- 0:00Speaker 1: The red carpet, the glitz, the glamour, the celebrity, is
- 0:03Speaker 1: the hypocrisy the Oscars. It's one more thing I'm strungy.
- 0:08Speaker 1: One more thing. We are gonna play a couple of
- 0:14Speaker 1: clips from the Oscars that we didn't play in the
- 0:16Speaker 1: radio show. None of us watched it. I don't think
- 0:18Speaker 1: did you watch it, Katie No. I used to watch
- 0:22Speaker 1: the Oscars from to back, back in the day. I
- 0:25Speaker 1: I'm reminded of the famous saying.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Was it C. S. Lewis or hl Menken or W. C.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Fields who said the opposite of love isn't hate, its indifference.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I'm very, very close to just being indifferent about the Oscars.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I don't even sure enough about it to like rail
- 0:40Speaker 2: against it.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's completely forgot they were on until this morning.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah that's exactly where I am.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm not. Yeah, I just don't care.
- 0:48Speaker 2: But I used to care.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And I find it kind of interesting that I used
- 0:50Speaker 1: to indote. Now what happened? You know what got me
- 0:53Speaker 1: off of it was when they went from five a
- 0:56Speaker 1: list of the five to ten. I just for some
- 0:58Speaker 1: reason I could no longer rap my head around the list.
- 1:00Speaker 1: So I didn't care anymore.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Just wasn't the lecturing and the sanctimony and the disgusting
- 1:06Speaker 2: display of self regard, please.
- 1:09Speaker 1: That got worse over the years, but the just the okay, well,
- 1:12Speaker 1: now it's just a laundry list of practically every movie
- 1:15Speaker 1: that came out, so whatever. But I was reading for
- 1:17Speaker 1: some reason, I got sucked into a what one and
- 1:19Speaker 1: what should have won throughout the years, And it's an
- 1:23Speaker 1: amazing some of the misses that they've had over the years.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I don't know if this is exactly right, but it's
- 1:29Speaker 1: close enough to be right. It was something like Kramer
- 1:33Speaker 1: versus Kramer won the year that Apocalypse Now came out
- 1:39Speaker 1: and the critic was saying, so two people arguing about
- 1:44Speaker 1: a divorce on screen, which nobody remembered ten minutes after
- 1:48Speaker 1: it came out, loses to you know, a top three
- 1:52Speaker 1: on every best of list of all time? I mean,
- 1:55Speaker 1: just how do you miss that? Part of it is
- 1:57Speaker 1: the politics of it. OSK, Hollywood and OSCARS is so
- 2:00Speaker 1: into politics. It was at a time for that particular topic,
- 2:03Speaker 1: the divorce was such a big issue and becoming so popular,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and blah blah blah, blah blah. They get caught up
- 2:08Speaker 1: in the moment of stuff.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Well in Meryl Streep and and what's his name, Dustin Hoffman,
- 2:16Speaker 2: you know, huge star vehicle. I also love saving Private
- 2:21Speaker 2: Ryan losing out to Shakespeare in Love absolutely hilarious.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Whatever, whatever, it's fine, it does, but it doesn't matter.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm too. I'm to the apathy point now,
- 2:30Speaker 1: we're just it doesn't flip and matter. But here's some
- 2:33Speaker 1: of the stuff that happened on the oscars last night
- 2:35Speaker 1: that we didn't see.
- 2:35Speaker 2: What should we start with? Well, and the idea being
- 2:39Speaker 2: if you boil it down to like the three most
- 2:41Speaker 2: charming or interesting minutes. Okay, great, it's the rest of
- 2:44Speaker 2: the crap. I don't want to see. Which one do
- 2:47Speaker 2: you want to start with? Michael, you've heard all of these?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Oh I don't care, you know.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I'm like you, guys, It's just it, I don't really
- 2:53Speaker 4: care that much anymore, to be honest with you.
- 2:55Speaker 2: All Right, play twelve.
- 2:56Speaker 4: We'll start with twelve.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Arnold and I are presenting there for a very obvious reason.
- 3:03Speaker 2: They both tried to kill Batman.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yeah, as the penguin in, Batman returns, and.
- 3:10Speaker 2: That was mister Freeze and Batman and Robin ut out
- 3:15Speaker 2: a window. Where is Yeah, there he is. He's right here,
- 3:26Speaker 2: he's right here. Look, you have a lot of nerve
- 3:28Speaker 2: to show you faith.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you got you.
- 3:32Speaker 2: A real breaker.
- 3:37Speaker 1: They're pointing to Michael Keaton and Batman, the original Batman a.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Bitch, Buttman.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Buttman's son of a bitch, like twice for no particular reason.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Beak breaker, you son of a bitch.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You have a lot of nerve to show your faith
- 3:53Speaker 1: around here. Oh my god, you talk about a guy
- 3:57Speaker 1: with no fs to give it to. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Oh yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 1: he did whatever he wanted. His whole life ended up
- 4:04Speaker 1: on top. He's just willing to write it out to
- 4:06Speaker 1: the grave at this point. Yeah, yeah, exactly, wealthy governor.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Whatever I'm done.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Life is strange, isn't it. Yeah, speaking of strange lives
- 4:16Speaker 2: and super heroes, you know him as Iron Man. Bob
- 4:20Speaker 2: Downey Junior thirteen.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I'd like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy
- 4:29Speaker 4: in that order. I'd like to thank my I'm a veterinarian.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I meant wife, Susan Downey over there. She found me
- 4:42Speaker 4: a snarling rescue pet, and you love me back to life.
- 4:47Speaker 2: That's why I'm here.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Oh that's nice.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I didn't get what he meant by veterinarian, but that's
- 4:51Speaker 1: what he meant.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Okay. He was a snarling rescue pet and she nursed
- 4:55Speaker 2: him back to life. That's a nice thing to say.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I feel like that was a little bit of one
- 4:59Speaker 1: of those lifetime Achievement awards. Robert Downey Junr. Was really
- 5:02Speaker 1: good in Oppenheimer, but like it's not a oh my god,
- 5:06Speaker 1: how about Robert Downey Junior and Oppenheimer sort of thing,
- 5:09Speaker 1: but he's got the body of work where they feel like, eh,
- 5:13Speaker 1: he's due.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, speaking of people being due, I believe this
- 5:18Speaker 2: was somehow a tribute to Joe Biden. They had the
- 5:21Speaker 2: ancient and barely coherent al Pacino giving the Best Picture award.
- 5:25Speaker 5: I guess this is the time for the last award
- 5:30Speaker 5: of the evening and it's my honor are present it
- 5:36Speaker 5: Ten wonderful films what nominated, but only one will take
- 5:44Speaker 5: the award for Best Picture.
- 5:48Speaker 2: And I have to go to the envelope for that.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Wow did you write that?
- 5:52Speaker 5: I will here it comes and Maria, I see Oppenheimer. Yes?
- 6:05Speaker 5: What yes, Thomas job.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, do you know why the crowd kind of
- 6:11Speaker 3: lulled there.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Well it looked to it sounded to me just as
- 6:14Speaker 1: a listener right there, like did you just announce a
- 6:16Speaker 1: winner or are you going through the list of the
- 6:17Speaker 1: movies or was that the winner?
- 6:20Speaker 3: He skipped the nominees?
- 6:21Speaker 6: Oh okay, and he just read the winner and everybody's like,
- 6:25Speaker 6: oh okay.
- 6:26Speaker 2: God hooks.
- 6:27Speaker 1: How do they fail on that so often? Well, part
- 6:29Speaker 1: of it is they get ancient people. That makes it
- 6:31Speaker 1: harder because when they when they announced the wrong one,
- 6:33Speaker 1: that was the ninety five year old Warren baby and
- 6:36Speaker 1: whoever else. Yeah, get younger people to announce Best Picture
- 6:40Speaker 1: that like can remember the very simple instructions of walk
- 6:45Speaker 1: out there, read the good word.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Hey, Michael, Michael, gets your your favorite to very short
- 6:51Speaker 2: biden clip ready, one of those super short ones you
- 6:54Speaker 2: get and the.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Winner is flat battic Cup Kurt.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Joe Geddy and Jack Armstrong producers.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Well, you get invited to the Oscars to announce Best
- 7:08Speaker 1: Picture and you're al Pacino, and I know you're a
- 7:10Speaker 1: big deal and you don't have to worry about much,
- 7:12Speaker 1: but still you picked out some clothes, a limo picktup
- 7:16Speaker 1: of your In fact, I think he lives in France
- 7:18Speaker 1: or something. She travel away to the United States. A
- 7:20Speaker 1: limo picture up at the fancy hotel. You pick out
- 7:22Speaker 1: your clothes, you gotta wait in line, you gotta do this,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you gotta do that. You never for a second considered
- 7:26Speaker 1: what you're gonna say, or thought, maybe I'll come up
- 7:28Speaker 1: with one sentence that's somewhat interesting. Well, I guess, I'll
- 7:34Speaker 1: I guess I get to announce best pictures. So, uh,
- 7:37Speaker 1: ten films, and uh.
- 7:39Speaker 3: We're gonna not announce any of.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Them, and we're gonna announce the winner now, so you open.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Only one can win.
- 7:45Speaker 3: So let's cut the crab.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Nothing, not one like joke, line, anything, the importance of film.
- 7:53Speaker 7: Nothing.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Just he sounded like he was trying to survive that.
- 7:58Speaker 2: And somebody said, all right, hell, re read the nominees,
- 8:01Speaker 2: then open the envelope, read the winner. All right, I
- 8:03Speaker 2: read the nominees. I open the envelope. I read the winner,
- 8:06Speaker 2: got it right, gone. Wouldn't he have a teleprompter? I'm
- 8:10Speaker 2: assuming yes, sure, so we just didn't look at it.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Wouldn't you prepare like at least one sentence, if not
- 8:17Speaker 1: an entire bit something about I came to Hollywood as
- 8:22Speaker 1: a young man in the late sixties, and I don't
- 8:25Speaker 1: think it's ever been in better hands than with the crowd.
- 8:27Speaker 2: We've got you something. Oh, you're making me one of them.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So I guess this thing? Why even be there?
- 8:33Speaker 1: Oh they nominated some movies, I guess.
- 8:36Speaker 2: And then you come, uh, you come to the Oscars
- 8:40Speaker 2: to hear the winner. So the winner, the winner. Yes,
- 8:43Speaker 2: we will announce the winner. Here's it.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Because I have seen this throughout the years, and I've
- 8:47Speaker 1: always wondered about this. So artists are weirdos, and you
- 8:51Speaker 1: see them in movies and you don't realize how weird
- 8:54Speaker 1: they are until you see them interviewed or something like that,
- 8:57Speaker 1: and you realize, Wow, you're like way out there. You're
- 8:59Speaker 1: not close to like a normal human being. So how
- 9:02Speaker 1: do they how do they pull off anything like normal
- 9:05Speaker 1: human being for movies when they can't in their real
- 9:08Speaker 1: life at all?
- 9:10Speaker 2: I think momentary, really intense concentration act normal.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Well, he didn't do a good job of it.
- 9:19Speaker 2: There, no, no, that was that was silly.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So yeah, let's uh open the Oppenheimer like play by play.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and again I give zero craps. But isn't that
- 9:31Speaker 2: like three the last five years, they've had an ancient
- 9:33Speaker 2: blow the best Picture. Yeah, they gotta quit, much like
- 9:36Speaker 2: our presidential elections. Can we find somebody who's like, I
- 9:38Speaker 2: don't know, sixty five to do it?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Although with the Oscars, I gotta believe, you know, the
- 9:43Speaker 1: audience has been going off a cliff for years and
- 9:45Speaker 1: years and years. It's gotta be the older crowd that's watching.
- 9:49Speaker 1: There's nobody under thirty watching the Oscars, is there? I
- 9:52Speaker 1: don't know year it'll be Charlton Heston.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I think they might have to dig him up. Godd
- 9:59Speaker 2: rest is Were we going to play one more of
- 10:02Speaker 2: the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt? I would actually like
- 10:05Speaker 2: to hear that. Yeah, go ahead, Well hang on a
- 10:07Speaker 2: second now, Ryan Gosling, he was ken right in the Barbie.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Movie, Yes, and he also won. He was in the
- 10:13Speaker 1: Best Picture that didn't win La La Land where they
- 10:16Speaker 1: all started to go upstages.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Sorry, wrong movie? All right, right? Right? And who's this
- 10:21Speaker 2: Emily Blunt?
- 10:21Speaker 5: Human?
- 10:24Speaker 2: She in one of the other movies? Does anybody know?
- 10:27Speaker 2: Anybody care?
- 10:27Speaker 1: Does it matter that's here? Yeah?
- 10:29Speaker 8: Hello Emily?
- 10:30Speaker 7: Well a bit of a frosty hello.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Didn't you know I'm just.
- 10:34Speaker 8: Happy that we can finally put this Barbenheimer rivalry behind us.
- 10:39Speaker 7: That's right, here's Ken and Kitty just leaving all that
- 10:42Speaker 7: fodder in the dust, guys, right, And the way this
- 10:45Speaker 7: award season's turned out wasn't that much of a rivalry,
- 10:48Speaker 7: So Jess.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Let it go.
- 10:52Speaker 8: So but you know, I think I kind of figured
- 10:55Speaker 8: out why they call it Barbenheimer and they didn't call
- 10:57Speaker 8: it open Barbie.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Why.
- 11:00Speaker 8: Well, I think you guys are at the tail end
- 11:01Speaker 8: of that because you were riding Barbie's coattails all summer.
- 11:08Speaker 7: Thanks for kensplaining that to me. All right, mister, I
- 11:13Speaker 7: need to paint my abs on to get nominated.
- 11:15Speaker 3: You don't see Robin did not paint his.
- 11:20Speaker 2: As This is insane, Emily. This has got to stop.
- 11:22Speaker 2: We have to squash this. Didn't I cared enough to
- 11:28Speaker 2: find it. Did he paint his ebbs on?
- 11:32Speaker 3: I've seen for the movie Barbie?
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 11:34Speaker 3: They were. They were heavily airbrushed.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I wondered about that when I saw it because I've
- 11:39Speaker 1: seen Barbie and I thought, is anybody including him that ripped?
- 11:43Speaker 3: So he he is ripped.
- 11:45Speaker 6: But they definitely went in and did some some shadowing
- 11:48Speaker 6: to make it look more like the Barbie doll.
- 11:51Speaker 2: He's portraying a doll. That's true.
- 11:54Speaker 6: Emily Blunt was apparently an Oppenheimer would so that's the wife,
- 11:58Speaker 6: the wife from op on whatever.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I'm with Joe on this.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I could not hold any Berbenheimer controversy that this rivalry.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, shut up.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Well, I guess that's it.
