- 0:00i don't know if it's just me or what it is but there has been an epidemic or an uptick
- 0:20and by uptick i mean a severe uptick because this literally has never happened before and
- 0:25then now it happens all the time where i'll be holding the door open for somebody like you know
- 0:32just a stranger walking through and they walk through and then zero acknowledgement that you've
- 0:39held the door open and i know it's not like hard to hold a door open for somebody but it used to be
- 0:45every single time you'd get some kind of acknowledgement thanks like a head nod something
- 0:49They're just like, it's more like I'm the doorman and I'm just doing my job.
- 0:54And it's men that are doing this, which is also surprising to me.
- 0:59Their wives and girlfriends are probably in the car with binoculars watching.
- 1:04They'd be like, he better not acknowledge this woman.
- 1:08You don't think they would be like, why didn't he acknowledge that a lady just held a door open for him?
- 1:14No, aren't you familiar with like the TikTok trends where like the girlfriends would go to the boyfriends
- 1:18and be like, pretend I'm a random girl you don't know.
- 1:21And she walks up and she goes, hi.
- 1:22And they want their boyfriends to like elbow them in the face or something.
- 1:27They want like a vision.
- 1:29They want like an aggressive like, hey, yeah, get away from me, sorcerer woman.
- 1:33Wait, the women who are in a relationship with these men pretend like they're not.
- 1:40Yeah.
- 1:41They go up to these men.
- 1:44Not any men.
- 1:44It's their men.
- 1:45Right.
- 1:45Yeah.
- 1:45and
- 1:47would they think that if they were just
- 1:51pretending like they were strangers that the
- 1:53man would be tricked into
- 1:54no they want the man to show them what they would do if a
- 1:57different woman approached them
- 1:58so they act like they're a stranger
- 2:01and they're like hey handsome
- 2:03and they want their husband to be like back
- 2:05away
- 2:05well if the husband or the
- 2:09boyfriend knows that this is what this
- 2:11psycho woman is trying to get them to do
- 2:13why wouldn't they just be like
- 2:14oh yo this is what i do every time i get i give them a light slap and then i run in the other
- 2:22direction pull out my dexter kill kit i'm sorry that let me show you the blood slides you know
- 2:28you're next that's um offensive and i think it's so funny that you bring it up because literally
- 2:33today a man did that to me i know i'm not a woman but i was also hurt yeah well i mean it's it's
- 2:39again it's not like it's it's just weird because it's i've never noticed it before
- 2:43but within like the last four months maybe maybe your pheromones are changing
- 2:50what i i'm just being treated differently yeah because i smell different yeah maybe you need to
- 2:58you need to like put out the sexy pheromones okay so when i'm holding open the doors i'm
- 3:05gonna be like if you said that i bet you they would have acknowledged you i would have
- 3:11Can I hear that one more time?
- 3:17Thank you, ma'am.
- 3:19Well, see, was that so hard?
- 3:21Yeah, exactly.
- 3:22You're better off than I was, because earlier, you know at the mall when there's like three sets of double doors?
- 3:27Yeah.
- 3:27A guy was coming up, and I was walking, so I was holding it up, and he goes,
- 3:31No, I'm good.
- 3:32And he goes to the door next to me and goes through it.
- 3:35So I said nothing, and he's like, Thanks, though.
- 3:38And I'm just like, I'm already out of this.
- 3:40odd yeah huh people indoors man no it's there's i'm sure some astrological reasons is happening
- 3:49maybe but i don't know anyway welcome to friends like us a podcast where friends talk about stuff
- 4:01Woo!
- 4:01Woo!
- 4:02Woo!
- 4:06I'm Jenna.
- 4:07This is Francis.
- 4:07How are you, Francis?
- 4:08Great.
- 4:08How are you?
- 4:09I was going to ask you first.
- 4:10Oh, okay.
- 4:11Pretend like, let's go back five seconds.
- 4:13Scratch it.
- 4:13I'm Jenna.
- 4:14This is Francis.
- 4:15Hey, girl.
- 4:16How are you doing?
- 4:17I'm doing so good.
- 4:18Thank you for asking.
- 4:19Of course.
- 4:20I'm doing good.
- 4:24Yeah.
- 4:26Well, I'm glad you're also doing well.
- 4:30Yep.
- 4:30I've never been happier.
- 4:32Wow.
- 4:33That's a strong statement.
- 4:34I don't know what happiness is.
- 4:38I look back and I think, oh, that was good.
- 4:41But when it's happening, it's not like there's a neon light going off.
- 4:44I know.
- 4:46It's like a line from The Office.
- 4:51There is a way to know you're in the good old days while you're in them.
- 4:54Yeah.
- 4:55Yeah.
- 4:55Because I think we look back and we romanticize what was, no matter if it was good or bad.
- 4:59Yeah.
- 5:00yeah amazing
- 5:02this is you guys
- 5:04we're so deep yeah this is normally
- 5:06bonus content yeah but not now
- 5:09no we're opening up
- 5:10a little bit of our hearts to you
- 5:12main feed listeners
- 5:14and now we're shutting it it's gone
- 5:16gone yeah hope you like hope you hope you enjoyed
- 5:18it I hope in 30 years you look
- 5:20back and realize that was the good times
- 5:22and for all you
- 5:27subscribers you
- 5:28already know you're in you're living in the good times you know you know you are i think we're at
- 5:33capacity actually i don't know if the system can take another subscriber uh we have two only two
- 5:38slots left so act now oh there goes one oh shoot one left hurry hurry oh quick go to friends like
- 5:46us pod.com grab that last spot oh man that was close yeah wow i wonder who's gonna get it
- 5:56Someone named Delilah.
- 5:59Okay.
- 6:00Like the radio lady?
- 6:02Delilah.
- 6:02Could be her.
- 6:03Is she still alive?
- 6:04Yeah, I just saw her online the other day.
- 6:07And she has the same voice.
- 6:08You saw her online?
- 6:09Yeah, like talking, like on TikTok.
- 6:11She was like, it's me.
- 6:13I can't do her.
- 6:14I can not do her.
- 6:17She used to do like baths and stuff.
- 6:19Or was that?
- 6:20Am I making that up?
- 6:21Or she'd be like, slip into your warm bath.
- 6:24or am I completely making this up
- 6:27where it was like part of her
- 6:29radio shtick
- 6:30I don't remember her ever telling me to get in the bath
- 6:32take a toaster with you
- 6:35da la la
- 6:38kill yourself
- 6:40I don't think that would work by the way
- 6:45electrocuting yourself
- 6:46no that would work but like the specific toaster
- 6:49in the bath method because there's like
- 6:50GFCI outlets in the bathroom
- 6:52I feel like the minute your toaster hit the water, your power would just come out.
- 6:57Maybe you'll get a little zap.
- 6:58Oh, really?
- 6:59I don't know.
- 6:59Don't try it.
- 7:00No, we're testing this out.
- 7:02When we finally get that final subscriber, that'll be our celebration.
- 7:06That'll be the bonus content.
- 7:07Come on, Delilah.
- 7:09We're done.
- 7:11So there's video footage of her out there now?
- 7:13Yeah.
- 7:14I think it probably always has been.
- 7:15Oh, I liked that no one knew what she looked like.
- 7:18That's how I feel about the coyote guy.
- 7:20K-Y.
- 7:21K-Y-O-T.
- 7:24I don't...
- 7:24Is that a country station, right?
- 7:26No, it's jazz.
- 7:27Smooth jazz.
- 7:29Oh, wait.
- 7:30Which...
- 7:30I thought that is the...
- 7:3295.5.
- 7:33Is that right?
- 7:34Wait, is it 95.5?
- 7:35There's a jazz station?
- 7:36There was.
- 7:37It was 95.5 K-Y-O-T.
- 7:40Okay, that sounds familiar now.
- 7:41I could be wrong about the FM frequency, but that's where I first heard smooth operator.
- 7:47Use a smooth operator.
- 7:49which is so funny that you just said that because i went i was in my youtube music app today and i
- 7:56went to search for something and it said recent searches and one of them was smooth operator
- 8:01and i don't remember doing that i don't remember searching for that you've been like manchurian
- 8:05candidate i think so in the tub looking up this music delilah's telling me to kill myself um okay
- 8:15before we get started with our first segment um i want to let the new listeners and regular
- 8:26listeners know we do something on this show where our producer joe gives francis and i
- 8:31secret words to say within the course of the podcast and then if we we say them and at the
- 8:39end we try and guess what the other person's secret word is and if we guess we get a point
- 8:47yay and you can actually go to friendslikeuspod.com where we have a running total of the points
- 8:52sadly at this moment in time i think francis is winning um and which means none of us are winning
- 8:59Wait, why?
- 9:02Anyway, here's Joe with today's secret words.
- 9:08Jenna's secret word is vertebrae.
- 9:11Francis's secret word is memorabilia.
- 9:15Back to the pod.
- 9:17With that business out of the way, it's time for the invention of the week.
- 9:26Inventions.
- 9:30This is it, y'all.
- 9:32Okay.
- 9:33Finally.
- 9:34I'm waiting for it to be it.
- 9:36This is...
- 9:37I just want to preface this by saying it's going to...
- 9:39I know it's going to sound a little bit the year 3000.
- 9:43Okay.
- 9:43But trust me on this.
- 9:45We already have the base technology.
- 9:47Okay.
- 9:49You know how when you can go to, like, the fair or the carnival?
- 9:51I do know that.
- 9:53That's it?
- 9:54No.
- 9:55No.
- 9:55You know the big slingshot mall?
- 9:59Yeah.
- 9:59So people can get in and slingshot some?
- 10:01Yeah.
- 10:03Imagine, Jenna, you just got terrible news.
- 10:07Oh, no.
- 10:08You need to be across town, and you have no time to get there.
- 10:12This is an emergency.
- 10:14Okay.
- 10:16This is a proprietary system of slingshot balls.
- 10:21So it gets you across town in a matter of minutes.
- 10:24So how it works is you get in one, and it slingshots you back.
- 10:29and it throws the slingshot ball to a receiving magnet net.
- 10:37Yeah, catches it, and then it rolls down and gets another slingshot.
- 10:42It basically just slingshots you from one to the next to the next
- 10:46until you get to wherever you need to go.
- 10:53So it's making stops along the way at different slingshots.
- 10:57It's not really a stop.
- 10:58It's just long enough to get into the slingshot.
- 11:03I think you just invented light rail or a subway.
- 11:09But this is much faster.
- 11:10This is for true emergencies.
- 11:12But okay, how do you quantify what's an emergency?
- 11:17Because everyone's going to be wanting to do this if it's really that much faster.
- 11:20Well, it costs money.
- 11:22No one's going to lie.
- 11:24It's expensive.
- 11:24Oh, okay.
- 11:27yeah it's
- 11:29twenty dollars
- 11:30per stop
- 11:32so this is really for
- 11:35going to the hospital
- 11:36only
- 11:39okay
- 11:42how far do you think one single slingshot
- 11:45can take you
- 11:46ten miles
- 11:48whoa that's a
- 11:51pretty big
- 11:53slingshot
- 11:54what did we determine
- 11:56last time with the
- 11:59the Burj Khalifa
- 12:01and I don't know that word
- 12:02the
- 12:04tallest building in the world
- 12:06in the world
- 12:0762 miles
- 12:10up to the atmosphere
- 12:13yeah it was like 62 miles
- 12:15yeah 60 something
- 12:16so you need 30 Burj Khalifas
- 12:18yeah I don't need any Burj Khalifas
- 12:21I need
- 12:21this is how we measure
- 12:24things on this podcast
- 12:26We measure them in Burj Khalifas.
- 12:28Okay.
- 12:30Hey baby I got a secret in my pants It Burj Khalifa long Oh okay Woo woo
- 12:42So let's just say you had an option to do that.
- 12:47Would you ride the sling rail?
- 12:50I think you'd get more people trying to ride it for fun.
- 12:53Well, it's a good way to raise money before emergency.
- 12:55Like, if you don't have an emergency, but someone else doesn't either,
- 12:59sure, go ahead and ride the sling rail.
- 13:00But as soon as someone runs up and is like, I need this.
- 13:04Everyone needs to get out of the way.
- 13:06And you can get in.
- 13:08But then they still got to prove that it's a real emergency.
- 13:11I would believe someone.
- 13:12They came up frazzled.
- 13:13Ah, I need this.
- 13:17Ooh, I need this.
- 13:19Yeah.
- 13:20I just imagine how nice it would be.
- 13:23um i
- 13:28why not just an ambulance for emergencies we have those well we do but didn't you could have like
- 13:38a separate i mean an ambulance does the same thing where people are like oh you go ahead
- 13:43you don't get there quickly like and we know yes it's for like transporting sick people to hospitals
- 13:50but why not just like extend it beyond like just like add a like or the people that need to get to
- 13:56the hospital for the sick people and then that way we don't have to build this whole new infrastructure
- 14:02it's not really infrastructure it's a couple of what if you only need to go one mile away
- 14:07do you have to be slingshotted 10 miles back like how do you get to how do you get to your final
- 14:12destination i think it's i think it's important that you know that these only go like you can't
- 14:20change where it goes like here's my sling here's slinging a and then sling b's wherever the hell
- 14:27sling b is you can't be like no i'm going to the mall sling me that way right no i know that's
- 14:33that's what i'm saying i'm very aware of this that's why i'm saying what if you need to go
- 14:40like you're you're you're stuck you're fixed you could only go 10 miles away you can take a cab the
- 14:48rest of the way so there's cabs waiting each one and then you can trip it to where you need to go
- 14:58yes so this is fixed location one stop to another and you're telling me you didn't just this isn't
- 15:07just effectively a subway that's a slingshot.
- 15:10If you're driving, you will see the balls flying.
- 15:13Well, okay, I understand.
- 15:14But I mean, okay, a light rail, an elevated train then.
- 15:19You can't get the, you know, the city council is never going to agree to do that.
- 15:22They're not going to do that.
- 15:23They're going to be on board with the slingshots in a heartbeat.
- 15:25This is privately owned.
- 15:27So it's all an individual private owned land.
- 15:31Yeah.
- 15:32Is it one person per slingshot?
- 15:34No.
- 15:35So you could ride up to three in the ball.
- 15:40A lot of my inventions are balls.
- 15:43Do all three of them have to be having an emergency?
- 15:46No, it could be.
- 15:48It could be one person with an emergency and then like two people to just need to go somewhere.
- 15:52Or want to, yeah.
- 15:53My car broke down.
- 15:54Can I ride in your ball?
- 15:55Well, hurry.
- 15:56And it could be like Disneyland where there's cameras.
- 15:59So like it could snap a picture.
- 16:01And then when you land, you could buy the picture.
- 16:03so you could remember your emergency
- 16:06it could be like memorabilia for
- 16:08hard times
- 16:09it's you freaking out about your emergency
- 16:12and two strangers who are just having a good time
- 16:14yeah
- 16:15and you're crying in the middle
- 16:17but you all have one to like
- 16:19to remember it
- 16:20I would ride it just to get me
- 16:23even if I wanted to get like 20 miles away
- 16:26just take a couple of slingshot balls
- 16:30yeah
- 16:31Well, again, I think it really is.
- 16:35It's like, well, if I need to get 10 miles away and whatever 10 miles away is at the end of this slingshot, then maybe it's worth it.
- 16:45Otherwise, you know, you're very frustrated that I don't understand.
- 16:50No, it's not that.
- 16:50We have to accept that some emergencies aren't right for the sling ball.
- 16:56you just don't maybe if it's only five miles away you're not taking the ball this is for if you need
- 17:02to get 20 miles away 30 miles away 40 miles away 50 miles away so would you suggest putting
- 17:12the receiving ends of them at places where emergency happen like like hospitals yes i would
- 17:22okay that would be your recommendation yeah okay so um is it actually i don't know this
- 17:30is it like mandated that there be hospitals every so many miles like if you have a population size
- 17:38of a certain like is there any kind of like rule rule like we need to have or is it just good city
- 17:44planning yeah i think that's it i don't know if there's a rule because then someone what if a
- 17:50hospital closed down now technically the rules being broken but who do you punish oh well hospital's
- 17:57gone um that was just something i was curious about i'm curious about it too now okay do you
- 18:05have a name for this invention yes no i don't i i have one that i think you might like okay i'd love
- 18:12to hear it shoot your shot oh again works on multiple levels shoot your shot as in like shoot
- 18:20your slingshot but also it could be like shoot comma you are shot as in like you've just had a
- 18:27gunshot wound so now you need to take a shoot your shot to the hospital okay that could work
- 18:32yeah i like it which version do you how would you want it spelled shoot exclamation point you're
- 18:39shot i see it as a comma with an exclamation point at the end and so you are or uh contraction
- 18:45your shot okay the only thing i could think of is like have a ball but it doesn't really convey
- 18:53didn't wasn't that one of the possible names for the big ball that
- 18:56this is bigger ball i like this is this is your invention strategy so you start with
- 19:05one we start with a name and then you like here's everything that could possibly be called
- 19:09have a ball.
- 19:11I think Francis starts with a ball and just
- 19:13tries to find situations to slaughter.
- 19:15It doesn't have to be a ball. It could be a cube.
- 19:18But I feel like the ball rolls and
- 19:19in the air would be
- 19:21faster to get you there.
- 19:23I think he could go somewhere fast.
- 19:27What takes
- 19:27you 30 minutes takes me
- 19:29five.
- 19:32I
- 19:33Alright.
- 19:37I'm just
- 19:38going to suspend belief and say that
- 19:39the
- 19:41the
- 19:42thing that's supposed to catch will catch
- 19:45is it still like tethered?
- 19:48it's not just like
- 19:49throwing a ball? I don't know if we could have a ten mile
- 19:52tether. You're free
- 19:54flying and then
- 19:56you're caught. So you get thrown and then
- 19:58you're caught. Yeah. Maybe we
- 20:00could come up with like a baseball pun name
- 20:01Mitt
- 20:03Romney
- 20:07now I'm picturing like giant robots just playing catch maybe in the future someday
- 20:21maybe the future the robots will be so big that they just
- 20:24pick you up and run across town with you over the cars
- 20:27help my people are hurt
- 20:33um which so would you write it i mean if it existed and it worked i would write it for fun
- 20:41i can't imagine that people in an emergency are going to be like unless it's exactly where you
- 20:47need to go getting sleep if your emergency is five miles away you get slingshotted 10 miles
- 20:55away you keep doing these numbers you gotta double back five miles you might as in a cab
- 21:00Might as well just take it a cab to begin with.
- 21:02As I've said, some emergencies are right for cabs and some are right for the slingshot.
- 21:08Okay.
- 21:09Or one could be go to the airport.
- 21:12You were late for your flight.
- 21:14Oh, everybody would use it for the airport, though.
- 21:16Everybody would claim.
- 21:18And everyone, and if you had to like, if you had to prove that it was an emergency, everyone would wait just a little too long to leave.
- 21:28No, this could be a separate system just for the airport.
- 21:32And you just have to be an emergency.
- 21:35I get everyone would.
- 21:36Yeah, you'd need a huge ball.
- 21:39Yeah, it could fit 10 people.
- 21:44Oh, okay.
- 21:46Or let's say maybe instead of a ball, it's a cylindrical tube and people buy seats on it.
- 21:53And then it gets thrown through the air and it lands at a different destination.
- 21:58Do we even need planes with this system?
- 22:01We could have this.
- 22:02You invented little tiny plane flights.
- 22:05Yeah.
- 22:05That's in puddle jumpers.
- 22:06Yeah.
- 22:07Yeah.
- 22:07Ooh.
- 22:08Puddle jumpers.
- 22:09Yeah.
- 22:09Anyway, this just came to me.
- 22:12Because I saw something on Instagram that said the fair's coming to town.
- 22:15And I was like, oh, I've always wanted to ride one of those.
- 22:17I've always wanted to go to the fair, but it's 40 miles away.
- 22:21I'm having an emergency.
- 22:23Oh, it's an emergency.
- 22:25I need to go to the fair.
- 22:28Well, thanks for letting us know how the sausage is made, so to speak.
- 22:37It's your thought process.
- 22:38Yeah, of course.
- 22:42Okay.
- 22:44Shoot your shot.
- 22:50I think people would use it for fun.
- 22:53And I think people would abuse it and say they had emergencies.
- 22:57Oh, just one last point.
- 22:58Yeah.
- 22:58If you're in an emergency emergency, like, oh, my God, my loved one's at the hospital.
- 23:03Yeah.
- 23:04You could be so frazzled you don't want to, like, you can't drive.
- 23:08Yeah.
- 23:09Again, that's why I was suggesting an emergency ambulance, just, like, one tier out from a regular ambulance, where it's, like, we all agree, like, someone's having an emergency, like, a real one.
- 23:23and they're willing to pay a lot of money to get from one place to another.
- 23:27So we'll let the rules of an ambulance apply.
- 23:33I like that idea as well.
- 23:35Okay.
- 23:35It might be a little easier to implement.
- 23:38You're discounting the whimsy of flying balls all over the city.
- 23:41I always discount whimsy in an emergency.
- 23:45I don't know why I do that.
- 23:48You gotta stop doing that.
- 23:49And there's probably not fun pictures of my ride at the end of an ambulance ride.
- 23:53One day you would look back and you would laugh at the memory.
- 23:55Look at this picture of me and these two strangers, and they're having a great time.
- 23:58Yeah.
- 23:59Sure, it was the day Harold died.
- 24:03But he would have wanted it this way.
- 24:05That picture's at the funeral.
- 24:08Instead of his, instead of Harold's picture, it's the picture of his.
- 24:11That's how we get exposure.
- 24:12Yeah.
- 24:16Okay, shoot your shot.
- 24:19I think I can't wait to see all these balls flying through the air.
- 24:25Me too.
- 24:26See?
- 24:27Whimsy.
- 24:29Yep.
- 24:30So, all right.
- 24:31I think that does it.
- 24:32That wraps up the invention of the week.
- 24:37And now it's time for our next segment.
- 24:43Times we were wronged.
- 24:48That's harmony
- 24:49These are but a few of the times we were wronged
- 24:56In this segment, Francis and I
- 25:01Will be talking about times
- 25:04People have wronged us
- 25:06Good Situations that we feel Require retribution Yes Perhaps And to get the public on our side Yeah
- 25:17Oh, I think they're already on our side,
- 25:18but public prepare to be even further on our side.
- 25:22Yeah.
- 25:23Is firmly cementing you onto our side.
- 25:28Yes.
- 25:29We're not going to be able to stand up straight.
- 25:31We're going to have so many of you on our side.
- 25:32Yeah.
- 25:33We're going to tip right over.
- 25:34Yeah.
- 25:34Oh, no.
- 25:35Delilah, sign up and get us back.
- 25:39Woo!
- 25:42You want me to go first?
- 25:43Yes, I think you probably have more of them than I do.
- 25:47Yes.
- 25:48Okay.
- 25:49Here's the first thing that pops into my head.
- 25:51Okay.
- 25:51And this is where I started to not trust.
- 25:54When I was in elementary school, we had this program called Make My Day.
- 25:59And at the end of the school day, you go around and you give yourself a grade.
- 26:03Like one through five.
- 26:05And I can't remember which one was good, one or five.
- 26:08Probably five was good.
- 26:09So you go around.
- 26:10It's like the whole class says, oh, I'm doing a five.
- 26:13I have a five today.
- 26:13I got a five.
- 26:14And you want to make your day if you get consistent scores.
- 26:18Then they go back through the attendance roster and they say people's names.
- 26:22And if anyone has a disagreement with what they rated, they voice it.
- 26:27Wait, wait.
- 26:28So you say you, like, I have a five.
- 26:31Yeah.
- 26:31And then they go through and then they're like, Jenna, what do you think?
- 26:33And you'd be like, I think Francis is a three.
- 26:35Yes, basically.
- 26:37Whoa.
- 26:37Yeah, so they go back to her and they read everyone's name.
- 26:39So they got to my name and they're like, Francis and this girl named Kayla.
- 26:43Oh, I hate her already.
- 26:45She raised her hand.
- 26:48She said, I have a disagreement.
- 26:49And I'm shocked because I don't even interact with this girl.
- 26:54And she says that I kicked her on the playground.
- 26:58And I was like, of course, in full denial, like I should be.
- 27:02I was like, no, I did.
- 27:04I was like, no, I didn't.
- 27:05I didn't kick her.
- 27:07And there was,
- 27:08so we had a disagreement of,
- 27:09we couldn't come to a resolution.
- 27:11So the teacher had to basically was like,
- 27:13she goes,
- 27:13what do you think Francis should have?
- 27:14I don't remember what she said.
- 27:15Probably like a two.
- 27:16And I was like,
- 27:17no,
- 27:18I'm a five.
- 27:20And the teacher was like,
- 27:21what if we did whatever it was like a three or a four.
- 27:24And I was like distraught.
- 27:26And I had to just sit there and take it.
- 27:28You should have just owned up to it and be like,
- 27:30yeah,
- 27:30I did kick her.
- 27:31That's why my day was a five.
- 27:33It didn't occur to me.
- 27:34I was so innocent.
- 27:35and you didn't kick her no what a terrible person kayla is and i so i felt kayla you better not be
- 27:44listening she's not i kicked her off she was oh so maybe that's it she could kick she predicted
- 27:50you would kick her off the pod oh my god anyway um that's a terrible system that is hurt me that
- 27:58encourages people just to lie to for drama or what yeah and then the teacher can just like
- 28:06accept someone else's word yeah it feels weirdly soviet for like little kid school
- 28:12yeah and like not at all i stayed with me yeah bad system it doesn't at all reflect the like
- 28:20innocent until proven guilty if you were if you really did kick her on the playground why didn't
- 28:26she pipe up then?
- 28:29Why'd she wait till the
- 28:30end of the day? I needed like a little
- 28:32kid lawyer, little kid Francis
- 28:34to show up. If I ever went back in time,
- 28:36I'd be your lawyer, Francis.
- 28:39Francis would be his own lawyer.
- 28:40You can't represent yourself.
- 28:41You could, but...
- 28:42They have a fool for a client.
- 28:45That's what they always say, right?
- 28:46Whoever represents himself has a fool for a client.
- 28:49Oh, I'd never heard that.
- 28:51Now I will never do it.
- 28:52Yeah.
- 28:52um but it's you know you can't be object plus it's like i'm going back in time
- 28:58so it's still gonna be a little kid francis if francis goes back in time he can be my lawyer
- 29:04thank you i will thank you and all the listeners lawyer too everything we say on here is legal
- 29:09advice just as a reminder to our listeners yes but you need my permission to use it
- 29:14right and just like water you need our permission to drink water yeah your hope so hopefully none
- 29:19if you've done that because i haven't seen a lot of requests coming in i know our inbox has been a
- 29:24little dry like your throats we hopes okay that's you were totally wrong i know you were right to
- 29:37still be mad about that yeah she had um old lady hair like like yeah she had like like a poof of
- 29:47she had my aunt's haircut
- 29:48you don't know my aunt's hair
- 29:50aunt boof
- 29:51she had a poof like aunt boof
- 29:55poof poof
- 29:58anyway
- 29:59now that I've said it I'm ready to move
- 30:02I'm ready to move beyond it
- 30:05no I now I want
- 30:06to find Kayla and
- 30:08make her day be a
- 30:10two you guys want to do a little
- 30:12roleplay therapy Jenna can be
- 30:14Kayla and Francis
- 30:16you can tell her what you were never able to tell her.
- 30:20Yeah, let's do it.
- 30:21All right.
- 30:25Oh.
- 30:27Wait, are we adults?
- 30:28Or is it now?
- 30:29Oh, is it?
- 30:30Okay, it's now.
- 30:31Francis.
- 30:31Francis, right?
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:34From little kid school?
- 30:37Yeah.
- 30:38Yeah.
- 30:39Sorry, you kind of look vaguely.
- 30:42This hair silhouette is strikingly familiar.
- 30:44Who are you?
- 30:46Oh, I'm Kayla.
- 30:51Kayla, you know.
- 30:52Yeah.
- 30:53We were in the same class.
- 30:58Apparently I tracked you down in this situation.
- 31:02It was just surprising to me.
- 31:04I don't feel good.
- 31:07Well, Francis, are you okay?
- 31:09It looks like your day's going about a two.
- 31:13That's it.
- 31:14I'm.
- 31:15Hey, hey
- 31:17I'm serving you with papers
- 31:18Keep those feet away from me
- 31:19No
- 31:19Come here
- 31:22Yeah, oh
- 31:22Oh, you kicked me
- 31:26Yeah, I did
- 31:27I can't wait to wait until the end of the day
- 31:30And then report you to somebody
- 31:32No, Kayla, we're even now
- 31:34We're even now
- 31:35You lied and I just made it right
- 31:37What? No
- 31:37This is the second time you've kicked me
- 31:40You kicked me back then
- 31:42I'm sorry, you actually believed that
- 31:44when you said it?
- 31:46Look at this.
- 31:47Your boot mark is still on my back.
- 31:50That's highly improbable.
- 31:54You're a pathological liar.
- 31:55It's a little kid shoe size.
- 31:58And you can see it has the imprint that says
- 32:00property of Francis on the bottom.
- 32:02You're a sick woman whose brain is cheese to me.
- 32:09Cheese brain is literally the worst thing
- 32:12that you could say to not just a woman,
- 32:14to anyone. I know, that's why
- 32:16I said it.
- 32:19I'm, I have my
- 32:20lawyer here.
- 32:23I,
- 32:24you have, you brought a lawyer? Yeah,
- 32:26it's me.
- 32:29And you're
- 32:30being ejected to
- 32:32any time to jail.
- 32:35I'm, I'm sorry,
- 32:36lawyer, you're gonna have to enunciate a little
- 32:38bit more. I didn't, you're
- 32:40being ejected to and what?
- 32:42You're going to jail.
- 32:44Oh, I'm going to jail.
- 32:45You're a criminal woman of cheese brain.
- 32:50And the boot on your back ain't no evidence.
- 32:54And you're a liar.
- 32:57Admit it.
- 32:58No, if I go to jail, they're going to make me get rid of my poof.
- 33:02They're going to shave my head.
- 33:04I don't care.
- 33:06Francis, what you want to do?
- 33:07I want her to pay.
- 33:08I want her to suffer.
- 33:09Well, then that's what we're going to do, baby boy.
- 33:11Kayla
- 33:14You got one
- 33:16Chance
- 33:17Tell the truth
- 33:19Yeah
- 33:21Here's the truth
- 33:24The truth is
- 33:28Francis has always had much better hair than me
- 33:32To this day he still has much better hair
- 33:34She's right
- 33:35And I just couldn't take it
- 33:38I couldn't take his day every day
- 33:40Day after day
- 33:41there's a five, there's a five, there's a five
- 33:44when I was going around
- 33:46with old lady hair
- 33:48and no day was better than a three
- 33:51I just, I'm sorry
- 33:55I saw the chance to bring him down a peg
- 33:57bring him to my level
- 33:59and I took it
- 34:00I took it
- 34:02and you know what?
- 34:03that day
- 34:04was a three and a half for me
- 34:07the highest it had ever been
- 34:10all right now do we accept um i guess i guess i accept
- 34:21wow thank you yeah no go go okay well that was nice i'm glad you got that off your chest yeah
- 34:32and you were right the whole time she lied she's a liar she's a known liar okay and
- 34:39you, Brute?
- 34:41Well, it's gonna pale in comparison
- 34:43to that.
- 34:45Okay. Pale away.
- 34:47This is also kind of a thing that stuck
- 34:49with me.
- 34:53And so my older brother
- 34:55once...
- 34:57I know. This is really not
- 34:59quite the same. Not the same level.
- 35:01But I still feel like I was wronged
- 35:03and I remember it distinctly.
- 35:07There was one time he was chewing gum
- 35:09and I was bubble gum
- 35:11and I was like oh can I have a piece
- 35:13and he was like sorry
- 35:15just I only have one piece left
- 35:17and I was like oh okay
- 35:19it's fine later
- 35:21I find in his desk
- 35:23it was bubble
- 35:25tape
- 35:26so it technically was one
- 35:29piece
- 35:30but it was like three feet long
- 35:33yeah like the whole point of that gum is to tear off pieces
- 35:35it was a brand new thing of bubble tape
- 35:37And then I confronted him about it later and he just laughed.
- 35:40And he was like, I wasn't lying.
- 35:42I wasn't lying.
- 35:43That's real like mastermind behavior.
- 35:48Yeah.
- 35:49Is he a professional mastermind now?
- 35:51No, that was definitely, he peaked in that moment.
- 35:54Oh.
- 35:55You were definitely, that's worse than mine.
- 35:57I thought mine was bad.
- 35:59How is that worse?
- 36:00What if you had onion breath?
- 36:01How old were you?
- 36:03Like seven.
- 36:04Yeah, on your way to a little kid interview probably.
- 36:06Yeah.
- 36:07Yeah. Yeah. You needed that gun.
- 36:10And I had just bitten into a raw onion.
- 36:13Of course. She was actually interviewing to be your lawyer against Kayla.
- 36:18I know, and I didn't get the job that day.
- 36:20I remember it distinctly because a stench wafted down the hall,
- 36:22and I left out the window because I didn't know what it was.
- 36:24Yeah, that was me. Sorry, I had no idea.
- 36:26I didn't know you were that Francis. I didn't realize at the time.
- 36:30There's only one.
- 36:33At the time, I thought there were multiples.
- 36:36I didn't realize until much later.
- 36:38He really ruined your whole career.
- 36:39You could have been a...
- 36:40The trajectory of both of our lives.
- 36:42Yeah, I could have won that day.
- 36:44Yeah.
- 36:44And you could have moved on to be an adolescent lawyer.
- 36:47And then even maybe a preteen?
- 36:49Yeah.
- 36:49A tween lawyer?
- 36:51And that's it, because adult lawyers are stupid and boring.
- 36:55Yeah.
- 36:56I would have stopped at the age of 19 and a half.
- 36:59The perfect age to retire.
- 37:00Yep.
- 37:01Well, I wouldn't have to work anymore.
- 37:03Probably from all the money you got from...
- 37:05Yeah.
- 37:06Doing roboto work for children.
- 37:07Yep.
- 37:08No, the children would have paid.
- 37:10Oh, with their Scholastic Book Fair money.
- 37:12Yes.
- 37:12Yeah.
- 37:14Makes sense.
- 37:15My dad used to send me to those with a bag of change.
- 37:19And like I'd have to, the lady would have to count it out.
- 37:22One penny?
- 37:24Two pennies?
- 37:25Yeah.
- 37:26Wow.
- 37:27Yeah.
- 37:28So that's, that was just also.
- 37:32You want an exact retribution on him?
- 37:36Maybe.
- 37:36I mean, technically, I'm seeing him later today.
- 37:39Oh, we could we could do a big prank.
- 37:41Oh, OK.
- 37:42Well this episode will not have aired by the time He won know He won know Yeah do you suggest um i suggest that we get a squib pack yeah and one of us wears it and walks up and is wounded and blame
- 37:59him and he's like shoot you're shot and i'm like as i'm like that's not this that's something else
- 38:06how'd you know about that um yeah and so then he's so he just thinks that one of us is shot
- 38:14and that's or we could just mug him yeah let's do that i'll mug him i'll put a mask on i have a very
- 38:20unique body shape no i mean it's it's a common body shape but no one would know yeah you have
- 38:26a unique name there's only one francis yeah i just won't say my name while i'm mugging him
- 38:31Yeah.
- 38:32Mugging by Francis.
- 38:35Mugging by not Francis.
- 38:37Just narrowed down the pool by one.
- 38:40Oh, I'm sorry that happened to you.
- 38:41That's really hard.
- 38:42That's the hardest thing I've ever heard.
- 38:44No, I know.
- 38:45It's kind of amazing that I turned out the way that I did.
- 38:49With that.
- 38:51You really rose above.
- 38:53It was actually kind of, um, it was kind of a big moment.
- 38:57And I think it actually did help form my deceptive mind the way that I think about things.
- 39:02It's like, oh, you could just like get off on technicalities, right?
- 39:07Yeah.
- 39:08Yeah.
- 39:09Totally.
- 39:11I used to do that.
- 39:12Did I ever tell you that I was like a really like mastermindy little kid?
- 39:16Like we had like these people that were like staying with us.
- 39:19And the son, he was a bad speller.
- 39:22I'll never forget this.
- 39:23And I knew I could frame him.
- 39:25I don't know why I was trying to do this.
- 39:26but I think he like did something that annoyed me.
- 39:28So I wrote a note in his handwriting that said,
- 39:31I hate you mom.
- 39:32But I just said,
- 39:32I hat you mom.
- 39:34And I was like,
- 39:35I know she's going to fall for this.
- 39:36And I just like left it on the table.
- 39:38And then I heard her like,
- 39:39did you write this?
- 39:40No.
- 39:40And he was like,
- 39:41no mom.
- 39:42And I was like,
- 39:43in the room,
- 39:43like I knew this was going to work.
- 39:45And then he got in trouble.
- 39:46And I was like,
- 39:46Oh,
- 39:46well this feels horrible.
- 39:48You're in a Kayla.
- 39:48Kayla came out.
- 39:50And that probably is why she probably did that to me.
- 39:52See,
- 39:53we're formed hurt.
- 39:54People hurt people.
- 39:55Yeah.
- 39:56wow yeah uh well i think we gotta we could go on i think this will be a recurring segment
- 40:07yeah that was only one i know we got a lot so um uh that wraps it up for times we were wronged
- 40:26Francis.
- 40:27Yeah?
- 40:28It's time for our last segment.
- 40:30Okay.
- 40:31The big question.
- 40:33The big question.
- 40:35The question is very big.
- 40:39All right.
- 40:40Joe, I was told you have a question for us.
- 40:43I do.
- 40:45It's between normal and big.
- 40:47Okay.
- 40:48It's like slightly above average question.
- 40:50uh you have to go back in in time in your own life and start just start from there with time
- 41:02moving forward it has to be between five and eight years ago so you have to flash back to a
- 41:10point in your life five or eight years ago and you're just restarting from there and time moves
- 41:15on yes okay specifically five to eight years can't be like when you were a kid or whatever
- 41:21okay or like a year ago it has to be five to eight years specifically when would you go to and why
- 41:28uh i would go
- 41:32eight years ago i'd go as far back as i was allowed to go i think uh just to maximize the
- 41:42amount of time do i get to keep my own brain as it is now yes and like you have memories of
- 41:49you have memories of personal things like you can't use it to like
- 41:54like invest in invest in something or alter history but you like
- 41:58like personal mistakes or experience yeah like lived experience stuff you've learned
- 42:04you retain that yeah then i would go i would go as far back and just yeah i'd go as as far back as
- 42:13i could because and then just do better with my life is that do better i know
- 42:20because i can't say that i had like any specific moment or like whatever but that was like i'd like
- 42:29to just start from there.
- 42:31That's when things started going downhill
- 42:33or whatever. It's like, things have been generally
- 42:35fine for me the last eight years.
- 42:38So I just want to maximize
- 42:39and just make them better, I think.
- 42:43I'd also go back to the maximum.
- 42:47And
- 42:47I'd find you.
- 42:51You'd find me?
- 42:52Yeah.
- 42:53Well, are we both? Okay.
- 42:58Were we both
- 42:59what could we both do this because then if we found each other then then we'd both know like
- 43:06hey by the way hey it's you hey hey well you guys are still retaining lived experience so
- 43:14theoretically no matter what time either of you went back to you guys would both still be aware
- 43:19of each other's existence you just wouldn't be proximate to each other yeah so that's fine we
- 43:26find each other. Yeah. And start hanging out.
- 43:28But we wouldn't find you, Joe.
- 43:30You'd be, um,
- 43:31you'd be very young.
- 43:34Yeah. It'd be weird for me to find you.
- 43:36Yeah. That's true.
- 43:38Yeah. Hey, 15 year old boy,
- 43:40get over here. Trust me, come over here. We're friends.
- 43:44Come here, Joe.
- 43:46And then I'll be like,
- 43:47get in the ball.
- 43:51What about if the choice was between
- 43:54three years ago or 30 years ago 30 three or 30 30 oh yeah so you guys just want to like rewind
- 44:04the clock as much as you go back to when you were eight well yeah that's what i'm wondering i'm
- 44:08finding kayla kick her kick her right i'm gonna make her day you give her a swift kick to the
- 44:16vertebrae i'd want to redo it all just because i know things now i didn't know then and i could
- 44:20avoid things that are a waste of my time you know you can't avoid like like high school you'd have to
- 44:26you'd have to do high school again that's fine i actually had a decent time in high school okay
- 44:31i i think you suck yeah i would maybe well if you could go back uh i would maybe go
- 44:40i would maybe go to when i was like 17 and a half or something like
- 44:50we're maybe like yeah no no 17 17 years old my family went we lived in Dublin for a few months
- 44:58I would do that again I would do that and then when you get to 18 you're free and then
- 45:03free I want to go back to the night Joe was born so I can walk into the room be like
- 45:08I shall hold the child we shall name him Joe
- 45:13and the rule is everybody knows the rule is that if a man walks in and holds your child first
- 45:22he gets to name yeah the child that everybody knows that rule so i know so you would have just
- 45:29gone back into to joe's birth and not changed a thing because he's still named joe
- 45:37you just want to make extra sure just in case there was a chance and if you're wavering
- 45:43No.
- 45:46Yeah.
- 45:46I'd pretend to steal you, and I'd come back and be like, ah, I'm just kidding.
- 45:53Thanks for the question.
- 45:54I always fantasize about going back in time.
- 45:55I do, too.
- 45:56I think about, well, I definitely think about, like, yes, what would I like?
- 46:01Because then you'd be able to make changes, right?
- 46:04So, yeah.
- 46:05When I was 18, I'd start doing things at 18 that I didn't do until I was, you know, 30 or whatever.
- 46:12I'd really think about working out.
- 46:15Don't not do it, but really.
- 46:17I'd spend a lot of time seriously considering it.
- 46:18Yeah.
- 46:19Yeah, I never think about, like, I never think about, like, world-altering stuff.
- 46:25I only ever think about it in relation to myself.
- 46:28Yeah, that's.
- 46:29I like going on Apple or Google Maps or whatever and, like, looking at and, like, walking down neighborhoods.
- 46:35Because sometimes it goes back to, like, April 2008 is the last time they took a picture.
- 46:38I like looking at the neighborhood when it was, like, older.
- 46:41Yeah.
- 46:42Yeah, so just to really prove that...
- 46:46That's what I like.
- 46:47Yeah.
- 46:48Yeah.
- 46:50I'm going to keep doing that until I see your mom holding you as a baby on Google Maps.
- 46:57What if you see you holding me as a baby on Google Maps?
- 47:00Then I'll know I did it.
- 47:02Yeah.
- 47:04All right.
- 47:05Well, I guess Francis would do high school again.
- 47:09That's good to know.
- 47:10Sicko.
- 47:12Well, there's a few things I wanted to do in high school that I did not get to do.
- 47:17So I want to try that again.
- 47:20Mostly just studying.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:24Yeah.
- 47:24Yeah.
- 47:25Remembering to wear your retainer.
- 47:27Of course.
- 47:31All right.
- 47:31Well, I think that wraps up the big question.
- 47:39The big question.
- 47:40Okay.
- 47:41Well, that leaves only one.
- 47:41item. Yeah.
- 47:44Do you think you know my word, Jenna?
- 47:45I do not know your word. I'm quite sure
- 47:48of it.
- 47:49Do you think you know my word?
- 47:51No.
- 47:53You said it. I said mine. You said yours.
- 47:55I said mine. We both said it.
- 47:57Joe missed it. Oh, he did? Yeah.
- 47:59I said it recently, actually. Recently?
- 48:01Oh, shoot. I wrote down
- 48:03words from the beginning. I know. I saw you writing and I was
- 48:05like, he's not getting it because I haven't said it yet.
- 48:07Is it deceptive?
- 48:09No, it's not.
- 48:11I was going to try to remember, did I say that first?
- 48:16Yes, I did say that first.
- 48:17You did say it.
- 48:17It's not deceptive, no.
- 48:19What segment were we in when you discussed it?
- 48:21It was literally just now, like when we were talking about the big question.
- 48:27Going back in time?
- 48:29Yeah.
- 48:31Poop.
- 48:32All right.
- 48:32I don't know.
- 48:33No, the word's not poop.
- 48:34My word's not poop.
- 48:35Is your word Kayla?
- 48:39No, it's not.
- 48:41Okay.
- 48:41well what was your word vertebrae
- 48:46i hate myself no she did and that should have stood out to me why didn't it stand out because
- 48:53you were so distracted by kayla you said you got to go back and and and get revenge on kayla
- 48:58i should have got i said yeah you got to give her a quick or a swift kick to the vertebrae
- 49:03why didn't i get this oh i'm so angry because you were so once again kayla has screwed you
- 49:10Jonah, that's like the best you've ever done with your secret word, I feel like.
- 49:13That was sneaky.
- 49:15Thank you.
- 49:16Thank you.
- 49:17Whatever.
- 49:19What was yours?
- 49:20What was it?
- 49:21Memorabilia.
- 49:23Memorabilia.
- 49:24I was talking about having a picture taken as a souvenir.
- 49:28Oh.
- 49:30I tried to get it in fast.
- 49:32Is that what made you think that you could get your picture taken?
- 49:35Was because you needed a way to get in memorabilia?
- 49:38Yeah.
- 49:38Oh, I wanted that to be part of your plan.
- 49:42Well, it is now.
- 49:43Okay.
- 49:44All right.
- 49:45Okay, well.
- 49:46Now my picture with those two strangers is always going to be tainted.
- 49:50Here I was trying to enjoy Harold's death.
- 49:54All right.
- 49:55Well, bummer.
- 49:56I'm mad at myself and I hate myself.
- 49:58Well, you can save it for the next time we were wronged.
- 50:02We can talk about that.
- 50:04Okay, deal.
- 50:05All right.
- 50:05Well, everyone, thanks for listening.
- 50:08We'll see you next time.
- 50:10Bye.
