- 1:08it's time for today's episode of Nick Carter Dead Witnesses Another What isn't another case
- 1:19for Nick Carter Executive. Yes, it's another case for that most famous of
- 1:32all manhunters. The detective's ability at solving crime is unequaled in the history of
- 1:36detective fiction, Nick Cotterer, Master Detective. It's a night scurious adventure.
- 1:42Dead Witnesses, Oh, Nick Cotter, and the Mystery of the Murder Room.
- 1:55I want having me lunch of me in an hour. O Pete I
- 1:57haven't seen you a dog's age. Oh swow, well, guy across the
- 2:05street, they got it. Yes, come on, maybe he's still a
- 2:06high on maybe, but he doesn't look so of me in the way.
- 2:07He's a couple up. Then I'm afraid you're right, Pete. Here help
- 2:13we try to mow in his back. Okay, yeah, well he's dead,
- 2:16all right? Hey, Nick? When you look at who he is,
- 2:20our old friend, Louis Morelli, the gangster, Well, he'll never
- 2:23muscle in on anybody's rackets again. Certainly took care of that. Yeah,
- 2:27now they can take his name off the bladder at headquarters. But Nick,
- 2:29did you see who was in the front seat of that death cars went by
- 2:31us? Yes, Pete, I did. Slug Bar next slug Barn in
- 2:34person. Do you realize what this means? We now have something who've been
- 2:37trying to get for the past three years. Evidence Again slugger will let us
- 2:39put him away. Why every detective on the force and clothing may has been
- 2:43trying to get something on that thug ever since he pulled his first job here,
- 2:46right, Pete, this should be good news to the whole city.
- 2:50But as he dead, yeah, very dead, you know, him,
- 2:54No, and there was on him before. But I didn see him shocked
- 2:57by someone in that car that went by, and I didn't think it's a
- 3:00use that such things can happen in the city. You say you saw him
- 3:01shot, Yes, I happened to look up as the car went by,
- 3:05and I heard the gun shooting, and I saw him poor. You wouldn't
- 3:07be able to identify the man on the front seat of that car, would
- 3:09you. I'm sure I would. You would a mean looking individual, and
- 3:13that big scar across his cheek was very plain. What this is too good
- 3:16to be true? Another witness and look, Fello, would you be willing
- 3:20to testify against that guy when we catch him? I certainly would. Such
- 3:23men should be full away where they can't get out here. Here's my card.
- 3:25Let me know when you won't for me. Okay, thanks William forty
- 3:30six Mint Avenue. Oh boy, your boy, I We'll call you all
- 3:34right, buddy. We've waited for this for three years. Nick, that's
- 3:46the best news I've headed this department in years. If he paked up slug
- 3:50yet rally, Oh, but the boys will be in with him any minute
- 3:52now and then with three honest goodness, witnesses against him. We'll put him
- 3:55in the chair and strap him down tight, and that'll be a happy day
- 4:00in my life. I know just how you feel about it, Debsine.
- 4:02Yeah, that's got a report that a man was not down and killed by
- 4:06a truck over on the East Side about two thirty this afternoon, apparently an
- 4:11accident. Allot of the body was pretty badly smashed up. I thought you'd
- 4:15like to know. And why did you think I'd like to know? Because
- 4:18the guy has been identified as why him Fletcher A forty six Main Avenue Dick.
- 4:27That's the fellow who is going to be a witness for us against stug
- 4:29bearn So Slugger is up to his old tricks again, you think so too,
- 4:32do you? I don't think there's much question about it. Slug finds
- 4:35is a witness. A witness can't be intimidated. Witness disappears simple as tune
- 4:39too. You'd better look out for a guy named Nick Cotton. Then I've
- 4:43been doing that for years, Riley. It's gonna be the first time I've
- 4:45come up against mister slug Bear and she Yeah, not for Calmas, whole
- 4:49town from nder and cloding up and down in sideways and the rain of a
- 4:53sign of slug anyway, what do I mean the right to taining of him?
- 4:56There's got to be he ain't left town. He Oh no, thanks,
- 4:59so we can't love. I'm with the death car. And nobody knows
- 5:01anything apart him either if they don't know about which is nothing new. Hell,
- 5:05slug still in town, Pete, and you guys don't bring him in
- 5:09in the next twenty four hours. You can turn in your badges. Okay,
- 5:12look your bestia good enough. You gotta do better. Your beat it
- 5:16Nick. For three years, this slug baron has been head man in the
- 5:19city for three years. Me and him has been added tort and nail.
- 5:24He's been the head of every big racket we've had while we've rested him twenty
- 5:27times and twenty times we'd better let him go because he couldn't prove nothing on
- 5:30him. And every time we let him out of here, he laughs in
- 5:32my face. Now he kills his vanish and three witnesses see him, daughter
- 5:38and I will under testify, and suddenly one witness is killed, and we
- 5:41can't find Slug anywhore. No, No, calm down right, your biggest
- 5:46job right now is to keep your witnesses alive until you do find See,
- 5:48we'll still hang it on him with you and Peter's witnesses, even if he
- 5:51did get rid of Fetcher. Now, look, Nick, wouldn't you like
- 5:55to get up to slug yourself while you could call it self protection? Nick,
- 5:58don't forget your witness It's not too okay, Riley. Since you put
- 6:01it that way, I'll do what I can. I get slugged for you.
- 6:15But Nick slugged. There is a dangerous killer and you know it certainly.
- 6:17I know it, Patty. That's why I'd like to see him put
- 6:18wad be in the receiving end of a legal killing. You mean the chair
- 6:21I do. And the sooner he gets there, they better have Nicholas Kin's
- 6:27office putting the car on Quick's rally, Nick, and is he excited?
- 6:30Thanks? Was up rally? Pete has just been pound dead in his own
- 6:32garage, killed by the juice from his car. The car says, how
- 6:35did it happen? Rathery, His wife says, he got back to the
- 6:38house about ten and thirty of the seasons. He drove off in the garage
- 6:41and shut the doors. At about a half hour later, she suddenly realized
- 6:43that he hasn't come in the house yet, so she went to look and
- 6:46pound the body. Do you believe it was an accident, rally hid or
- 6:48not? It was slugged in and there's no question about it. He's getting
- 6:51rid of the witnesses and you're Nextick, Okay, Riley, I'll get to
- 6:56work right away. I owe it to Pete as well as to myself.
- 6:59Now, what what your right? Riley? Oh Raley, I'd like to
- 7:03donate one hundred dollars to the fund for pete'soodoo. He was my friend so
- 7:08long? Did he say that another witness has died? Yes, Petsy Peach
- 7:14justin bound in his car in his own garage with a motor running. But
- 7:17that could be an accident, Nick, it could, Patsy, but it
- 7:19wasn't no more than that truck's killing Fletcher was an accident. That slugs specialty
- 7:24being clever. He's dangerous, Nick, to be kissed, old Patsy.
- 7:27There's one thing in my favor. I know the slug will never shoot me
- 7:30down out in the open. And when he does that with a s fellow
- 7:31crooks. Butcher's death looked like an accident. Pete's deaf looked like an accident,
- 7:35and if he can get me, that looked like an accident too,
- 7:38which makes it easier for me to watch out for him. You mean he'll
- 7:40set a murder trap for you, probably Nicholas Carter's offer. I'd like to
- 7:46speak to mister Carter. Please you Hello, Nick Carter speaking the car.
- 7:53Would you care to drop in on me? Have a little talk? Who
- 7:57is this? That's not important now, for the thing is would you care
- 8:01to come? Why should I be interested in you? It might be to
- 8:05your advantage? In what way? I know something that you'd like to know?
- 8:11I have some information that would help you in your search? Oh?
- 8:16Where are you? I'm in the Cascade nightclub when you join me? Yes,
- 8:24how can I find you? I shall be at the far right hand
- 8:26table as you under the main dining room. I should look forward to seeing
- 8:31you, and you know, we say about half an hour, okay,
- 8:35I'll be there. Nick, you mustn't know this is probably very trap you
- 8:39were telling me. Slug with tip for you. It may be Betty,
- 8:41although I doubt that he'd use a Cascade nightclub. That's a little too well
- 8:43known for him. But Nick, people who have legitimate businesses. Actually,
- 8:46I can't afford to overlook any source of information. There are other ways of
- 8:50getting information besides sticking your neck out for it. Man boy's interested me,
- 8:54Betty, But can I just see what he looks like? Besides, it
- 8:58isn't often that I get a chance to go to a night club like the
- 9:01Cascade. Maybe I can stick him at the check. Hey, name,
- 9:16it's the carter you sent for me. Yes? Would you sit down?
- 9:20Thanks? Care for something to drink? No? Thank you? Cigarette?
- 9:26No thanks? He was interested in business? Huh, Well, maybe I
- 9:31can help you with some information I have to have. Yes with the carter.
- 9:37Wouldn't you like to put your hands on slug Barron. I'm afraid I
- 9:41don't understand you. I think you do. Let me put it in another
- 9:46way. If you live long enough to get your hands on slug barn it
- 9:48means the electric chair for him. But I happen to know that your chances
- 9:52of living are none too good right now. Either he's left you alone until
- 9:56he got rid of the other two witnesses. Now that they're gone, your
- 10:01turn is next. How do you know all this? It's not important just
- 10:05now. What is important is that you may die tonight, tomorrow or next
- 10:11week. But whatever it is you are going to die, you won't have
- 10:15a chance to do anything about it. You'll probably be dead before you even
- 10:18know what the bullet that kills it feels like, well, all this is
- 10:22very interesting. I feel to see where it's leaving you. Mister. The
- 10:26name is Morelli. Morelli, Yes, Louis Morelli. The man Slug Barron
- 10:31killed was my brother. I came to town to kill Slug myself, but
- 10:35I find I can't do it alone. I can't get to him, but
- 10:39I can help the fleece to get him. Do you mean you know where
- 10:43he's hiding out? No, I don't. I do know something that's as
- 10:46good. I happen to know that he changed his hiding place every other day
- 10:50to make sure the cops don't trace him. The address of his new hiding
- 10:54place is left with one of his henchmen in an old fashioned safe. I
- 10:58know the house with us is located. I have know that for two hours
- 11:01this evening that house will be deserted. My buddy wants me to do well.
- 11:07I've had some experience in breaking into houses and opening locked doors as well
- 11:11as locked safe I'll take you to the house. The safe will be open.
- 11:16You can learn slot Baron's hiding place, and then they'll can do as
- 11:20well as you say it's true. Why don't you get the address and bring
- 11:24it to me? The result would be the same. But Carter, I'm
- 11:26a safe cracker and a burglar, but I'm not a stool pigeon. I
- 11:30may help the cops, but I don't hand them evidence they can perfectly well
- 11:33get for themselves. That's a rather i'm distinction, isn't it. Marilla.
- 11:37You have your ways of doing things, Carter, and I have mine.
- 11:41You want to work with me or not? Very well? Well, I
- 11:46meet you and win. Let me see five after ten. Now, I'll
- 11:50meet you with five minutes past midnight and a doorway at the corner of Parr
- 11:54and Clinton Streets. I'll be there. Just one thing, come alone.
- 12:00I can't afford to have anybody know I work with the cops. You'll bring
- 12:03anybody with you, the whole thing is off. Remember, don't bring anybody
- 12:07with you. Hey, well, Morley, I'll be there five after twelve
- 12:13and alone. No, we Ley get a pension, all right? Go
- 12:26ahead, Nick? What do you look like? Medium, high black hair,
- 12:30blue eyes, a little mustache, weighs about one hundred and thirty five
- 12:33pounds. Parts his hair way over on the left side. He's gone back
- 12:37of the right hand nose has been broken and fixed up. You know,
- 12:41I'm not off hand, Nick, But if he's in the gallery, I'll
- 12:46get him for you. Anything else not no rally. It's made me in
- 12:50a half hour at Daily's lunch room. Where is Daly's lunch hoon out on
- 12:54Palmer Avenue near the city line. But that's three miles from here, right
- 12:58Daily, Just far enough, bouncer that nobody in a battles I'll make you
- 13:01that half an hour, Okay, Nick, Okay, I did be there.
- 13:05I don't know. Sometimes I can't figure that guy caught out of Tarloto.
- 13:18I think we can talk. Told to get my way out here in
- 13:22the sticks? Did you pick up a picture? And I found him right
- 13:26enough? His name is Lucky Warren. He's one of the big Chicago mobsticks,
- 13:30one of the smoothst tatoos ever came up of Chicago. So that's why
- 13:33he looked by them. He belongs to the p Street game. If I
- 13:35remember right right, Nick, what kind of a line did he hand you?
- 13:39Oh? Told me he was the brother of Louis Morella. The guys
- 13:41lug Barons. He's no more or at least rather than I am. And
- 13:46they hear me a song and dance about one of he gets slugged, not
- 13:48being able to get near him. And what was his proposition he had?
- 13:52One? Of course, of course he offered to open up a safe in
- 13:54a secret apartment and lead me to it if I went alone. And what
- 13:58did he say was in the safe the address at which we could find Baron
- 14:01for the next two days. That's a hot onk What a phony sit up?
- 14:05That is? Hi, that's nothing but a murder trap. Mack.
- 14:07Why when you walked into that room, you'll be riddled with bullets like a
- 14:11skill. Maybe you're right, Maybe I never get any further than the door
- 14:18of the room on the other end than chasing Baron for three years now,
- 14:24if we should hear him, Conner, Connor, mey, he's set in
- 14:26the trap. To Connor, you can't be sure, Ray, it might
- 14:30work out, work out, Nick. I fought with you many a time
- 14:33in the past, and if the Lord scares me, we'll fight together many
- 14:35a time in years to come. But I think too much of you to
- 14:37see you walk into a house where you can't live five minutes, five minutes.
- 14:43I could only be sure that I could live for five minutes after I
- 14:46walked in. And Nick, is there anything the matter with you? Are
- 14:48you nut say something? No? Riley, I think not. I think
- 14:52I have an idea. It might work and it might not, and you
- 14:56might live with you might not, don't you see Rady. That's if I
- 15:00don't walk into this trap it is. It doesn't get me one way,
- 15:01you'll get me another. My only chance to stay alive is to get him
- 15:05first. And this plan of mine will be the answer meets you know,
- 15:09you can't tell the time riving. Listen when I tell you my idea,
- 15:11because I'm going to need your co operations. I never need it before.
- 15:13I heard it all right that time, I see Carter? Yeswer really,
- 15:31let's get going. Certainly, the house is not far from here, just
- 15:35around the corner. As a matter of fact, I guess come from there.
- 15:39The door to the basement is open, and the safe is in one
- 15:41of the upstairs rooms. And you think there'll be nobody that for at least
- 15:45two hours. For between two and three hours, the house will be deserted,
- 15:48and you're going to show me the room and the safe is. I've
- 15:50done all I'm going to do. The door is open, the safe is
- 15:52open. The rest is up to you. I hope your information is correct.
- 15:58I shouldn't like to be caught in this train your house rifling to say,
- 16:00that's the least of your worries. That is. Catching slug barn is
- 16:04much more important, isn't it? Only? Yes? Yes, of course
- 16:07there this is The house was all red brick. Number forty two doesn't look
- 16:15very inviting, does it that? M God already it didn't take you long
- 16:22to leave. You did it well? Nick, You're on your own now.
- 16:52Nothing here in the basement do interest me. I'm glad I thought to
- 16:56put new faantories in this flash light tonight. H m hm hm h m.
- 17:22Seems to be nobody here in the first floor. Must go all up
- 17:26on the second floor when he said the safe is probably won't bother me until
- 17:30I get up there, which is just as it should be. Hyah,
- 17:42h must be in a living room still furnished. It's been a long time
- 17:48since anyone lived here. Ah, this will do well enough for what I
- 17:53want. Have a cigarette Nick, Yes, thanks, Yeah, I have
- 18:02another cigarette? Nick? Why? Yes, thanks? Don't you have another
- 18:08cigarette? Nick? Well? Yes, thanks? I will now. Uh,
- 18:19sounds just if they getting nervous upstairs. Don't worry for him. Don't
- 18:32you said you told him as safe was up here? Right? Did?
- 18:36What the dece is he doing down there? I know? I still think
- 18:38you should have brought some of the boys to help you. Somebody afraid of
- 18:41him. He'll push over and all that you guys are quiet? Here he
- 18:45comes now. Yeah, these are the creakiest stairs I ever heard. Kay
- 18:59h Yeah, here's the room. You can see the safe. This is
- 19:10some room no windows in it. Look at this door, solid steel,
- 19:14thought like an ice box. It's are heavy and still no one here to
- 19:18meet me. At least I can look into the safe while I wait.
- 19:22Yeah, doors opened a crack, just as advertised. Why so that's it
- 19:33very interesting? Well, advance to say other thing. I'll leave the examination
- 19:37of the safety later. Jam ups comfortable, I'll wait for my host there
- 19:45with my gun in hand, just in the case. Let's see, it's
- 19:53been just four minutes since I came up from downstairs. I can hold out
- 19:57here another two minutes at least before they No, so you've come to welcome
- 20:04here last, have you? Well, Nick Carter, it's been some little
- 20:08time since we saw each other. Swarmly, it's hardly my false, lug.
- 20:14I've done my best to find you any number of times in the past
- 20:15year or more. Log let me take a shurees. Yes, of course
- 20:19you're here too. Have you managed to avenge your brother yet, mister Lucky
- 20:23Warren Lucky, come in and close the door. Don't forget you're only a
- 20:30guest at this party. Look, slug, let's get this over with falling
- 20:33around with Nick Carter's dynamite. I don't really see why you should be on
- 20:36that way, Lucky. Nobody knows where I am, so nobody's going to
- 20:38interfere with you. You ain't telling us nothing, Carter. We made sure
- 20:44of that ourselves. We had two men shadow you from the nightclub to the
- 20:47lunch room where you talk to Lieutenant Riley. We had two men shadow Riley
- 20:51back to headquarters, and two more follow you when you came here to meet
- 20:56Lucky. No Cotta, We're sure there ain't no following you this time.
- 21:00You've been to a great deal of trouble. Slug. It seems to me
- 21:03just to get me to walk into a death tramp that was corny and as
- 21:06obvious as this one. Well, now that I'm here, what's going to
- 21:10happen? Carter? I've been waiting three years to take care of you,
- 21:14and I'm going to see that. You can see that you've cut the current
- 21:17off from the safe. If I hadn't heard the hum of the transformer a
- 21:19few minutes ago, I should probably have touched it and been knocked unconscious.
- 21:25Or is that what you wanted? You'd touched that safe, you would have
- 21:27been dead. Oh, that's what happened to that headquarter has got the phone
- 21:32on the third rail of the elevated last winter. I thought I didn't look
- 21:36right at the time. You got him to touch this safe and then electricated
- 21:38him. Then you dumped him in the third rail where they found him.
- 21:41Very clever slug learning that a little late. Ain't Chakuta. Too bad it
- 21:45didn't work with me. Now you've got to find some other way to get
- 21:48rid of me, some less clever way. Are we going to stand around
- 21:52here all night, you and the rag or are we going to take care
- 21:55of this guy and ike it easy? Lucky that we're all here again.
- 22:00There ain't no hurry, Carter ain't going nowhere. And with the door closed
- 22:04the way it is, this room is sound proof, isn't it? Lovely?
- 22:07Room for a murder? And it probably won't be the first time it's
- 22:11been used for that either. Let me take him, slug. My finger
- 22:15is getting anxious. All right, Lucky, but make it good. I'll
- 22:19make it good. All right, Sure, Lucky, he'll make it good.
- 22:23If he doesn't, you're saying that's the idea, Slug, and he's
- 22:33going to say that. But now, yeah, so your thin you say,
- 22:36as long as you don't have the fun of you, you can't.
- 22:40You can't, Lesly, it's been too long to get this car, so
- 22:44long, Lucky? Well look you yes, you kill him and miss mee
- 22:56what now? Lucky's buddy's pretty heavy for you now that he's dead. Not
- 23:00too heavy his lug. He's better protection than nothing. But you got no
- 23:03gun? So how are you psychle Lass? I have no gun, but
- 23:07I do have a weapon. Do you ever think of that? Yeah,
- 23:08it's Lucky his body right now. Put the cuffs on that mugg and got
- 23:30him with your lives. Take him down to the wagon. Thanks, really,
- 23:34come about all in gome to way? Feel so weak? Are you
- 23:40a bad nick? No? No, just a scratch on the head.
- 23:44It's nothing, Oh nothing, is it? Sure it's bleeding enough for too?
- 23:48Man? Hey, get the duck up here on the double. Okay,
- 23:51sir? How about that hole in your shoulder, Nicky? I suppose
- 23:52that's nothing too. He almost did for me, Rally. I was afraid
- 23:57I wouldn't be able to hold him. Oh yeah, hold him? Did
- 24:00you say? Sure? Nickk had done noble? Nobody could have done better,
- 24:06even half as good. I'm proud of you. I brought this old
- 24:21hurry up wagon because I thought we might need to use this as an ambulance
- 24:23or as a hearse. Are you feeling better? Nick? Oh? Yes,
- 24:26yes, Raley, thanks very much better. Sure Nikiss killed me out
- 24:30at ten years growth this night? You got your killer, didn't you.
- 24:33I'm sure I got him after he almost got you. Oh what a fool
- 24:37you were to walk into a trap by technick. Perhaps you're right, browling.
- 24:41Somebody had to get slugged. I hope i'd be able to take care
- 24:44of myself once I got in the trap, And as it turned out,
- 24:45I was getting uite a week from loss of blood. I'm done glad that
- 24:48you didn't arrive any later than you did. Yeah, a lucky guy,
- 24:52Kara. When I killed you, those guys hadn't a part of him.
- 24:55Well you didn't, So that's that. That's that, he says, Just
- 24:59like as what my head block, Trotter. These guys didn't follow you up
- 25:03to this house. I know that. Why did they know where you was?
- 25:07Curious? Run or I'll tell you. When I was talking to Rider
- 25:11last evening, some fire engines went by and they gave me an idea.
- 25:14We knew that this house of yours had to be in this district somewhere,
- 25:17and I knew they're around here. Everybody so afraid of fire that'd report even
- 25:19a suspicion of one. So I had Rilly away to the fire jeep at
- 25:23the nearest fire station for the alarm. When they got the alarm, they
- 25:26knew where I was, and they came a running. When they got what
- 25:30alarm? The alarm one of your neighbors sent in when he saw the fire.
- 25:33What fire? I don't know about no fire. There was a good
- 25:36fire slug while it lasted, but the boys from the firehouse put it out
- 25:38as soon as they got there. Where was this fire, whales slug?
- 25:42It was like this. When I stopped in the living room in the first
- 25:45floor of your house tonight, I lighted three cigarettes. I put a pack
- 25:48of matches under the curtains in each of the two windows, and laid a
- 25:52cigarette across each packup matches so they would burn for a couple of minutes before
- 25:55it set off the matches. Then I did the same with a third cigarette
- 25:57of the third pack of matches, putting them on some dry stuff I piled
- 26:00up under the desk, and when the matches went off, they set fire
- 26:03to the curtains and the others tough and started a nice little conflagration, And
- 26:07within two minutes somebody famed in an alarum, just as we figured they would.
- 26:12That is a grands key, and Nick Hell touted up all by himself.
- 26:15Look, mister brains, why did you just set fire to the house
- 26:19and not bothered with all that trick stuff with the cigarettes and matches. Oh
- 26:22down, that stuck you and your pals would have smelled the small competed before
- 26:26we could stop you. But I figured that by having the power start after
- 26:30you and I got together, you'd be too busy to notice it until it
- 26:33was too late. Of course, I wasn't there till it was all over,
- 26:36but judging by the results, that's exactly what happened. It's so bad
- 26:41the house didn't burnt down with You'll win at Kata. That was one of
- 26:44the chances I had to take. But it was worth anything to get you
- 26:48out of circulation. We would be just as soon as we can get the
- 26:51electric chair dusted off for you slugged me by exactly Another trap you set for
- 26:56me turned out to be a death trap for you. Certainly poeticsscus. This
- 27:15has been another of the strange adventures of Nick Carter, Master Detective, which
- 27:19are brought to you regularly at the same time by wo Mutual. How about
- 27:23a little preview of next week's story, Nick, or next week, I
- 27:26want to tell you about an adventure that we had and with Scubby was much
- 27:30more concerned than highways. And that isn't quite true, mister Scott. What
- 27:33it really means is that while he was doing the detective work it finally solved
- 27:37the case. Scubby was having a real adventure. You mean that in this
- 27:40case, the solution and the excitement were two different things. Well, yes,
- 27:44yes, we were up against the hijacking gang that stopped at nothing.
- 27:48Scuby set out to help me by getting some information from the inside, but
- 27:51all he succeeded in doing was to get himself in a real man's nice jam
- 27:55with Nick getting him out of that course of course. Well, if it's
- 27:57exciting, I'll be around listening, planted plenty exciting, I promise you so
- 28:02until next week, So long, so long, so long? Do you
- 28:04both in the strange adventure you have just heard? Nick Carter was impersonated by
- 28:10ln Clark, Patsy by Helen Shot, Lieutenant Riley by Humphrey Davis. Original
- 28:15music was played by Lou White. The entire production was written and directed by
- 28:18Jack McGregor. Next week, at the same time, listen to another curious
- 28:41experience of Nick Carter entitled Death in the Pines or Nick Carter and the Mystery
- 28:48of the Murdered Driver. This story is a copyrighted feature of streetent Smith Publications
- 28:59and Corporate. The Return of Nick Carter is produced in the studios of WOI
- 29:03and is broadcast over most of these stations every Saturday evening at seven o'clock.
- 29:07Eastern Wartime, and don't forget that the adventures of Nick's adopted son, Chick
- 29:12Cuter, are broadcast over most of these stations Mondays through Fridays at five thirty
- 29:18pm Eastern Wartime. This is mutual welcome back, no wonder they created a
- 29:27series of spine novels based on this guy. I continue to be impressed by
- 29:33all of the nervy, death defying things that Nick Carter does in nearly every
- 29:40episode of this show. And I'm also I enjoyed the series. And I'm
- 29:44not the only one. Terror comments in I'm sorry to hear such bad reviews
- 29:48for Nick Carter, Terror writes over on Facebook. Nick Carter may not be
- 29:52one of my favorites, like Box thirteen, year a Wolf, The Abbots,
- 29:56The Thin Man, Candy Manson, Let George Do, and of course
- 30:00Sherlock Holmes, I still enjoy the flavor of it. I think the only
- 30:03one I didn't really love I can't remember the name of it, but it
- 30:07was the one where the guy played the jazz band. That one was a
- 30:10little depressing for me personally. That was Pete Kelly's Blues. But she goes
- 30:15on to say thanks to this podcast, I've discovered so many programs I never
- 30:19knew I would love. It's okay if I don't love them all. I
- 30:23also wanted to remind you, in your preparation for The Saint to read some
- 30:26of the books by Leslie Charteris. I stumbled upon those several years ago without
- 30:33knowing what they were in love them. I haven't seen a movie that could
- 30:36measure up to the fun of those stories along with their early vision of the
- 30:40that's what she said jokes. Thanks for everything, and I'm looking forward to
- 30:44many more years of great detectives. Well, thanks so much for the tip,
- 30:47Tarra, and I do have a plan to check out the library's copy.
- 30:53They've got a couple of Charters books at the Boise Public Library, and
- 31:02we'll have to see how that one measures up. I know that when I
- 31:07was preparing for the Mister Malone series, I read my library's copy of one
- 31:14of the later Malone books and didn't enjoy it and actually put through an interlibrary
- 31:18loan request. But I'll definitely be checking out what my library has and maybe
- 31:23looking for some others. I was actually planning on doing Michael Shane before The
- 31:29Saint, but then a ton of more Michael Shane episodes came up and would
- 31:34have messed up something I had coinciding with the Saint. So I've got general
- 31:41Michael Shane books to read through. But I definitely need to check out some
- 31:44of the Saint books, and I'm encouraged that there sound fun. They're not
- 31:49always though usually they are fun to read the books that these radio detectives come
- 31:56from. To my mind, the Mister Malone books were not particularly pleasant to
- 32:00read, though I loved Leonidas Wherall, and I'm enjoying the Michael shamebooks.
- 32:07So all right, Well, that will do it for today. We'll be
- 32:12back tomorrow with the final part of the Tears of Night Matter, and join
- 32:19us back here next Thursday for another episode of Nick Carter from Boise, Idaho.
- 32:23This is your host, Adam Graham signing off.
