- 0:40us of the chains that we didn't know we were

- 0:51is time for our weekly catch up, where I catch
- 0:54you up on what's been going on. since the last
- 0:57time we talked. okay so y 'all i have to be so
- 1:01honest with you i'm addicted to love island i've
- 1:05watched seasons in the past and yes i mean i
- 1:08do think season six is supreme but it is when
- 1:10a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon but this
- 1:13latest season season season seven has been actually
- 1:17so crazy one of my friends posted on tiktok the
- 1:20other day though that she thinks it's the fakest
- 1:22season we've had yet And after hearing her say
- 1:26that, I kind of agree. I think that everyone's
- 1:29trying to manipulate how they're turning out
- 1:31or showing up on social media. And I don't know
- 1:35about Ace. I like Ace, but I think that he is
- 1:39almost showing up too well and too cool and too
- 1:43chill. I feel like he's playing the long game
- 1:45here. There's a con happening. I just don't know
- 1:48how real he is. But anyways, let's talk about
- 1:51Huda and Jeremiah. First off, they're the most
- 1:53toxic couple I have ever seen in my whole entire
- 1:57life. Like, holy crap. I just got to the part
- 2:01where they broke up. Can I say officially? No,
- 2:03because we're only the first what? Week and a
- 2:06half in. We'll see what happens next. But yeah,
- 2:09they need to get super far away from each other.
- 2:12And Huda needs to go see a therapist, a counselor
- 2:15and a psychologist. she's got some work to do
- 2:18um all right uh things we are stepping into this
- 2:22week more beach time in fact after i record this
- 2:26episode i'm going to the beach with one of my
- 2:28friends um and things i'm stepping out of this
- 2:31week let me tell you i have gotten out of control
- 2:35with my sweet treats out of control i was never
- 2:39really a sugar person and now i am i feel like
- 2:41i'm eating sugar all the time Especially with
- 2:44one of my friends. I feel like we're always going
- 2:46out to get a little sweet treat and I'm not that
- 2:48person and I can't do it anymore I feel so gross
- 2:51like I'm tired every day. I don't want to go
- 2:53to the gym And my swimsuits are just not looking
- 2:57that cute on me anymore So I'm stepping out of
- 3:00sweet treats as of today as of this week Okay.
- 3:03Well, that's all I have for you today and let's
- 3:06dive in into today's episode Today we're talking
- 3:14about prayer. What is it? Why pray? How do you
- 3:17pray? Is it important to my relationship with
- 3:19Jesus? Does it matter if I pray or not? What
- 3:22if I don't know how to? And what does it have
- 3:24to do with me feeling freed? These are all questions
- 3:27I've heard or gotten either through coffee dates
- 3:29with friends or through Bible study meetings.
- 3:32A lot of people don't feel comfortable praying,
- 3:34have never tried, or just don't know how to.
- 3:36And if you're one of those people, please know
- 3:39that you aren't alone. I remember a time when
- 3:41I'd hear people do long, drawn -out prayers.
- 3:43They seemed to know all these words and how to
- 3:45string them into the most beautiful or longest
- 3:47sentence I've ever heard. They could be praying
- 3:50over food or a sick friend, and in my mind, a
- 3:52simple, Lord, bless this food or heal our friend
- 3:55would do. And truthfully, that's all I had in
- 3:58my own head to say. But other people could go
- 4:00on and on and on, and I was low -key impressed.
- 4:04I remember thinking, wow, now they know how to
- 4:06talk to the Lord. God must really love them.
- 4:09But very rarely did I ever feel moved or feel
- 4:12the spirit in the room when those prayers were
- 4:15prayed. I hated being asked to pray for groups
- 4:18or over dinner. I'd get so self -conscious, I'd
- 4:21stress out about it, what I would say, not have
- 4:25enough to say, or say the wrong thing, because
- 4:27again, truthfully, I wasn't a girl with many
- 4:29words to pray out loud for all to hear. I often
- 4:32would listen to others pray and make notes on
- 4:34what to add to mine when I got the chance. I'd
- 4:36be like, oh wow. That was a good thing to say.
- 4:39Or, that could cover a lot of things. I need
- 4:42to remember that. But I'd always forget. I wanted
- 4:45to pray the way that other people did. Mine felt
- 4:47too short, too simple. There was no way God would
- 4:50want to hear my prayer when other people were
- 4:53so much better at it. Theirs were deeper, longer,
- 4:56had prettier words. So they had to carry more
- 4:58weight and value, right? Well, no. I was wrong.
- 5:02Like most subjects in my life, I sat on what
- 5:05prayer was and how to do it right for a long
- 5:07time. and I just never felt like I was doing
- 5:09it right. I prayed and feel like I should be
- 5:13feeling something, but I didn't. I'd start a
- 5:15prayer and hope God would give me the words to
- 5:17say to bless a meal and I'd end up overthinking
- 5:20it and going back to my basic, Lord, thank you
- 5:23for this food, amen. I knew I was making prayer
- 5:25too much about me, so I gave up. I don't know
- 5:28how old I was when I gave up, but I remember
- 5:30a moment in my head and heart where I felt defeated
- 5:33and decided praying good, quote unquote, wasn't
- 5:36in my cards. It just wasn't my thing. So I decided
- 5:40my prayers were going to be me just talking to
- 5:42Jesus because I'm really good at that. I'm a
- 5:45yapper. But I just start to end it with an amen
- 5:47now. I talk to Jesus a lot. So much so I'm pretty
- 5:51sure anyone who walks upon me unexpectedly thinks
- 5:54that I'm crazy because I'm talking to myself.
- 5:56But I'm just having a convo with Jesus. Jesus
- 5:59has to listen to all my rants because I keep
- 6:01him involved and up to date on all my drama.
- 6:04The only other person who might come close is
- 6:07my mama. In all seriousness. That's what prayer
- 6:10is though. It's just being in communication with
- 6:13God. We can dress it up in beautiful poetry or
- 6:16we can make it simple like I have. It's funny
- 6:18though, because now people tell me I pray so
- 6:21well or that they wish they could pray like me,
- 6:23but honestly, I'm at the point I forget everyone
- 6:26else is there. When I pray for a friend or in
- 6:28a group, I'm just telling Jesus what's up, what's
- 6:30going on, and what's on my heart. So this is
- 6:33tip one. If you don't know how to pray or where
- 6:36to start, just have a conversation with Jesus
- 6:38like you would a friend and add an amen to the
- 6:40end. If you're meeting a friend for coffee, what
- 6:43do you do? You say, hi, how are you? And then
- 6:45you tell them what's going on in your life and
- 6:47what you've been up to. For me, it's as simple
- 6:49as when I'm in the car headed to work or getting
- 6:51ready in the morning to go do something. I typically
- 6:54say something like, hi Jesus, I get to meet a
- 6:56friend for coffee at a new shop today. And then
- 6:59I have to go shopping and meal prep. I really
- 7:01like to make time to read my new book and rest
- 7:03hopefully if I can. You know what? Will you please
- 7:06be with me and all that today and bless it? Okay,
- 7:08thanks Jesus. Amen. And then I carry on with
- 7:11whatever random thought I have and wanted to
- 7:13tell him because unfortunately for me, my brain
- 7:17never turns off. Sometimes in those conversations,
- 7:20I tell my fears and my insecurities. Not because
- 7:22He doesn't know them, but because that's what
- 7:24I would do with a friend. I would tell them.
- 7:26Prayer is important. How can you have a relationship
- 7:29with someone you never talked to? You can't.
- 7:32If you don't communicate, make a request, or
- 7:34let someone get to know you, then you can't have
- 7:36a relationship. Yes, yes, God is all -knowing,
- 7:39so He already knows you, in your wants and needs,
- 7:42but He wants you to know you can trust Him, make
- 7:45a request of Him, and let Him know you. All of
- 7:48you. Prayer is where God gets to show up for
- 7:50me. I'm not saying I'm asking him for something
- 7:53and he's my genie in a bottle so he gives it
- 7:55to me, but he lets me see his heart through my
- 7:58asking and his answering. One time I was going
- 8:01through a really hard breakup. My heart was shattered.
- 8:04I was leaving my favorite coffee shop and I was
- 8:06telling God about my sadness and how I wish I
- 8:08could just have a hug from someone in that moment,
- 8:11or if there was some way he could show me that
- 8:13he loves me and sees me. And as I was saying
- 8:15this, I saw the most beautiful rainbow in the
- 8:17sky, and instantly I felt loved. Just the feeling
- 8:21of love washed over me. And I knew in that moment
- 8:24that that had been placed for me to see. And
- 8:26maybe somebody else needed it too. But it was
- 8:29definitely for me. Another time I was praying
- 8:34that God would make something very clear to me.
- 8:36I told him, I need it to hit me like a bag of
- 8:39bricks. It's so clear. Well, the very next day
- 8:42I got my very clear answer and a decision was
- 8:45made. But there have also been prayers that I've
- 8:48prayed in my bed, crying, begging for an answer
- 8:50for years. And it took years for it to be answered,
- 8:54but it was answered word for word of what I asked
- 8:57for. So I knew it was from him. In those times,
- 9:00He saw my heart, my pain, my need, and He answered
- 9:03and showed me His love and His faithfulness to
- 9:06me. Has God answered every request I've ever
- 9:08made? Probably not, but I also don't remember
- 9:11the ones He didn't answer, so I'm going to assume
- 9:14that they didn't lead to the life I have now
- 9:16and that He had planned for me. You might be
- 9:18scared of getting a no from God, and that's okay.
- 9:21Not all prayers are an asking -of -Him prayer.
- 9:24This leads us to Tip 2. Gratitude prayers. Truthfully,
- 9:28most of my prayers are gratitude prayers. I struggle
- 9:31with depression, so I do my best for my mental
- 9:33health to sit in a space of thankfulness instead
- 9:35of what I need, lack, struggling with, or am
- 9:39hurting from. So because of that, I spend a lot
- 9:42of my conversations slash prayers thinking Jesus.
- 9:45Yes, I know He can handle anything I lay down
- 9:48on His feet. But once I lay it down, I do my
- 9:51best not to pick it up, so I pray over it. and
- 9:54I try not to dwell on it, and instead I sit in
- 9:56gratitude instead. Personally, my gratitude prayers,
- 10:00or what the Bible calls a prayer of thanksgiving,
- 10:02are pretty simple like the rest of my prayer
- 10:04life. The average prayer goes something like,
- 10:06Jesus, thank you for my cute shoes, for the blue
- 10:09sky, for the air in my lungs, that I get to have
- 10:12a job, and that I get to live at the beach. And
- 10:14sometimes I get a little deeper like, Jesus,
- 10:17thank you for my sister, and how she knows me
- 10:19and will laugh with me and let me ramble. Thank
- 10:22you for giving me a sister like that. And Jesus,
- 10:24thank you for loving me and choosing me, and
- 10:26for holding me in your hands. You are so good
- 10:29to me, and I know in my soul how I am loved.
- 10:31And I know in my soul that I am loved by you.
- 10:33You are so good to me and those around me, and
- 10:36I want to tell you thank you." Or it goes a little
- 10:39something like that. In the Old Testament, they
- 10:42used to make sacrifices to give thanks, repent,
- 10:45or make requests. Those sacrifices would burn
- 10:48and the Bible says its smoke was an incense to
- 10:50the Lord. Our prayers are about now. When you
- 10:54pray, whether giving thanks, making a request,
- 10:57or repenting, it's an incense going up to the
- 10:59Lord. And one, I think that's really cool. And
- 11:03two, I know I always want my incense that goes
- 11:06up to Him to be a sweet heartfelt aroma. Prayer
- 11:09Tip number three. There is a prayer Jesus actually
- 11:12tells us to pray. So if you aren't the ramble
- 11:14to Jesus like me type, or you don't feel genuine
- 11:17giving gratitude, then start with this prayer.
- 11:21Anytime you feel the need, the pool, or the desire
- 11:24to say something to God, you just feel it in
- 11:26your spirit. Then recite this prayer. Jesus gives
- 11:29us in Matthew 6 verses 9 through 13. Jesus says,
- 11:33then this is how you should pray. Our Father
- 11:35in heaven, hallowed be your name. Wow, my accent
- 11:38got stronger. Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom
- 11:41come, your will be done, on earth as it is in
- 11:44heaven. Give us today our daily bread. and forgive
- 11:47us our debts, as we have also forgiven our debtors.
- 11:51Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
- 11:53the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom, and the
- 11:56power, and the glory forever. Amen. Jesus did
- 11:59what Jesus does and makes it clear and easy for
- 12:01us with a simple prayer. It hits on six key parts
- 12:04of a prayer, acknowledging Him with praise, putting
- 12:08His will first, asking for a blessing, repentance,
- 12:12asking for protection, and ending with praise.
- 12:14You might feel a little weird at first. Actually,
- 12:17you'll definitely feel a little weird about it
- 12:19at first if praying has never been your thing
- 12:22or if you've never done it. But pray this again
- 12:25and again and again until it becomes natural,
- 12:27until you learn how to also pray to Him in your
- 12:30own words. It might be scary or intimidating,
- 12:32but I promise I know you can and will do it.
- 12:36Now, maybe you aren't a speak it type of person.
- 12:39Maybe you are a write it type of person. So here's
- 12:42tip number four. Journal your prayers. Write
- 12:45them down, every word that is on your heart or
- 12:48mind. No one has to see it. It can be between
- 12:51you and Jesus. I have a friend who is an amazing
- 12:53writer. I've told her time and time again that
- 12:56she needs to write a book. Her words when she
- 12:59writes to Jesus or has been moved by him to write
- 13:01are the most beautiful and most powerful words
- 13:05I've ever seen put together on paper. I haven't
- 13:08heard her pray much, but I've heard her read
- 13:11her writing plenty of times. and have been moved
- 13:14by them each time, so maybe that's you. If writing
- 13:17comes natural to you, maybe then you need to
- 13:20just sit down in silence and write out your prayers.
- 13:23Carve out time in your day, sow with the Lord,
- 13:26and just write. Whether you're an early riser
- 13:29or a night owl, you can find time to sit in silence
- 13:32and write out the words on your heart and in
- 13:34your head that you want to speak to him. I'm
- 13:37not much of a writer. And you already know that
- 13:40I'm a rambler with my combos with God, but there
- 13:42was a time between then and where I am now that
- 13:46I used to sing my prayers. Which brings us to
- 13:48my last tip for now. Tip number five. I told
- 13:51y 'all how I felt like I never had the right
- 13:52words to pray or enough to say. Well, I would
- 13:55sing them instead and I still kind of do. I'm
- 13:58not saying that I'm gifted with words to sing
- 14:00or the voice. I'm saying I sing worship songs
- 14:03as my prayers. I started doing this at the very
- 14:06first Passion Conference I went to. When you're
- 14:08there, it can be so overwhelming. If you've ever
- 14:11gone, you know what I'm talking about. You can
- 14:13get so distracted, and that's what I found happening
- 14:15to me. So many voices and people. And as a professional
- 14:18people watcher, it is very easy for me to get
- 14:21distracted. I kept finding my heart and mind
- 14:23wasn't focused on Jesus, and the whole point
- 14:25of being there was to be focused on Jesus. So,
- 14:28when one of my favorite worship songs was being
- 14:30played, And as I sung the lyrics, I decided to
- 14:33not just sing them as a worship song and sing
- 14:35them to Jesus, but I started to pray them as
- 14:38well. And treat them as a prayer, I was also
- 14:40lifting up to Him along with my worship. From
- 14:43there on out, for a very long time, whether at
- 14:45a conference, church, or in my car, all worship
- 14:48songs became a prayer I would sing to the Lord.
- 14:51If you can't find the words, if you don't have
- 14:53the words, if you feel like you aren't ready
- 14:55to speak the words yet, then sing them. If you
- 14:58don't already have a worship song that you connect
- 15:00with on a spiritual level, find one. When you
- 15:03sing it, don't just sing it for worship. Sing
- 15:06it and pray it. Let those words speak for you.
- 15:09You see this in the Psalms. Those Psalms that
- 15:11King David and many others wrote clearly double
- 15:14as a prayer. And those Psalms were sung, not
- 15:16just by them, but many others for generations.
- 15:20So girls, sing that song as your prayer. Let
- 15:22it arise as an incense and trust that God will
- 15:25receive it. Now these are just tips. You won't
- 15:27start with one and automatically be praying for
- 15:30others, so don't worry about that. Actually,
- 15:33I still don't really enjoy praying in front of
- 15:34a group. For me, prayer is very intimate. It's
- 15:37a private combo between me and Jesus, so I'm
- 15:40hella uncomfy letting people in on that, because
- 15:42again, I do forget people are there. And you
- 15:45will never know what will come out of my mouth
- 15:47because Jesus gets the unfiltered version of
- 15:49me. I used to have a lot of fear when I would
- 15:51pray slash talk to God. I would be scared he
- 15:54wouldn't answer my request. I was nervous he
- 15:57wouldn't like what I had to say or that he might
- 15:59not like me when he heard what I said. I didn't
- 16:02want to take up his time or add to his plate
- 16:04when there was people with bigger problems than
- 16:06me out there in this world. But none of that
- 16:08is true. The facts are he will answer my prayer.
- 16:11It just might take longer than I'd like or in
- 16:14a way I didn't expect. I can't say anything he
- 16:17didn't already know I would say or that would
- 16:20cause him to be mad at me. or not like me, and
- 16:22I really truly can't add to his plate. If he
- 16:25cares for the birds of the air and the lilies
- 16:27of the valley, then he cares about me and he
- 16:30really does care about you. I've gotten bolder
- 16:33over the years with my prayers. I speak scripture
- 16:35back to God when praying if I feel like I'm not
- 16:37seeing movement. I decided a long time ago I'd
- 16:40be the widow knocking on the door at the judge's
- 16:42house in Luke 18, not because I feel like I deserve
- 16:45it or demand it. but to show God again and again
- 16:49that I have faith and that I know He will follow
- 16:52through. And let me tell you, He has. I have
- 16:55so many stories of Him following through, but
- 16:57only because I learned to pray, to talk with
- 16:59Him, to let Him see my heart and be vulnerable.
- 17:02If I hadn't, I wouldn't be where I am today.
- 17:05You might be scared to pray or intimidated by
- 17:07it. You might not feel worthy to pray or you
- 17:10just feel lost on where to start. That's okay.
- 17:13You're allowed to feel that way. But I can't
- 17:15and won't recommend you staying that way and
- 17:17not even try. Here's the thing, he's got you.
- 17:20Jesus loves you and wants you to talk with him,
- 17:23communicate and trust him. He wants to know your
- 17:26needs, wants, desires, and dreams. That you are
- 17:29too scared to tell anyone else and keep tucked
- 17:31down deep in your heart. He wants to know your
- 17:34pains, hurts, heartbreaks, and what scares you.
- 17:36He wants to know your joys and the little things
- 17:38that make you smile. He wants you to tell him
- 17:40and not because he doesn't know, because he definitely
- 17:43does. He wants you to learn that you are so absolutely
- 17:47cared for and loved by him. But he also wants
- 17:50you to know him. And how do we get to know him?
- 17:53Ding ding ding! praying. You have to talk with
- 17:55him to know him. When we tell him our fears,
- 17:58frustrations, or concerns, it allows him to use
- 18:01the Holy Spirit to strengthen us in our relationship
- 18:03with him. I read a really great book on prayer.
- 18:07Actually, I've read three really great books
- 18:09on prayer. One is Fervent by Priscilla Shire.
- 18:13She says in that book that the devil wants us
- 18:15to believe that God hasn't seen a struggle and
- 18:18or is disinterested and not concerned with the
- 18:21details of our lives. So if you think God doesn't
- 18:24care or could care less about you, just know
- 18:26you aren't alone. That is the devil's goal, to
- 18:29have you think that that's the truth, but it's
- 18:32not. The other two books are by the same author
- 18:34and pastor, whose name is Mark Something. One's
- 18:37title is Draw the Circle and the other the Circle
- 18:40Maker. These two books will get you pumped to
- 18:43pray. They gave me such a passion for prayer
- 18:45and talking to the Lord. He's definitely one
- 18:48of those writers you have to chew the meat and
- 18:50spit out the bones if you know what I mean, but
- 18:52when he writes something good and powerful, well
