- 2:59Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 3:00Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave, thank you, thank you for having.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Me, Thank you for being here. So tell us all
- 3:04Speaker 3: about the organization. I kind of butchered the names are
- 3:07Speaker 3: called the nursing This soci's actually Nursery West Virginia Nursery
- 3:10Speaker 3: and Landscape Association INK. Tell us about the organization. First,
- 3:13Speaker 3: what do you do that actually happens a lot?
- 3:15Speaker 6: I don't feel that.
- 3:17Speaker 7: We are a statewide professional trade organization of wholesil and
- 3:21Speaker 7: retail growers, nurseries, landscapers, green industry suppliers, so things like
- 3:27Speaker 7: hardscape mulch educators, public space maintainers, landscape architects, designers, and
- 3:35Speaker 7: we do some advocacy. We do education for provide education
- 3:39Speaker 7: for our members, concentrating on best practices, helping them to
- 3:43Speaker 7: be the best they can be. We offer Our biggest
- 3:48Speaker 7: education event of the year is coming up, as you
- 3:50Speaker 7: said on Tuesday, it's our Winter Symposium.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Looking forward to that very much.
- 3:55Speaker 7: We bring in speakers on a national level and of
- 4:00Speaker 7: course the Mountain States speakers as well, and it's really
- 4:03Speaker 7: an unusual opportunity for folks in the industry to hear
- 4:07Speaker 7: from those folks, you know. We have someone coming in
- 4:08Speaker 7: from Philadelphia, another from New Jersey. These are not folks
- 4:12Speaker 7: that you're going to hear locally otherwise, so they are
- 4:16Speaker 7: some real experts in their fields.
- 4:18Speaker 6: We have two.
- 4:19Speaker 7: Tracks the programming for the day has a design track
- 4:24Speaker 7: focusing on landscape design and a profit track focusing on
- 4:28Speaker 7: growing your business all kinds of techniques for that. So
- 4:33Speaker 7: on the design side, we have someone coming in to
- 4:36Speaker 7: speak about designing a garden for fragrance, which is different
- 4:41Speaker 7: from you most usually are designing for appearance. We have
- 4:45Speaker 7: someone talking about the importance of soil amendments and biochar
- 4:50Speaker 7: adding that to you what a difference that can make
- 4:52Speaker 7: if you add to your soil. We have a w
- 4:55Speaker 7: landscape architecture professor coming in to talk about and design,
- 5:00Speaker 7: giving a kind of a historic perspective and finishing out
- 5:03Speaker 7: on the design side, we have someone coming in from
- 5:06Speaker 7: Lumian Lighting that's going to talk about the evolution of
- 5:09Speaker 7: outdoor lighting, which is another component of green industry design.
- 5:15Speaker 6: On the business side.
- 5:17Speaker 7: We have Jody Schillian, who is a designed to build
- 5:20Speaker 7: sort of guru really for the industry, and he's going
- 5:23Speaker 7: to do a couple of sessions on taking design build
- 5:27Speaker 7: process from the call to initial call to the final payment.
- 5:30Speaker 7: And then I'm really excited about after lunch, we have
- 5:33Speaker 7: a panel discussion of experts on we have someone on taxis,
- 5:38Speaker 7: we have someone speaking about health and safety requirements for
- 5:42Speaker 7: your employees, and we have a Mitch woodrom Commissioner of
- 5:45Speaker 7: the West Virginian Division of Labor talking to us about
- 5:48Speaker 7: licensing and permitting. And it's going to be a really
- 5:50Speaker 7: nice opportunity for folks that are starting out a business,
- 5:55Speaker 7: trying to grow their business to we just to get
- 5:58Speaker 7: the tools.
- 5:58Speaker 6: To do it right.
- 5:59Speaker 7: We want to make sure folks are doing it the
- 6:01Speaker 7: right way, so they're going to be having opportunity to
- 6:04Speaker 7: ask questions. And then finally on that side of the programming,
- 6:09Speaker 7: we have Will Miller with the West Virginia Small Business
- 6:12Speaker 7: Development Center and he's going to talk about harnessing social
- 6:14Speaker 7: media i A for your marketing. Small businesses typically don't
- 6:19Speaker 7: have a big marketing budget, so he's going to provide
- 6:23Speaker 7: some tools for that.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Will's very good at what he does. Will is a
- 6:25Speaker 3: very good friend of mine.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Oh good.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Don't tell him my complimented him on the air. He's
- 6:30Speaker 3: very good. He's and he's a great uh, he's all around.
- 6:34Speaker 3: He's very good at what he does. And I'm sure
- 6:35Speaker 3: there'll be a lot of information available there well, some.
- 6:38Speaker 7: Really like as I said, some really good experts and
- 6:41Speaker 7: an opportunity to hear from them.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Talking with the Julie Robinson again from the west fordin
- 6:45Speaker 3: Nursing and Nursery and Landscape Association about their Wintersimposium, which
- 6:50Speaker 3: is happening next Tuesday at Embassy Suites here in Charles
- 6:52Speaker 3: so Dave Aland showing five Dye Live, brought to you
- 6:54Speaker 3: in part by snap Pittiness. Snap offers a wide array
- 6:56Speaker 3: of professional wellness services, including customized personal training, licensed recovery experts,
- 7:01Speaker 3: and staff of dietitians. Five great locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield, Barbersville,
- 7:05Speaker 3: and Milton. Visit snapfitness dot com for more details. Let's
- 7:08Speaker 3: talk about what kind of an industry this is nationwide.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I mean, this is a multi million, possibly billion dollar business.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Talk about that aspect of us.
- 7:17Speaker 6: And it's growing.
- 7:18Speaker 7: It's growing out through the entire country, of course, but
- 7:21Speaker 7: in West Virginia also growing recent years growth has about
- 7:25Speaker 7: been about six percent and in the upcoming year they're
- 7:29Speaker 7: expecting about a four percent growth. So with that comes
- 7:35Speaker 7: a need for a pipeline of qualified workers. So we
- 7:39Speaker 7: do some work with workforce development trying to get skilled
- 7:43Speaker 7: workers in place for our members. We've done that on
- 7:47Speaker 7: the high school at career tech level. On the community
- 7:51Speaker 7: college level, we've worked with the Jobs and Hope program
- 7:55Speaker 7: through Patriot Gardens. They've done they offer a loan and
- 7:58Speaker 7: landscape tech position and that we are sorry.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Training that we work with them on.
- 8:03Speaker 7: So those are all efforts that we are making trying
- 8:07Speaker 7: to get people to realize what great careers are available
- 8:10Speaker 7: in this industry.
- 8:12Speaker 3: And I would think maybe I'm wrong because technology takes
- 8:14Speaker 3: all different forms, but in the world of AI that
- 8:17Speaker 3: we're living in now, I think this is pretty much
- 8:19Speaker 3: an industry that's going to be around. I mean, there's
- 8:22Speaker 3: only so much that you can that that you can
- 8:24Speaker 3: do with computers here, right, and it's actually hands on
- 8:27Speaker 3: kind of stuff.
- 8:27Speaker 6: It is very hands on. Absolutely.
- 8:29Speaker 7: There are there are, of course, lots of behind the
- 8:31Speaker 7: scenes jobs and uh, but a lot the majority of
- 8:35Speaker 7: the work is going to be outside.
- 8:36Speaker 3: So that's I think I think this stuff is fascinating
- 8:39Speaker 3: as far as the from a business to always look
- 8:41Speaker 3: at the business standpoint about uh uh. And I don't
- 8:44Speaker 3: want to turn this political in any way, but I
- 8:46Speaker 3: won't ask you that. Just time for that later on
- 8:48Speaker 3: the show with other guests. Any concerns about with what
- 8:52Speaker 3: we're hearing in the news about uh, about political stuff
- 8:57Speaker 3: about changes to the industry or anything like that, and
- 8:59Speaker 3: any conn of course.
- 9:01Speaker 6: Always always our industry.
- 9:04Speaker 7: Some of our employers, not not all by any means,
- 9:07Speaker 7: rely on the H two be Visa program seasonal workers
- 9:12Speaker 7: program that brings in workers from other countries to fill
- 9:16Speaker 7: the jobs that frankly.
- 9:18Speaker 6: We have trouble getting Americans to fill.
- 9:20Speaker 7: And they are happy to do it, and they come
- 9:22Speaker 7: in and they are just there for the season that
- 9:24Speaker 7: they're needed. Some of this work is seasonal and it's
- 9:29Speaker 7: been a really great asset, but it has been very,
- 9:32Speaker 7: very frustrating for all along they've been they've capped at
- 9:37Speaker 7: at much.
- 9:38Speaker 6: Lower levels than the requests that are made.
- 9:40Speaker 7: These are people that are trying to bring bring up
- 9:42Speaker 7: employees in legally and fairly. They pay quite a bit
- 9:45Speaker 7: of money to do so, and they aren't allowed to
- 9:50Speaker 7: do it the levels that are needed. And of course
- 9:52Speaker 7: with the current administrations cracking down on immigration issues, that's
- 10:00Speaker 7: of concern, even though that is not at all with
- 10:03Speaker 7: the H two B program.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Right, yes, yeah, I'm very familiar with the program. Yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 3: all right, let's talk about the event next week again,
- 10:09Speaker 3: kind of recap at Force next Tuesday, Embassy Suite.
- 10:11Speaker 7: Okay, So two tracks design and profit. We have our
- 10:15Speaker 7: members annual meeting and breakfast. First at lunch, we will
- 10:19Speaker 7: be recognizing our some of our scholarship winners. We gave
- 10:25Speaker 7: really awarded thirty five thousand dollars in scholarships last year.
- 10:30Speaker 7: So these are two students that are both juniors and
- 10:34Speaker 7: seniors in like landscape architecture or horticulture. And then just
- 10:38Speaker 7: last year we introduced a scholarship and memory of George
- 10:42Speaker 7: Longenecker who was a longtime landscape architecture professor and horticulturalists
- 10:47Speaker 7: at WU. And so this is a scholarship we're offering
- 10:50Speaker 7: for full tuition reimbursement for a high school senior that's
- 10:54Speaker 7: been accepted and is entering the landscape architecture program at WU.
- 10:59Speaker 7: So it's a pretty sick a good amount of money,
- 11:02Speaker 7: an investment that this is all part of the effort
- 11:04Speaker 7: to help students and young people to realize the careers
- 11:08Speaker 7: that are available in the industry.
- 11:10Speaker 3: So where can people learn more if they're listening to
- 11:12Speaker 3: this right now and they say, this is something I
- 11:13Speaker 3: need to attend, I need to sign up for a
- 11:15Speaker 3: couple of sessions. I want to learn more about the
- 11:17Speaker 3: business aspect of where do they learn.
- 11:19Speaker 6: More at our website w v n l A dot org.
- 11:24Speaker 3: All right, and uh, a social media presence as well.
- 11:27Speaker 3: You get stuff out there on social media.
- 11:28Speaker 7: We do, right, We're on Facebook, of course. And Dave,
- 11:30Speaker 7: I would like to assomentor remiss. Our big project for
- 11:34Speaker 7: last year was the publication of Landscape Plants for West Virginia.
- 11:38Speaker 3: You brought me a copy of it. I get this autograph, sure,
- 11:41Speaker 3: and it's a splendid day. It's very I'm holding it
- 11:43Speaker 3: up to the microphone. Now. The funny thing about this
- 11:46Speaker 3: is is within a month or so the show will
- 11:48Speaker 3: be on camera. Uh, and so I can actually I
- 11:51Speaker 3: can point, I can point to it and say, look
- 11:54Speaker 3: here it is. Well, we'll go and talk about that.
- 11:56Speaker 7: But so it's it's a it's a wonderful guid it's
- 11:59Speaker 7: about a page just for color, kind of in a
- 12:02Speaker 7: catalog format by plant category, perennials, annuals, grasses, trees, and shrubs,
- 12:08Speaker 7: and these are all plants that will do well in
- 12:11Speaker 7: West Virginia. So it's got their planning, their planning needs,
- 12:15Speaker 7: sunlight needs.
- 12:18Speaker 6: All kinds of conditions that they will thrive in.
- 12:20Speaker 7: And these are all plants that our landscapers will would
- 12:24Speaker 7: use or a gardener at home would would be interested
- 12:27Speaker 7: in and doing. It's so important to get the right
- 12:30Speaker 7: plant in the right space. We want to be successful
- 12:33Speaker 7: and this would be a very helpful tool. We sort
- 12:36Speaker 7: of envisioned it as a guide for our members to
- 12:38Speaker 7: be able to take out like landscapers out on a
- 12:40Speaker 7: job and show show the client what they're talking about.
- 12:43Speaker 7: But it's also going to be available in garden centers,
- 12:46Speaker 7: our member garden centers throughout the state, so we'll be
- 12:49Speaker 7: making those available in the spring with folks are certain
- 12:52Speaker 7: to think more about this.
- 12:53Speaker 6: It's a great education tool.
- 12:55Speaker 7: W u's horticulture program is using it now, so that
- 12:58Speaker 7: speaks to the level of in it, I.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Think absolutely all right to Julie Robinson, as executive director
- 13:04Speaker 3: of the West Virginia Nursery and Landscaping Association. I appreciate
- 13:07Speaker 3: you being here. Big event next Tuesday at Embassy Suites,
- 13:10Speaker 3: So good luck with everything. Thanks a lot, Thank you, Dave.

- 16:42Speaker 3: A lot of planning has gone into it looks like
- 16:44Speaker 3: the weather is going to be okay, could maybe see

- 16:48Speaker 3: Hopefully Brian Hughes Spencer Adkins do something about that. We're

- 17:03Speaker 3: work has gone into it. Now it's almost time to shine.
- 17:05Speaker 4: We're here. We're here.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Tell from folks that haven't heard your previous interviews, talk
- 17:10Speaker 3: about the whole idea of where this idea to do
- 17:12Speaker 3: this Night the Shine came from.
- 17:13Speaker 11: So the Tim Tebow Foundation came together. I believe it's
- 17:17Speaker 11: been about back in twenty fourteen, so this will be
- 17:19Speaker 11: the eleventh year. They wanted to bring together communities and
- 17:23Speaker 11: those that are celebrated a little less than others and
- 17:25Speaker 11: give them the opportunity to really shine as the king
- 17:29Speaker 11: and queen that they are.
- 17:30Speaker 4: So they came up with this idea.
- 17:32Speaker 11: Local churches have come together to bring this out and
- 17:35Speaker 11: so it's a full on prom experience, completely free event
- 17:39Speaker 11: for anyone fourteen and over that's in the disability or
- 17:43Speaker 11: special needs community to just come and have the night
- 17:46Speaker 11: of their life.
- 17:47Speaker 3: And as we've been saying a Courtney since we had
- 17:49Speaker 3: you on from day one, I mean, this event is
- 17:52Speaker 3: happening at Capitol High School, but it's not just for
- 17:55Speaker 3: high school students. It's for anybody as long as they're
- 17:57Speaker 3: fourteen and up right.
- 17:58Speaker 11: Absolutely, there's no there's no cut off on the age,
- 18:00Speaker 11: just you have to be at least fourteen years old.
- 18:02Speaker 3: And I just keep thinking about, maybe, you know, the
- 18:07Speaker 3: stigma sometimes that surrounds these folks that it's a little
- 18:12Speaker 3: bit more accepted. That's accepted may not be the right word,
- 18:15Speaker 3: but then what it was years ago. So many of
- 18:18Speaker 3: these folks that are going to be coming to this
- 18:20Speaker 3: maybe didn't have the opportunity in the nineteen seventies or
- 18:24Speaker 3: nineteen eighties to attend an event like this.
- 18:27Speaker 11: There's one lady in particular that I can think of.
- 18:30Speaker 11: She was born in forty nine. I believe this is
- 18:33Speaker 11: her first prom. She's you know, on the special needs
- 18:37Speaker 11: end of things. Her parents would not ever let her go.
- 18:39Speaker 11: So she is so excited telling anybody she's finally going
- 18:41Speaker 11: to problem, She's going to prom.
- 18:42Speaker 4: And I mean she's in her seventies.
- 18:44Speaker 3: That's that's good stuff, right, really excited. That is awesome
- 18:48Speaker 3: right there? And again we're talking with the Courtney Elswig
- 18:50Speaker 3: about the Night to Shine, which is happening Friday night
- 18:53Speaker 3: at Capitol High School. Now are we in because again
- 18:56Speaker 3: we're just a few. I hate to scare you, but
- 18:58Speaker 3: we're almost hours away from this thing and half. Now
- 19:01Speaker 3: where are we as far as the timeline goes. I mean,
- 19:03Speaker 3: can people still sign up? But do we have enough?
- 19:05Speaker 3: I mean, uh, it's kind of okay, you can still
- 19:08Speaker 3: sign up. Okay, talk about that.
- 19:09Speaker 11: So if you want to volunteer, we can still use
- 19:13Speaker 11: all the all the volunteer help that we can set
- 19:15Speaker 11: up tear Down. If nothing else, just come cheer these
- 19:18Speaker 11: individuals on while we're walking them in, while they're walking
- 19:21Speaker 11: the red carpet, be there for them, hold signs. It
- 19:24Speaker 11: starts at five, so if you want to be there
- 19:26Speaker 11: a little beforehand, we will set that up outside like
- 19:29Speaker 11: out front of the Circle at Capital. If nothing else,
- 19:32Speaker 11: just be there to support them for that again, set
- 19:35Speaker 11: Up tear Down will be there most of the day Friday,
- 19:38Speaker 11: potentially some Saturday, depending on what we can get done
- 19:41Speaker 11: and how many volunteers I have. And then if you
- 19:44Speaker 11: if you want to be helped, you know during the
- 19:46Speaker 11: event parking, we'll need parking attendants things like that, people
- 19:50Speaker 11: to kind of show individuals where to go.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Then we can always use more guests as well.
- 19:54Speaker 11: We want this to be such a huge event, such
- 19:58Speaker 11: a great turnout. So yes, you can still register as
- 20:00Speaker 11: a guest. You can still register as a volunteer.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Would one will that cut off be for the red
- 20:04Speaker 3: I mean, when do you have to because I know
- 20:05Speaker 3: I planned advance in the past. You know you had
- 20:07Speaker 3: to have a head count for food and things that
- 20:09Speaker 3: are past that.
- 20:11Speaker 11: Okay, at this point we have made arrangements. We will
- 20:15Speaker 11: get it taken care of. We do not want anyone
- 20:17Speaker 11: to not be able to come.
- 20:19Speaker 12: Anybody.
- 20:19Speaker 4: We're not going to turn anyone.
- 20:20Speaker 11: If people show up that day, I'm going to use
- 20:23Speaker 11: you somehow some way to volunteer, or if you show up,
- 20:26Speaker 11: I may not let you be a buddy, but I
- 20:29Speaker 11: can I can use all the.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Human Explain the buddy thing, because you talked about that
- 20:35Speaker 3: when you were on the show before, about how you're pairing,
- 20:38Speaker 3: pairing these folks up with what you called buddies. Explain
- 20:40Speaker 3: how that how that works.
- 20:41Speaker 11: So every guest that we have, so every individual with
- 20:43Speaker 11: the disability or special needs is paired with someone that
- 20:46Speaker 11: is not in that group, so a non special needs
- 20:51Speaker 11: individual and that is just their person for the night.
- 20:53Speaker 4: If they want to go do karaoke.
- 20:55Speaker 11: Then that's your buddy's job to get you there and
- 20:57Speaker 11: make sure that you, you know, participate.
- 20:59Speaker 4: If you want to do the selfie booth, if you
- 21:01Speaker 4: want to.
- 21:01Speaker 11: Go for a limo ride, if you just want to
- 21:03Speaker 11: sit and eat all night, that's your buddy's job to
- 21:05Speaker 11: be there and make sure that that happens.
- 21:07Speaker 3: How do I sign up for that? Okay? And what when?
- 21:11Speaker 3: When they're there? You said you're going to try to
- 21:12Speaker 3: make this as much like a prom as possible. I
- 21:15Speaker 3: now you mentioned karaoke. What else is going on inside
- 21:17Speaker 3: that building?
- 21:18Speaker 11: So we have we have face painting, we have a
- 21:20Speaker 11: shoe shine station, we have hair and makeup like touch
- 21:23Speaker 11: up stations, a selfie booth, staged prom photos, karayo' heel
- 21:29Speaker 11: like we mentioned, limo rides the main dance floor with
- 21:33Speaker 11: the DJ. We have crowns and trs for everyone, jewelry
- 21:37Speaker 11: for you know, ladies that may want to add a
- 21:38Speaker 11: little something extra, ties and suit jackets for the men,
- 21:41Speaker 11: just a little bit of everything.
- 21:43Speaker 3: It's awesome. Corney Else Week is here from the Night
- 21:45Speaker 3: to Shine, which is Friday night at Capitol High School.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Dave Aland showing five idyl Ive brought to you part
- 21:49Speaker 3: by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If
- 21:52Speaker 3: you're injured, visit for the people dot com. Let's talk
- 21:54Speaker 3: about the buy in from the community on this and
- 21:57Speaker 3: the volunteers and the corporate sponsors and just the average
- 22:00Speaker 3: guys and gals that have come out for this thing.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Talk about talk about the buy in that you've seen
- 22:04Speaker 3: so far, and try not to choke up.
- 22:06Speaker 11: I know, gets more and more real the closer we
- 22:11Speaker 11: get it sets in a little bit more. The amount
- 22:13Speaker 11: of community support has been absolutely amazing, which we were
- 22:16Speaker 11: really hopeful for, and it they have.
- 22:18Speaker 4: People have really showed up.
- 22:20Speaker 3: I mean, it's what West Virginians do, but that's what
- 22:22Speaker 3: we do.
- 22:22Speaker 11: Absolutely we have guests registering from you know, hours away
- 22:28Speaker 11: because they don't have one close to where they are.
- 22:31Speaker 11: But we also have volunteers that are registering from hours
- 22:34Speaker 11: away because they are just so they just want to
- 22:38Speaker 11: be part of this so much that they're willing to
- 22:40Speaker 11: make that commute. They're willing to come and help in
- 22:42Speaker 11: whatever way possible. And it's just been great.
- 22:45Speaker 3: That's good stuff, rightier And so again it's all happening
- 22:48Speaker 3: Friday night and doors are going to open five ish.
- 22:51Speaker 3: What time will the whole thing be over? Do you
- 22:53Speaker 3: think so?
- 22:54Speaker 11: The actual events from five to eight and again just
- 22:56Speaker 11: kind of depends on what I have mad what time
- 22:59Speaker 11: we get out of said come Friday night, you are
- 23:01Speaker 11: probably going to be able to just mop the floor
- 23:03Speaker 11: with me.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh yeah, well you've been hard. You and your
- 23:05Speaker 3: other volunteers have been hard at this thing. So, as
- 23:07Speaker 3: I said, I mean I first heard about it sometime
- 23:10Speaker 3: well before Thanksgiving. So here's what here's our call to
- 23:14Speaker 3: action in the advertising business. We called it the CTA.
- 23:16Speaker 3: You know, the call to action. Here's a call to
- 23:17Speaker 3: action for you that are listening right now out there, folks.
- 23:20Speaker 3: If you are a business, if you uh, whether the
- 23:24Speaker 3: business employees of two hundred people or or employees two people, uh,
- 23:29Speaker 3: if you have a service that you would be willing
- 23:31Speaker 3: to donate. I mean, I know you've got a lot
- 23:34Speaker 3: of these things taken care of from Flowers, but you
- 23:35Speaker 3: can always use more and things like that. You need
- 23:39Speaker 3: to get involved. If you are the parent or grandparent
- 23:42Speaker 3: of a of a student, can your buddies be students?
- 23:48Speaker 3: They can be? Can they? Yes?
- 23:49Speaker 11: Okay, So we have guests that are fourteen. So we've
- 23:51Speaker 11: also paired them with you know.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so so so parents, grandparents, if your
- 23:56Speaker 3: kid is in public school, they are are required by
- 24:01Speaker 3: by by by regulations, by codes whatever to do community service.
- 24:06Speaker 3: This would be a great community service thing. Give up
- 24:09Speaker 3: a Friday night, tell them to put down the phones
- 24:10Speaker 3: for a while, and it's time to get out there.
- 24:13Speaker 3: And uh and and celebrate these these individuals. Yes, uh
- 24:17Speaker 3: So what's the best way for people to contact you?
- 24:19Speaker 4: So?
- 24:20Speaker 11: They can contact me through the church Facebook pages one way.
- 24:23Speaker 11: I'm an admin on there. So a Southeast Church of
- 24:25Speaker 11: the Nazarene were located in Keanall City. They can also
- 24:29Speaker 11: email me It's se Nazarene in t s for Night
- 24:34Speaker 11: to Shane at gmail dot com.
- 24:36Speaker 3: And I know you've got a very active social media too.
- 24:39Speaker 3: I mean, you know you've done what a what a
- 24:41Speaker 3: wonderful job that you have done with your social media.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Because I I was looking at preparing for the show
- 24:46Speaker 3: a little bit, seeing whatever I could add to the
- 24:47Speaker 3: other interviews we've done in the past about this and
- 24:49Speaker 3: uh and are you the one doing the social media?
- 24:52Speaker 3: You know, the one pretty much doing everything, aren't you?
- 24:53Speaker 3: But what's the team of volunteers.
- 24:55Speaker 11: Yes, absolutely, I do have quite the team with me.
- 24:58Speaker 11: And yes, you can find the the Facebook page for
- 25:01Speaker 11: the Night to Shine event.
- 25:02Speaker 4: I believe it's just Night to Shine.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 11: And the Charleston you'll see the pictures and all the information.
- 25:07Speaker 4: It's Charleston at Capitol High School.
- 25:09Speaker 3: And we do want to make sure people realize because
- 25:11Speaker 3: we had questions about this before, it is happening at
- 25:13Speaker 3: Capitol High School. But it's not just for Capital High
- 25:15Speaker 3: School students. It's for anybody, not just for students, I
- 25:18Speaker 3: mean anybody fourteen and up. There's a big buy in,
- 25:21Speaker 3: you know, from the Tim Tebow Foundation, also from your church,
- 25:24Speaker 3: the Southeast Church of the Nazarene in Kanas City. Not
- 25:28Speaker 3: a church event per se. This is just something that
- 25:30Speaker 3: you folks wanted to do to do something good for
- 25:33Speaker 3: the community. All right, I'm going to give you this
- 25:36Speaker 3: opportunity now to thank anybody because the event's not happened yet,
- 25:40Speaker 3: but you're going to be, you know, mia for the
- 25:43Speaker 3: next forty eight hours you try to get ready for
- 25:45Speaker 3: this event. Then you're probably going to be sleeping for
- 25:46Speaker 3: two days. Afterwards, you and your volunteers just go ahead
- 25:50Speaker 3: and I'll give you the final thirty to forty seconds.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Just thank people. Just do throw it out there. It's
- 25:55Speaker 3: your time, Courtney, go ahead.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Oh goodness.
- 25:58Speaker 11: I just want to thank everybody that thank you all
- 26:00Speaker 11: for having me on here. Thank all of the listeners.
- 26:03Speaker 11: Think that people that have shown up thus far. Think
- 26:06Speaker 11: the parents and caretakers that are letting us, you know,
- 26:09Speaker 11: have your child or your loved one for the evening
- 26:12Speaker 11: and just trusting us with that. And you know, I
- 26:14Speaker 11: do think my pastor for trusting me with this part Hotal,
- 26:17Speaker 11: the Pastor is health eas Church, and the Nazarene for
- 26:20Speaker 11: coming to me with this, and just just all the
- 26:23Speaker 11: support all of Charleston, all of West Virginia.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Just thank you so much.
- 26:27Speaker 3: It's what we do. It's what we do. Looking forward
- 26:29Speaker 3: to seeing the pictures too, because I'm sure you'll have
- 26:31Speaker 3: those up on the Facebook page afterwards. And again to
- 26:33Speaker 3: all the businesses here in the area and there's way
- 26:36Speaker 3: too many to name, and the sponsors that have that
- 26:40Speaker 3: have given their time. I mean, when we did the
- 26:42Speaker 3: first interviews, I could tell you people were calling the
- 26:44Speaker 3: front desk, people were texting me here saying how do
- 26:47Speaker 3: I get involved? How do I do this. I don't
- 26:49Speaker 3: have a lot to give or a lot of people
- 26:51Speaker 3: in my company, but we want to help. We want
- 26:53Speaker 3: to help with the food, we want to help with
- 26:55Speaker 3: the music. We want to do the lights or whatever.
- 26:57Speaker 3: And a big shout out to our folks across the
- 26:58Speaker 3: Hall of E one hundred two because I know Logan, Stephen,
- 27:01Speaker 3: Jenny and the team over V one hundred have been
- 27:03Speaker 3: a big part of this as well, So big shout
- 27:04Speaker 3: out to them. All right, Courtney, appreciate you being here.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Good luck with everything. Friday night, we'll have to have
- 27:09Speaker 3: you back on so you can give us an update
- 27:11Speaker 3: on how things went. Thanks a lot.
- 27:12Speaker 4: I'm excited, all right, Thanks a lot.

- 31:30Speaker 3: where we were before, but you'll be on camera.
- 31:33Speaker 12: That's yeah, we talked about that. I saw the rev.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Yeah, there they've been. They've been working a whole lot
- 31:39Speaker 3: down there on that t I was down there yesterday,
- 31:41Speaker 3: had a little meeting with the folks yesterday. It's gonna
- 31:43Speaker 3: be gonna be pretty nice. You step up your game, Cabiner.
- 31:46Speaker 3: I guess a little bit more hair jail or something
- 31:48Speaker 3: in there. Man, you don't want to see that. No, No,
- 31:50Speaker 3: I get it, all right. So this is a search
- 31:55Speaker 3: for Kanaw County school superintendent has gone on. We have
- 31:57Speaker 3: a story posted about it on the website. I think
- 31:59Speaker 3: you did an interview the news department as well. It's
- 32:02Speaker 3: almost the final decision time for a new superintendent here
- 32:04Speaker 3: in Kannak County schools. So would I know, you can't
- 32:08Speaker 3: talk about the folks, and I get that, but a
- 32:10Speaker 3: decision tomorrow next day, what do you think?
- 32:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know, as you know, this process started,
- 32:15Speaker 5: you know, doctor Williams who's served our county so well
- 32:17Speaker 5: for the past over forty years and several capacities, last
- 32:20Speaker 5: five as superintendent. You know, he announced that he was
- 32:23Speaker 5: retiring back in December, so we immediately started the process.
- 32:26Speaker 5: We wanted to make sure that this was a very
- 32:27Speaker 5: thorough and transparent process, and so that started, like I said,
- 32:30Speaker 5: in December, and then of course we opened up the position.
- 32:34Speaker 5: We advertised it through the month of January until about
- 32:36Speaker 5: the twenty fourth, and then we you know, we got
- 32:38Speaker 5: we got five applicants and we narrowed that down to two,
- 32:40Speaker 5: and yesterday we held two really incredible interviews and you know,
- 32:45Speaker 5: I got to tell you, like I said yesterday to
- 32:47Speaker 5: during my interview with Metro News, it's a hard decision.
- 32:51Speaker 5: I mean, we have two really, really good qualified candidates,
- 32:54Speaker 5: and you know, I'm just really really thankful for the
- 32:58Speaker 5: folks who've been a part of this process. My fellow
- 33:00Speaker 5: board members have been great throughout the process. You Know,
- 33:03Speaker 5: one thing we did which I was really happy to see,
- 33:05Speaker 5: is we we conducted a survey. We put a survey
- 33:08Speaker 5: out to all the Connell County Schools employees and we
- 33:10Speaker 5: got a really high return rate on that survey. We
- 33:11Speaker 5: asked them I think five key questions what they want
- 33:14Speaker 5: to see in the next superintendent. We used the answers
- 33:16Speaker 5: from that survey to form and shape our questions during
- 33:18Speaker 5: our interview process.
- 33:20Speaker 3: So it was great. So what when when you advertise
- 33:24Speaker 3: this or you put it out there that you had
- 33:25Speaker 3: an opening, What what were some of the things that
- 33:27Speaker 3: you were looking for.
- 33:28Speaker 12: Well, you know, I think any any school, any county school.
- 33:32Speaker 5: System, wants to see a leader, right, just a genuine leader,
- 33:37Speaker 5: someone who I would say, you know, doesn't lead behind
- 33:40Speaker 5: the desks, right, lead leads out in the in the
- 33:42Speaker 5: community and in the schools every day in some capacity.
- 33:45Speaker 5: And I think that was really important for us to
- 33:47Speaker 5: see somebody who you know, shows those qualities right up front.
- 33:51Speaker 5: And you know, beyond that, obviously, someone who's had experience
- 33:55Speaker 5: in the classroom. You know, that was something that was
- 33:57Speaker 5: on the survey that was really important to the to
- 33:59Speaker 5: the the employees of Paw County School Somebody who has
- 34:02Speaker 5: direct experience in the classroom, somebody who is really focused
- 34:06Speaker 5: on morale employee and a teacher and even student morale.
- 34:10Speaker 12: And I think the folks that we interviewed yesterday both
- 34:13Speaker 12: both showed.
- 34:14Speaker 3: That started Rick Cavn again, the President of the Canaw
- 34:16Speaker 3: County Board of Education at Dave Allen Show and five
- 34:18Speaker 3: eighty Live, brought to you in part by Husband's Pizza

- 34:29Speaker 3: Hustans and Husband's Pizza dot Com. Let's talk about the
- 34:31Speaker 3: tenure of the retiring school superintendent Tom Walls talking.
- 34:33Speaker 5: About sixteen you know, doctor Williams was still the deputy superintendent.
- 34:36Speaker 5: Of course doctor Durham was still the superintendent my first
- 34:39Speaker 5: term and then my second term is when when we
- 34:41Speaker 5: appointed doctor Williams as the new superintendent. And you know,
- 34:45Speaker 5: you can talk to any any person that is an
- 34:47Speaker 5: employee in Kannall County Schools and they will all say
- 34:50Speaker 5: the same thing that he is. You know, he's not
- 34:52Speaker 5: only a genuine leader, but just a really just a
- 34:54Speaker 5: really good person at heart. What I've witnessed over the
- 34:57Speaker 5: past eight years as a board member, and certainly doctor
- 35:01Speaker 5: Williams and members of his his team, they care about
- 35:05Speaker 5: the kids first, right that their most important when they
- 35:08Speaker 5: get up every day and they.
- 35:09Speaker 8: Go to work.
- 35:09Speaker 5: You can tell that they are focused on every student
- 35:12Speaker 5: in this county. And you know, we are the most
- 35:15Speaker 5: diverse county in the state of West Virginia where rural, urban, suburban,
- 35:20Speaker 5: you know, we cover the gamut and and.
- 35:21Speaker 3: It's a big old county. It's a big old as
- 35:23Speaker 3: I as I point out to people all the time,
- 35:25Speaker 3: especially my elected officials, I talk about if you're if
- 35:28Speaker 3: you're serving Kanawa County, whether you're a commissioner or a
- 35:31Speaker 3: board member or whatever, there's there can be a lot
- 35:34Speaker 3: of difference between you know, downtown Charleston and you know
- 35:39Speaker 3: someplace Campbell's creekt Tornado or I mean, it's.
- 35:42Speaker 5: A it's a big it's a big area, that's right,
- 35:44Speaker 5: And and you can tell that that doctor Williams is
- 35:46Speaker 5: his team. They recognize that every single day that that
- 35:48Speaker 5: one students needs may be completely different than another student's needs,
- 35:51Speaker 5: one you know, schools needs, one teacher's needs, one principal's
- 35:54Speaker 5: needs maybe different than that totally different than the other.
- 35:58Speaker 5: And they've really done a great job focusing on that.
- 36:00Speaker 5: And you can tell there's just a lot of really
- 36:02Speaker 5: deep respect for his leadership and his leadership team there
- 36:06Speaker 5: at Central Office, and so you know, we of course
- 36:09Speaker 5: looked to him through this process as well to advise
- 36:12Speaker 5: us as we went through it as superintendent, because you know,
- 36:15Speaker 5: we know it's not about the.
- 36:19Speaker 12: Person itself, but the position.
- 36:20Speaker 5: We wanted to make sure, you know, he's done such
- 36:22Speaker 5: an incredible job in his position that we wanted to
- 36:24Speaker 5: make sure to go to him for advice as we
- 36:26Speaker 5: went through.
- 36:26Speaker 12: This process as well.
- 36:27Speaker 5: So I can't say enough good words about you know,
- 36:30Speaker 5: his not only his five years of superintendent, but his
- 36:32Speaker 5: over forty years of you being in the Kennell County
- 36:36Speaker 5: School System.
- 36:37Speaker 3: The thing I have learned rick about dealing with education
- 36:40Speaker 3: folks in my time in the media is that for
- 36:44Speaker 3: people that do it and do it for a long
- 36:46Speaker 3: period of time, whether it's somebody who serves as a superintendent,
- 36:50Speaker 3: whether it's somebody that's a board member, whether it's somebody
- 36:52Speaker 3: that drives a bus or a teacher in the classroom,
- 36:56Speaker 3: if you're going to do it for any amount of time,
- 36:57Speaker 3: you really got to love it. You've got the love
- 37:00Speaker 3: the process.
- 37:01Speaker 5: You could you got you can tell that these folks
- 37:03Speaker 5: get They get up every day excited to go to
- 37:05Speaker 5: their jobs, right, And of course that to your point,
- 37:07Speaker 5: if they've been on it that long, let's hope that
- 37:09Speaker 5: they are exactly to get up every day and go
- 37:11Speaker 5: to their jobs.
- 37:12Speaker 12: But you can definitely tell that.
- 37:13Speaker 5: I mean, you know, and I could go one forever
- 37:14Speaker 5: about that, but but I definitely agree that you're when
- 37:18Speaker 5: you are. It's not only a job at that point, right,
- 37:21Speaker 5: It's it's a it's a devotion, it's a it's a passion,
- 37:24Speaker 5: and you can definitely tell that. And we're just really
- 37:25Speaker 5: lucky here in Kanall County. You know, folks, Folks reach
- 37:28Speaker 5: out to us all the time with their issues, their problems.
- 37:30Speaker 5: That's going to happen, right Teachers, parents, students, They're going
- 37:33Speaker 5: to have their issues.
- 37:34Speaker 12: That's going to happen in any.
- 37:36Speaker 5: School system, whether it's public, private, whatever. But there, I
- 37:40Speaker 5: can tell you there is a whole lot more good
- 37:42Speaker 5: that outweighs the bad as far as you know, the
- 37:44Speaker 5: every day not only every day operations, but just you know,
- 37:47Speaker 5: the how the kids are learning in the classrooms, the
- 37:51Speaker 5: programming we offer as a school system. And that's all
- 37:54Speaker 5: because of the leadership we have and it's I continue
- 37:57Speaker 5: to be really proud to be a part of this board.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Talking to Rick cap are getting the President of the
- 38:00Speaker 3: Kadawa County Board of Education at Dave Allen show in

- 38:16Speaker 3: zero four nine three two seventy four eighty eight or
- 38:18Speaker 3: email our client that's clined with a K K L
- 38:20Speaker 3: I N E at Meeksrealtygroup dot com. Rick, you know
- 38:25Speaker 3: a lot of things. This is going to be the
- 38:27Speaker 3: understatement of year. Things have changed a whole lot in
- 38:29Speaker 3: the world of public education. Even in the short time
- 38:31Speaker 3: you mentioned you were elected in twenty sixteen for the
- 38:33Speaker 3: first time. In the short time that you've been on
- 38:35Speaker 3: the board, the world of public education has has changed.
- 38:40Speaker 3: COVID was a part of that, but there were some
- 38:42Speaker 3: changes that were happening before COVID and certainly after COVID.
- 38:45Speaker 3: And I would think that whoever that is is named
- 38:49Speaker 3: as the new Kadon County School Superintendent as well as
- 38:52Speaker 3: the board members and the staff, you're going to have
- 38:54Speaker 3: to be kind of be aware of that and realize that, well,
- 38:56Speaker 3: the way that the school public schools were run in
- 38:59Speaker 3: night teen seventy six is not the way that you
- 39:02Speaker 3: run it in twenty twenty five.
- 39:04Speaker 5: That's right, you know, And it's it's funny you mentioned that,
- 39:07Speaker 5: because you know, one thing that we recognize through this
- 39:09Speaker 5: process is that it's really important that we have a
- 39:12Speaker 5: superintendent that that understands the value of making those really
- 39:16Speaker 5: strong connections. You know, not only with every single principle
- 39:20Speaker 5: in the county and you know internally, but there's also
- 39:22Speaker 5: an external role that a superintendent plays, right There's it's
- 39:25Speaker 5: really important that the superintendent as well as the board
- 39:27Speaker 5: members are making really healthy and strong connections with you know,
- 39:30Speaker 5: civic leaders, elected officials, community organizations, you know, local nonprofits
- 39:35Speaker 5: around the area that maybe serve students.
- 39:38Speaker 12: You know that that.
- 39:39Speaker 5: List is pretty vast, and I think it's important that
- 39:41Speaker 5: the that the the superintendent of Kennall County Schools has
- 39:44Speaker 5: that personality to be able to form those really strong
- 39:47Speaker 5: relationships because to your point, things have really changed, certainly
- 39:51Speaker 5: at the state level, they've changed. You and I've talked
- 39:53Speaker 5: at length in prior interviews about, you know, the issues
- 39:57Speaker 5: that we face in public school with, you know, seeing
- 40:00Speaker 5: our funds be diverted to other means of education due
- 40:04Speaker 5: to certain bills that have passed over the past few
- 40:07Speaker 5: legislative sessions, and frankly, those have done nothing but hurt
- 40:09Speaker 5: public schools. And so it's really important that especially our
- 40:13Speaker 5: local elected officials are working hand in hand with our superintendent,
- 40:16Speaker 5: with our board members to do what's best for every
- 40:18Speaker 5: single student and employee of the system before.
- 40:21Speaker 3: We let you go there. You know, a couple of
- 40:23Speaker 3: days the menfol came out about the National test stores
- 40:26Speaker 3: test scores. I should say we'd spend a little time.
- 40:28Speaker 3: I know Wilson and Meadows did a little bit on
- 40:31Speaker 3: talk line as well. They had to stay to school
- 40:32Speaker 3: superintendent Michelle Blatt on the show I think it was
- 40:34Speaker 3: on Monday's show. Any comment from you on as an
- 40:38Speaker 3: overall general on some of the test scores, because in
- 40:41Speaker 3: certain ways they weren't as I mean, they're never where
- 40:45Speaker 3: we want them to be no matter what, you know.
- 40:48Speaker 3: But but there were some troubling things, but also some
- 40:50Speaker 3: promising things that came out.
- 40:52Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, when it comes to test scores.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Me personally, and again, I'm a you know, I'm a
- 40:57Speaker 5: board member, right, I don't have an education background. Right,
- 40:59Speaker 5: I'm a board member that's a direct link from the
- 41:01Speaker 5: community to the school system, right where we board members
- 41:04Speaker 5: are not all in the education field.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:07Speaker 5: But what I'll say about test scores is that I've
- 41:09Speaker 5: seen many students leave.
- 41:12Speaker 12: Our system graduate from high school.
- 41:15Speaker 5: They may not have done the best in school, they
- 41:16Speaker 5: may not have had the perfect grades, they might have
- 41:18Speaker 5: not they may not have had the best test scores,
- 41:20Speaker 5: but they immediately went into a trade. We're extremely talented
- 41:24Speaker 5: in that trade, started their own business, and now are
- 41:26Speaker 5: very successful themselves.
- 41:27Speaker 12: Right. That college track maybe just wasn't right for them.
- 41:30Speaker 5: And you know that not everyone's test scores are going
- 41:33Speaker 5: to be great. We understand that, you know, I think
- 41:36Speaker 5: it is important that we continue to focus on them
- 41:38Speaker 5: because it is somewhat of a reflection of, you know,
- 41:41Speaker 5: the the quality of education. And I think we've seen
- 41:44Speaker 5: those go up over time. But again, you know, every
- 41:48Speaker 5: student has a different path when they leave. And I'm
- 41:51Speaker 5: very I'm very passionate about that. You know, I went
- 41:53Speaker 5: to a four year university, but not everyone is going
- 41:55Speaker 5: to do that, and like I said, there's gonna be
- 41:57Speaker 5: a lot of folks who leave go straight into their
- 41:59Speaker 5: work force, learn a trade, and they're going to do
- 42:01Speaker 5: really well. They're going to be successful and find their
- 42:03Speaker 5: own success in life. And so the best we can
- 42:05Speaker 5: do as a system is making sure we're providing that
- 42:07Speaker 5: world class education. And once again I'm more than confident
- 42:10Speaker 5: with the leadership team we have and whoever we end
- 42:14Speaker 5: up choosing tomorrow, I believe that we'll continue to be
- 42:17Speaker 5: able to offer that.
- 42:18Speaker 3: All right, Rick, I know it's been a difficult process,
- 42:21Speaker 3: as you said, to try to get a new superintend
- 42:23Speaker 3: It's going to be hard to replace because you've had
- 42:24Speaker 3: a run of a couple of good ones there with
- 42:26Speaker 3: doctor Williams and the doctor Dury and of course before that.
- 42:28Speaker 3: So hats off to you and the board on the search.
- 42:31Speaker 12: Yeah, thank you so much, Dave, always appreciate you having
- 42:32Speaker 12: me on.

- 46:17Speaker 3: be honest with you. People that want Kansas City to lose,
- 46:20Speaker 3: I say, hey, you know what, go beat him. Philadelphia's
- 46:23Speaker 3: playing really well right now. Sa Kwan Barkley probably the
- 46:27Speaker 3: best running back that's come down in the Pike in
- 46:30Speaker 3: a long long time. We'll see what happens. But regardless,
- 46:32Speaker 3: people are going to complain about the halftime show, you
- 46:34Speaker 3: know that. And they're just going to complain about the
- 46:36Speaker 3: halftime show. Speaking of the super Bowl on Friday, I
- 46:39Speaker 3: don't like to turn it into the Sports show, but
- 46:41Speaker 3: my good buddy Jim Workman from Wally and Whippy Sports
- 46:43Speaker 3: Digest is going to be on the show on Friday,
- 46:45Speaker 3: and he and I are going to talk about a
- 46:46Speaker 3: few things sports, including the release of the WVU football
- 46:49Speaker 3: schedule yesterday, and also we'll talk about the super Bowl
- 46:52Speaker 3: that's coming up on Friday. Show. Let me get to
- 46:54Speaker 3: some text here. Tex says, interesting how open and transparent
- 46:58Speaker 3: the new superintendent search can on County Schools has been
- 47:01Speaker 3: We are being played by the school board, is my bet.
- 47:04Speaker 3: I don't know what that's based on, but okay, Texas,
- 47:07Speaker 3: I disagree. I believe the board's first thought in the morning,
- 47:11Speaker 3: that's how to save money. That's why they're closing all
- 47:14Speaker 3: of these schools. Closing schools is not in the best
- 47:17Speaker 3: interest of children. It's all about finances. I think that
- 47:20Speaker 3: what President of the Board Cavender said there, though, is
- 47:23Speaker 3: that there has been a regardless and this is not
- 47:26Speaker 3: an opinion, this is a fact. There's a lot less
- 47:28Speaker 3: money coming in. And I'm not anti school choice by
- 47:32Speaker 3: any stretch of the imagination. I think it depends on
- 47:35Speaker 3: the kid, I think, and again I don't have kids,
- 47:37Speaker 3: but I think that some you know, you have one
- 47:39Speaker 3: child A who may thrive in a public school system
- 47:41Speaker 3: and child BE does not. And and there are more
- 47:45Speaker 3: choices now that parents have. You know, enrollment is declining,
- 47:47Speaker 3: not only because of declining population, but people are choosing
- 47:51Speaker 3: other alternatives to to to to school up their kids.
- 47:56Speaker 3: So you know it, you know, to use the overused
- 48:01Speaker 3: expression is what it is. Tex says, this is kind
- 48:06Speaker 3: of random, but it's okay. Last five minutes of the show,
- 48:10Speaker 3: Dave Musk and Trump are nothing but crooks and criminals
- 48:13Speaker 3: that are assessing people's personal records and finances. Let's see theirs,
- 48:18Speaker 3: says a texture. I wish Republicans says the texture would
- 48:24Speaker 3: drop their pair and just say they don't like minorities
- 48:27Speaker 3: instead of DEI that's a texture. But Dave Island showing
- 48:31Speaker 3: five ed nine Browns departed by Pinnacle Consultants. Their services
- 48:34Speaker 3: involved developing comprehensive management plans to outline strategies for controlling
- 48:37Speaker 3: and minimizing as bust of exposure, perfect for commercial property
- 48:41Speaker 3: owners managers. Visit Pinnacle court dot net because what you
- 48:44Speaker 3: don't know can hurt you. The governor yesterday announcing that
- 48:49Speaker 3: he has appointed Charleston attorney Ann Sharnock to the vacant
- 48:52Speaker 3: seat in District seventeen. Now that became open after Eric Nelson,
- 48:57Speaker 3: who was just elected to the supposted NOVA, opted to
- 49:01Speaker 3: take a job in the Morrissey administration as the new
- 49:04Speaker 3: state Revenue Secretary. So now those as we headed to
- 49:07Speaker 3: the session next week, those holes have been filled. As
- 49:11Speaker 3: the eighth district was just named a couple of days ago,
- 49:14Speaker 3: and I had Kevin Bartlett on the show. Who's the
- 49:17Speaker 3: new delegate out of the eighth on Monday Show? And
- 49:20Speaker 3: now we have in Sharnock, who's been around political circles
- 49:23Speaker 3: for some time. She will take over the seat formerly
- 49:26Speaker 3: occupied by Eric Nelson in District seventeen. And I will
- 49:31Speaker 3: work on getting in Sharonock on the show sometime before
- 49:33Speaker 3: the session. Always like to give an opportunity for new delegates,
- 49:36Speaker 3: new House members, new legislators should say, to come in
- 49:39Speaker 3: and to talk with us about things that they are
- 49:41Speaker 3: looking forward to. So we'll work on having her on
- 49:44Speaker 3: the show here in a couple of a couple of days,
- 49:47Speaker 3: maybe one day next week. Let me see, I got
- 49:50Speaker 3: a lot of texts I didn't get to Texas. So
- 49:55Speaker 3: those who start college next year and for years to
- 49:57Speaker 3: come will demand that their student loans be forgiven. Than what.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Once you go down the rabbit hole, it's almost impossible
- 50:05Speaker 3: to claw your way out, says a texture texter this
- 50:10Speaker 3: was from yesterday, said you do shrug your shoulders to
- 50:13Speaker 3: Trump's authoritarian actions. To paraphrase, you say, he just operates
- 50:16Speaker 3: by taking obviously illegal or reckless actions to distract from
- 50:19Speaker 3: something else or as a pretext for other actions. I
- 50:23Speaker 3: don't I think sometimes. I had somebody bring this up
- 50:26Speaker 3: to me yesterday about people that think that I, as
- 50:29Speaker 3: a host and my personal opinion that I somehow protect
- 50:33Speaker 3: Donald Trump. I think I've made my feelings very well known,
- 50:38Speaker 3: much to the chagrin of many people of my former party,
- 50:44Speaker 3: the Republican Party. I've made my feelings well known on
- 50:49Speaker 3: Donald Trump. I voted for him in twenty sixteen. I
- 50:52Speaker 3: did not, actually I did vote for me in twenty twenty.
- 50:55Speaker 3: Did not vote for me in twenty twenty four thank
- 50:58Speaker 3: he's danger to the country. However, there are a lot
- 51:02Speaker 3: of people that disagree. And on this show I like
- 51:04Speaker 3: to provide opinions of all kinds, and I do provide
- 51:08Speaker 3: mine from time to time. But to say that I
- 51:10Speaker 3: have been a protector or an apologist for President Trump, no,
- 51:14Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I cannot go along with that. Text says
- 51:22Speaker 3: just what this legislative body needs another lawyer, at least
- 51:24Speaker 3: a coal miner for Senate presidents. It's a texture under
- 51:29Speaker 3: the Big Dome. There's all kinds. There's a lot of attorneys,
- 51:31Speaker 3: there's a lot of business people. There are at least
- 51:34Speaker 3: two coal miners that I know of. Now what they
- 51:36Speaker 3: don't have is a radio talk show host, and I
- 51:39Speaker 3: just happen to have one that walked in the studio here, TJ. Meadows.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Now you know man, Well how about yourself? I'm all
- 51:46Speaker 3: doing well. Just I you know, me and Trump apologist,
- 51:48Speaker 3: That's what I am. Oh yeah, well, we all have
- 51:49Speaker 3: our rules to play, right. What's on the show this morning? Man?
- 51:52Speaker 20: We start out with Judge Tim Sweeney, Third Circuit Court.
- 51:56Speaker 20: He has that order out this morning that says the
- 51:58Speaker 20: new DOH secretary and others in the administration will have
- 52:02Speaker 20: to report to him to basically be CPS. Fill Ins
- 52:06Speaker 20: said he's tired of not having enough CPS workers trying
- 52:10Speaker 20: to get some attention, so we'll talk to him. Tiffany
- 52:12Speaker 20: Hobin with the Director of Education Partner. She is the
- 52:15Speaker 20: director of Education Partnerships and Strategy for the Cardinal Institute
- 52:18Speaker 20: at ten thirty three.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Jim Kaufman with the.
- 52:21Speaker 20: West Virginia Hospital Association at eleven six. Kent Leonhard at
- 52:25Speaker 20: eleven thirty three on Bird Flow.
- 52:27Speaker 3: All right, sighting the show. I will see you tomorrow.
- 52:30Speaker 3: My producers, Ryan Nicholson, thank you so much, see you tomorrow.
- 52:34Speaker 3: Till then, have fun and love somebody.
- 52:43Speaker 2: WHYWCHSAM ninety six point five that then Charleston one O
- 52:46Speaker 2: four point five Cross Lanes WUVRC Media Station.
