- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Not just the other Danielle.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, we're also called the two Danielle's.
- 0:46SPEAKER_05: I have the two Danielle's in the studio right now.
- 0:49SPEAKER_05: I'm honored.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: I want to introduce you with this bio.
- 0:53SPEAKER_05: So this is what I think, and this is what the streets think.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 0:56SPEAKER_05: You know I can't wait.
- 0:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, this is what this is what the streets are saying about the Danielle right on the street.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: It says today's guests are Danielle S and Danielle K, the dynamic duo behind the People of NWA podcast, which just announced this third season.
- 1:13SPEAKER_05: The show is fun, engaging, and a platform that highlights the people of Northwest Arkansas in fresh and unique ways, celebrating stories that might otherwise go unheard.
- 1:22SPEAKER_05: Danielle K is an incredible photographer and filmmaker with an incredible eye for capturing authentic human moments.
- 1:28SPEAKER_05: Daniel S is a lover of 90s hip hop and a talented voice actor who brings a vibrant creative edge to every project beyond their professional and creative talents.
- 1:37SPEAKER_05: Both are wives, devoted mothers, balancing the beautiful chaos of parenting, which brings a different look and uplifts their community.
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: With season three underway, they're continuing to showcase their voice experiences and the hidden gems of NWA, reminding us the power of stories.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, I couldn't have said it better myself.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: That was really good.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I was about to say, tell me, I'm not a fair.
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: Let's start there.
- 2:16SPEAKER_05: Congratulations, Mike.
- 2:17SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 2:17SPEAKER_05: Congrats.
- 2:18SPEAKER_05: Tell me about the magazine.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: So I my husband and I just purchased a magazine called Peekaboo.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: And it was in prep from 2008 to 2020 here in Northwest Arkansas.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: It's family focused, kids, parents, anything that has to do with life as a family.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: It's story-driven, like everything that we can.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: And we just brought it back.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: August was our first issue out, and our October issue is now our third issue out.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: And we are just, we're moving the train forward.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: We're highlighting people in the community.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: We've made the magazine a more traditional, larger size magazine, soft touch, just a different kind of feel, caliber.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: My favorite thing to tell people.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: I was just on another podcast talking about the magazine specifically.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: And my favorite thing is when I've delivered the magazine to people and they smell it.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: They're like, Yeah.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: And I think, you know, part of that is because we are we are making the magazine here locally and we're getting it printed locally.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: And so, like, we can go and watch the magazine be printed and we basically get it right off the press and take it out to deliver it.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: So beautiful.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: It's a great magazine.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's been a lot of fun and just really, really exciting stuff happening in Arkansas.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: So yeah, so by, you know, in high school and college, I wrote for my school paper.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: And so it's kind of like this full circle.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: Um, somebody recently called me, they were like, You're a media entrepreneur.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Oh, that's a term I haven't heard before.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Added to uh filmmaking, photography, yeah, marketing, media, yeah, publishing.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: So let's go.
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: Congratulations on that.
- 3:58SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: That's major.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: That's major.
- 4:00SPEAKER_05: It's really been fun.
- 4:01SPEAKER_05: So yeah.
- 4:02SPEAKER_05: I'm happy to have you guys here.
- 4:03SPEAKER_05: I haven't seen y'all since our since you were on our show.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: I know, yeah.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: A lot has changed.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: A lot has changed.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: You're married.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I have to ask though, come on.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: When we talked about your girlfriend at the time, is that who you're married to?
- 4:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah, same person.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_05: I wonder how much of this interview was gonna be you guys asking before you missed on me.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: Just a catch-up interview.
- 4:26SPEAKER_05: Just know you guys are the ones being interviewed right now.
- 4:28SPEAKER_05: I know, I know.
- 4:29SPEAKER_05: I want to learn about you guys and hear your story.
- 4:31SPEAKER_05: Okay, a lot of people are saying that no, but to you know, those who don't know, like I'm newly married, six months in.
- 4:39SPEAKER_05: Nice, literally, love of my life, college sweetheart.
- 4:43SPEAKER_05: I knew, I knew a decade ago I was gonna marry her, actually wrote it down.
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: I think I told you all that on the show.
- 4:49SPEAKER_05: Yes, and so just to see it kind of come.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, my heart is like bursting right now.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: I love this.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: But don't you remember?
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: Because I interviewed him, he talked about his girlfriend, the love of his life.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: And then I think when we aired your episode, you guys had broken up or like you had taken a break or something, or something was like going on, right?
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Even remote?
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: I can't remember.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, something happened, like where you were like love can be something.
- 5:14SPEAKER_05: Maybe it was like uh I think what I said was don't no, no, no.
- 5:19SPEAKER_05: I think you I think it was something like I just said don't put it in there.
- 5:22SPEAKER_05: Oh, remember because I didn't want to protect your prayer.
- 5:25SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 5:25SPEAKER_05: That I think that's what that's what it was.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else you are.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: No, you are thinking of someone, a different guest.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: I just now remember.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Yes, different guests.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: No, it's not good.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Sorry, wife.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: We married, like we we're going strong.
- 5:39SPEAKER_05: We're going strong.
- 5:40SPEAKER_05: So um, okay, let's let's go, let's go back in the past.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:45SPEAKER_05: I want to know who we y'all are.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:48SPEAKER_05: You know, as as deep as you want to go, or as you know, how much time?
- 5:53SPEAKER_05: We got some time.
- 5:54SPEAKER_05: Like, let's let's unpack.
- 5:55SPEAKER_05: Now you guys are business owners and storytellers and movers and shakers in the community, but where did that even come from?
- 6:01SPEAKER_05: What did 10-year-old Danielle think you'd be doing?
- 6:04SPEAKER_05: Like, how did you fall in love with podcasting?
- 6:07SPEAKER_05: Or you know what I mean?
- 6:08SPEAKER_05: Like, let's let's yeah, let's take a deep dive.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Well, you know what's funny is when I was like 10, I would like record on, I had a little like Ninja Turtle like cassette deck, and I would record like fake radio shows.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: And I never thought anything about it.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: But I have like this is you know, I would say like whatever the station was, just like for fun.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: But then I went to school and went into like business marketing and sales in the world of hospitality.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: I never thought I would be doing this.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: It was like I have to go to college, I have to go get a job out in the business world.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: I never really like considered a creative avenue.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: I just thought, and I've been thinking about this a lot lately, how like maybe our generation was kind of told this is the path that you take.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, or you should take, but then you kind of get to a point where you're like, wait, am I is this what I'm passionate about?
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: And so um mine was kind of an unlikely uh happening.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: I was just helping my mom out with a nonprofit run and walk, and we did an auction, and the auctioneer like couldn't come.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: And I feel like this is something that happens to me a lot.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: Like, somebody couldn't come, so I fill in, and then something happens from that.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: So I was just like joking around and like having fun and did the auction, and then someone with the Dallas Morning News was like, You should be into you should do voice acting.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I literally would have never woken up a day in my life and thought, I should do that.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: You know, it was just completely random.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: And then I recorded a demo, I got an agent in Dallas, I did like commercial work, which was fun.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: I used to have to go to like improv.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: My agent would make me go to like improv classes, and I'm good at a lot of things, but improv is not my strong suit.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: Um like it was like whose line is it anyway?
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: Some of you have seen that issue.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I have.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Well, here's maybe if I was with like people I was comfortable with, yeah, or maybe it either has to be complete strangers or people I know, but these are people I'd been in class with a few days, we're all like kind of competitive, and I don't know, it just felt really like awkward.
- 8:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: And so um, when I moved here, they didn't have an agency here.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: So I just represented myself.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: And Danielle and I met at Mother's Day out.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: And she was working on a documentary and needed someone to do the sizzle reel.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: So I did that uh for her.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: And how old are though?
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Eight years.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: It's been a while.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: So we did the sizzle reel back in like 2018, 2019.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, 2019.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yes, 2019.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: And she was guest appearing on Brock Radio's show.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: And and she was like, Hey, you should come on one day.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: So we went on and we our banter was so ridiculous and fun.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: She called me.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: I think I was like grocery shopping.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: She's like, Do you want to do a podcast?
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I've actually always wanted to do like since since COVID time.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just remember like sitting at the house during COVID and thinking, ugh, everything's so like sad and intense.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: I want to like put something positive out in the world.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like some you know, like a break from and because I just felt like everyone was isolated.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: Everyone just I just always felt like if everyone could just like connect somehow and come to understanding that like we could find commonplace in a positive way.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: And so when we met, we're kind of had the same goal in mind, and like like let's do this.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: And um, I love that we align on what we want our storytelling to be.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: We're not um we have opinions, but we always want to come from uh we, not a us and them, or we want to like weave together everyone's experience in the community and just be positive and just share things that are happening that are fun, exciting.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: Some people do have sad stories, sure, but we're all about like hope, um, inspiring people, informing people, and just like just being a neutral place.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: I know you're not gonna be like here's something, you're not gonna feel worse about your day, like watching the news or something like that.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: So that's I would agree with that.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's like a really condensed thing.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: No, that's great.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: That's a really condensed.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: I have some additions to add to that.
- 10:22SPEAKER_04: Oh give give us give us your your background.
- 10:26SPEAKER_04: And then you could sprinkle, you could sprinkle it your things.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: Um so my background, I grew up in California.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: I had always loved storytelling.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: So that was something that was some the a thing that I enjoyed.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: I loved reading, I loved movies, I loved going to plays.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: I was really into stories, um, a lot of um narrative stories, a lot of um fictional stories.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: Probably I was as a kid more into fictional than nonfiction just because I was a kid.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: Um I'm still into fiction.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm still into fiction.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: I enjoy nonfiction an immense amount more than I used to as a child.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: Um, it was funny when I was like thinking back to being 10 years old.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh, 10.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: I don't remember 10.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: I remember some things about 10, but I don't remember very much about it.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: I think for me, it started with writing.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: So write.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: I I would write poems about the world around me.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: I'd write little stories.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: I like to write about people that I knew.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: And so it was something that I think just continued to go on.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: And so when I was in um high school and college and I wrote for a school paper, and I was into stories that were like feature stories.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: So not like investigative journalists.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: I was interested in the stories that were about people in their lives and things that kind of we could celebrate.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: You know, I got to um write stories about like the athletes who were really standout and things like that.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: And so then when I decided to pursue film and television production, that kind of was a core of who it was, is that storytelling action.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: And it just continued to just continue.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: It just evolved.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: And it was just, it's been the common thread throughout my life.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: And I've just kind of tried storytelling in all sorts of different ways, whether it's through film, TV production, podcasting and peekaboo magazine.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: It's always been something that I really value.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: And I think that our stories are so important, you know, and our community stories are so important.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: And having the voices of other people is really valuable.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: It's kind of fun, like being able to talk about our stories because we're so focused on other people's stories, which is what we love and what I love about what I get to do.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: But it's fun to think about like, well, why do I like this?
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Why do I love this?
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: And why is it important to me?
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Um, and what is it about my background that just has impacted where I'm at today?
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: You know, I grew up when it was a very analog world.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: You know, I didn't have an email address until I was a freshman in college.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Like it was we're not gonna talk about how old I am.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Yes, really.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Damn, yeah.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: I'm older than you, remember.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: We're not gonna talk about how old I am.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, I don't care if we talk about whole life.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: We can play this game.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: Like, this is a fun game.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Like, Jeremiah, guess how old I am?
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: No, I don't like this game.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: I don't like I don't like the game.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: He definitely doesn't like this game.
- 13:16SPEAKER_05: But I will say I wouldn't have flagged you to not have had an email until you got in college.
- 13:21SPEAKER_05: Like, I wouldn't, I wouldn't have said you were, you know what I mean.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: Like by the way, I love when people don't change their emails from high school, like it's like Texas girl email.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: Texas Barbie, you know what I mean?
- 13:32SPEAKER_05: 25.
- 13:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: It's always like hot nail.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 13:36SPEAKER_05: I used to have hot mail.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: So funny.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my first email address was um the college I went to.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: The call my college of knowledge college, the university that I was at.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: And so I grew up in a world that was very analog, it was very different with the my kids are growing up in.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: And so it kind of had a different, I think, influence on me and impact on the world and how I see it.
- 14:01SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: So it's very interesting to think about just that kind of nostalgia that comes back into storytelling.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: And I think right now being able to print a magazine is really cool, being able to do a podcast is really neat.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: I remember when I was doing TV production, though, our studio is right next to the radio studio and the radio guys were always like we have faces for radio.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: You know, like they were all laughing.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: They'd have these like amazing voices, and they're like, Yeah, we don't want to be in front of camera.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Like you guys can be in front of camera.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: We're not gonna be in front of camera.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: And so it was like the ongoing joke, but I think it's really neat.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: You know, I did like tape to tape, real-to-reel type of editing, like before digital editing.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like videos, people might not even, yeah.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Like way back.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, I remember doing, I mean, you had to lay your control track and then you had to lay it's called linear editing.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: So you had to lay your edits one by one and you had to get it so precise.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: And if you didn't get so precise, you would have like a glitch or you would have like a blank space in between your edits and so it wouldn't flow.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: And it was just it's wild to think about transitioning from that style of editing to nonlinear editing and having to and being able to digitize it and just how much faster you can work.
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, I know what it's like when you had to record a VHS and you had to be or the radio track.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, it's for real.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: I remember it's only record over like your wedding day an episode of like Jerry Springer.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: That's so funny.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: And so true though.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's just how it was.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: Like it was a very different it was a different world.
- 15:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 15:44SPEAKER_05: I didn't know you were from California and I didn't know you were from Texas.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: I grew up in Northern California.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: So Modesto is where you grew up, primarily born in the Bay Area, and then uh grew up in Modesto, California.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Where Lacey Peterson is from.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: I did not know her.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: I did know Shandra Levy, though.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: So when did you mean?
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: So you don't.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: You obviously don't.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: I do not know who are Lacey Peterson.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: There's no sounds familiar.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: She was there's a documentary about her being you know, unalived uh over on Netflix.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of like incredibly tragic, so yeah, it's really sad.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Um, but also George Lucas is from Modesto.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: So let's go that direction.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Now we target.
- 16:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, now we target.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: So I know way too much about George Lucas and about how he got his start in film and how he was like he was a race car.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: This is little information.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: If you didn't know much about George Lucas, he was a race car driver back in the day, like when he was a teenager and in college and he wanted to race cars.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: That's what he wanted to do for his life.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: So and I think he was like 19, I want to say 17 or 19, one of those ages.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: And he um got in a really bad accident doing race car driving and like wrapped his uh car around a tree, and it like changed his life significantly, and that and he kind of went into the direction of pursuing film and storytelling.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: And yeah, so there's like some really interesting little tidbit act information.
- 17:12SPEAKER_05: So you know, I r I resonate with with both of you guys' stories in two different ways.
- 17:16SPEAKER_05: You being more of the writer, you know, poems and you know what I mean, kind of that thing.
- 17:21SPEAKER_05: That's that's how my start came as well before, you know, making full songs and being on stages and stuff.
- 17:28SPEAKER_05: It was writing poetry and just really processing, you know, yeah feelings and emotions in real time.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: I remember you talking about that also.
- 17:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:36SPEAKER_05: Also, we gotta they gotta go back to that episode.
- 17:38SPEAKER_05: Uh what season was that?
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: Season one.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: Season one.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you were like one of our season one, look it up.
- 17:45SPEAKER_05: People of NWA podcast, season one.
- 17:47SPEAKER_05: Go go check out our episode.
- 17:48SPEAKER_05: It was a really good conversation.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: We're gonna I'm gonna find what episode it was.
- 17:51SPEAKER_05: And then for you, you know, you talk about how just in your journey, you know, things happened and you ended up kind of where you are now.
- 18:00SPEAKER_05: But it almost now, looking back, feels like it was almost predestined, you know, full circle.
- 18:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: You were just on your path.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's like these doors close and you're like, all right, I guess I'm gonna just gonna keep continuing down this path.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: And then it's almost like, um, wait, I thought that was an accident or that was a random thing that I hadn't planned.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: But I've I've just like I found lately that like I'm just going with the flow, right?
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, you gotta like row your own boat for the song.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: Like, you just gotta keep.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: And it's weird how you have to just like you're like, okay, this is my moment.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: I'm like just going into this.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: My experience is similar in terms of I've always had the personality that I have.
- 18:42SPEAKER_05: Like, even as a kid, I look back at some of them home videos and I'm standing on my table performing for my family at like five and six.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: But I became have a specific visual range.
- 18:53SPEAKER_05: I mean, I can show I just posted a video on my Instagram of like, you know, me being a kid, and I'm just like, yo, kind of what you were saying about walking around doing the radio interviews.
- 19:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_05: I was like, you know, wearing my uncle's necklace, like, yo, what's up?
- 19:06SPEAKER_05: Totally.
- 19:07SPEAKER_05: All of this different stuff.
- 19:09SPEAKER_05: But, you know, I also became I also became increasingly aware of the pressure of attention at a very young age.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:16SPEAKER_05: And so by like age 10, I'm like, I'm out on anything, entertainment, anything that puts me on a level where people can publicly scrutinize or judge me, hard pass.
- 19:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:25SPEAKER_05: At like 10 or 11.
- 19:27SPEAKER_05: And so I spent the majority of my years like, no, I don't want to do this.
- 19:31SPEAKER_05: You know, people would ask me to come and perform and speak, and I'd be like, nah, I'm good.
- 19:35SPEAKER_05: And then conversation with my grandmother, she's like, stop saying no.
- 19:39SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 19:40SPEAKER_05: You just you never know what doors are opening or closing and so on and so forth.
- 19:44SPEAKER_05: And so now you fast forward and here we are.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and look, right?
- 19:50SPEAKER_05: Like it's yeah, it's crazy, it's crazy to see.
- 19:52SPEAKER_05: But but that part of your story really resonates with me.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: I would love to piggyback on that.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: I think that I love I remember we talked about that on our podcast about your grandma and how she would how she instilled that in you and kind of told you don't stop saying no.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: It was weird.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think there's also kind of an addendum to this in my life and my story is you're never too old to do something new.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: You're really not ever too old.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: And um, I will reveal how old I am, I guess.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: Oh I'm 48.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Um, I didn't even know.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Keep doing whatever.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Whatever you don't know, I didn't.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: I didn't know.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: Keep doing what you did.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: I forget things.
- 20:32SPEAKER_03: I'm terrible.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: You could tell be like you later, you could be like, Danny, I'll have to tell you something.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: I really don't want you to tell anyone.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: And I'd be like, okay.
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: And the next day I'd be like, I don't didn't.
- 20:40SPEAKER_05: You don't even gotta worry about me telling nobody because like I don't remember what it was.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: I don't remember.
- 20:45SPEAKER_05: I wouldn't you need to keep drinking your water and praying to whatever you do because it's working.
- 20:49SPEAKER_05: Like it is That's true.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, so a big part of my story is kind of being a late bloomer at things happening later in life for me.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: And I think that a lot of people get to a place in life and they think they can't try something new.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: And you can't, and you can try something new, you can reinvent yourself.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: I've kind of there's been a common thread through all of the things I've tried new.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: But there are some things that like kind of like when I tell people that I've worked for like a builder and I worked in like a chiropractor office and I did, you know, so like I did like all these like little random jobs here and there.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Side quests.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, side I like side quests.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: They're not as exciting as you think, like a they're like a little animal with like a note for you.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: I do have to tell you about an almost really funny side quest that I almost had.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: I it was after I'd graduated college, I had a film degree and I went back to California and it was the writer's strike in Hollywood.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: And so there was no jobs, nobody, there was a uh hiring freeze, and I wanted to be a writer.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: I wanted to be a writer on a show.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: I wanted to get on the writing, on a um in a writing team, writing room, and there were no jobs.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: And so I kind of had to just work all these like random jobs.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's expensive to live in California and in Southern California, and even with roommates, I mean, like all of the room.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: It's like so insane when I think about it.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: And I was working like almost three jobs.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: And so I had two jobs, and then I almost took on a third job, and um, I was recommended um as a night receptionist at a um at a um uh what are you gonna say?
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, like I didn't I thought a night receptionist was like a euphemism for something.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: I'm no I'm rejuvenating um scandalous.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: It's a violent.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: I was not a violence.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: No, I was too, I was like, what are you about to I've like waited with faded breath?
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: An overnight what?
- 22:49SPEAKER_05: At a nursing home.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: That's the nursing home.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: And so I was hired.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: I did my one night of training.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: When I say one night, I literally only did one night.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: So the man that was training me, he was the nicest man.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: Well, you only work there one night.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Listen, just listen.
- 23:08SPEAKER_04: We get there.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: We can get there.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Yes, we can get there.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: So he's training me and taking me around and telling me all the things I have to do.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: And I realized very quickly that this is not a night receptionist position.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: This is like a night security position.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: And I am a scaredy cat.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: Like, I like I don't do scary things.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: I also like at this point in my life, I should have just really recognized like old people kind of scare me a little not as much as they used to.
- 23:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: I had a grandma that was just a really that's bad.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: Like a grandma that was mean.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: And so, like, whenever I would go like with like Girl Scouts and things like that to like the nursing homes, I would like want to cry because I'm like, they're gonna all yell at me.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: Because I was that that was my experience.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Um you was laughing at first.
- 23:54SPEAKER_05: Like, we're getting deep.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: Let's get real.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Let's get real.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: Like, oh and then I made and then I married somebody that has like these incredible relationships with his grandmas, and I'm like, oh gosh, oh, grandmas can be nice.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Um, so I'm working this one night, and I realized quickly that it's a security job and it's all all about like checking all the perimeters, the doors, the locks, the lights, the this, the that.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: If anybody wakes up in the middle of the night, they're gonna call hit the call button, they're gonna like want you to come and help them, all of this.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: Like, and then so we're walking around, and there's like this one room that was like pitch black, and you had to like walk to the other side, and there's like these curtains, and I was like, You out.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: I am dumb.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was just like, take a deep breath.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: It's fine, you're with somebody right now.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: But I'm like, how am I gonna do this by myself?
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: And then we go up and we're like doing like um like rounds around the halls and stuff.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: And I'm thinking, and he tells me, he goes, we come around the corner, he goes, Oh, he's like, and by the way, sometimes they'll get up in the middle of the night.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: The residents will get up in the middle of the night and they'll just literally, that's that's where my head is right now.
- 24:58SPEAKER_05: I know, right?
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: I said, This is what's gonna happen.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: He goes, you know, don't be alarmed if you're doing rounds and one, you know, one resident is out, you know, walking the halls.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: Like sometimes they get restless and they just want to get out and move around.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: And and I'm like, okay.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: And like in my head, I'm going, they're gonna get up, I'm gonna come around the corner, I'm gonna see them, I'm gonna scream.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: They're all gonna wake up, they're all gonna be pressing their button, wanting help, and I'm going to like just run away and cry.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: I listen manifest in this whole non-existent scenario 100%.
- 25:33SPEAKER_05: But 100%, but you know your strings.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Called intrusive thoughts.
- 25:37SPEAKER_05: You know your strings.
- 25:38SPEAKER_05: You knew that wasn't it for you.
- 25:39SPEAKER_05: I like that.
- 25:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: It's bad neat.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: It paid decent, but not enough to what I would have to sacrifice.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: And no, that is a crazy side quest.
- 25:49SPEAKER_05: That is why I side quest.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm making some odd jobs.
- 25:53SPEAKER_05: It was what it was almost one night.
- 25:56SPEAKER_05: What would it take to get you to go to a hunted house this year?
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Um, um, I've been into them.
- 26:03SPEAKER_05: I've gone to them.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: I can handle them to a certain extent.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: Like Jeff and I went to one, I don't know if it was last Halloween or the Halloween before.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: What's really funny is Halloween is my favorite holiday.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: I love spooky things.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: I know it doesn't make sense.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: No, but I get it.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: I I I like the dressing up part.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: I like I like I like the spookiness of it, but I don't like the like straight up like horror.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: So that's not my thing at all.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, there's just certain like my family has come to love.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: Like all now, all I can think about is like the decorations in our house.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna tell one really quick story about how much we love Halloween and how much my daughter loves Halloween.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: So we have like lots of different skeletons, animal skeletons and stuff.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: And when she was like, real before.
- 26:48unknown: Yeah.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 26:50SPEAKER_05: Me and Danielle kind of think the same.
- 26:52SPEAKER_05: Because my first mom went real.
- 26:54SPEAKER_05: Like, of course, you don't got real ones.
- 26:56SPEAKER_05: Well, so we right.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: But you never know.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: We'll be on.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: I I don't know.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Maybe you have real bones.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: You were not wrong.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: I'm sure people do, but I guess I I have friends that have animal bones.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: They hunt.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: Um so that's why I'm just asking.
- 27:10SPEAKER_05: Okay, not real.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: No, they're not real.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: The ones that you like buy from like Target, like you know, like Michaels or whatever.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Plastic, like the plastic.
- 27:19SPEAKER_05: Okay, no, animals were harmed.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's no animals were harmed.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: So we have a lot.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: I just like sorry.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: I just am going off on a random topic.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: But it's so funny to me because we have a love of Halloween in these things that are like slightly spooky, but nothing super.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: So my daughter loves stuffed animals, like she has like hundreds of them.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: And um, she's 10 now when she was like probably about three or four.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: We got some of these animal skeletons or whatever.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: Well, there was this cat one, and she was obsessed with cats at the time.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: So she used to take the cat, she would like take it around like it was a stuffed animal.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: And one day we were like, Well, what'd you name it?
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: She named it fluffy.
- 28:01SPEAKER_04: Fluffy.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: Or fluffy.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: No longer fluffy.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: No longer fluffy.
- 28:06SPEAKER_05: Why what happened?
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: No, because it was a skeleton cat.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: Fluffy's fluffy's closed.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: You can just edit that all about her.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Get her a real fluffy instead of a dead fluffy.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: She has a lot of fluffy stuff to animals.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: It was it was an ongoing.
- 28:24SPEAKER_03: I think it's funny that we thought she had real animal buildings.
- 28:27SPEAKER_05: My first mom was like, you never know how people celebrate.
- 28:30SPEAKER_05: So, like, if that doesn't, you know what I mean?
- 28:32SPEAKER_05: This is true.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I need to go say a prayer at your house.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: You don't.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: There's nothing that there's no horror there.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Like I said, I like the like spooky part.
- 28:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Not the creepy, not the really.
- 28:44SPEAKER_05: I'm with you.
- 28:45SPEAKER_05: I'm with you.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_05: So Danielle S, what brought you to Fayetteville or Northwest Arkansas?
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: So I came for my husband's job.
- 28:53SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: And I I had never been to this area.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: I had been to like Eureka Springs many times.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: And um I went to school at College of Missouri, so we would come, you know, down through Arkansas.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: Ironically, I had been to AQ Chicken in Springdale before.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: Um but never to North.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: It was really good by the way in the heyday.
- 29:17SPEAKER_03: But we came up here and I was like 36 weeks pregnant, and we saw three houses.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: And it I'm usually a control freak.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: Like, I want to know where I'm living.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: I want to like, but I was so pregnant and I had the flu.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: I didn't know I had the flu at the time, but I I had it.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: And we walked into like the third house and I was like, I don't even care.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, let's just this looks good.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: And so we moved another area stuff.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: We moved up here and um I didn't know anything about the area.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: I honestly thought I was like, all right, two years, let's do two years here, then we'll go back to Dallas.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: Cause um I'm from like the actual like city of Dallas.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: Like I meet a lot of people, they're from like surrounding.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_05: You're from Dallas, Dallas.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like yeah, I was.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Used to like city living, and so um I just wasn't and the funny thing is I wanted to live in Fayetteville because I was like Fayetteville's more like a close, yeah, you know, yeah.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: I was like, this will be a good fit for me, but then the commute was gonna be too far from there.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: Um, so I kind of reset when I moved here.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: I like had my second daughter, I was still like trying to get my bearings with voiceover.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: I just took up like a pause button.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: And then I came to really like it here so much so that I I tell my family I'm sorry, but I don't think I would move back.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: Like I love visiting home.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: I love visiting Dallas, shopping, family, sure, the food scene.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: Um, but I I love this area.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: I've gone to like really love it.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: I like that I kind of came in right before things took off.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: Or I mean they were like in the process.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: Um it was like nine years ago.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: So yeah, that's what brought me here.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: And I'm really glad that I came here just because that I just love the culture and of of all the cities in West Arkansas.
- 31:05SPEAKER_03: I love, I spent a lot of time, more time in Fayetteville than I ever thought I would.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: Oh, I love Fayetteville.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: I want my kids to go there.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: Like, I want to stay.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: This is like my place now.
- 31:14SPEAKER_05: That's awesome.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 31:17SPEAKER_05: I mean, NWA will get you.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's you.
- 31:20SPEAKER_05: It'll get you.
- 31:21SPEAKER_05: It'll get you.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 31:22SPEAKER_05: It's cool that two people from not here originally created a people of NWA podcast.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: We've talked about my husband thinks it's so funny because he's like, you wanted to leave after two years.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: Not after, but like in the beginning, it was like two years.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: And he's like, and now you have a podcast called the people of North.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: Let's talk about that.
- 31:41SPEAKER_05: Like, I think that's I think it's ironic, but it's also super dope.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: Like, let's let's talk about how that even why the people of NWA, because it could have been about filmmaking and voiceover and why go back to California or whatever.
- 31:56SPEAKER_05: Like, why people of NWA podcast and what made those stories so compelling, you know what I mean?
- 32:02SPEAKER_05: That needed to be told in this area.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: I always just found it interesting.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: I just like I wanted to hear from all walks of life living here because there's a unique thing happening here.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: Like some of the people we interview are from here or like a surrounding area, and they'll tell us about like how it used to be.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: And it's changing so quickly.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: I'm so curious about the experience of the people that are from here and the culture that that has been here and it's still maintained.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: And then I'm so curious like why.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously, we know the obvious reasons why some people are coming here and to work in supply chain, CPG.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: But I'm so curious, like, you know, what it is that they're doing specifically here, because not everyone is coming here just for that reason.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: There's a surprising number of people that are coming for creative reasons or um just for like uh the the lifestyle they can have and they work somewhere else.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: So it's like I'm just curious what where people are coming from from all over the world, what it is kind of their expectation is like living here, the businesses that they're bringing.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: I just I'm finding it to be almost like a anthropological case study of like how this community is shaping.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: And I find it just very interesting.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: And so that was kind of that was my reasoning.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: No, I think that that is totally in alignment with what we talked about.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: So when we first just kind of backing up a little bit, when we first decided to do a podcast, um, the story, my point of view of the story of um asking her to do a podcast, I I did um radio with Brock on Monday mornings.
- 33:41SPEAKER_05: Shout out to Brock.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: Shout out to Brock Friday night.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: I um was out to dinner with some friends.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: I was working on a different kind of entrepreneurial journey.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: I um opened this um business up called Snaps NWA and it was like a pop-up uh selfie like museum.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: So it was really fun.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: It only we all it only lasted a year because it was just the overhead was way too much.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: So uh it was great.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: I think it could do well at some point if somebody else did it, but not me.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: Um so I was out to dinner with my um business partners and we were waiting for our table, and one of the ladies, her name is Cindy.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Shout out to Cindy, shout out to Sid Sid, Sid.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, Cindy, Cindy, Cindy.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: Shout out to Cindy, Cindy, we're so sorry.
- 34:26SPEAKER_05: Shout out to Cindy.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: Cindy.
- 34:28SPEAKER_05: Cindy, all right.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: How did I do that?
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Uh I was thinking yes.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: So Cindy, we're standing there waiting for a table, and she just looks over at me and she goes, you know what?
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: The next thing that you do is gonna be a podcast.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, what?
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: And she's like, I'm manifesting that for you.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: And I was like, what?
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: I was like, that is so random.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: Also at the same time, I was like, actually, I wouldn't I think that'd be cool to look into podcasting.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: And I don't know what that would entail.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
- 34:54SPEAKER_05: Before she said it, you weren't really thinking about it though.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: No, not not as something I usually pursue.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: Um, I thought that there was a lot of cool things happening in podcasting space at the time.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: This was in like uh 2022.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: And so I was like, okay, well, like that would be awesome, but yeah, no.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Um and then on Monday, Danielle comes on the radio show.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: And I hadn't seen her in like a while.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we had we're kind of just parallel and this great chemistry on air, and it was super fun.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: And that that just Cindy's voice in my head was like podcasting.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: I was like, Danielle does voice acting.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: And so I just kind of texted her and was like, Hey, uh what would you think about doing a podcast?
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: And I was just kind of being like, just to see what she would say.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: And she was like, Oh my gosh, I've always wanted to do podcasts.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: I was like, what?
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: I'd always wanted to, but it was like I didn't, I was kind of at that point where it seems silly to think about now because I know how to do it now.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: But at the time, I just honestly didn't know where to start.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: Like I was, I had a mic for recording and I could edit my own like auditions for voiceover work.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: But I um I honestly just didn't know where to start.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: And so it was very intimidating, like barrier to like get into me.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: And so the thought of like partnering with someone and then asking like Brock if he would produce, because I think he was already producing a couple podcasts, and um that part made it much easier because it felt very intimidating at first.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: Even though some people do a very simple setup, yeah, I think sound quality was always like really important to me because I had listened to some podcasts that it was hard to listen to because the sound, not necessarily the content.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it's important to have all of it.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: I think we met for several months though before we actually launched our podcast and we talked through ideas of topics that we would talk about.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: It all came down to like storytelling and dealing with people, but like what did we want to focus on?
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: And originally we had kind of thought about calling it humans of of Northwest Arkansas, kind of like and bridging together my photography with the podcasting, which we did at the beginning.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: You know, we got to photography.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: We got some good, we got some good shots.
- 37:08SPEAKER_05: We got some really good shots.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: These were good.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: It turned out to be a much bigger project than we can manage.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: And so we dropped the photography side of things.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: But uh, one of the things that I brought to the table that really kind of resonated with what you've already said about people's stories is as a documentary filmmaker, I meet people all the time.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, oh my gosh, your story would be such a great documentary film.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Your story would be such a great documentary.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: Your story, your story, your story, your story, your story, everyone's story would be a great documentary film.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: And I know some people don't think their stories are really all that great, but I feel like everyone has a part of their story that is compelling and that reaches people for sure.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Connects with others.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: So this kind of turned into an a a new avenue to share stories of people in a little different packaged way.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: And so yeah, so I think it's really I think that that's beautiful.
- 38:04SPEAKER_05: I think yeah, we're just gonna let that we're gonna let that sit for a second.
- 38:07SPEAKER_05: You know, I'm like, we're just gonna let that breathe.
- 38:10SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 38:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's beautiful.
- 38:12SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think obviously this show being called story scale.
- 38:15SPEAKER_05: Like we at as podcastvideos.com, and then me as bang specifically, really believe in the power of story.
- 38:22SPEAKER_05: I had a guest on here named Medina White, and she's just this phenomenal compelling storyteller.
- 38:27SPEAKER_05: She has a a brand called Black Bell Voices.
- 38:30SPEAKER_05: Her podcast is Black Bell Voices, and it just covers um black voices in the South and talks about stories that I mean really go untapped.
- 38:40SPEAKER_05: Like people don't even discuss some of the stuff that she's bringing to the forefront.
- 38:44SPEAKER_05: And to your point, like everybody has a story, and there's something that you can glean even from the most what seems simple, because to your earlier point, it's a commonality.
- 38:53SPEAKER_05: Like we realize, like, oh man, I get sad too.
- 38:56SPEAKER_05: Or like, oh man, I migrated here from somewhere else, and now I try, you know, it's just you find these little nuggets that make you really connect with other people.
- 39:04SPEAKER_05: And so I think it's dope that you guys went with uh people of Northwest Arkansas podcast.
- 39:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: I like when we first started, like the first year and then going into the second, we were like I feel like we were enjoying meeting people, hearing their stories, share their stories, and then we kind of started to see the the impact that it was making and not only just sharing the stories, but also the connecting people that had been on the show with other people.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: I don't know, like seeing, okay, this person just started a business with this person.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Like I just connecting people was a really fun part of that.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 39:44SPEAKER_05: I don't I don't know if y'all know, but like y'all popping in the streets.
- 39:47SPEAKER_05: Okay, like y'all really I don't know what that means.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: I know I like Danielle, Danielle.
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: Explain to Danielle what that means.
- 39:55SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't know.
- 39:56SPEAKER_05: That means like y'all having a lot of good visibility and good traction.
- 40:01SPEAKER_05: Like people are people recognize your brand and they recognize, you know, people of NWA.
- 40:06SPEAKER_05: And the best thing I think now in today's time where you can get media so fast, there's credibility with you guys now.
- 40:14SPEAKER_05: And they know that these stories are embedded in their, you know what I mean?
- 40:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, their quality.
- 40:18SPEAKER_05: And that's dope.
- 40:19SPEAKER_05: Like it's just really cool that you guys have been able to build that for sure.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: That's something that's like I feel like with podcasting is the consistency.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: Cause sometimes it's just with anything, like even if you're passionate about it, just like staying consistent and like the timing and then the quality and the authenticity.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: That's why we like to meet everyone that we interview and we wanna um we wanna share every story, we just don't have the time to.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: And so um, but we really enjoy stories that will impact because it just, especially with a few guests we talked about on our season three premiere, we we looked back at some stories that really impacted us, and we had one that impacted me a lot was a local author.
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: It's his first book, first time on a podcast, sharing his life experience.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: Um, and he said something to me that like and wrote me a letter about the impact in his specific community.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: And it really just like that's my like why is the impact of sharing his story on his community.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: And when he wrote in his book, like, you never know what someone's walked through to be in front of you.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: I don't know, really like it was.
- 41:32SPEAKER_05: Say that one more time, say that one more time, say that one more time.
- 41:35SPEAKER_03: You never know what someone has walked through to be standing in front of you.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: And it was Tua Tony Lee, who wrote it in his book, a star on the other side.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: And it just wow, it just like out of the whole book, I will carry that with me for the rest of my life because someone could you be sitting here, like I'm looking at you, you look very polished, you know, you're successful, but I only know through the music and what the story that you've shared, what you've walked through.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: So like it wipes away assumptions, right?
- 42:03SPEAKER_03: And it I think it bridges that connection.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: So that's that's really like at the heart of why we like to do, and we love the feedback we get because after season two, we're like, do we move forward?
- 42:15SPEAKER_03: And we've had an overwhelming amount of people be like, what you're doing is important, please share it.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: So we're like, okay, like let's let's go let's go forward and sharing.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: All right, let's give it.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: One of these days I'm gonna get her to agree to doing an episode a week.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: Where are you guys at right now?
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: Every two weeks.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: So every other Wednesday we drop an episode.
- 42:36SPEAKER_05: It's it's time, Daniel.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 42:39SPEAKER_03: I'm just it's time to elevate.
- 42:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no.
- 42:42SPEAKER_05: It's time.
- 42:42SPEAKER_05: It's time.
- 42:44SPEAKER_05: I know.
- 42:44SPEAKER_05: All right, let's let's get let's get practical.
- 42:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_05: Because I love inspiring.
- 42:49SPEAKER_05: I love, you know what I mean.
- 42:50SPEAKER_05: But I also love for people who are wanting to get started right now, you know, what insights, what would you say to your early Danielle selves?
- 42:59SPEAKER_05: What would you say to the creator that's out there sitting on the couch like how you were?
- 43:03SPEAKER_05: I want to do it, but I don't know where to start.
- 43:05SPEAKER_05: Like, let's let's kind of break that down a little bit.
- 43:07SPEAKER_05: But first, question trivia.
- 43:10SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 43:11SPEAKER_05: What percentage of podcasts don't make it past episode three?
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, three?
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: Large percentage.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: 80?
- 43:18unknown: Yeah.
- 43:18SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: Like it's like 70 or 80.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: I know it's gonna be high.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Then, bro, y'all, yeah, it is.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: It's 80?
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's 80%.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, how'd y'all know that?
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: You've probably heard like a bazillion times at conferences and in conversations.
- 43:31SPEAKER_05: Is that not mind blowing?
- 43:32SPEAKER_05: No, that is.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:33SPEAKER_05: 80% of all podcasts.
- 43:35SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:36SPEAKER_05: And we we see we see the super successful podcast, and then we hear people throw around jargon, like, oh, everybody has a podcast, but it's still a very largely untapped market.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: And for all the people who have podcasts, like eight out of 10 of them are not getting past episode 30.
- 43:52SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: Well, and that's why I that kind of is a good lead into some of the practical advice I would give is don't tell anybody what you're doing until you've already done it.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: Like don't, you know, like don't, you know, don't do it until you've done it.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: I bet I don't know.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: No, that's good.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: Unless you want to use whatever, if they give you negativity for your fire to like one of our future guests that we've recorded with has said, you know, that people saying, you know, put down comments is what fueled the success.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: But you're right, it's like it is a small amount and it's consistency.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: And hey, like maybe you do get to eight episodes and you're like, I'm just not feeling this anymore.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: And but I feel like as an entrepreneur or someone in media, like you just have to keep throwing, you just keep having to throw stuff out and see what sticks, right?
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: And maybe it's a different avenue.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: We we Yeah, I think so.
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: We had uh a guest in here on a podcast yesterday, or maybe it was Wednesday, Malcolm Mitchell, former Super Bowl champion with the Patriots.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 44:57SPEAKER_05: Great guy.
- 44:58SPEAKER_05: Now he writes children's books.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, I need to most beautiful things.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Most beautiful thing ever.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: Does he live locally?
- 45:07SPEAKER_05: I don't think he lives here.
- 45:08SPEAKER_05: I think he was just he was visiting.
- 45:09SPEAKER_05: I think.
- 45:10SPEAKER_05: But I understand.
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: You know, it's Northwest Sex.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: We never know.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: People are in and out of here.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: He could be here, he could be, you know what I mean?
- 45:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:18SPEAKER_05: So he's telling me to your point about just consistency and just keep going.
- 45:22SPEAKER_05: He writes children's books.
- 45:23SPEAKER_05: So I'm thinking like the cup is red.
- 45:27SPEAKER_05: Flip the page.
- 45:28SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: Lama, llama red pajama.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 45:31SPEAKER_05: Like, llama llama red pajama, hop on pop.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: Simple.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: And he's telling me, he's like, I'm like, what's the hardest part about writing children's books?
- 45:37SPEAKER_05: And he's, you know, saying you just gotta stick with it.
- 45:40SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, well, what do you mean?
- 45:42SPEAKER_05: He's like, some of these books go through a hundred drafts.
- 45:45SPEAKER_05: Oh, wow.
- 45:46SPEAKER_05: I said, a hundred?
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: He's like, yeah, I submit it 100 times and get told no.
- 45:50SPEAKER_05: And then on the 101st time, they accept it.
- 45:53SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, what you know what I mean?
- 45:55SPEAKER_05: So it that really is the through line to anything that you want to do.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: Whether that's fail a lot.
- 46:00SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 46:01SPEAKER_05: Whether that's podcasting or children's books, it's like, you just keep going, you know?
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: You keep going and and just hope that at one some point something, one of them succeeds.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: One of your ideas works.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: But yeah, you have to keep going.
- 46:16SPEAKER_05: What are the things that you don't think about when you get started?
- 46:18SPEAKER_05: Like I feel like there's so much that you don't know from a technical side of things, like what mic do I use?
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: How do I record?
- 46:25SPEAKER_05: But also there's so much that you don't know, kind of what you were talking about earlier.
- 46:29SPEAKER_05: This is a heavy lift to do photography.
- 46:31SPEAKER_05: And, you know, so what are some of those things that you don't even think about when you start that now you could, you know, see clearly or or say to somebody?
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: I would say start starting simple is one way.
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: Um, we don't do video podcasting for our for yet for our show.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: And so it makes it a little simpler, but we also have a producer.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: So that has been a huge, huge.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, Brock has poured so much into our podcast and not just because we're recording with him and not because he's editing our episodes, but because he gives us feedback.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: And he's encouraging when we do well, and he gives us feedback when we sound horrible.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: You know, like he he doesn't ask even more.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: I mean Brock, he keeps it real.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 47:19SPEAKER_05: You need honest people in your circle, you know.
- 47:21SPEAKER_05: Explain what a producer is for the less resumed.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I mean, I would say that a producer would help kind of shape and form what you're trying to do.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: You know, he's really been consistent in helping us stick to a certain amount of minutes.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: You know, he's very, you know, like if he's in the studio recording us, he's like, all right, come on, like, you know, like come on, let's go.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: Or we do the opener, or like redo the opener, or like he'll give us um suggestions on the spot.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Then sometimes he'll give us feedback.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: And I, you know, I think of like our first couple of episodes, especially our first episode, we kind of wrote everything out.
- 47:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: And we should have just had uh just an outline, you know, just something actually points.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: We like wrote it out.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: And we wrote it out, and we rewrote it, we did all this, we were so nervous.
- 48:06SPEAKER_03: And he And I Taurus Reading, oh no, nobody I mean I mean, not like not in a bad way.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: I'm looking we do like that.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: We'll do like a sheet with you know oh yes, yes.
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: I think having something written out is important, but not ahead of time.
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it was more of a script.
- 48:24SPEAKER_05: And then he even told us that Danielle, laugh right here.
- 48:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, like no, but like my favorite feedback that he gave us on like that first, I think it was the first one.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: Is this about your where he was like, you sound like those SNL ladies, the like Schwaddigall like ladies you're SNL.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: The where they're just like, um Yeah, we were way too like monotone.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's like that's great to like have our energy.
- 48:53SPEAKER_05: That's real, that's real.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: Almost a little MPR smack.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: And I and I love MPR like yeah, and next up, yeah.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: And then there were like words that I would say too often, like I kept saying absolutely because I was trying to not say um or hm, so I kept saying like absolutely she said absolutely crutch words, they'll have you with crutch words.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, absolutely absolutely, yeah.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because I mean he's sitting there editing it.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: He's he's like, if I'm hearing everything everything, absolutely one more time.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, stop producing.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: I think I mean he did kind of get on to it.
- 49:32SPEAKER_05: No, that's good.
- 49:34SPEAKER_05: And those spiller words for me is um, it's like oh yeah, it's you know, these are things that we just say when you don't even realize that.
- 49:42SPEAKER_03: I'm and so, you know, uh-huh.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh-huh, yeah.
- 49:48SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, absolutely like sometimes it it fits though.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: And he's like, Well, yes.
- 49:57SPEAKER_05: Right, all right.
- 49:58SPEAKER_05: I I want you to give me the number one if you're an aspiring creator, if you're somebody who wants to do a podcast.
- 50:07SPEAKER_05: What is the number one?
- 50:08SPEAKER_05: You must not do this.
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: Ooh, I guess doubt yourself.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, I not do, I would say trying to do everything on your own.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 50:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think everyone will have a little imposter syndrome to start.
- 50:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: But just we had a guest, and she um Jasmine, and she just said, I belong in the room.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right?
- 50:37SPEAKER_05: I love her.
- 50:38SPEAKER_05: That's good.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: And she's the owner of Black Paper Party, and she was on Shark Tank.
- 50:42SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 50:43SPEAKER_03: And she on she came on our show and just said, like, shout out to Jasmine Jay.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Jaz and Jay.
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: Jazz and Jay and loved me.
- 50:50SPEAKER_03: No, I didn't bother.
- 50:51SPEAKER_03: She just said, I belong in the room.
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: So that's what I thought about like not doubting yourself, just knowing that like you belong in the room too.
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: So important.
- 50:57SPEAKER_03: That's the big thing.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: I I share that a lot.
- 50:59SPEAKER_02: I actually did about that on our uh our first episode for season three is two.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: That was one of our my favorite podcast episodes that we did last season.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: And she just like how I just like what came out of that episode, like, yes, I can do all the Daniel.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: Don't doubt her voice.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: Don't doubt that your artistic expression matters.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 51:27SPEAKER_05: That's good.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: And I would say um, I'm gonna go in the opposite direction.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I'm not answering your question.
- 51:36SPEAKER_05: Well, I was gonna not to do it.
- 51:37SPEAKER_05: I was gonna ask you to do what you should do to do.
- 51:40SPEAKER_05: You read my I did she's got vision.
- 51:43SPEAKER_05: She's like that's not even on this very but that was gonna be the question.
- 51:46SPEAKER_05: Like, what's the number one do?
- 51:49SPEAKER_05: Like, you must do this thing for you above all else.
- 51:53SPEAKER_05: Like, if nothing else, you have to do this thing.
- 51:55SPEAKER_05: What would you say that is?
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, that that changes what I was gonna say.
- 51:58SPEAKER_05: Well, give me both of them.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: So, what I was gonna say at first was one of the things that I think is really valuable to consider when you're doing this is if you are not technical and you're you don't know how to do all the things that then are incorporated into a podcast, like start simple, you know, start start with just recording on your phone.
- 52:19SPEAKER_02: It might not sound great, but then that way you can hear your voice and you can get feedback from people.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, if you can hire somebody to produce it for it for you, do that.
- 52:31SPEAKER_02: Also, like I am a huge fan of like trading services with like as a photographer, I'm like, hey, will you do this for me and I can take I will trade you pictures?
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: You know, obviously it had there has to be like Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: Um, but if you have something, you know, that you can offer someone else, like don't be afraid to enter it into that.
- 52:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, into that.
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: And so, and so that that would be my one piece of advice.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: I'd say the thing that you should absolutely do is vet your guests if you're interviewing people.
- 53:04SPEAKER_02: Yes, if you don't know the person already, like you don't have like a pretty good understanding of who they are, what like for us, who they are, what their impact is on the community, um, that sort of thing, meet with them, have coffee with them before you have them in the studio.
- 53:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, get on the same page.
- 53:22SPEAKER_02: Just to ensure it's a match in.
- 53:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: And so we've kind of moved into that just through experience of having people come on that we didn't know very well and it just not going, not going great.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: Um, we've never had anything that was like horrible, horrible, horrible.
- 53:37SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 53:37SPEAKER_02: But just to a point, maybe not an alignment.
- 53:39SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: Not an alignment.
- 53:41SPEAKER_03: Not that they did anything wrong.
- 53:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, right.
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: What they're doing, what they're doing matters.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: It just maybe wasn't an alignment.
- 53:47SPEAKER_05: When the line of best fit at that time.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: So there's just a lot of there's a lot of things um uh that I think play into that.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: And it also helps you as a podcast host, if you're especially if you're doing an interview style podcast, you kind of start to hear a little bit more about them.
- 54:05SPEAKER_02: You get to know things about them that maybe would it come out in the show, and you can kind of keep a mental note of that.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: Put it in, put it in your outline.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:17SPEAKER_05: That's great.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_05: I think there's something to be said about how you have to go through the rough patch when you're starting.
- 54:23SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 54:24SPEAKER_05: Like them first three episodes, they're gonna be not the best, you know.
- 54:29SPEAKER_05: But that's part of it.
- 54:30SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: Like, surprise the third episode.
- 54:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which was good, by the way.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Which is the third episode.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: I was about to say which was good.
- 54:38SPEAKER_02: Like Actually, you might have been.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: No, I don't think you were.
- 54:41SPEAKER_02: I think Coco might have been our third episode.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: It was our first.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, it was Coco and then Raj.
- 54:47SPEAKER_05: I might have been the third.
- 54:48SPEAKER_03: Raj.
- 54:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, well, do you remember what his name stands for?
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: Because I do.
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: I know you do, and I don't.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: So we're trivia.
- 54:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, let's go.
- 54:57SPEAKER_05: Actually, we're about to do rapid fire, but I do want to know what what this is.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: I have to wrap it.
- 55:02SPEAKER_05: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: I'm kidding.
- 55:04SPEAKER_03: I'm kidding.
- 55:05SPEAKER_05: She got excited out there.
- 55:06SPEAKER_05: Like, she's gonna do it.
- 55:07SPEAKER_05: She will come.
- 55:08SPEAKER_05: She's coming.
- 55:10SPEAKER_05: Give me the acronym for bonus points.
- 55:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, so believe, aspire, achieve, now go.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: We gotta put some confetti on screen if I'm gonna.
- 55:21SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 55:22SPEAKER_03: Congratulations.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: My favorite song in his new album is Smoke.
- 55:26SPEAKER_05: Oh, thank you.
- 55:26SPEAKER_05: I love that one.
- 55:27SPEAKER_03: Because he's the new screen king.
- 55:28SPEAKER_05: What are y'all doing?
- 55:29SPEAKER_05: What are y'all doing tomorrow?
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: Oh, I don't know.
- 55:32SPEAKER_05: So I'm doing my my annual music festival at the Fairville Town Center.
- 55:36SPEAKER_05: It's called Bangin' the Gang, 10 different artists, food vendors.
- 55:40SPEAKER_05: Uh free, like it's gonna be super lit.
- 55:43SPEAKER_05: So family friendly.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 55:45SPEAKER_05: From 6 to 10.
- 55:46SPEAKER_05: I'll probably go on around like 8:30.
- 55:48SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 55:48SPEAKER_05: But I mean, if you want to have a good time, bring out the family.
- 55:52SPEAKER_05: We're expecting like maybe 500 or so people.
- 55:54SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 55:55SPEAKER_05: And so it's gonna be and it's a long, cool story about how, you know, you gotta create space for others and highlight people's story and paint where it ain't, kind of do it for yourself when other people aren't doing it, you know what I mean?
- 56:09SPEAKER_05: And so this will be the seventh year that we've done it.
- 56:12SPEAKER_05: And it's yeah.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: I love the community you're building.
- 56:16SPEAKER_03: And just so you know, his album, his new album is like Stadium Superstar.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: Yep, yep.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: Stadium Status Superstar.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: Yes, it is the ultimate, like like think about Rocky going up the steps.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: Like, I feel like that whole album is like a champion album.
- 56:30SPEAKER_05: I appreciate that.
- 56:31SPEAKER_03: But he also talks about he shares some of his story in the little tidbits and um Sam Lyon.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: And the first song is it in my bones, yeah.
- 56:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, where he talks about she's like an expert on your music.
- 56:45SPEAKER_03: Where she loves, like she such a deep.
- 56:49SPEAKER_03: So when I work, oh I love all music, yeah, like all music.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: But when I work out, I either like heavy metal, screaming metal, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: And then I know that.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like to like lift weights.
- 57:01SPEAKER_03: You gotta get there by scrap and hip hop, but not another scream king.
- 57:06SPEAKER_03: And I also love the old Lincoln Park um album that he did with Jay-Z because it's like a blend of two.
- 57:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you get the best both world.
- 57:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 57:14SPEAKER_03: But I called him the Scream King because his new album has a few tracks where he, I don't know if it's like screaming.
- 57:19SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's screaming.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: It's screaming.
- 57:21SPEAKER_03: And it's I was like, yeah, he's like bringing the energy, bringing the passion, talking about how he where he came from and where he is now.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: It's like the ultimate like champion.
- 57:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I so first of all, thank you so much.
- 57:32SPEAKER_05: Like, that's another applause right there.
- 57:34SPEAKER_02: She was such a big thing.
- 57:35SPEAKER_05: No, I that like, well, the beautiful thing is that's why I'm like, I'm gonna just hide in it.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: It's okay.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: She it's fine.
- 57:42SPEAKER_05: You took some great photos.
- 57:43SPEAKER_05: We're still riding off that high.
- 57:44SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 57:45SPEAKER_05: We're still riding off that high.
- 57:46SPEAKER_05: But that's that's why we made the project.
- 57:48SPEAKER_05: Like, my producer actually works here now.
- 57:50SPEAKER_05: Shout out to ProKit.
- 57:52SPEAKER_05: Um, but we made it for that.
- 57:54SPEAKER_05: That's why it's called Stadium Status.
- 57:55SPEAKER_05: We wanted to have this larger than life feel, and we wanted it to be the theme song for champions.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm that.
- 58:01SPEAKER_05: And so whether you didn't know that.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: No, that's why it's a rocky inspired.
- 58:06SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 58:06SPEAKER_05: Like you nailed it.
- 58:07SPEAKER_05: Like you, and but this is what you're going for, absolutely.
- 58:11SPEAKER_05: This is the best compliment you can get because it's like we sat down and said, like, that's what we want people to take away from.
- 58:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:17SPEAKER_05: You know, the Springdale junior high school just like use that as their football song.
- 58:22SPEAKER_05: And you know what I mean?
- 58:23SPEAKER_05: So just some real beautiful stuff like that.
- 58:25SPEAKER_05: But if you listen to smoke, I am screaming.
- 58:29SPEAKER_05: Like I'm actually, and you can hear me say in the background of the song, I just got lightheaded.
- 58:34SPEAKER_05: I thought I was gonna pass out without rapping it because I was just like, it was just full energy.
- 58:38SPEAKER_05: So I'm just in there like, I love screaming.
- 58:42SPEAKER_05: And then I get I get to a point there where I'm just like, I know I can't be able to stop yelling right now.
- 58:46SPEAKER_05: I might pass out.
- 58:47SPEAKER_03: So if you did and got back up, they'd be like, Yeah.
- 58:51SPEAKER_05: Exactly, exactly.
- 58:52SPEAKER_03: Part of the show.
- 58:53SPEAKER_05: I left it all out there.
- 58:54SPEAKER_05: Um, thank you for that.
- 58:55SPEAKER_05: I I appreciate that.
- 58:57SPEAKER_05: Invitation is extended.
- 58:58SPEAKER_05: If you like, thank you so much.
- 58:59SPEAKER_05: Bring bring the whole family, it'll be awesome.
- 59:02SPEAKER_05: Before we get out of here, let's do some rapid fire.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 59:04SPEAKER_05: Question for you guys.
- 59:07SPEAKER_05: Which Danielle?
- 59:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, I like this already.
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: This is the part that might go viral.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: So are we like pointing to the other kind of thing?
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 59:18SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 59:18SPEAKER_05: Or raise your hand.
- 59:19SPEAKER_05: If you think it's if you think it's you, raise your hand or point to the, like, you know what I mean?
- 59:24SPEAKER_05: Or point directly.
- 59:26SPEAKER_05: Which Danielle is more likely to crack a joke mid-interview?
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: Okay, no, you're right.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: It's just me.
- 59:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:39SPEAKER_05: That could go both ways.
- 59:41SPEAKER_05: It could go both ways.
- 59:41SPEAKER_05: That will go both.
- 59:42SPEAKER_05: That could go both ways.
- 59:44SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 59:45SPEAKER_05: Which which Danielle is more detail oriented about editing?
- 59:50SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 59:51SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 59:52SPEAKER_05: Are you like it is what it is.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: She's a creative gal.
- 59:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:56SPEAKER_03: I'm a little more of the handle.
- 59:58SPEAKER_03: I don't want to edit anything.
- 59:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 59:59SPEAKER_04: Oh no.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_03: No, I'm like Brock at this second and this again, take that out.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_03: Just tell me what it's done.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_03: I listen to every episode before it comes out, and I yeah.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: I I do listen to it before it comes out.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: And then once we like release it, I listen to it as well.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_02: I love listening.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: Multiple.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: Actually, our episode that we just released, I listened to it two times on Spotify.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: Give us those downloads.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_02: The first time really listen to just the two of us talk for seconds.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_02: Just what two we can make it if we try.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_05: We can.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_05: Which Danielle is more likely to tear up during a heartfill interview?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: She cries.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_03: No, some of the feedback brought gave cries.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_03: Please stop crying on the podcast.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_05: No way.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_05: That's hilarious.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_03: And then I was like, it just a little tone down.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_05: Just like you cry near my.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you cried there.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_05: Oh, I'm pretty sure I did.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_02: I love that about it.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_02: I have no shame.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_05: No, yeah.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_05: I mean, tears are necessary sometimes.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_05: Which Danielle has the bigger sweet tooth on recording days?
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_05: Neither.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_03: I just chug coffee.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_03: Coffee.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_05: Who drinks more coffee?
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: So we okay.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's even.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: How many cups have you had today so far?
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_01: I've only had three today.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_03: Okay, she.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_03: That's way more.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: I usually have more.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: I usually have like two cups and then like a double or triple espresso.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
