Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Life, Life. Hey everyone, EMILYA body here. You are listening
- 0:23Speaker 1: to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. I've been getting a
- 0:26Speaker 1: lot of messages this week about traveling, which is fair
- 0:30Speaker 1: because I've been doing a fair amount of it and
- 0:33Speaker 1: I wanted to chat about that for this week's episode.
- 0:37Speaker 1: The questions are mostly revolving around routine. How do you
- 0:40Speaker 1: make time for a movement and working out when you're
- 0:44Speaker 1: out of your normal How do you prioritize it when
- 0:46Speaker 1: there's so much to do? And candidly, it depends on
- 0:50Speaker 1: what's happening. I will say that I know for certain
- 0:54Speaker 1: that I feel better when I move my body. And
- 0:56Speaker 1: because I know that, and because moving my body is
- 1:00Speaker 1: important to me and I have a strong why connected
- 1:03Speaker 1: to it, more often than not I will factor that
- 1:06Speaker 1: in when I think about what I want to do
- 1:08Speaker 1: during the day, whether I am walking through Kyoto or
- 1:12Speaker 1: simply where I am right now, which is in Santa Monica, California.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And that could look differently, right, that could look like
- 1:20Speaker 1: a dedicated workout in which I book something like some
- 1:23Speaker 1: sort of a boutique fitness class like spin or yoga
- 1:27Speaker 1: or gym time using class pass, which yes, I'm still
- 1:30Speaker 1: on class Pass and I'm obsessed with it. I'll put
- 1:33Speaker 1: my referral link in the show notes. I think get
- 1:36Speaker 1: to a free month. Actually, So whether it's using class
- 1:39Speaker 1: Pass or just on a whim, maybe I'll book a
- 1:42Speaker 1: class or some gym time. And if it's not that,
- 1:45Speaker 1: maybe I'll factor in time for a run. And if
- 1:48Speaker 1: it's not that, if I do have a ton of
- 1:50Speaker 1: things that I want to do, then maybe I'm thinking
- 1:53Speaker 1: about movement in a little bit of a different way.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I'm thinking about walking around from point A to point B,
- 2:00Speaker 1: thinking about how I can do what I want to
- 2:02Speaker 1: do while incorporating more steps. I'm maybe not taking an
- 2:06Speaker 1: uber a mile down the road, but instead walking a
- 2:09Speaker 1: mile down the road. It's all a give and take
- 2:12Speaker 1: and prioritizing the things that are important to you and
- 2:15Speaker 1: also knowing that sometimes it's just not gonna happen. Period.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Right now, I'm getting really excited about strength training again.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Feels really good to lift heavy weights. And I'm traveling
- 2:29Speaker 1: for business. I am seeing people I don't get to
- 2:32Speaker 1: see very often. I am incorporating meetings and running from
- 2:36Speaker 1: point A to point B, and so that meant that
- 2:39Speaker 1: today I didn't get in the strength workout that I
- 2:41Speaker 1: was hoping to do, and you know what, that's okay.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Life goes on beyond incorporating regular movement. My biggest tips
- 2:50Speaker 1: there knowing your why, knowing why movement is important to you,
- 2:53Speaker 1: and allowing it to be a flexible thing, knowing that
- 2:56Speaker 1: it might look different when you're on the road than
- 2:58Speaker 1: it might at home, and that's totally fine. Beyond that,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I would say other things that help me keep my
- 3:05Speaker 1: mind and body in check when I'm on the road
- 3:08Speaker 1: include incorporating my regular supplement routine that means ag one
- 3:12Speaker 1: and element on the road always, and then also making
- 3:17Speaker 1: it a priority to get good sleep. Even though I am,
- 3:21Speaker 1: you know, a dinner and drinks kind of gal. I'm
- 3:24Speaker 1: not a late night kind of person, and that doesn't
- 3:26Speaker 1: change when I'm away from home. So thinking about hotels
- 3:30Speaker 1: that have great beds, great blackout curtains, looking into that
- 3:35Speaker 1: before I book them. I'm serious. These are things that
- 3:38Speaker 1: I do. And beyond that, beyond sleep, I'm also making
- 3:43Speaker 1: sure to maintain my mindfulness practice when I'm on the road.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I am so excited that this morning, probably by the
- 3:50Speaker 1: time many of you listen to this, I'm going to
- 3:52Speaker 1: finally check out the studio of Open in Venice. I've
- 3:56Speaker 1: been looking forward to this day for such a long time,
- 3:58Speaker 1: and so I'm going to be doing my mindfulness practice
- 4:01Speaker 1: that I usually do at home IRL and I cannot wait.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And besides the breathwork and the meditation that otherwise when
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'm not in the studio I do on the open app,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I'm also finding the time to journal. And because it's
- 4:14Speaker 1: marathon weekend, I'm taking my soon to be official sister
- 4:19Speaker 1: i e. My dad and her mom are getting married,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and I'm taking her to a contrast studio where we're
- 4:24Speaker 1: gonna do a sauna and cold plunged thing. Right, It's
- 4:27Speaker 1: just I know how I like to feel, and I
- 4:30Speaker 1: know how these things feel as a part of my routine,
- 4:33Speaker 1: And just because they might look different when I'm on
- 4:35Speaker 1: the road doesn't mean that I'm not taking that into
- 4:39Speaker 1: consideration when I'm wherever that I am. So know your why,
- 4:44Speaker 1: know why these things are important for your life, for
- 4:47Speaker 1: making you feel a certain way, and then do the
- 4:50Speaker 1: best you can with what you have to accomplish that feeling,
- 4:54Speaker 1: knowing that it might look different than when you're at home.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And again, that is totally fine. Find the grace. Find
- 5:02Speaker 1: the grace. My question for you, what is something, whether
- 5:06Speaker 1: you're on the road or just kicking it at home
- 5:08Speaker 1: this weekend, that you can do that makes you feel
- 5:11Speaker 1: good in your body? What is one thing that you
- 5:14Speaker 1: can do to feel good in your body this weekend,
- 5:18Speaker 1: no matter where you are. And now a listener question. Hey, Emily,
- 5:24Speaker 1: big fan of the pot over here. I was just curious.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You do so many things, and you do them all
- 5:30Speaker 1: so so well. Does keeping so many pots on the
- 5:34Speaker 1: stove ever get to be a little bit overwhelming for you?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Excited to hear your answer. Thanks so much. What a
- 5:40Speaker 1: good question, and I love the phrase keeping so many
- 5:43Speaker 1: pots on the stove. I will say this sometimes, yes,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I do get overwhelmed, and sometimes I do need to
- 5:49Speaker 1: completely withdraw, And more often than not, I'm proactive about
- 5:56Speaker 1: knowing that inevitably that's going to happen, asking myself regularly,
- 6:02Speaker 1: how can you own your no? What is it that's
- 6:04Speaker 1: within my power that I can do so that I
- 6:07Speaker 1: can stave off overwhelmed, so that I can feel more
- 6:11Speaker 1: in control of my day to day. For me, doing
- 6:14Speaker 1: a multitude of things, whether that's podcasting or hosting or
- 6:19Speaker 1: creating content or working with brands in a myriad of
- 6:22Speaker 1: different capacities. This keeps my life interesting and it really
- 6:26Speaker 1: excites me. But with that said, I am constantly being
- 6:30Speaker 1: pulled in a number of different directions, especially when I
- 6:34Speaker 1: integrate balancing a personal life, my movement practice, my mental health,
- 6:38Speaker 1: my family, so on and so forth. So I am
- 6:42Speaker 1: proactive about doing the things that I need to do
- 6:45Speaker 1: to put on my metaphorical oxygen mask so that I
- 6:50Speaker 1: can continue to show up in the best way possible
- 6:53Speaker 1: in all of the different capacities that I try to
- 6:56Speaker 1: on the regular And when that overwhelm comes, which it
- 7:00Speaker 1: does every once in a while, I know that that
- 7:03Speaker 1: means that I need to take time for myself. I
- 7:05Speaker 1: need to shut it down. I need to either spend
- 7:07Speaker 1: some time at home in my apartment or go to
- 7:10Speaker 1: dinner by myself, or do something that is me knowingly
- 7:14Speaker 1: taking care of me, making Emily happy and asking myself
- 7:19Speaker 1: what is good for Emily, knowing that that question is
- 7:22Speaker 1: not selfish, and more often than not, I should be
- 7:26Speaker 1: asking myself that question even more than I already. Do
- 7:31Speaker 1: you got to take care of you? Trust me, It's
- 7:34Speaker 1: important make sure you're following along with hurdle over on
- 7:37Speaker 1: the socials. It's at Hurdle podcast. I am over at
- 7:39Speaker 1: Emily Avadi. Another hurdle conquered and side note, good luck
