- 0:04Speaker 1: don't and don't do it for the reasons that people
- 0:09Speaker 1: on the outside would assume you're doing it, which is
- 0:13Speaker 1: uh for opportunity in and of itself.
- 0:18Speaker 2: This is bond to the game's fake in. Every maid
- 0:22Speaker 2: in line, running all the time lands.

- 0:59Speaker 5: This is the space where the children of iconic athletes, entertainers,
- 1:03Speaker 5: and cultural figures share the real story behind legacy, the pressure,
- 1:08Speaker 5: the privilege, the identity, and the purpose that comes with
- 1:12Speaker 5: growing up around greatness. Today's guest grew up inside NBA culture.
- 1:17Speaker 5: She is the daughter of Eddie Johnson, an NBA standout
- 1:22Speaker 5: and Phoenix Sons analyst whose career spanned over a decade
- 1:27Speaker 5: and left a lasting mark on the league through his scoring, ability,
- 1:31Speaker 5: longevity and leadership. Uncle Eddie is also my dad's bestest friend.
- 1:38Speaker 6: But today's conversation isn't just about who our father is.
- 1:42Speaker 6: It's about who she is and who she's becoming.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Police. Welcome my sister and dear friend, Jade Johnson.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Welcome Jane.
- 1:54Speaker 5: I'm so happy that you're here with us, like it's
- 1:58Speaker 5: been a long time coming. Yes, viewers, this is Justin's sister.
- 2:04Speaker 5: So we had Justin on episode.
- 2:07Speaker 6: What three of season one, and his episode went crazy.
- 2:13Speaker 7: Everybody loved Justin so I was so touching. Yeah, he
- 2:18Speaker 7: really resonated with a lot of people.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Yes, yes, and viewers also need to know that, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 5: we grew up together and our dad's our best friends,
- 2:28Speaker 5: our mom's our best friends. So we go way back. Yes,
- 2:31Speaker 5: we do. We go way back, and so we just
- 2:33Speaker 5: want to hear your story. We heard Justin's, and I'm like,
- 2:38Speaker 5: I want, I want everyone to get to know Jade.
- 2:40Speaker 5: You're beautiful. You have so much going on, So first
- 2:44Speaker 5: and foremost, just kind of walk us through your upbringing.
- 2:47Speaker 5: When was I guess the first time you realized my
- 2:51Speaker 5: uncle Eddie was kind of a big deal, like he
- 2:55Speaker 5: was doing the thing.
- 2:57Speaker 8: You know.
- 2:58Speaker 1: It's interesting because I was a baby when my dad
- 3:03Speaker 1: was at the height of his career. He retired when
- 3:06Speaker 1: I was about eight, so my earliest memory actually was
- 3:11Speaker 1: in Greece. It was when he went overseas. He was
- 3:14Speaker 1: already in the NBA, but then he went overseas and
- 3:17Speaker 1: I remember kind of seeing him in that light around
- 3:22Speaker 1: that time. And then he left there and went to
- 3:25Speaker 1: Indiana and was with the Pacers, and then we went
- 3:30Speaker 1: to Houston, which is where we reconnected. So I watched
- 3:36Speaker 1: him consistently grow and develop. But I was a baby,
- 3:41Speaker 1: so it was really impactful on my childhood to see
- 3:45Speaker 1: that firsthand.
- 3:47Speaker 5: So I remember just mentioned the cats in Greece. Do
- 3:52Speaker 5: you remember that. Yes, he said cats will walk around
- 3:54Speaker 5: and they look so clean, and their fur was nice,
- 3:57Speaker 5: and they didn't have any callers. That was that part
- 4:00Speaker 5: of yes, are memory.
- 4:02Speaker 1: They were like our pets. Yeah, you know, we just
- 4:05Speaker 1: had so many cats that would just come and hang
- 4:07Speaker 1: out in front of the house. And Greece was a
- 4:10Speaker 1: beautiful place. Because I was so little, I don't remember everything,
- 4:15Speaker 1: but that stands out to me definitely.
- 4:18Speaker 5: So what did people assume about your life that actually
- 4:22Speaker 5: wasn't true.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I think people assumed that because I came from wealth
- 4:33Speaker 1: and success, that it was guaranteed for me in my
- 4:38Speaker 1: specific industry and my own pursuits and my goals I
- 4:42Speaker 1: think people think that my parents led up on me,
- 4:46Speaker 1: you know, but I was highly disciplined. Like this is
- 4:51Speaker 1: a little funny story, and when I was in high school,
- 4:54Speaker 1: my TV broke in my room and I didn't really
- 4:56Speaker 1: watch TV because my life was school, rehearsal, homework, sleep. Yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 1: and my TV broke and I was like, hey, Dad,
- 5:04Speaker 1: just so you know, my TV broke. Are you going
- 5:06Speaker 1: to fix it and put a new one in there?
- 5:07Speaker 1: And he was like, well, why you don't need to
- 5:09Speaker 1: watch TV? Like you go to school, you have rehearsal,
- 5:12Speaker 1: Like when do you have time to watch TV? So
- 5:14Speaker 1: that's the kind of discipline that was instilled in me.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Early my senior year of high school, I won a
- 5:21Speaker 1: small TV at our graduation party and I was so happy,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and everyone was like, why are you so happy, Like
- 5:32Speaker 1: you don't have a TV. And I was like, actually
- 5:33Speaker 1: I don't. Actually, yeah, actually I don't. I took it
- 5:36Speaker 1: to college with me, by the way, that little TV. Yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 7: So I remember Justine said he don't watch TV.
- 5:41Speaker 5: It runs in the family.
- 5:43Speaker 7: They just don't need it, you know.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I watch a ton of it's to study, you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: but you know, growing up, not.
- 5:49Speaker 5: So much, Okay, so people didn't I guess you would
- 5:53Speaker 5: say people would assume that you lacked discipline growing up
- 5:57Speaker 5: in this type of environment. But I know you, and
- 6:00Speaker 5: that's just something you've always been.
- 6:02Speaker 7: You've always been.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Extremely hardworking, goal oriented, and so it's interesting hearing our
- 6:09Speaker 5: stories and people were like, wait, you're not a spoiled brat.
- 6:12Speaker 7: No, especially if you know her mother. I mean, Auntie
- 6:15Speaker 7: Joy is not. She don't play that.
- 6:17Speaker 9: At all.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I mean absolutely, I mean I was in the kitchen
- 6:21Speaker 1: with her, I was learning, I was walking down the
- 6:25Speaker 1: hallway in the house because she's like, you know, one
- 6:27Speaker 1: day you might need modeling skills and she may be
- 6:29Speaker 1: put on heels and walk back and forth. You know.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I was expected to be at rehearsal. You know, my
- 6:34Speaker 1: mother was such a conduit between my growth as a
- 6:40Speaker 1: child and me as an adult fully realizing myself as
- 6:43Speaker 1: a woman. So they both had such a huge hand
- 6:47Speaker 1: and who I am.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Yeah, she seems like a guide.
- 6:50Speaker 6: I mean, just even growing up, just knowing her, she's
- 6:54Speaker 6: always guiding y just always giving advice and wisdoms.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 5: What how was the dynamic between you and your dad
- 7:05Speaker 5: growing up?
- 7:06Speaker 1: It was great. My dad has always been a phenomenal leader,
- 7:11Speaker 1: you know, So when you grow up with someone who
- 7:14Speaker 1: knows how to provide and take care of their family
- 7:17Speaker 1: and really other people as well, you are quickly shown
- 7:21Speaker 1: what it takes. And I think I was introduced to
- 7:26Speaker 1: high level leadership at a young age, so I could
- 7:29Speaker 1: be a leader in my own right. But you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: there's so much pressure that comes with being a child
- 7:38Speaker 1: of a successful athlete, Like there's always going to be
- 7:44Speaker 1: some energy around that that you have to fight, even
- 7:48Speaker 1: though it may not be true what people think, as
- 7:52Speaker 1: I know, you know, yeah.
- 7:55Speaker 5: And I'm sure your dad's presence in your life has
- 7:58Speaker 5: affected your dating and will be into that get into
- 8:02Speaker 5: that later.
- 8:02Speaker 7: But before we'll.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Talk a little bit just about the pressure and expectations
- 8:09Speaker 5: surrounding being a part of this league. I know we
- 8:11Speaker 5: touched on it a little bit, but Samar, I think
- 8:14Speaker 5: let's let's let's get into that a little bit. Okay.
- 8:17Speaker 6: So in your upbringing, expectation, identity, and pressure all come
- 8:21Speaker 6: with the territory.
- 8:22Speaker 7: So did you ever feel pressure.
- 8:23Speaker 6: To be a certain way or to live up to
- 8:25Speaker 6: something you didn't choose?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Well, in seventh and eighth grade, I decided to play basketball, Jade.
- 8:32Speaker 5: You actually weren't a bad player, thank you. You really were.
- 8:35Speaker 7: I feel like you were.
- 8:37Speaker 5: I think you were better at it than I was
- 8:38Speaker 5: because I played for all of thirty days and I
- 8:42Speaker 5: don't think I was as good as you.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Well, volleyball was like your thing.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Volleyball was. I'm just saying, like us growing up in
- 8:48Speaker 5: the basketball world, I feel like you were better at.
- 8:50Speaker 7: Basketball to play basketball, Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 1: But I also played with the crylic nails, so helped
- 8:55Speaker 1: me understand. Let me understand, Jade.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Jade was that girling. You'll have to know, like Jade
- 9:02Speaker 5: was a princess, like a little are you the ball?
- 9:04Speaker 7: Like this?
- 9:05Speaker 1: You know, I was doing what I had to do,
- 9:08Speaker 1: but I was just such a girly girl that it
- 9:14Speaker 1: was stressed my mom out to no end. I'd get
- 9:17Speaker 1: hit and she'd freak out like, oh, don't hit her.
- 9:20Speaker 1: My Dad's like she's fine, she's fine. I was captain,
- 9:24Speaker 1: but only because people liked me.
- 9:26Speaker 5: No, you were good, though, Jade.
- 9:27Speaker 7: Telling you you really were.
- 9:29Speaker 5: You could have you could have really pursued a career
- 9:31Speaker 5: in it if you weren't such a princess.
- 9:33Speaker 7: But the love wasn't there.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 7: I love the game.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Was no, I was on the bench thinking about my
- 9:38Speaker 1: next player. That wasn't a play on the court, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 1: but like what character I would play?
- 9:45Speaker 4: You know.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I loved being in the theater, but I think the
- 9:48Speaker 1: discipline that came with being in that environment, I also
- 9:53Speaker 1: became a better athlete, you know. So I applied that
- 9:57Speaker 1: to my life now as an artist. You know, like
- 10:01Speaker 1: just the discipline to get up and work out and
- 10:03Speaker 1: know how to train myself or know how to pick
- 10:06Speaker 1: a trainer like that came from those interesting years of
- 10:11Speaker 1: me being an athlete, being an athlete high school. No,
- 10:17Speaker 1: not high school, middle school, middle school athlete. I'm trying tool.
- 10:24Speaker 6: So did you feel like people had expectations or were
- 10:28Speaker 6: projecting the success upon you or did you put it
- 10:30Speaker 6: on yourself.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I think I put it on myself. I think it
- 10:35Speaker 1: was some external pressure as well, because it's just the
- 10:38Speaker 1: environment I was in.
- 10:39Speaker 10: You know.
- 10:39Speaker 1: My dad obviously played, my brother played at uncles who played,
- 10:44Speaker 1: friends who I knew that played, So I think I
- 10:47Speaker 1: just figured maybe maybe I could play a little bit.
- 10:52Speaker 1: But I also think it was an internal pressure for
- 10:57Speaker 1: me too to really maybe just cross it off my lists,
- 11:00Speaker 1: like okay, like I could have done that, but maybe
- 11:03Speaker 1: that's not the best path for me.
- 11:07Speaker 7: Okay, So when you decided, you said you were on
- 11:10Speaker 7: the on.
- 11:11Speaker 6: The bench thinking about your play, thinking about the next
- 11:14Speaker 6: play and role you would play. So to me, that
- 11:17Speaker 6: seems like you were protecting you were, you know, protecting
- 11:20Speaker 6: yourself and what you wanted for yourself.
- 11:23Speaker 7: So how did you do that?
- 11:25Speaker 6: How did you come and say, maybe you know basketball
- 11:28Speaker 6: is not for me, and now I want to become
- 11:30Speaker 6: who I want to become.
- 11:31Speaker 7: So when did that happen?
- 11:33Speaker 1: I think that naturally happened because even during that time,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I was still doing theater on some level, so my
- 11:40Speaker 1: heart was just there and I gravitated to where my
- 11:45Speaker 1: heart was naturally guiding me too. No one sat me
- 11:48Speaker 1: down and said, Jade, you know this is not the
- 11:50Speaker 1: way to go, or you know, we need to express
- 11:53Speaker 1: our concerns people, let me figure it out. I think
- 11:55Speaker 1: that's really good when you give a child the space
- 11:58Speaker 1: to figure it out for themselves, because then they can
- 12:00Speaker 1: create their own path.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Yes. Yes, So what inspired your acting and singing career?
- 12:07Speaker 1: What inspired my acting and singing career?
- 12:10Speaker 6: Or when did it start? Like when did there's always
- 12:13Speaker 6: a bug? Get we get bit by the theater bug.
- 12:15Speaker 6: So when did you get bit?
- 12:16Speaker 1: I went and I saw my friend in a play
- 12:19Speaker 1: and a local play in Phoenix, Arizona, and I just
- 12:24Speaker 1: sat there and thought to myself, this is what I
- 12:26Speaker 1: want to do. This is where I want to be.
- 12:29Speaker 1: No one told me I could do it, you know,
- 12:31Speaker 1: but I always knew I could sing a little bit,
- 12:34Speaker 1: but I was so shy, you know, people.
- 12:36Speaker 5: Would never know that shy.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Oh so shy asked me to sing, and I'd be like,
- 12:41Speaker 1: you sure, yeah, Like I was so shy, and eventually
- 12:45Speaker 1: I just couldn't stay away. I mean, growing up, I
- 12:48Speaker 1: may have been in like at least thirty to forty plays,
- 12:51Speaker 1: you know. I was just in the theater. It's all
- 12:54Speaker 1: I wanted to do. And then I started to kind
- 12:56Speaker 1: of move up in Phoenix and professional theater young. So
- 13:00Speaker 1: I was being guided by my leadership in that space
- 13:06Speaker 1: to cultivate my talent. And then I'm taking vocal lessons privately.
- 13:10Speaker 1: And my parents gave me a keyboard when I was
- 13:12Speaker 1: eight years old, and I started playing naturally, you know,
- 13:17Speaker 1: And so then I started playing piano. So I think
- 13:19Speaker 1: it just organically happened that way.
- 13:23Speaker 5: So what is it about performing, acting, and singing that
- 13:26Speaker 5: allows you to just express parts of yourself that you
- 13:30Speaker 5: couldn't otherwise.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Well, I think people assume that all artists and creatives
- 13:40Speaker 1: are extroverts. Okay, true, and I would say that I
- 13:47Speaker 1: as you guys, you guys know me, well, I can
- 13:49Speaker 1: be extroverted, but I've not always been very expressive with
- 13:55Speaker 1: my feelings and my heart. I think I've been kind
- 13:58Speaker 1: of guarded in my life and maybe scared to just
- 14:04Speaker 1: let people in on my vulnerability. And that's been the
- 14:09Speaker 1: main note from every acting teacher I've ever had is
- 14:14Speaker 1: you know, be yourself, be exists. You don't have to show,
- 14:18Speaker 1: just do it. And so I think it was my
- 14:24Speaker 1: way of letting my feelings out and letting my emotions
- 14:29Speaker 1: out in a space I felt was safe.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Say me.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I had to learn later that who I am is
- 14:35Speaker 1: who I am and it has nothing to do with
- 14:37Speaker 1: what I do, and I should be able to do
- 14:39Speaker 1: that on my own and like work on that on
- 14:40Speaker 1: my own. But it gave me the playground to like.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Kind of lift the veil a little bit and just relax.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Do you feel like growing up in this industry, you
- 14:50Speaker 5: had to naturally be very performative.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah, And that's not the goal even
- 14:57Speaker 1: as you know, a creative right now, it's not my
- 15:00Speaker 1: goal to try to be good, you know, like I
- 15:03Speaker 1: just want to be But at that age, there's such
- 15:07Speaker 1: an emphasis on being good and what it takes to
- 15:10Speaker 1: be good that I think who I am as a
- 15:14Speaker 1: person took a hit. Yeah, So it took me some
- 15:17Speaker 1: time to heal from all of that and realize, oh,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I'm expressing myself through music, through writing, through acting, and
- 15:26Speaker 1: I can apply that to my life separate from that
- 15:29Speaker 1: as well.
- 15:30Speaker 5: So what was the hardest or what is the most
- 15:32Speaker 5: challenging part about pursuing a career in the arts?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Which you say, the expectation of people who don't understand
- 15:42Speaker 1: what you're doing. They can't understand it's like management of that.
- 15:47Speaker 7: They don't know the process, they don't know. Most people
- 15:50Speaker 7: don't know.
- 15:50Speaker 6: And it's so funny that it's a great question because
- 15:53Speaker 6: people just think, oh, well you should just call Tyler Perry, right,
- 15:56Speaker 6: just call it yeah and just go on and on
- 16:00Speaker 6: this movie set.
- 16:01Speaker 7: You're like, okay, yeah, yeah, just go on to column.
- 16:05Speaker 5: What So what is the process? You both are in
- 16:09Speaker 5: the theater, you guys are in the art space. I'm not,
- 16:12Speaker 5: so I guess it's dummy it down for someone like
- 16:16Speaker 5: me who has no clue. So what does that process
- 16:19Speaker 5: look like?
- 16:22Speaker 1: Sorry, it's laughable because it's like why did we?
- 16:25Speaker 7: Why do you do it?
- 16:26Speaker 6: Like?
- 16:27Speaker 4: Why would you do this?
- 16:28Speaker 5: Like I don't know.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Well, I can give reference for some of the opportunities
- 16:33Speaker 1: that I have now and what it takes to do it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: So I just did the national anthem at the Suns
- 16:40Speaker 1: Versus next game. I just got back in town from
- 16:42Speaker 1: doing that. I've been doing national anthem since I was
- 16:45Speaker 1: I don't know ten everybody in Phoenix. I mean I
- 16:50Speaker 1: did basically every sports team in Phoenix and in LA
- 16:54Speaker 1: and so people think, Okay, you get up there, it's
- 16:57Speaker 1: just a minute and a half or two minutes, and
- 16:59Speaker 1: you just do it and that's it. But you're prepping
- 17:01Speaker 1: for like weeks in advance, what you eat, what you wear,
- 17:06Speaker 1: how it's gonna look when you get up there, and.
- 17:10Speaker 7: That song is hard.
- 17:12Speaker 5: It's hard here, not everybody, it is hard.
- 17:17Speaker 7: Yeah that's what I hear.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Well, then everyone knows it. So if you mess it up,
- 17:22Speaker 1: it's like they saying it. And then it's like and
- 17:26Speaker 1: then you're being compared to the best of the best,
- 17:28Speaker 1: and it's like, give me a second here. So I
- 17:33Speaker 1: think it's just that there's so much prep that goes
- 17:37Speaker 1: into just the smallest preparing for character. There's so much
- 17:41Speaker 1: prep that goes just into maybe just that one role
- 17:44Speaker 1: you get on film or that one scene that you
- 17:48Speaker 1: get to do. Like it's just more on the.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Behind the scenes side the auditions, and people don't even
- 17:58Speaker 6: understand that you have to be in to auditions. So
- 18:01Speaker 6: when you get an audition, that right there is a
- 18:04Speaker 6: win because one role can be like a thousand people
- 18:09Speaker 6: can go off of one role that has two lines.
- 18:13Speaker 6: The casting director has to sift through a thousand people
- 18:17Speaker 6: for one role, and everybody's beautiful, everybody's talented exactly.
- 18:22Speaker 7: So you get an audition that is a that's a win.
- 18:25Speaker 5: So if you get through.
- 18:26Speaker 6: The audition process and get one role that says, sir,
- 18:30Speaker 6: here's your coffee, you just beat out thousands of people
- 18:33Speaker 6: right there.
- 18:34Speaker 5: What it sounds like, It sounds like the sports industry
- 18:38Speaker 5: only a very select small if you can say that
- 18:42Speaker 5: they successfully have mastered this industry. So my question is,
- 18:48Speaker 5: before we talk about TS two and the project that
- 18:51Speaker 5: you're working on. Before we dive into that mentally, how
- 18:58Speaker 5: exhausting is it to try to guess fight your way
- 19:01Speaker 5: through this industry that only what point zero zero zero
- 19:06Speaker 5: zero five percent of the population can say that they've mastered.
- 19:11Speaker 5: How do you navigate that?
- 19:16Speaker 11: Girl?
- 19:17Speaker 7: You like, you're like, well, look, you either choose to
- 19:20Speaker 7: or you don't.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Why I tell people, you know, don't do this if
- 19:24Speaker 1: you just want validation.
- 19:26Speaker 7: Or money or money, don't.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and don't do it for the reasons that people
- 19:33Speaker 1: on the outside would assume you're doing it, which is
- 19:36Speaker 1: uh for opportunity in and of itself. Like, when you
- 19:41Speaker 1: love what you do, you're gonna find a way to
- 19:43Speaker 1: do it.
- 19:43Speaker 7: Yeah you have, Yeah, you have, you have.
- 19:46Speaker 6: That's one thing I have just just watching you over
- 19:49Speaker 6: the years, you have not ever given up, Like I mean,
- 19:54Speaker 6: every step of the way you've you've just found another outlet,
- 19:57Speaker 6: another way you've done an a I mean, you just
- 20:00Speaker 6: keep doing it and getting better and better. And it's
- 20:03Speaker 6: inspiring to watch it, really is.
- 20:06Speaker 5: I've done an incredible job just keeping your head above water.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Even during the times you probably felt like you were sinking,
- 20:15Speaker 5: you still stood. At the end of the day, and
- 20:18Speaker 5: so I want you to talk to us about your
- 20:21Speaker 5: publishing company. T S two and how that was birthed.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Well, I graduated from USC top of my class and
- 20:31Speaker 1: acting period, and I left USC and decided that I
- 20:37Speaker 1: was going to walk into rooms as a publisher my
- 20:40Speaker 1: first acting job, okay, And why I did that is
- 20:43Speaker 1: because I started to study publishing and I realized very
- 20:47Speaker 1: quickly that basically every dollar that meant something in the
- 20:53Speaker 1: industry was a business dollar. So if I go into
- 20:59Speaker 1: the room, it's just as an artists. That's like fifty
- 21:01Speaker 1: percent of the opportunity that I missed out on, which
- 21:05Speaker 1: I didn't want to necessarily be seen as a business person,
- 21:09Speaker 1: But artists are a business people ninety percent business ten
- 21:13Speaker 1: percent show. That was what I realized very quickly, just
- 21:16Speaker 1: from reading enough books. And so when I started TS two,
- 21:20Speaker 1: I figure it, Okay, well I'll go into these rooms.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I'll have a business and I'll see who actually wants
- 21:30Speaker 1: to align with me because of not just my talent
- 21:35Speaker 1: but my mind, and see if that can get me
- 21:38Speaker 1: more mentorship. And that's what happened. I walked into my
- 21:42Speaker 1: first room and I was like, hey, you know, I
- 21:44Speaker 1: have a publishing company. You know. I say I was acting,
- 21:47Speaker 1: but really this is what was happening. I was building studios,
- 21:50Speaker 1: I was working with songwriters like I was doing it.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I'm like, I have a company TS two And the
- 21:55Speaker 1: first executive whoever saw me properly was like, yeah, you're
- 22:00Speaker 1: also an artist, Like I see that right away, you know.
- 22:03Speaker 1: And I had done this performance of I Will Always
- 22:06Speaker 1: Love You at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and I
- 22:08Speaker 1: filmed it that I filmed and he saw that and
- 22:11Speaker 1: he was like, Okay, I want to work with you,
- 22:14Speaker 1: but I really want to work with you because you
- 22:17Speaker 1: know business. Yes, thank you most hi, Thank you yes
- 22:22Speaker 1: for guiding me to that perspective, because, for whatever reason,
- 22:27Speaker 1: a lot of people in power, either they'll take advantage
- 22:30Speaker 1: of you because you don't know, or they don't necessarily
- 22:32Speaker 1: want to deal with you intimately if you don't know,
- 22:35Speaker 1: because that's so much of it.
- 22:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I wasn't thinking about that when I was in school.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I just wanted to be on stage.
- 22:42Speaker 7: Yeah two mean TS.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Two stands for time, space and sound. Oh I love that.
- 22:49Speaker 5: So where do you see TS two in five years?
- 22:52Speaker 1: I want to be one of the leading independent publishers.
- 22:56Speaker 1: You know right now we're in a great space where
- 22:58Speaker 1: if you have a music cattle, you can place all
- 23:02Speaker 1: different types of work all over the industry. I have
- 23:06Speaker 1: songwriters that I work with a lot. I would love
- 23:08Speaker 1: to represent their catalogs and make tons of music with
- 23:12Speaker 1: them and just find different opportunities to place our assets.
- 23:15Speaker 5: And so as a publisher, again dumb it down for me.
- 23:20Speaker 5: So what is it that you do for the songwriters?
- 23:24Speaker 1: So it's both development and it's pitching. So so much of
- 23:29Speaker 1: my work when I got out of school was just
- 23:31Speaker 1: developing my catalog for an opportunity that I could pitch
- 23:37Speaker 1: my catalog.
- 23:37Speaker 7: We got it.
- 23:40Speaker 1: So you're both trying to create assets, be it for TV, film,
- 23:45Speaker 1: place on other artists. Like there's songs that I've made
- 23:47Speaker 1: them like I don't know if I'd sing that, but
- 23:49Speaker 1: so and so could sing that as the demos like
- 23:53Speaker 1: that exactly. And I mean the goal is to have
- 23:55Speaker 1: like fully fleshed out finished songs in your catalog. But
- 23:59Speaker 1: you can have a really strong demo and someone hear
- 24:01Speaker 1: it and go, hey, I can do something with that.
- 24:03Speaker 5: So you could like demo something to Beyonce. Absolutely, and
- 24:07Speaker 5: I got you.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Absolutely, I would I would love that, you know, beyond,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I got a.
- 24:13Speaker 6: Song for you, for you, So, who would be a
- 24:16Speaker 6: person who you would just love to pitch a song to,
- 24:19Speaker 6: or just to for somebody to sing one of your songs.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I would love to pitch a song to Shade. I
- 24:26Speaker 1: would love to pitch a song to. I mean, this
- 24:31Speaker 1: is like the just speak it out, speak see the wonder.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I'd love to work with him. I would love to.
- 24:39Speaker 1: There's so many, There's so many. I have so many
- 24:43Speaker 1: different artists that I love, both of the old generation
- 24:47Speaker 1: and the new generation. Some of this new talent that's
- 24:49Speaker 1: coming up I think is really great. But ultimately I
- 24:53Speaker 1: just want to have a song for every situation and
- 24:57Speaker 1: just continue to monetize my.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Well, we are going to pray for t S two
- 25:05Speaker 5: and we're going to pray much success over it. But
- 25:09Speaker 5: you are so you. You have beauty, you have brains.
- 25:13Speaker 5: You come from this life where just there the ceiling
- 25:18Speaker 5: is limitless. You have a strong foundation at home, you
- 25:21Speaker 5: have a father who has presented just a inspiring, just
- 25:27Speaker 5: role in your life. So when it comes to dating,
- 25:32Speaker 5: I'm sure you have You've had some challenges. I'm sure
- 25:36Speaker 5: it's it's been hard at times trying to find someone
- 25:39Speaker 5: who can fill the shoes of my uncle Eddie. And
- 25:42Speaker 5: again you come with brains and beauty and class, and
- 25:46Speaker 5: you know a specific lifestyle that you've lived. How has
- 25:51Speaker 5: that been for you? Dating wise?
- 25:54Speaker 1: And tomorrow will Yeah?
- 25:57Speaker 2: You know, why are we laughing already?
- 26:02Speaker 5: It's not easy. I look, do we have to parse
- 26:06Speaker 5: our words? Be candid?
- 26:08Speaker 6: We're so here's the question. Are you I mean you
- 26:14Speaker 6: could be single and not looking? So are you single
- 26:17Speaker 6: and looking?
- 26:17Speaker 7: Or are you like? Are you ready?
- 26:19Speaker 8: Like?
- 26:19Speaker 7: What do you want?
- 26:20Speaker 1: At this point, I would love for my husband to
- 26:23Speaker 1: find me in this cousin of my life because I
- 26:25Speaker 1: feel I've cultivated who I am as a woman now.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I needed time. I was not an early bloomer in
- 26:34Speaker 1: the sense that I understood myself and like what I
- 26:37Speaker 1: bring into a relationship and how I can partner with
- 26:40Speaker 1: a man. I just needed time, Like I wasn't the
- 26:43Speaker 1: person who was rushing into relationships either when I was younger,
- 26:47Speaker 1: because I think I just had to get to a
- 26:50Speaker 1: place where I felt like there was something for my
- 26:53Speaker 1: husband to lead.
- 26:55Speaker 7: You know.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Now it's like my husband could really run my whole thing.
- 26:58Speaker 7: I really don't know go ahead.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I don't have to be in control ever, but I'm
- 27:02Speaker 1: just grateful that, you know, if I do get booked
- 27:05Speaker 1: for something and I'm like, hey, babe, you know I
- 27:07Speaker 1: got to go to do this, that I could have
- 27:09Speaker 1: leadership over the life that I've cultivated for myself instead
- 27:12Speaker 1: of trying to figure that out later. But you know,
- 27:17Speaker 1: it takes a while to get to a place, at
- 27:19Speaker 1: least for me, it took me a while to get
- 27:21Speaker 1: to a place where you feel like confident that you're
- 27:24Speaker 1: ready to give someone that.
- 27:28Speaker 7: Power over you absolutely, you know.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And I don't attract the kind of man who doesn't
- 27:33Speaker 1: want that. So, I mean I attract all types of stuff.
- 27:38Speaker 7: So what are you attracted to, Like, what is it
- 27:40Speaker 7: that you're looking for? Specifically?
- 27:43Speaker 1: I'm attracted to a man who's confident and where he
- 27:46Speaker 1: is right now, Not that he has to be this this, No,
- 27:50Speaker 1: I just want him to be confident.
- 27:51Speaker 5: And where he is just whole within himself, outside of finances,
- 27:55Speaker 5: outside of the material things. You like, who you are
- 27:58Speaker 5: just standing with than yourself securefect.
- 28:02Speaker 1: You have to have a really strong spiritual foundation to
- 28:05Speaker 1: be able to help me, you know, get through things
- 28:08Speaker 1: with prayer and with ernest, you know, to like actually
- 28:12Speaker 1: survive what I deal with every day being in this
- 28:14Speaker 1: situation that I'm in and that myself, yes, and just
- 28:20Speaker 1: has to be great in leadership and not intimidated by
- 28:23Speaker 1: my social circle that I didn't ask for, I think,
- 28:26Speaker 1: because that happens a lot. Men get intimidated, you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: because they picture my dad standing there with the shotgut
- 28:32Speaker 1: and it's.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Like and they know who he is. They probably I
- 28:36Speaker 5: mean not intentionally, but they feel like they have big
- 28:39Speaker 5: shoes to fill. Yeah, So, well they do, period, they do.
- 28:44Speaker 1: But I'm not asking that you have the same level
- 28:47Speaker 1: of success that my father had. My dad's like five
- 28:50Speaker 1: Emmys in what are we talking about?
- 28:52Speaker 5: Yeah, and success looks differently for everybody, right, So absolutely,
- 28:56Speaker 5: And that's the thing.
- 28:57Speaker 1: That's why I'm like, just be confident where.
- 28:59Speaker 5: You are and who you know, where you're going.
- 29:01Speaker 1: So when I walk into a room with so and so,
- 29:03Speaker 1: you don't feel like you're, you know, having to prove
- 29:09Speaker 1: yourself and.
- 29:09Speaker 6: These people, it's like, just so, are those some of
- 29:12Speaker 6: the misconceptions that people have about you? Like what are
- 29:14Speaker 6: some of them that they think? But you're actually because
- 29:18Speaker 6: here's what I'm trying to do. If if he's watching, Okay,
- 29:22Speaker 6: if he's watching, what are some misconceptions that people think
- 29:25Speaker 6: just by looking at you or just knowing what you've
- 29:28Speaker 6: done over the years of what you want, what you
- 29:30Speaker 6: actually want, and what you're you know, what I'm saying,
- 29:33Speaker 6: which they need to bring to the table, or what
- 29:35Speaker 6: you bring to the table as well.
- 29:37Speaker 5: If he's watching, which camera shoes she looking at this one?
- 29:41Speaker 1: If he's watching, you know, Hi, you don't need to
- 29:48Speaker 1: be so concerned about fitting in to what has already
- 29:54Speaker 1: been built. Like I didn't actually asked to be here
- 29:58Speaker 1: in this situation. I just ribes survived here. But you
- 30:02Speaker 1: do need to know that I need leadership and I
- 30:06Speaker 1: need balance and I need support, and please don't bring
- 30:11Speaker 1: raging tornadoes into my established, somehow peaceful life. Yes, and
- 30:20Speaker 1: I would love to be submissive to whatever you have
- 30:23Speaker 1: going on.
- 30:24Speaker 5: We brought out the s word submiss.
- 30:27Speaker 6: There you have it. It's out there. So, uh, if
- 30:30Speaker 6: you're watching hit.
- 30:31Speaker 12: Her up on the d MT, this is Jade j Well,
- 30:41Speaker 12: I'm praying that mister Wright is watching this and he's
- 30:44Speaker 12: gonna slide up in them DM and say I'm ready
- 30:48Speaker 12: to get married, miss.
- 30:49Speaker 6: And you know, what and I hope it does happen
- 30:50Speaker 6: on her watch. Because we've been saying born to the
- 30:53Speaker 6: Game for Love.
- 30:54Speaker 5: I'm like, Evan, we need to we need to have
- 30:58Speaker 5: a dating show.
- 30:59Speaker 7: We were saying born to the game for love. We're
- 31:03Speaker 7: doing the you know, match making sessions.
- 31:06Speaker 6: But if you're gonna be the first one, that's even
- 31:08Speaker 6: like even better because you know we're invested in you
- 31:11Speaker 6: think of.
- 31:12Speaker 5: Think of the wedding, married of babies, like I'm just
- 31:17Speaker 5: thinking of it. It's gonna start here, so it's gonna happen.
- 31:20Speaker 7: All right.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Well, let's transition into the game.
- 31:25Speaker 7: Some games. The game.
- 31:27Speaker 5: We haven't been able to play games yet, all right,
- 31:30Speaker 5: So we're gonna play a little game. It's called Asking
- 31:34Speaker 5: for Friends. It's just you know, a little.
- 31:35Speaker 7: Keys funny here and there.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Okay, what is one thing you feel men get away
- 31:39Speaker 5: with more than women and wish that you could do?
- 31:46Speaker 1: I was gonna say everything, okay, everything. What is one
- 31:53Speaker 1: thing that men get away with you? Yeah, for sure,
- 31:58Speaker 1: definitely cheating. Uh, but I don't necessarily want to cheat,
- 32:03Speaker 1: so I would say I think they get away with
- 32:08Speaker 1: having their way.
- 32:10Speaker 7: Okay, they.
- 32:13Speaker 1: The like domineering energy like that authoritative like I'm going
- 32:17Speaker 1: to do whatever I want to do, and like they
- 32:21Speaker 1: treat life like a video game, like they really just
- 32:28Speaker 1: they get to kind of decide. I mean, I get
- 32:30Speaker 1: that they still have their own struggles and things that
- 32:32Speaker 1: they go through, but I think for women, we'll put
- 32:35Speaker 1: more in a box. It's like, don't get out of
- 32:37Speaker 1: this box. It's your box, and don't try to get
- 32:40Speaker 1: out of here. We've put you, agreed, And I think
- 32:44Speaker 1: for some women it's good when you let them, you know,
- 32:46Speaker 1: step into positions of leadership.
- 32:49Speaker 6: But also like they're considered strong, like if they if
- 32:52Speaker 6: they speak out or if they're very strong about something,
- 32:55Speaker 6: then they're just considered strong.
- 32:56Speaker 7: We're considered a bitch, are hard to deal with.
- 32:59Speaker 6: We're not allowed Yeah, we're trying to have masculine energy,
- 33:01Speaker 6: We're not allowed to voice and be passionate. We just
- 33:06Speaker 6: don't get the same exactly.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Audacity. You know, they're audacious and they.
- 33:14Speaker 7: They can say what they want, but we can't.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I actually would say too that I almost respect that
- 33:21Speaker 1: a man's going to do his best for him regardless.
- 33:23Speaker 1: I look for women who're like sacrificing things a lot.
- 33:26Speaker 5: I like that naturally, Yes, men naturally are more selfish,
- 33:31Speaker 5: and it's okay. Women, especially women who come across that way.
- 33:39Speaker 5: You're gonna have someone who kind of looks at you
- 33:41Speaker 5: and you're like, you're doing too much. Absolutely, you know
- 33:44Speaker 5: you're you're too selfish. You're only thinking about yourself. Don't
- 33:48Speaker 5: even talk about mothers wives, you know. The second you
- 33:53Speaker 5: don't pour him into your your marriage or your children,
- 33:57Speaker 5: some people look at you like, I know, by the
- 34:00Speaker 5: time we air this, it's not going to be trending anymore.
- 34:02Speaker 5: But Josh Allen's wife, the quarterback is that him for
- 34:07Speaker 5: the Buffalo Bills. His wife was presenting at the Golden
- 34:11Speaker 5: Globes during a playoff game that he had. Oh, they
- 34:15Speaker 5: were tearing her up really because they felt like she
- 34:18Speaker 5: was being selfish in that moment by not being at
- 34:22Speaker 5: her husband's playoff game. But she was also doing something
- 34:25Speaker 5: that was great for her and her career, and that
- 34:29Speaker 5: just wasn't acceptable for some people. So, yeah, that's a
- 34:33Speaker 5: great point that you brought up, so, you know, but
- 34:37Speaker 5: to be a man maybe in my next life, but.
- 34:39Speaker 7: I wouldn't trade being a woman.
- 34:43Speaker 5: But there are days I'm like, Damn, I wish I
- 34:46Speaker 5: was a man. It would be some things would have
- 34:49Speaker 5: just been a lot.
- 34:49Speaker 7: I wish I could walk around my shirt off.
- 34:52Speaker 5: I talked about.
- 34:56Speaker 7: I want a son. Yeah, we can't do this in
- 34:59Speaker 7: a pro That's so true.
- 35:01Speaker 5: You can do that for the sake of time. Let's
- 35:04Speaker 5: do one more. Yeah one, I have one. If you don't,
- 35:10Speaker 5: let's see this is fun. Do you think you could
- 35:12Speaker 5: have more than one best friend?
- 35:15Speaker 1: Yeah? I do. I think that people can serve multiple
- 35:22Speaker 1: purposes in your life, and you can have real support
- 35:27Speaker 1: from places you never even expected. A lot of my
- 35:30Speaker 1: closest friends, you know, are older than me. They were
- 35:34Speaker 1: like people in the industry became my friends, you know,
- 35:38Speaker 1: like my mentors became my friends. Like I like hanging
- 35:41Speaker 1: out with them a lot. You know, a lot of
- 35:45Speaker 1: my friends or friends I've had from my childhood, you know.
- 35:48Speaker 1: So I think you can. I just think when you
- 35:51Speaker 1: get a little bit older, you realize that not everybody
- 35:54Speaker 1: is meant to be in your life in the long term,
- 35:57Speaker 1: and then you kind of just respect the relationships that
- 36:00Speaker 1: have served you up until that point. So I think
- 36:04Speaker 1: you just have to know when it's time to not
- 36:08Speaker 1: necessarily be the closest to someone. But I appreciate all
- 36:12Speaker 1: of the close friends that I have. I feel like
- 36:14Speaker 1: they've helped me tremendously.
- 36:17Speaker 6: Yeah, so part B to that, can your best friend?
- 36:20Speaker 6: Can somebody else call your best friend their best friend?
- 36:23Speaker 5: Now I need to think about that. Choe, I would
- 36:31Speaker 5: be like, Chloe is your best friend? That's weird? Your
- 36:37Speaker 5: best friend? That does make sense?
- 36:40Speaker 6: Like riddle me that that's secondary?
- 36:44Speaker 5: No, that was fun. Guys. Okay, so we do something
- 36:48Speaker 5: special and born to the game. Everyone has to give
- 36:50Speaker 5: us their best impression impersonation, whether it's a phrase.
- 36:57Speaker 7: This is gonna be funny for a moment.
- 36:59Speaker 5: That perfectly captures their parents. And I think you and
- 37:02Speaker 5: I need to.
- 37:05Speaker 7: Uncle Eddie Mom.
- 37:06Speaker 5: What's gonna happen is we're gonna have to bleep it out,
- 37:09Speaker 5: like if we do theirs, it's gonna every other word
- 37:12Speaker 5: it's gonna have to get bleeped. So what's your give
- 37:14Speaker 5: us your best Eddie Johnson impression?
- 37:18Speaker 7: Wood?
- 37:19Speaker 1: He shut up? Why are you standing there looking stupid?
- 37:30Speaker 5: But the fact that's what it is. My dad be like, Eddie,
- 37:34Speaker 5: I hate you, I don't like you.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Where's Joy?
- 37:39Speaker 9: I just I just where's Joy?
- 37:41Speaker 5: I only like her?
- 37:41Speaker 7: I don't like you either.
- 37:42Speaker 5: What were my five outs?
- 37:46Speaker 7: I beat you?
- 37:48Speaker 5: I beat you in tongue? Were my five outs?
- 37:51Speaker 9: Oh my god?
- 37:52Speaker 6: Yeah, A story though, you guys, you guys, you guys,
- 37:54Speaker 6: you gotta get the friendship.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Oh my god?
- 37:58Speaker 5: So I were you.
- 38:02Speaker 11: Okay?
- 38:02Speaker 5: Sometime I quickly story time. I went to Arizona to
- 38:05Speaker 5: visit Uncle Eddy and Auntie Joy, and my dad was there,
- 38:09Speaker 5: of course, because he can't go anywhere. He can't be
- 38:12Speaker 5: in Phoenix without being under So I bought both of
- 38:16Speaker 5: them rocks. They didn't know. He just bought them, like
- 38:19Speaker 5: random rocks. And I'm like, we're gonna have a friendship ceremony.
- 38:22Speaker 5: I was like, everyone, get up. Everyone's in the living room.
- 38:25Speaker 5: I was like, everyone, I have an announcement. I said,
- 38:29Speaker 5: Uncle Laddie and Mike Whitson. I need you guys to
- 38:32Speaker 5: just stand in the middle of the living room. And
- 38:34Speaker 5: they're fussed and they're like, I don't want to stand
- 38:37Speaker 5: next to him, and I'm like, stand here, I said,
- 38:40Speaker 5: look at each other, and I said, and they're fussing,
- 38:47Speaker 5: I don't want to touch him. And your Mom's like,
- 38:50Speaker 5: you guys, just do it. Mariah really just wants y'all
- 38:53Speaker 5: do this, So they're holding hands and just like looking
- 38:56Speaker 5: at each other. And I pull out these rocks and
- 38:59Speaker 5: I'm like, here's a rock for you, and here's a
- 39:01Speaker 5: rock for you, and these rocks represent y'all's beautiful, everlasting friendship.
- 39:07Speaker 5: And I was like, I need you guys just to
- 39:09Speaker 5: hold them and just pray over them. And they're looking
- 39:12Speaker 5: at each other and they're like, what the fuck. They're like, Mariah,
- 39:16Speaker 5: you don't get this ship out of here. But as
- 39:18Speaker 5: quiet as it's kept, they both have their rock, definitely,
- 39:22Speaker 5: they both have it. So when they saw each other
- 39:25Speaker 5: after that whole little ceremony, my dad was like, Eddie,
- 39:28Speaker 5: do you have your rock? Do you have your rock? Eddie?
- 39:32Speaker 5: Mine's in mind? And I don't think Uncle Eddie had it,
- 39:36Speaker 5: And that hurt Dad's He was like, where is your rock, Eddie?
- 39:42Speaker 5: I don't see yours.
- 39:43Speaker 9: Oh man.
- 39:44Speaker 5: They love each other.
- 39:47Speaker 7: It's hilarious, so hilarious.
- 39:51Speaker 5: Do not ever go golfing with them. We're gonna do
- 39:55Speaker 5: a moment in your voice. So you've talked about how
- 39:59Speaker 5: singing is part of how you express yourself and if
- 40:03Speaker 5: you're open to it, we love to hear just a
- 40:05Speaker 5: few bars or performance. Yeah, the window until just a
- 40:11Speaker 5: part of you if you're open, yes, scared, scared, all right,
- 40:20Speaker 5: let's do it.
- 40:21Speaker 7: Okay, ladies and you're gonna give her, go ahead and
- 40:24Speaker 7: introduce her.
- 40:25Speaker 5: I like, I don't know how to introduce you, like
- 40:26Speaker 5: ladies and gentlemen, the J. Johnson singing.
- 40:31Speaker 9: Cot Yeah, but my heart is so.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Visual.
- 40:57Speaker 9: Hot is your.
- 41:00Speaker 4: In the middle.
- 41:01Speaker 8: You're what I believe in.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Oh, don't relieve, but I can't hear, easy to see it.
- 41:24Speaker 1: I'm kind of a fantasy.
- 41:28Speaker 2: They could contral.
- 41:33Speaker 7: It's not bad.
- 41:35Speaker 4: You want of meg bro, but.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'm a a long it's not another be and used
- 41:45Speaker 1: to sound asleep?
- 41:46Speaker 2: How do I looking at trees?
- 41:49Speaker 7: I'm like of carrying you.
- 41:50Speaker 9: Baby, carrying me?
- 41:53Speaker 11: Yeah, baby, call me from it did since I just
- 42:00Speaker 11: see you to hold me?
- 42:08Speaker 4: Capri said, hold me anywhere.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Hold me anywhere?
- 42:14Speaker 8: Oh that doesn't fade, And I'm afraid. Don't want to
- 42:23Speaker 8: reade baby bathe and I can't breathe can't breathe.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Easy to see.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I'm caught in a fantasy.
- 42:37Speaker 13: Oh yeah, yeah me card, Yeah, it's just not wanna make.
- 42:53Speaker 8: Yeah, lord, it's not a bee.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Hold me from a d sense?
- 43:05Speaker 4: Baby?
- 43:10Speaker 2: True love does and fame.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Oh ah.
- 43:40Speaker 2: H h, that's a kind I feel like a rout parent.
- 43:55Speaker 5: I just feel like, yes.
- 43:58Speaker 1: About it.
- 43:58Speaker 5: Go Jay, you gotta.
- 44:05Speaker 2: You, gotta go girl.
- 44:07Speaker 1: You all music platforms, right Marriott, Right now, That's what
- 44:12Speaker 1: I was gonna say.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Shout it out, talk about your legacy object. Yes, the song, Yes,
- 44:18Speaker 5: How did it come about?
- 44:20Speaker 2: The lyrics?
- 44:21Speaker 1: You know, it's so funny that song in particular had
- 44:26Speaker 1: so many different variations before it became this one. It
- 44:30Speaker 1: was just one of those songs that took on many
- 44:33Speaker 1: different forms before I settled happily on this one. And
- 44:38Speaker 1: so I co produced this song with the producer who
- 44:42Speaker 1: goes by Worldwide Dre and I had given him basically
- 44:47Speaker 1: the foundation of the beat, like I had already done
- 44:49Speaker 1: the majority of the work, and I was like, just
- 44:51Speaker 1: make this like what only you can do.
- 44:53Speaker 9: Do it.
- 44:54Speaker 1: And we had a few versions. And what I typically
- 44:58Speaker 1: do is all like freestyle. Who would beat with melody
- 45:03Speaker 1: and sometimes words if it comes, and then I'll take
- 45:05Speaker 1: my pen and I'll kind of fill in the blanks
- 45:08Speaker 1: from there like a puzzle. And it was an organic
- 45:13Speaker 1: approach that just ended up being something that I think
- 45:16Speaker 1: is a vibe. You know, you could listen to cot
- 45:17Speaker 1: in the car, you know, listen to Caught in your headphones,
- 45:23Speaker 1: you know, walking down the street, like it just has
- 45:25Speaker 1: that chill kind of vibe.
- 45:27Speaker 7: So what was the motivation behind the lyrics? You know?
- 45:32Speaker 1: Uh, the first few words of the song is, yeah
- 45:36Speaker 1: it was ages ago, but my heart is yours. Fear
- 45:39Speaker 1: been messing with my vision, but my heart is yours.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Caught in the middle, but you're what I believe in.
- 45:44Speaker 1: So it was this push and pull between do I
- 45:47Speaker 1: go forward with this person or do I stay where
- 45:50Speaker 1: I'm at. It's like, well I'm caught.
- 45:52Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, yeah, I love it. Well, you think it beautifully,
- 45:56Speaker 5: Thank you. I knew you would. Of course you execute beautiful.
- 46:01Speaker 5: So let's go into your legacy and okay, how you
- 46:07Speaker 5: want to leave it? Your your legacy object that you
- 46:10Speaker 5: brought today? What does that represent to you? What did
- 46:14Speaker 5: you bring today? And what does that represent?
- 46:16Speaker 1: So the first is simply put, it's a pen. Okay,
- 46:22Speaker 1: it's a pen because when I was a little girl,
- 46:26Speaker 1: I was sitting in my room writing poems and those
- 46:31Speaker 1: poems eventually became songs. So it started not necessarily at
- 46:38Speaker 1: a keyboard, but with a pen. Wow, you know, and
- 46:43Speaker 1: people I think underestimate the power like your vision, your story,
- 46:48Speaker 1: how you communicate, what you're able to execute. It comes
- 46:53Speaker 1: down to I think personally great storytelling. I think the
- 46:57Speaker 1: best storytellers in the world are the most successful people
- 47:01Speaker 1: in the world. And so the power of the pen,
- 47:05Speaker 1: it's for me. It's like, in the midst of everything
- 47:07Speaker 1: that's happening in the world and everything that's going on
- 47:09Speaker 1: around me, that keep my pen, you know, try to
- 47:13Speaker 1: control the narrative as much as possible about not just
- 47:15Speaker 1: who I am and what I represent, but why at
- 47:20Speaker 1: the end of the day. And this is so cute
- 47:22Speaker 1: because it's so kind of cute. So it's like representative
- 47:26Speaker 1: of my hometown. So that's my pen. And then you know,
- 47:31Speaker 1: I was going to settle on the pen, but I
- 47:32Speaker 1: was like, you know what this even if it's case,
- 47:36Speaker 1: you can kind of tell it means something to me.
- 47:38Speaker 1: But this was the first expensive but quality investment microphone
- 47:49Speaker 1: that I purchase myself. I invested in myself, and it's
- 47:57Speaker 1: annoymen and I started on, uh, what was that? I
- 48:05Speaker 1: want to say it was a garl it it was
- 48:08Speaker 1: a blue spark. It was a blue spark mic it
- 48:11Speaker 1: was cheap mic, but it was like the best, like
- 48:14Speaker 1: starter mic for me. And then I graduated once I
- 48:19Speaker 1: had a little bit of money to spend to my
- 48:21Speaker 1: first professional and I would set this up in my
- 48:26Speaker 1: home studio and I've recorded some of the songs that
- 48:29Speaker 1: you'll find on Apple, Spotify, Pandora. They were recorded on
- 48:34Speaker 1: this microphone.
- 48:36Speaker 7: And you did it yourself.
- 48:37Speaker 1: You yourself, and yeah, so it's my baby. So those
- 48:42Speaker 1: are my two legacy objects.
- 48:45Speaker 7: Proud of you.
- 48:45Speaker 5: We are really proud of you girls. I'm proud of y'all.
- 48:48Speaker 1: This is amazing, what is even happening.
- 48:51Speaker 6: You're You're on our coun andodness, and we just can't
- 48:57Speaker 6: wait to see the things that you're going to do.
- 48:59Speaker 6: I mean, I'm just it's this. There is no sky,
- 49:02Speaker 6: you know. I mean, you could just keep going up
- 49:03Speaker 6: and up and up and up and up. It's only
- 49:04Speaker 6: up from here.
- 49:05Speaker 7: So we're so proud.
- 49:07Speaker 5: I'm proud to describe the legacy that you're building. If
- 49:11Speaker 5: you can, in three words, describe your legacy, put this away.
- 49:17Speaker 1: My legacy. My legacy is being a creator and using
- 49:34Speaker 1: my creativity and applying it towards my primary focus is
- 49:39Speaker 1: you know, if you go to my Instagram bio, it's
- 49:42Speaker 1: very clear actress, sorry, actress, singer, writer, you know, with
- 49:47Speaker 1: an emphasis and beauty, lifestyle but music. So my legacy
- 49:51Speaker 1: is to utilize my unique skill set to both be
- 49:54Speaker 1: a brand but partner with brands who need what I've
- 49:58Speaker 1: cultivated areas.
- 50:02Speaker 5: And you are well on your way.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Thank you guys.
- 50:06Speaker 5: You again. We're so proud and you are inspiring. You
- 50:10Speaker 5: have such a positive and beautiful spirit about yourself. And
- 50:15Speaker 5: keep glowing and keep going going blowing and going glowing
- 50:20Speaker 5: and going okay. And if there's anything that you could
- 50:25Speaker 5: say to your dad, what would you say?
- 50:29Speaker 1: Thank you? Thank you for everything you've given me to
- 50:35Speaker 1: be able to execute in life, but to also be
- 50:40Speaker 1: able to fulfill what I feel is my life's purpose.
- 50:47Speaker 1: And you and my mother, my mom, you've given me
- 50:52Speaker 1: all the tools next to what the most High has
- 50:55Speaker 1: given me. You've given me everything that I need to
- 50:58Speaker 1: be able to be me. And that's saying something because
- 51:03Speaker 1: it's hard to do this. So I love you both. Dad,
- 51:07Speaker 1: you're the best, still got the best jump shot ever,
- 51:11Speaker 1: and they they'll never be able to do it like you,
- 51:14Speaker 1: so they'll always try. But you're a legend and I'm
- 51:17Speaker 1: really really blessed to be your daughter.
- 51:21Speaker 5: Uncle Leddie Auntie Joy. We have one more surprise for you, Okay,
- 51:28Speaker 5: so we want to show you something.

- 53:34Speaker 1: Yeah. My grandfather was the first person to tell me
- 53:37Speaker 1: you better sing what it's time to sing? Got me
- 53:39Speaker 1: on my shell because I was so shy. And my
- 53:42Speaker 1: grandmother it was like the fashionistas where my mom is
- 53:45Speaker 1: the way to wait and she she taught me everything
- 53:51Speaker 1: about femininity and just you know what it means to
