- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Ooh, so it's Father's Day. Happy Father's day and today, in
- 0:35honor of my dad, I want to share something about him about
- 0:40lessons, that he taught me because I think that my greatest
- 0:44teacher was my dad. He was by far my best friend.
- 0:47He was by far someone that I will miss for absolute ever, in
- 0:54the sense of having him physically, even though I know
- 0:56he is always with me. I just, you know, I would love
- 1:00to Of coffee with him again because that was our thing to
- 1:03go, and go to Dunkin Donuts and have coffee in any event.
- 1:08Today, we are talking about some of the lessons that he brought
- 1:11to the table for me. And one of them is always
- 1:15expecting more from yourself. Now that may seem like a very
- 1:19harsh reality to deal with his when you have to expect more
- 1:22from yourself all the time and you're exhausted and you don't
- 1:25want to do it and you just want to give up and we've all been
- 1:29there. However, I think the best part
- 1:31of the lesson that he provided me with was, it's okay to feel
- 1:35that way. It's just not, okay, to act that
- 1:38way and give up. And I used to say to him all the
- 1:43time, you know, I don't understand, it's good enough, I
- 1:47can remember being a teenager and actually using the words
- 1:50good enough and he's like, you know, you really have to decide
- 1:54what you want people to think of you.
- 1:56And you have to really decide if good enough is okay, for you.
- 2:00Good enough is okay for you great.
- 2:02It's just not good. Enough is not okay for me and I
- 2:08can distinctly remember pushing back against that like I just
- 2:12want to get through this. I even went to him at one point
- 2:15in time I'm not a math person. Went to him during algebra class
- 2:20and I said to him, I absolutely hate this class so much I can't
- 2:24even tell you. And it was like, I think
- 2:27probably week two of the class when I was complaining about
- 2:30About it and he said to me, well, you have to get through it
- 2:35to graduate. Correct.
- 2:37Yes. Okay, well then what how do you
- 2:39want to do it? Do you want to just get through
- 2:42it or do you want to give it the best shot you've got?
- 2:46And I was like I just want to get through it and he's like,
- 2:49you know, I think in this case I can hear what you're saying and
- 2:53fine do it that way, but just know for the rest of your life,
- 2:57you're going to know, you didn't put the best effort in And that
- 3:01haunted me because all I did was want to just get through it.
- 3:05Like that was the big thing just get through it just get through
- 3:08it, just get through it. But then he's like you're going
- 3:10to know for the rest of your life that you didn't give it
- 3:13your best shot. And ah, gosh, that just stuck
- 3:18with me. And while I did go in and give
- 3:22it my best shot because I was pissed that he said that to me
- 3:25and I was pissed that I had to try to figure out how to get
- 3:29around the fact that it was so So hard for me because
- 3:32conceptually it was just not something.
- 3:35I had been used to. The other part was, my teacher
- 3:39was like, very rough around the edges and we're going back, many
- 3:43years, not when teachers took the time, there was no videos to
- 3:46go and watch and you had to learn everything through books,
- 3:49and it was tough at that point in time, to be able to do
- 3:54something like that. And I think now, I watch when my
- 3:58son does, this kind of stuff and I go Holy cow.
- 4:01What conditions have changed? I wonder what difference that
- 4:05would have made, but it doesn't matter.
- 4:07I'm not Monday morning quarterbacking it.
- 4:09I, I'm using this as an example for you guys right now.
- 4:12No, I went and I gave it. My quote unquote best shot at
- 4:16the time, but even now as an adult, I can go back to that
- 4:20situation and think about it and say really, was it only my best
- 4:24shot that that was the best, or was I still holding back.
- 4:29And if I'm telling the truth, With the reality was I was still
- 4:32holding back because I just wanted to get through it.
- 4:36So the lesson in all of this today is you have to really
- 4:40decide for yourself. Am I doing it at a thousand
- 4:44percent of what I could am? I going that extra bit?
- 4:47Am I doing those little extra things?
- 4:50My taking it on, in the level that I know is going to do
- 4:54something for me. Or am I just in a place where I
- 4:58am, you know, Skirting skating by just doing the minimums that
- 5:05I need to do in order to make things kind of stick.
- 5:09And then I'm okay because I'm in life when you when you approach
- 5:13it and you do it that way and you just give it the minimums
- 5:16and you just push just over the line.
- 5:20You may have gotten to the end result, but you are the only one
- 5:23that knows. You didn't pour into it and you
- 5:25didn't get the result at the highest level you could and then
- 5:28you have to live with that. So this is why when you take
- 5:33something like this information and you start to say, okay, am I
- 5:36really doing it the way? I could be doing it.
- 5:39Am I pushing myself to that point?
- 5:41And I think that question always makes me know in the back of my
- 5:46head. Yep, I actually am doing it.
- 5:48So when I say, you know, I'm a bit extreme with my plants, I'm
- 5:51a bit extreme with my garden. I'm a bit extreme with my
- 5:54chickens or anything else. Any other projects that I have
- 5:57going? Yeah.
- 5:58There's a reason for it because I know No, I know in my heart of
- 6:02hearts when I pour in at that thousand percent level,
- 6:06Something Different always happens.
- 6:08So, I hope you have a fun Father's Day, whatever you're
- 6:11doing. If it's relevant to you, I hope
- 6:14you have a blessed week and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:18Bye.
