- 0:00Speaker 1: So let's go on to Alabama and Tennessee of all
- 0:05Speaker 1: the sec games. Well, no, I guess Georgia was in
- 0:07Speaker 1: this category too, but man, I try to be a
- 0:10Speaker 1: Homer for Tennessee and I just didn't again, like BYU.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I just didn't have it in me to pick them.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And we are presented by prize picks before I go
- 0:19Speaker 1: too far. But what the heck can you say about
- 0:22Speaker 1: Tennessee's defense? Because they just, I mean, their offense didn't
- 0:27Speaker 1: do enough with the ball at times. Settling for field goals,
- 0:30Speaker 1: you kind of thought, like, you know, that's going to
- 0:32Speaker 1: come back to bite them eventually. And their defense just said, nope,
- 0:35Speaker 1: it's not. We're just going to keep shutting Alabama down
- 0:37Speaker 1: the entire day. Thank you for coming. Give me my cigar.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Cole Thompson from the SEC. Go ahead.
- 0:46Speaker 2: The greatest hire of the offseason, I think, was Derek Owings,
- 0:49Speaker 2: the strength and conditioning coach from Indiana. That team is
- 0:52Speaker 2: so physically prepared. That team is so physically stout. That
- 0:55Speaker 2: team does not flinch when they go up against anybody.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And it really starts on the defensive side. Because the
- 1:00Speaker 2: number two hire of the offseason in the SEC, I
- 1:03Speaker 2: believe right now, is Jim Knowles. And I don't know
- 1:06Speaker 2: what it is. Because of Tom, you've told us this.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I've talked to people around Oklahoma State. I've talked to
- 1:12Speaker 2: people at Ohio State. The intricacies of learning the ins
- 1:16Speaker 2: and outs of a Jim Knowles defense takes two years
- 1:18Speaker 2: to master. They have put that in hyperdrive, and it
- 1:21Speaker 2: looks like the reason why Tennessee is.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Right back in the college football playoff conversation.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'm not saying that that offensive performance is good enough
- 1:27Speaker 2: to win you every single football game, but that defensive
- 1:30Speaker 2: performance is. If your offense can get just enough going
- 1:33Speaker 2: the way that you did in the second half, that
- 1:36Speaker 2: to me is what is going to make them a
- 1:38Speaker 2: viable threat to go on a run and stay undefeated
- 1:41Speaker 2: for the rest of the year. Bottom line, they are
- 1:43Speaker 2: a Hail Mary throw away from being undefeated in a
- 1:45Speaker 2: top five team in college football right now. That is
- 1:48Speaker 2: what Tennessee is doing with a quarterback room that has
- 1:52Speaker 2: major questions, but you knew that going into the year,
- 1:55Speaker 2: but a game plan that has allowed you to be
- 1:57Speaker 2: able to play within the structure and not make many mistakes.
- 2:02Speaker 2: The more impressive team. showed on up and won the
- 2:05Speaker 2: football game yesterday. There is no doubt about it. You
- 2:07Speaker 2: cannot sit here and tell me, well, Alabama, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 2: because of how they played against Georgia. Guys, if you
- 2:13Speaker 2: do not play A-level football against even the second-level tier
- 2:17Speaker 2: teams in the SEC, you will get your ass handed
- 2:19Speaker 2: to you. Alabama played D-level football, and it's because Tennessee
- 2:22Speaker 2: made them play D-level football. Like, there were times where
- 2:24Speaker 2: you shoot yourself in the foot. And there are times
- 2:26Speaker 2: that you say, well, if only we did this differently. No,
- 2:28Speaker 2: there was nothing that Alabama could have done differently because
- 2:30Speaker 2: Tennessee was shutting them down from the very jump. They
- 2:33Speaker 2: made a young quarterback like Keelan Russell look like a
- 2:36Speaker 2: young quarterback playing.
- 2:37Speaker 3: In that atmosphere.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Xavier Gilliam, my freaking God, what a monster. Weathersby coming
- 2:45Speaker 2: off the edge. Have yourself a bleeping day. Amari Campbell,
- 2:49Speaker 2: Jeremiah T. Lander with that big fourth down stop. Every
- 2:53Speaker 2: single counterpunch that Alabama tried to throw your way, Jim
- 2:56Speaker 2: Knowles socked them in the teeth and knocked them out.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I mean, it was bottom line villainy of how low
- 3:03Speaker 2: a play you were seeing from Jim Knowles.
- 3:05Speaker 3: It was a master class ass whooping. Bottom line. And
- 3:07Speaker 3: I can say this as an Alabama fan or somebody
- 3:10Speaker 3: that grew up.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Watching as it has ties to the program make no
- 3:14Speaker 2: mistake about it smoke them if you got them because
- 3:16Speaker 2: you gave alabama the wake-up call that i think was
- 3:19Speaker 2: necessary about making sure that you play a plus level
- 3:23Speaker 2: week in and week out because even when you look
- 3:26Speaker 2: at how at times the offense of tennessee stalled they
- 3:29Speaker 2: made fewer mistakes you had the one interception by george
- 3:32Speaker 2: mcintyre that led to a touchdown that led to a
- 3:34Speaker 2: touchdown opportunity and you had the muff punt And those
- 3:38Speaker 2: were the two mistakes. Alabama constantly made mistakes. Alabama had
- 3:41Speaker 2: two really bad interceptions. Alabama had the big fumble on
- 3:44Speaker 2: fourth down. Alabama got stuffed at the goal line. And
- 3:46Speaker 2: then I loved the game plan of Josh Heupel in
- 3:50Speaker 2: the second half where he realized George McIntyre is not.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Good enough in this position to win us the football game.
- 3:57Speaker 2: But our offense still is good enough to win us
- 3:59Speaker 2: the football game because we have Deshaun Bishop.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And you know what we're going to do?
- 4:04Speaker 2: We're going to make a statement in the fourth quarter
- 4:07Speaker 2: and tire down Alabama's defense, and just run it with 18,
- 4:11Speaker 2: and dare them to make us throw it.
- 4:13Speaker 3: And then when they do, because they're playing off-ball, and Kane.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Womack's not making any adjustments, but Dijon Lee on the outside,
- 4:20Speaker 2: bottom line, we're going to go ahead and win those
- 4:22Speaker 2: battles as well. I loved the execution and the game
- 4:25Speaker 2: plan of Tennessee yesterday. I thought that they came with
- 4:27Speaker 2: an identity. They knew what they wanted to do. They
- 4:30Speaker 2: took their advantages. They didn't take their foot off of
- 4:32Speaker 2: the brakes. I mean, off the gas pedal. They went
- 4:35Speaker 2: for the jugular in the fourth quarter to leave no
- 4:38Speaker 2: shredded doubt.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And that's why you could smoke them.
- 4:39Speaker 2: That's why, honestly, TJ, Tom, if they want to start
- 4:43Speaker 2: smoking them at the eight-minute mark of the fourth quarter,
- 4:45Speaker 2: they could have.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Because Alabama was not winning that football game the way
- 4:48Speaker 3: they came on out.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip of the Power
- 4:52Speaker 1: 2 here on the College Football Addiction Network. But first,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I want to tell you about our friends over at PrizePix.

- 5:08Speaker 4: Lamb.
- 5:08Speaker 1: We took the more on his touchdowns. We took the
- 5:10Speaker 1: more on Jordan Love. We took the more on Dak
- 5:13Speaker 1: Prescott's passing yards. Expect a lot of points in that
- 5:16Speaker 1: Dallas versus Green Bay game. You can get on the
- 5:19Speaker 1: price picks app as well. They've got it for college football.

- 5:37Speaker 1: There's a ton on there. from Champions League soccer to
- 5:40Speaker 1: the NBA starting back up, NHL's going, MLB postseason, shout
- 5:44Speaker 1: out my Rays, and then, of course, college football, the
- 5:47Speaker 1: most important thing that happens in this country. We appreciate
- 5:50Speaker 1: PrizePix for their support. Now back to the clip.
- 5:53Speaker 2: There are a lot of things that Tennessee is going
- 5:55Speaker 2: to have to do if they want to go on
- 5:56Speaker 2: a run towards the playoff. There are things that they're
- 5:58Speaker 2: going to have to fundamentally change with this offense that
- 6:01Speaker 2: will not show on up. But you look at that
- 6:03Speaker 2: schedule now. It is very appeasing to say if your
- 6:07Speaker 2: defense can play that way the rest of the year,
- 6:09Speaker 2: you are very much in the hunt for a college
- 6:11Speaker 2: football player. Credit to Jim Knowles, credit to Derek Owings,
- 6:15Speaker 2: credit to Josh Heupel for handling Kalen DeBoer again, handling
- 6:19Speaker 2: Alabama again. And credit to Neyland Stadium for, I think,
- 6:24Speaker 2: making a declarative statement yesterday that whenever you have a
- 6:29Speaker 2: top 10 matchup, You have now surpassed that Valley, in
- 6:32Speaker 2: my opinion, as the most intimidating place to play because
- 6:35Speaker 2: of how many times were there delay of games because
- 6:37Speaker 2: not even Kaitlin DeBoer could run down the field in
- 6:40Speaker 2: time to call a timeout.
- 6:41Speaker 3: They couldn't hear themselves. What a wonderful.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Game plan for Tennessee in the third Saturday in October.
- 6:49Speaker 2: A rivalry that, when I remember being in college, was
- 6:52Speaker 2: a one-sided affair. It has gone back to being a
- 6:55Speaker 2: very balanced approach on both sides. And I love the
- 6:57Speaker 2: comment about how Tennessee, Josh Epple said, players kind of
- 7:01Speaker 2: expect it now when we play here against Alabama.
- 7:03Speaker 3: They expect us to win. And honestly, why shouldn't you?
- 7:06Speaker 3: You've done it three times in a row.
- 7:08Speaker 1: This was.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Cole mentioned the execution of the offense. I thought about
- 7:13Speaker 1: John McKay, who used to coach the Bucs, when once
- 7:15Speaker 1: asked about the execution of his team's offense, and he said,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I'm in favor of it. And that's what I thought
- 7:20Speaker 1: of on the Alabama side was, you know, if you'd
- 7:23Speaker 1: asked DeBoer about the execution of his offense, maybe he
- 7:26Speaker 1: would have said, I'm in favor of it, like Coach McKay.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Not that he would joke like that after that loss. But, yeah,
- 7:35Speaker 1: for Alabama, I mean, again, all the positive thoughts toward Tennessee.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You know, you went out and earned it. You probably
- 7:42Speaker 1: have a Mulligan, you know, sitting here at the back
- 7:44Speaker 1: half of this schedule. You've got South Carolina this weekend.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I'll tell you, that is a game. You can't think
- 7:52Speaker 1: about Tennessee, A & M, or LSU yet because I
- 7:55Speaker 1: don't know if you guys have ever noticed this, but
- 7:58Speaker 1: it's happened every single weekend this season. Teams that win
- 8:01Speaker 1: a big game the week before lose next week. Like,
- 8:05Speaker 1: BYU comes to my backyard. They come to USCF, and
- 8:07Speaker 1: they're way better than UCF. but that dopamine dump after
- 8:12Speaker 1: a big win, it is very real. And so Tennessee
- 8:15Speaker 1: and South Carolina is a game you have to watch like,
- 8:18Speaker 1: because it's going to be uncomfortable. And there, if, if
- 8:22Speaker 1: teams can shut down that run and put it on McIntyre,
- 8:25Speaker 1: it's going to be tough, but defense travels. So we'll see,
- 8:27Speaker 1: but South Carolina, Vandy, a and M games that they
- 8:32Speaker 1: should win. If you split with kid, if you win
- 8:35Speaker 1: those three and you split with Kentucky and LSU, you're
- 8:39Speaker 1: this is a playoff team and the good news for Tennessee,
- 8:42Speaker 1: you get both those at home. Now I'm not telling
- 8:43Speaker 1: you to go five and one down the stretch here,
- 8:45Speaker 1: but I also said they weren't going to be Bama.
- 8:46Speaker 1: So go prove me wrong again, from Bama's perspective, that
- 8:49Speaker 1: LSU game in a couple of weeks becomes a, a,
- 8:52Speaker 1: a playoff eliminator. Now it won't be next year, next year.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It'll be for who gets a home game, but, um, it,
- 8:58Speaker 1: it's a playoff.
- 9:00Speaker 4: It very well.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Maybe eliminator this year.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:02Speaker 1: We, we probably need to spend a few minutes on
- 9:04Speaker 1: that at some point, but not today because we have
- 9:07Speaker 1: a lot to get to, but, uh, Bama's got to,
- 9:11Speaker 1: I mean, they essentially have to run the table. I
- 9:13Speaker 1: don't know that they're going to get in if they don't.
- 9:16Speaker 3: They can, though. I think that's the thing. It's like, okay.
- 9:20Speaker 1: They need a lot of help. Because 9-3 Bama versus
- 9:24Speaker 1: the 10-2 Notre Dame that we just talked about.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't want to sit here and say that
- 9:29Speaker 2: Alabama will be able to handle this against everybody else
- 9:32Speaker 2: in their schedule. That being said, that LSU game is
- 9:34Speaker 2: the one game that you look at. Besides that, you
- 9:36Speaker 2: probably say you can win out. You can win against
- 9:38Speaker 2: Texas A & M. You can win against Vanderbilt. You
- 9:40Speaker 2: can win against the G5 program that you're going to
- 9:42Speaker 2: face off against. You get Auburn and the Iron Bowl
- 9:43Speaker 2: at home, where Auburn does not win in Tuscaloosa. So
- 9:46Speaker 2: this is the one game you got to worry about.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'm not selling my Alabama stock. I know what a
- 9:51Speaker 2: place like Neyland can do to a young quarterback and
- 9:53Speaker 2: make him erratic and be in an environment of just
- 9:55Speaker 2: pure hell.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I understand that the run game was not there.
- 9:59Speaker 2: To me, this is a moment of clarity where you
- 10:01Speaker 2: have to sit up and wake up and say, somebody
- 10:04Speaker 2: in our wide receiver core has got to be that
- 10:05Speaker 2: difference maker now that we don't have Ryan Coleman Williams. Defensively,
- 10:09Speaker 2: you've got to make sure that you play much more
- 10:11Speaker 2: physical at the line of scrimmage. That's a Kane Womack
- 10:13Speaker 2: thing that he's got to look at. You've got to
- 10:14Speaker 2: play better press man coverage downfield. Bottom line, I don't
- 10:18Speaker 2: want to hear about injuries. I don't want to hear it.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I don't want to hear a damn thing about, oh,
- 10:22Speaker 2: we were banged up and losing Xabian Brown.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Nobody cares. Nobody gives a flying care in the world
- 10:26Speaker 3: about who you were.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I'm watching as LSU mollywhopped the brakes off of Mississippi State.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And Mississippi State fans aren't sitting here bitching about them
- 10:36Speaker 2: not having Kamario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell. I don't want
- 10:38Speaker 2: to hear that because Xabian Brown left the game or
- 10:40Speaker 2: that Bray Hubbard took a bad hit. That's the reason
- 10:42Speaker 2: you lost. No, you lost because you got your asses kicked. I...
- 10:46Speaker 2: it's too early for me to say that Alabama is
- 10:49Speaker 2: going to just unravel. But if that's the performance that
- 10:54Speaker 2: you see, if that's the way that your offense is
- 10:57Speaker 2: going to look, if that's the way that you're going
- 11:00Speaker 2: to have play designs, brother, Ryan Grubb, this is your
- 11:03Speaker 2: last year as the offense coordinator there. And there are
- 11:05Speaker 2: a bunch of things that you are going to have
- 11:07Speaker 2: to change. Because this offensive line that looked really impressive
- 11:10Speaker 2: at times this year also looked awful in drives against
- 11:14Speaker 2: Mississippi State, looked awful in drives against Georgia, was terrible
- 11:18Speaker 2: in the first quarter against Kentucky, and you still have
- 11:21Speaker 2: to face off against LSU's defensive front on the road,
- 11:25Speaker 2: and you still have to face off against Auburn's defensive
- 11:27Speaker 2: front that is better than expected.
- 11:31Speaker 5: I've been high on Tennessee most of the season. I
- 11:33Speaker 5: actually picked them to beat Texas earlier on this year
- 11:36Speaker 5: in revisionist history. If George McIntyre starts that game and
- 11:40Speaker 5: finishes that game, do you like Tennessee maybe a little
- 11:43Speaker 5: bit better against Texas? Granted, an otherworldly defensive performance by
- 11:47Speaker 5: the Longhorns, but we know what Texas is now, I guess,
- 11:50Speaker 5: at this point. I look back on that game and say,
- 11:53Speaker 5: a couple things change, and that's a win for Tennessee.
- 11:57Speaker 4: This was.
- 11:58Speaker 5: Classic football in that if you win in the trenches,
- 12:00Speaker 5: you're going to go a long way. And Tennessee won
- 12:03Speaker 5: in the trenches, especially along the defensive line, when your
- 12:05Speaker 5: lead back is five yards per carry, when your starting
- 12:08Speaker 5: quarterback has 67% completion percentage. The yardage, yeah, sure, you'd
- 12:12Speaker 5: like it to be a little bit better. Explosives in
- 12:14Speaker 5: the passing game here and there to keep you alive. But, man,
- 12:18Speaker 5: they just owned Alabama in the trenches, offensively and defensively.
- 12:22Speaker 5: I think the players that Jim Knowles brought with him
- 12:25Speaker 5: from Penn State, especially Amari Campbell, Xavier Gilliam, who is
- 12:29Speaker 5: arguably one of the best interior defensive linemen in the country.
- 12:32Speaker 4: He is so disruptive. And then Day-Day Lane.
- 12:35Speaker 5: You had that contingent of guys that could come in
- 12:37Speaker 5: and educate on the field so that it wasn't just
- 12:40Speaker 5: the coaches working it towards the players. Plus, Aaron Carter, Weathersby.
- 12:44Speaker 5: There's a lot of talent on this defense. It's now,
- 12:46Speaker 5: can Tennessee keep this thing going? Alabama, it's been said
- 12:50Speaker 5: that this team feels, quote-unquote, West Coast-ish. And I don't
- 12:56Speaker 5: know what it is. I think this, again, like this
- 12:58Speaker 5: is the identity of Alabama that people have had for
- 13:00Speaker 5: many years, and it's not the same thump them type
- 13:03Speaker 5: of mentality, not that same punch you in the mouth
- 13:06Speaker 5: type of offensive and defensive line. They just don't have
- 13:09Speaker 5: the talent at those positions. So they're fortunate the rest
- 13:12Speaker 5: of the way outside of the LSU game. I like
- 13:14Speaker 5: Alabama to win the rest of their games, except for
- 13:17Speaker 5: the LSU game being a coin flip.
- 13:18Speaker 4: We're going to wait and see there, but.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't fault Keelan Russell being in a situation
- 13:23Speaker 5: where his offensive line couldn't protect him.
- 13:25Speaker 4: They couldn't run the football. Some people were saying, if
- 13:28Speaker 4: they had Ryan Coleman Williams, maybe this is different. I
- 13:30Speaker 4: don't think that. I don't think that at all.
- 13:32Speaker 5: I think Ryan Coleman Williams would have helped a little bit,
- 13:34Speaker 5: but it wouldn't have made a tremendous difference in this.
- 13:36Speaker 5: So credit to Tennessee picking up a huge win. I
- 13:39Speaker 5: have them at number five in my college football addiction poll.
- 13:42Speaker 4: So GBO.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Okay, out of curiosity, and then we can move on
- 13:46Speaker 2: if you guys want to, but I had Tennessee at 25.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Was anybody more wrong about a team this week than us,
- 13:53Speaker 2: than most people with Tennessee?
- 13:55Speaker 1: I hadn't bumped them down yet. They were surviving, so
- 13:58Speaker 1: I was like 14-ish, I think, on them. I don't
- 14:02Speaker 1: know exactly.
- 14:05Speaker 4: No, you.
- 14:06Speaker 5: You.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Nobody was more wrong than you.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Me. Me. Me.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I've been wrong before. I'll be wrong again.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I promise.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 14:15Speaker 4: We're in the business of being wrong.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Was anybody more wrong than us?
- 14:20Speaker 3: And I was like, uh, you're dumbass.
- 14:24Speaker 4: It wasn't us.
- 14:27Speaker 2: You and the guy that has his own college football
- 14:28Speaker 2: show on Barstool, both called them the most overrated one
- 14:31Speaker 2: loss team in the country. Yep.
- 14:32Speaker 3: You guys are idiots. I'm fine with that.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Yeah, they absolutely deserve to be top 10. I mean,
- 14:38Speaker 1: what SEC teams would you have ahead?
- 14:41Speaker 2: Georgia?
- 14:41Speaker 1: Ole Miss, maybe?
- 14:43Speaker 3: Ole Miss and Kentucky are coin flips.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Because Kentucky, to me, I don't think Kentucky is maybe
- 14:50Speaker 2: better than Tennessee, but I think they play more consistent
- 14:52Speaker 2: on both sides of the football.
- 14:54Speaker 1: The one thing that Ole Miss and Kentucky have, I agree.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I think I would certainly take Ole Miss head-to-head. I
- 15:00Speaker 1: don't know if I would take Kentucky head-to-head. That'd be
- 15:01Speaker 1: a great game. We'll get to see it. The one
- 15:04Speaker 1: thing that Ole Miss and Kentucky have that Tennessee does
- 15:06Speaker 1: not have is a blowout embarrassing loss. Yeah, you're right.
- 15:10Speaker 1: And so also they have got the head-to-head with Kentucky,
- 15:15Speaker 1: the Bama game. And then with Ole Miss, you're having
- 15:19Speaker 1: to do some transitive property math to figure out who's
- 15:22Speaker 1: better between Ole Miss. I think I'd trust Chambliss in
- 15:24Speaker 1: a game against McIntyre. They looked really good yesterday. We're
- 15:27Speaker 1: not going to get to that game, but they looked really,
- 15:29Speaker 1: really good.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That would be a B-minus game from Chambliss.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Let's shout out that top 25 poll that you guys
- 15:36Speaker 1: just referenced. You can go to CFA top 25 right

- 15:43Speaker 1: you can put whatever 25 teams you want. I had
- 15:46Speaker 1: somebody with JMU in the top 15 on there. So
- 15:48Speaker 1: shout out to the fighting Billy Napiers, but go check
- 15:51Speaker 1: out CFA top 25.com. It's been a lot of fun
