- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. Ready to learn some new words? Luna: Always! What are we diving into today? Lucas: Today we're going into the kitchen. Luna: Ooh, I love the kitchen. As long as I don't have to cook. Lucas: You don't have to cook. But you will learn to talk about kitchen furniture and appliances. Luna: Sounds good. Let's start. Lucas: You know, talking about this reminds me — if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with your German, a small group of listeners supports us through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's what keeps this show ad-free and going. Luna: Yeah, it's a nice way to say thanks if you find the episodes useful. But no pressure at all. Lucas: Exactly. Now back to the kitchen. First word: der Kühlschrank. Luna: Der Kühlschrank. Lucas: Good. Kühlschrank means refrigerator. Say it again. Luna: Der Kühlschrank. Lucas: Perfect. Next: der Herd. Luna: Der Herd. Lucas: Herd is the stove or cooker. Try it. Luna: Der Herd. Lucas: Now: die Spüle. Luna: Die Spüle. Lucas: Spüle is the sink. Notice die — it's feminine. Luna: Die Spüle. Got it. Lucas: And finally: der Schrank. Luna: Der Schrank. Lucas: Schrank is a cupboard or cabinet. In the kitchen, it's often a cupboard for dishes. Luna: Der Schrank. Okay, I think I have them. Lucas: Let's practice with a little scene. Imagine you walk into a kitchen. I'll ask: Was siehst du? Luna: Was siehst du? What do I see? Lucas: Exactly. Answer: Ich sehe einen Kühlschrank, einen Herd, eine Spüle und einen Schrank. Luna: Ich sehe einen Kühlschrank, einen Herd, eine Spüle und einen Schrank. Lucas: Wow, that was smooth. You already used the accusative forms: einen and eine. Luna: I did? Cool. So it's der Kühlschrank becomes einen Kühlschrank. Lucas: Exactly. And die Spüle becomes eine Spüle. Let's say them all again together. Luna: Okay. Der Kühlschrank, der Herd, die Spüle, der Schrank. Lucas: Now with 'ich sehe': Ich sehe den Kühlschrank, den Herd, die Spüle, den Schrank. Luna: Wait, den? Not einen? Lucas: Good catch. If you say 'I see the fridge' it's 'den Kühlschrank' because it's specific. But 'einen' means 'a'. Both are accusative. Luna: Ah, okay. So den for masculine specific, einen for masculine indefinite. Lucas: You've got it. Let's do a quick review. What's the fridge? Luna: Der Kühlschrank. Lucas: The stove? Luna: Der Herd. Lucas: The sink? Luna: Die Spüle. Lucas: The cupboard? Luna: Der Schrank. Lucas: Perfect! Now, think of your own kitchen at home. Can you name three things you see? Luna: In my kitchen? Hmm. Der Kühlschrank, der Herd, und... die Spüle. Lucas: Exactly. You just described your kitchen in German. Luna: I did! That feels great. Lucas: And that's all for today's episode. Remember, practice these words a few times today, and they'll stick. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. See you next time! Lucas: Tschüss, and keep learning with Fexingo.
