Latest / Michelle Explains Anime, Poorly / Banana Fish Ep. 19- Ice Palace
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, Michelle. Starting this over again because
- 0:06Speaker 1: everything sucks this week. Not as much as it sucked
- 0:10Speaker 1: last week when I was crying during the episode and
- 0:13Speaker 1: then I cried some more later, but still sucks a lot.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So I am recording this on Wednesday, as like the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Wednesday before it's supposed to come out like tomorrow Wednesday,
- 0:26Speaker 1: because I was trying to yesterday, but then the HVAC
- 0:29Speaker 1: technician had to come, but he didn't even tell me
- 0:31Speaker 1: he was coming, so like everything was just a mess.
- 0:35Speaker 1: But like, that's the least of my problems. I fought
- 0:38Speaker 1: my drone on Friday unintentionally. I wish I could explain
- 0:43Speaker 1: to you why I thought it was a good idea
- 0:45Speaker 1: to put my hand up in front of the blades
- 0:48Speaker 1: of my drone when it was in the air. Basically
- 0:52Speaker 1: I had, you know, touched the control and it started
- 0:55Speaker 1: coming towards me. Instead of just moving out of the way,
- 0:58Speaker 1: I just shielded myself and cut the shit out of
- 1:02Speaker 1: my thumb and my pinky, and my pinky was bleeding
- 1:06Speaker 1: like so much. Like you gotta understand, this was for work,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and it was right at the beginning of my inspection
- 1:13Speaker 1: and the realtor's like, are you okay? And I'm like
- 1:16Speaker 1: bleeding all over the sidewalk, and then in my car
- 1:19Speaker 1: as I'm like trying to stop my finger from just
- 1:22Speaker 1: you know, gushing blood everywhere, and I'm just like, yeah,
- 1:25Speaker 1: I'm fine, I'm fine, and it like eventually stopped when
- 1:28Speaker 1: I put a band aid on it. I mean not really,
- 1:30Speaker 1: but it stopped enough that it wasn't just coming all
- 1:32Speaker 1: over the place. And then I like had to sit
- 1:37Speaker 1: in my car and I was like, please, we can't
- 1:39Speaker 1: have a panic attack. I have to do this inspection.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It's gonna take like three hours, so I have to
- 1:44Speaker 1: not have a panic attack. Later I realized that that
- 1:47Speaker 1: was a panic attack. Yay, I had a panic attack
- 1:50Speaker 1: at work, So things are just kind of all over
- 1:52Speaker 1: the place. It was really hard to write notes because
- 1:54Speaker 1: it's my left hand, so I can't really tell what
- 1:57Speaker 1: I wrote. And no, I'm not gonna type it. That
- 2:00Speaker 1: takes me forever. I'm such a slow typer you would
- 2:03Speaker 1: be embarrassed anyway. The good news is the extra day
- 2:07Speaker 1: gave me a little bit more time to prepare this episode,
- 2:09Speaker 1: because honestly, I'm not really sure what's going on with
- 2:13Speaker 1: the subtitles, but I don't know if there's been like
- 2:17Speaker 1: multiple people doing the translations. But this episode was like bad,
- 2:21Speaker 1: Like there were words missing, there were things that I'm
- 2:23Speaker 1: pretty sure are mistranslated or like the context is a
- 2:26Speaker 1: little bit off, or like, are just things that I'm
- 2:29Speaker 1: just like, no one will ever say words like that
- 2:32Speaker 1: in English. You just wouldn't, especially not a teenager. So
- 2:36Speaker 1: just like in other episodes, a lot of what I'm
- 2:39Speaker 1: gonna read is more akin to the manga translation, I mean,
- 2:44Speaker 1: excluding all of the extra stuff that's in the manga.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But like you know, there are a bunch of spots
- 2:50Speaker 1: where I was just like, I'm pretty sure if I
- 2:52Speaker 1: like looked at this in the manga, I would understand
- 2:53Speaker 1: what they meant, and I did, so yep, so let's
- 2:58Speaker 1: just let's just do it because I gotta get this.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Then I gotta take like hours and hours to edit
- 3:03Speaker 1: out all of the really dumb things I did in it,
- 3:06Speaker 1: like pause for a really long time stuff like that.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So yeah, So episode nineteen of Banana Fish, which is
- 3:15Speaker 1: what we're doing in case you forgot, not that you could,
- 3:18Speaker 1: especially after last week, that is. But it's called Ice Palace,
- 3:22Speaker 1: which I think is a great title for this episode.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It is named after a novel by Edna Ferber that
- 3:30Speaker 1: has absolutely nothing to do with banana fish, despite it
- 3:33Speaker 1: being such a good title for this episode. So I'm
- 3:37Speaker 1: sure you remember where we ended off last week, because
- 3:41Speaker 1: how could you not with all of my crying, so
- 3:44Speaker 1: I don't know. In case you forgot, Ash was being
- 3:47Speaker 1: carded away to experience basically his worst fears. So that
- 3:54Speaker 1: is exactly where we start episode nineteen. So we're at
- 3:58Speaker 1: the pier. Ka is standing and he's watching Dino's cars
- 4:02Speaker 1: drive off and Ash obviously be driven away as well,
- 4:07Speaker 1: and ue Lung, who is like standing over by his car, says,
- 4:10Speaker 1: what did you and Ash talk about? And Blanca's like,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I just told him to go back with the machere
- 4:16Speaker 1: yue Lung walks over to him and is like, hmmm,
- 4:20Speaker 1: so be it your contract with the Machure is over now, right, Blanca?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Would you consider working for me? Blanca is just like
- 4:27Speaker 1: I refuse. U A Lung is a little bit shocked
- 4:30Speaker 1: for a second, and then he's like, you won't even consider.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Blanca says, I've already retired. This was just a special exception.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Is there really someone that you're that eager to eliminate
- 4:42Speaker 1: ue Lung says A g O Kimura. What you promised
- 4:46Speaker 1: Ash that you wouldn't kill him, That was the whole
- 4:49Speaker 1: big term of the deal. You gotta be fucking kidding
- 4:53Speaker 1: me anyway. Blanca says, why do you despise that Japanese
- 4:58Speaker 1: boy so much? He's just helpless? Kit you along side
- 5:02Speaker 1: and starts to walk back to his car and says,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I haven't given up though. He's like getting into his
- 5:08Speaker 1: car now, I'll find you even in the Caribbean. Blanca
- 5:12Speaker 1: smiles in like a pained sort of way, and he says,
- 5:15Speaker 1: how scary and you A Lung's just like, good night, Blanca,
- 5:19Speaker 1: we'll meet again. Blanco watches his car as he drives off,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and then we go to the opening. Good news, this
- 5:26Speaker 1: is already better than the last time. Yay. We come
- 5:30Speaker 1: back from the opening on an exterior shot of Chinatown
- 5:33Speaker 1: and we hear Kang saying we're standing out, aren't we.
- 5:37Speaker 1: We see Bones, Kong Ag and Alex walking down the
- 5:40Speaker 1: street and people are staring at them, and Alex says,
- 5:44Speaker 1: they're still mad at us about Shorter, so don't fight back.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Bones is like, are you sure Sing knows something and
- 5:52Speaker 1: AG says it's just a feeling, but I think Sing's
- 5:54Speaker 1: boss U A Lung does. And then Bones is like,
- 5:57Speaker 1: they're here. We see a group of people approaching them
- 6:00Speaker 1: from all sides. This one guy who's just gonna talk
- 6:03Speaker 1: for the whole group, I guess, says, what's that smell?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Are there pigs around here? And AG's like, we're not
- 6:10Speaker 1: here to fight, we just want to talk to your boss,
- 6:13Speaker 1: saying the guy to Alex says, is this sucker one
- 6:16Speaker 1: of your guys? Seems like Ashling's was pretty desperate. Alex
- 6:20Speaker 1: is like, shit, your fucking mouth and the guy's like, yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 1: you want some of this and he like takes out
- 6:24Speaker 1: a knife and luckily Sing is watching from the fire
- 6:27Speaker 1: escape and he says that's enough. I never told you
- 6:29Speaker 1: to pick a fight, and then to Ag, he says,
- 6:32Speaker 1: so we meet again. AG's like, I came to ask
- 6:35Speaker 1: you something. Okay, that's the end of that scene. I
- 6:37Speaker 1: wanted to point out something because I don't know if
- 6:40Speaker 1: you're gonna think it was weird, but I did. There's
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know, Ag says he's not here to fight, and
- 6:46Speaker 1: then the guy is like, why are you running with
- 6:50Speaker 1: this like sucker, dude, and it's like AG has done
- 6:53Speaker 1: nothing except exist, you know, like I mean, he's Asian,
- 6:57Speaker 1: but so are all of these kids, Like I don't
- 6:59Speaker 1: really understand. So what's going on here is we just
- 7:02Speaker 1: lost an entire joke from the manga, So they really
- 7:06Speaker 1: should have just caught that line altogether. But in the manga,
- 7:08Speaker 1: when that guy's like, what smells like pigs? Ag is
- 7:12Speaker 1: just like, oh, over there, and an he like points
- 7:14Speaker 1: to a I guess restaurant storefront that has like hanging
- 7:18Speaker 1: like meats in the window, including like a whole pig
- 7:21Speaker 1: and some chickens, and he's like, yeah, it's coming from
- 7:23Speaker 1: over there. I really like that smell. So the guy
- 7:25Speaker 1: is just like what the fuck is wrong with him?
- 7:28Speaker 1: Because AG doesn't understand the context. And I also wanted
- 7:31Speaker 1: to point out one of the big things that we
- 7:34Speaker 1: lose in the anime from the manga is that, at
- 7:37Speaker 1: least in the English version, I can't speak for the
- 7:38Speaker 1: original Japanese, but AG doesn't speak English that well, Like
- 7:43Speaker 1: he doesn't speak it poorly, but he speaks it like
- 7:46Speaker 1: someone might speak a second language that they're not, you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: one hundred percent fluid in so sometimes people in the
- 7:52Speaker 1: manga are like, what's with the accent, and he'll like
- 7:56Speaker 1: get made fun of. Yeah, I mean there were times
- 7:58Speaker 1: when he doesn't understand something that's someone says, or when
- 8:02Speaker 1: he thinks he's thinking in Japanese, like this is clearly
- 8:05Speaker 1: his second language. So that's kind of what you know
- 8:08Speaker 1: we were doing here, But uh, it kind of sucks
- 8:10Speaker 1: to miss it, and it really sucks to have the
- 8:12Speaker 1: end of it in there, as if it just makes
- 8:15Speaker 1: sense to call Ag outs like stupid or something without
- 8:19Speaker 1: having the backgrounds. Yep, So that's what I wanted to
- 8:22Speaker 1: tell you. Anyway. Now we see Ag and Sing in
- 8:27Speaker 1: a room like maybe a bedroom. AG's sitting on the
- 8:30Speaker 1: bed and Sing is just standing in front of him,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and Singh says, you want to meet with U a Lung?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Why for real? AG's like, ash has been missing since
- 8:40Speaker 1: the day before yesterday. I don't know where he is.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Singh says, so you're saying it was U a Lung.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Ag like kind of looks down and he's like I
- 8:49Speaker 1: think so. Sing just kind of stares at Ag with
- 8:52Speaker 1: his arms crossed and he kind of like hms or whatever.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Then we cut to Ag and Sing walking to the
- 8:59Speaker 1: door or of what looks like a restaurant, so I
- 9:02Speaker 1: assume this was like an apartment above a restaurant or
- 9:04Speaker 1: something that they were in, and sings like, we're going
- 9:07Speaker 1: out for a bit. You guys make yourselves at home,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and we see Alex Bones and Kan like sitting at
- 9:13Speaker 1: a table eating a variety of different noodles, and they
- 9:15Speaker 1: look like super surprised to hear this because they need
- 9:17Speaker 1: to watch AG like that's at least Bones and Kong's job.
- 9:21Speaker 1: So yeah, So Alex is like, where are you going?
- 9:25Speaker 1: And Ag turns back and he's like, sorry, guys, don't
- 9:28Speaker 1: worry about me. We cut to a tea cup on
- 9:33Speaker 1: a table and then we see that yueiy Lung is
- 9:36Speaker 1: like lounging on a couch with like lots of pillows,
- 9:39Speaker 1: like it looks super comfy, and he's reading like a
- 9:42Speaker 1: magazine or a newspaper and he says, you brought an
- 9:45Speaker 1: unusual guest with you, huh sang. Ag and Sing are
- 9:48Speaker 1: standing across from the couch and Ag says Ash is gone,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and I think you know where he is. Fucking rites
- 9:55Speaker 1: to the point ag Ui Lung's like, yeah, I guess
- 9:59Speaker 1: you do have a break in that head of yours.
- 10:01Speaker 1: AG takes like a sharp breath and he's like, what
- 10:05Speaker 1: did you do to him? Oh? Uilung stands and he's like, well,
- 10:10Speaker 1: if you want to know that badly, he gave up
- 10:13Speaker 1: everything for you. He made a deal with us to
- 10:15Speaker 1: save your life. Ag gasps yeah. Uilone continues, there was
- 10:22Speaker 1: this big scandal that was supposed to sweep the nation
- 10:25Speaker 1: in a couple of months, but he handed over all
- 10:27Speaker 1: that information. Sing like looks on in disbelief. You Wilon continues,
- 10:32Speaker 1: but that's not all. Why do you think he hasn't
- 10:34Speaker 1: come home to you. He's in Golzane's hands now, and
- 10:38Speaker 1: then super dramatically, he's like he's returned to hell because
- 10:42Speaker 1: of you. This is all your fault. AG looks pissed off,
- 10:47Speaker 1: but he didn't say anything. Uilon continues, I bet you're
- 10:51Speaker 1: not gonna do anything about it, though, or will you
- 10:54Speaker 1: feel so terrible that you take your own life. He
- 10:57Speaker 1: like walks over the window and he's like, let me
- 10:59Speaker 1: help you out, and he opens the window. Fuck anyway.
- 11:04Speaker 1: AG doesn't jump out the window, thank god, and he's
- 11:06Speaker 1: just like, is that all you wanted to say? Well,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I don't care what you say to me. I won't
- 11:11Speaker 1: think it's my fault. Ash cares for me just as
- 11:14Speaker 1: much as I care for him. That's all this means.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And I'm going to rescue him no matter what. I'll
- 11:20Speaker 1: do whatever it takes, even if it means I have
- 11:22Speaker 1: to kill. So you can say whatever you want, asshole.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And he like runs out and slams the door and
- 11:28Speaker 1: sings like you lose yuey Lung like straight up throws
- 11:33Speaker 1: the cup of tea at him and it like shatters
- 11:35Speaker 1: against the wall like next to his head, and Sing's
- 11:39Speaker 1: like ooh, getting a little hysterical, huh, And Uelung's like
- 11:42Speaker 1: shut up. Sing turns to leave, and he's like, you know,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I don't hate you, but you're in the wrong this time.
- 11:48Speaker 1: If you're gonna team up with Golden and be shady
- 11:51Speaker 1: like that, he kind of turns back and he's like
- 11:54Speaker 1: I might just side with ag He leaves. We cut
- 11:59Speaker 1: to a like army looking guy, like general looking guy.
- 12:03Speaker 1: He's like sitting down somewhere like a table or something,
- 12:07Speaker 1: and he says, Talia is our target. Nowhere else, we
- 12:12Speaker 1: see that there's a bunch of men in suits in
- 12:14Speaker 1: a room seated at a long table. We're just seeing
- 12:17Speaker 1: one side of the table right now, where the army
- 12:19Speaker 1: looking guy is, and he continues, the more unsable it gets,
- 12:23Speaker 1: the more influenced the terrorist game. We're like panning slowly
- 12:27Speaker 1: across the table as he talks, and he continues, if
- 12:31Speaker 1: we leave it alone, it could lead to another nine
- 12:32Speaker 1: to eleven. We see now that Dino is at the
- 12:35Speaker 1: head of the table and we're continuing to pan, and
- 12:38Speaker 1: the guy continues, we must take action before that becomes
- 12:41Speaker 1: a reality. We have now panned to the other side
- 12:44Speaker 1: of the table and Ash, who is there in a
- 12:47Speaker 1: suit chuckles. I fucking called at everyone, and we'll talk
- 12:50Speaker 1: about that in a minutes. The general is like, what's
- 12:53Speaker 1: so funny, Ash, Oh, he's in a green suit, by
- 12:57Speaker 1: the way, and he's got a classic Ash smirk on.
- 13:00Speaker 1: He says, General, what you're trying to say is understandable. However,
- 13:06Speaker 1: we've invested a fortune in this project and your proposal
- 13:09Speaker 1: just has no chance of recouping those costs. The general
- 13:13Speaker 1: guy is like, and what would a teenager like? You know? Smiles,
- 13:17Speaker 1: who is seated next to him, is like, General, and
- 13:20Speaker 1: he gets the guy to shut up and also Smiles
- 13:23Speaker 1: looks real, real stressed. And I don't know if it's
- 13:27Speaker 1: because he knows that Ash isn't just some teenager or
- 13:31Speaker 1: because this is not going well, but anyway, he goes,
- 13:34Speaker 1: then what do you propose? Ash smirks, as if he
- 13:37Speaker 1: wasn't already doing that. We cut forward, I guess a bits,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and we see some papers on the table and stuff,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and they have like words on them, as paper sometimes do,
- 13:45Speaker 1: and grabs and we hear a voice say, stage a
- 13:49Speaker 1: military coup in Afghanistan and set up a pro American government.
- 13:54Speaker 1: That's not a real place, And Ashes like, just use
- 13:57Speaker 1: banana fish on the Maliban anti terror organization. Yeah, these
- 14:01Speaker 1: names are really embarrassing. He continues, Cafghanistan is the largest
- 14:05Speaker 1: producer of heroin. Currently most of the supply goes to Europe,
- 14:09Speaker 1: but it can be all ours. The US government has
- 14:12Speaker 1: wanted to take the upperhand for Ages. Smiles is like,
- 14:17Speaker 1: but we have over ten thousand of our soldiers over
- 14:20Speaker 1: there right now. They'll be dragged into the dispute. Ash says,
- 14:24Speaker 1: it's a chance to show the world just how great
- 14:27Speaker 1: America is. Isn't that worth it? What? Smiles look shocked
- 14:32Speaker 1: and the General's like, so you want us to just
- 14:35Speaker 1: abandon them? Talking to you makes me feel like I'm
- 14:38Speaker 1: making a deal with the devil. Ash smirks, Deviously, we
- 14:43Speaker 1: cut two goalzines sitting on a couch with some tea,
- 14:47Speaker 1: and we can see that someone is sitting in the foreground,
- 14:51Speaker 1: like we could see their back kind of curved that
- 14:54Speaker 1: we can't see who it is. And Dino says, I
- 14:59Speaker 1: know I told you to be straightforward, but that was
- 15:01Speaker 1: a little bit too blunt. Good work, though. We can
- 15:04Speaker 1: now see that it is Ash, hunched over a desk
- 15:08Speaker 1: and he's like sweating, and he looks real panicked, and
- 15:11Speaker 1: he just says, I make myself sick. Oh. He turns
- 15:15Speaker 1: to Dino and stands, why are you making me do this?
- 15:20Speaker 1: I know your men already came up with this idea.
- 15:22Speaker 1: He walks over to Dino. Were you testing me to
- 15:25Speaker 1: see if I'd get it right? Dino's like, well, that
- 15:29Speaker 1: was a part of it, but your ideas actually perfected
- 15:33Speaker 1: the plan. You did a good job. Ash is like,
- 15:37Speaker 1: it's the only way to clear the conditions you mentioned.
- 15:39Speaker 1: He kind of looks away. Dino sets down the tea
- 15:44Speaker 1: and he's like, why do you look so irritated I'm
- 15:47Speaker 1: praising your work. Huh. Ash, still not looking at him, says,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you said you were going to make me a prostitute. Again,
- 15:55Speaker 1: he looks back. You said you were going to debase
- 15:58Speaker 1: me until I went out of my mind. So what
- 16:01Speaker 1: are you waiting for? I take that over this hell
- 16:03Speaker 1: hole any day. Fuck you Ash? Okay, Dino says, I'm
- 16:10Speaker 1: doing exactly as I said I would. It's just that
- 16:14Speaker 1: from now on, it's not your body that you'll be selling,
- 16:17Speaker 1: but your soul. Ah. Yes, Ash as a corporate wor,
- 16:22Speaker 1: he continues, and you will continue to do so. You
- 16:25Speaker 1: have no other choice. Ash does not look happy. Dino continues,
- 16:32Speaker 1: We're going to the opera tonight. He picks up a jacket.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I guess that's on the couch or whatever, and he stands.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Ash sits back down at the desk that he was
- 16:42Speaker 1: sitting up for. Dino continues, They're performing Wolfgang Amadeus mozarts
- 16:48Speaker 1: the Marriage of Figaro. He starts to walk towards Ash.
- 16:52Speaker 1: It's one of your favorites. If I remember correctly, we
- 16:55Speaker 1: have now like a shot of kind of Ash part
- 16:59Speaker 1: of his body from under the desk. So like what
- 17:00Speaker 1: you'd see directly under like the desk part like the
- 17:05Speaker 1: bottom of his kind of torso crotch area. We can
- 17:08Speaker 1: see his fists or clenched. It's kind of a really
- 17:11Speaker 1: interesting shot. And Dino continues Ominaeus, which means loved by God,
- 17:19Speaker 1: and indeed he was just like you. We now see
- 17:23Speaker 1: Dino's legs walk up towards the chair and then the
- 17:27Speaker 1: chair like an Ash turned towards him, and it's pretty
- 17:31Speaker 1: clear from the way this happens that Ash is not
- 17:34Speaker 1: the one that turned the chair. And then we see,
- 17:37Speaker 1: of course Dino's hand on the chair next to Ash's
- 17:40Speaker 1: face and he's hovering over him, and he continues, but
- 17:45Speaker 1: your gifts are for me alone to enjoy. Ash's expression
- 17:49Speaker 1: is pretty damn stoic. Honestly, good for him, because fuck.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Dino leans down and he kind of caresses Ash's chin
- 17:58Speaker 1: with his hand and he pulls it up to me
- 18:00Speaker 1: his gaze. This is not fun, and he continues, I've
- 18:04Speaker 1: told you this already. You can't run from me. Ash
- 18:13Speaker 1: looks pretty damn blank here, which is yay defense. Dino
- 18:19Speaker 1: closes in like for a kiss, fuck, and before their
- 18:25Speaker 1: lips touch, Oh god, we cut to behind, so we're
- 18:29Speaker 1: just seeing Dino's back. The action is totally obscured, but
- 18:33Speaker 1: we fucking know what's going on. And there's like a
- 18:36Speaker 1: pretty decent pause now, and then we cut back to
- 18:40Speaker 1: their faces as Dino pulls away and we see that
- 18:43Speaker 1: he's bleeding from his lower lip. He seems pretty shocked
- 18:47Speaker 1: for a second, but then he kind of smiles and
- 18:50Speaker 1: he wipes the blood away, and Ash's mouse has blood
- 18:54Speaker 1: in the corner of it too, and he's staring at
- 18:57Speaker 1: him like super coldly because he's fuck awesome, and Dino says,
- 19:03Speaker 1: you're an ill tempered, sharp clawed peacock. He starts to
- 19:06Speaker 1: walk away. I can't wait to pluck those feathers. Fuck Okay,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I want to stop there for a second because I
- 19:16Speaker 1: want to talk about Ash as a corporate whore. So
- 19:19Speaker 1: this was on my Bengo card. This is what I
- 19:21Speaker 1: thought was going to happen. More or less. I figure
- 19:24Speaker 1: that this could go one of three ways. The first
- 19:28Speaker 1: is that, and this is probably for me be the
- 19:31Speaker 1: least satisfying way is that like nothing happens after episode eighteen,
- 19:37Speaker 1: Like he just escapes or Blanca saves him, and he
- 19:40Speaker 1: just goes back, like I don't know, like it was
- 19:42Speaker 1: like not really a real threat kind of deal. I
- 19:45Speaker 1: didn't think that was gonna happen. So then my other
- 19:47Speaker 1: two options were he's actually going to be a prostitute again,
- 19:52Speaker 1: or he was going to be forced to do things
- 19:57Speaker 1: to help the distribution of banana fish, which I thought
- 20:00Speaker 1: was a pretty good chance because I know of that
- 20:03Speaker 1: fucking weird trope where like the main character or a
- 20:06Speaker 1: character like is evil but they're not really evil but
- 20:08Speaker 1: it looks like they are, and then there's this whole
- 20:10Speaker 1: big conflict. I'll talk about that more at the end
- 20:12Speaker 1: of the episode. But yeah, so I was like pretty
- 20:15Speaker 1: pleased with myself for getting this right, but yeah, this
- 20:18Speaker 1: is fucking terrible, and I feel terrible for Ash obviously.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Next we see Max and Shunichi at a bar with
- 20:25Speaker 1: like red filter, like it's really red in the bar.
- 20:28Speaker 1: It's nice. Schunici says fired, Huh, that's too bad, aw,
- 20:32Speaker 1: because you gave all your documents to Ash so we
- 20:35Speaker 1: could save his boyfriend anyway. Max says, I can't really
- 20:39Speaker 1: blame them. I ruined everything. He takes a sip of
- 20:43Speaker 1: his drink. Shunisi's like, but you don't have to give
- 20:46Speaker 1: up yet. Max says, what Shinici continues, there's gotta be
- 20:50Speaker 1: another approach. Max looks down and he's like, another approach,
- 20:55Speaker 1: I mean, probably right. We hear the TV in the
- 20:58Speaker 1: background and there's a news and he's like, Dino Golsen
- 21:01Speaker 1: has been cleared of his extensive tax evasion suspicions. Max
- 21:05Speaker 1: looks up at the TV. On the TV we see
- 21:08Speaker 1: like what looked like reporters kind of all grouped around,
- 21:10Speaker 1: like they're on the side of a building and they're
- 21:12Speaker 1: like taking pictures and shit, and the headline at the
- 21:15Speaker 1: bottom of the screen says, Dino f Golesening suspected of
- 21:18Speaker 1: tax evasion. Courts decide not to prosecute. To be fair,
- 21:22Speaker 1: he was not committing tax fraud. That was Ash. But
- 21:26Speaker 1: still I guess it's not great that he isn't gonna
- 21:30Speaker 1: get in trouble because he's a bad dude anyway. Max says,
- 21:34Speaker 1: damn that lucky bastard. Then his eyes widen. We cut
- 21:38Speaker 1: back to the TV and we see Dino, some guy
- 21:41Speaker 1: I don't know who he is, and Gregory. They're like
- 21:43Speaker 1: walking past these reporters and Ash is with them. Fuck
- 21:48Speaker 1: Max stands and he's like Ash. We cuts to a
- 21:51Speaker 1: black car driving in the city, obviously, and we hear
- 21:56Speaker 1: Dino say tonight's figure wasn't bad at all. Inside the car,
- 22:00Speaker 1: Ash is sitting with Dino, obviously, and he looks like
- 22:05Speaker 1: really weird, like something is going on with his eyes,
- 22:09Speaker 1: Like he looks stressed or terrified. Terrified is probably the
- 22:13Speaker 1: right word. And he has his hands like partially on
- 22:19Speaker 1: his face. I mean, the eye thing is just really odd,
- 22:22Speaker 1: like maybe they look dilated or something, something is wrong
- 22:25Speaker 1: with them. Dino says, your site will return within the hour.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Fuck the drug I gave you makes your pupils dilate.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I couldn't take the risk, no hard feelings. He's looking
- 22:38Speaker 1: out the window now and he says, one day I'll
- 22:40Speaker 1: give this city to you. We see that they're like
- 22:42Speaker 1: near Time Square and there's brightly lit billboards and that
- 22:45Speaker 1: kind of stuff, and Dino continues, it's a sea of
- 22:50Speaker 1: confusion and chaos, suitable place for a great demon to
- 22:53Speaker 1: rain over. What we now see Times Square through a
- 23:00Speaker 1: perspective and it's just super out of focus. So quick
- 23:04Speaker 1: note on that. I'm sure you know if you've ever
- 23:07Speaker 1: had an eye examination, that there is a drug that
- 23:10Speaker 1: you can drop in someone's eyes that dilates their pupils.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I think, and we'll see this a little bit going forward,
- 23:16Speaker 1: but like it doesn't quite work this way. The way
- 23:19Speaker 1: that we saw Ash's perspective, you know, kind of makes sense.
- 23:23Speaker 1: But the problem is that what happens when your pupils dilate, obviously,
- 23:28Speaker 1: is they get bigger, so your eye doctor can like
- 23:30Speaker 1: look in them and stuff, so they're just permanently big.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I mean while the drug is active and the way
- 23:37Speaker 1: eyes work obviously, you know, like your pupils get smaller
- 23:41Speaker 1: the lighter it is, and if they can't contract, like
- 23:45Speaker 1: it's hard to see things, like it's blurry, it's unfocused,
- 23:48Speaker 1: and it hurts. So this doesn't kind of totally work.
- 23:52Speaker 1: At nights, Ash probably wouldn't notice very much of a difference.
- 23:56Speaker 1: But the way that this drug that I probably should
- 23:59Speaker 1: looked up what was called works it is a little
- 24:02Speaker 1: bit different depending on the individual. And I know that
- 24:06Speaker 1: individuals who are younger and have lighter colored eyes, it
- 24:10Speaker 1: has a bigger effect on them. So Ash does fit
- 24:13Speaker 1: the bill of someone who would be pretty affected by
- 24:16Speaker 1: the pupil dilation stuff. But he'd still probably be able
- 24:20Speaker 1: to see because it's so dark. But I still think
- 24:22Speaker 1: it's a really cool idea of something to keep him
- 24:26Speaker 1: from trying to run away. And as a character who
- 24:30Speaker 1: relies on himself and his senses to stay safe, it's
- 24:34Speaker 1: got to be really, really terrifying for him. Okay, So
- 24:39Speaker 1: we now cut to just the cutest robin, an American
- 24:44Speaker 1: robin on a tree varranch, and it's chirping. It's like
- 24:48Speaker 1: outside of a window, and then it flies away and
- 24:51Speaker 1: we ship the focus to the window and we can
- 24:54Speaker 1: see that Ash is on the other side of it,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and he's at a desk on the computer. Pretty sure
- 24:59Speaker 1: he's lo this room. We see him typing, and then
- 25:04Speaker 1: I guess we're trying to do a montage pass his
- 25:07Speaker 1: time stuff. So then he's standing and he's like looking
- 25:09Speaker 1: at some book and then typing again, and then he's
- 25:12Speaker 1: talking at a board meeting and typing again, and then
- 25:15Speaker 1: he just kind of stops and stares at the screen blankly.
- 25:21Speaker 1: We go to an exterior shot of the mansion. Now
- 25:23Speaker 1: this is a new mansion. It's not the one from
- 25:25Speaker 1: episode one that was burned down. I like that one better.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I think this one is just okay looking. It doesn't
- 25:31Speaker 1: have any cool front stuff like a fountain or anything,
- 25:33Speaker 1: but whatever. We hear Blanca say, I'm thinking of leaving tomorrow.
- 25:38Speaker 1: He is sitting across from Dino in what I think
- 25:40Speaker 1: is Dino's office. Probably, he continues, I've seen all the
- 25:45Speaker 1: plays I wanted to see. There's really no reason for
- 25:47Speaker 1: me to stay any longer. Dino's like, that's too bad.
- 25:51Speaker 1: That tax evasion case was settled the other day, and
- 25:55Speaker 1: I hope you'd attend a party. I'm planning to celebrate it.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Blanca shrugs and he's like, oh, I wish I could.
- 26:01Speaker 1: By the way, how's he doing? Dino makes a pretty
- 26:06Speaker 1: unhappy sounding noise, and then the door to the office
- 26:10Speaker 1: opens and we see Ash from the back, and there's
- 26:14Speaker 1: a guy standing next to him, and he's like, here
- 26:15Speaker 1: he is. When we cut to a front view of Ash,
- 26:18Speaker 1: he looks like death warmed over, basically like I don't
- 26:23Speaker 1: think I've ever seen him look this bad before. I mean,
- 26:26Speaker 1: he just looks so weak. I guess. He takes like
- 26:32Speaker 1: a step or two and doesn't say anything. A Blanc
- 26:35Speaker 1: is like hey. He then kind of sways a little bit.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Maybe he tries to take another step and he just
- 26:44Speaker 1: collapses forward. Blanca runs and catches him before he hits
- 26:48Speaker 1: the ground. Thank god that someone cares enough to do that,
- 26:52Speaker 1: and he like lays him out on the floor and
- 26:55Speaker 1: he's like, get his doctor quickly. We cut to Ash
- 27:00Speaker 1: laying in bed. He's kind of looking away from the
- 27:04Speaker 1: room towards the window, so we don't see his face,
- 27:07Speaker 1: but it's important to note that there is an ivy
- 27:10Speaker 1: near him, so that's not really a good sign. And
- 27:13Speaker 1: Dino's like, he's been living on an iv for a
- 27:16Speaker 1: week now, but there's only so much an ivy can do.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Fuck what. Blanca walks over to Ash and we can
- 27:24Speaker 1: see Ash's face now though he's still turned away, and
- 27:26Speaker 1: he looks pissed. Blanc is like, what's wrong? This is
- 27:31Speaker 1: so unlike you. Ash says, get out. Seeing your face
- 27:35Speaker 1: pisses me off. Blanca does what I was really hoping
- 27:39Speaker 1: Blanco would never do, which is grab Ash by the
- 27:42Speaker 1: chin and he turns his face towards him, which is
- 27:44Speaker 1: not okay. And this is the second time this has
- 27:46Speaker 1: happened in this episode. Stop touching Ash. Ash is surprised
- 27:49Speaker 1: and honestly, probably a little bit scared, and he pulls
- 27:52Speaker 1: away and he's like, get your hands off of me.
- 27:54Speaker 1: He slaps his hand away. Blanca's face is like, I
- 28:00Speaker 1: can't really, I don't know how to describe it. He
- 28:02Speaker 1: just looks like a parent watching their child act out,
- 28:06Speaker 1: kind of, and he's just like, you need to take
- 28:08Speaker 1: care of yourself. Ash looks away again. We cut to
- 28:12Speaker 1: the hallway where Dino and Blanca are standing I guess
- 28:15Speaker 1: maybe outside of the room, and Dino says, I thought
- 28:19Speaker 1: it was a hunger strike at first, so I just
- 28:21Speaker 1: let him, but he held out for so long that
- 28:23Speaker 1: I had to force feed him, and he just couldn't
- 28:25Speaker 1: keep anything down. What the doctor said it might be
- 28:29Speaker 1: due to having such a stark quick change in his environment,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I don't think so well. I mean kind of, yes.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Blanc is like, you don't need a physician, you need
- 28:40Speaker 1: a psychiatrist. You are correct, Yes, Ash definitely needs a
- 28:45Speaker 1: psychiatrist or a psychologist. Dino, who was looking out the window,
- 28:50Speaker 1: turns to Blanca and he's like, what Blanca says, it's
- 28:54Speaker 1: not so much of a problem that he's just refusing
- 28:56Speaker 1: to eat. But it doesn't really seem to be the
- 28:58Speaker 1: case to me. If this continues. We cut to a
- 29:02Speaker 1: mouse hanging out and sniffing some crumbs between some boxes
- 29:06Speaker 1: on the floor, and we hear Singh say, I heard
- 29:09Speaker 1: from mister Yuey Loan's close advisor that Goldene's gonna host
- 29:12Speaker 1: a party at some hotel to celebrate his victory over
- 29:14Speaker 1: the tax of Asian charges. We see that the room
- 29:18Speaker 1: is full of ashes Gang. Ag is also there, and
- 29:22Speaker 1: of course Sing, I think we've seen this kind of
- 29:25Speaker 1: hideout area before. It was when Singh first found ashes Gang.
- 29:30Speaker 1: So it's like dirty, just like gross little room, just
- 29:33Speaker 1: lit by an oil lamp. I have no idea where
- 29:35Speaker 1: this is supposed to be. I assume it's just in
- 29:37Speaker 1: an abandoned building that they like hang out in or
- 29:40Speaker 1: maybe live in. I really don't understand, guys anyway, sing says,
- 29:44Speaker 1: this is our only chance. AG's like, he probably won't
- 29:48Speaker 1: have many body cards during the party. Bone Size and
- 29:52Speaker 1: Alex is like, but we don't even know when it's
- 29:54Speaker 1: gonna be sing says, well, I'll get that out of
- 29:57Speaker 1: mister Yuey long. You guys just think of a way
- 30:00Speaker 1: to sneak in. He starts walking to the exit with Looe,
- 30:03Speaker 1: who was also there, and he continues, this time, we
- 30:07Speaker 1: can't count on Ash being able to help us out.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Kng's like, why not. Alex says, he'll be out in public.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I'm sure they're gonna have something done to him. Bones
- 30:17Speaker 1: and Kanng both look kind of stressed and they sigh,
- 30:21Speaker 1: and Age's like, don't worry, I'm not gonna let anyone
- 30:24Speaker 1: lay a finger on Ash, Ah saying looks surprised for
- 30:28Speaker 1: a second, and then he's like, I'm counting on you,
- 30:31Speaker 1: see ya, and he and Loo leave. Ag says Alex.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Alex looks at him, he continues, can you give me
- 30:40Speaker 1: a gun before we move any further. I just wanted
- 30:46Speaker 1: to acknowledge that it feels a little bit weird that
- 30:48Speaker 1: they knew that Ash is out doing stuff, you know.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I mean, maybe they saw the news thing where he
- 30:58Speaker 1: was walking around, but again we missed the scene where
- 31:03Speaker 1: Singh saw him get into Dino's car because he just
- 31:08Speaker 1: happened to be in the area when they were leaving
- 31:10Speaker 1: the opera and he tried to get his attention and
- 31:12Speaker 1: he couldn't and he was like they did something to
- 31:14Speaker 1: his eyes. So that's why they know that he might
- 31:16Speaker 1: not be able to help them, and that he is
- 31:18Speaker 1: being paraded around in public, so he'd probably be at
- 31:21Speaker 1: the party just to clear that up case you didn't
- 31:24Speaker 1: get it, because it wasn't in there. So we go
- 31:26Speaker 1: to a hotel hallway. There's a door to one of
- 31:30Speaker 1: the rooms open and there's one of those cleaning carts
- 31:32Speaker 1: in front of it, and we hear a woman laugh
- 31:34Speaker 1: and go, oh mister. So there's a cleaning woman and
- 31:38Speaker 1: she's sitting on the side of a bathtub that Blanca
- 31:42Speaker 1: is in. He's like taking a bubble bath, and the
- 31:43Speaker 1: woman says, you're such a smooth talker. Blanca is like,
- 31:49Speaker 1: I mean it, You're really beautiful. The woman moves in
- 31:53Speaker 1: and caresses his face and says, well, thank you. They're
- 31:58Speaker 1: like freight about to kill yes, and then ue Lung
- 32:02Speaker 1: is just like, excuse me, and we see that he's
- 32:05Speaker 1: standing in the bathroom with his arms crossed. They both
- 32:08Speaker 1: look over like what the fuck me too, and ue
- 32:10Speaker 1: Lung continues, how could you after you made such passionate
- 32:15Speaker 1: love to me last night? He's like really playing it up.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Blanca looks shocked, and ue Lung says, and you're seducing
- 32:22Speaker 1: a woman today. He turns away and he covers his
- 32:25Speaker 1: face and there's also like sparkles and stuff, and he's like,
- 32:28Speaker 1: were you just playing with me? And he fake cries
- 32:31Speaker 1: how cruel. The woman looks back at Blanca and she
- 32:35Speaker 1: is not thrilled, and Blanca's like, no, this is a misunderstanding.
- 32:40Speaker 1: But she just kind of huffs and starts to walk away,
- 32:42Speaker 1: and Blanca is like, no, wait, and ue Lung stops
- 32:45Speaker 1: fake crying and sticks his tongue out of Blanca. Blanca
- 32:49Speaker 1: is so confused and he's just like, damn you, and
- 32:53Speaker 1: Ui Lung says, damn your taste is that the kind
- 32:57Speaker 1: of woman you go for. Blanca is now in a robe,
- 33:01Speaker 1: so I guess. It's a little bit later and he's
- 33:02Speaker 1: pouring some champagne and he says, I love all women.
- 33:06Speaker 1: They're beautiful and strong like life itself. Oh thank you.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Yuilung is sitting, I guess, on a couch and he's like,
- 33:14Speaker 1: was Natasha like that too? Blanca looks up. He doesn't
- 33:18Speaker 1: look happy. What did you say? Uilung says, Natalia Carsavina,
- 33:26Speaker 1: the woman who was your wife. You were a former
- 33:29Speaker 1: SPETSNA Special Agent Lieutenant Sergei Varishkov. He's smiling slightly. Your
- 33:36Speaker 1: code name Blanka was your wife's nickname. She was from Belarus,
- 33:41Speaker 1: from the Republic of Kazakhstan of the Soviet Union. You
- 33:44Speaker 1: entered Moscow University at eighteen, and then after your military
- 33:48Speaker 1: service joined SPETSNAS. Everything else is unknown. Quick side note, SPETSNAS,
- 33:53Speaker 1: if you don't know, is Russian special Forces. It is
- 33:56Speaker 1: kind of what the KGB was to the Soviet Union.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Just so you're aware. Blanca exhales, and he's like, you
- 34:04Speaker 1: did your research. Well. He walks over. Uelung says, you
- 34:09Speaker 1: were on the road to becoming a top a lade
- 34:11Speaker 1: in the military. Why are you in exile? Blanca puts
- 34:15Speaker 1: his hand on the couch next to yue Lung and
- 34:18Speaker 1: leans over him. The only ones who know about my
- 34:21Speaker 1: past are the machere and you. Now. Yuelun kind of
- 34:25Speaker 1: pauses and then says, are you gonna kill me? Seem
- 34:29Speaker 1: like you want it. Blanca smiles, of course not. He
- 34:34Speaker 1: hands Uelung some champagne. That's not what you came all
- 34:38Speaker 1: this way to tell me, is it? What is it
- 34:40Speaker 1: you wish, mister yue Lung. Ue Lung says, I heard
- 34:44Speaker 1: you going back. I invited you to dinner numerous times,
- 34:48Speaker 1: and you never came. Isn't that a bit cool? I
- 34:52Speaker 1: told you I wasn't gonna give up. Blanka's like, fine,
- 34:56Speaker 1: you win. I'll hear what you have to say, and
- 34:58Speaker 1: then he kisses his hand as you wish, young sir.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Ue Lung's like, forgive me for doing this to you.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Blanca says, it's nothing. He stands up and walks through
- 35:09Speaker 1: the side of the room again, and uie Lng says,
- 35:13Speaker 1: by the way, have you seen Ash You went to
- 35:15Speaker 1: the Matuer's mansion right? Blanc is like you already know everything.
- 35:20Speaker 1: He kind of smiles in a pain sort of way
- 35:23Speaker 1: and continues. Ash hates me now, uie Lung says, do
- 35:27Speaker 1: you regret it? Blanca pauses and he's like, no, really, dude,
- 35:34Speaker 1: fuck you. We go to Ash. Here, we go asleep
- 35:38Speaker 1: in bed, and we hear the door open and there
- 35:42Speaker 1: are some footsteps and he opens his eyes. Okay, he
- 35:45Speaker 1: probably wasn't actually asleep. Dino is standing at his bedside
- 35:49Speaker 1: and Dino says, do you really want to get away
- 35:52Speaker 1: from me this badly? Ash just kind of stares at
- 35:56Speaker 1: him like he is surprised. That's something that some and
- 36:00Speaker 1: would ask him right now. Dino then grabs him by
- 36:04Speaker 1: the collar and pulls him up and he's like, are
- 36:06Speaker 1: you trying to die your way out? Ash says, I'm
- 36:11Speaker 1: not doing this on purpose. Deno's like, oh, you can
- 36:14Speaker 1: finally speak, and he like throws him back down on
- 36:17Speaker 1: the bed like hard, and it kind of looks like
- 36:19Speaker 1: it hurts, and he continues, if you're sick, I will
- 36:22Speaker 1: get you the best treatment available. But if this is
- 36:25Speaker 1: you trying to die to escape, that Japanese boy is
- 36:29Speaker 1: going to be falling right in your footsteps. Ash looks
- 36:32Speaker 1: away and says, I never even thought about it, not once.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Deno's like, good, I'm planning a large gathering soon at
- 36:42Speaker 1: a first class hotel. He starts to walk away. I'll
- 36:45Speaker 1: make it official. Then he stops and turns back. Then
- 36:48Speaker 1: I'm adopting you what. Ash's face rises in like subtle shock,
- 36:55Speaker 1: and I think he like inhales sharply. This is really bad,
- 36:59Speaker 1: and Deno can tinues, you will become mine in substance
- 37:02Speaker 1: and in name. Gross you'll become my successor my slave.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Oh god. Ash's face is still like frozen in shock,
- 37:12Speaker 1: and we have this weird like super close up shot
- 37:14Speaker 1: where you see like most of his face, but like
- 37:17Speaker 1: it's kind of cut off at his forehead. I don't
- 37:19Speaker 1: really know how to explain it. It's really good, though,
- 37:21Speaker 1: and he looks fucking scared of shit, and he says,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to call you my father. We cut
- 37:33Speaker 1: back to Dino as Ash lets out a chuckle. Dino
- 37:39Speaker 1: kind of blinks in confusion, and Ash says, that is
- 37:44Speaker 1: the most grotesque joke I have ever heard. A smirk
- 37:49Speaker 1: returns to his face. I thought you only thought of
- 37:53Speaker 1: me as your sex toy. Dino is now fully facing
- 37:57Speaker 1: Ash because he had, you know, been about to leave,
- 38:00Speaker 1: and Ash getting really really animated now because this is
- 38:03Speaker 1: animation so it works, says, remember that guy used to
- 38:07Speaker 1: round up kids. He stands, he rapes me over and
- 38:11Speaker 1: over again, and then do you know what he asked me?
- 38:14Speaker 1: Dano like really doesn't look happy, and Ash continues. He says,
- 38:18Speaker 1: does that hurt? Kid? Does that hurt? What a fucking joke?
- 38:23Speaker 1: Like he thought I didn't feel anything, like I wasn't
- 38:25Speaker 1: even a living thing to him. It's the same with
- 38:28Speaker 1: you and Kippard and all the rest of them. You
- 38:31Speaker 1: think the only reason you have a brain is to
- 38:33Speaker 1: learn how to suck dick, flushing your semen whenever you
- 38:36Speaker 1: like it. It's like I'm your toilet. He looks fucking insane,
- 38:40Speaker 1: by the way, and he starts to laugh like hard,
- 38:43Speaker 1: like he's swaying from laughter, and he continues, I've never
- 38:47Speaker 1: heard anything so funny in my entire fucking life. I
- 38:50Speaker 1: just can't stop laughing. This must be the American dream, right.
- 38:54Speaker 1: He then like literally like tosses himself on the floor
- 38:57Speaker 1: and he's like rolling around laughing. Dino is just like
- 39:01Speaker 1: shut up. Ash on the floor with his hand over
- 39:05Speaker 1: his eyes, smiling, is like, sorry, but I really don't
- 39:10Speaker 1: think I can. I think I'm probably gonna laugh myself
- 39:12Speaker 1: silly first, So I don't think I'm gonna have a
- 39:14Speaker 1: little up to your expectations. And when my brain stops working,
- 39:19Speaker 1: am I just gonna go back to using my body
- 39:22Speaker 1: to being a living toilet? Ha? Dad? Fuck. Dino fucking
- 39:26Speaker 1: just kicks him in the face at this point, and
- 39:29Speaker 1: like we get like a nice blood splatter on the carpet.
- 39:33Speaker 1: His Ash's lip is now bleeding, and Ash turns his
- 39:36Speaker 1: head back towards Dino because it has been kicked to
- 39:38Speaker 1: the other side and he says, don't be so rough, dad.
- 39:42Speaker 1: You can't screw a broken sex toy, can you fuck.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Dino just like gets on top of him and just
- 39:49Speaker 1: starts punching the shit out of him, and some guy
- 39:52Speaker 1: opens the door and he's like, michere, please calm down,
- 39:54Speaker 1: and he like pulls Dino off of Ash, and Dino
- 39:57Speaker 1: and this guy and some other random woman are just
- 39:59Speaker 1: like standing there for a minute, his ashes laid out
- 40:01Speaker 1: on the floor, and then they start to walk out
- 40:04Speaker 1: of the room and Dino stops and he's like, you
- 40:07Speaker 1: were born a vulgar prostitute, but I'll turn you into
- 40:10Speaker 1: a chaste wife. Fuck. They leave Ash on the ground, obviously,
- 40:17Speaker 1: and he just looks so fucking done. So I mean,
- 40:23Speaker 1: that was a scene, right, that was That was a lot.
- 40:28Speaker 1: We can talk about that at the end. The next
- 40:31Speaker 1: thing we see is sing ringing a doorbell, and I
- 40:34Speaker 1: guess into like an intercom he says, it's me, mister Yuelung.
- 40:38Speaker 1: We kind of get the impression that someone walks up
- 40:40Speaker 1: behind him, because like it casts a shadow over him,
- 40:43Speaker 1: and we hear Blanca say hello, saying turns back in shock,
- 40:47Speaker 1: and he thinks he's huge, and he says, hey, don't
- 40:51Speaker 1: just stand behind me like that, you block in the
- 40:52Speaker 1: sun actually really like Sing. Blanca is like oh, and
- 40:56Speaker 1: he moves over. Sorry. Sing thinks he's giant, but I
- 41:00Speaker 1: didn't even send him coming. Who is he? Some guy
- 41:03Speaker 1: opens the door and he's like, oh, Blanca, are you
- 41:05Speaker 1: here too? And Sing thinks Blanca. That guy is like
- 41:10Speaker 1: this way and he leads them inside, and then we
- 41:12Speaker 1: hear like two gun shots and this dude in like
- 41:14Speaker 1: a chef's uniform like runs across a balcony above them
- 41:17Speaker 1: and he aims a gun at them, and Blanca is like,
- 41:20Speaker 1: stand back, and he pulls out a gun and he
- 41:22Speaker 1: shoots the gun out of the guy's hand like by
- 41:24Speaker 1: shooting his hands and stuff. And Sing throws his rope
- 41:28Speaker 1: dart and gets it around the guy's neck and Blanca
- 41:30Speaker 1: is like, don't kill him. Sing lets him go, but
- 41:33Speaker 1: the guy falls over anyway, and he's like bleeding from
- 41:36Speaker 1: his mouth. They rush over and Blanca is like, no use,
- 41:40Speaker 1: he bit a poison capsule. Fuck. We go to Yue Lung,
- 41:43Speaker 1: who is sitting on a couch holding his left arm,
- 41:48Speaker 1: and one of his attendants is like, the doctor's on
- 41:51Speaker 1: his way Blanca kind of runs in and he's like
- 41:54Speaker 1: looking at his arm and he's like he shot you
- 41:56Speaker 1: up close. He touches Ue Lung's like his shoulder and
- 42:00Speaker 1: Yuiluing flinches, and Blanca says, did you know him? Yui
- 42:04Speaker 1: Lung's like he's the cook I hired last month. He
- 42:08Speaker 1: kind of recoils in pain. Blanca says, bear with me,
- 42:11Speaker 1: and he's like dressing his wound with some sort of
- 42:14Speaker 1: I don't know bandage or material. Anyway, he continues, he
- 42:18Speaker 1: was a hired pro. Any idea who he worked for.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Ui Lung's like could be anyone. I wouldn't know. Sing says,
- 42:27Speaker 1: they're saying your brothers were killed by the Vietnamese because
- 42:30Speaker 1: someone's spreading rumors. Yuelung stands and walks over to Sing
- 42:35Speaker 1: and is like, shut up, I never called for you. Leave.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Blanc is like now now, and he puts a coat
- 42:43Speaker 1: over Youelung's shoulders, and he says he tried to stop
- 42:45Speaker 1: the culpri too. Yueilung huffs and turns away and Sing
- 42:49Speaker 1: sticks out his tongue, and then we cut to Uelung
- 42:52Speaker 1: in bed in like a robe, Blanca standing next to
- 42:55Speaker 1: him and Sing kind of leaning on the window frame
- 42:58Speaker 1: on the side of the room. Ue Lung says, forgive
- 43:01Speaker 1: me for dragging you into this. I didn't plan on
- 43:04Speaker 1: this happening. Blanc is like, you have too many enemies
- 43:07Speaker 1: for a person of your age. Uey Lung says, I
- 43:10Speaker 1: was just born under the wrong stars. Blanca says, I understand.
- 43:15Speaker 1: I'll make a deal with you. Ue Lung's eyes widen
- 43:18Speaker 1: and he's like really, and he kind of blushes slightly.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Blanca says, under one condition, my job will only be
- 43:25Speaker 1: to protect you. Huh. I will not kill otherwise, but
- 43:29Speaker 1: I won't tolerate anyone who means you harm you. Alung smiles,
- 43:33Speaker 1: even if it's ash Geez Sing gulps. Blanc is like,
- 43:37Speaker 1: of course. Sing's like, sorry to butt in, but who
- 43:40Speaker 1: the hell are you you Along says stay out of this, Sing,
- 43:44Speaker 1: this is none of your business, and Blanc is like,
- 43:46Speaker 1: I'm just a bodyguard. This point, the credits start up
- 43:51Speaker 1: and Blanc is like saying something about the party, but
- 43:55Speaker 1: like it's not translated for some reason, at least it's
- 43:57Speaker 1: not in my comfort or where I was watching this,
- 44:02Speaker 1: And then he says something like, won't you go it's
- 44:05Speaker 1: on the twentieth, you alone, says I'll go the machere
- 44:08Speaker 1: said he had a surprise. Fuck. Sing's eyes narrow and
- 44:12Speaker 1: he thinks the twentieth. Yeah. At this point, the ending
- 44:16Speaker 1: theme starts up. He cuts to Dino and Blanca standing
- 44:19Speaker 1: at Ash's bedside. Dino's like, you were right. It's a
- 44:23Speaker 1: case of acute anorexia. That's what the psychiatrist said. He's
- 44:29Speaker 1: not eating because he doesn't want to eat. Or what
- 44:31Speaker 1: are we doing here? Blanc is like it's like watching
- 44:36Speaker 1: a wild beast dying, refusing any help from humans. What
- 44:39Speaker 1: the fuck? Blanca? Dino's like, I won't let him die.
- 44:44Speaker 1: He's being treated by the best there is. Really you
- 44:48Speaker 1: what your doctors who you know work on and imprisoned
- 44:53Speaker 1: sex live, They're the best they are. Huh. Sure, I
- 44:56Speaker 1: believe that he continues. But if he's still and be mine,
- 45:00Speaker 1: I'll be the one to send him to his grave.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Blanca says Micheur, I've signed a contract with mister Yue Lung.
- 45:08Speaker 1: They're sitting in an office now. Dino says what Blanc
- 45:13Speaker 1: is like, he discovered my past. The Chinese have a
- 45:15Speaker 1: formidable network. Diino says, I see, I trust that you
- 45:20Speaker 1: won't let your emotions take control of you. Serge Blanc
- 45:24Speaker 1: is like, of course not. We cut to Sing and
- 45:27Speaker 1: Ashes gang in that's hide out type place. Singh says,
- 45:32Speaker 1: these are the two escape routes. We'll use them as
- 45:35Speaker 1: a situation demands. We have thirty minutes before the cops come.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Alex is like, but we don't know the uptown streets
- 45:42Speaker 1: very well. And we hear someone say leave that to me,
- 45:46Speaker 1: and they look up and Alex is like, kine yay.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Kine is in the doorway and sing is like, good,
- 45:53Speaker 1: you're finally here. Kane smiles. Awesome, I missed Kane, Singh says,
- 45:58Speaker 1: and the plans were sneaking in ag She's like all set.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Then we cutch to Dino looking out the window and
- 46:05Speaker 1: he turns as he hears the door open and it's
- 46:07Speaker 1: some guy Gregory and Ash in a wheelchair. Just great, sure,
- 46:13Speaker 1: and Gregory says he's ready, and we cut to a
- 46:16Speaker 1: closer shot of Ash and he looks real bad, like
- 46:20Speaker 1: no pupils, real bad, like the light in his eyes
- 46:22Speaker 1: is gone, real bad, like maybe he's given up. Maybe
- 46:25Speaker 1: this is it, maybe they've finally broken him. Real bad.
- 46:27Speaker 1: It's not good. It's definitely the worst I've ever seen him. Look,
- 46:32Speaker 1: he just looks gone, but maybe he's dissociating and everything's okay, yay,
- 46:40Speaker 1: that's totally fine. Dino says, come my son, and then
- 46:44Speaker 1: we go to the title card Ice Palace. Oh my god,
- 46:49Speaker 1: and that's it. Yay. Closing thoughts. So, I don't even
- 46:53Speaker 1: know where to start with this episode, because that was
- 46:55Speaker 1: a lot, so some easy stuff that I wanted to
- 46:59Speaker 1: get out of the way. I fucking hate the whole
- 47:02Speaker 1: let's change the name of locations and countries and groups
- 47:06Speaker 1: of people thing that they're doing with the Middle East,
- 47:10Speaker 1: with the Maliban and Cafghanistan. It's really frustrating. So I
- 47:15Speaker 1: wanted to point out that this is anime exclusive. Obviously
- 47:19Speaker 1: in the manga we just talk about real places. But
- 47:21Speaker 1: in the manga we're talking about South America. So the
- 47:26Speaker 1: place that they want to destroy and put a puppet
- 47:29Speaker 1: government in is Honduras because apparently at the time it
- 47:33Speaker 1: was a really big I guess, cocaine transporting area, so
- 47:38Speaker 1: it would be really good to get a handle on
- 47:40Speaker 1: the cocaine market. Obviously that doesn't work as much. In
- 47:42Speaker 1: the twenty tens, Heroin makes a little bit more sense
- 47:45Speaker 1: for now than cocaine does, just because of the way
- 47:50Speaker 1: drug tastes have changed, I guess, But yeah, I don't
- 47:53Speaker 1: like that, Like, this is clearly what you're talking about,
- 47:55Speaker 1: but we can't say the exact word because we don't
- 47:58Speaker 1: want to offend people in the Middle East, like this
- 48:01Speaker 1: is fiction. I'm pretty sure you could say the country,
- 48:04Speaker 1: but whatever. So we got that going on at the beginning.
- 48:09Speaker 1: We had that really cool parallel between Ag and Ash
- 48:13Speaker 1: because in the last episode we saw Ash go like,
- 48:18Speaker 1: he cares about me, so I'm gonna do anything for him,
- 48:21Speaker 1: kind of deal. And in this episode we hear AG say, well,
- 48:23Speaker 1: that's just because Ash cares about me as much as
- 48:25Speaker 1: I care about him, which I thought was amazing, like
- 48:28Speaker 1: a really nice parallel to show that they kind of
- 48:31Speaker 1: understand each other and that they both really care about
- 48:33Speaker 1: each other. So I love that. And that brings me
- 48:37Speaker 1: to this research that I did this episode where I
- 48:40Speaker 1: watched episodes eighteen through twenty two of Fushigi Yugi, which
- 48:45Speaker 1: I don't know if you've seen before, obviously I don't
- 48:47Speaker 1: even know you, but it's this show Jo. I think
- 48:52Speaker 1: I think the adaptation is like late nineties. I don't
- 48:55Speaker 1: one hundred percent sure. It's not a very good adaptation,
- 48:58Speaker 1: to be fair, but there's an arc in it that
- 49:00Speaker 1: I was thinking about when I was watching this for
- 49:02Speaker 1: the first time, and now where one of the main characters.
- 49:06Speaker 1: I'm just gonna give you some spoilers. It's really not
- 49:08Speaker 1: that big of a deal for shiggy Yugi. Even if
- 49:11Speaker 1: you watched it, it would probably not ruin this experience
- 49:14Speaker 1: for you very much. So the main love interest in
- 49:17Speaker 1: Fushigi Yugi gets given a mind control drug by the
- 49:22Speaker 1: antagonist and turns evil for a little while. So that's
- 49:26Speaker 1: what I was thinking about that kind of like this
- 49:29Speaker 1: might go in that direction where you have, like I
- 49:31Speaker 1: was saying a little bit earlier, a character who is
- 49:35Speaker 1: good but for some reason they're acting in a very
- 49:38Speaker 1: bad way and it's either because of like mind control
- 49:41Speaker 1: or it's some sort of misunderstanding they have to do
- 49:45Speaker 1: something to save someone kind of deal. And I was
- 49:49Speaker 1: afraid this was going to go in that direction when
- 49:51Speaker 1: I first saw that we were gonna have like a
- 49:53Speaker 1: whole arc where everyone is like, oh my god, Ash
- 49:56Speaker 1: is like helping with banana fish now and he's e
- 50:00Speaker 1: and AG's like, I can't believe you're doing this and
- 50:03Speaker 1: all this stuff, and I was like, that would be
- 50:04Speaker 1: really out of character if everybody was suddenly like, hey,
- 50:06Speaker 1: this person who's always behaved in a certain way is
- 50:08Speaker 1: totally behaving in a different way and they must have
- 50:11Speaker 1: just changed, because that's how things work. So I was
- 50:14Speaker 1: willed when we didn't do that, especially in the manga,
- 50:16Speaker 1: because Singh had seen Ash walking around outside and I
- 50:21Speaker 1: really thought when he tried to like reach out to
- 50:25Speaker 1: him and be like, oh my god, Ash, and Ash
- 50:27Speaker 1: didn't respond. He was in the car, by the way,
- 50:28Speaker 1: so you know, it's not like they were face to face,
- 50:31Speaker 1: but when he like didn't respond to him at all
- 50:33Speaker 1: or look at him, I loved that sing was just
- 50:36Speaker 1: like something is wrong, Like something is wrong with his
- 50:39Speaker 1: eyes because I don't feel like he saw me. So
- 50:42Speaker 1: I just love that we just killed that trope before
- 50:45Speaker 1: it could exist, and that ag knowing what Ash did,
- 50:48Speaker 1: is just like, yeah, man, because he fucking cares about me,
- 50:51Speaker 1: so I gotta fucking save him. So whereas in Fushigi Ugi,
- 50:55Speaker 1: they just fucking leave Tomahomide with the bad people because
- 50:58Speaker 1: he had just tried to kill me. Yaka the main character,
- 51:01Speaker 1: you know, but he's not him anymore, and so they
- 51:04Speaker 1: just fucking leave him, and Miyaka says, Sayonada Tom Mahomade,
- 51:08Speaker 1: and I was just like, he's being held against his will,
- 51:12Speaker 1: what are you doing? And then they go back and Miyaka,
- 51:14Speaker 1: I think, tries to kill herself by walking into a pond,
- 51:18Speaker 1: or maybe she was so distraught that she didn't realize
- 51:21Speaker 1: she was walking into a pond because she heard Tom
- 51:23Speaker 1: Mahomey's voice but he wasn't there. Fucking Watching it again
- 51:27Speaker 1: made me just like wanna not ever watch it again basically,
- 51:30Speaker 1: because like, come on, this is your love interest. There
- 51:33Speaker 1: is someone that you trust above everyone else, and you
- 51:36Speaker 1: just think he snapped like that and we're just gonna
- 51:38Speaker 1: leave him bullshit. So I'm sorry about the tirade about Fushikyugi,
- 51:43Speaker 1: but like I was so again thrilled to not have
- 51:47Speaker 1: that go this way. But I feel terrible for ash because,
- 51:53Speaker 1: as we know, he would rather do anything than what
- 51:58Speaker 1: he's doing right now, to the point that he's making
- 52:00Speaker 1: himself sick. And I don't know for sure that he
- 52:03Speaker 1: isn't doing this on purpose, not eating, because like I mean,
- 52:08Speaker 1: he's being asked to help commit the murder of countless
- 52:13Speaker 1: people for the government and for the mafia to increase
- 52:19Speaker 1: their drug trade, and like, it's fucked up. So, I mean,
- 52:26Speaker 1: I get it, and mad respect for him for being
- 52:29Speaker 1: like I would rather you just have me as a
- 52:32Speaker 1: prostitute again, then put me in a situation where I'm
- 52:36Speaker 1: just contributing to the deaths of all of these people.
- 52:40Speaker 1: He doesn't want this organization, as we've heard multiple times.
- 52:44Speaker 1: He does not want to be here. He doesn't like
- 52:47Speaker 1: what this stands for, which is good because it stands
- 52:49Speaker 1: for bad things. And he certainly does not want to
- 52:52Speaker 1: be the heir apparent to the organization. So that is
- 52:58Speaker 1: fucked up too. The whole thing is fucked up. And
- 53:01Speaker 1: we can talk again about Amadeus, which was brought up again,
- 53:05Speaker 1: where you know, it seems like Dino thinks of him
- 53:10Speaker 1: as his creation, that Dino was the god, that kind
- 53:13Speaker 1: of thing. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff, and I
- 53:18Speaker 1: just feel bad. I feel really bad for him. And
- 53:22Speaker 1: I think he's an adult. He doesn't have to be adopted,
- 53:24Speaker 1: and he probably still has a dad. We don't know
- 53:25Speaker 1: if he died, but he's probably alive somewhere. Ugh, so anyway,
- 53:30Speaker 1: this is getting really rambly. The other thing I wanted
- 53:33Speaker 1: to say is, oh, since we were just talking about
- 53:37Speaker 1: Amadeus really quickly the Marriage of Figaro. I looked it
- 53:41Speaker 1: up real quick just to see what it's about, because
- 53:44Speaker 1: I don't know anything. I'm not culturally intelligent or something.
- 53:50Speaker 1: So apparently when it came out, it was very controversial
- 53:54Speaker 1: because it was about servants rising up against their masters.
- 53:59Speaker 1: So actually it's a perfect opera for Ash to like.
- 54:04Speaker 1: So I like that he likes it. But yeah, I
- 54:08Speaker 1: mean where we ended with Ash, with him just staring vacantly.
- 54:13Speaker 1: I think he's always been able to separate himself from
- 54:19Speaker 1: the actions being done to him. But I don't know
- 54:23Speaker 1: how he would separate himself from giving people ideas that
- 54:28Speaker 1: would destabilize them ad least, you know, Like, I don't
- 54:32Speaker 1: know that you can really dissociate well enough to not
- 54:37Speaker 1: realize when you're creating plans that are going to like
- 54:40Speaker 1: murder people. So this has got to be it's got
- 54:43Speaker 1: to be a lot for him. I think that I
- 54:46Speaker 1: probably said all I needed to say, Oh, except yeah,
- 54:48Speaker 1: I love Ash being able to kind of clap back
- 54:51Speaker 1: at Dino. I really think this is probably the first
- 54:53Speaker 1: time he's ever said anything like this to him, just
- 54:56Speaker 1: because of the way, you know, looked when he said it.
- 54:59Speaker 1: And I think I was shocked, But like, why are
- 55:03Speaker 1: you shocked, dude, Like you're holding him against his will.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You've been holding him against his will since he was eleven,
- 55:11Speaker 1: Like why are you shocked that he doesn't want to
- 55:14Speaker 1: do this? You know? Like I don't want to say
- 55:18Speaker 1: that Ash was that good that he was able to
- 55:23Speaker 1: fawn well enough that Dino thought that this was real,
- 55:27Speaker 1: But really Dino is just diluded. So yeah, it really
- 55:31Speaker 1: hurt him hearing that from Ash, evidently because of how
- 55:35Speaker 1: much you beat a Bash after that. And also I'm
- 55:38Speaker 1: wondering if Ash if his motivation was just that he
- 55:42Speaker 1: needed to tell him off, or if it was kind
- 55:44Speaker 1: of like almost like that thing like suicide by cop,
- 55:48Speaker 1: where you in that particular thing you do things to
- 55:51Speaker 1: antagonize a cop and hope that they shoot you. Maybe
- 55:55Speaker 1: he was like, maybe I can just get this guy
- 55:57Speaker 1: to kill me by telling him the truth. I was
- 56:00Speaker 1: gonna say, it's too bad it didn't work, but I
- 56:02Speaker 1: don't want Ash to be dead, so yeay, it didn't work. Anyway,
- 56:09Speaker 1: I'm sorry, this is so rambly. I really am not
- 56:11Speaker 1: having a great week. But I hope that this was
- 56:15Speaker 1: okay for you, because I know that this was particularly heavy,
- 56:19Speaker 1: but that's what this show is basically, and I do
- 56:23Speaker 1: think that this is being done well, I guess in
- 56:29Speaker 1: the most horrendous sort of way. Maybe. So I'm gonna
- 56:36Speaker 1: go and edit this so I can get this out
- 56:38Speaker 1: to you tomorrow and I hope you have a really
- 56:41Speaker 1: good whatever and yeah later weeps.
