• 0:07
  [upbeat music] A heart-y [laughs]
• 0:24
welcome to one and all on this pre-extortion, I mean pre-Valentine's group therapy session better known as the Weekly Dose of Fat. Open up your arms and let in your tropically clad hosts- [laughs]... Sven and Gomez.
• 0:40
[laughs] Hey, everybody. That's, uh, that's our wonderful friend JK over there, and joining me on my right is my Uncle Gomez. Hola, amigos.
• 0:53
I'd like to remind everyone that the best way to listen to the Weekly Dose of Fat is with your ears, your ears attached to your head, your head attached to your body, your body firmly planted on your bicycle.
• 1:06
I think we'd cause more accidents if people did that. Really? I always listen to the show while I ride. [laughs] It's my Friday ride. You know, I listen to the show, go for a little cruise.
• 1:16
We already welcomed JK Living, didn't we? This is not a love song. This is not a love song. This is a love song. Do we have video of that? Was I supposed to be running video? I don't know.
• 1:30
[laughs] No, speak directly into the flower and scene. [laughs] Hey, ladies and gentlemen, Fat Bike Radio and the Weekly Dose of Fat is sponsored by the helpful folks over there at Surly Bikes.
• 1:41
Surly has three words for you: bikes, parts, chaos. Learn more at surlybikes.com. Sultry. No. Hey, what's on the show this week there, uh, Sven? I heard we have a good show this week. Really?
• 1:56
Like, last week was pretty good, I thought. Yeah, I th- la- I thought last week was a champagne show. The less we talk, the better our show sounds.
• 2:05
[laughs] Hey, speaking of good sounding shows [laughs] Well, we start the show this week- [laughs]... with the Event of the Week. We welcome this week's special guest, the amazing Mr. Gene Petervary.
• 2:17
We welcome listeners from around the Fat-o-sphere to answer the question: why does it hurt when I pee?
• 2:24
We check in with the Fatty Foreign Field Report brought to you by the Winter Rush Fat Bike Series, the Michigan State Fat Bike Championships, and the 2017 USA Cycling Fat Bike National Championships.
• 2:37
And in this evening's special segment sh- sh- sh- I'm gonna eat- That's it... I'm gonna eat the microphone as I'm trying to swerve. Special segment. That's the, that's the, uh, Instagram takeover, I think.
• 2:49
I think that's our special segment. Right on. And now- And now- [laughs]... it's time for the Fat Bike Event of the Week. Booyah.
• 3:00
Yeah, this, uh, it, this is a crazy, crazy way to say this town, but- Welcome to the radio program, Devon. Oh, Devon's on the line. Hi, how you guys doing tonight? [laughs] Hey, Devon.
• 3:12
All right, I'm just j- I'm messing with Gomez over here. [laughs] Yeah, I know. [laughs] Like, he's going, and then- Why did you ha- why did you want Devon to call again?
• 3:21
Uh, th- this week's Event of the Week is, uh, Devon's little event here. It's called The Galar- Gather- The Gathering, and it's in- The Gathering... it's in Buena Vista, down- You said it right...
• 3:34
out there in Colorado, or BV as the, as the locals call it. Is that on the west side of the range? That's, that's by, that's by right by Great Sand Dunes National Monument, dude. Oh, right on.
• 3:46
Dude, tell us about that area. Tell us all about that stuff. You wanna know about, uh, BV? Well, we've got, you know, uh, we actually have a pretty cool, uh, mix of riding here.
• 3:56
We've got, uh, got Cottonwood Pass and a bunch of 14ers right next to us. Uh, on the other side of town, literally a few miles away, we have, uh, high desert, so, uh, we have a lot of, uh, uh, trail riding.
• 4:08
We have some great road riding. In the winter, it turns into excellent fat biking kinda all the way around.
• 4:13
So, um, you know, uh, we got a little bit of, uh, everything here for everybody, and that's kinda what inspired us to do our event. And it looks like this event- It's called The Gathering...
• 4:23
it, it looks like this- There can be only one. The Gathering, yes. [laughs] The Con. And any, any bike flyer that looks this good and has the word shenanigans on it, I'm in. [laughs] Hey, who did that art?
• 4:36
The art is awesome. That's really, uh, cool. Uh, that was actually my, uh, my design. Ah, you're good. I like the, I like the skull on the bottom of the shoe. Absolutely. That's a good- Oh, thanks... skull.
• 4:46
Yeah, I'm, I'm glad you noticed. There's a lot of details in here. You just kinda have to eyeball them where they are. Evel Knievel helmet. Exactly. Right on.
• 4:54
[laughs] And I, and I think you might- I used to have one of those. Yeah. Mike launched his helmet over a building, and I think it landed on your face. [laughs] And, and that nice helmet, too.
• 5:05
He's- It landed on a poster. [laughs] Well. So I think that you, your event is the first event that is, uh, leveraging or, or cross-breeding bike polo and fat bikes. Well, I, I, I certainly can't claim, uh,
• 5:23
responsibility for that. I know a lot of the guys around the state have played polo before. Yeah. All right. Uh, but, uh, uh- Here's the thing about Colorado.
• 5:32
They, they don't share with the rest of the country that well. Man. [laughs] You just, you just have to come out and experience it, and then we'll let you in on the secret. There you go. As you were saying?
• 5:41
But, but Colorado is always holding. Twist more. Twist my arm. You were so- We are always holding. [laughs] So what, what is the de- Yeah, you know, we- I actually think this came from Colorado. [laughs] God.
• 5:56
Oh, it's not our beer. That's, uh, that's- Our, our show is out of control, and I think we're, we're eight minutes in, 8:08 to stay right here- We got time to kill... on Fat Bike Radio.
• 6:06
[laughs] So what's, what's- We'll have time to right the ship. That's all right. [laughs] What's the date of, of this fabulous gathering that you're doing? Event detail.
• 6:16
The date is February 26th through the 28th, uh, which is a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the last three days of the month. Um, and, uh, you know, with the, kinda the main event gonna be on Saturday, where we have a full day.
• 6:27
I expect Friday people just be rolling in, and we're, we're kinda set up for that. And then Saturday we wanna have some stuff in the morning and let people get out if they want to.
• 6:35
But of course, you know, uh, uh, people are certainly, uh, encouraged to arrive early and leave late. Um, but, uh, yeah, so, um, yep, the, the end of February. And, uh, it's really just gonna be a good time, uh, to,
• 6:52
to get people together, you know? We, we talked forever about trying to do a race, but, you know, uh, snow, the weather's, uh, kinda tricky to plan on. So- Sure...
• 7:00
we thought we would just, uh- Yeah, we've seen that a lot here, for sure. [laughs] Right. Yeah.
• 7:04
So, you know, we, we really just wanted to get a, to have a, an event where people could just show up and, and ride bikes together and have a good time and have some beers and do fun stuff. Right.
• 7:15
Uh, so, uh, yeah, and you know, it's totally free. There's no registration. None, you know, nobody's gonna get mad if you, uh, wanna bail, uh, you know?
• 7:23
[laughs] And, you know, have anything on the line other than just come up and have a good time, so we really hope, uh, a lot of people from all over are gonna do just that.
• 7:30
So on the poster, I see we, we, we touched on shenanigans. What about the music portion of the, uh, the, the event?
• 7:38
Well, uh, [laughs] the, the music portion, you know, it's a, it, we have a, a party on Saturday at The Lariat, uh, locally known as The Rope, uh, down at the end of Main Street here, and they've got a band hired.
• 7:52
Uh, I, I have not had the pleasure of listening to them yet, but I'm sure they're excellent. So we'll just have a big, uh, costume party at The Rope, and, uh, yeah, [laughs] it should be a good time. Awesome.
• 8:05
Well, right on. Devin Dahl from Boneshaker Cycles. We're gonna have a, uh, link and a poster and, uh, every- anything else you might need to get information about this event. Right on, man. Thanks for calling in, Devin.
• 8:17
And, uh, thanks for- Yeah, thank you guys... throwing a, this is, this is a grassroots throwback. Man, you just, you just made an old man happy, so. Right. This is the kind of event- [laughs]...
• 8:27
that Gomez would actually probably plan if he were allowed to plan events anymore. Indeed. [laughs] Without getting yelled at by ducks and, and polar bears and- [laughs] Gomez.com.
• 8:38
That, he's actually, he's actually- Illegal in 39 states... speaking from the corner. [laughs] With this back to us. So I, I'll put your skills to use if you ever come out to BV. Right on. My man. All right.
• 8:49
Thanks very much, man. Later, boys. Well, thanks. See ya. Thank you much. Top of the hill, boys. Cheers. Top of the hill, boys. [laughs] All right. Thanks, Devin. Cheers. Thanks. Well, there you have it, The Gathering.
• 9:00
I love the name of the event. I know, dude. That's, uh- And I'm telling you, I, the, uh, I met a couple at Worlds who live in Buena Vista, and they explained the whole why it's, it, it's- Buena.
• 9:11
Yeah, I saw he spelled it. I'm like, "It's phonetically spelled. I can tell he wants to say it that way." Yeah. Well, no, there's that whole, uh, Disney attachment, Buena Vista. So they call it something different.
• 9:23
No, Buena, Buena. [laughs] Yeah, Buena, dumbass. Whatever. Buena Texican with, with- Oh, that's all I saw was the thing. It- It's Hawaiian Texican or something. I don't know. Oh, man. Right on.
• 9:34
We could have a whole- You know what?... different podcast on this argument. [laughs] If, if we didn't, if we didn't have our- On phonics. Phonics Today- If we didn't have our listener line all-...
• 9:44
with your host, JK Living... lit up over here with, uh- Clement-... red lights and stuff. "Hey, welcome to the radio program. Uh, JK and Gomez are already totally on the line. Who am I talking to?" Gomez, it's JP.
• 9:56
[laughs] There he is. Hi, JP. How are you? Well, who the hell's calling from Jackson, Wyoming? Is it, is it perhaps- No, no, wait, wait, wait. Slow down though. It's Victor, Idaho. I know. Victor, Idaho.
• 10:07
Except, except we have caller ID, so you still have a 307 area code, blah, blah, blah, so. [laughs] So it doesn't, does that- Oh, bummer, dude. I don't wanna promote that place.
• 10:17
[laughs] I wanna promote Victor, Idaho, not Jackson, Wyoming, man. Right on, brother. I don't care how close they are, I wanna be far away from them. [laughs] Yeah, doesn't Dick Cheney live there? Yeah.
• 10:28
Or at least visit? We're all on. I don't know who lives there. Duck, Duck, Duck. [laughs] They got some cows and a couple of buffalo, but Idaho is the place to go.
• 10:37
Did you see that kick-ass shot I got of the buffalo when I was there for the Fat Bike Summit last year? The, the, the- You know it... the breath and stuff. Oh, it was so cool. I was- Hey, Jay, welcome to the show.
• 10:46
Sorry to steal your thunder here. [laughs] 'Cause, 'cause you did something- No worries, man... you did something way more amazing than take a picture of a buffalo. Indeed. Breathing. [laughs] Breathing.
• 10:58
[laughs] I just ride a bike. Doing what he does as an alive person. So it is Mr. Jay Peterverry here, ladies and gentlemen. Yeah. Thanks for having me, fellas.
• 11:09
Uh, it's always a pleasure, and here to talk about whatever we can do to help kinda spread this fat bike love. Man, it's, it's an epidemic around h- around the... Uh, you were just in Minnesota.
• 11:19
It's, it's bigger than the Zika virus. Uh. [laughs] So thanks for joining us on the show. Uh, congratulations to you and your wife Tracy on, yeah, the, how many Arrowheads have you two combined have you won?
• 11:34
Yeah, so we've, uh, we've been out four times. Yeah. We've, we've traveled together both times, so we've both done it four times. And, uh, Tracy has, uh, three wins to her self- Mm-hmm... and then I have two.
• 11:50
And, uh, obviously we both walked away this year with kind of a little sweep, and that was super fun. Was, uh, young Will Ross right behind you, or was he, like, way back? No, he was there, for sure.
• 12:01
[laughs] And, uh, that was expected.
• 12:03
There's always, you know, as the years go by, the competition's stepping up, and that's super sweet to see, and that's certainly why we go to these events and, you know, I wanna have that.
• 12:14
Nobody wants to ride that by themselves in a competition. So, uh- Yeah, and then, uh, let's see here, Will hung out for a bit. At, at, at the start of it there was a couple of us. Uh, it quickly shook out.
• 12:27
I mean, it's no, it's not hidden that I'll race any race like a cross country race no matter how long it is.
• 12:35
So I, I did what I do at the beginning of the event and took off from the start, and it was quickly, uh, it broke down to three of us pretty [laughs] quick. Mm-hmm.
• 12:44
And, uh, it was Will and I and a guy Ben Doom, and he fell off at about mile 30. And then it was Will and I, and, uh, it was great. Um, you know, it was definitely, you know, I went there with, uh,
• 13:00
definitely racing in mind and, um, pretty focused. Um, I kinda got trumped on the line last year, so I was kind of back to not let that happen again, um, by the younger fellas we'll call it. Yeah, Will.
• 13:14
And so- Will's a young guy, for sure. Yeah, and even the year prior, you know, with Jordan, you know, kinda got jumped there. So, um, and I, Will's definitely fast and tough, and- Jordan, Jordan is super tall.
• 13:26
Yeah, Jordan's Jordan, man. He's like a lumberjack kind of. I was so surprised in his first time that, that he won. Not wiry like Jay. He is wiry and small.
• 13:34
'Cause he, he, he wins everything in that, in the, in the shorter genres, so. Go on, sorry. [laughs] Wiry. Yeah, so I mean, it was, it was good.
• 13:43
I mean, you know, there wasn't definitely, there was not a lot of chatting going on. Um, and you know, it was definitely a business. Mm-hmm. Um, and I kinda got to Mel George.
• 13:55
This was about halfway, call it mile 70 or 70-something. Um, and I walked in, did my, my resupply. I got some water.
• 14:05
I was only in there for literally just a couple minutes, and when I was walking out Will was walking in. Um, but we were sort of riding together until then, just kind of on and off the front a bit. Mm-hmm.
• 14:17
And, uh, I might have just been seeing where he was at. Honestly, I was just trying to wear him out. I mean, I, I didn't let up at all.
• 14:25
Uh, but he was there the whole time, and then when I left there, kinda took him quite a few miles to reel me back in. He must have stayed there for a few minutes at that checkpoint.
• 14:32
And then when he finally reeled me in, call it a couple hours or 10, 10 miles later, um, he caught me, and it was probably about some of the only words that were said the whole time amongst us.
• 14:45
He said, "Man, it took a lot of effort to catch you." [laughs] [laughs] In response to that. And I kinda just was, I didn't even respond. I just listened.
• 14:57
And then, um, I just carried on my business, and I might even bumped it up a little bit, and within a few minutes I kinda glanced back and I, I didn't see Will.
• 15:07
Um, and I knew he was gonna be there, but- I think aliens abducted him, isn't that-... it was about mile 90... that's the, that's the version I got, was al- He post-... aliens abducted him.
• 15:15
He posted that, that, that he was at the end of his rope right there. Yeah. You broke him. Yeah, so kinda took off, and I, I dealt with, you know, we all deal with our issues, right?
• 15:26
[laughs] So, um, I was dealing with a kind of a, I think I broke a bead in my rear tire 'cause I was letting air out, letting air out- Mm-hmm... 'cause it was that kind of snow, demanding snow.
• 15:35
And so, uh, I probably was down a little low. I might've broke a bead, so I was getting a slow leak, so I had to milk that along with a couple of CO2s, and then finally I had to change it. Oh, man. And so- So-...
• 15:47
you know, I was losing some time, and I just kept looking, waiting for Will, waiting for Will, and then I, I threw a tube in and I just haphazardly kinda put some air in it to get me to the checkpoint, 'cause I knew I was pretty close to people who had that kind of- So Jay, did you start out on tubeless then?
• 16:03
And then, yeah, okay. Yeah, I did start out tubeless. Right on. Yep. And then so I changed my tube.
• 16:07
I didn't pump it up all the way 'cause I knew I was close to the checkpoint, and I was, like, hoping maybe the checkpoint had a floor pump, and I kinda rallied there. Got to the checkpoint.
• 16:16
You know, I was kinda just keep looking back. I'm like, you know, "I'm wasting time." I'm like, "Will's gotta be here." And I get to the checkpoint, and the first thing I say, "Is, is there a floor pump here?"
• 16:24
And there's not, so then that issue just stopped. So I had to stop and just kinda air up properly and- Mm-hmm... get the bead set back in, 'cause I just didn't do that.
• 16:34
And then, uh, while I was there I probably took a chug of Coke or something and then got on my way. And, uh, at this time it's starting to turn dark, you know.
• 16:42
So when I left there I was kinda like, you know, definitely just looking back the whole time, and I had no idea what the situation was.
• 16:52
Uh, and I just, just sort of rode into the finish, and I finished and did my deal and some pictures, this and that, and chatted a few mi- a couple minutes.
• 16:59
And then before you know it, suddenly lights come up and that was Will and, you know, whatever the time says, three minutes or something- Right, three minutes... till he was there. Yeah. And so- Man...
• 17:08
you know, he was hungry, and he's a strong kid. It was great. Um, give him much credit, and at the same time it was awesome to kinda do what I did, 'cause that's definitely the reason I went there, so, uh. Yeah, totally.
• 17:20
Congratulations on, on getting another one, man. That's, that's awesome. Yeah, you're killing it. Yeah. So let's, uh, let's supply the, uh, bike nerds- Glut of Rocky...
• 17:32
of our listeners and, uh, and talk a little bit about your new, uh, pink to orange fade job Beargrease. You, you have a, you have a new Beargrease, and then you were, you had a Beargrease before.
• 17:45
So I'm kinda interested in, you know, like, what they, what they upgraded. You know, what they changed, and how is this one, like, better than last year?
• 17:52
And- I mean, uh, yeah, the Salsa, yeah, the Salsa Beargrease is kind of a tried and true, you know? When it first came out several years ago, I mean, this is, like, my third Beargrease, and it really hasn't changed.
• 18:04
So I mean, I think that first of all tells you something about a bike. Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah. Especially in this genre of bike where- Oh, yeah... things are always changing in fat bike world.
• 18:13
Well, this is an early geometry that hasn't changed. Oh, cool. So, and it's done, it's done its work. Um, it's proven its ground. So- Yeah, it's, it's great to be on the new bike.
• 18:24
Um, as far as build goes and things, you know, standard one by. I ran a 32 tooth. I'm running, uh, power on my bike, so I have a Quarq power meter on my bike. Mm-hmm.
• 18:34
It's kind of how I train nowadays, and I got a 32 tooth on there. And then, uh- Is it, is it a, is it an elliptical 32 tooth or just a regular round 32 tooth? No, just a s- So have you- Just a round, um...
• 18:44
so you haven't bought into the bio pace, um, back in the old days they had bio pace- Well, I think that I bought into that. Ell- elliptical, I don't know. Yeah, old school bio pace for sure. [laughs] Right?
• 18:56
That worked out pretty well, didn't it? Right. [laughs] So, uh, Rob- Well, I am interested in that, but I'm not running it yet. Right on. And, um,
• 19:06
you know, so, you know, and we all add our personal touches to our bikes, but it's, it's, you know, certainly a high-end build of a bike.
• 19:14
And then, uh, I ran, uh, head wheels, so I got a, a BSD on the front, and then I ran a BD on the back. Cool. So 100 mil in the front, 85 in the back. Oh, I like that. Zertz carbon wheels.
• 19:25
Rounded out with, uh, you know, Dillinger 5s, and that was kind of a, a morning choice, you know? Mm-hmm.
• 19:32
I'm kind of fortunate enough to be able to travel with a couple of wheel sets and tires, so I kinda had that- Was it, it, it, so-... for our cold conditions or not... was it, you'd studded or not?
• 19:41
It wasn't that icy, was it? Or did you just- It wasn't icy. Okay. I mean, ironically enough, the front was studded, and that's just because that's what was mounted on that wheel from last year, right? Yeah.
• 19:53
So you know how that goes. Sure. And, uh, and, and honestly, the penalty for that is like 800 bucks. [laughs] Oh, yeah, world champions like us, we know how to... [laughs] Come on, Jay, we don't.
• 20:02
You're the, you're the, you're the authority here. Authoritizer. Nah. Nah. So, but anyway, yeah, I mean, everything worked out great. I was, uh, super pumped on my
• 20:13
choice of, uh, gear and bike and, you know, I didn't ran pogies. I ran a pretty light system. I ran pretty much the mandatory gear- Mm-hmm... with, like, an extra jacket.
• 20:24
I didn't bring anything extra because, you know, it was 25 degrees. I mean- Right... that's hot in winter ultra racing. I was soaking wet from, whatever, 10 minutes in till the finish. Oh, man. Wow. Um,
• 20:37
so, but, but, you know- Well- 16 hours. Yeah. 16 hours straight. That's awesome. At, at race pace. That's just amazing. And this is it, this isn't your only race of the year either, right?
• 20:48
You got something coming up, don't you?
• 20:49
Here's, yeah, here's my, I, I have a question about ITI, and I kind of, we talked, we, we traded emails and, uh, I had mentioned this in our emails of 10 days of racing the Thousand Mile last year, riding and camping- Yep...
• 21:06
with Jeff Oatley. So you're basically- Yeah... living together, doing back-to-back off-road centuries. I mean, and you're racing, so are you trying to,
• 21:16
are you trying to g- to, like, get up earlier and do everything faster, or, or are you talking and, and see, and, like, doing this together more? You know, what, what is that like- Yeah... those, those 10 days?
• 21:29
I mean, I think that's, I, I think that's really something that is, is probably, it, it can't be understood and it's really hard to understand, as someone that's never been to Alaska doing this Thousand Mile event.
• 21:44
Mm-hmm. Like, it's, I don't think it really, it, it, it can apply sometimes with 350 mile event, but, um, it definitely applies to a Thousand Mile event. And yeah, we are racing. We're both very competitive.
• 21:55
We're competitive with each other. We're also good friends. Um, uh, Jeff's been a mentor since I've been there my first year nine years ago.
• 22:05
Um, and you know, y- I was out front for a long time, and then when we did finally kind of link up, I mean, we're talking about conditions that are literally negative 40 to negative 50 degrees.
• 22:17
You're talking about, um, being in a place that there is no safety, uh, fallback on. Mm. You're, you're, you're on your own, okay? Yeah, no cell coverage out there.
• 22:29
[laughs] And then there, there's, there's not a choice of terrain or trail. Like, there's one trail. [laughs] We're going to the same place.
• 22:38
We're doing the same things, and then there's a certain amount of, like, um, care that you need to give yourself in those conditions. Mm-hmm.
• 22:46
It's not like, when it, when you've been pushing yourself for 24 hours in negative 40 degrees with nothing but your kit in the wilderness, and you get to a shelter, you're not gonna, like, melt water and leave in 10 minutes.
• 23:00
Mm-hmm. Like, there's a certain amount of work that needs to be done, and I think it becomes down, it comes down to a, um, you know, this becomes an expedition type of a, a race.
• 23:12
And then at the same time, yeah, I mean, honestly, Jeff and I never, ever spoke about racing. Mm-hmm. We never spoke about finishing together. We never even spoke about traveling together.
• 23:24
It was something that just kinda happened, and we both have such, uh, I would say, mutual respect for each other. It just kinda happened, and then when it did come down to the race, like, it was brought up.
• 23:35
It was like, "Hey, let's bang this thing out. Let's try to, like, race to the end." And, like, it was mentioned, like, "Nah, I, I, I think I'm good. I think I wanna rest."
• 23:46
And I, and, and I think, uh, after that kind of time together, I think it's like, "Yeah, you know what?
• 23:53
I'm gonna feel much better finishing with this man than I am, like, trying to take over this thing that is like a m- like a macho thing of, like, trying to..." I'm not trying to prove anything to anybody.
• 24:05
I'm not trying to beat somebody. I'm not trying to beat Jeff in this situation- Uh huh... of weakness after all this time.
• 24:12
It's like, "No, man, let's ride this thing out together," and just like, "Yeah, let's, let's, let's celebrate this together, this finish," because it was kind of epic Like, you know, it's, it's, it's already been sorted out between us, and we don't need to, like, let everyone else in the world know, like, who won.
• 24:33
Mm. No, we finished together. We had an amazing trip. Like, it- it's such a hard, uh, thing to understand. Like I said, uh, in my first sentence, it's just you cannot...
• 24:44
Someone who's never been there in that situation or been up north in those conditions, I don't think you, you really understand, no matter how much... Like, I can't describe it enough. A better writer- I think-...
• 24:57
can't describe it enough. [laughs] Yeah, I, I just- I think you've done a very eloquent, uh, uh- I was just gonna say, yeah, I think you did a great job of describing it. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah.
• 25:03
Mutual respect for each other and the conditions and nature at that point. Um- And it's a humility thing. It's just, like, really, like, what I got... I don't know, you know?
• 25:16
I was definitely questioned after that, and Jeff was too, and honestly, it's just like we just kinda shake our head and we're like, "We're happy with what we did." Uh- It wasn't about who crossed that line first.
• 25:27
But I, I, I think that I am nothing but universally impressed. It's, it's just such a cool thing. It's an unbelievable feat that- Absolutely... 10 back to back off-road centuries in the wilderness at- And w-...
• 25:42
in conditions that are horrible... not, and not many beer stops or anything like that. [laughs] And they don't- And distractions... and they actually do take time to take photos and whatnot on these things.
• 25:53
Speaking of photos, um, I- One or two... I don't know why. The Salsa blog, I was on it today. I'm not sure what I was doing on there, but- Uh-huh...
• 25:59
I saw a shot that Reemer took of you, and, and it's like it's blowing snow. I, I don't know if it was towards the beginning or whatever, but it's an awesome shot.
• 26:06
Yeah, Mike's, Mike was, he cut his teeth as a pro shooter. Shot a lot of bunch of- Yeah... downhill stuff. He, he knows his way around a camera, for sure. Right on. Yeah, he threw a bunch of great photos up on that blog.
• 26:19
Oh, yeah, that j- And it was really cool and- That was just like, that was boss. So are, are you- And they have passion for the sport as well. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean? Heck yeah.
• 26:26
They, they wanna capture these moments, you know? So are you headed up to, uh, the ITI? Yeah, so the 24th, yep. Tracy and I will both be heading up on the 24th, and, uh, we're both, uh, racing, uh, 350 to McGrath.
• 26:41
So I'm kinda looking really forward to it, 'cause, you know, I, when I go to Nome, I don't necessarily... I kinda toy around for a day or two, like I'm racing to McGrath. Mm-hmm.
• 26:50
And then just to keep things hot and heavy up front, and then, uh, I kinda watch the boys play with each other [laughs] to finish that one off.
• 26:58
But, um, so I don't generally race the McGrath like last year, you know, going to Nome. But, uh, this year I'm really looking forward to going to McGrath. I'm looking forward to racing McGrath.
• 27:07
Um, been putting in a lot of time training. Uh, um, it's, I'm pretty stoked to go there, uh, for sure. And, and honestly, I hope it's not a bike race. I hope it's more of a wilderness race.
• 27:21
You know, there's a side of me that kinda hopes it turns it into some sort of epic at some point. Um, just because the past couple years it has been kinda hot and heavy and fast. Right.
• 27:34
And that hasn't been, that's not typical. That's not how I was brought into it. I had pretty deep epic the first year I was there. Yeah, man.
• 27:41
It's for, there needs to- And I think, uh, I think it needs to represent that... there needs to be a couple of feet of snow, right? And a moose. [laughs] No, I mean- And somebody just dancing randomly on the side.
• 27:49
[laughs] You have to. It's ridiculous. And I, I think those moments are more remembered, actually. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You know? [laughs] Like, and that's why we go, that's why I go there.
• 28:00
Um, I look for that, and that's the reason I repeat to go back. So yeah, we'll be heading up, and we'll see what that one turns out to. I mean, it's all just one big adventure, so it's good.
• 28:11
You know, they have the, uh, the kinda the precursor to the ITI is in Anchorage this year, the Big Fat- Yeah, the Big Fat Bike Ride-... event or whatever it's called... and then the Big Fat Expo.
• 28:21
Are you gonna be up there for that? I know there's a meet and greet at some point so people can see their fat bike racing heroes. Yeah, yeah, I'll be up there. And actually Tracy and I are gonna, um, present for that.
• 28:32
Nice. So, uh, Katie Merchant, um, who runs the ITI, is actually, uh, she's kinda spearheaded this, uh, festival and this Big Fat Ride deal. Yeah. Nice. Uh, they're really good friends of ours through the years. Oh, cool.
• 28:46
And, uh, we're gonna, we're gonna present while we're there as well and just kinda share a few stories and, you know, hopefully that all goes well, you know? I mean, it's all just one big party, really.
• 28:57
[laughs] Kinda like the, kinda like the, kinda like the Tour de France, only better. Yeah, but on snow. And, yeah. [laughs] And with bigger tires and whatnot. Yeah, not so many fucking hills.
• 29:06
[laughs] And also Jay Peterbury. And women, 'cause they don't have women in the Tour de France either. This is true. Although they do have a women's Tour de France, they don't have women in the Tour.
• 29:17
Or a woman named France. [laughs] Exactly. Way to put a, way to put a period on the end of our rambling- Yeah, right on... well done sentence. Hey, Jay. Jay, it is great to have you on the show, man. Awesome.
• 29:28
For you to call. Yeah, for sure. Thanks. You guys need to keep doing what you're doing.
• 29:34
And, you know, I mean, 'cause I'm probably, [laughs] you know, you know, I'm probably gonna, like, end the show and go home and drink a lot of Budweiser- [laughs] Literally just-... and eat Papa John's pizza. Oh, Lord.
• 29:50
Peyton Manning, everybody. Is, is that [laughs] How, how, how large is your forehead, Jay? I, I... Do you have a six head? Have we gone by a forehead into the five head and now we're in the six head land?
• 30:02
I'm just saying when he, when he, when he gets to McGrath first, he's gonna have to go to Disneyland. Is it Mark McGrath? Oh, I have to drink a lot of Budweiser. Where would, and August Kitch. Like Sugar Ray?
• 30:11
[laughs] Jay, I, I, uh, I wish you some, uh, some killer tailwinds and, uh, I hope you get all the epic out of the, out of the, your ITI, and good luck, and thanks for being on the show, man. Yeah, thanks. Yeah.
• 30:25
Thank, thanks, dude. Yeah. Thank you, guys. We'll see ya. All right. Hey, geez. Yep. Peter Barry, ladies and gentlemen. Indeed. I gotta tell you, I think he was one of our best guests. Hell yeah.
• 30:37
He's a, he's, he knows what he's talking about, he's energetic, and he's totally stoked on what he does, and it was kickass. I think he did a great job of explaining, you know, that...
• 30:48
I, 'cause I actually thought about that, it's like you're racing with someone for 10 days. Yeah. And for a lot of that time it was, you know, those two.
• 30:56
You know what- Do you want, do you, do you want- You know what I bet he thought in the middle of that? What? Let's take a break. [upbeat music] So I heard you need a fat bike. Come to Zion Cyclery in Zion, Illinois.
• 31:07
We have all brands: Trek, Borealis, Salsa, Felt, Surly, and more. Yo, we have all the cold weather gears by 45 NRDA and Bunchfigure. Keep those fingers and toes nice and toasty.
• 31:22
We fix bikes also, so you have any problem, brakes, gears, suspension, we have the best mechanics in town. So yeah, visit us at zioncyclery.com.
• 31:38
You're tuned to Fat Bike Radio. Hey. Hi. Welcome back to the show. We're live on the radio, sort of. Take five. Uh, who do we have on our telephone device? This is Spinner. Am I the only one?
• 31:57
Oh, geez, Spinner. I didn't know you still- Spinner... had a Cora phone number. I thought maybe you would've moved up [laughs] in the world. [laughs] He'd be a 608. No, they don't give us new phone numbers in Iowa.
• 32:08
Once you get an Iowa phone number, you're stuck. Oh. That's how it works. I'll keep that in mind. It's the mob. [laughs] Spinner, what's up, dude? I, uh, I read your draft of the, uh, Iceratops review there.
• 32:22
That's a, that, that's a humdinger. [laughs] It's, do you like my, uh, precursor, "This does not necessarily represent the views of fatbike.com?" [laughs] And then I knew it was gonna be interesting. I was like- Yeah.
• 32:38
Who, who wants our views anymore? I don't. We've been doing this for how long? Everybody knows that what I think about stuff. Oh, yeah, I want the Alaskan Saddle.
• 32:47
But you, you actually have different views that are uniquely, uh- Yours... amusing and, uh, and, and stuff. So people should really, you know, look forward to, uh, uh, the pirate version of, uh, no, the Viking version.
• 33:04
You're the Icelandic Viking. Does it sound like- Yeah. Yeah, yeah... he's just babbling, or no? Dolphin. [laughs] I think that was English. I thought I spoke English until I heard that. Yeah.
• 33:16
[laughs] So are you, are you at your, uh, She Rides Her Own Way board meeting? [laughs] No, no. I had to do some doggy things tonight, so I didn't make it over to that. So, um- Oh...
• 33:29
I will do the Thursday night discussion and the Friday night pizza party, and then I will be the Sunday, um, I don't know, gopher, or bitch, or whatever. So- Saturday. Gigolo. Yeah. Just a gigolo everywhere he goes.
• 33:44
[laughs] People know the party's playing. He's cooking, cooking, he's, uh, cooking bacon. Cooking what? Baking bacon. Is he Walter White? He's the Walter White of bacon baking. Walter White of bacon here, sir.
• 33:56
So that's the, that was, so we- It's kinda cold. Yeah, you're gonna need some warm bacon. It's gonna be like nine degrees or- Oh... nine below. I can't remember what I saw. It was gonna be chilly.
• 34:05
What are trail conditions up that way? Uh, when I rode it last weekend it was very, very icy. I ran into a, a guy from Omaha. He's like, "You know Mike McCogan?" Yes, I do. Oh, yeah. He's a jujitsu- Yeah...
• 34:19
world champion, I believe. He, uh, is a former Bike Black Ribbon test pilot as well. He might be a current one for all I know. [laughs] I don't know. He might've just fired him. Wait, wait a sec.
• 34:29
Did he, did he actually ask to leave?
• 34:32
[laughs] I, I think that he had started repping a shop, and somehow he thought that that, that because he sold bikes that he shouldn't test bikes, which is, you know- But you're, once you're, once you're Bike Black Ribbon, you're always Bike Black Ribbon, really.
• 34:44
Right. He's just not a test pilot anymore. Oh, right. He's part of the society. Oh, for sure. And, you know. Yes. Once you go Black Ribbon, you never go back. You take that blood oath. That's how it works.
• 34:55
And- [laughs] I don't know. Basically, uh- As in I just bit my tongue and I can taste blood in my mouth, or like- Yeah. [laughs] Where you get the blood is up to you. So my man, Spinner Bryson. Yeah.
• 35:08
Uh, what, what, what, what's your big plan for, uh, the, uh, Sweaty Yeti? Are you coming to that? Oh, absolutely. I'll be up there early. Um, hopefully it's a little warmer than last year. Uh, [laughs]
• 35:23
yeah, we camped out in a, uh, we had no idea what we were doing. We had a huge, I don't know, what was it, 10-person tent? Yeah. And a little heater. Yeah.
• 35:32
And it was- And- I think Steve said there were 40 below in the morning. That was real nice. 18 of your closest friends in there. Did you spoon at all? [laughs] No, it was me and a dog.
• 35:42
[laughs] Me and you and a dog named Boo, loving and living off the land. Just, just you and a black mouth cur? Or were, you have- Just me, uh- You have a mountain cur... it was a tiger cur. Yeah. Oh, a tiger cur.
• 35:54
Yeah, a mountain cur. Yep. And Stephanie was in there, too, and then, uh, about, I don't know, 5:00 in the morning I kinda bitched out and I didn't realize, you know, we slept right outside.
• 36:03
We didn't realize that chalet was open all weekend, and we could've just slept in there. The place was heated and lit up, and, uh, we thought it was locked, and we just went over and opened the door.
• 36:13
I've had a blanket fort in there before. Yeah. One year we made blanket forts and, uh- We had a blanket fort camp out [laughs] in that place... in that place for the, for the Sweaty Yeti.
• 36:21
That, that is the plan this year. Really? They're gonna have it open? That's the plan. 'Cause julio.com- Yeah... like rented a house, but it's a bunch of Chicago boys, and they're gonna be all like, "Rah."
• 36:35
Where's my Gray's Ale? Yes. It's my neck. And- Yes... and I might wanna sleep. And somebody wants Shiner Bock- But I'm sure-... and the other thing's- I'm sure the chalet-... I'm poking eyes out and stuff...
• 36:44
could be, uh, if you're staying in the chalet it's not gonna be that tame either. There might be wrestling. And blanket parties. Oh, no, no, [laughs] those are bad. Blanket forts are good. Blanket parties are bad.
• 36:54
Blanket- Yeah... forts are different than a blanket party. Yeah, yeah. This isn't a furry- Don't encourage- This isn't a furry thing. Don't encourage. [laughs] Yes, you are. Just an open mind and a good attitude.
• 37:05
[laughs] Could just see what happens. It'll be fine. This is not what I want to hear. We had some, uh- La, la, la, la... some banjo. We just, um... [laughs] I saw some pretty interesting kegs last year.
• 37:16
Mike has an open mic. 300-pack kegs. Mike. Mike. Yeah. Mike. Well, Spinner- Yeah, but yeah, the crew's coming over... so, so did you, uh- Everybody's coming over. For- For the- For Levi's? [laughs] For what? Yeah.
• 37:31
The crew is coming over for Levis. So are we- For the Yeti. Oh, oh, that's right. For the Yeti at, at Levi's. The sweaty Yeti. Try to keep up. What were we just talking about? Were we talking about something else?
• 37:40
[laughs] What? Because I just got your tweet for a while. What else is going on? [laughs] I don't know. Uh- Herman's Hermits, ladies and gentlemen... there's so much, there's so much going on at this table.
• 37:48
[laughs] Everybody's doing- And for your enjoyment, Conway Twitty. [laughs] Is he still alive? No. No. I don't know. We go out there. We'll- we've been playing a lot of Bob Seger.
• 38:00
I think that happened last time, too, but, uh- Can we talk about them? Yeah. There's a hell of a Sunday ride. At Levi's? The, uh, you know, the, the event is like probably- Conway Twitty?
• 38:14
[laughs] Oh, now he's cracking himself up over there. I know. Oh. So who is- I'm from Ohio. I know how to do this... who is your team for the sweaty le- Yeti, Spin- er? [laughs] That is a game-time decision.
• 38:28
We'll see who shows up. Really? I can't remember what I signed up for, if a team or what. It's not like you, Shocky, and Noguera? [laughs] We wanna give somebody else a chance. Come on. [laughs] Right. Lunds?
• 38:43
Lunds coming? Yeah. I thought there was gonna be- [laughs] Throw Lunds in. Throw me in. Trying to talk- Zach going... even to, uh, one beer equals one lap, and one shot of whiskey takes a minute off your time.
• 38:53
I think that would be kind of a leveling playing field. What is, so what is the lap, uh- Hmm... what's the lap length of the actual event? It changes from year to year. Yeah, what do you think?
• 39:04
Um- Yeah, I wanna say- It usually takes about-... individual is four miles-... 40 miles... and team is three... so yeah. Huh. Oh. That sound right? [laughs] I don't know. You're the, you're the expert here, bro.
• 39:14
I thought they al- I thought they always did the same course. Solos and teams. So much beer. So much Yeti. I think he's always adding some onto it.
• 39:21
Um, that Bear Den Hill is gonna be the same, I guess, but other than that, I think, and he changes it whenever he can. He's always, I don't know, he's retired. He's not really retired.
• 39:31
He's working for the DNR, but all I ever see is him hanging out in snowmobiles and riding bikes and shooting stuff. Yeah. [laughs] Basically- Kill and bang... he's everybody's hero. Right? [laughs] Steve.
• 39:45
[laughs] I was just talking to Fanny Lumpkin about Steve, and we were just, like, singing the praises of Steve. Hi, Steve. > We're all gonna come, we're all gonna come snake blanket forts. I love that guy.
• 39:59
They're actually singing about Steve. [laughs] I'm a real you, and the dogs are howling in the background. Yeah. So- Howl. Howl. Howl... somebody is supposed to call in and bark like a dog.
• 40:07
  You got a s- a 708 or a, uh, or a 847? Or- Or a 321 or- Or a 312... 321 Contact. [dog barks] I was- 12345678910, 11. [dog barks] I got Travis. You got Travis?
• 40:23
[laughs] So Spinner, shut up for a while. Hey, Travis. We're gonna talk to Travis. [laughs] [dog barks] Rawr! Rawr! Who's bark was that? Who, yeah, that's not, that's not Vivian. No, Spinner, shut up.
• 40:32
No, no, I have, uh, Mullet. [laughs] Hey, girls, down. Down. Down, girls. That's what he said. They're, they're getting, yeah, the girls are getting crazy. You haven't met Allie, have you? Have you met Allie? Yeah.
• 40:43
Oh, yeah. That's the new one. That's the new trail dog. [dog growls] Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [laughs] I met- Cripes. Who, who else has- She wants to be on the phone. She wants to be famous... so who else has dogs?
• 40:54
[laughs] We don't have a shop dog. Should we get one? Is that- There's not enough shop dogs. I know. I don't know what happened to all the shop dogs.
• 41:03
What happened to, like, uh, everybody's, like, trying to clean up and be nice? I like shops that have refrigerators and empty beer cans and dogs everywhere and horns.
• 41:11
Like, like the Phokedells out there in Decorah, Iowa, or what? [laughs] What the Phokedells? Yeah.
• 41:17
[laughs] Man, you- I have, I have the h- this weekend I had the hardest- You just described a part of America [phone ringing] that doesn't get on TV. Top o' the Hill. Oh. Hey, I could use one. Thanks.
• 41:31
I'm gonna have to pee a lot. Yes. Yeah. Oh, God. Hey, Tra- So did you let Travis in? Is everybody in? Tra- Travis is in. Yeah. Just Spinner's stomping all over him. All right. [laughs] For sure.
• 41:43
Top of the Hill Beer boys. Cheers, Travis. Top of the Hill. [laughs] Are you in the garage? Oh, yeah. [laughs] Of course I am. So, uh- [laughs]...
• 41:56
uh, we, we just got an update from, uh, Cathy Merchant about the, uh, the- 80... event going on out there. Yeah. And, uh, maybe Travis knows a little more about that. Yeah, Travis. Yeah, I know that- Yeah. Yeah...
• 42:08
you're volunteering, and I, I hope that, I hope that, uh, you are taking full advantage of your press credentials from Fatbike.com, and they, they have, I don't know, you should have, like, a limo, like a Fat Bike limo, wing walking, you know, little planes with skis on them.
• 42:27
They should have all that set up for you, bro. They should build you a wall- A-... that you can walk on top of. [laughs] Yeah, exactly. How are you supposed to get- Get a la-... a laminated press pass... right.
• 42:37
How's he supposed to get to McGrath, ride his bike? No. Right. Build a wall. He takes a helicopter. Walk the wall. Partway there for the cameras. [laughs] The wall. So I just, I just hope that- [laughs]...
• 42:47
and maybe you should get a special knife[laughs] Or something. [laughs] Some, some- Yeah... buckskin chaps. I don't know. Was that like a really- Or anything... horrible Australian accent? Yeah. A noife? A noife.
• 43:02
A noife. That's an annoying. This is annoying. Ah. [laughs] Ah. [laughs] I think you just keep going. Hey, welcome to Mardi Gras week at Fat Bike Radio, and things are just- It was Fat Tuesday yesterday... we, [laughs]
• 43:18
we started the show, I don't know, w- we're- On recovery from this thing... have we started the show? [laughs] I think Jack Frost stopped by right before we [laughs] started. I thought- Jay Petervery was on the show.
• 43:31
Jay Petervery was the only part of the show I'd listen to if I was doing it again. [laughs] I know. [laughs] He's a good guest. We're just rambling.
• 43:38
So, okay, wait, I know that- So now we're just- Well- Now who's stepping on Travis? I'm gonna ask Travis- Who's ste-... because- Who's, who's stepping on Travis?
• 43:48
[laughs] He was, he was listening to the majority of the Jay Petervery thing. What do you think, bro?
• 43:53
I mean, he's, he was, he's coming up there by the way, and he's going to be one of the big fat ride participants, and then he's gonna do that- He's coming up there- That-...
• 44:01
and he's gonna try and take you Alaskans to the woodshed. Woodshed. Well, f- you know, that's just figuratively. On the race course. [laughs] He's going, he's going to show you how to, how racing is done.
• 44:14
That, that's, that's, that's the racing, racing part. Yeah, the racing. The racing, if you wanna race him. Yeah. I'm really looking forward to, uh, his and Tracy's talk. That's gonna be great. Oh, yeah.
• 44:25
But yeah, gonna be volunteering all weekend, working the expo, doing the ride. We're going from the train station over to Westchester Lagoon and back. So it, it's, uh...
• 44:35
They kinda kept it on the shorter side, uh, I think to, you know, try to draw as many people out to it as we can. Mm-hmm. But, uh, I imagine the bike trails of Anchorage will be quite lively that day.
• 44:45
Oh, yeah, that's gonna be great. I, I know that you guys are trying to get 1,000 people. 10,000. About 10,000. [laughs] Do you think you're gonna, do you think they're gonna hit that, uh, that 1,000 person?
• 44:59
Like, we're not just gonna hit it in Northern Wisconsin here in, like, couple weeks. Right, 'cause they already registered 1,000- Right... people- So-... at the Birkie Fest... and there's another- Plus, plus-...
• 45:08
1,000 people riding bikes that aren't in the race And they hand out VIP passes too. Yeah. Like you and I get passes. This is Wisconsin, though. I don't know about- Not that we're VIPs. [laughs] We just give them away.
• 45:17
Like, oh, a race? Hey, s- speaking of giving shit away- Yeah... and people stealing shit. Uh-oh. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Did you see that, did you see the thing on the banner? Yeah. I saw it.
• 45:27
We talked about it last week on the show, and apparently it has a home. Oh. It's in a very safe- It's in a very prized position. [laughs] Ned. So- [laughs]... you know, it's good. Oh, where?
• 45:40
I'm glad, I'm glad it found a home. I have no idea where. I'm just gonna get some white vinyl and reclaim it and- I think it was, like, $48 or $88 or something like that. Yeah. So we get- Back, back in 2014 money.
• 45:54
Way back. [laughs] I, you know- Don't you remember then, those days? [laughs] Yeah. Hey, we're gonna be selling sticker packs. Are we? Action sticker packs on the, uh, on the old, uh, E-store. You know what we had to do?
• 46:09
We had to put an ad on our own show for that shit. Yeah. Hey, folks. If you need sticker packs, uh, fatbike.com's your place to go. Uh, I don't know. We got kickass stickers. Still.
• 46:20
And the patches will take a really bad- [laughs]... version of trying to attach it to a jacket, and then it kind of falls apart. So how many, did you use stitches or an iron? I used my hands.
• 46:34
[laughs] So how many stitches did you have? I don't know, 10- [laughs]... ish. [laughs] I'm not a master sewer by any stretch of the imagination. I just wanna have the...
• 46:48
Instead of just sitting there going, like, "Hey, it's Carhartt," it's like, "No, it's fatbike.com." That's right. So you made some friends up there in LA Cross, didn't you? The LA Crossfit, yeah, in Merrick, Myrick Park.
• 47:01
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I'm not sure exactly how you pronounce it. And- So were, were those actual, um, like, normally groomed trails, or do they do it just for the event? Uh, just for the event.
• 47:11
Uh, they just had, like, a little, uh, snowshoe stamped out, you know, single track. Uh, Wyatt Bikes is in that zone, and they were, had presence there with- Awesome. I saw one-... some bad-... at Worlds...
• 47:27
oh, oh, Wyatt. It was like- Well, he's from LA Cross... it was at, like, Sus. Yeah, yeah. It was like, it was, like, a seven, a seven-bike, uh, rack, and it was like, and you just saw all seven bikes just...
• 47:43
On, oh, on the vehicle? Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. It, it was mind-bending just looking at them like, "Oh my God, you gotta be kidding me." [laughs] That's amazing. When they do line up like that, it is, it is impressive.
• 47:55
Yeah. I, I, uh, I'm, I'm a sucker. I... You swooned? You had to- I did. I did. [laughs] I did it in front of you right now. [laughs] That was a moon. That wasn't a swoon there, sir. Well, I made the, I, I made the noise.
• 48:10
Whoo. Like, whoa. All right. Did we- The Janu... did, did Travis get to finish his story? No, uh, uh, no.
• 48:17
I mean- We're just rambling around the [laughs] fucking goddamn universe and then- [laughs] Wasn't sure I had one, man. [laughs] None of us do. So Travis- We just like to fly around the orb...
• 48:25
you know what I mean, though? We're gonna get you, we're gonna get you, uh, you know, to rub elbows with all of the dignitaries and VIPs at this event. You, you mean Travis isn't a dignitary or a VIP?
• 48:40
I'm pretty sure he is, 'cause- [laughs]... I'm saying. Like, w- we, we did this- We're gonna- We, we could- All right. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait... we did this before the show.
• 48:48
I'm telling you, we're gonna provide you the golden ticket, bro. We, we did this before the show. We, yeah. Don't they know who we are? And you know what we're gonna change that to? Um- Is, don't they know who Travis is?
• 49:00
Right, exactly. No. [laughs] We, we'll use our combined skill at, at, at denying plausibility to elevate you to the level of superhero. I have a pope hat that we should send him.
• 49:11
It's like a pope's hat, one of those tall religious hats. Oh, right on. Or I have a fez, too, we could send you.
• 49:17
If he could get it onto a polar bear- 'Cause it's, you know, nothing sh- [laughs] Oh, that would be awesome. Nothing shows status and professionalism like a tall, ornamental chapeau. Wouldn't you say?
• 49:31
It's a very tall chapeau. True. So we got that going for you, so you know- And I don't think-... it's gonna be pretty great... you gotta duck down when you go into the helicopter, though, because that thing's tall. Yeah.
• 49:43
You don't want, you don't wanna lose your hat. Awesome. [laughs] Rotundly. Can I use that for snowboarding as well? [laughs] Yeah, absolutely. I, uh, Re- I think it would be- Call Red Bull.
• 49:52
I think they're on board with us. I think it would be ideal for snowboarding. Oh, did we just mention Red Bull on our Red Bull sponsored- Oh, hey... Red Bull show? Is this the Red Bull Mardi Gras?
• 50:00
[laughs] Uh, we should, like- [laughs]... we should get some sort of cocktail thing, like- Red Bull and vodka... Red Bull, Red Bull and vodka. Let's have those. They should probably be sponsoring our show for real.
• 50:09
Really? Red Bull and vodka? Um, which vodka? What's the sporty vodka today? Svedka? I don't know. [laughs] Svedka with the- Svedka 'cause it's Swedish and then you might have the possibility of the- Oh, my God...
• 50:21
Swedish bikini team- What am, what am-... if we were in the 1980s and, yeah. What am I gonna do with a pallet of Svedka vodka? [laughs] Thanks, guys. I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Mm-hmm.
• 50:33
So, uh- Do we need to talk to anybody else, or can we just keep these two guys on the line forever, or? There was actually supposed to be, uh, somebody to call in to bark like a dog for us. Huh.
• 50:43
For an Advocate trucker hat. Really? Hello? Hello? [laughs] Uh-oh. Oh, that's a, that's a Browner. That's a Browner, bro. What's up? How's it going here? Whoa. Cripes, we got way too many people on the phone right now.
• 51:02
Ladies and gentlemen- Hear me... here, Spinner- Hello. Spinner and Travis, I'm, I'm [laughs] gonna put you back in the queue because I don't know what the hell's going on. No, no. Have you kicked out? I was just in here.
• 51:14
I was behaving myself, you know. Yeah, you were. I was doing good. You're doing, you're doing fine, sir. But you can't talk in there. No, that's- [laughs] All right.
• 51:21
So the only people talking besides JK, Gomez, and Sved- Sved... is? Meow. [laughs] No, bark like a dog. Woof, woof. A little dog.
• 51:38
[laughs] What are you, some kind of sadist over there? [laughs] All right, you get the hat. That was the bark like a dog. [laughs] Right on. Who gets a hat? I'm more, meow. [laughs] He's more of a kitty. Aw. Meow, woof.
• 51:56
I like them both. I like- Oh, I'm so glad-... dogs and cats... people keep going meow. [laughs] 'Cause, like, it would be great if everyone would just stop right meow. [laughs] Oh, my God.
• 52:08
Well, that's, uh, that's my buddy, Rob. He's part of, uh, Bike Black Ribbon there in Chicago, and he just- You got a lot of fib friends there, boy. I know. Yells, "I know some perverts" face.
• 52:18
[laughs] I'm a recovering Illinesian. What am I supposed to do with my fib friends, just deny them? Hmm. Reprimand. I say bring out the comfy pillow. Um- [laughs]
• 52:33
Rob wins a, a, a, um, Advocate Cycles trucker hat. He has an Advocate Cycles watch pen. Trucker clock. And- Those hats are kick-ass. Yeah. I just got it at CABDA, which is a little bike show down there in Chicago.
• 52:49
Got to see my boys, Tim and Adam. And, uh- Right on... what else, man? You, you went to La Crosse. I went up and rode La Crosse. So do we get, can we just tell Rob to piss off now or- Hey, Rob. [laughs] See you, bud.
• 53:03
I'm kidding, Rob. Hey, congratulations. Are you even there? Meow. Meow. [laughs] He's, he's just gonna meow at us. Just mute the background. Away he goes. [laughs] Bye, Rob.
• 53:16
I don't even think we have to bother with another break. What do you think? I don't know. I'm fine. Yeah? Okay. We had some links. Oh, yeah. Got some links on the show there. Links. We always have links.
• 53:25
So it was kind of like- I almost, I almost had DFL. I almost had DFL. There was somebody a little slower. Oh, in La Crosse? Yeah. Oh. It's kind of bummed.
• 53:34
I was like- Are, did we already, you preempted the Fatty Farm Field Report? No. You- No, we were in the Fatty Farm Field Report, I believe. Wait, no, we, no, no. But we didn't, we didn't, we didn't- No, no...

I think that actually should be, uh, an award in every single event. [laughs] Uh, not to bemoan the, the, the dead too much, but here, uh, did wanna give a quick shout-out to s- Dave Mirra. Little moment of silence.
• 55:19
That was a hero of mine, man. Yeah, he was a good man. And now, links from the fat bike interwebs, webs, webs. Webs, webs, webs, webs. How did, how did the Huffington Post figure out fat biking?
• 55:34
It's a fad, don't you know? It's the latest thing. I think that could be a for real thing. For real? For real? Huffington Post? There's still, there...
• 55:41
Okay, so further down the list is one that actually, seriously, the headline is something like, "It's, it's really not a fad any- anymore," or something. What? Really? [laughs] Yeah.
• 55:54
So in that Huffington Post thing was this 30-year anniversary [laughs] of this three-wheeled fat bike that predates everything. Not, like the beginning of 1986, 30 years ago. I know, that, that French dude. Yeah.
• 56:07
Yeah, yeah, that crossed the Sahara with- What? What's with the French guy? With Michelin- [laughs] What the fuck? With Michelin five-star tires that he ate out of on his entire trip across the Sahara.

• 57:24
Door County. Door County. Door County. Door. Door. Door County.
• 57:29

• 57:38
I always considered it the pinky. [laughs] The deli- the delicate pinky? [laughs] I don't know. Am I wrong? Michigan is a mitten. Der, der, yes. This is not a fucking pinky. [laughs] Is it, did you say the thumb?
• 57:55
So rather it's slender. It's a thumb. It's a slender thumb. That's what it is. Very good. Very good. Whoa, hand, this way. Sunday is lodge- [laughs]... in Calgary. That's, that's a- [laughs] That's a...

Whose link is that? And... [laughs] I dunno. Who's keeping up? We... [laughs] Hey, you know what, you know what we did instead of doing a read-through just so we could figure out all these links? No.
• 58:16

• 58:48
Well, that might be a, uh, little sneak peek for you people that follow us religiously. I, we have a- S-... we have a great location here.
• 58:56
I think we can do a really cool racetrack, and if we do it in the snow, that would be pretty cool. I agree. Or if we do it in the, in the summer. Who cares? Or if we do it in the mud. And there's rock and roll to be had.
• 59:07
Indeed. I got a place, huge, right down here. [laughs] With porta potties. [laughs] [snorts] [laughs] Oh my God. Yes. Well, you know, you know what that signifies, that snort?

• 1:01:32
Maybe if everybody in Alaska was on a fat bike at the same time at, like, 10:01 AM when the race starts or something- And then just keep going in a-... then maybe. But they're not all gonna be in the same area...
