- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to episode twenty of Inside the Bus. Jared's
- 0:05Speaker 1: got he uh. This episode twenty, we had to have
- 0:10Speaker 1: one of the greatest guests of all time, the future
- 0:14Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, Titans Hall of Famer, and just one
- 0:17Speaker 1: of the overall, just one of the boys.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Give it up for Delaney Walker. Thank y'all, Thank y'all,
- 0:24Speaker 2: thank y'all for having me.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I think, hands down our favorite doubt of the talent,
- 0:29Speaker 3: without a doubt. From day one. Always has shown love.
- 0:32Speaker 3: He always comes to the back chops it up. There's
- 0:34Speaker 3: a lot of stories that Delaney has for us that
- 0:36Speaker 3: can't be shared on podcasts.
- 0:39Speaker 2: But he is here.
- 0:40Speaker 4: He has created and added.
- 0:42Speaker 3: To the culture of the back of the bus more
- 0:44Speaker 3: than for sure, than anybody for sure.
- 0:46Speaker 1: And that's why this is this question that I was
- 0:48Speaker 1: gonna I was talking about before. I feel like this
- 0:50Speaker 1: question is only for Delaney and like he can only
- 0:53Speaker 1: answer it. What was your first impression of each guy
- 0:56Speaker 1: in the back since you've been You've been around to
- 0:58Speaker 1: so much, you've hung out with so much, coming back
- 1:01Speaker 1: and just chop it up, what is your first impression
- 1:03Speaker 1: to beat you all us?
- 1:06Speaker 5: That's a good question, to be honest, with y'all because
- 1:08Speaker 5: all y'all have something different about y'all but similar, you
- 1:12Speaker 5: know what I mean? Right, definitely all white, for sure,
- 1:16Speaker 5: all white, but uh, y'all just do something different. Y'all
- 1:20Speaker 5: carry y'allself different, but when y'all get around each other,
- 1:23Speaker 5: y'all kind of almost have that same thinking mindset.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And I like that.
- 1:28Speaker 5: But the first thing about you guys was I said
- 1:32Speaker 5: what I thought about y'all were y'all go getters, bro
- 1:36Speaker 5: Because I can remember from the beginning. I don't know
- 1:38Speaker 5: if y'all was getting paid to do this or whatnot,
- 1:41Speaker 5: but y'are not like y'all were grinding, you know, just
- 1:47Speaker 5: seeing the videos whatever coming out, and honestly, like I
- 1:52Speaker 5: can remember the first I don't know how many people
- 1:54Speaker 5: worked on that first episode, but that first episode went crazy,
- 1:58Speaker 5: and I think I got even more popular over fuck
- 2:03Speaker 5: what it was? It It was, uh, these stories, draft,
- 2:05Speaker 5: the type, no draft, the tight end, he won't fucking
- 2:08Speaker 5: play like that. Ship went crazy, right, And then I realized,
- 2:11Speaker 5: like they these dudes get it. You know what I'm saying,
- 2:14Speaker 5: y'all get y'all get what makes ship works. Because even
- 2:18Speaker 5: in the content now, people be like who man, you crazy?
- 2:21Speaker 5: You funny how you put that together? And I'm like,
- 2:23Speaker 5: it ain't me, It ain't me. It's this dudes that
- 2:27Speaker 5: when you see him, you probably wouldn't even think they
- 2:29Speaker 5: were doing that type of ship.
- 2:31Speaker 6: Y'all athletes, Yeah yeah, now yeah, y'all kind of y'all
- 2:37Speaker 6: got athletic abilities, you know what I'm saying, for the
- 2:39Speaker 6: most part, Yeah, for the most part.
- 2:41Speaker 5: I mean Jared, Jared is the gangster. You know, he
- 2:48Speaker 5: he didn't play sports. He you know, pull up, rolling
- 2:53Speaker 5: with the with the burner. You know, he he willing
- 2:56Speaker 5: to sacrifice his life. No, but all you guys, man,
- 3:01Speaker 5: y'all seem like y'all was like college dudes and then
- 3:04Speaker 5: y'all has y'all.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Was hungry to be successful, and uh, that's what I like.
- 3:08Speaker 5: I like y'all. I feel like I kind of relate
- 3:11Speaker 5: to y'all more than I relate to and Taylor. I
- 3:15Speaker 5: don't know why, but that's what I feel right like,
- 3:17Speaker 5: because after we get down with the show, it's like I.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Don't care about talking to them, you know what I'm saying.
- 3:22Speaker 5: I come want to talk to y'all in the back
- 3:24Speaker 5: because the conversations are more real.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I think I feel interest like you're just.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Back at college, just hanging with a bunch of white
- 3:30Speaker 1: dudes again talking about random shit.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what they feel like.
- 3:33Speaker 5: To be honest with is like I can I know
- 3:35Speaker 5: I'm older than everybody in here, but like when I
- 3:37Speaker 5: come around you guys, I feel like I'm one of y'all.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And that goes to y'all just accepting me. You know
- 3:44Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 3:44Speaker 5: I know I'm crazy as hell, and uh, the stories
- 3:47Speaker 5: we talk about. Then sometimes I get y'all to open
- 3:50Speaker 5: up about personal stuff, and that's what I like about
- 3:53Speaker 5: it because we kind of we throw punches at each
- 3:55Speaker 5: other and keep it moving.
- 3:58Speaker 7: So while working on the topic of you remind you
- 4:00Speaker 7: of maybe those college days, give us a little background
- 4:03Speaker 7: story for anyone who's not aware of where you're from
- 4:06Speaker 7: and how you got to where you were in college,
- 4:08Speaker 7: and then then we can kind of go from there
- 4:10Speaker 7: because I know there's gonna be a few listeners and
- 4:11Speaker 7: maybe this is the first time hearing from you, but
- 4:13Speaker 7: majority of probably nine nine percent, I heard everything but.
- 4:19Speaker 2: The one.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Oh yeah, So first I'll start off, I'm from Los Angeles, California.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Long story, but I'm gonna give y'all that shirt short version.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Highly recruited in college, but I got I mean in
- 4:32Speaker 5: high school, but I got in trouble. I got a
- 4:34Speaker 5: felony salt and battery coming out of high school, so
- 4:38Speaker 5: I couldn't leave. To stay at California for two years.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Pretty much did the Juco route. But when I was
- 4:44Speaker 5: in Juco, man, I was just I was still around
- 4:47Speaker 5: the same people, you know what I mean, and they
- 4:49Speaker 5: didn't care for my future. And I didn't care for
- 4:52Speaker 5: my future as much as neither because if I did
- 4:55Speaker 5: the things that I did, obviously I didn't. But I
- 4:57Speaker 5: had another opportunity. Man, Thank god for the Central Missouri state.
- 5:01Speaker 5: They saw something in me. Was like, look, we want
- 5:03Speaker 5: to give you a shot. We want you to come
- 5:05Speaker 5: up here to Central Missouri. First off, never heard of
- 5:09Speaker 5: Central Missouri, never thought I would be in Missouri. So
- 5:11Speaker 5: I get to Missouri madominantly white school.
- 5:15Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Like, Well, I get there and catch like if you black,
- 5:17Speaker 5: you either play sports or ship you you you want
- 5:21Speaker 5: to be white.
- 5:22Speaker 4: So at the time.
- 5:25Speaker 5: So yeah, I know, I was like, Okay, it's either
- 5:28Speaker 5: one shit. I guess I would choose to play sports
- 5:31Speaker 5: for right now. But so I get there, I stay
- 5:35Speaker 5: in the Dorn for the first year, I ain't really
- 5:38Speaker 5: meet a lot of people. But then I met this
- 5:40Speaker 5: guy named Corey Bringers, white guy. You know, Corey is
- 5:47Speaker 5: still my dog. I still I still talk to him
- 5:49Speaker 5: every once in a while. But so he plays safety
- 5:52Speaker 5: and I was like, damn, man, I want to learn
- 5:55Speaker 5: how to talk to white girls.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And he like what you mean?
- 5:59Speaker 5: Yeah, he like what your I never talked to a
- 6:01Speaker 5: white girl before, right, So, like Cau's coming from where
- 6:04Speaker 5: I lived, it wasn't too many white girls. And if
- 6:06Speaker 5: it was a white girl in our neighborhood, she was
- 6:08Speaker 5: fucking busty, ratchet, disgusting. I ain't talking to at you
- 6:13Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. She talking black and all that bullshit.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I don't want that.
- 6:18Speaker 5: So he's like, you know what, move in with me
- 6:20Speaker 5: and my roommate. So it was three of those dudes
- 6:22Speaker 5: living in this house. And he was like, you want
- 6:23Speaker 5: to move in with us? So I said, yeah, let's
- 6:25Speaker 5: do it. I move in with him. I never drank
- 6:28Speaker 5: natty light, I mean fireball chewing. I mean I went
- 6:37Speaker 5: up in there and my whole, my whole attitude changed
- 6:41Speaker 5: on life, Like I realized I was stuck in a box. Man,
- 6:44Speaker 5: my whole life, I've been stuck in the box, and
- 6:46Speaker 5: I never experienced anything fun. And then when I got
- 6:49Speaker 5: the Central and I lived with Corey and them, they
- 6:51Speaker 5: took me snowboarding, they took me to the beach, They
- 6:53Speaker 5: took me.
- 6:54Speaker 2: They pretty much showed me what I was missing out
- 6:56Speaker 2: my whole entire life. And I love hanging with them.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Like it was.
- 7:01Speaker 5: I remember like some for like the fraternity dudes would
- 7:04Speaker 5: come like, man, why are you always messing with white boys?
- 7:06Speaker 5: Like why you always hang with those white boys? And
- 7:08Speaker 5: I'd be mad, like them my dogs, like you know
- 7:11Speaker 5: what I'm saying, in my roommates, them my boys, Like
- 7:13Speaker 5: any day you want to test them, you're gonna have
- 7:16Speaker 5: to chop it up with me, because they showed me love.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And I never seen that before.
- 7:23Speaker 5: You know, like I said, I come from the hood,
- 7:24Speaker 5: so like we've been always tall. You gotta be careful,
- 7:27Speaker 5: you gotta do this, be careful around them. And but
- 7:29Speaker 5: when I got there, it was like they didn't even
- 7:32Speaker 5: see it that way. They were just like, bro, we brothers,
- 7:34Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. And I love that about
- 7:36Speaker 5: them because I was different. You know, they had to
- 7:39Speaker 5: relate to me because I was totally different, and I
- 7:41Speaker 5: was saying things I've never seen before.
- 7:44Speaker 2: That made me just be like, damn, why they doing this?
- 7:47Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, not understanding it, but being
- 7:50Speaker 5: there made me understand life is bigger than where we
- 7:54Speaker 5: all come from, right because everybody gotta value differences because
- 7:59Speaker 5: we don't know how that person grew up. And uh,
- 8:02Speaker 5: they opened my eyes to a lot of stuff, man,
- 8:04Speaker 5: and I was thankful. And then that goes to your
- 8:06Speaker 5: question on why hang like hanging with y'all because y'all
- 8:09Speaker 5: give me those vibes like it's the same. It's like,
- 8:12Speaker 5: I don't care where d he come from. I don't
- 8:13Speaker 5: care who he is. He cool with us, he acts
- 8:16Speaker 5: like us. I fuck with him, and that's what I'm
- 8:19Speaker 5: used to. So anytime I can relate to that, I
- 8:22Speaker 5: kind of I guess I cling onto it, you know
- 8:25Speaker 5: what I mean?
- 8:27Speaker 2: That makes sense right there? So that's real.
- 8:29Speaker 7: Wait, I remember back in the day, I don't know
- 8:31Speaker 7: it was a couple of years ago. You talked about
- 8:33Speaker 7: how when you first got there, those boys took you
- 8:35Speaker 7: out like shopping and got your like new clothes.
- 8:37Speaker 8: You gotta you gotta least.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Yes, like I told half of it when I told
- 8:45Speaker 5: her I wanted to get white chicks. And he really
- 8:48Speaker 5: was like, dressed like that. That's how he told me,
- 8:51Speaker 5: Like you look like an La like Hood movie. You
- 8:54Speaker 5: know I was wearing at this time, I was wearing
- 8:56Speaker 5: Jaebol's size forty two. I was wearing fire ix t
- 9:01Speaker 5: like the te came down to my knees, ankles, like
- 9:05Speaker 5: I'm talking about double.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I'm wearing boxers, basketball shorts.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Jeans, anything. I'm ready for anything. You know, I'm ready
- 9:17Speaker 5: for anything. So he was like, dude, you're not gonna
- 9:20Speaker 5: get no white girls out here like that. I'm like,
- 9:23Speaker 5: I'm pimping you know what I'm saying. He's like, no,
- 9:25Speaker 5: trust me you. We gotta take you to Armored Cambrie fit.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Is that how you say.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Abercmbrish, Yes, it is exactly I said.
- 9:36Speaker 5: So he takes me there. I walk in there. I'm like,
- 9:38Speaker 5: ain't nothing in here gonna fit me? Like that's what
- 9:41Speaker 5: I was thinking, because you know, you you walk in,
- 9:43Speaker 5: you know, the first thing you see the white boy
- 9:44Speaker 5: with his shirt off.
- 9:46Speaker 2: He got the jeans on no belt.
- 9:48Speaker 7: That was back when Abercombie, like the marketing for it
- 9:51Speaker 7: was literally just shirtless, ripped gans.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Smelt was crazy.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:58Speaker 5: That's when I went in there and I'm like, dude,
- 10:03Speaker 5: for real, like for real. And then he was like,
- 10:05Speaker 5: don't worry, you know what I'm saying, tar these on.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I come out like and they kind of tight. You
- 10:11Speaker 2: know what I'm saying.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Everything was tight, Everything was tight. But he gonna put
- 10:14Speaker 5: these in, put these shoes.
- 10:15Speaker 2: On with them. I'm like, oh, ship come together now.
- 10:23Speaker 8: The boy look at all right.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He was like, try these rainbows.
- 10:26Speaker 5: I'm like, man, nigga, nigga, don't wear open toe to
- 10:29Speaker 5: uh sandals, you know what I'm saying. I just never
- 10:32Speaker 5: done that before. I never wore sandals without socks, you
- 10:36Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. So like when they shot me those,
- 10:39Speaker 5: I tried to slide them on with the socks. I'm like,
- 10:44Speaker 5: I'm like, yo, the sock the things they won't go through,
- 10:48Speaker 5: so they like, you gotta take your socks off. I
- 10:51Speaker 5: ain't gonna carry it. Took me a while to really
- 10:54Speaker 5: buy into the no socks, but when I did, we
- 10:56Speaker 5: had went to a day party first Darty. It was
- 11:01Speaker 5: like that I was a new student and I already
- 11:05Speaker 5: had been here. Everybody is like, hey, who are you.
- 11:08Speaker 5: I'm like, I'm like, I'm number three.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Wait, you're number three? Oh my god? You know after that,
- 11:17Speaker 2: I'm swimming, I'm blowing them back. I'm going back. I'm
- 11:23Speaker 2: I'm going to uh navy blue.
- 11:27Speaker 5: I'm going to all the spots like, oh yeah, it's
- 11:30Speaker 5: time to wear a little tighter d.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Here killing old.
- 11:41Speaker 8: That's so body.
- 11:42Speaker 9: It literally feels like like it'd be like a movie,
- 11:45Speaker 9: like the reverse, Like like I don't know what it be,
- 11:47Speaker 9: but it's like just two white dudes taking this dude
- 11:50Speaker 9: from fucking like La Central and they're like we're on
- 11:53Speaker 9: deck them out and then all of a sudden, you
- 11:54Speaker 9: just take over the town.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Take over.
- 11:56Speaker 5: I mean, I'm wearing I go back home. Cats like, well,
- 11:59Speaker 5: what the fuck are you wearing? Like my homies like,
- 12:02Speaker 5: what are you wearing?
- 12:03Speaker 2: Bro?
- 12:03Speaker 5: I'm like, oh bro, yeah, I'm like, Yo, this is it.
- 12:07Speaker 5: I'm telling like, hey, this is it. This is how
- 12:09Speaker 5: you bust down. I'm like, We're gonna go to Ontario Mills.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Watch how many white bitches I bust they like should
- 12:14Speaker 5: wear to God? Can I cut yeah. Yeah, So I'm like,
- 12:18Speaker 5: let's do it. We go to the meals. I'm I'm like,
- 12:20Speaker 5: hey there, I'm just walking up.
- 12:22Speaker 2: They like you tripping. I'm locking up the white girls.
- 12:24Speaker 2: How you doing? They're like, yeah, are you like this? Yeah?
- 12:27Speaker 2: You know I got these in Missouri.
- 12:28Speaker 5: They don't have them out here yet, like right, killing them,
- 12:31Speaker 5: busting to my homies.
- 12:32Speaker 2: They start switching. They let's start switching. They shot me
- 12:36Speaker 2: a v ads go. I'm like, oh yeah, yeah that was.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Gone remotely gentrifying his old neighborhood.
- 12:44Speaker 2: They all dressed like me.
- 12:45Speaker 8: Now that's so.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Go sides down, yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Go sides down always like if you if you, if
- 12:53Speaker 5: you get too much goal sides down, I say, and
- 12:55Speaker 5: find a stretchy ones. They bust so once I got
- 12:59Speaker 5: put on, it was overweight. They couldn't tell me nothing
- 13:01Speaker 5: at the school, dude, isn't it.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Like would you change your journey at all?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Nah? Nah?
- 13:07Speaker 3: And inn't that crazy because I'm sure in those first
- 13:09Speaker 3: two years, like if you're when you're in juco or
- 13:12Speaker 3: when you're leaving high school knowing you can't go to
- 13:13Speaker 3: big schools, probably like man, I wish I could do
- 13:15Speaker 3: this differently.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Then you get forward. It's like, no, that was the
- 13:18Speaker 4: best thing that could happen.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like it was the best thing that
- 13:20Speaker 2: could have happened to me.
- 13:21Speaker 5: But honestly, if I was to say, like that route
- 13:24Speaker 5: I took, no, I would not want to take that route.
- 13:26Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying. Like it was hard. It
- 13:28Speaker 5: was hard, but it was hard because of me, you
- 13:30Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. Like people sit here and be
- 13:32Speaker 5: blaming other people all the time for like situational stuff,
- 13:35Speaker 5: but it was really me. I could have chose not
- 13:37Speaker 5: to hang with the hommies. I could have went to
- 13:40Speaker 5: school every day, you know what I'm saying. I could
- 13:41Speaker 5: have done those things, but I didn't want to at
- 13:44Speaker 5: that time.
- 13:45Speaker 2: So was it the right thing for me? Maybe? You
- 13:47Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 13:48Speaker 5: Because going to Central opened up my eyes because Willie Fritz,
- 13:52Speaker 5: that was my head coach at the time, he uh
- 13:54Speaker 5: he coaching at Houston right now, he was on me,
- 14:00Speaker 5: on me.
- 14:01Speaker 2: At first.
- 14:01Speaker 5: I didn't like Willie, like I didn't understand him. You know,
- 14:06Speaker 5: I didn't know what he wanted from me. As I
- 14:09Speaker 5: thought he just hated me because I was from California.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Because the first thing he told me and I'm sure
- 14:14Speaker 5: you probably tell everybody this now because I made it.
- 14:18Speaker 5: I come in. He goes one thing. I gotta tell you.
- 14:21Speaker 5: I go what he goes, I hate people from California.
- 14:26Speaker 5: I was tooking back. Yeah, I was tooking back. I said,
- 14:30Speaker 5: oh okay. He said, you want to know why. I
- 14:32Speaker 5: said sure.
- 14:34Speaker 2: He says, three weeks for three reasons, y'all smoked dope,
- 14:39Speaker 2: y'all rape bitches, and y'all game bangers. He didn't say bitches,
- 14:44Speaker 2: he said, he said yeah. He said everything he said,
- 14:48Speaker 2: y'all rapist pretty much. He was like, y'all rapist. I'm like,
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm not two of those things. Here's where you got
- 14:56Speaker 2: it all wrong, where you got it all wrong. But
- 15:00Speaker 2: you know he told me that. He said, prove me wrong,
- 15:03Speaker 2: show me who you really are. Yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 5: I walked out of that room like, fuck this, dude.
- 15:07Speaker 5: I ain't even gonna lie. I said, man, fuck Willie Fritz.
- 15:10Speaker 5: I got on the phone and I called my juco coach.
- 15:13Speaker 5: I said, I made a mistake. I want to leave.
- 15:15Speaker 5: He said, d you can't leave like you you there,
- 15:19Speaker 5: you signed the paper. If you leave, you're gona have
- 15:20Speaker 5: to sit out a year.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I'm like, God, oh fuck it.
- 15:25Speaker 5: I'm like, okay, whatever i'ma I'm gonna take I'm gonna
- 15:27Speaker 5: bite this bullet. And then it was every day Willy
- 15:29Speaker 5: just picked on me, picked on and picked on picked
- 15:31Speaker 5: on me. But it like now a as the as
- 15:34Speaker 5: the picture clears, he was just trying to make me
- 15:36Speaker 5: a man, right, Like I was a big ass kid
- 15:40Speaker 5: coming into a place where they teach you how to
- 15:44Speaker 5: become a man.
- 15:45Speaker 2: But I was fighting that right.
- 15:47Speaker 10: At what point do you think you realized what he was, like,
- 15:49Speaker 10: how hard he was on you, was for the right reason,
- 15:52Speaker 10: or did you leave Central Missouri still being like fuck
- 15:55Speaker 10: that dude?
- 15:58Speaker 2: I left Central Missouri like fuck that.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I was like fuck Willie Fritz, Like I don't
- 16:03Speaker 5: want nothing to do with Willie, but I think I
- 16:06Speaker 5: will say year three in the NFL. Everything he was
- 16:12Speaker 5: teaching me was coming to life, right, So I was like, God,
- 16:16Speaker 5: damn will He told me about this will. He told
- 16:19Speaker 5: me about this will. He said this was gonna happen.
- 16:21Speaker 5: You know. It was just like life lessons was flashing
- 16:24Speaker 5: through my eye and he cared about me.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I growing up where I grew up.
- 16:29Speaker 5: I didn't know that's how another man would care for
- 16:32Speaker 5: another man, you know, because I never seen it like
- 16:34Speaker 5: that before.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Like he was hard on me, but he pushed me.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, but he pushed me.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Like like I didn't get it what he was doing.
- 16:43Speaker 5: Like I ran every day on Wednesday, me and him.
- 16:45Speaker 5: He'll come get me at five thirty in the morning
- 16:47Speaker 5: and we would run and he would run with me, though,
- 16:50Speaker 5: but beat me, like just beat me, just bad. And
- 16:54Speaker 5: I'm like, he was like, until you can beat me,
- 16:56Speaker 5: We're gonna do this all day. I'm like, oh, damn me.
- 17:00Speaker 5: So I did it until my senior year and then
- 17:02Speaker 5: finally my senior year. I don't know, he just I
- 17:04Speaker 5: guess I kind of woke up. I stopped being as
- 17:06Speaker 5: crazy in my senior year, and he kind of let
- 17:09Speaker 5: me alone. But when we lose a game, he'll be
- 17:10Speaker 5: like you. He'll come up on the board, he'll be like,
- 17:13Speaker 5: y'all know what we lost? And then he'll call Somebody'll
- 17:16Speaker 5: be like, hey, Greg, why did we lose this game?
- 17:18Speaker 5: And then he'll be like, oh, man, we had too
- 17:20Speaker 5: many turnovers. She'd be like, Nope, that's not it. He'd
- 17:23Speaker 5: be like, yeah, why would we lose this game. You'd
- 17:26Speaker 5: be like, oh, man, we didn't tackle well in the rezon. Nope,
- 17:29Speaker 5: that's not it. He'd be like, I'm gonna tell y'all all,
- 17:31Speaker 5: we lost this game because the Laney did not play well.
- 17:36Speaker 2: That's crazy, Like damn much.
- 17:39Speaker 7: Were you like head of those shoulders, the best guy
- 17:41Speaker 7: on your team?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, I had crazy.
- 17:47Speaker 2: It was.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Crazy, was crazy.
- 17:50Speaker 5: I was going ham but you know he knew it
- 17:54Speaker 5: so hard to sit in there and hear that over
- 17:57Speaker 5: and over.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Bro, I would sit there.
- 17:58Speaker 5: I mean we only we only lost two games my
- 18:02Speaker 5: we lost one. We lost one game my first year,
- 18:05Speaker 5: and then we lost two games my second year.
- 18:08Speaker 2: And uh yeah. It used to be tough.
- 18:10Speaker 5: But I'll be sitting in the meeting, bro, like I
- 18:13Speaker 5: wouldn't even be zoned out.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I'll just be zoned out.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Like because my receiver coach during h we used to
- 18:21Speaker 5: tell me like, don't let it get to you, because
- 18:24Speaker 5: if you let it get to you, he won. Yeah,
- 18:27Speaker 5: And I'm like, I don't know what that means, Like
- 18:29Speaker 5: he getting to me.
- 18:30Speaker 10: Like perfect like coach in your position room to like
- 18:37Speaker 10: kind of combat with the head coach is saying, but
- 18:39Speaker 10: also being like listen to him, but don't let it.
- 18:43Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, And he would do that all
- 18:47Speaker 5: the time. A third coach H hell of a coach man.
- 18:51Speaker 5: He used to him and his wife and his kids.
- 18:54Speaker 5: They would bring me to dinner every week because he
- 18:56Speaker 5: would be like, man, I know you can be.
- 18:59Speaker 2: A good kid.
- 19:00Speaker 5: I see it, like you're a hell of a player,
- 19:03Speaker 5: but that needs to carry over off the field.
- 19:06Speaker 2: So they would just we would have dinner.
- 19:09Speaker 5: I would sit with his family, talk to his wife she,
- 19:11Speaker 5: you know, have conversations with them. Just they'd be like,
- 19:13Speaker 5: how you feeling what's going on? Like yeah, just like
- 19:18Speaker 5: and I knew coach wasn't gonna tell the head coach
- 19:20Speaker 5: because I didn't told him stuff and he ain't never
- 19:23Speaker 5: went back, So I kind of had trust in this man.
- 19:25Speaker 5: And and UH and him and Willie you know what
- 19:29Speaker 5: I mean. They he hired Darren h just to coach me.
- 19:33Speaker 5: He literally told me, like I hired this guy so
- 19:36Speaker 5: he could coach you.
- 19:38Speaker 2: And I'm like, what where is that coach H from? Uh?
- 19:41Speaker 5: He had just came from Arizona State, so and he
- 19:45Speaker 5: knew about me because I had took a trip up
- 19:47Speaker 5: the Arizona State So.
- 19:48Speaker 2: There H knew about me. So that's why he came
- 19:50Speaker 2: out there.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Another great story from yeah yeah, oh yeah, that was.
- 19:58Speaker 7: In your journey, Like from you Co into Central, did
- 20:02Speaker 7: you know you were always going league bound or was
- 20:04Speaker 7: there like a moment when you like you get in trouble,
- 20:06Speaker 7: you go Juco and you're like maybe this dream is
- 20:08Speaker 7: no longer attainable and you're just kind of just trying
- 20:11Speaker 7: to live out the last few years of a football career.
- 20:14Speaker 7: Like at what point were you like, oh, shit, like
- 20:16Speaker 7: I'm gonna go to the NFL and like this is
- 20:18Speaker 7: gonna be a career for me.
- 20:20Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 20:21Speaker 5: I'm gonna be honest with you, because like every time
- 20:23Speaker 5: I got in trouble, I'm like, damn, I'm probably not
- 20:26Speaker 5: gonna go to the league because this is gonna carry
- 20:28Speaker 5: this baggage is gonna carry with me. And then I'll
- 20:31Speaker 5: go to Juco and I'm like, I'm not thinking about
- 20:35Speaker 5: the league, but then I'll ball out and then coaches
- 20:37Speaker 5: be like, bruh, you can go to the league, Like
- 20:40Speaker 5: and then I hear that again, like yah, yeah, I'm
- 20:42Speaker 5: the shit again, you know what I'm saying, Like it
- 20:44Speaker 5: was like hearing it and then I didn't get the
- 20:47Speaker 5: grades to go to the USC, which I was supposed
- 20:50Speaker 5: to go to, but I didn't get the grades. Inane, yeah,
- 20:53Speaker 5: because it was me and Mike Williams. That's who they want.
- 20:55Speaker 5: They was like Mike Williams and you on the other side.
- 20:57Speaker 5: I'm like, hell yeah, like I was in. But that
- 21:00Speaker 5: didn't motivate me. See that should have motivated me to
- 21:03Speaker 5: get the grades. But see I was still running these
- 21:05Speaker 5: streets thinking I was somebody I wasn't. So then I
- 21:08Speaker 5: go to Central Now at D two, I'm like, I'm
- 21:12Speaker 5: not going to the league, Like this is a rap,
- 21:14Speaker 5: Like you know what I'm saying. I remember my mom
- 21:16Speaker 5: sayd just go get get a degree and make something
- 21:19Speaker 5: to yourself, because you know D two right, Like.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, well I'm gonna do that.
- 21:25Speaker 5: I just wanted to get away from the city too.
- 21:27Speaker 5: So I go up there. My first year there, I
- 21:32Speaker 5: go nuts. Though, I go nuts. I don't even know
- 21:34Speaker 5: where this came from, you know what I'm saying. I'm
- 21:36Speaker 5: just I'm out there playing on just just athletic ability, right,
- 21:41Speaker 5: you know what I mean.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I wasn't. I was out of shape. Like I did
- 21:44Speaker 2: the conditioning test.
- 21:46Speaker 5: I didn't even pass it the first year I got there,
- 21:48Speaker 5: I ran it every day and they just was like, dude,
- 21:51Speaker 5: fuck that you like you done. I didn't pass it
- 21:56Speaker 5: the first year. I couldn't The first year, I couldn't
- 21:59Speaker 5: pass it. I couldn't even lift two hundred pounds for real.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I couldn't even lift two hundred pounds. I know,
- 22:05Speaker 2: it doesn't even make sense. I couldn't lift two hundred pounds.
- 22:11Speaker 8: We get we'll get to that.
- 22:13Speaker 5: So they get there and they tested me. I can't
- 22:16Speaker 5: even lift two hundred pounds. They're like, what the but
- 22:18Speaker 5: you got remember at Juco, I didn't do nothing. If people,
- 22:21Speaker 5: if people know me that went to Mount Sack, they
- 22:23Speaker 5: tell you Delaney was a star. He barely came in
- 22:26Speaker 5: the weight room, he barely did condition I would show
- 22:28Speaker 5: up to practice and practice and that was it, and
- 22:32Speaker 5: I leave when they had workouts. I went home, jumped
- 22:36Speaker 5: in the web, went home. They never told me nothing,
- 22:39Speaker 5: so I believe that's how it was. And then I
- 22:41Speaker 5: got the central and they smacked me in the face
- 22:43Speaker 5: like here, come on, conditioning test, get.
- 22:50Speaker 2: In the weight room.
- 22:51Speaker 5: I couldn't even lift two hundred pounds. They like, and
- 22:54Speaker 5: we brought all the players and.
- 22:55Speaker 2: We brought this dude in here to start. Yeah, but
- 22:59Speaker 2: guess what they put me on the field.
- 23:02Speaker 5: I ain't need none of that stiff arming running cats
- 23:05Speaker 5: over like fucking weight room.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I'm screaming at who who works out?
- 23:10Speaker 5: Nobody, you know, I'm screaming it.
- 23:15Speaker 10: I want to think about how, like what a cheat
- 23:18Speaker 10: code it was once. Still they did work out and
- 23:20Speaker 10: condition and everything.
- 23:21Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. I want to see.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I wish you could find your like college highlights and
- 23:25Speaker 1: stuff and just sit there just because I can imagine
- 23:28Speaker 1: the people you're going against in Missouri, and it's like
- 23:31Speaker 1: this just isn't even fair.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Yeah, they some people will say, like, man I played
- 23:36Speaker 5: against it. I see comments like man I played against
- 23:38Speaker 5: that ship wasn't even fair. He was like a man
- 23:41Speaker 5: of much giants, And it wasn't Because my senior year,
- 23:44Speaker 5: once I started working out and running and lifting weights.
- 23:48Speaker 4: For guys, at least take you down.
- 23:49Speaker 5: They know I'm breaking all those tell you I'm stiff
- 23:52Speaker 5: arming cats, I'm jumping over cast in the weight room. Yeah,
- 23:56Speaker 5: I start getting in that weight room now. If you
- 23:58Speaker 5: go to Central, I hold all the records for the
- 24:00Speaker 5: wide receivers because I I didn't. That first year, I
- 24:04Speaker 5: ain't even care.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I was beat every game.
- 24:06Speaker 5: I'm like, god, damn, I can't walk, you know what
- 24:08Speaker 5: I'm saying. It was just like maybe I need to
- 24:11Speaker 5: start working out, you know. And then I remember the
- 24:13Speaker 5: off season, I didn't go home because I didn't have
- 24:15Speaker 5: no money. My mom didn't have money to fly me home.
- 24:18Speaker 5: So they got me a job at this car at
- 24:20Speaker 5: this dealership. But my job was just to drive brand
- 24:23Speaker 5: new cars every week, right, so like just so I
- 24:25Speaker 5: can have money. So like the dude didn't come in.
- 24:27Speaker 5: He also gave me a house to stay in. Like, yeah,
- 24:31Speaker 5: the guy was hell of cool. He was I guess
- 24:34Speaker 5: he was like a booster for the I wish I
- 24:36Speaker 5: knew his name to give him a shot out.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I'm sorry I don't, but he's.
- 24:39Speaker 5: Probably listening to So yeah, I'm sure his daughter because
- 24:42Speaker 5: his daughter. So his daughter lived in that house and
- 24:45Speaker 5: he brought her a new house, so they had moved
- 24:48Speaker 5: out and let us move in there. And I, you know,
- 24:50Speaker 5: I met his daughter and stuff, and he would just
- 24:53Speaker 5: be like, hey, come pick up a car and I'll
- 24:55Speaker 5: drive it. And when I dropped it out, he's like,
- 24:57Speaker 5: you think of college shooting by this car. I'm like,
- 24:59Speaker 5: oh yeah, yeah, most definitely, you know this.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I loved it. He'd be like, all right, now it's
- 25:03Speaker 2: a minivan, go check that out.
- 25:05Speaker 5: So I'll draw different cars on off season. But I
- 25:09Speaker 5: was working my tail off because I was there. So
- 25:12Speaker 5: they like, since you hear, you need to come up
- 25:14Speaker 5: here every day. So I'll go up there every day
- 25:16Speaker 5: watching film. It just be me and the coaches. I'll
- 25:18Speaker 5: work out with them. They'll all run with me, like
- 25:20Speaker 5: cause they knew the motivation, like we can make this
- 25:23Speaker 5: guy the player we know he could be.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Oh man, he'll be unstoppable.
- 25:28Speaker 5: So that my senior year, I gave all the credit
- 25:31Speaker 5: to those coaches, and I'll tell y'all to this day
- 25:34Speaker 5: like I still do because they they pushed me. They
- 25:36Speaker 5: motivated me to get in the weight room, to condition,
- 25:39Speaker 5: to study defenses. Man, am I'm telling y'all, when I
- 25:43Speaker 5: first started playing, I didn't even watch film.
- 25:45Speaker 2: I ain't do none of that.
- 25:46Speaker 5: I just went out there, like, man, they can only
- 25:48Speaker 5: do all they can only do four coverages, cover two
- 25:52Speaker 5: cloud two man like man, are three right?
- 25:55Speaker 4: And they can't cover me?
- 25:56Speaker 2: And they can't cover me.
- 25:57Speaker 5: You know what? I mean, so I looked at it
- 25:59Speaker 5: as I just knew the game, but once I studied it,
- 26:03Speaker 5: oh man, it was scouts start coming. I start seeing
- 26:06Speaker 5: it because they used to be like, you put it into work,
- 26:08Speaker 5: you're gonna start seeing the rewards, right, And I start
- 26:10Speaker 5: seeing the rewards, they'd be like, Yo, look Arizona, Arizona here,
- 26:15Speaker 5: the forty nine ers here.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I'll be like, for real, So, was there ever?
- 26:19Speaker 10: Okay, so you're talking about NFL after Central Missouri, Like
- 26:24Speaker 10: obviously you think like you ended with a good season.
- 26:28Speaker 10: What was the process like going into the NFL? Like
- 26:32Speaker 10: combine draft process like all of that? Were you just
- 26:35Speaker 10: like did anyone guide you in that direction? Or you're
- 26:39Speaker 10: just kind of like, shit, I don't know how this
- 26:40Speaker 10: is gonna work, but I hope it does.
- 26:42Speaker 2: No.
- 26:42Speaker 5: So, like by the second game of the season, I
- 26:45Speaker 5: had came out in the ESPN magazine as.
- 26:48Speaker 2: A sleeper, and the whole school passed out magazine. It
- 26:54Speaker 2: was crazy.
- 26:55Speaker 4: I walked around Magazine two at that time was.
- 26:58Speaker 5: The magazine, and I'm in there like I got my
- 27:01Speaker 5: own kind of page, like.
- 27:02Speaker 8: A sleeper wearing rainbows.
- 27:07Speaker 5: I'm like, yo, people like yo, this shoe, they like
- 27:11Speaker 5: this shoe. I'm like, I didn't even know it was out.
- 27:14Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, hell, yeah, where you get this from?
- 27:17Speaker 5: They like, oh, they handed them out for free. I'm
- 27:19Speaker 5: like they like, can you sign it? So I sign it?
- 27:22Speaker 5: And I remember going to class and one of my
- 27:24Speaker 5: professors go, why.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Are you here? I go, we got class. She's like, no,
- 27:30Speaker 2: you're about to be rich. I said what. She's like, yeah,
- 27:34Speaker 2: the ESPN magazine. Everyone's handing them out. I'm like, oh yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 2: I mean yeah, I get me any money yet. Yeah.
- 27:41Speaker 5: I'm like I'm like, it's just a magazine. You know,
- 27:43Speaker 5: we still got two more games.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Did you keep a copy of it? My mom? Yeah,
- 27:47Speaker 2: my mom got a copy of it, and yeah it is.
- 27:51Speaker 7: I like to be a moment too, from like from
- 27:53Speaker 7: how you've grown up, Like every moment where you've gotten
- 27:56Speaker 7: a little bit of notoriety, you kind of like revert
- 27:58Speaker 7: back to how you were and then like you're sitting
- 28:00Speaker 7: and you just like why are you here?
- 28:01Speaker 8: And you're maybe for.
- 28:02Speaker 7: Like the first time, you're like no, like this is
- 28:05Speaker 7: the beginning, Like I'm here because of this.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:08Speaker 5: Yeah, that's how I kind of felt, because, like you said,
- 28:10Speaker 5: every time I got.
- 28:11Speaker 2: A little bit of notoriety.
- 28:13Speaker 5: I almost reverted back to being an asshole, you know
- 28:16Speaker 5: what I mean. So at this point I looked at
- 28:18Speaker 5: it as an accomplishment, but I'm like.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Nothing happened.
- 28:20Speaker 5: These are just words and pictures, right, Like everybody took
- 28:23Speaker 5: it and ran with it, but I didn't. And then
- 28:26Speaker 5: when agents start calling me, it kind of almost start
- 28:29Speaker 5: going off. I'm like, man, who the hell calling me
- 28:31Speaker 5: from Houston? Like just crazy number. I answered, Hey, I'm
- 28:34Speaker 5: an agent that man. You seen you came out ESPN magazine.
- 28:37Speaker 5: What's your plans?
- 28:38Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, I need to talk to my coach first.
- 28:40Speaker 5: They're like, oh, if you tell your coach, you know
- 28:42Speaker 5: he gonna tell you don't talk to me because we
- 28:44Speaker 5: still had two games left.
- 28:46Speaker 2: So I'm like, okay, I ain't gonna tell my coach.
- 28:49Speaker 5: Lying I go tell Willa, yeah, because I just don't
- 28:54Speaker 5: want to get in trouble because I heard people getting
- 28:56Speaker 5: in trouble. Reggie Bush had took some money and all
- 28:58Speaker 5: of that craziness. So I was like, hey, Willy, I'm
- 29:01Speaker 5: having agents call me. He like, don't you talk to
- 29:03Speaker 5: no agents. I'm like, I'm not. That's why I'm telling
- 29:06Speaker 5: you sir, like out of respect, He's like, when you
- 29:08Speaker 5: need an agent, I'm gonna have an agent for you.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I said, okay. Cool. I kind of took it as
- 29:13Speaker 2: that and was like cool. So the season over, the.
- 29:18Speaker 5: D two Bowl come out where all the top D
- 29:21Speaker 5: two players playing in this bowl. And at this point,
- 29:25Speaker 5: I'm talking to agents now because I'm like, shit, I
- 29:28Speaker 5: need to figure out what's going on. Because Willie wanted
- 29:31Speaker 5: me to talk to his guy, but I wanted to
- 29:32Speaker 5: hear from other guys. Right, So I called about three
- 29:35Speaker 5: agents and they said, do not playing that D two Bowl.
- 29:38Speaker 2: They said, you're better than that.
- 29:40Speaker 5: You're gonna get accepted into the D one Bowl, All
- 29:43Speaker 5: Star Ball whatever.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I'm like, you sure.
- 29:45Speaker 5: They like your name is buzzing to not playing that bowl. So,
- 29:51Speaker 5: long story shortcomes I get invited to the ball, they
- 29:55Speaker 5: bring me up, they do the whole Dwayne Walker All
- 29:58Speaker 5: Star Bull D two Bowl, and then I get up like, hey,
- 30:03Speaker 5: I just want to thank everybody.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I couldn't do this without the old line quarterbacks, right.
- 30:07Speaker 5: My other receivers like, I'm thankful, but I will not
- 30:11Speaker 5: be playing in a D two Bowl, and Willie went nuh.
- 30:16Speaker 5: He was like, we need to talk after this. So
- 30:18Speaker 5: we're going heat showing me out. You ain't not gonna
- 30:21Speaker 5: represent the school in D two. Boy, I said, I'm
- 30:22Speaker 5: gonna get in the I'm gonna be in the D
- 30:25Speaker 5: one Bowl. He like, no, how you know you ain't.
- 30:27Speaker 5: They ain't handling them out yet. I'm like, I know
- 30:29Speaker 5: for a fact I'm getting in one. He like, you
- 30:31Speaker 5: been talking to an agent. I'm like, I have been
- 30:33Speaker 5: talking to a few agents that told me that my
- 30:35Speaker 5: name is buzzing. He like, they just saying that they
- 30:37Speaker 5: want you to sign with him. They all just saying that.
- 30:39Speaker 5: Don't believe them. You're not gonna make it to a
- 30:41Speaker 5: D one Bowl. So when he said that, I was
- 30:45Speaker 5: kind of like, what, you don't think I'm that good?
- 30:47Speaker 2: And like I'm just don't want you to be highs.
- 30:50Speaker 5: And then the lows come and I'm like, Okay, I'm
- 30:53Speaker 5: gonna think about it, but I'm not. Don't sign the paperwork,
- 30:56Speaker 5: don't do nothing yet. So then my agent that I
- 30:59Speaker 5: signed with, Vincent Taylor. I remember talking to him the
- 31:01Speaker 5: most because he would just be like, look, you talented,
- 31:05Speaker 5: It's up to you. He will always tell me it's
- 31:07Speaker 5: up to you. You do what you want. I only
- 31:08Speaker 5: get paid when you get paid. Everybody else was trying
- 31:10Speaker 5: to tell me this money shit, but he was the
- 31:12Speaker 5: only honest one. So I said, can you come to Central,
- 31:16Speaker 5: Can you come to Missouri and meet me? Can we
- 31:17Speaker 5: meet in person? He said, I'm on I'm on the plane.
- 31:20Speaker 5: So he came over. We met in person and he
- 31:24Speaker 5: was talking about the D one Bow and he I'll say, look,
- 31:26Speaker 5: I have other agents told me I shouldn't play in
- 31:28Speaker 5: the D two Bowl because if I get hurt, I
- 31:29Speaker 5: won't be able to play in the D one Bow.
- 31:31Speaker 2: He said, that is true.
- 31:32Speaker 5: He said, I've been hearing noise about you getting into
- 31:35Speaker 5: this D one Bowl, but it ain't They ain't pulled
- 31:37Speaker 5: the list yet. I said, so, do you think I
- 31:39Speaker 5: should play in the D two Bowl? He's like, nah,
- 31:42Speaker 5: I don't think you should. I think you're gonna be
- 31:44Speaker 5: in this D one Bowl. So I'm like, okay, I'm
- 31:46Speaker 5: gonna run with that. I said, can you meet Willie Fritz?
- 31:49Speaker 5: He said, oh, yeah, I definitely meet WILLI so him
- 31:52Speaker 5: and Melly with him and Willy talked. He telled Willie
- 31:56Speaker 5: to leave. He pulled me in. He said, I don't
- 31:58Speaker 5: like that guy. I go why. He's like, he's only
- 32:01Speaker 5: about money. Look at him.
- 32:02Speaker 2: He's flashy. He got a purple suit on him. I'm like, yeah,
- 32:05Speaker 2: I kind of like that suit.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, I kind of like that. I think
- 32:12Speaker 5: he looked clean. He's like, no, you need to meet
- 32:13Speaker 5: my guy. Don't sign with him until you meet my guy,
- 32:15Speaker 5: said Coach, just because you put me in this position,
- 32:19Speaker 5: I'm gonna meet your guy, I won't sign with him.
- 32:21Speaker 5: So I go out and go, Vince, stay here. I'm
- 32:23Speaker 5: gonna meet with his guy tomorrow. I'm gonna make my decision.
- 32:28Speaker 5: So we go to the steakhouse. Will he pay for
- 32:31Speaker 5: all this stuff? His guy comes, Man, his guy comes
- 32:35Speaker 5: with Daisy Duke shorts on flip flops.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Yeah, the lady on a Saturday.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Yeah yeah. I see him coming out. I'm like that
- 32:45Speaker 2: bet n not be him. This dude comes up to me.
- 32:49Speaker 2: He comes up. I'm like, you the agent. He's like, yeah,
- 32:54Speaker 2: I'm the agent.
- 32:55Speaker 5: I work with Rod Green and all these other people
- 32:57Speaker 5: that Rod went to the NFL too.
- 32:59Speaker 2: And I was like, oh okay.
- 33:01Speaker 5: He's like, look, man, you're not gonna get in that
- 33:03Speaker 5: D one Bowl, so you should play in that D
- 33:04Speaker 5: two Bowl. I'm telling you right now that I really
- 33:07Speaker 5: told me you had buzz. There's no buzz going on
- 33:09Speaker 5: about you playing in the D one Bowl. I said,
- 33:11Speaker 5: all right, that's all right, we're done. I said, hey,
- 33:14Speaker 5: we're done, Thanks for coming out.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I'll leave. He calls with, what you disrespect my friend?
- 33:20Speaker 2: Like that?
- 33:22Speaker 5: I'm like, will he told me I wasn't gonna go
- 33:23Speaker 5: to D one Bowl. He said, I wasn't gonna get drafted. Like,
- 33:26Speaker 5: if you don't, if he don't believe in me, I
- 33:28Speaker 5: don't believe in.
- 33:29Speaker 10: Him, why would he talk to you if he doesn't
- 33:31Speaker 10: think you're gonna go any like?
- 33:33Speaker 5: That's what I said that he told me I wasn't
- 33:35Speaker 5: gonna get drafted. He said, I'm probably gonna fall as
- 33:37Speaker 5: a free agent, and I wasn't, And there's no buzz
- 33:39Speaker 5: about me going to the D one Bow. So I said, okay,
- 33:42Speaker 5: thank you. I said thank you. That's all I needed
- 33:44Speaker 5: to hear. He was the only agent that kind of
- 33:47Speaker 5: came o. I'm nervous to hear how this ends.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So then I really get at me.
- 33:53Speaker 5: Boom boom boom. I go, I go to Vincent's hotel.
- 33:57Speaker 5: I'm like, we're the paperwork. I'm about to sign with
- 33:59Speaker 5: you today, like I'm done with this ship. He's like,
- 34:02Speaker 5: what happened. I'm like, it don't even matter. You know
- 34:04Speaker 5: what I'm saying, It don't matter. Let's go.
- 34:06Speaker 2: So I signed with him. He leaves. I tell Coach
- 34:10Speaker 2: H first, I go with Coach H. I signed with Vincent.
- 34:12Speaker 5: He goes, I like Vincent because I even had Coach
- 34:15Speaker 5: H meet him and he was like, I like Vincent.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Vincent was a good guy. So then he goes, you
- 34:19Speaker 2: need to tell Willie though, I go, man, I'm scared
- 34:22Speaker 2: to tell.
- 34:24Speaker 8: Yeah, freaking out.
- 34:25Speaker 5: I was scared, just like the phone like he was like,
- 34:29Speaker 5: don't call him, go to his office.
- 34:31Speaker 2: I'm like, god, I'm scared.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I was shook. I was shoot because after what
- 34:38Speaker 5: I did to his friend too.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I'm fucking shook. So I'm like, long story show.
- 34:42Speaker 5: I'm like, all right, I'm doing it. I don't care, man,
- 34:45Speaker 5: it is, I'm a singer.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I'm done. Like, I go up in there, he waiting,
- 34:50Speaker 2: come on.
- 34:56Speaker 8: You wearing the purple there, look the boy with Sweatnson
- 35:00Speaker 8: like this.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I come through the door. He's like, god, I'm sweating.
- 35:06Speaker 5: Go in confident as soon as he does that, I'm like, damn,
- 35:09Speaker 5: he just he rips me a new one, like how
- 35:12Speaker 5: disrespectful am I to do?
- 35:13Speaker 2: His friend like that.
- 35:14Speaker 5: I brought you here, I'll put you in this situation,
- 35:16Speaker 5: and now you're about to sign with this guy. I'm
- 35:18Speaker 5: telling you right now, this dude is gonna end. He's
- 35:21Speaker 5: gonna mess up your career. I'm like, yes, sir, I
- 35:24Speaker 5: hear you, like I always respect never I'm like, yes, sir, yes, sir,
- 35:27Speaker 5: You're right. That's something I'm gonna have to deal with
- 35:30Speaker 5: if it happens. Like okay, well I'm telling you. He's like,
- 35:34Speaker 5: you better not leave school. You better finish. I'm like, yeah, yeah,
- 35:38Speaker 5: I'm gonna finish. So after that conversation, I go back
- 35:43Speaker 5: to the house and I'm telling all my roommates like, man,
- 35:45Speaker 5: he just like I need to finish this and that.
- 35:47Speaker 5: But Vince was already telling me he about to fly
- 35:49Speaker 5: me to Houston and start training. So I was like,
- 35:52Speaker 5: I don't even know how to say this, and they
- 35:55Speaker 5: was like you should just go to Houston. Like all
- 35:57Speaker 5: my roommates like, fuck, don't even tell Willie, like lead
- 36:01Speaker 5: so if you see this.
- 36:05Speaker 2: So then Vince was like.
- 36:08Speaker 5: With how you feel you want to finish school or
- 36:09Speaker 5: you want to go train, because like I feel like
- 36:11Speaker 5: you need to train. You about to play against D
- 36:13Speaker 5: one players, and I'm like, I'd rather go train. So
- 36:16Speaker 5: then I moved to Houston and uh start training at
- 36:20Speaker 5: Pleux for eight months and yeah, yeah, I was living
- 36:23Speaker 5: in Houston, not going to school. I was just training
- 36:26Speaker 5: and uh they sent my mom a bill Central Missouri
- 36:30Speaker 5: State then, but they took it back though after after
- 36:34Speaker 5: my agent and they lawyers got they took that ship back.
- 36:38Speaker 5: But they sent my mom a bill. My mom got
- 36:39Speaker 5: a bill for like three hundred some thousand. Like, what
- 36:41Speaker 5: is this? Holy shit, I'm like, what you mean. She's like,
- 36:45Speaker 5: Central Missouri just sent me a bill for three hundred thousand.
- 36:48Speaker 5: I said, I went to school for free. She said,
- 36:51Speaker 5: I know what is this bill. I'm like, hold on,
- 36:53Speaker 5: send it to me. I got my agent Vincent on it.
- 36:55Speaker 5: He's like, oh, hell no, that's not about to happen.
- 36:58Speaker 5: And uh, they they pulled it back, said it was
- 37:01Speaker 5: a mistake. They made a mistake. That wasn't supposed to
- 37:03Speaker 5: being sent out to them. It was supposed to be
- 37:05Speaker 5: picked up by the administration. They was gonna pay for
- 37:08Speaker 5: but somehow that got sent to my mom, and uh,
- 37:12Speaker 5: that pissed me off.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I'm not even gonna lie. That pissed me off.
- 37:14Speaker 5: And uh, for the first few years, I ain't say
- 37:17Speaker 5: even since I wouldn't say Central even on Monday night games,
- 37:20Speaker 5: I wouldn't even be like, oh, Central Missouri State Mules
- 37:23Speaker 5: like I would never I was just like put on
- 37:25Speaker 5: the high school, you know, because that's that I feel
- 37:28Speaker 5: like they did me wrong. But again, you know, like
- 37:31Speaker 5: I did them wrong, like it was vice versas, Like
- 37:33Speaker 5: he told me to stay in school and I did
- 37:35Speaker 5: it right.
- 37:36Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:37Speaker 5: I needed to train though, like I was training with
- 37:39Speaker 5: all D one players once I went to Plex. I
- 37:43Speaker 5: was around all these top athletes and almost keeping up
- 37:46Speaker 5: with them. So I'm like getting confident, like, oh this
- 37:50Speaker 5: ain't this, ain't this, ain't nothing. I'm about to I'm
- 37:52Speaker 5: about to shine, you know what I mean. So then
- 37:54Speaker 5: I play in that D one Bowl game. Guess who
- 37:56Speaker 5: the head coach, Jim Horball. Yeah so man, so Jim
- 38:01Speaker 5: Harball the head coach.
- 38:02Speaker 2: He loves me. He like you do everything. I was
- 38:05Speaker 2: doing everything.
- 38:06Speaker 5: With him, and he was just like, dude, you you
- 38:08Speaker 5: should get drafted, Like he would tell me that, like,
- 38:11Speaker 5: you can play multiple positions. They had me at running back,
- 38:15Speaker 5: tight end, receiver, all that, and uh so then I
- 38:19Speaker 5: go to the Combine. I got invited to the Combine
- 38:21Speaker 5: after that Bowl because I put on a play.
- 38:24Speaker 2: They was like, who the hell was.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Just Dlayney Walker coming out of nowhere making catches, making plays.
- 38:29Speaker 2: I get invited to the Combine.
- 38:32Speaker 7: What's the feeling like when you finally get that invite
- 38:34Speaker 7: and you're like, all the ship you've gone through, whether
- 38:37Speaker 7: it's self inflicted or like battling with coaches, and just
- 38:40Speaker 7: like the university, what's that feeling where you're just like, like.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I have an opportunity to go to the show.
- 38:46Speaker 5: No, it was like better than sex, you know what
- 38:49Speaker 5: I'm saying that, Yeah, it was like because you know
- 38:54Speaker 5: that that feeling that sex is.
- 38:55Speaker 2: The best feeling in the world.
- 38:56Speaker 5: But this this feeling that I got knowing that because
- 39:01Speaker 5: my Vince would say, you put into work, it's gonna
- 39:05Speaker 5: all come to you.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Because when he I'll be like.
- 39:07Speaker 5: Man, I don't want to go to Houston and train,
- 39:09Speaker 5: Like trust me, you put in the work, it's gonna come.
- 39:12Speaker 5: And I remember when he hit me like, there you
- 39:14Speaker 5: going to the com I look, I'm getting goose bump
- 39:16Speaker 5: on my legs already, Like I'm like what, he like,
- 39:20Speaker 5: you made it?
- 39:22Speaker 2: I like, I'm tearing up, you know what I'm saying.
- 39:24Speaker 5: I'm on the phone tearing up, like I can't believe it, man,
- 39:27Speaker 5: I can't believe it was right.
- 39:28Speaker 2: He's like, no, it was all you. It wasn't me.
- 39:31Speaker 2: I ain't do nothing. You did that.
- 39:34Speaker 5: And I just just chill like I'm like, God, damn,
- 39:37Speaker 5: I fucking made it, you know what I'm saying.
- 39:39Speaker 2: I'm crying. I'm telling myself like I made it. And
- 39:42Speaker 2: then I called my mom like Mom, I'm going to
- 39:44Speaker 2: the comba, I'm be on TV. She's like, what you go?
- 39:46Speaker 2: You made it.
- 39:47Speaker 5: I'm like, I made it. I'm gonna I'm gonna. This
- 39:51Speaker 5: is my opportunity. I'm gonna take advantage. I'm getting drafted.
- 39:54Speaker 5: And I just kept saying it like I'm getting drafted.
- 39:56Speaker 2: This is they put me in. Yeah, they put me in.
- 39:59Speaker 2: They made a mistake.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Now I gotta show up and uh, the journey just
- 40:04Speaker 5: you know, the journey taught. It came, you know it came,
- 40:07Speaker 5: and I've rolled that thing. Boy, I rolled that that
- 40:11Speaker 5: mustang like, I ain't letting go. You know what I'm saying.
- 40:16Speaker 7: When you went to the combins a receiver at this time? Yes,
- 40:20Speaker 7: and so what point did you transition receiver to tight end?
- 40:23Speaker 7: Was that a couple years into the league or was
- 40:25Speaker 7: that right when you went to forty nine ers?
- 40:27Speaker 2: You know what, I'm glad you said that.
- 40:28Speaker 5: So, like when I got to the combine, we had
- 40:31Speaker 5: a trainer named Danny Arnold. Danny Arnold at the time
- 40:35Speaker 5: was one of the best trainers in football. He goes,
- 40:40Speaker 5: you may be a receiver, but I think you may
- 40:43Speaker 5: play tight end.
- 40:43Speaker 1: How big are you at this time two twenty so
- 40:47Speaker 1: like six?
- 40:49Speaker 5: And he goes, I think they may put you at
- 40:52Speaker 5: tight end. I go, man, why you think that? He like,
- 40:54Speaker 5: I just hear it's a lot of noise about you
- 40:58Speaker 5: playing tight end. So he was putting me through the
- 41:01Speaker 5: ringer of like working out. By the time I get
- 41:04Speaker 5: to the combine, I'm two thirty five.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Pounds.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Yeah I'm in there.
- 41:10Speaker 5: Because he was like, you could either be a David Boston.
- 41:14Speaker 5: Are you going to be a tight end? That's what
- 41:15Speaker 5: he used to call me all the time, David Boston.
- 41:17Speaker 5: You David Boston used to say that, David Boston.
- 41:19Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't take stare with David Boston. Yea,
- 41:24Speaker 2: I don't do that. But uh so he was saying that.
- 41:28Speaker 5: And then I get drafted as a receiver with the
- 41:30Speaker 5: forty nine ers because it was all through. They told
- 41:33Speaker 5: me it was all because of my forty times. My
- 41:34Speaker 5: forty time was good, so they drafted me. It was
- 41:37Speaker 5: at forty time, full four to seven or full forty
- 41:39Speaker 5: nine type shit.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Yet Rick mitch.
- 41:43Speaker 5: So and then I get to the forty nine Ers.
- 41:47Speaker 5: We two three weeks and I'm playing receiver. I'm wearing
- 41:49Speaker 5: number seventeen.
- 41:51Speaker 2: We had Mike.
- 41:52Speaker 5: Martz as an offensive coordinator, and I was with Mike
- 41:55Speaker 5: Nolan as.
- 41:55Speaker 2: A head seventeen. Yeah, I was wearing seventeen, seventeen to
- 42:00Speaker 2: forty six.
- 42:01Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, so seventeen right, and then I call in
- 42:04Speaker 5: the locker room, I come in.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Oh so I go home. We come in the next day.
- 42:08Speaker 5: I used to get there early because they wanted me
- 42:10Speaker 5: to do a workout and stuff early, you know, rookies.
- 42:14Speaker 5: Got I get there and I'm like, damn, they move
- 42:17Speaker 5: my jersey, they move my locker because I see forty six,
- 42:20Speaker 5: and I'm.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Like, damn.
- 42:21Speaker 5: They move my locker and they're like, no, no, no,
- 42:24Speaker 5: you you forty six. You need to get your playbook
- 42:27Speaker 5: and go see Mike Bartz. I'm like, for what, I'm
- 42:31Speaker 5: getting cut. They're like, no, no, you're not getting cut.
- 42:33Speaker 5: Go just go talk to them. So I go up there.
- 42:37Speaker 5: He's like, I know you saw the jersey. I was like, yeah,
- 42:40Speaker 5: I don't really like that.
- 42:41Speaker 7: Numbers go from seventeen forty six.
- 42:46Speaker 2: That's like, it's like, I'm getting cut.
- 42:50Speaker 4: I got about one more week.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like I'm getting cut, Like that's all.
- 42:54Speaker 8: I was thinking, You're right, man, I'm sorry, finished school.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Yeah. So saying there, I'm like Jesus Christ, I said,
- 43:01Speaker 5: I don't really like that number. Like I literally because
- 43:03Speaker 5: I'm thinking he was cool, like Mart's was cool, but
- 43:06Speaker 5: he wasn't cool right now. He's like I don't give
- 43:07Speaker 5: a fuck. I was like, oh damn shit, Oh we're
- 43:12Speaker 5: not cool right now. He's like, no, we're moving you
- 43:15Speaker 5: to tight end the h back. You ever heard of it?
- 43:17Speaker 5: I said, nah, I never heard him. He said, well
- 43:19Speaker 5: you better learn we're gonna cut your ass, all right,
- 43:21Speaker 5: go fuck forty six of this just like that cold.
- 43:26Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, oh, you're not joking, okay, like cause
- 43:30Speaker 5: he was joking. He's joke a lot when I first
- 43:32Speaker 5: got there, but now he's not even said So as
- 43:34Speaker 5: soon as I get in, I get on the phone, Man,
- 43:35Speaker 5: I'm about to get cut. You gotta start looking for
- 43:37Speaker 5: another team. He like, what do you mean? I say,
- 43:39Speaker 5: they just moved me to tight end. He goes, okay,
- 43:43Speaker 5: I can't play tight and he said, d I ain't
- 43:45Speaker 5: never seen you fold for anything.
- 43:47Speaker 2: You're gonna fold today.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Over a number, well over a position change. I said, man,
- 43:53Speaker 5: I never played the position.
- 43:54Speaker 2: I said.
- 43:55Speaker 5: They got Vernon Davis like, you have seen this guy?
- 43:57Speaker 5: He like six three, two hundred seventy pounds.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Like I can't.
- 44:02Speaker 5: I can't do what he's doing. He was like, I
- 44:05Speaker 5: never seen you quit on anything. Showed me show them
- 44:07Speaker 5: who the fuck you are. I said, you know what, Vince,
- 44:11Speaker 5: You're right. I'm gonna go out there. I gonna be
- 44:14Speaker 5: the best non blocking tight end I can be, because
- 44:17Speaker 5: that's I.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Didn't know how to block. Right.
- 44:19Speaker 5: So I get out there, I'm getting cussed out like
- 44:22Speaker 5: a doll bro. I'm missing every playoff step all. Oh yeah,
- 44:26Speaker 5: stepping the wrong way. One game they put me in
- 44:28Speaker 5: a game. I can't even believe it. Right, they put
- 44:31Speaker 5: me in the game that year for my rookie year
- 44:34Speaker 5: as a lead blocker. I go the wrong way. You
- 44:38Speaker 5: hear Frank gord Man, what do you you do? He's
- 44:40Speaker 5: getting the ball because I ran the wrong way. Frank
- 44:43Speaker 5: Gore screaming at me during the play because I'm going
- 44:48Speaker 5: that way. I was supposed to go that way. Because
- 44:49Speaker 5: I ain't know what the hell I had. They threw
- 44:51Speaker 5: me in a game. I don't even think I practiced
- 44:53Speaker 5: this play one time. I'm like, what you didn't want
- 44:57Speaker 5: to You didn't want to ask?
- 44:58Speaker 2: Where do I go? Nah? Nah?
- 45:01Speaker 4: Jim Harball said, who's got it better than us? Whoever?
- 45:04Speaker 4: Delaney's supposed to be blocking?
- 45:06Speaker 2: But uh was har about the head coach your rookie year?
- 45:09Speaker 5: No, No, it was Mike Nolan was the head coach
- 45:12Speaker 5: by rookie year. Mike Marts was the offense coordinated And
- 45:14Speaker 5: I don't know why they threw me in on the
- 45:16Speaker 5: offensive play because I only played special teams really, and
- 45:19Speaker 5: for some reason, they was like I was standing there,
- 45:22Speaker 5: Uh to Pete Pete Pete Hayner was my coach position. Coach,
- 45:26Speaker 5: he go, you win.
- 45:28Speaker 2: I'm like me, I'm literally like me. He like, get
- 45:30Speaker 2: the hell in there. I'm like, oh running, I'm like,
- 45:35Speaker 2: I hear the play, I'm like, oh ship.
- 45:39Speaker 8: Let's scary ship. Ever, bro, the whole stadium is just
- 45:43Speaker 8: so loud, and.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Then it's gonna be it.
- 45:47Speaker 2: No idea.
- 45:48Speaker 4: I feel you no idea too. You're like, I don't
- 45:50Speaker 4: want to be that guy.
- 45:50Speaker 5: I didn't want to be that guy just getting to
- 45:52Speaker 5: play the first time at least no it was Alex Smith.
- 45:57Speaker 11: And then you have a legend like Frank Gorele just
- 45:58Speaker 11: like yelling at you midplay.
- 46:01Speaker 5: I'm like, oh ship. Like so I go to the right,
- 46:04Speaker 5: which I was already messed up. I was supposed to
- 46:06Speaker 5: go to the left and motion to the right, but
- 46:08Speaker 5: I went to the right, motion.
- 46:09Speaker 2: To the left.
- 46:12Speaker 5: He probably he probably when he saw me on that side,
- 46:14Speaker 5: he probably like, Okay, the clock must be down blindy
- 46:17Speaker 5: over there.
- 46:17Speaker 2: But once I motioned, I hear him go. I hear
- 46:20Speaker 2: him say something like that. I look back at the ball.
- 46:24Speaker 2: I didn't block nobody neither, because it wasn't nobody to block.
- 46:29Speaker 4: This might be easier than he thought. He was getting
- 46:31Speaker 4: the ball.
- 46:31Speaker 2: I kind of ran my hands up. They're like, why
- 46:34Speaker 2: the fuck you is throwing your hands up?
- 46:36Speaker 7: You ran the road, they pull you pulled me out.
- 46:41Speaker 2: That the only place the whole time, that whole game.
- 46:45Speaker 4: You're forty six, you're forty seven.
- 46:47Speaker 5: I was like, oh, I'm getting cut. I'm gonna get
- 46:49Speaker 5: cut after this game. They but I remember my tight
- 46:52Speaker 5: end coach that you lucky, you a hell of a
- 46:54Speaker 5: special teams player, because they I was telling them to
- 46:58Speaker 5: get rid of you, like.
- 47:01Speaker 8: Even in your year.
- 47:03Speaker 7: Do you think that, uh Fritz, like all that bullshit
- 47:07Speaker 7: that you had to like endure through college and him
- 47:09Speaker 7: like frying you in front of the team like almost
- 47:11Speaker 7: set you up for success, Like because like every.
- 47:13Speaker 8: NFL coach is gonna dog cuss you if you mess up.
- 47:15Speaker 7: So like in a way, did it ever kind of
- 47:17Speaker 7: be like damn, like maybe like he was a great
- 47:21Speaker 7: coach for me.
- 47:21Speaker 2: No, he was a great coach for he was on
- 47:23Speaker 2: some NFL shit.
- 47:24Speaker 5: He normalized me from being like bothered by getting cussed
- 47:28Speaker 5: the fuck out, like because at first I used to
- 47:30Speaker 5: get mad when he cussed me out, but then they
- 47:31Speaker 5: started to just be like, Okay, it's normal, he's just
- 47:34Speaker 5: cussing me out. So then when they got to the
- 47:36Speaker 5: NFL and the coach cussed me out, I just be like,
- 47:38Speaker 5: well he cussing me out, it's a good thing, you
- 47:40Speaker 5: know what I'm saying.
- 47:41Speaker 2: That's what I started.
- 47:42Speaker 5: Thinking, like, well, he want me here because he cussing
- 47:44Speaker 5: me out. Like if I can't put you in the
- 47:46Speaker 5: game because you don't know what you like, they would
- 47:48Speaker 5: they will always say that, like my first year, we
- 47:51Speaker 5: can't put you in if you don't know what the
- 47:52Speaker 5: hell you doing. And I just spoke back one time like, man,
- 47:56Speaker 5: give me some reps, then you know what I'm saying,
- 47:58Speaker 5: and that he was kind of like.
- 48:00Speaker 2: You want reps? All right, We're gonna get you fucking reps.
- 48:03Speaker 2: And that's that's how it started.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Who would you say was like your best, your most
- 48:08Speaker 3: influential role model?
- 48:10Speaker 5: I like coach Wise, p ain't. Oh my god, Painter
- 48:15Speaker 5: turned me into this dog I was not. I was
- 48:18Speaker 5: a receiver. I was a pussy foot receiver. I like,
- 48:22Speaker 5: I would break tackles and steff farm people, but I
- 48:24Speaker 5: would never go stick my head in there. Now I
- 48:27Speaker 5: will worry about getting my toes stepped on, like hurting
- 48:30Speaker 5: my hands. I was like a pretty boy receiver at
- 48:33Speaker 5: the time, and so becoming the tight end, I would
- 48:36Speaker 5: be blocking on my tippy toe. He'd be like, right,
- 48:38Speaker 5: you're scared to get your feet stepped on, Like I'll
- 48:41Speaker 5: step on your feet right now, like stuff like that.
- 48:44Speaker 5: I'm like, what the hell? And he just he would
- 48:47Speaker 5: just make us. He made us dogs like he He
- 48:51Speaker 5: just was like, we're gonna hit.
- 48:52Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 48:52Speaker 5: We're hitting every day, so we'll come out hitting just
- 48:55Speaker 5: each other, just because he was like, y'all gonna be tough.
- 48:58Speaker 5: One thing we gonna be is the tough his dudes
- 49:00Speaker 5: on this team. And Pete Hanter was that guy. He
- 49:03Speaker 5: taught me how to play the position. He taught me
- 49:05Speaker 5: how to be good at the position. He just was
- 49:08Speaker 5: a great coach.
- 49:09Speaker 1: You talked about when you got drafted there and then
- 49:13Speaker 1: they moved you to tight end, Uh, like Vernon Davis
- 49:16Speaker 1: being there, and like, obviously we all know how tight
- 49:18Speaker 1: you were with Vernon, but is there any like vern
- 49:21Speaker 1: stories you can share that, like you're able to share that,
- 49:24Speaker 1: it won't if you're like you said, man, Vernon was
- 49:28Speaker 1: like like that we was that was my dog, Like Honestly,
- 49:33Speaker 1: people thought I was, like, it's homie.
- 49:36Speaker 12: They didn't think I played for the Titans like your
- 49:38Speaker 12: stories you tell us Vernon.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Yeah so funny.
- 49:40Speaker 5: Yeah, they thought like I was the homie because like
- 49:45Speaker 5: somebody tried to press Vernon. You know what I'm saying,
- 49:47Speaker 5: I'll run over there and just start.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Fighting him, like you know what I'm saying.
- 49:51Speaker 5: Because my dog was like like Vernon will be like,
- 49:54Speaker 5: we'll play a game, say we just played at Candlestick,
- 49:56Speaker 5: and he'd be like, bro, you want to go to Vegas.
- 49:58Speaker 2: I'm like like right now, like y'all got private jet,
- 50:01Speaker 2: let's go.
- 50:02Speaker 5: Don't bring no clothes. I'm gonna buy him for you.
- 50:04Speaker 5: I'm like, what, like, y'all, I'm gonna get all your
- 50:06Speaker 5: ship the word, let's go, and.
- 50:08Speaker 2: We'll go to Vegas. Turn up, he get a big
- 50:11Speaker 2: old villa. You know what I'm saying. We packing that
- 50:14Speaker 2: thing out, I mean packing it out and uh clothes.
- 50:20Speaker 2: My dog did a lot.
- 50:21Speaker 5: You know, my dog would do all types of shit,
- 50:23Speaker 5: but a story, if I could tell a story, man,
- 50:37Speaker 5: we didn't.
- 50:39Speaker 4: We actually really didn't do that much out there.
- 50:42Speaker 5: We used to, like Vernon, you know, with his situation.
- 50:45Speaker 5: I never want to mess up what he got going
- 50:47Speaker 5: on with his fiance and stuff. So like all everything
- 50:51Speaker 5: we ever done was epic, you know what I mean?
- 50:54Speaker 5: It was we had fun with epic, like Vernon was.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Ben. Vernon was like, I know, I wasn't his brother.
- 51:00Speaker 5: I can never take his brother's spot because him and
- 51:03Speaker 5: Vante was like that too, But like at that point
- 51:05Speaker 5: we was like bros.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Like we did everything together. I mean everything.
- 51:10Speaker 4: He gave you car, right to drive around and oh.
- 51:13Speaker 5: Yeah, he would let me drive his cars. But we
- 51:15Speaker 5: had a we had a white homeboy named Brandon. He
- 51:17Speaker 5: can probably see this because he follow our content and Brandon, Yeah,
- 51:22Speaker 5: and he gave he gave Brandon a hell Cat Challenger.
- 51:27Speaker 5: Just get hell yeah hell Cat Challenger, Like.
- 51:32Speaker 2: I wanted it. I wanted that. I wanted that.
- 51:36Speaker 7: Car like he gave around with Vernon. You're like, damn,
- 51:40Speaker 7: Like I'm so glad, I'm tight end.
- 51:42Speaker 5: Like yeah, you know, every time we went out to
- 51:45Speaker 5: like food, bottles whatever, he paid for it. So I
- 51:49Speaker 5: was like, damn, thankful, you know what I'm saying. Thankful
- 51:52Speaker 5: that I walked into this room with him. But the
- 51:54Speaker 5: first time I met Vernon, he didn't know how to
- 51:56Speaker 5: deal with me, because y'all know I'm kind of crazy,
- 51:58Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. So, like, the first time
- 52:00Speaker 5: I meet Vernon, he shakes my hand, but he domned
- 52:03Speaker 5: there break my fucking fingers right, and I'm like, damn, cuz,
- 52:06Speaker 5: don't ever shake my hand like.
- 52:07Speaker 2: That jokingly with him. He looked at me like what
- 52:11Speaker 2: the hell. I'm like, no, I'll with you, big dog, like,
- 52:15Speaker 2: don't hand But then I was like, yo, for.
- 52:17Speaker 5: Real, don't do that again, though, bro, Like because he
- 52:22Speaker 5: and he squeezed tho, I'm like.
- 52:23Speaker 4: He's making sure you don't take a spot.
- 52:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm like, damn, bron, I'm like, don't squeeze my
- 52:28Speaker 5: heat like what I'm like, bro, I'm fucking with you,
- 52:30Speaker 5: but no, but don't ever do that ship again.
- 52:32Speaker 1: I mean that just kind of goes to show, like
- 52:34Speaker 1: because he's he went to Maryland, but is he from
- 52:36Speaker 1: the East Coast? Yeah, he from DC, but it's just
- 52:39Speaker 1: like you being from LA and yeah, it's like that's
- 52:41Speaker 1: just the melting part of the NFL.
- 52:43Speaker 5: Okay, I'm gonna get y'all story because I don't even care.
- 52:45Speaker 5: Fucking it is what it is. Okay, So Vernie used
- 52:48Speaker 5: to have.
- 52:49Speaker 4: This is the one when you went to the gay party.
- 52:51Speaker 5: Right, No, I have fun at that party. Uh uh No,
- 53:06Speaker 5: I wasn't with So Vernie used to.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Have the Vernon David Weekend in DC. And I mean,
- 53:15Speaker 2: like these these parties blowouts crazy.
- 53:20Speaker 5: So like Vernie used to have, he would rent out
- 53:23Speaker 5: the whole hotel for all all the athletes, all the
- 53:25Speaker 5: friends and stuff, and and downstairs it will be like
- 53:29Speaker 5: fifty girls waiting in the lobby.
- 53:34Speaker 2: But whoever. I mean, like.
- 53:40Speaker 5: I'm gonna say, this happened in like two thousand and eight,
- 53:42Speaker 5: y'all two thousand and nine, so even long ago, a
- 53:45Speaker 5: long time ago. And you know, you take a girl up.
- 53:51Speaker 5: So we all had two rooms capacity sold out.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Yeah, we all got two rooms. Go up.
- 54:04Speaker 5: You take the one you've been chilling with all through
- 54:06Speaker 5: half the day, knock her down, go downstairs, find that
- 54:13Speaker 5: other one you've been talking to, take them upstairs.
- 54:17Speaker 2: I mean, I thought, I ain't gonna care. I try.
- 54:21Speaker 2: I almost moved to DC. This was a trade. I'm like, hey, no,
- 54:27Speaker 2: I'm like, Vernon, where should I get a house at?
- 54:29Speaker 2: He like, don't move here.
- 54:30Speaker 5: I'm like you sure, like, don't do it because Vernon
- 54:34Speaker 5: weekends was the best weekends I've never seen. I've never
- 54:40Speaker 5: been a part of anything like that other than his weekends.
- 54:43Speaker 2: And I'm talking about every year.
- 54:47Speaker 5: Every year, cats walking butt ass naked in the hallways.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Not me, I.
- 54:54Speaker 5: Don't get down like that, but some cats, do you
- 54:57Speaker 5: know I'm talking about you come out, they just walking
- 55:00Speaker 5: butt naked to the to the other room.
- 55:03Speaker 2: You're like, what the.
- 55:05Speaker 5: No, Welcome to DC. Chocolate City?
- 55:10Speaker 4: Is that what they're calling it.
- 55:11Speaker 2: That's what they call it, Chocolate City?
- 55:13Speaker 8: Like, we're kind of.
- 55:13Speaker 7: Like skipping ahead. But I mean, you have you have
- 55:15Speaker 7: such a long career. We have to we obviously have
- 55:17Speaker 7: to get a little Titans sock can. When you got
- 55:20Speaker 7: traded to the Titans, what was your initial thoughts.
- 55:24Speaker 5: I knew Chris Johnson, so when I got traded to
- 55:27Speaker 5: the Titans, I'm like, so, the only thing I remember
- 55:30Speaker 5: about Titans they came to San Francisco and beat our ass.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Chris Johnson, Yeah, Chris Jawnson went nuts.
- 55:36Speaker 5: And Randy Moss I don't even know, he had a
- 55:38Speaker 5: field day that game with Collins. Y'all had Collins that quarterback,
- 55:43Speaker 5: So I'm.
- 55:44Speaker 4: Like'sure friend of the show.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, Okay, the Titans. I'm going to the Titans.
- 55:49Speaker 2: I didn't care.
- 55:49Speaker 5: I didn't say nothing about the record. And now I'm
- 55:51Speaker 5: like Chris Johnson, that's all. I was like, Like, they
- 55:55Speaker 5: got Chris Johnson, were about to be cold in the motherfucker.
- 55:59Speaker 2: But then I got out.
- 56:00Speaker 8: Here, ken it was.
- 56:04Speaker 5: It was it was munchack. So I got here and
- 56:09Speaker 5: and I realized it was the organized like it was
- 56:17Speaker 5: a lot going on that a lot of people don't
- 56:21Speaker 5: see because you're outside looking in.
- 56:23Speaker 7: But it was the facilities going from San Francisco to Nashville.
- 56:27Speaker 2: Night and day.
- 56:27Speaker 5: I mean, we didn't have a we didn't have a
- 56:30Speaker 5: cold plunge. They didn't have a hot tub.
- 56:33Speaker 2: What year did you come to the Titans? Twenty thirteen?
- 56:37Speaker 4: So we were a team not to have a teen years.
- 56:41Speaker 2: They didn't have none of that. They didn't The facilities were.
- 56:45Speaker 4: Like locker room, not even.
- 56:48Speaker 5: A hot and it was they was making the food outside.
- 56:52Speaker 5: We didn't even have a kitchen or they was bringing
- 56:54Speaker 5: it in. Yeah, it was it was wild. I was
- 56:58Speaker 5: eating McDonald's. I was eating McDonald's the first year. I'll
- 57:01Speaker 5: go to get McDonald's every day at lunch big Max
- 57:05Speaker 5: double cheeseburgers with Max sauce, no pickles.
- 57:09Speaker 2: So like it was, it was. It was. It was bad,
- 57:12Speaker 2: but they were they were growing and and that's.
- 57:14Speaker 5: Why our records showed the way it showed, because it
- 57:17Speaker 5: was just like, you know, mister Adams, he was you know,
- 57:25Speaker 5: he was older, he was getting old. He was to
- 57:28Speaker 5: that point where you know, he he really didn't do
- 57:30Speaker 5: day to day activities with the football team. I didn't
- 57:33Speaker 5: even I only met him once, you know, when I
- 57:35Speaker 5: first got I only met him once. And this is
- 57:39Speaker 5: what he said when we met him at the game
- 57:41Speaker 5: we lost, I think to the Jaguars.
- 57:44Speaker 2: He come in, he goes, if.
- 57:45Speaker 5: We had a quarterback, we would have won that game
- 57:49Speaker 5: with the quack with the quarterbacks sitting right there in
- 57:52Speaker 5: his face. I said, oh ship, I said, this owner crazy.
- 57:56Speaker 5: He and then they they ran him up out of there,
- 57:59Speaker 5: you know what I'm And they got him, took him out,
- 58:01Speaker 5: and then people was like, man, you see now, you
- 58:04Speaker 5: know what I'm like.
- 58:06Speaker 2: I mean, he was telling the truth. He was telling truth.
- 58:10Speaker 5: He made me seen now because he's saying stuff he
- 58:12Speaker 5: should be saying right in the player's face.
- 58:14Speaker 2: But he was telling the truth though, you know what
- 58:16Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 58:17Speaker 5: You know how old people they can't say the truth.
- 58:21Speaker 5: They just say the truth. It don't matter who it hurts.
- 58:24Speaker 5: He just said it, and they was like, that's the owner.
- 58:28Speaker 2: I said, Okay, that's that's what's up. And you know,
- 58:31Speaker 2: a few years later he passed away. But coming here,
- 58:36Speaker 2: I really didn't have no thought. I just knew that
- 58:38Speaker 2: it was a new opportunity for me to be good.
- 58:41Speaker 2: And then we had Chris Johnson.
- 58:42Speaker 5: Like in my mind, I'm like, with Chris Johnson, i
- 58:45Speaker 5: ain't got a block long, you know what I'm saying.
- 58:47Speaker 5: So I was kind of thankful to have Chris Johnson
- 58:50Speaker 5: on our team. And obviously, you know it didn't work
- 58:53Speaker 5: out the first few years for us, but you know,
- 58:56Speaker 5: it started to develop.
- 58:57Speaker 7: I feel like for your personal career, just as like
- 58:59Speaker 7: a fan watching, like there has to be something say,
- 59:02Speaker 7: like it was huge for you because you became a
- 59:05Speaker 7: star in a low market city even though it wasn't
- 59:07Speaker 7: the forty nine ers, and playing with like all those
- 59:09Speaker 7: guys like you, you grew such a like name for
- 59:13Speaker 7: yourself and like to this day, they are lifelong Titans
- 59:16Speaker 7: fans that like are like if we could just have
- 59:18Speaker 7: a Delaney Walker still back playing and that's that says something,
- 59:22Speaker 7: which is I mean it fires me up, like sitting
- 59:25Speaker 7: here interviewing you when like I'm in the stadium in
- 59:28Speaker 7: like twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen, coming home from like college
- 59:31Speaker 7: on like a random weekend, and I'm like, you know,
- 59:34Speaker 7: I mean, at least we got like a couple of
- 59:35Speaker 7: dogs that sh it's cool, and like sitting here, it's like, damn,
- 59:39Speaker 7: it's crazy.
- 59:39Speaker 10: So you got here in twenty thirteen, When did Marcus
- 59:42Speaker 10: get here? Twenty fifth, sixteen, fifteen fifteen, right after Taylor
- 59:48Speaker 10: got here.
- 59:48Speaker 4: Yes, started stacking.
- 59:50Speaker 5: We started stacking because you got to think about it,
- 59:53Speaker 5: Like Rusting was our GM at first. But Rustling was
- 59:57Speaker 5: so used to having nobody who went to the RAM
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: Why can't why is his name?
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: He's a coach. He went to the Rams, Jeff Fisher,
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Jeff Fisher.
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: So they were so used to having, yeah, the Saint
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: Louis Rams, So they were so used to having Jeff
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: Fisher and his mindset.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: Because Jeff Jeff Fisher was the.
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: He was the mastermind of the Titians being successful. We
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: all can say that, like good coach, great coach. I'm
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: sure he was the one saying what players were going
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: to pick, because he's that kind of coach that's going
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: to control the narrative, right, But then you get munch
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: Check Rusting and then Wizn't Hunt Rusting. Like the picks
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: we were bringing in, you know, they were yeah, they
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: were taking you know what I mean, it wasn't It
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: didn't look good, you know, for the organization. And then
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: like we Rustling get fired, they hired y'all know who,
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: y'all know who? The next gym was Robinson. I don't
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: know why they slipping my mind right now, So we
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: hired Robinson. Robinson comes in with this resume of like
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: knowing how to find talent, right, so he has Isn't
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: Hunt Mike Malarkey Mike right. If you look at those
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: three years, look at the draft picks we had, it
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: shows who was really in control of the draft picks
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: at that time because we were stinking it up. We
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: was bringing cats in and was like, why the hell
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: who is this dude? Like where did he come from?
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: And then it went to Marcus Mariota, Dereck Henry, Taylor.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Taylor Lawan.
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: I mean the list goes on of cats who was
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: putting in work on the team, and then just we
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: start getting better, you know what I'm saying. But now
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: we're having that log again where we're drafting cats.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: They ain't doing nothing.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: Jack has the thousand yards stare going as you're as.
- 1:02:01Speaker 10: I'm talking about, but you're thinking, you're saying right now,
- 1:02:05Speaker 10: after that j Rob period, started doing that again.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: And start doing that. After the j Rob period, it
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: started doing that again. Was like, let's get.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Seat fillers instead of opportunists players. You know what I mean.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: These cats come in and be like, I'm here, I'm good,
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: just happy to be I'm just.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Happy to be here, you know what I mean. I'm
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: happy to be here instead of those dogs. You know
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: Because if you look at Jeff, Jeff was Robinson. Yeah,
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: people kind of forget that. Yes, yeah, people forget that.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: I'm like, that was Robinson. Like everything after Jeff.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Yeah, in comparison he did Jeff and a j A.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: Trade is truly the only thing that ruined him.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: I know. That's what That's what got them fired. One
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: bad decision.
- 1:03:00Speaker 10: Going back a little bit like when Marcus got there,
- 1:03:03Speaker 10: obviously he was what number two pick behind Jamis.
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: That first game against the Bucks.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: He went crazy, went crazy.
- 1:03:10Speaker 10: Were you like, oh shit, like this is the dude
- 1:03:12Speaker 10: like Marcus.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Is for real?
- 1:03:14Speaker 10: Yeah, what was your relationship like with Marcus? I mean
- 1:03:17Speaker 10: obviously you were his only target for a very long.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: Time when Marcus first got there. I love Marcus because
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: he was the type of player, like he don't say
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: much right, but he take the blame. He'll go out
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: there throw for three hundred some yards. We lose, it's
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: his fault.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: I could have played better.
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: I could have played better. I could have played better,
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: but they didn't tell you. They didn't tell you. This
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: dude dropped five passes. That dude fumbled the ball, and
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: it would be like a trickle effect. But it always
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: came back to Marcus because Marcus is going there like
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: it's my fault. If I would have threw for four
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: hundred yards, maybe we would have won.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: It was one pass I should have thought about. I
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: shouldn't have thrown it, you know, and then he'd take
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: that blame. So I loved him because he never blamed nobody.
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: He always was like, I gotta be better, you.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Know what I mean.
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: And I looked at it as this is a guy
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: who's gonna die for you no matter what he can,
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: and he know it's your fault, but he gonna go
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: in that room and go.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: That was my fault. It was a bad pass.
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: If I would have put it on the money, he
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: probably would have called it. He always did that and
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: I loved him for that. But he came into an
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: organization where they are hard on quarterbacks. They're really really
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: hard on quarterbacks because we had great ones played for
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: the Titans and the Oilers. So anytime that person, that
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: quarterback is not playing at that level that they feel
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: he should be playing, it always goes back. That's why
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: he's still on the stadium. That's why the players that
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: people compare everyone to, they still on the stadium. But
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: all the other players not but those two players, right,
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: and that you're gonna get compared to them every time.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: See Derek Henry, he held that stigma. So no one
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: ever said that, nothing about Derek being as good as George,
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: because he was. But now, oh, we don't we need
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: an Eddie George, right, you know, we we need a mcnaire.
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: But now, I mean, cam Ward is doing this, but
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: he has no help at all.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: So like we we.
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: Put our quarterbacks in a blender because they get beat
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: the fuck up. Oh y'all have y'all seeing what I'll
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: see them and Joe Burrow running run for their life,
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: taking injuries. They shouldn't be taking injuries. Look at the
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: injuries Joe Burrow has tooken, Look at the injuries Marcus
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: has tooken, Ryan Tannehill, Will Levis, Will Levis. But we
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: and then they get they all played great, and then
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: they start getting beat up, beat up, and.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: They're like, oh, we gotta get rid of them. They suck.
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: No, they good, they real good. It's just things around him.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: It is not playing to the same level. But I
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: love Marcus Man. Yeah, I love Marcus. He was a dog.
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: Ryan Tannehill was a dog. I mean, Jesus Christ. I
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: played with some good quarterbacks on the time. They may
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: not get that represent the recognition that they deserve, but
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: do some.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Running back.
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: Yeah so, and the grand scheme of it all between
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: forty nine Ers and Titans. Can you pinpoint a singular
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: game that you're like, this was my favorite NFL game ever?
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I definitely can. It was the forty nine Ers
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: versus the Lions. We were four and one, the Lions
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: with five and oh. They had Mega Tronk and Matt Stafford.
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: They had they had some dogs over there. I mean
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: dogs vanderbrush on. Oh my, he used to wear the
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: red contact lands. That shit used to creep me out
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: all the time.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: Yah, who was there? I wound blocked them like four times.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: It was home in four field.
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: Home. It was a in four field. We five and one,
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: they five and up. I mean they were four to one,
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: they was five and oh. And it came down to
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: the far I have ran a slant, they scored a
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: winning touchdown. And that game I still talk about that
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: because that game I was playing phenomenal. I mean I
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: probably had like five special teams tackles. I wham sue
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: like five times, and we broke for big runs and
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: then it came all down to me to score the touchdown.
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: And and they never really threw me the ball For
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: them to trust me on that play, Yeah, it changed everything.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: It changed every day we went on the.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: Super Bowl run and I got you know, like I said,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: I was a free agent and got paid and that
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: all that that right there opened the door for me
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: because they trusted me. They start putting me on more plays,
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: more things. But then Jim Harball did what he did
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: at the end of the game, and that was like,
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: that's my dog, yeah, and.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: He chased him down.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Then he chased him down.
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: We always about to rumble all the way into the
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: locker room, the whole team, we all like squaring up.
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: Holy's come like that. And and I won that game,
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. So it's like I always
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: anytime people talk him like, I mean, I done have
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: some hell of games with the Titans, but that was
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: probably the biggest.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: It took that next step, yeah.
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: For me, you know what I mean, And for them
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: to trust me because like like I said, we had
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: Vernon Davis, Crabtree, Randy Mausss, Mario Manahan, Frank Gore.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: I mean, they ain't one of those dudes they could
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: have the ball.
- 1:08:33Speaker 13: To you again, your relationship with Jim Harball when he
- 1:08:37Speaker 13: became the coach the forty nine ers, you were already there, correct, Yes,
- 1:08:42Speaker 13: that first time y'all saw each other after him being
- 1:08:44Speaker 13: your coach at that d One Bowl, or is it
- 1:08:46Speaker 13: just like, holy shit, look where we are now?
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: He was like, I'm he was like when I saw
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: you was on the roster. I was like, we know,
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: we got a player, that's all. He said, Like, we
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: know we got a player. He's like, I'll put this
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: mother everywhere, and he did. That's how I became the
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: Swiss Army Knife because he sold these. He seems like
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: we got a plan for you.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: I said, oh yeah, I'm about to play more.
- 1:09:12Speaker 11: What was it like when he like, because y'all obviously
- 1:09:14Speaker 11: weren't winning, so you had to make a coaching change,
- 1:09:16Speaker 11: like when he came in, Like how instant did like
- 1:09:18Speaker 11: the mood in the locker room shift, like just in
- 1:09:21Speaker 11: the organization because I mean, y'all won like instantly when
- 1:09:24Speaker 11: he got there.
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: Well, so when Jim Harbo got there and the way
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: he made us work, people was mad because he came
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: on right after that lockout year. So we come back
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: in and we going to work. Cats was, yeah, we
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: gotta get this dude. I don't know about this dude.
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: I don't know about this dude. Like Cats, that was
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: the the ring around the locker So it got back
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: to him somehow.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: You know, you always got a snitch in the locker room.
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: That's just part of the game. That's anywhere you go.
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: It gets back to him. He goes, we bring up practice.
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: I mean, we just busted our ass at practice to
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: this was a long, crazy practice. And he goes, we
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: have snakes on this team. Were like, what the hell
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: he just bringing up? Like we got snakes on this team.
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: He's like, you know how you get rid of snakes?
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: Cut the grass, Burn the grass. Damn, he said, burn
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: the grass.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: They said. He said about in a few weeks. That
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: person that made that's next to you right now, he
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: may not be next to you next week.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: And you'll know who.
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: And we're like, oh shit. Every week, cut cut, bring
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: somebody in. Cut, bring somebody in, cut, bring somebody. He like,
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: you see all the people that got cut, they wasn't
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: right for this team. But everybody who came here that
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: we brought in, they gonna put work on for this team.
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: They may be starting. I don't give how much money
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: you make, who you are, where you get drafted at
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: the best player gonna play. I'm sitting there like, God, damn,
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: thank god, God.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: It's my turn.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: There's nothing better than a good leader.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm like thank God, because I'm busting my ass
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: and I'm not saying the field he comes in, It's
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: like I don't care who it is, and I remember
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: he was like you, but he made me work a lot.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: I had to learn everything the quarterbacks learned because I
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: was the audible shift guy, move guy. And I loved
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: it though, because he gave me a lot of responsibility.
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: But a lot of dudes will tell you they hate
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: Jim Harball because he make us work, you know what
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: I'm saying. Like one time, remember back in the day,
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: NFL was big on when we had real tour days.
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: They were big on like taking players on like field trips,
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: like you go to a water park, movies, theater or
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: something like that. So one day we're thinking we're about
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: to get a bone because he's like, man, y'all have
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: a good practice. I'm gonna give y'all bone. I'm gonna
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: get y'all good bone. Y'all gonna love this bone. Were like, ugh,
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: a lot of bony going to bony going on, so like, well,
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: like okay, and then uh, hell of a practice he
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: calls us up, man, that was one of the great practice. All,
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: y'all gonna love this bone tomorrow. So we like all excited,
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: like where we going? Everybody like where are we going, man,
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: I think he gonna take us. He probably gonna take
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: us to some war reenacting and shit, you know what
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: I'm saying because that's where it came from. Yeah, I
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: know that's what he big on too. So we get
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: there and uh we we had the dress of the day.
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: He used to put it on the board, like the
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: dress of the day. We're like, oh, shit, full pads.
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: We're the bone at. We like we thought it was
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: gonna be like, no practice. It's say full pads. So
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: everybody talking.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Like full fucking pads. Where the bone at.
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: They're like, oh, we're probably gonna practice like thirty forty minutes.
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: I'm like, oh yeah, that's cool. That's even cool. We
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: get outside, he's like, hey, bring it up because usually
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: we stretch. So Jim Harball, let you stretch on your
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: own for fifteen minutes. And then he blowed the whistle
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: and we start practice. So he we ain't straight. He
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: just blow us up.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: We're like, oh, yeah, he tricked us cause he liked that, Like.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: Oh yeah, y'all go change No he go, uh he go,
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: you wanted I want to tell y'all something? We go, yeah,
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: he go seattle right now at the water park. They
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: go Arizona right now.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: They did. They had like a softball baseball game.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: And he still be there.
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: Yeah, he going through all the all our teams in
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: our comf in our division.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: We go, but you know what the forty nine ers
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: are gonna do. We're like, what coach? We all excited
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: when we coach coach, Yeah, what we're gonna go for? Yeah,
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: he like, we're gonna get these seventy plays. Let's go.
- 1:13:35Speaker 8: Morale just killed. I don't work anymore.
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: Coach like that crazy. That may have been the worst
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: practice we ever, the worst.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: Yeah, did he ever take anywhere ever?
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: Yeah he did. He took us. He took us somewhere.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: So after that, I think I want to say two practices.
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: After that, he took us to the movies. We watched.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: What was it? It was an army movie.
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: At that time, maybe like Saving Private Ryan. It could be.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: I was gonna say, fury, No, was it thirty nights,
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: thirty days? What was it?
- 1:14:14Speaker 14: Thirty zero dark thirty? Yeah, we see zero dark thirty.
- 1:14:19Speaker 14: Because he was really big into the military. We even
- 1:14:22Speaker 14: had the president general like military dude come and speak
- 1:14:27Speaker 14: to us.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: Yo, like he was big on that, so like.
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: We went and watched the Army movie and then that
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: that message was like, you see how they never gave
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: up when they backs was against the wall, they kept
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: fighting because.
- 1:14:41Speaker 12: We got seventy more plays. After the movie, pet your
- 1:14:44Speaker 12: pads on, He's like, you see how they never gave up.
- 1:14:47Speaker 12: He's like, We're gonna beat those guys because I know
- 1:14:50Speaker 12: we're gonna be down in the first quarter, We're gonna
