- 0:51the top right. They are so self sacrificial.

- 1:05We've had officials equipment, providers Etc, on the podcast.
- 1:10Today, I don't know what kind of trouble were going to get into,
- 1:12because I've seen some of their content, and I was a little
- 1:14scared on how they were gonna see how they did some other
- 1:17people. So, but now, you're on my show,
- 1:18I get some control. So help me welcome from the two
- 1:21black runners podcast running report.com, the wise and
- 1:24wonderful mr. Josh and Arin pots, gentlemen,
- 1:27how are we doing? Welcome to the show.
- 1:29I'm doing well. Doing well, yeah, doing good
- 1:33man. Coming off a high, doing a lot
- 1:35of stuff coming from conferences and lot of contents and getting
- 1:39pushed out in the Past week so doing great.
- 1:42Yeah, you know this is fun. You guys you guys are a little
- 1:44bit more immediate and we I live in podcast world.
- 1:47So if you're listening you're probably listening right now
- 1:49near the end of March. We're actually recording this at
- 1:52the end of February and I did just see what you get.
- 1:54What you're just talking about. There are you guys were at some
- 1:57kind of tell me what it was. It was like a running conference
- 2:00but it was like maybe media running conference specifically
- 2:04So what's the run? USA industry conference and the
- 2:08conference is mostly made up of race directors all over the
- 2:12country. Like Ted meticulous.
- 2:14Is there like the director of the Minnesota marathon?
- 2:19Is there. The Ragnar the guy that created
- 2:21like Ragnar's there and then they even have like vendors that
- 2:24create bibs, they're like race roster which is like a
- 2:28registration company is there and it was like just like the
- 2:33first time They had, you know, podcasters they're doing
- 2:37something alive. And we interviewed one of our
- 2:41guests that we have before Mark Rosetta who's a double a double
- 2:45amputee. And he ran a 235 Marathon at the
- 2:48New York City and New York City. So yeah, exactly.
- 2:53That was my same response. When I, when I heard 235 for do
- 2:57fut is great, 235 He was already on your podcast.
- 3:08Yeah. So we had on after the New York
- 3:10City marathon, the end of last year but then the conference was
- 3:16in Orlando and there were thinking like who should we
- 3:18bring on? And, after talking to Marco, we
- 3:21knew he lived in Orlando. So it was all like that's all he
- 3:24lives in Claremont, but that's not too far away.
- 3:27So we just hit a Marco. Come do this and got to do with
- 3:31him and he stole the show. You stole the show and then we
- 3:33also Like people really connect with his story story is crazy,
- 3:38just how everything went down and then Patrick Stickman from
- 3:42ESPN. Also did like an interview with
- 3:44us right before the podcast is to some people got to know us
- 3:47and they had this had to see us do like an interview in action
- 3:50with my coaches. That owes, it was really fun.
- 3:52It was a really good time. Can't wait for people to finally
- 3:55well, by the time this comes out, hopefully the podcast will
- 3:58be up on YouTube too as well as a really great story, I'll tell
- 4:01you. He stole the show that in itself
- 4:03is a big Feet. Because this is one of the
- 4:05things that I love about you guys as I've been following
- 4:08along for maybe about the past year.
- 4:09Now, your tag line is it's a running media Outlet produced
- 4:13for the culture by the culture. And the first time I got into
- 4:17experience, what that kind of means as you guys output that is
- 4:21there was a meet I think was called the trials of miles out
- 4:24in Kansas City. I really only watched it because
- 4:27they also have the hurdles and that's my favorite event but
- 4:30they did. Yeah, City's magazine, I think
- 4:32right is the one who put it on. They did a live YouTube with it
- 4:35and did a really in my opinion. Fantastic job on presentation of
- 4:40the meat. But you guys were the on the
- 4:43field interviewers, right? So after the person runs the
- 4:46race, talking about their, you know, how to go and what's next
- 4:49and stuff like that. And honestly, I think you guys
- 4:52kind of, I think you guys kind of stole the show, like, it was
- 4:55a little bit. Like, I don't know if that was
- 4:56your first time but it was my first time seeing it was kind of
- 4:58like whoa, wait a minute. Who are these guys?
- 5:00I got member putting in the chat is like what's these guys is
- 5:03name? You know, number Twitter.
- 5:05So I went to Twitter and tried to find you and all that kind of
- 5:06stuff. Talk to me about running
- 5:09report.com, you've got YouTube, you get nearly a 10,000
- 5:13subscribers on YouTube. You're of course on Twitter and
- 5:15Instagram. This awesome podcast to black
- 5:18runners podcast. Tell us what is this?
- 5:21What is running report? What you guys doing here?
- 5:24Well, really write a report kind of all stemmed from my senior
- 5:28year of high school. I started a YouTube channel with
- 5:31my five with their friends, just like, vlogging are our quest to
- 5:35go to NX and like our senior year.
- 5:37So we were pretty good going into the end of the season and
- 5:40then I tore my Meniscus, like, right before like CIF and
- 5:44everything. So I couldn't race and go on and
- 5:47it's in but I was all like before that were talking about
- 5:49we should start YouTube channel, start YouTube channel and so
- 5:52then I was like, I can't He's so how to start the YouTube channel
- 5:56and everything and went on from there?
- 5:58Kind of built like a cult following and Southern section
- 6:00for like cross-country and like, well I'll say for track in
- 6:04general just like little bit of cult following and then going
- 6:06into once we kept on doing that, then into my freshman year at
- 6:12College, like they kind of like stopped as not vlogging as much.
- 6:16But I just, I just fell in love with the media side of it pretty
- 6:19much. And then I wanted to just keep
- 6:20on, like, do running on YouTube and everything.
- 6:24I didn't want to Vlog, but I was like so that just brought me to
- 6:27what else could I do next? And I always loved like ESPN or
- 6:30just like Fox Sports or the NBA and everything and love that
- 6:34side of it. And when it comes I want to
- 6:36bring that to running because run, He's My First Love of been
- 6:39running since I was five years old from like Club track all the
- 6:41way through and I was like, write anything.
- 6:44I feel like the only way for running to get to that
- 6:47mainstream value that everybody talks about is that it needs
- 6:50that same need to give it what it deserves you need to give it
- 6:53that same type of hiking. That same type of tension and
- 6:56that same that same type of energy that Stephen A would give
- 6:59you. That's that Jalen Rose would get
- 7:01the NBA. That all these people that Ryan
- 7:03Clark would give the NFL, you have to give that same type of
- 7:06energy to it. And I think that's what running
- 7:08report really is trying to definitely bring that bring that
- 7:11to running and all different facets that we possibly can be
- 7:15honest. So if Josh, if you started it,
- 7:17how did you bring your brother? Is it?
- 7:20He did. He just like trying to ride on
- 7:21your coattails. How did Erin getting off here?
- 7:24Well, really, what I started just doing because first was
- 7:26just like the running reports show and I'll do it like once a
- 7:29month and stuff and Aaron was always the person I would go to.
- 7:33I would be all like Aaron. Like what do you think about
- 7:36this life? If I was going to think about
- 7:38like type in the very, very beginning?
- 7:40I was doing like just talking about the marathon and stuff and
- 7:43so he would have person, I would go to and clarify stuff my, or I
- 7:46finish the video. If you like Aaron, what you
- 7:48think about this video and Aaron was the one to look?
- 7:51What we really came in. He was the one who was all like,
- 7:53bro, like we should do. Do a podcast.
- 7:55Like that's what he kept on. Proposing to me like it's do a
- 7:57podcast, do a podcast and then finally, I was like, all right,
- 8:01let's do it. And then I was like, let's call
- 8:02it to Black around here. He's and then Aaron jumped in
- 8:05and we just kind of started rolling from then.
- 8:07And as in really stopped at two black runners, it kind of
- 8:10doesn't work without ehrenreich because it just be you.
- 8:12Exactly. So Aaron, what's your take on
- 8:17this, you pushed for the podcast, where you a runner as
- 8:19well, and we're going to get a little bit more into your actual
- 8:22stories here, but as far as running report, What was your
- 8:25involvement here? Yeah, and it's kind of like
- 8:28Joshua said like we come from a track-and-field family.
- 8:30We have two other brothers as well and I started running track
- 8:33in the second grade club and my dad was the coach and I ran all
- 8:39the way up until college. That is the Pacific.
- 8:41And then I ran for a short stint semi-professionally with the
- 8:45Hoka Aggies. And then, from there, like,
- 8:48while I was in college, I worked at a running store and then I
- 8:51worked at writing warehouse and now I work at Hoka.
- 8:53So, like I'm very, like, always been involved in a Geek for like
- 8:58running media running culture and the running industry.
- 9:02But as Joshua said to like every day in our house, we where we
- 9:06grew up. It's like we wake up, ESPN is
- 9:08on. Someone's arguing is Kobe.
- 9:10The best player in the NBA like to be arguing about like
- 9:14football and stuff like that. So a lot of these conversations
- 9:17we have all the time and like, I myself.
- 9:19Like, at that time I listen to a lot of podcasts to and I started
- 9:23seeing like a couple running podcast come up and I just Was
- 9:27like yo, like Joshua. Like we could definitely do
- 9:29this, you know. I was like, I just I could see
- 9:32it. Like, I feel like if you listen
- 9:33to something see something enough, it's like, you can
- 9:36duplicate it and do it within your own way.
- 9:38And a big part of like the running report to black runners
- 9:41as well as like in the running mediaspace we don't see a lot of
- 9:45like black people people of color in that flavor that you
- 9:49know, it the Forefront no offense to like render space and
- 9:52flowtraq and stuff but that's it's used the distance community
- 9:55and we come from That we are 800 meter 1500 meter Runners.
- 9:59So that seems like kind of controlling that backside and
- 10:03that was kind of like the the goal of a running report of
- 10:07running report as well, when we say for the culture, and by the
- 10:10culture, it's a two-way, it's double age.
- 10:12Like, one being like, you know, for the culture like, you know,
- 10:16black people like, we are of that culture.
- 10:18That's where we come from, but we also come from the track
- 10:20track of field culture. That was a club coach, like, we
- 10:24all like, all my brothers competed, At the Collegiate
- 10:27level like that is who we are and that we put that
- 10:31authenticity into every part of to buy Grinders and running
- 10:34report media. But we're also doing this for
- 10:37the sport. We're doing this for the, we're
- 10:38doing this, for the culture of track and field, because as
- 10:41Joshua was saying, it, deserves to be seen as mainstream it
- 10:45deserves to have that energy that, you know, the NFL that the
- 10:48NBA and all that kids as well. Yeah, I love the authenticity.
- 10:53You know, guys who grew up running track dad's a track, the
- 10:56track. Coach Club try like you know
- 10:58you've been in track for a long time and I'm a huge proponent of
- 11:03what you guys are doing on a grander scale.
- 11:06Meaning, you know, I have in my circle where I run, you know,
- 11:11there's a couple of people started calling me the Pod,
- 11:13father of track and field. It's ridiculous because it's not
- 11:15like I invented this by any means, right?
- 11:18But I am huge in helping people out like when a coach like when
- 11:22covid hit right, coaches had a lot of free time.
- 11:25So, A lot of them wanted to start podcast and I had actually
- 11:29started our podcast here at gallaudet accessible for covid,
- 11:32hit. So, I had some experience on,
- 11:34you know, kind of from the ground, how to get it going.
- 11:37I'm not a big fancy guy, and think you got to do a lot of
- 11:39editing and a lot of equipment expensive equipment stuff.
- 11:41So I helped a lot of coaches and people start their podcast up
- 11:45because to your point just you said it first, you know, the
- 11:48sport deserves it. We're at now we're not getting
- 11:51you. No mainstream media and NBC and
- 11:53ESPN on our track meets and our track people.
- 11:57But it deserves it it really does.
- 11:59So to me I love this, you know, Grassroots, get it started.
- 12:04You loved what you were doing in the CIF and the people you are
- 12:08with and you're like a kind of like this stuff.
- 12:10Get it started. That's the hardest part is to
- 12:11get started man. I love this authenticity that
- 12:13you bring most definitely it. Like at that point to it was
- 12:19like just like starting like the first like YouTube channel.
- 12:21It was called Rosie Project. That was the main thing we would
- 12:24always say. Like, let's do something.
- 12:25Let's do something. You just Never do it.
- 12:27But like once you start doing it and then once you start making
- 12:31it a weekly thing, it's all like it's weird if you don't and
- 12:35especially in something like this with running and like the
- 12:38running media, I've liked what I was doing before my friends.
- 12:41If definitely was cool because I also feel like in that phase as
- 12:44well, like, we were bringing aside to cross country and
- 12:48distance running that people didn't see before since our team
- 12:51was so diverse, like the fastest dude, on our team was a mixed
- 12:55dude, with like dress. And then we have this dumb
- 12:58Mexican. Dude, I think Mexican dudes in
- 13:00this like dude. Like it was it was just so
- 13:02diverse and different that you don't the sea cross country all
- 13:05the time. And then they have that purpose
- 13:08brought into like the running media space.
- 13:09That Aaron was alluding to earlier just being trying to
- 13:13bring that like culture in the track and field which which is
- 13:17which is like it's weird in the sense because it's like that
- 13:22track and field space is so dominant by Sprints and special.
- 13:27The us, like we love the Sprint's, we love the hundred,
- 13:30but when it comes to Media covering it, it's always
- 13:33dominated by distance, especially on like the social
- 13:36media side. Now, when you watch like, the
- 13:38NBC broadcast is going to like they're going to put love on the
- 13:42Sprints and like the Sprint's are going to get that highlight
- 13:44the 100 to 200 to 400 and distance, it still gets its
- 13:48shine, but not as much. But like when you look on the
- 13:50social media side, it's not the it's not the retired track
- 13:55athlete. Andre Runner talking about the
- 13:58hundred, it's some distance guy or some distance cow.
- 14:01So like I just feel like us, I'm not a 100 meter runner back and
- 14:05speak to that in that sense, being able to, you know, having
- 14:07the run so far. And like, speaking of that kinds
- 14:09of City Meat, like, what was really cool about that meat?
- 14:12Like you said, was the 100 hurdles, like, I got to see Dawn
- 14:14Harper, Nelson run and like, I never thought I was gonna be
- 14:17able to see her run. Like that was the highlight, the
- 14:19see her run at the end the day and like, but to see those
- 14:22distance events was really cool too, but be able to see her
- 14:25compete like a legend like that. That those are people that we
- 14:28want to like Elevate more and do more with but it's also just
- 14:32elevating the tires for as a whole and getting what he
- 14:35deserves right now there's something interesting going on,
- 14:39right? This whole hashtag poop gate.
- 14:42I'm sure you guys had an episode on our yeah.
- 14:45Well I don't care about the controversy.
- 14:47What did strike me as someone pointed out on social media as
- 14:51well, you know, that has now hit the New York Times.
- 14:53That's a big crazy media. That's crazy.
- 14:57Yeah, I am going to go out on a limb and say that they will not
- 15:01give the same amount of attention to the USA indoor
- 15:04championships that are going to happen this week in that were
- 15:06recording and the internal a championships that are going to
- 15:09happen in two weeks. From when we're recording, media
- 15:12has traditionally at least for the last, I don't know.
- 15:15I'll say 20, 30 years, go back to the early 90s.
- 15:18You guys probably weren't even born back then, but the media
- 15:21traditional media has really focused on track and field on
- 15:23only the - when we have a PDF. Bust some kind of controversy.
- 15:29Now this whole crazy stuff going over in Arizona.
- 15:32So I love that, you know, it's not just your culture in regards
- 15:35to, you know, your race but I think it's also your age that
- 15:39you you're bringing a younger demographic thought process into
- 15:42it, which is cool because you're interviewing a lot of people
- 15:44that are at or just above or just below your ages.
- 15:48I'm good. Yeah, Frank but around that
- 15:51time. So you bring a different
- 15:52perspective along with the culture side of it as well.
- 15:57Yeah, most definitely and I think I think that's key for
- 16:00sure. I think bringing diversity and
- 16:02like all aspects from, you know, gender to ethnicity, to age to
- 16:09event and I feel like that is truly what makes tracking feel
- 16:12special. When you look at track and
- 16:14field, you got someone that can lift 500 that could squat 500
- 16:18pounds. And you got someone that can run
- 16:20six miles fast like super fast. And then, you got someone who
- 16:24could jump a super fard. If it's super Distance.
- 16:27So it's like in track and field there's so much diversity in the
- 16:31type of people that are out there competing but we don't
- 16:34always have the inclusivity you know will focus on like one
- 16:38event or one person more than the other.
- 16:41And then like we're not capturing all the true stories
- 16:45that we really can be highlighting or like you're
- 16:47saying like we'll just focus on like something negative but
- 16:51there really is like so many stories.
- 16:53So it's like, how do we like have all these different things
- 16:55going around? And how do we align them?
- 16:58So we can get, you know, the person that watches long jump,
- 17:01interested in the person that throws shop put interested in
- 17:05the person that's running the 400.
- 17:07And I feel like that's a goal. And then like I uh I mean being
- 17:10me being from the industry to, I want to be able to connect with
- 17:13just like a regular person. Yeah, that goes out on a run in
- 17:18the morning or something or someone that used to run sprints
- 17:21in high school. Like I want to bring them into
- 17:23the fold to. Yeah, that's what boggles me.
- 17:26In fact, I was just my boss. My VP of sales, we were just
- 17:30having this conversation yesterday, you know, on the high
- 17:32school, level boys and girls track combined is the largest
- 17:35sport. There is bigger than football
- 17:37basketball cetera. Yeah.
- 17:38On the college level, the men and women track and field
- 17:41combined is bigger than football.
- 17:43So there are, if you look out your window when you're driving
- 17:46in your crazy traffic in California, and you look at the
- 17:49cars next to you, it's a pretty good chance that that person ran
- 17:53track at some point in their life or had a family member.
- 17:56Ember. Yeah I got like a yeah.
- 17:58Father mother father or son? Daughter, uncle and Etc.
- 18:02There's so much like track and field is almost everywhere and
- 18:05yet when you go to a meet, all right, no one there and if he
- 18:09wasn't on TV, no one's there. And the crazy thing is that most
- 18:12of those people like, they don't know who it thing mode is.
- 18:15And like, a thing mode is probably the most like the best
- 18:19person to have like as a star right now.
- 18:22Like, and they don't even have any know who should carry
- 18:24Richardson is to as well. But They also like going back to
- 18:28your saying earlier about like the age thing, I think it's also
- 18:31really cool to whenever to interview people because I'm 21
- 18:33years old. So like being able to talk to a
- 18:36thing like if it's at because we're out of the pre-classic
- 18:39like through a press conference or even I was able to interview
- 18:42her through like Zoom. I think it was like, it was just
- 18:44like super relatable like, we're not the same age but like if
- 18:48we're in that same generation or talk to like Brandon Miller or
- 18:51even talking to Louis Grijalva as well, like these people are
- 18:55young doing Great things in the sport and like I think they see
- 18:59us they see us in a sense right now that like they want to push
- 19:03the sport forward and get better in the sport and they see us in
- 19:06the media like we're trying to push forward and push and do
- 19:10better for the sport so that lets like work together to try
- 19:13and get to. This end point that we can all
- 19:16eat in a sense at the end of the day.
- 19:18So I think that's what's really the good thing about us being
- 19:21like on like the younger side and having that like younger
- 19:24view to be able to kind of Grow with these athletes, in a sense
- 19:29that are kind of rising right now.
- 19:30And there's a lot that are that are rising up to the top that
- 19:33are really young doing incredible things recently.
- 19:38We just had three Richardson, really?
- 19:41I thought was a really awesome interview on.
- 19:43I think was Teen Vogue but I didn't understand she's a team.
- 19:46I don't read that. I also realized that what I was
- 19:50not the target audience at all for that matter, read the
- 19:54article with the pictures and all that kind of stuff and What
- 19:56a great that that might be the first time I've seen like an
- 19:59interview or, you know, something from her that showed
- 20:02like who shaqiri Richardson the person was and not just, you
- 20:05know, 1060 or whatnot, you know, whatever.
- 20:07PR and of course all the hubbub around the Olympic trials and
- 20:10Olympics, it's tough. I thought that was like, really
- 20:13humanizing like, oh, wow, this is a real person, whose skill
- 20:16set is to run fast. But what a, what a real person,
- 20:19what a great to your point. About a thing though and stuff,
- 20:21what a great representative of our sport, like more people
- 20:23should care about her and a thing and gosh, Fred Curly.
- 20:27I mean, just amazing people that are out there.
- 20:31Yeah, I need to actually read that article.
- 20:33I didn't know that was I do out there because I would love to
- 20:35like carry someone to that. Like, I don't know, I listen to
- 20:38like the IM f-- Lee. I'm athlete podcast sometimes or
- 20:42like Pippi or even like the shop like I think like she's the type
- 20:47of athlete that needs to be like, on those, on those
- 20:50platforms like like speaking. So people could get to know her
- 20:54as a person because I think I think she could be like the
- 20:57biggest star we've ever seen, especially Once she starts
- 21:01winning medals, so young have to check that out.
- 21:04So pivot in here a little bit. I had a question because you
- 21:07guys are distance Runners but also I should say distance
- 21:10background but also very, you know, kind of hip to all of the
- 21:14events or at least, you know, want to pay attention to all the
- 21:16events. So recently, there's been a
- 21:19couple of squawkers about this whole four-minute mile thing.
- 21:23I think a lot of it has to do because there's so many people
- 21:26specifically on the college side that are hitting it, right?
- 21:28I mean I think it's an 85 475 Collegiates are going to or have
- 21:33broken the four-minute mile barrier at this point.
- 21:35And I think it's like to get into the D1 Nationals.
- 21:38It takes 356, which is just ludicrous.
- 21:41I mean that's that's crazy. But someone was talking about a
- 21:46couple of people have been squawking that you know, we
- 21:47celebrate the four-minute mile but it really like it's no big
- 21:51deal anymore. Like maybe we should be
- 21:53celebrating the 350, or something like that and the
- 21:56people, some people have been trying to compare to like the 10
- 21:58flat and 100 and kind of stuff like that.
- 22:00What do you think about the four-minute mile is age group?
- 22:03We are, you know, my age group four-minute mile was like, yeah,
- 22:06it still isn't my pain because it's an easy round number right.
- 22:0960 seconds per lap and all that kind of stuff.
- 22:10But but I don't know. What do you think about just?
- 22:13Is it still a big deal? Should we stop celebrating it?
- 22:16What do we do? We do here for a track and field
- 22:18in the mile. Go ahead.
- 22:22Go ahead. I knew I know you wanted to say
- 22:24something so I was going to let you go.
- 22:27No. Like it's a lot that's why.
- 22:28I mean it's a tool that's a lot on me.
- 22:31Like I feel like that question but I still think it's a big
- 22:34deal to break forward and like I still think it's in a it's a
- 22:36nice hard me. Yeah it's accomplishment no
- 22:39matter who does it like just because a lot of people does it.
- 22:42I don't think that D values like the mile but I think the mild
- 22:47does get extra love because it is the Mi it's for life.
- 22:51You know, for me, it's is around number, you know, someone once
- 22:55said that you would die, you know, we know that's not true,
- 22:59you know, we know that's not true, but so is someone was a
- 23:02tight. So, I'm put the hype on that.
- 23:04But someone also in the past, put, I just thought of this
- 23:07right now. People used to think you would
- 23:08dive from running a marathon. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:11Like this. The first person dies people
- 23:13used to think women can't run marathons, but if you run a
- 23:16marathon, and you run it in three hours, so you weren't in 5
- 23:19hours. Are you ready in 2 hours?
- 23:2030 minutes. It's like, you know, it's still
- 23:22like an accomplished. Like we should be praising even
- 23:26though a lot of people can do, it doesn't mean it's not hard
- 23:29and reticular layer but I get the same to.
- 23:32It's like, yeah, why, why is it such a big deal in comparison to
- 23:36other events but like I just don't think it's a bad thing
- 23:39that we celebrate people breaking for like and I feel
- 23:42like that's kind of like where people are starting to head like
- 23:45you know, Yeah, I'm I gruyere I agree are like it's a big deal
- 23:51to break four minutes. Most definitely, like, I don't
- 23:54think breaking four minutes is harder than Breaking 10.
- 23:58I think that's kind of absurd in a way to say that like breaking
- 24:0210 seconds and then 100 is easier than breaking for.
- 24:05I don't know about that. That's you got to be pretty, you
- 24:08have you Beast to break 10 seconds in the 100, you know?
- 24:11But just the fact of, like, seeing Colin Solomon, run, 358,
- 24:15and the potentially to see One of his teammates do it this year
- 24:18to possibly. Like I think it's an amazing
- 24:21achievement and I love to see it like be done.
- 24:24There's definitely Deeper conversations that people have
- 24:27tried to go with it as well, but like no, no, what no matter how
- 24:31you cut it, like breaking four minutes is a big deal.
- 24:34And I just think in our society right now like that's just where
- 24:38that's just where it's going to be.
- 24:39It's never going to change like that but I also really feel like
- 24:43it's a really big deal. When a girl also breaks for high
- 24:46school, I'm saying like 2 minutes in the 800.
- 24:49That's that's almost that's almost for me.
- 24:53Even bigger deal to see that happen.
- 24:55If So, like, that's an incredible thing to, and I think
- 24:59that's going to be, they, possibly could overtake that
- 25:02four-minute barrier being that Excellence because we've either
- 25:05have three girls in the outdoor season, possibly break 32
- 25:08minutes and as a high schoolers. And I think that just may be the
- 25:12trend for the next decade will see.
- 25:15I think, I think what the what the problem is and what people
- 25:18are upset about is like breaking for is hard and it
- 25:22accomplishment, right? But no one is saying like hey
- 25:24you broke for so Like the greatest athlete in the world,
- 25:28like, no one is saying that. Like, if somebody, I don't think
- 25:31anyone saying that I never took it like that.
- 25:32I just like, it's just like a barrier.
- 25:34Like, someone breaking for isn't better than someone running 147.
- 25:38Like, we know. 147 is better. We know someone breaking to is
- 25:42better. We know someone breaking running
- 25:44running 98, is better than breaking for.
- 25:46Like we know the times, you know what I mean?
- 25:48It's just kind of like the mile is like this.
- 25:51Like I think the best way to think of it is like the mile is
- 25:53like the marathon is just like you had.
- 25:56They have like these like Mystique accomplishments around
- 25:59them from just like like doing them that.
- 26:01So yeah, yeah that's how I kind of feel about it.
- 26:04I think, first of all, we squash the 10-second four-minute
- 26:07comparison, because way less people have run sub 10 that have
- 26:11run sub 4, but to your point, Josh you brought up that sub to
- 26:15half-mile, specifically for high schoolers for me, that
- 26:19four-minute mile. It doesn't really necessarily
- 26:21represent, you know, four, laps under sub 60 or whatnot.
- 26:25It's Aren T brought up. It represents breaking a barrier
- 26:29because people thought it was impossible, right?
- 26:32Then what was super interesting. If you go and look at the
- 26:34history, you know, so Bannister runs, you know, sub 4.
- 26:38And then, a lot of people started breaking sub for because
- 26:41people saw like, oh, wait a minute, it is possible that
- 26:45somebody did it. So maybe I can't do it.
- 26:46So the next person broke it maybe Sydney Marie or somebody
- 26:49and then it now now, everybody's like, oh gosh, anybody know
- 26:52anybody? Air quotes there by the way,
- 26:54except for, but Time, what I really want to kind of tie these
- 26:57together, Josh's? I think maybe the same thing as
- 27:00having as you mentioned, three high schoolers possibly can even
- 27:04run sub to this year. I didn't know that.
- 27:06I think I knew of one at heard about.
- 27:08I don't feel to keep too much tabs on the athletic side
- 27:10Fleetside, but I think maybe at the ethene, I think Moe.
- 27:15And even before her, and I'm forgetting her name.
- 27:17She was also from Jersey. I think maybe she was the first
- 27:19to say welcome. Yeah, yeah, that's who I'm
- 27:21thinking of I wonder if those two IJ and a thing.
- 27:26Like started helping people to see, like, in high school to
- 27:28help girls in high school. See, oh, wait a minute.
- 27:30I thought 2005 was kind of the Max and then will, you know,
- 27:33maybe go to college and the pros but it's like this barrier of
- 27:37like, oh man, wait, they can do it.
- 27:38Well, then maybe I can do it. Maybe it's another barrier
- 27:41breaker that's going to start open up the floodgates.
- 27:44Yeah. But even like Mary Cain to Mary
- 27:47Cain was she was doing like really just opened.
- 27:50I just feel like to just for the high school girls because
- 27:53because I coach with my dad at Norco, high school and we're
- 27:56Looking at what does it take for it?
- 27:59Because we have this one girl that's really fast as a
- 28:01freshman. What's going to take four to get
- 28:03this state in the mile? And like, literally I've Masters
- 28:07like that time that you got a hit, they just get to State and
- 28:10Division One. Well, just for the southern
- 28:12section, you got to run a 452 in the mile and like, that's the
- 28:16standard. There's, there's something that
- 28:19like, coaches, I figured out and just that like four girls,
- 28:23especially in high school and college, where Really just
- 28:26clicks and they're able to run faster than ever before and I
- 28:30really do feel like it is the girls like auge beforehand and
- 28:34Mary Cain and a thing mode, and then Kaitlyn to, we like two
- 28:37years ago that have shown that like y'all can really run so so
- 28:42much faster. And that gap between like the
- 28:45gap between like a fast high school boy, if I score, high
- 28:49school boy is much more shorter from like a heist, the best,
- 28:53high school girls and the gap between a good high school.
- 28:55Girl, is Enormous. It's so enormous.
- 28:58But this year, especially keeping your eyes on Sophia
- 29:01Gurion Juliet Whitaker and roasting Willis because I really
- 29:05feel like in this outdoor season.
- 29:07Well, we don't know Sophia going on about the race at USAA
- 29:09indoors. So you guys will know what she
- 29:11just made. Ran 800.
- 29:13But then three and eight hundred this year is going to be a sight
- 29:16to see and I really do think it's the next wave and we're
- 29:20going to be looking at the women's 800 in a different light
- 29:23in a couple years because at USA is like Nate championships,
- 29:28like, trying to make the world championships.
- 29:29Like, everyone's gonna be under, like, 158 like that.
- 29:34I don't know, it's or 159. It's gonna be crazy.
- 29:40Maybe I believe she's ugly. She's 19 still.
- 29:43I don't think she's not even 20 for crying out loud.
- 29:47The world's best 800-meter Runner and I have a sneaking
- 29:49suspicion, she's only going to get just a little bit better and
- 29:52better and better as she matures and continues to, you know, add
- 29:56Strength and endurance and speed to her to her repertoire man.
- 29:59Holy cow. It's amazing.
- 30:01I also think to stay of just women fled X2 changing so much
- 30:07because you think about like, you know, at one point women
- 30:10weren't allowed to run the marathon, they got into the they
- 30:13were allowed into the Olympics later.
- 30:14So, like I think there's just so much more room for women to
- 30:19develop and grow and see it like in the 5K, like girls are women
- 30:24are getting closer to Breaking 14.
- 30:26In the 5 and the 5 K, like the record in the marathon is like
- 30:29to 14 and like, they're going. They're going crazy over there
- 30:33on that side too. And all across all events,
- 30:37they're running like a laying Thompson's my rant in five.
- 30:41I don't cross all events. They're improving.
- 30:42So it's and I think that has to do with like, the access to
- 30:47sport for women is like, it still has work so work to do for
- 30:51sure but it's growing more and more and that's why it's like
- 30:55bro, they have Like so much room to improve.
- 30:57So I love the point. You made though, about that
- 30:59comparison for the women's two minutes in the 800s like bro.
- 31:03Let's Joshua. Let's make that a that's to make
- 31:06that a thing like oh, no, whoa, no pun intended.
- 31:11It's like that, you know, great Point Yarn and you're so young.
- 31:17You keep bringing up that women weren't allowed to run the
- 31:20marathon in your ex you're dead set, but there's a lot of events
- 31:25that when you said that it Me think about like how young the
- 31:28training age for women Athletics and certain events are
- 31:31especially for the whole thing, right?
- 31:32Because it wasn't that long ago that there were no women
- 31:35Athletics. Like, women just girls in high
- 31:37school just couldn't. Yeah.
- 31:40Oh gosh. Now, Blake.
- 31:41Well, I had Karen, Dennis from the head coach at Ohio State.
- 31:44She was on the podcast and she was talking about how yeah,
- 31:47there were no opportunities to run track.
- 31:49I begged my way onto the boys team to run in and things like
- 31:53that. And of course, I'm Eating Sue
- 31:57Humphreys. That's who I'm thinking of who's
- 31:58was a Pioneer in women's attract as a specifically who again
- 32:02through high school. She's like yeah, there were no
- 32:04opportunities. I she started the first women's
- 32:06program at Arizona State for crying out loud.
- 32:09Then this not that long ago. Yeah.
- 32:11So pole vault and Hammer just got added to the Olympics in
- 32:152000 and 2004. That's yesterday folks.
- 32:20Yeah. There's only like four Champions
- 32:22basically in those events, man. So I think you're right, I think
- 32:26not only do I have this kind of hypothesis for track and field
- 32:29specifically that is as good as it is right now.
- 32:33I mean, you know, go turn on the TV and, you know, people are
- 32:36doing amazing thing, right? You're not Trevon Rimmel, and
- 32:39Fred Curly's and I think modes that we mentioned etcetera.
- 32:42I mean just how can we forget the 400 hurdles?
- 32:44What's going on there? It's nuts.
- 32:46I was right, I think Actually, just at the beginning of a
- 32:50really crazy period for the next 10 20, maybe 30 years because of
- 32:56really coaching education. I know maybe you guys don't even
- 32:59have worked, like, I've done like usatf level 1 or UST of
- 33:02ccca and things like that, but, you know, when you first get
- 33:05into coaching, you typically fall back to coach how you were
- 33:10coached and you do some coaching education, and you get better
- 33:13and smarter, you talk to other smart people and you start
- 33:16evolving, how you coach, right? Well, we're in such a beautiful
- 33:19time period for coaching education, here for the past 15
- 33:22years. These kids are being coached by
- 33:25better coaches right now. Well, those kids become coaches
- 33:29next. And so, when they fall back to
- 33:31how they were coached to start out with, well, that's going to
- 33:33be at a much higher level. Yeah, in the predecessors.
- 33:36I just think we're as good as we think we have it right now.
- 33:40I think it's about to go nuts for the next decade, 15 years,
- 33:44man. It's going to be amazing.
- 33:46And that's kind of like what because we had a conversation
- 33:49with Shannon robbery. When we were in at the Lilac
- 33:51Grand Prix, doing like some interviews and stuff up there
- 33:55and I can't remember what US championships.
- 33:58It was Aaron. I think it was what she saying
- 34:00like back in like 2008 or something like that but she
- 34:05yeah. She was like a u.s. trials or
- 34:07championships and she was like the only person before the 15
- 34:11like doing like like drills and stuff and doing like Warm up
- 34:16like that, wasn't like the common thing to have like this
- 34:19long drawn-out, warm up before the race.
- 34:23And then, all the other coaches were kind of just watching
- 34:26because they're athletes, were kind of just like chilling at
- 34:29that moment, like an hour beforehand and then the next
- 34:32year, everyone's sort of doing that like because of Shannon's
- 34:36like success. And so she was kind of explain
- 34:39to us like the evolution of the sport throughout the years and
- 34:42really just the training that people have gotten stuck.
- 34:45So it definitely is like, it definitely worked, definitely
- 34:49reaching that Golden Age. And what I love about it too is
- 34:51that we're going to, it's going to lead up all the way to 20 28,
- 34:54when the Olympics are in LA. And it's all like, well, for for
- 35:00us, I'm a, I'm kind of like, cuz we first Southern California, I
- 35:03got to see Michael Norman run. So I'm like, Michael.
- 35:05Normally this is your chance. Let's go.
- 35:08Are you running the for under one?
- 35:09But I'm all like, that's really the next seven.
- 35:13Next six years. Like push track and field as As
- 35:16we can and it can, it can be on that level.
- 35:19Where we at least have one segment, on SportsCenter.
- 35:22Like, come on, like let's talk about it in this summer at least
- 35:24once, like it's definitely big enough to talk about least one
- 35:28step one time. So we talked a little bit about
- 35:31it kind of sprinkled here and there.
- 35:33Josh and Aaron tell us a little bit about your background.
- 35:36So you mentioned you kind of hinted a little bit.
- 35:38You said, you ran for a Hoka. I think it was and you ran for
- 35:42your high school Crush. Going to give us a little bit
- 35:44about and your background and track.
- 35:45She is an athlete and your dad's a coach, so I automatically have
- 35:49a lot of love for your dad. Tell us about your dad, his
- 35:51influence on you guys for the family and you mentioned two,
- 35:55other brothers, which means are you going to change the podcast
- 35:57name one day? Are they going to get involved
- 35:59in here and we'll go find a way we could find something for them
- 36:03to do but basically like yeah how it started was no, our dad
- 36:08was a professional boxer for a little bit and he ran like a
- 36:12little bit, you know, in high school, you know, to get in
- 36:15shape. Like do cross country.
- 36:17And then basically, you know, instead of us boxing, he, he
- 36:21knew that track was a, was a sport that you could get a
- 36:25scholarship scholarship in. There's a lot of opportunities
- 36:28there, you know? So that's that was like the
- 36:30whole purpose on Puttin, putting this in track and start off with
- 36:32her older brother Caleb, who was like, I had a lot of talent in
- 36:36the 800 and then our coach of original coach left.
- 36:41So my dad took over the program and then we kind of all follow.
- 36:45And in the footsteps, laid out, laid down by my brother and my
- 36:49dad and my brother ended up running at any NAU collegiately
- 36:54and running there. And then yeah, I kind of just
- 36:56followed in in that footsteps, running the mile and the 800 and
- 37:01high school and then God's cars to run and Azusa Pacific.
- 37:06But once I graduated, once I graduated like, I wasn't sure
- 37:11exactly what I wanted to do. Originally, I wanted to be, I
- 37:14want to be a coach like that was like My big thing that I wanted
- 37:18to do as well, but I thought there's just something more out
- 37:21there for me and I was liking the industry.
- 37:24So yeah, I was approached by a teammate to like join my list.
- 37:29This semi professional team, in sounds Obispo, how I was, and I
- 37:32was able to continue working, like customer service at running
- 37:36Warehouse as well. So then I was just training and
- 37:39working and then once I got, I got hurt, like around the time,
- 37:43Joshua kind of started reading. Running report and we were
- 37:47always in talks like whenever he was making videos and stuff like
- 37:51kind of working together and that's what kind of lead led to
- 37:54us you know creating a podcast of instantly but track and
- 37:58field. I've just always been a huge
- 37:59part of my life like watching all the meats and everything and
- 38:04our dad is the big. I mean, he could be greased.
- 38:07He's been on some podcast episodes and that guy can you
- 38:09can really he can really talk and he loves track more than all
- 38:13of us. I would say definitely.
- 38:15So, It was definitely instilled in US.
- 38:18You mentioned older brother you and Josh you mentioned your on
- 38:21the cross-country team so I might assume you were kind of
- 38:23eight 15 ish as well on the track.
- 38:26What was that? Your dad's kind of sweet spot or
- 38:28did that just kind of how it fell fell out?
- 38:30You know, fell through with the training for you guys.
- 38:33Well, you know, they say and like they say in boxing as well,
- 38:38like it's 50% anaerobic and aerobic.
- 38:42Like, it's the closest it's the closest to being a middle
- 38:46distance. Distance Runner, interesting.
- 38:47So I think that's, I think that's why like we are.
- 38:51I think we could have been like quarter milers to, to be honest.
- 38:55But I think like some of that Gene is why we kind of like fit
- 39:00in to fit into that. I feel like yeah, my dad would
- 39:04probably say because I'm not really running right now.
- 39:06But my dad, I would probably there.
- 39:09I definitely could have been a 400 Runner.
- 39:11Our brother Caleb was definitely more.
- 39:12He was 48. I end up being more a 15 and It
- 39:16was more a 15 as well but I think I could I definitely could
- 39:19have been a 400 Runner but it was really just around like 14.
- 39:23I kind of made a decision on madhu cross and that kind of
- 39:26where I went but I started writing when I was five years
- 39:29old and I really just wanted to run the eight because I saw my
- 39:32oldest brother. I was brother Caleb, I saw him
- 39:34running the 8 so I was like, I want to do that too.
- 39:37Like it's only two Labs. I remember being little like
- 39:40seeing around like he just he must jog the first left and
- 39:43spread. The next one, like, doesn't seem
- 39:45that hard and then Then I found out yeah this this race is
- 39:48stuff, but did you go to school to run track as well?
- 39:55Yeah, I went to the I end up going to school at Cal State,
- 39:58Northridge first, the Run Track and then I transferred to Mount
- 40:02Sac and I was there for the past two years will they had a past
- 40:06two years to run their? Then I'll go to Cal State
- 40:08Fullerton, but I'm not running collegially to kind of just like
- 40:11focus on focus on school. Focus on, like, pushing the
- 40:15Running Room We're more and yeah, for the most part, I know
- 40:19just, yeah, I just want to get school done with at this point,
- 40:22but I definitely, I definitely feel like I had more left on the
- 40:26track, but I may still get there.
- 40:28We'll see what happens. But, you know, right now, I'm
- 40:31pretty. I feel like I'm still getting my
- 40:33college experience and my college track experience from
- 40:35all the things we've done through the running report.
- 40:37So it's really fun to be able to chop it up with these people.
- 40:41I lost someone, I heard Caleb. That's the older brother that,
- 40:44right? Yes.
- 40:46You go to Northridge? Yeah, we had a fourth brother.
- 41:07He was actually, he's play football and he was a thrower.
- 41:11So he actually he went to Mount Sac as well.
- 41:14And then he got a full ride. To to Cal State Fullerton.
- 41:18But he didn't really get to because of covid and stuff.
- 41:20He didn't really get to compete. But yes, we have a our other
- 41:24brother David. He was a discus and shot.
- 41:27Put throw her. What's up?
- 41:29What's dad's name? Keith pots coach Keith pots made
- 41:35you doing something, right? I imagine there's a whole
- 41:37ecosystem here with family and stuff as well, but for brothers
- 41:41that go on to to college Bravo, that's that's quite amazing.
- 41:46Raising and then to be, you know, for the to specifically
- 41:48hear that you guys are building something of your own, that's
- 41:51amazing man that that's that's Bravo type stuff man.
- 41:54Kudos to you guys like makes me feel even better about what you
- 41:56guys are doing. Honestly man, it's so cool.
- 41:59Appreciate Shadow Pop Star Fox he really did, he, he laid down
- 42:03the he laid down the groundwork and and he put He put the the
- 42:07goals out there, you know, he put the standards out there and
- 42:10let us go reach for and Chase for her and and see where we go
- 42:14end up. And I really feel like Like the,
- 42:17the discipline that I learned through Club track and just like
- 42:21the be able and like they discipline from, from all
- 42:25aspects in life that I learned from Club track, really have
- 42:27helped me through school helped me through communicating with
- 42:31people and helped me through so many ways.
- 42:33So that's why I'm always like if if like a parent would ever be
- 42:36all like she's actually my kids run club.
- 42:38I'm like yes like run Club track.
- 42:41It's it's one of the greatest experience that you can have
- 42:44because I want to like Junior Olympics and Stuff like that.
- 42:46And doing all, all that, when I was a kid, like being able to
- 42:49experience that and like strive for something and even continue
- 42:53through high school and college, definitely kept me on the right
- 42:56path. No matter what, I feel like.
- 42:58So, I speak to a couple of classes in different colleges on
- 43:03Sports careers, right? Because a lot of times, maybe
- 43:08most of the time kids athletes think that the only thing
- 43:11available for them in sports is to become a coach.
- 43:14Like that's the only if I want to stay in sports.
- 43:15Yeah. Coach Wright and I love being
- 43:18able to share, you know, like, for my own example, as a college
- 43:20coach for 10 years and now here at Gill Athletics, and I talked
- 43:24about Administration and I think more track people in it, in
- 43:26college and high school administration is only good for
- 43:28our sport, but I love now, being able to have this example of
- 43:32like, hey, here's two guys that wanted to stay in the sport.
- 43:35Didn't go to coaching because they're going to build something
- 43:38on their own, their own media Empire.
- 43:40If I will say, so early at this point, but I love that example
- 43:43that you're staying in the sport, uplifting the Art and not
- 43:47necessarily as a coach, which is the greatest part in this, in
- 43:49the sport, in my opinion, but I love that.
- 43:51I love the different avenue of staying in the sport and helping
- 43:55it grow. Yeah.
- 43:57And I'm so huge on that. I'm so huge on that because
- 44:00like, like, I'd like back, I was like a nice major in college and
- 44:03I look back to it and it's like, no, I was a track and field
- 44:06major. And I think that's, I think
- 44:08that's a thing for a lot of people in different sports,
- 44:10though. I think people that play
- 44:11college, basketball, college, football or anything, you see
- 44:15them go. 92 like work at ESPN or something of that nature.
- 44:19And I think, now that I work at the Brand level, I'm seeing more
- 44:24and more opportunity. I'm seeing how much these like
- 44:26stores are making and stuff. We're going to conferences and
- 44:29I'm seeing these people have like a registration at that,
- 44:32that people work for like people are making Metals for, like,
- 44:36Metals for a limiting. People are putting on race is,
- 44:39people are designing shoes. Like there's so many
- 44:42opportunities that I think track and field athletes, like Like in
- 44:46particular like we don't like just like how we don't
- 44:49understand or don't watch a sport.
- 44:51It's also like hey there's this entire business of running like
- 44:55that you should be a part of and I feel like if we to make our
- 45:00sport better we need those. Those Advocates like on the
- 45:03inside on the Brand's whispering in their ears.
- 45:06Like hey, don't forget about like this race, that the u.s.
- 45:10indoor is like we can activate. Don't forget about this athlete,
- 45:13doing this or, you know what I mean?
- 45:15I just think of Actually, it will naturally happen if we can
- 45:19get our people in the in here too.
- 45:23And good job. I was going to say, I think
- 45:25that's what was so great about us.
- 45:26Just going to the running industry conference because
- 45:29that's what it exactly was being like former athletes.
- 45:32And then at this, this space of just like industry professionals
- 45:36and like running, it was definitely something different.
- 45:39I would love to see like, more of like this, this influx of,
- 45:43like, younger people going to these conferences as well.
- 45:46Well and being exposed to this other side of running because I
- 45:49just became exposed to it simply just because of like Aaron who
- 45:53works at hook. And now my brother who works at
- 45:56out of running store, now my oldest brother Caleb and so
- 45:59like, but for a lot of people they don't really see that as an
- 46:02opportunity and see that they're they're running like working and
- 46:07running in a sense and a college.
- 46:09And I really working for running but like it kind of stops at the
- 46:12ends of high school or indirect running, like, you can really
- 46:15extend Career with this but you just have to find that lane for
- 46:19you. And so I think being able to go
- 46:21to that conference was really just like it really a good
- 46:24exemplified that I'm like the perfect way to show that like
- 46:27they're the see all these opportunities that are involved
- 46:30in the sport. Another great example.
- 46:33Shout out to my good friend Blake bold and who is now the
- 46:35director of the Drake Relays? He was the director of the
- 46:38Indianapolis Monument Marathon series.
- 46:42He wasn't, I'm not a distance guy and I certainly am not
- 46:46During a marathon but I thought a marathon is like just this one
- 46:48off. Here's 26.2 miles but they were
- 46:50doing you a 5K and 10K. 10K. And I rode my land, real a
- 46:55marathon and then he helped merge the Indianapolis monument.
- 46:58And I think the Indy Marathon I think it was two different
- 47:01organizations, he helped us. So you had to have business
- 47:04Acumen to bring those together, marketing ideas and thoughts and
- 47:08operations, just, you know, blocking off the streets and all
- 47:12this. It's like it's amazing.
- 47:14The things that have to go into it.
- 47:15You Have to just be a coach. Again, I haven't even said that.
- 47:19We're just, it's amazing. Most amazing thing in the world
- 47:21to me. But there are many many more
- 47:23that other avenues for young. People going through college to
- 47:26become this. You brought up here and I was
- 47:28going to ask you because you guys when you go when your
- 47:31listener, if you go to their YouTube channel and it's easy,
- 47:34just go YouTube and literally type in running a report.
- 47:36It pops right up. Hit the Subscribe button.
- 47:39They almost when I'm recording this.
- 47:40I think it said 9.6 that my point 6 K I want by.
- 47:46The time, see if this comes out into march, by sometime in
- 47:48April, this thing's got to be over 10K.
- 47:50Well over so KJ YouTube. But when you go check out your
- 47:53channel your videos lots of cool editing things that I just can't
- 47:57even I can't even spell editing I went to school in Alabama man
- 48:00so I can't deal. Did you guys major anything
- 48:05media media related Aaron? You said you were Kinesiology
- 48:08which might be the farthest thing from creativity and
- 48:11editing and chopping it up and stuff.
- 48:13Josh? What about you where you at?
- 48:15Any kind of Journalism? Or anything like that.
- 48:18I was achenes Major. But then I'm out, I'm knowledge
- 48:21and journalism major now. So I do that now, but it all
- 48:25really well. Like when we started YouTube
- 48:27channel, like with my friends back in high school, I was it
- 48:30was at the same time that I was in was that class.
- 48:33It was like the news class for like the school and so not the
- 48:37news class it was just like a like a video class.
- 48:39So I first learned like iMovie, then I was kind of just like,
- 48:43kind of just like teaching myself how to do.
- 48:46Do it and kind of just like expanding my own creativity
- 48:49through like editing and stuff and just trying to see like,
- 48:52what I see on SportsCenter is something or First, Take, and
- 48:56then just trying to implement that into the YouTube videos or
- 49:00then for Instagram, seeing how like, first housing, all like
- 49:03ESPN or all these other places like do their their post or like
- 49:08all the smoke do their posts. And I was like, all right, I'm
- 49:10just going to figure this out and it at first, it was kind of
- 49:14hard. But then, I think that's what I
- 49:17learned from track and field. Like At first running, 10 miles
- 49:20is Duff running. Two miles is tough at first but
- 49:23after it's the sixth week and you're still running 10, it's
- 49:26all. I all right.
- 49:27That's the long run now. So definitely got used to it.
- 49:31You started out as a major in there and you work and he's
- 49:34major all the way through man because like that shows that if
- 49:38you just grind and kind of the first of all, we have no excuse
- 49:40anymore with YouTube and Linkedin and everything like the
- 49:44Google, it has everything out there, it can teach You
- 49:46everything that you want to do out there but I love that you
- 49:48didn't kind of come from that background, but taught yourself
- 49:51because you had a passion for like that, that seems like it's
- 49:53just even more authentic to me and you had man, that's what,
- 49:58that's what it came from. The that's what it came from.
- 50:00Just like, I don't know, I think at the end of the day, like my
- 50:04goal is to black runners, doesn't get as big as I wanted
- 50:07to be, but I know it can and run reports and get as big as you
- 50:10wanted to be. Like, I'm trying to be honest,
- 50:12I'm trying to be on ESPN like I'm trying to build up my wrists
- 50:15are Always says like, bro, like what we have right now and
- 50:18Instagram and stuff like you're building your resume.
- 50:20So I think in a sense that's what definitely it is.
- 50:23Just this like this side project of building my resume for
- 50:27wherever this takes us. And like people be telling me,
- 50:31I'm like, I look 16 sometimes. So, I'm on like day.
- 50:34I could play a child actor when I'm like 25.
- 50:38So I acting he's not out of the realm of possibility, either.
- 50:41Wherever wherever this takes me, you know, just trying to trying
- 50:45to do Anything that I can to like, try and stay in this space
- 50:48and in this Lane and see see where that takes us.
- 50:51I hate to say that college majors don't matter anymore, but
- 50:55I can tell you both that, you know, if we were to hire like,
- 50:58hey let's hire a full-time. Kind of videographer, social
- 51:01media person and I got a resume that said journalism.
- 51:05Okay, first of all, I was a journalism major.
- 51:07Do you think the things? I learned I graduated in 2000.
- 51:10You think the things I learned in my journalism class from 96
- 51:12to 2000, have a lot to do with today's It was mm.
- 51:17Yeah yeah, I remember being excited.
- 51:20Getting my first Hotmail account by first email account when I
- 51:22was in college. Okay, couple now we have social
- 51:25no phones, Etc, right. But if someone came to me and
- 51:29said, yeah, I may, I may have been a kinase major.
- 51:31But here's what I've done, I created this show and this show
- 51:34and we've got this many subscribers, I'll be like, okay,
- 51:37hold on, cause that's exactly what I want.
- 51:39It's like hire that guy right now.
- 51:41That's yeah, exactly. Right, man, I love that.
- 51:43I love that. What you mentioned.
- 51:45It earlier, I one of my favorite videos and maybe one of the
- 51:48First videos I kind of interacted with you.
- 51:50You probably don't remember because you have so many
- 51:52followers and so everybody interacts with you.
- 51:55But was the interviews from the pre-classic and I was there and
- 51:59I kick myself in the butt that I didn't run into you guys,
- 52:01because you guys did some really cool athlete interviews back in
- 52:05like the media room. But also like in front of the
- 52:07gate and whatever and stuff like that.
- 52:09What has been like, your most fun interview that you've done?
- 52:12Like, maybe the person was more quirkier than you thought they
- 52:15were going. To be and it had more flavor to
- 52:17it or something like that was kind of the most fun memory, you
- 52:20have of all these great people that you've interviewed.
- 52:23Not just famous, like athletes, you know, you interviewed
- 52:26regular people and coaches, as well.
- 52:27What's been? Like, your most standout Well, I
- 52:31can, I think that's that's done so many folks that's all I'll
- 52:37say, I'll say this right now. This wasn't, I mean, we did an
- 52:39interview with with Channing robbery, but I would say like
- 52:43this is, I just recently bias, like Shannon roberry, we met!
- 52:47We met her lilac. That was the first time.
- 52:49And bro, she is so he has so much more like energy and
- 52:53personality than I ever thought. Like, I feel like when she raced
- 52:57like she, they Only showed her like on the track and I just
- 53:01remember her like being like very like killer like mindset.
- 53:05Like but she was like, so chill. So it's so like so funny and
- 53:11super, and yeah. Like you're saying like very
- 53:14quirky. Like I did not, I did not expect
- 53:16that. Expect that from her.
- 53:17Like, I was like, yeah, she's dope.
- 53:19She was just a super nice, super nice person.
- 53:22And that was a great facility, right?
- 53:23Like you were Amazed by yes recently.
- 53:27By see, I did that track. That's all my Put that I put out
- 53:30there. Hey, so I replace all your cute
- 53:34that you killed it. Well, they did.
- 53:36They designed it. They did it.
- 53:37They did an amazing job. Josh, what about you once maybe
- 53:40a person that stuck out was just kind of like it was super cool
- 53:43or just kind of surprised you to interview I would say that would
- 53:47really what sticking out to me is any time that we did like the
- 53:50spelling bee questions and we did that like the pre-classic
- 53:54and we did that at Foot Locker and those were just like it was
- 53:58hilarious, especially Actually, what sticks out to me to is when
- 54:01we did Rebecca Mara, and what Abby Abby Cooper now, but she's
- 54:06a PD back in the day. Like, when we did them in like
- 54:09Rebecca, Mara actually got constanze cluster hoffen, right?
- 54:13And I was like, I was like how I guess it's because he's a
- 54:17Stanford nerd, but I just, it's just funny.
- 54:21And then interviewing every Abby Cooper was really fun.
- 54:24So, I remember like being younger and watching her when
- 54:26she was at Dartmouth, just like destroying but she's just Like
- 54:29the nicest person ever to as well and like she was just so
- 54:33like she was so into it trying to get these like names, right?
- 54:37I think she missed crave, Uncle Epsy as well.
- 54:39And it was just, it was just it was really just like a fun and
- 54:42like good time as well. And then was another person that
- 54:46was like surreal. It wasn't like this person
- 54:48wasn't really like, quirky or like, but it was just like cool
- 54:50and was surreal as when last year we interviewed Michael
- 54:54Johnson. That was like a very surreal
- 54:56moment. And actually, I was, I was, I
- 54:58was, I thought About that, because that's about almost a
- 55:00year to I think was in March when you interview them.
- 55:03So, I was just thinking about that the other day, like, I
- 55:05gotta, I gotta post a thing about that, like, one year from
- 55:09that interview, Michael Johnson. Yeah, it was, it was weird.
- 55:21I was always like, we really doing this is really doing this,
- 55:24like, is this a fake link? But no, that was, that was an
- 55:27awesome experience and like to hear his Hurry and learn more
- 55:31about like that mindset and always is definitely I would
- 55:34love to interview them again. I think we will interview them
- 55:36again at some point like that was cool.
- 55:38Yeah how much like that he has about the sport to and like the
- 55:42direction it's going and everything he's like a he's
- 55:45definitely like an advocate for the sport being white bigger and
- 55:48more mainstream to so that was super interesting.
- 55:52Yeah it's interesting he doesn't have a bigger presence today,
- 55:55right? Because like that was the giant
- 55:57as I was growing up through track and field, right?
- 55:59I mean there was no one bigger better, badder than than him
- 56:02beside you Carl Lewis. And then Johnson, they kind of
- 56:06had some crossover there, of course, but it's amazing that
- 56:09the old. I wonder how many kids today?
- 56:12I say kids know who he is, not was who he is and what he did
- 56:18because we're, you know, to Aaron's point about recency bias
- 56:21bias. We're so caught up in today and
- 56:23not the history of it and I'm not sure many people did as much
- 56:26history. Is that guy did in our sport?
- 56:28Yeah. And we were just talking about
- 56:30that to on our Orlando trip because one of the conversation
- 56:33is brought up just about like, how, like Steve Prefontaine,
- 56:36like, Steve Prefontaine being such like this.
- 56:41Like, he's Michael Jordan for us and track and field when like no
- 56:45offense, Steve Prefontaine, but Steve Prefontaine didn't do a
- 56:48whole lot compared to like a Michael Johnson, like the
- 56:51Mystique of Michael Johnson, in a Carl Lewis.
- 56:54And even even to his extent, like Jackie Joyner-Kersee has
- 56:58like Yeah, we know we may actually be thinking so I'm
- 57:06going to say my part first, I agree with you but we're not
- 57:10supposed to say that because it's pretty and it's track and
- 57:12everything, right? I think it's because he died
- 57:15early. Hmm.
- 57:17So what that allows us to do, like you think about this is way
- 57:20before, your Texas way before my time James Dean was this, you
- 57:24know, Rebel actor. You know the cigarettes in the
- 57:27short sleeve and he died early, right?
- 57:29And think of some of these musicians, Elvis, Presley, Etc.
- 57:32They died early and they become bigger than life, right?
- 57:36Because it a now allows guys like me and you to imagine what
- 57:41could have been, man? Yeah, about a Josh's.
- 57:43If pre would have lived, he was runner-up or for Or whatnot in
- 57:47the Olympics. He would have won the next one
- 57:49and probably 13 events and he would have said all these more
- 57:52American and World Records but maybe not maybe not.
- 57:57I think that's why pre is like this bigger than living large.
- 58:01We know what Michael Johnson could have done because we saw
- 58:03it, you know, we know what Usain Bolt and Carlos could have done
- 58:06because we saw it, but with pre it's like ABS.
- 58:10He was taken too early and so now we get to imagine all the
- 58:13gold medals and world records that he would have won.
- 58:17No. Yeah, go ahead.
- 58:22I was going to say that's definitely that definitely is
- 58:24true. And then, on top of that him
- 58:26being from organ and being able to have like that Nike
- 58:31connecting and Nike. Basically like kind of owns this
- 58:34word in the sentence, being able to plaster him and push him to
- 58:38the very very top and like not really take them off of.
- 58:41It is where that really goes as well.
- 58:45Yeah. You're a but, you know, there
- 58:49was Crossover with Phil Knight who becomes Nike, right?
- 58:52Of course. Yeah percent.
- 58:53There's all this, you know, when we try to dissect something
- 58:58about why it happened. We like to try to find one
- 59:01thing. Like, oh, he went to Oregon.
- 59:03That's why. Usually one thing is not the one
- 59:06thing, so he died early. That's part of it.
- 59:08He went to Oregon. I don't know if Prefontaine goes
- 59:11to Villanova. Yeah, I don't, I don't think so.
- 59:16I just and then Phil Knight, if you know, He doesn't go to
- 59:19Oregon and create Blue Ribbon Sports and then Nike is Eugene
- 59:23Track Town USA at that point. I don't know.
- 59:26It's all wrapped in together. This cultural thing that you
- 59:29couldn't have planned. If you tried a lot of
- 59:32happenstance in there that made it, what it is.
- 59:35And now, Eugene, of course, is track and field Mecca, please
- 59:37for America and at least for another year, right?
- 59:40Because the world Champs what's interesting about that to is
- 59:44like, I was listening to like a podcast cities mag did with Seb
- 59:50Coe and he was like, talking, the ask them, like do people
- 59:53like outside of the us know what Eugene it is.
- 59:57Like it's like you're coming to America for this meat and it's
- 1:00:00like, it's not an l.a. like it's not like in New York.
- 1:00:05It's not like Anna major city, it's in Eugene, Oregon, which
- 1:00:08is, which is cool. But, you know, I want to have
- 1:00:12some races in l.a. man, like, I think that Also like Ella could
- 1:00:18Elevate like this pour a little bit like because those are,
- 1:00:22those are those are the entertainment centers of the
- 1:00:24world. So it's interesting but it is
- 1:00:28all because the film night like he really he really made all
- 1:00:31this happen. So like there are some things
- 1:00:33that feel my has done like you know the Prefontaine like is
- 1:00:36that the best thing for us but it's also like Nike does like
- 1:00:41sponsors. So many people in the sport like
- 1:00:44to be honest, they And so much or track and field are a big
- 1:00:47reason why track and field is relevant at all.
- 1:00:50But I also think sometimes brands have too much power.
- 1:00:53They control. They control the sport too much.
- 1:00:58Yeah, they'll disagree there, when you said about Prefontaine.
- 1:01:00Did you mean the person or that meat?
- 1:01:02Because I think that meat is one of the, oh, the meets amazing.
- 1:01:05I said to my easy. Yeah, okay.
- 1:01:07I was just wondering cause I was like, yeah, that I didn't get to
- 1:01:10go to the pre until relatively late in my life, like,
- 1:01:13literally, maybe seven years ago was my first one and I've only
- 1:01:15been to One other this past year that meat like, to me, that's
- 1:01:19like, oh, that's how track and field, should maybe be packaged,
- 1:01:21you know, one and a half hours. Yeah, we are.
- 1:01:24Something's going on at all times of great announcer,
- 1:01:27keeping you in the loop of stuff.
- 1:01:29Man, that's a meat, buddy hoof. Now the only thing Go ahead and
- 1:01:36say that me last year. And then the Olympic trials,
- 1:01:39when they had it there, that was me through.
- 1:01:42Those are fired, those are amazing.
- 1:01:44I thought you're gonna see it was hot and I was like, well,
- 1:01:46yeah, it was 110 degrees. So yes, sir.
- 1:01:50Well, two things about our trip to like pre that really
- 1:01:53fascinated me just about the meat.
- 1:01:54In general was like, we didn't meet people that either like
- 1:01:58that were alumni as of organ that like, did it run track or
- 1:02:02just people that lived in Eugene that Are like yeah this is our
- 1:02:05this is our 15th of Prefontaine. It was like cuz out here we got
- 1:02:10a Triple-A or double-a a team called the Quakes.
- 1:02:13It was like, people going to go watch the Quakes, you know, like
- 1:02:16this is their team or having season tickets to the Dodgers.
- 1:02:19That's how I felt like they had loyalty just to the meat and
- 1:02:23going out to watch it every single week and I was like, this
- 1:02:26is cool. This is really cool to see like
- 1:02:29this type of atmosphere around the meat and people people that
- 1:02:33we're living like they weren't By these alumni, from organ,
- 1:02:35didn't run on the team. They just went to Oregon like,
- 1:02:39probably rolled like damn, like there's a lot of hype Hayward
- 1:02:42Field. Let me go watch, then, probably
- 1:02:44just felt luck fell in love with it as well.
- 1:02:47Then the other thing I have to say to like about like
- 1:02:49Prefontaine classic and just a presentation and I like how it
- 1:02:52is like boom boom boom. It's like a short packaged meat
- 1:02:55and everything but the one thing I do wish that happens in track
- 1:02:59and field, I think there needs to be a little bit more of a gap
- 1:03:03between races. And like, we can still have like
- 1:03:06the field events going on. But a gap in between there where
- 1:03:10that definitely on the broadcast, we can build up
- 1:03:13what's gonna happen next. Because sometimes the things the
- 1:03:16next race happens and you don't really know all the storylines,
- 1:03:20they're happy in between. But if you're able to have like
- 1:03:24at least like five or six minutes in between and then on
- 1:03:27the field or something people are discussing like, oh, like
- 1:03:30this, this type of storyline who's gonna win this type of
- 1:03:33debate. Of what's going to happen next.
- 1:03:36I feel like it just will add an extra layer and bring on the
- 1:03:39something that we don't see bring on that extra, that extra
- 1:03:42spice, like in like the NFL and stuff like that to give people
- 1:03:46that give someone that you're behind and stuff like that.
- 1:03:48I just think it moves like a little bit too fast.
- 1:03:51I think if there's a little bit more of a gap, it would be
- 1:03:54better, but it would also extend to meet to like, so I don't
- 1:03:57know. I'm really glad you said that
- 1:03:59Josh, because I was a little Scared of this interview going
- 1:04:04so far. Because like, man, I really
- 1:04:06agree a lot with what Josh says, and I really agree with the
- 1:04:08dances. Like I'm 100% agreeance with
- 1:04:10them and now because you said that I get to say, yeah, no, no,
- 1:04:12I don't, I don't agree with that.
- 1:04:15Yes, you have to have a little bit of disagreements for life to
- 1:04:18happen. So I'm glad you said that Josh,
- 1:04:20because that's the worst idea in the whole world that I've ever
- 1:04:22heard. Yeah.
- 1:04:26Because when you guys did Trials of miles, you guys were doing
- 1:04:29some of the interviews and they put you in the little box in the
- 1:04:31corner. Honor to watch the next race.
- 1:04:33The next race was going on, but I could still hear and see your
- 1:04:37interview. I think I could be making that
- 1:04:38up, but but I believe that's what happened.
- 1:04:40And so I was like, oh I got to still hear and see the interview
- 1:04:43but I didn't miss a lap and I'm not necessarily in.
- 1:04:46I'm not a distance guys I don't want to see all these laps of
- 1:04:47the 10ks and stuff personally but it was able to have both at
- 1:04:51the same time but what I do agree with you Josh is how do we
- 1:04:55package and tell more of the story of what's going on and
- 1:04:58that I think is really lacking in track and field specifically
- 1:05:01on the college and downs. It is the team score side of it,
- 1:05:04you know? Right now we're using that
- 1:05:06Trials of Miles, the 110 meter hurdles goes off.
- 1:05:08And there's a winner and a second and third place outside
- 1:05:11of the time, which we get real hung up on track and field,
- 1:05:13right? If it doesn't set a world record
- 1:05:15or American record or whatnot, it's like well, that person
- 1:05:18sucked and it's like man that guy just friended me his
- 1:05:20personal best or whatever. It doesn't matter, they won.
- 1:05:23But we don't know what, how did that affect the meat?
- 1:05:27Not that we'd have no idea. There's a person ran.
- 1:05:29There's a time where person jumped, there's their distance.
- 1:05:32No clue how that affected organ or San Diego State or whoever
- 1:05:35else. Was at that meat that I think is
- 1:05:37where the story. And I think we've seen that with
- 1:05:40division one when they went, you know, a few years ago, they went
- 1:05:43women on like Thursday and Saturday.
- 1:05:45Yeah. And Men on Wednesday Friday.
- 1:05:48So they could focus just on the men's team title chances.
- 1:05:51And then the next day on the broadcast is just the women.
- 1:05:54I think that's helped bring people in now, to your point
- 1:05:56about rooting for Oregon, even though I didn't run for them or
- 1:05:59what not, and some people root for work and they didn't even go
- 1:06:01to school. Will there.
- 1:06:03Now I have a rooting interest. I see where organ is on the
- 1:06:05women's side compared to am and Florida and NC A&T Etc.
- 1:06:12Yeah, I think they did a really good job about that.
- 1:06:14The NCAA men on one day and the women.
- 1:06:16I think that's a really great. Great format.
- 1:06:19I was going to agree with you like the ncaa's is it's one of
- 1:06:23the best track meets of the entire year.
- 1:06:25Like they do the storylines. Well, you kind of can but with
- 1:06:29the store but I even think how they like advertise.
- 1:06:32The individuals is really good too, but I think that's a in
- 1:06:38stabilized is definitely one of the best track meets, but
- 1:06:40there's a lot of track Meats that like I watch and I'm like
- 1:06:44board. Like I think we do like the
- 1:06:46Olympic pretty well and like, these bigger meets but then,
- 1:06:49like some of the smaller ones. I don't really want to say these
- 1:06:52things. I don't have to like it, but I
- 1:06:55guess I just like recently. There was one that was really
- 1:06:58Heights and I was excited to watch it.
- 1:07:00And honestly, I was, I was bored.
- 1:07:02I was bored watching it and I still don't think we figured out
- 1:07:06like that formula to like because going to a track meet is
- 1:07:08dope. When you go to a track me up,
- 1:07:10refresh. Drag me is good.
- 1:07:11Like you're like, oh this is, this is cool.
- 1:07:14This is hype for the most part, I would say most times, but a
- 1:07:17lot of times watching it on TV, it doesn't the energy just
- 1:07:20doesn't translate translate, it doesn't feel like you're there.
- 1:07:24Whereas, if I'm watching, NBA playoff game and everyone's
- 1:07:26going crazy and the stands and stuff, like you don't even have
- 1:07:29to be a, you know, like, you don't have to be a basketball
- 1:07:33fan, and you just, you're like, oh, dang.
- 1:07:34Like this is like important. Like your, you can tell it's a
- 1:07:37big deal. Yeah, yes.
- 1:07:41But you know that NCAA tournament is the greatest
- 1:07:43example, right of like yeah people who don't care about
- 1:07:46basketball. I'm that guy I'm not a huge
- 1:07:47basketball fan but I pay attention to March Madness.
- 1:07:51I'd like to see when you 16 seed, you know, UMBC beats
- 1:07:54number one seed or the 12 seed over 8.
- 1:07:57There's, there's a story there, exactly right?
- 1:08:00You made me think about, you know, when we watch football and
- 1:08:03basketball, when a running back runs for 110 yards, but he's run
- 1:08:10for Native, for me, let's say, is PR as 180, right?
- 1:08:13When he runs 410. No one says, he had a bad game.
- 1:08:17He sucked. You know, he's running, he's run
- 1:08:19for a 180, but only got 110, so he sucked.
- 1:08:21That's what we do in track and field Shakira ya.
- 1:08:25Ya go. Secure your goes out and runs
- 1:08:271080 and we go. Yeah.
- 1:08:28But she's Run 10 6 or whatever PR is.
- 1:08:30It's like, man, not a good race for her.
- 1:08:32It's like, yeah, but she won. Like what?
- 1:08:34Yeah, it'll be doing here. It cannot be to your point about
- 1:08:38when you go to the meat or if you watch on TV and it's not
- 1:08:40really You know, enjoyable, we become in a lot of places a time
- 1:08:44trial Sport and it can't be that it can't be PR or Bust, it can't
- 1:08:50be. I'm sorry.
- 1:08:51Just we won't grow. Our sport will continue to be
- 1:08:53where we are today. I've been saying this to like I
- 1:08:57think I'm just I've come to the conclusion.
- 1:08:59I think it's because like we are PR sport because like not every
- 1:09:04athlete is getting appearance fees.
- 1:09:06They're not getting like TV money deal, TV money.
- 1:09:11Like they're not getting money based off how many people are in
- 1:09:13the stands. They're getting money off of
- 1:09:15metals and occurs. So great point.
- 1:09:19So they're now height to race somebody like, they don't, you
- 1:09:22know, and I think that I think that energy is shift because
- 1:09:26it's everything is just like, yo, what is your time?
- 1:09:29Did you win this metal? It's almost like in the NBA, how
- 1:09:31people sit out because they're like, people don't play every
- 1:09:33game now because it's like, you know, if I don't get things,
- 1:09:36y'all going to say that I'm not good.
- 1:09:38So it's like I think the whole business.
- 1:09:41It's it's like I'm going deep into it but the whole business
- 1:09:43model like has to be like changed somehow to be more like
- 1:09:48in favor of the athletes as well.
- 1:09:50Let's let's pivot a little bit because definitely this is not
- 1:09:53going to happen by the time you're listening to this on the
- 1:09:55podcast. You talk about hype and, you
- 1:09:59know, do I have something to run for even if I don't PR or metal?
- 1:10:03What do you think about this? I think it's Trayvon, right?
- 1:10:06Trayvon. And I actually he's not the one
- 1:10:09who start who started cheetah started.
- 1:10:11It. What are you say his name again?
- 1:10:15I'm sorry, Tyree kill all comers and I love Trayvon tile of this
- 1:10:22attitude of, like I got 10 K. Where you want to go?
- 1:10:24Let's do it. Now, this may be a little bit.
- 1:10:27I do. About this one necessarily but
- 1:10:28then Trayvon took it another step and said, hey, I'll take, I
- 1:10:31can't remember the exact names with basically was to female
- 1:10:33u.s. athletes, and I think Marvin is, he was the other
- 1:10:36male, Tiana, Daniels, and I'm like, whatever that thing was to
- 1:10:40carry. Was this your carrier?
- 1:10:41Yeah, yeah, it was Secure. You can
- 1:10:55bring the discussion of decay. When he ran at Mount Sac, a lot
- 1:11:00of people were like hate it. It's a, it's a makes track a
- 1:11:03clown show. I actually liked it because a it
- 1:11:06showed a really good athlete. Do you keep madcap amazing
- 1:11:09athlete and he got smoked and he actually really practiced like
- 1:11:13he really took it serious. And you my little not have been
- 1:11:16the right bro. And now with Trayvon is this the
- 1:11:20way track goes is this the way we should be doing it?
- 1:11:23Or is this just going to help with maybe the other things that
- 1:11:25we need to be doing, is making a Land on PR Sport and all that
- 1:11:28kind of stuff. I'm gonna go there and want to
- 1:11:31talk about, you want you to you to make.
- 1:11:34You want to talk about DK, Aaron, I'll let you get that.
- 1:11:39All right girl I got a big I got opinions on this.
- 1:11:42So first thing DK Metcalf I don't like that.
- 1:11:46I think that's dumb. Okay.
- 1:11:47And I think that's down because that because as you said like
- 1:11:53like we're turning into like this PR sport, right?
- 1:11:56Like this guy was celebrated for getting like last place you know
- 1:12:01people were still football players like oh well here and
- 1:12:03coddle fast whatever. Like oh he held his own.
- 1:12:06Oh, my go. It shows that he got smoke.
- 1:12:10Didn't show that crave on Good Life.
- 1:12:12See went to Mount Sac and came back to his home, home home town
- 1:12:15and won the race. No one knew about that, it did,
- 1:12:19I think it put all the tension on DK, Metcalf and not the
- 1:12:22people in the other lanes. And I also think about it.
- 1:12:25Good point because I wouldn't have had, I wouldn't have taken
- 1:12:28the bet. I didn't know who won that race,
- 1:12:30that's a real. That was a really good point.
- 1:12:32He's thinking about is like, it, was he bringing up here gone for
- 1:12:33as I go? He won.
- 1:12:35That's right. Exactly.
- 1:12:37And I'm like, yo, DK, you took He probably got paid to go there
- 1:12:40and stuff too. And it's like you took the lane
- 1:12:42from somebody that was trying to qualify for the Olympic trials.
- 1:12:45You all here playing around I ain't buying that because
- 1:12:47there's other beats this mystery person could have could have hit
- 1:12:50and and they ran prelim. So someone had their chance to
- 1:12:54beat him to get into the final and that race.
- 1:12:56So I'm not buying that part especially because we're talking
- 1:12:59back in the 10:3 range, so I'm sorry if mr. 1027 didn't get a
- 1:13:03chance to still not rely for the Olympic trials, I am with Navi.
- 1:13:11Circus, you know, it took off who should have gotten credit,
- 1:13:14Gillespie 100% should have got credit for winning a big meet
- 1:13:18100 meter dash, certainly. So I don't think that, I don't
- 1:13:21think that meat, like, May what more people watch the Olympics
- 1:13:25or its track, or I don't think it did anything for track
- 1:13:28athletes. But this other thing though, I
- 1:13:31like this better, I like that idea better like having like a
- 1:13:36male Bracy shekere and yeah. Downs versus some Aika football
- 1:13:41team. I think there's a way that you
- 1:13:43can incorporate like fun stuff like this, but I don't think you
- 1:13:46should do it at a serious serious me.
- 1:13:49Like maybe there's like an All-Star me at the end of the
- 1:13:52year or something, but I also like trayvon's attitude around
- 1:13:55it too. Because like this, that's an
- 1:13:57ESPN topic where you could be talking about subscription
- 1:14:00because she carry Richardson is the main reason if she does it,
- 1:14:03that's gonna like, you know, that's gonna, you know, a tithe
- 1:14:06turn any boats or whatever that's Going to turn heads.
- 1:14:09That's the topic. You could talk about on there
- 1:14:11and then it's going to be like, yo, you're going to want to
- 1:14:13watch her race. You're gonna watch her race
- 1:14:15Morgan. She's already already doing
- 1:14:17that. And I just feel like to like I'm
- 1:14:19tired. I am tired of these NFL players
- 1:14:21keep on saying like, oh, we gonna race going race.
- 1:14:24It's like, bro, just pull up like, dang Grace row.
- 1:14:27Hey, it's like, y'all not gonna y'all?
- 1:14:29There's talking to talking, I think, bro, Mel's just like,
- 1:14:31bro, pull up, like, here's my team, get anyone, I agree, Josh.
- 1:14:36That it ain't gonna happen. First of all, my man ray.
- 1:14:38Trying to make it happen. He's got you know Ray Edwards.
- 1:14:41Yeah, yeah, yeah, get out Ray. I know re listening but I love
- 1:14:44him to death. Good friend of mine, he's
- 1:14:46running he's doing a meet in Atlanta on May 7 so he's trying
- 1:14:48to get that four by one hooked up, right?
- 1:14:50But here's the other reason why it's not going to happen.
- 1:14:52Josh, the money ain't nothing for the NFL guys.
- 1:14:57So you know, attract guy, 60 grand for a track guy.
- 1:14:59I don't care at this point unless you know, former Usain
- 1:15:02Bolt 60k for any of our tribe people is like yeah, where do
- 1:15:06you want me to be? I'm racing for it, right?
- 1:15:08Yeah. That guys like look, man, I ride
- 1:15:09the bench and I make two Mill. Let's 60k.
- 1:15:13That's, I got that on my wrist, you know, so I'm gonna happen
- 1:15:17for that alone. That is just like there's no
- 1:15:18motivation for the for the NFL guy.
- 1:15:21There's motivation for the track people.
- 1:15:22I don't think there's motivation for the NFL, guys.
- 1:15:25I think it would be really cool race though especially the four
- 1:15:28by one. And if we can tie this together
- 1:15:30with grand Holloway arrived, Benjamin running that 200 meter
- 1:15:34hurdle race, and the same meat. I think it could be something
- 1:15:37that we can definitely watch and if we can get people like
- 1:15:40Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco.
- 1:15:42Go on the other side and maybe like a Michael Parsons,
- 1:15:45especially like t 0, and 0 with them entire, you kill as well
- 1:15:48because like, T ohen and Ochocinco, like they going to
- 1:15:51talk to. So like getting those
- 1:15:54personalities, and then have them get shut up by track
- 1:15:58athletes. And my, my hope is that like
- 1:16:00somebody's gonna run them down. That Trayvon bromell is going to
- 1:16:03run them down, or Marvin race is going to run them down.
- 1:16:05And just prove that like On that 4x1.
- 1:16:18Raise the two females in the two males versus the for male and a
- 1:16:21Fellers that, you know, of course, it depends on who they
- 1:16:24get from the NFL. But the the two people running
- 1:16:26the legs against the, women aren't going to lose the NFL
- 1:16:29ours aren't okay. So it really comes down to the
- 1:16:33two male legs and the handoffs. Yeah.
- 1:16:37And we've all seen enough for by ones.
- 1:16:39And this isn't a pic on Team. USA, I ain't even going there.
- 1:16:42I'm just um, Head coughs. Like do you really want to like
- 1:16:44get we lose a lot of, a lot of moxie and track and field if
- 1:16:49these in the fillers beat us because we felt true fumbled the
- 1:16:52Baton and we should if we can't get the Baton around but the NFL
- 1:16:56players can like, come on, that's bad.
- 1:16:59They just gotta practice. They just gotta practice man and
- 1:17:02I feel like it's going to be especially hard because like I
- 1:17:06feel like no matter what, like Trayvon bromell is going to run
- 1:17:09up on. She carry, no matter how hard
- 1:17:11she carried gets out like If that's the handoff like he's
- 1:17:13going to run up on her. It's gonna be awkward hand off
- 1:17:16but our RTO and shout out to Chad Johnson, really gonna get
- 1:17:20Dad, get of a handoff off. Like they probably be stumbling
- 1:17:22bumbling. They're gonna be like a do the
- 1:17:24four by four by four. Yes, they're not going.
- 1:17:26Like they're not going like that.
- 1:17:28I don't think that they're gonna do that.
- 1:17:29I think even worse. I think the outgoing Runner
- 1:17:31won't go out so they'll be oh yeah sitting there and so the
- 1:17:35run is going to run up on them. It'll be you know it'll be a
- 1:17:37whole whole thing. All right, I'm having so much
- 1:17:39fun. I got another subject.
- 1:17:40I want to bring up specifically on the four by one pause.
- 1:17:42That you mentioned the Rob judgment and Grant Holloway is
- 1:17:48that not making track and field, the circus we're taking two guys
- 1:17:52out of their main events to put them together.
- 1:17:56I know it's not an NFL player but that's not traditional
- 1:17:58track. Is that not bringing circus or
- 1:18:00is that that's okay because we're not bringing in another
- 1:18:02sport person. I think that's that's
- 1:18:05competition, that's taking the pr is out of it.
- 1:18:08That's being competitive and creative and putting Ali, the
- 1:18:13two grand hallway doesn't have the American record in the 110
- 1:18:16hurdles yet, but putting the to have it by the time this
- 1:18:20Publishers and it's not even outdoor season.
- 1:18:21Yeah. So like that's putting the two
- 1:18:26best like that's putting a heavyweight fight together like
- 1:18:29a promoter bringing that together and like, see what
- 1:18:33could happen and what was it? Is it I always forget the names
- 1:18:37but what was the pay-per-view meet back in the day, was it
- 1:18:40Michael Johnson and was that Maurice Greene?
- 1:18:42You're so young, it can know it was, it was go ahead.
- 1:18:46Go ahead. It was Maurice.
- 1:18:47Greene and Michael Johnson. Yes.
- 1:18:50Okay. Okay, it hurts me.
- 1:18:51What about that 150 though? Or that to that Mike Donovan and
- 1:18:56Michael that's what it. Yeah I'm with you.
- 1:18:58Yeah that's what it was. That that was iconic for my age
- 1:19:01group. Yeah yeah I'm with you I didn't
- 1:19:04think about that and it's kind of the same comparison.
- 1:19:07Yeah. Yeah, most definitely I think
- 1:19:09that will bring even more attention to these characters in
- 1:19:13a sense, larger-than-life characters.
- 1:19:15Now, when and if that's definitely, I fly, even if it's
- 1:19:18aired on YouTube, like ain't get playtime and it can get
- 1:19:21somewhere. Like, people are going to see
- 1:19:23that this is happening, but that just brings even more attention
- 1:19:26around Grand Hall away and Rye Benjamin when it becomes 2024.
- 1:19:31Because, you know, they're going to be talking about when they're
- 1:19:33on the start line. Oh, they also did this Amazing
- 1:19:36Race where he He competed against the fastest 400-meter
- 1:19:39hurdles are in the world and so it's all like, I think that
- 1:19:43brings extra elements in them. What are you talking to the very
- 1:19:46people? You don't need to be marketing
- 1:19:47to and that's current track fans.
- 1:19:49We don't need to be Market. Do we need to get those other
- 1:19:52people who aren't coming to meets?
- 1:19:55I think that I think I meet like that can get because like the
- 1:19:58DK. Make everything I go back to
- 1:19:59that. Like, I think that got maybe
- 1:20:02some, like, who did that get to watch?
- 1:20:04Like, maybe some football people like I do and also this, I said,
- 1:20:07when I came out, I was like, I 100% bet you like most of the
- 1:20:11people just watch it on ESPN him.
- 1:20:14Everyone on ESPN was watching a prelim of this dude getting
- 1:20:18last. There was like, yeah, this is so
- 1:20:19good for our sport. Yeah, yeah, that's us.
- 1:20:22Like, bro, that isn't do anything.
- 1:20:24Like we have a think of how do we activate that person that ran
- 1:20:27in high school? You know, he has like some
- 1:20:30knowledge of it. I was 100% wrong on this.
- 1:20:32I didn't necessarily think that that race itself that, you know,
- 1:20:36when it was aired On TV was the big thing.
- 1:20:39I thought I would put money on this that during NFL season.
- 1:20:42Anytime DK met cap did something.
- 1:20:45They would have said and look what he did this past summer, he
- 1:20:47wouldn't get smoked at the, you know, this track meet or
- 1:20:49whatever. And I don't think that I don't
- 1:20:50watch NFL but I don't remember seeing in the twitterverse no
- 1:20:53one said like look, man. They brought up how he gets
- 1:20:55smoked, it feels like, yeah, whatever, track and field.
- 1:20:58We're just gonna stay focused on what we're doing on the field.
- 1:21:01Yeah, most definitely but I think like Joshua said, like
- 1:21:05adding in like the competition and hype.
- 1:21:08And I think if you do like a meat like that, that's when you
- 1:21:10can add in like Tyree kill versus you saying bowl or
- 1:21:14something, or maybe like you have a meet where we here we
- 1:21:18have like regular hundred races but then we have like, you know,
- 1:21:21a fun celebrity, huh injury? And we have like t0 and Chad,
- 1:21:24they're racing each other, but we know they not on the level of
- 1:21:27our athletes at all. So that Back to those old shows,
- 1:21:31the world's greatest athlete type shows where they would take
- 1:21:35like the, you know, top football player, a top actor, a top
- 1:21:38baseball player and they would do like these different, you
- 1:21:40know, Sprints. And then also, you know tire
- 1:21:43swings, I was kind of, you know, it was, it was kind of a cool
- 1:21:45little athletic All-Stars, the TV show that they had, that was
- 1:21:49really popular back in the day I Pros vs Jose that was I think it
- 1:21:53was on Spike. I think I was on Spike back in
- 1:21:55the day. I used to watch that.
- 1:21:57Didn't someone die from that? Then I run it D be like kill
- 1:22:00somebody. D.
- 1:22:01I may be an exaggeration but it was it was one more question and
- 1:22:07then we'll start wrapping up. I'm having such a ball.
- 1:22:09Thank you guys so much for. This is really just a personal
- 1:22:11for me. I'm just having a good time and
- 1:22:13thank you so much for everything.
- 1:22:14So here's my other thought, okay?
- 1:22:16Because you guys are into it man.
- 1:22:17So I want to know. I have all these ideas that I
- 1:22:19don't always put on Twitter. I know people think I put
- 1:22:21everything on Twitter but there's some that I keep back.
- 1:22:23All right, so we're talking about four by one.
- 1:22:26What if because the big problem with four by one is the top
- 1:22:29three plus The fourth person is in, you know, maybe one or two
- 1:22:33other people write or in this group for the Relay, for the
- 1:22:36Olympics or the world Champs. Right?
- 1:22:38And then it's hard to practice and of course there's all the
- 1:22:40politics, you know, the anchors and whatnot and blah, blah blah,
- 1:22:43right? So people have always said that
- 1:22:46we should be able to take any for Americans and when the four
- 1:22:48by one. So what if we took place has
- 1:22:51five, six, seven and eight, They didn't make the team
- 1:22:55conceivably. So let's say they, let's say
- 1:22:56there's no 200 M and things like that, right?
- 1:22:59We take those four people. And now, for the time, between
- 1:23:02the trials in the Olympics and or the world Champs, those four
- 1:23:05people are our 4 by 1 and so they're doing nothing but
- 1:23:08practicing for by one. They don't worry about Run 100
- 1:23:10meter Heats or 200 or Heats etcetera.
- 1:23:12They are practicing and they're kind of lucky to be on the team
- 1:23:16but they are four by one team. So, they would go through the
- 1:23:21final. Yeah, those number five, six,
- 1:23:25seven and eight. That's our team.
- 1:23:26That's who we are practicing fix.
- 1:23:28Ya in their practice. Yeah.
- 1:23:29Because they don't have to worry about the hundred meter open and
- 1:23:31all this other stuff, they just focus on the 401.
- 1:23:33Your silence tells me that was the dumbest idea in the world is
- 1:23:36what I'm hearing. I'm just like, someone's gonna
- 1:23:38be of say, you messing up somebody's wedding man.
- 1:23:41And like I need this metal. No, no.
- 1:23:43I still have a shot at the end of a metal.
- 1:23:47They want they're going to want to be on that, they're going to
- 1:23:50want to metals like they're going to want all of it.
- 1:23:54I'm sorry. Always get what we want, what is
- 1:23:59it? It's like if that were to, if
- 1:24:01that was an initiative that happened though, like I could
- 1:24:04under ask the one Christian Coleman and and these people on
- 1:24:08the, I want, I trust them being on, like you got this tic last
- 1:24:11leg like you going to get it there but then it's all like I
- 1:24:15do understand because definitely for the you It's over.
- 1:24:18I don't know, I feel like ever since I've been alive, it's
- 1:24:22always been. Are we going to make this stick
- 1:24:24around all the way especially on the men's side?
- 1:24:27So if that was implemented, that would make sense and it would be
- 1:24:31something different but it's on. Like when we can get the stick
- 1:24:33around its dominant 2019. Like that was, that was
- 1:24:38beautiful to watch. Like really, is it really that
- 1:24:42bad? Is it really that bad that we
- 1:24:44gotta get five, six, seven, and eight like we can Can't trust.
- 1:24:48Maybe first of all, it's not it shouldn't be that bad go.
- 1:24:51Look at the results. First of all.
- 1:24:52So yes, in general second of all, we'd still win possibly
- 1:25:01possibly, go look, go back in the trials, I'm going to do this
- 1:25:04on Twitter. Now, go back in the child who
- 1:25:06got five, six, seven, I guarantee their studies.
- 1:25:08They made our finals, it ain't no joke to make our finals in
- 1:25:11the hundred. And I just is everything that
- 1:25:15chance to get two metals though. To like like, it's like, yo, I'm
- 1:25:18the best in the world. If I want to be on the floor, by
- 1:25:20one I should be on E. I want to get two metals.
- 1:25:23And unfortunately, in the last several Olympics, no one's had
- 1:25:26that he messing because we haven't gotten the sticker on
- 1:25:29and this one was the worst one, right.
- 1:25:30Because we actually got to stick around and we didn't make it but
- 1:25:34I have something that could also help the problem as well.
- 1:25:38I think, I US championships we should have a 4 by 1 race.
- 1:25:43And I'm not saying putting like the All-Star team together but
- 1:25:46everyone coming with their different Sprint groups.
- 1:25:49Or if you don't want to be a part of it, you don't got to be
- 1:25:50a part of it. But you just like practicing for
- 1:25:53by one kind of just at least even just two weeks out before
- 1:25:57USA's and kind of continuing that.
- 1:26:00And then seeing how people pass around the stick and then you
- 1:26:03can get an extra bonus for that person.
- 1:26:05That team that wins, I'll get a bonus for winning, the four by
- 1:26:07one at the end of the meat. I think that as more excitement
- 1:26:11to USA's in a way because Like, oh, we get to see a relay and
- 1:26:14it's all like, we're practicing for by one all throughout the
- 1:26:17year. Not just three weeks before the
- 1:26:19World Championships or the week of the Olympics.
- 1:26:23Trayvon's group wins the four by one at the Olympic trials, but
- 1:26:26Marvin Bracy wins the hundred meter open in.
- 1:26:28Marvin says, that's not fair. I wanted to win my two metals.
- 1:26:32I think you have to, I think if you requirements like, hey, you
- 1:26:36have to participate in a 4 by 1. If you want to be on the floor
- 1:26:38by like at least have ran a real AI USA's if you're going to be
- 1:26:43on the team at the Olympics. I think that's kind of I think
- 1:26:46that's fair here and then that for by one team that wins at
- 1:26:49USA's like there if you don't make it in like the hundred or
- 1:26:53whatever you're in the real, a pool and in the top three are in
- 1:26:55the real, a pool. And that's the coach's, just
- 1:26:58pick and choose who had the best hand offs?
- 1:27:02For sure guys. We ain't solving this period,
- 1:27:06not even today, State solve it. All right, let's wrap it up
- 1:27:08here, guys. Me and I'll talk to you guys for
- 1:27:10hours, man. What I really want to know is
- 1:27:13you know, I really enjoy your content, what you do.
- 1:27:16I love your thought processes, I love the spelling game, things
- 1:27:20like that. I just love being able to see
- 1:27:21the personalities that they athletes.
- 1:27:23Although I'm very much focused on the coaches, I would wish you
- 1:27:25guys would do more coaching stuff.
- 1:27:26But what's the future? Where we going with this?
- 1:27:29What do you? What do you hope running report?
- 1:27:32It to Black to black runners podcast?
- 1:27:34What are we hoping this goes into Josh, you kind of mentioned
- 1:27:37you Josh is the future guy isn't here because he kept talking
- 1:27:40about the future is resume being on ESPN, but what are we trying
- 1:27:43to do here with this? With what your you guys are
- 1:27:46creating your creativity, I wouldn't say I'm the future guy,
- 1:27:49but Aaron has like a whole bunch ideas, what he wants to do, but
- 1:27:53I'll stick. I'll stick to the running report
- 1:27:55side and then I'll let Aaron go off to.
- 1:27:57I think, really for grunting report, especially in 2022, we
- 1:28:01went to kind of This umbrella of that is the Run report that kind
- 1:28:05of just spits out this news media that we do that's for to
- 1:28:09culture and viticulture and always through that and do that
- 1:28:13through video. So trying to bring that what you
- 1:28:17see on SportsCenter on Fox Sports on NFL Network, and MLB
- 1:28:21Network to try and bring that to running through Instagram and
- 1:28:25YouTube through different types of types of shows.
- 1:28:27So actually in March, we're going to start doing our running
- 1:28:30reports show more like week. Ali.
- 1:28:32And then we're going to do some other shows to like focusing on
- 1:28:36high school track and field as well.
- 1:28:39And so that's definitely coming very soon that just try and
- 1:28:42bring that more like debate style and relax and just
- 1:28:45building up the storylines weekly and monthly throughout
- 1:28:49leading up to the world championships and really for
- 1:28:51running report trying to build build just trying to build a
- 1:28:56video platform to where that you can go on YouTube and kind of
- 1:29:00just get that same argument that In about Steven, A going off on
- 1:29:04Kyrie Irving, but instead will be me and Aaron going off on
- 1:29:07Christian Coleman and that will be, that will be the topic and
- 1:29:11be able to get that type of fixed cause I feel like that
- 1:29:14really was able to connect to our uncle's and away and like
- 1:29:18our uncle's our ran track. And what about one of my uncle's
- 1:29:20he actually still has a 4 by1 record at Cal State Northridge
- 1:29:24and so I think for them to see us and be connected back into
- 1:29:29like track and field. If that's my barometer innocence
- 1:29:32like if they're able to like get it and want to see like when
- 1:29:36milrose and Prefontaine and New Balance and or Grand Prix comes
- 1:29:39back on like they're tuning in and recording the go watch.
- 1:29:42I'm alright we're doing something right for me.
- 1:29:47I want I want running reports to be like ultimately embedded into
- 1:29:52the culture of like that Canfield but like just running
- 1:29:56as well. I want us to be like cuz running
- 1:29:59report will become Mike umbrella of to buy Grinders and other
- 1:30:03shows that were working on. But I wanted to be because I see
- 1:30:06two black, I see two black renders the podcast like as
- 1:30:09we're just two black runners and we're not limited to just we're
- 1:30:13just to buy Grinders and we can speak to anyone.
- 1:30:15And I ultimately I like, if that's someone from a coach, if
- 1:30:19that's someone like designing shoes, if that's athlete.
- 1:30:23If we're telling you about opportunities in the track and
- 1:30:26field space, I see, like, I don't know if you ever watched
- 1:30:29like The Breakfast Club but their whole show is seeing
- 1:30:30around music. Make sure they bring on policy.
- 1:30:33I'm so old, I was wrong breakfast, not the movie but I
- 1:30:36do know Breakfast Club. What's his name?
- 1:30:39Charlamagne, hi Charlamagne. Yeah of course yeah this show is
- 1:30:42show it came from music, it's a radio show but you see them
- 1:30:45interviewing Camilla Herrick Camilla Harris.
- 1:30:47You see them interviewing Little Wayne.
- 1:30:49But and you you'll see them even interviewing like religious
- 1:30:52leaders like any type of person that interview but it's all
- 1:30:55centered around music and also like Black Culture as well.
- 1:30:59And I see that within the two black runners, but I want the
- 1:31:02writing reports become embedded within just deeper than running
- 1:31:07track and field just like running culture, but at the end
- 1:31:10of the day, our core is always going to be tracking field into
- 1:31:13like do it for and by the culture to get prove, it make it
- 1:31:17more mainstream. And I would say our goal isn't
- 1:31:20technically like to be big like Aaron and be on the podcast.
- 1:31:24You like we want to be the best podcast in the world and like he
- 1:31:27believes that we are and like some of that definitely comes
- 1:31:29with it but I think I think we really just want to have an
- 1:31:33impact on running and so like even if two black runners and
- 1:31:37run report isn't the biggest thing ever?
- 1:31:39Like, I think what we do is different and I think a lot of
- 1:31:42people can take from it. So if they take from us and like
- 1:31:45run with it, like I would be, I'll be Satisfied, I'll be
- 1:31:49Satisfied and then hopefully if like we fall off, they'll pick
- 1:31:53me up and be all like, well, you can work for us.
- 1:31:55I'm like, yeah, I know I can't, I'll talk to you this now.
- 1:31:57Just saying, but I'm just saying, like, I think, I think I
- 1:32:01want to leave it. In a mark on the sport for that,
- 1:32:04people are starting to implement what we're doing.
- 1:32:07Because I think that I don't I feel like that is some of the
- 1:32:10new stuff that's in it and bringing that sort of new style
- 1:32:13and stuff like that. And that's the only way track
- 1:32:16and field. It's gonna get mainstream there,
- 1:32:18has to be a change. There has to be a change that
- 1:32:21happens. That's traumatic.
- 1:32:22And so, once though, dramatic change start happy, and I feel
- 1:32:26like they slowly are through all different types of spaces like
- 1:32:30that type of impacted. What really?
- 1:32:32Hours to us, not really getting those big numbers really down
- 1:32:35the line and being the best ever.
- 1:32:37Which would be nice though. And but you know that impact,
- 1:32:40that's that's the main point. Well, I can tell you doing it on
- 1:32:44a daily basis. It's hard to step back and see
- 1:32:47it. You guys are you already have?
- 1:32:49And are making an impact. I mean, the very fact that a guy
- 1:32:52like me, like glommed onto you. Like when I first saw your
- 1:32:55interview style at trials and Miles, like that's not a mattock
- 1:32:58impact is like oh this this different.
- 1:33:00And I like this better than what I've seen.
- 1:33:02You know, in the past. So first of all you guys have an
- 1:33:05are making an impact and as far as the other goals, the bigger
- 1:33:09impact and change and you even, I'm going to use the word
- 1:33:12copycat having people copycat off of what you guys do.
- 1:33:15Whether it's ESPN takes this style, Etc.
- 1:33:17That's all good, right? Because that's kind of how you.
- 1:33:20And by the way, me everybody, that we started, right?
- 1:33:22You started seeing Steven Naismith?
- 1:33:23And yeah, there's other guys. It's like, well, wait a minute,
- 1:33:25I can do that over here in this. Exactly, so I love that.
- 1:33:28And I think if anybody can do it, you guys.
- 1:33:30Can I really We do man. I think, you know, your
- 1:33:33intelligence, your passion, it comes through in every single
- 1:33:38piece of content that you put out, whether it's interviewing a
- 1:33:42Russell Dinkins, love him to death.
- 1:33:43He was just on the podcast last week, the video, the interviews.
- 1:33:48I mean, it's a wide. It's a lot of different skill
- 1:33:50sets inside of the media that you're working on my mama say
- 1:33:54Council. And that seems like, you know,
- 1:33:56I'm here, don't take it that way is, but the biggest advice or
- 1:34:01counsel I You guys is patience. Meaning there are plenty of
- 1:34:06people and you've seen this that are overnight Sensations because
- 1:34:10they put in the work for 10 years, you know, there is no
- 1:34:13overnight sensation but you're going to have that hit in some
- 1:34:16point whether its next month, next year, 10 years from now,
- 1:34:19you guys are going to be big time.
- 1:34:21People are going to be like oh yeah you know, why I do what I
- 1:34:23do because what the pots brothers did or we're on this
- 1:34:26show because of what we interviewed this one cat or
- 1:34:30whatever, you know saying like it.
- 1:34:32It's gonna hit for you guys because you have the talent in
- 1:34:34the intelligence and the passion for it man.
- 1:34:36So I'm just so happy ecstatic, for what you guys are doing.
- 1:34:39I'm glad I'm kind of on the ground floor, man, because in 10
- 1:34:41years, I'll be able to say. Yeah, I knew those guys win, you
- 1:34:43know. So I'm just just want to bless
- 1:34:45you guys, man. Thank you for what you're doing
- 1:34:47for our Sport. And I told you earlier in this
- 1:34:49podcast and I think we need more media in our sport, whether it's
- 1:34:52the local YouTube live show or local, you know, small podcast
- 1:34:57or big. It doesn't matter to me, I think
