- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:04culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday
- 0:11through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:13I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:17media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 0:22everyone. OK, before I get into it, I
- 0:25wanted to say if you guys have us in your Spotify wrapped or
- 0:29your YouTube wrapped, please, please, please tag me, tag at
- 0:33Lauren Meisner under score on Instagram.
- 0:35If you guys are sharing it, please share it and please tag
- 0:38me. Our Centennial World Instagram
- 0:40account and our infinite scroll Instagram account.
- 0:43Well, our Centennial world one we don't post on so we don't
- 0:46really check it that much. Annabelle checks it here and
- 0:48there, but it's not active. Our infinite scroll 1 is like my
- 0:53cross to bear. I have no idea what to do about
- 0:56that account. I just forget about it.
- 0:58Like genuinely, I'll post on TikTok no matter what we're
- 1:01posting online and I literally always forget to post a real
- 1:04like to take that TikTok that I've made and put it and make it
- 1:07a real. I always forget.
- 1:08So then I'm like bulk uploading anyways, that account's a mess.
- 1:11So please tag me because I would love to see it.
- 1:14I would love to reshare it on my personal account.
- 1:16Please follow me on Instagram as well.
- 1:18I know I keep asking you to like rate review, subscribe, follow
- 1:21me Patreon, like all these different things.
- 1:24And I know sometimes I apologize for that and then you guys are
- 1:27like, don't apologize for self promotion and all that kind of
- 1:29stuff. But honestly, I've decided 2026
- 1:32is my year of leaning into my strengths.
- 1:35And one of my strengths is that I'm very comfortable, like
- 1:40speaking to you guys and presenting on camera and all of
- 1:42that kind of stuff. And as Annabelle says, that's
- 1:44the Leo rising in me. So I'm trying to get to 10,000
- 1:48followers on Instagram because I'm almost there.
- 1:50I've been in the nines for like genuinely years, like literally
- 1:545-6 years. And the reason being I was
- 1:57really building my social accounts for a while there.
- 2:00And then when I went into media full time, I just kind of
- 2:03stopped. Like I just kind of stopped
- 2:05caring about that kind of stuff. And obviously, obviously now all
- 2:07my energy goes into building Centennial.
- 2:09So my own personal profile has kind of like fallen by the
- 2:12wayside, which is totally fine. However, this past year, this is
- 2:15a tangent now, I'm very sorry. This past year, a lot of the
- 2:19brand partnerships that we've done have actually wanted my
- 2:22personal content, like involved in it, like my Instagram, my
- 2:25TikTok, whatever. So it's very beneficial to us if
- 2:28I have essentially a bigger profile.
- 2:30So please follow me is my point. OK, let's just get into the
- 2:33stories for today. So the first story that I have
- 2:36you guys is there is a bit of drama in the color analysis
- 2:41community. So color analysis is a
- 2:44discipline that identifies what color palette looks best with a
- 2:47person's eyes, hair, skin tone and other markers.
- 2:51And then it basically categorizes you into a spring, a
- 2:54summer, a winter and autumn with various subcategories as well.
- 2:59And I actually spoke about color analysis I think like last week
- 3:02or the week before because like it is all over my algorithm.
- 3:05I am so deep in the weeds of color analysis TikTok and I'm
- 3:09really trying to figure out what season I am because I have brown
- 3:12eyes but I have pretty light skin and I obviously have like
- 3:14very light hair. So if you guys have a guess of
- 3:18what I am please let me know. I don't know.
- 3:21I do know that like bright pastels, I feel like those look
- 3:24the best on me. Okay, anyways, so the point of
- 3:27getting your color analysis is that it helps you dress better,
- 3:30it helps you do your makeup better, like that kind of thing.
- 3:33So this process has been around since at least the 1980s as far
- 3:37as I could find, but it really blew up in popularity thanks to
- 3:40TikTok these past couple of years.
- 3:42And because of this, there are tons of new people getting
- 3:45certified in color analysis and starting businesses like this.
- 3:49And a lot of them promote their services on TikTok.
- 3:52They share client color analysis, they share celebrity
- 3:55guesses based that kind of stuff.
- 3:57Color analysis creator Meg Diem posted a video yesterday calling
- 4:01out an older color analyst for quote UN quote, bullying up and
- 4:05coming ones online and manipulating her following.
- 4:09So it seems like Meg was inspired to make this video
- 4:12because her comment section was recently flooded with people
- 4:15saying that you shouldn't trust Meg because she doesn't know
- 4:18what she's doing and the only valid color analyst to listen to
- 4:22is basically this other older creator.
- 4:24This person, when I first started creating content, I was
- 4:27not certified and I was just sharing what I was learning as I
- 4:29was learning it. So I was relaying probably a lot
- 4:32of inaccurate information. This person started coming into
- 4:36my comments and just every single video that I made blasted
- 4:40me was like, this is wrong. You're not certified.
- 4:42It was very aggressive. And it was shocking to me
- 4:45because at the time I was following this person and I was
- 4:49I was inspired by them and I was like, this is so cool.
- 4:52Like people my age need to know about this is on the very early
- 4:55curve of color analysis here on TikTok.
- 4:58I actually reached out to her because I wanted to say like,
- 5:00hey, like this was this really hurt me because I had been
- 5:03looking up to you like really like embarrassing that you like
- 5:06as a bigger creator like came at me and started being kind of
- 5:10like hateful. She immediately blocked me.
- 5:12Since then, I have talked to many color analysis creators and
- 5:15this is her MO. She blocks every single color
- 5:18analysis creator that comes up on her.
- 5:20Feed Meg didn't name the creator.
- 5:22However, there are tons of color analysts in Meg's comments
- 5:25section saying that they believe she is referring to Carol Braley
- 5:29and that Carol has also blocked many of them.
- 5:32Meg seemingly confirmed this when she replied to a comment.
- 5:35So the comment read. I can't stand Carol Braley and
- 5:39her brand of color analysis. Any system that immediately puts
- 5:43a person with dark hair slash eyes in a winter or winter
- 5:46leaning type is dead to me. She typed me as a true winter.
- 5:50I had an in person analysis and I am a light summer.
- 5:54Nothing beats in person analysis.
- 5:56She was totally wrong. OK, so that was the comment and
- 5:58then Meg responded. So again, she named the person
- 6:02Carol and then Meg responded, I use the same system, but just
- 6:05because you have dark hair and eyes doesn't immediately place
- 6:08you in winter. This is strange to me.
- 6:09So it seems as though it's probably Carol because she
- 6:12didn't say no, it's not Carol. And she has actually clarified
- 6:14in the comments that it's not another creator that people were
- 6:17guessing. So this has brought up
- 6:18interesting discussion online about how when a discipline or a
- 6:22field in industry gets really buzzy online, then it can kind
- 6:26of change things and get competitive.
- 6:28Because I guess there's a lot of people in the comment sections
- 6:31saying that color analysis used to be a very close knit
- 6:34community and it used to be very supportive.
- 6:36And now that's not so much the case because it's super popular
- 6:40online. And that brings about, you know,
- 6:42other changes where people are trying to become a color analyst
- 6:45or just any type of field that's popular, right?
- 6:47Like people are trying to get into that field because they
- 6:50know they can make money in it. It's trendy, it's buzzy, that
- 6:52kind of stuff. I think the interesting thing
- 6:54that I've learned though, through this saga is that color
- 6:58analysis is not as scientific, I guess, as I assumed it was
- 7:03because in all the discourse around this, there's people like
- 7:06it's crazy that she's blocking other creators because the point
- 7:09is to like learn off of each other because we see colors
- 7:12differently. Everybody kind of has different
- 7:14opinions on things. I didn't realize it wasn't like
- 7:17kind of AI guess it makes sense, but like a hard and fast
- 7:21methodology, I suppose like a very like standardized
- 7:24methodology. I did not realize that.
- 7:27So it's interesting. But I have thought about getting
- 7:29a color analysis for the last couple of months, but honestly,
- 7:33I just can't do it. They're so expensive.
- 7:35I really want to go, like I would want to go in person, but
- 7:37it's just so expensive. But I do see how it like changes
- 7:42how people look like. I really do see how it changes
- 7:45people's entire aesthetic. It is very cool.
- 7:47OK, The next three that I have for you guys is Tana Mojo has
- 7:51talked about the impact of Reddit on herself perception on
- 7:55a new podcast episode. So Tana's on a bit of like a
- 7:57podcast guest tour right now. She's been going on so many
- 8:01shows and she was recently on the Girls Disrupted podcast
- 8:05where she was asked about the fan experience while she did the
- 8:08canceled podcast with Brooke Schofield.
- 8:10And here's what she said. I'm always.
- 8:12So curious about this. Like when you're working with a
- 8:13friend, did you ever let, like even subconsciously, I guess the
- 8:17fan base kind of dictate the way you felt about Brooke or did
- 8:20were you able to separate the noise from what was real between
- 8:24you guys? I could definitely like separate
- 8:27the thing. I think the human brain is also
- 8:29so interesting. I've been like really interested
- 8:31lately in confirmation bias and realizing how much I'm like a
- 8:34victim of it. If you're convinced someone it
- 8:37doesn't like you, or they're mad at you, or you're convinced that
- 8:39someone like likes you, loves you, whatever, like they could
- 8:42say 8 nice things and then look at you the wrong way one time
- 8:45and like, it's feeding your confirmation bias.
- 8:47And like, the Internet can definitely do that to you, You
- 8:50know what I mean? Like those Reddit threads and
- 8:51all of those things can like create this confirmation bias
- 8:55that you can easily fall victim to and stuff.
- 8:58But like, I don't know, it was just so much more layered than
- 9:01that, right? Because it's like, I'm sure
- 9:02those people are still writing threads like right now about us,
- 9:05and it's like they're still not done.
- 9:07So if you guys don't know the cancelled sub, the cancelled
- 9:10like subreddit and the fandom, I don't know, I guess it kind of
- 9:13changed over the years. Like it was very back and forth,
- 9:16but by the end of it, there was a lot of belief from the fans
- 9:20that Tana was kind of over Brooke.
- 9:21And a lot of people have now said that Tana has very much
- 9:24seemed to like drop Brooke since canceled ended.
- 9:27But it's interesting that she's saying like the feedback from
- 9:30Reddit of course can impact herself perception, but it can
- 9:33also impact how she felt about Brooke and how she felt about
- 9:36relationships in her life and things like that.
- 9:39I guess it makes sense. I think from this answer I
- 9:42gather 2 things. The first is that it's clear
- 9:45that Tana and Brooke really didn't think a lot of the
- 9:47criticism that they got online while doing canceled was valid,
- 9:51which I don't think would come as a huge surprise to anyone
- 9:55that was following canceled very closely.
- 9:57But second, I also gather that it's very hard to drown out that
- 10:02noise, even if you feel very differently about a situation or
- 10:06about a person or about your relationship when there's
- 10:09thousands, if not millions of people telling you or
- 10:12speculating that you feel a certain way.
- 10:15You know, Tana's kind of saying at least I gather from this
- 10:17quote that, you know, it's really hard to drown that out
- 10:21and to make your own opinions about things and to stick to
- 10:23those. And I mean, that makes sense.
- 10:25Like, I think we should not be Privy to thousands of, if not
- 10:29millions of people's opinions about us and our lives, like
- 10:33ever. I think that's incredibly
- 10:34unnatural and I totally understand how it's impactful.
- 10:38I also did want to say this is a bit of an aside, but it's
- 10:40related to canceled and Brooke. So anytime Brooke is posting on
- 10:44TikTok, people will take the photo of her fiance Miles, and
- 10:49the girl that he was allegedly dating supposedly in a
- 10:54relationship with when he was like in his late 20s and she was
- 10:57a minor. I think she was like 15 or 16,
- 10:59maybe 17. She was a teenager.
- 11:01She was under 18. She was a minor.
- 11:02OK. But people will post those
- 11:03photos and she's been drawing attention to this because she
- 11:06comments like ha, ha, ha, or like love this and like likes
- 11:10them and stuff like that, which is crazy in and of itself.
- 11:13But while I think it's completely valid to question
- 11:17Miles and, you know, to question, I guess, Brooke
- 11:20continuing to be in a relationship with this man, I
- 11:23also think for the girl who's in the photos who was a minor at
- 11:26the time, I do think it's not great to be posting her photo.
- 11:32Like we're all presuming, you know, groomed her to be posting
- 11:36that photo constantly on the Internet on video.
- 11:39Some of these videos have like millions of views.
- 11:40So all these people are seeing her photo constantly, these
- 11:44photos that, like, honestly could be really triggering for
- 11:46her. So we also need to think about
- 11:48what that would do to that girl where her face now is plastered
- 11:51constantly all over Brooks comments section all over the
- 11:55Internet in this very vulnerable time in her life.
- 11:58Even if she doesn't consider it to be vulnerable, I think we can
- 12:01all agree it was probably a vulnerable time in her life,
- 12:04even if she doesn't personally see it that way right now.
- 12:07OK, and the last story that I have for you guys, like I
- 12:10mentioned Spotify wrapped, it's out today, and I wanted to talk
- 12:13about how the reception has been mixed.
- 12:15So first I wanted to give you guys an insight into our Spotify
- 12:18wrapped because so many of you guys have contributed to you
- 12:22know, such an amazing wrapped for us this year.
- 12:24So I wanted to share some stats cuz they're honestly really
- 12:27exciting for us. So the infinite scroll RSS feed,
- 12:31we are a top 10 show for 32.3000 listeners, our total new
- 12:40audience this year. This is not for high stakes.
- 12:42This is just for infinite scroll and like mini scroll, mini tac
- 12:45obviously cuz they're all in the same feed is 122,000 for our new
- 12:51audience. That is literally crazy.
- 12:53We were in the top 5% of videos on Spotify.
- 12:58We saw 98% increase in total listening time from last year
- 13:04and I wanted to share some of our YouTube insights.
- 13:06So we've seen 1.3 million views, 165,000 watch time hours and a
- 13:14monthly audience of 57.9000. So that's obviously not like
- 13:18follower subscribers, but that is like audience members who are
- 13:21coming every single month. And then on TikTok, we also saw
- 13:25some crazy growth. So over the course of this year,
- 13:28we've seen 68 million views and we've had a total of 58,000,000
- 13:35viewers, like specific individual viewers.
- 13:39So in total, the Centennial World Podcast Network including
- 13:43high stakes, infinite scroll, mini scroll mini tech, we saw
- 13:4670.67% total network growth. We have a total of 232,000
- 13:55unique podcast audience. Our monthly social media
- 13:58audience was 4.8 million and on average we reached 17,000,000
- 14:05impressions every single month. So it was a huge year for us.
- 14:09I thought we grew a lot in 2024, and we did because we introduced
- 14:12Mini, which was like a game changer.
- 14:15But this year, I don't know, these stats are just so huge.
- 14:18Like we grew a lot last year, but this year I feel like we
- 14:21really solidified like our product and who we are and what
- 14:24the brand stands for. And yeah, it's just like so
- 14:27exciting. And you know, I've spoken a lot
- 14:29about how these past two years have been really challenging,
- 14:32and 2025 was really challenging for us, especially from a
- 14:36financial perspective. And so to see really big numbers
- 14:39like this, honestly, it has actually changed my perspective
- 14:43on how I feel about how this year has gone.
- 14:46So I'm really excited and I'm proud of us.
- 14:49All right, let's get into what people are saying though.
- 14:53So last year for Spotify Wrapped, I don't know if you
- 14:55guys remember, but it wasn't really well received.
- 14:58A lot of users felt like it was AI slop that created the Spotify
- 15:02Wrapped and it lost a lot of this like fun human touch.
- 15:06There were also a lot of glitches.
- 15:08I guess I didn't personally experience these, but I saw like
- 15:10when I was doing research for this, a lot of people talking
- 15:13about how there were glitches, like they would try and watch
- 15:15their wrapped videos and it would just like freeze or crash
- 15:18their app. So this year's is a lot better,
- 15:20feels way more human, It feels more seamless.
- 15:23However, this year there has been noticeably more people
- 15:26talking about how they weren't going to participate in Wrapped
- 15:29this year. There are three main reasons.
- 15:32So this is directly from CBC quote.
- 15:35First, there's artist compensation.
- 15:37Spotify has long been criticized for its dismal payouts to
- 15:40artists. Earlier this year, some Grammy
- 15:42nominated songwriters even boycotted a Spotify Awards event
- 15:45in response to the company's decision to reduce royalty rates
- 15:49for songwriters and publishers by merging its premium music
- 15:52service with audiobooks last year.
- 15:54Then there was the outcry around Spotify's Co founder Daniel X
- 15:57Investment and Helsing, a German defense company.
- 16:00When the news broke that the CEO had been funding the AI military
- 16:04tech company through his investment firm Prima Materia,
- 16:07Indie artists like Massive Attack, Deerhoof and Godspeed
- 16:10You, Black Emperor pulled their music from the platform in
- 16:13protest during the summer. In late September, EC announced
- 16:16he would be stepping down as CEO while remaining the executive
- 16:20chairman. There have also been a few high
- 16:22profile lawsuits. Earlier this month, a class
- 16:25action lawsuit was filed accusing Spotify of accepting
- 16:27payment in exchange for promotion on Discovery Mode
- 16:31playlists, which are intended to provide paid users with
- 16:34personalized, curated playlist based on their actual listening
- 16:37habits. Also filed in early November.
- 16:40This is crazy because Annabelle said this before we even looked
- 16:43into this. Also filed in early November was
- 16:45a lawsuit against Spotify alleging billions of fraudulent
- 16:48streams using bots to the benefit of artists like Drake.
- 16:52OK so we got the stats that Drake was one of the top artists
- 16:55in Australia and Annabelle was like who is listening to Drake
- 16:58in 2025? Like, how is he a top artist in
- 17:01Australia specifically? And then I literally was doing
- 17:04research for this story and I saw this in CBC and I was like,
- 17:07Oh my God. I wonder if it's bots.
- 17:09And then the last straw for some users, however, has been the
- 17:12controversial decision to run recruitment ads for the US
- 17:16Immigration and Customs Enforcement as an ICE, which has
- 17:20come under fire this year for raiding workplaces and other
- 17:22spots in the US and arresting migrants.
- 17:25So I guess the ads started appearing for free users in
- 17:28October and that really kicked off calls to boycott Spotify.
- 17:33If you guys ever hear an ad on any of our podcasts that you
- 17:37feel like would not align with us, please let me know because
- 17:40there are, I believe back end things you can tick that say
- 17:43like please do not put like gambling ads or whatever on my
- 17:46podcast. I believe they have that.
- 17:48I set it up so long ago so I don't fully remember, but I do
- 17:51believe you can like tick certain boxes.
- 17:52So just always feel free to let us know.
- 17:55Now the last thing I wanted to mention, there's a major
- 17:58discussion going on right now about Tik Tok's like pylon
- 18:01culture, like dogpiling pylon culture.
- 18:04So unless something really news really happens overnight, I
- 18:07think I'm going to do a bit of a deep dive into it tomorrow
- 18:10because I don't know if you guys remember the TikTok that went
- 18:13super viral around this time last year of the girl talking
- 18:16about how Beyoncé makes American propaganda.
- 18:19So she has made a follow up video because it's been almost a
- 18:21year since that video and she talked about, you know, what
- 18:25that experience was like going so viral and having a quote UN
- 18:28quote like controversial opinion like that and what that did to
- 18:31her mental health, to her family members, all that kind of stuff.
- 18:34And now there's like a really big conversation around that.
- 18:37So I want to kind of like dive into what some people are saying
- 18:40and kind of yeah, like just the conversation that's happening
- 18:43online. Anyways, guys, that's it for
- 18:44mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 18:47I love you guys. Please remember to rate review
- 18:49and subscribe. Please, Spotify star rate US.
- 18:52Speaking of Spotify, Spotify star rate US and tag us if we're
- 18:57in your YouTube Wrapped, your Spotify Wrapped, all that kind
- 19:00of stuff. And I will talk to you guys
- 19:02tomorrow for a Friday mini scroll.
- 19:04Bye.
