- 0:02Speaker 1: Back with you on Tuesday after taking a couple of
- 0:05Speaker 1: days off. Great to be back in the morning show
- 0:07Speaker 1: with Preston, Scott Jose and Studio one A. I am
- 0:09Speaker 1: here in Studio one B, and I am joined by
- 0:13Speaker 1: our favorite member of Congress, US Congresswoman Kat Cammick from
- 0:16Speaker 1: Florida's third District. Hello, Kat, how are you?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Good morning? How are you? We are in the middle
- 0:22Speaker 2: of a power outage here in Gainesville. Oh really yeah, yeah,
- 0:28Speaker 2: but no no worries. You know, when you're married to
- 0:31Speaker 2: a very industrious man, he always has the MKIDA batteries charge.
- 0:37Speaker 2: So I've got a construction fan blowing, you know, while
- 0:42Speaker 2: we're doing this. So that's the background noise that you're curious.
- 0:44Speaker 1: A mere inconvenience to a person of substance like yourself.
- 0:50Speaker 2: We make it work, you know. That's that's that's how
- 0:52Speaker 2: you gotta do it.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Hey, last last month, we got we got rained out
- 0:56Speaker 1: a couple of things going on, like it's not busy
- 0:58Speaker 1: up in Congress or anything.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Uh, one of those meetings got called off because you
- 1:03Speaker 1: got called into a meeting with the members of the
- 1:06Speaker 1: caucus with the President. What can without talking about any
- 1:10Speaker 1: of the specifics or the policy or anything like that.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Describe to us what that literally looks like. When you
- 1:17Speaker 1: are asked to come meet with the president, where do
- 1:20Speaker 1: you meet? Are you hanging out at a dunkin Donuts?
- 1:23Speaker 1: I mean, what's going on?
- 1:26Speaker 2: So it changes. It depends on It depends on who
- 1:28Speaker 2: all is going to be there, how it's going to work.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Sometimes it's oval. Sometimes there's a room right off the
- 1:35Speaker 2: side of the oval in the West wing. The thing
- 1:39Speaker 2: that is, I don't know why, but people seem to
- 1:42Speaker 2: be surprised about this. But you don't get as far
- 1:45Speaker 2: in life, and you're not as successful in life if
- 1:48Speaker 2: you don't I believe in and employ these practices. This
- 1:51Speaker 2: is what the president does. He'll lay something out and
- 1:55Speaker 2: then he will solicit feedback from everyone in the room.
- 1:59Speaker 2: He really does take off of what everyone says, and
- 2:03Speaker 2: he will He'll go around the room and you give
- 2:06Speaker 2: your opinion, you weigh in, and then he makes the
- 2:09Speaker 2: decision and he runs with it. I don't know why
- 2:12Speaker 2: there's this narrative out there that he's just arbitrarily running,
- 2:16Speaker 2: you know, whatever he wants, doesn't matter what anyone says.
- 2:20Speaker 2: He does solicit feedback because he understands that there are
- 2:26Speaker 2: so many fundamental truths, the one of the big ones
- 2:28Speaker 2: being who don't know what you don't know? And every
- 2:30Speaker 2: one of us represents a very unique district and part
- 2:33Speaker 2: of the country and different constituencies. And so I always
- 2:37Speaker 2: find that to be the most impressive thing is his
- 2:40Speaker 2: capacity and willingness to listen and solicit feedback. But then
- 2:45Speaker 2: on top of that, we've all known, you know, a
- 2:48Speaker 2: paralysis from analysis. Sure he does not suffer from that, right,
- 2:53Speaker 2: He will gather the feedback and then he run. He
- 2:56Speaker 2: makes the decision, and he runs with it, and he doubles, triples,
- 2:59Speaker 2: down down on it. And you see that in all
- 3:02Speaker 2: of the policies, whether we're talking trade, whether we're talking
- 3:07Speaker 2: domestic policies. He really does stick to his guns. And
- 3:10Speaker 2: I think that that's something that isn't talked about enough
- 3:13Speaker 2: because everyone thinks this, you know, oh, we're operating in chaos. Actually,
- 3:17Speaker 2: if you take a step back, it's very deliberate. It's
- 3:21Speaker 2: very structured in how he and his team, particularly folks
- 3:25Speaker 2: like Susie Wilde and Stephen Miller and you know, those
- 3:28Speaker 2: that are around, they have a thought process of this.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It's not just kind of Millie Willie, and so I
- 3:35Speaker 2: always say that people would be surprised they think that
- 3:38Speaker 2: he's some kind of reality show character. He's the same
- 3:42Speaker 2: in front of the camera as he is behind the camera.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He's always been very, very kind. I've never seen him yell.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I've never seen him do it. He has his stuff
- 3:51Speaker 2: that accuse him of and I wish people more people
- 3:55Speaker 2: would see that side.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I almost think I'm being charitable by calling the Boulder
- 4:04Speaker 1: Obiden terrorist by that name. Congresswoman, what have you learned
- 4:11Speaker 1: about what happened in Boulder?
- 4:14Speaker 2: You know, this is yet another example of innocent citizens
- 4:22Speaker 2: being targeted and victimized by a person who should have
- 4:26Speaker 2: never been in our country in the first place. There's
- 4:30Speaker 2: a couple of things here that should have been red flags,
- 4:32Speaker 2: and a few things that we've seen and heard that
- 4:35Speaker 2: need to be run down for accuracy. But what we
- 4:41Speaker 2: have heard, unconfirmed at this point, was that he applied
- 4:44Speaker 2: for a B two visa under the Bush administration and
- 4:47Speaker 2: was denied. He applied for a B two visa in
- 4:52Speaker 2: the Biden administration and was approved. Subsequently, a month later,
- 4:57Speaker 2: applied for asylum. Now tell me why wasn't that a
- 5:00Speaker 2: red flag clearly here under false pretenses, then overstays his visa. Biden,
- 5:07Speaker 2: of course, was doing everything he could to keep illegal
- 5:10Speaker 2: in the country rather than get them out, and he
- 5:13Speaker 2: overstays that visa, turns it into a work permit. All
- 5:17Speaker 2: of a sudden, the guy is driving for uber Why.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I have no idea. You have to have a social
- 5:22Speaker 2: Security number, you like, there's a whole process, right, he
- 5:27Speaker 2: didn't have that and he was never deported, so he
- 5:31Speaker 2: but what it was all said and done, His initial visa,
- 5:34Speaker 2: his claim for asylum, and his temporary work visa all
- 5:37Speaker 2: had expired. So he's in this country illegally. I cannot
- 5:41Speaker 2: emphasize enough the need for a zero tolerance policy when
- 5:46Speaker 2: it comes to our broken immigration system. There can be
- 5:50Speaker 2: no gray area. And I say that because you give
- 5:54Speaker 2: an inch, they'll take a mile. And this is what
- 5:57Speaker 2: is happening. You see this with the student visas. Listen,
- 6:00Speaker 2: they can hate us for free. We don't need to
- 6:02Speaker 2: pay for education for kids that want to come here
- 6:05Speaker 2: in cite violence and unrest in our country. They can
- 6:08Speaker 2: do that from whatever crap hole around the world they
- 6:12Speaker 2: want to do it from. And if these free Palestine
- 6:15Speaker 2: kids want to go free Palestine, so bad, Go to Daza,
- 6:19Speaker 2: Go to Daza and see what happens. I am so
- 6:23Speaker 2: frustrated with the lack of enforcement. And this spans Republican
- 6:28Speaker 2: and Democrat administrations and we've never had a serious attempt
- 6:35Speaker 2: that has even gotten close to fixing it. President Trump
- 6:38Speaker 2: has been excellent at securing the borders. We're ninety eight
- 6:40Speaker 2: ninety nine percent border secure, which is incredible considering where
- 6:45Speaker 2: we've come from under the totally open border, open borders
- 6:49Speaker 2: of Biden. But on top of that, we have millions
- 6:53Speaker 2: upon millions of individuals who have overstayed tourist visas, work visas,
- 6:57Speaker 2: and that needs to be addressed. There should be very
- 7:01Speaker 2: simply a process by which you self deport. If we
- 7:05Speaker 2: know who has overstayed because they haven't left the country,
- 7:09Speaker 2: is they don't have a paid ticket in thirty days
- 7:13Speaker 2: of when they're supposed to be out of the country,
- 7:16Speaker 2: then we need to go pick them up. Like that
- 7:18Speaker 2: is very simple in my mind. And so there's other
- 7:22Speaker 2: things coming out the USAID STEF I have I read
- 7:25Speaker 2: a little bit about it, and it looks like there
- 7:27Speaker 2: was a piece of paper that said USAID it doesn't
- 7:29Speaker 2: mean to me that there's any real connection there. I
- 7:34Speaker 2: think it's important that we focus on the fact that
- 7:36Speaker 2: this guy was in the country illegally won that was
- 7:39Speaker 2: a failure of the system to get him out. To
- 7:43Speaker 2: gun free zones kill people, they hurt people. And yet
- 7:48Speaker 2: another example of a gun free zone where someone was
- 7:52Speaker 2: committing an act of violence, an act of terror, and
- 7:55Speaker 2: everyone's standing around recording on their phones. A lot of
- 7:58Speaker 2: people were helping victims, but this guy was walking around
- 8:02Speaker 2: shouting free Palestine and not what I tell you. One
- 8:05Speaker 2: person who was concealed carrying could have taken him down,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and a lot of people probably wouldn't be injured today
- 8:12Speaker 2: if that had been the case. But Cleverer is an
- 8:14Speaker 2: exceptionally liberal city, and this is going to continue until
- 8:18Speaker 2: people start waking up.
- 8:19Speaker 1: We're about to go to break. But do me a
- 8:21Speaker 1: favor and make note of any Democrat members of Congress
- 8:27Speaker 1: in the House that are going to make some kind
- 8:30Speaker 1: of legislative proposal to ban glass bottles and cloth, because
- 8:37Speaker 1: of course those were used to create a device that
- 8:41Speaker 1: was used in a mass attack, and so I think
- 8:46Speaker 1: it's important that we get rid of glass bottles and
- 8:48Speaker 1: all clothing, don't you absolutely.
- 8:51Speaker 2: You know, I think I'm gonna I'm going to go
- 8:53Speaker 2: talk to AOC when I see her later today. Yes,
- 8:57Speaker 2: on the floor.
- 9:02Speaker 1: A few more minutes with US Congress when Kat Camick
- 9:05Speaker 1: from Florida's third Congressional District CAT. We've talked in the
- 9:08Speaker 1: last few weeks here on the show about several stories
- 9:11Speaker 1: where courts have stepped in, and I think sometimes it's
- 9:16Speaker 1: about defining boundaries. And I know that the President and
- 9:20Speaker 1: the administration is trying to nudge certain issues in front
- 9:25Speaker 1: of the Supreme Court to get some definition. But I
- 9:29Speaker 1: want to use the issue of the illegal immigration thing
- 9:32Speaker 1: because it's obviously it's very newsworthy right now. And we
- 9:36Speaker 1: did some math and if we used the number, which
- 9:38Speaker 1: is probably low, of ten million illegals, it would take
- 9:42Speaker 1: seven and a half years if we adjudicated eight of
- 9:45Speaker 1: them per day among the six hundred and seventy seven
- 9:49Speaker 1: authorized federal district judges to deal with this. I say
- 9:54Speaker 1: all that to ask this question, are are members of
- 9:58Speaker 1: Congress talking about the thing things that Congress has to
- 10:01Speaker 1: do in order to address, for example, this issue. This
- 10:06Speaker 1: was intentionally done. We know this to crash the immigration system.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Biden Obama whoever was behind it all, it was orchestrated.
- 10:14Speaker 1: What can Congress do now in response to address it?
- 10:19Speaker 2: Oh boy, I don't know if there's enough time for
- 10:22Speaker 2: us to go through all the things that Congress can do.
- 10:28Speaker 2: The much shorterless is what Congress will do. It comes
- 10:32Speaker 2: as no surprise, certainly, that there is a lack of
- 10:35Speaker 2: will or desire to undertake immigration in Congress. And that's
- 10:41Speaker 2: not unique to this particular Congress one hundred and nineteenth.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It's something that we've seen. It's, you know, partially what
- 10:49Speaker 2: I ran on. You know, we need no more chicken
- 10:51Speaker 2: craft politicians. And you get up there, you start talking
- 10:56Speaker 2: about the need to really fix the broken immigration system. Uh,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and people say, oh, we'll deal with that after the
- 11:04Speaker 2: mid terms. Oh, we'll deal with that after the next election.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Oh we'll deal with that. It's always the next election.
- 11:11Speaker 2: That's the you always hear. The border security thing was
- 11:15Speaker 2: absolutely wild to me, because I don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Independent,
- 11:19Speaker 2: Green Party, you know, liberty, it doesn't matter. No nation
- 11:24Speaker 2: is a true nation, a sovereign one if you don't
- 11:27Speaker 2: have borders. And they effectively broke the borders under the
- 11:30Speaker 2: Biden administration, and so the fact that we've had to
- 11:33Speaker 2: spend as much money, time, resources dedicated to just enforcing
- 11:39Speaker 2: the laws on the books at the border is wild
- 11:42Speaker 2: to me. Then you get into all these specialty things,
- 11:45Speaker 2: the high the high tech visa, the you know which,
- 11:49Speaker 2: By the way, why are we giving high tech visas
- 11:53Speaker 2: out in these these weird lotteries, arbitrary cap things That
- 11:58Speaker 2: doesn't make sense because you where it becomes an unfair
- 12:02Speaker 2: playing field where companies will hire these so called high
- 12:06Speaker 2: tech people at lower wages and basically exploit these people
- 12:13Speaker 2: instead of hiring people here in the country already. And
- 12:16Speaker 2: so there's a lot of things that we could do
- 12:17Speaker 2: to fix it. H Two A, the low skilled worker
- 12:21Speaker 2: that our agriculture industry depends on. That system is so
- 12:25Speaker 2: fundamentally broken and by the way, it doesn't work here
- 12:28Speaker 2: in Florida, where you're around producing states, it does not
- 12:33Speaker 2: make sense. You have to address the guest worker side
- 12:36Speaker 2: of it. You've got to actually simplify it. But then
- 12:38Speaker 2: you have to enforce the dang laws on the books
- 12:40Speaker 2: so you don't have people like that wacko who's overstaying
- 12:43Speaker 2: their vivas. People who have saved and sacrificed and done
- 12:47Speaker 2: this the right way. It's a real slap in the
- 12:49Speaker 2: face to those that are now in the country illegally
- 12:52Speaker 2: and are going through an amnesty process with no real
- 12:58Speaker 2: case to be made as to why it qualified. It's
- 13:01Speaker 2: going to require outrage and the demand from the American people.
- 13:05Speaker 2: That's really what it comes down to. Because Congress is
- 13:08Speaker 2: scared of their shadow. With a margin of four votes
- 13:12Speaker 2: in the House, people are just not willing to take
- 13:16Speaker 2: it up. And I know for me, it's a huge issue.
- 13:19Speaker 2: We talk about it all the time. I've asked the
- 13:21Speaker 2: chairman of the ad Committee countless times when we can
- 13:24Speaker 2: do something. Oh, we'll do that after the Farm bill. Oh, Kat,
- 13:27Speaker 2: we'll do that after the next election. Kat, we're going
- 13:30Speaker 2: to tell that next. It's always the next thing.
- 13:33Speaker 1: But Kat, let me just ask you. The calculus is done.
- 13:38Speaker 1: That's why Trump got elected. He got elected. He's the
- 13:41Speaker 1: only one in Congress around Congress in Washington elected by
- 13:47Speaker 1: the nation. The nation decided that. And I know you agree.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'm not I'm preaching to the choir, but but how
- 13:54Speaker 1: can they keep saying, oh, well, we got away when
- 13:57Speaker 1: this is one of the main main reasons and it's
- 14:00Speaker 1: still is why he was elected.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I honestly, I know this is going to I don't
- 14:05Speaker 2: mean to sounds trite, but winning that election is just
- 14:09Speaker 2: the first step really seriously making the reforms to drain
- 14:14Speaker 2: the swamp and fix the systems that are broken requires
- 14:17Speaker 2: eternal vigilance. That is the problem is. I think we
- 14:23Speaker 2: forgot long long time ago, when they were still teaching
- 14:26Speaker 2: civics in school, that it's not enough just to go
- 14:29Speaker 2: out and vote. But you have five tenants of the
- 14:32Speaker 2: First Amendment for a reason, which includes petitioning your government
- 14:35Speaker 2: and assembly peaceful assembly. I should add the people who
- 14:40Speaker 2: petition their government. When I mean that, it's very rarely
- 14:44Speaker 2: do I see everyday folks coming up to Washington or
- 14:48Speaker 2: coming to our office to voice their concerns and talk
- 14:52Speaker 2: to their member. And we try to encourage people to
- 14:54Speaker 2: come to our office and meet with me. Just this
- 14:56Speaker 2: last week, I met with twenty five different constituents groups
- 15:01Speaker 2: in our district offices, and I mean it was everybody
- 15:04Speaker 2: from as liberal as you can get to as conservative
- 15:06Speaker 2: as you can get. I met with honeybee keepers, I
- 15:09Speaker 2: met with clam farmers, I met with teachers. You know,
- 15:13Speaker 2: you meet with all these people, but you have to
- 15:16Speaker 2: and you've got to get people out to actually do it.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And I think people think that yelling on Facebook and
- 15:23Speaker 2: being a keyboard warrior and leaving some nasty comment on
- 15:27Speaker 2: their politician or their member of Congress's page is doing something.
- 15:33Speaker 2: You have to engage and really make your voice heard.
- 15:36Speaker 2: And that's where I'm always trying to say. The part
- 15:38Speaker 2: of the people is unrealized and we can only do
- 15:42Speaker 2: so much in Congress. We need the backing of the
- 15:45Speaker 2: American people. This is the call to get involved. It's
- 15:49Speaker 2: not enough just to get out and vote. You have
- 15:51Speaker 2: to exercise your First Amendment right and stay engaged.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Kat Is always thanks so much of the time. We
- 15:56Speaker 1: appreciate all you do and what you're doing when trying
- 15:59Speaker 1: to do on Capitol Hill. Thanks for the time today,
- 16:02Speaker 1: appreciate it.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Go get her.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Oh that was cold? That was so cold? She dropped
- 16:07Speaker 1: that in. Are they still playing baseball in Gainesville today?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Did I did? Did Florida advance to the Super regionals?
- 16:15Speaker 1: I'm just curious, but look, hey, they've had a good
- 16:19Speaker 1: year on a lot of sports, just not all of them.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Twenty eight minutes after the hour, love Cat Camick here
- 16:27Speaker 1: on the Morning Show with Preston Scott
