- 0:00We're back with Jim Moore on the Yukon Football Coach and show. It's you
- 0:02Mass to wrap up the season. I want to talk to you coach about
- 0:06the other guy. The other coach, Don Brown, is the defensive coordinator
- 0:10type head coach. Second stint over there. He really made a difference.
- 0:13A couple of years ago. You Mass was like one thirty in the country.
- 0:16Defensively got him down to fifty five. They got three wins. They
- 0:20just beat Army. This team is going to be a problem, and I
- 0:24know Yu Khon is looking forward to the challenge. He's done a really nice
- 0:29job there, and you see the improvement when you shurn on the film regardless
- 0:33of the record. You know you don't have to look at the score to
- 0:36see improvement. And he's got a big, physical offensive line. They've got
- 0:40two really good running backs. They've got a quarterback fancered In from Clemson,
- 0:44a local kid who's done a really nice job for him. Got hurt a
- 0:47little bit earlier in the season, but he's rolling again. They've got a
- 0:51very good receiving corps. A quarterback from last year's playing tight end and he's
- 0:55a threat down the field. And then defensively. You know, that's what
- 0:59he's outstanding. And you know, they do a lot of things and they
- 1:03do them well. And I've always had great respect for him, you know,
- 1:07before we became you know, coaches playing against each other. I used
- 1:11to watch him. I used to watch him when he's in Michigan and try
- 1:14to feel some things that he did well and and use them and you know
- 1:21whatever. I wherever I was at the time. And then when he went
- 1:23to Arizona, I actually was on the sidelines once. Jed Fish is a
- 1:27friend of mine, and I went and watching him play University of Colorado and
- 1:32and coach Brown was the d C. So I kind of stood around him
- 1:34a little bit on the sideline, trying not to get his way. He
- 1:37just was really impressed with the way he did things. It was he's really
- 1:42something special. Yeah, he you know, I think throughout his career people
- 1:47might say, well, he's blitz happy. Does he still do a lot
- 1:49of blitzing? Do you expect to see a lot of that Saturday? I
- 1:53think you always have to prepare for it with a guy like that. He's
- 1:56aggressive in nature, but you know, I think that he does what he
- 2:00needs to do to win the game, you know. And if that's pressure,
- 2:04then he brings pressure. If it's playing zone, he plays zone.
- 2:07You know, he's not he's not a stubborn man when it comes to that.
- 2:09You know, he's uh. He's going to take every situation and analyze
- 2:14it and do what he thinks gives us his team the best chance to win.
- 2:16And I haven't have great deal respect for him because of that. Yes,
- 2:21Don Brown, the head coach at U MASS. They got a wide
- 2:23receiver who's not a big man, Anthony Simpson, but he's got some big
- 2:27numbers. Jim fifty one catches three touchdowns. This guy's a bluefield Connecticut kid
- 2:32that went to Arizona and then transferred to you Mass. When when you look
- 2:38at it, I always look at five ten receivers and I wonder how do
- 2:40they do it? He finds ways to get in the cracks of defense and
- 2:44make stuff happen. He's got a thick lower body. He's not he's not
- 2:49small. He's actually a physical receiver, but he can really run. He
- 2:54was at Arizona with coach Brown. They have familiarity. When he decided he
- 2:59wants the transfer and come back this way, you know, we were hoping
- 3:01that he choose us. He chose UMass and he's made the most of it.
- 3:07Like he said, he has fifty one catches and then he has about
- 3:09thirteen or fourteen carries as well on jet sweeps and things like that, or
- 3:13bubble screens where they throw the ball backwards. And he's a dynamic player,
- 3:16and he's someone that we certainly have to keep in check because he's got the
- 3:22speed and the explosiveness to get away from and make a big play. Now
- 3:28you mentioned Tyson Putma John Where's number three? Obviously his brother was with the
- 3:32Huskies for a bit. Here's a guy. We saw him two years ago
- 3:37at Clemson, played quite a bit with them, and then went to Georgia
- 3:39Tech. I mean, this is football these days. Guys are just going
- 3:43place to place to place. We only got about a minute or so,
- 3:46but I mean, it's just amazing how people move from school to school.
- 3:50Yeah, I think it's it's really interesting. I'm sure it's probably a little
- 3:53bit frustrating for fans that you don't want to watch a young man play his
- 3:58entire career somewhere, and then the certainty it causes for players, for coaches,
- 4:02for families for fans, But it is the world that we're in and
- 4:08it's important that we adapt to it. We adjust, and we may not
- 4:13love it, but it is what it is and we've got to make the
- 4:15best of it. And I think certainly he's making the best of his opportunity.
- 4:18I'm really impressed with the way he's playing the game this year. Yeah,
- 4:23I had an early injury in September and was able to bounce back.
- 4:26Tyson Pumachan, He'll be a challenge for the Huskies on Saturday. Jim,
- 4:30always a pleasure. Good luck this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your
- 4:34family. You two Mike, have a great, great week, all right,
- 4:39appreciate it. That's Jim Moore back with Jackson Mitchell and Kylie shicksll join
- 4:43us as well, and the Yukon Football Coaches Show continues
