- 1:41Cepeda will be at first base. Batting sixth and doing the catching will be Ed Bailey.
- 1:48Ed Bailey will be the catcher. Tom Holler, who was injured in yesterday's ball game, reported ready for action today, and it could be that he'll get into the ball game.
- 1:58He is not in the starting lineup, but Dark says he can play if needed.
- 2:02Batting seventh and playing at third base will be Jim Davenport. Davenport at third base.
- 2:08Batting eighth and playing shortstop will be Jose Fagan. Fagan will be the shortstop.

- 2:26For the Dodgers leading off and playing shortstop will be Maury Wills.
- 2:31Maury Wills, the shortstop.

- 2:40Batting third and playing left field will be Duke Schneider. Schneider in left field and the captain, Duke Schneider, of the Dodgers that just moved up to home plate, along with the four umpires.

- 2:56Batting fourth and playing at third base today will be Tommy Davis. Davis at third base.
- 3:02Batting fifth and playing first base will be Wally Moon. Moon at first base.
- 3:09Batting sixth and playing right field will be Frank Howard. Howard in right field.
- 3:15Batting seventh and doing the catching will be John Roseborough. Roseborough, the catcher.
- 3:20Batting eighth and playing in center field will be Willie Davis. Davis in center field.
- 3:26And batting ninth and doing the pitching for the Dodgers will be Johnny Padre as a left-hander.
- 3:32The umpires, Bajas, will be behind the plate. Donatelli at first base. Jocko Conlon down at second base. And Al Barlich will be on at third.
- 3:42Well right now, moving into the mic, all set to bring you to play-by-play is Al Helfer of the Houston Colts. And Al, we've picked you up mighty strong in Detroit all summer. You're big in Detroit.
- 3:53Is that right, George? Oh, you've come in there with a Houston Colt network like gangbusters.
- 4:00Well, we were very glad to be listening to you.
- 4:02Thank you very much, George.
- 4:03All right, everybody. It's very good to be here with George Kelly this afternoon. He'll bring you the final action of the ballgame to be played here between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants.
- 4:16We expect an afternoon of baseball that will be nip and tuck all the way, especially when it's being pitched by Johnny Padre and Juan Marichal.
- 4:26These two men know that the pressure is down on their shoulders. Their ball clubs will be depending upon them here this afternoon.
- 4:33Johnny Padre, the withering New York left-hander, is out on the mound now. Let us set the Dodgers for you defensively. It's the same ball club. Started the ballgame yesterday.
- 4:43For the Dodgers at first base will be Wally Moon. At second base, Jim Gilliam. The shortstop will be Mari Wills. At third base, Tommy Davis.
- 4:53Out in left field, the veteran Duke Snyder. Despite the fact that his knee has kicked up on him slightly, he's out in left field.
- 5:00In center field, Wally Davis. And in right field is big Frank Howard. Behind the plate, Johnny Rosebrew.
- 5:06And out on the mound, the southpaw, Johnny Padre. Johnny getting ready now for his first pitch to Harvey Keene, the leadoff man of the San Francisco Giants.
- 5:16Keene batting a 3-0-3. The pitch in there for the straights.
- 5:20Now this ballgame is on the fire.
- 5:24Johnny Padre, who first began his professional pitching career back in the year of 1951 at Newport News in the Piedmont League.
- 5:31Johnny works fastball to the plate. Nuts in there. Strike three.
- 5:40The Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants.
- 5:43Ten-twenty ballgames played between these two teams. They stand off at ten and ten. They're one and one here in this series.
- 5:49The pitch swung on by Keene. Line shot, the left field, base hit.
- 5:52Snyder over, grabs it on the skip, fires it back in, and Keene is the base runner at first.
- 5:57Now Johnny Padres has been touched for the first base hit in the ballgame.
- 6:01Padres, incidentally, has pitched 250 innings of ball this year.
- 6:08And his earned run average is 3.85. He has given up 70 walks and 178 strikeouts. He has amassed.
- 6:15Hitting left-handed now is Chuck Hiller batting a 275, choking up on the handle.
- 6:19The pitch, there's the bunt, pushed down the first base side. And the Dodgers were expecting it.
- 6:23It goes foul.
- 6:25So right away, Alvin Dark and company are trying to get that runner right down to second base and get off and scoring right away.
- 6:32Boy, this certainly was a Donny Brook here yesterday. Believe me, a final score of eight to seven.
- 6:37People went home from here yesterday, hoarse but happy.
- 6:43Harvey Keene takes his lead at first base now, hit her up at the plate.
- 6:46Spurs off to bump this ball, and he does out in front of the plate.
- 6:48It's going to be played by Roseboro. His only chance is to go to first.
- 6:51Gilliam covers first base, takes the tie. The sacrifice Washington team moves down to second base.
- 6:58So Chuck Hiller will not be counted as a time at bat on this one.
- 7:05Billy Pellew, the right fielder, coming up now.
- 7:09This fellow has been a tar as strength, too, for the San Francisco Giants. This year he has batted at 316 for them.
- 7:16He has 25 home runs and 98 runs driven in. He's a right-hand hitter standing deep at the plate.
- 7:22Overly close stance, but his left foot forward to the plate, holds it back way down to the knob.
- 7:28Harvey Keene is the runner at second base.
- 7:32Pondras checks him over the shoulder. It was a curve ball that slammed foul into the ground for strike one. No balls in one strike.
- 7:39Following Alou will have the big guy, Willie Mays.
- 7:45Johnny Pondras, who is no stranger to the pressure and the tension that rests on his shoulders right now.
- 7:50He's an old pro. He's been out there a long time.
- 7:58Down comes the pitch, right in off the hips. One ball and one strike.
- 8:03Johnny Pondras has pitched in five World Series games with the Dodgers.
- 8:08In 53 and 55 when they were the Birdman Dodgers, he appeared in ball games for them.
- 8:13And as the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1959, Johnny pitched in two games in that World Series.
- 8:19So Johnny knows what it is to be out there when the chips are down.
- 8:22Behind the plate, Johnny Roseburg pops him at his side as a target.
- 8:26Down comes the pitch. Swung on and beaten down into the ground again.
- 8:30Strike two. One ball and two strikes.
- 8:33For Philippe Alou, the outfield has spammed around the left and playing him deep.
- 8:38The hole in the outfield is in right center, 390 feet through the right center wall.
- 8:46Gilliam playing at second base is pulled over behind second almost.
- 8:50For this right hand hitter and he's playing back on the rim of the outfield grass.
- 8:53That's to say the left side of the Dodger infield is deep. Keen at second.
- 8:56The pitch to the plate taken on the inside down across the shoes.
- 9:00Two balls and two strikes.
- 9:05In case you just hooked up with us, the NBC microphones are here again today at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
- 9:14The ball game has started with Keen having singled to left field.
- 9:19Hiller sacrificing him down to second. He is at second base right now.
- 9:24Up at the plate is Philippe Alou. His count is two balls and two strikes.
- 9:28And there is no score. Johnny Padres on the mound for the Dodgers.
- 9:31Comes set. Delivers fastball. Swung on, broken bat.
- 9:34Head right back to the mound. Padres turns closed over to first base to move on.
- 9:38And Keen holds the second.
- 9:44So there are two outs here in the top half of the first inning.
- 9:47John Willie Mays, who leads the majors in home runs with 49, has 140 runs driven in and batting at 304.
- 9:56Willie Mays digging in.
- 10:00Mays in yesterday's ball game had one base hit and that came in eighth inning.
- 10:05He did not score any runs nor did he drive any in.
- 10:08He played twice to center, fouled out to the catcher, forced a man and singled to left his last time up.
- 10:13So he was 1-4-5 yesterday.
- 10:17Right hand hitter. Many times has been called the meal ticket of the San Francisco Giants.
- 10:23Johnny Padres is ready. Comes set. Looks at Mays. Delivers to him. Fastball. Ripped in there for the strike.
- 10:32Johnny Padres is going in his ball game, ladies and gentlemen, on two days rest.
- 10:37Drysdale yesterday gave all he had. He was a tired pitcher.
- 10:41Jack Sanford had to go out after five innings. Jack had been suffering from flu, but went yesterday for his ball club.
- 10:49Went as far as he could.
- 10:51Padres fastball inside. Mays jumping back to take it right across the knees.
- 10:55Accounts one ball and one strike.
- 10:57For Mays, the outfield fan, the left playing deep.
- 11:01And here in this brilliant California sunshine, we have very little breeze blowing.
- 11:04What we do have is blowing out towards center field.
- 11:09Harvey Keene with two out is still on his second base in this scoreless ball game.
- 11:13Johnny Padres takes his sign from Johnny Roseboro.
- 11:16The left hander goes to the stretch and comes set. Checks his runner. Delivers the play. Fastball.
- 11:21Punch foul off to the right of the plate. Back into the second. They're out of play.
- 11:31One ball, two strike count on Willie Mays. Should Willie get on, we'll have Orlando Cepeda.
- 11:37Orlando, the first baseman of the San Francisco Giants.
- 11:48Padres with his right hand on his knee. Leans forward. Gets his sign. Roseboro weak wags into him.
- 11:54And then time is called. They can't seem to get together on the signals.
- 11:57And Roseboro cuts out to the mound and have a talk with Padres.
- 12:01We're in the top half of the first inning here at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
- 12:06And it's come right down to the very last wire.
- 12:12Ball club that wins this one will meet the New York Yankees starting tomorrow in the World Series.
- 12:19See the commissioners here looking on at this one this afternoon.
- 12:26Now for the one and two delivery. An overhand fastball swung on by Willie Mays and pop foul.
- 12:31That brings back to the crowd out of play.
- 12:46One ball, two strikes on Willie. Wide spread eagle stance with his right hand hitter.
- 12:51He spreads himself out pretty well in batter spots.
- 12:54Harvey Keene takes a pretty good size lead at second base. It's a scoreless ball game.
- 12:58Top of the first inning, two outs. Padres delivers soft curve ball.
- 13:02His hammered right back to the mound.
- 13:04He checks the wing. The goal of the first baser is fouled.
- 13:06That's all. It's Willie Mays trying to check his wing.
- 13:09That's good. He taps it back to the mound and Padres. Got him.
- 13:12No runs. There was one base hit. There were no errors. And one man was left on.
- 13:17So the score at the end of half an inning.
- 13:19That's the Giants nothing. And the Los Angeles Dodgers are now coming to bat.
- 13:23And now here is a message from our sponsor.

- 14:27And drive the cars with the exclusive features of tomorrow.
- 14:30From Suda Baker for 63.
- 14:38We're moving to the last half of inning number one here now.
- 14:40The Los Angeles Dodgers get their first whack at it.
- 14:43They'll be facing right hander Juan Marchal.
- 14:47This fellow's a pretty good pitcher.
- 14:50Marchal has won 18 this year and has lost 11.
- 14:53As George Gell has already told you he's three and one.
- 14:56Three wins one loss.
- 14:57With the Los Angeles Dodgers and six and four with them on a lifetime.
- 15:00Mari Wills the switch hitter is the first man up.
- 15:03Batting left handed.
- 15:04Hitting a 296.
- 15:05Marchal comes to him with an overhand curve and drills it in there for the strike.
- 15:12Jim Davenport is up shallow at third base.
- 15:14Orlando Cepeda is up shallow at first base.
- 15:17They're expecting Wills might be trying to put his way on.
- 15:20He's the scat back on the base pass and they don't want him to get there if they can keep him off.
- 15:24Pitcher's hit right back to Marchal.
- 15:26Off the bare hander Marchal is after it up for the first wild.
- 15:29At first base Mari Wills is going on to second base.
- 15:32And that's where he'll stay at second base.
- 15:40An error will be charged.
- 15:42Will the pitcher.
- 15:46However Mari Wills will capture first base on the base hit.
- 15:52A wrap off the bare hand of one Marchal.
- 15:56And his wild throw finally trying desperately to get Mari Wills at first base.
- 16:01What's Mari on second for the first error in the ballgame.
- 16:04So here we go.
- 16:06Marchal is charged with the error.
- 16:08Right away he's in trouble here in the last half of the first inning.
- 16:11He's given up the first hit.
- 16:13To the LA Dodgers and Alvin Dark.
- 16:15Comes off the mound to see if Marchal is all right.
- 16:18He tried to feel that ball with his bare right hand.
- 16:23And as we used to say back home.
- 16:25Give the devilies do.
- 16:27The young fella undoubtedly had a stinging right hand when he fielded that ball finally and made his throw to first base.
- 16:33Alvin Dark is questioning Marchal.
- 16:35And apparently he's going he's all right he wants to keep on going.
- 16:39One more show.
- 16:41First start pitching in the States.
- 16:431958 at Michigan City.
- 16:45Midwest League.
- 16:47Came from Springfield and Tacoma to the San Francisco Giants.
- 16:52He was born down in Laguna Venere in the Dominican Republic.
- 16:57He's 24 years old.
- 16:59Will be 25 on the 20th of this month.
- 17:02He pitches now with Jim Gilliam who swings on the first pitch and pops it up.
- 17:06Back by second base.
- 17:07Hiller calls for it and.
- 17:09Oh there's the first up.
- 17:11Gilliam wandered up there batting a two seventy three.
- 17:14Now comes the veteran Duke Snyder.
- 17:32Duke Snyder standing up there.
- 17:35The Duke playing his 80th ballgame for the Dodgers this year.
- 17:38He's hitting a two seventy one.
- 17:39He has five home runs.
- 17:41Thirty runs.
- 17:42Murray will lead at second base is short.
- 17:45Like on the shortstop is in behind him.
- 17:47They pitch the plate swung on by the Duke and popped up and fouled around.
- 17:50This will come back over the net and out of play.
- 17:58Setting the Giants for you here defensively in the last half of the first inning.
- 18:01So Peta is at first base Chuck Hiller is your second baseman.
- 18:05Jose Pagan is at shortstop.
- 18:07At third is Jim Davenport.
- 18:09Out in left field is Harvey Keene.
- 18:11The center fielder Willie Mays.
- 18:13And in right field.
- 18:14Billy Bellew.
- 18:15Bailey is behind the plate.
- 18:17Ed Bailey.
- 18:18Marshall pitching.
- 18:19He does this time and it's swung on.
- 18:21There's a high pop up for the mound.
- 18:22Coming on as Jim Davenport the third baseman.
- 18:24Calls for it and he's got it.
- 18:26Turns around to make sure that Murray Wills doesn't try to dig for third base.
- 18:30Another two outs here in the last half of the first inning of this very important ballgame.
- 18:34Murray Wills who's single off the pitcher's fair right hand.
- 18:37And moved on to second base on the Eric Crowell at first base by Marshall.
- 18:43Is riding at second representing the possible first run in the ballgame.
- 18:48If you recall in the top half of the first inning the Giants got Harvey Keene to second but he died there with one out.
- 18:54Phillip Bellew hit back to the mound and so did Willie Mays.
- 18:57Willie Mays hit back to the mound on a check swing.
- 19:00He was trying to check up on a change up curve that had been thrown to him.
- 19:05He tapped it back to the mound.
- 19:08So Ponderous had gotten out of his first inning and now Marshall is trying to wait around in hot water here and get out of the last half of the first inning.
- 19:15Jim Davenport goes deep now at third base.
- 19:18The guy goes deep at shortstop and allows Wills to take a couple of steps lead.
- 19:22With this big right hand hitter up there.
- 19:24Leading the league at 3.44 is Tommy Davis with 26 home runs and 151 runs driven in.
- 19:29He leads in that department too.
- 19:31There's the attempt to pick up or the start of one.
- 19:33It's always not made from the mound however as Barry Wills went diving back in on his stomach.
- 19:40Yesterday on his 30th birthday he stole his 101st base this year and also scored a winning run.
- 19:48Marshall delivers and Davis takes a cut at it and fouls it back.
- 19:52No balls in one strike. That's a count on Tommy Davis.
- 19:55He'll be followed by Wally Moon shooting it on.
- 19:59So both sides have had a threat here in the first inning.
- 20:02The Giants could not cash in on theirs.
- 20:04Let's see what the Dodgers can do with their opportunity.
- 20:08Barry Wills leading at second base now taking a pretty good size lead.
- 20:12Both the second baseman and the shortstop are pinching in on him to keep him close.
- 20:17Marshall stretches, comes set, checks the runner, delivers now to Davis and overhand,
- 20:22pitch that's outside. One ball and one strike.
- 20:27Marshall throws the slider. His curveball sinks pretty well.
- 20:33He's one of the few guys I can remember in the league left that goes into the big,
- 20:40stretching the big windup. In comes the pitch. It's her right across the fists.
- 20:47That's one ball, two strikes now.
- 20:52Marshall never gives you the impression that he's pitching in a hurry.
- 20:57His movements are all very deliberate.
- 21:02Hiding that ball behind his back, he takes his sign out, Matt Bailey.
- 21:05Looks down at Tommy Davis, the right-hand hitter, sending just off the plate.
- 21:08Looks at Wills at second base now, checks him as he comes set.
- 21:12Rairs back, delivers, the pitch is swung on and popped out into very short left field.
- 21:17The shortstop back, Pagan has it and the inning is over.
- 21:21Well, that's it here in the last half of first inning. No runs.
- 21:24There was one hit, there was an error, and there was one man left on.
- 21:27So the score at the end of one full inning of play.
- 21:30It's the Giants nothing and the Dodgers have nothing.
- 21:35Well, the chips are down here in Los Angeles today and Schlitz is happy to again be your host.
- 21:41When good things happen, Schlitz is always on hand.
- 21:45So settle back and enjoy a friendly glass of Schlitz.
- 21:48No question about who the winner will be when you get together with Schlitz.
- 21:52Real gusto and a great light beer.
- 21:56Let's get together with a glass of Schlitz, a great light beer from Chiquet.
- 22:12Get that real gusto only Schlitz has got from the creamy white collar to the very last drop.
- 22:20Now let's get together with a glass of Schlitz, a friendly glass of Schlitz.
- 22:27Real gusto and a great light beer.
- 22:32Schlitz, the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Milwaukee and other cities.
- 22:36So there's no scores. We're going to the top of the second.
- 22:39Sepeda will lead off and here's out.
- 22:41All right, George, all set to go here.
- 22:43Orlando Sepeda hitting a 3.06 with 35 home runs and 113 runs driven in.
- 22:49A right-hand batter, overly close stance, stands way deep in play.
- 22:55It's about as deep in batter's box as law will allow.
- 22:58Fastball fired to him by Padres. It's over for the strike.
- 23:01Johnny Padres, who has won 15 this year and lost 13.
- 23:04Only one time has he beaten the San Francisco Giants and three times they have tabbed him.
- 23:10Padres is ready now.
- 23:11Delivers overhand fastball, swung on and hit out into a very short right center field.
- 23:16The placement Gilliam under makes it down.
- 23:19Oh, went away here in the top half of the second inning.
- 23:21The scoreless ball game. That will bring on Ed Bailey.
- 23:25We should like to remind you once again, everybody, that throughout the afternoon,
- 23:29the NBC Network will follow the orbital flight of Commander Chirra.
- 23:34And we'll bring you all of the latest information,
- 23:37even if it necessitates our cutting in and out of the ball game to do so.
- 23:43Sure, you'll want to know just as much about that gentleman as you do about the men who are playing ball here.
- 23:49Curve ball to Ed Bailey is in there for the strike.
- 23:56The ball is one strike. Bailey batting at 228, 17 home runs and 45 runs driven in.
- 24:03In rides the pitch to Eddie. It's low.
- 24:07One ball and one strike.
- 24:15Bailey played in the first ball game in this playoff series up at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
- 24:22Had one hit. Swings on this pitch and hits it down to the right side while he won't digs it out of the dirt.
- 24:26His first base steps on first. That's all for Bailey.
- 24:32Two up, two down here in the top half of the second inning of the scoreless ball game.
- 24:35And that will bring along Jim Davenport, who has been dropped down to hit in the number seven position.
- 24:41Yesterday Davenport hit in the number two spot.
- 24:46Was up six times and had a pair of base hits and one run driven in.
- 24:53Right-handed batsman.
- 24:56297 is his batting percentage. He has 14 home runs and 57 runs driven in.
- 25:01Padres feeds him the fastball and that's inside for ball one.
- 25:05The play down par here this afternoon, Dusty Boggess.
- 25:08Huggied down to Telley at first base. At second is Jocko Conlon and at third is the hellbarlet.
- 25:13The coaches here for the Giants this afternoon, Westrom at first, Lockman at third.
- 25:17Soft curve offered to the plate. It's low and Davenport's count now goes to two balls and no strikes.
- 25:23Johnny Padres. On the 30th day of September.
- 25:29Became 30 years old.
- 25:33Hit comes the pitch. Low and on the inside.
- 25:37So Johnny has gotten behind here to Davenport.
- 25:41On a three-nothing count, there are two outs here at the top of the second inning.
- 25:44There are no base runners for the Giants and there is no score in the ball game.
- 25:49Boggess rares back now, comes in with a fastball and lays it down the plate.
- 25:54Counts three balls and one strike.
- 25:58First ball game, very fine ball game as far as Billy Pierce was concerned.
- 26:06He pitched a magnificent game for the Giants at Candlestick.
- 26:10Pitches one on and next to it's best by two.
- 26:13That's a three-two count now on Jim Davenport.
- 26:16Billy Pierce pitched a fine three-hitter and won it eight to nothing.
- 26:19First ball game.
- 26:21And in yesterday's nip and tuck affair,
- 26:25the Giants used eight pitchers to the Dodgers five before the ball game went to the Dodgers eight to seven.
- 26:32High fly ball hit the center field. Davis should have this one easily.
- 26:35And he does.
- 26:37Nothing across here in the top half of the second inning as the Giants go quietly.
- 26:43And the score at the end of an inning and a half.
- 26:46San Francisco nothing and Los Angeles nothing.
- 26:49And now here is a commercial message.
- 26:52Howdy folks, this is Art Baker.
- 26:54I want to tell you about one of the most unusual products I've ever used.
- 26:58It's called STP, a special oil concentrate developed in Germany and now made in America.
- 27:04STP blends with your oil and coats every moving part of the engine with a film of the slipperiest oil you can imagine,
- 27:11reducing friction to almost nothing, giving you more usable power.
- 27:16What makes STP so special is that after people use it,
- 27:19they notice such an improvement in their car's performance that they go out and brag on it just as I'm doing now.
- 27:24The wonders of STP were discovered by race and sport car enthusiasts interested in more speed.
- 27:30Then truck operators noticed how much better and longer their equipment operated after it had been added to their oil.
- 27:36And now motorists looking for more compression and power are also discovering STP.
- 27:41I hope you will try a pint of STP yourself and end up bragging like the rest of us.
- 27:46Available at service stations, garages, and car dealers everywhere.
- 27:49STP, just 135 per pint.
- 27:53The Giants have committed one error. Wally Moon, the first baseman, will be leading off with the Dodgers.
- 28:17This left-handed batter with a 245 average has four home runs and 31 runs driven in.
- 28:23Juan Morichal starts his motion, kicks, and throws. Moon takes, that's low.
- 28:28One ball and no strikes. Upshadowed third base with the left-hand hitter up there is Jim Davenport, the right side of the infield deep.
- 28:34However, Sepeda at first is not playing duty. He's playing about midway back.
- 28:38Overhand curve ball is swung on by Moon and popped up in foul ground off the first base side.
- 28:42Across comes hitter, back goes Sepeda. Sepeda calls for it and Sepeda in foul ground makes the catch.
- 28:47Oh, Moon is out of there. Here's the first out in the last half of inning number two.
- 28:55Here's the big guy for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Six feet seven, 250 pound Frank Howard.
- 29:03And when he steps up there with that batter, it looks like a toothpick in his hand.
- 29:07He stands away from the plate, sort of catty-cornered across it, left foot forward to the plate, and steps into the pitches in order to get more power.
- 29:15Morichal is ready, delivers to him, and the curve stays high. When you pitch high to this guy, it's way upstairs.
- 29:21One ball and no strikes. Count on Frank Howard. One out, the base is empty, bottom of the second inning, no score.
- 29:27Morichal, the right-hander, going against Johnny Padres, the left-hander.
- 29:33Upfield, fans to the left, they're playing deep. Morichal delivers one-all, Howard swings on it, grass-cutter to shortstop.
- 29:39A-going up with it, goes on to first base to Sepeda, and that's all for Howard.
- 29:42He's out from short to first, and that'll bring up Johnny Roseborough.
- 29:47The right-hander, Johnny Roseborough.
- 29:57Catcher Johnny Roseborough hits left-handed and stands deep at the plate and guards it from behind. He guards up on it somewhat.
- 30:03He's batting a.251, he has hit seven home runs, swings on the first pitch and pops it up.
- 30:08Out in very short right field goes Chuck Heller, the second baseman. Under it makes the catch.
- 30:13And that's all for the Dodgers here in the last half of the second inning as they go bang, bang, bang right down in order.
- 30:18Nothing across, and a score at the end of two full innings of play now.
- 30:22It's the Giants nothing, the Dodgers have nothing. Now, here's a message from our sponsors.
- 30:32Let's get together with a glass of schlitz
- 30:37That breaks like the air prom schlitz
- 30:43So let's get together with a glass of schlitz
- 30:49A friendly glass of schlitz
- 30:55A friendly glass of schlitz
- 31:01A friendly glass of schlitz
- 31:07A friendly glass of schlitz
- 31:13A friendly glass of schlitz
- 31:19That breaks like the air
- 31:49We move along now into the top half of inning number three.
- 32:08Jose Pagan, shortstop up for his first time, tries to bump the first pitch and fouls it away to the right.
- 32:13Four strike one. Pagan, a 256 hitter and a right-handed batsman has hit seven home runs this year, 57 runs driven in for San Francisco.
- 32:23We have all the earmarks of a tight ball game in which runs may possibly be as scarce as hen's teeth this afternoon.
- 32:30They'll be playing this one right down to the nubbin.
- 32:33Johnny Pydriss, the left-hander, doing the pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rears back, delivers a one to the place, swung on and lined in the left field for base hits.
- 32:41Snyder has the ball now and fires it back in to Mari Wills who goes out to make the relay.
- 32:47Jose Pagan is on. Rifle shot the left field. That'll be hit number two of Pydriss.
- 32:52Both hits have been to left field. Harvey Keene opened the ball game in the first inning by blasting one into left field on the line shot and Pagan has just duplicated that.
- 33:01Now here is one more shot. This fellow is not a bad hitting pitcher.
- 33:07Very businesslike up at the plate. He's had 20 base hits in 87 times up, a percentage standing of 230.
- 33:13He's hit no home runs, however, but he does have 10 runs driven in for the ball club.
- 33:19Juan Marichal, the right-hand hitter, stands about midway in batter's box all the way around.
- 33:23Pydriss checks him. They're expecting the bunt. The throw to first base. That's just to keep Pagan close. He wasn't going much of anywhere.
- 33:32Tommy Davis is shallow at third. He's already creeping in. Down comes the pitch there as he attempted, but it's popped foul on the first base side.
- 33:38Wally Mone almost had a chance for it, but had overran the ball and it drops untouched for a strike.
- 33:46So the count is no balls, one strike on Juan Marichal.
- 33:52He, of course, is hitting number nine in the San Francisco order.
- 33:56He'll be followed by the leadoffer Harvey Keene.
- 34:04Johnny Pydriss comes set now. Let's see what Marichal is going to do on this pitch.
- 34:08He squares off, does bunt this one back toward the mound. Johnny Pydriss plays it. He goes back to second base and throws the ball away.
- 34:14Getting up and moving on into third base is Pagan.
- 34:23So it was the choice of Johnny Pydriss to fire that ball back to second base to Mari Wills in an attempt to get Pagan moving down to second base.
- 34:33And Johnny threw it away for an error. Now both errors in this ballgame have been charged to the pitchers.
- 34:40Marichal has won. Pydriss has won.
- 34:45Marichal becomes a baserunner at first base on the fielder's choice. Pagan moving all the way around to third base on Johnny Pydriss throwing error.
- 35:01Pagan at third base now.
- 35:06Marichal at first. Here's Harvey Keene. He's had one base hit today, a single to left field.
- 35:11Pydriss delivers to him, puts it across the outside corner knee-high for the strike.
- 35:18This could or could not be the turning point in this ballgame. Marichal at first, Pagan at third.
- 35:24In comes the pitch to Keene. A soft curve is lined in the left field from the right side.
- 35:28Pagan comes in easily to score. Marichal goes to second to hold on. Snyder up for the ball, throws in to Mari Wills.
- 35:35Well, the nothing-nothingness has been broken. Give Harvey Keene the run driven in, his 68th of the year. That's it, number three, run number one given up now by Pydriss.
- 35:45Marichal is on at second base, and Chuck Heller, the Giants' second baseman, is coming up to bat.
- 35:57Prior to this ballgame today, the determination that you could read on the faces of the ballplayers very readily be seen.
- 36:07And the fans here this afternoon have been surprisingly quiet. Everyone's sitting around in anticipation, and well they might.
- 36:17Pydriss is ready now, looks back at second, then delivers the plate. There's the attempted bunt missed, and the throw by Rothero back to try to pick Marichal off at second base.
- 36:26It's thrown high, and Marichal comes on over to third base with a Willie Davis fan back into the plate to make sure he doesn't try to come around and score.
- 36:37So Roseboro will be charged with an error, allowing Marichal, whom he had picked off. Marichal was moving. His throw allows Marichal to come over to third base.
- 36:52Harvey Keene played it close. He stayed right at first. He didn't move.
- 36:58So the Dodgers now have two errors. Runners at first and third. The pitch is swung on. There's a fly ball hit into left field. Duke Snyder coming in for it.
- 37:07The tag up at third. Marichal will not try. Snyder throws in the cutoff play, and they have the runner to win first and second. And the horsey, a throw by Garriam hits the runner in the back. Marichal scores. The throw to the plate is not in foul.
- 37:31The runner sends a fly ball to Duke Snyder, and Marichal Bluth coming in. He wasn't going to bother. He's trying to duck back into third base.
- 37:40The cutoff play was made in third base when Tommy Davis, and he threw up to Gilliam as they had Keene in a horsey between first and second.
- 37:48And then Gilliam, grabbing the ball, throwing it back to first base to moon the color there, hit Gilliam in the back. Or hit Keene in the back. And Keene got back safely to first base. And on the run down then Marichal came on in to score.
- 38:15We'll check up on the official score and see how he's going to score this one. Second run is in here in the third inning. The pitch is swung on and hit up the middle into center field. By Alou, four base hit. Here comes a throw into third base and it gets away from Tommy Davis backing up his paddress. And runners wind up in second and third.
- 38:38So Alou singles up the middle. Harvey Keene moves around to third base. On the throw in, Phillip Alou moves down to second. Water Alston comes off the bench charging. That'll be hit number four given up by paddress.
- 38:57We're still waiting for the official score's verdict as to whether an error or an error will be charged to Gilliam on the throw to first base.
- 39:11Right now the totals read on the board. The Giants three runs. Correction two runs. Four hits and one error. And for the Dodgers no runs, one hit and two errors. We do know that one error has been charged to paddress, one to Roseborough on the overthrow of second base.
- 39:30And we'll see now if they're going to charge another error. As soon as the information comes over, we'll give it to you.
- 39:44Right now, rest assured it is two to nothing in favor of the San Francisco Giants on four base hits. An error is being charged. An error is being charged to Jim Gilliam as we had expected. So the run Marshall scores on that error.
- 40:02And so Harvey Keene was allowed his life at first base on that error. So that will be the third error in the ball game for the Dodgers. Up at the plate Willie Mays and he's being intentionally walked. Intentionally fast. So that'll load him up.
- 40:19Willie Mays at first base on the intentional base on balls. That'll bring on Orlando Cepeda, the first baseman. Philip Palu is on at second base. Harvey Keene is on at third base. So the bases are loaded with only one out here in the top of third inning.
- 40:37Two runs have come scampering across the plate on three base hits. There have been two errors in the inning for the Los Angeles Dodgers. One charged to Roseborough and one charged to Jim Gilliam.
- 40:51Pardress with his back to the wall now starts his motion. Delivers to Cepeda and the pitch is swung on and fouled away. Right up the third base side. Down in the bullpen for the Los Angeles Dodgers, which is oh we're going to have some activity.
- 41:07Probably will be Eddie Roebuck if he starts actually to throw.
- 41:13Orlando Cepeda 0-1 in this ball game. He popped up to second base in the second inning. Game time he was hitting a 3-0-6. The bases are loaded. Harvey Keene at third. Philip Palu at second. Mays is on at first having been intentionally fast.
- 41:26Of course the LA Dodgers were hoping for the opportunity of a double play.
- 41:33Pardress is ready now. Comes set. Delivers the pitch is swung on and hit down to Gilliam. He goes to second to Wills for one hop to throw in the first. Double play.
- 41:47Orlando Cepeda, who has been the big wheel with the bat against these Los Angeles Dodgers all year long and particularly here in this stadium, has just hit in with a double play from Gilliam to Wills and on the moon at first base.
- 41:59Erasing Willie Mays on the front end of the double play. Two men were left on. Two runs on three base hits. Two errors, two left. And the score at the end of two and one half innings of play. It is the Giants two and the LA Dodgers have nothing.
- 42:13The Giants picking up two runs here in the top of the third to go out in front two to nothing as the Dodgers committed three big errors in the third inning so they held their backs to the wall as they come to bat here in the bottom of the third inning.
- 42:26Willie Davis, the center fielder, will lead off and here's Al.
- 42:30All right George, here is Willie Davis with his 286 batting average, 21 home runs and 85 runs driven in. He hits left handed. Swings on the first pitch by Marishon and doesn't get it.
- 42:50Davis standing back in now. Padres will follow. No one cracking up in the bullpen for the Dodgers.
- 42:57Marshall delivers. Soft curve ball hit off the end of the bat down to third base. Stabbing Ford up with it. Throws on the first base to Sepeda and that's all for Willie Davis.
- 43:06One up, one out. Last half of the third inning. Ball game that has the Giants leading. Two to nothing.
- 43:17Johnny Padres coming up the bat.
- 43:23Johnny hitting left handed batting at 163. He has hit one home run this year and has five runs driven in.
- 43:32He's had 14 base hits for 86 times up. Heading left handed, he backs off with a fastball and it's ripped in there for the strike.
- 43:39No ball one strike count. Pitch to the base one run hit down across the car for the second.
- 43:48Hiller gobbles to the left out of the dirt. Throws on to Sepeda at first base and Padres is down.
- 43:53Two up, two down in the bottom of the third inning. That coming up now will be Wills.
- 43:59Maury Wills. Maury Wills came up in the top half as a top batter in the last half of the first inning.
- 44:13Laid off man smashed one back off the bare hand of pitcher Juan Marshall. Got first base on the base hit.
- 44:20Marshall fielding the ball through Wild at first base allowing Wills to go to second but that's all the part of Wills' caps.
- 44:26Gilliam popped up, Snyder didn't so did Tommy Davis. Marshall delivers. Wills takes the pitch high.
- 44:32One ball and no strikes. Last half of inning number three.
- 44:39Two outs, the base is empty. The Giants lead it 2-0. Marshall delivers the fastball. Ripped up the middle, hit the center field for the big hit.
- 44:49Willie May is firing the ball back in and Wills is on with the second base hit given up by Marshall.
- 44:58Jim Gilliam who committed one of the three errors in the top half of the third inning is coming up to the plate now.
- 45:03The three errors in the third inning in case you keep the score with us were charged to Gilliam, to Roseboro and to pitcher Padres.
- 45:13We held up on our call and here on Gilliam until the official scorer had given us his 45th.
- 45:22Now Jim Gilliam. He pops up to second baseman Hiller back in the first inning his first time up. He's a switch hitter and batting left handed.
- 45:33Marshall Texas runner at first delivers the plate. The pitch is taken by Gilliam a little high. Ball one. One ball and no strikes.
- 45:44Two to nothing. That's how the Giants are leading it here in this third and final game in the playoff.
- 45:50Marshall's pitch is high as well. There's a throw down and he's going for his 100th.
- 46:07Murray Wills on the late steal is actually what it amounted to. Set sail way after the pitch was made and was able to get there for his 100th in second stolen base. He's on his second and the count for the plate to Gilliam is two balls and no strikes.
- 46:25Marshall is ready now. Texas runner at second delivers the plate. Gilliam takes. That's ball three.
- 46:41Murray Wills playing it rather close to the vest now. Takes it shortly to second base. Marshall delivers for you. In there for the strike.
- 46:49Another count on Jim Gilliam now. Three balls and one strike. There are two outs here in the bottom of the third inning. The Dodgers trying to make a move here. They're behind with two runs.
- 46:58The Giants have two runs and four hits. The Dodgers no runs on two hits. The Dodgers have committed three errors so far and the Giants have committed one.
- 47:09Marshall travel of deliver. Now he's up on it. Comes down. Pitches the plate to Gilliam and swung on. It's a line down in the left field corner. That's very trouble. It's foul.
- 47:20Five or six feet. Jim Gilliam going to the opposite field. It's a foul ball down the left field line. His count now will be three balls and two strikes.
- 47:43Now Marshall is ready again. Gilliam pumping that back and forth. Will second with two outs. Marshall rears back delivers. Pitches swung on by Gilliam.
- 47:55Comes down in the right field. Billy Ballou should have no trouble with this one at all. He's got it. That's the entire society. Gilliam flies to the right field. That's it.
- 48:04No runs, one hit. One stolen base. No errors, one man left on. Score at the end of three innings of play. The Giants two and the Dodgers have nothing. Now here's a message from our sponsor.
- 48:34The Giants are six.
- 48:36Real Gusto in a great night's dream. Get that Real Gusto homing slip has got the perfect creamy white out to the belly. Nice stop so let's get together with the Giants at six. Real Gusto in a great night's dream.
- 49:04The beer that made Milwaukee famous simply because it tastes so good. The Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Milwaukee and other cities.
- 49:13Now here's a report on the space flight of Commander Sherrod.
- 49:20Space officials at Cape Canaveral have given astronaut Walter Sherrod instructions for his retro rocket fire which will bring him out of orbit and back to Earth. He is now set to fire his retro rockets at 2 0 6 Pacific Daylight time or in less than 15 minutes.
- 49:35NBC radio will have a news special tonight on the space flight over most of these stations. Ray Cullen, NBC News Los Angeles.
- 49:45Up at the plate here in the fourth inning at Bailey and he swings on the second pitch and hits a foul off his own foot.
- 49:53One ball and one strike is a count on Bailey, the first man up here for the Giants in the top half of the fourth inning. They're leading in the ball game two to nothing. The Giants two runs on four hits.
- 50:03And one error.
- 50:05In three innings of play they have stranded three and for the LA Dodgers no runs to its three errors. Audress delivers the pitch is swung on, a line shot to second, Gilliams got it.
- 50:16There's the first foul.
- 50:19Oh Bailey, left hand hitting catcher is 0 for 2 this afternoon now. That brings on Jim Davenport, right hand hitting third baseman.
- 50:27Davenport, 2 97 at game time has gone 0 for 1. He retired to side in the second inning with a fly ball to center field to Willie Davis.
- 50:36Here's Jim digging in. He's hit 14 home runs this year, 57 runs driven in.
- 50:39Crouches over, swings on the first pitch, hits a hot up foul off the first base side. Moon to the stands, might have room, he does have room and makes a count.
- 50:51Well three pitch balls, there are two men out here in the top half of the fourth inning in a ball game that apparently is going to be moving along pretty rapidly.
- 50:58Yesterday's ball game setting a record for play, four hours and 18 minutes.
- 51:05Boy that was really something.
- 51:088 to 7 a final score and that brought the Dodgers back on an even footing with the Giants. Each side now has won one ball game in this three day three game playoff.
- 51:18Here is Jose Pagan, he's single to left field in the third and scored a run. Takes a curve for a strike.
- 51:24No balls and one strike now, the count on Jose Pagan hitting number 8 and the Giant order.
- 51:31Two down and the base is empty.
- 51:33The pitch, a slow curve is a little low. One ball and one strike.
- 51:43Should Pagan get on, we'll see one more shot again.
- 51:49Audress delivers one and one. Pagan attempting to bunt, suddenly realizes the pitch is low and checks up, takes the pitch low, four ball two.
- 52:00So the count is two and one now on Jose Pagan.
- 52:06Right hand hitter, feet widespread apart.
- 52:10That gives a lot of space for a little guy. Swings on the pitch and there's a line fell in the left field for a face hit.
- 52:15Snyder backs up and plays it off his chest. Throw comes in to Mari Wells and Pagan is on.
- 52:20That gives him two for two. Both of them spiked in the left for singles.
- 52:24That'll be hit number five given up by Padres. One more show coming up there.
- 52:30Here's the runner in the third inning on a few of his choice and that has charmed life as he moved around on a single.
- 52:36Throwing error by Roseboro and then an error on a play on a horsey.
- 52:40A run down at first base.
- 52:42Glenn Gilliam threw the ball into Harvey Keene's back and allowed Marshall to score from third.
- 52:49So here's Marshall now hitting right handed.
- 52:53All for one hit this afternoon. Padres comes to him with a curve ball and it's lined into an unveiled for a face hit.
- 52:59Moving down to second is Pagan and he'll hold on there. That'll be hit number six given up by Padres.
- 53:06Now we might have some activity down in the Dodger and Wolf end. We'll keep an eye on it.
- 53:17Wouldn't be a bit surprised that if we do have any action down there it will be Eddie Roebuck.
- 53:23He's the mainstay in their Wolf end.
- 53:27Coming up to bat now is Harvey Keene. He's been up twice and twice he has singled the left field.
- 53:33So he owns two of the six hits of Padres or one third of the crop.
- 53:39Padres works to him with a fast ball and that's inside right off the chest.
- 53:43One ball and no strikes. Two outs, two on. Top of the fourth inning the Giants leading it over the Dodgers, two to nothing.
- 53:49They picked up two runs on three base hits, three Dodger errors in the third inning and they left two men home.
- 53:56Pagan leads it second. The pitch to the plate, Keene is over right at the knees for the strike.
- 54:06Yesterday afternoon here at Dodger Town we had a paid attendance of 25,321.
- 54:13He'll be in that neighborhood again today I believe. Perhaps a few more.
- 54:19Now the pitch to Harvey Keene. Fast ball and he pokes it back foul and to the crowd, back of Matting.
- 54:26One ball, two strike count.
- 54:41Keene to the right hand hitter. Slightly closed stance, almost straight away to the pitcher.
- 54:51Down comes the pitch to him and it's swung on and hit back foul to the screen again and the count rides along at one ball and two strikes.
- 54:58Here in the top half of the fourth inning Bailey lined out to Gilliam.
- 55:04Davenport fouled out to first baseman Wally Moon and then Jose Pagan got his second base hit.
- 55:11As he lined into left field for a single, Marshall looped one into left for a single, moving Pagan down to second base.
- 55:16So that's the scene here right now in the top half of the fourth inning.
- 55:19Pagan the runner at second, Marshall at first. Harvey Keene out there with a count of one ball and two strikes.
- 55:24Two to nothing to score in favor of the Giants over the Dodgers.
- 55:27Johnny Pundress, left hander comes set now, checks his runner, delivers the plate, pitch is swung on and popped up.
- 55:34In foul ground goes Rose Pearl, the catcher. He should have this.
- 55:38Under it makes it back.
- 55:39That's the time to decide here in the top half of the number four.
- 55:44A threat by the Giants but no runs on the two hits. Two men were left on and there were no errors in the inning.
- 55:50A score at the end of three and a half an easy play remains the Giants two and the Dodgers have nothing.
- 55:54Now here's a message from our sponsor.

- 56:58at your Studebaker dealers. Now we move along into the last half of the fourth
- 57:04inning. It'll be Snyder, Davis, and Moon coming up in that order to face Juan
- 57:07Marischal who is leading in the ball game. Two to nothing. For the Giants, two runs
- 57:12on six hits, one error, and they have stranded five so far and going to battle
- 57:15their four times. For the Dodgers, no runs, two hits. They have committed three
- 57:19errors all popping up in the third inning and they have stranded two.
- 57:26Now we move into the last half of the fourth inning. Here is Duke Snyder who popped up an eye to Jim Davenport. His first time up came in the first inning. Snyder batting number three in the Dodger order.
- 57:38Marischal grinds that ball around the palms of his hands as Jim Davenport comes up shallow at third base. The right side of the infield lays back and the outfield straight away and playing deep for the Duke.
- 57:50Marischal delivers. The pitch is taken high and outside. Count on Snyder as ball one. The coaches, for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Greg Malivi at first base and down at third, Leo DeRosier.
- 58:03Down comes the pitch. Swung on, a bounding ball is hit foul off the first base side. Cepeda over to grab it. The umpire down there for the calls at first base in this afternoon's ball game is Augie Donatelli.
- 58:16Jaco Conlon is working at second base and working down behind third is Al Barlich. Barlich was the bow and strike umpire in yesterday's affair.
- 58:26August is working the play today. Overhand pitch ball on by Snyder. It's a basic right field for the Dukes and it's about to be missed by Alou, therefore Snyder on his way to second base and he's in there standing up.
- 58:38A two-base hit.
- 58:40Duke Snyder ramming a line shot in the right field and Philippe Lou came up to it to take it on the skip and it bounced off to his left and by him, going to the fence and Snyder winds up at second with a two-bagger.
- 59:05That'll be the third hit given up by Meyerschall as the Dodgers are trying to answer back here and the ball is at the fourth inning. And here's Pony Davis. He's all for one. Has popped the shortstop. Meyerschall delivers to him way outside and low. One ball, no strikes.
- 59:20Duke Snyder, bad knee and all, is taking his lead at second base. Meyerschall comes back, looks down at Tommy Davis, delivers to him, curve is low, maybe down, he'll block it.
- 59:42Two balls, no strikes. Tommy Davis who leads the National League percentage-wise at 3.44 and leads the league and runs batted in with 151 and now pick up his 152nd should he get a hold of this one.
- 59:58Meyerschall checks that runner Snyder at second base. Comes set, rears back to delivers, the pitch is one on Mason Lefebvre. Snyder moves down to third and that's where he'll hold. The throw comes in and is cut off by the shortstop McGahn.
- 1:00:13The runners have first and third now and time is called by the San Francisco Giants with Ellsark the manager coming off the bench. Armie King was up quickly with that ball in left field and fired it in to hold Duke Snyder.
- 1:00:30And Leo Drosha the coach came running down the line with the Duke to hold him up. No, the tying runs are on here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Boy, this could turn out to be a harem scram affair here this afternoon again.
- 1:00:45One of the old pros coming up now for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Wally Moon. Here's a serious minded fella. Duke Snyder on at third. Tommy Davis is on at first base.
- 1:01:07The Dodgers are in back open for the double play. They'll give up the run to get to. Meyerschall delivers. Moon takes a hit and the pitch is low. He takes ball one.
- 1:01:17One ball and no strikes. The outfield for Wally Moon, just about straight away. If there is a hole in the outfield it's in right center. Meyerschall checks the runner for third base, Duke Snyder.
- 1:01:29He comes in with a pitch and swung on and flies a flat ball into right field down along the line. And Lewis Underwood might score Snyder. The throw comes in and Snyder's got a hole.
- 1:01:42Cutoff play made by Cepeda. So the runners hold it first and third. They weren't taking any chances. Wally Moon flies to right field to Billy Ballou. That's a pretty good arm.
- 1:01:52Don't want to wait here in the last half of the fourth inning and big Frank Howard comes riding up there. This fella has broken up a lot of ball games with the long ball this year.
- 1:02:03He has hit 31 home runs for the MA Dodgers. Has 119 runs driven in. He's just in the lead. RBI. Snyder at third. Tommy Davis is on at first base. Bottom of the fourth inning. Two-nothing Giants.
- 1:02:19Meyerschall delivers the curve. It's swung on by Howard. And he just foul-dips it. That's strike one. Actually I believe the big fella tried to check up on his swing.
- 1:02:29As he takes a bigger cut of the ball in that one. No balls, one strike to count on Frank Howard. Holds that back way down below the line.
- 1:02:39There's a hole in the infield too and that's right up the middle. The guy is in the hole at shortstop. Close to third. The pitch on a check swing is taken low on outside.
- 1:02:50The count is one ball and one strike on Frank Howard. One out. Duke Snyder at third. Tommy Davis is on at first base. Bottom of the fourth.
- 1:02:58And the Giants are leading it two-to-nothing on six base hits. The Dodgers have picked up four off Meyerschall.
- 1:03:06The right-hander is set now. Checked both stations at first and third. Delivers. Howard takes low. Two balls and one strike.
- 1:03:19I hardly think I need to tell you that the left fielder, or the Giants' Harvey Kean, is playing deep. He's almost back on the restraining crack.
- 1:03:28Now Willie Mays playing deep has moved over into left center field. There is a big hole in the outfield in right center right now.
- 1:03:34Here's the 2-1 pitch to Frank Howard. Meyerschall cuts it loose. An overhand curve is outside. All three.
- 1:03:54The fans are really buzzing in the stands here this afternoon. Here in the highest half of the fourth inning. Snyder's in the third. Tommy Davis still in the first. One out. Frank Howard with a count of three and one. Meyerschall in trouble. Delivers.
- 1:04:05Howard swings and beats it down into the ground foul. Strike two. Three balls and two strikes.
- 1:04:11Elvin Dark up on the top of the steps of the dugout. Actually kneeling on the steps of the dugout.
- 1:04:18Must be a lot of pressure both on Dark's shoulders and Smokey Alston's shoulders. Everything riding in the balance here today in this California sunlight.
- 1:04:26The wind blowing now slightly out toward right center field and there's not much of it. Meyerschall in trouble. Dumb set. Checks his runners.
- 1:04:34The 3-2 pitch to Howard. The runners hold. The pitch is swung on. Hit down shortstop. However on the cutoff it is the third base from Diamond Point. Second ball counted. The right comes in to score the goal on the first and second base.
- 1:04:48Tommy Davis went in to second base and literally barreled over second base from Hiller. So it's a 2-1 ball game now. Snyder scores on the fourth out of the runner at second base. Tommy Davis.
- 1:05:04He's going with us. It goes 5-4 on the fourth out at second base and Howard is the runner at first. So it's a 2-1 ball game now as coming up to a back will be Roseboro. However I believe Hiller has been spiked on the play as Baldwin has been called out of the dugout.
- 1:05:21He's coming out looking over the left foot or ankle of Chuck Hiller. Tommy Davis went barreling in there to break up that double play and he was successful in doing so. Now that's one of the things a baserunner tries to do on plays of this type.
- 1:05:38At least I've seen you do that George Kelman. I expect that's part of the trade huh?
- 1:05:42It is Al. Tommy Davis had but one choice. That was to barrel into the second baseman as hard as he could and break up the double play and allow Duke Snyder to score from third base. And that's exactly what he did. He went hard into Hiller.
- 1:05:55And it was an amazing play for Hiller to even get the ball away because he was hit just as he caught the ball but somehow he turned and flipped it back to the first baseman Cepeda. And it was a close play at first but Howard beat it.
- 1:06:08It looks like he might have nicked him with a spike down on the left foot. The trainer is out right now. He's applying first aid to Hiller's foot. I don't believe it's serious. I don't believe he's coming out of the lineup at all because darned that the trainer both are standing there talking to him as the trainer applies first aid.
- 1:06:28But this is just part of the trade and second basemens in both leagues know that these runners are coming down there and they're coming in hard. There's no animosity for something like this unless of course occasionally a fielder feels like that the runner might have cut him intentionally but in this case it was just an out and out attempt by Tommy Davis to take Hiller out of the play. It's going to be alright.
- 1:06:52The trainer applying a little first aid and Chuck is going back to his second base position. Oh it's a 2 to 1 ball game. The Dodgers have picked up one. They still have a runner at first base with two outs here downhill.
- 1:07:04All right George. Johnny Roseboro who fucked up in the second inning. The second baser retired beside is up there. The tying run for the Dodgers on at first base and Howard. He steps off immediately draws a throw from the mound for Marshall but he's back in time. Johnny Roseboro who at game time was fighting the 2-51 with seven home runs.
- 1:07:2255 runs driven in left handed better Bailey holds the target. Marshall checks the runner at first base delivers the plate. Roseboro takes over on the outside corner knee high.
- 1:07:35Last half of the fourth inning. 2 to 1 the score in favor of the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:07:44Juan Marshall is the pitcher for San Francisco. Checks his runner Howard at first delivers the plate. Roseboro swings it pops it up it's going to come up almost to us.
- 1:07:57I thought for a minute there George you were going to be able to field one off the field. I quit trying to catch foul balls or line drives Al. I'm out of that business now. I dodged them at third base when they were getting easier than that. Come on now.
- 1:08:12See you play a lot of very fine third base George you're not kidding me. Now the 0-2 delivery to the plate to Roseboro. Marshall gets a sign again from Bailey. Howard takes that big stride off first base.
- 1:08:24Two down here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Marshall delivers a soft curve it's way outside. Actually he sort of was just like almost like a shot putter.
- 1:08:36Flipping that ball up to the plate that time. One ball two strike count on Roseboro.
- 1:08:44Now Marshall is ready. Howard strides away from first again taking his lead. Marshall delivers a medium speed curve. It's over for call strike three and that's all there is to the last half of inning number four.
- 1:08:54That will be the first strikeout for Marshall. Here in the fourth inning. One run for the Dodgers on two hits. No errors one man left on.
- 1:09:01The score at the end of four. Giants two the Dodgers have one. Now here is a commercial message.

- 1:15:42One ball, no strike count on Willie Davis.
- 1:15:45He was hitting 286 at game time.
- 1:15:48The pitch is swung on and drilled deep into right field.
- 1:15:51It's a well hit ball, a little back on the track.

- 1:16:37That's ball one.
- 1:16:39Pydrus started off the day batting at 163 with one home run to which credit and five runs driven in.
- 1:16:46He rolled out to second base.
- 1:16:47His only time up.
- 1:16:48Swings on his pitch and doesn't get it.
- 1:16:50Count is one ball and one strike on John Pydrus.
- 1:16:53He'll be followed by Mari Wills, the lead off man for the LA Dodgers.
- 1:16:59Two runs on six hits for the Giants.
- 1:17:01One run on four hits for the Dodgers.
- 1:17:04Marshall delivers.
- 1:17:05The pitch is over on the inside corner for a called strike.
- 1:17:09Johnny Pydrus turns around.
- 1:17:10He has something to say to Cleat Empire and Dusty Vargas.
- 1:17:13One ball, two strike count on Johnny.
- 1:17:19Low starting pitchers, Marshall and Pydrus still around.
- 1:17:22Quite a ball game going here.
- 1:17:23Marshall delivers a soft curve and it's beaten down into the ground foul.
- 1:17:27The count on Johnny Pydrus now is one ball, two strikes.
- 1:17:32Ed Bailey is working the plate this afternoon for San Francisco.
- 1:17:35Tom Haller was spiked yesterday and stitches had to be taken in his right arm.
- 1:17:41He's on the bench, however, and Ken Bue should Alvin Dark need him.
- 1:17:46Ed Bailey is behind the plate.
- 1:17:48The count is one ball and two strikes on Pydrus.
- 1:17:50Here is Marshall coming in with a curve ball and it's one on a miss for strike three.
- 1:17:54There's a second out here in the bottom of inning number five.
- 1:17:57That will be the second strike out for Marshall to run his total for the year to 151.
- 1:18:03Maury Wills gets the round of applause and he comes up as the leadoff man in the ball game.
- 1:18:07He has been up twice and twice he has been a baserunner.
- 1:18:10He smashed the single back off the bare hand of Marshall in the first inning,
- 1:18:13single up the middle in the third and sold his 102nd base in the third inning.
- 1:18:20He's got no farther than second.
- 1:18:24Now the pitch to Maury Wills.
- 1:18:26He's batting left-handed.
- 1:18:28It's over but low and the count on Wills is one ball and no strikes.
- 1:18:31Maury chokes up someone on the handle of the bat.
- 1:18:36Jen Gilliam coming up to the plate now.
- 1:18:40Well off Marishaw that will be hit number five.
- 1:18:43The Giants so far have out hit the Dodgers by one.
- 1:18:45They have six base hits.
- 1:18:47They have out scored them by one. They have two runs.
- 1:18:50And the Dodgers with the tying run now and the first of Maury Wills at first base.
- 1:18:54With two outs finds Gilliam coming up to the plate.
- 1:18:56A switch hitter going left-handed. He's over two.
- 1:18:58Throw to first. That keeps Maury Wills close.
- 1:19:04Devin Ford up shot with third base.
- 1:19:07A turn and throw again to first base to Sephada.
- 1:19:09That ball was almost thrown away.
- 1:19:11That lunge out to his right around Maury Wills to make the stop.
- 1:19:19Mareshaw is all set now to pitch to Jen Gilliam.
- 1:19:21Two outs, one on, bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:19:23Tying run on for the Dodgers here in the bottom of inning number five.
- 1:19:26It's a two-to-one ball game in favor of the Giants.
- 1:19:28Throw to first base to keep Wills close.
- 1:19:32Jen Gilliam backs off and takes a look around to see if there's a sign of any kind on.
- 1:19:37Leo DeRosier is pointing to the man.
- 1:19:39He thinks that DeMarshaw is committing a box.
- 1:19:43Now the pitch to the plate.
- 1:19:45Gilliam slugs at it and hits a fly ball into center field.
- 1:19:47This should be an easy chance for Mays.
- 1:19:49He's off who was left under it.
- 1:19:50He's got it and after ties the side.
- 1:19:52So here in the fifth inning, no runs.
- 1:19:54One hit, one man left on, and there were no errors.
- 1:19:56The score at the end of five innings of play, the Giants two and the Dodgers have one.
- 1:20:00And now here's another report on the space flight of Commander Chirong.
- 1:20:04And is now descending by parachute.

- 1:22:24how they're going to pitch to this left-handed hitter at Bailey.
- 1:22:28A very tight and close ball game.
- 1:22:30The Giants two and the Dodgers one.
- 1:22:32The Giants have two runs on seven hits now and the Dodgers one run on five hits.
- 1:22:36They're in the top half of the sixth inning.
- 1:22:38Cepeda hitting the first pitch in the right field for a single
- 1:22:41as the runner at first taking his lead.
- 1:22:43It goes as the pitch is made and swung on.
- 1:22:45There is a high foul ball off the third base side.
- 1:22:47Tommy Davis to the stands cannot get it.
- 1:22:49And the count will be a strike now on Bailey.
- 1:22:53But Alvin Dark apparently starting to play the hit-and-run game.
- 1:22:56We've gone down to the sixth inning now in this two-to-one ball game.
- 1:23:01Every move now will be vitally important.
- 1:23:07Bailey looks down at Wiley-Lockman, the coach at third base, and he has the signal.
- 1:23:16The round of applause you'll hear is the information up on the information board here,
- 1:23:20the electric information board, that the capsule parachute has been sighted.
- 1:23:23We've already told you that here on NBC.

- 1:23:28There's a throw to first base.
- 1:23:30And Cepeda is back.

- 1:23:57and also the information on Commander Chirag, which, well, that's of world importance.
- 1:24:04Now the one-one delivery.
- 1:24:05Budress cuts it loose, the pitcher swung on, hit back to the middle,
- 1:24:08and Roy Wills locks it down back to second base, but it will cause a base hit.
- 1:24:12He keeps it from going into center field.
- 1:24:16Cepeda gets down to second on that hit up the middle,
- 1:24:20and Bailey has moved across to first base.
- 1:24:24Jim Davenport is coming up now.
- 1:24:26That will be at number eight, given up by Budress.
- 1:24:29Nobody out here, runners at first and second in the top of the sixth inning,
- 1:24:32and Jim Davenport, 0-4-2, moves in to take his third swing at it,
- 1:24:37applied to center field to retire the side in the second inning,
- 1:24:41and in the fourth inning was out number two.
- 1:24:44Ladies and gentlemen, right now here's another report on the space flight of Commander Chirag.
- 1:24:53NBC's Herb Kapelo reports that Commander Chirag's capsule is in the water
- 1:24:58less than a mile from the carrier Kersaj, the primary recovery ship.
- 1:25:02Repeating, NBC reports that Commander Chirag's capsule is in the water
- 1:25:07less than a mile from the Kersaj, the primary recovery ship in the Pacific Ocean.
- 1:25:13Ray Cullen, NBC News, Los Angeles.
- 1:25:16And he's in the water only a mile away.
- 1:25:18That is great news.
- 1:25:19And we'll bring you more of this interesting news just as soon as it breaks.
- 1:25:23At the plate now is Davenport, ready for the first pitch.
- 1:25:28Budress is ready and fires that pitch.
- 1:25:30The punt goes down the third base side, and it's going to stay fair.
- 1:25:33And the faces will be loaded on a punt single down the third base side.
- 1:25:37The infield crossed up on that one.
- 1:25:43So here are the San Francisco Giants right now, trying to break this ballgame wide open.
- 1:25:48The bases are loaded.
- 1:25:50Top half of the sixth inning, nobody out to score two to one in favor of the Giants.
- 1:25:55That will be hit number nine, incidentally, on Pidres.
- 1:26:01Leo DeRosier is called for time as he steps off the bench.
- 1:26:04He's walking out to talk to Pidres.
- 1:26:06And while we have this opportunity, let's pause 30 seconds for station identification.
- 1:26:34Well, we're getting ready now for a new pitcher.
- 1:26:38Eddie Robuck is coming out of the Dodger pen.
- 1:26:41Eddie Robuck, and he inherits something that's pretty tough.
- 1:26:45Anytime a guy has nobody out and the base is loaded, he's coming in to make his first pitch.
- 1:26:50Well, George, I imagine that with each step he's making to the mound now,
- 1:26:54he has two more pounds of pressure on his shoulders.
- 1:26:57Well, he knows all too well what he has to do, Al.
- 1:27:00Tough situation here in a close ballgame with the Giants out in front, two to one.
- 1:27:05But bases are loaded with no one out.
- 1:27:08Sepeda let off this inning with a line single to right field.
- 1:27:11Ed Bailey followed with a smash through the middle.
- 1:27:13Maury Vils made a fine play as he knocked it down, back of the bag at second.
- 1:27:17But he couldn't make a play on anybody.
- 1:27:19Then Jim Davenport dropped a perfect butt down the third baseline.
- 1:27:23Tommy Davis had raced back to the bag.
- 1:27:26And Andres was just not able to get over and make a play on it.
- 1:27:31So Eddie Robuck will come on to relieve the left-hander.
- 1:27:34And Andres has been quite a pitcher here this afternoon.
- 1:27:37He's been here for two days left.
- 1:27:39And he leaves the mound here to hear the tremendous ovation going up in the crowd here in Dodger Stadium.
- 1:27:47Andres along with the coach of the Dodgers, Leo DeRosha, going back to the dugout.
- 1:27:53Eddie Robuck has come out to do the pitching now with the bases loaded.
- 1:27:57And nobody out here in the top half of the sixth inning.
- 1:28:00He'll be cranking a few down to get the field to mound.
- 1:28:03Robuck with a 10-1 record is 1-0 with the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:28:08Robuck appearing in his 64th ball game has pitched 116 innings and has an earned run average of 2.95.
- 1:28:16He has been quite a man in relief for the charges of Smokey Alston.
- 1:28:21And right now he's being called upon to put out a fire that has certainly blown up here in the top half of the sixth inning once.
- 1:28:27It paid a single to right field followed by Bailey's single up the middle knocked down by Maury Wills to keep it from going into center field.
- 1:28:33And there were runners at first and second and then Davenport's one single down the third base side caught the Dodger infield by surprise and the bases are loaded.
- 1:28:42That means that Jose Pagan, who has gotten two base hits in the ball game, both singles rifled into left field,
- 1:28:47but he got them off of the now departed pitcher, Johnny Padres, will be coming up to face Eddie Robuck for the first time and he'll be followed by Juan Marshall.
- 1:28:55Of course the Dodger infield is uptight hoping to get a chance to cut the run down at the plate.
- 1:29:00Robuck in plenty of trouble, takes plenty of time.
- 1:29:04He's a side-wheeling right-hander with the funniest stuff. Delivers the pitcher swung on and hit down to short stops.
- 1:29:08The play comes to the plate to work for 40 out. That's the only play made. The bases remain loaded.
- 1:29:16They weren't going to take a chance on getting any more than the one. They played at the plate and got the man.
- 1:29:21So four side at the plate. Mo's Davenport on down to second base. Bailey on over to third.
- 1:29:27And to have the out, on to Peter at the plate going from the short stop Wills to the catcher Johnny Roseborough.
- 1:29:32One out. Top of the sixth inning. The bases remain loaded and here is Juan Marshall.
- 1:29:41Juan Marshall was a runner in the third on a field of choice and came on around on errors.
- 1:29:48A single and a couple of errors to score a run in the third inning for the Giants.
- 1:29:53He came along in the fourth inning and hit a single to left field.
- 1:29:56Now he's being called upon again with bases loaded.
- 1:30:00Right now ladies and gentlemen here is another report on the space flight of Commander Chirra.
- 1:30:08Commander Walter Chirra's capsule is in the water in the primary Pacific recovery area.
- 1:30:13Voice contact has been made and the astronaut reports he is comfortable.
- 1:30:17Several helicopters are now orbiting over the spacecraft in the Pacific.
- 1:30:21Ray Cullen, NBC News Los Angeles.
- 1:30:25Very good news. Commander Chirra is all right. He's comfortable and well.
- 1:30:30Commander Chirra, there are a few people here this afternoon at Dodger Town are not quite so comfortable.
- 1:30:35The bases are loaded. One out. Top of the sixth inning.
- 1:30:38The batter up to plate is Marshall. Let's see what he's ordered to do.
- 1:30:40The infield part way back. The first pitch is low. Ball one.
- 1:30:44Marshall started to go for it and changed his mind.
- 1:30:46The runner for third base for the San Francisco Giants is Bailey.
- 1:30:49At second is Davenport. Jose Pagan is at first base.
- 1:30:54The score is still 2 to 1.
- 1:30:57As Eddie Robuck has gotten the first out here in the top half of the sixth inning.
- 1:31:00He relieved Johnny Padres who went five innings. First pitching to three men.
- 1:31:06The pitcher swung on. A slow-bounding ball back of second.
- 1:31:08Wills up with it. Nets on second.
- 1:31:10Double play. Robuck is out of it.
- 1:31:35I tell you that's really something. A double play.
- 1:31:37Breaks the back of the San Francisco thread. It's all over in the top of the sixth inning.
- 1:31:41No runs on three hits. Two men were left on.
- 1:31:44And the score at the end of five and a half innings of play remains the Giants 2 and the Dodgers 1.
- 1:31:49Now here is a commercial message.
- 1:31:52Winter Warning. Protect your car's radiator against freeze-up.
- 1:31:56Get Xerox Anti-Breeze.
- 1:31:58For cars left out at night or in unheated garages.
- 1:32:03Don't ask for trouble. Ask for DuPont.
- 1:32:06Xerox Anti-Breeze.
- 1:32:08No other anti-freeze known. No other anti-freeze made.
- 1:32:11Protects your car better than DuPont Xerox.
- 1:32:14Xerox keeps your car safe from freezing all winter long.
- 1:32:17It could mean the difference between a joyride or a tow-ride.
- 1:32:24And the exclusive MR8 rust inhibitor in Xerox stops damaging rust and corrosion before it starts.
- 1:32:30Protects all engine metals including aluminum. So this winter don't risk a tow-ride. Have a joyride with DuPont Xerox.
- 1:32:38For cars left out at night or in unheated garages.
- 1:32:43Don't ask for trouble. Ask for DuPont Xerox Anti-Breeze.
- 1:32:49Now here's another report on the space flight of Commander Chirard.
- 1:32:55Commander Chirard has just reported by radio he wants to be picked up by the ship.
- 1:33:00The rescue operation is continuing. Recovery should be accomplished within 10 minutes.
- 1:33:05Ray Cullen, NBC News, Los Angeles.
- 1:33:09Al Helver back here at the NBC Microbonds along with George Kelly in Los Angeles.
- 1:33:13Duke Snyder up at the plate has just swung on the first pitch and fouled it back into the stands for strike one.
- 1:33:19Last half, opening number six.
- 1:33:21A nip and tuck ball game, two to one with the San Francisco Giants leading it.
- 1:33:26Marischal delivers. Snyder swings. It doesn't get a big curve ball. That's strike two.
- 1:33:39Duke Snyder to be followed by Tommy Davis and then by Wally Moen.
- 1:33:44Eddie Robuck coming on in the top half of the sixth inning. Turned in a tremendous relief job.
- 1:33:50Pitch low on outside as Marshall stumbles and almost throws the ball away.
- 1:33:56Down is one ball, two strikes on the Duke.
- 1:34:00Snyder today has had one base hit, a double to right field in the fourth inning.
- 1:34:04And he has scored the only Dodger runs. He's won for two today.
- 1:34:09Marshall comes to him with a fast ball, right into the field.
- 1:34:12Duke Snyder, the old throw comes through with a base wrap in the left.
- 1:34:21Off Marischal, that will be hit number six.
- 1:34:25Oh, the Dodgers now have the tying run on here in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- 1:34:29And the beautiful call sounds through the stands for the onward charge.
- 1:34:34Tommy Davis will be the batter coming up now for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 1:34:39He has been up twice today.
- 1:34:44He's had one base hit in two times up. He's single behind Snyder in the fourth inning, moving him over to third base.
- 1:34:55Now Marischal is ready. Looks at this right-hand hitter, the leader in the league, delivers to him, Moen outside, ball one.
- 1:35:06While we were getting the report on Commander Sheraw a moment ago, George Kell and I were just talking about the tensions of this ball game
- 1:35:12and what it could mean to ballplayers.
- 1:35:15And we were talking about the double play that got Eddie Roebuck and the Dodgers out of a lot of trouble in the sixth inning.
- 1:35:22And Eddie looked at me and grinned, George looked at me and grinned and said,
- 1:35:25Eddie should feel good about it because that will break most anybody's back.
- 1:35:31Davis standing in at the plate, feet pretty much together, leaning over.
- 1:35:34Marischal already takes his sign from Bailey, looks at first base, delivers the play pitch on the inside, lay on the inside, ball two.
- 1:35:46Time is called while Sepeda comes over and talks to Marischal. They both speak the same language.
- 1:35:57Now Sepeda goes back to first base, Marischal is ready.
- 1:36:01Tommy Davis standing in at the plate with Duke Snyder at first base, nobody out, last half of the sixth inning.
- 1:36:06Time is 4-2, 2-1, the Giants lead the Dodgers.
- 1:36:09What a playoff series this has been.
- 1:36:11Marischal sets, overhands the pitcher curve, and low, ball three.
- 1:36:16Real delivery will be on its way, here it comes, right down the plate, right after he's taken all the way.
- 1:36:38Another count now on Tommy Davis.
- 1:36:41What game time was leading the National League with a percentage of 3-44? He had 26 home runs and led in the RBI department in the league with 151.
- 1:36:51And is he up at the plate now? And is Marischal pitching to him 3-1? Snyder at first, nobody else.
- 1:36:56Here comes a pitch, swing on, and hits to the field.
- 1:36:59Well, his ball hits, can he get it? He cannot, he's out of here.
- 1:37:29I tell you, ladies and gentlemen, this place has gone absolutely first first.
- 1:37:36Tommy Davis has just hit his 27th home run of the year.
- 1:37:41He'll put the Los Angeles Dodgers out in front 3-2.
- 1:37:46With hit number seven, Marischal runs 2-3.
- 1:37:53Everybody's standing, it's a standing ovation for this third baseman from Dodger Town.
- 1:38:00Wally Moon is up there, takes a curve ball over for the strike.
- 1:38:08Tommy Davis, a home run into the left center field stand.
- 1:38:12Pitcher swing on, moves to the field, coming on his team, he's got it for the out.
- 1:38:17Now we'll have Big Frank Howard coming up there.
- 1:38:21He's said many times that these games can change in the twinkling of an eye.
- 1:38:26And I know a man who has seen that happen many times is sitting right over here.
- 1:38:30Do you have a comment, George Gale, about that home run?
- 1:38:33It happened and it happened quick and there was never any doubt about it.
- 1:38:36Tommy Davis slammed it into the left center field seat.
- 1:38:39And as you said, this place went wild, it's mad out here right now.
- 1:38:44Frank Howard up at the plate, the pitch throw in, the big fella checks the swing
- 1:38:47and the pitch throw on outside, ball one.
- 1:38:51Throwing up paper coming out of the stands now.
- 1:38:54This place is really buzzing.
- 1:38:573-2, the Dodgers are leading it.
- 1:38:59Marishaw delivers a curve, Howard after the foul, one ball and one strike.
- 1:39:06Well, we thought at the end of four hours and 18 minutes yesterday that we had lost the consoles.
- 1:39:12They're going again.
- 1:39:17Marishaw, sidearm pitch, it's going on by hard.
- 1:39:19Fox deep to shortstop, up with it is Pergon, throws the first base high.
- 1:39:24Howard is safe at first base.
- 1:39:27The plate is missing the tag.
- 1:39:29On the play, you charge an error to Pergon's throw, the first base.
- 1:39:48So now the Giants have two errors.
- 1:39:51Alvin Dark is out and he's really chinning and jawing with Donatelli, the umpire, first base.
- 1:39:57I'm afraid that'll do him no good.
- 1:39:59That man in blue calls that play down there and that's it.
- 1:40:04Big Frank Howard, runner at first base.
- 1:40:07In his anxiety to get the big fella, Mari Wills, deep in the hole at shortstop and pulled closer to the line than usual,
- 1:40:14had to hurry for the long throw, got the slow bounding ball, made the play,
- 1:40:19but he threw high to subpoena at first base for an error.
- 1:40:27Jose Pergon did the very best he could to get the runner at first base and wasn't quite able to do it.
- 1:40:38One out, one on, Roseborough coming to bat here in the last half of the sixth inning.
- 1:40:44Marishal is set, takes the big runner at first base, delivers the play, Roseborough cuts out at the foul,
- 1:40:49dips it, cut strike one.
- 1:40:56In the last half of the sixth inning, this is how the Dodgers picked up their lead.
- 1:41:00Snyder singled, followed by Tommy Davis, shot into left centerfield, stands to drive in two.
- 1:41:06It's now three to two to the Dodgers.
- 1:41:08Roseborough up there with Howard at first, the pitch low and outside.
- 1:41:14There's going to be some activity now, I think, down in the bullpen for the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:41:18We'll try to pick up that man for you as soon as we can.
- 1:41:21It's back in the runway, shoot off right field, it's pretty hard to see.
- 1:41:26Howard takes his lead at first base, Marishal waits, now delivers to Roseborough.
- 1:41:30He pitches knee-high outside, two balls and one strike.
- 1:41:52Roseborough waiting at the plate now as Marishal, about to pitch the 2-1 or 2-in, comes in with it,
- 1:41:57swing on, there's a high pop-up going out in a very short right field, coming on fast as a loop.
- 1:42:01Can he get it? He can, he's under it and makes the catch.
- 1:42:05Oh, Howard has to hold on there at first base, there's a second out here in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- 1:42:10Howard still at first and Willie Davis coming up to the plate now.
- 1:42:17This one here this afternoon, as yesterday, has been a hammer-and-tongue affair.
- 1:42:23Willie Davis has been up twice, he's rolled out to third and has flied out to right.
- 1:42:27It's all slender left-hand hitter. Game time was batting at 286, he had 21 home runs.
- 1:42:36Outfield fan to right and deep, big hole in the outfield left center.
- 1:42:39Howard takes a couple of strides off first base, the pay-to-holds the corner.
- 1:42:43Marishal is ready, comes set, delivers. The pitch to the plate is low.
- 1:42:51Ball one.
- 1:42:56Willie Davis looks down at Leo DeRose, he's coaching at third base.
- 1:42:59See if there's a sign of any kind on. Big 6'7", Frank Howard, former Ohio State star, moves off at first base.
- 1:43:07Two outs, in comes a pitch, one on, line shot into the bar with the play to first base.
- 1:43:13Why, he went on the ladder to make that one. Oh, he's out of there, Willie Davis.
- 1:43:18However, in the innings, two big runs for the Dodgers on two base hits.
- 1:43:22There was an error and there was a man left on.
- 1:43:24The score at the end of six innings of play now, the Dodgers three and the Giants have two.
- 1:43:29Now, here's this commercial message.
- 1:43:31How are you going to tell them about all five in a minute?
- 1:43:34Well, I can try. All five, all new for 63, all different and all Buick.
- 1:43:40Go boy.
- 1:43:41Hugh Buick special, the happy middleweight champ with aluminum V8 engine or America's first V6, has a happy low price.
- 1:43:47That's one. Hugh Buick Skylark, hardtop or convertible, bucket seats, wall to wall carpeting, a very personal car.
- 1:43:53That's two. Hugh Buick LeSabre, bold, beautiful, full size Buick, yet priced so close to the low price names,
- 1:43:59has advanced thrust engineering, turbine drive, famous Wildcat engine, two to go.
- 1:44:03Hugh Buick Wildcat, the family size sports car with fabric right on the hardtop, attack commuter, sports car console.
- 1:44:09One more. Right, and that's one of the finest luxury cars in America, new Buick Electra 225.
- 1:44:16Hold it. You forgot the Riviera, man. The Riviera by Buick speaks for itself.
- 1:44:22See them all. See the new 63 Buicks. October 4th at your quality Buick dealers.
- 1:44:31Now everybody, here's another report on the spaceflight of Commander Sherrard.
- 1:44:37A long boat from the carrier Kersage has moved within 50 yards of Commander Sherrard's space capsule near Midway Island in the Pacific.
- 1:44:45Recovery should be completed in a matter of moments. Sherrard appears to be safe and well.
- 1:44:51Ray Cullen, NBC News, Los Angeles.
- 1:44:55And a nice and cheers, Commander Sherrard. It's been good news all the way.
- 1:45:00In the south half of the seventh inning, Harvey Keene stepping up to the plate now to face Eddie Robock.
- 1:45:04This is his ballgame, to win it or lose it. The pitch is outside to Harvey Keene.
- 1:45:10It's ball one. Eddie Robock with a 10-1 record on the air.
- 1:45:151-0 with the San Francisco Giants. Came on a relief of Padres, the starting pitcher.
- 1:45:20Harvey Keene bluffs the bunt on his pitch and takes it in there for the strike. And the count is 1-1 on him.
- 1:45:27There have been some changes made for the Dodgers. Larry Burright has gone to second base.
- 1:45:32Jim Gilliam has moved over to third base. Tommy Davis has moved to left field. And Duke Snyder has come out of the ballgame.
- 1:45:37The pitch is swung on, hit the center field. Up to it comes Davis, makes the grab for the first foul.
- 1:45:46Chuck Hiller will be the batter now. Again, let us give you the changes for the Dodgers defensively.
- 1:45:52Jim Gilliam has gone to third base. Tommy Davis, who opened at third base, has gone to the outfield, that is to left field.
- 1:46:02And Duke Snyder is out of the ballgame. And Larry Burright is at second base. Those three changes made.
- 1:46:11Eddie Robock, working with Johnny Roseborough, will pitch now to Chuck Hiller.
- 1:46:14One out here in the top half of the seventh inning. 3-2 to the score of the Dodgers.
- 1:46:18Robock sidearms the plate. Hiller takes that cross seam that is in there for the strike.
- 1:46:33Hiller, after the next pitch, drills it down the left field side. That is going to be in there for maybe extra bases.
- 1:46:37Over goes Davis and grabs the ball. As you get away from him momentarily, picks up, throws into third base.
- 1:46:42It is a send-off to Bagger for Hiller. So there is the tying run-on for the Giants at second base.
- 1:46:51That will be the first hit off Robock and hit number ten for San Francisco.
- 1:46:55Oh, don't go away. We've got one cook in here that might last quite a while.
- 1:47:03Billy Palu is the batsman. He has had one base hit in three times up. Hit a single up the middle in the third inning.
- 1:47:11He's won for three. Last time out he flied to left. One out. Hiller at second base.
- 1:47:17Outfield fan to left playing deep. Robock sidearm pitch is swung on and hit down to shortstop.
- 1:47:22Mar-Will is up with it, drives the runner to second, throws to first and back.
- 1:47:26And he was out. There is a second out in the inning.
- 1:47:37Well, it's a real clutch situation now for Robock. And Walter Austin knows it, so he's come off the bench and he's out and talking to Robock.
- 1:47:46Willie Mays will be the batter and we have some activity going down in the Dodgers bullpen back of left field.
- 1:47:53Put the glasses on that bullpen and see if we can pick up the guy throwing. I think it's big Stan Williams.
- 1:48:01It is he in the bullpen. Stan Williams in the bullpen. There is someone else throwing but he is out of our vision, out of our range of vision.
- 1:48:08Now we've got a couple of guys cranking up down in the bullpen as Walter Austin talks to Eddie Robock and makes his mind up as to what he wants Eddie Robock to do,
- 1:48:16whether he's going to have Eddie Robock continue or not. This is a pretty tough situation in a ballgame.
- 1:48:21Anytime a manager has to go out and talk to his pitcher. How about that, George?
- 1:48:24Absolutely. He's playing for all the chips here today and of course, Smokey Austin has to make the decisions and make them quick.
- 1:48:32He has his ace reliever going Robock but Eddie is a tired young man. He's put a lot of innings this year and been in every game of this playoff
- 1:48:41and so he's probably just checking with him before he pitches to Willie Mays.
- 1:48:44Well, old rubber arm George is a pretty good competitor. Let's see what he does here with Willie Mays, a real tough guy to play.
- 1:48:50Pitch way inside, ball one. Willie had to get away from that one.
- 1:48:54The situation here in the top half of the seventh inning is with two outs,
- 1:48:58Hiller who doubled down into the left field corner is on his second base representing the possible tying run for the Giants.
- 1:49:03Three to two of the Dodgers lead it. Now they're going to put Willie Mays on and I'm going to monkey around with them.
- 1:49:08That's ball two way on the outside. Ball three will be coming in there in a moment and ball four will put Willie Mays on at first base with an intentional walk.
- 1:49:16And incidentally that will only be the second base on balls the Giants have picked up. This one has been ordered and the first one off Robock.
- 1:49:22That'll bring up Orlando Cepeda.
- 1:49:26Cepeda has hit into a double play, one of the two that broke the backs of the cuts in the third and sixth inning for the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:49:35Two double plays have popped up on the Dodger side of the fence to run their total to 138.
- 1:49:40Now runners at first and second, Orlando Cepeda has had one hit and three at bats.
- 1:49:46He hit the right field back in the sixth inning as the leadoff man and was cut down at the plate one with the bases loaded situation.
- 1:49:52In the sixth with nobody out, Eddie Robock was called on in relief of progress and he got the side out without some scoring.
- 1:49:58Now Robock is ready to pitch to Cepeda.
- 1:50:01Side armor and it's hit down on a big hop to second bird right up with it, doubles over the wheel.
- 1:50:06That's it.
- 1:50:12Another time the Giants trick those for the boards here in the seventh inning, no runs, one hit.
- 1:50:19And they're two men left on so the score at the end of six and a half innings of play remains the Dodgers three that Giants have two.
- 1:50:26That kind of service you deserve is P.S. personal service with an excellent casualty policy P.S.
- 1:50:37And now before we start the action here in the last half of the seventh inning we'll pause for station identification.
- 1:50:47This is the General Electric Station Skid XT eight telling your radio dial W.G.Y.
- 1:51:17In the last half of the seventh inning here at Dodger, Eddie Robock has just fouled out to Cepeda for the first time in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- 1:51:27But there are other important things and here is another report on the space flight of Commander Shirah.
- 1:51:35The aircraft carrier Kearsize is standing by to pick up Commander Walter Shirah's space capsule in mid-Pacific.
- 1:51:42Recovery should now be completed in only a matter of moments and Shirah is safe and well.
- 1:51:48Ray Cullen, NBC News, Los Angeles.
- 1:51:52And so we continue to get the good news on Commander Shirah.
- 1:51:55Here is Murray Wills up at the plate now.
- 1:51:57Swings on the pitch and hits a foul ball back into the stands.
- 1:52:02For the strike.
- 1:52:05Now the pitch to the plate.
- 1:52:07Marshall cuts it loose.
- 1:52:09A line shot. Left on the field. Base hit.
- 1:52:12Willie Mays cuts it off. Murray Wills is on.
- 1:52:19All of a sudden the Los Angeles Dodgers have come to life in that base hit department.
- 1:52:25Murray Wills has now had four for four this afternoon.
- 1:52:29That will be hit number eight given up by Marshall.
- 1:52:33Murray Wills, excuse me, is a runner at first base.
- 1:52:37With one out here in the bottom of the seventh inning in a real tight ball game.
- 1:52:40Standing three and two in favor of the Dodgers. They've come from behind to take the lead.
- 1:52:44They have Murray Wills at first base. Sepeda is not holding him on.
- 1:52:47He's playing out in front of him in front of the base pass.
- 1:52:50Jim Gilliam is the batter.
- 1:52:53There's a throw over there to Sepeda who is playing about three steps off the bag.
- 1:53:04But it's not in time of course.
- 1:53:07Murray Wills hitting 300 in this series.
- 1:53:10Races batting average to 300 I should say.
- 1:53:15We're waiting for the first pitch now on Jim Gilliam.
- 1:53:17The switcher batting left handed. He's gone over three.
- 1:53:19The hit circle is well.
- 1:53:21And the throw down, not in time, he fails it.
- 1:53:34Jim Gilliam taking the pitch to the plate for a ball.
- 1:53:37And the throw down trying to get the flying feet of Murray Wills was not successful.
- 1:53:42He has stolen 103 bases.
- 1:53:45George Kell, how about that guy, huh?
- 1:53:48One of the greatest baserunners of all time, Murray Wills.
- 1:53:51And the amazing thing about it, Al, everybody in the ball park,
- 1:53:54including the pitcher and the catcher, knows he's going.
- 1:53:57But there's nothing you can do about it.
- 1:53:59Let's keep an eye on him. He just might be heading to third base.
- 1:54:02You're absolutely right, George.
- 1:54:04Doug Dunham, he can move. He's not the fastest man on the club, but he's the best baserunner.
- 1:54:09Here comes the 1-0 pitch to Gilliam.
- 1:54:11That straightens him up, fired right under the chin for ball two.
- 1:54:17Last half of the seventh inning.
- 1:54:19Wills, his fourth straight hit, giving him four for four.
- 1:54:23He's had two stolen bases today to boost his total 103.
- 1:54:27Marshall's second runner, Murray Wills, at second.
- 1:54:30Now delivers the plate.
- 1:54:31Gilliam swings and finds it to the field.
- 1:54:33Harvey Keene and he strikes under it, makes the grab,
- 1:54:36and Murray Wills goes to turn him back into second base.
- 1:54:39So there's a second out here in the last half of the seventh inning.
- 1:54:43The batter coming up now will be Larry Butterite.
- 1:54:48Larry Butterite appearing in his 115th ball game,
- 1:54:51and in this one has the relief second baseman.
- 1:54:54Has had 51 base hits to show for a 206 batting average.
- 1:55:00He's hit four home runs and has 30 runs batted in.
- 1:55:03He can get his 31st run batted in now.
- 1:55:05He should get a hold on cleanly.
- 1:55:07This guy, Murray Wills, is on at second base with two outs, and he'll be running on anything.
- 1:55:12The score is 3-2.
- 1:55:143-2 in favor of the Dodgers.
- 1:55:16They have three runs on eight hits.
- 1:55:18Giants two runs on ten hits.
- 1:55:20Marshall delivers. There goes Murray Wills.
- 1:55:22He'll throw to third.
- 1:55:23And into the dirt.
- 1:55:24On out into the field.
- 1:55:26Wills up after the stolen base moves on to score.
- 1:55:29On a ball one pitch to the plate to Burright.
- 1:55:50Wills lit out and has just stolen his 104th base.
- 1:55:54He scores on in there.
- 1:55:57Up here now is Burright swinging on the pitch, and he pucks at the third base.
- 1:56:02Davenport has it for the outs.
- 1:56:08So the error lets him to run.
- 1:56:09Charge that error to the catcher.
- 1:56:11As Ben each side now has a three.
- 1:56:14So one run here in the inning.
- 1:56:16One run on one base hit.
- 1:56:18A couple of stolen bases by Murray Wills.
- 1:56:20There was an error.
- 1:56:22And there was no one left on.
- 1:56:23It's four at the end of seven full innings of play now.
- 1:56:25The Dodgers four and the Giants have two.
- 1:56:33Now we're back here along with George Kelly, the NBC Microphones, in the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
- 1:56:38We're bringing you the action of this final playoff game.
- 1:56:41We're in the top of the eighth inning and Bailey is stepping up to the plate to face Eddie Robuck.
- 1:56:45The pitch is made and swung on.
- 1:56:47There's a line drive in the right field for the base hits.
- 1:56:50Oh, Bailey is on to get things started here in the top half of the eighth.
- 1:56:54That'll be the second hit off Robuck.
- 1:56:59Four to two is the score.
- 1:57:00The Dodgers lead it.
- 1:57:01What a face stealing exhibition Murray Wills put on in the seventh.
- 1:57:06Stealing two of them.
- 1:57:13Run his total to 104.
- 1:57:15Score it on an error.
- 1:57:17As Ed Bailey the catcher tried to get him going into third base and threw wild and into left field.
- 1:57:2140 error allowing Wills to get right up out of the dirt and come on in to score.
- 1:57:28Down to the plate comes the pitch to Jim Davenport.
- 1:57:31It's outside and low.
- 1:57:33Down in the bullpen Williams and Paranowski cranking up for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 1:57:39There's a change at first base for Los Angeles.
- 1:57:42Ron Fairley has taken over from Moon.
- 1:57:44The pitch is hit on one hop down to Wills.
- 1:57:46He goes to second for one.
- 1:57:48Got a first double play.
- 1:58:01This is the third time in this ballgame that the double play has broken the San Francisco back.
- 1:58:07139 double plays have popped up on the infield for the Los Angeles Dodgers this year.
- 1:58:13Three big ones here in this ballgame.
- 1:58:16The better coming up to the plate now will be Jose Perga.
- 1:58:19He's been up three times.
- 1:58:21He's single twice.
- 1:58:22Four times to the left field.
- 1:58:23And the last time out was in the sixth inning he forced the man.
- 1:58:27Four runs on eight hits for the Dodgers.
- 1:58:29Three errors.
- 1:58:30Two runs, 11 hits.
- 1:58:32Four of the Giants.
- 1:58:33Also three errors.
- 1:58:37The Giants have stranded nine so far in this ballgame.
- 1:58:40The pitch is swung on.
- 1:58:41There is a drive to second base.
- 1:58:43The line is cut second by Perga right from the outside.
- 1:58:48No runs, one hit.
- 1:58:51No errors, nobody left on.
- 1:58:52The score at the end, seven.
- 1:58:54And what's happening to play?
- 1:58:55The Dodgers four, the Giants two.
- 1:58:59Now here is a commercial message.
- 1:59:01This is your Buick announcer with a very special guest.

- 1:59:45Sure, that's the Buick Special's happy low price.
- 1:59:48A surprise low price.
- 1:59:50Tell me medium, can we see the special?

- 1:59:55See the Happy Medium Size Buick Special at your quality Buick dealers October 4th.
- 2:00:02We move along now into the last half with inning number eight and for the NA Dodgers,
- 2:00:11Tom Davis will be out followed by Ron Ferry who just came on in the top of the eighth to play first base,
- 2:00:16and then we'll have Frank Howard.
- 2:00:18Juan Marshall has gone all the way here for the San Francisco Giants.
- 2:00:22He'll be pitching his eighth inning.
- 2:00:24He has given up in this ballgame a total of four runs on eight hits.
- 2:00:30There have been three errors behind him, including one he committed himself.
- 2:00:35Here is Tommy Davis.
- 2:00:37The crossfire is pitched outside for him for ball one.
- 2:00:41Tommy Davis was the guy who changed the complection of the ballgame and sent the tide over to the Dodger side of the fence
- 2:00:47on the bottom of the sixth, one after Snyder who had started in left field, single to left.
- 2:00:51Davis did his 27th home run, and Tommy cracked in two for a total of 153 on the year.
- 2:00:57That is in the RBI department.
- 2:00:58Takes a curve low this time, and it's ball two.
- 2:01:03So Davis this afternoon with his home run and single, stands at the plate two for three.
- 2:01:14Marshall is ready.
- 2:01:15Two-ohs the plate.
- 2:01:16This right-hand hitter takes a look at a soft curve, and it's outside.
- 2:01:19Play ball to no strikes.
- 2:01:28Elvin Dark has come off the giant bench.
- 2:01:31He's said something to Larry Jansen.
- 2:01:34It looks as though they're going to have a pitching change right now.
- 2:01:40Tommy Davis is at the plate.
- 2:01:42He has the count of ball three.
- 2:01:44So if they do make this pitching change, and Davis should get on by the walk and will be charged,
- 2:01:48to the pitcher, Marshall, who apparently now is being taken out of the ballgame.
- 2:01:54Big Don Larson apparently is going to come in to do the relieving here for the San Francisco Giants.
- 2:02:02Larson, if you recall, relieved in the first, or relieved in the ballgame yesterday,
- 2:02:09and fits two-thirds of it and giving up just one base hit.
- 2:02:12So Marshall is out of there after having gone seven innings plus pitching to Davis.
- 2:02:20The Giants took a two-to-nothing lead back in the third inning.
- 2:02:24The Dodgers picked up one in the fourth inning to cut the lead to two-to-one,
- 2:02:28and Davis hit the two-run homer in the sixth to make it three-to-two,
- 2:02:32and Wills putting on a one-man show in the seventh inning as he stole second, third,
- 2:02:38and came home on the wild throw in the left field.
- 2:02:41Tommy Davis, the batter against Larson with a ball three and a no-strike count.
- 2:02:45We're ready to go, and here's Al Helper.
- 2:02:47All right, we are ready to go.
- 2:02:48As Big Don Larson, the right-hander, will crank up and fire three-and-oh to Tommy Davis.
- 2:02:54Forty-five thousand, six hundred and ninety-three customers in here today.
- 2:02:59The curve ball is low, ball four, and that walk will be charged to Marshall.
- 2:03:09That is the first base on balls this afternoon.
- 2:03:12The Dodgers have picked up.
- 2:03:15They haven't needed the bases on balls.
- 2:03:18Maury Wills has been getting on and been putting on the show.
- 2:03:21He's stolen everything here this afternoon, but the opposite team sweatshirts.
- 2:03:26Oh, he has been traveling.
- 2:03:29Here is Ron Fairley up for his first setback of the afternoon.
- 2:03:31He's a relief first baseman.
- 2:03:33The pitch is planted back toward the mound.
- 2:03:35Larson will have to go back to his second baseman, Hiller.
- 2:03:38It works, and Davis goes down to second base.
- 2:03:43Well, Smokey Austin trying to pick up a little insurance here in the last half of the eighth inning.
- 2:03:50He now leads in the ballgame, four to two.
- 2:03:53He wants to nail it down if possible.
- 2:03:57Big Frank Howard coming up there.
- 2:04:01Howard here this afternoon has won 0-3.
- 2:04:05He has not hit a ball out of the infield.
- 2:04:12Last time Howard was up, he was a base runner on an error by Jose Fagan, shortstop.
- 2:04:20There's an attempted pickoff of the winner at second base, but it's not in time.
- 2:04:25Back to Chuck Hiller.
- 2:04:27Tommy Davis slides under.
- 2:04:30Last half of the eighth inning, one out, one on.
- 2:04:33Ballgame standing four to two in favor of the Dodgers.
- 2:04:35Four runs, eight hits.
- 2:04:37They've committed three errors.
- 2:04:38The Giants two runs, 11 hits.
- 2:04:40They've committed three.
- 2:04:42And here in the last of the eighth inning, the Dodgers are trying to pick up an insurance run.
- 2:04:46The pitch to the plate, Howard swings on it and fouls it off the end of the bat.
- 2:04:49Strike one.
- 2:04:53Regardless of which side of the pitch you are on concerning the Giants and the Dodgers,
- 2:04:57there's one thing you've got to know, that your ball club has given everything
- 2:05:01it possibly could give in these three games in the playoff series.
- 2:05:05You can rest assured of that.
- 2:05:14Big Don Larson is ready now.
- 2:05:15Down on the both end for the San Francisco Giants, little Billy Pierce,
- 2:05:18the left hander is up and throwing.
- 2:05:20Larson comes to the plate.
- 2:05:21Howard takes the pitch into the dirt, blocked by Bailey.
- 2:05:24One ball and one strike now to count on Frank Howard.
- 2:05:29And we behind these NBC microphones have gotten a tremendous kick here in 1962
- 2:05:34in bringing to you the action and the color that has surrounded this playoff series.
- 2:05:40We deeply appreciate the opportunity of being able to talk baseball with you for three days.
- 2:05:46Our good friend George Kell here will be with you tomorrow along with Joe Garagiola
- 2:05:50right on this NBC network exclusively with the World Series.
- 2:05:55The 1-1 pitch to the plate, inside off the fists.
- 2:05:58Two balls and one strike to count on Frank Howard.
- 2:06:01All afternoon the fans have been coming in here to Dodger Town.
- 2:06:06When we first spoke to you we had a crowd of approximately 28,000 to 30.
- 2:06:11Right now it is 45,693.
- 2:06:19Larson comes set.
- 2:06:21Looks down to Howard, delivers him 2-1.
- 2:06:22The pitch is again a jammer up against the chest.
- 2:06:25All three, three balls and one strike.
- 2:06:30Last half of the eighth inning won out.
- 2:06:32Davis walked and was sacrificed by Ron Fairley down to second base on a neat punt
- 2:06:36back toward the bar and Larson had to go back to first base to the second baseman Miller covering.
- 2:06:43So the Dodgers have set up a scoring possibility here in the last half of the eighth inning.
- 2:06:474-2 as it now stands, favor of Los Angeles.
- 2:06:55Don Larson on in relief.
- 2:06:58This is not his ball game as it stands, it belongs to Marshall.
- 2:07:03The pitch to the plate, Howard takes over on the inside corner waist-high for the strike.
- 2:07:07Ball count on the big guy, 3-2.
- 2:07:11Marshall, a departed pitcher, had an 18-11 record when he started off today.
- 2:07:16Three times he had beaten the Dodgers, only once had they beaten him.
- 2:07:20And he was six and four lifetime with the Dodgers.
- 2:07:24But Marshall is gone and it's Larson out there now.
- 2:07:28The pitch, there's the runner breaking for third, swung and missed at the plate.
- 2:07:32And to throw down to third base is not in time and it's a steal.
- 2:07:37Actually Howard was swinging to protect the runner, a high outside pitch.
- 2:07:41He strikes out and Davis picks up a stolen base.
- 2:07:47That'll be the fourth stolen base here this afternoon, Meyer-Wilson's stolen three.
- 2:07:52Right, day in the morning, I tell you these Dodgers went right down into the space pass this afternoon and running.
- 2:07:59Tommy Davis, hands on hips, talking with Leo DeRosha at third base.
- 2:08:07The base stealing department, Tommy Davis at 17 and he now has 18.
- 2:08:15The batter is Roseborough.
- 2:08:17Time had been called and Roseborough didn't know it and Larson was throwing the ball down for examination.
- 2:08:24And Roseborough almost took a cut at it.
- 2:08:30There is the pitcher now outside.
- 2:08:32They're going to walk Roseborough intentionally.
- 2:08:39Way outside now, that's the third one.
- 2:08:45Larson will throw ball for her and they'll want to put Roseborough on.
- 2:08:48There's ball for her way outside.
- 2:08:50So Roseborough has been walking intentionally.
- 2:08:53Going to get to Willie Davis.
- 2:09:03That is only the second base on balls the Los Angeles Dodgers have picked up here this afternoon.
- 2:09:08This one was ordered.
- 2:09:09Now the runners at first and third, second is open.
- 2:09:14There'll be a play most anywhere.
- 2:09:15They're going to load them up apparently.
- 2:09:17Time has been called.
- 2:09:19Donatelli comes out and yells down to plate the buckets and time has called for the moment.
- 2:09:24Now we're ready.
- 2:09:25They're going to walk Davis and load them up and pitch to Robuck.
- 2:09:32Makes it play any place.
- 2:09:36There is ball two way outside.
- 2:09:41Open, dark strategy.
- 2:09:44Play anywhere.
- 2:09:47There's ball three.
- 2:09:50Ball four will come whistling down.
- 2:09:53There it is.
- 2:09:54Pitch down, way outside ball four.
- 2:09:57Willie Davis is locked and Eddie Robuck will be coming up to the plate now.
- 2:10:01Robuck fouled out on the third inning.
- 2:10:04It's the only time at bat so far.
- 2:10:08Talking about Robuck, he's a fair hitting pitcher.
- 2:10:11He bats today at 231.
- 2:10:14Three runs batted in, no extra base blows.
- 2:10:18Three RBI for Robuck.
- 2:10:23Now with the bases loaded, two outs last half of the inning, four to two of the Dodgers.
- 2:10:27Don Larson will pitch to his opposing bounceman, Eddie Robuck.
- 2:10:30And this is Robuck's ball game to wonder if he'll lose it.
- 2:10:34The pitch to the plate, Robuck swings.
- 2:10:35It's a drive down to third base.
- 2:10:37Davin caught up with it.
- 2:10:38Makes his play the first in time for the foot out.
- 2:10:40And that retires his last.
- 2:10:41Now the strategy worked as far as Alvin Burke was concerned.
- 2:10:44He loaded him up, he got him out of there.
- 2:10:45In the eighth, no runs.
- 2:10:47There were no base hits.
- 2:10:48There were no errors and three men were left off.
- 2:10:51The score at the end of eighth.
- 2:10:53It's the Dodgers four and the Giants have two.
- 2:10:57Well say if you're a homeowner who wants outstanding home insurance,

- 2:12:14Now for official word we switch to Peter Hackes, NBC News at Cape Canaveral.
- 2:12:30Astronaut Walter Shera has been plucked safely from the Pacific Ocean for a report to Lieutenant Colonel John Powers at Mercury Control.
- 2:12:39This is Mercury Control. Reports from the carrier Kersage indicate that Walter Shera is out of the spacecraft,
- 2:12:45is out on the deck, is being heated on the deck.
- 2:12:48He is smiling, obviously happy, obviously satisfied with the job. Well done.
- 2:12:55Repeat once more. Astronaut Walter Shera has stepped out of the Sigma Southern spacecraft.
- 2:13:02He's on the deck of the aircraft carrier Kersage.
- 2:13:05The NASA and Navy officials on board have met him. He is proceeding now toward the crew
- 2:13:11quarters where he will begin his debriefing.
- 2:13:14The Shera has described as smiling and happy and obviously satisfied with the job. Well done.
- 2:13:23That's the word we've all been awaiting. The MA-8-6 orbital flight is over and appears to have been a complete success,
- 2:13:29perhaps the most successful of the three U.S. orbital flights. Peter Hackes, NBC News, Cape Canaveral.
- 2:13:39That's the complete report from Cape Canaveral on Commander Shera's successful flight.
- 2:13:44This is Ray Cullen, NBC News, Los Angeles.
- 2:13:49Hello, we're back here at Dodger Town in Los Angeles. We're in the top half of the ninth inning.
- 2:13:54Matty Alou batting for loss and has single to right center field. Up now for the...
- 2:14:00...finals, Keene hits it down to joint stop. The play goes back to second for one.
- 2:14:05The throw to first is not in time. So I guess we have you just about caught up now.
- 2:14:09Harvey Keene runner at first base on the foreside of Matty Alou who batted for loss and single to right center.
- 2:14:15And he's cut down from Will to the right.
- 2:14:18So we are in the top half of the ninth inning. Hiller is the man scheduled to come up to the plate.
- 2:14:25One out, one on in the top half of the ninth inning. A little time is called and we'll take that time for station identification.
- 2:14:33This is your sports station at the 810 spot on your radio dial, WGY Schenectady, a general electric station.
- 2:14:41Right back here at Dodger Town.
- 2:15:09Right back here at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
- 2:15:12Hiller is not going to do the batting here. It's going to be big Willie McCovey.
- 2:15:15The big guy is just stuffing into the plate. McCovey, a left-hand hitter facing Eddie Robuck.
- 2:15:20One out, one on in the top of the ninth inning. The pitch to McCovey. A fastball low for ball one.
- 2:15:26Ball, we've had things whizzing today, haven't we?
- 2:15:35McCovey, utility outfielder, utility first baseman. Sidearm pitch to him is low and outside.
- 2:15:42Two balls, no strikes.
- 2:15:45So it's come down to the very last pitch as far as the San Francisco Giants are concerned.
- 2:15:50They're behind by two runs. The Dodgers leading four to two.
- 2:15:53We're in the top of the ninth. Ron Fairley is in right field defensively for the Dodgers.
- 2:15:57The pitch inside ball free to McCovey. Tim Hockness has taken over first base.
- 2:16:08Eddie Robuck comes set. Three over the plate. The pitch, low ball for.
- 2:16:13Here in the top half of the ninth inning, the tying runs are on now for San Francisco.
- 2:16:18And we're going to have a winner in this ball game right now for big Willie McCovey.
- 2:16:25Second baseman Ernie Bowman has gone on the run.
- 2:16:38So the situation here in the top of the ninth inning is that Harvey Keene is at second base.
- 2:16:42Bowman is on at first base and Philippe Ballou is the batsman.
- 2:16:46He's had one hit and four times up today.
- 2:16:49Eddie Robuck in trouble. Sidearms to plate. The pitchers take it inside. Ball one.
- 2:16:59The Giants have left nine men on here in going to bat eight times.
- 2:17:02And they have two men on here now in the top half of the ninth inning.
- 2:17:07Pitch to the plate, swung on. There's a pounding ball foul outside of third.
- 2:17:15Los Angeles Dodgers, by the way, have left eight on here this afternoon.
- 2:17:19The score stands right this minute, four to two, in favor of the Dodgers over the Giants.
- 2:17:23And they've had to come from behind to do it.
- 2:17:25I imagine George Kell will have a lot to say in commentary about this ball game when it's over.
- 2:17:34Harvey Keene steps away from second. Bowman off at first.
- 2:17:37The pitch, taken inside off the elbow.
- 2:17:40Philippe Ballou's count is two balls and one strike. One out here in the top of the ninth.
- 2:17:46There's action down on the bullpen for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 2:17:50Stan Williams is throwing. And someone else back in his chute where we cannot see them.
- 2:17:54Also throwing. That's some action down on the bullpen for Frisco.
- 2:17:58I think that's left-hander Billy Pierce throwing down there.
- 2:18:01Sidearm pitch, inside and tight. The ball three.
- 2:18:05Robuck, who has been the great reliever for the Los Angeles Dodgers,
- 2:18:10is digging himself into a little bit of trouble here in the ninth inning.
- 2:18:13A little bit more than he now has. He has runners at first and second and one out.
- 2:18:18And with Ballou, he is three and one. And Mays is due up next.
- 2:18:30Now Robuck is ready. Top of the stretch he goes.
- 2:18:32Time set. Delivers sidearm pitch. One on and hit fouled on the third base side.
- 2:18:39Three balls and two strikes. That is the count on Philippe Ballou, the right fielder.
- 2:18:44Philippe, with one hit and four times up today, carried a 316 batting average into today's play.
- 2:18:49He had 25 home runs. 98 runs batted in.
- 2:18:53So I think you could say that Robuck has his work very definitely cut out for him.
- 2:18:58King leading off at second. Bowman leading away from first. Sidearm pitch. Way inside.
- 2:19:02Almost got away from Roseborough. That's ball four. Time is called as the bases go loaded.
- 2:19:08Bowman moves down to second. Harvey Kean on over to third.
- 2:19:11And now the tying runs are in scoring position at second and third.
- 2:19:14And Eddie Robuck is in trouble. And here comes Walter Ostenhout to have a talk with him.
- 2:19:21I don't know, George, how you would feel about it, but tell me something.
- 2:19:26From your past experience, just how tough would it be?
- 2:19:31How would it feel to be down on that inner defense right now knowing that the bases were loaded behind your pitcher
- 2:19:36and the tying runs were in pretty good scoring positions?
- 2:19:39Well, it's a tough situation. This is just about as rough a situation as you can have.
- 2:19:44Because the pennant is riding right here on every pitch. They've come right down to the wire.
- 2:19:49And Smokey Osten has moved to the mound for a conference, but he's going back.
- 2:19:53There will be no pitching change. He wants to keep Robuck in there.
- 2:19:57Robuck is a sneakerball pitcher, and he's hoping that somebody will hit one on the ground hard to one of the infielders.
- 2:20:03And the Dodgers can turn it into a double play. They have a two-round lead.
- 2:20:07The bases loaded with one out, and Willie Mays the batter.
- 2:20:10Now, I don't think things should be much tougher than that. Here's the pitch to Willie Mays.
- 2:20:13One run and hit right back off Robuck's club. He cannot hold it.
- 2:20:17The bases are loaded. The run comes in to score.
- 2:20:20It'll be a face-hit for Willie Mays to drive in the third San Francisco run, and now the tying run is at third.
- 2:20:27Willie Mays, a line shot right off the glove of Eddie Robuck, the pitcher. He could not hold it.
- 2:20:35Allu has moved to second. Bowman is on at third.
- 2:20:38And coming in to score here in the top half of the ninth inning, Harvey Keane.
- 2:20:42That is the fourth hit and the first run off Robuck.
- 2:20:45Now it is four to three, and time again is called. This time it's Leo DeRosha going to the mound to talk to Eddie Robuck,
- 2:20:52and I think that's going to be all for it.
- 2:20:55We do know that Williams has been in the bullpen, cracking up for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 2:21:00There have been two down there. One pitcher we can see, the other one we cannot.
- 2:21:05So we'll have to wait and see who Smokey Alston calls upon right now to try to stop and stem this tide in the top half of the ninth inning.
- 2:21:13Talk about thrills and seesawing back and forth. Drama, tenseness, thresher and action.
- 2:21:20We've had it all here in the past two days.
- 2:21:22The first ball game was a runaway for the San Francisco Giants at Candlestick.
- 2:21:27When they defeated behind Billy Pierce, they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 on a fine three-hit shutout pitch by the little left-hander.
- 2:21:35It's going to be Stan Williams coming on to relieve.
- 2:21:37He relieved and was the winning pitcher in yesterday's ball game that went 8-7 on the final score.
- 2:21:43But Robuck is coming out of there. He pitched the sixth, the seventh, the eighth, and one-third of the ninth.
- 2:21:49So he's pitched three and a third innings.
- 2:21:53And Williams is coming on.
- 2:21:57Stan Williams, let's check up on his record again just to be sure of it as he strides in from the bullpen to the mound.
- 2:22:07Williams is coming on in his 40th ball game.
- 2:22:14He's pitched 185 and a third innings.
- 2:22:17He's got a record of 14-12. A round of applause for Robuck.
- 2:22:20Stan Williams will be pitching here in the top half of the ninth inning to Orlando Cepeda and the bases loaded behind him.
- 2:22:41And these men on the bases, of course, the responsibility of Robuck, who could be the losing pitcher in this ball game now.
- 2:22:47Williams is being called upon to hold the line and turn him away.
- 2:22:52He has a 14-12 record, picking up his 14th win here yesterday.
- 2:22:5714-12, he has an earned run average of 4.47.
- 2:23:01He's pitched 185 and one-third innings.
- 2:23:06The big, burly right-hander out on the mound right now has a record with the San Francisco Giants of two wins and four losses.
- 2:23:16Yes, sir, this one's going right down to the wire.
- 2:23:21Stan Williams has come on in relief.
- 2:23:24We can set the Dodgers for you defensively now as they have made changes.
- 2:23:28Tim Harkness is at first base, we told you about that, and Ron Fairley is out in right field.
- 2:23:32So the infield is Harkness at first, a right fur right at second, Barwill is at shortstop, and Jim Gilliam is at third base.
- 2:23:40Tommy Davis, who started at third, is in left field, and center field, Willie Davis, and out in right field, Ron Fairley.
- 2:23:47So we have a real tight speaker going here in the top half of the ninth inning.
- 2:23:50It's four to three in favor of the Dodgers over the Giants.
- 2:23:55The bases are loaded and Stan Williams has come on here to try to stem the tie.
- 2:24:00Let's see if he's able to do it.
- 2:24:02The runners on the bases right now, the responsibility of the now departed Eddie Robuck.
- 2:24:08Orlando Cepeda, he's had one base hit four times up today.
- 2:24:13Right hand hitter.
- 2:24:15Williams delivers to him, fast ball, swirly, first like.
- 2:24:18Applause
- 2:24:27Ernie Bowman, a runner at third base, will take a couple of jumping steps down off there, try to get Williams off his stride and shake him up a little bit.
- 2:24:36Willie Mays is the runner at first, Phillip Allou at second, and Bowman at third.
- 2:24:41Bowman representing the tying run, and Allou at second base representing the goal ahead run.
- 2:24:47Four to three, that's how it stands. The Dodgers lead right this moment.
- 2:24:50Cepeda out there with a count of no balls and one strike.
- 2:24:53Williams on in relief, the third pitcher to be used by Smokey Austin.
- 2:24:57Backs off the mound and chases Bowman back into third base.
- 2:25:00He now pitches the plate that swung on over five ball to right field.
- 2:25:03Fairley is up to it, grabs it.
- 2:25:05They're going to try to score, the throw comes in to the plate, not in time, and it's a tied up ball game.
- 2:25:11Allou also tagging up, moves over to third base.
- 2:25:15Cepeda commits the second out.
- 2:25:20A fly ball to right field, a scoring fly ball to give him 114 runs driven in.
- 2:25:25The run is off Robuck and it's all tied up now at four and four.
- 2:25:29The goal ahead run is on at third base in the person of Allou.
- 2:25:37Willie May just held right on first, he wasn't going to move a muscle.
- 2:25:41So there are two outs here in the top of the ninth inning, and of course the hope now for the Dodgers
- 2:25:47is that they will be able to turn the Giants away
- 2:25:52and have the tie ball game going into the last half of the ninth inning rather than to be behind.
- 2:25:59Roseboro has gone to the mound to talk to Williams.
- 2:26:02Wills has gotten into the conversation and now it breaks up.
- 2:26:10So all quiet right down to the last part of the wire.
- 2:26:18The important runner as far as the Dodgers are concerned is Philly Pallou at third base.
- 2:26:24The batter is Ed Bailey.
- 2:26:26He's had two for four this afternoon and has driven in no runs.
- 2:26:30He's singled up the middle and singled to right.
- 2:26:32Bailey left hand hitter.
- 2:26:35Tennessee Boyle leans over the plate.
- 2:26:38Williams comes set. Delivered is the pitch, just swung on and far away.
- 2:26:42Bailey's bluff's going to second base to try to upset Stan Williams a little bit.
- 2:26:48The right hander has plenty of trouble on the bases behind him, not of his doing,
- 2:26:52but he's been asked to get the ball cup out of it.
- 2:26:56Bailey Pallou hands on hip, stands just off third, talking to Whitey Lockman.
- 2:27:00Now he steps down and said Bailey gets ready to take a look at the next pitch.
- 2:27:03The count on Ed is 0 and 1.
- 2:27:05Mays steps away from first.
- 2:27:07Williams ready, delivers the plate, pitch is high, gets away from Roseboro.
- 2:27:10There goes Willie Mays. He'll go on down to second base.
- 2:27:16Holding a third, Pallou. One ball, one strike count on Ed Bailey.
- 2:27:20Willie Mays stopped midway between first and second.
- 2:27:24He thought time had been called apparently.
- 2:27:26And then saying that the ball was still in play, made a dash for second and made it.
- 2:27:30So he's on at second base now.
- 2:27:35The wild pitch charged to Stan Williams.
- 2:27:41Ball almost got away from Roseboro.
- 2:27:43Now they're going to continue on and put Ed Bailey on at first base.
- 2:27:52Ball three.
- 2:27:55And Williams only threw ball four.
- 2:27:59Roseboro was going to go out to talk to Williams.
- 2:28:03Roseboro just called him back and said that's only ball three.
- 2:28:05Now there's ball four.
- 2:28:07An intentional pass given up by Williams.
- 2:28:12Now that puts it all up to Jim Davenport here in the top half of ninth inning.
- 2:28:16The bases are loaded.
- 2:28:21The runners at second and third are the responsibility of Robuck, whom Williams is relieving.
- 2:28:28At first base Bailey is the responsibility of Williams himself.
- 2:28:32We still have activity down in the Dodgers bullpen.
- 2:28:34As soon as we can find out who that is down there going, we'll let you know.
- 2:28:39Jim Davenport stepping up to the plate.
- 2:28:41See Jim has been up there one, two, three, four times.
- 2:28:44He has one hit to show for it.
- 2:28:45One single down the third base side.
- 2:28:47Last time he hit into a double play.
- 2:28:49That was in the eighth.
- 2:28:52Williams leans forward.
- 2:28:54Now he comes down with the first pitch.
- 2:28:55Davenport takes high.
- 2:28:56That's ball one.
- 2:29:01Bailey Pellew is on the third.
- 2:29:03Willie Mays at second.
- 2:29:04Ed Bailey on the first base.
- 2:29:06Top half of the ninth inning.
- 2:29:07All tied at four and four.
- 2:29:09The Dodgers and the Giants.
- 2:29:14Davenport waggles that wood back and forth.
- 2:29:18Williams ready to come into it now.
- 2:29:19Starts his motion.
- 2:29:21Here comes the one-oh pitch.
- 2:29:22Way inside.
- 2:29:23No bridge.
- 2:29:24Davenport has to hit the dirt.
- 2:29:27Two balls and no strikes.
- 2:29:30I imagine that will keep Davenport from digging in on Stan Williams.
- 2:29:37Two ball, no strike count on Davenport.
- 2:29:41Roseboro out in front of the plate yells something to Williams.
- 2:29:44Then comes stomping back behind the plate.
- 2:29:46The bases are loaded here in the top half of the ninth inning.
- 2:29:48Two runs have been scored by the Giants.
- 2:29:50They are in a tie now with the Dodgers.
- 2:29:52Four and four.
- 2:29:53Now we're ready.
- 2:30:02Dual pitch taken over for the strike.
- 2:30:05This all started here in the ninth inning when Matty Lou hit for Larson and single.
- 2:30:13All of the runs that are being picked up here by the Giants in the ninth belong to Don Larson.
- 2:30:18Starting pitchers there off the hook.
- 2:30:23Williams ready.
- 2:30:24Two runs to the plate.
- 2:30:25High and on the inside.
- 2:30:27Felipe Lojo came charging about halfway down from third base and might have shaken Williams up a little.
- 2:30:35Well, one thing for sure, if Williams misses the plate this time and walks Davenport, he walks across the lead run.
- 2:30:45It's all tied at four and four right now.
- 2:30:49Williams is ready.
- 2:30:50Roseboro puts a minute up as a target.
- 2:30:53Davenport waiting.
- 2:30:54The three-one pitch to him with the bases loaded.
- 2:30:56Inside ball four.
- 2:30:59Davenport walks.
- 2:31:00He'll get credit for batting in his 58th run of the year.
- 2:31:03Bailey goes to second base.
- 2:31:05Mays moves over to third.
- 2:31:07And Felipe Lou walks in to score.
- 2:31:10And that will be charged to Robuck.
- 2:31:13The watch, of course, charged to Williams.
- 2:31:16So here in the top half, opposite in three runs of compiling across for the San Francisco Giants.
- 2:31:24And they're leading it five to four.
- 2:31:26And the complexion has changed again.
- 2:31:28DeRosier is out to talk to Williams.
- 2:31:30And that's going to be all for Williams.
- 2:31:33Let's see.
- 2:31:34Stan came on here in the ninth inning to pitch to the first baseman, Safeda.
- 2:31:40So he's pitched one-third of this inning.
- 2:31:44Just one-third of it.
- 2:31:49Down the bullpen.
- 2:31:50The signal is out for, I believe, a left-hander.
- 2:31:53If it's a left-hander, probably will be Paranowski.
- 2:31:56Someone has been warming up back in the chute, and we can't see who it is.
- 2:32:02But now that he starts to come out of the bullpen, we'll be able to pick him up.
- 2:32:09Ron Paranowski is coming on.
- 2:32:16Paranowski will come on in this ballgame now to pitch to Jose Pagan.
- 2:32:19Let's see.
- 2:32:20There have been eight men come to bat here in the top half of the ninth inning,
- 2:32:23and the Giants have scored three of them.
- 2:32:27So the left-hander, Paranowski, will be pitching to Pagan, but the base is loaded.
- 2:32:31Here's Al Helper.
- 2:32:33All right, George.
- 2:32:34It is a tough situation.
- 2:32:36Jose Pagan coming up, the ninth hitter here in the top half of the ninth inning.
- 2:32:40There are two outs with these bases loaded.
- 2:32:44Paranowski will go to Pagan.
- 2:32:46Jose has been up there four times.
- 2:32:48He has two hits to show for it.
- 2:32:50He hit a left-hander for two, starting pitcher Padres.
- 2:32:53He got two singles his first two times up, hit the left field.
- 2:32:56William has a run over third base.
- 2:32:59That's second, Bailey.
- 2:33:00That first seven for it.
- 2:33:01The pitch is swung on by Pagan.
- 2:33:02The run is long, shot down the left field side.
- 2:33:06It is fouled.
- 2:33:11Five to four the score.
- 2:33:13Ron Paranowski here in relief of Williams.
- 2:33:18He's pitching to Jose Pagan in the ninth with the bases loaded and two outs.
- 2:33:25Paranowski once has beaten the Giants this year once they have beaten him.
- 2:33:30For his work this year, the left-hander has a count of six and six.
- 2:33:34Six wins, six losses.
- 2:33:39Mays, Bailey, and Davenport the runners.
- 2:33:40The pitch outside to Pagan, one ball and one strike.
- 2:33:46All of the runs picked up here in the top of the ninth inning belong to Don Larson, who was derrick for a hitter.
- 2:33:54So Larson has actually pitched only one inning.
- 2:33:59And as George told you a few moments ago, we've got the ball in the right-hander and Bill McPherson left-hander and Penn for first goal.
- 2:34:05Paranowski's fast ball is hit down to second base.
- 2:34:07Burr right bubbles the ball.
- 2:34:08Out with it, makes his play.
- 2:34:10Not in time, a run scored.
- 2:34:17It'll be an error on Burr right.
- 2:34:19He tried to make the play back to Wills to catch the runner coming down to save it, but he couldn't do it.
- 2:34:24He's charged with an error.
- 2:34:25Pagan is the runner now at first base on the Burr right error.
- 2:34:29Davenport, the man he was trying for, is the runner at second.
- 2:34:32Bailey has moved over to third and Willie Mays has scored.
- 2:34:38And we're going to have a batter now for Mattie Halleux.
- 2:34:40Bob Neiman will bat for Halleux, who batted for Larson here to begin things in the ninth inning.
- 2:34:45He's the tenth man to come to bat.
- 2:34:48Bob Neiman.
- 2:34:50He was used yesterday as a pinch batter.
- 2:34:57Paranowski makes the delivery and the curve is outside for ball one.
- 2:35:07Neiman batted in the seventh inning of the game yesterday and flied to center field.
- 2:35:13He batted for Hiller.
- 2:35:14Swings this time and pops it up off the third base side.
- 2:35:16Jim Gilliam comes to the stands, he'll have no play.
- 2:35:20One ball and one strike to Bob Neiman, Jimmie the outfielder.
- 2:35:24He's the tenth man to come to bat here in the seventh.
- 2:35:28Which four big runs have been scored.
- 2:35:34On but two base hits.
- 2:35:38There has been one error in the inning.

- 2:40:28other ideas.

- 2:41:41And at the end of seven innings it was four to two in favor of the Dodgers.
- 2:41:45And it was a grossy at that time.
- 2:41:47At the end of eight it was still four to two.
- 2:41:49And lo and behold, four big runs came charging across the plate for the Giants in the top
- 2:41:54half of the ninth inning.

- 2:42:51The count is one ball one strike on Lee Walls.
- 2:42:56Up here playing in slightly shaded to left.
- 2:42:58He hit his double, his base cleaning double, up the alley in left center yesterday.
- 2:43:07Came on to bat in the sixth inning.
- 2:43:09He hit for Robuck at that time.
- 2:43:13The double with the bases loaded.
- 2:43:15Now the one-one pitch to Lee Walls.
- 2:43:18It's all fun to right hand hitter.
- 2:43:20Billy Pierce, the little left-hander, comes in to win.
- 2:43:22The pitch is going on and hammered to center field.

- 2:44:02I know that our good friend George Kell will have a lot to talk about in just a few moments.
- 2:44:07But say, here is something you should remember if ever you suffer from a pain of headaches.
- 2:44:13It's a tested and proven way to relieve this pain.
- 2:44:16Yes, it's famous, Anisone tablets.
- 2:44:19Now, here is why Anisone gives you more complete relief from these tense, nervous headaches
- 2:44:24than you can get from aspirin or aspirin with a puffering action.
- 2:44:28Aspirin contains only one pain reliever and a puffering action, and you still have only one.
- 2:44:34But Anisone, ah, that's different.
- 2:44:37Anisone is like a doctor's prescription.
- 2:44:39That is, Anisone contains not just one, but a combination of medically effective active ingredients.
- 2:44:45Anisone not only relieves the pain, but also its nervous tension, irritability, and depression,
- 2:44:52and without stomach upset.
- 2:44:54Thousands of people were first introduced to Anisone through their own physicians or dentists.
- 2:44:59In fact, three out of four doctors now recommend the famous ingredients of Anisone.
- 2:45:04So remember for fast, fast, fast, angry leaps, it's always Anisone.
- 2:45:09A-N-A-C-I-N, Anisone.
- 2:45:12Just ask for Anisone tablets at any drug counter.
- 2:45:17Well, Mr. George Kell, it's all over, and we have seen a tremendous finish to the 1962 Nationally Great.
- 2:45:27The final score here again, the Giants six runs, 13 hits, three errors, they had 12 men left on.
- 2:45:33The Dodgers going down to defeat, four runs, eight hits, four errors, they had eight men left on.
- 2:45:38Last in the winning pitcher, Pierce Hamilton-Zao.
- 2:45:41And the losing pitcher for the Dodgers was Eddie Robach.
- 2:45:45And this is our helper at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California,
- 2:45:50with a most sincere thanks to our engineer, John Pollock,
- 2:45:55our producer, who certainly has been a busy man, Mr. Hal Ashby.
- 2:45:59And we're saying goodbye now from Los Angeles, and goodbye to the 1962 regular season.
- 2:46:05And don't forget the World Series starting tomorrow exclusively on this network.
- 2:46:10But by now, this is your World Series playoff network.
