- 0:47So if it's 7:00, we're gonna keep going.
- 0:50I'm not stopping until everybody gets in the hot seat tonight.
- 0:53All right, So Speaking of the hot seat, come on, you can't be
- 0:55shy. I'm not sure.
- 0:57We got this tiny camera. We got this microphone.
- 1:00We can't be shy. It's like when we're in a in the
- 1:02plane, you know everybody right here.
- 1:05It's right here. Who's going to get the armrest?
- 1:06That's the biggest fight. If if we had to sit next to the
- 1:09chair, you'd win. I'll just let you.
- 1:11I'm blowing. Out I just sit like.
- 1:12This on blowing out on the plane.
- 1:13Introduce yourself here, my friend.
- 1:15Hi, I'm Johad Jones. I'm the Sprinter Hunters coach
- 1:18at South Arkansas. University, The fighting mules
- 1:23things, mule writers, mule writers.
- 1:25Yeah, we had Joseph. Blue on the podcast run through
- 1:31Essay U back in the day. He told us an amazing story on
- 1:35the podcast the first time he went into Arkansas.
- 1:37I won't get into it. You'll have to listen.
- 1:39To it, I'll hear it. But it was quite amazing.
- 1:42So tell me, John, how many times have you come to the convention?
- 1:45This is my second. One second War.
- 1:47I was on that no last year for the first.
- 1:49Time this is #2. So there's a big difference
- 1:52between your first one and second one, right?
- 1:53First one? You had no idea what was going
- 1:55on. You have a little better
- 1:57understanding. What are you looking forward to
- 1:59the most this year at the convention?
- 2:04I get the biggest thing I'm trying to do is we focus on my
- 2:07background because this year I'm not coaching.
- 2:08The jobs. Okay, since last year had this
- 2:10French turtles and jobs, so I tried to hit as many different.
- 2:14Advanced penalties as I can, yeah.
- 2:16This year I'm going to focus in on just printing hurdles, so I
- 2:18can really just hone in on what I'm trying to protect.
- 2:21So I think that would make it a better experience.
- 2:23I don't have to, I'm. Surround as much?
- 2:25Is there someone specifically you're looking to to listen to
- 2:27Today Tonight or Sorry This Week?
- 2:30Yeah, I want to hear Ernie. Of course I want to hear Ernie.
- 2:33Another Gill podcast alum, by the way.
- 2:34Yeah, those. All the good guys and gals are
- 2:37on the podcast. I'm just.
- 2:38Saying yeah and then. I wanna drop in on Tony Beanie
- 2:41as well. Man, I didn't know Tony was
- 2:44here. What a legend.
- 2:45Because I actually coached against Tony when I was coaching
- 2:47at Northpark College. He's at in a Valley, yeah.
- 2:51So I would ask Tony all the time, a lot of questions.
- 2:54So it would be good to hear him speak instead of.
- 2:58Speak to a crowd, because I usually just get one-on-one,
- 3:00right? So this would be a new.
- 3:02He's a good one to ask a lot of questions if.
- 3:04Oh yeah, well, to knowledge I I always enjoy talking.
- 3:06To him, yeah, yeah, maybe he doesn't get his due, to be real
- 3:10frank with you in regards to how good he is in our sport as a as
- 3:13a track and field coach. Yeah, because he's been a lot of
- 3:16places. He's done a lot of great things
- 3:18and I think he has a lot to offer, so.
- 3:20Whenever I bump into them, I have to talk to them.
- 3:22That's awesome. So we got question rule that.
- 3:23That's awesome. Well, we're having a little fun
- 3:25tonight. I've got 100 random questions.
- 3:28They're all numbered one through 100.
- 3:29You get to be. There's the only part of the
- 3:31destiny You get to do is the number.
- 3:33And then I get to ask the. Huh.
- 3:35Yeah. Question.
- 3:36Rule. That.
- 3:36That's right. It's all in your mind right now.
- 3:37Spinning around. What number did it stop on?
- 3:40I'll go with my football numbers, go 15.
- 3:42Yeah, that's a common. Way to get the number, because
- 3:46I'll, I'll always ask what, what's the significance?
- 3:47My old football number. Yeah.
- 3:49All right, end game man, who is your favorite comic book
- 3:52character? Favorite comic book character?
- 3:56Oh man. Growing up I watched a lot of
- 4:00Superman and Batman, especially the Batman cartoons.
- 4:02Those were fantastic. I have to go with that because
- 4:05that reminds me of my childhood. But now, as an adult, and I,
- 4:10even though he is a villain, I really did enjoy.
- 4:13Yeah, I agree. Marvel so.
- 4:16There was something being a bad guy, but there was something
- 4:18like you're just kind of drawn cuz there was like that duality
- 4:21of like the weight of the responsibility is on me to do
- 4:25cuz he really thought he was doing the right thing.
- 4:27Yeah, Like he was convinced that his idea was great and it might
- 4:30have been a great idea. I just think execution.
- 4:33I'm sad idea is where the ethical wise we.
- 4:35Thought and execution is the right word.
- 4:37We just executed half of the all the humanity there.
- 4:40Yeah, he did. I don't go to the movie theaters
- 4:42very often because I'm a cheapskate, so I wait till they
- 4:45get to Disney Plus. But my son's birthday was this
- 4:48past weekend and one of his birthday wants was to go see
- 4:51Wakanda forever. Have you seen that?
- 4:53One yet? Oh yeah, we actually took the.
- 4:56We took the team, most of the team we are nice.
- 4:59We went as a team to go watch it on the.
- 5:02Weekend that it came out, so we used it at the team bonding and
- 5:05loved it. It was an awesome movie.
- 5:07You know, I did not have Black Panther comic.
- 5:09I was a comic book guy, but I never got Black Black Panther
- 5:12comics. So I didn't really know that
- 5:14character very well. So I knew, you know, I actually
- 5:17had the original comics, if they know Steering Infinity, where I
- 5:19actually had all those as well. But they knew all the
- 5:22traditionals, the Captain America, Spidermans, all those
- 5:24kind of stuff. And so when Black Panther, the
- 5:26original, came out, I remember telling my wife I was like, I'm
- 5:28probably going to go like it because I don't know the story.
- 5:30And it was amazing. Yeah.
- 5:32And then we're kind of forever. And I was like, well, for sure.
- 5:34I can't like two in a row. They're not gonna, you know,
- 5:36look me in there. It was amazing.
- 5:38Yeah, like you. Know with another weak
- 5:39character. By the way, Neymore was another
- 5:41guy. Ohh yeah nice.
- 5:42Ohh yeah the the more was an awesome.
- 5:43Character Awesome. Like I I I don't think you need.
- 5:47Watch the first one to understand.
- 5:48The second one, I don't think so.
- 5:50It might help, but I don't think so.
- 5:51Yeah, yeah. Because I I think that two
- 5:52standalone stories is obviously with the death of black guys,
- 5:56Mmhmm. Of Chadwick Balzin, yeah, they
- 5:57kind of put that in there. But the the story is standalone,
- 6:00yeah, the first one. It was amazing.
- 6:02Well, wrap us up here. Jihad, what are you looking
- 6:04forward to the most in the 2023 track season?
- 6:07Oh man, I have a young team so I am really interested in seeing.
- 6:14How my freshman adept and my sophomores bounced back from
- 6:16last year, so I have a really heavy freshman sophomore team.
- 6:19So I want to see how my youth adapts to this new environment.
- 6:24I'm sure my junior seats will be OK because they're they're all
- 6:27mature. And have a few grad students, so
- 6:29like I don't have to worry about that.
- 6:31But I'm interested to see what my freshman and sophomore is
- 6:33doing this. Well, no doubt under your
- 6:35tutelage and what you're going to learn here this week and the
- 6:37people that you allow to pour into you, they're going to do,
- 6:40they're going to do really well. They're going to be your great
- 6:41juniors and seniors coming up that you don't have to worry
- 6:43about. You can leave your new
- 6:44sophomores and freshmen that come.
- 6:46In Oh yeah, definitely. Because like all the information
- 6:48I get here goes back home with me and it goes to them.
- 6:51Well, this gets to go back home with me.
- 6:53I get to do a selfie. All right, man.
- 6:57Thanks for being on the show. I really appreciate you, man.
- 6:59Yeah, we can have a great season.
