- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland. The premier says, a fifteen percent rebate
- 0:04Speaker 1: on the electricity bills of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will come
- 0:08Speaker 1: into effect once the Hydro agreement between this province and
- 0:11Speaker 1: Quebec is finalized. Premier Tony Wakem says the savings will
- 0:16Speaker 1: be even greater since the rebate is coming off before
- 0:20Speaker 1: taxes are applied. The province estimates that the average savings
- 0:24Speaker 1: per household will be about three hundred and fifty dollars
- 0:27Speaker 1: per year. He says the rebate will be in effect
- 0:29Speaker 1: for the life of the fifty year contract and will
- 0:32Speaker 1: apply to the first two thousand kilowatt hours burned per month.
- 0:36Speaker 2: But it was important that right out of the gate
- 0:38Speaker 2: for me to say to the people in Newfuland and Larbrador,
- 0:41Speaker 2: We're going to do something immediately for the people in
- 0:44Speaker 2: Newfland Larbrador, and this is where we're starting.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Work is now underway with nl Hydro and Newfoundland Power
- 0:49Speaker 1: to reach definitive agreements on the implementation of the rebate.
- 0:52Speaker 1: The target is to have those agreements signed before the
- 0:55Speaker 1: end of the year. The rebate will cost the provincial
- 0:58Speaker 1: government approximately ninety two million dollars annually, with the money
- 1:02Speaker 1: coming from the new agreement reach with Quebec. US President
- 1:06Speaker 1: Donald Trump says a trade deal has been reached with Canada,
- 1:10Speaker 1: subject to finalization. Trump had threatened to impose fifty percent
- 1:14Speaker 1: tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods, but extended
- 1:18Speaker 1: the deadline at the last minute. He told reporters outside
- 1:21Speaker 1: the White House yesterday that a very good conversation was
- 1:25Speaker 1: had with Prime Minister Mark Kearney and what he calls
- 1:27Speaker 1: a very fair deal has been reached.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Tariffs will be non existent for our farmers. Our farmers
- 1:33Speaker 3: were paying tremendous tariffs into Canada and those tariffs are
- 1:38Speaker 3: going to be totally vistritten down to zero.
- 1:40Speaker 1: He says the US is reducing the tariffs on Canadian goods,
- 1:44Speaker 1: but would not offer further detail.
- 1:47Speaker 3: They were going to get a fifty percent tariff when
- 1:49Speaker 3: everything's starting today, and we've held it back three days.
- 1:53Speaker 3: It's so subject to finalization of documents. So subject to
- 1:57Speaker 3: the finalization of documents. We have a deal with Canada,
- 2:00Speaker 3: and I think it's a very good deal for both
- 2:02Speaker 3: both parties.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Gas is now back up over the two dollars a
- 2:06Speaker 1: leter mark in almost all areas. The pub has raised
- 2:10Speaker 1: the price by one point seven cents per leter Diesel
- 2:14Speaker 1: is up by a cent and a half on the
- 2:16Speaker 1: island and a cent in Labrador West. There's hardly any
- 2:20Speaker 1: change to the price of furnace and stove oil. A
- 2:23Speaker 1: fifty four year old man who was on a Canada

- 2:37Speaker 2: around eight o'clock last Thursday, who reported that a dirt
- 2:40Speaker 2: bike was being driven in a dangerous manner along Front
- 2:43Speaker 2: Road in the town. The officers spotted the bike described
- 2:47Speaker 2: and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused
- 2:50Speaker 2: to pull over and instead tore off at a high speed.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Officers did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of
- 2:56Speaker 2: public safety. On Monday, police received another complet about the
- 3:00Speaker 2: same person who was heading down Anderson Cove Road toward
- 3:04Speaker 2: New Harbor. Police located fifty four year old Barry Martin
- 3:07Speaker 2: of Dildo, and he was arrested. He's scheduled to appear

- 3:25Speaker 1: Canada's mortgage delinquency rates remain remarkably low compared with other
- 3:30Speaker 1: developed countries. Here's John Kennedy.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Royal Lapage report says mortgage delinquency rates in Canada remain
- 3:37Speaker 4: remarkably low compared with other developed countries, though some households
- 3:40Speaker 4: have felt stretched by the rising monthly payments. The survey
- 3:44Speaker 4: suggests thirty eight percent of Canadians expect their mortgage to
- 3:47Speaker 4: rise upon renewal, a drop from early twenty twenty five,
- 3:50Speaker 4: when fifty seven percent of renewing homeowners expected their payments
- 3:53Speaker 4: to rise. Among those anticipating a higher payment for the month,
- 3:57Speaker 4: seventy six percent said it would place financial strain on
- 4:00Speaker 4: their households, and more than half said they would reduce
- 4:02Speaker 4: discretionary spending to make ends meet. However, nearly three quarters
- 4:06Speaker 4: of those with an upcoming renewal said they would not
- 4:08Speaker 4: be changing their living arrangements. John Kennedy the Canadian Press, Toronto.

- 4:28Speaker 1: for nearly twenty years, raising millions over the course. A
- 4:32Speaker 1: portion of the proceeds today goes to the MS Society
- 4:36Speaker 1: for research and programs.
- 4:38Speaker 5: We try to make it very easy. Two dollars from
