- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the Blazers, they really failed to do their due diligence there.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: And they needed to go all the way through the Twitter.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: The problem is, sports guys in Twitter, it's almost obnoxious.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Like the amount of tweets that they have put out, I think that they, them and like soulless bottom feeders are the one thing keeping X or Twitter, whatever we want to call it, still in play because sports people love it and they love to interact that way.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I bet it was a deep, deep, deep scroll.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: But there's a couple failures.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: The Blazers should have done their due diligence.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: His agent, when you signed with an agent, your agent comes forward to you and says, I'm here to protect you.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: We're going to do this the right way.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And the first thing they're supposed to do is go and check your social media and make sure that you're in lockstep with your team and with being a productive member of that team.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: That did not happen.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I bet you that KGW person was scrolling and scrolling to the point where they were probably about to give up.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: They're just all the way back.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, you probably didn't have another nine tweets left when you are going all the way back to the age of 15, and then what do we have here?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And here and here and here.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I am at the Stafford Hills Club right here in Twalleton, Oregon.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And if you're looking for a club for you, this is the spot it is voted.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: The number one health and wellness facility in the Portland area and for good reason.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Saltwater pool, brand new workout facilities upstairs, some of the greatest classes you'll find and next level instructors.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: But it goes from the top all the way down.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: These people are just genuine, kind, and the type of people you want in your community.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Check them out today, staffordhills.com.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Tell them Drew sent you for half op your initiation, looking over at Marcus, uh, where we do broadcast all of this on YouTube, and he is live from Eugene, Oregon, right now.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: We like to say via satellite or via internet.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Doesn't sound as cool.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So we're just gonna pretend we got a big fat dish on the roof at your house and my house, and they are touching tips right now.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, Marcus, how are you doing, bud?
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Doing good, man.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I just want to say the weather that we're having in Eugene and and probably the Willamette Valley as a whole right now uh is phenomenal.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: I know people are gonna complain about it.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: It hasn't gotten to that real fall stuff, but like t-shirt and shorts into October, I'm loving it out here right now.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: It's a great day.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's gonna be 80 degrees today.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, if you can't see them here on YouTube right now, but I'm rocking the shorts.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: And normally, you know, like I bring a specific shirt for this podcast, but uh I was doing fit for radio stuff that you can check out as well at fitforadio.com before this, and then I'm I look down in my bag, I'm like, no other shirt.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: So I got a little uh billboard of the other podcasts.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: But what you should know is if you go to fitforadio.com, you can access Marcus and I's uh content as well.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Right there in the top bar, you can go to PNW podcast, you can go back to Fitfor Radio, and of course, you just want to put in the handle pnwpodcast.com, that has it for you, as well as all the variations in case somebody wants to come in here and suckle off all of our hard work, Marcus.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: We're literally available everywhere.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: I've I've actually resorted, Drew, to having a copied uh note in my phone for people that text me, where can I find the Pacific Northwest podcast?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Where can I find PNWP?
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And I'm just gonna copy the message and send the same message to every single one of you because it is, as Drew just said, available where it should be and also where you wouldn't expect it, like on Fit for Radio's website.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: So just find a thing and click it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: For God's sakes, we're doing this three times a week.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: And it's nice though, because the layout as Parsa, my boy, my intern, before he went back to the University of Oregon, helped me piece it together all the new episodes.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Like as soon as this hits, boom, it's right up there on the website.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: First thing you miss anything, you can scroll back.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And now, while some things are current events, some things are evergreen, like talking about last week about the guy being under the boulder and getting saved by Siri.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Those things you can listen to whenever.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: And um, I I like to catch the show sometimes, like in the gym.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: You can also watch it on YouTube every single episode.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: And we've even talked Marcus into coming out of the dark ages and returning to Instagram.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: You can follow him at uh Marcus.pnw.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Is that it?
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: I made it so easy, Drew.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: I I want and it trust me, that was like seven iterations of that in, but I got it, and it's so easy for you guys to find.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah, check it out.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: You can always uh be there right with us, and we haven't missed an episode yet.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, sometimes one of us is gone, but we always make sure uh that we get an episode out for you.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: And you know, I was kind of hoping we had a Friday episode last week because uh crap kind of hit the fan over there for the Blazers.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Now, the Blazers announced their lineup of their announcers.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Now, Travis Demur is a personal friend of mine who's been on the Fit for Radio podcast.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: You can go listen to that, where we all just talked about.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: But he is the radio voice of the Blazers and does an incredible job.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: The amount of hard work and dedication that guy puts in is on another level.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: You should just see the cheat sheet he builds for each and every game.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: But he will be back as a radio broadcaster, but they named the TV crew, because remember, they kind of shook things up, and some people would say they went budget mode, or you know, Kevin Calabro, who was one of the greats of all time, was unceremoniously kind of let go from the team where he has gone and gotten picked up with the Timberwolves at this point.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: But they named the new guy, and a guy by the name of Braden Bell was teaming up with Lamar Heard, and they were going to be the team.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: And so they I see that in the morning, Marcus.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, okay, yeah, I don't know who this guy is, but it looks like a good team, good to go.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Three hours later, the Blazers fired him.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Three hours, and you wonder, God, why would somebody get fired in three hours?
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Well, after they announced him, people over at KGW, the NBC affiliate here in Portland, decided to go scrolling.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: And they scrolled through this guy's Twitter all the way back to when he was 15 years old.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is a deep ride, and the guy's, you know, he's he's in his 30s, I think, now, so it's been a hot minute.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: But he he said some things on Twitter when he was a kid that I would not condone in any way, shape, or form.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I I don't think, especially in this day and age, there's any room uh for saying things that can be deemed as racist or insulting towards women on the level that it was, uh saying things about Asian people and saying things and you know, calling women the S-word and and things along those lines, but you also have to take context.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So we're talking about a 15-year-old child, and I saw a guy who I I know from radio life who said it best, a 15-year-old boy is as smart as a fence post.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: They really don't know what they're talking about.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: And so so that's kind of where we're at with with that is he was doing the same thing we did.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: And you remember when social media first started, you just kind of would look at the phone and you're like, Well, what do I write?
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And so you just write some obnoxious thing.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Like, I remember times where I would just be like, so this person online said this, and then I would just be like, smash, smash, smash.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Now, nothing that would get me fired, but still completely unnecessary to just go in and start sniping people because you're just looking for something to say.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Um, but this came back to bite the guy in a crazy way, Marcus.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think, Drew, there is a an entire generation of people around our age, whether you're a millennial, whether you're one of those elder millennials or you're just uh edging out of that age group into the older generation.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: We're all sitting here today wiping the sweat from our foreheads and and thanking the Lord that we didn't have social media when we were 15.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Because I I joined Facebook my sophomore year of college, and at that point in time, you still had to have a.edu email address.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: You had to be enrolled at a university that was hooked up with Facebook at the time to even have a Facebook profile.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: So you're really limiting the scope of the amount of people on there.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: And I was already a legal adult.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: I could vote, I couldn't buy booze yet, but I could go get a gun.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, there was a lot of things I could do, but I think about it, Drew.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: And when you're 15 years old, especially a 15-year-old boy, you're 10 years, a decade from having a fully developed frontal lobe, which means that you can't think straight.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: And there's a lot of things that go on.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Now, I don't excuse this.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't have been posting this type of stuff.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Um, I've actually had this type of thing bite me before, Drew.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: I got a great story in applying for a job here in Eugene after uh we were done on the local radio station here.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: And they did a deep dive on me and they found a place where I told the Eugene Weekly, a stellar public uh publication down here in Eugene, to eat a whole bag of tube-shaped meats after they wrote an incredibly backhanded review of you and I winning best radio show in Eugene for like the seventh or eighth year in a row.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: Um, they were incredibly sharp-tongued.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: They said some terrible things about you and I, and then they posted it in their paper for everybody to read.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: I saw it, I shared it on Facebook to give them a couple of clicks, and I told them to eat a whole bag of them.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: And I had corporate call me from this job I was interviewing for and say, well, we're just really not okay with that.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: And I say, listen, that was 10 years ago, and I would say it again today with a little bit more uh volume in my voice than I said it back then.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I stand behind it.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: If you can't deal with it, that's fine.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: But this is a very different scenario, Drew, and maybe one that he doesn't even come back from.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: And you got to wonder, should we all be persecuted for our thoughts when we were 15?
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: This is a tough one.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, once again, you don't want to see that type of stuff on anybody's social media, but you almost sort of expect it from a 15-year-old kid.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And it's been a house divided online on how people feel about it.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Here's my issue with it biting him on this level when it happened when he was 15.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: You know, I've got neighbors who are that age and they're kids, and and they're respectful, but they also are at a different time where your parents now are warning you about those things that, hey, you got to be careful what you write, or maybe they're monitoring it straight up.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: But back when he's doing it, it's still the early days of Twitter where you know you say something and you think that it's fleeting, like almost like a fart in a wind tunnel, where it's oh, that's here right now and it's completely gone.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: But what we know now is that it unless it's erased, it's not gone and it's never fully gone.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: That a, you know, the government or whatever could probably dig and find whatever is even deleted, but without it deleted, it and without context, it becomes weaponized.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: A 15-year-old, so to say that he writes these comments, he's not even he's three years from being able to vote or be in the military or rip a cigarette back in the day before they changed it, and you're gonna tell him that he's already destroyed his life?
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Like, what's what is there to make you a good person if at 15 through two or three comments you have ruined your own life already?
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: That your dream job that you got, there are 32 jobs to be the play-by-play announcer on television.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: That is a finite number of jobs.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And the fact that you will never ever get to have one of those jobs because you said something as a child.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, you can commit a crime as a child and it can be hidden from your record forever.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: But words are going to smash you for all of time.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And if you look at it, it was less hate speech and more ignorance and being a complete child and a moron.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: And and and I'm not even cutting at his intelligence, I'm cutting at where you're at at 15.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: When we're 15, and I'm not I'm not saying this is okay, you're dumb enough to be in someone's car who's 16, and you open the window and say something terrible to someone who's on a walk.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: You make fun of their pants at a stoplight because you're like, ho ho ho.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: And luckily for us, nobody comes for your job later because in the 90s you said something out of the window that you probably hurt that person's feelings and more than anyone else on Twitter, but you're a child.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: And so I just don't and yet again, people are gonna hear this and they're gonna think that we're condoning the activity.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm not.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying, does the punishment fit the crime when you committed it as a not just a 17-year-old, a 15-year-old?
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: You're I mean, some 15-year-olds aren't even completely done with puberty.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Like you're not even you're not even developed.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: And and there's Drew, there's a whole nother side to this that I'm interested to get your take on here.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Um, because obviously we've been talking since we started this podcast about the Blazers under new management.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: It's been a very hot button topic, whether we're talking about the stadium, we're talking about the coach.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's been a lot of discussion points here.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: And what I'm seeing from a thousand feet up is a little bit of a bumpy start, kind of stumbling out of the blocks here a little bit.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: And I wonder, Drew, how it is that a organization in such maybe the most socially conscious environment of the entire NBA may be right up there against San Francisco, one and two with your Golden State Warriors, but how does a franchise in this city of all places fail to do their research?
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: If I'm applying for a production assistant job that's not even going to have me on the air and they're looking back in my Facebook feed a decade to try to find something that can disqualify me for the job, how is it that a professional NBA organization isn't doing their deep dive?
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: And is it a function of the fact that you just bought this squad and you showed up in town and you had no idea where you actually were because you saw it in action?
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: It took KGW less than half a day to not only go in and find this but share it, and then the guy was fired.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: That all happened.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: If you got to work at eight and you're taking lunch at 12:30, this all happened in the span of that first couple of hours that you're really putting in the productivity.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: And I just can't wrap my head around how the Blazers didn't do this background check first, because what you see here, they could have just, if they would have done their due diligence, they could have called the guy and said, listen, man, uh, we found this.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: We we think you should know about it.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: This job's not for you.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: And the public never knows.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: It gives that guy a chance to go back and get that out of his history and delete those tweets, apologize if he feels the need to, whatever the case may be, but at least maybe he's got a shot somewhere else.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Now that this is out there, I mean, there is there any coming back for him?
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Maybe, but it might be a decade down the road.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: He might have gray hair by the time he gets another job, like the one that he was lined up for and had for all of three hours.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: So that has been a real interesting part to me, Drew.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: And I'm curious your thoughts on it because I haven't heard very many people talk about it from that angle.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the Blazers, they really failed to do their due diligence there.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: And they needed to go all the way through the Twitter.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: The problem is sports guys in Twitter, it's almost obnoxious.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Like the amount of tweets that they have put out.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: I think that they, them and like soulless bottom feeders are the one thing keeping X or Twitter or whatever we want to call it, still in play because sports people love it and they love to interact that way.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: I bet it was a deep, deep, deep scroll.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Uh, but there's a couple failures.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: The Blazers should have done their due diligence.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: His agent, when you signed with an agent, your agent comes forward to you and says, I'm here to protect you.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: We're going to do this the right way.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: And the first thing they're supposed to do is go and check your social media and make sure that you're in lockstep with your team and with being a productive member of that team.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: That did not happen.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: I bet you that KGW person was scrolling and scrolling to the point where they were probably about to give up.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: They're just all the way back.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, you probably didn't have another nine tweets left when you are going all the way back to the age of 15, and then, oh, what do we have here?
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: And here and here and here.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: I will say this about the media, because even though we're a part of it in a slanted way, I don't hunt for people's souls.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Never have, never will.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: And so the person who found it, I don't know if you think or feel like you're Captain Savajo, but you didn't really help.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: You just went and found a way to smash somebody else down.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Like that didn't help the Asian community.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: That didn't help the female community.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: And I'm a triple girl dad.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: I need to reiterate that because it's not okay to call women those names.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: I I absolutely don't use those words in any way, shape, or form.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: But I also was a kid, an idiot at one point.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: And the things that were said by everyone, me included, were not appropriate all the time.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: And I like you, I thank my lucky stars that it's not there.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: But the last thing I will say about it, Marcus, is the Blazers' hands were tied because they have had so much bad publicity.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: If they stick with this guy and they're like, hey, we're gonna give him a second chance, it stays in the court of public opinion that they that they promote this stuff, that they accept these things, and there would be protests and picketers and stuff like that, people with megaphones, every game, and it would just be jaded and jaded and jaded.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: And oh, they support this guy who's who's a toxic individual.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: They needed to cut and run.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: And by doing so, they also kind of cut this guy's throat.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: Whereas in he, I don't think he can ever come back in this public persona like this because it's just gonna re- it's gonna unearth it.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: And like that company who didn't have you in over a review of the Eugene Weekly, which is the most biased publication in the history of God's green earth, like if that's going to keep you from getting work, this guy, dude, I don't think he can come back from it.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Not in such a publicly facing um role, Drew.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Not in Portland, that's for sure.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely not in Portland.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I'd be surprised if this guy finds work west of the Rockies at this point.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: And uh, the worse those tweets get, the further back you go, the further east and south you have to travel before you're gonna be accepted.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: So I might put in an application with the Atlanta Hawks kind of as a precursor to what is gonna happen in this dude's career.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: But um, it look, it's a bad situation all the way around.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Nobody wins here, and that includes the the publication that found these tweets.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: You already mentioned it.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: You're kind of just standing on somebody's head for clicks here, and you you might have ruined an entire career.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: And if you fight if you, as the person that searched that Twitter, feel like that is a responsible use of your time and your platform, there's nothing I can do about that.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Um, but again, like standing on people's heads, crushing careers just to get a few clicks, because guess what?
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: In the world of that news reporter, this story's gone in a week and you got to go find another one.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Are you stepping on more heads or you know, how are you gonna go about it?
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: No winners in this situation, Drew.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Bad news all around.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Now, if I was the guy who got fired, I would say, or I was his parent, I'd be like, why did you not go through your own Twitter?
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Like you'd just get about to get offered the job of a sent the sentry.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Like, you didn't think that you've said these things, but they're so far gone that he probably didn't even remember saying it.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, half his life ago.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: And listen, I again, if you want to fast forward or uh rewind back to when I was 22 and take all the things that came out of my mouth, that's half my life ago.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: You're not gonna like a lot of them.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: And that was even before I started uh with you guys on the radio, Drew, or right around the same time.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: So I happen to know that I was uh, you know, an ass.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of us are at younger ages like that.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: And um, I I I've grown as a person and I don't feel like I should be uh held over the fire for things that may have flown out of my mouth uh after 18 Coors lights at 22 years old.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: So I I don't know.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Again, you can't say that type of stuff, especially in 2026, and uh really there's no room for it.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: You know, there's free speech all you want.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Uh but if you're gonna put it out on a public platform like that, you got to deal with the consequences, and that's what we're seeing.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's true, and it's a Lesson for kids everywhere or adults.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: If you think that you can just say something and have it be in passing, it never will again.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: It's archived, it's etched into stone and it's there to haunt you.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, if that's how you feel, if you are like a big bigot or whatever, then go ahead.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Let the rest of us see who you are.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: But if you're saying something for clicks or to be funny, it's hard to even get context in text.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Or, I mean, if the inflection isn't there, you can't, sarcasm isn't there.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: It's just take it's black and white.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: So the Blazers have to pick up the pieces.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I will make a public plea right now.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Hire Travis DeMurs.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: He's a pretty man, he dresses nicely.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: He's he gums every game in a pair of Jordans and look good on the court there.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Him and Lamar have a have a great rapport.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: I know that uh those are the type of people who would who would love to have him there, and they'll probably go with somebody else.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: But I'm saying right now, you want to fix the problem, go with a proven professional and a good friend of mine, Travis Demurse, do it today.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, Marcus, we're gonna take a quick break.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: We're gonna come back in.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: We gotta talk about the Blazers, or not the Blazers, we've already talked about them.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: We gotta talk about the Beavers and how they put such a smack down on Colorado State that people were basically getting fired at halftime.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: The podcast is brought to you by Motorsport Hillsboro, where they have you dialed in.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Not only do they have incredible selection when it comes to everything from bikes, both road and dirt bikes, but also you've got the e-assist mountain bikes there.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: You've got uh side-by-sides, sea-does, all your watercraft you can imagine.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: They've got it dialed for you right there at Motorsport Hillsboro.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: And really, the thing that makes it all work is they've got the greatest financing around.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: The Northwest best, and nobody works harder to make sure they get you dialed in and you leave feeling comfortable and happy when you walk out of Motorsport Hillsboro.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: You got to check out their full inventory at MotorsportHillsboro.com and you will love it.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: And it's a mini museum down there.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: Look up in the rafters, spend some time.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Don't just come in for a dip and go.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: It's the kind of place where uh there is no price at admission, but it feels like there should be because it is incredible in there, and Scott and the gang will take care of you and get you out riding in no time.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Also brought to you by Axiom Plumbing, Sewer, and Septic, all things water and waste.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: They've got you covered right there.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: And my buddy Bruce over at Axiom is locally raised, and he is not part of some big private equity form firm.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: He is live and local right here in the Northwest, and they will dial you in.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: And if you tell them Drew sent you 10% off your first service, and it is starting to get into those colder months, it's right there on the horizon.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: So don't forget$500 off a new water heater if you're running into that.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: I was just dealing with that recently, and Bruce and the gang are the perfect people to take care of you.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Just tell them that I sent you all the details about what they can do for you at axiompdx.com.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: And brought to you by the Stafford Hills Club, which is the premier place in the Portland area to work out, relax, and just kind of take care of yourself.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: It's a sense of community around here, and they hold the door for you.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: They do all the things they want to see you at Stafford Hills.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: They have top-end tennis, a salt water pool, great workout facilities, and all the greatest classes you could imagine.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: And of course, high rocks training, the premier cutting edge stuff, and it's all happening right here at Stafford Hills.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Check out all the details on what's going down at Staffordhills.com.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: All right, we've got to give the Beavers some credit.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: We've been kind of talking about the momentum picking up for this team, and I think that it's more than just like, oh, they're not gonna get crushed every game.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: I think that they have a legitimate fight.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: Now they're gonna have to deal with Boise State and a couple other teams, but Oregon State, in the opener of the Pac-12 against Colorado State, just delivered an ass kicking over the weekend.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Um, 30-pointing Colorado State.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: But really, the story of the day, Marcus, is did you hear this?
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: That their defensive coordinator, now he's been getting throttled uh week in and week out, and he has a long history at some really big programs, a 20-plus year career.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but Jim Mora, also known as Jim Mora Jr., now they just dropped the junior because dad's not around, but he came there from Yukon to write the ship at Colorado State, and things were going so sideways against the Beavers that you can see Mora screaming and yelling on the sideline.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Like it was it was like a domestic incident was happening on the sideline to the point where he was so mad, so mad, in fact, that he must have said something to this coordinator.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: And I don't now Mora claims he did not fire him on the sideline, but something was said to the effect to where the coordinator up and walked out of the game in the middle of the game, something I have never seen in all my years of watching college football.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: Did you hear about this, Marcus?
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: I did, I did, and uh it's it's been a rough go, like you said, for this coordinator, uh Tyson Summers Drew.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: Um, allowed 193 points over five games.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: That's 38.6 points per game.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: And you cannot win college football, allowing almost 40 points a game.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: So, but this this version of Jim Mora kind of reminded me of the old UCLA Jim Mora, maybe back to maybe some Atlanta Falcons days, Jim Mora.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, pretty animated guy in his younger days on the sidelines.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: So I wasn't surprised to see him uh going after his coaches like that, but it just to get up and walk off, take the headset off and walk into the locker room, change your clothes, get on the bus and go home.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: And this is twice now in the last about three weeks that I've seen somebody walk off of one of the highest levels of professional competition.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, don't know if you saw just a couple weeks ago on the PGA tour, a notoriously bitchy golfer.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, he ended up just making a comment about why his caddy had an umbrella in the bag, and the caddy was so fed up with him that he dropped the bag on the ninth hole and walked off the course.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: Not something you see at this level very often.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Um, but big news is Colorado State uh gets beat by 30 again, and now they're without a defensive coordinator because Mora was asked about it in the post-game press conference, and he said very seriously, this is a permanent move that was made following tonight's game, and he was very cut and dry about the fact that this will be the end of Tyson Summers' tenure with the Colorado State squad.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: And Summers, if uh a lot of people don't know this, there's there's a weird power struggle there too, because when the last coach was let go last season, he was the interim coach for the final games of the season.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: And after the season, Mora decided that instead of to just bounce him and and write the ship of power, he was gonna keep him on.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: So you know when you're like you're the coach for a second and then you're not the coach, there's contention.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Now, the stats speak for themselves, those numbers are jaw-dropping, and not and it's not like Alabama did it to you, no offense.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: But the Beavers, who are just now coming out of the dark ages, throttled you.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: 30-point rule.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you did this playing video games growing up, but if there was a kid waiting for a controller in a game of Madden, you get down by 30, it's pass it over, dude.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: So, you know, you have to walk off of uh the video game, kind of like this guy had to walk out of his career.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: But what do you think, Marcus?
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: I think it's career suicide to leave mid-game.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, the only way it's probably not, Drew, is these coaches anymore, they end up with their all the connections that they make at all of these other stops.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: And you see it, uh, you know, Dan Lanning's a good, uh, a good representation of this.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: He's already got a coaching tree, right?
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Will Stein and uh Tosh Lupoy off coaching their own major college programs now.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: If something fell apart with the ducks and Lanning got fired, he'd pick up a job in no time somewhere else.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: But you have to wonder when you sit this guy down for the interview.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: That's the first question.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Hey, if stuff goes wrong, which it often does in the middle of a football game, can I count on you to keep your headset plugged in or am I gonna have to tether you to the bench to keep you on the sideline?
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Um, just a bad look, but I wouldn't be surprised since he's a coordinator and this wasn't a head coach, if he does find a job somewhere.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: You know, you could pick up an offensive or defensive analyst position somewhere and crunch numbers for a few years until you fight your way back into a coordinator position.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Um, but that typically happens if you leave big programs or mid-size programs, not programs that are uh called the Colorado State Rams.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: It's not a very big program, Drew, and uh it's obviously not in very good shape right now if you're getting uh 56 put up on you by a bunch of standout freshmen for the Beavers, albeit freshmen.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: That epic wide receiver from Maryland, he I don't know how he fell off everybody's radar, but he had another magical day.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: And so did their quarterback.
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, what are some of those stats there?
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: Was didn't he just go ballistic?
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Braden Atkinson almost perfect on the day, Drew, 31 for 34, 427 yards and five touchdowns through the air.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: And Jesse Legree is this standout freshman you're talking about, showing up on Bolitnikov watch lists, and I do believe leading the nation, or at least in one of the top five spots as far as yards through the air are concerned.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: He had five receptions, okay, not the biggest day, but he turned those into 156 yards uh and three touchdowns.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: So a 30-yard average on near five receptions and three scores on the day.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: This guy is making a name for himself in a hurry, Drew.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: And the Beavers are uh officially up off the mat.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: We started off 0-2 here.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: Uh Coach Shepard came out and said, Stop cheering for us just because we look good in a loss.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: That's all Corvallis needed to hear.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: The Beavers are three-two, and that offense looks electric.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's the opening game of the Pac-12.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Everything's in front of them.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: They do have to deal with Boise State as Duck fans.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: We both watched it live and in living color.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Well, it looked like the Ducks were stumbling.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: Part of that is Boise State's a good team, and against lesser competition, they're gonna be dangerous.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: I think that Beavers Boise State game is a major game to watch.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: That wide receiver, LeGree, is that his last name?
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: He has almost a thousand yards and the season just started.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: Now, you're not some of those teams you're playing in preseason are lighter competition, but I don't think this is a paper champion.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: I think this kid is gonna be great.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: If Oregon State can find a way to retain him, they got to find a little bit of NIL money because this guy, if he's in his right mind, he's gonna get an agent who's gonna go, bro, I can make you millions right now.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: You want to go to Oregon?
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: You want to go, you want to go to the SEC?
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: Just wave the wave the wand.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: And with the transfer portal, it's very possible for him.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: I hope it doesn't happen.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling this beaver team this year.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I'm hoping that the coach stays, I'm hoping that these guys stay, and that they can make a run, and that this can be a building block for the Beavers.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Because I think that even Duck fans felt like this was disrespect, how they kind of just got left behind when we went to the Big Ten, and it was just, it almost feels like the stepchild got left on the porch and and it wasn't fair and they didn't deserve it.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I mean, listen, call Big Daddy burrito right now.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: I know there's a lot that gets made about the NVIDIA connection with the uh the founder of NVIDIA's wife being in the position that she is of leadership at Oregon State University.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: And every time NIL comes up with the Beavers, you hear let's get some of that NVIDIA money.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Well, at 42 years old, I've bought enough Reese burritos out of vending machines to get a little bit of money injected into the team that plays at Reese Stadium.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: So, like I said, call Big Daddy burrito, get some burrito and potato salad bucks in your pocket and start paying these guys because if they stick around, we're right back to looking at an Oregon State Beaver team that was, you know, challenging teams like Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl in the early 2000s and probably would have been worthy of playing for a national title that year back in the BCS days.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: So we don't have to look back that far for some really, really good beaver teams and some really good players.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Your Rogers brothers, your Steven Jacksons, your Ocho Cinco, and TJ Hushmanzada.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: These guys all came through Oregon State, stayed there, had good careers, and then went on to do great things.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: It's not impossible, and it's not that far off in the future if the Beavers keep playing like they are.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and now there's more funding for the Ducks, but there was a time when it was never gonna be possible for the Ducks to win a national championship.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: And somebody's gonna write in the comments, well, you don't have one, and we know that, but it also there was a time where it just wasn't possible.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: I remember when I was a freshman in college and I had a buddy who was a junior, and and we finished the season ranked seventh, and I was like, oh my god, that's awesome! Like, do you think we could win a national championship?
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: And he looked at me and just said straight up no.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: He's like, it's just not gonna happen.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: The juggernauts, and that was back when there was only two teams at the top, and it was also voter-based.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Like, so it wasn't ever gonna be fair.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: They were always gonna take the blue bloods.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: And back then it was like, no, if you're not the cornhuskers, well, we know how that's all worked out now.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: So if it can happen for the Beavers as well, and there's an automatic bid for the winner of the Pac-12.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: So even though Oregon in the um predictions on ESPN say that they're number 12, we're out.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: And if Oregon State wins the Pac-12, they're in.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter where we sit if we're at the back end of that pot.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited to see what happens.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: I'm excited for Beaver fans to have something to cheer for.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: I think I've got at least one buddy who's like, yeah, college football is dead to me because he just figured his beavers suck.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Have a little bit of respect for the process, and you know, they brought in a guy in their coach that they believe in that has an energy and a fire, and he's got these kids motivated.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: I think it'll be great.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: I'm so stoked we're not playing them.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: They love to go giant killer.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: They have stolen, and you were talking about how they played Notre Dame hard in the Fiesta Bowl.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: They have straight up stolen our glory multiple times.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: It's like Thanksgiving weekend multiple times just destroyed us back when we would play him final game of the season.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: I don't want to get too far ahead of myself here, Drew, because there's a lot of football left to be played.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: But as we sit right now, there is a world where Oregon and Oregon State end up playing one another in the college football playoff.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: And if that happens, you better batten down the hatches and make sure grandma's inside because this state will collectively lose its mind.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: And you gotta remember if you're listening to this from outside of the Pacific Northwest, they're like right there.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: I gotta go way past the Beavers to get to where Drew's at from Eugene.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: They are right there.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: And uh this, I mean, this would be pandemonium, and I would love what it means for Oregon football as a whole, not just the Ducks, but the Beavers as well.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: Um, and and I'm just like you, Drew.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: We don't have to play them this year.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: Every bit of extra energy I've got is going to the Beavers this year, and I'm following this, man.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm in.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm on board.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: And if you are, if you've been a Beaver fan in the past, it's time to turn back on the television because there's something there and the energy that when there is a rivalry game between these two schools, it's you go to buy every business and there's a painting in the window.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: There's stickers on the cars, there's license plate frames, like all of a sudden everybody is back at it, and there's like an action and an energy.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: And it's been a long time since it's been a fair fight.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: So I would be okay with it happening in the playoff.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: If Oregon State steals my soul again, I might have a different take.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but at this point, I'm all about the Beevs.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: I would love to see them get as far as they possibly can, and I'd rather them make it in than the boys in blue over at Boise State because they've been playing us pretty tight themselves.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: And if it's gonna be someone, I'd rather it be the Beaves and not Boise State, even though they technically are part of this PNW podcast.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: I I can uh really paint a picture for you about this rivalry, Drew.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: It wasn't the last game that I went to between the Ducks and the Beavers at Reese Stadium.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: That was with you and uh Amy just a couple years back.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, but the game before that at Reese Stadium, between the Ducks and the Beavers, walking into the stadium, and like a 13-year-old uh girl reached into a bag of wonder bread and tore off about half of a slice of bread and threw it at my feet.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: And I kind of thought for a minute, what are you doing?
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: And I looked up at her and she's like, hungry?
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: And just turned around and walked out.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, this is a 13-year-old girl punked me.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I'm standing there with my wife.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: I'm punked.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: So that's that's what I'm looking forward to getting back to.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: That girl is my hero.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: I can only hope that my daughters are that intense, and they are.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: They when they go to games, they're just like, no mercy.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: They won't wear one art and they love to wear whatever color they want.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: They will not show up to a duck game in an opposing color because they know better, and I won't give them a ride home.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Um, Marcus, thank you so much for coming on.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: As always, uh, we are here doing it everything to do with the Pacific Northwest.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: Follow us online at all the different handles, and of course, you can catch all episodes at the PNW podcast.com.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: Get on board and get in where you fit in.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: Have a great rest of your day, Marcus.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: We'll see you soon.
