- 0:20You guys. You guys would like you can turn to Proverbs 16.
- 0:25That's my that's my encouragement to you to you young adults to Reese to Nick and to Ashley known as Sarah to me.
- 0:40Just being honest.
- 0:43One, I'm so happy that I'm done.
- 0:47You know, for graduates, praise God.
- 0:53It's going through the pictures and I think.
- 0:56Bri and Bob have a couple more years of this, but it's nonetheless.
- 1:00This is your oldest daughter.
- 1:03Is our last two.
- 1:06Oh, man.
- 1:08I didn't expect this part.
- 1:12Seeing the smiles on their faces in the innocence.
- 1:16Which we would assume is innocence as much as I preach against no no innocence.
- 1:24I don't think they realize this day was going to come.
- 1:29And that we knew it's coming.
- 1:31It's still hard, isn't it?
- 1:33Boy.
- 1:35Proverbs 16.
- 1:38Let's pray.
- 1:41Father, I want to thank you that you're righteous, holy and good.
- 1:45Thank you again for your wisdom in your word.
- 1:50Your word is living and active.
- 1:52It does exactly as you intended it to be and to do.
- 1:56We thank you, Lord Jesus, that you are the word.
- 2:01You are you are the one who gives us life, the source of all things and the source of life itself.
- 2:08Lord, I pray that these young women and this young man.
- 2:14We really grasp the importance to build a build upon what you have already left.
- 2:19You being the chief cornerstone.
- 2:22And your truth that has been brought to us by your prophets and the apostles that that foundation is unmovable.
- 2:31And that you are you are true in all that you do.
- 2:37So, Lord, I pray as we walk through these few verses that we see your holiness, your righteousness and your goodness toward your people.
- 2:46And really.
- 2:48The power of our mighty and holy God, Lord, we praise you and thank you in Jesus name.
- 2:53Amen.
- 2:55Psalm six, Proverbs 16, verse one through nine says this, the plans of the heart belong to man.
- 3:01But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.
- 3:05All the ways of a man are pure in his own in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.
- 3:11Commit your work to the Lord and your plans will be established.
- 3:15The Lord has made everything for his for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
- 3:23Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord.
- 3:29Be assured he will not go unpunished by steadfast love and faithfulness.
- 3:34Iniquity is atoned for and by the fear of the Lord, one turns from evil.
- 3:39When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
- 3:46Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.
- 3:54The heart of a man plans his ways, but the Lord establishes his step.
- 4:02These are the nine verses I really thought about.
- 4:06If I was to give a legacy, one, what would I want to do?
- 4:09I'd want to give some wisdom.
- 4:11So you guys need to pay attention.
- 4:13You need wisdom.
- 4:15Solomon wrote these Proverbs, these sayings of wisdom for his son, a young man around your age.
- 4:27This is for you.
- 4:29And what happens in many times is that when you're walking in life as a young man, you think one, you're invincible or young woman.
- 4:37You think you're invincible and nothing can harm you or touch you.
- 4:40Solomon says differently and scripture says differently.
- 4:45And so this is I think one of the things I want to give you that you can build upon the chief cornerstone Christ and the foundation which he gave,
- 4:55his word so that you live a life in such a way that honors and glorifies him.
- 5:01Because if you don't, believe me, your life will be a struggle.
- 5:08You will struggle all the days of your life if you don't carry these some of these basic truths.
- 5:13There's a lot more truths.
- 5:15I just want to give you some basic ones here.
- 5:17First is this man purposes.
- 5:22God disposes.
- 5:24The word disposes here means he brings you to the right state of mind.
- 5:30Now, I say this in jest because I'm trying to be a little funny, but I mean this in all reality.
- 5:36When you turn 25, it'll all make sense.
- 5:41Until then, your brain damaged.
- 5:44Just saying.
- 5:46If you have any questions about that, you can blame that on your age and your physiology.
- 5:55You're still developing and your brain doesn't stop developing until you're 25.
- 5:59So we have a bunch of crazy people.
- 6:02No, I'm only kidding.
- 6:03I'm only teasing you.
- 6:05But you purpose to do a lot of things in life.
- 6:11But God brings you to the right state of mind.
- 6:16Lesson one is everything in your life starts here.
- 6:24Here.
- 6:26You change the way you think.
- 6:28You change your heart.
- 6:30You change your heart.
- 6:31You do righteously.
- 6:33Now, I'll clarify this in a minute.
- 6:36So your legacy starts in the smallest of muscles, but sets the course of your life.
- 6:44People think it's your heart.
- 6:46It's your brain.
- 6:49Your brain is a muscle.
- 6:51It's an amazing computer.
- 6:53But man, you got to exercise it.
- 6:56So the good person out of the good treasures of his heart produces good.
- 7:02And the evil person out of the evil treasures produces evil.
- 7:07Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
- 7:12You probably heard this term, a man thinketh so he is.
- 7:19Proverbs 16, verse one and two, the plans, the preparations, the arrangements of the heart, the heart, the inner part of man, the mind,
- 7:29the mind you're thinking belong to you, belong to man.
- 7:34But the answer, the ability to answer, the response of the tongue, of the language that you speak in your mind is from the Lord.
- 7:49All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes.
- 7:54All the direc is the word here.
- 7:57All the ways, direc is way, road, journey, path, course of life.
- 8:04You think that you have set your journey.
- 8:06You think that you have set the course of your life.
- 8:09You think that you know what you're going to do.
- 8:12But then God flips the script.
- 8:15So, and I think many, as the scripture says, we think that the ways, our journey, our path, our course of life are pure in our own eyes.
- 8:27We think that they are clean and righteous and good.
- 8:30And this word eyes is the word that means mental or spiritual qualities or the fountain of your life.
- 8:39That these mental and spiritual qualities are good.
- 8:47The scripture says that the heart of man is wicked above all else who can know it.
- 8:54You must be changed.
- 8:56There has to be a change in your life, a commitment to the only living and true God.
- 9:04But the Lord weighs, the Lord measures, token is the word here.
- 9:11Token means to measure, to test, or to prove the spirit.
- 9:18God measures, tests, or proves your mental acts, your dispositions of various kinds.
- 9:27He is the one who weighs the reality of your heart.
- 9:33The ruwak is the word here.
- 9:37Matthew Henry states it this way, mene mene tekel, the handwriting on the wall, upon that which passed our scale of approbation.
- 9:52In other words, the things that we think we've done that are good, worthy of praise and approval,
- 10:00they've been placed on the scale that God has weighed, weighed by God in the balance and found wanting.
- 10:09The good that you have to offer is not enough without Christ.
- 10:17Christ is what makes your good weighty, beyond measure.
- 10:25You must establish him as King and Lord of your life.
- 10:30This is what this means.
- 10:32Weighed by God in the balance and the found wanting, and by his judgment and judgment alone, we must stand or fall.
- 10:39He is not, he not only sees man's ways, but tries them.
- 10:45He tests them for genuineness.
- 10:49And they're spirits, and we are, we are as our spirits are.
- 10:56In other words, I am what I am, right?
- 11:01Dead without Christ.
- 11:05James 3, 6 says this way, and the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness.
- 11:12The tongue is set among our members, sustaining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
- 11:22In other words, our tongue, our language, our vocabulary concerning the reality of our life will determine where you go in life.
- 11:34It's not, not in just what you say, it's how you say it.
- 11:39And what you say and how you say it tells me where your heart is.
- 11:45That's what this means.
- 11:48Old Testament Proverbs 423 says this, keep your heart with all vigilance for from it flow the springs of life.
- 11:59Your heart guides your mouth, change the way you think changes the heart, change the heart changes your language.
- 12:08Speak Jesus's language.
- 12:11That's what you need to see.
- 12:13Next principle, give it all to him.
- 12:17So if you purpose, God disposes.
- 12:20If God disposes, the only way to make sure that you're in line is to give it all to him.
- 12:26All that the Lord God has made is for his purpose and plan.
- 12:31Nothing is made to just exist, but made for his wonderful name and glory.
- 12:40You weren't made to just be.
- 12:43You were made and created for the sole purpose of the glory of God and to be used by him for the purpose of his kingdom.
- 12:50There is a plan and it's not yours.
- 12:53It's his plan.
- 12:55That doesn't mean that you can't make plans in life as young people, as young men and women.
- 13:01You can.
- 13:02But whatever you purpose to do, do it all for the glory of God.
- 13:05You'll see this very shortly.
- 13:07For the scripture says to the Pharaoh, for this very purpose I have raised you up that I might show my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.
- 13:20Even the wicked are created, brought into life for the sole purpose of the glory of God.
- 13:29Romans 9, 17.
- 13:32So Proverbs 16, 3 through 4 says this, commit, roll up to.
- 13:38It means to take the scroll and roll it to the one who is doing the work.
- 13:50Commit, roll up to.
- 13:52Roll your scroll of life and give it to Christ.
- 13:57Commit your work, your acts, your pursuits, your achievements to the Lord.
- 14:04And your plans, your devices, your purpose will be established, will be made firm, stable and fixed.
- 14:12If you do this and you commit everything to him, you will absolutely succeed in life.
- 14:19The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
- 14:26New Testament.
- 14:27And whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- 14:35Colossians 3, 17.
- 14:36Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God and thank him for the opportunity.
- 14:45The Old Testament.
- 14:47The end of the matter.
- 14:49All has been heard.
- 14:51Fear God.
- 14:52Keep his commandments.
- 14:54For this is the whole duty of man.
- 14:58Ecclesiastes 12, 13.
- 15:01Your responsibility is to glorify God.
- 15:06Your responsibility is to keep his commandments, to show respect and honor and reverence for the God of all creation, who you will give an account to one day.
- 15:20Just like in every presentation of, I think, every graduation presentation, the speaker always gives a warning, I think.
- 15:32Like, hey, there's something you guys need to pay attention to.
- 15:35The world is hard.
- 15:38That's what you typically hear.
- 15:40And you've been equipped.
- 15:42You have trained.
- 15:43You have studied to win.
- 15:47That's not a, I'm not giving you a speech, but let me give you this warning.
- 15:53The warning here is to, a warning to run from pride.
- 15:58Life is not about you.
- 16:04It's about Christ and always will be.
- 16:08If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.
- 16:23Second Chronicles 7, 14.
- 16:24Now, I understand that this is a verse that's used many times out of context.
- 16:33And he's talking to the people of Israel concerning their entering into the promised land, that if they repent, God will do what he's promised.
- 16:43But this verse does fit very well.
- 16:47Proverbs 16, 5 through 6.
- 16:50And here is why.
- 16:51Everyone who is arrogant, gava is the word here, proud in heart.
- 16:59Everyone who is proud in the inner man, in the mind or in the heart is an abomination.
- 17:07The word abomination here is a disgusting thing.
- 17:11An abomination, a disgusting thing to the Lord.
- 17:14Pride is what Satan has done.
- 17:21And pride is what we do.
- 17:24Lust of the heart, lust of the eyes, pride of life is an abomination to the Lord.
- 17:29Be assured.
- 17:31This word be assured means to put the hand to.
- 17:34Be assured that God will put the hand to everyone who is not committed and humbled before him.
- 17:47He will not, the person will not go unpunished.
- 17:52This word unpunished means he will not be free.
- 17:55He will not be pure.
- 17:56He will not be clean.
- 17:57He will not be innocent and he will not be guiltless.
- 18:00That's what this word means.
- 18:04By steadfast love, by goodness and kindness and faithfulness and by faithfulness, truth, firmness, sureness, reliability, iniquity, our perversity, our depravity, our guilt is atoned for.
- 18:21Purged, covered, reconciled.
- 18:24God is the one who is steadfast in love and faithful.
- 18:27God is the one who has atoned for our iniquity, for himself.
- 18:33And by the Lord, and by the fear of the Lord, the word fear of the Lord here means reverence and respect.
- 18:39One turns away, repents, to dispose, to depart.
- 18:46One turns and runs the opposite way from evil.
- 18:52Turn from your sin and cling to him.
- 18:57But he gives more grace, therefore it says, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
- 19:05James 4.6.
- 19:06If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,
- 19:13then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.
- 19:18See, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
- 19:22Love God, love his word, love his ways, and love his things.
- 19:28There's nothing of greatest value that you've been given in Christ.
- 19:33Christ is your greatest value and his word.
- 19:37Christ and his word is the greatest value that God the Father has given to you.
- 19:44Not your stuff.
- 19:46It's not your cell phone.
- 19:49Girls, it's not whether you have a good hair day.
- 19:52Gentlemen, it's not, oh my gosh, I've got to get rid of the pimple.
- 19:56It's not your looks, it's him.
- 19:59For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
- 20:02Also Matthew 6.21, Proverbs 16, 7 through 8 says,
- 20:07When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies at peace with him.
- 20:16When, roshah is the word here, pleasing and acceptable a man is, and his ways will be pleasing and acceptable.
- 20:29His journey, his road, his path, his course of life will be pleasing.
- 20:33If you are right with God and he's made you acceptable to himself, then your ways will be considered acceptable.
- 20:43That's what this verse 7 means.
- 20:46It's interesting you use the word when.
- 20:49The word when is pleasing.
- 20:52I was like, that's interesting.
- 20:54Pleasing is the man and his ways are pleasing.
- 20:59And if the man is pleasing and his ways are pleasing, then even his enemies, shalem is how you say it, means to make anyone a friend.
- 21:09God even makes his enemies, your enemies, a friend.
- 21:16I've had a lot of enemies.
- 21:19Many are friends today.
- 21:23Because I've committed my ways to be pleasing to him and I've committed myself, my mind, and it's a hard struggle.
- 21:31But if you do that, God will make even your enemies, your friend.
- 21:38Better is a little with righteousness.
- 21:42A little what?
- 21:43Here's the answer.
- 21:45Then great or abundance revenue, income.
- 21:49So let me say it this way.
- 21:51I'd rather live in a shack and be totally happy and committed to Christ than to be a millionaire or billionaire and be completely miserable and lost.
- 22:03That's what this means.
- 22:05Better is a little with righteousness than great income, great wealth with injustice.
- 22:14It's not this issue of injustice in the sense that you would think is justice.
- 22:20It means it's better, better is a little than great income with no right or no rectitude, with no attributes of God, with no character of Christ.
- 22:36If you don't establish the character of Christ in your lives as young men and women, you will be absolutely miserable, especially when you will not have anything.
- 22:47Because there will be a day that you will struggle and not have much.
- 22:52Everybody in this room has known about those days.
- 22:56Then we look back and you go, well, my parents have all this.
- 22:59That's because they put the work in when they were when they were struggling.
- 23:02They put the work in.
- 23:04They've committed their ways.
- 23:06New Testament, if you keep my commandments, you will you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my father's commandments and abide in his love.
- 23:14These things I have spoken to you that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be full.
- 23:23The greatest value have is Christ and his word, his commandments.
- 23:29And this is what this is what the scripture says here that David says, teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.
- 23:38Unite my heart to fear your name.
- 23:45And Moses also says the same thing in Exodus 33 13.
- 23:51Now, therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight.
- 24:03Show me now your ways that I may know you in order to that this nation is your people.
- 24:13This is the end.
- 24:16Last thing.
- 24:18God is in control.
- 24:22Make no bones about that.
- 24:25You may look around the world and you think the world is out of control.
- 24:30But you have to use your sovereign hand to bring about the plan.
- 24:35Oh, I just made that up, Mary Ellen.
- 24:41Ben's like,
- 24:45I got right that down.
- 24:46I had recorded it because I totally forgot how to say.
- 24:50That's funny.
- 24:52All right, here we go.
- 24:56I am the one who was seated on the throne said, behold, I am making all things new.
- 25:04Revelation 21 5a.
- 25:07See, in Proverbs 16 9, it says this, the heart of man, the lave, the inner man, the mind, the heart, the soul, the heart of man plans.
- 25:21You will make all kinds of plans.
- 25:27You will calculate whether this is a good idea or not.
- 25:30And you will make a judgment on whether you should or shouldn't.
- 25:33See, that's where our mind is as young people.
- 25:36What am I going to do with the rest of my life?
- 25:41You see, the heart of man plans his way.
- 25:44The heart of man plans his way.
- 25:47The heart of man plans his way.
- 25:51The heart of man plans his direct, his course of life.
- 25:57You have plans.
- 25:59Make plans.
- 26:01Planning is fun.
- 26:03But when God changes your plan, don't get upset because he knows far better than you do.
- 26:11And this is what it says here.
- 26:13Why?
- 26:14Because God establishes, he coons, he coons you.
- 26:20He establishes, makes firm, stable your steps.
- 26:28Sa'ad is the word here.
- 26:31Your course of life.
- 26:32You think you have set a plan.
- 26:34But God has established your course of life to accomplish his purpose, his plan to bring about his kingdom for his glory to make his name great.
- 26:47That is, if you can get this as young people, you will learn to live in such a way that glorifies him and you will enjoy life immensely wherever you go.
- 27:01So here you go.
- 27:04They cast their crowns before the throne saying, worthy are you, O Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things and by your will they exist and were created.
- 27:20Revelation 4, 10 through 11.
- 27:22The whole reason is because God has established that for you, that you would glorify him.
- 27:31That's the point.
- 27:33Old Testament.
- 27:35I am the Lord and there is no other.
- 27:38Besides me, there is no God.
- 27:41I equip you, though you do not know me, that my people may know from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is none besides me.
- 27:54I am the Lord and there is no other.
- 27:58I form light and create darkness.
- 28:00I make well-being and create calamity.
- 28:04What?
- 28:07So when things are good in people's lives, that's God.
- 28:10And when God wrecks your stuff and calamity happens, that's God too.
- 28:16I don't know about that, but that's what?
- 28:19God creates calamity.
- 28:21God brings about your well-being and he creates crisis.
- 28:26Everything that happens in the world is the hand of God, providentially and sovereignly working for the purpose of his plan.
- 28:35I am the Lord who does all these things, Isaiah 45, 5 through 7.
- 28:41Think about that.
- 28:43I don't know about you, but that's power.
- 28:46And then he says this in Psalm 115, verse 3.
- 28:49Our God is in the heavens and he does all that he pleases.
- 28:56God does all that he pleases.
- 29:00And you are a pleasure to him.
- 29:06So that's my words of wisdom to you adults.
- 29:11And now we're getting to the very end of this service.
- 29:15And I pray that you listen to this.
- 29:18Maybe go back and listen to it.
- 29:21If you don't, I will find you.
- 29:23I know where you live.
- 29:30Next is the diploma presentation.
