- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast.
- 0:07Speaker 2: This is spoil Me, covering one piece episodes seven sixty
- 0:13Speaker 2: six and seven sixty seven, Lufi's decision, Soanji on the
- 0:17Speaker 2: brink of quitting, and a volatile situation the dog and
- 0:22Speaker 2: the Cat and the Samurai. In these episodes, it turns
- 0:29Speaker 2: out they were harboring a samurai the whole time. I
- 0:38Speaker 2: love this. I never ever guessed that he was really there,
- 0:44Speaker 2: that they were really there. I'm not even sure if
- 0:46Speaker 2: we know if it's a woman or a man.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Either way, thumbs up.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to the show everyone. I
- 1:15Speaker 2: am Natasha. Thank you very much to Florin for commissioning
- 1:19Speaker 2: this episode, and Florine and Sarah Im are here in
- 1:22Speaker 2: the chat to join me today. Appreciate you guys being
- 1:25Speaker 2: here so.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yet, y'all.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I really was caught off guard by this and delighted
- 1:33Speaker 2: by it also. I just look, it's I am not
- 1:42Speaker 2: somebody that is going to keep the location of a
- 1:45Speaker 2: person secret when you torture me. Okay, I am so
- 1:50Speaker 2: so sorry.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I am not your girl. Okay.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I am going to tell them what they want to
- 1:58Speaker 2: know as soon as they get out and implement. I really,
- 2:07Speaker 2: I've just got no tolerance and torturing me would be
- 2:15Speaker 2: such a waste of time because I will have told
- 2:19Speaker 2: you everything before you do a damn thing to me.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I just you know, and maybe you know who knows.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Maybe if I were put in a real situation where
- 2:33Speaker 2: it was like Rashan and I felt like she were
- 2:36Speaker 2: really in danger and I couldn't tell because these people
- 2:40Speaker 2: were gonna go after her and the stakes felt like real,
- 2:45Speaker 2: maybe I.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Could hold out.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Maybe I would be you know, But I've really got
- 2:51Speaker 2: to say that from out here where I'm sitting, it feels.
- 2:56Speaker 1: To me like.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I I would do exactly what I am telling you,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and the idea Dogstorm lost a whole leg.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Couldn't be me.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Kids, Absolutely not. Like it's the sort of thing where
- 3:21Speaker 2: I don't know what these people wanted the samurai for
- 3:26Speaker 2: what they were going to do to him. My assumption
- 3:30Speaker 2: is they were gonna kill him. Feels pretty safe to say,
- 3:35Speaker 2: but I don't know why. What it is that he
- 3:41Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, that he did that they
- 3:43Speaker 2: were trying to get it him for. I don't know
- 3:47Speaker 2: if they know either, but it seems like they consider
- 3:51Speaker 2: him enough of a friend that This is my question
- 3:56Speaker 2: is like when they say friend versus when I say friend,
- 4:02Speaker 2: are they saying friend in the way that Loofy says friend.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Looviy counts like everybody as his friend, you know, as
- 4:12Speaker 2: long as we like fought on the same side at all,
- 4:16Speaker 2: even sometimes if we didn't. So a part of me
- 4:20Speaker 2: is sort of I like, I would like to be
- 4:25Speaker 2: that way, but I'm just not. There're gonna be some
- 4:28Speaker 2: people that I would throw down my life for and
- 4:31Speaker 2: there are people that I just wouldn't. And Looviy it's
- 4:34Speaker 2: like not a question, but it's also sort of Lovie
- 4:38Speaker 2: takes it for granted that he's not gonna die, We're
- 4:42Speaker 2: given whatever situation. It is not seen by him almost
- 4:48Speaker 2: ever as him laying down his life because he just
- 4:51Speaker 2: doesn't believe he will lose. And that is sort of
- 4:56Speaker 2: where the disconnect is for me a lot. You know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: Florien says, we thought about doing this as a boy.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Your Yeah, I could see why, and I definitely like
- 5:09Speaker 2: had a reaction. I was watching it this morning on
- 5:12Speaker 2: my couch with my dogs and I but it was
- 5:15Speaker 2: like a huge reaction. I just went, oh, that's rad,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and that was pretty much it, so you didn't miss
- 5:21Speaker 2: a lot, but I could see why you were thinking
- 5:23Speaker 2: about it.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Katiber lost a hand.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Oh my god, I keep forgetting that because it's all
- 5:27Speaker 2: bound up. I keep thinking that his hand is in there,
- 5:31Speaker 2: but it's been mentioned that it's gone. So yeah, Saraphim says,
- 5:36Speaker 2: you give Lufia a slice of bacon, he will topple
- 5:39Speaker 2: entire governments for you. Bacon's really fucking good, you know,
- 5:44Speaker 2: like I could see it. So all right, let us begin.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I have to mention to you guys, this show has
- 5:54Speaker 2: the intro that it always does, and then it has
- 5:58Speaker 2: now this like new interstitial not interstitial thing, but sort
- 6:03Speaker 2: of like opening bit where it's introducing each of the
- 6:08Speaker 2: characters individually with like a little action shot of them,
- 6:13Speaker 2: and it's along with giving us the background on who
- 6:18Speaker 2: Loofy is and finding the one piece and the whole thing,
- 6:22Speaker 2: and it is. It's gotten to the point now where
- 6:27Speaker 2: the actual like new episode isn't starting until almost six
- 6:32Speaker 2: minutes in sometimes.
- 6:34Speaker 3: So it's a lot.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I feel like they're also making the theme songs longer,
- 6:42Speaker 2: but that could just be my imagination. But you know,
- 6:44Speaker 2: I skip the intro most of the time, like with
- 6:50Speaker 2: the previous arc. I would often if I was doing
- 6:53Speaker 2: three episodes in a row, I'd listen to the intro
- 6:55Speaker 2: music for the first episode, and then I would skip
- 6:58Speaker 2: the intro after that. But I try not to watch
- 7:00Speaker 2: the intro just because a lot of times it has
- 7:02Speaker 2: spoilers in it, and in the like when when the
- 7:11Speaker 2: theme song ends, a lot of times it will just
- 7:14Speaker 2: do the sort of you know, monkey de loofy. But
- 7:17Speaker 2: here it's a whole thing that it didn't used to be.
- 7:21Speaker 2: So I'm getting a little frustrated with how much I'm
- 7:24Speaker 2: fast forwarding through. But anyway, so we are finding out
- 7:32Speaker 2: that Sanji's family is apparently like all Assassins, which I
- 7:41Speaker 2: am super curious about all of this, You guys, I
- 7:45Speaker 2: cannot wait to find out what the hell is going
- 7:47Speaker 2: on here? You know, it's.
- 7:53Speaker 3: We know that.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He learned how to cook, like he interesting cooking already.
- 8:01Speaker 2: We saw on that other ship and they were basically
- 8:05Speaker 2: making fun of the fact that he cared so much
- 8:07Speaker 2: because it was just like, get the food on the
- 8:08Speaker 2: plates and shut up. But he wanted to make gourmet.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And we know that he got taught how to fight
- 8:18Speaker 2: the way that he does by his later mentor helped
- 8:23Speaker 2: me out with his name guys I've forgotten.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I don't know if he knew anything about fighting before that.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I feel like maybe not Zeh, thank you Sarah him
- 8:38Speaker 2: and all. Like what I'm wondering is, were they saying
- 8:43Speaker 2: to him, You've got to learn to be an assassin
- 8:46Speaker 2: and he was like, but I just want to cook
- 8:49Speaker 2: and they basically told him tough. Or did something happen
- 8:56Speaker 2: where he had to like escape because he was in
- 9:00Speaker 2: or somebody sent him away. There's just like, there's a
- 9:04Speaker 2: lot of potential directions that this could go in, and
- 9:11Speaker 2: there are times where I feel like, you know, something
- 9:16Speaker 2: feels like it maybe.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Has been retconned a little bit.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And then there are times where it seems pretty clear
- 9:23Speaker 2: Oda has known from the beginning what's going on and
- 9:27Speaker 2: what he wanted to do for me. This is hitting
- 9:31Speaker 2: as something that he has known the whole time that
- 9:34Speaker 2: he intended to do, And again, I really can't help
- 9:40Speaker 2: but respect it. You know, it's it is frankly, absolutely
- 9:51Speaker 2: fucking insane how long it takes to get to this
- 9:57Speaker 2: part of the story though, and that that's the part
- 10:00Speaker 2: that I am really curious about, is like how what's
- 10:07Speaker 2: the word I want here? Not exactly did you decide
- 10:12Speaker 2: to wait this long? Because I don't even know if
- 10:17Speaker 2: it's a decision or if it's like the opportunity just
- 10:20Speaker 2: hadn't presented itself and it wasn't urgent, or did he
- 10:24Speaker 2: have a plan the whole time on exactly when he
- 10:26Speaker 2: was going to drop this, or you know what I'm saying,
- 10:30Speaker 2: Like there's because the way that Oda is telling a
- 10:34Speaker 2: story in this show is so incredibly different than any
- 10:40Speaker 2: other author that I have encountered. Not to say he's
- 10:44Speaker 2: different than any other author period, because I know that
- 10:48Speaker 2: there are other manga authors and other people who have
- 10:51Speaker 2: been doing this sort of thing, and I get that,
- 10:54Speaker 2: but I personally, this is my first.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Other than uh, what do you call it?
- 11:03Speaker 2: Full Metal Alchemist's Brotherhood? This is my first manga based anime.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Are there animes that aren't based on mangas guys? I
- 11:15Speaker 2: have to assume there are, but uh yeah, just sort
- 11:20Speaker 2: of anyway. I can't imagine having this kind of restraint.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I genuinely, how do you play the game this long
- 11:36Speaker 2: and and like.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Not lose your mind?
- 11:41Speaker 2: How do you tell any story and take as long
- 11:45Speaker 2: as he does to get to the beats. I this
- 11:49Speaker 2: is not a criticism. It's just such a long game.
- 11:57Speaker 2: And there are other stories out there that take books
- 12:01Speaker 2: and books and books to unfold. And when you look
- 12:06Speaker 2: at the publishing time, it's spans of you know, decades sometimes,
- 12:12Speaker 2: So that's this is not like necessarily a new concept.
- 12:18Speaker 2: But there is something different about it here, you know
- 12:21Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 12:22Speaker 3: It's just like.
- 12:25Speaker 2: It's it is. So it requires a type of like consistent,
- 12:30Speaker 2: constant dedication that I won't say I'm not capable of
- 12:35Speaker 2: because I've been doing Unspoiled for twelve years longer now maybe,
- 12:42Speaker 2: and I have been recording pretty much NonStop that entire time,
- 12:46Speaker 2: with some you know, some little vacations and whatnot in there,
- 12:49Speaker 2: which is more than ODA did for sure. But nevertheless,
- 12:53Speaker 2: so I know I am capable of it. But it's
- 12:56Speaker 2: really different for me. I don't feel kind of pressure
- 13:01Speaker 2: he must have been feeling, and I'm not working on
- 13:03Speaker 2: the same property the entire time. I'm jumping all over
- 13:06Speaker 2: the place. Like frankly, my job is sort of ideal
- 13:09Speaker 2: for me given my ADHD in that it's always new,
- 13:12Speaker 2: it's always changing, there's always a new property, there's always
- 13:14Speaker 2: a new episode or new chapters and something new is happening,
- 13:18Speaker 2: and I never feel bored. There are times where something
- 13:22Speaker 2: might be kind of hard to get through, but it's
- 13:25Speaker 2: never that I'm bored, you know, And I can't help.
- 13:28Speaker 2: But wonder does he run into that? With this going
- 13:31Speaker 2: on for so long, does he ever have times where
- 13:34Speaker 2: he's like, ugh, everybody is so obsessed with one piece,
- 13:38Speaker 2: and I am sick of this and I would love
- 13:41Speaker 2: to be able to just like drop it, take on
- 13:44Speaker 2: something else, hand it over to another person. You know,
- 13:47Speaker 2: I'm very curious about it, and it's the sort of
- 13:51Speaker 2: thing that I just don't think if I were him,
- 13:54Speaker 2: I would ever be honest with anybody about if the
- 13:57Speaker 2: answer were yes, you can can't let your audience know
- 14:02Speaker 2: that you are sick and tired of writing the thing
- 14:06Speaker 2: they all love and want more of, because it really
- 14:09Speaker 2: takes the fun out of it as somebody consuming media
- 14:13Speaker 2: to know that the person responsible for it isn't having
- 14:16Speaker 2: a good time. So you really can't tell the truth
- 14:21Speaker 2: if even if you do feel that way anyway, So uh,
- 14:28Speaker 2: Sarah says, and Oda thought the whole story would only
- 14:31Speaker 2: take about five years to tell when he started tons
- 14:35Speaker 2: of everything. Oh, regarding anime that are not manga, one
- 14:39Speaker 2: Piece is rather unique since all the other long running
- 14:41Speaker 2: shown in anime are infamous for clearly having no idea
- 14:44Speaker 2: where to go at some point and clearly just making
- 14:46Speaker 2: things up as they go. Florien says, consistency is key
- 14:50Speaker 2: and lots of things in life, and recently it has
- 14:53Speaker 2: been like spelled out for me that that is such
- 14:57Speaker 2: an issue for people with ADHD is the consistency. And
- 15:04Speaker 2: a friend of mine said, I really wish instead of
- 15:06Speaker 2: calling it attention deficit disorder, that they called it attention
- 15:09Speaker 2: dysregulation because.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I don't lack attention.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I just don't get to choose where I'm putting that attention,
- 15:16Speaker 2: which is exactly right. I will pay attention like a motherfucker,
- 15:21Speaker 2: but I don't pick. It's whatever happens to catch my fancy,
- 15:25Speaker 2: and then I'm gone for a month and everything else
- 15:28Speaker 2: gets neglected, and it's like genuinely painful to focus on
- 15:32Speaker 2: things that require my attention from day to day instead
- 15:36Speaker 2: of the thing that I want. Sarahim says, no one
- 15:41Speaker 2: lives One Piece more than Ishiro Oda. This guy has
- 15:45Speaker 2: to be forced to take breaks because he can and
- 15:47Speaker 2: has worked himself into exhaustion trying to tell a story.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Is it because he wants to do that, It's not
- 15:54Speaker 2: because he's like being pressured to do that. I feel
- 15:59Speaker 2: like every time I've heard people talk about this, the
- 16:01Speaker 2: implication was that it was his evil overlord's making him
- 16:06Speaker 2: do things that overworked him. So I don't know. Like,
- 16:14Speaker 2: and when I say when I heard people talk about this,
- 16:18Speaker 2: I am including like in the chats here as well
- 16:22Speaker 2: as like comments on some social media posts and stuff
- 16:26Speaker 2: that were nonspoilery. I promise I haven't been spoiled by
- 16:30Speaker 2: any comments anywhere. But I just have always been under
- 16:38Speaker 2: the impression there was an unrealistic expectation of him, and
- 16:45Speaker 2: not that it was like he was necessarily in a vacuum,
- 16:49Speaker 2: such a workaholic. But I don't I genuinely, all I
- 16:52Speaker 2: know is what you guys have told me. So Seraphim says,
- 16:56Speaker 2: being a manga author is a terrible thing mostly and
- 16:59Speaker 2: it is infamous for the pressure. But Oda is the
- 17:01Speaker 2: rare case of someone who is that driven on his own. Well,
- 17:04Speaker 2: you know what, as much as I want to be
- 17:07Speaker 2: like Oda, that's not healthy. I at least am glad
- 17:13Speaker 2: it's something that he has his own passion about, because
- 17:16Speaker 2: like what I always think of is Agatha Christie, who
- 17:21Speaker 2: everybody loved Pooro and she was so sick of writing
- 17:25Speaker 2: him and it was what sold, and it was what
- 17:28Speaker 2: her publishers kept like pressuring her to write, and so
- 17:30Speaker 2: she did. But by the time she finished with that series,
- 17:34Speaker 2: she was like, I am so I hate that little
- 17:37Speaker 2: creepy man. I fucking I'm over it. And it always
- 17:41Speaker 2: made me sad to know that she reached a point
- 17:43Speaker 2: where she felt like that with that character, because Poorot
- 17:46Speaker 2: is just one of my faves, and I get why
- 17:48Speaker 2: she'd feel that way, but also, it's you just created
- 17:54Speaker 2: somebody so compelling.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 17:57Speaker 2: It's not my fault that you were so good at
- 17:58Speaker 2: your job. Anyway, Okay, I gotta get into this, so
- 18:05Speaker 2: let's see. Lufy at the start of this episode says,
- 18:09Speaker 2: only one thing matters here, is Sonji coming back to
- 18:13Speaker 2: us or not. It doesn't matter to me if he
- 18:15Speaker 2: gets married. And I feel like it had been pretty
- 18:20Speaker 2: clear that he said he was going to come back,
- 18:25Speaker 2: And of course I know that there may be wishful
- 18:31Speaker 2: thinking in that or you know, but Loufy usually takes
- 18:35Speaker 2: things at face value, so I sort of expected for
- 18:38Speaker 2: him to be like he said he's coming back, then
- 18:40Speaker 2: he's coming back. I thought that he would be much
- 18:43Speaker 2: less anxious about this, I guess. And Lufy also says,
- 18:52Speaker 2: if Big Mom thinks that we're going to work for
- 18:54Speaker 2: her due to this marriage, by the way, she's got
- 18:58Speaker 2: another thing coming. If there is an alliance between us,
- 19:03Speaker 2: you're working under us, at which point Peckham's is so
- 19:11Speaker 2: shocked and appalled at the absolute gull of this literal
- 19:17Speaker 2: child that he bounces around in the bed as if
- 19:22Speaker 2: he's been picked up and tossed around. It's a very
- 19:25Speaker 2: puzzling moment. I'm not gonna lie, guys. It felt very weird.
- 19:30Speaker 2: But you know, he uh, he's injuring himself more. And
- 19:39Speaker 2: Peckham's like, he stands up finally and says, you'd better
- 19:43Speaker 2: watch that tongue because I'll wreck you. And we get
- 19:48Speaker 2: this weird moment where the focus on his eyes with
- 19:52Speaker 2: like zoom in and there's lots of little sparkles on
- 19:56Speaker 2: his eyes because he's lifted his weird little sunglasses his
- 19:59Speaker 2: point he sunglasses, and it was really reminding me of
- 20:08Speaker 2: Millhouse from from The Simpsons. I don't know if you
- 20:12Speaker 2: guys remember this joke, but at one point somebody tells him, like,
- 20:16Speaker 2: take off your glasses so we can see your beautiful eyes.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And he takes his glasses off, and they are just
- 20:20Speaker 2: two little piss holes, basically, And that's what this guy's
- 20:24Speaker 2: got going on here. He has these awesome shades and
- 20:27Speaker 2: then he lifts his glasses and he's got just two perfect,
- 20:30Speaker 2: tiny dots. But yeah, he has not dealt with Lufy before,
- 20:36Speaker 2: and so he's trying to challenge Lufy and just be like,
- 20:39Speaker 2: did you really say that? And of course we have
- 20:42Speaker 2: a more of him rolling around in pain. There's this
- 20:47Speaker 2: weird sort of sound effect that I think maybe is
- 20:49Speaker 2: supposed to be him like popping a stitch or something
- 20:53Speaker 2: like that, and Carrot is in the background cracking up
- 20:58Speaker 2: over this. Carrot is sort of a weird character for me.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I thought that she'd be more a part of stuff
- 21:06Speaker 2: because of the way that she began in this arc,
- 21:11Speaker 2: and she's been pretty background a lot of the time,
- 21:13Speaker 2: and she's treated as younger in a lot of ways
- 21:17Speaker 2: than I was imagining her to be. But yeah, she's
- 21:23Speaker 2: just sort of like around for this scene and Peckham says,
- 21:27Speaker 2: either way, he's not getting out of this marriage. Blackleg
- 21:32Speaker 2: had the right idea giving himself up. No one can
- 21:35Speaker 2: turn down an invitation to one of Mama's tea parties,
- 21:38Speaker 2: no matter what the reason might be. Nobody puts Mama
- 21:41Speaker 2: to shame, not without paying the price. A couple days
- 21:45Speaker 2: after they don't show at the party, they Mama's would
- 21:50Speaker 2: be guessed gets a surprise present. It's a loved one's
- 21:55Speaker 2: head in a box which is truly unhinged, and he
- 22:07Speaker 2: names a bunch of different people from Sanji's history that
- 22:12Speaker 2: Big Mom could potentially choose to decapitate. And it's interesting
- 22:18Speaker 2: to me how much of his history they are aware of.
- 22:25Speaker 2: He says, it might be one of his pals from
- 22:27Speaker 2: the restaurant, or she could kill someone in Kambaka Kingdom
- 22:33Speaker 2: who trained him. Came Obaca sorry and yeah, Big Mama
- 22:40Speaker 2: is uh.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Formidable.
- 22:44Speaker 2: I really kind of want to spend some more time
- 22:46Speaker 2: around her and see if there is something I The
- 22:52Speaker 2: villains in this show have often been kind of one
- 22:59Speaker 2: note isn't the right word, but there has been a
- 23:02Speaker 2: very strong kind of through line to their personalities and
- 23:11Speaker 2: the most that we have sort of like gotten deviation
- 23:15Speaker 2: from that has really been with their sidekicks more than
- 23:20Speaker 2: with themselves, and this sort of thing feels on par
- 23:28Speaker 2: for the kinds of villains that we have met before.
- 23:32Speaker 2: And I'm just sort of wondering if there's going to
- 23:35Speaker 2: be anything about her other than what her business is,
- 23:40Speaker 2: because it's candy that feels distinctive and really different, like
- 23:46Speaker 2: other than the esthetic due to it being candy, you
- 23:49Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. But yeah, I I this moment.
- 23:57Speaker 2: You know, it's not that it's it's like not threatening,
- 24:01Speaker 2: and it is treated as threatening, and it is treated
- 24:05Speaker 2: that like probably when somebody who leaned over and whispered
- 24:10Speaker 2: in Sangy's ear and made him go to this tea party,
- 24:14Speaker 2: they likely told him, unless you want one of your
- 24:17Speaker 2: loved ones heads delivered in the mail, you want to go.
- 24:20Speaker 2: So it's effective, it's it's intimidating, but it is also
- 24:26Speaker 2: a little bit uninteresting, I guess, and I hope there's
- 24:33Speaker 2: more to her than this, But it's difficult because you
- 24:38Speaker 2: need to make your person intimidating, and you also have
- 24:42Speaker 2: got to sort of draw out that time before the
- 24:46Speaker 2: audience gets to meet them and it's a fine like
- 24:51Speaker 2: it's a it's a difficult needle to thread because you
- 24:55Speaker 2: want to build up the intimidation factor, but you also
- 25:00Speaker 2: don't want to make it that there's no way for
- 25:03Speaker 2: them to actually really live up to the hype of
- 25:07Speaker 2: the people who came before. They're they're harbingers and lickspittles
- 25:15Speaker 2: and henchmen, you know. And we've seen Big Mom on
- 25:19Speaker 2: the phone, right, We've like, she hasn't been like out
- 25:24Speaker 2: and about, I don't think, but we've seen her in
- 25:27Speaker 2: a sort of like silhouette before. I'm just sort of
- 25:33Speaker 2: I'm a little worried, you guys, because I don't find
- 25:38Speaker 2: her that interesting yet, and I don't, like, I don't
- 25:45Speaker 2: feel real worried about her in a way that I
- 25:49Speaker 2: feel I should. All things considered, this ruthlessness, we've seen
- 25:56Speaker 2: it before, you know what I'm saying. So any way, Yeah,
- 26:01Speaker 2: he continues on with like this is why no one
- 26:05Speaker 2: can fight the four emperors and why everybody bows down
- 26:07Speaker 2: to her, and Nami says, so, Soanji knew the stakes,
- 26:14Speaker 2: he didn't go by choice, and Peckham says, maybe this
- 26:20Speaker 2: will put you at ease for what it's worth. Once
- 26:23Speaker 2: this plays out, you won't be forced to work under mama,
- 26:28Speaker 2: and he says the marriage is strictly political. If Mama
- 26:32Speaker 2: wants someone to be a part of her crew, she
- 26:35Speaker 2: wants them to be a part of her bloodline as well.
- 26:38Speaker 2: In other words, this marriage is a ritual to forge
- 26:41Speaker 2: a bond between the vin Smoke family and the Charlotte family.
- 26:45Speaker 2: That is all so from this point on, it's got
- 26:48Speaker 2: nothing to do with you guys. Basically, he's saying you
- 26:56Speaker 2: aren't going to have to worry about Sony because he's
- 27:00Speaker 2: not even going to be part of your crew anymore.
- 27:04Speaker 2: He's going to be part of her crew due to
- 27:08Speaker 2: the bloodline thing and marrying in. He's the son of
- 27:13Speaker 2: the vin Smoke family before he is one of your crew.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Don't get mad at me, saying to Loofy because Lufy
- 27:21Speaker 2: is picking him up by the front of the shirt
- 27:22Speaker 2: and tosses him off the bed, and Lufy says there's
- 27:27Speaker 2: no way that he would agree to that with those terms,
- 27:34Speaker 2: and he says, well maybe not, but he wouldn't live
- 27:36Speaker 2: long after saying no. So Lufy says, what are you
- 27:42Speaker 2: going to do after this? And he says, well, I'm
- 27:45Speaker 2: going to go back to Mama. But I have to
- 27:48Speaker 2: settle that thing with beij He'll be surprised to see
- 27:51Speaker 2: I'm not dead. I wish we could just call him Capoon,
- 27:53Speaker 2: because Beije I don't like at all.
- 27:58Speaker 3: And Lufy is like, all right, I'm gonna go with you.
- 28:02Speaker 3: If we all.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Go and try and get him out of there, it
- 28:06Speaker 2: will look like we're starting a war and we don't
- 28:08Speaker 2: have time for a big fight. But I can crash
- 28:12Speaker 2: the party by myself if I go with this guy.
- 28:15Speaker 2: All I need to do is stop the wedding.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Now.
- 28:21Speaker 2: I maybe out a line here, but this doesn't really
- 28:23Speaker 2: feel in character for me. I understand what Lufy is saying,
- 28:28Speaker 2: that's not the issue. But Lufy just doesn't seem like
- 28:32Speaker 2: he's ever given any shits about tactics, you know what
- 28:40Speaker 2: I'm saying. It's always felt for me like.
- 28:44Speaker 1: We are.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Doing the big thing that saves our friend, whether or
- 28:50Speaker 2: not they want us there. And it's just surprising to me,
- 28:58Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying that like he seems this
- 29:01Speaker 2: willing to uh to consider a more subtle option. I
- 29:11Speaker 2: guess that's really what it is. It feels much more
- 29:18Speaker 2: nuanced than the thinking that I am used to from Loofy,
- 29:25Speaker 2: Saraphim says, don't take silhouettes too seriously. Most of the time.
- 29:29Speaker 2: It's a case of Oda hasn't finalized what he wants
- 29:31Speaker 2: their look to be. Okay, I don't even really remember
- 29:35Speaker 2: her silhouette too much, to be honest, so that's really
- 29:37Speaker 2: even not a problem. Bernadette's here, Hi, Bernadette, and Florence's
- 29:44Speaker 2: thank you. I hate Benje. I mean the name. Yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 2: it's not a good name.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I'm sure like.
- 29:49Speaker 2: There's meaning to it of some kind that I don't
- 29:52Speaker 2: know about. But I mean, just Capone is just so
- 29:54Speaker 2: much more memorable and uh succinct, and it feels like
- 30:01Speaker 2: it's a very clear indicator of the type of character
- 30:05Speaker 2: that he is. Don't use such a recognizable name as
- 30:11Speaker 2: Capone anywhere in the rest of his name and then
- 30:15Speaker 2: not have that be the way he's referred to by everybody.
- 30:19Speaker 2: It's just sort of confusing. But anyway, this is when
- 30:25Speaker 2: Carrot says this sounds like fun, and Wanda says, Carrot,
- 30:29Speaker 2: this isn't some joke, and this is what I mean
- 30:31Speaker 2: with her like being treated like she's a kid almost here.
- 30:38Speaker 2: So Lufy decides that he is going to go get
- 30:41Speaker 2: Chopper to heal Peckham's and that way they will be
- 30:43Speaker 2: able to get on the road really quick. Peckhams tries
- 30:46Speaker 2: to like hail him back and.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Be like, I'm not done. We're not going. I didn't
- 30:53Speaker 3: agree to do this.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Lufy's already gone, and he runs into Zorro and like, hey,
- 31:00Speaker 2: did you hear about this wedding stuff? And he says,
- 31:03Speaker 2: you're worried about Sanji and Zorro says, come on, of
- 31:08Speaker 2: course I'm not. I'm the one who said we should
- 31:11Speaker 2: forget about him. This is when Chopper and company all
- 31:17Speaker 2: arrived back, and he tells he tells Chopper like he's
- 31:24Speaker 2: starting to bleed. He's you know, up and about bashing
- 31:27Speaker 2: into stuff and yelling a lot, And immediately Chopper goes
- 31:33Speaker 2: in there and gets serious about handling him, and it's like,
- 31:38Speaker 2: you know, he puts all this work into fixing him,
- 31:41Speaker 2: only for this stupid asshole to get up and start
- 31:46Speaker 2: immediately bashing around.
- 31:48Speaker 3: And this seems to be a.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Theme with everybody like lately that Chopper is working on,
- 31:53Speaker 2: nobody wants to listen to him. Later on, kat Viper
- 31:57Speaker 2: is doing this exact same thing. So this is when
- 32:05Speaker 2: Loufy meets cat Viper and he calls him a monster cat,
- 32:09Speaker 2: and I was sort of like wondering, is he gonna
- 32:12Speaker 2: be cranky about this? But no, Cat Viper just seems delighted.
- 32:17Speaker 2: And he literally takes a flying leap at Loofy and
- 32:23Speaker 2: lands on him and Zorro and smashes the bench that
- 32:29Speaker 2: Zora was sitting on. And when I say takes a
- 32:32Speaker 2: flying leap, I do not mean like to attack him.
- 32:35Speaker 2: He's doing that body rub gartoe friendship thing but not
- 32:44Speaker 2: considering what all the effect is going to be. So
- 32:52Speaker 2: this dude is truly fantastic. I just love him so much.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I just wanted to say that, like, out of the gate,
- 33:03Speaker 2: cat Viper is a real pleasant surprise, I guess is
- 33:11Speaker 2: really the way I want to say this, Like I
- 33:15Speaker 2: didn't know what to expect from him, and the fact
- 33:19Speaker 2: that him and dog Storm are at odds with each
- 33:22Speaker 2: other all the time. I thought it was going to
- 33:24Speaker 2: mean that, like one of them is going to be
- 33:27Speaker 2: significantly more annoying in some way than the other, and
- 33:31Speaker 2: instead it seems like there's an animosity there that neither
- 33:38Speaker 2: of them really deserves. It doesn't feel to me like
- 33:46Speaker 2: there's I don't know if it's just that cat Viper
- 33:49Speaker 2: is so much less thoughtful because Dogstorm is the more
- 33:53Speaker 2: serious of the two and seems to be the one
- 33:57Speaker 2: that's like more cerebral. I suppose could be the way
- 34:03Speaker 2: you say that, uh, and cat Vipers like somebody who
- 34:12Speaker 2: does things more impetuously. Maybe that's where they wind up
- 34:19Speaker 2: sort of bumping heads. Is that in that respect? But
- 34:25Speaker 2: part of this says monster Cat is a way more
- 34:27Speaker 2: reasonable name than cat Viper, which I agree, cat Vip
- 34:31Speaker 2: like dog Storm, while it's not really a good name,
- 34:37Speaker 2: let's be honest, it at least kind of makes sense
- 34:41Speaker 2: in its way. There's this there's definitely a feeling of like, okay,
- 34:47Speaker 2: well a storm of flying claws and jaws and whatnot,
- 34:54Speaker 2: Like I understand, I can. It's evocative, right, it's making
- 34:58Speaker 2: me think of something that's could be threatening. Cat Viper
- 35:03Speaker 2: is just confusing. That's just a weird combo and also
- 35:08Speaker 2: doesn't suit him as a character at all, Like any
- 35:13Speaker 2: if anything, this character should be cat Storm because he's
- 35:20Speaker 2: fucking like chaotic, whereas dog Storm is a lot more
- 35:27Speaker 2: It seems to me, from what I know of them,
- 35:29Speaker 2: so far intentional about what he does and is like
- 35:34Speaker 2: focused and choosing in a way that storm doesn't really.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Suit, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I would say more he's like an arrow or what's
- 35:47Speaker 2: something a laser dog laser That just sounds like a toy. Anyway,
- 35:54Speaker 2: Seraphim says, like a lot of the worst generation pirates,
- 35:57Speaker 2: Beije is a reference to a historical pirate slash privateer,
- 36:02Speaker 2: I'm sure, but it's not the name that like makes
- 36:07Speaker 2: you go, oh hey, you know it's capone is the
- 36:11Speaker 2: name everybody is going to recognize. It just feels like
- 36:13Speaker 2: such a weird choice. They fight like cats and dogs,
- 36:19Speaker 2: which it's you know what, in my household, it is
- 36:24Speaker 2: like that our cats and dogs, you know what I say.
- 36:27Speaker 2: This one of my cats has been really making headway
- 36:33Speaker 2: in with Pippen, so I shouldn't even say that. Both
- 36:37Speaker 2: Ariya and Ripley really like Pippen, but not Arwin, not
- 36:44Speaker 2: at all. So yeah, she there goes a dog storm there. Yeah.
- 36:53Speaker 2: So anyway, this dude is very much like on the
- 37:01Speaker 2: same wavelength as Loofy because he is like, we need
- 37:05Speaker 2: to throw a party. Let's make some barbecue and have
- 37:08Speaker 2: a good time, and it is a delightful little sequence.
- 37:14Speaker 2: You guys know that I am always a fan of
- 37:17Speaker 2: when our people get to just sit back and have
- 37:19Speaker 2: a good time with each other. And there's also the
- 37:24Speaker 2: moment where Law shows up and he's got all of
- 37:27Speaker 2: his guys with him and they thank Lufy for taking
- 37:31Speaker 2: care of their captain. He says, you know, here's all
- 37:34Speaker 2: my dudes. They really wanted to meet you. The Heart pirates,
- 37:39Speaker 2: and there are twenty of them. They're all doing all
- 37:41Speaker 2: these different poses too. It's really weird. And also we
- 37:48Speaker 2: have more of Brooke getting attacked by a bunch of
- 37:54Speaker 2: the minx. I really hate this joke, guys. I know,
- 37:59Speaker 2: I get what we're doing. I do, but I just
- 38:04Speaker 2: I really feel bad for him.
- 38:09Speaker 3: He's not having a good time, you know, Like that's
- 38:16Speaker 3: really what it is.
- 38:17Speaker 2: It's like if this were the joke and Brooke were
- 38:20Speaker 2: just sort of like resigned and exasperated and just sort
- 38:25Speaker 2: of going like as they like chew on one of
- 38:27Speaker 2: his bones, then I'd probably be like, oh, okay, I see.
- 38:33Speaker 2: But he's like yelling and screaming and trying to get
- 38:36Speaker 2: away from them, and it just feels terrible to me.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I don't like it. It's a kind of like, I
- 38:43Speaker 2: feel like, maybe we could have made this joke a
- 38:45Speaker 2: few times and had it be that all of the
- 38:50Speaker 2: like the the ones the dog minks that are trying
- 38:53Speaker 2: to chew on him, maybe keep having to like remind
- 38:56Speaker 2: themselves like the fisher friends not food sharks from Oh
- 39:03Speaker 2: my God, Finding Nemo. Maybe if it were that and
- 39:08Speaker 2: it were the they were clearly constantly tempted, but they
- 39:11Speaker 2: also understood that it was not appropriate. That joke I
- 39:17Speaker 2: could have dealt with. But it's just the fact that
- 39:20Speaker 2: it's like every time that he is around them, he's
- 39:24Speaker 2: pounced upon by a fucking pile of them. They're literally
- 39:30Speaker 2: dog piling him. I just really I don't like it.
- 39:33Speaker 2: It makes me, said, I.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Like Brooks so much, you know what I'm saying, I
- 39:38Speaker 3: really do.
- 39:40Speaker 2: So it makes me like I want him to be
- 39:44Speaker 2: able to cut loose and enjoy himself with everybody in
- 39:47Speaker 2: the same way they all get to do, although I
- 39:52Speaker 2: guess they don't all get to do, because like half
- 39:55Speaker 2: the thing here is that we've got a thing going
- 39:57Speaker 2: on with the uh Samurai. So anyway, let's say I'm
- 40:05Speaker 2: trying to find the spot where there it is okay.
- 40:09Speaker 2: So at the end of this episode is when Lofy
- 40:13Speaker 2: is looking around in the midst of the party and
- 40:16Speaker 2: he's thinking like, I'm really hoping that this that I'm
- 40:21Speaker 2: not forgetting something, And then we cut to Brooke, Frankie,
- 40:27Speaker 2: and Robin, who are all determined that they are going
- 40:32Speaker 2: to stop the Samurai from getting up into the city
- 40:38Speaker 2: because they are worried about the reaction of the Minx
- 40:42Speaker 2: to seeing samurai after their city was destroyed by people
- 40:48Speaker 2: looking for a Samurai. So, for those who are listening
- 40:53Speaker 2: to this episode after the fact, please allow me to
- 40:56Speaker 2: briefly get you up to speed on what's just happened.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I was talking and then all of a sudden, my
- 41:04Speaker 2: screen just began to give me a little spin and
- 41:07Speaker 2: it wouldn't let me end the broadcast, but it also
- 41:10Speaker 2: said I had no internet, and my internet did not
- 41:14Speaker 2: come back for about eight hours, so I was about
- 41:19Speaker 2: forty five minutes in and had to stop. So it
- 41:24Speaker 2: has now been I think.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Almost a week since.
- 41:31Speaker 2: That occurred, and tomorrow I'm going to be doing a
- 41:35Speaker 2: live with Florian again, which I'm very excited about. And
- 41:39Speaker 2: Florian messaged me I was just thinking last night. Ooh,
- 41:42Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to do like a catch up episode tomorrow,
- 41:44Speaker 2: and Floria messaged me this morning and was like, hey,
- 41:46Speaker 2: so about that last fifteen minutes. So I'm just popping
- 41:50Speaker 2: on real quick to record for like fifteen twenty minutes
- 41:54Speaker 2: to finish out the previous episode. And I say pre
- 42:00Speaker 2: episode because listening to this this is all part of
- 42:02Speaker 2: the same episode. You just have to understand that. For me,
- 42:05Speaker 2: it's been a week since what I was last saying.
- 42:07Speaker 2: So if I wind up repeating myself, please just bear
- 42:10Speaker 2: with me. You guys, you know how it can be sometimes.
- 42:15Speaker 3: But yeah, I.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Went and rewatched the second half of the last episode,
- 42:25Speaker 2: and I just because I just wanted to refresh myself
- 42:28Speaker 2: on like the overall vibe, which by the way, is
- 42:33Speaker 2: seven sixty seven. I will be recording with Florian tomorrow
- 42:37Speaker 2: on correct me if I'm not If I'm wrong here, Florian,
- 42:41Speaker 2: it's three episodes, right, so seven sixty eight through seven seventy,
- 42:45Speaker 2: which I obviously have not yet watched because I didn't
- 42:49Speaker 2: want to do that until I finished recording on this section.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Florian says, yes, three, okay, great.
- 42:55Speaker 3: So what I I.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Just went back on my own recording a little bit
- 43:01Speaker 2: to see where I had been when I was recording
- 43:04Speaker 2: and it went out, and I was starting to sense
- 43:07Speaker 2: something was wrong. So there you could hear me being
- 43:11Speaker 2: a little distracted. But uh, I was saying that I
- 43:17Speaker 2: was having some really mixed feelings at this point in
- 43:20Speaker 2: the episode. Honestly, I had the feelings like from the beginning,
- 43:25Speaker 2: but I didn't really bring it up too much because
- 43:28Speaker 2: I wasn't sure how big a deal this was really
- 43:32Speaker 2: going to end up being the constant like, don't mention Samurai,
- 43:37Speaker 2: don't mention that we know any all of this stuff.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I understood why our friends were feeling that way, but
- 43:45Speaker 2: it just seemed to me so strange to assume just
- 43:51Speaker 2: because we like know some Samurai and they happened to
- 43:54Speaker 2: be with us, they are going to be really upset
- 43:58Speaker 2: by that. And you know, I think that my takeaway
- 44:02Speaker 2: was just everybody isn't logical. We have very emotional reactions
- 44:08Speaker 2: to things, even when we know better, you know, even
- 44:11Speaker 2: when internally we kind of tell ourselves, why am I
- 44:15Speaker 2: getting so upset about this? Why am I reacting this way?
- 44:19Speaker 2: I think that's something that you get a little bit
- 44:21Speaker 2: better at. I want to say as you get older.
- 44:24Speaker 2: But that's not true. Some people don't ever seem to
- 44:27Speaker 2: get to this point. But I like to think that, like,
- 44:30Speaker 2: as therapy is becoming more of an understood thing, and
- 44:33Speaker 2: as we are encouraging ourselves and one another to interrogate
- 44:41Speaker 2: our reactions to things a little bit more, we are
- 44:44Speaker 2: gradually beginning to open the door to a world that
- 44:47Speaker 2: has a bit more introspection and a bit more compassion
- 44:55Speaker 2: for other people's responses to things as well. I can
- 44:59Speaker 2: watch somebody in like they are really not using their
- 45:02Speaker 2: head right now with the way they're feeling, and also
- 45:05Speaker 2: step back and look at the many times that I
- 45:08Speaker 2: also didn't use my head, and remember they are a
- 45:11Speaker 2: human being and sometimes shit just hits you a certain way,
- 45:15Speaker 2: you know. So that said the whole like, don't ever
- 45:22Speaker 2: talk about samurai, don't ever talk about their kingdom which
- 45:26Speaker 2: starts with a W. And I'm forgetting already what it is,
- 45:28Speaker 2: even though they just said it when I watched the episode,
- 45:31Speaker 2: I think it's one, oh right, I still kind of
- 45:36Speaker 2: felt like nobody has gone back and told the two
- 45:41Speaker 2: Samurai that are with you that this is a problem,
- 45:45Speaker 2: and nobody, like we have our friends who are sitting
- 45:49Speaker 2: at the top of the cliff, and I say, cliff,
- 45:53Speaker 2: it's the side of the elephant. It's not a cliff,
- 45:56Speaker 2: but we have them sitting there, trying to prep them,
- 45:59Speaker 2: to warn them. But I do kind of wish that, like,
- 46:06Speaker 2: if they were as worried as they were, that this
- 46:11Speaker 2: was taken care of a little bit more proactively than
- 46:15Speaker 2: to just wait for them to come up. And this
- 46:18Speaker 2: is the thing that I keep having difficulty with regarding
- 46:21Speaker 2: the way powers work in this show, where we will
- 46:26Speaker 2: forget that somebody has powers to do certain things because
- 46:32Speaker 2: it's not convenient for them to do them right now. So,
- 46:35Speaker 2: like Robin's ability with being able to make arms pop
- 46:39Speaker 2: out from anywhere would be absolutely perfect for just lowering
- 46:45Speaker 2: her down the side of the elephant and warning the
- 46:47Speaker 2: samuraig eyes, and then she could either go back up
- 46:52Speaker 2: again by herself, she could bring them and hide them
- 46:55Speaker 2: somewhere whatever. Now, granted, all of this is predicated on
- 46:59Speaker 2: the idea that we really do want to keep the
- 47:01Speaker 2: Samurai away from the minks. Obviously, the way that the
- 47:05Speaker 2: plot is structured is everything happens so that the minks
- 47:10Speaker 2: pass bypassed the straw hats and that way we can
- 47:15Speaker 2: get this like shocking moment. But I wouldn't have been
- 47:21Speaker 2: mad if the Samurai were like, no, no, no, it's
- 47:26Speaker 2: not like that, you don't understand. And there were a
- 47:29Speaker 2: little bit more friction between them and the straw Hats
- 47:32Speaker 2: in a way that involves communication rather than just everybody
- 47:37Speaker 2: yelling at each other, which is what winds up happening,
- 47:40Speaker 2: is that the straw hats like tackle them and tell them, like,
- 47:44Speaker 2: you don't get what happened here, and they thought there
- 47:47Speaker 2: was a samurai and destroyed their entire city that had
- 47:50Speaker 2: been like thousands of years old. And it's weird, all
- 47:57Speaker 2: things considered that neither of the samurai actually really says
- 48:01Speaker 2: but we know these guys, we are aware of what's
- 48:04Speaker 2: going on here. They never actually spell it out, and
- 48:06Speaker 2: I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that they
- 48:08Speaker 2: don't really know or you know what I'm saying, Like
- 48:13Speaker 2: it just it felt like everything had to be contrived
- 48:19Speaker 2: in just such a way so that we could have
- 48:23Speaker 2: this shocking moment of finding out that the minks actually
- 48:26Speaker 2: did have this dude, And I think there's a way
- 48:30Speaker 2: to do this where you can still arrive at the
- 48:32Speaker 2: shocking twist without it feeling so I'm trying to think
- 48:40Speaker 2: of the right word here without feeling like you have
- 48:42Speaker 2: to twist everybody's behavior so much, you know what I'm saying.
- 48:47Speaker 2: All that said, I really really did love this twist.
- 48:53Speaker 2: This is a wild and I just the fact that,
- 48:58Speaker 2: like the second of these two episodes opens with or
- 49:04Speaker 2: maybe doesn't open, but at least like part way through
- 49:07Speaker 2: the scene where we are with the Minx and the
- 49:10Speaker 2: Samurai are hiding, we have got dog Storm and cat Viper.
- 49:19Speaker 3: I was about to.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Say Viper cat, which I kind of prefer actually, but
- 49:24Speaker 2: we have the two of them just like insulting each other,
- 49:27Speaker 2: and then like I think, dog Storm says to cat Viper,
- 49:33Speaker 2: you look like shit basically, and cat Vipers like, excuse me, mister,
- 49:38Speaker 2: I only have one leg. But I don't really think
- 49:41Speaker 2: you should be throwing stones in that house made of
- 49:44Speaker 2: untempered glass that you are standing in. And I really
- 49:49Speaker 2: enjoy the fact that finding out they were covering for
- 49:53Speaker 2: this guy. After all, these two do not like each
- 49:58Speaker 2: other and do not get a lo but they are
- 50:01Speaker 2: unified in the fact that they would never give this
- 50:05Speaker 2: guy up. It doesn't matter how much they dislike one another,
- 50:09Speaker 2: that is absolutely irrelevant to the question of uh of
- 50:16Speaker 2: honor and pride and protection for a friend. And I
- 50:22Speaker 2: really do love a character who like has unmitigated hatred
- 50:28Speaker 2: for somebody, but also does their damn thing and sets
- 50:32Speaker 2: it aside, doesn't necessarily hide like setting aside does not
- 50:38Speaker 2: mean pretending I like somebody but is able to just
- 50:42Speaker 2: get on with it anyway, versus Zoro and Sanji, who
- 50:48Speaker 2: like they can get on with it if they are
- 50:50Speaker 2: not grouped together, but if they are within an eyeline
- 50:54Speaker 2: of one another while they're fighting, is always going to
- 50:56Speaker 2: be a whole thing. I swear to God, I just
- 51:00Speaker 2: really the whole way that the two of them work.
- 51:08Speaker 2: I don't think that we ever really get quite that
- 51:12Speaker 2: much detail about why they don't like each other. It's
- 51:14Speaker 2: just basically cats don't like dogs. You know, I would
- 51:19Speaker 2: be interested if there's more of a story to that,
- 51:21Speaker 2: But also if there isn't, it's fine. I don't you know,
- 51:23Speaker 2: that's fine. But yeah, So we have Condre and Kinemon
- 51:32Speaker 2: pushing past the straw hats who are desperately trying to
- 51:36Speaker 2: keep them away, and then you have the moment where
- 51:39Speaker 2: the two of them Cat Viper and dog Storm kneel
- 51:42Speaker 2: down and tell them, Oh, yeah, your friend's here, and
- 51:46Speaker 2: he's fine, he's very well, and all of the straw
- 51:52Speaker 2: hats just looking shocked. And I'll tell you what, guys,
- 51:55Speaker 2: I think part of the reason that this hits so
- 51:57Speaker 2: hard for me as well isn't just the fact that,
- 52:00Speaker 2: like it never even entered my head that this guy
- 52:04Speaker 2: was really here, straight up never occurred to me, but
- 52:08Speaker 2: also the fact that it took me a moment to
- 52:12Speaker 2: register what they were even saying here because the name
- 52:17Speaker 2: of the samurai they're looking for, whose name is.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Like Rio something like that.
- 52:22Speaker 2: It's one of those names that almost sounds like parts
- 52:27Speaker 2: of another word when it said the right way, ry
- 52:30Speaker 2: Soo says Florian So. I had a moment of like, wait,
- 52:34Speaker 2: who are they talking about? And then suddenly like clicking
- 52:39Speaker 2: into place, Wait, that's the guy they were looking for
- 52:41Speaker 2: this whole time.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Wait, that's the guy that Wait that but he's not here.
- 52:47Speaker 3: I thought he wasn't here.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Like it was just this sort of cascade of thoughts
- 52:51Speaker 2: in my head as I was understanding the import of
- 52:54Speaker 2: what they had just admitted. And this show I have
- 52:59Speaker 2: often and we'll continue complain about the fact that there
- 53:02Speaker 2: are these prolonged camera pans over everybody's faces as they
- 53:07Speaker 2: look shocked with their mouth hanging open, making strange noises
- 53:10Speaker 2: of excitement or despair or whatever. But this was one
- 53:14Speaker 2: of the few times where that slow pan actually gave
- 53:18Speaker 2: me the time to figure out what just happened. It
- 53:23Speaker 2: was that slow pan and seeing everybody else's shocked faces,
- 53:26Speaker 2: and I was like simultaneously seeing their faces and being like,
- 53:30Speaker 2: why are they acting this way?
- 53:32Speaker 1: Wait?
- 53:32Speaker 2: Who is it?
- 53:33Speaker 3: Riiso is here in good health? Riis Oh my god?
- 53:37Speaker 2: And then my face was doing the face that all
- 53:40Speaker 2: of the characters on screen were doing. And it was
- 53:42Speaker 2: just a really nice moment because like, I don't get
- 53:45Speaker 2: fooled often, you know. And I'm not trying to say
- 53:48Speaker 2: that I'm so smart. I'm just saying I cover so
- 53:52Speaker 2: much and I take such time in my coverage that
- 53:56Speaker 2: a lot of people don't take. When you're just binge
- 53:59Speaker 2: watching something and you go from one episode to another,
- 54:01Speaker 2: you're not stopping and asking questions, you're not talking things through,
- 54:04Speaker 2: you're not figuring out the beats of a plot necessarily,
- 54:09Speaker 2: And so just by virtue of the way that I
- 54:12Speaker 2: cover things for the show. It gets difficult to trick
- 54:17Speaker 2: me sometimes because I will clock things that an audience
- 54:21Speaker 2: member watching in the normal way doesn't clock, And whenever
- 54:28Speaker 2: I get tricked, I feel like they like somebody really
- 54:36Speaker 2: did something there, you know, and especially here my complaints
- 54:40Speaker 2: about the way that there's no communication between the straw
- 54:43Speaker 2: Hats and the Samurai, the fact that Robin could have
- 54:47Speaker 2: gone down, and more than all of this doesn't really
- 54:49Speaker 2: have anything to do really with the reveal of Riso
- 54:53Speaker 2: having been here the whole time, so it doesn't influence
- 54:56Speaker 2: how I feel about that twist at all. It just
- 54:59Speaker 2: feels like all of that stuff is sort of ancillary
- 55:03Speaker 2: and probably would have helped this feel a little bit
- 55:06Speaker 2: less of a tortured situation to begin with. But the
- 55:11Speaker 2: twist itself with watching them be tortured, watching the way
- 55:14Speaker 2: that they just to their almost dying breaths, swore this
- 55:19Speaker 2: person wasn't here, and absolutely believing them, and also feeling
- 55:26Speaker 2: like I can't believe these guys are continuing to torture them.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Can't they see these people aren't here. I'm definitely having
- 55:33Speaker 2: a moment of like, these dudes need to fucking move on, obviously,
- 55:38Speaker 2: you're in the wrong place. And finding out those just
- 55:42Speaker 2: were right actually like not good people and they shouldn't
- 55:46Speaker 2: have been doing this, but they knew this person was here,
- 55:50Speaker 2: they had good information changes the whole vibe of everything.
- 55:57Speaker 2: Florian says, I was shocked and in tears the first
- 55:59Speaker 2: time watching this, and now the minks have an A
- 56:02Speaker 2: plus plus in Lufy's book. Yeah, you can see the
- 56:05Speaker 2: moment where Lufy hears them say like, we're not fucking
- 56:08Speaker 2: a friend over and him just being like god, damn
- 56:11Speaker 2: right or not, like absolutely, Oh, that is his playbook,
- 56:16Speaker 2: you know, And it's very fun for him to not
- 56:21Speaker 2: have to explain to somebody because we're friends. He gets
- 56:24Speaker 2: to watch somebody else be like, well, we're friends and
- 56:29Speaker 2: find a kindred spirit.
- 56:31Speaker 1: You know.
- 56:32Speaker 2: I really enjoy that just for him, because there is
- 56:34Speaker 2: something about being an extremely good hearted person who wants
- 56:39Speaker 2: to look out for everybody else and how constantly disappointed
- 56:42Speaker 2: you probably are in the world when other people don't
- 56:45Speaker 2: have that attitude, and so it must be delightful to
- 56:48Speaker 2: come across an entire city's worth of people like It's
- 56:51Speaker 2: not as if there was a second there was a
- 56:53Speaker 2: mink that was off by himself being like, I'll tell
- 56:56Speaker 2: them and then I'll get all of this to stop.
- 56:58Speaker 2: If just if we just get Riso up, they would
- 57:01Speaker 2: leave us alone. Nobody seems to be thinking that way.
- 57:05Speaker 2: And I'm setting aside Peckham's because he's part of Big
- 57:08Speaker 2: Mama's crew and probably he would have betrayed everybody because
- 57:12Speaker 2: he seems like he doesn't have the same moral compass
- 57:14Speaker 2: that they do. But I also like to think that
- 57:15Speaker 2: he because he doesn't have the same moral compass he
- 57:18Speaker 2: left that like the fact that he has gone and
- 57:21Speaker 2: made his own life away from this city means that
- 57:25Speaker 2: he didn't fit in, you know. So the fact that
- 57:28Speaker 2: they were all on board here and we're willing to
- 57:32Speaker 2: let this ancient city that meant so much to them
- 57:35Speaker 2: be destroyed the way that it was, I mean, what
- 57:38Speaker 2: a sacrifice, and for one person's life, which I think
- 57:41Speaker 2: a lot of folks would argue wasn't necessarily worth it.
- 57:45Speaker 3: And you know, in a logical.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Like dispassionate sort of way, I could see that argument.
- 57:54Speaker 2: But it's just tough because sometimes it's like you have
- 58:00Speaker 2: to set aside logic for a second and just think
- 58:03Speaker 2: about the value of doing something. Doing the right thing
- 58:06Speaker 2: for a person, and it's tough. Is it the right thing?
- 58:12Speaker 1: You know?
- 58:12Speaker 2: If everybody here had died from that gas, would that
- 58:16Speaker 2: have been the right thing? I feel like I might
- 58:20Speaker 2: think no, But because we're standing here and everybody got
- 58:24Speaker 2: out now it's feeling like it's worth it. And that's
- 58:28Speaker 2: always the way, isn't it Like depending how on the outcome,
- 58:31Speaker 2: it determines whether or not it was the right or
- 58:35Speaker 2: a good choice. So anyway, that's everything, and I'm going
- 58:42Speaker 2: to wrap up this recording, but I just really wanted
- 58:44Speaker 2: to get all of this out before I did my
- 58:46Speaker 2: recording tomorrow with Florian. So thank you guys for coming
- 58:50Speaker 2: hanging out with me real quick. Appreciate you all a lot,
- 58:53Speaker 2: and thank you for bearing with me when I lost internet.
- 58:56Speaker 2: That was super annoying.
- 58:58Speaker 1: And I will see you all tomorrow. Until then, Tolu
- 59:01Speaker 1: mofuers
- 59:32Speaker 2: That was an unspoiled networkst
