Transcript
- 0:21So, I was looking at a study the other day, Ava, from Harvard Business School.
- 0:26They looked at how professionals handle feedback at work.
- 0:29And it highlighted something really interesting.
- 0:32Many people default to cutting out valuable perspectives or retreating into comfort,
- 0:38rather than holding higher standards for what truly builds excellence.
- 0:42Right.
- 0:43There is a huge difference between tolerating toxic negativity,
- 0:48which nobody should ever accept, and seeking out high level,
- 0:52purposeful standards that actually help you grow.
- 0:56When people retreat into an echo chamber just to avoid higher standards,
- 1:01they end up staying stagnant.
- 1:02Exactly.
- 1:04It is a slow way to, to just stay stagnate.
- 1:08And it reminds me of this psychological framework called the Johari Window.
- 1:13You have these four quadrants of what you know about yourself and what others know.
- 1:17And there is this one specific corner, the Blind Spot.
- 1:22It is the stuff about your performance, your habits, your tone,
- 1:26that everyone else in the room can see clearly, but you are totally blind to.
- 1:31Right, the Blind Spot.
- 1:33And the only way, the only actual way to open that window and see inside is to
- 1:39invite real, authentic perspectives.
- 1:42It is like the whole theme behind that PTT Music track, "Talk To Me."
- 1:47That song captures this exact mindset.
- 1:51Lines like, keep it honest, show me the real you, and leave the games
- 1:57behind, say what you mean, don't fake it.
- 2:01It is all about stepping out of the shadows and demanding genuine truth.
- 2:06That fits so well.
- 2:08When you desire truth like that, unhelpful internet hiss just falls away because it
- 2:14is not real.
- 2:15Exactly.
- 2:16"Talk To Me" makes it clear that only what is real is welcome here.
- 2:21When our team was working on the production, they were not looking for fake praise
- 2:26or random online noise.
- 2:27They relied on honest, precise feedback from the mixing engineer to get the vocal
- 2:32clarity right.
- 2:34They invited the truth because they knew genuine perspective leads to growth.
- 2:40That connects so well with audio production.
- 2:43In music, we use a bandpass filter to let specific, meaningful frequencies through
- 2:49while filtering out the extreme highs and low static.
- 2:52That is why simply closing your ears to everything is a mistake.
- 2:57You do not shut down your receiver, you just apply a better filter to let only what
- 3:02is honest and constructive enter.
- 3:04Yes, applying a bandpass filter to life.
- 3:07That is such a great way to put it.
- 3:09True, constructive perspective has depth and substance, focusing on genuine growth
- 3:16instead of useless noise.
- 3:18So how do we build that filter in practice?
- 3:21We use three gates.
- 3:23Every time feedback lands, you run it through three specific tests.
- 3:28Gate one is source credibility.
- 3:30Does this person actually have skin in the game?
- 3:33Have they built something, or are they just shouting from the sidelines?
- 3:37Gate two is specificity.
- 3:39Is it a vague reaction, like, this sucks, or is it a detailed observation,
- 3:44like, your transitions are too abrupt?
- 3:46And gate three is actionability.
- 3:49Does it offer a practical path forward?
- 3:51If it does not pass those gates, it is just hiss.
- 3:55Drop it.
- 3:56That makes it so mechanical, which is exactly what you need when emotions start to
- 4:01flare up.
- 4:02It takes the sting out of it.
- 4:04So, let us give everyone three immediate action steps to start practicing this
- 4:10today.
- 4:11First, establish a Critique Log.
- 4:14For the next forty eight hours, when you get feedback, do not react.
- 4:18Just write it down.
- 4:20Let it sit for two days so the immediate emotional spike fades,
- 4:24and then look at the objective facts.
- 4:28Second, recruit a Blind Spot Ally.
- 4:31Find one trusted peer, a friend, a colleague, and tell them,
- 4:36I want the raw, constructive truth, not the sugarcoated version.
- 4:40And third, apply that Three Gate Test.
- 4:44The very next time you face criticism, run it through credibility,
- 4:48specificity, and actionability before you say a single word in response.
- 4:53Those are so doable.
- 4:55It is about moving from defense to growth, letting the right signals shape us into
- 5:00who we are meant to be.
- 5:02When you stop fearing feedback and start filtering it, you gain total clarity.
- 5:08You are no longer tossed around by random noise, you are driven by truth and
- 5:14purpose.
- 5:15And that is where real confidence comes from.
- 5:18It is knowing that what you are building is grounded in truth,
- 5:22integrity, and continuous growth.
