- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to our final fall favorite encore episode as we
- 0:04Speaker 1: head into the final weekend of Fall Into Love on
- 0:07Speaker 1: Hallmark Channel. Today we're sharing an absolute five-star stunner of
- 0:11Speaker 1: a movie review, Haul Out the Halloween. This review was
- 0:14Speaker 1: originally published in October 2025. Enjoy! Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:31Speaker 1: a Hallmark Review Podcast. I'm Megan, and I'm a longtime
- 0:33Speaker 1: Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater. This week,
- 0:37Speaker 1: we're wrapping up the final movies in 2025's Fall Into
- 0:40Speaker 1: Love lineup, starting with Hall Out the Halloween, which originally
- 0:43Speaker 1: aired on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, October 11th, 2025.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You know what this means, the last week of fall
- 0:51Speaker 1: programming here on Girls Gone Hallmark. Yeah. Does this give
- 0:55Speaker 1: any indication of my excitement for what's to come? I'm
- 0:58Speaker 1: drinking a Tazo joy tea right now. This is the holiday. Yes.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I'm excited and a little stressed, but you know. Yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Wendy last night, she was like, We need to meet tomorrow.
- 1:13Speaker 1: We gotta figure out our plan. Little bit of a
- 1:16Speaker 1: crash out, but that's all good stuff for the listeners. Well,
- 1:19Speaker 1: now let's talk Hall at the Halloween with a synopsis.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Halloween-obsessed neighbors inspire residents of Evergreen Lane to haul out
- 1:28Speaker 1: their spookiest costumes and decor to become Ever Scream Lane.
- 1:34Speaker 1: McLean Nelson is back at the helm for Hall at
- 1:36Speaker 1: the Halloween, having previously directed both Hall at the Holly
- 1:40Speaker 1: And Hall Out the Hall, he lit up. His Hallmark
- 1:42Speaker 1: resume also includes gems like The Magic of Lemon Drops,
- 1:46Speaker 1: Branching Out, and The Presence of Love, as well as
- 1:49Speaker 1: the recent Home Turf. Nelson also gets credit for the teleplay,
- 1:53Speaker 1: while Christopher Say is credited with the story idea. Lacey
- 1:57Speaker 1: Chabert stars as Emily. Lacey has 183 acting credits and
- 2:02Speaker 1: was last seen opposite Robert Buckley in An Unexpected Valentine
- 2:07Speaker 1: in early 2025. She will also star with Andrew Walker
- 2:11Speaker 1: in the upcoming She's Making a List, premiering this countdown
- 2:14Speaker 1: to Christmas season. This cast list reads like a who's
- 2:18Speaker 1: who of what's coming. Wes Brown stars as Jared. This
- 2:22Speaker 1: movie marks his 55th acting credit. We last saw Wes
- 2:25Speaker 1: in a cameo during Holiday Touchdown, A Chief's Love Story,
- 2:29Speaker 1: as well as Deck the Walls, both in 2024. He
- 2:32Speaker 1: will also co-star in the upcoming A Newport Christmas. You know...
- 2:38Speaker 1: It's not noted here, but Wes Brown is also the
- 2:40Speaker 1: host of the forthcoming Ready, Set, Glow. Yeah. Which will
- 2:45Speaker 1: premiere on Hallmark Channel. It was a Hallmark Plus exclusive
- 2:49Speaker 1: last year. Yeah. It's a fun little watch if you're
- 2:52Speaker 1: into Christmas decor, you know, neighborhood displays. Displays. That's what
- 2:59Speaker 1: I was looking for. Melissa Peterman returns as Pamela. Melissa
- 3:04Speaker 1: is currently co-starring in the NBC comedy Happy's Place. and
- 3:08Speaker 1: will return as co-host and judge in the second season
- 3:11Speaker 1: of Finding Mr. Christmas. Stephen Tobolowsky returns as Ned with
- 3:16Speaker 1: 298 acting credits. Stephen recently appeared in the theatrical release
- 3:20Speaker 1: of Freakier Friday. Fun fact, he will also appear in
- 3:24Speaker 1: the forthcoming Mimics, which is a non-Homark Christopher Palaha-directed movie.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Laura Wardle plays Jared's mom Belinda. This is her eighth
- 3:33Speaker 1: acting credit, and she did appear in the previous two movies.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Ellen Travolta returns as Mary Louise. Ellen's best known for
- 3:40Speaker 1: her roles in Grease, Happy Days, Charles in Charge, and
- 3:43Speaker 1: most recently on General Hospital. Walter Platz plays neighbor Bob.
- 3:49Speaker 1: This movie marks his 62nd acting credit. Walter did appear
- 3:53Speaker 1: in the previous two movies, as well as Hallmark's Switched
- 3:55Speaker 1: for Christmas in 2017. Eliza Hayes-Marr plays Emily's sister Jess.
- 4:00Speaker 1: She has 17 acting credits and has appeared in other
- 4:03Speaker 1: Hallmark movies like Hidden Gems and Taking the Reins. Ashley
- 4:07Speaker 1: Whelan plays Ashlyn Ashworth. Ashley has 21 acting credits, and
- 4:12Speaker 1: this is her first role for Hallmark. Kimberly J. Brown
- 4:15Speaker 1: joins the cast as Luna with 34 acting credits to
- 4:18Speaker 1: her name. Kimberly is best known for her breakout role
- 4:22Speaker 1: as Marnie Piper in the 1998 Disney Channel classic Halloween Town.
- 4:27Speaker 1: a character she reprised in several beloved sequels. Beyond her
- 4:31Speaker 1: spellbinding start, she's also appeared in long-running soap operas like
- 4:34Speaker 1: Guiding Light and General Hospital. Kimberly's real-life husband and former
- 4:39Speaker 1: Halloween Town 2 co-star Daniel Kuntz joins the cast as Marvin.
- 4:44Speaker 1: With 29 acting credits to his name, Daniel has appeared
- 4:47Speaker 1: in popular series including ER, Ghost, Whisperer, and United States
- 4:53Speaker 1: of Tara. The two were married in 2024, and Lacey
- 4:57Speaker 1: Chabert was one of her bridesmaids. Hey, Wendy, what was
- 5:00Speaker 1: your first impression of Hall Out the Halloween? This might
- 5:04Speaker 1: be the funniest, most rewatchable Hallmark movie of the year. Ooh,
- 5:10Speaker 1: my first impression is Call Me Spellbound. I loved this
- 5:13Speaker 1: third trip into the Hall Out universe. It's so funny
- 5:17Speaker 1: you say that because I was convinced that you liked
- 5:20Speaker 1: it but didn't love it. Oh, no. While I watched,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I loved this movie. I was texting Megan, who had
- 5:27Speaker 1: already seen it, and I was like, oh, my God,
- 5:29Speaker 1: this is so funny. Oh, my God, this line. Oh,
- 5:31Speaker 1: my God. And I was like, she hates me right now. No,
- 5:34Speaker 1: because my like, to your first impression, my like is
- 5:37Speaker 1: this movie is so joy-filled. I felt the same way
- 5:40Speaker 1: at the end of the first Hall Out the Holly movie.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I was loving it. smiling while watching the credits at
- 5:46Speaker 1: the end of that movie. And I remember looking to
- 5:49Speaker 1: my husband. I mean, like, wasn't that great? He did
- 5:52Speaker 1: not love that movie. And I was disappointed when he
- 5:56Speaker 1: shared that with me. And so while I was watching this,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I was thinking, I'm so excited. I'm going to get
- 6:01Speaker 1: to watch this again. I was looking forward to watching
- 6:04Speaker 1: it again with him this weekend because we watched this
- 6:07Speaker 1: on a screener. Yeah. And then... I was bereft when
- 6:12Speaker 1: I realized we wouldn't be watching it again this weekend
- 6:14Speaker 1: because he's not a fan of this universe. And then
- 6:17Speaker 1: I realized I have free will and I can watch
- 6:19Speaker 1: it whenever I want. I have so many thoughts here.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I remember when we talked about Hall Out the Holly
- 6:24Speaker 1: and your husband not liking it. And I remember probably
- 6:27Speaker 1: saying to you, it's because he's a traditionalist. Like he
- 6:31Speaker 1: likes the Hallmark formula. And that movie during that time was... Very. Right?
- 6:39Speaker 1: I feel like we've gotten more movies like that since then. Also, like,
- 6:43Speaker 1: he can't stand the Gilmore Girls of it all. Hmm.
- 6:47Speaker 1: He doesn't want, like, the rapid fire. Nope. I'm not
- 6:50Speaker 1: even listening to this part because nope. I have a feeling. Okay, wait.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Let's get to it in a second because I have
- 6:57Speaker 1: a feeling that might be. Be a complaint of regular
- 7:02Speaker 1: Hallmark fans. Well, yeah. About this movie as well. Well,
- 7:05Speaker 1: that's my point, though. Like, it's steeped in pop culture
- 7:10Speaker 1: and rapid-fire dialogue. Don't jump ahead. I'm not. I'm just
- 7:15Speaker 1: saying that for me. I'm not giving any specific examples now. Yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 1: But for me, that's what's part of what's so great
- 7:24Speaker 1: about this. Agree. Agree. So anyway... His opinion is not
- 7:30Speaker 1: the point here. I loved the first Hall Out the
- 7:33Speaker 1: Holly movie. I loved this movie. I loved this movie too.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Like you said, I caught myself smiling the entire time
- 7:42Speaker 1: while I'm watching this on like a random Wednesday afternoon
- 7:46Speaker 1: and laughing out loud. And my daughter's in the other
- 7:49Speaker 1: room and she's like, what are you laughing at? I'm like,
- 7:51Speaker 1: this movie is so damn funny. I'm like, I really
- 7:55Speaker 1: think you would like it. My 17-year-old is not interested
- 7:59Speaker 1: by any means, but I'm like, I don't really think
- 8:01Speaker 1: you would like it. I could see this being a
- 8:04Speaker 1: movie that people trot out every Halloween. Like, this is
- 8:06Speaker 1: a family Halloween movie. This is a family Halloween movie
- 8:10Speaker 1: that I will put out every year. Like Hocus Pocus.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Like It's the Great Pumpkin. I'm going to give you–
- 8:18Speaker 1: I've mentioned this before. It probably was on our Patreon page.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Hubie Halloween. Hubie Halloween is a movie we watch every
- 8:25Speaker 1: year in my house. It was from 2020. It has
- 8:28Speaker 1: Adam Sandler. It's stupid jokes. It's 12-year-old comedy. But it
- 8:34Speaker 1: makes me laugh out loud every time I watch it.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And this had a similar vibe to it. So my
- 8:41Speaker 1: husband's a big Adam Sandler fan. And over the summer...
- 8:43Speaker 1: went on an Adam Sandler deep dive of the movies
- 8:46Speaker 1: he might have missed. Like, you know, he's seen all
- 8:47Speaker 1: the classics. But I don't think Hubie Halloween is one that, like,
- 8:51Speaker 1: comes to mind when you're like, Adam Sandler, like, right?
- 8:54Speaker 1: He watched that. And I was like, no, because you've
- 8:57Speaker 1: mentioned it before. And I wanted to watch it with him. Again,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I have free will and can watch it on my own.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And now I think I have to. You have to.
- 9:06Speaker 1: This is going to be my... Yeah. October 1st rolls around.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I'm going to watch this movie again. I loved it
- 9:12Speaker 1: that much. Me too. I loved it. Can we talk
- 9:14Speaker 1: about the reasons why? Yes, please. You and I both
- 9:16Speaker 1: liked it so much. And I know we have talked
- 9:20Speaker 1: about this a million times. You already brought it up.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But the dialogue was filled with so many pop culture
- 9:27Speaker 1: references that it just hit. And we've talked about how
- 9:31Speaker 1: much we love Gilmore Girls and how... Gilmore did that
- 9:35Speaker 1: during that time. Of course, the references are much older
- 9:40Speaker 1: back then. This played in an area that I was
- 9:46Speaker 1: very familiar with. Yes. I don't know if a lot
- 9:50Speaker 1: of the regular Hallmark viewers will pick up on some
- 9:53Speaker 1: of the references they were throwing down. In a little bit,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about some of the specifics. Yes.
- 10:00Speaker 1: We'll get to it. But yeah, the pacing right on
- 10:03Speaker 1: the money in this movie. Shout out to McLean Nelson
- 10:07Speaker 1: because not only did he write it, he directed it.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And so the rapid back and forth dialogue was just
- 10:14Speaker 1: done so well. We talked about it in Home Turf too,
- 10:17Speaker 1: like a movie he also directed. Yeah. You were, you were,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you liked in that movie how the scenes would cut
- 10:24Speaker 1: back and forth real tightly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and that
- 10:28Speaker 1: does come down to directing and editing, and it works
- 10:31Speaker 1: for me. I like that kind of pacing. I like
- 10:33Speaker 1: when it's rapid fire, and it feels like natural conversation,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and it doesn't feel like we shot this person. Now
- 10:40Speaker 1: we're shooting this person, and there's an uncomfortable break. It
- 10:45Speaker 1: felt like these people know each other. These people get
- 10:48Speaker 1: each other. These people have a history. These people are
- 10:51Speaker 1: firing off inside jokes, and they're firing off jabs. And
- 10:55Speaker 1: this is my family and these are my neighbors. It
- 10:57Speaker 1: just felt like this is a movie that has– this
- 11:01Speaker 1: is a cast that has found its stride and found
- 11:04Speaker 1: its place. And I almost felt a little bit sad
- 11:07Speaker 1: by that because I do think this is the natural
- 11:09Speaker 1: conclusion of this series. No. I don't know where else
- 11:12Speaker 1: we go from here. So that's funny you brought that
- 11:15Speaker 1: up because I was like, is the next movie Jared
- 11:20Speaker 1: going to Vienna to do the Santa class? Yes. essentially. Right.
- 11:25Speaker 1: That's a good question. But then how did the neighbors
- 11:28Speaker 1: play into that? Because the extended cast in this movie
- 11:31Speaker 1: is so good. Is what makes it. Yeah. If we
- 11:34Speaker 1: can go to the beginning of the movie. Yes. So
- 11:37Speaker 1: we start with the wedding. Yes. And I'm honestly really
- 11:39Speaker 1: glad that we spent like five minutes at the top
- 11:41Speaker 1: of the movie kind of bringing this full circle, like
- 11:43Speaker 1: bring it home. They're together. They're getting married. We get this.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And it's so on brand with the with the series
- 11:50Speaker 1: because even the wedding's themed, it's very fall themed. The
- 11:53Speaker 1: fall colors are very rich. And this very easily could
- 11:57Speaker 1: have been a moment where they didn't spend a lot
- 11:59Speaker 1: of time or effort. But I thought the wedding itself
- 12:03Speaker 1: was quite lovely. Agree. Those golden hour shots were gorgeous. Yep.
- 12:08Speaker 1: The you may kiss the bride shot through the arch
- 12:10Speaker 1: with all of their guests cheering behind them. They had
- 12:13Speaker 1: a deep cast of... background actors to fill that out
- 12:17Speaker 1: and make it look like a real wedding. And then
- 12:20Speaker 1: the bubble shot as they're exiting. Look, I have chills
- 12:25Speaker 1: right now. So do I. First of all, I forgot
- 12:27Speaker 1: about the bubble shot. When we go to Disneyland, my
- 12:30Speaker 1: most favorite thing is when the kids have that bubble
- 12:32Speaker 1: wand and it's just like rapid firing bubbles. Just walking
- 12:36Speaker 1: through their bubble trails. I love it so much. And
- 12:39Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever seen it at a wedding
- 12:40Speaker 1: like that. No, it was great. Oh, I loved it.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I loved it. The wedding scene, you're so right. It
- 12:47Speaker 1: was shot so beautifully. What I liked about it is
- 12:51Speaker 1: that it moved their story along. Jared and Emily's story along.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And it was five minutes. Yes. And also what I
- 13:00Speaker 1: liked about it is that we didn't get a whole
- 13:03Speaker 1: haul out the wedding movie. Yes, exactly. I liked that
- 13:06Speaker 1: we were moving the story along. Here is the next part.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I thought it was beautifully done. I thought it was smart.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I loved Emily's voiceover explaining why they didn't get married
- 13:17Speaker 1: at Christmas. And I don't know if you picked it up,
- 13:19Speaker 1: but they did it because it was Jared's parents' anniversary.
- 13:24Speaker 1: That's the date that they got married on. And I
- 13:26Speaker 1: was like, that is the sweetest thing I've ever heard
- 13:29Speaker 1: of or considered. I loved it so much. And it
- 13:32Speaker 1: was such a throwaway. Yeah. Their vows were beautiful. Yeah.
- 13:36Speaker 1: It was great. It was so great. And it also
- 13:38Speaker 1: recenters us in the cast because it gives them a
- 13:41Speaker 1: natural opportunity for these people to be back together. And
- 13:44Speaker 1: so we have them Getting ready together as their wedding party,
- 13:48Speaker 1: participating in the wedding. And so we're right back in
- 13:51Speaker 1: with the Evergreen Lane crew. Yeah, exactly. In an event
- 13:55Speaker 1: that makes sense and is not contrived. Exactly. On another note, Emily,
- 14:02Speaker 1: as a person around Halloween, is so me. She doesn't
- 14:05Speaker 1: like scary movies. And she says... I don't even like
- 14:07Speaker 1: movies that people say aren't scary, but they really are. Yes, girl. Yes.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I totally thought of you. Yep. On that same note,
- 14:14Speaker 1: yard yelping is a no for me, dog. Do not
- 14:17Speaker 1: jump out at me. It is a rule in my marriage.
- 14:21Speaker 1: You know, you see like TikTok prank videos where people
- 14:23Speaker 1: are like, nope, that's an immediate grounds for divorce. Do
- 14:26Speaker 1: not scare me. Do not like, I don't know if
- 14:30Speaker 1: you can envision it, but if you're like, do you
- 14:32Speaker 1: ever walk to the house and like you look for
- 14:33Speaker 1: your husband and like, Mine does knows not to do this,
- 14:37Speaker 1: but like they'll hide maybe. Yeah, that's a no. Right? Uh-huh.
- 14:42Speaker 1: You walk into a room and you think they're there
- 14:44Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, and they're not. And then they
- 14:46Speaker 1: like jump out from behind a door. Yeah. My daughter
- 14:48Speaker 1: has done it to me and I've pushed her before. Yeah.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I don't like being– I don't find it funny. Like
- 14:53Speaker 1: to me, it's mean. I will jump if my husband
- 14:57Speaker 1: walks into the room speaking in full view and I'm
- 15:01Speaker 1: not expecting him. I startle so easily. So– We are
- 15:06Speaker 1: not a yard yelping kind of family, and that would
- 15:09Speaker 1: have ruined a friendship for me as well, too. I
- 15:11Speaker 1: would have been humiliated if my friend's yard yelped me. Yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 1: that's not cool. I would carry that grudge. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 1: What else did you like? I loved the way Jared's
- 15:22Speaker 1: slow-mo realization flashback of what's happening between his mother... And Ned,
- 15:28Speaker 1: his crash out is done so well. I loved it.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Just the flashback scenes as he's like, oh, great. Great.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I also really like when they are in the attic
- 15:43Speaker 1: and we see Emily's drums. Yeah. And they say Nickelback. Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm like, that's a real choice. Yeah. And then we
- 15:50Speaker 1: get at the end, he comes out. Now, this is like,
- 15:54Speaker 1: this is the only... Pop culture reference I'm going to
- 15:56Speaker 1: talk about in this segment. This is kind of like
- 15:59Speaker 1: you got to know to know. It's a real if
- 16:01Speaker 1: you know, you know moment. He's dressed as Freddie Chad Kruger. Yeah.
- 16:05Speaker 1: He's the lead singer of Nickelback. Yeah. But he calls
- 16:09Speaker 1: himself Chatty Kruger. Yeah. Now, is everyone going to get that?
- 16:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think so. It is so
- 16:18Speaker 1: funny because I saw the Nickelback drums. I'm like, that
- 16:21Speaker 1: in and of itself is funny. And to bring it around,
- 16:25Speaker 1: this movie was made for me. I know. I know.
- 16:28Speaker 1: It's so good. I agree. I agree. I agree. Stephen
- 16:34Speaker 1: Tobolowsky and Melissa Peterman. You guys, okay. This is comedy gold,
- 16:41Speaker 1: these two together. Melissa Peterman is not talked about enough.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I've always enjoyed her. I'm not familiar with her on
- 16:49Speaker 1: her show, Reba. I don't know if it's not her show,
- 16:53Speaker 1: but the show that she was on, Reba. I really
- 16:56Speaker 1: came into my Melissa Peterman crush during Finding Mr. Christmas.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And even though I had seen both haul out the
- 17:04Speaker 1: hauling movies at that time too, look, I'm all in
- 17:07Speaker 1: on her. And This entire movie, between her and Stephen Tobolowsky,
- 17:14Speaker 1: the actual, like, looks of disgust that she would give him. Like,
- 17:18Speaker 1: so much great physical comedy, right? But just, like, in
- 17:21Speaker 1: a nuanced look. Like, she was so annoyed with him
- 17:24Speaker 1: all the time. And the way they would bicker back
- 17:27Speaker 1: and forth with each other. Chef's kiss. It feels like
- 17:31Speaker 1: such a big get that these two are together in
- 17:34Speaker 1: this movie. Mm-hmm. They're different. Everything you said is so accurate,
- 17:38Speaker 1: but it just is, like, such a gift to get
- 17:40Speaker 1: them here. They're just really at the top of their
- 17:44Speaker 1: game still. Yeah. Agree. Agree. More on Peterman. Peterman. Her
- 17:51Speaker 1: comedic timing is just so good. In that scene where
- 17:55Speaker 1: they're at the bake-off. Yeah. And she's, like, intimidating them.
- 17:59Speaker 1: the two new, you know, neighborhood people. And then she
- 18:03Speaker 1: like turns to her kids. She's like, those are good
- 18:05Speaker 1: cookies or whatever. She's like, is she just so funny?
- 18:09Speaker 1: And then she loses the competition and it's great physical comedy.
- 18:13Speaker 1: She passes out and wakes up in the bed and
- 18:17Speaker 1: you were there and you were there just like the
- 18:19Speaker 1: Wizard of Oz. Yes. Oh my God. So great. I
- 18:24Speaker 1: love it towards the top of the movie. Emily and
- 18:27Speaker 1: Jared are still away on their honeymoon and Jared's mom
- 18:29Speaker 1: doesn't want, like they're realizing they see the Halloween decorations
- 18:35Speaker 1: and they're like, we got to loop in Emily and Jared.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And she's like, don't interrupt them. And she's like, we
- 18:39Speaker 1: get it. You want grandchildren, Barb. Like she just fires
- 18:43Speaker 1: it back at her. I don't know why that line
- 18:45Speaker 1: made me laugh so much, but we might cut this
- 18:47Speaker 1: next part out because I could have interpreted the scene wrong,
- 18:50Speaker 1: but it was during like the, Mary Louise's husband was
- 18:54Speaker 1: bobbing for apples. Yes. Yes. And he comes up with one.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And then Pamela says to him like, oh, you got
- 19:03Speaker 1: a good one there, Mary Louise. And I was like,
- 19:05Speaker 1: what is that? What is she referring to here? Yes.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I heard it too. I was like, was that like
- 19:12Speaker 1: a full big sex joke? I don't know. I heard
- 19:15Speaker 1: it too. I don't know. The title sequence on the
- 19:20Speaker 1: moving truck called The Halloween on the Moving Truck. Nice touch.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Not something we've seen before. Love that. Tell me what
- 19:25Speaker 1: else you liked. I actually really enjoyed the overall theme
- 19:29Speaker 1: that the holidays are meant for fun and making memories
- 19:32Speaker 1: and how to pass them down to the next generation.
- 19:36Speaker 1: It really landed for me personally as a person who
- 19:40Speaker 1: doesn't love the holidays in general. And I think it's
- 19:43Speaker 1: a great timely reminder about what the season is supposed
- 19:48Speaker 1: to be. Loved that. I love the mount up callback
- 19:53Speaker 1: from we get in the first movie and then we
- 19:55Speaker 1: kind of get the backstory in this movie that that
- 19:57Speaker 1: was grandma's line. She says it to them in that
- 20:01Speaker 1: scene where after Emily is scared and then she takes...
- 20:06Speaker 1: Emily and Jared out on the golf cart. I just
- 20:08Speaker 1: loved all of that. Yeah, that's a nice catch there.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Loved it. And the last thing that I really loved,
- 20:12Speaker 1: I just thought the production design was next level cute.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I recently talked about Hobby Lobby throwing up all over
- 20:21Speaker 1: that other Wes Brown movie, the one we just reviewed
- 20:25Speaker 1: last week. Yeah, Under the Autumn Moon. Yeah. This one
- 20:28Speaker 1: was not as like... It just... The Halloween tones, like,
- 20:33Speaker 1: it was fall and Halloween together, and it just all
- 20:36Speaker 1: worked for me. It wasn't just, like, somebody, like, randomly
- 20:39Speaker 1: threw up everything. I think Halloween is better than fall
- 20:44Speaker 1: or Christmas because you're not trying to fake anything. Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 1: You're not trying to do fake leaves. You're not trying
- 20:48Speaker 1: to do fake snow. You know, you can just lean into, like,
- 20:51Speaker 1: the Halloween witches and goblins and haunted houses. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I think we've hit just every, like– Well, I don't
- 21:00Speaker 1: have a single wish about this movie. Me neither. Not one.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And that is very rare. Yeah. I read over my
- 21:07Speaker 1: notes over and over. I thought back. I cannot come
- 21:10Speaker 1: up with a single thing I would change. Me neither. Well,
- 21:12Speaker 1: let's talk, did you see that? And I think just
- 21:15Speaker 1: to prep the listener, this is going to be a
- 21:16Speaker 1: little bit different. Rather than true, did you see that?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Although Wendy does have one. It's really just, we're going
- 21:23Speaker 1: to call out all those great dialogue, pop culture-y moments. Mm-hmm.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Hit me with your true did you see that moment.
- 21:30Speaker 1: This is another if you know, you know. And I
- 21:33Speaker 1: don't know. What do you mean if you know, you know?
- 21:38Speaker 1: Tell me your did you see that. Okay. So the
- 21:40Speaker 1: character who plays Bucky, he comes at the end. The brother. Yeah.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Who's he? The brother of Melissa Peterman's character? Yes. Yes.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Bucky is played by one Richard Christie. Do you know
- 21:53Speaker 1: that name? Only because I've read our Instagram DMs, but
- 21:55Speaker 1: I don't know who that is. Oh, yes. Okay. So
- 21:57Speaker 1: Richard Christie was once a longtime personality on the Howard
- 22:03Speaker 1: Stern show. I used to listen to Howard Stern a lot,
- 22:07Speaker 1: early 2000s, like every single day. And that's when Richard
- 22:10Speaker 1: Christie was on the show. He left in 2004. Wow.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I recognized him right away. The voice and the face.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I was like, no, wait, could that be? It's funny
- 22:20Speaker 1: that you know his face. Isn't that crazy? For him
- 22:22Speaker 1: being a radio personality. Yeah. I don't know if it's
- 22:26Speaker 1: because maybe Howard Stern at one time had an E!
- 22:31Speaker 1: show where they would show the broadcast, the radio broadcast,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know, on the E! channel. I can't remember if
- 22:38Speaker 1: it was around that same time. I don't know. I
- 22:39Speaker 1: just know his face. Look, I live on social media. Sure.
- 22:42Speaker 1: But this was way pre-social media, so I don't know.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But you know who he is. I knew who he was,
- 22:47Speaker 1: and I couldn't believe it. Yeah, that's fun. Does he
- 22:50Speaker 1: do a lot of acting? I don't know. How does
- 22:52Speaker 1: that happen? I don't know. They shot this in Utah.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I was like, does he live in Utah? Does he
- 22:57Speaker 1: know somebody? Does the director know him? Does the casting
- 23:01Speaker 1: agent know them? How did that all come together? How
- 23:04Speaker 1: does that happen? And are you like, yeah, I guess
- 23:07Speaker 1: he's like a drummer or two for a band, but
- 23:10Speaker 1: how does that work? I don't know. It's like seeing
- 23:13Speaker 1: your teacher in the wild. It was like that kind
- 23:15Speaker 1: of moment for you. It was, yeah. I was like, wait, what?
- 23:20Speaker 1: So crazy. It was so crazy. I imagine that a
- 23:23Speaker 1: lot of Hallmark watchers are not Howard Stern fans. Yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I don't think, my point, what I was trying to
- 23:30Speaker 1: say is I don't think a lot of people are
- 23:31Speaker 1: going to be like, oh my gosh, in that moment.
- 23:34Speaker 1: But for you, it stood out. Look, I appreciated it.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Are we talking about who's not in this movie? Who?
- 23:40Speaker 1: Eric Mabeus. Was he in the second one? Eric maybe is.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Is in the second one. Okay. Let's talk some of
- 23:49Speaker 1: our favorite lines. Yes, please. Let's just back and forth it. Okay.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Can I start? Mm-hmm. Funeral potatoes. Do you know what
- 23:58Speaker 1: funeral potatoes are? And that's a very Utah LDS situation.
- 24:04Speaker 1: It is like a hash brown casserole that is almost
- 24:07Speaker 1: mandatory at every church potluck. And- Right at the top,
- 24:13Speaker 1: like Pamela makes a reference to funeral potatoes. I don't
- 24:15Speaker 1: remember who she said brought them and almost killed her
- 24:18Speaker 1: with their funeral potatoes. It made me laugh out loud.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I don't even know how I know about funeral potatoes.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Social media. I've seen people. It's one of those things
- 24:27Speaker 1: that comes up, I feel like, on the old Twitter.
- 24:29Speaker 1: And people would be like, do you know what funeral
- 24:30Speaker 1: potatoes are? Yeah. And then all the people would be like,
- 24:33Speaker 1: exactly what you said. It's a church potluck staple. Yeah, crazy. Funny, funny, funny, funny.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Emily says, I get around her and I turn plastic
- 24:40Speaker 1: about Ashlyn. I was like, well, thank you for the
- 24:43Speaker 1: Mean Girls reference. I loved it. Great. Mary Louise and
- 24:49Speaker 1: Belinda both drop current slang. We hear Mary Louise go,
- 24:54Speaker 1: what's the T? I thought that was really funny. Belinda,
- 24:57Speaker 1: when she's explaining to Wes about her relationship with Ned
- 25:01Speaker 1: several times, she says, we're what the kids are calling talking. Yes.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Which if you don't have a teenager, you wouldn't. That's
- 25:09Speaker 1: like a courting. Like that's when we're in the talking stage. Yes. Oh,
- 25:13Speaker 1: my God. And that she was catching feelings or had
- 25:16Speaker 1: caught feelings. And Ned was a Rizzler teenager. And Wes
- 25:20Speaker 1: was like, please don't ever say that again. I just died, Wes.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Wes as Jared. I died. And I know you did
- 25:28Speaker 1: too when they go to Swigalicious, the soda shop. And
- 25:33Speaker 1: then they come back with their giant styrofoam cups. Now,
- 25:38Speaker 1: if you're not on dirty soda internet, especially in Utah,
- 25:42Speaker 1: like you and I went. We were in Utah a
- 25:44Speaker 1: couple years ago and we went to. We had to
- 25:46Speaker 1: hit all the soda places. We went to. So delicious.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I don't think we went to Swig. Uh-huh. And we–
- 25:52Speaker 1: I got to tell you, I'm kind of a soda purist.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Like I would rather just have a Coke. Although I
- 25:57Speaker 1: do like maybe a lime. I don't necessarily need all
- 26:01Speaker 1: of the flavor. Really? Yeah, I think– like it was
- 26:04Speaker 1: a fun experience and they have fun desserts. Yeah. And
- 26:07Speaker 1: the drive-thru line was like 45 minutes long. We had
- 26:12Speaker 1: to go. And also the soda was the size of
- 26:15Speaker 1: my head. I remember it being so big. But I
- 26:17Speaker 1: just loved. I loved that they went there. I love
- 26:20Speaker 1: that they all come back with their cups. I love
- 26:22Speaker 1: that they call it Swigalicious. Yeah. Great. It was great.
- 26:26Speaker 1: There was a moment. You probably didn't even catch it,
- 26:30Speaker 1: but there was, if you are a Bravo fan, specifically
- 26:34Speaker 1: a Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fan, there was
- 26:37Speaker 1: a mention about Salt Lake City and Emily says something like, oh,
- 26:43Speaker 1: they need to bring Monica back. And if you don't
- 26:45Speaker 1: watch that series, Monica was like a one season wonder
- 26:49Speaker 1: chaos agent that flipped that franchise on its head. And
- 26:52Speaker 1: I was like, oh my God, what a great mention.
- 26:55Speaker 1: It's going to be lost on so many people who
- 26:57Speaker 1: don't watch the show. I heard it. I loved it.
- 27:00Speaker 1: My final, did you see that mention, is all of
- 27:04Speaker 1: the cruller talk was giving Say Strudel one more time.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Oh my God, you're so funny. It didn't bother me.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I loved it. Oh, it didn't bother me either. But
- 27:14Speaker 1: I just, if you know, you know. Yeah. If you know,
- 27:16Speaker 1: you know. Strudel talk. Yeah. Great stuff. What did you
- 27:19Speaker 1: rate Hall Out the Halloween? This was a five-star stunner.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Five stars for me, too. Five stars. Can I give
- 27:27Speaker 1: it six? So good. Five stars. No notes. That could
- 27:32Speaker 1: be the episode. It's a 10 out of 10. No notes. But,
- 27:35Speaker 1: in fact, we had many minutes of notes. Yes. Bye. Bye. Bye.
- 28:17Speaker 1: All right, friends, before we go, just a quick heads up.
- 28:19Speaker 1: You're about to hear some ads. These little gems help
- 28:21Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the Hallmark love flowing.
- 28:25Speaker 1: So do with that info what you will. Grab a snack,
- 28:28Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe, just maybe, listen in
- 28:31Speaker 1: and discover your new favorite product. Bye.
