- Nathan Hawthorne: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to KYP. We know that you missed us. We are so sorry we were not here last week, but we are back in action and we're gonna be breaking down week two and not just a general recap, but we're gonna be breaking down the league wide implications from week two and a few of the things that maybe the mainstream media isn't quite talking about right now. We tend to have these things lock and key before they even get announced or even talked about on the mainstream. We're gonna give it to you first. We're gonna give it to you, Raw. Jared, what do you have to say? Jarod McInroy: Yeah, we're gonna talk about all the games too. We're gonna highlight a few of the big ones. but we're gonna do a rapid fire reactions at the end. So if we miss your team, don't worry. We'll get at the end. there's a lot of really good football being played these first two weeks. So we got a lot to say. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. I'll go I'll go ahead and kick this thing off with our first topic. And w a game that really has surprised me, a team that has surprised me, and this is for you, Reed, if you're listening. The Las Vegas Raiders might actually be good. They might actually be a good team. And I I know that they haven't necessarily played the greatest competition the first two weeks, right? You beat the Ravens and then you beat kind of a swirling Chargers team. But I think what's interesting here is These young coaches that are coming into the NFL, they have no desire to tank. Right? Yes, you had the first overall pick last year. You drafted Eric Mendoza, and you want to start things off on a positive note. You don't want to lose the locker room. These guys want to win games right now. I think about Ben Johnson last year with Caleb Williams and that Bears offense. Instantly last year, he's like, We're not tanking. We're not waiting for one more year to rebuild this O line. We are immediately going out to play ball. I think about Mike LaFleur in his week one showing. you kind get outclassed that second week by the Seahawks. But again, these guys aren't interested in showing up tanking for a year and then maybe kind of figure things out. Once you tank, you lose the locker room. And I think what Jeff Halfley, the one of the older coaches, has to do, or Aaron Glenn last year, what he's being asked to do, and maybe John Harbaugh right now, gonna be asked to tank and just give away the season. I think it's a it's a big shift in how a lot of these new coaches are taking over. It's not about, okay, next year we got this. They want to start creating a winning culture and winning games right now. We'll build in free agency. We'll figure out what to do with the quarterback position, but let's just win. I love what I'm seeing from the Raiders so far. Clint Kubiak, you can see how much not only he's missing Seattle, their offense looks different, but the culture that he's building, it's impressive. I love it. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. And I don't know if you remember this, but when we did our division breakdowns, I said they are who you think the Tennessee Titans are, which is a scrappy team that can sneak you in a lot of games this year, be competitive in a lot of games. They're more complete than you think. We all forgot that Kirk Cousins is a class act at quarterback and will not play you out of games. Like he's very capable of winning football games, similar to what we're seeing Geno Smith do. with the Jets, like he's y th these are these are veteran quarterbacks have been around the league. Okay, hang on. Follow me for a second now. Nathan Hawthorne: I see where you're going. I see where you Jarod McInroy: But no, this Raiders team has has proven that so far. again, only through two weeks. I don't think that this is going to be sustainable for the long term. I don't think they're gonna keep getting games against the Dolphins, or in this case, just a Chargers team that has looked atrocious. but nonetheless, impressive. and and Brock Bowers didn't hasn't even played. Like the these Nathan Hawthorne: Hasn't played yet. Jarod McInroy: are these the That's another big piece of this offense that that they're gonna get back. And we haven't even seen what Mendoza can do. So this the future looks bright. in terms of the defense also, it hasn't looked like they've been bad or what's what's Nathan Hawthorne: It ain't that bad. Jarod McInroy: the word I'm looking for? we thought they were gonna be very incompetent. Like we thought Nathan Hawthorne: Yes. Jarod McInroy: it was gonna be like a a disjointed at at different levels of the field, you know. You you still have Max Crosby coming back, like what What is he does he even care to play for this team anymore? He he was out the door. He wanted to leave, all these different things, storylines throughout the whole offseason with that. And he's doing it. They're doing Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Jarod McInroy: it. And and he looks like he's got a lot of life left in him and he's he's ready to go for this team in the Stephen's. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, I think one of those question marks was Rob Leonard, right? The defensive coordinator. We said, you know, one, two, three, team meeting, what are we doing? And it looks like this team knows what they're doing or at least rowing the boat in the right direction. Two of their next two of their next three. So they've got the Saints. I think that's a winnable game. Saints also looking better than we expected. Saints a winnable game. Kansas City Chiefs. I'm gonna go ahead and give the nod to the Chiefs there. And then you're running up against the the New England Patriots, which to me, I think that game is very winnable right now. Based off of what we've seen the first two weeks from the from the New England Patriots. So again, it is really cool to see these teams just start fighting immediately. We're not going to the insta tank. We're gonna start trying to win some football games and prove that our roster both sides of the ball is really competitive. I think it's awesome. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, it's great. It will hurt you in the long run because you're not gonna have a great pick next year. But sometimes it's the little victories, man, that really can get a team steam rolling and the talent that we're getting, even in the just the top ten in general of these drafts, if you have any of those picks, you're in a good place, especially with having I mean, you think you have quarterback figured out. You have a big piece in in your running back and tight end. So there's a lot of room to work with. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, absolutely. And speaking of getting the quarterback right, I think the Texans have gotten the quarterback right. I I do think they have. Jarod McInroy: Okay, thank God. Nathan Hawthorne: I do think they have with CJ Stroud. I don't think they have gotten the offensive coordinator right. Bobby Slick, I think it was a one hit wonder with CJ Stroud. Things were working. I am so big on once you have a year of tape and people figure things out about what you want to do between you and your coordinator, things get tough. Slowick didn't have the answers. And I think that that's clear. Now you've got Nick Cayley. And my issue with Nick Cayley is not that I think he's a horrible offensive mind, but he comes from the Josh McDaniels tree. He spent seven years in New England studying under Josh McDaniels before going to McVay. So the base and the foundation of his knowledge is that Josh McDaniels system. It is a little bit old and arc archaic right now. It puts a lot on the quarterback to solve everything at the line of scrimmage rather than going to the line of scrimmage with answers. Like there's a big difference between diagnosing and solving everything versus getting to the line of scrimmage and being able to recognize and make a minor shift in what you're trying to do. So I I think CJ Stroud is being asked to do too much, and you can say that that's not a good opinion. He's an NFL quarterback. He needs to be able to duh he's just being asked to do too much at the line of scrimmage, and to me it doesn't look like he's playing very free. It looks like he is I it just looks hesitant. And then also Josh McDaniels does not know how to develop a run game. I'm not sure if he ever did. It's dink and dunk to the running backs, and then take your shots where you can. And so Nick Cayley, again, having adopted that, the offense just looks plain. It looks vanilla, it looks boring. I know that some of their their their receiving pieces are injured right now, but they've all but they've been injured. Everybody's got an injured receiving core at some point. Very few ask Matt Safford. He could literally only throw to one guy last night. But I just they still can't run the ball. even with the improved offensive line. And so I think the issue is coming down to the scheme, not CJ Stroud. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, the other thing and here's my thing. I I okay, so I said a couple weeks ago CJ Stroud just go be a top 15 quarterback. He did that. and I said, you know, the defense will have your back. They have and they haven't. But the whole point of this is you still have to go be a a a talented offense. You still need to go try and win games by outscoring teams. Granted, the first the week one game against the Bills, that's a really bad defense. So it's kind of skewed. however, then you get the Bengals who, hey, you you marked them as a top five defense. They've looked pretty good so far. Nathan Hawthorne: They look very nice. Jarod McInroy: But you're right, they look timid. They look like they're trying to not lose the game. CJ Stroud looks like he's almost like overanalyzing every play in the pocket. And he's like, Okay, how do I not make this into a turnover? How do I like he he's he's not playing free at all? Again, like you said, he doesn't have the weapons. but you have to make do. I mean, look at how many points the Seahawks are putting up with Drew Locke right now. Like the there's okay, maybe a different situation, but still at the same time, it's You have to make do with what you have. And you you can't put that much stress on the defense. That was the whole point of this. Yes, they will keep Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: you in games. I mean, it was only what a 14 point loss this week. So it's not like you were out of the game. It wasn't they didn't get blown out, but they never really felt like they were in it. Kind of similar to that Bills game where there was it was back and forth, back and forth, but the Bills still felt like they were in control of the game, and it's because of how Josh Allen looked. on the field, how their run game looked, how they were able to control the clock. that's something that the the Texans need to adopt. They need to be in control of every game that they are in if they want to start winning football games. Owen two is a murky feeling right now for them. Their schedule does get a little easier. I think this this coming week. I mean we don't want to get into a look ahead just yet but having the the Colts on their schedule will be a another really big game where you're facing a lot of talent, but you have to go prove that you are in that Super Bowl bubble. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, we'll certainly talk about that matchup. And I think for these two teams in particular in the AFC South, both the Colts and the the Texans, you might have to sound some alarms. And for for the Colts, it it's Jarod McInroy: Yikes. Nathan Hawthorne: everywhere. You are too Jonathan Taylor dependent. And for the Texans, it's this offense. I don't care how good your defense is, if they are on the field for 70 snaps a game or more, they're gonna have a really tough time. They're gonna have a tough time. It's just too many plays for guys to be out there and consistently make stops. And again, you play Josh Allen and the Bills, and then you play Joe Burrow and the Bengals in their receiving core. Like that is a that is a tough start. But again, like you said, they were never out of the game. The potential was always there for them to be able to win the game and help out their defense. It just didn't happen. So a little disappointing from the Texans. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Hey. Nathan Hawthorne: I'm Nick Cayley. I'm on to you. I thought you Jarod McInroy: Mm. Nathan Hawthorne: were a McVay guy. I did a little more research. Turns out You're a Josh McDaniels guy. Just ask the Patriots how that's going right now. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. But they're tied for second in the division at O and two. Nathan Hawthorne: That's that's miserable right now for that division. Jarod McInroy: I know. Jags one and one and then everyone else is yeah. Good luck. Anyways, let's get on to the Vikings really quick because we have to talk about this defense. And I'm a guy, again, I know I know Bla Brian Flores very well. And I want to preface this with we ha as the Dolphins organization, they had to make a decision a while ago. this was back in in 2020 when it was are we going to Listen to Brian Flores, let him have the floor. Are we gonna continue to let Chris Greer run the show? We chose the wrong direction. We let Chris Greer have have the keys to the castle. He drafted Tua. unfortunately, Brian Flores was lobbying for Herbert or J Jordan Love, which we both know now that they are two cheeks of the same ass. My favorite tweet I've ever seen. so not Nathan Hawthorne: That's a great two cheeks of the same ass boy. Jarod McInroy: that it really mattered, but Seeing how Brian Flores just conducts himself in on the sideline, in the locker room, how his guys play for him. It was it was even very obvious when he was in Miami. He knows how to call a defense, man. So sometimes again, like I said, he gets very he goes all out, he doesn't really adopt that Ben Don't Break mindset. he'll send nine guys after the quarterback and have two guys on the back end like But it's working. I mean, you you your quarterback goes down early and in the Green Bay game, you have Carson Wentz out there, like what what do you have to lose? he kept them in it. The offense did what they needed to do. But it was a master class. They he d Mike LaFleur or Matt LaFleur rather didn't know what was coming at him. Jordan Love looked lost. The offensive line was terrible, but then he goes and does it again against Ben Johnson. Now it was played in a monsoon, it's different. But that is a piece of coaching is what what what do we have to deal with today? What do we have in front of us today? And they played the game masterfully. They won a nine to three slob fest. Those are the wins you have to have. And sometimes those are just the cards you're dealt and it's gonna come down to who does it. That that that shiny Ben Johnson offense with you know, guys flying around everywhere. That doesn't really work in the slop. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Jarod McInroy: yeah, what do you have to say? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, I just I thought Ben Johnson was gonna be able to dial up a little bit more in that run game. You know, Caleb Williams had thrown twenty six times. I think that you know, they weren't necessarily all downfield targets, but I think he threw more than I thought they would, especially given those conditions. And I think between Monungay and Swift they had, I wanna say twenty six carries. So I thought that the offense would have skewed a little bit more towards running the football. but again the thing with Brian Foy is his defense that I love is he has run blitzes. He has pass blitzes. He doesn't, you don't know when he is going to blitz. And what that requires the quarterback to do is every single play, it's identify where the pressure is coming from. And then when the pressure comes, you have to go to the right spot. And a lot of times the defense, they know where their vulnerable spot is. And he has these guys ready to go and attack that spot once the ball is released or once the play kicks back to that area if it's a run. So they're prepared for that next step. And then the beautiful thing. is of it again like I said you have to identify the blitz get the ball to the right spot you have to do that over the course of the game and I think that adds a layer of mental fatigue that not a lot of people are thinking about and then you add on the fact of dang I'm getting hit in my jaw like every four plays. I'm tired of this I'm physically tired I'm mentally tired I'm going to the right place and yeah like six and seven yards is cool and I and I like that I'm going to the right place and making the right decision but eventually I'm gonna get sacked Eventually there's gonna be an incompletion, and all of a sudden it's third and long, and you may have chunked down the field for 40 yards, but now you've got a long field goal or you're punting. And you're like, geez, like the offense, we put up some yards, but we didn't really get anywhere. And i I I think it's so it's so cool to watch. But yeah, you got to tip the cap to Brian Flores. he was right onto a and again, there's a reason he stuck around in Minnesota. He knew the defense was there, and he knows that that offense with KOC is good enough. And guess who's back this week, baby? MVP Kyler Murray. Jarod McInroy: Is he officially back? I didn't I didn't see that news drop, but all right. Nathan Hawthorne: I I saw that he had cleared concussion protocol. I'm not sure if he is back per se. I I will I will be honest though. There's gonna be a learning curve to the offense. You know, once you start getting under those live bullets. First eleven plays did not look good, Kyler. Even before he was out of the game, they did not look good. So I I I'm gonna need him to step up here in week two right after a concussion and kind of make up for my take. Jarod McInroy: The the first eleven plays kind of matter too because they've they've had those plays ready to go for weeks. That Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: that that's a scripted we know what plays we're gonna run, we know what we're gonna do for weeks leading up to it. So that part of it's kind of scary. But let's talk about the division for a second. Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: they're right there. I mean they're they're two and They're so they they're clearly right there. But I hate to say we're right. Like there's there's clearly a last, and then there's a bunch of really good at the top. let's let's stick with the division. I the Packers, man, that they they don't like me right now, and it's kind of looking like we were right. I mean, Jordan Love, I will give him plenty of slack this year as of right now. His O line is beat up. he keeps getting injuries. The he's starting to get into that category of the what if man. like what if he had this? What if he had that? The excuses are gonna continue to run out, however. I just I don't know what to make of them. They're they're clearly they're clearly last place, they're clearly playing the worst. They they just they they lose to Carson Wentz, and now you're in a barn burner with the Jets. A very talented Jets team that we both can kind of agree on. However, Aaron Glenn looks lost. I already made a video about it. Go check it out on our shorts if you want to. But just the just an absolute dud of a final minute of the game that I've ever seen. He allowed Matt LaFleur to To just abuse the rules of the NFL, abuse the clock and and just Nathan Hawthorne: Right in front of his face. Jarod McInroy: manhandle them. you got so you make a stop, your defense makes a stand in your territory, you're on your side of the 50 yard line, you get a stop, they they turn around, let the clock run down, all the way down to 21 seconds. You had two timeouts. You could have used one. They could have punted the ball. Maybe you blocked the punt. Maybe you're in there. Like there's so many different things that are good that could happen for you rather than nothing other than bad things that can happen if you let them run down the clock. If you let them take the 10 second runoff. Now they just have a free throw at the end zone. That would have been the greatest outcome this weekend if that would have worked out. When I saw it happening all live, I was hoping Jordan Love would throw a touchdown just so we could fry Aaron Glenn for an absolute disaster class. The Jets are the Jets. Bad teams are bad teams. It it's it's embarrassing. But that's who you're competing with if you're the Packers. That's who you're going down to the wire with. And you want to talk about you're in this division. I I just I disagree. I I have a hard time believing it. And they have not proven me anything but correct at this point. two weeks in. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, I think this was kind of a coaching disaster for both teams. The Jets, you know how I feel about Aaron Glenn. I think he's a good defensive coordinator. Not all coordinators are coaches. Last year, your defense didn't even have an accidental interception. You didn't even get the quarterback to throw you a meatball sub. not a single time. And that tells me that if you can't get at least your side of the ball right, you're not gonna be great. Shout out Colin Cowherd for that one. Matt LaFleur, we already know he had the losing streak. at all those games he had lost in in historic fashion truly being in possession, being in control of the games and finding a way to lose. And my beef with Jordan Love now is you got paid before you had earned the right to be paid. And your cap hit is only gonna continue to go up. It's like seventy two million in twenty twenty eight and in twenty twenty seven. So just next year, one year away essentially, it's going to be what is it? Like north of sixty. So my deal is Jordan Love, things aren't going to get easier for you. They paid you for they paid Christian Watson. That was gonna be your best weapon. I'm sure you had to have had a say in it if they were willing to do that, instead of letting a guy who gets historically injured go. Your offensive line, it's gonna be a little bit of patchwork. You're gonna have to bring in a free agent who's not as expensive. You're gonna have to be able to develop and and and work with these rookies or young players coming in. And that's just the truth of the matter. Mahomes has dealt with that. Josh Allen has dealt with that. Although Josh Allen had the one of the best rushing attacks. But every great quarterback, once you sign that multi-year big extension paycheck. It gets harder to win games because it gets harder to put weapons and players around you. Now I think Matthew Golden has potential to really step up big. Christian Watson, we've already seen what he can be in week one. I can't give you the excuses right now. I know the O line is tattered and and LaFleur was talking about having Tucker Kraft, you know, in there for a few plays. I don't give me that. Everyone deals with a tattered O line. The Lions two years ago. The Chargers last year. Justin Herbert took the Chargers to the playoffs with a battered O line. I'm not gonna keep belaboring the point, but the Packers, we talked about the wheels potentially falling off this year with Matt LaFleur. And it looks like they're falling off a little sooner than we anticipated. So that division's tough. Lions are interesting. I just wow. Wow. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. And now the ki yeah, like you said, the Caleb Williams injuries just kind of throws a wrench into this, but hopefully he comes back. All the memes on Twitter are just too much for me at this point. I'm just like, let's let's punt even talking about the bears for like three weeks and then we'll come back to because there's there's Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Again. Jarod McInroy: not there's not much we really even can like say or or do to digest what they've done so far. Really good, really bad, whatever. Like they're they're they're kind of around. It's really just the the rest of this division. Nathan Hawthorne: What a what I would like to do is just call out the mainstream media for just the over dissection of this game in particular. It was played in a downpour. Neither offense or defense got to execute anything that they wanted to do. To sit there and look at like, well, Ben Johnson's talking about the scoring record and he couldn't do this in the monsoon, blah blah blah blah blah. Yeah. It's hard. It's hard to do. I'm just saying Jarod McInroy: Hey, shut up. That's all I got. Nathan Hawthorne: The the way that it was dissected in the in the media was just out to me it was out of control. But I digress. I digress and we move on. Jarod McInroy: It was ridiculous. Who's next? Nathan Hawthorne: who do we have next year? the Chargers, you got some explaining to do. And this is another topic that's been just belabored, but Jarod McInroy: Hey, can I kick this one off? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, k by all means. Jarod McInroy: Let me take this one for a second. What an idiot I am. I I fell for it. I I have done nothing but grill this team, grill this quarterback for for years now. Years now. I I even we we even did the blind resumes with him and Tua how how identical they look. And they've and I come out on I go out on a limb. I give them an AFC championship spot. I said they're going to just roll through. They might go 0-9. This team has an absolute gauntlet that they're going to play. I and I know that's everybody's popular. Like, yeah, they have a hard schedule. Whatever. Who cares? These were two cupcake wins. They were over a touchdown favorite in both of them. And they looked absolutely atrocious. I I'm taking it all back. I I give that spot to the Ravens. The Ravens have now earned their their spot. They're in the AFC Championship. Chargers. Last place. What a terrible team they are. And and I just it hurts. My insides hurt because I was knowing you were right and then you were gaslit by a couple of social media posts. whatever. Take it away. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, I this Chargers team what hurts the most is being so close and having so much to say and then watching you walk away. Just kidding. That's a song. I don't know if you guys caught that in there. But what actually hurts is just the lack of excuse my language here, the lack of givea shit I'm seeing out there. It doesn't seem like anybody is bought in on this team. And I I know that Mike McDaniel's system is is complicated. He likes to throw in a lot of wrinkles and he likes to make it hard. Part of it is, do you have the intelligence on the receiving core to do that? Take that for what you will. I'm not gonna belabor the point, but it just doesn't seem like they have the personnel that understands where they need to be, how they need to be aligned, when their motion starts, when their motion doesn't start, the depth of their route. It just doesn't seem like all those little things that that offense needs to be precise, detailed in time and in rhythm, it doesn't look like they understand how to execute that. And then you get out there and it just looks horrendous. And then you throw on the injuries to the offensive line, your center that you paid a bunch in the offseason. And then you throw in a bunch of draw it just Jarod McInroy: Well, to tack onto that point too, it takes a very smart offensive line to run that offense as well. Because one, with having, you know, a bunch of guys in motion, you have weird snap counts. You have like there, there's and he also has very elaborate run schemes. You have a lot of offensive linemen moving around in in different blocking schemes. So you have to be very intelligent, all on the same page. And this O-line really hasn't had the reps together. filling in different injuries, things like that. So it it makes sense that it's not working, but at the same time, the play calling is still just as bad as it was when he was in Miami. The play choice it just he's running screen passes. He never threw you now have an arm. You have a guy with a big arm and you won't throw it past the sticks on third down. It it makes no sense to me. yeah he's just continuing to do the same thing. And now you're in a division with you know a Raiders team that's two and A Chiefs team that looks like they're all the way back. good Nathan Hawthorne: All the way back. Jarod McInroy: luck, man. And even the Broncos had a bounce back. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, and let's go ahead and jump right there, I think, to the to the Jaguars and the Broncos. I don't think we had this on the list, but I thought it was important to note, yes, the Denver Broncos kind of got undressed week one. You know, new first time play caller. You go up against a Chiefs team that has everything to prove in week one. Whereas the Denver Broncos, you're like, Yeah, we're back. You know, we still got all of our things and our stuff and we added Waddle. So just an entirely different and a just a huge surprise with Eric Bienemy coming in. And The Denver Broncos showed up in week two and said, Okay, sorry about last week. We're actually here because you went up against a Jaguars offense that has been absolutely rolling and you brought them back down to the level that most people have seen them at for a number of years. Passer Tan was on lockdown. The the pass rush was incredible. And you made Trevor Lawrence have to work for everything and he just couldn't find anything. The run game couldn't get going. I know they don't have a great running back, but you just took away everything that Jacksonville had loved to do. Over the last end of last regular season into this year. And again, I just thought it was great to see them bounce back. So just in the note of this division, Broncos are probably they I think that they still have a chance to come back and split the game with the Kansas City Chiefs. but it's kind of looking like the Chargers went from top of this division, AFC championship, me, me, me, me, moo, all the way down to the bottom. Jarod McInroy: All the way down. Nathan Hawthorne: All the way down. So, but yeah, they gotta win it, they gotta win a Jarod McInroy: While we're still in this, Nathan Hawthorne: few games in this gauntlet. Jarod McInroy: yeah, while we're still in this division too, let's hop over to the Chiefs for a quick second that we just saw last night. If we're holding the media accountable, I we as I said, we were playing cards or sorry, Sunday night football, rather. Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: I was playing cards with my family. We're just hanging out at the table, had the game on in the background. It was early on in the game, you know, kind of letting it play. Just touchdown this Chiefs that. I I thought they were up 42 to zero. I I genuinely just Nathan Hawthorne: Ha ha. Jarod McInroy: by not even looking at the score of the TV, just listening, I thought they were up by a ton. And it's it's egregious at this point. What Chris Collinsworth is washed. I'm calling you out by name. They Nathan Hawthorne: Now here's the guy when he Yeah. Jarod McInroy: they just the glazing of of Patrick Mahomes is unbelievable. And now he's playing great. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, but that boy nice. Jarod McInroy: He's nice. But I feel like we I can't even like think objectively about this team because of how much I'm getting overfed, just all of this. Just stop it. The Colts played a very good game against them. they it it was a good game down to the wire. And I just the it ruins the viewing experience. Now to the actual game, the Chiefs are back, they look great, the run game looks great. canine. They're getting their money's worth out of it. They certainly are letting that boy run. And hand up accountability. We didn't know who who this Emmett Johnson guy is. What a guy. I mean, he looks like he's he's gonna be talented for them running down or going down the line. So yeah, hand up on us. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. As as Emmett Johnson heats up, they might be able to truly go into a tandem. And every Kenneth Walker fan is like, please no, this can't be like Charbonnet. B enemy would never do that. He knows where the money's at and he knows Kenneth Walker, just the amount of times that he he's so patient and he can wait for the hole to open up while staying active and making defenders look like feel like they can't close yet. He just turns those, you know, two yard got a grinded out runs into four, five, six yards. It's impressive. I think I want to do the first personnel report. And you guys are gonna see a lot of these throughout the year. I'm gonna do a personnel report every single week. It's gonna be based on a number of teams. It's gonna be based off of not just players, but coordinators. So we're gonna see this. And after week two, Eric Bienemy, wow. I he is the number one person on the personnel report because of the way he's changed the Kansas City offense. The loss of Matt Nagy was not a loss. They gained by adding By adding Eric Bienemy and the offense and the way it looks is so much more decisive. It's more clear for Patrick Mahomes. And it allows Mahomes and Kelsey to do what they do, which is hey, you see this gap in the zone? Yeah, all right, I'm gonna throw it to you in that gap. What we saw with Matt Nagy was an offense that says, Hey, here are the plays that we have drawn and schemed up this week to match this defense. These are the plays that we are going to call. And on weeks where it worked, great. And on weeks when it didn't work and the defense was set up to stop it. They had a tough time moving the football. Bienemis offense is so much more modular in a sense of he has a scheme and a concept and it allows Mahomes to have control with his wide receivers. And I'm sorry, I saw Taekwond Thornton cross a ball on a deep crossing route, right? And not not a deep post, not a go ball, a deep crosser, a dig, 15, 16 yards. When was the last time you saw Taekwond Thornton catch any ball, anything other than just running straight down the field? So now we're actually using receivers in more than one way. I'm so excited for Eric being me in this Kansas City Chiefs offense. It looks different. It feels different because it is different. Jarod McInroy: And that's your first first personnel report right there. Nathan Hawthorne: That's the first personnel report. Jarod McInroy: I love it. All right. Well, hey, this has been a great episode so far. Let's finish it off with our rapid fire reactions for the week. Okay. Here's what's gonna happen, listeners. I'm just gonna go down every single game that was played. We're gonna give very quick one to two sentences each on on what we thought about the game. And and then we're gonna get because we want to talk about everybody's team. You know, if you listen this long, you deserve it. So Let's start Nathan Hawthorne: Amen. Jarod McInroy: off with the Thursday night football game. We had the Detroit Lions losing at the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo, your defense sucks. Detroit, your defense also sucks. A lot of really good offense being played. Buffalo is in control the whole time. All Nathan Hawthorne: Retweet. I got nothing to add. Jarod McInroy: right. Carolina at Atlanta. listen, Bryce Young, this offense, they're they're legit. They're they're here to play. I picked them as my division winner for a reason. They're gonna have to continue to prove it against teams that actually have the quarterback, but Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Atlanta, I don't know what's going on with Michael Penix. Yes get somebody on the field. I don't know what you have to do, get somebody on the field 'cause this is embarrassing at this point. Carolina is the real deal. They're a good team this year. Jarod McInroy: Yep. Minnesota at Chicago, we already said slop game. Don't read into it too much. good win for Minnesota. Philly at Tennessee. Tennessee held their own the whole time. That that was a team you did not want to go into Nashville this week. but Jalen Hurts looked pretty atrocious. So I'd I I'm not gonna read into that too much if I'm Philly. Nathan Hawthorne: If Jalen Hurts didn't look great, but he looked great when it mattered. and I think that that offense is gonna continue to progress. They're gonna unlock Saquon Barkley here in the next couple weeks and the offense will start to roll. Titans, yep, just keep being feisty, doing your thing. I am gonna raise a flag on Cam Ward. I'm not sure if flag Jarod McInroy: Well, flat flag raised. Nathan Hawthorne: raise. I am not sure that Cam Ward can do the things that are required of an NFL quarterback starting at the line of scrimmage and then completing the easy passes. He gets out of the pocket a little bit early, which is typical of a young quarterback. I know I'm not gonna go too much into it, but I'm raising the flag on Cam Ward. It's it's time to be concerned. Jarod McInroy: Heard. Nathan Hawthorne: Time to be concerned. Jarod McInroy: Heard. Alright, Pittsburgh at New England. Ugh I told you New England would bounce back, but honestly, that was just a snoozer of a game. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, they bounced back in a way that I didn't anticipate. You but you called it Steelers are buns. This team's horrible. Aaron Rodgers is bad. Drake Jarod McInroy: It's gonna be an awful team. Nathan Hawthorne: May played awful. Jarod McInroy: Speaking of bad teams, Green Bay at Jets. We already talked about it, but sound the alarm if you're Green Bay. Let's set it in a bad direction. Nathan Hawthorne: Sound the alarm if you're the Jets. You're you you have the talent to be a top to Jarod McInroy: Two alarms. Nathan Hawthorne: be a ten to be a ten win team, but you've got a coach that's gonna inhibit you to maybe three. Jarod McInroy: Yep. Cleveland had Tampa Bay. That was just a weird game with the delay and everything. Cleveland won but this is exactly why the Panthers to me are clear cut division favorites right now. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. It Buccaneers, another team that we thought the w wheels might fall off this year, a Todd Bowles firing midseason could be loading. Jarod McInroy: Yep. same division. New Orleans ends up beating Baltimore. they're looking really good right now. So watch out for New Orleans. Nathan Hawthorne: Watch out for New Orleans. For the Ravens, every first time play caller, it it happens. You fall in love with your plays and you forget that you've got Sir Derrick Henry on the squad. And you forget and you abandon the run. I get it. It would happen to me too. But t just tote the rock. Just tote the Jarod McInroy: Town the rock. Bengals, Texans. Bengals look really good again. obviously a very potent offense. against the talented defense put up twenty. So good win for them and hopefully they keep rolling. Nathan Hawthorne: Houston offense, get rid of Nick Cayley, please. Bengals, hey, keep chugging. Hoodé. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Jacksonville at Denver. We we talked about this one too. Jacksonville is is back, but this was a a tough game on the road against a team that came with the with the game plan and they executed perfectly. So Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Jarod McInroy: tough tough one. Nathan Hawthorne: Jacksonville kind of sipping their own Kool-Aid, I think, that week. And then you had a Denver Broncos team that got their ass spanked in front of the nation. And so they had to come back and win. Jalen Waddle, what was that? Eight receptions, nine receptions? Mm. I love to see Jarod McInroy: A lot. Nathan Hawthorne: that. I love to see Jarod McInroy: Vegas at Chargers. Vegas sneaky good. Chargers not sneaky bad. They're awful. Nathan Hawthorne: Not sneaky bad. Very evidently bad. Jarod McInroy: now this one we didn't talk about it much. You staked your whole reputation on the Washington Commanders winning this football game against the Cowboys. However, I will give you Jaden Daniels went down. So we're gonna call it a wash. Good bounce back win for Dallas. They looked really good. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, I didn't see enough from Washington to convince me that David Blau is gonna be the right coordinator. I think, Jane Daniel's still talented, but your best ability is availability and he has not been available. Cowboys offense, we know it's gonna be great. Defense, I jury's still out. Jarod McInroy: Yep. Seattle at Arizona. They're treading water. Drew Locke is gonna get a bag from somebody, probably just playing good enough. So hats off to him, hats off to that team. Mike McDonald is officially my favorite coach in the NFL right now. Nathan Hawthorne: He Mike McDonald, Seattle's great. We talked about them. They have the potential to be you know back to back Super Bowl champions. And if you're Mike LaFleur, unfortunately, you come from the Shanahan McVay tree. McDonald's seen plenty of that. So you walked into a bus he knows your game plan Jarod McInroy: Yep. Nathan Hawthorne: and he sent you back to the bottom. good try. I respect it, but just different classes. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Miami at San Francisco. No notes. Indianapolis at Kansas City. That Nathan Hawthorne: Ha ha ha ha ha. Jarod McInroy: was a good game. Casey's back. and hats off to Danny Dimes. He he looks way better than I anticipated him looking after his injury from last year. So so hats off to him and that team. They look competitive, but they're just gonna lose too many games. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, I totally agree. Jonathan Taylor makes Daniel Jones look halfway decent. they're so dependent on Jonathan Taylor. He's gonna be absolutely ran out of gas by week ten. Chiefs are back, although that run game looks a little sketchy, but you're not gonna run into that offensive line and into John Jonathan Taylor week in, week out. Jarod McInroy: No, final game. Giants at Rams. you were you were talking about are they all glamour? No hammer. Aaron Donald's back and he is all hammer, I'll tell you what. good for them for coming back and and good for Sean McVay putting a hand up and saying it was bad travel plans by me. I put the team in a bad situation. So they're back in a big way. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, back in a big way, but she cost herself a division win. And that's that may come back to bite you later in the season. San Francisco's falling apart, just falling off the bone. Jackson Dart, I'm really sorry about that injury. That really sucks. I don't think he deserved that. I think this team deserved an opportunity to play things out. So it's a bummer. Brian Burns injury. I think was it Zach Thomas, one of their offensive linemen, also injured. So just the optimism just got sucked right out of the air. You hate to see it. Jarod McInroy: Hate to see it. Well, thanks for bearing with us. as these weeks go on, we're gonna have teams on by, so it's not gonna be this many games. But that was your first rapid fire reactions to week Nathan Hawthorne: Rapid Jarod McInroy: two. Nathan Hawthorne: Hey and share that rapid fire reaction with your best friend. I know that there's some great stuff in there. is that gonna do it for the episode as well? That's gonna do it for the episode. Jarod McInroy: That is gonna do it. Nathan Hawthorne: Ladies and gentlemen, we just gave you the keys to the kingdom, the keys to understanding the dynamics of the twenty twenty six NFL season here at KYP. You heard it here first. I promise you you did. We're gonna be ahead of the mainstream media all year. So just stay locked in, turn on those notifications. My name's Nathan Hawthorne. This is my co-host Sherrod McEnroy, and we We'll see you on the next one.
