- 8:25let's move over to The Advocate columnist and Life on
- 8:29the Old Dirt Road by editor Bobby Thorpe Springtime. Springtime
- 8:35on the old dirt Road was always fun. It was
- 8:38a time when Mom's flowers would bloom in the yard.
- 8:41The birds would build nests in the tires hanging on
- 8:44the porch that were converted to hanging flower pots, and
- 8:47a time to play in the yard. Mom had easter flowers, roses,
- 8:51and tulips planted in tires that were cut and turned
- 8:54inside out. Some were also cut and hung on the
- 8:58front porch. In the front yard, we had an old
- 9:01metal swing set with a metal slide. We also had
- 9:04a tire swing hanging from the June apple tree. Another
- 9:08swing made from a rope and a piece of board,
- 9:11was on the hill behind the tar paper house. We
- 9:14also rode our bikes along the yard and Mom would
- 9:17make us a pitcher of kool aid and ice. We
- 9:20cooked out on a warm day on concrete blocks and
- 9:23an old wreck from a stove oven. Instead of using charcoal,
- 9:28we used old pieces of wood. Many spring evenings were
- 9:31spent on the front porch watching the moon stars, and
- 9:34in late spring we saw a lot of lightning bugs.
- 9:38We also enjoyed waiting in the creek and catching crawdads
- 9:41and minnows. Skipping rocks across the creek was also so
- 9:45much fun. These are wonderful memories of springtime on the
- 9:48old dirt road. Next, let's move over to building a
- 9:53healthier Breathitt County one Step at a Time by James
- 9:56Elliott Turner, the second of the Breathitt County Circuit Clerk
- 10:00to Day a lesson improgressive overload. Perhaps the most enduring
- 10:05and powerful legend associated with Milo of Croton is the
- 10:08Bull story, a timeless tale illustrating foundational strength training principles.
- 10:14Legend holds that Milo began strength training as a young
- 10:17athlete by lifting and carrying a new born calf daily
- 10:21on his shoulders. At first, the calf weighed little, making
- 10:25the task relatively easy. Nevertheless, as the days passed into weeks, months,
- 10:29and even years, the calf grew larger and larger, incrementally
- 10:33increasing Milo's training load without him consciously focusing on the
- 10:37additional exercise resistance. Over time, this young calf developed into
- 10:42a huge, mature bull, Yet Miloh was still able to
- 10:45carry it daily on his shoulders, a feat so impressively
- 10:49symbolic of his enormous strength. The gradual increase in load,
- 10:53no matter how small each increment was, eventually resulted in
- 10:57incredible levels of strength. Thus, the tail embodies what contemporary
- 11:02fitness enthusiasts now identify as the principle of progressive overload,
- 11:07which is recognized by modern training experts as a fundamental
- 11:11core principle to developing muscle strength and size. The historical
- 11:15significance of the bull story, while the precise historical accuracy
- 11:20is uncertain, the story symbolizes more than simple physical strength.
- 11:25It represents how discipline, dedication, and consistency in training yield
- 11:29significant physical capabilities. Ancient cultures had limited knowledge of exercise science. However,
- 11:36the intrinsic wisdom in Milo's method conveys timeless practical knowledge
- 11:41inherent to progressive strength acquisition. The concept underpins almost every
- 11:46modern strength and conditioning program we have today. What modern
- 11:50day bodybuilders can learn from Milo? Modern bodybuilders and strength
- 11:56athletes might benefit immensely by closely examining MYLOA legacy. While
- 12:01technological advancements, a wealth of commercial supplements, professional competitions, and
- 12:06training equipment have all drastically evolved, today, fundamental principles remain
- 12:11remarkably consistent. Let's delve deep into what bodybuilding enthusiasts can
- 12:16extract from Milo's timeless legacy. The principle of progressive overload.
- 12:22Perhaps the most critical lesson Milo's legend imparts to modern
- 12:26strength trainers and bodybuilders, is detailed in the progressive overload principle.
- 12:31Simply put, to continuously built muscle and increased strength, you
- 12:34must gradually expose your body to increasing stress and resistance
- 12:38levels over time. Milo's method of continually increasing load by
- 12:42carrying a consistently growing calf is an iconic illustration of
- 12:46this principle. Modern evidence based strength training has repeatedly verified
- 12:51this idea Scientifically, progressive overload does not necessarily always mean
- 12:56lifting heavier weights each session. It can also be achieved
- 13:00through more repetitions, greater resistance, reduced rest periods, increased training volume,
- 13:06or using more challenging variations of exercises. Milo's approach vividly
- 13:11demonstrates why consistency, combined with steady incremental progression is incredibly potent.
- 13:17Modern fitness participants who learned and understand this concept can
- 13:21avoid plateaus and continual frustration employing patients without rushing or overtraining.
- 13:28Consistency is key. Another lesson drawn from Milo's example is
- 13:33consistency to become strong or muscular does not require a
- 13:37single heroic effort, but continued discipline over months and years.
- 13:41Milo was not known for sporadic exertions. Instead, he persevered
- 13:46daily strength, hypertrophy endurance. Indeed, any physical improvement emerges directly
- 13:52from regularly applying continual stress to your body. Modern bodybuilders
- 13:57must appreciate and internalize this. Lesson training consistently ranks far
- 14:02higher in importance than perfectly optimal training sessions done rarely.
- 14:06Setting routines and sticking steadfastly becomes essential in achieving desired
- 14:11long term goals. Next two short announcements. The Easter Extravaganza
- 14:17will be happening on Saturday, March twenty eighth, two thousand,
