- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. So we're talking about
- 0:30leadership today and the question of the day is how do
- 0:34you know when you're a leader? Someone asked me that question
- 0:39this week and I sat there for a second and I was like, that is
- 0:42such a great question. How do you know when you're a
- 0:44leader? Because if we ask what defines
- 0:46leadership, we all have some sort of construct in our head
- 0:49about, you know, what leadership looks like.
- 0:52But we really don't ever sit down and pull it apart and say,
- 0:56well, how do you know when you're a leader?
- 0:58Like, what puts you in that role?
- 1:01And I myself pulled back and said, wow, that's a fantastic
- 1:05question because it's causing me to pull back and go, OK, how do
- 1:09I define them? Whether it's for myself or
- 1:12someone else. But I started with myself, how
- 1:15do you know when you're a leader?
- 1:16And it came up because this person was asking, being asked
- 1:19in his role to do something that he did not define as part of his
- 1:24role. And we were discussing if that
- 1:27was they were putting him in this position to push him into
- 1:30something else along the way because he is currently not in a
- 1:34leadership role. And we were defining if this was
- 1:37going to be right for him. And so I said, well, you know,
- 1:42we were running through what the aspects of what he was being
- 1:45asked to do and it, it is clear it is a leadership role they are
- 1:49trying to push him into. But when that question was
- 1:52asked, how do you know when you're a leader?
- 1:54When he said to me, well, how do, how do you know when you're
- 1:56a leader? I was like, well, first and
- 1:59foremost, my conclusion, my definition of this is I believe
- 2:03you know, when you're a leader, when you are able to inspire
- 2:08other people to take charge and do things with you as well As
- 2:14for you on your behalf. If you need them to be part of
- 2:17your team and you need them to go out and do something, you
- 2:20need to inspire them to want to do that with you as well As for
- 2:24you in whatever the capacity is, not for you personally, but for
- 2:28the greater good of whatever the role is.
- 2:30And this is where the, the, the rub came in for him because he's
- 2:35like, well, I, I don't want it to be about me at all.
- 2:40And when you dig into leadership, when you really dig
- 2:44into leadership, you have to have people buy into you besides
- 2:51the cause because you're the person, the 'cause they may see
- 2:54the cause on paper, they may see the outcome on on paper or in
- 2:59reality. But the truth is, in order to
- 3:02push through whatever steps it takes, you need someone there
- 3:08that they can attach it to or go to with their challenges or feel
- 3:12safe with. It's all about the emotion and
- 3:14the feeling. So the real part of the first
- 3:20step in leadership is recognizing that so that, you
- 3:23know, yes, I am an integral part of this.
- 3:26I have to be that. I want to do that.
- 3:29I want to inspire people, so I don't necessarily think of
- 3:34myself on a daily basis when I'm here on the farm and I'm
- 3:38coaching people on, you know, over the phone as quote, UN
- 3:42quote, a leader. I see myself as, you know, I'm
- 3:46the curator for people of what they're looking for.
- 3:49I help them put it all together. But the reality is I am leading.
- 3:53I'm doing this podcast, I'm putting out content.
- 3:55I am definitely in a leadership role, whether I liked it or not
- 4:01for a portion of my life. That is the role that I am in
- 4:05because I'm doing that. And I just don't think about it
- 4:09that way regularly. So when it's when you frame it,
- 4:12it puts me in a position where I have to go.
- 4:15That's true. And so the moment you start
- 4:18thinking about that, you start really defining, well, would a
- 4:23leader do that? Is that how a leader shows up?
- 4:26Because for some reason human beings really have a lot of
- 4:31emotion around that word. You love it, you hate it, You
- 4:34have no, there's really very little ambiguity with people in
- 4:39it. It's kind of right down.
- 4:41Most people are like in a love hate relationship with it.
- 4:45We've all had leaders we love and we've all had leaders we
- 4:47can't stand. And sometimes we'll define
- 4:50somebody as good in their middle of the road, but still, we have
- 4:54emotion around it. And it's why it's so challenging
- 4:57for us, because it is. We all have our own definition
- 5:00of it. We all have our own beliefs
- 5:02about it. So when you dig in and you start
- 5:05to define it for yourself, you're actually able to move
- 5:10into a much more powerful role in whatever you're doing in your
- 5:13life. Because it, it's almost like it,
- 5:17it, it, it, the framing itself inspires us because nobody's
- 5:21watching. But when we attach that name to
- 5:24it, all of a sudden we want to get better.
- 5:26So it's a great question to ask yourself today.
- 5:29How do you know when you're a leader?
- 5:32So I hope you guys ask that question, dig in, and I will see
- 5:36you all tomorrow and have a blessed day.
- 5:39Bye.
