- 1:11So guys also some meltdowns, something that happens quite
- 1:14often for autistic people and and a meltdown.
- 1:16If you're not autistic and you're watching this video is
- 1:18where you become emotionally overwhelmed by too much stimuli
- 1:21from from your environment that you then become a volcano of
- 1:25emotions, to put it quite bluntly.
- 1:28But there are no ways of overcoming these very quickly.
- 1:31There are ways of overcoming these in the correct way and
- 1:33there's ways of doing it an incorrect way.
- 1:34So I'm going to share with you some tips and tricks and little
- 1:36packs here that you can help overcome A meltdown quite
- 1:39quickly. So the first thing I'm going to
- 1:40say is that after you have a meltdown, you need to drink a
- 1:43lot of water. I mean like 2 big glasses of
- 1:45water. What happens is when you
- 1:47hyperventilate and when you, when you start to get headaches,
- 1:50your, your brain is, is using a lot of oxygen.
- 1:52There's enough, a lot of water and you'll then get dehydrated.
- 1:55Now, if you're dehydrated, what is going to happen is that
- 1:58you're going to be prolonged in your recovery from a meltdown.
- 2:02It could take 24 hours typically, but then it could
- 2:04take 3 or 4 days because you've been dehydrated.
- 2:07So you feel grogging horrible for two or three days
- 2:09afterwards. So this would just prolong the
- 2:11horrible feeling of having a autism meltdown.
- 2:14Now, when you're in the middle of having an autism meltdown or
- 2:16if you're feeling like you're going to have a meltdown, you
- 2:18need to change your environment. ACP.
- 2:20The quicker you can get out of that environment and go towards
- 2:23a different environment will change your perspective.
- 2:25Because remember, the environment is causing this
- 2:27meltdown. Everything in your environment,
- 2:29your spatial, your spatial awareness is causing this
- 2:31meltdown. If you instantly go from your,
- 2:34invariably it's causing you the harm at the moment to a
- 2:37different environment, you will instantly remedy most of the
- 2:41issues. You'll still be in an upset
- 2:43state, but you'll definitely remedy most of the issues.
- 2:45And what I'd like to do some good things.
- 2:47So we're normally doing good things in life.
- 2:49We're always going towards pleasure and away from pain.
- 2:51So before you had the meltdown, you're probably doing something
- 2:53quite pleasurable. You we walked to the mall to buy
- 2:55a new equipment or a new pieces of clothing or whatever.
- 2:58But then the meltdown happens in the mall.
- 3:00So what do you need to do? You need to sandwich a negative
- 3:02experience between 2 positive experiences.
- 3:04So the positive experience is going somewhere because you
- 3:06thought was going to be fun. That negative experience was a
- 3:08meltdown. Take yourself out the situation
- 3:10and put something on your phone or your iPad that you really
- 3:14enjoy. It could be your your, you know,
- 3:16topic of interest, your research topic, whatever it is, do that
- 3:19because then it's going to give you pleasure straight away.
- 3:21Those are probably these three most powerful things I could
- 3:24tell you to do right now in the next time you've experienced
- 3:27having an autism meltdown and this goes for parents as well.
- 3:29Watching now guys. I have an autism Wifax PDF book
