a lot of money, right, So it's it's
- 34:40Speaker 2: about money. And I'm not making fun of anyone. I didn't.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Certainly I apologize for him if I made fun of you.
- 34:46Speaker 2: In the past, I just would say, don't talk about
- 34:48Speaker 2: the cap number because the cap can always be managed.
- 34:52Speaker 2: But not everybody and I understand this. Everybody has a budget,
- 34:58Speaker 2: so the actual dollars matter, and not every team is
- 35:01Speaker 2: able to just say, well, he gets a thirty million
- 35:04Speaker 2: dollar signing boys, and he gets a forty million dollar
- 35:06Speaker 2: signing bonus and he's going to get guaranteed one hundred
- 35:09Speaker 2: and ten million. Not every team can just do that
- 35:12Speaker 2: or is willing to do that willy nilly. But in
- 35:14Speaker 2: terms of the cap, that's that's the only thing. So
- 35:18Speaker 2: I think herm was going down the road of you know,
- 35:21Speaker 2: now you got aj Brown and you already had Milton Williams,
- 35:25Speaker 2: and then here comes Christian Gonzales and then next year
- 35:28Speaker 2: it's going to be Drake May. Yeah. No, I don't
- 35:31Speaker 2: think it's a foregone conclusion that everybody gets some I
- 35:34Speaker 2: think that's a perfect world for Patriots fans and that
- 35:37Speaker 2: I think that's what we're all expecting and hoping. But
- 35:40Speaker 2: I don't think it's a guarantee.
- 35:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you still have an Elliot Wolf was
- 35:44Speaker 6: on the record talking about this that everything has to
- 35:47Speaker 6: be done through the prism of eventually Drake May is
- 35:50Speaker 6: going to be paid and they have to all their moves.
- 35:52Speaker 6: But you know, they Drake May has one more year left, no,
- 35:56Speaker 6: well really two more years left on his rookie contract.
- 35:58Speaker 6: Then they have the fifth year of option, and then
- 36:01Speaker 6: they have an extension, so they really have like a
- 36:03Speaker 6: window of two seasons I would say before he's expensive.
- 36:06Speaker 6: Now the fifth year option would be expensive, but not
- 36:09Speaker 6: sixty five million dollars a year or whatever. So they
- 36:12Speaker 6: really have two years. And in theory, like a guy
- 36:15Speaker 6: like aj Brown might be a two year window. Like
- 36:18Speaker 6: that might be a player that is here for two years.
- 36:21Speaker 6: So by the time they're paying Mey Gonzalez top of
- 36:25Speaker 6: the market salaries at the same time, that might not
- 36:28Speaker 6: be until another two or three years down the road.
- 36:31Speaker 6: So right now they have this kind of window to
- 36:33Speaker 6: go all in on the talent around them on the roster.
- 36:36Speaker 1: And by the way, if Campbell doesn't prove and is
- 36:39Speaker 1: our left tackle of the feet, you're gonna have to
- 36:41Speaker 1: pay him too. And left tackles aren't cheap, so there's
- 36:45Speaker 1: some big tickets down the road. You're gonna have to
- 36:47Speaker 1: get ready for that.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Once they hit the point where Drake May's extension kicks in,
- 36:51Speaker 6: They're gonna be kind of in the same position Kansas
- 36:53Speaker 6: City is in, where there's gonna have to be probably
- 36:57Speaker 6: other things that will go. You know, Tyreek Kill gets created,
- 37:00Speaker 6: Trent McDuffie gets traded, you know, those types of things
- 37:03Speaker 6: that that's on the table. Because he's going to be
- 37:06Speaker 6: seventy million dollars a year at the quarterback.
- 37:08Speaker 1: You might have to lose the vending machine.
- 37:10Speaker 3: He might at well that we already paid for him.
- 37:12Speaker 4: It's easy to get caught up in this at this
- 37:14Speaker 4: time and then we got to sign him, and then
- 37:15Speaker 4: this guy's like the team's all signed for this year.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I don't like playing. It takes the fun out of it.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I don't want to worry about let them worry about.
- 37:26Speaker 6: Well, that's why I brought up the window, because like
- 37:28Speaker 6: we're really worrying about something that's like two to three
- 37:30Speaker 6: years down the road, so like we don't they don't
- 37:33Speaker 6: really now. If they signed Drake made to his extension
- 37:35Speaker 6: next offseason, then that usually rips up the fifth year option,
- 37:39Speaker 6: so like you're talking about paying him big money in
- 37:41Speaker 6: his fifth year instead of his sixth year technically speaking,
- 37:44Speaker 6: And I wouldn't do this because it's bad for the
- 37:46Speaker 6: player and bad for everybody. But they could pick up
- 37:48Speaker 6: his fifth year option and kick the can down the
- 37:51Speaker 6: road another offseason and not pay him until between four and.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Five, franchise him too after that, but that never works out.
- 37:57Speaker 3: It usually doesn't.
- 37:58Speaker 6: But that those are the types of leverages that the
- 38:00Speaker 6: teams have that you know, well, this is ahead of time, right,
- 38:03Speaker 6: this is ahead of schedule. Christian Gonzales that we're giving
- 38:06Speaker 6: you the money this offseason.
- 38:08Speaker 3: We really don't have to get.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Those are the things that work out because whatever you
- 38:11Speaker 1: pay him a couple of years later, it's not that much,
- 38:15Speaker 1: you know, Max and Santa Barbara writes in podcast at
- 38:19Speaker 1: Patriots dot com. My question is why are so many
- 38:21Speaker 1: of you he has in parentheses Evan so ready to
- 38:25Speaker 1: run Booty out of town. You complain that they don't
- 38:27Speaker 1: develop receivers, yet you're fine with sending Booty off. Not
- 38:30Speaker 1: every receiver is Moss, justin Jefferson, Puka Nakua. He's a
- 38:33Speaker 1: reliable receiver, and in today's NFL that seems to work.
- 38:36Speaker 1: I get the feeling of future offensive coordinator. Evan would
- 38:40Speaker 1: have run Givens and Branch out of town. Fred and
- 38:42Speaker 1: Paul straightened these younguns out love the show at fred
- 38:45Speaker 1: dry humor and Paul's snarkiness. Well, I don't think Evan
- 38:48Speaker 1: wants to run him out of town.
- 38:49Speaker 5: He just.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Belichick ran Gibbons and Branch out of town. Neither one
- 38:55Speaker 2: of them got agnixed.
- 38:55Speaker 1: That that's true. That's true.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Just you know, for the records, Fred and Paul would
- 39:00Speaker 2: have liked to have kept Branch and Givens. They didn't
- 39:07Speaker 2: didn't really hurt anything.
- 39:08Speaker 1: I don't really, not about Givens, but Branch for sure. Yeah,
- 39:12Speaker 1: I mean, you don't know.
- 39:13Speaker 2: They let Givens go too, But.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I don't know. If I was on the saying I would,
- 39:17Speaker 1: I would have.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Resigned both of those guys. Now, Givevens ended up going
- 39:20Speaker 2: to Tennessee and got hurt. He badly hurt his knee
- 39:22Speaker 2: and was never the same. Branch had productive years he
- 39:26Speaker 2: came back.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Oh, I know, I know I wouldn't. Yeah, listen, Jacoby Myers,
- 39:30Speaker 1: we wanted to keep. You know, I totally get the point.
- 39:34Speaker 4: It's just like, look at what the player really is
- 39:37Speaker 4: and the lofty goals now of you know, is is
- 39:40Speaker 4: Booty ever going to be that game changing number one.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I think he is what he is. He's a solid player,
- 39:44Speaker 1: but right now we're looking for more when we're trying
- 39:47Speaker 1: to put a J. Brown on Listen, I've I've been
- 39:50Speaker 1: I've been very public with my my love of Booty.
- 39:54Speaker 1: You know, so I I really like him. I think
- 39:58Speaker 1: I think the best is yet to come for him.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I don't even think we've seen the best out of him.
- 40:02Speaker 1: But for on this team. I get what Evan is saying.
- 40:06Speaker 1: It's a fit thing, it's a redundancy thing. You just
- 40:08Speaker 1: signed AJ Brown. There's a lot of redundancy there. Can
- 40:11Speaker 1: you afford to have Booty on your team as a backup?
- 40:14Speaker 1: And will Booty want that? It's clear that he doesn't.
- 40:17Speaker 2: If Booty wanted it and fully embraced the role, I
- 40:20Speaker 2: would do the same. Like it's not the same as
- 40:22Speaker 2: the Digs thing because it's so different roles those three guys.
- 40:25Speaker 2: But I would keep Booty and say, never know, I
- 40:28Speaker 2: might need he might need a bigger role because someone
- 40:30Speaker 2: might get hurt and I'd like to have a guy
- 40:32Speaker 2: that is already produced in that role.
- 40:34Speaker 1: There no chance, is there no chance he's on the
- 40:36Speaker 1: team this year?
- 40:38Speaker 2: A chance there's always a chance until he's not on
- 40:40Speaker 2: the team. I mean, he doesn't want to be on
- 40:42Speaker 2: the team.
- 40:42Speaker 6: Just like reading Tea leaves if I think if they
- 40:45Speaker 6: got an offer that they liked, then he would already
- 40:47Speaker 6: be gone. Like this has been two off seasons in
- 40:49Speaker 6: a row that he's his name has been floated in
- 40:51Speaker 6: trade rumors and this one especially, and I just don't
- 40:54Speaker 6: think that the offer has been great that they've been
- 40:57Speaker 6: blown away to be like yeah, like let's do it.
- 40:59Speaker 3: But it's just a redundancy thing.
- 41:01Speaker 6: I mean he was talking to Dan Roach at some
- 41:03Speaker 6: charity event and he said, well, I'm an ex receiver.
- 41:06Speaker 6: AJ Brown's an nex receiver, so you can only play one, like,
- 41:10Speaker 6: you know, is.
- 41:11Speaker 1: That true though? Can you play two x'es?
- 41:13Speaker 6: I mean you could in theory, but like, I just
- 41:16Speaker 6: don't think that that's what's best, Like I don't think
- 41:18Speaker 6: it's what's best for the team. So I just I
- 41:21Speaker 6: look at it more of like Kayshon Boody's in the
- 41:24Speaker 6: fourth year of his contract as a rookie contract that's
- 41:27Speaker 6: expiring at the end of this year. He's trying to
- 41:29Speaker 6: set himself up for a second contract and if he's
- 41:32Speaker 6: backing up AJ Brown?
- 41:34Speaker 3: How is that? How is that keeping everybody happy?
- 41:37Speaker 2: Like?
- 41:37Speaker 6: Are they all going to play nice in the sandbox
- 41:39Speaker 6: when his role and his snaps and his targets are
- 41:43Speaker 6: reduced to nothing because unless AJ Brown gets hurt, he's
- 41:46Speaker 6: not playing, and so it's not anything to do with
- 41:49Speaker 6: Kaishan Booty or his ability. The only thing I pushed
- 41:51Speaker 6: back on with Kaishan Booty is the guy caught forty
- 41:54Speaker 6: passes for five hundred and fifty yards and we do
- 41:56Speaker 6: act sometimes like he's Randy Monks. Yeah, that's the only
- 42:00Speaker 6: difference that I kind of push back on is like technically,
- 42:04Speaker 6: like in theory, guys like Kaishon Booty are replacement level players,
- 42:08Speaker 6: like you should be able to find another Kaishon Booty.
- 42:10Speaker 6: I don't think you can just find another Aj Brown,
- 42:13Speaker 6: which is why they traded a first round.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Pick for him.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Dylan says, we're back, baby. I love this time of
- 42:18Speaker 1: the year because it guarantees the same things from everyone
- 42:20Speaker 1: every year. Deuce will gawk over a big guy and
- 42:23Speaker 1: latch onto a random defensive player that he knows in
- 42:26Speaker 1: his heart probably won't make the team or get any
- 42:28Speaker 1: playing time, but falls in love with anyway, Fred will
- 42:31Speaker 1: be overly optimistic about an offensive player, most likely a receiver,
- 42:36Speaker 1: fully open to committing to someone having a six year
- 42:38Speaker 1: breakout season. Paul is there to play what he considers
- 42:42Speaker 1: to be the Devil's advocate, which is really just a
- 42:44Speaker 1: pessimistic rebuttal to Fred's optimism, which is just him laughing
- 42:48Speaker 1: and saying I don't know. And finally, Evan. Evan will
- 42:52Speaker 1: explain how he will not be taking the cheese this season,
- 42:55Speaker 1: fully explaining past years. Insert Taekwon Thornton's story that he
- 42:59Speaker 1: has done this, and he will use that to transition
- 43:02Speaker 1: into a story of him fully taking the cheese of
- 43:04Speaker 1: a speedy receiver, looking good before the pads come on.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Never change boys. What a fun season coming up, especially
- 43:12Speaker 1: when we get the Thibodeau.
- 43:14Speaker 6: Nope, not this year, not this year, not taking the cheese.
- 43:17Speaker 6: This good spring for Pop Douglas and I'm not I'm
- 43:20Speaker 6: not doing it.
- 43:21Speaker 3: I'm not doing it.
- 43:22Speaker 6: No Island, Nope, different positions, So we let that one.
- 43:28Speaker 6: He opens the door from Pop Douglas. I hope that
- 43:33Speaker 6: you know every spring, even training camp. Last year Pop
- 43:37Speaker 6: had a great training camp and I know people were
- 43:40Speaker 6: building it up, not doing it. I hope it happens,
- 43:43Speaker 6: but I'm not. I'm not doing it until will you be.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Keeping an eye on the Taekwon Thornton hype in Kansas
- 43:47Speaker 4: City though.
- 43:48Speaker 6: That's it's funny because this is what happens. And I
- 43:51Speaker 6: feel bad a little bit for Chiefs Kingdom because, like
- 43:54Speaker 6: you you, Taekwon Thornton does this every spring because he's
- 43:57Speaker 6: the fastest guy on the field and when it's just
- 44:00Speaker 6: a track meet, like he's gonna look like he's, you know,
- 44:02Speaker 6: a superstar. And then he start, you know, playing the
- 44:05Speaker 6: real games and he's Taekwon Thornton. And I feel bad
- 44:07Speaker 6: because I've been there. So I've been there.
- 44:11Speaker 1: I know you're you're gonna defend yourself against taking the cheese,
- 44:15Speaker 1: but I'm trying. If there was the trap that you
- 44:19Speaker 1: would fall into, who would it be for?
- 44:23Speaker 6: I can't quit pop. I liked him when they drafted him.
- 44:26Speaker 6: I liked him when we saw him at the Shrine
- 44:28Speaker 6: Bowl all years ago. I still love the skill set. Uh,
- 44:33Speaker 6: you know, it's just in games. It's been okay, but
- 44:35Speaker 6: it hasn't. He hasn't taken that next step, you know,
- 44:39Speaker 6: he hasn't. He hasn't taken that consistent next step to
- 44:42Speaker 6: being a top three receiver. But I just love the
- 44:45Speaker 6: idea of it because I think he's a little bit
- 44:47Speaker 6: more down the field than like your traditional Eft and
- 44:51Speaker 6: Chisholm slot receiver.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Paul.
- 44:53Speaker 4: What cheese would you nibble at for this year, Mozzarella?
- 45:00Speaker 2: Probably the Raritan. I think there's a skill set there
- 45:05Speaker 2: on paper that quite frankly hasn't really manifested itself on
- 45:09Speaker 2: the field at Notre Dame. So I think if I'm
- 45:12Speaker 2: guilty of taking the cheese, it would be on him.
- 45:14Speaker 8: Rareted.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Part of that would be because I, you know, I
- 45:17Speaker 2: tend to gravitate to the guys that I do the
- 45:19Speaker 2: profiles onto.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Sure, So yeah, I'm gonna still stick with Akis. Yeah,
- 45:25Speaker 1: I'm with you on him. I just I think they
- 45:27Speaker 1: need him. That's a position.
- 45:30Speaker 4: I mean again, going back to the profiles, it is like,
- 45:32Speaker 4: you know, the second round with Landry.
- 45:34Speaker 1: You know, it's just I think he It all starts
- 45:36Speaker 1: with him. What is he this year?
- 45:37Speaker 4: Is he or a juvenated player who had surgery and
- 45:40Speaker 4: kind of gets back to that level we saw the
- 45:41Speaker 4: first few weeks last year, Or is he you know,
- 45:44Speaker 4: player who's going to continue to kind of slowly slide down.
- 45:46Speaker 4: I think he's still got something to give, but the
- 45:49Speaker 4: juice that Accus potentially provides, I think it's just a
- 45:52Speaker 4: critical element for this.
- 45:54Speaker 1: You feel a lot of your media brethren are tempted
- 45:58Speaker 1: to take the cheese on Kyle Williams.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Yep, it's a it's a good one. It's a good one.
- 46:03Speaker 6: I think that we've seen a little bit of inconsistency
- 46:05Speaker 6: and the practices that we've watched already with him, So
- 46:08Speaker 6: I think that that's maybe.
- 46:10Speaker 2: A good one for it.
- 46:10Speaker 6: Poured some cold water on it just a little bit.
- 46:12Speaker 6: And then Rabel had this story that a ball apparently
- 46:16Speaker 6: went off his hands and right to the to the
- 46:18Speaker 6: defense and practiced a couple of weeks ago.
- 46:20Speaker 4: So skeptical of him, Yeah, I just you know, it's
- 46:22Speaker 4: just like you know, you take the cheese, you're not.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Taking the cheese. And there's just something about.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Him that it's the consistency for me, And that's what
- 46:30Speaker 4: I think you need to look for in his second
- 46:32Speaker 4: year at camp is day in, day out, being where
- 46:35Speaker 4: he's supposed to be catching what's thrown his way and
- 46:38Speaker 4: what's what's catchable, you.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Know, He's got a great personality.
- 46:41Speaker 4: He's very funny, and you know, I love any chance
- 46:44Speaker 4: I've had to be around him. He's, you know, got
- 46:46Speaker 4: this gravitational kind of pull to him. But at the
- 46:50Speaker 4: same time, sometimes I notice, like the guys who are
- 46:53Speaker 4: great in the NFL, there's a certain focus and edge
- 46:56Speaker 4: to them, and you know, attention to detail, and that's
- 46:59Speaker 4: the great one ones. And you might expect him to
- 47:02Speaker 4: be a good player, and that could be fine, but
- 47:04Speaker 4: for him to be a real impact player and for
- 47:06Speaker 4: them to say, you know, hey, I mean, in a
- 47:08Speaker 4: perfect groold to me, you're looking at we got dobbson Brown.
- 47:11Speaker 4: We just need that one guy who can bring some
- 47:14Speaker 4: speed down the field.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And I don't see why it can't be Kyle Williams.
- 47:18Speaker 4: I mean those touchdowns he caught last year, you know,
- 47:20Speaker 4: great hands, doing what Booty essentially did, just not quite
- 47:24Speaker 4: at the same rate, but but not too far behind him.
- 47:26Speaker 3: So I have high houses for him.
- 47:27Speaker 1: I like the guy.
- 47:28Speaker 4: I liked the skill set, but I just think the consistency,
- 47:32Speaker 4: to me, is what needs.
- 47:33Speaker 1: He had a couple I mean, most notably that Tampa
- 47:36Speaker 1: Bay game, that wow moment where he just caught it
- 47:38Speaker 1: he was gone. But there's not enough of those, oh,
- 47:41Speaker 1: I mean just I mean the downfield catches too. I mean,
- 47:43Speaker 1: I you know, I caught a couple.
- 47:44Speaker 4: I don't know, it was probably on Twitter or something,
- 47:45Speaker 4: some of his highlights, but you know, it's.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Just he had a big one at Baltimore. That was
- 47:49Speaker 2: That was the one that stands out to me. The
- 47:51Speaker 2: other one who is kind of opened, but that one
- 47:53Speaker 2: was tough, tough catch right by the pylon, kind of
- 47:57Speaker 2: outside show. That wasn't it. That was a big time player.
- 47:59Speaker 3: Started come back. I mean, it's a big time to
- 48:02Speaker 3: spark there.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Four quarter comeback the yeah, I mean it would you
- 48:05Speaker 1: know we need Kyle Williams.
- 48:06Speaker 4: To Yeah, No, I'm like I said, I'm you know,
- 48:10Speaker 4: you start to see personality types, and you know, especially
- 48:12Speaker 4: in professional sports, and you're like, you know, the the loosey,
- 48:15Speaker 4: goosey fun guys. Like sometimes it works and it works
- 48:17Speaker 4: really well, and everybody loves that story. But you know,
- 48:20Speaker 4: I would always err more towards the side of the
- 48:23Speaker 4: goofy guys. Got to prove a little bit more to
- 48:25Speaker 4: me than you know, the guys who are the guys, the.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Serious football guys.
- 48:29Speaker 4: You know, I mean, talk about those guys too all
- 48:30Speaker 4: the time, where you know, the key on Whites of
- 48:32Speaker 4: the world doesn't guarantee that they're great, but you know,
- 48:35Speaker 4: it's just certain vibes.
- 48:37Speaker 2: You know, it's a good job presenting both sides of
- 48:39Speaker 2: that argument. Like you know, you know, I like the
- 48:42Speaker 2: serious guy. Well, it doesn't always work that way either.
- 48:45Speaker 2: On White was serious football dude, right question.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you know he can play like.
- 48:52Speaker 6: The goofy guys that have succeeded. I'm trying to think
- 48:55Speaker 6: of it. I guess Gronk, Yeah, that's a good one.
- 48:58Speaker 6: You know, that's a good one.
- 49:00Speaker 1: If you get the talent. It doesn't matter who.
- 49:01Speaker 6: I mean, it's hard to say. And you know, the
- 49:03Speaker 6: Patriots locker room usually it's more of the serious football guys.
- 49:06Speaker 5: Sure.
- 49:06Speaker 6: I mean I remember last year when Robert Splain was
- 49:08Speaker 6: coming back from that injury, and like, my goodness, looked
- 49:11Speaker 6: like one run through a brick wall lead them.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I was like, yeah, you know, it looked
- 49:17Speaker 3: like he.
- 49:17Speaker 6: Was still saying Gladiator going into the coliseum. But yeah,
- 49:23Speaker 6: there's not Gronk's a good one, but there's not very
- 49:25Speaker 6: many at all.
- 49:26Speaker 3: And Gronk is Gronk you know.
- 49:28Speaker 4: Chad Chadko, you know, like, but yeah, again the guy
- 49:31Speaker 4: that you know, and then when it started to go
- 49:33Speaker 4: bad for him, it's not so fun anymore when he's
- 49:35Speaker 4: here in twenty eleven and not doing anything.
- 49:37Speaker 3: And yeah, like you know you.
- 49:38Speaker 6: Think of like the mccordy's and Slater and you know,
- 49:42Speaker 6: High Tower and like those those types of guys that
- 49:45Speaker 6: were just intense.
- 49:47Speaker 1: You know, right, Joe's in Pennsylvania. What's up, Joe?
- 49:52Speaker 8: Hey, guys?
- 49:52Speaker 12: Uh, just two questions, like comments, just frea gets your
- 49:56Speaker 12: opinions on. But first thing, one storyline I don't want
- 49:59Speaker 12: to hear this year is Remandre and his fumbles, Like
- 50:03Speaker 12: I just feel as though it's like like from my perspective,
- 50:05Speaker 12: he gets a clean slate because I really feel like
- 50:07Speaker 12: that affected the whole running back room, especially even Henderson.
- 50:11Speaker 12: And then second thing I saw on a promo for
- 50:14Speaker 12: the Colts, just a picture and it was showing Alex Pearson.
- 50:17Speaker 12: It just made me think like, oh, what could have
- 50:19Speaker 12: like the different scenarios that could have happened. But I'm
- 50:22Speaker 12: just happy that we ended up with aj Brown and
- 50:24Speaker 12: where we're at. But just just your comments on of those.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Things, Okay, thanks. Well, we all talked about it.
- 50:28Speaker 6: If he doesn't fumble, the second one is good, Like
- 50:32Speaker 6: would you rather AJ Brown but trading the first round
- 50:37Speaker 6: pick for him or have just signed Alec Pearson free
- 50:39Speaker 6: agency and not having because I think A J.
- 50:42Speaker 3: Brown is a better player, but.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Much better player I don't know right now, but much
- 50:46Speaker 2: better player career wise. Yeah, AJ Brown.
- 50:49Speaker 4: There is some intrigue to me. I think I'd probably
- 50:51Speaker 4: lean towards a J. Brown, But there is intrigue. And
- 50:54Speaker 4: we talked about at the time with Alec Pearce and
- 50:55Speaker 4: the skill set that Drake May has and that seems
- 50:58Speaker 4: like a pretty good matt But you know, even Alex
- 51:01Speaker 4: Pierce talked about I'm going to get this paycheck, I
- 51:03Speaker 4: have to do more, you know. So you'd be paying
- 51:05Speaker 4: him and you wouldn't have given the first round pick,
- 51:08Speaker 4: and you'd feel good about the baseline skill set of
- 51:11Speaker 4: getting down the field and throwing the ball to him.
- 51:12Speaker 4: But can he in a Josh McDaniels offense? Can he
- 51:15Speaker 4: be multiple? Can he open up doors for other people too?
- 51:18Speaker 2: Yeah? And that would be no question. If you gave
- 51:20Speaker 2: Pierce the contract that he signed to stay in Indy,
- 51:23Speaker 2: he would need to do more, and that the risk
- 51:25Speaker 2: would be that he kinda is a one dra pony
- 51:27Speaker 2: he's not capable of more, to which case I would
- 51:31Speaker 2: say that would be a bad signing. You've cast yourself
- 51:33Speaker 2: some money. If AJ Brown is on the decline. I
- 51:38Speaker 2: know he told us, you know, wait and see or
- 51:40Speaker 2: whatever how he finished that press conference. But if he
- 51:43Speaker 2: ends up just sort of being average run of the mill,
- 51:46Speaker 2: then you've wasted money like you would have with Pierce,
- 51:50Speaker 2: and you lost a first round pick. So there's risk
- 51:52Speaker 2: both ways. I mean, I don't think there's any comparison
- 51:56Speaker 2: of careers though, I mean AJ Brown is light years
- 51:58Speaker 2: better than.
- 51:59Speaker 3: I think Aja.
- 52:00Speaker 1: He's still a Yeah.
- 52:01Speaker 2: He probably probably is. Yeah, probably is. Like I don't,
- 52:04Speaker 2: I think it's a projection. With Pierce, you're trying to
- 52:07Speaker 2: say that, like, yeah, he can go from fifty catches
- 52:10Speaker 2: to eighty catches and still you know, average sixteen plus
- 52:15Speaker 2: a catch or something like that. That's a projection. He's
- 52:17Speaker 2: never really done that.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Alexander in Toronto haven't been able to listen for a bit,
- 52:23Speaker 1: being busy finishing up teachers College, But I was wondering,
- 52:27Speaker 1: do you think the experience from last year with how
- 52:30Speaker 1: thin the running back room got down the stretch will
- 52:32Speaker 1: lead the team to carry an extra running back this season,
- 52:36Speaker 1: possibly opening a path for Larison or the other UDFA
- 52:41Speaker 1: backups to make the roster.
- 52:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's Miles Montgomery, maybe the other ones.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know.
- 52:48Speaker 4: I just I mean, like in theory, it sounds great,
- 52:50Speaker 4: but I just don't know if these guys can play,
- 52:51Speaker 4: you know, like I don't know if Lann Larison is
- 52:53Speaker 4: an NFL player yet.
- 52:54Speaker 1: I don't know if jam Miller is ready to come.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Whoever, the best one of those guys is will probably
- 52:59Speaker 2: make it as the third running back. But do you
- 53:00Speaker 2: need more than three on the actor.
- 53:03Speaker 6: Now with the way the practice squad is set up now, Like, because.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Back in the day, you could get away with.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Four or fives to carry people used to run.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know, I.
- 53:13Speaker 6: Remember those years when there's like you know, White Birkhead
- 53:17Speaker 6: early down back. Yeah, they had you know, guys like that.
- 53:21Speaker 6: They had sometimes they had four. So I think the
- 53:23Speaker 6: one year they might have carried five.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I remember that. And so how they're going to use
- 53:27Speaker 1: them all? And people got hurt and they used every
- 53:28Speaker 1: one of them.
- 53:29Speaker 6: Yeah, Well, the Stephen Jackson goes on Bill. But the
- 53:33Speaker 6: the now with the way you can bring guys up
- 53:37Speaker 6: so easily back and forth from the practice squad. Usually
- 53:40Speaker 6: the fourth running back will we'll sign to your practice
- 53:43Speaker 6: squad and you keep them there.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Uh, Max in Montana, I'd like a stat prediction receptions, yards,
- 53:50Speaker 1: touchdowns from each of you for AJ Brown this season.
- 53:53Speaker 1: The last time I was this excited about a player
- 53:55Speaker 1: we traded for was seven when Randy came to town
- 53:59Speaker 1: and ps, Paul, how is your pillow doing? It's actually
- 54:03Speaker 1: me he wants to talk. How is your pillow doing?
- 54:05Speaker 1: Since it's been a few months now. I like it.
- 54:08Speaker 1: It's a good pillow. Yeah, it's a good pillows forming nicely.
- 54:10Speaker 8: Yep.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Prediction AJ Brown prediction stats.
- 54:17Speaker 4: I'm gonna do ninety catches for eleven hundred.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Yards, touchdowns six six? Okay?
- 54:28Speaker 2: Are you happy with for one thousand and seven eighty?
- 54:31Speaker 1: Okay?
- 54:31Speaker 3: About what he did last year?
- 54:32Speaker 8: Right?
- 54:33Speaker 2: I think so.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Somewhere in those ballparks names right.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Now, yeah, I like.
- 54:37Speaker 4: I like it's going to be the pure volume guy,
- 54:39Speaker 4: So I don't really see like one hundred plus catches.
- 54:41Speaker 4: I think, you know, it will be a little bit
- 54:42Speaker 4: more big play, but I think he's uh. I think
- 54:45Speaker 4: he'ld be productive. I think they'll find, you know, consistent
- 54:48Speaker 4: ways to get on the ball. But I think he's
- 54:49Speaker 4: going to fit in well as a COG. And I
- 54:51Speaker 4: think Dobbs should should have some volume.
- 54:55Speaker 1: See if he catches eighty right, which would be a
- 54:58Speaker 1: down year for him, but the offense is top five
- 55:04Speaker 1: and other receivers are, you know, upping their game from
- 55:09Speaker 1: previous years. And I'm good with that. Brown, I think
- 55:12Speaker 1: he had eighty last that he had eighty, Okay, yeah, well.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Like I'm not sure I'm good with that. I'm saying
- 55:18Speaker 2: he maintains his consistency.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you know, as long as the offense as
- 55:22Speaker 1: a whole is more consistent against the better teams, then
- 55:28Speaker 1: I'm good with that signing. It's well worth the first
- 55:30Speaker 1: round pick.
- 55:31Speaker 6: I wonder, you know, the touchdowns. Maybe we're a little
- 55:33Speaker 6: low on that. Like red zone wise, he's definitely more
- 55:36Speaker 6: of a threat than what they've had, Like definitely more
- 55:39Speaker 6: of a red zone weapon than Digs. So I do
- 55:42Speaker 6: wonder if maybe he maybe it's only you know, a thousand,
- 55:47Speaker 6: eleven hundred yards, but does he have ten touchdowns?
- 55:50Speaker 3: You know? I think they need to be better down there.
- 55:53Speaker 6: First of all, just you know, they weren't very good
- 55:55Speaker 6: in the red zone all year last year offensively, so
- 55:58Speaker 6: hopefully having a guy like Bej Brown helps you there.
- 56:01Speaker 6: So maybe the touchdowns are closer to like the eight
- 56:04Speaker 6: to ten for me, but the yards I think are
- 56:06Speaker 6: about the same as what the guys said.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Canadian Mike in Not So Smelly Florida Big Head used
- 56:14Speaker 1: to always say that Florida stinks. It's a smelly state,
- 56:18Speaker 1: especially Florida. It's been a while since I emailed and
- 56:22Speaker 1: or called, been listening since the hot Dogs and Sausages years.
- 56:26Speaker 1: Totally stoked about the team in the new era of
- 56:29Speaker 1: the gravel Patriots. I think he means favorable. But anyway, uh,
- 56:35Speaker 1: as for aj and having an alpha dog wide receiver,
- 56:39Speaker 1: it's great that he wanted to earn his respect on
- 56:41Speaker 1: the team. However, is it better to have a Digs
- 56:44Speaker 1: type that just plays the alpha role or a guy
- 56:47Speaker 1: who's humble but talented. I only asked because wide receiver
- 56:50Speaker 1: is the one position, or a slightly conceded guy tends
- 56:53Speaker 1: to be more productive, if that makes any sense.
- 56:56Speaker 4: I just think it's day one and he didn't want
- 56:58Speaker 4: to hok. I think he'll be I think he'll be fine.
- 57:02Speaker 1: And it's like the.
- 57:03Speaker 6: Tone that Digs brought, Like, I thought there was an
- 57:06Speaker 6: intensity and a purpose and an energy that he would
- 57:09Speaker 6: bring to just every day, like just being around the team.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Totally agree, And I think it was exactly what that
- 57:15Speaker 2: team needed. Yeah, you know, they had come off bad years.
- 57:18Speaker 2: There was no direction, especially in that room. I think
- 57:22Speaker 2: that room was really immature the previous year under Girod
- 57:25Speaker 2: Mayo the wide receivers yep. And I thought he was
- 57:29Speaker 2: exactly what the doctor ordered. You will not have any
- 57:32Speaker 2: issues with AJ Brown and confidence and swagger and all
- 57:35Speaker 2: that stuff. This is a guy who felt comfortable enough
- 57:39Speaker 2: while his team was going to a couple of Super
- 57:41Speaker 2: Bowls and still contending for them to question what was
- 57:45Speaker 2: going on. He was comfortable enough to you know, be
- 57:49Speaker 2: talking about the shortcomings of others and trying to fix
- 57:52Speaker 2: fix what he felt was wrong, right, wrong or indifferent.
- 57:55Speaker 2: I'm not defending AJ Brown and I'm not criticizing him
- 57:58Speaker 2: for it, but I'm just trying to say this is
- 58:01Speaker 2: not like a shrinking Violet. This is a guy who's
- 58:04Speaker 2: very self assured and self confident.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Yep, all right, We're going to take a break. When
- 58:10Speaker 1: we come back, more calls than emails. Just the reminder

- 1:00:48Speaker 16: Brooks have to get used to and navigating through injury
- 1:00:52Speaker 16: and things like that. But you know, you learn something

- 1:01:29Speaker 5: You learn a lot, You learn something new each week.
- 1:01:31Speaker 16: It's kind of hard to you know, pinpoint one specific thing. Obviously,
- 1:01:36Speaker 16: you know, the length of the season is something that
- 1:01:39Speaker 16: rookies have to get used to and navigating through injury
- 1:01:43Speaker 16: and things like that. But you know, you learn something
- 1:01:46Speaker 16: new each week based on who you're playing, and you know,
- 1:01:48Speaker 16: schematically and things like that.
- 1:01:50Speaker 17: You aj is kind of the final piece of the
- 1:01:53Speaker 17: off season puzzle. And what do you see him doing
- 1:01:55Speaker 17: for the offensive totality?
- 1:01:57Speaker 16: Yeah, I mean I think you know, whenever you can
- 1:01:59Speaker 16: bring a player like that and you know, it obviously
- 1:02:01Speaker 16: elevates everybody around him, and like I said, I think
- 1:02:05Speaker 16: it's only going to help us.
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: I think Caleb said that you reached out to him
- 1:02:09Speaker 8: as soon as.
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: He was drafted. What was that exchange, Lake, And what
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: do you think of them so far? It's been awesome.
- 1:02:14Speaker 16: I'm super excited to have him here and I you know,
- 1:02:17Speaker 16: continue to get to know him.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:02:19Speaker 16: But you know, last year or the year before, whenever
- 1:02:21Speaker 16: I got drafted, you know, Morgan reached out to me,
- 1:02:24Speaker 16: and you know it's obviously you know, feels good whenever
- 1:02:27Speaker 16: guys on the team reach out so I wanted to
- 1:02:29Speaker 16: you know, reciprocate that, you know, plan on me and
- 1:02:32Speaker 16: him being here for a while together. So starting a
- 1:02:34Speaker 16: relationship as soon as possible was something that I wanted
- 1:02:37Speaker 16: to do. And yeah, and I'm super excited for the
- 1:02:40Speaker 16: future with him.
- 1:02:41Speaker 17: Drink said something along the lines if you have any
- 1:02:43Speaker 17: chip on your shoulder this offseason, where where does that
- 1:02:45Speaker 17: come from?
- 1:02:45Speaker 18: And what do you hope to prove?
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: I'm just trying to do my job for the team. Uh,
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: you know, Yeah, what was like for you.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: After the Super Bowl? Coming down and thinking back and
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: looking back onto here and basically out what was your
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: time like and now getting to where you want to
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: be out going forward?
- 1:03:05Speaker 16: Yeah, I mean after the season, my my number one
- 1:03:07Speaker 16: goal was just you know, obviously, you know, take a
- 1:03:11Speaker 16: couple of days away and you know, just kind of
- 1:03:13Speaker 16: assess everything with you know, the coaches and things like that,
- 1:03:18Speaker 16: you know, pinpointing down what we feel like I do
- 1:03:21Speaker 16: really well and then things that I need to get
- 1:03:23Speaker 16: better at, and uh, you know, getting back healthy. And
- 1:03:27Speaker 16: I did PT five days a week the entire off
- 1:03:30Speaker 16: season until we got back, basically just trying to you know,
- 1:03:34Speaker 16: rebuild you know, the strength of my need to get
- 1:03:36Speaker 16: it back to where it was previously. Uh, and I
- 1:03:39Speaker 16: feel like I did a good job with that. And
- 1:03:41Speaker 16: uh yeah, just just working training, uh, you know, trying
- 1:03:44Speaker 16: to put myself in the best position possible to come
- 1:03:46Speaker 16: back in the best shape I can h and things
- 1:03:49Speaker 16: like that.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Much you think you can help killed since your rookie
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: season so fresh.
- 1:03:53Speaker 16: In your mind, Yeah, I think you know, not only me,
- 1:03:56Speaker 16: but there's a lot of guys in the room that
- 1:03:59Speaker 16: can help them.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: I mean me Morgan obviously. You know.
- 1:04:03Speaker 16: It's it's nice whenever you have a guy and it's
- 1:04:06Speaker 16: gonna sound as old as Morgan, uh, but you know,
- 1:04:10Speaker 16: he's so he has so much knowledge and you know
- 1:04:13Speaker 16: he wants to share it with everybody. And you know
- 1:04:16Speaker 16: that's what part of him, you know, making him such
- 1:04:18Speaker 16: a good teammate, as he wants to help everybody around him.
- 1:04:21Speaker 16: So I think it's awesome, you know, for me to
- 1:04:24Speaker 16: be able to, you know, tell Caleb some things and
- 1:04:27Speaker 16: you know Morgan no telling more because Morgan's seen it all.
- 1:04:33Speaker 17: There was ways that you're looking to doing a job
- 1:04:36Speaker 17: in your two be in the area for improvement. What
- 1:04:38Speaker 17: are some of the biggest areas where you look at
- 1:04:40Speaker 17: specifically and see that you have growth potential.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: You're saying, like, what that's doing my job? Me?
- 1:04:48Speaker 17: In your Yeah, I like, what are the areas you
- 1:04:50Speaker 17: feel like you can where you can get better everywhere?
- 1:04:54Speaker 16: I mean, nobody is a finished product. It's not you know,
- 1:04:57Speaker 16: one specific thing that I'm gonna you know, nail that.
- 1:05:02Speaker 16: I work at everything every day.
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:05:05Speaker 16: You know, like I said before, say, I'm twenty two,
- 1:05:07Speaker 16: so I'm a long way from where I'm gonna be,
- 1:05:09Speaker 16: you know, in the future. So it's not like I'm
- 1:05:13Speaker 16: great at everything and here's one little thing. I'm building
- 1:05:16Speaker 16: everything every day and trying to make everything as a
- 1:05:20Speaker 16: whole better. And by doing my job is doing what
- 1:05:24Speaker 16: the coaches teach and what they're asking us to do.
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: On the specific play at.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: Hand, What do you contribute to your softball skillding third
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: and the home run derby? Kay, it had some nice
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: players there, what do you Yeah?
- 1:05:39Speaker 16: I mean, I think I got the worst of the
- 1:05:40Speaker 16: pitching and the home run derby. Uh, and I think
- 1:05:44Speaker 16: it might've been a little different story, but yeah, it
- 1:05:47Speaker 16: was fun.
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: I'm uh.
- 1:05:48Speaker 16: I was a little sore after It's been a minute
- 1:05:50Speaker 16: since I swung a baseball bat. But yeah, it was fun.
- 1:05:53Speaker 16: I was super excited to be out there. It was
- 1:05:55Speaker 16: great turnout. Uh, I think everybody had a good time.
- 1:05:59Speaker 8: What were you go?
- 1:05:59Speaker 17: Oh, I went through the injury last season and you
- 1:06:03Speaker 17: have the fool off season to recover healthy.
- 1:06:05Speaker 12: Wise, I do feel like you're one hundred percent back.
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel good. I feel good.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: And now great moments in.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: History.
- 1:06:17Speaker 7: Oh, I got what's the bad guy?
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: What's the mat?
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: A guess?
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Twice this week. I'm mad at my I'm mad at myself.
- 1:06:23Speaker 7: Kid more than I'm masterances not what I usually do,
- 1:06:28Speaker 7: because I've learned over the years. Ninety five even though
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: it's a short distance from two ninety five to four
- 1:06:34Speaker 7: ninety five, that little stretch there, it's usually.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Where all the messes happened.
- 1:06:39Speaker 7: So I've learned, get get off at the Emerald Square
- 1:06:42Speaker 7: exit A two ninety five, which is Root one, and
- 1:06:45Speaker 7: just take Root one all the way up here.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: Never any problems.
- 1:06:49Speaker 7: Ever today today I was like, you know what, it's
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: the middle, it's the late morning.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: It should be fine. What could have happened.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: It's supposed to be one of the busiest traffic happened,
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: you know in recent man so Eric said, So I said,
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: only there's traffic, but.
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: Today at rush hour there's usually traffic. So I'm like, oh,
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: it's it's quarter of eleven in the morning. What could
- 1:07:09Speaker 7: possibly go wrong? Well, some jackass drove into the median
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: there and.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: The newest reader Jackknife on the Santa Anna.
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: His his car is like stuck in trees in the
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: meeting not an awful mess, And there's like I'm stuck
- 1:07:21Speaker 7: in traffic and there are literally people like trying to
- 1:07:25Speaker 7: get through on the breakdown lanes to try to get by,
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: and all of a sudden, your hand, all the sirens
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: are coming. There's cop after cop and then firetruck after
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: fire truck, rescue squad. By the time we got up
- 1:07:37Speaker 7: to the accident, there were a half dozen fire trucks
- 1:07:42Speaker 7: blocking the passing lane because the sky literally there's like
- 1:07:46Speaker 7: you know how some of the medians have like they
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: dip down, but there's like vegetation and trees and stuff.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: This guy drove his car into the trees about five
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: minutes later.
- 1:07:57Speaker 7: And then earlier this week we had that thing down
- 1:07:59Speaker 7: in Route one.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Our web master gets stuck in it too.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Monday or tuesdays. Yeah, well, hey, how're we going traffic
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: on the threes. That's another great moment.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: All right back here at Patriots Up Filtered eight five
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: to five. PATS five hundred is the hotline podcast at
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Patriots dot com is the email address. Of course, we're
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: talking about what we're expecting, what we're hoping for in
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: mini camp today, tomorrow and Thursday, we're gonna have access
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: to all three. Can't wait, so again vrabel at twelve
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: forty five. Then after practice later tonight, you know probably
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: what three, four, five o'clock, you'll have a wrap up
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: of what you guys saw at practice.
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: Yeah, we're gonna, i think, try to shoot that by
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: fourish and hopefully turn it quick.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: So hopefully it's up by five o'clock. So okay, get
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: our full observations. Sounds good, yeah, Jacket and above right, Sin,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: What players are on the roster bubble between making the
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: team and being cut? Who has stood out most during
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: OTAs Who has been the biggest surprise? Well, this is
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: what player will be the biggest surprise by making the team.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: He's got all this stuff. It's it's too early for that.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Too early.
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: We're not August fifteenth.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's too early for bubbles like bubble. Yeah, I
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: hate to burst your bubble, but we're not gonna put bubbles.
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: There's opportunities, you know, the backup guards, the backup interior
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: line behind Ben Brown.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: You know, there's probably a role there right now.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: I mentioned the cornerbacks, there's you know, some opportunity there
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: for you know, fourth fifth defensive back. I think Brown,
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: that sounds like I probably pretty I probably have him
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: as a lean into a roster lock. But I think
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: we've talked about a little bit of it kind of
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: leans into you know, I think you said you want
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: the Patriots maybe to consider playing more dime this year.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Is you know, where does that dime player come from?
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: Is it an extra safety, is it an extra linebacker,
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: is it an extra cornerback.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: You don't really know who that.
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: Depth is as you get into more of the sub packages,
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: so you know, and it's more to me than just
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: like can a guy make the team. It's like any
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: of these guys have something special, you know, like that's
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: you know, not I know special.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Makes it unique. But there's a bunch of different players
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: that I think will have opportunities.
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it's great in theory to say, oh,
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: just play six defensive backs. But the teams that lead
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: the league and usage of six defensive backs are the
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: Chargers with Derwin James and the Ravens with Kyle Hamilton
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: and the Seahawks with Nick Ammon. Worry they do it
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: because they have an elite player that plays that real
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: hybrid role. I don't know if the Patriots really have that.
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: You know, the guy that they have moved around those
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: is Mike Brown, who's played a little bit in the
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: back end, a little bit over the slot so far
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: this spring, and he's got a little bit more size
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: to him, I would say than like Adel Pettis, So
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: maybe you know, that allows him to play a little
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: bit closer to the line of scrimmage more effectively. So
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: I think in theory it would be great to do that,
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: but you know, you have to have the horses to
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: be able to be good at it.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: If you want to do it.
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: Actually, I've read an interesting article I've subscribed to Match
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: Quarters this week. I was like, you know, I'm gonna
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: do a little football research here to the offseason, and
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: he had a really interesting breakdown just.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: About the safety position for the Patriots last year and.
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: How really Hawkins and Woodson became such balanced players that
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: in the playoffs, they're blitzing them, they're dropping them.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: They're kind of interchangeable, you know, guys.
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: And what he surmises is, you know what happens with
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: Bayer Buyer more of like the traditional middle of the
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: field safety kind of type. Does that mean more opportunity
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: for Woodson maybe to focus on more of a traditional
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: you know, roll closer to the box.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Where he's gonna be able to make more plays.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: So I just, you know, I think there's some interesting
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: evolution that could possibly happen to along those lines. But
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: I think those three safeties are probably pretty much penciled in, all.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Right, Dan write sind he doesn't say where he's from.
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: Eric wouldn't like that.
- 1:11:45Speaker 9: Now.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: As I was watching Will Campbell's press conference during the break,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: I couldn't help but come away even more confident in him.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Sometimes I forgot how young he still is. I'm expecting
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: a big bounce back season from him, and I think
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: the offensive line as a whole is going to take
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: a major step forward. I feel like Campbell has gotten
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: a bit of a bad rap. Last season. He battled
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: through an injury and played more games than he had
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: ever had before, which isn't always easy for a young player.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Despite the criticism, I'm still a true believer in Will
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Campbell and what he can become. I think he's going
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: to prove a lot of people wrong this year. I'm
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: with you, Dan, team Campbell. It's an easy player to
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: roof for.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: I mean, I still like hit his performance in the
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: locker room after the Super Bowl when we were back
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: here and he kind of, you know, talked to the media.
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: It took some time out, but you know, he's been
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: a very st stand up guy. You know, the performances
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: are what they are, but it's easy to root for
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: somebody like that, who just you know.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: I like that he's measured and how he talks. He doesn't.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: You know, some guys when they first get here, I
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: feel like rookies in front of the camera, they'd say
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: they keep talking and talking, just stop talking, you know,
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: don't say too much. And Campbell seems to understand that
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: pretty much.
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: I just wonder if if he plays the way he
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: did before the knee injury the first thirteen to fourteen
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: weeks of the season, Like, how do we feel about that?
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Is that is that a good that good enough?
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: You know, I think it's it was probably middle of
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: the road, like average left tackle play.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: You know, that's just what he is.
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: You know, Is that good enough to commit to that being,
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: you know, the left tackle for the next five to
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: ten years or do you need better at that position?
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: I think is the question because I kind of give
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: him the benefit of the doubt about the playoffs too,
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: and the knee and you know, the gaumblet of pass
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: rushers he faced. But the the first fourteen games, if
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: we're giving them a kind of an out for the
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: playoffs because of the injury, do we feel like that's
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: that's good, that's good enough to win with I don't know.
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: I do, but I'm some other people might not.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: Sam's in North Carolina. What's up? Sam?
- 1:13:44Speaker 8: Hey?
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: What's hey? Sam?
- 1:13:48Speaker 19: I know my brain was coming up. And that's what
- 1:13:49Speaker 19: the critical that with Harry. So I love the spot
- 1:13:53Speaker 19: that we're in, Like, like, it's not going to be
- 1:13:57Speaker 19: fourteen wins this year. I want everybody to understand that.
- 1:14:00Speaker 19: But we've upgraded literally almost every position, and the fact
- 1:14:06Speaker 19: that ESPN and M is putting us at fourteenth like
- 1:14:08Speaker 19: that gives us something to prove, and that's what you
- 1:14:10Speaker 19: want I'm so glad they're not glossing us and like, oh,
- 1:14:13Speaker 19: the Patriots is great, they're going to be there. I'm
- 1:14:15Speaker 19: glad it's not that this off season. It gives us
- 1:14:18Speaker 19: something to prove and something to fight for. It Like
- 1:14:20Speaker 19: Brabel's got his situation, everybody's got a situation. I just
- 1:14:25Speaker 19: I love the fact that they're not gloss in us
- 1:14:28Speaker 19: this year. And how do y'all feel about that? And
- 1:14:30Speaker 19: I'll take it off there.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I really don't care that much about it.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: But if it works, it works. If they can use it, fine,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: But I don't think that one list really matters that much.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: It was based on an algorithm that they put into
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: a no, it's all numbers, a number number.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: But I think the bigger thing, and I've heard this
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: from some of the players that we've heard from early,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: is the schedule. I think that they're they want to
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: prove that they weren't a product of the schedule, and
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: I think they're they're using they're trying to use that.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: I think it's a rallying point.
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: That's a good one because because that's really a lot
- 1:15:03Speaker 6: of guys out of Jacksonville are like saying similar things.
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: About not being a one hit wonder and proving that
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: it has staying power and sustainability. But they're building. I
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: think both teams are in similar spots.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: But you know, they're you know, the coach, first year coach,
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: he's got to prove that it wasn't a flash in
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: the pan. So they yeah, they those are real things. Yeah,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: you know, that schedule thing was a real thing. It was,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: in fact, one of the easiest schedules in the last
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: thirty forty years whatever on paper. So that's a fact.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: It is a fact that this year the schedule on
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: paper is tougher. So if you do really well this year,
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: that goes a long way to saying this team really
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: is good.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: They didn't you know, Yeah, it could be the first
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: making of kind of and whatever. And I talked about
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: they had a special personality last year. They kind of
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: developed all these unique kind of off the field characteristics.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: This might be the beginning of, you know, something that
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: they try to latch onto and use as a coaching staff.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: The old nobody respects us. Nobody was bringing Rodney the
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: NFL season. Let him give them the pep talk. You know,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: no one believes in us. Everyone's against us, even though
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: we're favorite in every game. But that's all right, it works.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Deuce is onto something about serious football guys. In the NFL,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Dominican Sue, the All Pro defensive tackle for the Lions,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: gave his teammates the impression that he was unfriendly. One
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: teammate told the story of going to Sue on the
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: bench after Sue had recorded a sack to force a punt.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: Sue brushed him off. He didn't want to be bothered
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: with congratulations. After the game, the teammate confronted Sue in
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: the locker room. Sue reportedly said that when he got
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: to the bench after the sack, he immediately began visualizing
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: his next great play, and being congratulated was getting in
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: the way.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: So that's is that the focus you're talking about? Well, well,
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: I mean that's that's intense. I mean, that's the that's
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: the extreme end. But that's a lot of guys, right,
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: I mean, that's you can keep Yeah, that's I know,
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: he was he was a special guy, but you know,
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: generally speaking, yeah, I mean, and there's just you know,
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: there's not a lot of goofy guys, and.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: So I think those things are funny. Donik Cansou was
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: a really good player, right, I mean he was overshadowed,
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: that was overshadowed by his sturdy play. But he was
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: a really good player. Maybe could he have been better
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: if maybe he or was he as good as he
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: was just because of that, Like, I think you can
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: make arguments both both sides of that. I'm not suggesting
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: that he should be like this happy, go lucky gronk
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: type and not care about football, but maybe if he
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: was a little bit better of a teammate, might that
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: have made him a better player? You know, because that
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: doesn't sound like he was very much fun to play
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: with if he were on his team and he was
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: brushing you aside because he was visualizing his next great play,
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: like caldn't it be a little like well.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: You know, going back to the Patriots, I remember John Hannah.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: You know the stories were like before a game, you
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: don't go talk to John Hannah. He had he wants
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: nothing to do with you because he is like focused
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: like on the game and getting ready, and you don't
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: talk to John Hanna.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: Now could you talk to John Hannah after he like
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: blew out a hole so Sam Cunningham could run? I
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: don't know, my guess is you probably could. Yeah, you know,
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: cause I think a lot of guys before a game
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: is not the time to, you know, like ask how
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: the wife and family are.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: But I just know that Hannah was tough on his teammates.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: He was tough on it.
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: And then there's Michael Jordan who was like, you know,
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: this apex of being tough on your teammates. Tony Kukach
- 1:18:30Speaker 6: worked for him. I mean just you just put him in,
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: stuff him in a locker, you know.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: And Larry Bird was tough on his teammates. Yeah.
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: I think a lot of those guys are are just
- 1:18:40Speaker 6: like that, like, yeah, intense.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Well, I mean it's right. Maybe that's maybe that worked
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: for Sue as well. He was a really good player.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: I think he could have been better.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: I don't know if that.
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: You know, Jordan was more just like he would just
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: rip your heart out in practice and like just like
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: show it to you.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: It wasn't Tom Brady tough on his especially the receivers.
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean getting in the circle of trust was
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: the thing we talked about all the time.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, yeah, yeah, I mean I think that'd be
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: another one. I would but I would argue the suicide
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: of Brady like he was. He was ridiculously hot on receivers.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Maybe if he was a little bit relented. Now you
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: could make an argument, then he wouldn't have won all
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: those I would argue that maybe he might have gotten
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: a contribution or two out of someone else that didn't
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: really contribute, and maybe they would have won more.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it is just interesting.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: Like Gronk.
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: You guys pointed out Gronk, But at the top of
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: my head, I can't think of a ton of matt Light,
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: happy go lucky kind of guys.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: Maybe some linemen.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Yeah, the common denominator. Like, nobody worked harder than Gronk.
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: No one was more serious about football than Gronk when
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: he needed to be serious about football. But he had
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: that switch like when when we're just doing whatever I
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: can be, you know, Yosoi Fiesta.
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: But make no mistake, Gronk was an extremely dedicated, smart
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: for ball player. He knew what he was doing. Randy Moss,
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: you know, Bill Belichick used to call one of the
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: smartest players he was ever around. You know, so you
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: don't necessarily play football the way your persona is. You know,
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: in those cases, they might have come across as not
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: really caring, but they really, you know, they were very
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: serious about their craft as they as they say.
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: Rich Orenberger was another like goofy, funny guy offense.
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: I mean, there's a lot of guys like that defensive line,
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: but I don't know if they were they were like great.
- 1:20:32Speaker 6: You know, like there's a lot of guys in the
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: offensive line that we've covered that have been good players,
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: that were really nice guys or happy, go lucky kind
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: of guys, but they're not Hall of famers.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Got a lot of busts in the Hall of Fame
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: with big smiles. It's all yeah, you know. I mean
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: another Sam in North Carolina. He says, I hate listening
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: to people that have no idea about player development. They
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: talk like the player or players that were drafted or
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: a finished product. I think Will Campbell will make a
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: huge leap this year. He will never get extensions in
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: the elbow, but his athletic and he's smart enough to
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: learn and execute a technique to stop the rushers from
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: beating him outside in that counter move. Wilson is a center,
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: but got a full year of experience and now uh
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: slots back into the position. I think the line will
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: be just fine. If we can only get Joe Thomas,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: Joe Toney, Jason Kelsey, Zach Martin, and Lane Johnson, we'd
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: be all set.
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: Who's he talking about?
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: I think he's talking about people who look at a
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: player in their first year and say that's who he is.
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: Seems a little straw man to me.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: So they didn't have a great draft last year then,
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: because there wasn't that the consensus, like all those guys started,
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: you know, Wilson Campbell, Woodson, Woodson, I mean the kicker.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: I mean they had a good draft. I mean Traveon.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: Henderson's Julian Ashby didn't hear his name.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: Never once, Travon Henderson Like, So were they not as
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: good as everybody gave them credit for a share of
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: the draft?
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: I just hope they're better.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: They're going to be even better better you will, probably, right, Fred,
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: That's probably what he was getting at, Fred, right, that
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: you have a knack of being.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Able to watch the line. I'm crazy fans just like
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: they are, so I think crazy. Jean Luke from Tennessee
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: originally Rhode Island, I am shocked, shocked. He says that
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: no one has brought up when it comes to the A. J.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Brown trade. The last time the Pages traded a first
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: round pick for a wide receiver, it was twenty seventeen
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: for Brandon Cooks. I'm expecting at least a Josh Gordon
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: twenty eighteen impact without the off field problems from Brown.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: I hope it's a lot more than that.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: I hope it's closer to the Cooks right.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: I think the Cooks one's hard because they flipped them.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: Back for another first right.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: Right, yeah, Isaiah win huh yeah, exactly as.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: Fred called him when Isaiah Windard.
- 1:22:59Speaker 6: But because they traded it Isaiah, when they had two picks,
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: they could take Sony Michelle, but also another great one.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: Yeah. This might be more of a question for Barth,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: but Matthew and Cally has one for Evan. He says,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: are there any guys in the UFL that you think
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: would be good to bring in as depth for the
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Patriots catch tomorrow? The UFL?
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched a little of the playoffs more than quality, No,
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: I think I think.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: The kind of schemes we got going on.
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: A lot of it's NFL stuff because they're trying to
- 1:23:35Speaker 6: get those players looks for the NFL so it's their
- 1:23:38Speaker 6: pro style systems. It's not like anything gimmicky. Maybe it
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: would be if it was gimmicky, it might actually be
- 1:23:43Speaker 6: like more fun to watch. But they're trying to use
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: it as like a developmental league.
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: I mean, call me whatever, elitist, you know what, I
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: have absolutely no interest in watching anything less than Division one,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: COLL or NFL when it comes to football, nothing I have.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I have so many other things I'd rather be doing.
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: Yeah, every once in a while, there's a guy that
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: you know does get signed by an NFL team.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: In stick, there's a lot of NFL like names. I'm
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: not telling you their NFL players because there is a difference.
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: I mean, but he actually played.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: I mean, Jeremiah Farms is one of them.
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: Handler was on it. You know, he was in camp
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: a couple of years ago, wasn't he. kJ Hamler im
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: If you, if you like, put on a game and
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: you listen to say five plays, you will hear five
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: names that are familiar to you. Now, I'm not telling
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: you their NFL players because in a lot of cases
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: they went to camp, they didn't make it, and they're
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: trying to, you know, get another another sniff. But there
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: are names that you you've heard of, you know, like
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: a Keem Butler, you know Eldred's old friend who never
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: really made it in the league, you know, Ben Ben Denucci. Yeah, like,
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: there's not there's not a ton of talent, but there
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: are guys that are names like to your point for
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: and I get like, I'm with you. I don't watch
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: I don't watch these games either, but it's more so
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: because of the time that they were Like, you know,
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: it's nice out, I don't want to be sitting around
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: watching a football game. But they're all guys that played
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: Division one college football. Oh yeah, So it's not like
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: they don't have any talent, you know, it's just a
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: little ragged.
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: I just I just I still think back under the
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: roster players in the NFL should be able to play
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: in the spring leaks.
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: That's that's yeah.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: I wonder how the team, like if you ask Mike
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: Rabel in his you know, in the you know, Elliott
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Wolf and those guys, could you get the back half
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: of those roster guys more prepared to play by playing
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: right now in the UFL, or by being part of
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: your offseason program, and then if they played a ten
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: game season in the UFL. Now you're asking them what
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: you know, take take a month off, and then we'll
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: see you, you know, mid July.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: Are there like eight? I think like if UFL teams
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: were truly farm teams for the pro, so Josh McDaniels say,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: this is what I want you to run. These are
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: the things I want you to work on with this guy,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: it would have more value. But like it does like
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: you can't do what you're talking about because you can't like,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: I don't know what they're running. I don't know what
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: kind of system it. You know, it doesn't really prepare
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: you for my team.
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: But I think that there's ways around that because you
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: can it's not gonna be Josh McDaniels running it, but
- 1:26:29Speaker 6: you can have coaches that there's only certain like a
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: handful of buckets of offenses that are run, you know,
- 1:26:35Speaker 6: they're like so it's not like there's you know, all
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: thirty two teams are running thirty two different offenses. So
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: in theory, you could have you know, a couple of
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: teams are running you know, West Coast Shanahan style stuff,
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: a couple teams are running McDaniel's EP kind of stuff.
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: A couple of teams are running more spread college kind
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: of offenses like Washington does or whatever, and you could
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: kind of put your players on the different systems. I
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: just think, especially for I'm in in particular, the stuff
- 1:27:02Speaker 6: they're doing now, they might be learning more in terms
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: of the mental side of it, but physically there's no
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: development because they're not in pads and they're not hitting anybody.
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: So like, in just a in theory, like could a
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: Marcus Bryant get more out of actually getting live reps
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: against other guys that could be on a ninety man
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: roster in the NFL this time of year versus you know,
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: the pajama party that we're about to see in an
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: hour where they're you know, in a basketball stance just
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: trying to slide and say there might be I like,
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: that was the one time I thought Dan Campbell had
- 1:27:37Speaker 6: had a good line.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: So I hope, so what's going on and he's just
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: stop talking?
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: Well, I just I think it's a question too though,
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: just because we have a caller to talk about development
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: of players, Like, you know, do the NFL coaches feel
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: like they're unable to develop players? You know, like a
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: guy like Jeremiah Farms, who is through three regimes now
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: held on at the bottom of the roster, and he's
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: from time to time been called up and.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Filled in and you know, even been signed to the
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: active roster.
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: But would his like, would his career trajectory be any
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: different if he.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Was playing in games in the spring or you.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: Know, I just I think the question for me is,
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: do the coaches feel like there's a lack of development
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: and we can't impact these players, that they're not playing
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: a guy like Marcus Bryant, we don't have enough to
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: give them.
- 1:28:27Speaker 6: I think offensive line wise, yes, I mean that's just
- 1:28:30Speaker 6: what the narrative is around it. But I think it's
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: less about like, okay, Marcus Brian would all of a
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: sudden turn into like, you know, prime Joe Thomas, and
- 1:28:39Speaker 6: more about like, okay, Marcus Bryant might be a quality backup,
- 1:28:42Speaker 6: you know, with more live reps, and that just increases
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: the level of play around the league because these guys
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: are just the backups are getting better.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: I do think there's a way. I don't know exactly,
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: I don't have all the answers, but I do think
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: there would be a way to do what Evan's talking about,
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: maybe moving up a little bit, so by the beginning
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: of June. Like right now we're in the beginning of
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: June and they're in the playoffs. Maybe you move it
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: up a week or two so it's done by now.
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: You give the players that play in that league a
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: little time to rest and recuperate and still be able
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: to realistically get into training camp not all beaten up.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: You know, there's got to be a way to do it.
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: And maybe it's as simple as what Evan's talking about.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: You get, you know, all the offensive all the teams
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: get together and say what, okay, what kind of system
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: would you like your offensive players to run in? And
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: you put all those guys on a team that's going
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: to run, you know, some version of the McVeigh offense.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: You know, if that's what you want, and you know,
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: eight ten teams, you could probably figure it out and
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: get players the personnel, divide it up properly.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: Le's got to be a way up, like wrap it
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: up before the draft though, you know, like start it
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: right in February, like after the Super Bowl, and you've
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: got a guy like Marcus Bryan who's barely played and
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: you know it is in shape, and can you plug
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: him right into another league. It's not going to affect
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: the offseason here, you know. Granted he doesn't get a vacation,
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: he doesn't get any.
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: Off of play in March, in April, and then and
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: then you're done. You get on the roster and all
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: of a sudden, you know, May, you're finishing up the
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: regular season. You get a couple of weeks of playoffs,
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: then you're done, and then again you get some time
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: to rest before you have to get back here at
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: the end of July for camp.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: You mentioned Marcus Bryant, who's huge. I met the German
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: guy Lorez met. My god, he's a mountain. Is he
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: any good?
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: He's big, he's big, He's German.
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he speaks German.
- 1:30:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: He came in late last year and a practice.
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: Squat late last he walked through the locker.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: My god, is he huge.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: When we were over at the new facility, the new
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: balanced building, and we had that like walk through that
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: they gave us the little Dime tour and we had lunch,
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: he was in there, and it's just like everything just
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: stops when you see a guy that size. Yeah, like
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: just how much bigger? I didn't I said, I had,
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: I said I have a little instrud you know, he
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: is the Rinds.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but like it would be great if he was
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: really good.
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: I know, Well, it seems like they got a type
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: of tackle I mean Crown over Bryant.
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Matt, I mean.
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: The Campbell's ands Like Campbell and were very very similar builds.
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:31:22Speaker 6: So it's it's they go one way or the other.
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: They either go for those types of guys.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: On the left mountains on the Paul in the colony.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: If it happens, or it happened, what would hard Landry
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: be a surprise cut?
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: Yes, I mean injuries notwithstanding or impacting that, you know,
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: is it just in that regard, I would say more
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: of a retirement than like we're just gonna cut him.
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: I wouldn't be terribly surprised if he's not a part
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: of the team this year. But I think Mike just
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: illustrated it perfectly.
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: That would be the way, maybe the biggest X factor
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: for me on on the team right now.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: Just what where's he at? I mean maybe he's out there.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: I don't know what extent of his surgery he had.
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: I mean sometimes people have clean up surgeries in a
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: couple of months they're back in so maybe he's good
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: to go.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: So you have no idea what his status is, but
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: yet you say it would be a surprise cut if
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: they cut him.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Like I'm telling like, I wouldn't be
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: an overly surprising development if he's not on the team.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: But I just think that he would be like, you
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: know what, my knee's not responding.
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: Okay, one of the first picks they went and signed
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: when they got here. You know, the relationship between him
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: and Rabel they've talked about off the field incredibly close.
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: He was a captain last year. He had He has
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: a skill set at a position that's not the thickest
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: or you know, deepest or most proven position. So I
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: would be surprised. And I just there's a range though
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: of like come back and he's still really solid player,
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: or this is somebody who.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: We're going to need to replace sooner than later.
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: Yeah, unfortunately it has The thought has crossed my mind
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: of is he one of those guys? Remember James White,
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: you know, tried to give it a go. Two weeks
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: into train in camp. He was like, it's just not
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: it's not happening. The body's not bouncing back, and I
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: hope that doesn't happen with him, but it was something
- 1:33:07Speaker 6: that I thought about with Landry is it could go
- 1:33:11Speaker 6: that direction if you know, the knee just is chronic
- 1:33:13Speaker 6: and is just not going to get better.
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: And because we.
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: Don't even really know that last year was even a
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: mystery and that I mean, it looked like when it happened,
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: what was Saints.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: Oh like, it looked like that's it.
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: That was his aco or mcl at least, and then
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: it was like an ankle on the injury report. Then
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: was back to knee and you know, it was just bizarre.
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: They were still playing him at the end, but he
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: wasn't really anything like the player he was the first
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: four or five weeks of the season.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: Uh, let's see who's Noah in Toronto. I've heard a
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: lot of Patriots media members saying that the Bills roster
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: got worse this offseason. Alex Barth did it. Actually, they
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: didn't have any major personnel losses besides the guard David Edwards,
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: but add DJ Moore, Bradley Chubb, a lot of secondary
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: players plush theirs more specifically the coach McDermott for Brady
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: unknown skill positions, Reggie Gilliam, DJ Moore upgrade, O line,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: David ed David Edwards, Austin Corbett downgrade, D line added,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Bradley Chubb, t J. Parker upgrade and secondary Taron Johnson,
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: cam Lewis, go to d Alford, CJ. Gardner, Johnson, GINO Stone,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: blah blah blah. He thinks that's an upgrade.
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: So I think that that the biggest question is those names.
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: He said at the end. Defensively, they're turning the roster over.
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: Was the lot of those guys Milano, Uh, Tron Johnson,
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: who was a terrific player for them at the Nickel
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: for many years, their safeties like all these guys that
- 1:34:41Speaker 6: were the twenty twenty to the twenty twenty three, twenty
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: twenty four Buffalo bills. That for a wagon, those guys
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: are all aging out and they're they're turning that part
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: of the roster over. So is the email correct that
- 1:34:54Speaker 6: d Alford and these other guys are better than better fits?
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: Yeah, by the question there you know our t J.
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: Parker is t J Parker hit.
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: Bradley Chubb is one of the worst free agent contracts
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: anybody handed out all off seasons.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: So that one.
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: I don't necessarily agree.
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: But but you know these other moves that they've made
- 1:35:14Speaker 6: or to replace guys that were kind of like, you know,
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: big deals there that they were. They were pretty you know,
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: well known, like high commodity players for them for years
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: and and they've aged out. So you know, Milata is
- 1:35:27Speaker 6: still a free agent. You know, he's he's still available.
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: But those guys are getting replaced, and are they right?
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: Are they?
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: Do they hit on the replacements? Is gonna gonna be
- 1:35:36Speaker 6: the big question with them?
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: Darius and Louisville rights in. I want to say, love
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: the football season. And in the past I hated off
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: season because it took forever. But you guys make the
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: off season fast and fun, always good laughs and good debates.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: Keep up the work. One question, would you rather have
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: Brown and Dobbs each have one hundred and twenty or
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: more targets? Or have one you get one hundred and
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: fifty and the other seventy five.
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: I don't care if.
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: They're both gonna get that, if you're gonna get a
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: total of that much production.
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: Yeah, no targets, he said, targets.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: I mean, I'd say spread it around.
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: I just I mean to speak to the schedule, better teams,
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: better defenses. I think you gotta beat those teams by
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: a number of different ways. I don't think you're gonna
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: beat a lot of these teams because it's going to.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: Be the May and Brown show.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: I mean, maybe there'll be a game or two like that,
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: but I think these defense are going to challenge Drake
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: mate to spread the ball around. There's gonna be probably
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: plans to take Brown out of the equation, so you
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: know they're going to need some of the other lower
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: level receivers to step up too.
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: Jadarius writes in I was thinking about which player could
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: become the number three safety. Any chance second year John
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: Saunders Junior comes out of nowhere and grabs the spot.
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: Yeah, he's been.
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: Around, though we had a little bit out of the loop.
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: We haven't seen any Brown. Mike Brown was in there.
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: I am curious to see that. The tryout guy though
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: that they signed.
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: Why.
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: I mean, he's just got crazy. I mean he's got
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: the hair flowing. He looks like Troy Polamalam out there.
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: He you know, hits like a bunch of bricks. I
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: don't know if he if he can play at this level,
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: but he plays with good energy.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: So one guy interested to see.
- 1:37:13Speaker 6: Yeah, Saunder's been around. He was here last year for
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: a while and it's never.
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: Really heard anything.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Other than a rookie last year.
- 1:37:21Speaker 6: He's got good athletic profile. Big dude can run Colton Shreveport.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: We are officially getting into the summer down south, so
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: a little speculation time. While it's not a high value position,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: the big question I have on offense is what happens
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: post and when you For example, we draft low Moved
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: to potentially be replacing Morgan Moses. Do you think Big
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Mike gets extended? Is the replacement currently on the roster
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: like Ben Brown? Or are we investing a top one
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: hundred pick next year. I don't know. He had a
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: little restructuring. He had a restructuring going, no new money
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: or anything for him.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: This will likely be his last year. The female is right.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: Feel I think that this go in a lot of
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: different ways. I think you could, I mean you could
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: definitely look to the draft to replace him. I think
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: that's a spot you can go to free agency and
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: get sort of a solid guy, or you can you know, ideally,
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: he drafted a lot of offensive lineman, someone that you
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: are learning about emerges as a potential guy. Now, is
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: that Ben Brown? I don't know, but I think there's
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: a lot of different ways they can go. I would
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: agree that when you's probably not going to be here
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: next year.
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: Even just based off of the type of player he is,
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: and the guys that are targeting are all athletes and
- 1:38:36Speaker 6: you know, smaller but athletic, and he just doesn't fit
- 1:38:39Speaker 6: the mold of what they're going after with Campbell and
- 1:38:42Speaker 6: Lomu and Wilson and even Verak Tucker, Like, I think
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: they want to get a lot more athletic on the
- 1:38:46Speaker 6: offensive line, and that just doesn't fit Big Mike. You know,
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: he's kind of the one guy that stands out to
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: me that you know, if you count him as part
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: of the future and you assume Lomu's you know, at
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: right tackle instead of Moses in the future, it's like, okay,
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: so you're gonna have four really super athletic, you know,
- 1:39:04Speaker 6: maybe giving up a little bit of play strength, but
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: super athletic offensive lineman and then one three and forty
- 1:39:09Speaker 6: pound guard just sitting in the middle. It just doesn't
- 1:39:12Speaker 6: it doesn't jive with the rest of the group. So
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: I for that reason, I would think that this is
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: probably his last year.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: No, John Darius Morgan, is there anything there?
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: I mean undrafted guy, but I mean you kind of
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: know the rest of the I mean, Makai Butler's been
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: around a little bit, Roughs, it's just been the one
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: who's been in there.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: Kiden Wallace has been here for a couple of years.
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: There's just not a lot of guys that you know,
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: the guys that have been around unknown, so there's not
- 1:39:32Speaker 4: a lot.
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: Of Hoimen Wallace would be the guy that I would say,
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: in a perfect world, someone like that would develop enough
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: to be in the mix. Now it doesn't look like
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: he has, you know, through two years. But you know,
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: I don't know't wouldn't that be a better That would
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: be a better path to me a guy that you
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: took in the third round two years ago to replace
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: a big money left right guard, then going on the
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: free agent market and having to put big money into
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: a right guy again. Like, I just think that that's
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: a position that you should be world. You should be
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: able to save some money at right guard. And you know,
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: and no fault of his own, he's played well. He
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: earned that contract that he got.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: Just want to remind everyone. I don't know, maybe five
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: minutes or so, Rabel will be live. So at that
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: time we'll say goodbye, We'll feed you of Rabel's live
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: press conference in full. We'll head out to practice, and
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: then these guys will be back after practice at some
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: point with a recorded It won't be live, but a
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: recorded recap of everything they saw today. So full day
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: here at Patriots Unfiltered with Mini Camp. Matt writes in
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: I'm really excited to see Henderson break out this season.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: I think a lot of people are going to be
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: surprised with how much more effective he is given the
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: new talent we have at wide receiver and the old
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: line and the full back. What would the full.
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: Back is the biggest piece for him potentially if it
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: works out that way.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: What would be a break out season for Henderson? Looked
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: like to you? Break out?
- 1:41:06Speaker 6: I don't know, I mean he had nine hundred yards,
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: twelve yards, twelve hundred yards, yeah, you know, yeah?
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: Or I mean maybe rather than just focusing on the numbers,
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: just say like Rabel talked about the consistency, So maybe
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: he doesn't have four touchdowns of fifty yards or more,
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: but he just yeah, routinely covers you up for six
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: and seven at a time. Yeah, pass blocking and past
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: blocking crood. That's good. That's a good one.
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Ralph is in Haiti? What's up? Ralph?
- 1:41:38Speaker 8: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:41:39Speaker 5: Fellas?
- 1:41:39Speaker 20: I haven't called in a while, and I'm super super
- 1:41:42Speaker 20: excited about this year.
- 1:41:45Speaker 19: You have no idea.
- 1:41:46Speaker 20: I got the Haysion fan Club. We're about to get
- 1:41:48Speaker 20: it crazy and we're coming to jill As Stadium. This
- 1:41:50Speaker 20: this for the Scott game?
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: For which game?
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: Scott Gott? Yeah, Scotland.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: Okay, okay, all right, the whole what is hey? These
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: chances in that game?
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: Are you?
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: Are you gonna win?
- 1:42:03Speaker 20: Of course we're gonna win. What are you talking about?
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: Who's the best?
- 1:42:09Speaker 20: Everybody? Everybody, Let's put it that way. I'm not setting
- 1:42:13Speaker 20: up no disappointments. Yeah yo, but listen, I got two points, man, Like,
- 1:42:20Speaker 20: it's real quick. I don't know how y'all feel about it. Uh,
- 1:42:24Speaker 20: line looks good. Just move Campbell to the inside and
- 1:42:27Speaker 20: start the rookie and then after that, if we don't
- 1:42:31Speaker 20: get digs, I say, let's get a draft pick for
- 1:42:35Speaker 20: for Booty and then line up five receivers. Sounds good
- 1:42:38Speaker 20: with me with Brown and Hoping and Williams in as
- 1:42:44Speaker 20: a speasters, they'll get crazy. But if we do get Digs,
- 1:42:47Speaker 20: I'm not mad at it because he gets open regardless
- 1:42:50Speaker 20: how whether he lost speed or not, he still gets
- 1:42:52Speaker 20: open on those intermediate routes. And we line up those
- 1:42:55Speaker 20: those three top dogs, it's gonna be a problem for
- 1:42:57Speaker 20: everybody else.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: That's all. I gotta would be something to say, Ralph,
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: have a good time at the game. Absolutely, good luck. Yeah,
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: that is awesome.
- 1:43:06Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: Scott and Irvine, Kentucky.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: Scotland's uh minus one and a half.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: So oh that's a huge one. Yeah right, yeah, and
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: it's soccer and every.
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: Every game is assumed to end in the school is tie,
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: so minus one and a half is significant. That's like
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: being favored by like twenty eight boomer alert.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: I'll be rooting for Haiti. Why not. I got a
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: root for Scott. You have to because.
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: One team the US of A.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: Oh okay, the good that's it. No, they're not Johnny Patriot.
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: When it comes to the sports team.
- 1:43:44Speaker 6: Yes, they have like I think the tenth best odds
- 1:43:48Speaker 6: to win the tournament, which is you're saying that interests
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: and probably because it's home mostly.
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: But it would be great for them to do a run.
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: I just want to Can they win a knockout round game?
- 1:43:59Speaker 6: That would make doubt.
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: To me, sounds like from what I've gathered in my
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: limited research of this, that making the knockout round.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: That's like seen as if you do that, that's the
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: like ball.
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: If they don't, if they get grouped, then we're then
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: all of them can just walk home.
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: But if they they.
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: They should, they might have to should they should get
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: out of the group easily. But soccer, I would just
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: like them to win a knockout round game. I think
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: that would be cool.
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: That's like, what what's the best Evan non football is
- 1:44:28Speaker 4: like hockey? Evans basketball Evan or soccer? Evan basketball basketball?
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: Fred just so sneaky one. He sneaks up on you
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: with the soccer. All of a sudden he starts throwing
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: group stuff.
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: Anyway, I don't know.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: What that means. It means they laughed at me when
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: I said one of the Jays wouldn't be on the
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: team this year.
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: They're both still only it hasn't happened.
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: It's gonna happen. Uh, Scott writes in Your Discussions on
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: making a farm league seems unproductive. Let's talk about football UFL.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: We already have that in the college program. To expect
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: players to play in the offseason in preparation for the
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: NFL season. It's just oh, okay, we'll see you later.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: These guys, we're here at the practice. Here's Mike rabel program.
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: And the workouts.
- 1:45:17Speaker 5: Have you already seen some growth in Drake May and
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: if so.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: How so?
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:45:25Speaker 21: I mean, I think we've seen growth in a lot
- 1:45:27Speaker 21: of players, and especially some of the younger ones, which
- 1:45:31Speaker 21: I would consider Drake going into his third year, one
- 1:45:33Speaker 21: of the those younger players.
- 1:45:35Speaker 8: And I think that Josh and Ashton.
- 1:45:37Speaker 21: Have given him uh some really positive things to work on,
- 1:45:42Speaker 21: some areas of focus, and you know, being able to,
- 1:45:48Speaker 21: you know, try to try to limit mistakes at the
- 1:45:50Speaker 21: line of scrimmage right, get us in the best play
- 1:45:53Speaker 21: and and not that you know we're going to be perfect,
- 1:45:57Speaker 21: but being able to use every resources that we have
- 1:46:00Speaker 21: to to get us UH into the right play and
- 1:46:03Speaker 21: be able to give us an option to to have
- 1:46:07Speaker 21: a positive play. And you know, whether they're pressuring or
- 1:46:10Speaker 21: they're in a look that you know is an advantageous
- 1:46:13Speaker 21: to the play, and you know, we don't want to
- 1:46:15Speaker 21: be tentative, you know, so there's a fine line of that,
- 1:46:17Speaker 21: but I think expanding some of that into the second year.
- 1:46:21Speaker 8: The system has been good to see here in the spring, like.
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: Anything wise, share attendance or anything like that. Is everybody
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: here that you need.
- 1:46:32Speaker 21: Here, everybody under counteractor is here and account for so
- 1:46:37Speaker 21: as it relates to practice, you know, and everybody will
- 1:46:40Speaker 21: have different planet practice, and you know, some guys will
- 1:46:44Speaker 21: be full, some guys will be limited.
- 1:46:46Speaker 8: You know, some guys will work on the lower field.
- 1:46:48Speaker 21: But you know, it's been a good day and it's
- 1:46:51Speaker 21: much better than yesterday when when they weren't here.
- 1:46:54Speaker 8: It's been a great day to have everybody.
- 1:46:56Speaker 21: Back and you know, coach and teach and and moving
- 1:47:00Speaker 21: into the red zone, which is which is so critical,
- 1:47:02Speaker 21: which is somewhere where you know, we struggled defensively except
- 1:47:06Speaker 21: for the playoffs, which I think the big reason of
- 1:47:11Speaker 21: why we were able to get to where we got to. Offensively,
- 1:47:14Speaker 21: just too many negative plays and turnovers, so did a
- 1:47:18Speaker 21: lot of good things offensively, just pretty pretty average in
- 1:47:23Speaker 21: the red zone. Heaven has signed is key part of
- 1:47:26Speaker 21: that group that's here.
- 1:47:28Speaker 8: He's not part of that group. That's year great question,
- 1:47:32Speaker 8: go ahead.
- 1:47:33Speaker 21: Do you attribute his absence to last year we saw
- 1:47:36Speaker 21: rise in the second round picks pulled out until they
- 1:47:39Speaker 21: signed their contracts. Do you attribute it to that or
- 1:47:41Speaker 21: I don't attribute to anything other than you know, he's
- 1:47:44Speaker 21: not here and that.
- 1:47:47Speaker 8: He's not under contract at this current time. So I
- 1:47:50Speaker 8: don't want to say that there's a reason for it
- 1:47:52Speaker 8: other than.
- 1:47:53Speaker 21: That that's what it is right now.
- 1:47:57Speaker 8: Any physical again he had and he's not under contract.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: I know he's in the practice field.
- 1:48:03Speaker 9: Just bring how much, if at all, have you had
- 1:48:05Speaker 9: a chance to kind of work with him a little bit?
- 1:48:08Speaker 8: With Gabe, not at all.
- 1:48:09Speaker 21: We've talked and communicated and met him numerous times before
- 1:48:13Speaker 21: the draft process, but.
- 1:48:16Speaker 8: Not not on the grass. Has that been frustrating for
- 1:48:19Speaker 8: you that you know it hasn't, not one bit.
- 1:48:22Speaker 21: I've been excited to work with the players here and
- 1:48:27Speaker 21: I have learned that there's only so many things that
- 1:48:30Speaker 21: you can control and excited about the development of the
- 1:48:34Speaker 21: guys in that room, the ones that have been here
- 1:48:37Speaker 21: that you know are going into their second year, or
- 1:48:40Speaker 21: the ones that we drafted or the ones that we
- 1:48:42Speaker 21: signed in the post draft or the ones.
- 1:48:45Speaker 8: That we signed free agency.
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:48:50Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know, you know what I mean.
- 1:48:52Speaker 21: So I know that we were here for eight weeks
- 1:48:56Speaker 21: and ten eleven, no tas or whatever that is. I
- 1:48:59Speaker 21: don't you know, I mean, I can't, I can't say,
- 1:49:03Speaker 21: won't say. I don't think that's fair to anybody.
- 1:49:06Speaker 8: Harold Landry was still doing some rehab or physically at
- 1:49:10Speaker 8: this point. Uh.
- 1:49:12Speaker 21: Again, Harold's played a lot of football and uh and
- 1:49:16Speaker 21: so we just have to try to you know, this
- 1:49:18Speaker 21: is all part of everyone has a little different plan.
- 1:49:20Speaker 21: I think you guys understand that haven't spent a year
- 1:49:23Speaker 21: with us and kind of how we operate. So he's
- 1:49:27Speaker 21: very involved, very heavily involved in the meetings and the
- 1:49:30Speaker 21: workouts and in.
- 1:49:32Speaker 8: A leadership role.
- 1:49:33Speaker 21: And for for him to take reps right now in
- 1:49:35Speaker 21: the spring, I feel like is unnecessary.
- 1:49:38Speaker 8: And you know, we'll just keep working.
- 1:49:40Speaker 21: To to make sure that he's ready to go when
- 1:49:42Speaker 21: when we need him.
- 1:49:44Speaker 9: Some of the younger guys who have been here, specifically
- 1:49:47Speaker 9: about Brayden and Elijah, how they've done with the maybe
- 1:49:50Speaker 9: the added opportunities they've gotten over the court.
- 1:49:52Speaker 21: Well, I think physically they they both have worked really
- 1:49:55Speaker 21: hard with Frank and his group, and the time that
- 1:49:59Speaker 21: they spend away from here, however long that was, that
- 1:50:03Speaker 21: was evident when they came back. I just think from
- 1:50:06Speaker 21: a maturity, you know, from getting stronger and being you know,
- 1:50:12Speaker 21: better conditioned, and those things really stood out. And I
- 1:50:15Speaker 21: think that through the course of the you know, eight
- 1:50:18Speaker 21: or nine weeks, that that's that's become evident on the
- 1:50:20Speaker 21: field as well.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: Who do you have conversations with guys who are not
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: at OTAs or do you just move on at this point?
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: Do you talk about why they were not here?
- 1:50:32Speaker 8: Do I have conversations with guys that aren't here or ye, so.
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: Guys who missed OTAs, do you speak to them about
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: why they missed OTAs?
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: Or do you just move on at this point?
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: Now that you're in many No, those.
- 1:50:44Speaker 21: Are voluntary, I mean I I mean I talked most
- 1:50:47Speaker 21: of the players all the time.
- 1:50:48Speaker 8: There's communication, you know, whether they're here or or they're not.
- 1:50:54Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:50:54Speaker 21: So again, there's multiple reasons on our team and across
- 1:50:58Speaker 21: the league of why guys wouldn't be at a voluntary
- 1:51:02Speaker 21: workout and uh, just coaching when they get here.
- 1:51:05Speaker 8: That's usually the best plan of attack.
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: Have for Chington's alz back and just how gone with
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: him as he trust to negotiating from.
- 1:51:14Speaker 21: Good conversations have been great and talked to him about
- 1:51:17Speaker 21: his event last week and talked to him about normal
- 1:51:21Speaker 21: things that we talk about. And then you know, but
- 1:51:24Speaker 21: it's good to have everybody back in here that that
- 1:51:27Speaker 21: either was here last week or that wasn't. It's just
- 1:51:29Speaker 21: good to have a you know, almost a complete football
- 1:51:34Speaker 21: team here and excited to keep working.
- 1:51:36Speaker 8: So go ahead, so much louder with these vultures over here.
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: When it comes back to this tackle you had Kisa
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: and that one last year.
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: Cory dared and we supped with him last week and
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: he kind of said he anticipates filling that role in
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: moving into that spot. What have you seen from him?
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: This awesome?
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: He's a that and roll you into state him kind.
- 1:52:02Speaker 21: Of feeling, well, I don't want to fill any role
- 1:52:04Speaker 21: right now. I think that that will be an opportunity
- 1:52:07Speaker 21: for Corey. And by saying that, I'm excited for Corey.
- 1:52:11Speaker 21: I'm excited that we had a full off season with him,
- 1:52:14Speaker 21: uh that we'll have a full training camp with him.
- 1:52:17Speaker 21: He came in and quickly earned the confidence of the
- 1:52:21Speaker 21: coaching staff and his teammates and had a great play demeanor.
- 1:52:25Speaker 21: And so I'm happy for his ability to be able
- 1:52:27Speaker 21: to help us last year. But but again that has
- 1:52:31Speaker 21: to all be played out, you know, in training camp,
- 1:52:35Speaker 21: and there's other young guys and you know Lenny, Lenny
- 1:52:38Speaker 21: T and Josh Farmer and Gregory and and everybody else
- 1:52:41Speaker 21: that that those are all it's a good group and
- 1:52:45Speaker 21: I'm excited and I know the the defensive coaches are
- 1:52:48Speaker 21: excited about working with those guys too. So you know,
- 1:52:51Speaker 21: have just having him in the system another year and
- 1:52:53Speaker 21: being able to coach him in the off season and
- 1:52:54Speaker 21: coach him at training camp. Hopefully we will only help.
- 1:52:57Speaker 21: But he he did a lot of good things for
- 1:52:59Speaker 21: us last year.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: Did you know that he was going to need a
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: procedure when you drafted him.
- 1:53:05Speaker 21: Again, he just had to have a procedure And he's
- 1:53:07Speaker 21: not under contract. So you know, we're excited about the Gabe,
- 1:53:12Speaker 21: the person that he is, the play style, his production
- 1:53:15Speaker 21: in college and you know all that, And so when
- 1:53:19Speaker 21: that gets resolved, we'll have him in here and we'll
- 1:53:21Speaker 21: coach him and I'm sure we'll find a way for
- 1:53:24Speaker 21: him to help our football.
- 1:53:25Speaker 6: Team stay with negotiations with Gonzales at this moment.
- 1:53:29Speaker 21: I don't I'm not involved with the negotiations. I'm involved
- 1:53:32Speaker 21: with coaching this team like that. Nothing to have many
- 1:53:37Speaker 21: still owners, you know what I mean. I don't think
- 1:53:39Speaker 21: there's anything you know to report. I'll say that, all.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: Right, body has he been expecting to participate fully here,
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: and I.
- 1:53:49Speaker 21: Don't know if he'll participate fully just because I don't
- 1:53:52Speaker 21: think that's fair to him to just say, hey, you know,
- 1:53:56Speaker 21: go go run you know, twenty reps. Again, I think
- 1:53:58Speaker 21: the part of this is about evaluating where guys are
- 1:54:02Speaker 21: getting them, you know, reacclimated to what the new stuff
- 1:54:06Speaker 21: is that we're putting it in the red zone, and
- 1:54:09Speaker 21: then based on on how he does and and looks.
- 1:54:11Speaker 8: I think that that could that could certainly change.
- 1:54:14Speaker 21: But you know, again, we we want to be smart
- 1:54:18Speaker 21: with with everybody that we have, and you know, for
- 1:54:20Speaker 21: the guys that we haven't seen, I think it's only
- 1:54:23Speaker 21: right to you know, make sure that they're you know,
- 1:54:27Speaker 21: where everybody else is based on how.
- 1:54:29Speaker 8: We practice limited Yeah, just like everybody else.
- 1:54:34Speaker 21: Everybody has a plan and I got to make sure
- 1:54:36Speaker 21: that everybody's working and uh and getting what they need
- 1:54:39Speaker 21: to get.
- 1:54:40Speaker 8: Has been here for a week. How's everything going? I
- 1:54:43Speaker 8: think good.
- 1:54:44Speaker 21: I think the weekend probably served him well to be
- 1:54:46Speaker 21: able to take a deep breath and and get some rest.
- 1:54:49Speaker 21: I'm sure sure it was a you know, been a
- 1:54:51Speaker 21: whirlwind for him, but you know, he's excited about learning
- 1:54:54Speaker 21: the system and you know, eventually moving around and doing
- 1:54:59Speaker 21: different things, and you know, but I you know, I
- 1:55:02Speaker 21: think it's it's been great just having them around and
- 1:55:07Speaker 21: you know, just continuing to integrate himself into our football team.
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: Combine ask him the coaches to come up and free
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: some new ideas. When you guys reconvened, what have those
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: tried to achieve or unlocked defensively?
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: And are you pleased with the progress there?
- 1:55:21Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:55:22Speaker 8: You mean from the defensive side of the ball? Ah?
- 1:55:24Speaker 21: Man, I think you're always just looking. You know, the
- 1:55:26Speaker 21: spring is a time where the touchdown the touchdowns don't
- 1:55:30Speaker 21: count and the sacks don't count, and so you know,
- 1:55:34Speaker 21: I think you try to figure out different blitzes and disguises,
- 1:55:37Speaker 21: and you know, I appreciate what everybody brought to the
- 1:55:42Speaker 21: table and the ideas that they had in all all
- 1:55:43Speaker 21: the phases of first and second down, and you know
- 1:55:46Speaker 21: the things that we try to add on third down,
- 1:55:48Speaker 21: and then really try to shore up the red zone.
- 1:55:50Speaker 21: So the spring is a time where you evaluate the
- 1:55:53Speaker 21: stuff that you try to come up with and what
- 1:55:55Speaker 21: it may look like and what the issues are, and
- 1:55:57Speaker 21: then as you get closer to training, can some of
- 1:56:00Speaker 21: that may get paired down.
- 1:56:03Speaker 18: Mentioned red zone efficiency in terms of the personnel that
- 1:56:06Speaker 18: you brought in in the off season, both on the
- 1:56:07Speaker 18: offensive the defensive side of the ball, how much of
- 1:56:10Speaker 18: a focus was how how good they are in the
- 1:56:13Speaker 18: red zone in terms of bring guys in.
- 1:56:15Speaker 21: Well, it's a critical area. You know, it's a critical situation.
- 1:56:18Speaker 21: You know, we were you know, fifth in red zone
- 1:56:21Speaker 21: drives offensively, but unfortunately we're middle of the pack and
- 1:56:24Speaker 21: you know, too many negative plays, too many, too many turnovers.
- 1:56:27Speaker 8: Almost half of our turnovers were in the red zone.
- 1:56:30Speaker 8: So that that that hurts you.
- 1:56:31Speaker 21: There, uh, you know, and then defensively, just you know,
- 1:56:35Speaker 21: they have to be on body, you have to be
- 1:56:37Speaker 21: a tight coverage, making sure teams don't run the football
- 1:56:40Speaker 21: in on you, and just understanding how critical every yard
- 1:56:44Speaker 21: is and being great tacklers and communicating all the motions
- 1:56:49Speaker 21: and the prestat motions and in different routes, the combinations
- 1:56:52Speaker 21: that they have.
- 1:56:55Speaker 8: What are you looking for, team, Uh, you know that
- 1:56:58Speaker 8: you can rely on.
- 1:57:00Speaker 21: I can tell you the foundation you will build last
- 1:57:02Speaker 21: year is sulid enough and real Well, I mean, I
- 1:57:06Speaker 21: think that that's probably not gonna I don't know if
- 1:57:09Speaker 21: that happens during the spring. I think we can still
- 1:57:11Speaker 21: focus on on the things that we think are important
- 1:57:14Speaker 21: for our identity and and and when and how we
- 1:57:16Speaker 21: want to win football games and how we want to prepare.
- 1:57:19Speaker 21: But really a lot of that comes in training camp
- 1:57:22Speaker 21: and being able to to callus yourself.
- 1:57:26Speaker 8: Through through some of the rigors of the season.
- 1:57:28Speaker 21: So as we continue to build that foundation and how
- 1:57:31Speaker 21: we work and how we practice against each other, it's
- 1:57:35Speaker 21: going to be something that's critical and that's how you
- 1:57:37Speaker 21: improve uh in training camp that you know, some of
- 1:57:40Speaker 21: those battles that you have in training camp give you
- 1:57:42Speaker 21: a lot of confidence, you know going into the season.
- 1:57:46Speaker 18: That's help position to evaluate this time of the year.
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: But what have you've seen from land Larisen?
- 1:57:50Speaker 5: And Wow, he's grown from last year, especially overcoming.
- 1:57:53Speaker 21: It worked really hard and just to work through the
- 1:57:56Speaker 21: injury and work through uh and just continue to get
- 1:57:59Speaker 21: stronger and give himself another opportunity going into training camp.
- 1:58:03Speaker 8: So he mentally he's not a rookie.
- 1:58:06Speaker 21: I think just the experience probably may seem somewhat new
- 1:58:10Speaker 21: to him again when we get to training camp.
- 1:58:13Speaker 8: But you know, as a player that's trying to find a.
- 1:58:15Speaker 21: Role on special teams and and you're right, it is
- 1:58:19Speaker 21: hard to you know, have the paddle for the backs
- 1:58:22Speaker 21: is being identify where the pressure is coming from, what
- 1:58:25Speaker 21: their blitz pick up is, and then there's really not
- 1:58:27Speaker 21: much of a blitz pick.
- 1:58:28Speaker 8: Up, but everybody kind of stops once they get there.
- 1:58:31Speaker 8: So he's done a good job with that.
- 1:58:33Speaker 21: You know, a lot of that will come with the
- 1:58:34Speaker 21: pads and whether they can you know, break tackles and
- 1:58:37Speaker 21: and pick up pressure.
- 1:58:39Speaker 8: Thanks guys, Hey, this is Deuce.
