- Dr. Michaela: Good morning, Kim. Welcome to the Sky Talk Doc Podcast, talking about one of my favorite subjects today, which is wellness, all things wellness, and your company SNP and the incredible things you're doing with Nutrogenics. I am ready to dive in, share with the listeners a little bit about how you got into the field you're in, and and maybe I've s I pronounced it wrong. Neutro Neutrogen give it give it to the listeners for me, because I think I'm not I haven't had my coffee yet today. yeah, dive in, let us know all about what you're working on and how you got where you are. Kim Ressler: I love it. Hi, Dr. Michaela. It's so great to be here. yes, it's SNP Nutrigenomics. So, Nutrigenomics. I know that's why the website's not SNP Nutrigenomics, it's SNP Nutrition, because Nutrigenomics is terribly hard to spell. Anyway, once you see it a couple of times, it's not. But neutrogenomics is a study of your DNA. And the nutrients that are required when you have genetic variants or vulnerabilities. So that's what it is. It's been around for a long time. It's been very complicated and confusing to be able to apply, right? Imagine opening up your genetic code, going, How do I read this? And then what do I do? we are bringing to market a way to simply map heavy-hitting actionable genes that impact us in aging and then custom formulate on them. So Yeah. Dr. Michaela: You know, I I I recently dove into a book that talks about the mother gene, what is it, MTHR, all these different genes, and how they're kind of like a light switch, right? So like we could go through our whole life and never have the light switch turned on, or something could turn them on. th certain things will predispose us to more likeliness of those genes being activated. And so it's really fascinating all the stuff that's coming out. It's kinda it's kind of fun. my son is in chemistry and he's he's learning about all of these different things right now and the biological processes and how they all tie together. And it's fascinating stuff. I'm like, gosh, I wish I paid more attention in science when I was a kid. I kind Kim Ressler: I love it. Dr. Michaela: of took the liberal arts approach, you know. So so share with me some of these genes and are we talking about things as aggressive as like ALS and dementia and Alzheimer's, what are we really looking at? Kim Ressler: That's a great question. So we're on the preventative side. So we're not going after quote unquote disease. We're going after systems of the body. Our philosophy truly is if you understand where you have your. I mean, we I think there's so much much mistrust right now, right? And there's so many people that are truly sick. It's my story. It's how I ended up here. 11 years undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, blood work looked normal, didn't feel well, symptoms kept compounding year after year after year. for answers and I would see a naturopath. it's adrenal fatigue. Let's hear these $300 worth of supplements, PMF five days a week, you know, and did it help? Yes. But did it have the long stay power? No. And it's it's there's I I'm one of I'm one of so many people that's looking for answers, right? It wasn't until I understood my own genetics. So what we're looking at, we're looking at systems of the body. Remember, in and you're you're talking about your son and looking at how these how these, you know, basically the what happens in these chemical reactions or whatever, right? So we can't just go after one gene either. They our body works in symphony. Right. one pathway leads to the next pathway. You know, where's the bottleneck? So we need to I don't believe that people should be taking forty, fifty supplements. I think they need to be taking what's right for their body. and we start with that that approach. Understanding. So I'm gonna just give Dr. Michaela: Well, it's it's kinda like it's kinda like if you went to the doctor for a broken arm and they're like, We're gonna cast your entire body, like that would be ridiculous, right? But that seems like what we do. It's like, you gotta take this, you gotta take I saw a hilarious meme that was like You know, when I was younger, it wasn't easy because I was younger. It was easy because a Flintstone vitamin fixed everything. It's like now you've got to do acupuncture and massage and drink hydrogen water and take all the supplements. Don't forget you're beat twelve. You g it's like I can't even with all of this. I give up. Uncle, uncle, I'm waving the white flag. Like Kim Ressler: You just said it. I believe that we need simple things. So let's talk about the different areas that nutrigenomics supports. It's heart health, it's your body's ability to detox, it is your immune response, your inflammatory response, oxidative stress. Dr. Michaela: Mm. Kim Ressler: Vitamin D receptors, your mood, your cognitive function. So where am I where am I going? You're hearing all these systems and it's body mass index, it's gut health. We have key genes that tell us about these propensities, tell us that we need specific nutrients in specific formats with speci with with specific cofactors. And you're like, what? yeah, and it just keeps going on and on. So what we have created is a very robust. foundational product. It's not intended to be the int all be all, right? But it's to hit all of these key pathways to help optimize them. The name of our product is code, C O D E Complex, stands for custom optimization of DNA expression. Just like you said, some of these will turn on and turn off. We aren't doing an epigenetic test at this point in time. You could up you could test yourself to death, right? You could. But let's just say APOB. It's one of the ones we formulate on. It's the main protein component of LDL cholesterol. It's the integrity of the cell wall, how it repairs and communicates. We know if you have genetic variants here, the nutrients that have been proven from science to optimize it, artichoke extract, bilberry extract, grape skit. It's whole foods. So, Dr. Michaela: No, this all Kim Ressler: so again, you could sit and you could test and test and test, but what I want to do is simplify that supplement routine. give you one very powerful complex product that's made just for you. It's you don't get put into a group. you you've got these, so you're gonna get this product. I literally can make over three billion different formulas. Dr. Michaela: How d how do you test to find out who's I mean, do you gotta do a blood test or how does that work? Kim Ressler: It's a simple cheek swap. And it's one and done. It's a it's a one and done. So you know, I Dr. Michaela: No kidding. Wow. Is it scary? I mean, like, there's kind of this head in the sand, like, what I don't know won't kill me, although it probably will, and I'll be surprised by it. You know what I mean? Is it is it scary? Kim Ressler: I love that question. You know what? The first time before I truly understood what I was looking at and I got my genetics, I was like, I've got every heart marker there is. How scary is this? But you know but it actually, no, it's empowering because you that is the one thing that that snip is different here. A lot of you know, there are some great genetic testing companies. They give you great information. I don't want to know about a propensity to develop a disease I can't do anything about. Here I want Dr. Michaela: Exactly. Yeah. Kim Ressler: I want to know what I can do something about and how to optimize because I mean, if I if I can take it and put it into one jar, right? One jar made just for me. If I can do that and support there, and then now I understand where those weaknesses are. other little lifestyle tips, things that I can watch and track with biomarkers that it which is that snapshot of time, that blood work. I just have I've I've been put in the driver's seat. Dr. Michaela: So, so let me ask you this. I love what how you're phrasing it. You're saying, like, yeah, it would be scary if there wasn't like a path, right? But we we offer the path. So my question would be this. Do you recheck in over time and see, no, it's it's like you said, it's one and done. So it's like, okay, this is what you're predisposed to. And by taking this, we're getting ahead of the train and and we're we're making sure it stays on the track for throughout your lifetime, like that. Kim Ressler: That is correct. So it but how you can track it, you can track it with common and standard blood work. We have hundreds and hundreds of patients that send their before and after blood work in, whether it's cholesterol, triglycerides, A1C numbers, inflammation, Dr. Michaela: Mm-hmm. Kim Ressler: they report all types of things. we've we've, you know, there's so many. really wild stories, food sensitivities, food allergies, histamine response, gut issues. Dr. Michaela: Yeah, yeah. Kim Ressler: We get so many things reported. When you go to the core of the individual, when you support to the microgram this precision formula, magic starts happening in the body. So my story in general, I don't have the quote unquote detox markers, but methylation, as you said, that MTHFR, has a lot to do with that. with meth with methylation. So addressing my genetics, I mean, over the first four months, I think, you know, I I call it tomato face. I used to what I have have called what what I call tomato faced. Dr. Michaela: Hash. Kim Ressler: Just just it just looking puffy. And over those four months it was just like night and day different. Yes, I lost weight. I was finally releasing things I was holding on to. So there's just so many different benefits. Dr. Michaela: Uh-huh. Kim Ressler: And and again, this is this science isn't new. It's what your rich and elite and your athletes have been doing. They'll go and spend tens of thousands of dollars doing genetic mapping. They'll be on 50, 60, 70 supplements. and and that's not, I mean, we are in the day and age. We need to understand the what and why behind our bodies. We need to be empowered. to be able to ask the right I didn't know the questions to ask when I was going through my 11 years of struggling. and but nobody was wanting to address me. Let's just keep slapping a pill for an ill, slapping a pill for an ill, it's this, you know, give you this. I wasn't getting the the the systems in my body all working together. Dr. Michaela: Right. We weren't talking about root cause. We were addressing dis-ease or discomfort. so s and probably throwing stuff at the wall just to see what sticks, right? So so this would be my question. They they cheek swab, it comes to you, then they get a custom formulation. It's kind of funny, you know, the farmer's dog even does a f custom formulation for your dog. We should have custom formulations. I like that. We are all individual and unique. So so my question would be. I'm sure this question comes up a lot. How do you protect the data? Right. The DNA with all the cloning Kim Ressler: Mm-hmm. Dr. Michaela: stuff and all the things these days. How do you protect the data? Kim Ressler: Well, we're totally we are HIPAA compliant. we have partnered, we are not the lab. Dr. Michaela: Yeah. Kim Ressler: we have partnered with what what I call level five lab. They're CLIA certified CAP accredited. we are doing a true neutrogenomic test. So we aren't we aren't polygenic risk scoring you comparing you to the population. I just need your results. You become a barcode at the lab. They don't get your name, etc. Dr. Michaela: Right, right. Kim Ressler: And and the other thing I it's what I do find funny, But you can do it. Some people don't want their name even attached to that barcode. So, you know, whether it's Barney Rubble or Dr. Michaela: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Kim Ressler: you know, whoever it may be, you know, people will attach different names. But it was interesting, about eight, nine months ago, I reached out to our lab and I said, Based on the thousands of people that have swabbed with us, can I get an estimate of how many people have a homozygous, or we call it red to make it simple to understand, marker on their COMT? I waited and I waited. And I asked again. And they said, We're not collecting that data. We don't have that data. So now you understand. We are truly doing a neutrogenomic test just so that we can formulate for you. we aren't sharing, collecting, or selling data. That's not the goal. The goal is to get your information so that we can create these beautiful reports written in a sixth grade reading language at sixth grade level. And Dr. Michaela: Yeah, right. I was gonna say, understandably. Kim Ressler: And then to reveal your formula to you based on what your genetics say. Dr. Michaela: I I always think of these things. There's always this double-edged sword where I go, this is so awesome because it can help so many people. And then I always think, man, if some organizations got their hand on this, this could be dangerous. You know what I mean? So I'm glad to hear that there's that level of kind of an anonymity for for the people that are are interested in doing this. So so now I gotta pivot and ask, what does it taste like? Is it a powder? Does it go in your orange juice? How how does it work? Kim Ressler: Okay, so I'm really, I'm I'm really I'll I'll use the word anal. I'm very particular about ingredients, right? So let's start with that. Third party tested from raws to blends to every time I custom compound for an individual, we pull retains and send them to third party testing. we do develop it in both a raw powder format and a veggie cap format. So they're veggie caps. So I would say 90% of our our c our client base takes it in the veggie cap format. but the 10% takes it in powder. you know if you mix it into a protein shake, just like last week I made it a protein shake. I used kefir, orange juice, blueberries, a banana, and my powder, Dr. Michaela: Mm. So good? Kim Ressler: and it tasted great. My husband loves it in vanilla protein powder and orange juice and he just mixes it up in a shaker cup and it doesn't even make a full smoothie and loves it. so you know I mean normally I take it in capsule format because I travel quite a bit. But Dr. Michaela: Yeah, yeah. Kim Ressler: I like to experiment. What does it taste like in this? It does is it gonna taste good in it is not flavored. We don't flavor it. I'm again when you get to the bottom of the supplement fat panel, it'll say other ingredients and it says hypermellose capsules and chlorophyll and What that is is the veggie caps and the natural the green from, you know, veggie caps, the the chlorophyll and from plants. So if it's in powder, there are no there are no acceptance, there are no fillers. I use Whole Foods as the base. The body recognizes food. Let's put food in it. Dr. Michaela: Yeah. Kim Ressler: let's get let's get those micronutrients. Let's rebuild from at the source. And so yes, it is in raw powder format. It wouldn't be good mixed in water. I have had Dr. Michaela: Yeah. Kim Ressler: a cup I have had a couple people say, I don't mind it in water and I'm like, yuck. Dr. Michaela: I I remember when I first started taking omega 3. I was like, this is disgusting. I do not want to be burping salmon at nine o'clock in the morning. Like I don't think I was ever compliant with omega three because I couldn't stand like the the aftertaste, I guess, the afterburps or whatever. and so you mentioned some of these plant based formulations, and so they're kind of like like used in a liquid form and then and then turned into a powder? Or how do you how do you concentrate those like that? How does that work? The the high concentration? Kim Ressler: That's a good question. So for each everything's in powder. Everything is in it is you know everything comes in powder. We you couldn't do this in liquid. We looked at it. There's too there would be too many cross-contaminations. So Dr. Michaela: Got it. Kim Ressler: we source from high quality ingredient manufacturers. everything Dr. Michaela: Got it. They specifically do this. Okay. Yeah. Kim Ressler: Yes. I mean that have powders. I mean we are ultimately a nutraceutical company on the back end, right? We have the Dr. Michaela: Right, right. Kim Ressler: built and we just have this, we have the science and this technology to be able to custom compound for an individual. Dr. Michaela: And so when they get the test back, you said it's a beautiful report. Does it show like cardiovascular, you know, nerve conduction? What what is what is it like fo like 'cause I know a lot of people have like nerve issues, like rheumatoid arthritis and different things like that related to inflammation. Like what does it show? Kim Ressler: No, again, we're not going after disease. This is a neutragenomic test. So what we are doing is we're going after the heaviest hitting genes that impact us in aging. Heart, mood, cognitive function, mthfr, right? Methylation, detox pathways. We're going after the major SNPs that impact those areas, all of those Dr. Michaela: Got it. Kim Ressler: those body systems. We tell you what your propensity is. The code report is intended to literally tell you gene by gene what its function is, why it's important, and what specific nutrients have been scientifically validated to help optimize there. And then remember genes don't play one role. We start dividing them out into the body systems they play a role in. So now we go into the detox report and where its broad function is is one thing, its role in detox, it we tell you exactly what. So it's truly so we break the code report into 10 health reports, all those 10 key areas. So then that you can and then we give more evidence-based lifestyle tips and you know, dry brushing and making, you know, moving your body. I mean, health and wellness is comp just like you said it is complicated, it's confusing, it's there's so many things you could do. I believe in simple steps and simple things and layered modalities to get to where you need to be. be. You know, if you saw that, hey, I definitely have a detox issue, I'm gonna support nutritionally, and then, I like these tips, whether it's an infrared sauna for detox, that dry brushing, et cetera, then at the end of each of these individual reports, we say. If you're still struggling, consider requesting these, these, this, this blood work from your wellness provider. I want to help guide that individual to find out. You know, I'm not gonna be a pro a protocol, a mold protocol. That's not, I'm foundational. But have I helped hundreds of people find out that they ultimately had a mold issue? Yes. Dr. Michaela: Yeah. Yeah. Kim Ressler: I'm not gonna be your H. Pylori protocol. Does it make kind of make sense? Dr. Michaela: Yeah, it does. So here is one question that I have for you. Kim Ressler: Absolutely. Dr. Michaela: They they get these results. You've seen Kim Ressler: Mm-hmm. Dr. Michaela: thousands of reports. I have to just ask this question because I'm wildly curious. Can you tell how long of a lifespan someone's gonna have if they weren't to correct? Like is there kind of like a if this person's on this path and they don't do this that they're sh cutting themselves short? Kim Ressler: No, we d we aren't doing that. We aren't doing that epigenetic or that test. But what we do see, and we see it all the time. People will do their before and afters with somebody like function health. You know who function health is, right? And we had a lady that she's now been on the product about a year, 13, 14 months. And she said, interestingly enough. there's a component in there that says where your bio where your biological age is versus your chronicle. Dr. Michaela: Yeah. Yeah. Kim Ressler: And in her second second be you know, between the first time and the second time she tested, first time she tested, my biomarkers are all looking better. Okay, from her test. Next time she tested, she goes, interestingly enough, my biological age has decreased in the last six months an additional two and a half years i've gotten two and a half years younger so again Dr. Michaela: wow. wow. Kim Ressler: you can people you could test everything and you can keep testing and do you know how much money is are you going to spend what we need to do is make this simple track our biomarkers do you do it once a year do you do it twice a year do you do it every quarter what works for you right But to be retesting all of the time. I mean, who's I mean, there might be just a handful of people that are doing that all the time, if that makes sense. Dr. Michaela: Yeah. Wow. Well that's fantastic. So so if people are interested in learning more about this, what's the process Kim Ressler: Mm-hmm. Dr. Michaela: and where do they go? Kim Ressler: So if you want to learn more about nutrigenomics and what the future of personalization looks like, you would go to www.snip snip nutrition.com. Or one another thing, I've just launched my own podcast, Dr. Michaela. It's and it's called This Might Change Your Life. That can be found that can be found at this might change your life.com. But I also think our YouTube, our YouTube has we we partner with a lot of providers of everything from MDs, DOs, LMFTs, acupuncturists, chiropractors, nutritionists, registered dietitians, et cetera. Go listen to some of the stories of providers actually using our using this approach in in their with their patient population. Dr. Michaela: So let me ask you one last question before before you go. If somebody's got cancer and they're listening to this, maybe they've had cancer for a long time, maybe they're in remission, maybe they're they're just getting a cancer diagnosis, will this help? Kim Ressler: We support all the systems of the body. We've partnered with several oncology oncology doctors that use our our product in in in their practice. So I'm just here to remove 30 to 40 bottles for that individual. And then that oncology doctor, she la I'm not going to be the high dose mega dose beta glucans. She'll layer over those. So again, we support all of the major systems in the body to function at a higher level. So again, we're not going after disease. We're going after the systems of the body to support them. Dr. Michaela: And it's my experience that when you when you detox your your lymphatic system and your liver and your kidneys and get the sludgeon out and you reduce the amount of candida and all of these different things in your body, all the systems c start coming back online better. Everything can be received and processed better. Kim Ressler: Absolutely. And if I could just it's just like in my early 40s, I was perimenopausal. The hot flashes and the night sweats were nuts. They wanted to bioidentical hormones. They didn't work for me. I truly didn't need them. My foundation wasn't set. It wasn't good. So I'm in my mid-50s now. I'm through menopause. Do you know that, in other words, and I work with several hormone docs too, when the foundation is better. Everything else works better. So, my story going through menopause, I didn't have the hot flashes and the night sweats. Am I saying that's going to be the case for everybody? That's not what I'm saying. But, and that that is what a lot of these hormone ducks will say. If you get the systems and the foundation stronger and better and everything working more optimally, you could be in that fifteen to twenty percent that don't have those symptoms. Dr. Michaela: Love that. Well, thank you so much, Kim, for coming on. I know that you know, you're sharing highly complex information with a general population. And that can be challenging because we don't learn this stuff in our upbringings in school, although I have some thoughts about that. So I appreciate so much that you were able to explain these complex concepts, you know, big bang theory concepts here and easy to digest. bits. So that's that's awesome. Folks, you know we always include the links in the show notes. You can go to snip snipnutrition.com. Did I get that right? Yes, I did. Okay, Kim Ressler: Yes, she did. Dr. Michaela: good. check the links if you're driving. Don't look at your phone. Thank you so much, Kim, for coming on today. And folks, check this out because this really is the next wave of wellness.
