- 3:08Speaker 2: How many years is Kexs Rikaine that's been having Oh gosh,
- 3:11Speaker 2: that is.
- 3:11Speaker 6: A great question that I do not have an answer for.
- 3:14Speaker 6: But many many years, many years.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Well, it's a great event, and tell us exactly For
- 3:19Speaker 2: people that have never been to Kekes, Rikaine has explained
- 3:22Speaker 2: exactly what happened.
- 3:23Speaker 6: Sure, so we set up at the Red Carpet parking lot.
- 3:26Speaker 6: We have a tent, tables, chairs, a couple of beer trailers.
- 3:31Speaker 6: The KCHA Caravan will be there with adoptable dogs.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And I love that it's care care, care of.
- 3:38Speaker 6: And yes, we love a good alliteration. We love a
- 3:42Speaker 6: good play on words. So yeah, it's just a really fun,
- 3:47Speaker 6: laid back afternoon of people coming together that love shelter, animals,
- 3:51Speaker 6: that love dogs. Uh, just raising awareness and support for KCHA.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I love when I have Angie Gillenwater around with me
- 3:58Speaker 2: every Friday. She always when she promoting this thing, Angie
- 4:01Speaker 2: always says, there's dogs and beer. What more could you do?
- 4:04Speaker 4: Exactly right, I mean hello, I mean hold beer, cold noses.
- 4:10Speaker 5: They go together afternoon.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It is the weather, you know, of course long a
- 4:14Speaker 2: few days away, but as of right now, Brian Hughes says,
- 4:17Speaker 2: the weather's going to be absolutely fantastic out there, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: there is some college football on. It's not the you know, W.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Marshall or whatever. There is some college football on. So well,
- 4:24Speaker 2: he's got some TVs out there, so maybe if there's
- 4:26Speaker 2: a game you're interested in, you won't you won't have
- 4:29Speaker 2: to missit. So you got there, lots of great food,
- 4:31Speaker 2: lots of great drink, and again lots of opportunities to
- 4:35Speaker 2: help out the shelter. And there's things that go on
- 4:37Speaker 2: there besides just buying tickets.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, we have t shirts available, we have DJ
- 4:43Speaker 6: Allie is going to be there, Josh Pantry will be
- 4:46Speaker 6: joining us later in the afternoon for some music. Some
- 4:50Speaker 6: of our sponsors will have some table set up with
- 4:53Speaker 6: goodies and some free giveaways. So yeah, it's just a
- 4:57Speaker 6: really it's just a really fun after and in a
- 5:00Speaker 6: really great way to spend a Saturday.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And you couldn't do this without the sponsors.
- 5:03Speaker 6: Absolutely not. Yes, our our sponsors are incredible. We're really
- 5:08Speaker 6: thankful for their partnership and their investment not only in
- 5:12Speaker 6: the event, but in Kseha's work and mission throughout the year.
- 5:16Speaker 6: We have a very wonderful community and we're just so
- 5:19Speaker 6: thankful for their support.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And you know, you guys have had I mean, I
- 5:22Speaker 2: was going to say you've had a rough couple of months,
- 5:25Speaker 2: but uh, you know, that's kind of comes with the territory.
- 5:28Speaker 2: But most recently you've been dealing with the with the
- 5:30Speaker 2: aftermath with the flooding last Sunday. I know, when I
- 5:33Speaker 2: talked to Angie, she talked about how the community had
- 5:36Speaker 2: really come out to help Tree remove all the things
- 5:38Speaker 2: that nature house.
- 5:39Speaker 6: The recovery going aboud, it's going pretty good, uhur. Our
- 5:42Speaker 6: staff really came together to get everything cleaned up that
- 5:47Speaker 6: Monday that we.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Had the aftermath from that storm.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Bolts was out on Monday removing the two trees that
- 5:54Speaker 6: had fallen on our property, so we were uh power
- 5:59Speaker 6: was restored Monday afternoon, so we were ready to open
- 6:02Speaker 6: on Tuesday, but we just Like I said, we have
- 6:04Speaker 6: a really great community, but we also have an incredible
- 6:07Speaker 6: staff that's just really committed to making sure that animals
- 6:10Speaker 6: are taken care of and that you know, everything was
- 6:15Speaker 6: cleaned up and ready to go for Tuesday of Animals.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yeah, and really the shelter does a awesome job. You
- 6:22Speaker 4: guys not only help with fostering animals, but the medical
- 6:26Speaker 4: care you guys do. You'll see these dogs or cats
- 6:30Speaker 4: that you know people dump or whatever you know, are sick,
- 6:33Speaker 4: and you guys rise to the challenge every time. My
- 6:37Speaker 4: last one, two, three, four dogs have come from the shelter.
- 6:41Speaker 4: We adopt senior dogs and somebody's got to take Yeah. Yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 4: I mean it's a little rough when they passed, but
- 6:48Speaker 4: we chime back in again and go grab another one.
- 6:51Speaker 2: So last one, Oh what a beast. Chihuahuas are crazy. Yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 2: I had no idea. Now you're not crazier than I am.
- 7:00Speaker 2: That's saying something.
- 7:01Speaker 7: It is.
- 7:02Speaker 2: We're talking about Kekes for Canines, which is going to
- 7:04Speaker 2: be this Saturday at the Red Carpet Lounge to Charleston,
- 7:06Speaker 2: The Dave Allen Show on five Vidieline Broncho in part
- 7:08Speaker 2: by Pinnacle consultants. When environmental questions come up into building.

- 7:20Speaker 2: Pinnacle Corp dot net. Helping you understand your environment because
- 7:23Speaker 2: what you don't know can't hurt you. Now, how do
- 7:25Speaker 2: people get tickets?
- 7:26Speaker 6: So we have tickets available online if you head over
- 7:29Speaker 6: to Kchase facebook page. Cakes for Canines has an event
- 7:33Speaker 6: page there and getting tickets is super easy. We have
- 7:38Speaker 6: our early bird pricing still going on through Friday, so
- 7:41Speaker 6: you can save a little bit of money if you
- 7:42Speaker 6: get your tickets before the event, or we'll have tickets
- 7:45Speaker 6: available at the door.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And it would really behoove people to try to get
- 7:52Speaker 2: their tickets ahead of time. Absolutely, it just helps everybody.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I'm the number one the person's going to be able
- 7:57Speaker 2: to get in and we're not saying we're too crowded.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But also it gives you an idea for the head count.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Exactly how many people we can expect. Yeah, so you
- 8:05Speaker 6: save a little you secure your spot at the event,
- 8:07Speaker 6: and you get to help shelter pets.
- 8:08Speaker 4: It's a win win with and it's a great get
- 8:11Speaker 4: And if you can't make it, you can still make
- 8:12Speaker 4: a donation.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Absolutely. We have a donation button on the event ticketing page.
- 8:17Speaker 6: You can make a gift on our website. We're always
- 8:19Speaker 6: looking for supplies too, So if you've got dog food,
- 8:23Speaker 6: cat food, blankets, toys, any of that, you can drop
- 8:25Speaker 6: that off at the shelter or drop it off at
- 8:28Speaker 6: the event and we'll take it back to the shelter.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Absolutely, and that's all help. That's one of the things
- 8:32Speaker 2: we talk about in our Adopt Me Please put of
- 8:34Speaker 2: the Week that we do every Friday with Angie. One
- 8:36Speaker 2: of the things that we like to talk about there
- 8:38Speaker 2: is that there are so many ways. You know, they
- 8:40Speaker 2: say you can't save them all, and there are people
- 8:42Speaker 2: that love animals that can't. Necessarily they live in an
- 8:45Speaker 2: apartment complex, or maybe they've got little kids and they're
- 8:48Speaker 2: just you know, having an animal is not in the
- 8:52Speaker 2: cards for them at that time. But you can donate.
- 8:55Speaker 2: You can donate supplies, you can come up and take
- 8:59Speaker 2: dogs for walk, you can foster them. Yeah dogs and cats, yes.
- 9:04Speaker 6: Yep, absolutely, Yeah, there's whatever way you're able to support
- 9:08Speaker 6: or however you want to be involved. We have a
- 9:10Speaker 6: way for you to help out. We're currently ellens Is.
- 9:16Speaker 6: We're in a partnership with Ellen's ice Cream downtown. So
- 9:19Speaker 6: if you borrow a buddy, if you take a dog
- 9:21Speaker 6: out for a couple of hours, gives them a break
- 9:23Speaker 6: from a shelter life, you can take them down to Ellen's,
- 9:25Speaker 6: get them a free pub cup so they can get
- 9:28Speaker 6: something sweet while they're out. But yeah, there's there's an
- 9:32Speaker 6: opportunity for anybody to to support and to get involved.
- 9:36Speaker 2: We had a text here says how is sweet? And
- 9:38Speaker 2: I don't know if this is layla or La la
- 9:41Speaker 2: la la, you know what I'm talking about? Uh, how well,
- 9:44Speaker 2: the first part of the question was how is how
- 9:46Speaker 2: is is that dog doing?
- 9:48Speaker 3: Oh you know what?
- 9:49Speaker 6: I actually I don't know. I would have to get
- 9:52Speaker 6: back to you.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:53Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Also Texas, I just saw on the shelters Facebook page
- 9:55Speaker 2: dog just brought in a little while ago that was
- 9:57Speaker 2: hit by a car. Thankfully looks to have no broken bones. People,
- 10:01Speaker 2: please watch out for these animals out on the road.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Absolutely, yeah, we you know, like STIs, we have an
- 10:06Speaker 6: amazing medical team that will take care of the animals.
- 10:09Speaker 5: But yeah, just be extra vigilant out there, and just yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 5: keep an.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Eye out, watch out for small pets and children because
- 10:15Speaker 4: kids are back at school.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and of course, as I said, Steve and I
- 10:21Speaker 2: will be out there for ninety eight seven a month,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and then there'll be several other of us out there
- 10:25Speaker 2: because one thing that the WVRC Media Charleston group does
- 10:29Speaker 2: is we all love animals and we all like to
- 10:32Speaker 2: have a party. So we're all going to be there
- 10:34Speaker 2: for both of those animals.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's always a good time. I've been to
- 10:38Speaker 4: everyone back in when it started forty nine years ago,
- 10:41Speaker 4: so it's going to be a good time. Don't miss
- 10:44Speaker 4: out at the red carpet this Saturday, four o'clock.
- 10:47Speaker 2: All right, again, give us the website and social media
- 10:50Speaker 2: and everything so people can Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 6: You can head to kha's Facebook page and look for
- 10:56Speaker 6: the Cakes for Canines event page there and the link
- 10:59Speaker 6: for tickets right there for you.
- 11:01Speaker 2: And we'll start about four o'clock, as I said, fourida
- 11:04Speaker 2: seven ish, but at midnight. You know, Steve and I
- 11:08Speaker 2: were talking about this yesterday because he and I both
- 11:11Speaker 2: that day have got like five different events that we
- 11:13Speaker 2: have to be at. So but we can assure you
- 11:15Speaker 2: by four o'clock. Will be there four to four thirty.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Animal and I will be there, and I think several
- 11:19Speaker 2: other as I said, several our other folks here into
- 11:22Speaker 2: Bilding going to be there as well. It's always a
- 11:24Speaker 2: pleasure to have with you on the show. Thanks for
- 11:26Speaker 2: being here. And again Canines will be this coming Saturday.
- 11:30Speaker 2: It starts at four o'clock at the Red Carpet Lounge
- 11:33Speaker 2: Elizabeth Street and Charles Big shout out to PG and
- 11:35Speaker 2: all those folks over there for making that happen. And
- 11:37Speaker 2: I'll talk about this a little bit later on Steve.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Totally unrelated to this. On Thursday, Steve and I are
- 11:43Speaker 2: going to be at Painted Capital City Green. Yes, we
- 11:46Speaker 2: are to build No Flight School and I'm going to
- 11:49Speaker 2: fly a plane. Now do you know this story, Amanda.
- 11:54Speaker 2: So we do Painted Capital City Green. It's a fundraiser
- 11:58Speaker 2: for the Big Green from Marsh University and they do
- 12:00Speaker 2: it once a year up at bill No Flight School
- 12:02Speaker 2: by the airport. And the way they do it is
- 12:06Speaker 2: they bring people in, you know, through the entryway, but
- 12:08Speaker 2: then they actually walk you across the runway and they're
- 12:11Speaker 2: you know, it's obviously it's the whole FAA thing. They
- 12:13Speaker 2: want to make sure that they get everybody in there
- 12:15Speaker 2: safely to get them under the hangar. There are some
- 12:18Speaker 2: planes because Marshall has a very robust flight school now
- 12:22Speaker 2: and so they have some planes out there on display.
- 12:25Speaker 2: And let's just say a couple of years ago we
- 12:27Speaker 2: found out the hard way that they don't like when
- 12:29Speaker 2: you get in the planes, right, Steve, I don't know
- 12:32Speaker 2: what you're talking about.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I just you know, they don't they I mean,
- 12:37Speaker 4: they'll come and you know, I thought they were trying
- 12:39Speaker 4: to buckle the seatbelt on me.
- 12:40Speaker 2: It was just now those are called handcuffs.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 2: So yeah, but it's all of that. It's always fun
- 12:48Speaker 2: when when when all of us get together. Uh so
- 12:51Speaker 2: again that we'll talk about that a little bit later.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And man, that I appreciate you being here. Thanks you

- 16:18Speaker 2: and water and two dollars mini golf as well, check
- 16:21Speaker 2: out Dirty Birds Baseball dot Coyle. I want to see
- 16:23Speaker 2: about another event that's going to be happening. This is
- 16:25Speaker 2: next week September the first over Capital Market. It's called
- 16:29Speaker 2: Sweet Charity and it's a fundraiser for the Faith in
- 16:32Speaker 2: Action Group the Greater Kanah Valley. Here to talk about
- 16:34Speaker 2: Jennifer Wagner. She's the executive director of Faith and Action
- 16:37Speaker 2: of the Greater Kanaal Valley. Thanks for Bena and Jennifer,
- 16:39Speaker 2: thanks so much for having me right and first of all,
- 16:42Speaker 2: talk about the group. What exactly is Faith and Action
- 16:44Speaker 2: in the Greater Kanav Valley.
- 16:45Speaker 12: Sure? So, Faith in Action is a volunteer drecatory to
- 16:48Speaker 12: pull in their organization that supports seniors in our community.
- 16:53Speaker 12: We provide free services like transportation to medical appointments, grocery
- 16:57Speaker 12: shopping assistants. We do friendly phone calls, check ins. We
- 17:01Speaker 12: do minor home repairs for safety like handrails and grab
- 17:04Speaker 12: bars and things like that. It's all free, it's all
- 17:07Speaker 12: volunteer driven. That's our great need always is volunteers. So
- 17:12Speaker 12: we'd love to talk to you about that.
- 17:14Speaker 2: But what kind of volunteers could you use with your organization?
- 17:17Speaker 12: So the single biggest requested thing that we have is
- 17:20Speaker 12: transportation to medical appointments, which is so critical. I mean
- 17:23Speaker 12: for to empower as senior to stay in their own
- 17:26Speaker 12: home like they would like to do an Asian place
- 17:28Speaker 12: with some dignity and some you know independence.
- 17:31Speaker 13: Uh.
- 17:32Speaker 12: They got to get to the doctor, they got to
- 17:34Speaker 12: get checked out, they got to get their health taken
- 17:36Speaker 12: care of. So that's the biggest request is transportation. You
- 17:40Speaker 12: can do it once a month, you can do it
- 17:41Speaker 12: once every three months, you can do it five times
- 17:43Speaker 12: a week. Whatever you're available, you sign up on your schedule.
- 17:47Speaker 12: It's a really flexible and wonderful opportunity to give back
- 17:50Speaker 12: and to get to know somebody in our community.
- 17:52Speaker 2: What is some of the other volunteers. I know that's
- 17:54Speaker 2: the big one. But I mean you talked about doing construction,
- 17:56Speaker 2: you know, minor construction and things like that.
- 17:59Speaker 12: So we don't do construction. I want to be clear
- 18:01Speaker 12: on that, because we get calls for roofs and things
- 18:03Speaker 12: all the time and we don't. Okay, okay, we do
- 18:05Speaker 12: very minor things for safety in the home, like grab bars.
- 18:08Speaker 2: In the bath rails, handrail, yeah, okay.
- 18:11Speaker 12: We can repair steps that are damaged and things like that.
- 18:15Speaker 12: But we do not have construction crews or.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That kind of ability, but just minor stuff like that,
- 18:19Speaker 2: and that'd be great opportunity for people, not me, but
- 18:21Speaker 2: for people that are handy that can do things like
- 18:23Speaker 2: that'd be a great opportunity to help out. If they
- 18:26Speaker 2: want to volunteer, what do they need to do?
- 18:28Speaker 12: The single biggest thing is to visit our website. There's
- 18:30Speaker 12: a whole bunch of information on there about volunteering. It's
- 18:33Speaker 12: a three step process. There's a training you need to attend,
- 18:35Speaker 12: an application to complete in a background screen that's required.
- 18:38Speaker 12: Once you do those three things in your set.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Give us the website a game.
- 18:41Speaker 12: It's faith in Action GKV dot com. That's for Greater
- 18:45Speaker 12: Canall Valley. I always like to clarify, Yeah, so faith
- 18:48Speaker 12: in Action GKV dot com. That our volunteer page is
- 18:51Speaker 12: chock full of info.
- 18:52Speaker 2: All right, and let's talk about this event that you
- 18:54Speaker 2: do it next week. Give us all the details.
- 18:56Speaker 12: Sweet Charity, so Sweet Charity was our signature fundraiser for
- 18:59Speaker 12: the five years and then COVID took us out as
- 19:01Speaker 12: it did a lot of things. But last year we
- 19:04Speaker 12: decided to bring it back and we changed up the venue.
- 19:07Speaker 12: We moved it to Capital Market and man it came
- 19:10Speaker 12: back with a vengeance. It was a strong event. It
- 19:13Speaker 12: was sold out and we anticipate this year is being
- 19:16Speaker 12: sold out as well. We feature nine area chefs and
- 19:19Speaker 12: bakers who bring their wares for you to sample. As
- 19:22Speaker 12: an attendee, you get to vote for your People's choice
- 19:24Speaker 12: award winner. We have a panel of celebrity judges, which
- 19:28Speaker 12: I'm going to get you on that one these Yeah.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Hello, I may not be a celebrity, but I'm judgmental.
- 19:34Speaker 9: There you go, that's all you need.
- 19:37Speaker 12: This year, we have Chef Key who was our big
- 19:39Speaker 12: winner last year at Sweet Charity, so we've invited her
- 19:41Speaker 12: to be one of our celebrity judges.
- 19:43Speaker 2: She's one awesome she really.
- 19:45Speaker 1: We brought her.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I'll tell you a quick story about Chef Key. We
- 19:47Speaker 2: brought her in I think it was last year prior
- 19:50Speaker 2: to fourth of July, and we brought her in on
- 19:54Speaker 2: the show with Amanda and myself and we in the
- 19:56Speaker 2: midday show I'm talking about, and we just sat down
- 19:59Speaker 2: and just set give us some different ideas other than
- 20:02Speaker 2: hot dogs and hamburgers. We did like I could have
- 20:05Speaker 2: done that segment, you know, I mean for like two
- 20:07Speaker 2: hours with all just all the different ideas that we got.
- 20:09Speaker 12: She's amazing and she can do so much with so little.
- 20:12Speaker 12: Sometimes you know that her her spreads are just amazing.
- 20:14Speaker 12: But her desserts are also delicious. And she took all
- 20:18Speaker 12: the big awards People's Choice and I believe it was
- 20:21Speaker 12: Taste the Taste Award last year. So she's one of
- 20:25Speaker 12: our judges this year. We're proud to have her back.
- 20:28Speaker 12: Zach Harold from Festival is one of our celebrity judges.
- 20:31Speaker 12: And our third one is Jessica Martin, which you may
- 20:34Speaker 12: you may know Jessica.
- 20:35Speaker 2: She works here and she you hear her so jam
- 20:38Speaker 2: Fancy one seven three to beat Yeah says she is
- 20:41Speaker 2: one of our You chose you chose Jessica over me?
- 20:45Speaker 2: I mean for thirty eight years? Tell you she's only
- 20:48Speaker 2: been into business for six months. Okay, I want to
- 20:50Speaker 2: tell you the truth.
- 20:51Speaker 12: She's an influencer with some influence.
- 20:53Speaker 2: That's there. You go, and I'm not no, no.
- 20:57Speaker 12: Our mission is to sell some tickets and get people
- 20:59Speaker 12: to this show.
- 21:00Speaker 13: She does.
- 21:01Speaker 2: She does great with what she does. We're very very
- 21:03Speaker 2: happy to have her on board here with our station.
- 21:05Speaker 2: She's incredible. Yes, she's great for.
- 21:08Speaker 12: This town too. She just blows everybody up and she
- 21:10Speaker 12: spreads the love. And with all the events we have
- 21:13Speaker 12: and all this great stuff we have happening here, it's
- 21:15Speaker 12: nice to have a voice.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I got you, I got you, all right, So uh,
- 21:18Speaker 2: tell us about Okay, we know who the judges are.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Tell us some people that are going to be there.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Take us to the door.
- 21:23Speaker 12: We have several retorneys like Rainy Day Bakes, she's she
- 21:28Speaker 12: won an award last year as well. We have Edgewood
- 21:30Speaker 12: Summon has been with us since the very beginning. Their
- 21:32Speaker 12: their chef team, their team of chefs in their service
- 21:38Speaker 12: dinner services. They do amazing job.
- 21:41Speaker 9: Every year.
- 21:42Speaker 12: We have some new people this year. We have Obscure Bakery,
- 21:46Speaker 12: which you may not have heard of. They do a
- 21:48Speaker 12: lot of They do a lot of markets there at
- 21:51Speaker 12: Capitol Market, a lot. She's got. She's a rock star.
- 21:55Speaker 12: She with these crazy concoctions of brownies and treats and
- 21:59Speaker 12: sweet since she's just really imaginative and I'm anxious to
- 22:02Speaker 12: see what she has. We have a gentleman coming who
- 22:05Speaker 12: has Burton's Bakery. He does cheesecakes. He specializes in cheesecakes,
- 22:09Speaker 12: and I have.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Never met him.
- 22:11Speaker 12: I just he's from the area and he started this business.
- 22:15Speaker 12: He learned to cook with the hands of his grandma
- 22:18Speaker 12: and his mom and he's just started this bakery with
- 22:21Speaker 12: the support of his family.
- 22:22Speaker 5: He's one.
- 22:23Speaker 12: I can't remember the name of the competition that he
- 22:25Speaker 12: was in at the Civic Center, but he's he's an
- 22:30Speaker 12: up and comer and we're excited to have him. So
- 22:32Speaker 12: that's that's exciting. So we've got lots of great people coming.
- 22:35Speaker 12: There's nine, Like I said, there's nine chefs and bakers.
- 22:38Speaker 12: You get to sample all the whar's. Your taste passport
- 22:40Speaker 12: gets you a free bite of everything and you get
- 22:44Speaker 12: to cast your vote for your favorite you get. Well,
- 22:47Speaker 12: there's nine o nine.
- 22:50Speaker 2: It's a lot, Yeah, it is. I've done a lot
- 22:53Speaker 2: of events like that, you know, like we do the
- 22:56Speaker 2: mac and Cheese Festival Capital Market every year. They usually
- 22:58Speaker 2: wrote me into that, and also the Biscuits and Gravy Bowl,
- 23:01Speaker 2: which will be happen to hear. I'm sure I'll get
- 23:03Speaker 2: a phone call about that because it normally happens as
- 23:05Speaker 2: the weather gets a little bit cooler, and we'll do
- 23:07Speaker 2: that sometime in October November. Looking forward to that. But
- 23:10Speaker 2: you do you sample as a judge, and you sample
- 23:12Speaker 2: one or two bites, you know those things. But I mean,
- 23:14Speaker 2: it sounds like it's going to be a great event,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and it's going to be at Capital Market, which is
- 23:17Speaker 2: the winner in and of itself, and just.
- 23:20Speaker 12: A couple of other things. Adam Harris has been our
- 23:21Speaker 12: MC every year. He's wonderful as well. Steve Haines is
- 23:24Speaker 12: going to be providing some live music. We have the
- 23:27Speaker 12: wine shop will be there with a cash bar. Base
- 23:30Speaker 12: Camp Printing is going to be there doing a demo
- 23:31Speaker 12: that everybody can take a print home with them, So
- 23:33Speaker 12: that's going to be cool. We have just lots of
- 23:35Speaker 12: fun stuff happening. It's outdoors, it's a lovely summer evening
- 23:39Speaker 12: and it's it's just it's it's a lot of fun.
- 23:41Speaker 12: And I would urge you to get your tickets because
- 23:43Speaker 12: we did sell out last year and we were close this.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Year and Henton we'll do it a couple more times
- 23:48Speaker 2: before we let you go, But remind people where they
- 23:49Speaker 2: can get tickets.
- 23:50Speaker 12: You can get tickets at Faith INACTIONGKV dot com. On
- 23:53Speaker 12: the Sweet Charity button. We'll be right there in front
- 23:55Speaker 12: of your face when you go there. And also it's
- 23:57Speaker 12: all over our faith Facebook page, which is Faith and
- 24:00Speaker 12: Action of the Greater Granaul Valley.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Try to Jennifer Wagner. It's twenty two minutes away from Tampa.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Dave Island show on five eighty line brought you'd fired
- 24:07Speaker 2: by the all New Generations Ford of Hurricane was a
- 24:10Speaker 2: Generations forward dot com without mentioning any names or anything
- 24:15Speaker 2: like that. Give me a cup one or two of
- 24:17Speaker 2: the projects that you have done for some of our
- 24:20Speaker 2: older folks that you're that you're most proud of.
- 24:22Speaker 12: Sure, one that springs to mind every time I get
- 24:25Speaker 12: this question. We had a woman who lived in Nitro
- 24:28Speaker 12: and her home. She was living in a home that
- 24:32Speaker 12: one of her relatives had let her stay in, and
- 24:34Speaker 12: the front door was a sliding patio door that somebody
- 24:37Speaker 12: had just thrown up. I don't know what happened to
- 24:39Speaker 12: the original door, but that was the case and it
- 24:41Speaker 12: didn't lock, so she had to put the broomstick in
- 24:44Speaker 12: the you know, and that was her safety, you know,
- 24:46Speaker 12: in this house in Nitro, and it was just not
- 24:49Speaker 12: a good situation if she wanted to bring groceries in
- 24:52Speaker 12: or something. She always had to go all the way
- 24:53Speaker 12: around the house to come in the back. She couldn't
- 24:55Speaker 12: get in the front door because the broomstick was the lock,
- 24:57Speaker 12: you know, locking the door. So anyway, we had it
- 25:00Speaker 12: team of volunteers who got together and installed a brand
- 25:02Speaker 12: new front door for her. And I have a picture
- 25:04Speaker 12: of her standing with the key in the door with
- 25:06Speaker 12: a smile on her face that would melt anybody's heart.
- 25:09Speaker 12: And she said, I feel like the Queen of England.
- 25:12Speaker 12: I feel like, you know, this is like mind palace now.
- 25:15Speaker 2: And you know, it was just a door, but it
- 25:18Speaker 2: was it was much more than a door to her.
- 25:20Speaker 12: It was safety, it was ownership, you know, she had
- 25:23Speaker 12: she had her own key to get in her own house.
- 25:26Speaker 12: It was it was just it was a lot and
- 25:28Speaker 12: it was a very emotional day, but it was that
- 25:31Speaker 12: was That's one of my favorite all times.
- 25:33Speaker 2: That's a great story right there, Jennifer, And it really
- 25:35Speaker 2: is a great story because again it's not just a
- 25:37Speaker 2: door that's for her, it was a whole lot more.
- 25:39Speaker 2: And that's and when you when you support the events
- 25:42Speaker 2: like this one that we're having, the Sweet Chaired event
- 25:44Speaker 2: coming up on September first at Capitol Market. That's that's
- 25:47Speaker 2: the kind of stuff that you're paying for, absolutely when
- 25:49Speaker 2: you come out for that.
- 25:50Speaker 12: You know, we have lots of sons and daughters who
- 25:53Speaker 12: live out of state and want to support their parents,
- 25:56Speaker 12: their aging parents, but don't know how because they're far away.
- 25:58Speaker 12: They can't get in the car and drive them to appointment.
- 26:00Speaker 12: They call us and we connect with their parents, and
- 26:04Speaker 12: it's a nice way for them to know that their
- 26:07Speaker 12: their parents are being taken care of. And you know,
- 26:10Speaker 12: I had one lady tell me, she said, when I
- 26:12Speaker 12: call my mom, you know, I used to have to
- 26:13Speaker 12: nag or did you take your medicine, did you make
- 26:15Speaker 12: your appointment, did you get to your appointment, how you
- 26:16Speaker 12: get in to your appointment, all these different things. And
- 26:18Speaker 12: she said, I was becoming the parent and I was becoming,
- 26:20Speaker 12: you know, a nag for her to the point where
- 26:23Speaker 12: she didn't want to answer the phone when I would call.
- 26:26Speaker 12: She said, with you guys, engage, she said, I'm back
- 26:28Speaker 12: to being her daughter again. And it's she said, You've
- 26:31Speaker 12: given me the gift that I know that's irreplaceable. So
- 26:34Speaker 12: you know, those kinds of moments, and you know, you know,
- 26:37Speaker 12: it's three hours of your time to drive somebody to
- 26:39Speaker 12: a doctor's appointment and home again, but it's a lifetime
- 26:43Speaker 12: of you know, it's a better quality of life for
- 26:45Speaker 12: the person that you're assisting. And you know, the instant
- 26:48Speaker 12: you have done that active service with that person and
- 26:51Speaker 12: spent that time with that person and been in the
- 26:52Speaker 12: moment with that person, you know you've made a difference
- 26:55Speaker 12: in their lives.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Well, and you've made a friend too. If you didn't
- 26:57Speaker 2: already know my heead of time. If you're driving somebody
- 27:00Speaker 2: an hour or two to a doctor's appointment or even
- 27:02Speaker 2: it's around town, you're going to strike up a conversation.
- 27:04Speaker 2: And then if you're a halfway decent person, which I'm
- 27:06Speaker 2: sure people you know, I'm so weird about that. I
- 27:09Speaker 2: still like to think that most people are, Uh, then
- 27:12Speaker 2: you're going to think, Okay, well, I picked this lady
- 27:14Speaker 2: up and I took her to a doctor's appointment. I
- 27:16Speaker 2: wonder how she's doing. I'm going to give her a
- 27:18Speaker 2: call later and make sure that she's feeling a.
- 27:20Speaker 12: One And we have volunteers who see a name like
- 27:23Speaker 12: they drive somebody in and they jump on the schedule
- 27:26Speaker 12: to sign up for that person every time they're on
- 27:28Speaker 12: the schedule. So you know, they become they do become attached,
- 27:31Speaker 12: they become close, and they become friends, and it's it's
- 27:34Speaker 12: it's just it's a really unique opportunity to make a
- 27:38Speaker 12: difference on a one to one basis, on your schedule
- 27:40Speaker 12: and on your time. I mean, really there's it's the
- 27:43Speaker 12: most flexible volunteer opportunity are going because you sign up
- 27:46Speaker 12: when you're available. If you're not available, you don't sign up.
- 27:48Speaker 2: It's just sim And as far as the volunteers go,
- 27:50Speaker 2: I mean, I'm assuming they have to be eighteen twenty
- 27:52Speaker 2: one somethun t drive. It have to be twenty one
- 27:54Speaker 2: or all right, a licensed driver with insurance and all
- 27:56Speaker 2: the things.
- 27:57Speaker 12: And but to do anything else, like you know, if
- 28:00Speaker 12: you want to move grass, if you want to install
- 28:02Speaker 12: a grab bar. You know, we have volunteers sixteen and up,
- 28:05Speaker 12: but you know, if they're sixteen to eighteen, you have
- 28:07Speaker 12: to be with another volunteer. But yeah, we have opportunities
- 28:12Speaker 12: for everybody. We have moms who drive and take their
- 28:14Speaker 12: kids with them, which is a great example to set.
- 28:16Speaker 2: You know, if there's a learning experience, for sure, we
- 28:19Speaker 2: have some of.
- 28:20Speaker 12: Our seniors that we serve are actually volunteering as phone callers,
- 28:24Speaker 12: so they are calling a lonely senior and they're both
- 28:27Speaker 12: helping each other and it's a beautiful day. It's one
- 28:30Speaker 12: of my favorite programs because the volunteers in the phone
- 28:33Speaker 12: call program are largely people that we're serving in other ways,
- 28:37Speaker 12: so it's there's just it's just a great I just
- 28:41Speaker 12: I just get up happy to go to work.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I was gonna say, how long have you been.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Involved in this?
- 28:45Speaker 12: I started this program here? Twelve years are about twenty fourteen,
- 28:50Speaker 12: So yeah.
- 28:51Speaker 2: So you started the pre what if you don't mind?
- 28:52Speaker 2: I asking what led you to start the program.
- 28:54Speaker 12: I was working at the Alzheimer's Association at the time,
- 28:57Speaker 12: and my background is marketing. We moved back home in
- 29:00Speaker 12: two thousand and nine and I had a corporate marketing
- 29:02Speaker 12: background and I came home and that job didn't exist here.
- 29:06Speaker 12: So I wanted to do something that made sense for
- 29:09Speaker 12: my heart more than my pocketbook, I guess, and I
- 29:12Speaker 12: went to work at the Alzheimer's Association, and in that role,
- 29:15Speaker 12: I was on the front lines a lot with the
- 29:16Speaker 12: families who would call in, and I just saw the
- 29:19Speaker 12: gaps in the holes in the in the services that
- 29:21Speaker 12: were available to families and seniors in particular. So even
- 29:25Speaker 12: with our county aging programs who were wonderful and do
- 29:28Speaker 12: a great job, you know, they have eligibility requirements because
- 29:31Speaker 12: they take tax payer money, right, so they have to
- 29:34Speaker 12: meet certain requirements to get their funding. So if you're
- 29:37Speaker 12: a you know a little bit, if you make twelve
- 29:40Speaker 12: dollars a month too much, or you live just outside
- 29:42Speaker 12: the geography that they serve, or whatever the case may be,
- 29:44Speaker 12: you may follow in the gap where you can't get
- 29:46Speaker 12: served by them.
- 29:47Speaker 9: So then what do you do?
- 29:48Speaker 12: You still need help, you know, so who's going to
- 29:50Speaker 12: be there for you? So that's why I created Faith
- 29:53Speaker 12: in Action, which is a model that it's a national
- 29:54Speaker 12: model that I brought here. So we're a local, one
- 29:57Speaker 12: hundred percent local organization, but Faith in Action is based
- 30:00Speaker 12: on a national care caregiving model.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Well, and so when people if they buy their tickets
- 30:05Speaker 2: for this event or they make donations, does the money stay.
- 30:08Speaker 12: One hundred percent of the fund stay right here? We
- 30:10Speaker 12: have a local board. We don't report to anybody else
- 30:13Speaker 12: beyond us. We are we are one hundred percent self
- 30:15Speaker 12: contained and local We.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Had a text here said, could kids volunteering to do
- 30:19Speaker 2: things with you all be their community service requirements for graduating?
- 30:22Speaker 12: One we have beg schools to give us some lawnmowers.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there you go.
- 30:28Speaker 12: We have so many people who need help with yard
- 30:30Speaker 12: work and it's you wouldn't believe what a challenge it
- 30:33Speaker 12: is to find somebody who wants to mow the grass
- 30:35Speaker 12: for for someone a couple of times a month. So yeah,
- 30:38Speaker 12: so absolutely, just give us a call or you know,
- 30:41Speaker 12: send us an email or a message through Facebook, and
- 30:43Speaker 12: we'd be happy to talk to you.
- 30:44Speaker 2: And I think that's what the text is referring to.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I think that's one of the best things that West
- 30:48Speaker 2: Virginia Schools Public Schools ever did, was requiring community service
- 30:53Speaker 2: for you know, kids in order to graduate, to have
- 30:55Speaker 2: to have so many hours, and there's so many different
- 30:57Speaker 2: opportunities and so many different things that they can do,
- 31:00Speaker 2: whether it's something like you guys do or something you know,
- 31:02Speaker 2: there's so many different things they could do. I think
- 31:03Speaker 2: it's a wonderful opportunity, you know, and.
- 31:05Speaker 12: Everybody always wants the group projects, you know, team building
- 31:07Speaker 12: and this and that, which is great, but it's really
- 31:10Speaker 12: for us, it's more one on one. It's more personal than.
- 31:12Speaker 2: It's not just about I mean, from what I'm gathering
- 31:14Speaker 2: from you, and we've talked about this in the past,
- 31:17Speaker 2: it's not just about mowing the grass. It's about you know,
- 31:19Speaker 2: sitting there on the porch, maybe talking with them, having
- 31:21Speaker 2: a glass of water lemonade afterwards, and talking to.
- 31:24Speaker 12: One of the most important pieces of the training that
- 31:26Speaker 12: you'll if you come to a training. The very last
- 31:29Speaker 12: message that I leave you with is it's not about
- 31:31Speaker 12: the task you're doing or the request you're fulfilling. It's
- 31:35Speaker 12: about the time you're spending with that person, in the
- 31:37Speaker 12: connection you're making. It's about looking them in the eye
- 31:39Speaker 12: and being present in that moment with them. We you know,
- 31:42Speaker 12: we never want them to feel like they're a burden
- 31:44Speaker 12: or that we're doing them a big favor. You know,
- 31:46Speaker 12: it's it's our privilege and our pleasure to serve. And
- 31:50Speaker 12: you know the volunteers who work with us feel that
- 31:51Speaker 12: way too, and make sure that our seniors know that.
- 31:54Speaker 12: So you know, that's that's that's what it is in
- 31:57Speaker 12: a nutshell for me.
- 31:58Speaker 2: All right. So the event is called Sweet Charity. It's
- 32:01Speaker 2: at the Capital Market on September the first, and give

- 36:00Speaker 2: six o'clock. We got the head coach of the football team,
- 36:04Speaker 2: of course, Marshall opening up and Happy Valley. It gets
- 36:07Speaker 2: Penn State, so we'll hear from Tony Gibson about that.
- 36:10Speaker 2: UH had a basketball coach, Corney Jackson. Several of the
- 36:13Speaker 2: other coaches are there, Julie Fulkes, Caleb Bowen, Evan Richards,
- 36:16Speaker 2: the athletic director, Jerald Harrison, who I mean, We've interviewed

- 36:27Speaker 2: I mean, he's saying he's a great, great guy. So
- 36:30Speaker 2: he's going to be there. The Voice of the Thundering
- 36:33Speaker 2: heard Steve Cotton will be there. And what Cotton normally
- 36:36Speaker 2: does is we have some of the coaches. Sometimes players
- 36:38Speaker 2: show up sometimes you know, sometimes they're there, sometimes they're not,
- 36:42Speaker 2: but the coaches are definitely there. He does a little
- 36:44Speaker 2: bit of a roundtable with the coaches to talk about
- 36:47Speaker 2: their upcoming seasons, their past seasons.
- 36:50Speaker 16: UH.
- 36:50Speaker 2: It's just a big old party up at the bill

- 37:04Speaker 2: a hardcore Marshall fan to have a good time at
- 37:07Speaker 2: the party. And that's exactly what it is. It's up
- 37:10Speaker 2: at the bill No Flight School by the airport and

- 37:38Speaker 2: A couple of quick things in the news story posted
- 37:41Speaker 2: this morning WHS network dot com. The flood cleanup is
- 37:46Speaker 2: continuing here in kanaw in the Canawha County area, not
- 37:50Speaker 2: only in the city of Charleston, but also in the
- 37:52Speaker 2: outline areas that we I want to focus on. The
- 37:53Speaker 2: outlining areas right now, the County Commission has two weeks
- 37:59Speaker 2: that they set up for cleanup of debris. Now. C. W. Sigmund,
- 38:02Speaker 2: who is the Canawa County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director,
- 38:05Speaker 2: says the county has a contract with Rodney Lofts and
- 38:08Speaker 2: Sons to collect debris in Campbell's Creek, Cabin Creek, Rutledge Road,
- 38:14Speaker 2: and Across Lanes. Now they're starting in Campbell's Creek and
- 38:19Speaker 2: Cabin Creek and it's kind of Sigmund did an interview
- 38:24Speaker 2: with her news team and he says, it's kind of
- 38:26Speaker 2: iffy right now as to whether or not there was
- 38:29Speaker 2: actually enough damage to believe it or not for a
- 38:31Speaker 2: federal disaster declaration for individual assistance. And again, this can
- 38:36Speaker 2: be very complicated and sadly, in West Virginia, as many
- 38:39Speaker 2: floods as we've had, we should be used to this
- 38:41Speaker 2: by now, but it's very complicated the way it works
- 38:44Speaker 2: as to whether there'll be money's are available for individuals.
- 38:48Speaker 2: But he was kind of as well, we may and
- 38:51Speaker 2: we may not. We just don't know yet. But just
- 38:55Speaker 2: remember though, they ask that if you've got this debris
- 38:58Speaker 2: and you live in those areas again, are going to
- 39:00Speaker 2: start on Campbell's Creek and Cabot Creek. If you live
- 39:02Speaker 2: in those areas, you need to pull that stuff out
- 39:04Speaker 2: of your yard or to the curb or your driveway
- 39:07Speaker 2: or whatever, because by law, they are not allowed to
- 39:10Speaker 2: go on private property. And I know it happened so
- 39:12Speaker 2: many times people they got flooded. They're like, well, I've
- 39:15Speaker 2: got this refrigerator and it needs you know, it needs
- 39:19Speaker 2: to come out of my basement or my It's just
- 39:21Speaker 2: the way it is. They cannot go on private property.
- 39:24Speaker 2: So get your neighbors, get you you know, church groups
- 39:26Speaker 2: or whatever, and get somebody to try to help you
- 39:28Speaker 2: get it out to the curb. So again, we got
- 39:31Speaker 2: more information available over at the local website wcchsnetwork dot com.

- 40:10Speaker 2: metronews dot com. Twenty year old James McDaniel and Colton Garcia,
- 40:15Speaker 2: both again were twenty and a couple of twenty one
- 40:17Speaker 2: year olds named Cayden. Cayden Ashby was one, Caden Radford
- 40:21Speaker 2: was the other. All are from Raleigh County, and you
- 40:24Speaker 2: know the story. They were killed when the pickup truck
- 40:29Speaker 2: they were in ran over the retaining wall on the
- 40:33Speaker 2: elevated part of the sixty four to seventy seventh split
- 40:35Speaker 2: and that truck fell, according to investigators, approximately forty two
- 40:40Speaker 2: feet onto a lot below.
- 40:42Speaker 7: Now.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Charleston Police say the investigation is continuing and it's a
- 40:46Speaker 2: tragic story, nonetheless, But I guess what kept hitting me
- 40:51Speaker 2: was these were four young men, ages twenty and twenty
- 40:55Speaker 2: one respectively, you know, and that's the thing that just
- 41:00Speaker 2: and again, the investigation is continuing. We'll leave that up
- 41:03Speaker 2: to the authorities as to what happened and all that.
- 41:05Speaker 2: That'll all come out later, but regardless, those families are
- 41:09Speaker 2: without four young men just really starting the primes of
- 41:12Speaker 2: their lives to be adults, and it's just a sad,
- 41:15Speaker 2: sad story in their hearts. And thoughts and prayers go
- 41:18Speaker 2: out to the families and the friends and loved one
- 41:20Speaker 2: of those four young men that were killed in that
- 41:22Speaker 2: tragic accident Friday night, immediately after the Jane the Jason
- 41:26Speaker 2: Alding concert and one of the if you don't want
- 41:31Speaker 2: to say one of the good things that came out
- 41:32Speaker 2: of it, but I will say after the fact, there
- 41:35Speaker 2: are several groups that are getting involved. I saw actually
- 41:38Speaker 2: a piece on the news last night that the people
- 41:41Speaker 2: and the brothers of the Wheel Motorcycle Club are planning
- 41:44Speaker 2: charity ride next month in honor of these four guys
- 41:49Speaker 2: and to try to help their families out financially and
- 41:52Speaker 2: so on and so forth. And that's going to be
- 41:54Speaker 2: next month. We'll have that story on the air as
- 41:56Speaker 2: we get a little bit closer. But it was a

- 45:33Speaker 2: to be reconstructed and possibly have steel support beams behind
- 45:36Speaker 2: them that could be stretched to the row below. We
- 45:39Speaker 2: talked a lot about this over the last twenty four
- 45:41Speaker 2: hours since these you know, we had the accident last
- 45:43Speaker 2: Wednesday morning involving the tractor trailer, and even before that
- 45:47Speaker 2: we talked to on midday yesterday Delaga Dane of Ferrell,
- 45:50Speaker 2: whose daughter was involved in an accident on the Ford
- 45:53Speaker 2: Hill Bridge. I think it was the previous Sunday night
- 45:55Speaker 2: to that, and then of course this accident that we
- 45:57Speaker 2: talked about from Friday and night after the concert. And
- 46:02Speaker 2: you know, I don't know. I try not to weigh
- 46:05Speaker 2: in on things like that because I'm not a road engineer.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Uh and uh, I don't, I don't, I don't. I
- 46:11Speaker 2: don't know what I'm talking about, even less that I
- 46:13Speaker 2: normally know what I'm talking about, So leave that up
- 46:16Speaker 2: to the professionals. But I do appreciate the text, and
- 46:20Speaker 2: you know, I did learn so I didn't learned a
- 46:22Speaker 2: lot in the interview yesterday with the Elegant to Dana Ferrell,
- 46:25Speaker 2: when I guess I just hadn't thought about that when
- 46:28Speaker 2: we were talking about, you know that there's more traffic
- 46:31Speaker 2: in those areas now than what there was ever before.
- 46:33Speaker 2: In my mind, because I'm a simple guy, my mind
- 46:36Speaker 2: was like, well, there's like fifty percent less people here
- 46:39Speaker 2: than what the east. But that's actually there's a lot
- 46:41Speaker 2: more vehicular traffic than what there was, thank you Amazon,
- 46:45Speaker 2: uh and plus back in the day, in the sixth
- 46:48Speaker 2: season seventies, pretty much everybody drove cars, and now people
- 46:51Speaker 2: buy a truck or they drive trucks and SUVs. Some
- 46:54Speaker 2: manufacturer don't even make cars anymore, they do, They just
- 46:57Speaker 2: make one or two. Everybody drives big SUVs and it's
- 47:00Speaker 2: gonna take it's gonna take a toll on the roads.

- 48:19Speaker 2: Sadly it will not be the last. Well, I mean,
- 48:23Speaker 2: and we talked to Brent Walker, Apartment of Highway spokesperson
- 48:26Speaker 2: yesterday about that. And look, I'm not going to get
- 48:31Speaker 2: into you know, what happened in any of these particular accidents,
- 48:35Speaker 2: not my place to do that, but I will say
- 48:38Speaker 2: that in so many accidents, it all starts with human error.
- 48:41Speaker 2: And we can talk about highway issues, we could talk
- 48:44Speaker 2: about this, talk about that, but a lot of it
- 48:47Speaker 2: that's exactly where it starts. Text Perhaps people should drive,
- 48:52Speaker 2: try driving slower and creating space between them and the

- 49:41Speaker 2: points off my license because I'm in that big a
- 49:43Speaker 2: hurry to get somewhere. I'm sorry. So if you are
- 49:47Speaker 2: the driver of that other car, I apologize. Text. I
- 49:53Speaker 2: wonder if building a separate bridge strictly for tractor trailers
