- 1:55SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: You good looking jerk.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: It's a good thing he's so good looking.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: It is, man.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: Look at him.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: He's magnificent.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Uh how you doing?
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Tired, man.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's I think that's that we're perpetually tired at this age.
- 2:11SPEAKER_08: Well, we're in our 50s now.
- 2:12SPEAKER_08: It's just it comes with the territory.
- 2:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I wake up, I'm tired.
- 2:16SPEAKER_08: It's true.
- 2:17SPEAKER_08: It's you know, yeah.
- 2:18SPEAKER_08: I'm still tired, you know.
- 2:19SPEAKER_08: I go to work, I'm tired.
- 2:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 2:21SPEAKER_08: I get done work, I'm tired.
- 2:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 2:23SPEAKER_08: Uh my wife I go to sleep, I'm tired.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: I I don't know how I do it, but I'm tired while I sleep.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: I get on my wife's nerves because I'm I'm on quote summer vacation.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: And one of the things I'm supposed to be doing is cleaning the basement.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, correct.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: And if you've ever been in our basement, you I walk in there and I look and I'm like, I don't even know where to begin.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: It's so overwhelming.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Anyway, uh I've done a little bit here and there, poking poking around.
- 2:47SPEAKER_08: I see a difference.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: And uh but you know, every day I'll go up and just kind of sneak in the bedroom and sneak an hour later, an hour and a half later, I wake up.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Just like, what have you been doing?
- 3:06SPEAKER_08: Um I was I was checking for I was checking for air holes in the in the roof.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: It's true, man.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: The roof is not leaking.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: I've been I've been taking naps in the afternoon.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Well, why not, man?
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, I get up at like four or five o'clock in the morning.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Not not voluntarily.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: It's just I wake up and I can't go back to sleep.
- 3:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: So you know you need a nap.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: I go to bed at like nine or ten.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: And it's still, it's I mean, it's six hours, but that's not a lot.
- 3:34SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 3:35SPEAKER_08: I don't know what I don't know for our age group.
- 3:37SPEAKER_08: I don't know what the minimum is.
- 3:40SPEAKER_08: Twelve is the minimum.
- 3:42SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 3:42SPEAKER_08: Well, I'm never gonna reach 12.
- 3:44SPEAKER_08: So I'm just gonna be perpetually tired.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: That's the name of the podcast, perpetually tired.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Perpetually tired.
- 3:50SPEAKER_08: So okay.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 3:52SPEAKER_08: Well, we got that, we got that part out of the way.
- 3:54SPEAKER_08: All right, I'm I'm Doug.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: No, wait.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Speaking of that, speaking of naming things, we had we had to um so many of you know that we have uh an acoustic duo.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Um, because you know we have the band Comic Crossing, but Comic Crossing uh we don't do much anymore.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Um not till the next album comes out.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Which is not anytime soon.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Shut up, video Doug! And so You didn't do any better.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: You and I do acoustic shows.
- 4:24SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: And we had a great one last weekend.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Surprisingly.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: It was you know, I was not looking forward to it, to be honest with you.
- 4:30SPEAKER_08: Well, it was only a thousand degrees in there.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: And and um but but the it was a great crowd.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: The crowd was great.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, crowd was great.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: We made it fun.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Yep, we had a good time.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Um, but we're booked for a show in October uh at the mountain, and the promoter, the person putting the show on, wanted to know uh if what to call us.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Because we go by Common Crossing Duo.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that hasn't sat well with me.
- 5:01SPEAKER_08: It hasn't with me, it's just too much.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:04SPEAKER_08: Just for two guys, I mean we might as well be, you know, big brother in the holding company.
- 5:09SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 5:10SPEAKER_08: You know, it just it's reminiscent of those big long brain names in the 60s.
- 5:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know, you know, Captain Zowelgur and the flying Dutchman dancers, you know, you know, that kind of thing.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: And so so my wife, we were too driving in the car last weekend, I think it was, and I told her that we were gonna have to come up with a name.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: And she's like, Why are you coming up with another name?
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: You know, because for for for marketing purposes, you should kind of remain one thing, you know, for a while.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: And and I was like, Well, you're taking all the fun out of it.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: But anyway.
- 5:45SPEAKER_08: So Well, if I had my way, and it wouldn't be very confusing, I would change our name every single gig.
- 5:55SPEAKER_08: How much how much fun would that be?
- 5:57SPEAKER_08: That would be just coming up with new names all the time.
- 5:59SPEAKER_08: Wait, that this is Brian and Doug.
- 6:02SPEAKER_08: What?
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Who are the barking wall spiders?
- 6:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 6:07SPEAKER_08: What the weren't weren't they uh weren't weren't they uh Steve and the go go dancers last week?
- 6:15SPEAKER_08: What's going on?
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Bemo and the Gandhi dancers?
- 6:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah, B Mo and the Gandhi dancers.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Ah, yeah, we've got to bring that one back.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: So so the promoter reached out to me again today and said, we're putting to together the promotional stuff today, and we need a name.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: So I messaged you and uh said, We need to we need to we need to throw out a name.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: And one of the ones that we had talked about using in the past was BMO and the deal.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: So I listed that and I listed a bunch of other ones, and you were like, Well, BMO and the deal, that's cool.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I've always liked that one.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: That's that's it.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: And so I said, Okay.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: So I messaged the promoter, James, and I said, I guess I said, Don't laugh, but it's gonna be BMO and the deal.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: And I'll get you a pick, you know, as soon as I can.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: And um I told I made the mistake of telling my wife.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: She's like, that's a terrible name.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: That's I don't know.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Why would you I why are you changing that's a terrible name?
- 7:18SPEAKER_08: I like it only because it's a it's a it's a off-handed reference to Robert Johnson.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Right, no, I get it.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: And I love it.
- 7:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I love it too.
- 7:26SPEAKER_08: I wish we had been doing it all.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: From the beginning, yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: She, you know, of course, I didn't say anything when she said that.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: She's like, that's a terrible name.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: And I was making toast at the time.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: And I just Memo in the toast.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: I didn't I didn't say anything, but I secretly picked up my phone and I messaged you and I said, Do you think we should just keep it O'Brien and Doug?
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: And you agreed because for promotional purposes, it's probably a good idea.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: For continuity, right?
- 8:00SPEAKER_08: And then I agree to that.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: You said.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Because that's what I told him.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: That's what I told the promoter.
- 8:07SPEAKER_08: What?
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: O'Brien.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: No, O'Brien and Doug.
- 8:10SPEAKER_08: Why?
- 8:11SPEAKER_08: Oh, I misunderstood then.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Um I said, you sure you don't want O'Brien and Doug?
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: You said, yeah, let's keep that just for the podcast eventual media empire.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, but I thought you keep O'Brien and Doug.
- 8:24SPEAKER_08: For the podcast, not for the duo.
- 8:27SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Well, he's he's calling us O'Brien and Doug.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: I guess I misunderstood you.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I misunderstood you.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Well, we can change it after this gig.
- 8:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but I'm all I was all excited.
- 8:43SPEAKER_08: Well, now I don't want to do the gig.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: We can get excited after the gig and we'll change the name.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: We'll do like a whole media thing.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Crum and Crossing Duo becomes Bimo in the Deal, or O'Brien and Doug becomes Bemo in the Deal, or I don't know.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: That's not gonna happen.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Probably not.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: But you know, see, you said yeah, let's keep that.
- 9:09SPEAKER_08: So I Well, I th I thought you meant for the podcast.
- 9:12SPEAKER_08: Not for the not for the show.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I th I I said you I I misunderstood you then.
- 9:20SPEAKER_08: Okay, well.
- 9:22SPEAKER_08: Well, that's the problem of messaging stuff.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_08: Anyway.
- 9:26SPEAKER_08: A lot of gets lost in translation.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: So for the gig in October, we're gonna be O'Brien and Doug.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: I told him we'd probably take a pick tonight, too, but it's probably gonna be too dark by the time we're we're done.
- 9:38SPEAKER_06: I'm a bum down now.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: Well.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I wanted to be bemo and the deal.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: We still can be bemo and the deal, Doug.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: We still can be.
- 9:47SPEAKER_08: Well, we're gonna be.
- 9:48SPEAKER_08: It will be okay.
- 9:49SPEAKER_08: I wanted to be that for the gig, man.
- 9:53SPEAKER_08: Well because we're playing for other people.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: True.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: You don't you know the details of that one, right?
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: We're playing uh they're having a bunch of other bands, and we're playing in between those bands.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: But we're getting paid our full price for 30-minute sets.
- 10:13SPEAKER_06: I can do three.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: And I think like three 30-minute sets.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Oh right?
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Or four?
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Easy peasy, man.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Um what do what do we do in between?
- 10:22SPEAKER_08: Just check out the other bands?
- 10:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 10:24SPEAKER_08: Alright, cool.
- 10:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 10:26SPEAKER_08: Is is uh our Tweety's gonna be there.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 10:28SPEAKER_08: His band.
- 10:29SPEAKER_08: Yep, three 30-minute sets for our full price.
- 10:32SPEAKER_08: Nice.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: So that's yeah, that'll be cool.
- 10:34SPEAKER_08: Who's the headliner?
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't know.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: I know um I know uh Roy's gonna be there.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Um Tweety.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, Tweety.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Um Let's see.
- 10:50SPEAKER_08: Is any like is it all local bands or is it like uh No.
- 10:53SPEAKER_08: Oh it's not, okay.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see right here.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Um is his band playing?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Marionette is playing?
- 11:05SPEAKER_08: Okay, yeah, that's what I that's what I want to say.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Um so far I think we have Roy Tweety and the Creamers opening, Wally and the Virginian second, Marionette third, and Yellow Lead Vetter, a Pearl Jam hour, and a Foo Fighters hour to close the night.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Would love to book you guys as a side stage act that would play between each band for approximately 30 minute sets.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: So about a total of an hour and a half.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, and then they said, hold on.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Um you guys crush it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: I wanted you in the lineup for last year, hoping y'all can make it.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Um maybe s maybe smoked salmon before Marionette instead of Wally, a Bangor act and a Portland act.
- 11:50SPEAKER_08: I was about to say that'd be rough on Roy.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, true.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Because yeah, he plays in both bands.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: We'll see, we'll see what happens.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: How long are their sets?
- 11:59SPEAKER_08: Like an hour?
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I think probably an hour.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be like a full day thing.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: I think.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: But you know, we play 30 minutes um and then take a break.
- 12:10SPEAKER_08: Is it outside, I assume?
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: I'm assuming.
- 12:12SPEAKER_08: So I don't think there's a lot of room in that lot.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Uh the weather cool.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: Play play 30 minutes, then take a break.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: Like an hour break, and then play another 30 minutes.
- 12:21SPEAKER_08: I think we can handle that.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: I think we can handle that.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Three 30 minutes heads?
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 12:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: So I um I apologize.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: I misunderstood you.
- 12:30SPEAKER_08: That's alright.
- 12:30SPEAKER_08: Don't worry.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: But we'll just we'll we'll fix it after after October.
- 12:33SPEAKER_08: Fine.
- 12:34SPEAKER_08: Whatever.
- 12:35SPEAKER_08: Shot video, Doug.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Um we have some things to talk about, and then we're gonna play mixtape, and then we're gonna do the Wall of Tunes and all that stuff.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Um I got new music from Deep Purple.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Another one?
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Are you interested?
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Um and I also have some listener mail.
- 12:53SPEAKER_08: Oh, we got some listener mail?
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Uh well, yeah, sort of.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: I mean sort of.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: I mean it was bouncing bob.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Who is that?
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: It's bouncing bob again.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, bouncing bob.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: That's Ian Gillin from Deep Purple.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Wow, he looks bad.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: This is one called Lazy Saw.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna turn off my Lazy Sod?
- 13:10SPEAKER_08: Lazy sod?
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:13SPEAKER_08: Which I think basically Well the videos keep getting better.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Amazing how can sound like the purple just from the main.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: And actually, D Purple has one of my favorite guitar players of all time.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, Brian is the new guitar player.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: So for that reason alone, I like it, but it's I don't know.
- 14:20SPEAKER_08: It's a McDonald's, man.
- 14:21SPEAKER_08: It is, you know what you're getting.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: That's what I was gonna say.
- 14:27SPEAKER_08: I mean, if you want to listen to D Purple, you're gonna love it.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: You're gonna get D Purple.
- 15:02SPEAKER_08: I was gonna say it's a very tasteful solo.
- 15:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: It's very deep purple.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:15SPEAKER_08: Especially with the organ now.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Um from their new album, Equals One.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is a follow-up to their last one.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: The last song, Portable Door.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Portable Door.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Deep Purple Man.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: He's got some weird stuff.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Weird stuff.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Weird goes.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Uh legendary, though, those guys.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Uh speaking of legendary, Bon Jovi set a record.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Oh?
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Uh new record.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Uh how so?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, we we taught and we talked about this a little bit um with their latest album, which is called Forever.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Um they released three songs ahead of time, I think.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Three or four.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: And they did a whole thing where Bon Jovi talked about every song on the album and and did video, you know, vignettes about every song on the album.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: He did tons and tons and tons of press.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Well, he was on Jeopardy.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: He was he?
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 16:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he had his own category.
- 16:18SPEAKER_08: You know, it was like, you know, if somebody chose it, they'd be like, and here's John.
- 16:21SPEAKER_08: And he would ask the, you know, he'd give the answer, and then would he plug the new album?
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 16:27SPEAKER_08: I wasn't really paying attention.
- 16:28SPEAKER_08: I was only kind of half paying attention to it.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:30SPEAKER_08: Because, you know, I mean, how smart is John Bon Jovi?
- 16:33SPEAKER_08: You know, I I don't think he could be contested on no no offense to him.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Right, no, no.
- 16:38SPEAKER_08: He couldn't be on Jeopardy.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Probably not.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: So he would say that too.
- 16:41SPEAKER_08: I I'm sure he would.
- 16:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_08: I mean, he's a rock guy.
- 16:43SPEAKER_08: He's not, you know, he's not a smart guy.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Um well, because of all the press that they did, um, they debuted, I mean, like you would expect Bon Jovi to debut uh in the top five.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Well, good on the on the Billboard Top 200.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Um in the first week of release.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: But the record that they set came after that first week.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Um unless it comes back in the future, forever will be the first Bon Jovi studio album to only last one week in the top 200.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: That's right, ladies and gentlemen.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: It dropped off completely.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Out of the top 200 after one week.
- 17:23SPEAKER_08: Well, that only tells me that everybody that liked Bon Jovi got it at the fr at the same time, and then we're like, yeah.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're probably right.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: Uh and the funny thing is, is I had I had to stop by Walmart today and I to get a um Dustbuster for my car.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Because my car gets dirty really quickly because if I have children in it.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: And really, I shouldn't lay it on my children, it's because of me.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Um so I I I was I was gonna get a Dustbuster and I had the Bon Jovi album in my hand.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: And I was like, twelve bucks.
- 18:02SPEAKER_08: That's not bad, actually.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: And I went and I didn't want to spend the extra money to get the Dustbuster and the Bon Jovi album.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: And you know how big of a fan.
- 18:14SPEAKER_08: So you put so you put the Dustbuster?
- 18:16SPEAKER_08: No.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: I put Bon Jovi back.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: And I bought the Dustbuster.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: So John Bon Jovi uh fell victim to the the Dustbuster.
- 18:26SPEAKER_08: Well, I guess uh your your your contribution to uh the billboard thing is neglected.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: That word.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you know that's not a record you want to have, but let's be realistic.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: And we've talked about this a little bit.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know I didn't find the album in in the stores until this week.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Um and I think I read somewhere, I don't think it says it in this um story, but he debuted they debuted at number five, but they only sold 50,000 units.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah in one week.
- 19:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's pretty sad.
- 19:09SPEAKER_08: Um I mean for Bon Jovi.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Back when back when uh in the eighties and nineties when when records actually sold.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, you'd you'd go you'd go what was it, what was it?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Def Leppard was saying, they w they w sold five hundred thousand units a month.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: That's like going go uh going gold in a month.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Every month.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Um and now fifty thousand units will get you to number five.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: That's pretty sad.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: It's pretty sad.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's pretty sad.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: That doesn't come it doesn't, I don't think it counts digital downloads.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how that works.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Maybe it does.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Maybe they sold 50,000 all in all together.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: That's even sadder.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: We listened to some of those songs.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: They were uh cheesy, but they were good.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:00SPEAKER_08: They were okay.
- 20:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they mean nothing to yeah, nothing to write home about, but you know.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:06SPEAKER_08: Oh, I don't know.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: I don't either.
- 20:08SPEAKER_08: It's Bon Jovi.
- 20:09SPEAKER_08: He'll I'm I'm sure he's not I'm I'm sure he's not like, oh my kids are gonna go hungry.
- 20:16SPEAKER_08: I don't think there's he's sleeping on a big pile of money.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: But I do I do think that may because he you know he had the throat surgery and everything.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: And there was some debate whether he was gonna go out and tour behind this record.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Because he can sing now because of the throat uh surgery that he had, but he can't last two hours.
- 20:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's yeah.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: So he released a statement saying that I will not be able to tour probably behind this record.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: And I think that may spell retirement.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Uh unless he unless he can build the stamina up and and his voice can hold up for two hours to tour again.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, what what else could he do?
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: To be an actor again, I guess.
- 21:06SPEAKER_06: That's not you know, no.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: No.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: No.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: That was a weird phase.
- 21:11SPEAKER_08: That was a little bit odd.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: That was a weird phase that he went through.
- 21:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was it was not a good phase.
- 21:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:17SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 21:18SPEAKER_08: Um I was not uh not impressed.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Um I did want to answer some.
- 21:25SPEAKER_08: I mean, I mean, his his acting skills are on par with mine, but you know.
- 21:30SPEAKER_08: So I guess I can't say much.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Let's see if I can get to this uh listener mail.
- 21:38SPEAKER_08: I saw our pretty faces on your on your computer screen.
- 21:41SPEAKER_08: You did?
- 21:42SPEAKER_08: Yes, I did.
- 21:43SPEAKER_08: So it must be about uh oh, look at us.
- 21:45SPEAKER_08: Look at us.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I'm on the wrong thing here.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: I want to switch this to There we go.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: That's what I want.
- 21:52SPEAKER_08: There we go.
- 21:52SPEAKER_08: Now we there we are again.
- 21:54SPEAKER_08: Look at us.
- 21:54SPEAKER_08: Now let's get all our glory.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Again, so Bounce and Bob uh messaged us again.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: As you know, Bounce and Bob is the one that got us into the Pines.
- 22:08SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 22:09SPEAKER_08: Um an excellent, an excellent suggestion.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, and he also answered the mixtape question.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Um I won't do that until we do the mixtape, but he he did have an answer for the mixtape question.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: So uh he says, I've resisted and and I I am on the fence about this because uh the artist that he asked about and and this is no disrespect, Bob.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I mean everybody's got their thing.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: I don't get I don't I don't get um this guy is like the biggest thing besides besides um what's the guy's name?
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Zach Bryan and Tyler Childers, who seem to be like this huge phenomenon that's they're not even being being played on the radio, but they're just there's they're just huge.
- 22:57SPEAKER_08: Everybody in Arusta County was it, the Tyler Childers.
- 23:00SPEAKER_08: They were last week.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Yes, they were.
- 23:02SPEAKER_08: So I mean, you know.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: And I I'm not taking anything away from Tyler Childers.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Um I d I I like what I hear.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Um, but this is what Bob said.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Um maybe.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: I've resisted making this request of you.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: I would like your reaction to my current favorite performer, Noah Kahan.
- 23:26SPEAKER_08: I've heard of him.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: I've heard of him too, and I've heard some of his stuff.
- 23:29SPEAKER_08: I haven't heard anything.
- 23:30SPEAKER_08: I've just heard his name.
- 23:31SPEAKER_08: I don't get it.
- 23:31SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 23:32SPEAKER_08: Not saying it's bad.
- 23:34SPEAKER_08: Is he one of those uh Teller Children type guys?
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: No, he's he's more of a um more of a folk well, Talent Childers, I guess, is kind of folk Americana, but Noah Kahan is more I don't know, I'll just have to play it for you.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Um my current favorite performer, Noah Kahan, three of his songs.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm gonna s he g he lists the three songs.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm gonna start with the third one he listed because that's the one that I've heard.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Um let's see, maybe I can find it.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: There it is right there.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Now ignore the I know you're not gonna be able to because you're gonna watch it, but ignore the video for it.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I just I just want you to um to concentrate on the song.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Is this something that you could get into?
- 24:25SPEAKER_08: Is this him?
- 24:26SPEAKER_08: This is him.
- 24:27SPEAKER_08: It's kinda like a Christian Bale thing going on.
- 24:30SPEAKER_08: You think so?
- 24:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, a little bit.
- 24:38SPEAKER_09: As you promised me that I was more than all the miles combined, you must have had yourself a change of carback halfway through the drive.
- 24:46SPEAKER_09: Cause your voice cut off exactly as you passed my exit side.
- 24:51SPEAKER_09: Kept on driving straight and left off future to the right.
- 24:55SPEAKER_09: Now I am stuck between my anger in the plane that I can't face.
- 24:59SPEAKER_09: Never read, don't even smoking weed, just not replaced.
- 25:03SPEAKER_09: And I am terrified of weather, cause I still put it rains.
- 25:08SPEAKER_09: Doc told me to travel, but there's COVID on the plane.
- 25:12SPEAKER_09: Then I forma put it to cheese and other streets and I talk your mom.
- 25:18SPEAKER_09: She forgot that I didn't have my fault, but I just like to play the victim of drink.
- 25:25SPEAKER_09: Alcohol, till my friends come home for Christmas.
- 25:29SPEAKER_09: Dreamish potato, did not lose now your tired track.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna play the whole thing.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: What what I was gonna say, what what is your reaction?
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: I mean his voice kind of bugged me.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, uh, John Hyatt's voice bugged me when I first heard him, too.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: And that grew on me very quickly.
- 25:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but he's got like this uh Mr.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Beelhead whiny.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Not whiny.
- 26:07SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 26:09SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 26:09SPEAKER_08: To me, uh there's a lot of words.
- 26:12SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah, trying to he's jamming a lot of lyrics into a very small space.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to keep up with him.
- 26:18SPEAKER_08: I mean, he's like he's like Eminem.
- 26:21SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: But this is a huge song for him.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Is it stick season, yeah.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: This is this is huge.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Uh all uh course I teach high school chorus.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: All of them in high school chorus worship this guy.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 26:36SPEAKER_08: Well, whatever, you know.
- 26:38SPEAKER_08: Um T-shirt on, I suppose.
- 26:39SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's not something I mentioned in, but that's it.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Let me let's see.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: This one's called Maine.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Like the state?
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Looks like it.
- 26:51SPEAKER_08: Well, I see a duck in a tree, so yeah, that that that that tracks.
- 27:00SPEAKER_08: Cape Elizabeth?
- 27:00SPEAKER_08: That's not even Maine.
- 27:02SPEAKER_08: That's North Boston.
- 27:08SPEAKER_08: So, what kind of music would you call this?
- 27:11SPEAKER_08: It's definitely folk.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:14SPEAKER_08: Americanish Americana-ish.
- 27:22SPEAKER_08: Is there any lyrics to this song or is it just a instrumental?
- 27:25SPEAKER_08: Find out.
- 27:26SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 27:28unknown: Oh.
- 27:28SPEAKER_08: Like he's about to sing.
- 27:44SPEAKER_08: Mmm, I like lobster.
- 27:48SPEAKER_08: Marshmallow flop and whoopee pies.
- 27:54SPEAKER_09: Tell me, lover.
- 27:57SPEAKER_09: I let you make your change.
- 28:00SPEAKER_09: What's your story discover?
- 28:02SPEAKER_09: What's your heart for your race?
- 28:05SPEAKER_09: I used to take your pills in the morning.
- 28:08SPEAKER_09: And did you lose that long enough?
- 28:11SPEAKER_09: For a walk through an ocean town.
- 28:13SPEAKER_09: Cause this town's just an ocean now.
- 28:16SPEAKER_09: You don't hate this summer.
- 28:18SPEAKER_08: He reminds me of a pop singer I've heard recently.
- 28:22SPEAKER_08: Asking strangers parents too.
- 28:23SPEAKER_08: Charlie Poop.
- 28:26SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 28:27SPEAKER_08: Poop is not a dark in the house.
- 28:28SPEAKER_08: He's got that high nothing but the water.
- 28:31SPEAKER_08: That high voice reminds me of him.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I don't I don't hear Charlie.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: I hear what you're saying.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: Do you know who I'm talking about?
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Charlie Poop is a pop singer, like like a straight-up pop guy.
- 28:44SPEAKER_08: His his voice this guy's voice reminds me of him a little bit.
- 28:48SPEAKER_09: Except he's got more of a way.
- 28:51SPEAKER_08: Some twangy thing going on.
- 29:00SPEAKER_09: They make me a star.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, one more.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: Um, because Bob listed uh three songs.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: So we'll play one more.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: This one's called All My Love.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: I I I don't want to take anything away from the guy because obviously he's talented, he's good at what he does.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: It's not my bag.
- 29:20SPEAKER_08: No, I mean it's not it's not my thing.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: Um I it I you know, I don't know.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: It may it might be, I don't know.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: It's trendy, for one thing.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Just like Zach Bryan and Tyler Childers Childers are are trendy.
- 29:36SPEAKER_08: Right I well, who who is that uh the Munson uh Munson brothers or do you remember?
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, I know who you're talking about.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I could see that from here.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: The Noah Kahan kind of sounds like uh um Monson.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Saying too much, but you know how it gets.
- 29:59SPEAKER_08: Bob was really into him.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: I know who you mean.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: They haven't put out anything recently.
- 30:06SPEAKER_08: No, they they've kind of like gone by the wayside a little bit.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Ever since their bass player quit because of political yeah, he didn't line up with the rest of his band.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Um it's um your name.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: The lead singer's last name.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Shoot.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Mumford.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: Mumford Mumford and Sun.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Mumford and Sun.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what it was.
- 30:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it kind of reminds me of that.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I hear that.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I hear that.
- 30:30SPEAKER_08: Now it's like uh Avent Brothers Bob.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: You know, it's and that's the thing, it's trendy.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And I I there was a time when if I heard another ukulele on the radio, I was gonna rip the knob off.
- 30:45SPEAKER_08: I don't remember the ukulele phrase.
- 30:47SPEAKER_08: Bait.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Oh I think there's a ukulele in here, isn't there is a mandolin.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: That's a mandolin.
- 31:06SPEAKER_08: I don't think that's a mandolin.
- 31:09SPEAKER_08: It's definitely not a ukulele.
- 31:15SPEAKER_08: That sounds like a mandolin.
- 31:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you're probably right.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: It's uh every song kind of sounds the same.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a little bit.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: But you know what?
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's we say that a lot.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: You know, that's uh every song sounds we say that about Nickelback.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Every song sounds the same.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: We you know, Metallica.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Every song sounds the same.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: It's their thing.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: It's their it's their sound.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:42SPEAKER_08: And so you can't really shade at it.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: I do that all the time.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like I I can't distinguish one song from the next because it all sounds the same.
- 31:53SPEAKER_08: Now, if I was a fan of this guy, I wouldn't care.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: But that bores me.
- 31:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it this is boring to me.
- 31:59SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's just a guy on a guitar, which is fine sometimes, but I need a little bit more.
- 32:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 32:04SPEAKER_08: You know, I'm just that's just my and I I might go through a phase where I that's all I listen to, too.
- 32:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 32:10SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 32:11SPEAKER_08: That that does happen.

- 32:15SPEAKER_01: What and so I'm I mean, a lot of James Taylor stuff sounds the same.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, uh Van Halen.
- 32:21SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Although Van Halen's a little different.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: You know, there a lot of their stuff is different, but a lot of it's the same.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:27SPEAKER_08: You know, I mean it I mean, you're you're you know the Eddie guitar solo.
- 32:32SPEAKER_08: You know, it's gonna sound like an Eddie.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: And I had this I always had this argument with uh with my we did this on the podcast once, didn't we?
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: Um how m most of the songs with Roth from the Roth era all ended the same.
- 32:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: I think we I think we were talking about that one day.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they all they all end the same.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: And yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: So anyway.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Uh I I didn't mean I don't mean to burst your bubble, Bob, but we we didn't you didn't win us over on this one, I don't think.
- 33:00SPEAKER_10: No.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: Um we're not we're not um how how can I say this?
- 33:05SPEAKER_08: We're not um I mean he's good at what he's doing.
- 33:10SPEAKER_08: I mean he's very good, but he's just not my thing.

- 33:12SPEAKER_08: Same here.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah.

- 33:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: This guy, not so much.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Interesting.

- 33:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: And we could get into that because maybe we like those other bands.
- 33:30SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah, you know what I mean?
- 33:31SPEAKER_08: That's that's how we started.
- 33:33SPEAKER_08: You know, copy in our favorite.

- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Because that's confusing.
- 38:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 39:00SPEAKER_08: That's where I was getting confused.

- 39:08SPEAKER_01: What?
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: Last week.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: I had I had I was right.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: About what?
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: About it being the last week's question.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: We have to answer that first.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Or yeah, get the winner first.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: And then ask the new question.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: Ask the new question.
- 39:22SPEAKER_08: So it should be old question, new question.
- 39:23SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, so the old question.
- 39:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_08: That's the one we have to do.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: We have to get a winner.
- 39:28SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Um the question the question was a doozy.
- 39:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was.
- 39:35SPEAKER_08: It was quite a it was quite an interesting scenario.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, so can you reread it?
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 39:40SPEAKER_08: End of the road, the pack of kids behind you is getting closer.
- 39:44SPEAKER_08: You have two options.
- 39:45SPEAKER_08: Take a beating and give up your new BMX bicycle.
- 39:48SPEAKER_08: Or gamble with legendary status.
- 39:51SPEAKER_08: And your life riding down Dead Man's Gulch.
- 39:54SPEAKER_08: What song plays as your front tire rolls over the edge?
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, before we get to uh Cousin Larry, I want to read you Bounce and Bob's.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, Bobs, yes.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: So this doesn't count for anything to our impartial judge.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: This is just this is just a listener contribution.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: So Bounce and Bob says, Don't fear the Reaper.
- 40:11SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: By uh Blue Oyster Cult.
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: He saw them live in, of all places, Madawaska.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: He saw them.
- 40:17SPEAKER_08: Blue Oyster Cult in Madawaska.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Apparently he saw them in Matawaska.
- 40:21SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: I had no idea they've ever played that.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: I don't know where they would play in Madawaska, but okay.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 40:27SPEAKER_08: Maybe at the multi-purpose building.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 40:29SPEAKER_08: That's entirely possible.
- 40:30SPEAKER_08: It is a nice building.
- 40:31SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 40:33SPEAKER_08: Alright, Cousin Larry.
- 40:34SPEAKER_08: Co-Larry.
- 40:36SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 40:37SPEAKER_08: Cousin Larry was pretty funny about his.
- 40:40SPEAKER_08: Okay, so he he always gives me like a really nice paragraph.
- 40:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 40:45SPEAKER_08: Okay, so the obvious was Bicycle by Queen.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 40:49SPEAKER_08: Which I had never thought of.
- 40:51SPEAKER_08: Or flying from the E.T.
- 40:53SPEAKER_08: soundtrack.
- 40:53SPEAKER_08: You know, when he's the basic I also thought about any song from a Scooby-Doo cartoon that plays during the chase scenes.
- 41:02SPEAKER_08: But the very first song I think of when being chased is the theme from Benny Hill, Yakity Sacks.
- 41:08SPEAKER_08: Hold on.
- 41:08SPEAKER_08: Hi Boots Random.
- 41:10SPEAKER_08: Is that is that so is that his answer?
- 41:11SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 41:11SPEAKER_08: Okay, hold on.
- 41:12SPEAKER_08: I want to I want to get that up here.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Yakadies.
- 41:19SPEAKER_08: Well you're done.
- 41:20SPEAKER_08: It may not really fit our genre, but it was the first song I thought of.
- 41:23SPEAKER_08: Well, we don't have a genre.
- 41:24SPEAKER_08: I know, right?
- 41:25SPEAKER_08: So I thought it was great.
- 41:27SPEAKER_08: Then he went on.
- 41:28SPEAKER_08: He said, I sh Yeah, here it is.
- 41:40SPEAKER_08: I thought it was brilliant.
- 41:42SPEAKER_08: I thought it was a brilliant album.
- 41:43SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 41:43SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 41:46SPEAKER_08: He said, uh the first song I think of when watching us see us chasing, not being chased, I never run.
- 41:52SPEAKER_08: I give or take the beating.
- 41:54SPEAKER_08: Plus, me on a BMX bike would be hilarious.
- 41:57SPEAKER_08: That was because hilarious.
- 42:03SPEAKER_08: I thought it was a great choice.
- 42:05SPEAKER_08: I thought it was awesome.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Do you want to go or do you want me to go?
- 42:08SPEAKER_08: Uh do you do I go last or do you I don't know.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: I think we switch it up every once in a while.
- 42:13SPEAKER_08: I don't well go next.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:15SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 42:15SPEAKER_08: This this also does not fit our genre, but it was the first song I thought of when it when I read the question.
- 42:21SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 42:21SPEAKER_08: It was the first song in a popped in my head.
- 42:23SPEAKER_08: I believe I could fly by R.
- 42:25SPEAKER_08: Kelly.
- 42:27SPEAKER_08: That was the very first song I thought of when I can't when I read that question.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: So this would be like a slow motion.
- 42:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it'd be like, you know, just you know, me on my bike, and yeah.
- 42:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:48SPEAKER_08: So right now I'm just kind of like, you know, I'm like looking behind me, and I see them coming, and I look, you know, I look down the gulch, you know, and then it's like over the edge.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: We should uh we should go to Yeah, there we go.
- 43:13SPEAKER_08: I'm picturing you now.
- 43:16SPEAKER_08: If you picture it, it's blow them up.
- 43:18SPEAKER_08: It's hysterical.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Just believe it, I can get away from these dudes.
- 43:37SPEAKER_08: Now I'm going down the hill.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: Did I ever tell you that this song they ripped this song off for a country song?
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: I'm not supposed to Laney Wilson country song.
- 43:54SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: Can I can I deviate?
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: Actually, no what I'll do my.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: First, then I'll then I'll go back to that.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Um okay, so mine.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: So if I'm running away from these guys uh on my bike, right, and I go over the hill.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the the thing that and this popped into my head last week when you when you uh asked the question.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: So it's Joe Esposito from Karate Kid.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: Jack would be so proud.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: Come on, I think I'm gonna I'm riding in a BMX bike.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: It's in the Navy's movie.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, here I go over the cliff right here.
- 44:47SPEAKER_08: What do you think about it?
- 44:49SPEAKER_08: In the first part in this movie, there are BMX bikes.
- 44:52SPEAKER_08: There are BMX bikes today.
- 44:53SPEAKER_10: Maybe that's what I thought, you know.
- 44:58SPEAKER_08: I totally love that one.
- 45:00SPEAKER_08: Oh, I feel bad for the judge.
- 45:01SPEAKER_08: He's gonna have a hard time doing it.
- 45:04SPEAKER_10: These are all great.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: Uh just so you know, that's Esposito E-S-P-O-S-I-T-O.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, alright, so cool question.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Cool question.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, so um we should hold on.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Let me get this ready for our next conversation.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Uh there it is.
- 45:26SPEAKER_08: Okay, so so that that was the old question.
- 45:30SPEAKER_08: Right?
- 45:31SPEAKER_08: This week's question, the new question.
- 45:32SPEAKER_08: The new question is.
- 45:33SPEAKER_08: The one that's being judged.
- 45:36SPEAKER_08: Was the uh no that one's being judged.
- 45:41SPEAKER_08: No, no.
- 45:42SPEAKER_08: We just did that one.
- 45:44SPEAKER_08: She has to pick a winner.
- 45:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah, not yet.
- 45:45SPEAKER_08: She has to pick from last time.
- 45:47SPEAKER_08: So here we go again.
- 45:48SPEAKER_08: No, she's gonna pick a winner from what we just said.
- 45:51SPEAKER_08: No.
- 45:51SPEAKER_08: No, the last one was the the private concert.
- 45:57SPEAKER_08: Oh, and she we have a that's the old question.
- 45:59SPEAKER_08: This is the new question.
- 46:00SPEAKER_08: Okay, see, yeah.
- 46:01SPEAKER_08: And then we're gonna have the new new question.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: So so so she picked a winner from last week.
- 46:06SPEAKER_08: Yes, from the live music.
- 46:08SPEAKER_08: The live one song.
- 46:09SPEAKER_08: One song from one artist, right, or the artist live or dead.
- 46:12SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 46:13SPEAKER_08: Okay, so this is what she said.
- 46:15SPEAKER_08: We should have done that first.
- 46:17SPEAKER_08: I know, but you know, anyway, we're done.
- 46:20SPEAKER_08: Uh so another pick another week of some really epic picks.
- 46:24SPEAKER_08: Who wouldn't love to have a private concert with the three talented artists?
- 46:28SPEAKER_08: In the end, I had to go with Rush, the pass.
- 46:31SPEAKER_08: There you go.
- 46:32SPEAKER_08: The lyrics were so moving.
- 46:34SPEAKER_08: Very beautiful song.
- 46:35SPEAKER_08: It was a tough choice, though.
- 46:36SPEAKER_08: I almost picked Purple Haze immediately.
- 46:37SPEAKER_08: Who wouldn't want to sit and watch a master at work?
- 46:40SPEAKER_08: And B.B.
- 46:40SPEAKER_08: King, another wonderful guitarist.
- 46:42SPEAKER_08: Solid choices this week.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: So does she she must like listen to the songs all the way through?
- 46:48SPEAKER_08: Knowing her, yes.
- 46:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 46:50SPEAKER_08: She she would listen to it, you know, and analyze it and get right.
- 46:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 46:54SPEAKER_08: So cool.
- 46:55SPEAKER_08: I am the winner this week.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: So that's I mean, we know.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Not that we're keeping track here, but that's two for you and two for me.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: And then lost track.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Cousin Larry has one, I think.
- 47:05SPEAKER_07: I thought he had two.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Maybe?
- 47:06SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 47:07SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 47:07SPEAKER_08: How many ones have we been doing?
- 47:08SPEAKER_08: It doesn't really matter.
- 47:10SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 47:11SPEAKER_08: So now we're on to the new new question.
- 47:13SPEAKER_08: The new new question.
- 47:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_08: This is the one.
- 47:15SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 47:16SPEAKER_08: Alright, so I gotta pick a question.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's the dreaded box again.
- 47:23SPEAKER_08: I'm not putting the I'm not falling for that Vietnam again.
- 47:29SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Uh-oh.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Did you hear that?
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: Was that your stomach?
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: That's my stomach.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: Holy cow.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: I thought that somebody was dragging something upstairs.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: That's what it sounded like.
- 47:44SPEAKER_08: It was like Bob Marley's chains.
- 47:48SPEAKER_08: I thought we were in a live version of Christmas Carol.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: I think we go back.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: Here's what we do.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: We go back, and when we edit it, we we make that extra loud.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: Oh sweet.
- 47:56SPEAKER_08: Please do that.
- 47:58SPEAKER_08: Okay, I I'm not sure this this question.
- 48:02SPEAKER_08: It says reverse.
- 48:03SPEAKER_08: It's in big old letters.
- 48:04SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 48:04SPEAKER_08: Whoever pulls this card plays a song of their choice.
- 48:08SPEAKER_08: The remaining players create their own scenario based on what was played.
- 48:16SPEAKER_08: I don't you want me to pick another one?
- 48:17SPEAKER_08: Because that's kind of confusing.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: Well, I only the only reason it's it would be difficult is because I'm gonna pick another one.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because cousin you know, cousin Larry's too far away.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: We could probably do that, but probably.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's probably just easier to pick another one.
- 48:32SPEAKER_08: Okay, here we go.
- 48:33SPEAKER_08: This this is a little better.
- 48:34SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 48:35SPEAKER_08: You clean out your closet only to find a box of high school memorabilia.
- 48:39SPEAKER_08: There is a single CD slash album covered in dust.
- 48:43SPEAKER_08: Your favorite from that time.
- 48:45SPEAKER_08: Play a song from that CD.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 48:48SPEAKER_08: That's a good one.
- 48:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 48:50SPEAKER_08: That's a good one.
- 48:50SPEAKER_08: That's a great question.
- 48:51SPEAKER_08: I gotta send this to Cousin Larry.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: So so your so high school memorabilia, your favorite song from that time.
- 48:58SPEAKER_08: From that, from that period.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: From like those four years of high school?
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: Because I had a several favorite songs.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: A single CD album covered.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: That's all up to you, my friend.
- 49:11SPEAKER_08: That's all up to you.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: Lots of things jump in my head, but picture.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be that's gonna be tough because I listened to a lot of music back then.
- 49:24SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: You're gonna put striper, I guarantee it.
- 49:29SPEAKER_08: How do you know?
- 49:30SPEAKER_08: You don't know.
- 49:30SPEAKER_08: You don't know what you're doing.
- 49:33SPEAKER_08: You have no idea what I'm gonna do.
- 49:35SPEAKER_08: Alright, that's a great question.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: That's a great question.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Um I wanted to share this with you.
- 49:40SPEAKER_07: Okay, hear me.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: We're going back to R.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: Kelly.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: I'm leaning on the air.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Just the just the chorus.
- 49:52SPEAKER_09: There's nothing to it.
- 49:54SPEAKER_09: Listen to this.
- 49:55SPEAKER_09: I believe I can fly.
- 49:59SPEAKER_09: I believe I can touch the sky.
- 50:03SPEAKER_09: I think about it every night and day.
- 50:07SPEAKER_02: Spread my wings and fly away.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 50:12SPEAKER_08: You know, it's turned it's so bad that he turned out to be such a scumbag.
- 50:15SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 50:16SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 50:17SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: So Laney Wilson has a song out um almost a year ago, I think.
- 50:24SPEAKER_08: She was in Bangor not too long ago.
- 50:26SPEAKER_08: Yes, she was a week or two ago.
- 50:28SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Um, this was called Watermelon Moonshine.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: Can you already hear it?
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: It was right after senior year, just before the summer disappeared.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: We went a ride in the low farm.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Hangin' out on the gateish truck.
- 50:52SPEAKER_04: We threw a beaver Big and Back and touch the sky.
- 51:00SPEAKER_04: Think about it every night and days.
- 51:03SPEAKER_04: Spread my wings and fly away.
- 51:06SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: Drink a water metal mooch.
- 51:09SPEAKER_01: Again, not a bad song, but I, you know, I I heard that and I was like, This is another song.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, her voice kind of irks me a little bit.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, her her singing voice is pretty good, but when she speaks, she's got that thick Louisiana accent.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: Well, it's not that, but it her voice just to me is just kind of really a little bit.
- 51:29SPEAKER_04: I mean, she's good, don't get me wrong, but just a little bit.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Boys, we're just we're just being super critical tonight, aren't we?
- 51:35SPEAKER_08: Well, we just played an awesome gig, so we're we're on a high.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: Is that why?
- 51:41SPEAKER_08: I think we're just curmudging I think we're just old and tired.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: I think we're curmudgeons.
- 51:45SPEAKER_08: We're old and tired.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: I think we're curmudgeons.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: We're curmudgeons, yes.
- 51:49SPEAKER_08: We're Statler and Waldorf, man.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: So um okay, yeah.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: So that's mixtape, and that's us uh trying to um we're trying to be nice, but trying to stop working.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna take a break.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: We're gonna come back, we're gonna do our bonus beatles bit.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna do it.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: We're going to climb the wall of tombs.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:11unknown: Wow.
- 52:12SPEAKER_08: We should we should pick Laney Wilson.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: No.

- 52:16SPEAKER_01: I do have a Laney Wilson.
- 52:18SPEAKER_08: Actually, like a whole album?
- 52:20SPEAKER_08: I think so.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: Well, see, the funny thing is, is uh what you don't know is I all uh recently, like as recently as last Saturday, brought a box of CDs to Catholic Charities and Dorothy.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I saw it.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: Well, Laney Wilson CD was one of them.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: Uh but bye-bye, Laney! But I have I I think I I'm pretty sure that I put it in my iTunes before I before I uh I just want to make sure that I'm not lying to you.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: Um I don't want to listen.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna play it.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know what?
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: What?
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: Maybe I didn't put it in.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: Even funnier.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: No, I guess I didn't.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: It wasn't uh it wasn't that great.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: Well, sorry, Laney.

- 54:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: Are you done?
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: Well no, keep going.
- 54:58SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 54:59SPEAKER_08: From the album A Hard Days Night.
- 55:01SPEAKER_08: The song is called Tell Me Why.
- 55:04SPEAKER_08: Because I told you so, that's why.
- 55:07SPEAKER_08: Uh Tell Me Why was written to provide an upbeat number for the concert sequence in A Hard Days Night.
- 55:13SPEAKER_08: John thought of something the chiffons or the Sherelles might do and knocked it off.
- 55:18SPEAKER_08: It's a typical John scenario.
- 55:20SPEAKER_08: He's been lied to and deserted.
- 55:22SPEAKER_08: He's crying.
- 55:23SPEAKER_08: He appeals to his girl to let him know what he's done wrong so he can put it right.
- 55:28SPEAKER_08: Children whose parents either leave them or die suddenly are often left with a feeling that they must in some way be responsible.
- 55:36SPEAKER_08: Quote, if there is something I have done, I have said or done, tell me what, and I'll apologize, John sang.
- 55:44SPEAKER_08: It was only when he underwent primal therapy in 1970 that he came to terms with these subconscious fears.
- 55:51SPEAKER_08: Therapist Arthur Janov.
- 55:54SPEAKER_08: Janov?
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Janov.
- 55:57SPEAKER_08: Janoff?
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 55:59SPEAKER_08: Set him set him the exercise of looking back through all his Beatles songs to see what they revealed of his anxieties.
- 56:06SPEAKER_08: On his first post-therapy album, John Lennon slash Plastic Ono Band, he was able to sing about these traumas in their original context in songs such as Mother, Hold On, Isolation, and My Mummy's Dead.
- 56:25SPEAKER_08: She's a little uh dark, but that that's uh that's tell me why.
- 56:30SPEAKER_08: So, hmm.
- 56:31SPEAKER_08: It's a great song.
- 56:32SPEAKER_08: It's a very it's very funny.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Such catchy stuff when they go back back when they were doing doing that early stuff.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:00SPEAKER_08: Just and I still, to this day, I love that movie so much.
- 57:04SPEAKER_08: There's so many great one-liners in it.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:07SPEAKER_08: You know, it's just a great movie.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: So I'm a drama not a witness.
- 57:13SPEAKER_08: She looks more like him than I do.
- 57:16SPEAKER_08: So many freaking awesome wasn't that.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: Um, okay.
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: I have climbed the wall of tunes.
- 57:23SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: And I have an album.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: A CD.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: So let the guessing.
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 57:33SPEAKER_07: Rock band?
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: No.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: No.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: They did a they did a monsters of rock show with Dawkins.
- 57:45SPEAKER_08: Ah, okay.
- 57:46SPEAKER_08: Scorpions.
- 57:47SPEAKER_08: Nope.
- 57:48SPEAKER_08: Van Halen.
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 57:52SPEAKER_02: Yes! I have succeeded, but suck on it!
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: Video Doug! So and there's a reason I picked this one.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: This one this one was not random.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, because I did see a an article.
- 58:07SPEAKER_08: Oh! I saw this headline and I didn't read the article.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, so and I don't know if we've done this album before.
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: We may have.
- 58:13SPEAKER_08: I don't think we have because we both hate this album.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: I I I do hate this album.
- 58:18SPEAKER_08: Um Well, you know, I I think we've played tracks off this album before, just to just to showcase how we're talking about Van Halen 3.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: Uh which is the worst-selling Van Halen album of all time.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: Because it's the worst Van Halen album of all time.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: Um, there are some spots that are okay.
- 58:37SPEAKER_08: Oh no, no, no.
- 58:38SPEAKER_08: I'm I'm not I'm not disputing that.
- 58:39SPEAKER_08: It's just the whole album sucks.
- 58:41SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: So um Mike Post was the producer.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Mike Post, who's a TV composer.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: You know, I Yeah, that's what you want to do when you're rocking.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure why Mike Post was chosen as uh as a producer on this.
- 58:55SPEAKER_08: Well, I think this was Eddie's drug phase.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: Maybe, yeah, that's true.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: Um but there are some some good spots on this album, but I was reading on ultimate classicrock.com that two people um have sh have shared a remake of the band's 1998 album in a bid to prove just how great the troubled rec original record could have been.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: So they reduced it from twelve tracks in sixty-five minutes to ten tracks in forty-one minutes, with each song adjusted to focus on what they believe are its strongest parts, and an alternate track listing.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: Uh I have I have a look to see what they what they excluded.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: Probably Eddie's vocal on how many say I'm sure.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 59:43SPEAKER_08: I'm assuming that's probably got rid of that song altogether.
- 59:46SPEAKER_08: Well, I can tell you here.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: Nope, it's on there.
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 59:49SPEAKER_08: Mom's probably maybe took his vocal out then.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: Uh musician Kevin Brown and podcaster Scott Monroe were at pains to emphasize that they meant no disrespect to Eddie Van Halen's original work, which was comprised by a series of non-musical influences, including the guitarist's addiction struggle at the time.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: Uh they said they said Van Halen III was an album I dismissed for years.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: When Scott asked me if I'd be interested in trying to edit the songs to tighten them up, I was intrigued.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: He added that the process had left him with a much, much deeper appreciation for an album that is daring, eclectic, and unlike anything Eddie had tried before.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: Um He had applied his journalistic approach to Van Halen III, which he'd always felt was underrated.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: Uh how could we edit the album to something more tightly focused on its strengths?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_01: He remembered thinking I identified versions of each song that I felt were necessary or counterproductive.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: Pre-choruses, or in the case of How Many Say I, all of the vocals.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: So he did.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: He took out all of Eddie's vocals.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: In How Many Say I.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: There is no way it's this is no way intended to criticize Eddie or suggest we know better.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: I came at this from a place of love.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: This exercise is about reimagining how the music could have been further molded and perhaps made more accessible to the Van Halen fan base.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_01: So I'm looking at the track listing, and he has uh they have gotten rid of actually no, they just read let's see, I'm gonna tell you what they've gotten rid of.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: Um their track listing starts with without you, and let me let me start this playing while we're talking here.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_01: So So this is So starts with Without You, this song right here.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: Then it goes into One I Want, which is not much different.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: Fire in the Hole, New World, which was the album opener.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: It's in the instrumental, and that is track number four now.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: Um Josefina, Dirty Water Dog, uh Ballad of the Bullet from Afar.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: How many say I in year to the day?
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_01: So they got rid of primary and they got rid of once.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_01: Like completely took those songs off.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: Yep, took those songs off.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_08: Um well they knocked off what it went from 65 minutes to 41.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_08: Holy crap, there's must have been yeah.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: So I I haven't listened to these all the way through.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: This is this is their take on I never minded this song.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: This was their first single.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: And you you gotta get it handed to Gary Sharone.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: Those were uh Gary Sharon of of Extreme was the was the chosen lead singer um after Sammy Hagar was that was some big shoes.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_08: And and I it was almost like they set him up to fail.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's true.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: And have you ever if you've ever seen um any footage of that tour that they did um with Gary Sharone, they went down, they went down to um um Australia, and Gary Sharone was singing everything from Sammy to David Lee Roth.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was he was doing it all uh and well, and he was uh such a ball of energy on stage as he is today.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: Um it's too bad it, you know, I mean, it was just the wrong circumstances.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was just I think it was just a bad period.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: Uh so here's one of the songs they left off, and I'm only gonna play a piece of it because it's seven minutes and forty-three seconds.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: Can you tell it was produced by a television composer?
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I was about to say, is it Magnum P.I.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_08: coming out any second?
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: Again, not to take anything away from Eddie's composing abilities, but Eddie was a great composer.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_08: It's great.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: He really was, you know, but he just kind of went off in a sort of thing.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_08: I think he just lost his way on this one.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Not even remotely a Van Halen song.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_08: No.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_08: It's not even an extreme song.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_01: And so I would they said that they edited songs too to take out like pre-choruses that didn't need to be there.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_01: Year to the day on this is eight minutes and thirty-five seconds.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm not sure what it is on the new version.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: They also got rid of this song.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_08: This is primary?
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_10: Hold on.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_10: Where are you?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_08: Well, I was well, the it was playing, and then I heard a phone ring, and I was like, wow, that that's kind of weird they left that in there.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: No, it was Then I realized it was your fault.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was my my son was done work and he's like, come come get me.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_01: Uh basically.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: And so then I had to call my wife.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: I'm busy.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: I had to call my wife and say, Can you go get go get Finn?
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_01: And she's walking down by the house down there.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a minute because I just thought that was interesting that they that they edited that together.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_01: And I'd be interested, I know this uh this YouTube uh channel I'm I'm imagining this has all the Does it have all the souls in their entirety?
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: Well, let's see.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: Uh remember I told you Josephina was eight minutes and thirty-four seconds?
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: Now it's 334.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_01: Jeez.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: So they basically just took the main parts of the song and cut out all the grease.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_08: I I would be in play uh uh you know the one.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: How many say I?
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_08: How many say I yeah.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_08: I wanna I wanna hear what he did to that one.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_08: So this is only So that he took out Eddie's vocals.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_08: He did.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_08: Is that what I'm understanding?
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: Yes, hold on.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_01: So, but how many say I was six minutes long?
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_01: And and they took out his vocals and now it's uh one minute and forty seconds.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_08: They just destroyed the song, man.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean it's great music.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, the piano is fantastic.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_08: I think it's great.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_08: So they took out Gary Sherron's vocals, too.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_08: So it's just a basically it's an instrumental now.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_01: I can take that though.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah, this is actually really good.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_08: Yep, there we go.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's an instrumental that rocks, man.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, they cut dirty water dog down too.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_01: Let's look at that.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_08: I mean, that's it's great now.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: So that goes right into the song.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_01: And the original uh they cut out all of the all this.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_01: I kinda like this actually.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_01: It goes on a little long.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: I would've like halfway.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: I would have yeah, I would have brought it in sooner.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_01: I like this though.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: Although that guitar sound was not not always my favorite.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so interesting.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_01: Van Halen 3 with Gary Sharon on lead vocals.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_01: Uh still probably universally uh thought of as the worst.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_01: The absolute worst performing and worst uh Van Halen album.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it just it just was not good.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: They just were not on they were and it's nothing against Gary Sharon.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_08: Um, I mean he had nothing to do with it.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: I mean it was just it was Well he did.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_01: I mean he wrote a lot of the words.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but I mean he was you know, he did the best he could under the circumstances.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_08: I agree.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_08: As far as as far as I'm concerned.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: You know, so But that was a kind of a neat little project that those guys did.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_04: That was actually pretty cool.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_08: I mean it's actually uh really interesting to hear that uh, you know, as uh as a new you know, I I would actually get probably buy it.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_08: I would probably get it.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_08: Well, I I mean I I already have it.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I already have the original too.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_08: But it would be nice to have the new version.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_08: You know, if that was actually put out as a um why can't I find Vanalen?
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_01: Have we not done Van Halen before?
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: We must have done Van Halen.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_01: I know we've talked at him ad nauseum.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean we it's like half of our podcast is like Van Halen, Van Halen, Van Halen, Van Halen, Van Halen, Van Halen, Van Halen, Van Halen.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_08: That's my fault, sorry.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_08: Dude, I don't see Van Halen anywhere.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_08: We haven't done Van Halen for climbing the wall.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_08: How have we never done Van Halen?
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_08: I don't understand.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_01: I could spend like three or four episodes on Van Halen.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_01: Just their albums.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_01: Their albums.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_04: What uh actual F.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_08: I can't I can't believe this.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_08: This doesn't make any sense at all.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_08: We've never done Van Halen.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_08: I must be missing it.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we must be.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_08: I must be missing it somewhere.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_08: I mean, I just can't believe we've never done it.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_08: That makes sense.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_08: That just doesn't make any sense.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_01: It doesn't make any sense.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_08: I mean, that's just not us.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: We've talked about it outside the wall of tunes.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_01: Like, well now we have.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_08: We've done we've I mean we've d I mean when Eddie died, we did that whole like hour and a half just talking about Eddie.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_08: You know, so I mean, you know, we I mean we've done Van Halen.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_08: Uh but dude, I'm not seeing it.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: It's like my favorite band.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_01: And we've not done it.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_04: We have never done Van Halen.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 1:11:43unknown: What the heck?
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_01: Well, we have now.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_08: The first one that we did was Van Halen's finally on the list.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_08: Welcome to the Wall of Tunes.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_01: The first one we did was Van Halen 3.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_08: Aren't we proud?
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_08: What a water watershed moment this is for the podcast.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_08: Hey, you probably talked about Van Halen.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_08: Which album did you talk about?
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_08: Three.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_08: Ah, you guys suck fun.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_08: What's wrong with you?
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_08: You guys don't even deserve to have a podcast.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_08: Shut up, video Doug!
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_08: It was actually muggy when I got here.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_08: Was it?
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_01: I didn't feel it until just now.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_08: Well, that's because we're all worked up because we just did Van Halen.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: Maybe maybe that's why.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_08: And we're all young.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_08: I don't want to live anymore.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_02: Why did I talk about Van Halen 3?
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_02: Oh my! What is wrong with me?
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_08: If we were Samurai, we'd be committing Seppaku right now.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_08: I have failed you, Master.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_08: Oh, man.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_08: Three promos.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_01: That is episode 203.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: Hey, three! It's three again.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_02: It was meant to be.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_01: Episode 203 is now in the books.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_08: Episode 203 is about Van Halen 3.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_08: And if there was one more person in the room, it would be Thought the Three of Us.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_08: And there'll be three promos.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_08: There'll be three promos.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_08: Oh man.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_08: Three is all over.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't know if I don't know if it's in conspiracy.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I could do three in one night.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_01: I believe in you.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_01: I believe in the water.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_01: Well, my daughter's got my daughter's got a swim meet tomorrow morning and then we'll.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
