- 0:08Hello and welcome back to Ambitious.
- 0:10I am very excited for today's guest because today's guest I am
- 0:15joined by Jazz and Jazz is someone I have the absolute
- 0:18honor of calling a client, a friend, and truly somebody that
- 0:23I will say I am so insanely inspired by.
- 0:26She has an incredible story that I really was just so excited to
- 0:31share. When I heard it myself, it made
- 0:33me, to be honest, really emotional because it made me
- 0:36really realize what it means to truly seek full, deep,
- 0:41undeniable alignment in your business.
- 0:44And today we're going to be unpacking what alignment in
- 0:47business really looks like. Jazz is going to be sharing the
- 0:49one O 1 of what it meant to have a business that she blew up on
- 0:53TikTok to then shutting it down, removing herself from the
- 0:57Internet, taking a sabbatical to come back and recreate herself
- 1:01and her business to be truly in alignment.
- 1:04We're going to talk about what to do if you're maybe in a
- 1:06similar situation, how to know if you are actually aligned with
- 1:09your business, and most importantly, what are some of
- 1:12the things that you can do to ensure that as you're creating
- 1:15your business and you're developing it and going to the
- 1:17next level, that you're always in alignment.
- 1:19So without further ado, let's get into today's episode.
- 1:22Hello everybody, and welcome back to Ambitious.
- 1:25As you heard in the intro, I'm very excited about today's
- 1:28episode because we just did a little while ago an episode
- 1:31about what to do if you are out of love with your business or
- 1:34maybe even, dare I say, hate your business.
- 1:36And today's guest, as you heard in the intro, has a lot of
- 1:41understanding of business and the behind the scenes of
- 1:43businesses, works with a lot of different industries.
- 1:45And so she is genuinely one of the best people to be able to
- 1:49speak to this and also has her own journey that I'm really
- 1:51excited for her to dive into. So Jazz, welcome to the show.
- 1:54I'm so excited to be here. This is amazing, I cannot wait
- 1:58to dive in. Honestly, I feel like we were
- 2:01just saying before we start pressing record, we could
- 2:03probably go for like 3 1/2 hours.
- 2:04So we're gonna have to, you and I, with our gift of gab, dial it
- 2:07in today to make sure that we stay on course, which for us is
- 2:11not typical, but. We are certified.
- 2:13Yappers no 1000 percent, 1000% you get to see us when we're in
- 2:17person. OK, so as a starting point, I
- 2:19would love because obviously in the in the aspect of alignment,
- 2:23which by the way, I feel like alignment is a very like soofy
- 2:25word. It's a non tangible.
- 2:27People are like, you know, I see people talk on social media all
- 2:30the time, but alignment be aligned in your business, be
- 2:33aligned in your life and you're like, what the heck does that
- 2:35even mean? And so for me, I feel like I
- 2:40define alignment as the ability to feel like everything is in
- 2:45flow and doesn't feel resistant and feels clear.
- 2:50So like you're not doubting your decision.
- 2:51It doesn't feel like everything is 10 times harder.
- 2:54Like you feel like you see what you need to do, you're doing it
- 2:58and it just in your body doesn't feel resistant.
- 3:01Like it's kind of like inner knowing when you kind of feel
- 3:03like you need to, you know you need to pick the red shirt over
- 3:06the blue, but you end up somehow picking the blue.
- 3:08Alignment is just trusting your gut, trusting your intuition,
- 3:11and also realizing that in certain situations you may
- 3:13already be in that if that feeling of resistance is coming
- 3:16up, it could mean you're out of alignment.
- 3:18So I'm curious because obviously you do use a lot of clients and
- 3:20you're going to be sharing your own story today, like when we're
- 3:23using the word alignment in today's show, what do you want
- 3:26someone to kind of take from that or what does that mean you
- 3:28symbolize to you? Yeah, that's a great question.
- 3:32I think there's nuances for every person, but at the core of
- 3:36it, resistance is a great word. I like to think of it like going
- 3:40against the current in a river. Even if you're making progress
- 3:44and you're seeing results, like you're moving, every step feels
- 3:48hard and you feel like you don't want to keep going at some
- 3:51points. Versus when you're in alignment,
- 3:54it's kind of like the opposite. You're flowing with the current
- 3:56of a river. And so sometimes you don't even
- 4:01have to think about moving, you're just moving.
- 4:03And so I think that that's how I like to envision it is like the
- 4:05people who are out of alignment feel like they're going against
- 4:07the current and in alignment feel like they're going with and
- 4:11the current just symbolizes resistance or avoidance or a
- 4:14disdain for the effort that you have to put in.
- 4:17And so it's not that you're not moving, it's just like the way
- 4:19that it feels in the process. Also, we love a good analogy, so
- 4:24I could not be. More obsessed.
- 4:26I wanted to speak your love language.
- 4:29I was gonna say I was like speaking my love language now.
- 4:32OK, So obviously I, I so agree with that.
- 4:35And I love, I love the visual as well because I feel like it's a
- 4:37really easy thing for people to latch on to and an easy
- 4:39explanation. Obviously you had your own
- 4:42journey, which is why you do this.
- 4:43And kind of like what started or, you know, sparked a lot of
- 4:46the pivot of the work that you do with clients.
- 4:48Now. Tell me a little bit about kind
- 4:50of like your experience or your journey when it comes to like
- 4:53understanding alignment specifically in business?
- 4:55Because obviously I've seen you grow and develop and have so
- 4:59much even deeper clarity that you now than you ever did even
- 5:02when we first started meeting. And like it's been constantly
- 5:04evolving, getting even deeper and deeper and deeper, more
- 5:06specific even as to what alignment specifically looks
- 5:08like for you. And so, yeah, curious if you
- 5:11could just share a little bit about your journey and really
- 5:14how alignment came to be like your purpose.
- 5:17Yeah, I think that when Kate and I started working together, like
- 5:21when we started working together, I wanted to build a
- 5:25business that I loved because I had came to you feeling like I
- 5:30had built a business successfully, but it didn't feel
- 5:33right and I didn't know why. And I even like went so far as
- 5:37to hire people for like my mindset and all these things and
- 5:40none of it helped. I like 10X my business and felt
- 5:44like I wasn't happy, I wasn't fulfilled.
- 5:46And then I felt guilty for those feelings because I was achieving
- 5:50things that I knew a lot of people wanted.
- 5:54And so when we started together, we had like an initial VIP day
- 5:59and we wrote things on a whiteboard that like looked like
- 6:02an aligned business. But the process I realized,
- 6:05wasn't like a logical strategic one.
- 6:07A lot of it is like feeling and going through it emotionally.
- 6:11And so I essentially realized through working together and
- 6:15then in this past, I guess year, that going through finding
- 6:20alignment in your life and in your business isn't one that
- 6:22gets done on paper or on a whiteboard or as you always say,
- 6:25like in a Google document, because that's where a lot of us
- 6:27go. You can write out all the things
- 6:30that seem like the things you want or what is supposed to be
- 6:34an aligned business or like aligned with your passions and
- 6:37your zone of genius and whatever else you want to give textbook
- 6:39definitions of. But the process was actually
- 6:41extremely emotional and something more in my body and
- 6:46through conversation and mirroring back and reflections
- 6:49and iterations and step by step over time.
- 6:52So I could talk about the whole journey of this past year or two
- 6:56forever. But I think if I could bundle up
- 6:58what it felt like to go through the process, it was the
- 7:01realization that the logic and the strategy, which is I think
- 7:04where you and I and A lot of other entrepreneurs default to,
- 7:07wasn't the process that it actually took.
- 7:11And it was really uncomfortable for that reason because I'm
- 7:13usually the person that can like out think and out strategize
- 7:16everything and I couldn't avoid it.
- 7:20Yeah. Well, I think like for me when
- 7:23even when I work with a lot of entrepreneurs, like they come to
- 7:25you just wanting something different, right?
- 7:27Like, OK, like I just want something different than what I
- 7:28had, different than what I had. Would you say that you knew from
- 7:32the beginning that you weren't aligned to it?
- 7:34Or were you just kind of like, yeah, I want to do it a
- 7:35different way and not really maybe realizing, like, the root
- 7:39or the depth of what was disconnected for you?
- 7:43Because I feel like for me, there's been moments in my
- 7:45journey where like, I went to a coach or hired somebody based
- 7:49off like, yeah, I just want to like, kind of like change a
- 7:51couple things, do things a little bit differently.
- 7:53Like, I wouldn't have labeled it as I'm not aligned with my
- 7:57business. I'm like, I'm massively out of
- 7:59alignment here and I need a massive shift.
- 8:01Like it didn't seem so monumental to me when I searched
- 8:03out support. And so because of that, I think
- 8:06like for myself, I ended up in the same pattern.
- 8:08I had moments where I was like trying to problem solve and work
- 8:11the pieces on a whiteboard or on a Google Doc only to go deep
- 8:15into the process and realize, oh, it actually wasn't about the
- 8:17fact I wanted a different strategy.
- 8:19It was actually about the fact that I needed a different
- 8:22perspective on myself to then therefore shift into the way
- 8:27that I was doing business. So do you feel when you were
- 8:29doing kind of an initially like say, OK, like I don't feel like
- 8:34I'm excited about my business and I want to do something
- 8:36different. Why do you think your mind went
- 8:38to like, OK, let's change the strategy versus alignment, would
- 8:41you say? That's a fantastic question.
- 8:44I think that defaulting to changing the strategy is just
- 8:49something that's the common narrative.
- 8:50Like, I honestly don't hear much about what alignment really
- 8:55means. Are people going through it?
- 8:57Like people are always just selling the next framework, the
- 8:59next strategy, the next steps. They're going to help you
- 9:02achieve XY and Z. And so I think I just defaulted
- 9:05to like, that's always the answer.
- 9:07And it was hard for it to not be that.
- 9:10So like when you asked if I knew that I was out of alignment, I
- 9:14didn't. I remember distinctly months of
- 9:18me crying and then like forcing myself to work and then having a
- 9:21breakdown and crying and being in this cycle and not knowing
- 9:24what it was. And I thought there was
- 9:25something wrong with me. Like that's all I thought.
- 9:28Like I didn't think that there was a alignment thing.
- 9:32Like I didn't know what that was.
- 9:33And I just thought that there was something wrong with myself
- 9:36or something wrong with the strategy of my business.
- 9:40It was like either one or the other.
- 9:42So I would default to like, OK, let's change the strategy or
- 9:46like, let's look at myself and see like, what's wrong with me
- 9:49because I'm having these breakdowns.
- 9:51I don't know where they're coming from.
- 9:52So I would have never defined it that way before going through
- 9:55the process. And I remember when I came to
- 9:57you, I think I said like, I think I set up my offers in a
- 10:01way where I don't really know what I like.
- 10:02And so I just want to like go back to the drawing board.
- 10:04Like I had no idea this was like a deeper thing.
- 10:07And so I blame I, there was a lot of shame and blame too,
- 10:09which I don't know how much of that you experienced as well
- 10:13through the process of just like thinking there's something wrong
- 10:16with us because we're feeling things that nobody else talks
- 10:18about. Well, yeah.
- 10:20And I mean, even you, you sharing that just as you were
- 10:23saying that kind of like light bulb for me, because I like at
- 10:28all stages, like I'm not even going to say that.
- 10:30I would say I'm done with it at this point because every stage I
- 10:33feel like at new levels you tap into new comparison and new
- 10:37ideas and new versions of yourself.
- 10:40And my kind of like, I guess I would say awareness came from
- 10:46the fact that I was at an event and I was like to, to your
- 10:50point, like in my opinion, I was oblivious.
- 10:53Like I, I genuinely thought like this is I need another funnel.
- 10:56I need another hire, I need another strategy.
- 11:00I need to move around my cash flow and investments.
- 11:03Like I was like, not even in the arena of the fact that it was
- 11:06alignment. And I remember being in an event
- 11:09and saying something about my business that I was frustrated
- 11:11with. And someone just saying
- 11:13literally, I remember the line like gives me chills, which was
- 11:15like, what if you just did it your way?
- 11:18And instantly, which I know for most people, like I don't
- 11:21understand, but instantly I just started crying.
- 11:23And I think it's because of what you mentioned it was.
- 11:25It was the fact that I had Tuesdays where it was 11:00 at
- 11:30night. And I was bawling about
- 11:32something in the sense of either, you know, whether you
- 11:35want to call it a breakthrough, a breakdown, whatever.
- 11:38But I was having such an intense emotional reaction.
- 11:41And then for me at least, I felt like I went on social media and
- 11:44everybody was killing it. And everyone was like, I've
- 11:46never been so happy about my business.
- 11:47Nothing's ever been in so flow for me.
- 11:50And I thought like, exactly to your point, I was like, oh, this
- 11:53is not a, this is not a business owner problem.
- 11:55This is not an entrepreneur problem.
- 11:57This is a me problem. So I felt so much shame.
- 12:00And because of that, I didn't want to talk to anybody about it
- 12:03because I was like, OK, well, if I tell somebody, then that means
- 12:07I'm, you know, not doing something right or I need to be
- 12:10worried about it. What if they don't agree?
- 12:12What if they're not experiencing it?
- 12:13And then obviously, which you and I know now and like some of
- 12:16the the female circles and stuff that we all hang out in, there's
- 12:19so many of us that are in this process and yet we feel shame
- 12:23around it, even though so many of us are experiencing the exact
- 12:26same thing individually. 100% I think that I've even realized
- 12:32like the people who like when we like all collectively gather,
- 12:37there's people who are going through it that they don't even
- 12:39realize they're going through it like those earlier levels of
- 12:41like being unaware. And so they show up and they ask
- 12:44strategy questions. And I think like you and I just
- 12:47being only a couple steps ahead in the process, can look back
- 12:50and see ourselves in those people.
- 12:53And so like to your point, like it's a never ending, a never
- 12:57ending journey. But I have noticed that even the
- 13:01women who are asking strategy questions and are trying to,
- 13:05like grow and win, a lot of times they're actually
- 13:07experiencing these things without even realizing it.
- 13:10Yeah, if only I knew that so long ago.
- 13:12But there's we're so I would say.
- 13:15Like for you were like the core, the core symptoms, if you will,
- 13:20or like the signs that told you. OK.
- 13:23Like obviously, as you said, like I'm having nights where I
- 13:24felt like I was just constantly crying and I couldn't really
- 13:27label it, couldn't really figure out why.
- 13:29Was there other things that came up for you that made you
- 13:31realize, OK, like I really need to revisit this because, you
- 13:34know, you took a step away for a short period of time from your
- 13:37business. And so I feel like there must
- 13:38have been a series of things or maybe something that came up
- 13:42that made you realize, OK, you know what, like I need to reset
- 13:45here. Like I need to re evaluate what
- 13:48I'm doing. Yeah, there are so many things
- 13:51that were signs that I didn't even realize for a long time.
- 13:54And even when I took time away, I couldn't even see it because I
- 13:57was still, I think people think when if they take a break from
- 13:59their business that like they'll gain clarity, But I was actually
- 14:02just like avoiding and not feeling anything.
- 14:05So the signs I, I think now when I look back, the first thing was
- 14:09no matter what I changed about my business, I changed my
- 14:11offers, I changed my title, I changed my whatever else in my
- 14:14messaging, I still felt the same.
- 14:17It didn't feel like any of those strategic changes on the
- 14:21external front changed my internal world.
- 14:23And every iteration felt like I was dancing in a circle and
- 14:28avoiding like the core thing. Like I wasn't feeling like I was
- 14:30gaining clarity or moving forward.
- 14:33It was just like a new thing to try feeling the same over and
- 14:36over again. That was huge.
- 14:39I think also, I was on a vacation with my husband in
- 14:43Costa Rica last year when I was feeling this and I was hitting
- 14:47the highest cash months I'd ever made.
- 14:49And throughout that trip in Costa Rica, I was struggling to
- 14:52be present the entire time. It was like a three-week trip.
- 14:56And I noticed like how much it was affecting my relationship
- 15:00with my husband because I was just not present.
- 15:04And I was doing like mental gymnastics in my head constantly
- 15:07and overthinking and ruminating. And then I'd have like these
- 15:09breakdowns on the beach in this beautiful place, and I'm like,
- 15:12OK, something's going on. Like, what the fuck?
- 15:14Is this like mental illness? Like, I don't know what's
- 15:16happening. So it would be like in these
- 15:19random moments, it wasn't even just in my business.
- 15:21It was like in the best possible situation, like a dream vacation
- 15:25that we had been looking forward to forever.
- 15:26I still had this weird weirdness going on.
- 15:31So that was another sign, I think also the the difficulty of
- 15:36not being able to see the future anymore.
- 15:38So like I, if somebody had asked me where I was going in my
- 15:41business, it was like a black wall.
- 15:43That's like the way I described it.
- 15:45And that didn't change until very recently.
- 15:47I had experienced that for months or even a year where
- 15:49people asked like, what's your plan with your business?
- 15:51And I'm like, I don't fucking know, don't ask me that.
- 15:53So it was just like a black wall in my head And I'd actually
- 15:58panic and freak out and be like, maybe I'm just somebody who,
- 16:01like lives in the moment and I just like to create all these
- 16:03narratives around it instead of realizing that I couldn't see
- 16:06the future because I wasn't being present in the current or
- 16:09enjoying the current. And so like, extrapolating into
- 16:11the future was hard for me because I didn't want more of
- 16:14the same of what was happening now.
- 16:17And so I think those are the few key signs that come up for me.
- 16:20But I'm interested to hear, like in your experience, what were
- 16:23signs that you saw that maybe they're more recent revelations
- 16:28with your new level of awareness that you didn't see were signs
- 16:30in the past? Yeah, yeah, I was going to say
- 16:33too. I I think like, you know, even
- 16:36the aspect that you said there of like the narratives that are
- 16:39happening because I think what also happens with labels is
- 16:44like, say someone says like, oh, I do passive or I do high ticket
- 16:48or I'm masculine or I am in the feminine or I do XYZ And like
- 16:52all these labels and boxes. I think there's also this aspect
- 16:55when we're building business, when we tell ourselves like this
- 16:57is who I am and that's how I operate and this is how I think
- 17:00or these are the moves I make. And then you're getting this
- 17:04sign or you're getting this message internally of like kind
- 17:07of feel like I want to go a different way, Kind of feel like
- 17:09I don't. I don't know if this is actually
- 17:10me. It's almost like an identity
- 17:13crisis as much as it is a business decision because you're
- 17:15starting to have to acknowledge that this thing you've
- 17:18programmed yourself to say I am or that I do or that I'm going
- 17:22to be is no longer. And I see it's a lot actually
- 17:25with women who are going for seven figures and multiple 7
- 17:29figures. I've actually seen time after
- 17:31time people who go for this financial target and then they
- 17:34get closer and closer and they realize like I don't even want
- 17:36that. Like I don't even care about
- 17:38that. I realized I don't even care
- 17:40about the number. I don't care about it looking
- 17:42this way or that way. Like it's just that's not
- 17:45important to me. What's important to me is being
- 17:46home with my kids or what's important to me is travel or
- 17:49what's important to me is, you know, working 3 hours a day.
- 17:52And like if I do that and I make multi 6 figures, I am content.
- 17:56Like I do not care. And so I think I really love
- 17:59that aspect that you added of the narrative because I also
- 18:01think sometimes we sort the information that's coming up for
- 18:04us based off of oh, Nope, that doesn't fit this box.
- 18:06So therefore I'm not going to address it.
- 18:09You know, it's a great question about the symptoms.
- 18:10I think for myself like 100% when you noted I couldn't see
- 18:16the future. I so agree.
- 18:17People be like, so like, where are you going with the business?
- 18:19Like what are you going to be creating?
- 18:20And I'm like, I don't know, like I, I had the, I had the mission
- 18:24of what I wanted to do. Like I always knew that I wanted
- 18:26to help women and like, that was not going to change.
- 18:28But what that looked like didn't feel clear.
- 18:29The steps didn't feel clear. And I think most importantly, I
- 18:34started to have massive resentment around things that
- 18:37really typically should have no charge to them.
- 18:40So like, you know, even for me, and it's going to sound really
- 18:43weird, but I'm just going to be really transparent and
- 18:45vulnerable with you guys. I literally remember like
- 18:48wanting more and more and more sales and being OK, like the
- 18:52next target, the next target again.
- 18:54And then I literally am I, my team will test this.
- 18:56I had DMS full of people who wanted to work with me and I
- 19:00didn't want to answer them. Like I was like, I could see
- 19:03them there. I could see them being like,
- 19:04hey, can I learn about your mastermind?
- 19:05Hey, can I learn about your coaching?
- 19:07And they would just sit there for seven weeks and like, I
- 19:10could see them. I was aware of them, but I
- 19:12didn't want to open them because opening them meant I had to have
- 19:16the conversation to sell them, and to sell them meant I had to
- 19:18serve them. To serve them meant I was
- 19:20staying longer in this business structure that I had that I
- 19:26wasn't excited by. Or I also saw it for myself in
- 19:29launching offers and then killing the launch because I got
- 19:32into it and I was like, no, no, no, I don't want to do this.
- 19:34I don't want to do this. And having that come up a couple
- 19:36times or having ideas were things that I wanted to do and
- 19:39then backing out and then being like, OK, now I'm ready.
- 19:42And I thought it was all a matter of like, oh, I was
- 19:44mentally exhausted or I wasn't prepped or whatever.
- 19:47What it really came down to was everything that I was
- 19:50procrastinating were really things that frankly I just
- 19:53wasn't passionate about. And I refused to acknowledge
- 19:57that because to me, it meant that to be transparent, I felt
- 20:01like I was giving up. I felt like it was like.
- 20:04There's so much opportunity and I think this is something people
- 20:07struggle with, right? Like even for you before taking
- 20:09your pause, like for an outside person, they might argue like,
- 20:13how could you take a pause when there was so much momentum and
- 20:16there was so much, you know, movement and energy around your
- 20:20brand and sales and clients coming in and all these things.
- 20:23And for the average person right now who might be listening is
- 20:25like, I don't even have like, Kate, how could you say you have
- 20:27inquiries and not answer them? What are you talking about?
- 20:30Like for you, when you were in that moment, how did that feel
- 20:34for you to feel like you were in like this peak of momentum and
- 20:37that was the, the moment where you decided like, no, I'm
- 20:40choosing myself and I'm getting recentered.
- 20:44It was immediate relief and then spiraling.
- 20:49That's what happened was like I chose myself, which I actually,
- 20:53I love that you put it that way because I probably would have
- 20:55never defined it that way. I think there was a lot of shame
- 20:58I felt around taking the break because I knew I was stepping
- 21:01away from what so many people wanted, the inquiries, the
- 21:04sales, the momentum. But to your point, and I saw
- 21:08you, I heard you say this recently today and it just
- 21:10really resonated. I actually said last year, at
- 21:13the end of last year, I was like, I don't care how much
- 21:15money I make. I can make a quarter, I can make
- 21:17a third or I can make a fraction of what I'm making and I just
- 21:21want to feel better. Like that's it.
- 21:23Like that's all I was saying, but I didn't know how.
- 21:26And so I got really frustrated by trying all the strategies,
- 21:29trying all the changes to my business.
- 21:31And so I literally just take took time away because I thought
- 21:33there was no other option. It wasn't like I was choosing it
- 21:36like it out of empowerment. It felt like maybe a sense of
- 21:40like giving up or like feeling like nothing was going to
- 21:42change. And so maybe I just need time
- 21:44away and it was really hard. I literally made a list that
- 21:49week of like part time jobs that I can, I can get because I was
- 21:54like, I maybe I'm just not meant to be a business owner.
- 21:55Like I'm just going to go be a part time teacher or like do
- 21:59something else. And so I would, I wouldn't even
- 22:02say it was me choosing myself. It was literally just, I wanted
- 22:06to feel relief from the the friction and the resistance and
- 22:12I didn't know what other path there was to fixing it or to go
- 22:17through it because I didn't even know what was going on.
- 22:20And I really like what you mentioned about the labels
- 22:22because that's something you really helped me with.
- 22:25And I think a lot of clients of mine struggle with this too, is
- 22:28they build their business for a certain amount of time based off
- 22:31of a label with success. Like I was the TikTok person and
- 22:34there were other people I know who labeled themselves as the
- 22:38person who's going to XY or Z thing.
- 22:40And they change as people, their identity changes and then they
- 22:43have a crisis because there's no, they're no longer connected
- 22:46to the thing that they have a reputation around, have success
- 22:49around, and they don't know how to change it.
- 22:52And so like you saw with me for months, I would just flip flop
- 22:57between my new identity and the old one because I felt so
- 23:01comfortable with the labels that I knew that they got me a proven
- 23:04result, quote UN quote. That being into like stepping
- 23:07into the new identity that was unknown without really labels,
- 23:12that I think it's more like values and beliefs rather than
- 23:15labels. It was hard because those things
- 23:18felt less concrete and more like I can do anything with it.
- 23:23And that was scary as hell. Well, I'm picturing as you're
- 23:25saying that I'm like, I don't know why my brain went to like
- 23:29like seeing you and seeing like on the left this path, like to
- 23:32your point of like getting to this result.
- 23:34And like you see all these perfectly curated stones that
- 23:37you step on to get to that place and you can see it at the end of
- 23:39the road, like choose option A and like this has been
- 23:42successful for you. You have proof of concept.
- 23:44You know this generates sales. You know this works in your
- 23:47marketing. You know, it generates as much
- 23:49money. Like just go this way.
- 23:50It's well lit, there's perfect stones.
- 23:52You can see the end destination, beautiful.
- 23:55And then to be aligned sometimes means the right path, which has
- 23:59sticks and branches covering it and you can't see the end of it
- 24:03and it's not well lit and there are no stones.
- 24:06And yet you're like, hey, choose alignment.
- 24:09And it's like, duh, the average person struggles with this
- 24:13because to your point, which I love and I definitely want to
- 24:16dive into, there's a mindset that has to happen to seek to go
- 24:22down that path, right? Like the natural inclination in
- 24:26US is if we have proof of concept, our brains are always
- 24:29trying to keep us safe. They're always trying to avoid
- 24:31hurt or upset or resistance. And so it's pretty standard,
- 24:35especially in business, that we would seek to go the path of
- 24:38least resistance, right? Especially when we have,
- 24:40especially when someone's scaling a business, you already
- 24:42have proof of concept of something that's worked.
- 24:44And so then to say, hey, no, no, you know what?
- 24:46If you want the ultimate experience potentially being the
- 24:50main word, you have to go down this path of discovery of
- 24:54alignment and what that looks like for you.
- 24:56And here's the thing, like it's not carved out, you have to
- 24:58create it. And so obviously, I know that
- 25:02like this last say six months has been a ton of like personal
- 25:05development and mindset work. And as to your point earlier,
- 25:09kind of ended up not like there was strategy pieces, but it
- 25:13really actually ended up being that that was a domino after the
- 25:16discovery of alignment. And so I'm curious, like,
- 25:18obviously you've walked that path on the right with the no
- 25:21stones and the no destination and not well lit.
- 25:24If someone is listening to this and they're like, I'm not
- 25:26aligned and I'm freaking terrified to consider going down
- 25:29that path because I feel like I've already seen the one on the
- 25:32left and it feels like it's much easier and it's already proven.
- 25:36Talk to me a little bit about kind of what you've been
- 25:38experiencing internally or what you feel has maybe been
- 25:41supportive for you to go down in the last couple months that's
- 25:45kind of allows you to feel more and more clarity unlocking.
- 25:49Yeah, that's an amazing question.
- 25:51And to think about what helped me continue to take steps on
- 25:55that path rather than like avoiding it or like
- 25:59backtracking, having like a support system has been #1 and
- 26:04that doesn't always have to be like a business coach or
- 26:08whatever. I think just somebody who gets
- 26:10it, like somebody who either has been there or is in the same
- 26:15world as you and can understand what you're going through.
- 26:18That's like the number one thing.
- 26:19Because the ultimate difficulty is like you mentioned, like your
- 26:25body and your mind trying to protect you and keep you safe.
- 26:29And so you will have like these overrides.
- 26:32Like I had these overrides of like overwhelming emotion and
- 26:35overwhelming feeling of fear. Like I would literally, to be
- 26:39transparent, I would literally cry in bed like this year at
- 26:43multiple points and just say I feel like a failure.
- 26:45Like I feel like a loser because I felt like I was doing feeling
- 26:48all these things and going through so much hardship and
- 26:50wasn't seeing like the quote UN quote success, conventionally
- 26:54successful things that I was seeing last year.
- 26:56And so I just felt like an absolute failure.
- 26:58And so you're going to have these feelings like it may not
- 27:01be exactly that, but your own variation of like all of the
- 27:04built up emotions and limiting beliefs.
- 27:06And they could be extremely overwhelming if you don't have
- 27:08somebody to create the space for you to feel them.
- 27:11So that way you can continue to move forward because that's the
- 27:14only way I was able to continue was by feeling those things and
- 27:17not avoiding them like I always used to do.
- 27:19So I think that's the first thing.
- 27:21And the second is the emotional regulation and processing, and
- 27:27that's just literally creating space to feel things and not
- 27:29making a story about it and not doing mental gymnastics about
- 27:32what it means about you or your business or the world or your
- 27:34life. And so that's been a huge thing
- 27:36for me too, is like just feeling the things and allowing that and
- 27:40giving myself space too. And whether that's like me doing
- 27:43breath work in the morning and then like crying and then be
- 27:45like, OK, let's go film content or me having a breakdown or, or
- 27:49a breakthrough laying in bed and just like crying about whatever,
- 27:54about the fact that I was feeling stressed the whole week
- 27:57or whatever. It was just like not trying to
- 27:59find the why and just feeling it like the emotional processing is
- 28:02another thing that helps you keep going.
- 28:04And these are all like things that feel like they're signs
- 28:07that you're failing because you're like crying and you're
- 28:10doing all the things that people label as bad.
- 28:12But these are actually the things that help.
- 28:14That's like the the first couple that come to mind to support
- 28:16emotional processing. I think also a third thing is
- 28:20like creating commitments to yourself.
- 28:22I know we were talking about this recently, but you are
- 28:25probably going to experience shifts in your engagement and
- 28:30your sales and the metrics. And it can be really hard for
- 28:34your body to look at the numbers and not panic or feel like
- 28:38you're making a mistake because you're going down the unbeaten
- 28:41path. And you have to trust yourself
- 28:43over numbers, which can be really hard because you feel
- 28:46like the numbers are concrete and whatever you're feeling is
- 28:49like made-up in your head. Like that's how I always felt.
- 28:51And so making like commitments, like I'm going to take these
- 28:55actions, like XY and Z actions for X amount of days without
- 29:00analyzing, without looking at how it's affecting the bottom
- 29:03line. And then potentially finding new
- 29:05metrics to define success, whether that's how often you're
- 29:08showing up or the difference in people that you're attracting,
- 29:13like the more qualitative things that you potentially would never
- 29:16really look at because you're always focused on sales.
- 29:18So I think redefining success and sticking to commitments and
- 29:23all of those things help with continuing to chart your own
- 29:27path. Yeah.
- 29:28I mean, I think like you hit on something massive there, which
- 29:31is like, I think those also too can be connected and they
- 29:34compound when they're connected. Because sometimes when we are in
- 29:38this like dysregulated state and we feel like we're really raw
- 29:42and we're feeling, we like anything basically tips us off.
- 29:46And then you're like, OK, like I'm going to take that
- 29:48commitment to myself and I'm going to go take that action.
- 29:50And, you know, try as much as I can not to look at the the
- 29:54outputs and sense of what it generates is the hardest thing
- 29:57to do. But then when we do, sometimes
- 29:59it's like if you try something new and you're like, OK, like I
- 30:03wasn't aligned to the way that I was doing things, I'm going to
- 30:05try something different. Then you try something different
- 30:08to some people, depending on the state in which you're looking at
- 30:12it. The thing that happens ends up
- 30:15becoming evidence to you of oopsie, this was not good.
- 30:19This is not safe, this is not right.
- 30:20Like there's something going on. And I used to have that.
- 30:23I used to have it that if I took a new action and the the launch
- 30:27I did didn't work out the way that I wanted, I'm like, see,
- 30:29people don't want it, right? Like it was always like me
- 30:32trying and seeking to collect evidence or for me it would be,
- 30:37you know, when as to your point, when I feel these really intense
- 30:40emotions around like a resistance in my business.
- 30:44I used to be like, oh, that's a sign.
- 30:45Oh, that's a sign. And I feel like even now, like,
- 30:48you know, we've had a lot of conversations about like
- 30:51emotions and I think we've probably cried a stupid amount
- 30:54of times to each other. Not even about the fact it's
- 30:57interesting because not even about, I would say being sad,
- 31:01but just genuinely like to your point with emotional regulation,
- 31:04like releasing. And I think that the thing that
- 31:07has been for me the the most helpful in my kind of navigating
- 31:13in that path was number one, like setting the expectation of
- 31:17like you chose to walk down it and you knew there were no
- 31:20lights. Like you chose to walk down and
- 31:23you knew there were no steps and you knew you couldn't see the
- 31:25end destination. So once you're 4 steps in, you
- 31:28don't get to say, Oh my God, it's dark.
- 31:30Like you knew that before you started walking.
- 31:33So like, I think setting a fair expectation, like when you're
- 31:36trying to find alignment in your business, it's going to be
- 31:38really messy. Like to your point where you're
- 31:40like, I feel like I'm kind of, you know, pivoting to me.
- 31:43I find pivoting really beautiful because I feel like it's kind
- 31:46of, to me a matter of like collecting little pieces of
- 31:49evidence along the way of like, that fits, that doesn't fit.
- 31:52A part of that fits that definitely is not me.
- 31:55And like with all those little pieces of collection, you feel
- 31:58so much more confident when you reach the end of like, OK, like
- 32:01this really feels right. Like this feels like it really
- 32:04is who I am or what I'm supposed to do or who I'm supposed to be.
- 32:08And the thing that I would say for me was like the most
- 32:12impactful 100% was having support in that.
- 32:14And like, yes, of course, like, can you have a coach and all
- 32:16those things? Sure.
- 32:17But I actually feel like what's been the most like insanely
- 32:22healing for me was having other women around me who were going
- 32:27through similar things. Like you and I both know we have
- 32:30a circle of women who are like, it's all on the table and
- 32:33they're like, I hate this. This is pissing me off about my
- 32:35business. Like they're just so real and
- 32:37raw about what they're navigating.
- 32:40And I think sometimes being witnessed in your transformation
- 32:44and then most importantly, witnessing others going through
- 32:47the same thing has been so healing because you start to
- 32:50realize like you're not alone. And that shame I feel like
- 32:53starts to dissipate and that, you know, Oh my gosh, this is
- 32:56wrong. That's what it means about me.
- 32:57You're like, well, I have six or seven other women who are going
- 32:59to the exact same thing. And I was like a firm believer
- 33:03that I was like in a solo journey until I started to have
- 33:07all of our gatherings basically of all of us coming together and
- 33:10telling each other openly and vulnerably what was going on.
- 33:14And the thing I know that you can attest to too, is like, it
- 33:17also doesn't have a stage of business.
- 33:20It's not like this milestone of like, once you get here, the
- 33:23constant chase for alignment stops.
- 33:26Like I think because we're always changing in who we are in
- 33:28our businesses, that what's aligned to us is also changing.
- 33:34So the thing that's really interesting is you're always on
- 33:36the path. Like the path really doesn't
- 33:38have this like you've achieved and you've got here.
- 33:41It's just like this constant discovery I feel like.
- 33:44Yeah, I love what you said about like, you don't get to go 4
- 33:48steps in and then complain that there's no lights because that's
- 33:51so that's so valid. That's exactly what it feels
- 33:53like. It's like you're like, yeah, I'm
- 33:55going to be so confident. I'm going to be brave.
- 33:57I'm going to tackle all these things.
- 33:58And then you take a few steps and you're like, Oh my God, this
- 34:00is so scary. And it does feel exactly like
- 34:04that. And I think what really helped
- 34:07and the biggest accelerator for this process for me was going to
- 34:13your retreat. Because it's so easy to be in a
- 34:16vacuum online and to not really feel anything because you're on
- 34:20like an hour of long call. And like, we're all scratching
- 34:23the surface and nobody's really witnessing you or seeing like
- 34:27the million other data points of like how you move and your
- 34:30facial expressions and like just being in the moment with you.
- 34:33And so being at the retreat, I was like, oh, this is going to
- 34:36be great for like, just getting a little bit more clarity on
- 34:40like, my business. And I don't even know what I
- 34:41thought. I think I just, like, went into
- 34:43it just like, being like, this is going to be fun.
- 34:45And then I cried the entire time.
- 34:47So being an added retreat where I was able to be around other
- 34:52women, where we were witnessing each other and seeing each other
- 34:57because we often do not feel seen in the online world.
- 35:00And a lot of what we put out is curated.
- 35:03Even if we are sharing a hard thing online, it is still
- 35:06curated and we're still filtering ourselves to a certain
- 35:09extent. So like to release all of that
- 35:12and just be able to be seen and supported and witnessed and go
- 35:17through a transformation in person was like the biggest
- 35:20thing and the most helpful thing for me.
- 35:23And I didn't even realize that I needed it or what would happen.
- 35:26It kind of just like unfolded the way it was meant to, I
- 35:28think. Well, because like you and I, I
- 35:31feel like we'll be connected on a million and one things, but I
- 35:33feel like one of the things that we connect on is the fact that
- 35:37both of us were very like self-proclaimed like masculine
- 35:42strategy nerds who like love structure and like guys.
- 35:45She has a background engineering.
- 35:46Like she's literally physically wired this way, right?
- 35:49And so even with you mentioning that, because I, I've shared in
- 35:52other episodes, you know, my perspective on kind of like how
- 35:54I started to tap into this area, someone listening to this who's
- 35:58like deep in strategy. She's somebody who's like, I
- 36:01want to scale. I want to go for these big
- 36:02milestones. And these girls are on this
- 36:04podcast right now telling me to cry in front of a group of other
- 36:08people. I don't know, this sounds like
- 36:11Nope, I'm not interested. I think about old Kate and like
- 36:15her hearing that would be like these people are so foofy and
- 36:18like I don't this does not resonate with me would have been
- 36:21my old perspective until I had put myself in those
- 36:25environments. I'm like obviously like
- 36:27yourself, like you go to a lot of retreats just like I do.
- 36:30We both go to a lot of coaching events and conferences.
- 36:33And the thing that I, I will say is like it's interesting now
- 36:38because I actually desire it. I don't know if you've gone to
- 36:41this place yet, but like I feel like I kind of crave it.
- 36:43Like I kind of want to go release.
- 36:46I want to go be in those safe spaces because it's kind of like
- 36:50an anything like when you feel like you're just super
- 36:52frustrated and you're kind of you're feeling resistant or
- 36:54feeling pent up and then you're like, I just need to like
- 36:58release this. It feels like there's like this
- 37:00kind of build up of energy in me and then you cry or then you go
- 37:03do whatever and you instantly feel this calm.
- 37:06Like that's how I feel when I'm around other people who
- 37:09experience the same thing. But I can so see the person
- 37:12listening being like, OK, so Jazz is telling me to go get in
- 37:16a room of other women and cry. This does not sound like a good
- 37:18plan or a good idea. Talk me through maybe how your
- 37:23relationship with that emotional regulation side of things has
- 37:27changed because I would hazard to guess probably typically
- 37:30before this whole world, you probably weren't going to be the
- 37:34first person to jump in and say, hey, let's cry together.
- 37:37Because again, to your point, which we've talked about, you
- 37:40know, crying is usually associated with something
- 37:42negative is happening. And I think the rewiring of the
- 37:45relationship to releasing an emotional regulation myself, I
- 37:48agree with you, has been such a big part of my journey.
- 37:50But like, what was that like for you going from that masculine
- 37:54belief of like, you know, crying means something's wrong to now
- 37:57learning how to emotionally regulate and not involving
- 38:00crying. Yeah, the, I think my answer is
- 38:03a little bit convoluted or complicated because there's like
- 38:06so much that went into my perspective on it.
- 38:10Like I grew up in a immigrant family, Middle Eastern family.
- 38:14And so if anybody knows, that's like a one of the cultures where
- 38:18like emotions are just like, not a thing.
- 38:21And if somebody feels them, it's like ignored or they think that
- 38:23there's something like going on. It's just kind of avoided and
- 38:27that's fine. Like my, my parents, I, I love
- 38:29them very much, but the, I think the environment was because I
- 38:33would grow up and I would feel all these feelings.
- 38:35It was just kind of like shoved aside or I felt like villainized
- 38:39maybe for having a feeling. And so I had all these labels
- 38:42and these things that I carried around what it meant to have an
- 38:46emotion or to express it to other people.
- 38:48And then later in my life, I are really passionate about learning
- 38:52about emotions. And so I will write a lot of
- 38:54personal development books. I think a lot of first
- 38:56generation Americans go through this where I know a lot of my
- 38:59cousins, like especially the oldest daughters of all of them,
- 39:01they go through this thing of like, OK, I feel like there's so
- 39:04much weight I carried in my life and I want to like learn more
- 39:06about myself. So you like go on this personal
- 39:08development journey. You read about all the different
- 39:10things related to mindset and emotions.
- 39:12And I thought that made me emotionally intelligent or emot
- 39:18like be able to process emotions better.
- 39:20But all it did was give me the tools and the language to do
- 39:24mental gymnastics around my feelings.
- 39:26And so I would like have all these labels and have all these
- 39:29things that would pop up in my head when I had an emotion.
- 39:32And I would turn it into like this fun story in my head or
- 39:37like think I was being really self aware because I was
- 39:40thinking about it. But thinking about it is
- 39:42different than feeling it. And I didn't know that.
- 39:44And so I think that that if I had like listened to myself now
- 39:50a couple of years ago, I would have thought that I was doing it
- 39:52right. And I would be so confused about
- 39:54what I'm talking about now or just think like, what kind of
- 39:57woo woo path is Jasmine on? Like, what?
- 39:59What the hell is she talking about?
- 40:00Because I also valued logic and strategy and intelligence over
- 40:05everything because that's also the environment I grew up in
- 40:08where like that was the elite form or the elite quality.
- 40:11So I think that it's hard to, I still have that voice in my head
- 40:15sometimes of like, what the fuck are you talking about?
- 40:18Like, is this even worth spending time on and explaining
- 40:23or working with on with other people on.
- 40:25And the evidence that every time that it is worth it is just how
- 40:29different I feel, how different my relationships are, how
- 40:32different I operate, how much my energy has changed.
- 40:36Like my husband the other day was telling me, like, I feel
- 40:39like your light is back. And that just made me cry
- 40:42because I didn't realize it was gone.
- 40:44It was just, I was living in my head and so disconnected.
- 40:46So yeah, it's a weird thing to look at from a past version of
- 40:51myself. But a lot of it you only really
- 40:55start to understand when you kind of, like, RIP the Band-Aid
- 41:00off and start taking little steps.
- 41:01And you realize there's like, so much to uncover.
- 41:03And it's you have to feel it to understand it.
- 41:06And I love that you noted that because I think that one of the,
- 41:10one of the things that I was like not ready for was the fact
- 41:13that alignment was to be centered to be like, if you
- 41:20think about literally like 2 pieces aligning, like clicking
- 41:23together, all the pieces have to be in place for that to happen
- 41:29in the sense of like all pieces have to shift.
- 41:31Like it's a domino effect of like if you move one piece, the
- 41:35other pieces move as well. And I think what I realized was
- 41:38like for me when I started to get more aligned in the way I
- 41:41was doing business and, you know, seeing what I wanted to do
- 41:45with my offers and seeing what I wanted to do with marketing.
- 41:48And you know, for some tangible examples, like I, I realize like
- 41:52alignment for me, I really didn't love a certain way that I
- 41:57was being taught to scale programs.
- 41:59And like, it was like taught that like you're nowhere to be
- 42:01found. You don't have access to
- 42:03clients, like you're not anywhere.
- 42:04And like, obviously, if you guys have heard me talking past
- 42:06episodes, like I have private clients, which is considered the
- 42:09no no of business coaches because you're trading time for
- 42:11money and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 42:13But I was like, my heart loves that.
- 42:15Like I love doing it literally lights me up.
- 42:17So I was so conflicted because I was like, I'm told it's not the
- 42:19right way and yet this is what I want to do.
- 42:23Or for example, like it might have been marketing wise, I was
- 42:26really being so, so curated in marketing.
- 42:29Really what I thought was from the lens again, strategy brain
- 42:33of like, Oh, this is the right thing.
- 42:35And like it's getting the outcomes, it's getting the sales
- 42:36and it was getting us great results to get scaled to our
- 42:38company. But like I felt like sometimes I
- 42:40looked at my feet and I'm like, I don't even know who that is.
- 42:42Like I don't need, that's not, that's not me.
- 42:44Like it's part of me. It's a, it's a subsection of me,
- 42:48but it didn't feel like the full essence of me.
- 42:50And it was interesting because we had a retreat in Toronto
- 42:53actually, which is where that came up.
- 42:55And I realized like one of my clients, it was interesting.
- 42:58One of my clients had said to me, like you just don't seem
- 43:01like you ever have like a bad day.
- 43:03You don't really seem like you have, like you don't struggle
- 43:05like you don't seem like you ever struggle with a sale.
- 43:07You don't really ever struggle with marketing.
- 43:08You probably don't have mindset issues.
- 43:10You don't really have comparison.
- 43:12And I was like, what are you talking about?
- 43:14And so I started to realize I was like, people literally think
- 43:17I don't poop. Like people literally think that
- 43:20I'm just like, not, not normal. People think I'm not normal.
- 43:25And I was like, but that's my responsibility.
- 43:26It's like the fact that like there's this image and I'm going
- 43:29to be honest that the lack of alignment and therefore like the
- 43:32breakdowns and all of that, where that came from was the
- 43:35fact that I had built my business in such a structure of
- 43:37what was successful that when it was so hard for me to do, I had
- 43:42to maintain it to maintain the results, even though that wasn't
- 43:46entirely fully to my core me. So for example, if I was like,
- 43:51like, for example, a year from not even a year, nine months
- 43:54ago, Kate would never fathom recording a podcast and a sweat
- 43:59suit. Is it still neutral?
- 44:00Yes, it's still on red. But other than that, I would
- 44:03never fathom it. I would never even consider it.
- 44:06And you know, even crying in front of clients, I would have
- 44:10previously seen that to be like, oh, that's weak.
- 44:12That's not OK. And I love what you added about
- 44:15the connection with your husband because I have also seen
- 44:19alignment in my business create that domino in other parts of my
- 44:23life. Like I've never been so clear
- 44:26and open and connected with the close people in my circle and
- 44:29some of my closest friends. I've never been so connected in
- 44:33relationships and with family. Like if there's just, there's
- 44:37been this domino that it's kind of like when I shifted the
- 44:40pieces, I couldn't help but the almost like backlash in a
- 44:44positive way that that had on the other parts of my life.
- 44:47And so I love that you mentioned that because I think something
- 44:50that many people don't recognize is when you're out of alignment,
- 44:53really it starts with you to your point, your energy changes,
- 44:57your perspective changes, your behavior changes.
- 45:00And so because you change, your reality in every bucket changes
- 45:05as well. Yep, 100%.
- 45:07And I think that that is because business is usually a
- 45:10manifestation of a lot of the things that already exist.
- 45:14And so it's like a huge mirror. Just like I think when people
- 45:17have kids, it's a big mirror for them of like their patterns and
- 45:22their beliefs because their kids mirror back to them.
- 45:24I think business does the same for people in that where you are
- 45:28AT and who you are will be mirrored back in the business
- 45:31you create. And I think 'cause people think
- 45:32business is for others or this like strategic thing that can be
- 45:37formulated that that won't happen.
- 45:39Or if that's if something's wrong, it's a formula problem.
- 45:41But it almost always is the fact that it's just mirroring back
- 45:46something that's existing. And it's existing probably in
- 45:50all areas of your life because it is all connected to your
- 45:52point. And so I think a part of it too,
- 45:56to go to your point of like being curated online and like
- 45:59looking like you don't poop, which like, if you don't look
- 46:01like you poop online, then let's ask, let's have a conversation.
- 46:05But it's really, it's really about being like, I think, OK,
- 46:11so the way I would love to explain it is something I
- 46:14realized this past year is I think when people come across
- 46:16like they have it all together online.
- 46:18And I don't know if you experienced this, but business
- 46:20coaches who like to look like they have like all the pieces
- 46:23together. Sometimes it attracts people who
- 46:27idolize you and then put you on a pedestal to like save them
- 46:31because you're not positioning yourself as somebody who is
- 46:34figuring it out. Also, it's like, I have the
- 46:37answers and I've gone through this as well.
- 46:39It's like I positioned myself of like somebody who like had all
- 46:42the answers and didn't make it look like I struggled with
- 46:45marketing or sales or any of the things.
- 46:47And so I think I inadvertently created this relationship with
- 46:51other people that like, I can save their business and I can
- 46:53save them. And that really like disempowers
- 46:57the person. It creates like a weird
- 47:00relationship with your clients. And I also saw that was mirrored
- 47:03in how I was investing and like investing in people and
- 47:06idolizing them instead of like now I've completely shifted how
- 47:10I see it, like being teammates. And it's been so much more
- 47:13empowering to like see that shift.
- 47:15And so like a lot of my clients struggle when they come to me to
- 47:19like be more authentic about the struggles they're experiencing,
- 47:23the challenges they have because they're like, that completely
- 47:25diminishes my authority. Like authorities like that
- 47:27buzzword that everybody wants online.
- 47:30They want to be an authority figure.
- 47:32And so they think that means showing the ways that you can
- 47:36you kill it and that you're amazing and not seeming like you
- 47:39have bad days or struggles, which like, I thought it was
- 47:41like that too. But in reality, the best people
- 47:44who like actually build authority in the way that you
- 47:47see them as somebody that inspires you rather than can
- 47:50save you, are the people who share their struggles and can
- 47:54say, I've been there and I have to constantly work at this.
- 47:57And so that's why I understand and I want to support you in
- 47:59doing that rather than save you because I've have these magic
- 48:02answers. And so I think the way that you
- 48:04show up completely changes the way that people see you, your
- 48:07relationships, the clients and the business.
- 48:09And it's a really common thing I see across coaching and the
- 48:12online world in general. Yeah, I mean, I, I love that,
- 48:15you know that because like for me, I agree.
- 48:18I think my, my belief used to be like, I don't poop.
- 48:22And that's just what it is. I was just like, I no one can
- 48:27know I poop. No, I, I, I was definitely of
- 48:31the mindset that like, I had to be on like I was someone that
- 48:34people were looking up to. I was someone that had to have
- 48:36the answers. I was somebody who had to never
- 48:39struggle and never cry and never have issues and never XYZ.
- 48:42I was like deeply ingrained that people were not going to hire me
- 48:46if I had a resistance or people weren't going to, you know,
- 48:49whatever it might be. And I think, you know, one of
- 48:53the initial pieces that broke that for me was when I share
- 48:57with like my innermost circle that my engagement was no
- 49:00longer. And I with that circle, it was
- 49:04people who were very close to me and like literally best friends,
- 49:07but also people who were clients like, and even just seeing the
- 49:11way that my clients had received that.
- 49:14And it wasn't like it wasn't this aspect of, you know, seeing
- 49:19me as weak or seeing me as broken or seeing me as like, oh,
- 49:22do you need a break? Do you want to step away from
- 49:24coaching? Like that wasn't even, I was so
- 49:26skewed about what the response was going to be.
- 49:29And so to have the response from people be almost like, wow,
- 49:32that's so inspiring that you've been showing up this entire
- 49:35time, even with XYZ happening, Like that's really inspiring to
- 49:40us to show that, hey, what we're navigating, we can keep going.
- 49:44And now kind of my perspective around authority is like for me,
- 49:47and even with some of the mentors that I've hired, like
- 49:49I've actually hired them because of their vulnerability.
- 49:52I've hired them because of their quote UN quote flaws, if you
- 49:55will, of what they perceive to be their flaws at the moment.
- 49:58And so for me, I really have re evaluated authority to really be
- 50:03the ability for someone to continue to persevere, not in
- 50:07the absence of resistance, but in the presence of resistance.
- 50:10Like it's like the, you know, someone killing it and, you
- 50:14know, crushing it with certain milestones or making money or
- 50:17whatever it might be. In a way, I'm like, OK, well,
- 50:20like if your life is a fairy tale, that's great.
- 50:22And like, well, technically for 30 seconds when you're scrolling
- 50:24on TikTok, that feels good. The reality is when you're in
- 50:27it, you want a coach or you want a friend or you want a support
- 50:30system that gets it not just in the highs but also in the lows.
- 50:34And so for me, it's changed the way that I invested as well,
- 50:38because like, I, I am both of us, both of us very familiar
- 50:43with George's crying at the retreat.
- 50:45Like he's a very emotionally expressive person.
- 50:48And again, it's like, hey, if he feels something, you're going to
- 50:50know it and he's going to express it.
- 50:52But the thing that that actually taught me in our mentorship was
- 50:56like, seeing him cry for the first time made me wildly
- 51:00uncomfortable. Like, wildly.
- 51:01Like, I was like, I got to get out of here because I didn't
- 51:03know how to handle it. I was like, this person.
- 51:06Yeah. Like, supposed to be the
- 51:07authority, supposed to be the person who's, like, got it all
- 51:09together. But then when all the judgement
- 51:11and the story started to dwindle away, I was like, whoa, this
- 51:14person's human, like super successful, has built billion
- 51:17dollar companies, but is also just human and is experiencing
- 51:22resistance or is experiencing overwhelm or imposter syndrome
- 51:26just like all of us. And I feel like more than it was
- 51:29a disconnection of people don't want to hire me for that reason.
- 51:32People don't want to work with me.
- 51:33I feel like it was actually the opposite.
- 51:35It brings people so much closer to you realizing how real and
- 51:40connected you really are because your lives are much more similar
- 51:43in your experience of them, even though the outcome is different.
- 51:47I think that's what gets me inspired now is like, we're
- 51:49going through the same things, but this person I'm hiring is
- 51:53getting different outcomes in the same reality.
- 51:56So again, kind of back to our past, we're both in the same
- 51:59path, but they're experiencing it in a much lighter way than I
- 52:02am. And now I'm curious to learn how
- 52:04they're doing that. And so I feel like it shifted
- 52:05100% for me as well in like how I was investing and also how I
- 52:10was understanding like what I wanted to be around to really
- 52:13figure out how I wanted to do business.
- 52:16Yeah. And also like to your point
- 52:19around George, like setting a precedent for like expressing
- 52:22emotions that like translates so much to business and clients.
- 52:26Because like if you have a client tell you as you mentioned
- 52:29that you seems like you don't have a bad day and you just
- 52:32like, you know, you don't struggle with this and this and
- 52:34this. It probably defaults to them
- 52:36because I experienced this too, asking strategy questions only
- 52:40constantly because they think, well, if Jasmine or if Kate or
- 52:44whoever else that at that level is focused on the strategy And
- 52:48like we don't show them first to like make them feel seen or
- 52:51create the emotion as part of the conversation that the
- 52:54conversation would consistently go back to strategy and like the
- 52:58business steps. When as you've probably seen it
- 53:03with myself and now with my clients, like I'll tell them,
- 53:05hey, like this is how I'm feeling.
- 53:07I've been like struggling with this.
- 53:08I kind of like I'm working through this.
- 53:09This is how this is what I've been going through and the chat
- 53:12and our group will blow up with all of them being like, Oh my
- 53:15God, I feel this way too where I just went through this or like
- 53:17he told me more about it. And it's like the most
- 53:19engagement in my coaching that I see is when I open up the door
- 53:24and I and I talk about all the things that are allowed because
- 53:27I think when we don't do that first, a lot of people think
- 53:30that that's not the direction they should be focusing on.
- 53:33And so they just default to the strategy.
- 53:34They're like, OK, that's what everybody talks about.
- 53:36Clearly like you've made this money, you've been successful
- 53:39with strategy. So like, that's where they will
- 53:41default in the conversation and it doesn't create the allowing,
- 53:44the allowingness, the willingness, the permission for
- 53:47it to go in that direction. And there were times where I
- 53:50realized like a client will be like, I had a client who was
- 53:54making like 6 figures per month and she was like on the verge of
- 53:57burning it all down. And she like called me on my
- 54:00phone, which like usually she'll never do.
- 54:02And she's like, hey, I just need to ask like, if you've ever felt
- 54:04this way? And I'm like, no, fucking should
- 54:06have felt that way. And I realized I wasn't sharing
- 54:08it because I thought it would weaken myself.
- 54:11But all it did was take away that option of that being a
- 54:14conversation off the table. And so over time, I realized a
- 54:17lot of my clients were asking me questions based off of strategy.
- 54:21And if I actually went deeper, like, for instance, one of my
- 54:24clients was asking me about going live on TikTok and like
- 54:27how to do it in a way that like calls in the right people and
- 54:30like can make sales while going live on TikTok because I think
- 54:32people are always talking about making sales live.
- 54:35And when I was asking her questions, what ended up
- 54:36happening was she was opening up about the fact that she's afraid
- 54:40to be seen because of certain things in her past.
- 54:42And she was like, I don't know who's going to come on my life.
- 54:44I don't know who's going to pop up and what questions they're
- 54:46going to ask. It makes me feel really
- 54:47uncomfortable. And so it was actually all that
- 54:49stuff. It wasn't like a strategy
- 54:51question. And so a lot of times when
- 54:52people ask a question, it's not 100% rooted in strategy.
- 54:56Like they can probably Google a lot of the answers or figure it
- 54:58out themselves. And I think coaches get
- 55:00frustrated because they're like, why is somebody asking me this?
- 55:02Like they know the answer to this, but there's probably
- 55:03deeper things going on. And we haven't created the
- 55:06safety or the permission for that to be part of the
- 55:09conversation or be a valid question to ask in the 1st
- 55:11place. And so that was a big shift I
- 55:13had to make this year. Yeah.
- 55:15I mean, I, I think that many times we, their strategy
- 55:20changes. Obviously as we know, like both
- 55:21of us live in the strategy bucket with people and there's a
- 55:24lot of things that in marketing and sales and offers and all of
- 55:27that can be refined 100%. But you know, it was, it's been
- 55:30really interesting because for me I was having the clarity.
- 55:34I was like, again, like some of the core tools I would say was
- 55:37starting to like question my beliefs and ask like, where did
- 55:41they come from and where were these perspectives and beliefs
- 55:45and values that I had ultimately built my business based off of?
- 55:48So I started to evaluate those. I started to really look at
- 55:51emotional regulation, which was when I was having resistance,
- 55:54realizing that pushing it down was only making it worse.
- 55:57And so because of that, the whole idea of like, Oh my God,
- 55:59I'm so sorry. I don't know why I'm crying.
- 56:01Those moments. Wow.
- 56:03Haha, funny. And me joking around, you know,
- 56:06I'm so like, I don't know why I'm crying and almost making it
- 56:09weird that I was upset were further reinforcing that me
- 56:13feeling and experiencing emotions were odd and therefore
- 56:15again, creating a narrative and a story around that when they
- 56:17came up again. But I think in in the business
- 56:20bucket. And I was curious as to your
- 56:23kind of thoughts on this. I feel like when I was out of
- 56:26alignment, I was like, F this. I'm not doing it this way.
- 56:30And I was going to bolt to the other side, like I was like, I
- 56:33was really in the very strategy bucket and I was OK, like I have
- 56:37these certain offers. If I was high ticket, I'm like,
- 56:38I'm going to go the other side. I'm going to build out a
- 56:40membership. And like, obviously, as you guys
- 56:41listen to this, I don't have a membership.
- 56:43So you know how that went down. But basically I had, you know,
- 56:46these clarity pieces of like, I'm going to do a course, I'm
- 56:48going to do a membership. And like, keep in mind guys,
- 56:50like I've told you over and over again, like I really love high
- 56:52touch point and high ticket. And so it was very like, if I
- 56:55don't want to feel this way, I got to get out of the feeling
- 56:58and I also, therefore I get to get got to get out of the
- 57:00structure that caused this feeling to occur.
- 57:03But what ended up happening is over this process, which right
- 57:06now, I would say I'm probably about nine months into like
- 57:08really deep discovery of making my business even more aligned.
- 57:12I'm not necessarily in the friction piece of it anymore.
- 57:15But what I've realized is like I kind of had to go from 1 extreme
- 57:18to the other extreme to then recenter to the middle and be
- 57:22like, OK, like this feels like home.
- 57:23And it was really like a hybrid of what I was doing before and
- 57:27some of the new ideas that I have.
- 57:29But it was interesting because it really strategically hasn't
- 57:32been like I thought it would be this like huge, monumental,
- 57:36total new business. To your point earlier, burn it
- 57:39to the ground, start over. Like I think when we think
- 57:42alignment, we think about which I again, when I was kind of
- 57:46having a smack in the face if I wasn't aligned.
- 57:48That's why I started crying because I thought I saw all the
- 57:50work that had to be done or that I thought had to be done in the
- 57:53path in front of me, when really they're actually it wasn't as
- 57:56much of the work in the business because the offers have pretty
- 57:59well stayed the same. I've made some adjustments when
- 58:02it comes to marketing. They're very small tweaks, yet
- 58:04I've never felt so aligned in my business as I do today.
- 58:07And so I'm curious for you, like that evolution from I don't love
- 58:11it. Like how do you feel you kind of
- 58:13experienced getting to center? Yeah.
- 58:16And I wanna know one of the most brilliant things you've said,
- 58:20which, I mean, the list of brilliant things you've said is
- 58:221,000,000 miles long. But saying, like, the constant
- 58:24recalibration has been so accurate to what it feels like.
- 58:28And you also gave an analogy to, like, a swinging pendulum is
- 58:31like when you lift a ball on a pendulum and you release it,
- 58:34it'll have like, these big drastic swings back and forth at
- 58:37first until it just like has small swings trying to find
- 58:40center. And that's what business feels
- 58:41like. I think a lot of people feel
- 58:43like if they're out of alignment or they hate things or they're
- 58:45not feeling good, that they have to go back to the drawing board,
- 58:48burn it all to the ground, which is literally what I did.
- 58:50And it only made matters worse because now I like removed all
- 58:53the mirrors and I couldn't. It feels like I was starting
- 58:55from scratch instead of taking iterative action on the
- 58:58foundation I've built. And so it becomes a lot harder
- 59:01when you try to reinvent the wheel.
- 59:04And sometimes you have to maybe go through your own version of
- 59:07that to like find your center, but it's really hard to build it
- 59:12from your brain. You have to take the messy
- 59:14action, realize what doesn't feel good, and you will probably
- 59:17come back to some semblance of what you originally had with
- 59:20nuances and how you execute. And so it brings me back to a
- 59:25book I was given at one of our retreats.
- 59:27The 10X is easier than two X where I think a big part of it
- 59:32is talking about, it's not about doing more work or doing things,
- 59:36quote UN quote, a completely different way.
- 59:38It's usually just the the steps that we were taking, taking them
- 59:41differently, and it's about who we are being in the process and
- 59:46how we are doing things and how we hit the notes instead of
- 59:49completely changing the song. So I think that a lot of people
- 59:52think when they want to find alignment or they want to build
- 59:54something that feels different, that they have to reinvent the
- 59:57wheel like you mentioned for yourself, but for myself too.
- 1:00:00You've seen me think I have to reinvent everything about
- 1:00:03myself. When I've come back to some
- 1:00:05semblance of what I've always had, just with slight
- 1:00:08differences in the identity of what it looks like and what it
- 1:00:12feels like and the nuances and subtleties that feel a little
- 1:00:16bit more aligned with myself. And it is a longer process.
- 1:00:19And I think people feel better with the idea of scratching
- 1:00:22things and restarting because it's like they can just get rid
- 1:00:26of everything that doesn't feel good.
- 1:00:27And you could just like throw it all away.
- 1:00:29But then you'll look around and be like, wait, I don't even know
- 1:00:31where to go now because I have nothing to work with.
- 1:00:34When in reality, it's probably not the entire structure.
- 1:00:36It's just like it's, it's like instead of tearing down the
- 1:00:39entire house, you probably just need to like paint the walls
- 1:00:41different color and like change some of the furniture.
- 1:00:44Yeah, yeah. And I, I, I realized that like,
- 1:00:48even for me, it was less about the evaluation of the pieces and
- 1:00:52then also more a matter of seeing how those pieces made me
- 1:00:56feel. So like, if it's like, you know,
- 1:00:59I like for me, I total transparency, had, you know, Co
- 1:01:06coaches and stuff like that and had I had moments in my business
- 1:01:10where I wasn't as deep in my offers as I am now.
- 1:01:13And what I realized was like, I thrive off of being like, which
- 1:01:18I know as I say that people can be like, Kate, you're so weird.
- 1:01:20But I thrive off of being on Zoom.
- 1:01:23Like I love being on calls. I love being behind the curtain
- 1:01:26of people's businesses. Like, and the idea of as I
- 1:01:29scale, which was like my old kind of, you know, motto, which
- 1:01:33was like, scale up. Pull yourself out of this, pull
- 1:01:35yourself out of that. I really needed to give myself
- 1:01:39the permission to say like, listen, if there's like this
- 1:01:41subsection of your business that you really fucking love, stay in
- 1:01:45it. Like that's your choice.
- 1:01:46It's yours. You're making it right.
- 1:01:48So I think the thing that also has really helped me was
- 1:01:50realizing like, I feel like I knew this, but I just needed the
- 1:01:53reminder really aggressively because I was so deep in the
- 1:01:56weeds of everything was to realize that like there really
- 1:01:59isn't a right way. Like there's ways that have data
- 1:02:03connected to them to say like, hey, this has worked for XYZ
- 1:02:06people. X percentage of people who do
- 1:02:07this see a lot of success with it.
- 1:02:10But I also again see like that as the left path.
- 1:02:13And it's like if you decide to carve your own way of like your
- 1:02:15offers work a certain way because that's what feels good
- 1:02:18to you, or you sell a certain way because that's what feels
- 1:02:20good to you, at the end of the day, it's your business.
- 1:02:25And I think the thing that has been a big word that I know both
- 1:02:28of us have shared, like in our conversations, both in my own
- 1:02:30journey and your journey, is this word of permission.
- 1:02:34Because I think sometimes when we have so much, so many
- 1:02:37narratives of like, this is business and this is business
- 1:02:40and this is a mastermind, this is a course and this is how it's
- 1:02:42done. You're like, OK, got it, got it,
- 1:02:43got it. And you go, go, go.
- 1:02:46But you never really take a second to be like, do I like
- 1:02:48this? Like, does this feel good to me?
- 1:02:51Because even though it might get outcomes, it may not feel right.
- 1:02:55And so sometimes when someone just goes, yeah, that's OK.
- 1:02:58Like if you don't want to do AB and C, like you could do that.
- 1:03:01And again, that that moment for me of that question of what if
- 1:03:03you did it your way? That was asked at 11:00 at night
- 1:03:06at a conference. I did not know that was going to
- 1:03:09be like my pivotal like type moment.
- 1:03:12And yet that's when it all broke in my brain.
- 1:03:16I never even allowed myself the opportunity to consider, wait a
- 1:03:21second, what if I just said, screw what's right, screw what
- 1:03:25XYZ is doing or this person tells me, or this one mentor
- 1:03:28says, like, what if I just was like, here's what feels good.
- 1:03:31I'm going to explore that. Not even say I'm going to do it,
- 1:03:34but I'm explore it. And I think that word of
- 1:03:36permission has been huge. And I again, to your point
- 1:03:39earlier, I feel like I needed this from a mentor.
- 1:03:42I needed to hear it from somebody else outside of myself
- 1:03:46to kind of give myself that like inner validation of like trust
- 1:03:49your gut, trust your gut. And even being around someone
- 1:03:51like yourself and seeing you put this into practice as well was
- 1:03:55like testaments. The fact of other people
- 1:03:58embodying these values of do it your way, do it your way.
- 1:04:02And I feel like when you get enough of a momentum, and to
- 1:04:05your point earlier, a support system, they kind of let you
- 1:04:08borrow their confidence in permission while you build your
- 1:04:12own. And that's really how I see it
- 1:04:14is like the people that I've hired or the people I have in my
- 1:04:17surroundings when I don't feel right, when I don't feel
- 1:04:20confident have been my support system that gives me the power
- 1:04:26to like, OK, like stay the course, trust yourself.
- 1:04:28And like, obviously you guys have even done that in personal
- 1:04:30buckets, right? Like I'm starting a whole new
- 1:04:32chapter of my life of what technically maybe some people
- 1:04:36would say is like getting more aligned and the pieces are
- 1:04:38starting to move together. But like, do I feel aligned
- 1:04:40right now yet? No, because it's just like, it's
- 1:04:43so messy to me. I'm so in that discovery, but
- 1:04:46I've borrowed the confidence of people who have the confidence
- 1:04:49in me. And so, you know, I'm curious
- 1:04:52for you, like, how much of this was permission for you?
- 1:04:56Like, do you feel like you always kind of knew, but you
- 1:04:58were just like, I just need someone to tell me it's OK?
- 1:05:01Or do you feel like it was just really a discovery thing of
- 1:05:04like, I didn't even know? Yeah, emotions are coming up all
- 1:05:08you say that cuz that really hits home.
- 1:05:10It the absolutely was like always there and I, I, I needed
- 1:05:13the permission, I think, and I got to have the permission by
- 1:05:17being in like the circles or in the world with people who are
- 1:05:22connecting more with people who don't have the structures and
- 1:05:25the boxes and allowing me to be me and seeing me and validating
- 1:05:30that the things that they saw. Like, I think so many business
- 1:05:33owners like are they're, they're missing out on a huge thing of
- 1:05:38like not being seen because they're being told to do things
- 1:05:40other people's ways. And so like the confidence gets
- 1:05:44kind of like dwindled because I see this all the time.
- 1:05:47They are being told to do it somebody else's way.
- 1:05:50And so they don't feel like they've been given the
- 1:05:52permission to be themselves, given the permission to do
- 1:05:54things the way they want to do it.
- 1:05:56And previously very confident people lose their confidence in
- 1:05:59the process, even it only takes like a year of that in business
- 1:06:03for it to be completely like hard for them to make a move
- 1:06:06without the permission. And I definitely felt that.
- 1:06:08I think also IA part of me knew that I wanted to help people
- 1:06:11with something that wasn't 100% a hard skill and more on the
- 1:06:14softer side. And growing up in the
- 1:06:17environment I grew up in where like if you were good at math
- 1:06:20and science or a brainiac or good at school, like you were
- 1:06:23the ultimate child or person. I didn't realize the value of
- 1:06:26what I was doing. I thought I was doing it because
- 1:06:28I felt like I needed it, not because it was valuable to the
- 1:06:31world. And I think I had a shame that
- 1:06:33something was wrong with me. And so I needed this thing that
- 1:06:37wasn't actually like good to need.
- 1:06:39When I realized that being in this these past few months
- 1:06:43together, that like the confidence and the the
- 1:06:47permission and being seen at all those things and seeing how
- 1:06:50helpful it is, not only for myself, but other people going
- 1:06:52through similar processes has been huge.
- 1:06:54And I didn't have that confidence when I first made the
- 1:06:56choices. And so that's why I like wavered
- 1:06:59so much and sticking to it. And so I love your term
- 1:07:02borrowing confidence because that's really what it was.
- 1:07:05And the ability to be seen for who I am for the first time was
- 1:07:09was was huge too. And so I think that's a lot,
- 1:07:11what a lot of people are struggling with is they're like
- 1:07:15born as these unique human beings and they have these
- 1:07:17unique gifts and this mission and they start the business with
- 1:07:20like this thing that they want to share with others.
- 1:07:22And they're like so passionate about this unique thing.
- 1:07:25And it just gets put into a box and then the color comes out of
- 1:07:29it and it's just black and white.
- 1:07:30And it's another variation of like all the other things in
- 1:07:33that niche or every other way people are doing it.
- 1:07:36And then they become really disconnected and they lose the
- 1:07:40confidence and they wonder what they're doing because that spark
- 1:07:43and that uniqueness that they started with is not there
- 1:07:45anymore. And so I think it's all, it's
- 1:07:48all connected in a way, but the borrowing confidence has been
- 1:07:52huge. And I also realize now that like
- 1:07:56when I was doing content strategy for people last year,
- 1:07:59which, you know, my business has changed, a lot of what I was
- 1:08:02doing wasn't even content strategy.
- 1:08:04Like I would give them strategy and modules and stuff.
- 1:08:07And then I'd be on calls and what I would do is like tell
- 1:08:09them what I saw that made them different.
- 1:08:12And I'd be like, oh, client XY and Z, like you're saying these
- 1:08:15things and then you put up this content and it's like, so like
- 1:08:18everybody else, but then you're sitting here with this sense of
- 1:08:20humor, with this unique perspective and like none of it
- 1:08:22is online. And so that's why so many of
- 1:08:24them were able to like, multiply online was not because I had
- 1:08:29like this special formula was because I gave them permission
- 1:08:32and it let them borrow my confidence in them.
- 1:08:34And then also saw them for who they are and allowed that to be
- 1:08:37translated into their brands because that's really what
- 1:08:41builds real personal brands is being yourself.
- 1:08:43So, as floofy as that sounds, but yeah, be yourself A.
- 1:08:50Totally a little bit of a, a pivot question.
- 1:08:53Yeah. So I feel like obviously, you
- 1:08:54know, in in knowing you and and your journey and all of the
- 1:08:58pieces I'm thinking back to, I don't know why.
- 1:09:02And you guys always hear me joke about this.
- 1:09:03And also, if this is your name. Hi.
- 1:09:05But I have an avatar named Sarah.
- 1:09:07Don't ask me why her name's Sarah.
- 1:09:08Years ago, I decided her name was Sarah.
- 1:09:09And that's just what it's been ever since.
- 1:09:10So if you're Sarah, hello. But if you're like a Sarah, for
- 1:09:13example, who is out of alignment with her business, she's like,
- 1:09:18OK, like these gives me these give me some things to consider.
- 1:09:20I have to consider my perspective around how I'm
- 1:09:23envisioning the path I need to consider, you know, the
- 1:09:26strategies that I'm taking, considering getting that support
- 1:09:28system, really start to get those those tools in my toolbox
- 1:09:31for self regulation jazz. You're now really just like
- 1:09:39myself. I wouldn't say I am on the other
- 1:09:40side because again, I think it's constantly a work in
- 1:09:42development, but I feel like we are so leaps and bounds on the
- 1:09:46other side of if we were thinking about the two sides of
- 1:09:48like non aligned in line. I feel like it's a constant
- 1:09:51discovery. So I don't want to say it's
- 1:09:52done, but I feel like we like leaps and bounds from where I
- 1:09:56once was. I'm curious for the woman who's
- 1:09:59feeling right now listening to this, like she kind of knows her
- 1:10:01business is just not clicking and she wants to feel aligned,
- 1:10:06but she's like, how will I know that I've gotten there?
- 1:10:09Like, how will I know that I've really unlocked?
- 1:10:13Yeah, this is me. Like this, This feels good.
- 1:10:16Like, when you tap into who you are now and how you feel now
- 1:10:19compared to how you used to feel, what does it feel like
- 1:10:23when you're kind of in the zone of being fully aligned in your
- 1:10:28business? Like, how would you say that the
- 1:10:29what's the contrast? What's the after state?
- 1:10:31If you could describe it for someone who's really just
- 1:10:34feeling like she needs to tap into that, to borrow a little
- 1:10:37bit of your confidence right now because she might not feel like
- 1:10:40she has it like in this moment. Yeah, I think my question, I
- 1:10:47mean my answer might be limited because I truly have only felt
- 1:10:50more aligned within the last month since the last retreat we
- 1:10:53went on. Because before that I was just
- 1:10:54feeling a lot of after effects and like things I had to go
- 1:10:58through. But what how I feel now is I
- 1:11:03think it's even evident in how I ask questions.
- 1:11:05So like, I don't know if whoever's listening maybe may
- 1:11:08feel called out, but even as a client, like to Kate or to
- 1:11:12mentors, I would ask questions that would take like minutes to
- 1:11:15ask. And I would go around in circles
- 1:11:18and then say, I know, I'm sorry I'm taking so long.
- 1:11:20And then I have this thing and I didn't trust myself to even ask
- 1:11:23a question, let alone execute. And it was really evident in the
- 1:11:27way that I asked questions. And so if I listened back, I
- 1:11:30didn't even want to hear what I sent because I'm like, that just
- 1:11:34sounded like a, a vomit of all of the ways in which I already
- 1:11:38doubted myself before I can even even ask a simple question about
- 1:11:41marketing or whatever it was. And I think now it's not to say
- 1:11:44I'm perfect. Like I do send long voice notes,
- 1:11:46but I do feel like when I send them, it's just because I'm, I
- 1:11:48like to talk, not because I'm like spiraling.
- 1:11:51And so instead of feeling like a torpedo, I feel a little bit
- 1:11:54more like less spinning and more straight in the way that I
- 1:11:59communicate. And even something as small as
- 1:12:01that effects so much because it's it's a manifestation of my
- 1:12:05internal world. So like not only when I ask
- 1:12:07questions that way, but when I created content or made a
- 1:12:10decision, it was very like spiraling and back and forth and
- 1:12:14not confident and taking 2 steps forward, one step back and kind
- 1:12:17of like not being able to stick to consistent action.
- 1:12:19Whereas now I feel that I'm able to take actions without making
- 1:12:25it a story, making it proof that something's not right, making it
- 1:12:29evidence that I'm not good enough.
- 1:12:31I'm able to just like take the steps now and be able to like,
- 1:12:35outline what I need to do and stick to it instead of creating
- 1:12:38all the narratives and jumping to not knowing anything and
- 1:12:41jumping to labels and shame and connecting myself to every step.
- 1:12:47I also noticed that a big thing is I, when I was really out of
- 1:12:51alignment, I used to like hyper fixate on like what things were
- 1:12:54supposed to look like. And I insisted that every action
- 1:12:57and every input needed to have a certain output.
- 1:13:00And I insisted that every part of my business needed to look a
- 1:13:04certain way. And so I'd fixate on like step
- 1:13:06100 instead of even like taking step one or two.
- 1:13:09Whereas now I can see that I'm just like taking the steps and
- 1:13:12like, whatever happens out of it, I will deal with it when it
- 1:13:14comes instead of like I need to reinvent all my offers.
- 1:13:17Now I'm like, OK, let's just like market ourselves and like
- 1:13:20sell and like evaluate as we go. And then if the marketing isn't
- 1:13:23getting the results, let's just like go back to the drawing
- 1:13:25board instead of enveloping everything together and like
- 1:13:29making it a story and trying to look years down in the future
- 1:13:32and like see if it's the actual thing I'm supposed to do.
- 1:13:35Which I think people think seeking alignment is that when
- 1:13:37it's actually when you're aligned, you're just like taking
- 1:13:39the steps you need to take every day to move the needle forward
- 1:13:42and regulating yourself and moving like just .01% every day
- 1:13:47and then like seeing what happens.
- 1:13:50Which is like the opposite of what I think people envision it
- 1:13:52as. There is a huge piece of this
- 1:13:58which is like, I, I really think that there's this aspect.
- 1:14:03The huge overarching piece to me is this aspect of trust.
- 1:14:07Like it's a trust in yourself. It's a trust in the process.
- 1:14:10It's a trust in the path. It's a trust in yourself to
- 1:14:12figure it out. It's a trust in yourself of if
- 1:14:14it doesn't feel right, you'll navigate it.
- 1:14:16If it does feel right, you'll feel it.
- 1:14:18It's a trust in the feelings that are coming up right now.
- 1:14:20It's a trust that you might actually know what's better for
- 1:14:23your business than someone else who tells you this is the right
- 1:14:25way for your business. Which I know for a lot of people
- 1:14:28is very confusing because they're like, well, then why
- 1:14:30would I hire a mentor? The thing that I was going to
- 1:14:33say, because you mentioned it earlier about, you know,
- 1:14:36discovery of these pieces is I think the other thing is too,
- 1:14:38when you mentioned that you are enough, you help people to
- 1:14:41realize that they are enough in the way they are and that that's
- 1:14:43enough to market, that's enough for their offer, that's enough
- 1:14:45for their brand. And it's not about becoming
- 1:14:47somebody else or being something else.
- 1:14:49The thing that I I also want to know, which I know you're very
- 1:14:52aware of as well, is that there's a big section of the
- 1:14:55industry that really benefits from telling us that we're not
- 1:14:57enough and having us being convinced or not enough, right?
- 1:15:01And so I think, you know, obviously for both of us being
- 1:15:04business mentors, the thing that I think is really important is
- 1:15:07that we recognize that like the the mentors job is not to fix
- 1:15:11you, right? It's to I love you guys here.
- 1:15:16We talk about this in other episodes and I just love it
- 1:15:18because it sparked when you shared it of like the mirror.
- 1:15:20Like I find my clients even are a mirror for me and the areas of
- 1:15:24improvement for myself. You know, I am a mirror for some
- 1:15:28other people in their world, right?
- 1:15:29Or my mentors are a mirror for me like we really are.
- 1:15:34The goal of a mentor should be to help you to see what's
- 1:15:37already in the mirror because you just have a distorted view
- 1:15:41of it. Not because I need to change
- 1:15:42who's in front of it. And so I think I just really
- 1:15:46wanted to highlight that because I think it's really important
- 1:15:48for people who say, well, but I'm not enough, right?
- 1:15:50Like I'm consuming so and so on the Internet and they're here
- 1:15:53and they're doing this and they're hitting these milestones
- 1:15:55and they've got the big following and they've got the
- 1:15:57big sales. Like clearly I'm not enough
- 1:15:59because if I was enough, I would do that or be that or have that.
- 1:16:03And what I've realized is like, it's actually not about you
- 1:16:07becoming someone different, but actually realizing who the hell
- 1:16:10you are. That is actually the difference
- 1:16:12maker in you achieving that or having any of those things that
- 1:16:17you ultimately desire. But you have to recognize that
- 1:16:19when you do get that support, you have to make sure that it's
- 1:16:23not to the point of someone actually benefiting from you
- 1:16:27being broken. Like it's not the idea of like,
- 1:16:31hey, you're not enough until you work with me.
- 1:16:33It's like, hey, you are enough right now, but I really want to
- 1:16:37help you just like to see that and experience that and embody
- 1:16:40that. Do you want to take that journey
- 1:16:42with me? And so I just wanted to kind of
- 1:16:44add that distinction because I think sometimes even for myself
- 1:16:47in chapters in business, like I felt like I'm not enough unless
- 1:16:51I have what this mentor has in their toolbox.
- 1:16:54And then come to find out we all actually have the same toolbox.
- 1:16:58We just have different understandings of how the manual
- 1:17:00works. And so I think it really is it
- 1:17:03just an important piece because if someone, if you're out of
- 1:17:05place and I feel like jazz, you probably would agree with this.
- 1:17:09If you're at a place of lack of alignment in your business, you
- 1:17:11have to actually be very careful because you're very open, right?
- 1:17:14You're open and receptive, receptive to new ideas.
- 1:17:18You're open and receptive to new strategies.
- 1:17:19You're open and receptive to like, OK, like show me the way,
- 1:17:21show me the way, show me the way.
- 1:17:23And so back to those two paths again, if we have a person who
- 1:17:27says, hey, come with me, I have this path, it's perfectly lit.
- 1:17:30It's not it's not the option A or option BI have option C over
- 1:17:33here. And this is what you can do.
- 1:17:35And it's well lit and this is what it looks like and everyone
- 1:17:37goes down it and it's much easier.
- 1:17:39It can feel really easy, right to have somebody say like this
- 1:17:42is the way, because all you're looking for in those moments of
- 1:17:46alignment is like, just tell me, just tell me, just tell me.
- 1:17:48And I think one of the things that, you know, both of us have
- 1:17:50experienced is like, sometimes the best transformation hasn't
- 1:17:54actually been from someone telling you the right answer.
- 1:17:56It's from them letting you sit and help you discover what your
- 1:17:59answer was. And again, to your point
- 1:18:00earlier, that's not the answer that most people want to hear on
- 1:18:03this podcast. They're like, no, just give me
- 1:18:04the fucking blueprint, right? But that's a blueprint that's
- 1:18:07only going to last you 6090 days if you want to be in business
- 1:18:10for the next 6 to 9 years or 60 years, whatever it may be, pass
- 1:18:15it down a generation if you want to.
- 1:18:17It's going to really require you to understand it at a much
- 1:18:20deeper level and not take over someone else's belief of what's
- 1:18:23right for you, but you actually understand your own.
- 1:18:25So I just really want to add that because we said that
- 1:18:27earlier, I feel like that really just landed for me and started
- 1:18:30to get me going on. You know how I've really been
- 1:18:34selective about making sure when I'm not in alignment that I'm
- 1:18:37also conscious of how vulnerable I am in those moments and being
- 1:18:40really cautious about who I surround myself with and what
- 1:18:44their advice is in the pursuit of discovering what's right for
- 1:18:47me. Yeah, that was bars, Kate.
- 1:18:50That was that was, I was like I said, some of that stuff.
- 1:18:53That's crazy. That was so good we did earlier.
- 1:18:57And I'm like, what fucking point?
- 1:18:59Because that was so good. Anyway, I was going to say too,
- 1:19:02that I think that there's a narrative that you touched on
- 1:19:05perfectly and eloquently. I might be a little bit more
- 1:19:07blunt, but I've seen in the business mentorship world,
- 1:19:11people ask like how do they ask how do I scale like you did?
- 1:19:14How did I, how do I get the results that you got?
- 1:19:17And I see coaches say you hire me and I'm like, that's, that's
- 1:19:20kind of crazy that that's a response because that's not
- 1:19:23totally the long term sustainable option.
- 1:19:26Like you mentioned. It's a great point that you told
- 1:19:30me before when we were talking about tool boxes that everybody
- 1:19:32has the same and we use them differently and we have
- 1:19:35different paths. You it's kind of like borrowing
- 1:19:38somebody's clothes and wearing their clothes.
- 1:19:39Like it just doesn't feel right. And maybe you'll be able to like
- 1:19:42put together an outfit for two, but you or two, but you can't
- 1:19:45really like make it work long term or build your own closet
- 1:19:47with their clothes. And so I do think that there is
- 1:19:50a narrative that people portray or that is bought into that
- 1:19:55somebody else has the blueprint or framework and they market to
- 1:19:57that because they see that it's selling when they blueprint to
- 1:20:01or they market to the fact that they have the answers and they
- 1:20:03have the formula. It's been proven again and
- 1:20:06again. But I am of the very strong
- 1:20:09belief that every single person, as floofy as that sounds, has
- 1:20:12been put onto this earth for a special mission and for a
- 1:20:15special purpose. And so all it does when you buy
- 1:20:20into somebody telling you that they have the way to to see
- 1:20:22success is it robs you of the of the journey of being able to
- 1:20:28explore what you were really meant to do.
- 1:20:30And I think I even had that experience of like borrowing
- 1:20:34other people's ways for so long. And it took a while for me to
- 1:20:38come back home. And so I'm grateful like, I
- 1:20:40found you and did certain things in my life this past year to
- 1:20:44even recenter myself and come back home because that was a
- 1:20:47really hard thing to go through. And it will feel good in the
- 1:20:50moment when you're like making sales or you're winning and you
- 1:20:52like send the Slack message and they post it on their story.
- 1:20:55But all you'll feel later in the line when you are no longer with
- 1:20:58working with that coach or where you're sitting alone and you're
- 1:21:00left with the business is this isn't me and it's a sucky
- 1:21:05feeling to have. But I want to say that if
- 1:21:07anybody feels that, it's an empowering thing because
- 1:21:10awareness is the first step. And when you become aware of it,
- 1:21:12that's when you can change the pattern.
- 1:21:15And I, I love that you ended on awareness because awareness is
- 1:21:18also, you know, and I've talked to this in other episodes like
- 1:21:20once and Jazz and I could RIP on this for another hour.
- 1:21:23But when you see something in your business, you'll never
- 1:21:26Unsee. So that's the other thing when
- 1:21:29she says awareness is the first step, just to expand on that.
- 1:21:32When you see something that doesn't fit in your business
- 1:21:35anymore, it will continue to show up and it will continue in
- 1:21:39the frequency and the intensity of which it shows up until you
- 1:21:42address it. And so when she says awareness
- 1:21:45is the first step, when you become aware, that's an
- 1:21:48invitation for you to do something about it.
- 1:21:50If you're aware, you don't love your offer, if you are aware
- 1:21:52that maybe your team dynamics not working, if you're aware
- 1:21:55that your marketing kind of doesn't really feel like you,
- 1:21:57but it is getting results. So it feels a little confusing.
- 1:21:59You're aware that a certain dynamic or a friendship or a
- 1:22:02relationship or maybe a mentor that you're working with doesn't
- 1:22:05feel quote UN quote aligned, you know, to Jazz's point of home.
- 1:22:08I love that because that's how it felt in my business.
- 1:22:12Like I finally for the first time in a very long time, feel
- 1:22:15at home in my business in a way that I really haven't been for
- 1:22:18years, even though in those years I had massive success on
- 1:22:22what would consider to be like financially and all of these
- 1:22:25other aspects in me. The success wasn't there because
- 1:22:29it was a matter of the fact again, that home didn't feel, I
- 1:22:31didn't feel as safe and secure and excited and calm and present
- 1:22:36and centered as I do now. And so I just, I love all of
- 1:22:40that just so much. I also feel like guys, as we
- 1:22:42told you at the beginning, we can go for like 3-4 hours.
- 1:22:44Like there's definitely. You said four things and I was
- 1:22:46like, OK, I was like, OK, shut up.
- 1:22:49We have to, we have to put a pin in it because I could have, I
- 1:22:52could have responded that for another hour or two and asked
- 1:22:54you 4 questions. So.
- 1:22:58Yeah, no, we can just keep going and going and going.
- 1:23:00So maybe we'll have to do a Part 2 Jazz.
- 1:23:03But thank you so much for today. Like I feel like today was just
- 1:23:06it was such a good conversation. There were so many pieces and
- 1:23:09Nuggets here for for anybody who feels like they either are not
- 1:23:12aligned in their business or seeking deeper alignment in what
- 1:23:14they're doing. And so obviously, I am sure and
- 1:23:17you guys listening to Jazz, you're like, OK, like I want to
- 1:23:19consume all of her things. Where can somebody find you?
- 1:23:22Where can someone dive into just like hearing more of all of your
- 1:23:25goodness and wisdom? My Instagram is at Jasmine
- 1:23:29Swaggid, which I'm sure will be somewhere, but I don't have a
- 1:23:34website because as Kate knows, we've operated for a long time
- 1:23:37without websites and it's been fine, but now I kind of wish I
- 1:23:40have one. It's in the, it's in, it's under
- 1:23:41construction, so we're getting there.
- 1:23:43So yeah, my Instagram's at Jasmine Swaggid.
- 1:23:46That's like the best place to DM me, even if you just want to say
- 1:23:49hey, have a question or loved this or I hated what you said
- 1:23:53about that because it triggered me, DM me it.
- 1:23:55Let's chat. Or if you're like, I don't think
- 1:23:57I poop on social media, let's talk about it.
- 1:24:01Let's show people that you poop. So there you go.
- 1:24:05Yeah, yeah, that's what she does, guys.
- 1:24:07She did it for me. She did it for me and just for
- 1:24:09everyone who's going to be looking for her, because I know
- 1:24:11you're going to be looking it up.
- 1:24:12It is Jasmine, Jasmine. And the last name is SAWAGED.
- 1:24:19And so if you want to look her up on Instagram, highly
- 1:24:21recommend, go consume her stuff. This is like everything today is
- 1:24:25just jazz 24/7. By the way, this is not podcast
- 1:24:27jazz. It's just jazz Monday to Friday,
- 1:24:29Sunday morning, Saturday night, doesn't matter.
- 1:24:32This is just like basically what our conversations are when we
- 1:24:35don't have microphones in one of us.
- 1:24:36And so also, please make sure to just shoot jazz, jazz a note on
- 1:24:40Instagram. Like if there's something that
- 1:24:41you feel like really landed for you, maybe something that came
- 1:24:45through as an awareness for you, something that you know, she
- 1:24:48shared or I shared that really allowed you to get clarity.
- 1:24:51One of the best things that again as to Jazz's note earlier,
- 1:24:54that can be really impactful is when you have awareness or when
- 1:24:57you have learnings to be quote UN quote witnessed in that.
- 1:25:00And what that means is when you stated to somebody else or you
- 1:25:03share it to somebody else, it really allows the the impact of
- 1:25:07that and the compound of what you just did to really be
- 1:25:10solidified, to really be rooted in something.
- 1:25:13And so if you have an awareness, take a second right now, just
- 1:25:17sent her into maybe like a light bulb that happened for you, a
- 1:25:19download that happened for you, or maybe even an action you're
- 1:25:21going to take. And feel free to reach out to
- 1:25:23her because one of the, you know, most impactful things that
- 1:25:26you can do is be witness in your clarity, not just having it.
- 1:25:28So all of that to be said, thank you so, so much Jazz for coming
- 1:25:31on today was so good. As always, you guys.
- 1:25:33Thank you so, so much for listening.
- 1:25:35And we will be having probably Jazz back for a Part 2 at some
- 1:25:39point down the line because there's so much more to unpack
- 1:25:41here. So thank you so much, Jazz for
- 1:25:43coming on. And as always, you guys, we will
- 1:25:46see you next week. And all that being said, as
- 1:25:48always, stay ambitious.
