- 0:18I'm Jessica and this is Tabaki Rambles, where a couple of
- 0:20friends review Korean dramas. Welcome back to another episode,
- 0:24guys. I am so excited to talk about
- 0:26the drama that we're going to talk about today.
- 0:28And I am actually joined by Becky from Don't See Rebecca on
- 0:32TikTok. How are you, Becky?
- 0:35Hello, I'm doing well. How are you?
- 0:38I'm doing. So, well, I was telling you
- 0:40earlier, I was like, I haven't talked to anybody like all day
- 0:43long. So this is the first time I'm
- 0:44talking to somebody. I'm sorry if I sound a little
- 0:47weird. Becky has been on several
- 0:50episodes of the drama trio over on Liliana's Tea and Soulju
- 0:53podcast. And so we have recorded before,
- 0:55but this is the first time that you're on Tabak like this is a
- 0:59special day. We're doing a special nice easy
- 1:03comfort watch. I would feel to ease you in for
- 1:07those of you who don't follow you on Tiktok, which I I feel
- 1:10like everybody should follow you on Tiktok.
- 1:12But what what has been your experience watching K dramas?
- 1:16If you wanna list off maybe a couple of K dramas that you
- 1:19really enjoy watching your favorite genres, maybe just to
- 1:23get a little intro on you. Yeah, of course.
- 1:27My throat is also not working this morning.
- 1:30So I've been watching K dramas for a while now.
- 1:34I actually looked because you asked me how many I've watched.
- 1:37I've watched like over 100 at this point.
- 1:41But I think my favorite ones, I just, I love a good romance
- 1:45story, especially one with like a lot of emotional depth.
- 1:49So I mean, I love our beloved summer so so, so, so much.
- 1:53An older one that I really like. I don't know if a lot of people
- 1:56have seen it, but Sassy Gogo is just like, there's so many
- 1:59layers to it. If you've never watched it, it's
- 2:01very interesting. And then the newest one that is
- 2:04like one of my favorite is moving.
- 2:06And it's like, no one has seen moving.
- 2:08They need to see moving. It's a masterpiece.
- 2:10Oh my gosh. Masterpiece.
- 2:12It is, it is. I love moving.
- 2:14We did cover it on the on the feed a little earlier.
- 2:18I don't remember what episode, but if you scroll back, you'll
- 2:20find the moving episode. I love it.
- 2:22I am so glad that it's up for a bunch of Pick Song awards.
- 2:25The Beck songs are gonna air on May 7th, I believe, and that's
- 2:29when we'll know who won Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Drama,
- 2:33and all of these great categories for dramas and film
- 2:37and variety series. So obviously I'm kind of more
- 2:40concerned with the K dramas 'cause I haven't watched all of
- 2:43the K films that have been nominated.
- 2:46I feel bad even commenting on those.
- 2:48But it should be an interesting year because Moving and My
- 2:52Dearest are like the top two contenders, I would say.
- 2:55And then there's a lot of dramas and actors and actresses who
- 2:58were nominated, and I don't think people were, like,
- 3:02familiar with the work that they had done.
- 3:04So it just goes to show that the Korean audience is connecting
- 3:09with different things than the international audience.
- 3:12Yeah, but you watch a lot of stuff, not just K dramas.
- 3:15You watch J dramas, you watch Chinese dramas, you watch anime.
- 3:20You are like all Jack of all trades I would say.
- 3:26Yeah, yeah, I've I really, I branched into C dramas.
- 3:29I feel this was like a while back and they're, they're just
- 3:33so fun. They're they're a lot different
- 3:34than K dramas. So I always feel like if you
- 3:37like K dramas and you're interested in branching out and
- 3:40seeing, you know, the other type of stuff they have out there,
- 3:43see dramas are always a great option as well.
- 3:45Yeah, I totally agree. And of course, as you guys know,
- 3:48on Tibak, we have covered a couple of J dramas, a couple of
- 3:53C dramas, well, more than a few C dramas because I also like
- 3:57watching different things every once in a while, not just crit K
- 4:00dramas, even though that's my first love.
- 4:03But Speaking of first love, we are going to talk about because
- 4:07this is my first life on this episode.

- 5:13you guys over on the Patreon feed.
- 5:16So with that being said, we're just going to go right into the
- 5:19non spoiler section like usual. I will read the Vicki synopsis.
- 5:23It is the Vicki synopsis today because they had the better
- 5:25synopsis. The Asian wiki and my drama list
- 5:29synopsis were like real clunky and I was like, I don't want to
- 5:32deal with that today. So here's the Vicki synopsis.
- 5:35Who has time for love when finances are on the mind?
- 5:38Nam Sayi is a socially awkward man in his early 30s who has
- 5:42spent his life savings purchasing his own house.
- 5:45While he can now be called the master of his own home, his
- 5:47finances are in a in a sorry state and his job as an IT
- 5:51employee provides him with next to no disposable income after
- 5:55paying off his mortgage. Yunjio, also in her late 30s,
- 5:59I'm sorry early 30s, actually is a homeless writer.
- 6:03I feel like homeless has a different connotation that
- 6:06house. Such a strange way to put it,
- 6:10but. She doesn't own a home.
- 6:12She's not wrong. Yeah, it's not wrong, but she's
- 6:15not homeless. Yeah, houseless house.
- 6:18Poor houseless houseless writer who barely makes enough to feed
- 6:23herself. Dating is the last thing on the
- 6:24mind for these financially strapped singles.
- 6:27Through a turn of events, deal comes to rent a place to stay
- 6:30and say he's house and they find themselves as landlord and
- 6:34tenant. How will these individuals grow
- 6:36in the unexpected circumstance of being thrust together?
- 6:39Is there room for romance in such impoverished situations?
- 6:43I also don't know if impoverished is the right word,
- 6:46but OK. They live in a great house.
- 6:48The house is beautiful. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:51Can they help each other work through their personal, familial
- 6:54and financial issues? So because This is My first Life
- 6:59aired from October to November 2017, It is the traditional 16
- 7:03episodes long. It was directed by Pakhtun Hua.
- 7:06He's also directed things like Let's Eat, Let's Eat too, which
- 7:11I love those two shows. Bring it on Ghosts, What's wrong
- 7:14with Secretary Kim from 2018, which we covered on season one
- 7:18of the podcast. If you want to scroll back in
- 7:20your podcast feed and listen to that Touch your heart in 2019.
- 7:25And he's also done. I'm looking around to make sure
- 7:28no one's gonna come after me. Alchemy of Souls, 2022, parts
- 7:33one and two of Alchemy of Souls. So how do you how do you feel
- 7:37about that? Does this make sense that this
- 7:39director also did because this is my first life.
- 7:42Are you kind of like, wow, that's strange.
- 7:45I didn't realize that. That's interesting.
- 7:48I, I haven't seen, I haven't seen a lot of them besides just
- 7:53like two on the list. So I feel like I I need to watch
- 7:56Let's Eat now so I can truly see 'cause you said that's a really.
- 8:00Good one. I really love let's you're gonna
- 8:02like let's eat and let's eat too.
- 8:03Let's eat 3. There's three of them, so let's
- 8:06eat 3 is fine. It's just not my favorite.
- 8:09They started like messing with it a little bit to keep the male
- 8:13lead the same, but they keep changing the female lead for
- 8:16each season, if that makes any sense.
- 8:17And like the reasons for like why it's a new love interest.
- 8:23I think it just gets a little crazy.
- 8:25So let's eat. I would highly recommend that.
- 8:28It is full of food porn. Like they're constantly eating.
- 8:33And I really appreciated that show.
- 8:35It like introduced me to a lot of Korean food.
- 8:39And obviously the story is really good as well.
- 8:41So let's eat, let's eat 2. Those are my faves and Alchemy
- 8:45of Souls. Obviously we've covered all
- 8:47Alchemy of souls on the podcast. I we don't want to rehash it,
- 8:50but it's there if you want to go back and listen to those.
- 8:53I think it's part one and Part 2.
- 8:55There's the two-part episode because it was that much content
- 8:58to talk about. So because this is my first life
- 9:01was written by Yun Nan Doon. She's a female screenwriter.
- 9:06She's also written Cool Guys Hot Ramen from 2011, The Queen of
- 9:10Office from 2013 and Hogu's Love from 2015.
- 9:14That's it. Like she hasn't written
- 9:15basically anything else. And while I was looking her up,
- 9:20I found that there was a little bit of a, a scandal with because
- 9:23this is my first life. So I, I guess we'll pause here
- 9:27'cause we're already talking about the writer, but the
- 9:29scandal is a plagiarism scandal and it didn't like make a bunch
- 9:34of rounds here in the States. It was just kind of like
- 9:37relegated to Koala's playground, which is a less than reputable
- 9:40news site for Hollyu slash K news.
- 9:44And then it was also like in a Reddit feed and people were
- 9:47commenting on it. But I was like, this is enough
- 9:49to I think chat real quick about it.
- 9:51So the scandal is she had LED allegedly used the J drama We
- 9:56Got Married as a job as its source material and used that
- 10:01premise without credit. But he this is the similarities
- 10:06between the show as I'm to understand it because I have not
- 10:09watched this J drama before. The similarities are both share
- 10:13a contract marriage, both have a socially awkward male lead who
- 10:17works in IT, and both have a quirky heroine.
- 10:20But from the Reddit comments people were like I watched both
- 10:24shows. I cannot understand why it's
- 10:28played that they're screaming plagiarism.
- 10:30It's maybe she took inspiration. At the most she took inspiration
- 10:34from that drama, if anything, which came out the year before.
- 10:38Because this is my first life, I believe.
- 10:40I just want to put that out there just in case people didn't
- 10:43know, but do you have thoughts on this at all?
- 10:46So here's the thing, like contract marriage dramas are
- 10:49like in in a sense that the same thing happens in like most of
- 10:53them. So like I feel like the only
- 10:56thing you can get from that is the the jobs are the same and
- 11:00like their personalities are the same.
- 11:02But that could literally there's hundreds of shows like I'd have
- 11:06to watch both. I know, yeah, I'd had.
- 11:09The only way to know how you feel about it is to watch both.
- 11:12I'm not going to sit here and watch AJ drama just to see if
- 11:15that Because this is my first life was plagiarized.
- 11:18Who has the time for that? Yeah.
- 11:20And make a whole PowerPoint presentant.
- 11:21This is why I feel. And no, but I think it might be
- 11:26that this scandal, if it really did gain traction in Korea, that
- 11:30could have sunk her career because she really hasn't done
- 11:34anything after because this is my first life.
- 11:37So I feel kind of bad, but I don't know, I just want to throw
- 11:41that out there. I don't think it has like a,
- 11:43there's a case really for it. Did you know that they this?
- 11:47So since I I just watched it yesterday some of the stuff is
- 11:50still fresh in my mind. That cool guys hot ramen thing
- 11:53was brought up in the drama, like the title was brought in
- 11:58the drama 'cause they were talking about the stuff she's
- 12:00written when she's at the wedding and she's she's like,
- 12:04I've, I've wrote cool guy hot ramen and then the girl's like,
- 12:08that's funny. I've never heard of that.
- 12:10So she put her, her, her. Own drama, she's well, how do we
- 12:16put this? The female lead is also a a
- 12:19drama writer and she says I wrote this show, but it the show
- 12:24was in reality written by the screenwriter of because this is
- 12:27my first. It's a little confusing, but I
- 12:28I'm on the same page as you just to explain it for people.
- 12:32That is wild. I didn't even realize I didn't
- 12:35remember a cool guy's hot ramen being one of the.
- 12:38'Cause it stuck with me, 'cause I'm like, that's such a weird
- 12:40title. And then they're like, what is
- 12:42that about? And like, you know, and then
- 12:44you'd I just looked at that now and I'm like, oh, why is why is
- 12:48Jess listing, you know, the the shows that that the.
- 12:51Girl in the Show is a fictional show.
- 12:54It's a real, it's a real show. We have to watch that.
- 12:59Can we watch, guys? Hot Robin.
- 13:02We have to. It's from 2011.
- 13:04I think it's fair game. I.
- 13:06Don't know what? It is, though.
- 13:07But what? Yeah, Cool guys, hot Robin.
- 13:09Just to see what? First of all, cool guys, hot
- 13:12ramen. I'm thinking it's hot guys and
- 13:16hot ramen but I don't know. I kind of I want to look.
- 13:19Up, you're going to look at the description wait, because like.
- 13:23I thought it was fake because it's such a weird name.
- 13:25It is. It's real.
- 13:29I'm. Maybe it's a different like you
- 13:31know, sometimes they change. The name.
- 13:33Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:35'Cause I see it flower boy ramen shop but I'm not.
- 13:37No, that's not it. OK I am clicking on it right
- 13:40now. It wait it is flower boy ramen
- 13:45shop. That's the description.
- 13:49Read the description. I've I've watched this show.
- 13:52Wait, you have? Of course, this is Oh my God, so
- 13:58cool guys. Hot ramen is the English title.
- 14:00The literal title is flower boy ramen shop, which I've 100% I've
- 14:04seen that show. Wow.
- 14:07What is life? What is life?
- 14:10This is for those who have never watched this is, I feel like a
- 14:13lot of people might like it, but it stars Zhengyou Wu Echunga,
- 14:19who Echunga does a major like cameo at the end of our show.
- 14:23Like because this is my first life and Iku, if you look at
- 14:28these people, you'd be like, Oh my God, I know who these actors
- 14:31are. That's.
- 14:33Crazy. I love it.
- 14:35Wow. I feel like a detective, yeah.
- 14:39But wow, I'm so glad we took a minute to like, look that up
- 14:42because I would have never known that was Flower Boy Ramen shop.
- 14:45So she wrote Flower Boy ramen shop.
- 14:49Queen of office and Hogue's love.
- 14:51I can't believe that the people in the show like because this is
- 14:55my first life. Those bitches didn't recognize
- 14:59cool guys hot Robin because that is flower boy Robin shop put
- 15:03some respect on that name. All right, Oh my goodness.
- 15:06So moving on. The show stars even key as Nam
- 15:11say he he has been in about 17 movies.
- 15:14I have watched a couple of them Spellbound from 2011.
- 15:18He stars in it with Sonia Jin. That's Sonia Jin from Crash
- 15:22Landing on you. She sees ghosts and he's like a
- 15:25magician. It's a really quirky ROM com.
- 15:28I think I'd recommend it. It's not like amazing, but it's
- 15:31it's standard. He was also in Monster from 2014
- 15:35with Kim Go UN. This was before Kim Go UN.
- 15:38Was Kim Go UN like Goblin's bride?
- 15:41You know what I'm saying? So she was really young in this
- 15:45and he plays a killer. And The thing is, ever since I
- 15:48saw him in Monster from 2014, he's always had like a serial
- 15:53killer look to him because of him playing a killer in that
- 15:57movie. Have you watched Behind Your
- 16:00Touch? No, I haven't watched.
- 16:03SO that's also something that he's starred in.
- 16:06He's been about 14 TV shows, Behind Your Touch being one of
- 16:09them. What?
- 16:09What do you have to say about Behind Your?
- 16:11Touch his, his acting like if it's crazy, if you were to watch
- 16:16like because this is My first life and then watch behind your
- 16:18touch because he's a completely different actor.
- 16:22He's funny, he's silly, he's like serious, but like it's
- 16:26something you normally don't see from him 'cause he's, I mean, I
- 16:28guess besides though, my ghost sync, which I haven't seen, but
- 16:32I don't know, I, I just think of character from behind your touch
- 16:36every time and I'm like, he's so fun, like he's just so silly.
- 16:39You have to, it's ridiculous though.
- 16:41It's a ridiculous show and I have.
- 16:43To what is behind your touch about for those who don't know
- 16:46just so quick. I'm going to tell you, I was
- 16:50literally talking with friends who who don't watch dramas and I
- 16:54was trying to explain this drama when I was watching it ongoing
- 16:57and they thought I was lying to them.
- 17:00I had to look it up and show them because they're like Becky.
- 17:04There is no way that there is AK drama out there where a girl can
- 17:09touch people's butts and see their like memories and things
- 17:13that recently happened and thoughts.
- 17:17I was like. They didn't believe it.
- 17:19It's all true, I swear. And I finished it you.
- 17:22Did I? Did.
- 17:24I think it was getting a lot of traction because of the premise
- 17:27and then I don't remember people sort of wrapping that up.
- 17:31But I'm glad you finished it. So he was in behind your touch.
- 17:34That's last year, 2023. Yeah.
- 17:37He was in my Liberation notes from 2022, which I absolutely
- 17:41love that show. I don't know if I could ever
- 17:43rewatch it, but I did love it the first time I watched it.
- 17:47I also talked about it. I was I did a guest spot on
- 17:51Swoon Diaries podcast with Nas and we talked about my
- 17:54liberation notes in detail. So that was a fun, nice chill
- 17:59episode. If you want to go to her feed
- 18:01and look, check that out. He's been in The Lies Within the
- 18:04Beauty Inside from 2018. I don't know if The Beauty
- 18:08Inside is any good. I've heard such mixed reviews.
- 18:10I love the movie that it's based on, but then I never watched the
- 18:15show which seems rather different and totally different
- 18:19vibe than the movie I. Don't know.
- 18:21I haven't seen that either, so I don't know.
- 18:24Yeah, and then he's also been in Shut Up Flower Boy Band from
- 18:272012, which he has Raging Guy Liner in that show.
- 18:32Oh. My goodness.
- 18:33Yeah, I, I, I thought he had a bigger role, but it says here
- 18:37that it's just a vocal's cameo. Maybe he was in it a couple
- 18:40episodes or something. Look if you are looking for a
- 18:43really good music K drama you're into I don't know, dream High
- 18:49and other like K pop adjacent shows, this is a show I love.
- 18:56Shut up flower boy band. I love it.
- 18:59OK? OK, it's old love.
- 19:00It's 2012 show how cringy is it on a scale of one to 10 beyond
- 19:04I? Haven't, I haven't rewatched it
- 19:06in a minute, so I can't stay with my 2024 eyes and heart and
- 19:10mind if it's cringing now. But when I watched it, I thought
- 19:14it was really intriguing 'cause I learned a lot about the
- 19:17industry. I learned a lot about, you know,
- 19:22if one person is talented in a band, they might get signed
- 19:26versus everybody else. And sort of it's all about
- 19:30keeping the integrity. You're like artist integrity
- 19:35while you're going through this crazy process of trying to get
- 19:37famous, trying to have other people listen to your music.
- 19:41And I like it. Flower Boy, obviously meaning
- 19:44that the guys in the band are all hot, but it's good.
- 19:48I liked it. I love to check it out.
- 19:51I love I love a good music drama so I just added that to my list.
- 19:54OK, it's it's older, it's 2012, so be kind to it.
- 19:58It's not as high production value as what you're used to
- 20:01seeing nowadays. But I thought that the plot and
- 20:05the characters is just just very good.
- 20:07So that's him, our male lead. And then we also have Chung
- 20:10Suman, who plays Jinggang, our screenwriter, I guess drama
- 20:17writer in the show. She's been in Playful Kiss from
- 20:222010 I. I always like to mention that
- 20:26because it is such a bad show. When I first watched it, I was
- 20:31like, this is crazy. I was getting the ick.
- 20:33I was getting cringe. It was so cringe.
- 20:36You dropped it. Yeah.
- 20:38It depends on like when you watch it.
- 20:39You might be more forgiving. I watched it maybe around
- 20:4220/12/2013 and I was kind of like, this is crazy, but I just
- 20:48want to see it through. Finished it.
- 20:52Oh yeah, I finished it. Yeah.
- 20:53Oh. My goodness.
- 20:54So playful kiss, can we get married?
- 20:58My father is strange. The smile has left your eyes,
- 21:02which I think that according to the release schedule that I put
- 21:07together, the Smile Has Left your eyes episode should already
- 21:10be out. So if you want to scroll back in
- 21:14your podcast feed, this is so strange because it's not out
- 21:16while we're recording this, but it will be out after it's
- 21:20anyway, Long story short, if you want to scroll back in your
- 21:23pocket and say you can listen to me and Sarah from K drama, this
- 21:27talk about the smile has left your eyes.
- 21:29And then Jung Suman has also been an alchemy of souls from
- 21:332022. So part one.
- 21:37So how do you feel about Jung Suman as an actress and and
- 21:41stuff? I think she's a great actress.
- 21:43I like her acting. I haven't seen a ton of the
- 21:46stuff she's in besides like just two or three of those on the
- 21:48list, but I do. I do really like her as an
- 21:51actress. How about you?
- 21:53I love her and this is the my favorite thing that she's been
- 21:56in because this is my first life is my favorite thing that she's
- 21:59been in. And every time I see her, I
- 22:02think of this role and this character and it brings me a lot
- 22:08of warmth and joy. And I love, I just love her
- 22:12acting. I don't know, she's like, so
- 22:14real. And.
- 22:17Second to that, I think of playful kiss, but we're not
- 22:21we're not going to go think about that.
- 22:22We don't think about that. But anyway, I would love to hear
- 22:25for those listening, if you have thoughts on Chung Soo Min or
- 22:28Emin Ki as actors, what your favorite stuff that they've been
- 22:31in. That would be awesome to hear
- 22:33from you guys. But but that being said, there's
- 22:36loads of more cast members. It's a bit of an ensemble cast,
- 22:39but those are the main two. We have Esom as Suji, she's a
- 22:44one of the best friends. We have Kim Gaun as Horan, also
- 22:49one of the best friends. And then we have Pak Byungun as
- 22:52Sangu, the CEO character of the app that says character
- 22:58develops. And then we also have Kim Munsuk
- 23:02as Onesuk, the boyfriend slash fiance of one of the BFFS.
- 23:07So that being said, that's it. We've come to the end of the
- 23:11cast list. What do you think about Because
- 23:14This is My First Life and I believe you rewatched it in a
- 23:20epic binge session just yesterday, so it's a real thrash
- 23:25in your mind. Let me know your thoughts.
- 23:29So I'm not a show rewatcher and I was really struggling getting
- 23:34into rewatching this again. Like I was having a whole like
- 23:38mental time. But once they got to the parts
- 23:41that like my brain kind of forgot what happened next, I was
- 23:44like, oh OK I want to know what happens next for this.
- 23:47But the romance I it's like a slow burn, but at the same time
- 23:52like, I don't know, I don't know how to explain it.
- 23:55The I love the fact that those two characters are just so
- 23:59comfortable with each other and they just they don't even have
- 24:02to say a lot of words. You can see they just understand
- 24:05each other so well. I love the friendships in this.
- 24:08I love the relationships. I love how real it is because
- 24:12this is the type of show that's not cookie cutter standard K
- 24:16drama. It talks about like realistic
- 24:19relationship problems with all of the characters.
- 24:23There's, there's so many different things it goes into
- 24:26and I, I love how diverse it is with, with each character and
- 24:30it, it like normally for side characters, you know, they're
- 24:34just on the side. You're like, I don't really,
- 24:35sometimes you don't care about their storylines.
- 24:37But for all of these, I was pretty invested in all their
- 24:40storylines. I wanted to see what ended up
- 24:41happening with each of their relationships and just them in
- 24:45general, because I want to see them happy.
- 24:48But it was it's it's a good watch.
- 24:50I I really enjoyed re watching it.
- 24:53I just love the the whole cast as a whole and just like all the
- 24:58stuff that they do for the drama, it just is it's AI feel
- 25:02like if you haven't seen it, you have to at least see it one time
- 25:05because because it's just it's one of those dramas.
- 25:08Yeah, it's a good one. It's.
- 25:10A good one. It's a good one.
- 25:12I remember watching this drama, I think in 20, 17 or 2018, right
- 25:20around when it aired, and man, I love this show.
- 25:25I was like, why is no one talking about this show?
- 25:27I really thought it was progressive.
- 25:30I thought it was feminist. It covered consent.
- 25:32We had two like consenting adults, like asking each other
- 25:35things like, can we sleep together?
- 25:38Is it all right if I hug you? Different things like that.
- 25:42It's so like it's consent done right because it's sexy and it's
- 25:48like adding to their relationship and the drama
- 25:52between them and these growing feelings that they are
- 25:55experiencing. And again, it's very real.
- 26:00It's very grounded. And I love the ensemble cast.
- 26:03I love this friendship between the three girls.
- 26:06I was like, I think I was finding a lot of commonalities
- 26:09between them and my own friends group, which we've since kind of
- 26:13gone our separate ways and we live in different countries and
- 26:17stuff like that. But Oh my God, I was like, I'm
- 26:20this character, My friend was this character and my other
- 26:25friend was this character and their traits are so recognizable
- 26:30and I think the show is just so comforting.
- 26:36As soon as I started re watching it, it is so comforting.
- 26:40So I started re watching it and I again, I've said this before,
- 26:43I'm not necessarily a drama re watcher.
- 26:46So it was a big deal for me to put this even on the docket
- 26:49because I had already seen it and I was like, I don't know, I
- 26:52kind of feel like watching it again and covering it because
- 26:55not a lot. I feel like it's underrated.
- 26:57People don't talk about because this is my first life.
- 27:00So I was like, you know what, I'm just going to put it on.
- 27:04And as soon as I put it on, I was like, I took like such a
- 27:08deep sigh that I was like. Oh.
- 27:10My God I missed it like I missed the show.
- 27:13I loved rewatching it. I was not skipping over parts
- 27:17like I usually do if I rewatch a show.
- 27:21I was incredibly invested in all of their stories all over again.
- 27:25It was like watching it anew. And the show is as much about
- 27:30being true to yourself as searching for a place of your
- 27:34own, a home, belongingness. These are big themes in the show
- 27:40as much as the slow burn romance and answering questions like do
- 27:45marriage, What? What is marriage and are
- 27:48marriage and love the same? Exact.
- 27:51Yeah. And it really goes in depth with
- 27:53that because it like it even was bringing up questions I've never
- 27:56like thought about before because it's like, yeah, you can
- 27:59date someone, but but if you're like alignment on like your your
- 28:04marriage values and what you want to do in your future, like
- 28:06that's not going to work out. And so it's interesting when
- 28:08people say they're like they're dating just to date or they're
- 28:11dating for marriage and they really go in depth with that.
- 28:15Yeah, for sure. Also big like nods to other IP
- 28:22and sort of big like they're referencing 500 days days of
- 28:27summer at one point and I'm like 500 days of Summer is very
- 28:31interesting movie in and of itself that deals with very
- 28:35different but cool concepts about love and like projecting
- 28:41your feelings onto somebody else.
- 28:43And who is the who's at fault for a relationship crashing and
- 28:47burning? Was it even a relationship to
- 28:49begin with when people have stated what they are expecting
- 28:54and what they their standards are for this relationship?
- 28:58Like I'm not looking for anything serious.
- 29:00OK, then why? Why is this person catching
- 29:03feelings and thinking that it's more serious than it is when the
- 29:06other person clearly said so? It's like very similar.
- 29:09It's a wonderful pull for them to invoke 500 Days of summer.
- 29:13They invoke The Graduate very heavily in the show.
- 29:17And I don't know if people listening have watched The
- 29:20Graduate, but that's a very classic.
- 29:24I think 70s or 60s movie. No, it's not 60s.
- 29:28It's definitely no. Now I need to look it up because
- 29:31but anyway, they specifically are referencing the bus scene at
- 29:36the end of the Graduate, which multiple times they're looking,
- 29:41they're doing that in the show of them sitting in the back of
- 29:45the bus, very similar to the staging in The Graduate, which
- 29:48the Graduate came out in 1967. So I stand corrected 60s, but I
- 29:55think it's interesting to look at she references kind of how
- 29:59she felt about the movie when she was younger and didn't
- 30:02understand the movie. And then she re watches it later
- 30:06in life and she's like, there's something here that I didn't
- 30:10read before in the bus scene. And I love it.
- 30:14I love that she's kind of re evaluating the the romanticized
- 30:21portions of her life in the media that she consumes.
- 30:26And that's growth, right? Like that's people just growing
- 30:29up and maturing and realizing like, I totally had a misreading
- 30:32of The Graduate when I was younger and thought it was
- 30:36romantic for Dustin Hoffman's character to break up this
- 30:39girl's wedding. And then afterward they're
- 30:42sitting on the bus and they're like, what now?
- 30:44And there's this emptiness between them.
- 30:46Not love. Yeah.
- 30:48So it's Gary probing. I think the whole show is
- 30:53extremely probing. I loved all of the voice overs.
- 30:55Sometimes I get sick of voice overs and cake drama where I'm
- 30:58like, Oh my God, they're just talking just to talk.
- 31:00But these voice overs are incredibly important because
- 31:04they're musing about life and the situation and what you just
- 31:09watched and you're like, it's putting it into perspective for
- 31:13the audience. And it feels extremely authentic
- 31:16for someone to have these conversations with themselves.
- 31:19Especially 'cause, you know, her job is like dramas and like
- 31:23film. And so it like looping back to
- 31:26that, you know, you're like, wow, like this is really going
- 31:29in details about specific like her interests and stuff like
- 31:32that. Yeah.
- 31:33And I think it's really neat that they do that.
- 31:35And I think they do a great job at doing that.
- 31:38So the last time we talked about sexual harassment in the
- 31:42workplace was on the Something in the Rain episode with
- 31:45Caitlin. That was the first time she ever
- 31:48came on the show, and it was a lot of fun.
- 31:51You can scroll back in your podcast feed to hear that
- 31:52episode. But the sexual harassment in
- 31:56Because This is My First Life is really incredible.
- 32:01And I found it such a compelling part of the one of the BFS Suji,
- 32:07her story. Did you have thoughts about that
- 32:10as well? Or were you kind of like, Oh my
- 32:13God, it's so uncomfortable, I don't know.
- 32:15I did actually. So I think in a lot of dramas
- 32:21they don't. I mean it, it depends.
- 32:23Some go deep into topics that normally aren't really discussed
- 32:27and then some do a very good job, you know, discussing these
- 32:30serious topics that a lot of people don't talk about.
- 32:33And I think they did a very good job, like talking, like, not
- 32:37necessarily talking about, but showing the sexual harassment in
- 32:40the workplace, but also like showing that it can happen to
- 32:45like, 'cause like, is this a spoiler if I say what happened?
- 32:50I don't know. I don't want to spoil it.
- 32:52OK, we'll leave. It for spoilers, but I guess OK
- 32:55I you I understand what you're saying that they gave it I think
- 33:00a lot of space and it was obviously very uncomfortable to
- 33:03watch. But I think on 2nd watch, I
- 33:07maybe I'm more desensitized, but I was like, this is definitely
- 33:10sexual harassment, but I think I was kind of muddled on the
- 33:15stakes for her character for a lot of it.
- 33:18And the first time I watched the show was like like boiling
- 33:23inside because I was so mad at what was transpiring at work.
- 33:28And 'cause she's obviously nobody deserves that be sexual
- 33:33harass, sexually harassed in the workplace.
- 33:36But it seems so commonplace. Yeah, in.
- 33:41Korea, yeah. And they make it so it's it's
- 33:44not like, you know, obviously everyone's like not pointing and
- 33:48being like, Oh my gosh, that's terrible.
- 33:49It's just a normal thing. And then that makes you think
- 33:52like, this is something that's common.
- 33:54This is a common thing that they're touching on that they're
- 33:57they're showing in the show and sad.
- 34:01It's so sad, especially when this, no, not a spoiler, but
- 34:06when she has like a breakdown when she's walking, Oh my gosh,
- 34:11so hard. It's really hard.
- 34:14So that character, I, I found her so compelling, not just the
- 34:19female lead, but her best friends and Suji in particular,
- 34:22who is like the tall, elegant, take no shit from anybody type
- 34:27of character. And she's the one who's
- 34:30experiencing the sexual harassment in the workplace cuz
- 34:32she's a really successful professional.
- 34:37And then yeah. And then the other friend who
- 34:40has this seven-year relationship that I had a lot of thoughts
- 34:46this time around. I almost want to leave it too
- 34:48for the spoiler section but like.
- 34:50No, me too. OK, good.
- 34:52I had. Maybe because I watched this so
- 34:55many years ago, what, 4 plus of seven years ago.
- 35:00I was in my 20s at the time and like, I just have a very
- 35:03different perspective. I I was upset definitely at
- 35:06their story. The first time I watched it, it
- 35:09was highly upsetting. But this time around I was like,
- 35:12I had so much less tolerance for it.
- 35:15I don't know what you Yeah, same.
- 35:17OK, no, I was the exact same. We'll talk about it in the
- 35:19spoilers 'cause I I wrote like a whole thing of notes about their
- 35:23specific arc 'cause there's so much, there's so much we have to
- 35:27Oh my God, breakdown with. Them.
- 35:29Yeah. The last thing I'll say is I
- 35:32really appreciated how the show sort of delved into how even
- 35:37couples who live together needs time apart and their own space
- 35:42to unwind, be themselves and have kind of like secrets.
- 35:49You know, you can keep some parts of yourself to yourself.
- 35:52You don't have to share every single thing with your partner.
- 35:56And they referred to this by AI. Think it was a book that the
- 36:02female lead had called like in room 19 or something.
- 36:06Yeah. Room 19, Yeah.
- 36:07But the room 19 kind of just represents this space that is
- 36:12uniquely yours. You're not sharing it with
- 36:14somebody else, and you can do whatever the hell you want in
- 36:18this room 19. And it turns into a metaphorical
- 36:23like everybody has a room 19 in their own lives topics that you
- 36:27don't want to talk about that are sensitive.
- 36:30And it could be just your own history or it could just be a
- 36:34hobby. Like I need time to myself to.
- 36:39I think the term we would use now is self-care.
- 36:42Yeah. But back when I watched this, I
- 36:45didn't have of like a self-care. Self-care wasn't in the vocab in
- 36:4920/17/2018, so I like watching it now and coming back to it and
- 36:53thinking like the same thing that I thought then, but like
- 36:56with a little more vocab, I guess to back it up and be like,
- 36:59absolutely. Like mental health is so
- 37:02important and the way that people process information and
- 37:06need to. If you want the best you know,
- 37:11parts of them, that's fine, but sometimes people need space.
- 37:16Yeah, exactly. Mm hmm.
- 37:19So I thought that was really romantic and just so necessary
- 37:22to talk about the oh, sorry. This is the last thing I'll say
- 37:26is the patriarchy is so front and center in this show.
- 37:31Oh my gosh, I forgot how bad it went.
- 37:34Like and the first episode is just like they get right into
- 37:38it. The 1st 5 minutes it's like yeah
- 37:40I couldn't even blow up my own birthday candles.
- 37:42I'm like. What the hell?
- 37:44Not remember this like it's insane how detailed they go into
- 37:49it and it's just keeps getting brought up.
- 37:51But it's it's just like in the background, but it's always
- 37:54there. And it's also like a key
- 37:55component as to why she is the way that she is and she she
- 38:00thinks her life has to go a certain way.
- 38:02Yeah, and same for him, because his family is also super
- 38:06patriarchal and how he bucks that is a it's a direct result
- 38:11of things that happened in his life, which we get into later in
- 38:14the show. We find out later why he feels
- 38:16certain ways and why he has so much respect for the male, the
- 38:20female lead in the show. It's basically a trauma
- 38:24response, but the patriarchy and the like, misogynistic
- 38:32undertones of a lot of stuff and like the the highly gendered
- 38:37functions of the household where like the women should quit their
- 38:41jobs to be a homemaker. That's so crazy.
- 38:46And they're like questioning why the, you know, the male lead
- 38:50would make kimchi. Why should he do he it's OK.
- 38:55Like the women folk will do that.
- 38:57We sit here and drink all day and then they cook for us later
- 39:01in the evening. That's your function.
- 39:04And he's like, no, no, no, I'm going to make the kimchi.
- 39:06Like all of this is very not subtle in the in the show.
- 39:13I would, I would say, and I picked up on it way more.
- 39:16Now it might be just like the where I am in my life that I'm
- 39:19like, this is so not OK. And I love that the writer and
- 39:26the director and obviously the cast were so on board with
- 39:29tackling these really big issues.
- 39:32I always feel like K dramas are more, sometimes more progressive
- 39:37than Korean cinema because Korean cinema is still a boys
- 39:41club. I would say.
- 39:43Like, there's certainly, obviously you have female
- 39:45actresses and you have some screenwriters, but like, are
- 39:48there really famous female directors that you can look back
- 39:52on? Are there really feminist Korean
- 39:55cinema movies that you can really say like, this was
- 39:59tackling so many issues in such a nuanced way?
- 40:02I feel like K dramas, because they're written by women,
- 40:04sometimes even directed by women, the audience is for
- 40:09women, right? Like I don't feel like K dramas
- 40:11have necessarily been created for men, the male audience.
- 40:17You have these explorations of topics, social issues in Korea
- 40:23that is amazing to see on screen, and it's exported.
- 40:28And then we get it. We're getting it second hand,
- 40:29right? Like we we'd certainly live in a
- 40:31patriarchal society, but it's not what they have.
- 40:35You know what I'm saying? It's crazy.
- 40:37It's crazy to see it, and it's crazy to see how some Cage
- 40:41dramas are really ahead of the curve.
- 40:44Yeah. And and they, like I said, they
- 40:46portray it so well too. So it's like you get a better
- 40:49understanding of kind of what a day in the life is like with
- 40:53just watching that. And the sexism, the sexism is so
- 40:56bad. Rampant.
- 40:59It's bad blood boiling some of these scenes and I'm just like,
- 41:03that's awful. It's awful.
- 41:04So we both adore the show apparently, and I'm so glad even
- 41:09if you didn't, I was going to, I was going to sing it's praise.
- 41:11I would be like, this is so good, so underrated.
- 41:14But I'm so glad that you also loved it, Becky, And it was a
- 41:18nice rewatch for you, even if you kind of were kind of hoping
- 41:22for the ramp up a little quicker for the couple.
- 41:24But it's certainly a slow burn. But I almost feel like from the
- 41:28get go, you're like, there's something here, you know what
- 41:32I'm saying? Yeah, there's I I specifically
- 41:36right when you said that I thought about the hand holding
- 41:38scene. And.
- 41:41That was that scene is like I'm turning engraved in my memory
- 41:46because are you kidding me? Whoever wrote that scene, yes
- 41:51they get it. They.
- 41:52Understand. They understand.
- 41:53Yes, the female gaze. All right, so without further
- 41:57ado, I think we're going to get into the spoiler section.
- 41:59But before we do, what would you give the show out of five whole
- 42:022 bottles? OK so after rewatching it I feel
- 42:08like when I first watched it I was like 5 out of five.
- 42:10Absolutely. But now I feel since I have
- 42:13specific feelings about some of the characters, maybe like a 4.5
- 42:17out of five, maybe a four out of five, because rewatching it
- 42:21definitely made me realize, like some of the characters that I
- 42:25first really was like, Oh my gosh, I'm like, hold on a
- 42:27minute, That's a bit. So yeah, let's do 4.5 out of
- 42:31five. Oh my God, but that's super
- 42:33high. Super high. 4 1/2 soldier
- 42:35bottles out of five is still really high to me.
- 42:37I did like it, I love it. I would do the same score, maybe
- 42:41even push it to A5 because the rewatch was so pleasant to me.
- 42:46It was so comforting. This is a comfort drama for me,
- 42:49and everyone's comfort dramas are going to be different.
- 42:51Everyone has slightly different criteria for comfort dramas.
- 42:55But for me, like, I didn't realize it was a comfort drama
- 42:58until I pressed play on episode one again and I was like, Oh my
- 43:02God, I just feel like I'm home. Yeah, it's so good.
- 43:07It's so good. Even the highly upsetting parts.
- 43:09I'm like, it's all right. Like I like.
- 43:13Yeah, I love the main couple. It's fine.
- 43:16It's so good, so same score, maybe even higher for me.
- 43:21So we're going to get into the spoiler section right after
- 43:23this. If you do not care to be
- 43:26spoiled, then keep listening. If you want to go and watch this
- 43:29show even after some of the slightly spoiler things we've
- 43:32said, please do and come back later and finish this episode
- 43:36finishing out with us. All right, see you on the other
- 43:39side. You want to come in?
- 43:48All right, we are on the other side of spoilers.
- 43:50Anything goes. We're going to spoil the show,
- 43:52just so you know. All right, where do you want to
- 43:55start first, Becky? Because you mentioned a little
- 43:57bit of episode one where she says she never blew out a
- 44:01birthday candle and she's been living under the patriarchy and
- 44:06her dad is this machismo who would declare like, let's eat
- 44:12and plunge his fork into her birthday cake and eat a giant
- 44:16chunk of it straight from there like an animal.
- 44:21And no one is saying shit to him.
- 44:23No one's stopping him saying like, let her make a wish first
- 44:27or let's slice the cake like human beings.
- 44:31It's all on his timing and she didn't get to do a birthday wish
- 44:35or eat her cake first or anything until she turned 2020
- 44:41years old and that was jarring. And if you think about that,
- 44:47like how she's been living as like the daughter, like how do
- 44:50you think the wife's been living?
- 44:52Like it's, it's crazy to think about.
- 44:55And then especially like in the first episode, it talks about
- 44:58how she's the one who put the down payment on the House, but
- 45:02she doesn't, she doesn't get it because she's a woman.
- 45:05Look, look, look. And the men had to sign for the
- 45:08Oh, don't. It's giving.
- 45:11I can't, I can't, I can't vote. I can't like, take out a credit
- 45:14card in my own name. I can't own my own home.
- 45:18It's giving like the women's movement never happened.
- 45:22Is very frustrating to watch the first couple of episodes and see
- 45:26her like struggling against the patriarchy and trying to carve
- 45:30out her own life and pursue her own dreams and you're like,
- 45:34girl, you are stuck. Like it's bad.
- 45:38And even like with there's like this specific scene where she
- 45:43tells the brother's fiance or wife, I don't, I think that.
- 45:48Yeah, it was a was that his fiance and.
- 45:53I think, I think it was fiance, yeah.
- 45:56And they were gonna get married. She's like, you can still stay
- 46:00in the house. That's okay.
- 46:01And she lays it down for her. She's like, you are pregnant,
- 46:05you are not gonna do any cleaning.
- 46:06Who's the one that's gonna do the cleaning?
- 46:08Like your husbands or fiance is at work all day.
- 46:11I'm gonna be stuck with all your chores.
- 46:13I'm gonna be stuck with taking care of the kid.
- 46:15I'm gonna not be living for myself.
- 46:16I'm gonna be living in this house like for you guys.
- 46:20And that's just not how she wants to live.
- 46:22And I really appreciate how respectful she was with that
- 46:25because even telling her that she's like, you're young, you
- 46:28don't understand. I wish you like, I wish you guys
- 46:32the best and like, here's some money by yourself, like some
- 46:35good meat. And I love how like, like I
- 46:38said, respectful she was with that 'cause she could have been
- 46:40like. I would have roasted her.
- 46:42Like, yeah, she could have, she could have been like, I put the
- 46:44down payment on this house, but because of my gender, you guys
- 46:48get this house and you guys get to like, I have to struggle and
- 46:51not have a place to live. And then and then it just, it
- 46:55feels so bad to watch everything tumble apart because like, at
- 46:58first, you know, she really likes her job and you can see
- 47:01she's very happy. And then everything just kind of
- 47:03gets ripped away from her. And it is so sad.
- 47:06It's. Unfair.
- 47:07It's so unfair. It's so unfair.
- 47:09Job she was the assistant drama writer on for five years, she
- 47:14said. And she's now 30 years old.
- 47:16So she's dedicated half of her 20s to this job and she's been
- 47:23writing under this bitch. Like this lady is the head
- 47:27writer menace, a menace to society.
- 47:31She was changing her. Stuff, yes.
- 47:34Well, though she worked with her sister writer for five years and
- 47:37she was mostly putting product placement into the episodes and
- 47:41writing subplots. That's what she said.
- 47:43She she could write a subplot at this point.
- 47:45And they cut to some of the dramas, like I think it was one
- 47:50drama that she was working on. And you have a cameo from the
- 47:54lead on Let's Eat. I think his name is Yundojun.
- 48:01He's from the K Pop group highlight slash Beast, Do you
- 48:06know? OK.
- 48:07I don't think I know who you're talking about.
- 48:08Oh my God, I love him. So he's in.
- 48:09Let's see, he gets a giant cameo in this episode because they're
- 48:14playing out the scenario that she's writing and you cut to the
- 48:20head writer boss lady, and she just has no idea who the man,
- 48:24the female lead is. She doesn't care to learn about
- 48:27her. She's like she says, oh, you
- 48:31live on the West side of town, right?
- 48:33No, she lives on the east side of town.
- 48:36She's been working and living in this studio slash house thing
- 48:41where the head writer lives for a month.
- 48:44No, that's wrong. She's really been there for
- 48:46three months. Three months.
- 48:48That's right. But the lady thinks it's only
- 48:50about a month. Like how?
- 48:52She gets everything wrong. She's like, oh, don't you live
- 48:54with their older sister? And she's like, no, I live with
- 48:56my younger brother. She could not be more wrong
- 48:59about she does not care about her at all.
- 49:01She. Doesn't and it's and it hurts
- 49:03later on. Because.
- 49:05She makes it seem like she cares when things go wrong for her.
- 49:09When the girl finally starts sticking up for herself and
- 49:12being like no, I'm not going to. And then she's she is like, I'm
- 49:16here for you. Let's go get.
- 49:18Coffee and Ally. You think she's actually bonding
- 49:21with? Her to the person that hurt her
- 49:24the most, like what a terrible woman we're.
- 49:27Going to circle back on this woman and the inciting incident
- 49:31that makes her quit being a writer.
- 49:33But the younger brother in the apartment is just this.
- 49:38The apartment is in disarray. Like it's super disgusting.
- 49:43And despite saying over the phone to her friend, she was
- 49:47like, I'm going to go and take a hot shower and get in my bed and
- 49:51sleep in my bed. I can't wait to do like relax
- 49:53finally. Because she's been living out of
- 49:55a suitcase for three months trying to do all of this last
- 49:58minute shit on the script that they were working on.
- 50:01And she walks in, it's a pigsty. And she begins to clean up the
- 50:06apartment. She cleans up his mess.
- 50:08Like he doesn't give a shit about her.
- 50:10He's never cleaned anything in his life.
- 50:13He's just entitled because the father is just basically told
- 50:17him like you are the guy, you're gonna be in charge of this,
- 50:20you're gonna and and so he has this entitlement that he thinks
- 50:23he doesn't need to contribute. It's awful.
- 50:27Because she wasn't there for three months, you think he was
- 50:30mopping the floors and cleaning his dishes and making sure the
- 50:33apartment was at? No, he was like, oh, she'll deal
- 50:36with this when she gets back. I was like so offended by the
- 50:39brother I was like he doesn't give a shit about her at all.
- 50:42So rude and if it was a partner I would have been like leave
- 50:45him, leave him immediately. Her just walking in on them
- 50:50being romantic. Yeah, like.
- 50:52I mean, I get like, she's like, I don't want to live there
- 50:55anymore, obviously, because she has that like Prince of her
- 50:58brother and his. Mid coitus, Mid coitus.
- 51:02I can't believe it. So she, yeah, she walks in on
- 51:04them having sex and she's completely freaked out.
- 51:06She runs out of the apartment with her slippers on, her house
- 51:10slippers on, and he catches up to her.
- 51:13The brother catches up to her. And he's like, you need to come
- 51:15back inside and, like, say your greetings to the naked girl
- 51:18because, oh, 'cause she's his wife of four months.
- 51:22Yeah. And I was like, hold the phone.
- 51:24Hold the phone right now. She's been gone for three
- 51:27months. So that means he married her
- 51:30while she was still in the house, like living in the house
- 51:33with him for a month. They were married then.
- 51:36He was like, oh, perfect, she's on an assignment for three
- 51:38months. Come live with me in the house.
- 51:42Yeah. And then we can just take the.
- 51:43House. We can just take the house.
- 51:44My name and father will prove so awful.
- 51:48Literally. Awful.
- 51:49The dad. Her dad treats the
- 51:50daughter-in-law better than his own daughter like this.
- 51:54And then the sister-in-law. She kisses up.
- 51:56She is kissing. She kisses up to.
- 51:59Him kiss her so I hate it so annoying.
- 52:01It's so annoying. It's like see her be like oh and
- 52:05push like the plate of fish closer to him on the table.
- 52:08Like like, yeah, ridiculous, trying to ingratiate herself,
- 52:12but then like. Why?
- 52:14Like you said, she has the the female lead, Chung Sumen, has to
- 52:19move out of the house because it's in her brother's name.
- 52:24The dad did that, and in Korea that's commonplace.
- 52:29Even though she paid the deposit and all the expenses, he's been
- 52:33mooching off of her because he's still a student.
- 52:38I was like, ready to set the house on fire.
- 52:40I was like, oh, nobody's going to get the house now because.
- 52:44It was so. Bad.
- 52:46So aggravating. And then not to mention like how
- 52:49you were saying how he treats the daughter-in-law to how he
- 52:53treats his own daughter, like in the same situation, except she's
- 52:56not pregnant, right? She's gonna be getting married.
- 53:00He's like, I'm sorry she lacks so much.
- 53:03I'm sorry, she's not adequate to be a daughter-in-law Saying that
- 53:08too. She.
- 53:10Or her husband's like family. What a terrible this is.
- 53:14Later, later on the show, like for those who.
- 53:16Are saying I got angry. It's no, it's fine.
- 53:18But this is a little later when they are finally the families
- 53:21have met and I think it's their their wedding day is what
- 53:25you're. Referring to no.
- 53:26It's fine, it's fine. It's just terrible.
- 53:28It is terrible because the dad, Oh my God.
- 53:31Anyway, so everyone forgets her birthday.
- 53:34So there's a 16 Candles scenario in here as well, because all
- 53:38this is going on. It's her birthday.
- 53:39Yeah, it's terrible. Everyone forgets that it's her
- 53:44birthday and only her mom remembers and serves her seaweed
- 53:49soup late at night and is on her side.
- 53:51Like, she gives her some deposit money because she's a housewife,
- 53:55But because she's a housewife with no concept of, like, what
- 53:59things got, she saved up like, too little.
- 54:03So it's not nearly enough to get her another place.
- 54:09I have so many, like I just like the first episode is so good
- 54:14because things are moving really fast, but it is again like the
- 54:18patriarch is just beating her down.
- 54:21It is and it's hard to watch. It really is.
- 54:24You're just like, when does she get?
- 54:26When do things get better? Like I feel so bad for her and.
- 54:28Then only just gets worse. Oh man.
- 54:33But then she meets the male lead, I think at the end of the
- 54:36episode. Is that right?
- 54:38She meets him. She.
- 54:39She meets him and. No.
- 54:42At the no, they meet at the party because he's he's at he's
- 54:45there for another thing. So I love that they made us so
- 54:49painfully aware of how socially awkward he is because from the
- 54:53get go, people like they're having a sensitive private
- 54:56conversation where like you think this man's going to
- 54:59confess and then he's like, hello, please move.
- 55:02And they're like, what? And then and then she sees him
- 55:05watching sports and then they have something in common.
- 55:08And so they end up watching sports together.
- 55:09I think it's really cute how he like opens up to her.
- 55:12And then from there, you know, she's thinking this guy, if we
- 55:16have something in common, he seems nice.
- 55:19And then that's why the bus stop scene happens, because she just
- 55:22feels kind of deflated after seeing, you know, the person
- 55:27that she has a crush on with someone else.
- 55:28And she's like, I'll never find love.
- 55:30And then she's like, hey, there's the bus stop guy.
- 55:31And then he says some things that comfort her.
- 55:34She's like, yeah, I'm just gonna go for it.
- 55:36I'm just gonna give him a kiss. Why not?
- 55:37I'm never gonna kiss someone in my life, so might as well just
- 55:40kiss a stranger. Right.
- 55:41So lots of things happening here because she has a crush on the
- 55:44director of the drama that they just wrapped on and it's a
- 55:48young, hot like director. Or flirts with her and he's
- 55:52flirting with her. He's definitely leading her on.
- 55:55And so there's this moment in this restaurant or parlor or
- 55:59whatever where they're by the bathrooms, and you think that
- 56:02this director dude is going to confess to her.
- 56:05But that's when the male lead comes in and he's like, squeeze
- 56:08me, Can you move and interrupt their flow?
- 56:11So then later on, yeah. So then later on, she's outside
- 56:16just kind of catching her breath and the male lead is outside
- 56:19watching soccer, I think an Arsenal game on his phone,
- 56:22'cause they're fans of Arsenal, both of them.
- 56:24And she's watching over his shoulder.
- 56:26They have like this good moment of or establishing rapport.
- 56:29And then she looks over just as she's talking about this crush
- 56:33that she has on the sky and sees the direct, the young director
- 56:37dude walking around outside and canoodling with another woman.
- 56:42And the other woman is not just anybody.
- 56:44It's the female lead from the show that they've just wrapped.
- 56:47It's. Crazy.
- 56:50So it's not like it was some other woman.
- 56:51It was like the the female lead of the show that they had just
- 56:57wrapped. That like hits.
- 56:59Her it hurts. It hurts so hard because he's
- 57:02been flirting and leading her on for years it seems like.
- 57:05So she's feeling extremely deflated like you said, and they
- 57:09meet up at the her and the male lead even keep meet up at the
- 57:13bus stop later. And he basically kind of
- 57:16comforts her. And I have this whole thing that
- 57:20he it's like this whole monologue about the neocortex.
- 57:25Do you remember him talking to her about that?
- 57:28And later on to your first time, it's like, oh, like the
- 57:30neocortex guy. So he talks about cats don't
- 57:36have a neocortex, even though they eat the same food everyday
- 57:40are the are in the same house everyday living each day to the
- 57:42same. They don't feel depressed or
- 57:44bored. To them, time is only the
- 57:46current moment. Because I'm, I'll be, I'm 30 and
- 57:53because I'll be 40 soon. Like the only species that
- 57:56confines itself to partitions of time like that is the human
- 57:59race, human species. Only humans attack age as a
- 58:03weakness and spend money on it, and it causes them to spend
- 58:06emotions is the price we pay for having an evolved neocortex.
- 58:10So he's basically kind of giving her some perspective and it's
- 58:14comforting her in a weird way. Because he's peculiar way.
- 58:17Peculiar way you could tell he's like super robotic and very
- 58:22socially awkward but before she gets on the bus she just goes
- 58:29for it and like kisses this dude.
- 58:32So silly. It's so silly but I remember
- 58:35watching it and be like Oh my God I forgot to.
- 58:39And, and she asks him for cuz I think he's gonna get a taxi.
- 58:42Like she asked him to go on the bus, but like he's, she's like,
- 58:46can you take the bus or something?
- 58:47So then they're sitting there and they're being awkward.
- 58:49And then she kisses him and gets on the bus.
- 58:51He's just still. Standing there not getting.
- 58:53On the bus. It's not a bad kiss either, like
- 58:57I remember being, not that's it. She went in.
- 59:00OK, I mean, not tongue or anything, but I'm just like no,
- 59:03she that wasn't. Her first kiss.
- 59:05I know because the other thing we haven't touched on is that
- 59:09she hasn't had any experience dating.
- 59:12She has never been kissed. I would.
- 59:15So this is like she's almost like I'm getting old.
- 59:18I need to like do something about this because I'm so
- 59:23frustrated. I can't read the room even.
- 59:25I can't even. I'm still in this realm of
- 59:29getting crushed by a crush. And it's like she probably is
- 59:33like, you know, I'm so old, like, why am I feeling these
- 59:36feelings right now? I haven't even experienced love
- 59:38and I'm feeling heartbreak like, you know, and, and so it, it
- 59:42goes into that a lot. And I really, it doesn't really
- 59:46touch around the fact that she's like lonely, but it's there.
- 59:50Like you see it in some of the scenes that like it's, it's
- 59:54just, it's kind of hidden, the scenes.
- 59:56For sure. For sure in episode 2 I hated
- 1:00:00this too because she. Gets with the director again,
- 1:00:04the sleazeball director because he's like, oh, I want you to
- 1:00:08write this new drama and it'll be her first head writing gig.
- 1:00:14And when they go into that meeting with the director and
- 1:00:19the PD, the head writer bitch comes in the room too and like.
- 1:00:26It changes everything. It changes everything because it
- 1:00:29means they've been going behind her back to hire the head writer
- 1:00:33to Co write this show with her and.
- 1:00:36It's not her work, it's it's her trying to like first of all,
- 1:00:40take someone else's work and change it and warp it around,
- 1:00:43but also put on a label as it's hers.
- 1:00:46Like she came up with the idea, she came up with the concepts
- 1:00:48and that is so rude and. Disrespectful.
- 1:00:50It's so unethical. It's so unethical.
- 1:00:53Yeah, disrespectful and awful and just it's such a snake like
- 1:01:00behavior. So when she comes in the room,
- 1:01:01like the air gets sucked out of the room.
- 1:01:03Like I remember gasping OK the guest that I guessed when that
- 1:01:08bitch walked in the room, I was like, Oh my God, no they didn't.
- 1:01:11She just gets blindsided or like Joseph's character is completely
- 1:01:15blindsided. Then the bitch says oh I have
- 1:01:18all these notes and changes and she's just completely over
- 1:01:21overridden her story, her setup. And yeah, she like speaks up for
- 1:01:29herself in the room, which I really loved that she finally
- 1:01:32did that because you have to imagine how many years this has
- 1:01:35been happening where she didn't speak up for herself because of
- 1:01:38how she was raised. Yeah.
- 1:01:39And she speaks up for herself. It's good.
- 1:01:43And then, like, I, I feel this is where I get so sad because
- 1:01:46she finally, through all the finally speaks up for herself.
- 1:01:50It's like, no, I don't like that.
- 1:01:52That's not my writing. That's not what I wrote.
- 1:01:54And gets blindsided once again because it's no one's on her
- 1:02:00team, like no one is on her team.
- 1:02:02And they pretend they're on her team.
- 1:02:04And then when something happens where they need her to be on the
- 1:02:07team, where they, they, they need her, they pretend.
- 1:02:10And it's so hurtful and it's I hated them.
- 1:02:14I'm so glad she, she made the decision to.
- 1:02:18I mean, we're talking about spoilers.
- 1:02:19No, it's all spoilers territory. She.
- 1:02:21Left the company. She leaves the production.
- 1:02:24Yeah, Yeah. She just, she offends the head
- 1:02:28writer in this meeting. The young director wants her to
- 1:02:31apologize, the sleazeball director.
- 1:02:35And he eventually, like that night I believe, he shows up
- 1:02:39drunk to the little closet room he hooked her up with and tries
- 1:02:44to sexually assault her. That is the inciting incident
- 1:02:47that makes her completely wash her hands of the production,
- 1:02:52wash her hands of writing entirely.
- 1:02:54She's like, I'm quitting writing.
- 1:02:57And in that moment after she like, shoves her because he's
- 1:03:01drunk. So she manages to shove him off
- 1:03:04of her. And she says the worst thing
- 1:03:08about him is not that he let her on for three years while he had
- 1:03:11a girlfriend. And it's not that he messed with
- 1:03:13her work, but that this is the only place she has to sleep.
- 1:03:19And he came in and kicked her out like he ruined it.
- 1:03:23She just wanted to sleep because she had this crazy meeting
- 1:03:27earlier where she basically quits the her own project, her
- 1:03:32first head writing project. And like it, he comes in like
- 1:03:36fucks it up. Like he literally could not
- 1:03:38have. She's chosen a worse time to do
- 1:03:41it. Yeah.
- 1:03:42And then before that, I mean, doesn't the, the guys 'cause
- 1:03:46they're roommates? Well, we, I mean, oh, we skipped
- 1:03:48over this whole thing. We skipped over a lot.
- 1:03:51There was like a miscommunication thing where
- 1:03:54even Keith's character is looking for a roommate,
- 1:03:56obviously a male roommate. And then she's also looking for
- 1:03:58a place to live because now she got kicked out of that
- 1:04:01apartment. Her brother and his wife are
- 1:04:04taking over that so frustrating, but that apartment.
- 1:04:08So she's looking for a place to live and her friend says all of
- 1:04:12this, this place that's looking for a roommate, this landlord is
- 1:04:18looking for a tenant. And obviously she thinks it's a
- 1:04:21female landlord. I think they have different
- 1:04:24schedules, so it's crazy because they go days without seeing
- 1:04:28each, right. But like he has strict rules.
- 1:04:30And you even see like when he first has a meeting with his old
- 1:04:34roommate, he's like, you have to make sure you feed the cat.
- 1:04:36You have to make sure you do the recyclables.
- 1:04:38You have to make sure you do this, this, this, this.
- 1:04:40And like guy roommates, right? Normally they're really sloppy
- 1:04:43and they aren't going to follow your rules.
- 1:04:45And so like he has like a specific set.
- 1:04:48He even has like, not a graph. What is it?
- 1:04:51Yeah, I think it is a graph. That's like a whole thing.
- 1:04:54It's a graph of, of like, rating his roommates.
- 1:04:57Yeah. And she gets the highest score
- 1:04:59even though he hasn't met her. And then he realizes that it is
- 1:05:02the girl that kissed him at the bus stop.
- 1:05:04And things get a little more complicated, but they discuss
- 1:05:07how like, she's like, I don't like you like that.
- 1:05:10This isn't love. And then he's like, oh, wait,
- 1:05:12this works great. Like, OK, yeah, why not?
- 1:05:15And then his mother, I have to tell you, the family, the family
- 1:05:21really messed them up. I was every time his, like, his
- 1:05:25or her family came on screen, I was like, please just leave
- 1:05:29these poor babies alone. They just they don't need you.
- 1:05:32They just want to live peacefully.
- 1:05:35That's all they want. There's not even like an
- 1:05:38underlining meaning like that's what it is.
- 1:05:40And the mother is like, how can you have her live here if she's
- 1:05:43just gonna be your roommate? And that's when she ends up,
- 1:05:45like feeling awkward. I mean, like, I can't be here.
- 1:05:48But they had just they were just about to make agreement.
- 1:05:51To like, live together even though she's a girl and he's a
- 1:05:54guy. It took so long for him to be
- 1:05:57like. One and two, we're not even that
- 1:05:59deep in the show. It's like, why don't you, Oh my
- 1:06:01God, the mom just by the chance? That's when the mom says, oh,
- 1:06:04your dad will divorce me if you don't get married.
- 1:06:07If you don't get married. Insanity, insanity, insanity.
- 1:06:12I don't. I just don't get it.
- 1:06:14I don't, I mean, and I don't think I ever will get it, but I
- 1:06:16mean, it's crazy because there are parts in different countries
- 1:06:19where that is. That's a thing.
- 1:06:21Yeah. Still.
- 1:06:22I know. I know.
- 1:06:24And that's. So that it's like one thing
- 1:06:27after a hit after hit. And then I think that I love the
- 1:06:30conversation they have after the mom leaves, 'cause she's like
- 1:06:33trying to soften the blow, 'cause she was hiding during
- 1:06:36this whole conversation in the room.
- 1:06:38She was like hiding. She was like, she heard it all.
- 1:06:41So she heard it. And she says to him, all parents
- 1:06:45want what's best for their children, which is a nice dip
- 1:06:47diplomatic answer to his situation.
- 1:06:50And he says they are all alike in their selfishness, wanting to
- 1:06:55fulfill their own desires through their children.
- 1:06:59And that's true. What in a stunt observation?
- 1:07:02Like that's so true. I don't give a shit.
- 1:07:05Like they're doing this for them, not for me.
- 1:07:07I have nothing to do with it. It's all about their reputation,
- 1:07:10how they look in front of their friends and colleagues, how I
- 1:07:14can elevate them and the family name and just nothing to do with
- 1:07:20his happiness and what he wants out of life and them respecting
- 1:07:24his choices. And he just blasts through this
- 1:07:27really diplomatic answer that she gave us like, well, you
- 1:07:30know, parents want what's best for you.
- 1:07:31He's like, fuck that, no. Like, no, no, but she she still
- 1:07:36feels like she has to leave. And then that's why she gets in
- 1:07:40that situation with the director, which, oh, don't even
- 1:07:43get me started on that. Because can we just talk about
- 1:07:45the fact that like, first of all, right, this man that
- 1:07:48flirted with her for three years that she had a crush on, that
- 1:07:51she respected. Yeah, OK.
- 1:07:53She found out he has a thing and then.
- 1:07:56She still worked with him after that.
- 1:07:57She still is like, OK, like, he like, I still trust him, though,
- 1:08:02and I believe him to be a good friend.
- 1:08:04And then he's like, oh, I have a spot.
- 1:08:05You can sleep since you don't have anywhere to go.
- 1:08:07And then he shows up drunk and he's like, why'd you ruin
- 1:08:10everything and why are you? And then he's trying to take
- 1:08:12advantage of her. Yes.
- 1:08:14Tries to. This is like so heartbreaking
- 1:08:17because you have to think like, this is probably her only like
- 1:08:21guy friend that she's had for years and years that she's
- 1:08:24trusted and that she's looked up to.
- 1:08:27And he just, he just does that to her, makes her not want to
- 1:08:30write again and makes her quit production.
- 1:08:32Like it's it's so. And the way they portray it to
- 1:08:35like with what you said, her her whole thing about like, I just
- 1:08:38wanted a place to sleep. Yeah, her walking back on the
- 1:08:42highway in pajamas and breaking down it, it crushes your soul.
- 1:08:49Because this is something that like, I mean, like I said, I
- 1:08:53think they, they touch on this topic really well 'cause this is
- 1:08:56like, sadly can be a common thing just in the workplace and
- 1:09:00just like daily, daily life. Mm hmm.
- 1:09:03And it's so hard to even think about how much, you know, they
- 1:09:07go through and what they have to deal with and like in their
- 1:09:11minds, like psychologically like did I?
- 1:09:13Is it because I stood up for myself that this person is now
- 1:09:17thinking that they can you know and and it it.
- 1:09:20That they can treat me. Like this hard, it's so hard.
- 1:09:24And and I mean, they do that also with the side characters,
- 1:09:27like with the with the mango. But the thing I love what they
- 1:09:30do with her with her friend, the one that's very like strong
- 1:09:34willed and like very amazing and very good at her job, but she
- 1:09:38still is getting harassed at work constantly.
- 1:09:42It's I, I love when she finally finds someone like that has like
- 1:09:47they, they both care for each other and like each other.
- 1:09:50And he's like, you should be, you should try telling them your
- 1:09:54feelings and that this is not a good thing to do.
- 1:09:56And she's like, OK, yeah. And she tries it and it she
- 1:10:00realizes it's not going to work. And then.
- 1:10:03So this is one of the last three episodes or something of the
- 1:10:07show when Suji, the best friend, has this relationship with the
- 1:10:12CEO. He's adorable, by the way.
- 1:10:15Like I love them. He's so cute.
- 1:10:17They're so cute. So I, I really love the the
- 1:10:20side, the second couple, basically there's three couples
- 1:10:23in the show, but that's one of the couples.
- 1:10:26And yeah, he tells her like, basically to stop holding in her
- 1:10:30feelings and, you know, kind of serve it back to them in a very
- 1:10:36like, talk it out. Basically, man up and talk it
- 1:10:40out with these guys instead of just giving them the easy way
- 1:10:43out and diffusing the situation by not saying anything.
- 1:10:48And she goes, OK, it gives her strength because he's like, I
- 1:10:51think you can do this. Like you can stand up for
- 1:10:54yourself. So she does it.
- 1:10:57She tells the guy one-on-one, like, I need you to apologize
- 1:11:00for all your batshit sexual harassment behaviour.
- 1:11:03You've made my life here a living hell.
- 1:11:05For the past three years, we've worked together.
- 1:11:06She calculated how many hours they've worked together and
- 1:11:09stuff. And he goes, OK, yeah, I'll,
- 1:11:12I'll apologize. That was what she wanted.
- 1:11:13I want an apology from you, a public apologize apology.
- 1:11:18He. Works it into this toast that
- 1:11:21they were doing at A at a restaurant because they have a
- 1:11:25work dinner. And he's completely not
- 1:11:30apologized. Like he was like, yeah, and I'm
- 1:11:31sorry for whatever and whatever. He didn't know specifics.
- 1:11:35No sincerity. He's just trying to save face
- 1:11:40and do the bare fucking minimum to appease her and she gets so
- 1:11:46mad she blows a gasket. And I love the female rage.
- 1:11:52This is an accurate portrayal of female rage.
- 1:11:54It is, it is no, and it's a great, it's a great observation
- 1:11:58of it. Honestly, God, the female rage
- 1:12:00that comes from her because she's so it's like the clarity
- 1:12:04that comes in that moment to her and the like the wickedness that
- 1:12:10rages through her. I was like, yeah, this is so
- 1:12:12accurate, 'cause she was, he was the accuracy.
- 1:12:16Like she there was, she was seeing red, but it wasn't chaos.
- 1:12:20It was, it was order. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:12:22Yeah, yeah. She was like, you know what?
- 1:12:24I'm I'm done doing it the way that I I thought would work, and
- 1:12:27I'm going to do it my way now. And this is how it's going to.
- 1:12:30Go. So she basically becomes a
- 1:12:32predator in that moment. Maybe because she stalks him
- 1:12:35back to the office because they were, he was like, we're going
- 1:12:37to go for a second round, whatever, but I've got to do
- 1:12:39something at the office. So he goes back to the office by
- 1:12:42himself and she follows him like she stalks him, follows him.
- 1:12:46He has no idea by the way, he has no clue that she's there.
- 1:12:48He's drunk, he's drunk, he's kind of buzzed or whatever, and
- 1:12:51he just has no clue. So she's following him back to
- 1:12:54the office and she stands behind him at the elevator and he
- 1:13:00suddenly realizes that she's there and he's like, oh,
- 1:13:02whatever. He gets in the elevator and I
- 1:13:05just love the moment where she's just, it's so calm it.
- 1:13:09Is she's. She unbuttons her her coat as he
- 1:13:14the elevator doors open and the width the punch that she gives
- 1:13:18him is so like she came from way behind, you know what I'm
- 1:13:24saying? Like she used her whole body to
- 1:13:26fucking pound him in the face and he falls into the elevator.
- 1:13:31He she knocks him clean out. And if you think about it like,
- 1:13:36I don't know if they, I guess they're insinuating there are no
- 1:13:39cameras in the elevator. So it literally looks like she's
- 1:13:42just like she just puts her hand up and then no one will know.
- 1:13:47No, like, how will they know? No one will know if there's no
- 1:13:51elevator, if there's no elevator camera don't know.
- 1:13:54He just has a black like a or I think she said she punches him
- 1:13:57in the mouth. Yeah, because like, I mean, the
- 1:14:00stuff he has said, like, first of all, regarding her, like
- 1:14:03chest size or when they're at the office at night.
- 1:14:05He's like, you know what they say when single woman are at the
- 1:14:08office with a married man. Like literally thank you for
- 1:14:12punching him in the mouth. I've been waiting for that for
- 1:14:14so many episodes. Like it was so satisfied.
- 1:14:18For real. Oh my.
- 1:14:19God, so, so satisfying. But it's such a perfect
- 1:14:22portrayal of female rage, I thought, And it was so
- 1:14:26warranted. It was beyond warranted at that
- 1:14:28point because she was like, you can't.
- 1:14:30I think she was on the phone with her boyfriend while she's
- 1:14:32talking the guy back to the office.
- 1:14:33Yeah, I tried. Talking to him and there's just
- 1:14:36a reasoning with people, he's an animal, blah blah.
- 1:14:39And the boyfriends like what are you saying?
- 1:14:42He's like having game night with his, like coworkers and he's
- 1:14:45like, do I need to? What's happening?
- 1:14:46What's happening? She's like, I love you.
- 1:14:48Goodbye. And yeah, she.
- 1:14:49Hangs up by saying like I love you and then click, she hangs up
- 1:14:51and he's like, Oh my God is. That her last will.
- 1:14:54And I gotta go. What's happening?
- 1:14:57It's so funny. Oh, I love this couple so much
- 1:15:00though, because like, I love how they like feed off of each
- 1:15:04other. Oh my God.
- 1:15:04And not necessarily when they even like, see it because like
- 1:15:07when she first goes to talk to the guy, she's like, let's get
- 1:15:10us like, let's have a cigarette or something.
- 1:15:12And then she like stamps out the cigarette in his drink.
- 1:15:16I was like, just like, you know, But then later, like her
- 1:15:18boyfriend is like, let's have a cigarette.
- 1:15:20And it's like the same, the same mindset.
- 1:15:24And then he's like, oh, like, why aren't you?
- 1:15:25So I, I quit smoking and just like staring at him.
- 1:15:28And then she rides up in her motorcycle.
- 1:15:31He's like, you know, like, that's right.
- 1:15:34That's so silly. They are so silly.
- 1:15:36I love them together. There's two contracts in the
- 1:15:40show. So one is the marriage contract
- 1:15:42slash tenant landlord contract from the male lead and female
- 1:15:45lead. And then there's also a dating
- 1:15:47contract between those two. Like Suji and the CEO also have
- 1:15:51a dating contract. And he was shocked because the
- 1:15:54conditions are like, for them it was you can't ask anything
- 1:15:59personal about me. We cannot meet in each other's
- 1:16:03homes. We are always going to meet in a
- 1:16:05hotel. And I think the third one was if
- 1:16:09we meet once, we have to have sex twice.
- 1:16:11Yeah. It was like a physical one.
- 1:16:13Yeah. And he's like, OK, I'm down for
- 1:16:15that. He's he's so conflicted about
- 1:16:18signing the contract with her because he's like, I actually
- 1:16:21want to get to know her and like, what do you mean I can't
- 1:16:24ask questions? What do you mean you have to
- 1:16:25meet in a hotel room? But then he's like, he meets,
- 1:16:27sees the third condition. He's like, but like, that's a
- 1:16:31good deal, right? There, I could do it, but then,
- 1:16:34but then later she like, you know, 'cause she's struggling
- 1:16:38with like if she wants to be in a relationship and what a
- 1:16:41relationship entails for her. So she's like, you have to like
- 1:16:44leave your company if you want, if you like really, truly.
- 1:16:47And he's like, I don't think I can.
- 1:16:48Do right, she cares. She got.
- 1:16:50She got super spooked though, yeah.
- 1:16:53So she said this out of like she didn't think much of of the
- 1:16:57consequences of saying this. She was just scared that because
- 1:17:01she had just gotten slut, there's this whole thing right
- 1:17:03where she got slut shamed at work by the female employees
- 1:17:08like her call female colleagues were in the bathroom talking
- 1:17:12shit about her because she doesn't like wearing bras she
- 1:17:16hates. Doing it like at the office,
- 1:17:18she's like when she's out of the office, but then she's always
- 1:17:21running back and forth, so like. Yeah, her job is like in and out
- 1:17:25of the office and sometimes she comes back to the office, no
- 1:17:27bra, goes straight to the bathroom, puts on a bra and then
- 1:17:29goes about her day in the office.
- 1:17:32Exactly. And that people, the males of
- 1:17:35course, notice that she doesn't wear a bra sometimes very few
- 1:17:39times, but it's enough to like cause rumors caused a stir.
- 1:17:42The female employees are slut shaming her because, oh, she's a
- 1:17:45floozy. She doesn't like, I didn't know
- 1:17:47she was like that. She didn't like wearing a bra
- 1:17:48and all this stuff and meeting with male clients.
- 1:17:52And did you know what happened at this dinner or whatever else?
- 1:17:54And it's like they link her with him with the CEO character
- 1:17:59because he stood up for her in a meeting, in a lunch dinner
- 1:18:02meeting. And so they were like, oh, she's
- 1:18:05definitely like sleeping with that guy.
- 1:18:06And so she got spooked. Then he texts her and he's like,
- 1:18:09I'm downstairs if at the cafe, if you want to meet, I'll take
- 1:18:13you to dinner tonight. And she like, blows up in his
- 1:18:15face because the sexual harassment plus the slut shaming
- 1:18:19from her female colleagues and the whole hullabaloo about her
- 1:18:24not wearing a bra. It was a lot for her on that
- 1:18:27day. And she was like, I can't don't.
- 1:18:29I'm not dating you. I can't date.
- 1:18:31I just wanted to sleep with you, not date you.
- 1:18:34If you want to date me, quit being a CEO basically stole off
- 1:18:38your company Yeah, because her his company was a client up
- 1:18:43there. It was like, that's the whole
- 1:18:44thing. So he takes it to heart though,
- 1:18:48and he. Hasn't he's like, I really like
- 1:18:52her so much I could sell my company, but I really I love
- 1:18:56both equally. And she realizes in that moment
- 1:18:59like, wow, he actually. He cares.
- 1:19:01Cares about me, yeah. So she needed to see that.
- 1:19:04She did. She needed to see his little
- 1:19:06tears. He was crying and everyone's
- 1:19:09like, why are you crying? He's like, I wasn't crying.
- 1:19:12Denying that he's been. Crying eyes are.
- 1:19:14So bloodshot. Like Sir?
- 1:19:17I don't know. Absolutely nobody.
- 1:19:20Oh my gosh, it was so much fun. But then, yeah, they start
- 1:19:23making on the car and they have like a deeply sexual
- 1:19:26relationship. But he definitely wants to get
- 1:19:28to know her. He's super intrigued by her.
- 1:19:32So she but she's a vixen. Like she's a very typical vixen
- 1:19:36type character. Who I think it was the other
- 1:19:41man, the developer kid who was with the other best friend.
- 1:19:46Yeah. The CEO asks him, like, I see
- 1:19:50that you know this girl Suji, like what's what's her deal?
- 1:19:54What do you what do you think if we dated and stuff like that
- 1:19:57trying to get the low down on her before he signed the
- 1:19:59contract? And he's like, yeah, man, nobody
- 1:20:03can handle her. I can't handle her.
- 1:20:04I had nothing to do with her in in college and stuff.
- 1:20:08She had so many suitors and so many people asking her how she
- 1:20:10was very popular. But like he said, I cannot
- 1:20:14handle that source code. I think it's what he said
- 1:20:18because he's a fucking developer.
- 1:20:19It's like, so nerdy. Love IT talk, I know.
- 1:20:23And I was like, OK, he said. He, she would ruin you, is what
- 1:20:28he said. He's like, you cannot, she would
- 1:20:31ruin you. And I'd like that.
- 1:20:34I I kind of think it's funny that they are really different
- 1:20:38personalities. Oh, they're opposites for sure.
- 1:20:40Complete opposites the CEO and Suji, but they work like they're
- 1:20:45compatible and he really wants it like he loves her.
- 1:20:50Yeah. It's cute.
- 1:20:52It's so cute I. Love them together so I forgot
- 1:20:55how much I like them. Me too.
- 1:20:57Rewatched it and I'm like they're just so cute like and
- 1:20:59they have good communication once they start communicating
- 1:21:02like it's good communication unlike another couple which.
- 1:21:06Oh, oh, we are. We are seguing from the male
- 1:21:10lead and female lead and the second couple, which is Suji and
- 1:21:14the CEO and we're going to the third couple, which is the BFF.
- 1:21:19Oh my God, what's her name? Such a disaster.
- 1:21:21It was a disaster. So this relationship, what do
- 1:21:24you have to say about hold on and one suck?
- 1:21:28Who's the developer that I was just talking about?
- 1:21:32OK First things first, I feel like there was a lot of
- 1:21:36miscommunication like she should have just told him her feelings.
- 1:21:39He should have told her his feelings.
- 1:21:41She should have been direct because he is like at first like
- 1:21:44re watching it I'm like he's a himbo like he's a himbo for
- 1:21:47sure. But he, but then, you know, I'm
- 1:21:51seeing him act in, you know, all these other scenarios and I'm
- 1:21:55like, wait, like, what is his audacity here?
- 1:21:57Like what is he doing? Like what are?
- 1:22:00And and it just gets worse and worse.
- 1:22:02And I'm, I'm not going to lie, I'm not going to lie, I forgot
- 1:22:05like as I'm watching this, I'm like, OK, so on this, I mean,
- 1:22:10we're on the spoiler section. So like, obviously they break up
- 1:22:13and they're like trying to figure out how to live without
- 1:22:17each other. And like in most breakups, it
- 1:22:19takes along like it takes a while and she's starting to
- 1:22:24figure out what she wants and what, you know, she wants to do.
- 1:22:28And he's doing the same. And I'm like, oh, thank.
- 1:22:31Like, you know what? I think they're better off not
- 1:22:32together. I think that's good for them to
- 1:22:35work on themselves because there was something going on when they
- 1:22:37were together that just wasn't, it was toxic.
- 1:22:40It wasn't, it wasn't a real relationship.
- 1:22:43And at the end when they're like together with a kid, I'm like, I
- 1:22:46don't know if that's gonna last. I don't.
- 1:22:48I after seeing everything, I don't know.
- 1:22:50They went through a lot of trial and error and perhaps maybe they
- 1:22:54can work it out. But there is so much that
- 1:22:56happened that was messy. And I just don't think I want
- 1:23:00wanted them together at the end. I think it would have been a
- 1:23:03better lesson to see them grow off on their own.
- 1:23:05Yeah, I completely agree. I thought this was a very so
- 1:23:09this relationship and her character Hoorong.
- 1:23:14She's a traditional like what? Like oh trad wife.
- 1:23:18She wants to be a trad wife. That is always been her goal was
- 1:23:23to marry someone and become a homemaker.
- 1:23:29That was her life's goal. That was that was what she
- 1:23:31wanted out of life. And it was brutal to see her
- 1:23:36hitch her horse to this dumb ass.
- 1:23:40Like he was literally I, I could see it and I couldn't see it
- 1:23:45because she laid out exactly what she was looking for.
- 1:23:49She was like, I want someone who makes their own money and made
- 1:23:55their own fortune versus someone who was already rich.
- 1:24:00And she got it in her head that engineering was the was the
- 1:24:05industry that was most popping off right now had the most
- 1:24:08potential. And so she wanted to marry an
- 1:24:10engineer. So he met all of her criteria,
- 1:24:13right? But she fell in love with
- 1:24:15potential. Yeah.
- 1:24:18Like, she basically was with him for seven years.
- 1:24:22And there was a lot of talk from her about how she trained him to
- 1:24:27be better, how she trained him to basically be a be a good
- 1:24:32boyfriend. And I think people like, what
- 1:24:37does it mean to like to train someone?
- 1:24:39It means she basically built him up.
- 1:24:41Yeah. Built him up from scratch
- 1:24:43because he was probably wearing the same underwear for a week
- 1:24:48and just a hit. Like you said Himbo could not
- 1:24:53function without her. Like she was everything she
- 1:24:56cooked, she cleaned, she maintained him, she supported
- 1:25:00him and that is I. I was like, it was unacceptable
- 1:25:06to me to for her to do this for seven years without ever having
- 1:25:14the hard conversation of, hey, are we going to get married?
- 1:25:16Do you want to get married? What is your life goal?
- 1:25:19Because his dream was to get his app off the ground, his startup.
- 1:25:27And when they said what the startup was, what the app did, I
- 1:25:30was like throwing chairs in the room.
- 1:25:32I was so sad. It's like, what is this concept
- 1:25:36if you're in a happy relationship like I just I don't
- 1:25:39know where the inspiration came to me.
- 1:25:41Like I don't he. Says so this is what his app
- 1:25:44did. So I was initially like I
- 1:25:47couldn't remember what his app did until the they said it in
- 1:25:50the RE when I rewatched. It skipped it.
- 1:25:52So wait, tell me. OK, so the app his app is an
- 1:25:55alarm clock app between friends. So you can set alarms for your
- 1:26:00friend. That's so.
- 1:26:01Stupid to wake up so much. Family and friends like you can
- 1:26:04set alarms for each other and that's all the app did.
- 1:26:08OK, no, I skipped that when I skipped a lot of his scenes.
- 1:26:12OK that's fine I totally understand but when they said
- 1:26:15this I was like get the fuck out of here.
- 1:26:17Like that is the lamest app. Who would want to buy that?
- 1:26:22No one. Literally.
- 1:26:23And his point was like, there's so many useless apps out there,
- 1:26:26like some that will like do this, that and the other, why is
- 1:26:29my app so useless compared to other useless apps that are
- 1:26:33doing well and people want them and buy them.
- 1:26:39And I was like, do you hear yourself?
- 1:26:41Do you hear yourself? So he was like demoralized from
- 1:26:46the process of just dealing with, I think he dealt with the
- 1:26:53development team at the app, the other app, which was dating, not
- 1:26:59marriage. Yeah, that's why I was like, I
- 1:27:01was confused for a second. I was like, he didn't make that,
- 1:27:03but I'm like, OK, no. He didn't do that app, but he he
- 1:27:07showed up one day at the office at some point and they were
- 1:27:09like, oh, you're the developer of the alarm clock app or
- 1:27:12whatever. And he was like, yeah, I am.
- 1:27:14And they were like, Oh, well, we all used it the other day.
- 1:27:18And he was like, he, he was my app.
- 1:27:19He was like, so stunned. And they go, yeah, we, we, if we
- 1:27:23ever met the developer, we all wanted to say something.
- 1:27:27And he was like, tell me like, what do you want to say?
- 1:27:29It's like, why would you make that app?
- 1:27:34And he was devastated that they were criticizing his app.
- 1:27:39Like why would you put all your all of this effort into this
- 1:27:44stupid ass app? For real and then like not to
- 1:27:47mention it started to take over his life like you could
- 1:27:50literally see he didn't care about his relationship.
- 1:27:54And that's the part I forgot about the ticket part like
- 1:27:56literally I forgot about that part.
- 1:27:58And I think it's so crazy that like, she's like, we're gonna go
- 1:28:01on a date, We're gonna we're gonna watch this show.
- 1:28:04And he and she asks him to buy the tickets, I believe multiple
- 1:28:08times. Yeah.
- 1:28:09And he's like, OK, I'll do it. I'll do it.
- 1:28:11And then they get there and he didn't buy the tickets.
- 1:28:13He bought the wrong tickets. Or he bought the.
- 1:28:15Wrong tickets. Another show.
- 1:28:16Another show. And the other show gave some
- 1:28:19clarity as to what you were saying in the beginning of the
- 1:28:23podcast. Is, is love the same thing as
- 1:28:26like, like, like dating to marriage?
- 1:28:28Is marriage the same thing as like, if you love someone, can
- 1:28:31you all like, you know. Yeah.
- 1:28:33And it had her think really hard about it.
- 1:28:35And the thing that hurts my soul so badly is cuz she had like an
- 1:28:40epiphany watching this wrong show that she didn't even want
- 1:28:43to watch in the 1st place. Yeah.
- 1:28:44Which is like, maybe this isn't for me, maybe we are not meant
- 1:28:48to be. And she was crying.
- 1:28:49She was having an emotional moment, but she wasn't gonna
- 1:28:52break up with him because she cared about him so much.
- 1:28:54And then this, this guy is like, I was literally about to say
- 1:28:58this motherfucker. That's fine.
- 1:29:01He's like, he's like, let's break up.
- 1:29:03And it's like. You don't.
- 1:29:06Even deserve to say those sentences.
- 1:29:09Break up with me. Like, Oh my gosh, he was.
- 1:29:13Broke dude, no prospects making this useless app that no one was
- 1:29:20gonna buy like throwing his life away, wasting her time, wasting
- 1:29:23his time. And you're telling me after 7
- 1:29:26years of her sticking that out and providing so much for you,
- 1:29:31so much emotional like stability and support and like you're
- 1:29:39telling me he didn't. He was like, I wanted some proof
- 1:29:42that you love me or something. Do you remember he said this at
- 1:29:44one point? It wasn't in that scene.
- 1:29:45It was another scene. He was like, I was like trying
- 1:29:47to find proof that you love me. And I was like, what further
- 1:29:51fucking proof do you need? And.
- 1:29:54I like and after seven years. I was like, how does he not
- 1:29:59realize that she wants to get married?
- 1:30:02And the thing I had the biggest problem with is after they broke
- 1:30:06up, like the how he realizes that like I do want to be with
- 1:30:11this person is he sees her with another guy.
- 1:30:14Are he like, like that is, no, that's not love.
- 1:30:17I'm sorry. That's you wanting something
- 1:30:19that you can't have any more, right?
- 1:30:21That is, it's jealousy. And I, I like it sucks 'cause I
- 1:30:25remember the first time I watched this, I was like, oh,
- 1:30:28I'm so sad. Like they they really loved
- 1:30:30each. Other I know they have such a
- 1:30:32long. History.
- 1:30:33That was the first time. Second time I'm like, are you
- 1:30:36kidding me? How did she put up with this
- 1:30:40man's like BS for seven years as well?
- 1:30:43Just like like she hinted at getting married so much and he
- 1:30:47just kept putting it on the back burner and like eventually it's
- 1:30:50like. Never occurred to him that they
- 1:30:53should get married. You never got the future.
- 1:30:56Years. Never thought about their
- 1:30:58future. Never thought about their future
- 1:31:01and the couch. The couch fiasco in episode 4.
- 1:31:04Bro so awful. Bro so he said he she's talking
- 1:31:09about getting this couch, this pink couch and it's expensive,
- 1:31:12but it's also too large for them to just get out right right now
- 1:31:16and stick it in their apartment. They live in a rooftop room.
- 1:31:20OK, it's tiny. And she kept saying like I want
- 1:31:24this couch, I want this couch. He didn't put two and two
- 1:31:26together that she wants the couch to go inside a newlywed
- 1:31:31home that is obviously larger and obviously get married.
- 1:31:36Like he didn't connect the dots on that.
- 1:31:39And it was so easy. It was like slow pitch, slow
- 1:31:42pitch. That's why she wants the couch.
- 1:31:45It's commitment. The couch represents commitment
- 1:31:48and. He wouldn't commit.
- 1:31:51He wouldn't, but he gets the couch without everything else,
- 1:31:54which is a proposal. Marriage, new house, right?
- 1:31:59Like this succession of things that she's expecting from him
- 1:32:03and he gets the couch. It's in the middle of their
- 1:32:05fucking tiny ass room and she gets pissed.
- 1:32:09She gets so mad in that moment. And then he says you should have
- 1:32:16said what you wanted clearly then I wouldn't have to put up
- 1:32:18with this crap. I hate him.
- 1:32:22No, I really I don't like. That's verbatim what he said to
- 1:32:26her and she was like crap, like she couldn't believe he said
- 1:32:29this to her. They got the floor model, which
- 1:32:33means it's already been sat on by like a million different
- 1:32:36butts and it's probably not that nice, maybe has some damage,
- 1:32:42whatever. And it doesn't fit in their tiny
- 1:32:44place. This is all the things that she
- 1:32:46says. And then he says, do I have to
- 1:32:49beg again? Are you going to cry again?
- 1:32:53Why is it that I'm always the one apologizing?
- 1:32:58Because you messed up you. Fucked up bro.
- 1:33:00You keep messing up. That's why you have to
- 1:33:02apologize. That's how relationships work.
- 1:33:05He. Doesn't even realize.
- 1:33:08Just doesn't get it. He doesn't get it.
- 1:33:10Like, why stick with a man who's so oblivious?
- 1:33:13And so I don't think he should have got the.
- 1:33:15Girl, I don't. And it upsets me that it took
- 1:33:19him to, like, see her with another guy, which, by the way,
- 1:33:22she didn't even know this guy. He just was like, I'll give you
- 1:33:25a ride. And then he's like, oh, she
- 1:33:26moved on so fast. And then he realizes, I want
- 1:33:29her. No.
- 1:33:31No, you don't get back. You had her for seven years and
- 1:33:34you made no moves to make this permanent.
- 1:33:36You didn't appreciate her like you didn't, and it's so upset.
- 1:33:41And so, yeah, I hope you're cleaning.
- 1:33:44For this man being the backbone. For this man fixing his tie, he
- 1:33:50resented her. He resented her for make for
- 1:33:54forcing the he thinks he forced the she forced the marriage on
- 1:33:57him. He proposes finally, but he's
- 1:34:00unhappy about it. And then he resents her for
- 1:34:02making him get a real job, a stable job, instead of him
- 1:34:10keeping going with his stupid ass app and trying to get that
- 1:34:14off the ground and. That's not how it should be.
- 1:34:17And I, I have to say, when they're 30 years old, yeah,
- 1:34:21there are. 30 Like where do you come that's a man that's a man
- 1:34:27it's. Upsetting.
- 1:34:28It's upsetting. I don't understand why this is.
- 1:34:31Anyway, so yeah, I was reeling over their whole relationship
- 1:34:35and I can't believe they got together at the end.
- 1:34:37I don't think they should have. I think it should have just been
- 1:34:39they broke up like their. Kid was cute on the bus but I
- 1:34:42think she would have been so much more happy with the
- 1:34:46investment. Insurance guy or not.
- 1:34:48Not in his best financial financial.
- 1:34:51Yeah, he was like an account guy.
- 1:34:54Dude, yeah, he he handled the finances of the thing and he
- 1:34:58liked hersh he was head over like he like he was like I would
- 1:35:02get married to you like the first.
- 1:35:05Like first he was like, I'm interested in marriage and
- 1:35:06that's why my last relationship didn't work out because I wanted
- 1:35:10to get married and she didn't basically.
- 1:35:12That's why she's. Also, she's also interested in
- 1:35:15marriage, but she was like, no, I need like, it's.
- 1:35:20Anyways, I did like her character, but I think she
- 1:35:23deserved better. Yeah.
- 1:35:24And I think it's also ridiculous that the guy and that girl who
- 1:35:29worked at the tech or the IT company was like, look, we're
- 1:35:33we're a match on this app. And he like just, it's so
- 1:35:39annoying because like he was having, he got out of the
- 1:35:42relationship and then he's seeing her possibly being in a
- 1:35:45relationship, but then he's having someone be like, we could
- 1:35:47be in a relationship. And he's like, oh, I think I
- 1:35:50actually want to be with the girl like.
- 1:35:54I hate it. I hate it.
- 1:35:55It's so. Bad.
- 1:35:56It was so bad we we should talk about the plot twist, though.
- 1:36:00It's a slight plot twist. It's the stupidest little,
- 1:36:03tiniest plot twist. But I was like, why is this so?
- 1:36:06Like OK with the guy from Business Proposal Glasses?
- 1:36:10God, yes. So let's not What was that?
- 1:36:15Why did they do that? This is.
- 1:36:17So strange they have cuming cue in this show as a as a
- 1:36:21supporting character. He's Poknam Poknam and he works
- 1:36:27at the coffee shop that the female lead gets a job at.
- 1:36:30He gets her the job because she has no experience doing that.
- 1:36:34She's only been a writer and he gets her the job because and
- 1:36:37he's flirting with her. He's extremely nice to her.
- 1:36:41And the plot twist is everyone thinks, well, not everyone but
- 1:36:45the male lead and the staff at dating not marriage that app got
- 1:36:53some complaints about his profile that said he was a
- 1:36:57stalker and they were like, Oh my God, he's a stalker and.
- 1:37:03He's not a good guy, not. A good guy.
- 1:37:06He's a wrench. Yeah, He's has this wrench in
- 1:37:09his bag. And they're like, he's just bad
- 1:37:11thing. He's gonna back.
- 1:37:12Your head in with this like wrench that he keeps in the back
- 1:37:15of his motorcycle and it's just not the case at all.
- 1:37:19OK. The plot twist is no, he's not a
- 1:37:22crazy stalker murderer. He is just a dude making bad
- 1:37:29financial decisions. He's a part timer.
- 1:37:32He's just a part timer. That's handsome.
- 1:37:34Insanely expensive motorcycle and he's not on any of these
- 1:37:37dating apps and hasn't been banned from anything.
- 1:37:40He's the real murderer. Was catfishing everybody with
- 1:37:44his photos with Kim Ming Ki's photos and that plot twist of
- 1:37:52he's not really as I would have preferred him just be a stalker.
- 1:37:55It was it was so random, like I feel like in most K dramas, you
- 1:37:59know, they have to throw in a little fun little twist, but it
- 1:38:01was so like, first of all, let's just when he likes her.
- 1:38:06But I have to say the hardest line so ridiculous, like when
- 1:38:11you know what I'm talking about when her husband or like fake
- 1:38:14husband or whatever is across the street and she's talking to
- 1:38:18the guy and he's like, I like you.
- 1:38:19And she's like, Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry.
- 1:38:21I have a husband. He's like, that doesn't mean you
- 1:38:24can't have a boyfriend. And it's like what the?
- 1:38:28That's right, I forgot that giving she says that to her.
- 1:38:32He's like, what? That doesn't mean you can't have
- 1:38:34a boyfriend just 'cause you got a.
- 1:38:36Sir, Sir, Sir. And the husband is right across
- 1:38:41the street. He can't hear that.
- 1:38:42Nobody sees that. Yeah.
- 1:38:45Oh, it's so ridiculous. And then and then, yeah, then
- 1:38:47they paint him in a light where they're like, he's actually
- 1:38:50stalking people. He's gonna hurt your wife like
- 1:38:53he's been hanging out with her 'cause he lives with the same
- 1:38:55job. You better take her to the bus
- 1:38:59stop and watch out for her. And then he uses the wrench to
- 1:39:02open beer like I'm. So stupid.
- 1:39:08So I, I thought it was funny. I, I actually thought this whole
- 1:39:11thing was funny. But yeah, if you look at it
- 1:39:13logically, you're like, what the hell is this plot twist that
- 1:39:17happens with Kiminki's side character?
- 1:39:19And I just wish they'd followed through and that he really was a
- 1:39:23stalker. It would have been interesting
- 1:39:25for sure, but I just thought it was so silly that they like
- 1:39:29really like wound it up. They started using suspenseful
- 1:39:32music. They started showing them
- 1:39:34hanging out at night. Something bad could happen.
- 1:39:36You never know. And then of course the guy
- 1:39:39literally like kicks or or a main guy kicks the motorcycle
- 1:39:43which. Can we just?
- 1:39:45Can we? Please circle back because
- 1:39:48literally the guy is like first of all, the the shop guy, the
- 1:39:55part timer has this expensive, expensive motorcycle and he's
- 1:39:59like this motorcycle is more than your like home like your
- 1:40:02mortgage payment like this is such an expensive motorcycle and
- 1:40:05he and our man is frugal. He's a frugal guy.
- 1:40:08Okay, so he's like, I'm not going to mess this up.
- 1:40:11And they show. Honestly, a ridiculous comedic
- 1:40:14scene. Where he's like, funny.
- 1:40:15Flips. Over the motorcycle.
- 1:40:17Over the motorcycle to try not to fall on it.
- 1:40:20He's falling, but he makes a freaking martial arts flip it.
- 1:40:24Happens twice, twice. It happens twice.
- 1:40:28So you're like, OK, this man, he does not want to owe this guy
- 1:40:32money for damaging the motorcycle, but then when his
- 1:40:35his girl could be in trouble, he's like, I'm going to kick
- 1:40:38this motorcycle. He takes the.
- 1:40:40Mirror off the motorcycle then kicks the motorcycle over and
- 1:40:44but I mean the scene is good and in that he makes a a closer
- 1:40:50connection with her. And it leads to the hand holding
- 1:40:53scene. That's what I'm saying, Liz.
- 1:40:57Like, I don't mind that. I just would have minded.
- 1:40:59I mind that they psyched out the audience.
- 1:41:02Yeah, me too, 'cause it was so random, like literally we were
- 1:41:06all like, OK, he's a bad guy, they're gonna get closer.
- 1:41:09I understand catfishing and I understand that the catfisher
- 1:41:12would use Kim Minky's photos because he's stunning, but I
- 1:41:18just think he should have been a stalker.
- 1:41:20What's wrong with having Kim Minky play a stalker for 5
- 1:41:23minutes? Stalkers can be hot, just
- 1:41:27saying. He can he.
- 1:41:28Can be the boyfriend with the husband though you.
- 1:41:31Know and then he acts so but the Ki Minke's character not Ki
- 1:41:36Minke the male lead his his character says hurry up, let's
- 1:41:41go to our home and holds out his hand and they walk hand in hand
- 1:41:46all the way back to the house like he does not let her go.
- 1:41:49And that's a great scene because there was the whole thing that
- 1:41:55they had had earlier about him using the word our, we, us, Udi.
- 1:42:02And she's getting off on it like she's getting drunk off of him,
- 1:42:06basically linking them up verbally and saying it's our
- 1:42:11home, our, this, our, that, us. And she's desperately looking
- 1:42:18for a home, a sense of belonging.
- 1:42:21And she's never been in a relationship before.
- 1:42:23So she's reading so much into it.
- 1:42:26And earlier in the show, he had, she had said, I think she named
- 1:42:32the cat. She named the cat Hour.
- 1:42:34She named the cat. Hour Ooty and got like the
- 1:42:37cutest, what is it collar for the cat that said like Ooty in
- 1:42:43in like a wooden like engraved. Yes, it was amazing.
- 1:42:48So she got this thing she named the cat.
- 1:42:50He did not like them naming the cat her naming the cat hour and
- 1:42:55he put up these walls. He like drew party lines.
- 1:42:58He was like, uh, uh, we're not doing that.
- 1:43:00I would I just want you to do your own thing.
- 1:43:03And he he soured it soured it completely.
- 1:43:08And so she was like, why don't you not say that anymore?
- 1:43:12Why don't you not say hour? Because I seem to like it and
- 1:43:16don't. So they drew these lines
- 1:43:19earlier. And then he comes in hot trying
- 1:43:21to save him from the stock or going like, let's go home to our
- 1:43:24home. Exactly.
- 1:43:26And hold her hand all the way home.
- 1:43:27Oh my God. And.
- 1:43:28Then they get into the house, OK?
- 1:43:30And he is like, I'm gonna shower first.
- 1:43:32She's like, OK. And then he starts walking into
- 1:43:35the bathroom and he looks at her.
- 1:43:37He's like, why are you following me into the bathroom?
- 1:43:39And she's like, 'cause you're still holding my hand.
- 1:43:42She's like, I'm not gripping me here, OK?
- 1:43:46He wouldn't let go and he didn't even realize it.
- 1:43:49Like he's literally just like, I'm going to go take a shower
- 1:43:52now and but like I was dying at like the the timing and like the
- 1:43:57way he said why? Because he's she's literally
- 1:44:01like, because like when he's holding her hand, they're
- 1:44:04walking. He just looks at her and goes
- 1:44:06why? And she's like, I don't know
- 1:44:11what you haven't let go. I don't know what to say.
- 1:44:13But like, they're so cute. They are so cute.
- 1:44:16Keeps the. Cat.
- 1:44:17She throws away the cat collar. I know he.
- 1:44:21Somehow, someway gets it out of the trash and keeps it.
- 1:44:25The end episode was everything. It was so good.
- 1:44:29He finally expresses his emotions and how he feels and
- 1:44:33she is like, this is all I've like, this is what I've wanted.
- 1:44:36Like 'cause she's, he's not expressive.
- 1:44:39I will say though, with the past lover coming into the picture,
- 1:44:44there's positives and negatives to that first, like positive,
- 1:44:48obviously she's going in a different step with her career
- 1:44:52and she's gonna you know, she has someone that can vouch and
- 1:44:56help her with her career and and do stuff with that.
- 1:44:59But also and like it pushes him to like if he really like cares
- 1:45:05about her and figuring that out. But I also thought it was kind
- 1:45:08of like not stupid, but it was it could have not been in in the
- 1:45:13show. They could have not added that,
- 1:45:15but they also needed to because we needed to see why he was so
- 1:45:18guarded and why he had all these specific reasons why he was like
- 1:45:23that to other people. Exactly, Exactly.
- 1:45:26I think I like the effect of the past girlfriend who was living
- 1:45:33with this is very progressive, by the way.
- 1:45:34Like all of this that he lived with his girlfriend in in
- 1:45:39college and they got pregnant and then she lost the baby and
- 1:45:43they broke up and the family never proved it was ugly, ugly,
- 1:45:46ugly. All of this is super
- 1:45:48progressive. Yeah, for K drama and for Korean
- 1:45:53society as well. So I think the show, I like the
- 1:46:00that aspect of it and I like how it changed him.
- 1:46:03Like the experience totally changed him and he thought he
- 1:46:07was cursed. Basically, yeah.
- 1:46:11He didn't want to love someone again because he didn't want to.
- 1:46:14It's so sad. So I like the effects of it, but
- 1:46:17I don't necessarily love that she came back in the picture,
- 1:46:20even though I'm like, I like that character.
- 1:46:22It was like a good female mentor kind of relationship with her
- 1:46:28and the female lead. But as far as like what it did
- 1:46:32to their relationship and how she kind of like backed off,
- 1:46:35they broke up around here. She was like, I want to annul
- 1:46:38the contract. Also I was like, oh, but I don't
- 1:46:41know if I like that. Yeah, no, exactly.
- 1:46:43But like, maybe that's something that they needed to do so then
- 1:46:46he could realize how much he missed her and wanted her next
- 1:46:49to him. Mm.
- 1:46:50Hmm. But that scene where he's like,
- 1:46:53I'm dreaming. I know you're not here.
- 1:46:55I know when I open my eyes, you're not gonna be here.
- 1:46:57And oh, shit. Kill me.
- 1:47:01Kill me. It's so good.
- 1:47:02It is. It's so good.
- 1:47:04It's very well written. Like I I truly think that like
- 1:47:07anyone that hasn't seen this drama needs to at least check it
- 1:47:10out once. Yeah, because it just it's it's
- 1:47:13it's good. It's really good.
- 1:47:16I'm going to hit some notes that I think we skipped over just
- 1:47:19because we're we're going all over the.
- 1:47:20Place in the show, but that's fine.
- 1:47:22No, but that's fine. So the oh, in episode 3, the
- 1:47:31head writer, this is what we talked about earlier, where the
- 1:47:33head writer that she was dealing with before who didn't care
- 1:47:37about her at all. She cozies up to her in episode
- 1:47:413 and there's this whole entrapment thing because she
- 1:47:46swears, oh, let's go have drinks.
- 1:47:47Just us too. But the showrunner and the young
- 1:47:53director are there and she immediately, the way that Jung
- 1:47:57Selman shuts down in that scene, it's so sad but so real.
- 1:48:04You know, she doesn't leave. She's there's not this outburst
- 1:48:07right away. She still goes in and she's
- 1:48:11feeling trapped. She was lied to.
- 1:48:14Yeah, and she was lied to. So they they all pressure her to
- 1:48:18make up with the director who attempted to sexually assault
- 1:48:22her and accept his apology. And she goes, what are you all
- 1:48:28trying to do? I'm the victim here.
- 1:48:31It was attempted sexual assault verbatim.
- 1:48:34That's what she says. And he the guy, the director
- 1:48:37jumps in and tries to cut her off and she snaps her head
- 1:48:41toward him and says shut up before I have you arrested.
- 1:48:44Yeah, yeah, she stands up. I will say though, it's pretty
- 1:48:48awful because in that they're like using victim is a bit too
- 1:48:52much like don't use that word. Yes, like trying to play down
- 1:48:56downplay her experience like her like this mentally affected her
- 1:49:01and they're like, OK, but you need to write more and you have
- 1:49:05to still work with him and you he's gonna apologize.
- 1:49:07It'll be all fine. No, that's not how the world.
- 1:49:09Works. Oh my God, she gives this
- 1:49:11wonderful analogy of it basically being hit on the head
- 1:49:16on the street with a rock and then telling her no no no you
- 1:49:20didn't get hit, you're fine. Like, keep walking instead of
- 1:49:25carrying her on their back to the hospital because they're
- 1:49:27saying we're doing the most, the best we can here.
- 1:49:29And she's like, the best would be you supporting me and taking
- 1:49:33me to the hospital if I was bleeding from my head.
- 1:49:37Like, I'm the victim. Like, she's basically putting it
- 1:49:40in perspective for them. And I think the showrunner says
- 1:49:44this, this is terrible. But he says if you whine about
- 1:49:46stuff like this, how are you going to make any dramas?
- 1:49:52Yeah. And she's like, I guess I'm not
- 1:49:54going. To Yeah.
- 1:49:56And that's, that's how that goes.
- 1:49:58But I in the end it was the best because, you know, then she does
- 1:50:01begin to write like for herself and create things that she's
- 1:50:05really proud of, where as before people were writing over her
- 1:50:09stuff. Yeah, at one point, she says
- 1:50:12marrying out of love is something only the rich can do.
- 1:50:17That's true. Just leaving that on the table.
- 1:50:20That that can be true. I mean, yeah.
- 1:50:23Yeah, it's. Crazy episode 5 and six.
- 1:50:25I think this is their wedding girl, the mom, the mom.
- 1:50:31This is one of the only times that I was bawling in the show
- 1:50:35was this whole thing with her mother, who is played by the
- 1:50:42wonderful Kim Sung, Kim Sung Yong.
- 1:50:47God, what hasn't she been in Kim Sung Yong?
- 1:50:51Let me see. It's got she's been in so many
- 1:50:53things. She's been in Crash course and
- 1:50:55romance the silence. See Backstreet Rookie Hospital
- 1:50:58playlist episode 7. She's one of the Ajimas in Reply
- 1:51:021988. Everything she's been in so many
- 1:51:06things crash landing on you. She's everywhere.
- 1:51:08If you see her, you'll be like, Oh my God, I love this Ajima.
- 1:51:10I love her as the mom and because this is my first life
- 1:51:14and I think back to this performance so often in episode
- 1:51:195, she's silently protesting the marriage and.
- 1:51:24She is. She when the families meet, she
- 1:51:27is very standoffish and she thinks that the in laws, their
- 1:51:32compliments are thinly veiled insults that her them saying,
- 1:51:37Oh, she's so calm and amiable, like they think she's like her,
- 1:51:41her. They're saying that you're easy
- 1:51:42to control, that you're, you can just, you're at their back and
- 1:51:47call this doesn't mean, Oh, you're so nice and and sweet.
- 1:51:50They're like, no, they can do whatever they want to you is
- 1:51:53what they're saying to you. They're looking down on you.
- 1:51:56And she goes, she didn't, I didn't send you to a prestigious
- 1:52:00school in soldier so that you can get married instead of
- 1:52:02getting a instead of getting a job, because this was the other
- 1:52:05option. Like now I've quit my job, quit
- 1:52:06my career, I have to get married.
- 1:52:09And she calls it all a waste. It's such a waste.
- 1:52:14And I was like, wow, this is a stay at home mom.
- 1:52:18This is a homemaker. This is a woman who has devoted
- 1:52:21her life to her family, to her husband, and she feels that
- 1:52:25doing what she did is a waste. She wants the best for her
- 1:52:30daughter and the book that she makes and the note that she.
- 1:52:34Writes I was crying. It's so beautiful, like she
- 1:52:40cause 'cause you know, she's been overshadowed like her whole
- 1:52:42life and everything that she says it doesn't matter because
- 1:52:46it didn't come from her husband. And she finally gets gets that
- 1:52:51moment to show her feelings and be like, it's so beautiful.
- 1:52:55It's so beautiful. I have some of the letter here.
- 1:52:57So the mom writes this letter and says to the husband like
- 1:53:03this is all to the male lead but the female lead reads it and she
- 1:53:07says it's important to be good born to good parents otherwise
- 1:53:10it's all useless no matter how smart you are.
- 1:53:12Say would it be all right if I asked you just two things?
- 1:53:16If Jiho ever wants to write again, could you let her do it?
- 1:53:20I'll come and help with whatever house chores you have.
- 1:53:22Please if she ever wants to write again in the future, don't
- 1:53:26let her give up on her dreams like I did.
- 1:53:29And my Geo, when she starts to cry, she can't stop easily.
- 1:53:32So please don't let her cry alone, even if you were the
- 1:53:35reason for her tears. Please stay by her side no
- 1:53:38matter what. That note right there that is so
- 1:53:43touching. It is so perfect and yeah she
- 1:53:49starts bawling like she cannot stop crying after this.
- 1:53:53After reading her mom's letter in episode 6.
- 1:53:56Say he has a sit down with the mom and he tells the mom that,
- 1:54:02you know, Jiho is strong, like even if she looks weak and shy,
- 1:54:04she's strong. And that her writing, quitting
- 1:54:09and even marrying him were all her choices, which brings in
- 1:54:13like that whole consent thing. Like nobody's forcing her to do
- 1:54:15this. And he promises that he'll never
- 1:54:18interfere with her choices and never be a hindrance to her.
- 1:54:24And it's so it's so great. He says like I'm sorry that I
- 1:54:27can't say the usual stuff. I will protect her.
- 1:54:30He'll I'll make her happy. And the mom responds with you
- 1:54:35are a couple, but you are not responsible for each other's
- 1:54:38happiness. In an era when making yourself
- 1:54:41happy is hard enough, not interfering with the others
- 1:54:44dreams is the best thing to do. I like that better than when you
- 1:54:49said you won't make her lift a finger, which is so call back to
- 1:54:52earlier in the show. And I.
- 1:54:54Just. It's beautiful, beautiful.
- 1:54:57Like it's, it's, they do communication so well and I
- 1:55:02just, I love it. Like all, like I said, like all
- 1:55:05the characters, like the mother is the only one like beside
- 1:55:10like, I mean in, in, you know, Jiho's family.
- 1:55:13But that that scene was so touching 'cause I think like.
- 1:55:17About her, yeah, in very respectful.
- 1:55:20Way so it's he's so respectful and they both respect each other
- 1:55:26and then that respect grows into love.
- 1:55:28And it's such a beautiful, mature story about that.
- 1:55:32Yeah. And then later on, I think he
- 1:55:34says that though we both agreed to the contract after the
- 1:55:37marriage, and it's likely that you will suffer a bigger loss
- 1:55:40than me. You're a woman and you're
- 1:55:42younger than me, so the social judgement against you could be
- 1:55:46harsher. Hence all links to me should be
- 1:55:49kept to a minimum and any event shared by both of us I thought
- 1:55:53would be right to avoid them as much as possible.
- 1:55:55So he is literally coming into this as well, even though he's
- 1:55:58basically already caught feelings by now.
- 1:56:00He's like, I'm trying to do right by you so that when this
- 1:56:03thing ends you can go about your life without any consequences.
- 1:56:09It's sad because he's working within the confines of the
- 1:56:12patriarchy and these double standards and the sexism that
- 1:56:15exists in their society, even though he doesn't subscribe to
- 1:56:18it. He's like, I just don't wanna
- 1:56:19ruin this for you. I don't wanna ruin your life.
- 1:56:22He still is thinking about her and thinking about everything
- 1:56:25that she will have to face with that.
- 1:56:27And I will say, and this is like spoilers, but we're in spoilers.
- 1:56:30But at the end and end of it, I love that they covered that like
- 1:56:35they don't, they don't go to each other's homes anymore.
- 1:56:38Like they're happy just being with each other And cause like
- 1:56:42the parents caused so much drama.
- 1:56:45And I love that they drew those lines with them.
- 1:56:48Yes, I think I think that was very it needed, it needed to
- 1:56:51happen. And I'm yeah, it was good.
- 1:56:54And this goes into just Korean society, I would say, like their
- 1:56:58family dynamics and how the daughter-in-law sort of a slave
- 1:57:03to her in laws when she gets married.
- 1:57:05And they'd go into the daughter-in-law syndrome and how
- 1:57:08she wants to look her best in front of her in laws and get
- 1:57:11them to like her. And so she'll do anything for
- 1:57:13them and they take advantage of that.
- 1:57:15The in laws literally take advantage of that.
- 1:57:17His parents and his mom especially is like, oh, she
- 1:57:22doesn't let her son lift a finger, wash dishes, cut up an
- 1:57:28apple or anything. She's like, oh, no, no, no.
- 1:57:31This is like, why would you do that?
- 1:57:32You don't know anything about that.
- 1:57:35You don't know anything about homemaking.
- 1:57:36Like leave it to the experts meeting the women.
- 1:57:39And it's like she's part of the problem.
- 1:57:45And they the night that she does the funeral rites, the ancestral
- 1:57:49rites where she's cooking like she was a slave, that's unpaid
- 1:57:54labor. Yeah.
- 1:57:56And, and it's, I mean, they really show like like, like
- 1:57:59it's, it's throughout the show, the patriarchy and the sexism
- 1:58:02and everything. And it's, it's a clear line of
- 1:58:06like what what you can see and what happens.
- 1:58:09And yeah, I love that they they kind of cut the line off of
- 1:58:13that. They're like, yeah, we're not
- 1:58:14gonna do that anymore. No, that's not something that's.
- 1:58:16In their that's in their real marriage contract, which is in
- 1:58:19their contract renegotiate every year.
- 1:58:21This is the end of the show. When they are finally together,
- 1:58:24they basically set these ground rules where it's like you don't
- 1:58:27have to go to my house and do all that shit and I don't have
- 1:58:29to go to your house and do all that, any of that shit either.
- 1:58:32Like we are a unit together. We are not going to.
- 1:58:36We're going to cut out all of this unnecessary bullshit that
- 1:58:39is really degrading the relationship and causing
- 1:58:42resentment, right? Exactly.
- 1:58:45No, exactly. And I think, I think that was
- 1:58:48really, it was a good move on their part.
- 1:58:51Which is why I say it's progressive because that's not
- 1:58:54the case in most Korean marriages, I'm sure.
- 1:58:58And Speaking of marriage, I just want to touch on the best
- 1:59:00friend, Horan once again because I have this moment where this is
- 1:59:05an episode nine, I think halfway through the show where the
- 1:59:09female lead is musing about her friend.
- 1:59:11She's talking about like how she used to wear colorful things
- 1:59:14when she was younger. She was so outgoing.
- 1:59:16She was very extroverted and she was all about showing off her
- 1:59:19uniqueness. And they have, she has this
- 1:59:24voice over. When did we start being
- 1:59:26embarrassed to wear colours different than other people?
- 1:59:30And how she asked her friend, like, why do you want to get
- 1:59:33married? And they're standing in front of
- 1:59:37a window shop where these different colour coats are on
- 1:59:41display. And she says this whole thing
- 1:59:43about the red coat versus the black coat, that the red people
- 1:59:48that wear red coat, basically people that stand out are
- 1:59:51ostracized from society. They're not incorporated into
- 1:59:56society, even if they live a very fulfilling, wonderful life.
- 2:00:00If you're not married, if you're not conforming, if you're not
- 2:00:03having children, you're going to be left out.
- 2:00:06You're going to be left behind. And it was so sad to see how she
- 2:00:11dulled her colors just to follow.
- 2:00:18The crowd, you know. Yeah.
- 2:00:20And and I think in that moment, you know, she realized, is this
- 2:00:23really what I want to do or am I just following everyone else,
- 2:00:27which I want to touch on that color topic because did you
- 2:00:31notice after they had that conversation that our main girls
- 2:00:35wearing colorful clothing, like she was wearing like a pink coat
- 2:00:40and then she's doing all kinds of other stuff.
- 2:00:42And I think that's it shows a lot of growth.
- 2:00:45And then like with that conversation, she's like, you're
- 2:00:47right, I want to do my own thing.
- 2:00:49And then she starts wearing color again, which I think is
- 2:00:52really beautiful. Yeah, the quote that I have from
- 2:00:55the BFF hold on, is she wants to get married, so I so I don't
- 2:00:59stand out. I'll be the same as other
- 2:01:01people. To me, marriage means that I'm
- 2:01:04as good as everyone else, that I have worth as a woman.
- 2:01:07And I was like problem because she's putting all of her.
- 2:01:12Words. In the marriage, in a, in a man.
- 2:01:15And I'm like, what is it like? It's such a crazy brainwashing
- 2:01:21that has happened in this very patriarchal society where you're
- 2:01:25useless. You have no value unless you're
- 2:01:28married and with children. Yeah, and they they kind of like
- 2:01:31drum it in your head too, like from a young age.
- 2:01:34So then it it's kind of all in still, which is crazy.
- 2:01:38But like you have that friend, right?
- 2:01:40That's like, I I need to have a a man and I need to be married
- 2:01:44in order to feel like I belong and feel like I have a purpose.
- 2:01:48But then we have her friend over here that is like, I guess I'll
- 2:01:52do this contract relationship with this guy and I'm gonna
- 2:01:55start my own company and I'm gonna I love that.
- 2:01:59Like a main part of it is like, she doesn't like, you know,
- 2:02:02wearing bras at work. So she makes a company for like,
- 2:02:04comfortable bras. Yeah.
- 2:02:06Like, it's it's so cool to see her, her reach out.
- 2:02:12Exactly. But then it, it almost feels
- 2:02:14like with the other character, the the friend that we were
- 2:02:19talking about, like it almost feels like her It's, it's, it's
- 2:02:25unfulfilled, right? Because she goes back to the
- 2:02:27guy. She does the thing that she's
- 2:02:29literally talking about, like how she doesn't want to do that.
- 2:02:34Like that's not something. And it kind of hurts my feelings
- 2:02:37because like, why would they touch on that to show that she
- 2:02:41she's, you know, making these observations that it's something
- 2:02:44that she might not want to do and she misses wearing colorful
- 2:02:47clothing, But then to go and do the thing that she she was just
- 2:02:51talking about, I know she might not want to do.
- 2:02:53It's silly. I'm so sadly qualm.
- 2:02:57It's the only qualm I had. But other than that, a beautiful
- 2:03:00a beautiful. Show I know I love the kimchi
- 2:03:03making and him making you see and she shows up later in the
- 2:03:08day. His face lights up when she
- 2:03:11finally shows. Well, that that kiss scene.
- 2:03:16So this is what I mean by like people just haven't watched
- 2:03:19enough K drama if they think that some of the kiss scenes
- 2:03:22that are happening now are great kiss scenes 'cause this kiss
- 2:03:25scene by the beach. Looks like a top 10.
- 2:03:28Girl top ten. I love that.
- 2:03:32I love that he got because they kiss in the first episode,
- 2:03:37right? So he starts harkening back to
- 2:03:39that and he says, you can't even call that a kiss at the bus
- 2:03:43stop. Like it's really a Peck.
- 2:03:44And 1st, like I said before, that was not a bad kiss by any
- 2:03:47stretch. It was good.
- 2:03:50So she takes offense. She knows she's inexperienced.
- 2:03:52So she takes offense. And she stands up, offended and
- 2:03:56concedes like, OK, yeah, like it wasn't a good kiss or whatever,
- 2:03:59I did it wrong. And he goes, that's not how you
- 2:04:02do a kiss. A kiss is done like this.
- 2:04:04And he kisses her hand placement on the neck.
- 2:04:12And then she like grabs him and then they're like embracing for,
- 2:04:15I think the reason why it's just like, so like you're like, what?
- 2:04:19It's 'cause her phone, her phone's ringing and he's just
- 2:04:22like, they're kissing and he's like, oh, your phone, like your
- 2:04:25phone. And she's just like in a trance.
- 2:04:28Like she's been wanting this. He's been wanting this.
- 2:04:30Who call, Who's calling? The mother, of course, but of.
- 2:04:33Course, her mom. It was, it was a really good
- 2:04:36scene 'cause like you said, like consent is such a huge thing and
- 2:04:39they, they cover it so much where he's just like, can I do
- 2:04:42this? Can I do this?
- 2:04:43And, and, ah, that scene was so good 'cause she thinks he's
- 2:04:48making fun of her and he's like, let me, let me show you.
- 2:04:51Yeah. But then I mean, he pulls back
- 2:04:53after the initial kiss and he says, now do you understand
- 2:04:56better? If not, do you need to know
- 2:04:59more? Basically as like he's like, do
- 2:05:01we keep doing this set up? I'm already screaming and like
- 2:05:04throwing up in the corner and she goes more I want to know
- 2:05:08more. And they just start making out
- 2:05:10at the beach. OK.
- 2:05:11Like it's just a full on make out session.
- 2:05:14I'm screaming. I mean, you need to you need to
- 2:05:17mop me up because it's it's that good.
- 2:05:21I love that kissing. That's a good one.
- 2:05:23I forgot about it, only forgot until it popped back up and I'm
- 2:05:27like, I remember this when I first watched it 'cause I, I
- 2:05:31remember like I also binged this the first time I watched it and
- 2:05:35it was like four or five in the morning 'cause I couldn't stop
- 2:05:38watching it after like that kiss scene.
- 2:05:40I was like I need to know what happens.
- 2:05:41No, there's no Once you hit that kiss scene, you're kind of like,
- 2:05:44what? We have to keep going.
- 2:05:46Cannot stop, cannot stop. It was like 4:00 in the morning
- 2:05:49and I was like. What?
- 2:05:50Is this like the last episode was so no good because it just
- 2:05:54showed so many and then and oh and I was like, I was like a
- 2:05:57mess but it was like a good mess 'cause I was like, Dang, that
- 2:06:01was. I am so sad that the show has
- 2:06:03ended because all of these characters are just so relatable
- 2:06:07and they just you just get to know them very well and.
- 2:06:12I love it. I love this show and I miss I do
- 2:06:15I miss them? They're they pop off the page
- 2:06:18and yeah, I, I have like, no other things to say really.
- 2:06:23Like, it's just so good. I'm so glad that we went on this
- 2:06:25journey together and we talked about the show at length because
- 2:06:29I really feel like people need to watch it.
- 2:06:31It's so underrated and it's so easy to find.
- 2:06:34I think it's on Vicki and Netflix at the moment.
- 2:06:36It is. So just pick your poison.
- 2:06:38Yeah, it's absolutely worth your time, even if there's, like, a
- 2:06:42little these are nitpicky things about, like, Kim and Q's
- 2:06:45character and I think even the best friend.
- 2:06:49Hold on getting with that freaking dude.
- 2:06:52Talk about it. Alarm clock app.
- 2:06:54Dude, People make bad decisions, OK?
- 2:06:57Like, people can make bad decisions in real life.
- 2:06:59And then the character, I feel like should have tried to find
- 2:07:03her own identity, but that was her.
- 2:07:05That was her goal all along. Like, each girl got what she
- 2:07:09wanted, you know what I'm saying?
- 2:07:10Yeah, Like she got what she wanted.
- 2:07:13The the other besties, Tsuji, she always wanted to be a boss,
- 2:07:17her own boss. She did that.
- 2:07:19She made her own company based on her own experiences and not
- 2:07:24liking wearing a bra and stuff. And then our female lead also
- 2:07:30got what she wanted. Her goal was to like fall in
- 2:07:33love at least once, like have this all-encompassing love.
- 2:07:36It wasn't even to be a great writer.
- 2:07:39Yeah. And she went on to do that.
- 2:07:41Yeah. She went on to do that, though.
- 2:07:43It's it's a nice little happy ending.
- 2:07:45And then it's really cute, like when they're on the couch and
- 2:07:48he, like, lays down on her lap and she's just, like playing
- 2:07:50with this hair. Like, it makes you feel like
- 2:07:52their relationship is real. Like I know they're acting OK,
- 2:07:55but they just, they just seem so real.
- 2:07:57The gestures and stuff and the way they interact is it feels.
- 2:08:02Real. It's like raw.
- 2:08:04Yeah. You're like watching them
- 2:08:05interact. You're like they they care about
- 2:08:07each other. This is a real story, yes.
- 2:08:10But and the cat's so good, that's good bonus.
- 2:08:13Yeah, the cat is so cute. The cat is the best cat I've
- 2:08:16ever seen. When the cat's at the vet's
- 2:08:18office, I was like, this is a wonderful cat because I have
- 2:08:21seen so many horror stories about cats in the vet office.
- 2:08:25And this cat was like, Oh yeah, I'm good.
- 2:08:28I get whatever can you shot. I don't care.
- 2:08:30It's so good. I want to touch on something
- 2:08:33real, real, real, real quick about the vet's office.
- 2:08:35Because while they're in the vet's office, the vet is talking
- 2:08:37about the first time he brought in the cat 'cause it was from
- 2:08:40the streets. And like he, he was like
- 2:08:43defending this cat and like, you need to do something and you
- 2:08:46need to. And then later, like, later,
- 2:08:49there's a scene where our main girl is in the car with her
- 2:08:53brother, and he's bringing up something that she did in the
- 2:08:56past where there was like, I don't know if it was like a
- 2:08:59stray dog or a stray. Yeah.
- 2:09:01And. And and the neighbor wanted to
- 2:09:03take the dog and eat it like dog meat.
- 2:09:05Yeah. And she, she's like, no, you're
- 2:09:07not gonna do this. I'm not.
- 2:09:09And then she defended and you can see and his, like, little
- 2:09:11mind doing a little worrying thing.
- 2:09:13And he's like, we have, we are so alike.
- 2:09:15Yes, we have the same things. And you can see he's slowly
- 2:09:18starting to care about her more the more he gets to know her.
- 2:09:22And I love it. I love it.
- 2:09:24It's so good. I love it so much.
- 2:09:26It's so deep. OK, so thank you.
- 2:09:29So I'm gonna cut us off because we could be here for another
- 2:09:31three hours, I swear. But I know.
- 2:09:33But thank you so much for coming on the show, Becky, and for
- 2:09:37being so passionate about because this is my first life.
- 2:09:40I hope everyone can know that you can contact either of us at
- 2:09:43any point to talk about this show.
- 2:09:45Where can we? Yeah, Where can we find you
- 2:09:47online, Becky? OK so my Tiktok is don't sue
- 2:09:51Rebecca and then I do have an Instagram where I just post
- 2:09:55edits. I don't use it very much but
- 2:09:57it's the it's the same. Is it the same name or is it a
- 2:10:01different name? Let me check it.
- 2:10:04But you're also a cosplayer, so I know that one is more focused.
- 2:10:07On cosplay, OK, yes, no, the other one it is don't see
- 2:10:11Rebecca. It's just don't see Rebecca on
- 2:10:12both. So which is funny.
- 2:10:15I don't know if I've told you, I've literally had people
- 2:10:17comment they're like, I am going to sue you because I watched the
- 2:10:21show and it made me sad or something.
- 2:10:23Or like it's and it's funny because it's like, oh.
- 2:10:27I'm sorry, going to press charges because like, wow.
- 2:10:32Someone, someone stitched one of my videos and they were like,
- 2:10:35you know why they call her Don't Sue Rebecca?
- 2:10:38And I was like, Oh my, it's relaxing.
- 2:10:41It's just, it's just my middle name.
- 2:10:43It's just my middle name. It's literally don't sue me.
- 2:10:48It's sue, right? Literally nothing to do with
- 2:10:53suing someone. All right, This was so much fun.
- 2:10:57I hope you come back, Becky, and you have to.
- 2:11:00Watch the noodle shop. Well, we're Boy, I have to
- 2:11:04watch. It so funny, it's so old.
- 2:11:07All right, Anyway, okay, we're gonna get it.
- 2:11:09It's okay. That's been our show.
- 2:11:11I'm Jessica and this has been the Tabaki Rambles podcast.
- 2:11:22Loving you.
