- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Luna: Oh, thanks Lucas. It's good to be here again. Lucas: Yeah, and I'm excited for today's episode. We're keeping it super simple. Luna: Oh, that's so good. I love simple. Lucas: Totally. So far we've covered greetings, goodbyes, yes and no, and even how to introduce ourselves. Luna: Right, like 'Jina langu ni Luna' from last time. Lucas: Exactly. Today, we're adding something foundational: numbers one through five in Swahili. Luna: Oh, numbers. That sounds useful. Lucas: For sure. Let's start with number one. In Swahili, it's 'moja'. Luna: Moja. Lucas: Yeah, 'moja'. Say it slowly: mo-ja. Luna: Mo-ja. Lucas: There you go. Now normally: moja. Luna: Moja. Lucas: Perfect. Number two is 'mbili'. Luna: Mbili. Lucas: Yeah, 'mbili'. Slowly: mbi-li. Luna: Mbi-li. Lucas: Right. Normally: mbili. Luna: Mbili. Lucas: Good. Number three: 'tatu'. Luna: Tatu. Lucas: Exactly. Slowly: ta-tu. Luna: Ta-tu. Lucas: Now normally: tatu. Luna: Tatu. Lucas: Number four: 'nne'. Luna: Nne. Lucas: Yeah, 'nne'. Slowly: n-ne. Luna: N-ne. Lucas: Normally: nne. Luna: Nne. Lucas: And number five: 'tano'. Luna: Tano. Lucas: Right. Slowly: ta-no. Luna: Ta-no. Lucas: Normally: tano. Luna: Tano. Lucas: Awesome. Let's put them all together slowly. Moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. Luna: Moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. Lucas: Yeah yeah yeah. Now a bit faster: moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. Luna: Moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. Lucas: Nailed it. Let's use these in a tiny scene. Imagine we're at a bakery, like in episode three. Luna: Oh, I remember that. Habari za asubuhi and all that. Lucas: Exactly. So you're pointing at pastries. You say: 'Nataka moja, tafadhali'. Luna: Wait, 'nataka' means 'I want', right? From earlier episodes? Lucas: Good memory. Yes, 'nataka' is 'I want'. So: 'Nataka moja, tafadhali' — I want one, please. Luna: Nataka moja, tafadhali. Lucas: Perfect. Now what if you want two? 'Nataka mbili, tafadhali'. Luna: Nataka mbili, tafadhali. Lucas: There it is. Let's count the pastries: moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. Luna: Moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. Lucas: Great. Another scene: counting people. Like if we're meeting friends and you say how many are here. Luna: Okay, so... 'Kuna moja' for 'there is one'? Lucas: Close! 'Kuna' means 'there is' or 'there are'. So 'kuna moja' — there is one. 'Kuna mbili' — there are two. Luna: Kuna moja. Kuna mbili. Lucas: Yeah. Let's count up: kuna moja, kuna mbili, kuna tatu, kuna nne, kuna tano. Luna: Kuna moja, kuna mbili, kuna tatu, kuna nne, kuna tano. Lucas: Absolutely. Now, a quick recap. What's number one? Luna: Moja. Lucas: Number two? Luna: Mbili. Lucas: Three? Luna: Tatu. Lucas: Four? Luna: Nne. Lucas: And five? Luna: Tano. Lucas: Perfect. Let's count down for fun: tano, nne, tatu, mbili, moja. Luna: Tano, nne, tatu, mbili, moja. Lucas: You did it. So today we learned: moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. Luna: Moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano. That's cute. Lucas: Yeah, and super useful. Thanks for practicing with me, Luna. Luna: Of course. This was fun. Lucas: And thank you to everyone listening to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Keep repeating these numbers, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Yeah, practice these till we chat again. Kwaheri! Lucas: Kwaheri!
