- 0:04Speaker 1: The Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trek Podcast. Sandwiches and puppies.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And space. Live from studios in Idaho and Michigan, this
- 0:27Speaker 1: is Trek cast the galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast
- 0:33Speaker 1: today on the show. We're going to be talking about
- 0:35Speaker 1: the center seat to documentary. It was it was fun. Oh, my.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Plus, we've got.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Oh, my. Plus, we've got Star Trek news and your
- 0:46Speaker 1: fit listener feedback. I am Scott Bouchers. And now he
- 0:50Speaker 1: refused to do the show unless we gave him a
- 0:53Speaker 1: raise and a producer credit. It's Daniel Reyes.
- 0:57Speaker 3: That's right. And I will be collecting that producer credit.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:01Speaker 1: How you doing, man? You are Trek cast own William Shatner.
- 1:04Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yes. Doing good. Doing good. Um, just, uh, just a
- 1:13Speaker 1: little producers. No, uh, Dan is not here today. Uh,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Dan's dad, uh, passed away about a week and a
- 1:20Speaker 1: half ago. And so, uh, you know, he's not going
- 1:23Speaker 1: to be on the show for a minute. Um, but, uh,
- 1:27Speaker 1: we just wanted to let them know that we're all
- 1:28Speaker 1: thinking about them and from everybody here at Trek cast
- 1:31Speaker 1: and all the listeners. So, um, if you're, if you're
- 1:34Speaker 1: into it, you know, send them, send them good vibes,
- 1:36Speaker 1: prayers and thoughts and for him and his family. So,
- 1:40Speaker 1: but he will be back and, and we look forward
- 1:42Speaker 1: to it. So, yeah, yeah.
- 1:43Speaker 3: He's just, he's taken some time and you know, everyone understands.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So absolutely, absolutely. But, uh, you know, he, he, uh,
- 1:51Speaker 1: He wishes us well, gives us the blessing to keep
- 1:53Speaker 1: the show going, so that's what we're going to do.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:57Speaker 2: For sure.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So, yeah. So, in that spirit, let's get going.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Yeah. So, how's it been for you, man? It's been
- 2:07Speaker 3: like two weeks since we've done a show.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yep, two weeks since we've done the show. There's been
- 2:11Speaker 1: a little bit of, I'm looking forward to hearing some
- 2:13Speaker 1: Star Trek news.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I've got some for sure.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I've heard a couple of rumors and things going on.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Oh, God, there's so many weird little rumors.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Skydance.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Should we?
- 2:24Speaker 3: I mean, we can just get into it if you
- 2:26Speaker 3: want to.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah, we might as well. We might as well.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Star Trek news. All right.
- 2:32Speaker 3: So our first news story comes to us from CBR.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And like you said, we're learning more about post merger.
- 2:40Speaker 3: What's going on now with Star Trek? And what do
- 2:42Speaker 3: we you know, what do we what can we expect?
- 2:44Speaker 3: So let me pull this up here. This is from CBR.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Like I said. And apparently Paramount Star Trek resets begins
- 2:53Speaker 3: as HBO takes over control. So this is a little
- 2:57Speaker 3: bit misleading, just so you know. The way this is
- 3:01Speaker 3: worded and the way this sounds.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Keep going. I got to reset my connection.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Okay. It sounds like we have a new head of
- 3:10Speaker 3: Star Trek. We do not. What we have is a
- 3:13Speaker 3: new head of Paramount Plus. His name is Casey Boyles.
- 3:19Speaker 3: He's a top-level executive at HBO and HBO Max, has
- 3:23Speaker 3: been there for years. And so now post-merger, it will
- 3:27Speaker 3: be Casey Boyle's taking over all content for HBO or
- 3:33Speaker 3: for Paramount Plus and Paramount and all that. So does
- 3:37Speaker 3: Star Trek have a new head? Yeah, kind of. They
- 3:39Speaker 3: got a new boss at the top. But as to
- 3:42Speaker 3: who is directly ahead of Star Trek and who is
- 3:46Speaker 3: running it, that's a completely different person. So we don't
- 3:50Speaker 3: know who that is. Jacob's here. Call it Max Plus. Yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 3: Max Plus. It would be a great name or Mount Plus,
- 3:59Speaker 3: Mount Max, whatever you want to call it. You know,
- 4:02Speaker 3: it's going to have a different name. But yeah, so
- 4:05Speaker 3: Casey Boyles has been there for a long time at HBO,
- 4:09Speaker 3: helped overrun or ran Game of Thrones. And so he's
- 4:15Speaker 3: considered a good top level executive to run HBO. and
- 4:20Speaker 3: is known for doing well with franchises and properties. So
- 4:25Speaker 3: the idea is he should do pretty good. So we'll see. Again,
- 4:30Speaker 3: it doesn't mean that Casey Boyles is in charge of
- 4:32Speaker 3: Star Trek. He's just in charge of Paramount as a whole,
- 4:38Speaker 3: Paramount Plus as a whole. So Star Trek falls under
- 4:41Speaker 3: that umbrella.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Changing management always means good things, right? Well, yeah. You're
- 4:46Speaker 1: constantly switching.
- 4:48Speaker 3: What's the line from Pink Floyd? Meet the new boss,
- 4:51Speaker 3: same as the old boss?
- 4:52Speaker 5: Right.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. I guess.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I guess. We'll see. It really doesn't mean anything right
- 5:00Speaker 3: now until a few years from now when we see
- 5:04Speaker 3: new content.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Our next news story comes to us from SlashFilm.com, and
- 5:09Speaker 3: I don't know if you've seen the rounds, but Terry
- 5:12Speaker 3: Metallus is out there promoting Vision Quest, and so he
- 5:15Speaker 3: stopped by Riker and Data's podcast and talked a little
- 5:21Speaker 3: bit about what could have been Star Trek Legacy. And
- 5:25Speaker 3: so we're learning a few notes. Apparently he never thought
- 5:29Speaker 3: it would actually happen. And but he did. He was
- 5:34Speaker 3: hoping for it. Another thing that he dropped that was
- 5:37Speaker 3: kind of interesting is Patrick Stewart Picard would have been
- 5:42Speaker 3: on Legacy, not like as a main character, but But
- 5:46Speaker 3: he would have been like the person giving Seven of
- 5:49Speaker 3: Nine her missions.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 5:52Speaker 3: So he would be Charlie to Charlie.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I was just going to say that. Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 3: So. Okay. That's kind of cool that he would have
- 6:02Speaker 3: been there, you know?
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah. It all would have been cool. Yeah. It would
- 6:07Speaker 1: have been great.
- 6:08Speaker 3: And apparently Terry Metallus was also saying that ultimately his
- 6:12Speaker 3: goal was he had a storyline idea. for Alexander, Worf's son,
- 6:17Speaker 3: and a couple other characters too, like side characters like
- 6:20Speaker 3: that to bring them on into a new legacy. That's
- 6:23Speaker 3: kind of neat. The next generation.
- 6:26Speaker 1: We would have eaten it all up.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Gabe says good morning.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Good morning, Gabe. Oh, good morning, Gabe.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so... Yeah, legacy just... At this point, I don't
- 6:36Speaker 3: ever see it happening because if they're going to completely
- 6:39Speaker 3: revamp Star Trek, they're not going to do legacy. It'll
- 6:42Speaker 3: be fun novels and comic books later.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'll probably eat those up too. I'm not
- 6:47Speaker 1: big on the comics. It's hard for me to follow
- 6:50Speaker 1: comics because I don't know where to dive in at.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Sometimes I have that problem with the novelizations because I've
- 6:58Speaker 1: talked about that on the show too. I'm like, oh,
- 7:00Speaker 1: a brand new Star Trek Voyager.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Story.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to dive in. Janeway's talking about, yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 1: this thing is important. It has to do with the
- 7:12Speaker 1: whatever mission that we went on a month ago. Like, wait, wait, what?
- 7:17Speaker 1: And they keep talking about this mission and it's vitally
- 7:19Speaker 1: important to the story. And I'm like, this is from
- 7:22Speaker 1: a novel from before this. So I go back to that.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And the problem is the, the very first novel from
- 7:29Speaker 1: this story, it branches out into several different storylines. Right.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Chase died and stargazer. And it's like, I need to
- 7:36Speaker 1: read 14 novels a day in order to catch up. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So it's difficult sometimes.
- 7:43Speaker 3: It's too much.
- 7:45Speaker 1: That's why I miss those standalone novels by, like, Peter David.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 1: That's why I miss Peter David. He would make novels
- 7:55Speaker 1: that were just standalone episodes that were on their own
- 8:00Speaker 1: and great stories self-contained into one book.
- 8:05Speaker 3: You know what would be fun to do sometime? They
- 8:08Speaker 3: made some Star Trek, like, basically choose your own adventure book.
- 8:12Speaker 3: It would be fun, like, if we got some of
- 8:14Speaker 3: those and read them on the show and let, like,
- 8:17Speaker 3: the chat room decide where we go in the story.
- 8:21Speaker 1: That'd be fantastic. Yeah. That'd be fantastic.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Chat, would you guys like that if we did that?
- 8:27Speaker 3: If we got some of the Star Trek choose your
- 8:29Speaker 3: own adventures and let you guys decide where we go?
- 8:32Speaker 1: I think that would be fun.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I think it'd be a lot of fun, but yeah.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Speaking of books, can I plug something? I'll wait until
- 8:38Speaker 1: you're done with the news.
- 8:40Speaker 3: No, I got one more story, but go ahead.
- 8:43Speaker 1: A couple of friends of mine, actually, including my buddy Gabe,
- 8:46Speaker 1: who's on the chat, have been recommending this book series
- 8:51Speaker 1: to me. You know how friends recommend things, and you're like, yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'll check that out sometime. Then 25 years later, you're like, yeah,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'll check that out sometime. He finally took my phone
- 8:59Speaker 1: and put it gifted it to me in my Audible account. Okay.
- 9:08Speaker 1: So I basically had no excuse not to listen to it.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It's the We Are Legion. Oh, okay. The audiobook of
- 9:15Speaker 1: We Are Legion. It's the Bobaverse. And it's basically about
- 9:20Speaker 1: a guy who's kind of a Star Trek fan. And
- 9:23Speaker 1: he's kind of an engineer. You know, this takes place
- 9:26Speaker 1: in like 2017 when the books came out. And basically
- 9:31Speaker 1: he pays a company to cryo-freeze his head so that someday...
- 9:36Speaker 1: It can be reanimated when the medical technology is there.
- 9:39Speaker 1: We've seen this on Star Trek kind of before, you know.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And it basically tells the story about after he wakes up.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And there's a ton of Star Trek references. Any sci-fi
- 9:49Speaker 1: fan would love it. Any Star Trek fan would really,
- 9:52Speaker 1: really love it. And it's, I'm just, I'm almost done
- 9:55Speaker 1: with book one of the, apparently it's a series called
- 9:58Speaker 1: The Bobverse. And it's, it's, it's got everything. It's got the, it's,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know, I, I'm not, I'm not huge into audio
- 10:07Speaker 1: books or novels or anything like that, but this really, really,
- 10:10Speaker 1: and I've got ADHD. So my attention span is, is
- 10:14Speaker 1: that of a gnat. So, but this really drew me in.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And it's really fascinating. So if anybody's into audiobooks or
- 10:20Speaker 1: books or anything like that, check out We Are Legion,
- 10:23Speaker 1: the Bobverse. It's really, really cool.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I'll have to check that out.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Thanks for the recommendation, Gabe. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:31Speaker 3: All right, so our last news story comes to us
- 10:32Speaker 3: from Magic the Gathering because it's right around the corner
- 10:37Speaker 3: and the new Star Trek set is about to be released. Actually,
- 10:42Speaker 3: pre-release is in like two weeks, the 7th. is when
- 10:47Speaker 3: I'm going to an event. But yeah, so we're getting
- 10:51Speaker 3: a bunch of new Star Trek mechanics in Magic the Gathering.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Mechanics is basically new ways to play Magic, new things
- 11:00Speaker 3: you can do in the game. And probably my favorite
- 11:03Speaker 3: one is called Beam Me Up.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:07Speaker 3: And what this means is... So when you discard a card,
- 11:11Speaker 3: it's called your graveyard. All those cards are in your graveyard.
- 11:14Speaker 3: So you can now... pay mana, it's like the currency
- 11:18Speaker 3: in Magic, and you can pay mana to beam me
- 11:22Speaker 3: up and bring it out of your graveyard and onto
- 11:24Speaker 3: the field or interior. So they're bringing that, that's a
- 11:29Speaker 3: new mechanic. They've used it before, they call it other stuff,
- 11:34Speaker 3: but they're calling it beam me up, so that's pretty fun.
- 11:38Speaker 3: The other one that I thought was kind of interesting
- 11:40Speaker 3: is they're calling, they're making a new mechanic, completely new,
- 11:43Speaker 3: called Dilemmas, and basically there's cards in Magic the Gathering
- 11:46Speaker 3: that'll say you can either do this or this, right?
- 11:49Speaker 3: It'll give you two options, right? And you pick which
- 11:53Speaker 3: option you're going to do in the game. Well, now
- 11:56Speaker 3: in Star Trek, they're going to say if you face
- 11:59Speaker 3: a dilemma, meaning a choice between, you know, on those cards,
- 12:05Speaker 3: you get an advantage. It'll give you some sort of
- 12:07Speaker 3: advantage in the Star Trek cards.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Okay, okay.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Because these cards will play with all the other Magic
- 12:14Speaker 3: the Gathering cards.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Right. Like, you know, when you mentioned, like, I haven't
- 12:17Speaker 1: played Magic in about eight or nine years. Yeah. And
- 12:21Speaker 1: I've only played it once or twice. But I remember
- 12:25Speaker 1: some of the concepts you're talking about, like Graveyard and
- 12:27Speaker 1: things like that. I wouldn't mind. I've got some friends
- 12:30Speaker 1: that play Magic.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Gabe on the chat, he plays Magic. In fact, he's
- 12:34Speaker 1: one of the ones that I played with before. My
- 12:36Speaker 1: buddy Steve plays Magic. Oh, nice. So one of these days,
- 12:40Speaker 1: if I end up getting a a magic set we'll
- 12:43Speaker 1: have to, I'll, we'll have to play and I'll have
- 12:45Speaker 1: to report back.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Yeah. So basically, I don't know how much you remember
- 12:49Speaker 3: about magic, but it's, there's when the cards are released,
- 12:53Speaker 3: but the week before they have what they call pre-release.
- 12:55Speaker 3: So not the full line of that card is really
- 12:59Speaker 3: like you can buy, you can only buy like packs and,
- 13:03Speaker 3: and what they call pre-release kits, which is like a,
- 13:06Speaker 3: just a bundling of packs. So on the, on November 7th,
- 13:11Speaker 3: At my local shop, they're going to do a pre-release,
- 13:14Speaker 3: meaning a bunch of people get a bunch of new packs,
- 13:17Speaker 3: and you all play against each other. So you're playing
- 13:20Speaker 3: sight unseen cards. You got to quickly put together a deck,
- 13:25Speaker 3: and you're just playing to try out the new cards, right?
- 13:28Speaker 3: It's not serious. You're just having fun. And yeah, so
- 13:33Speaker 3: my buddy and I already signed up for it.
- 13:35Speaker 1: As opposed to the other Magic games? Like the serious
- 13:38Speaker 1: Magic games?
- 13:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. There are serious ones. God, there are people
- 13:42Speaker 3: who take it way too seriously. But yes, it's just
- 13:46Speaker 3: a card game, people. Just have fun with it. But yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 3: so my buddy and I, we're going to go. We're
- 13:50Speaker 3: going to go to this pre-release. And maybe I'll shoot
- 13:54Speaker 3: a video if I remember.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that'd be awesome. I'm loving that card that we
- 14:00Speaker 1: can see on the screen for those of you who
- 14:02Speaker 1: are just listening to podcasts. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. The
- 14:05Speaker 1: beam me up card. It says open communications. And the
- 14:08Speaker 1: picture on it is Riker. And he's holding... All you
- 14:12Speaker 1: see is the hand of the... What we're supposing is
- 14:16Speaker 1: a female. And the look on his face is.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Oh, he's about to open his communications.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to Kirk you tonight.
- 14:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I think there's other cards on here. There's like a
- 14:27Speaker 3: seven of nine. See, like, whenever you face up the dilemma,
- 14:30Speaker 3: draw a card. So if you got a card that
- 14:33Speaker 3: gives you options... You also get to draw a card
- 14:35Speaker 3: on top of that. Okay.
- 14:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Command decisions. Right here. Choose one. Destroy a creature with
- 14:42Speaker 3: a power of four or greater, or draw a card.
- 14:44Speaker 3: So you could use that in conjunction with your 709 card,
- 14:48Speaker 3: and now you're drawing more cards.
- 14:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 1: It's a pretty straightforward game. Even for somebody as dim-witted
- 14:54Speaker 1: as myself, I was able to catch on pretty quickly. Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 1: The instructions are right there on the card, what you
- 14:59Speaker 1: can and can't do, and there's symbols to let you
- 15:01Speaker 1: know what it is and stuff like that.
- 15:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Oh, Gabe says check out Live Long and Prosper.
- 15:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Live Long and Proper. Proper.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 3: So it's it's there's a lot going on. Oh, shoot.
- 15:15Speaker 3: There's a Benjamin Sisko card. Let's see. What does this say?
- 15:17Speaker 1: Legendary creature. Yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 3: At the beginning of your end step, create a one
- 15:22Speaker 3: one red officer creature token for each dilemma you face
- 15:27Speaker 3: this turn. Wow. Let's see if you pay. It looks
- 15:31Speaker 3: like seven mana. One of each color and plus two more.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Exile the top five cards of your library. You may
- 15:38Speaker 3: cast any number of these spells with mana value less
- 15:42Speaker 3: than or equal to the number of officers you control
- 15:46Speaker 3: from among those cards without paying their mana cost. Wow,
- 15:50Speaker 3: that's pretty strong.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Yeah, so there we go. There's going to be a ton,
- 15:55Speaker 3: a ton of cards. I'm excited. It'll be a lot
- 15:58Speaker 3: of fun.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Well, I think there's a Magic the Gathering game in
- 16:01Speaker 1: my future, so.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I would suggest getting a pre-release deck. Or,
- 16:08Speaker 3: I mean, a pre-con deck. They have the commander pre-con
- 16:11Speaker 3: decks already ready to play.
- 16:14Speaker 1: You don't have to kill them.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Okay. Pre-con deck. I'll have to.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Right on. Well, that's all the news stories that we have.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I've got one more announcement.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Oh, go for it.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So I talked to the owner of the Grand Rapids
- 16:28Speaker 1: Comic Con. He sent out a mass email about getting
- 16:32Speaker 1: some posters. So behind me is a poster of the
- 16:35Speaker 1: Grand Rapids Comic Con, as well as I got some
- 16:38Speaker 1: cards here, too. So the Grand Rapids Comic Con is
- 16:41Speaker 1: going to be November 13th, 14th, and 15th at the
- 16:44Speaker 1: DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Guys, this con is
- 16:49Speaker 1: the real deal. It's a big convention center.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 1: So it's on par with anything you'd see in Chicago
- 16:57Speaker 1: or anything like that. Or Indianapolis. It's a big deal.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So if you're anywhere in the southern Michigan area, I'm
- 17:05Speaker 1: going to be there late on the 13th. I'll be
- 17:09Speaker 1: there all day Saturday and part of the day on Sunday.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Nice.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'll be hanging out with some of the Starfleet International people.
- 17:16Speaker 1: If they do a panel, I'm going to be involved
- 17:20Speaker 1: in the panel. So, uh, there's a lot of great, uh,
- 17:23Speaker 1: a lot of great stuff there. Um, a lot of
- 17:26Speaker 1: great vehicles are going to be there. Um, so like the,
- 17:29Speaker 1: I think the, the car from Harry Potter and, uh, the, uh,
- 17:33Speaker 1: the Jeep, the gas powered Jeep from Jurassic park replicas
- 17:36Speaker 1: are going to be there for photo ops and everything.
- 17:38Speaker 1: So there's going to be some, um, you know, mid
- 17:41Speaker 1: tier like comic book writers and celebrities and artists and,
- 17:46Speaker 1: Some on-screen celebrities and things. And the panels are great.
- 17:49Speaker 1: So if you're going to be there, get a hold
- 17:50Speaker 1: of me. Send me a message on Facebook Messenger. We'll
- 17:52Speaker 1: do a meet-up. And so it's going to be fun.
- 17:56Speaker 3: That's exciting, man. That'll be a lot of fun.
- 17:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:59Speaker 1: The Grand Rapids Comic Con is always a big deal. Oh,
- 18:01Speaker 1: that's cool. So we got some good performances by the
- 18:03Speaker 1: Harp Twins and the Wolfgang Twins. They do an awesome show.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And once you get in, it's all free.
- 18:11Speaker 7: Oh, cool.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Cool.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Well, I'm sure you'll have a good time.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely. Okay.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Well, should we get to our main topic? Let's do it.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 18:26Speaker 3: All right, so our main topic is we are reviewing
- 18:29Speaker 3: the first episode of Center Seat 2. These are a
- 18:34Speaker 3: series of Star Trek documentaries. They're available on YouTube. They
- 18:38Speaker 3: were put on by the Nacelle Company. They're also the
- 18:41Speaker 3: company that does some of those Star Trek action figures
- 18:45Speaker 3: that people are really excited about. So they also did the,
- 18:49Speaker 3: the Nassau company has also done a lot of documentaries.
- 18:52Speaker 3: They did the, the toys that save us, the movies
- 18:55Speaker 3: that made us those kinds of things.
- 18:58Speaker 1: So great docs too.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And honestly, like you can see that DNA in the
- 19:04Speaker 3: center seat documentary.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yep.
- 19:07Speaker 3: It's edited very similarly, very fast paced, very kind of
- 19:10Speaker 3: tongue in cheek. So, It was probably my favorite thing
- 19:14Speaker 3: about it. So this first one, they're all different topics.
- 19:18Speaker 3: And this first one was about the movie Star Trek
- 19:20Speaker 3: Generations and what it was like to put that on.
- 19:24Speaker 3: We do have an IMDB page specifically for this one episode.
- 19:29Speaker 3: And it got a 7.1 out of 10. So overall,
- 19:33Speaker 3: people like it.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yeah. So, yeah. That's about right. I mean. You know,
- 19:38Speaker 1: with these types of documentaries, it's not the first documentary
- 19:41Speaker 1: that's been done about generation. You know, I joke about,
- 19:47Speaker 1: this kind of felt like one of those TikTok or
- 19:50Speaker 1: YouTube short videos, you know, the top 10 things you
- 19:53Speaker 1: didn't know about generations, except I did because I, you know, uh, uh,
- 19:58Speaker 1: in the top 1% of Star Trek fans, as far as,
- 20:01Speaker 1: you know, right. Toot my own horn, but I know
- 20:03Speaker 1: a lot of crap about Star Trek and I know
- 20:06Speaker 1: a lot of crap about, uh, Star Trek generations. Because
- 20:10Speaker 1: I've seen behind the scenes of every Star.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Trek movie that's ever existed multiple times.
- 20:16Speaker 1: And if there's a different version of behind the scenes,
- 20:20Speaker 1: I'll watch that too.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Okay.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I got to say, though, that it was nice to
- 20:25Speaker 1: see some of the newer interviews. Yeah. With all the
- 20:29Speaker 1: producers and writers and things. And I believe, was that
- 20:34Speaker 1: narrated by Gates McFadden?
- 20:37Speaker 3: Yes, it was. Okay.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Dr. Crusher was narrating it.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Yep. And it was nice that she did it because
- 20:47Speaker 1: one of her chief complaints about this movie is she
- 20:51Speaker 1: wasn't in it that much.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:55Speaker 1: From other sources that I've... other documentaries that I've seen
- 20:59Speaker 1: and stuff like that. So it was nice that she
- 21:02Speaker 1: was willing to.
- 21:03Speaker 3: She got to tell the story.
- 21:05Speaker 1: She got to tell the story. And it's true that
- 21:08Speaker 1: in a lot of her movies, in a lot of
- 21:10Speaker 1: the movies that she's in, the Star Trek movies, there's
- 21:13Speaker 1: not a ton for her character to do or to
- 21:17Speaker 1: say because, you know, it's not a doctor-centered storyline.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Right, right. She's just kind of there.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Right. It doesn't matter if it's Dr. Crusher or Dr. Bashir.
- 21:28Speaker 1: There's not, in these stories, in these movies, these four movies,
- 21:31Speaker 1: there's not a lot for the doctor character to do, so.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Right, right. But, No, you know, unlike you, I didn't
- 21:38Speaker 3: know a lot of this stuff because I haven't followed
- 21:41Speaker 3: it that deeply. I didn't realize that there were two
- 21:44Speaker 3: competing scripts and whichever one they like better, that's the
- 21:48Speaker 3: one that we're going to go with. You know, Hollywood
- 21:51Speaker 3: still does that, right? Like there was recently, they were
- 21:56Speaker 3: commissioning two different G.I. Joe scripts, one from Max Landis
- 22:01Speaker 3: and one from Danny McBride. and apparently they have gone
- 22:05Speaker 3: with Danny McBride's script. So yes, this still happens all
- 22:11Speaker 3: the time.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:13Speaker 3: So it's not new to Star Trek. I would love
- 22:17Speaker 3: to know what that other script was. Do you know
- 22:18Speaker 3: by chance?
- 22:20Speaker 1: The documentary touched on it a little bit. Yeah. No,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I don't know the full details of the script, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: it's interesting to hear what could have been.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:31Speaker 1: And it's interesting that when you have Because I can
- 22:34Speaker 1: imagine the producers and the director and some of the
- 22:37Speaker 1: writers might, like, hold their breath as somebody like William
- 22:40Speaker 1: Shatner comes on the set. Because, you know, when William
- 22:44Speaker 1: Shatner comes on the set and says, you know, I
- 22:48Speaker 1: think that maybe we should, you know, if it's a lower,
- 22:53Speaker 1: if it's some other person, if it's, you know, maybe
- 22:57Speaker 1: Gates McFadden or Michael Dorn saying maybe we should do whatever,
- 23:00Speaker 1: the producers and director can kind of go, eh, get
- 23:02Speaker 1: out of here, kid, you're bothering me. But when William
- 23:04Speaker 1: Shatner comes on the set and says, you know, when
- 23:07Speaker 1: he starts throwing his weight around.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Right.
- 23:10Speaker 1: You know.
- 23:11Speaker 3: That's a different story.
- 23:12Speaker 1: That's a different story. Yeah. So, yeah, I can imagine
- 23:16Speaker 1: being a little bit nervous when some of those big,
- 23:18Speaker 1: big wigs come on the set. But it's interesting to hear,
- 23:22Speaker 1: you know, Braga's and some of the producers and writers
- 23:25Speaker 1: talk about their experiences. And that's why I said earlier,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I like the fact that they had newer interviews. Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I did like that.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And a bit. And as time goes on, you know,
- 23:36Speaker 1: the perspectives that these people have compared to the perspective
- 23:39Speaker 1: they have when they're filming the behind the scenes for
- 23:42Speaker 1: the movie, for the DVD release 20 years ago, their
- 23:45Speaker 1: perspectives change a little bit.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:50Speaker 3: No, it was a lot of fun. I like how
- 23:52Speaker 3: fast paced the documentary was. They're about, what, 45 minutes roughly.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yep.
- 23:57Speaker 3: And so there's four other episodes. There's five of them total.
- 24:01Speaker 3: So we'll be going through them. But, yeah, they're a
- 24:04Speaker 3: lot of fun. You know, I don't know the topics
- 24:08Speaker 3: of the other ones. It could be all the generation
- 24:11Speaker 3: movies that it could be like, you know.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Well, they might go through them. Yeah. I read some
- 24:16Speaker 1: of the episode three.
- 24:17Speaker 3: I think episode two is about first contact.
- 24:20Speaker 1: OK.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I think I could be wrong.
- 24:23Speaker 1: That would be.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I'm sure we could Google this, but I kind of
- 24:25Speaker 3: want to be surprised.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Right, right. Another thing, you know, one of the things
- 24:31Speaker 1: they talked about, which, again, it's something I knew before,
- 24:34Speaker 1: but the original death scene for Kirk was he was
- 24:38Speaker 1: going to get shot in the back by Sawyer.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Yes, yeah.
- 24:41Speaker 1: And that's how he died.
- 24:43Speaker 3: And you see it. They have the raw footage of it.
- 24:46Speaker 1: They do. They do. They shot it. They shot the
- 24:48Speaker 1: footage and everything. And they were like, no, we don't
- 24:51Speaker 1: like this. And all the producers and the directors and
- 24:53Speaker 1: the writers were like, sorry, we don't have time to
- 24:55Speaker 1: do anything. So this is the way it's going to be.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Because when they said they were going to do this movie,
- 25:01Speaker 1: they had a release date before they had a script,
- 25:05Speaker 1: a director, the final name of the movie. They said, hey,
- 25:10Speaker 1: this is coming out in November of 1994, whether you
- 25:13Speaker 1: want it to or not.
- 25:15Speaker 3: So I'm going to give a quick hot take. When
- 25:18Speaker 3: you say, oh, Kirk dies getting shot in the back,
- 25:20Speaker 3: that sounds bad. But when you saw the raw footage
- 25:23Speaker 3: and how it went down, I don't think it was
- 25:25Speaker 3: as bad as people say.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 25:28Speaker 3: I don't love it. I don't know it, but it's
- 25:32Speaker 3: not this like horrible thing.
- 25:33Speaker 1: He's just right. I mean, he's going to die. He's
- 25:36Speaker 1: going to die. But I think people didn't like that.
- 25:38Speaker 1: It wasn't a hero's death. You know, there, there wasn't
- 25:42Speaker 1: any drama about it. It was, you get shot in
- 25:45Speaker 1: the back. How do you, how does James T. Kirk
- 25:48Speaker 1: died by getting shot in the back?
- 25:51Speaker 3: Garrick did say that is the safest way.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It is the safest way after all.
- 25:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:56Speaker 1: But, uh, and, and they were going to just, they
- 25:58Speaker 1: were going to go with it until they, they, they
- 26:00Speaker 1: showed it to, to some test audiences and the test
- 26:03Speaker 1: audience are like, no, I don't think so.
- 26:07Speaker 3: So they're like, well, on the bridge bridge on the captain.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Right. What, what are they going to do? And
- 26:12Speaker 1: they said, well, we've still got the sets up. We
- 26:14Speaker 1: still let's have them just fall from the bridge. Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And they scrambled and got everybody together. And, um, William
- 26:22Speaker 1: Shatner has told the story before, and they told the
- 26:24Speaker 1: story of how he came up with the oh my.
- 26:28Speaker 1: He ad-libbed oh my. And I thought that was perfect.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I really did. I give Generations maybe a 6.5 out
- 26:37Speaker 1: of 10. But I thought that death scene, that minute
- 26:44Speaker 1: of movie was done really well. I thought he did
- 26:47Speaker 1: a really good death scene. You know, it was fun.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And then just staring off into the distance as if
- 26:52Speaker 1: he's seeing something that the audience is never going to
- 26:55Speaker 1: know what he's seeing and just saying, oh my.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I thought it was great.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 3: The movie's not that great. It's fine. It's not.
- 27:05Speaker 1: It's not.
- 27:06Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 27:07Speaker 1: But it had some great moments. They also talk about the,
- 27:09Speaker 1: you know, just speaking about death, you know, dying. The
- 27:13Speaker 1: Enterprise D. Yeah. The Enterprise D died.
- 27:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:18Speaker 1: It got done, blowed up. Yeah. And they talked about the, uh, the,
- 27:23Speaker 1: the saucer landing sequence was absolutely incredible. Um, I loved
- 27:29Speaker 1: it watching it in 94 and rewatching it like we
- 27:32Speaker 1: did earlier this year, last year, it was still great.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It still holds up. It's still an amazing sequence.
- 27:39Speaker 3: I love how big the model was. Didn't they say
- 27:41Speaker 3: it was like 15 inches across?
- 27:43Speaker 1: It's huge.
- 27:44Speaker 3: It's huge.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 7: 15 feet.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 3: 15 feet. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And it was resettable. The way they did it is
- 27:50Speaker 1: they just had it on this arm that came out
- 27:54Speaker 1: of the ground. Yeah. And when they wanted to reset,
- 27:58Speaker 1: they just brought it back up the hill and did
- 28:01Speaker 1: all the shrubbery over the little where the arm comes out.
- 28:04Speaker 3: All the miniatures.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Yeah. All the miniatures. And they could reset it.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:07Speaker 1: So. Yeah, and they touched on that whole sequence a
- 28:11Speaker 1: little bit, and that was cool.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah. It's a good documentary, and I think we're going
- 28:16Speaker 3: to have fun watching the other ones.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I think so.
- 28:19Speaker 7: I think so.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I enjoyed that.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Right on.
- 28:22Speaker 1: How many do they have out?
- 28:23Speaker 3: I think there's five of them total, I think. And
- 28:25Speaker 3: I never saw the first round of Center Seat.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I didn't either. It might be something we might.
- 28:30Speaker 3: I went looking for them, and I couldn't find them.
- 28:31Speaker 3: I think they're on the History Channel's streaming service or
- 28:35Speaker 3: something like that.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Okay.
- 28:37Speaker 7: Okay.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks like they got five episodes out so far.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Well, we'll go through them. That'll get us straight to
- 28:43Speaker 3: about Thanksgiving, and then we'll figure something out after that.
- 28:47Speaker 1: We need content, man. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 3: You got to feed that beast.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I mean, Skydance. I mean, whoever's going to be in
- 28:53Speaker 1: charge then.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Jacob, Vision Quest is really good.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Yes.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yes, it is.
- 28:58Speaker 1: We've only seen the first episode, so we're going to.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Three and four dropped this week, too.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Okay. And Jacob, you are right. It is a Christmas movie.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Star Trek Generations.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Generations is a Christmas movie, yes.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Absolutely. All right.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Well, should we get to listener feedback?
- 29:21Speaker 1: Love it. All right. Love to.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Listener feedback.
- 29:27Speaker 1: All right.
- 29:28Speaker 3: We do have a voicemail, but before we get to that,
- 29:30Speaker 3: if you want to join us in listener feedback and
- 29:33Speaker 3: you want to join us on the show, please put

- 29:59Speaker 3: we got one. And so let's play that voicemail.
- 30:03Speaker 2: This was a really good episode of this documentary series.
- 30:06Speaker 2: I actually learned some stuff.
- 30:07Speaker 3: No, it was good.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Anyone else think Captain Kirk's death should have been different?
- 30:13Speaker 2: And have you guys seen, like, the.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Magic card set for Star Trek?
- 30:19Speaker 3: There's a lot of stuff in there.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Looking forward to getting it, especially making a Borg deck
- 30:24Speaker 4: for those who actually play Magic's Gathering.
- 30:26Speaker 3: There you go.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Anyways, have a good one.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Yeah, there's actually going to be a Borg pre-con deck.
- 30:36Speaker 3: So that'll be exciting.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Really? Okay.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So if you want to join us,
- 30:42Speaker 3: if you want to leave us a voicemail in the future,

- 31:25Speaker 3: we got Chazbiz going. Do you want to do one
- 31:26Speaker 3: at a time or do you want to bring them
- 31:27Speaker 3: both on?
- 31:29Speaker 1: Bring them both on.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Let's do it. Jasmine says do it. We're bringing them
- 31:35Speaker 3: both on. They're all here. How you guys doing, guys?
- 31:40Speaker 2: Good morning, Vietnam.
- 31:42Speaker 1: That's right.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Did you guys watch the documentary? Which documentary was it again?
- 31:47Speaker 3: The Center Seat, the first episode.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I have not.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I haven't looked it up.
- 31:53Speaker 3: It's on YouTube.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I haven't looked it up.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's all free. These documentaries are all free on YouTube, so. Yeah.
- 31:59Speaker 7: Okay.
- 32:00Speaker 2: What's it about? Star Trek?
- 32:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's Generations.
- 32:05Speaker 1: This one.
- 32:05Speaker 3: The first one. Okay.
- 32:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 4: And my dad's got the Generation poster, the 25th anniversary,
- 32:11Speaker 4: a long time ago.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Oh, nice.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Oh, nice.
- 32:14Speaker 1: I remember that poster.
- 32:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Yeah, we've got all kinds of posters from way back
- 32:18Speaker 4: in the 80s and 90s.
- 32:19Speaker 1: That's how old I am, because I'm remembering the 25th
- 32:22Speaker 1: anniversary poster when Generations came out, and now they're celebrating 60.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I don't know if my math is right, but that
- 32:31Speaker 1: seems like 35 years. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I just turned 35 last Sunday.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Oh, happy birthday. Happy birthday.
- 32:40Speaker 7: You're just young.
- 32:41Speaker 1: You're a puppy.
- 32:43Speaker 7: You're just a young pup.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I'm a cripple.
- 32:46Speaker 3: He has to drink his coffee. So I was just.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Reading here, the center seat, the first one, 55 years
- 32:54Speaker 1: of Star Trek, there was 11 episodes that came out,
- 32:56Speaker 1: and it came out like in 2000.
- 32:58Speaker 7: It would be five years ago.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Yeah, 2021 through 2022.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Oh, during COVID times. Here, nerds, watch this while you're
- 33:07Speaker 3: locked in.
- 33:08Speaker 7: Yeah, right, right. How the crap did we know this?
- 33:12Speaker 3: There was a lot going on in the world at
- 33:14Speaker 3: that time.
- 33:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 33:17Speaker 2: What show was going on in 2020? I've been watching
- 33:20Speaker 2: the whole movie.
- 33:21Speaker 1: The episode names are great. Lucy Loves Trek, Saturday Morning Pinks,
- 33:27Speaker 1: Trekking Through the 70s, Trek Goes to the Movies, Whale's
- 33:31Speaker 1: God and Pepto-Bismol, QQQ.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Nice.
- 33:37Speaker 1: It's been a long time. That's great.
- 33:40Speaker 4: I think the fourth film was my favorite growing up
- 33:47Speaker 4: as a kid.
- 33:48Speaker 3: The Whales?
- 33:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:50Speaker 4: I fell in love with the movies more than the
- 33:51Speaker 4: TV shows and then I fell in love with the
- 33:53Speaker 4: shows later on.
- 33:58Speaker 1: My favorite of the original movies has got to be
- 34:02Speaker 1: The Undiscovered Country. I watched it over and over. In fact,
- 34:07Speaker 1: my buddy that's on the chat, Gabe. We're talking 35
- 34:14Speaker 1: years ago. He'd come over to the house and we'd watch, like,
- 34:18Speaker 1: what do you want to put on? Let's watch Undiscovered Country.
- 34:22Speaker 1: We must have watched Undiscovered Country two dozen times.
- 34:26Speaker 4: I couldn't even count how many times I've seen it.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Between that and First Contact.
- 34:31Speaker 1: First Contact is my other favorite movie.
- 34:34Speaker 3: That was on HBO, Jasper?
- 34:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Well, okay.
- 34:38Speaker 7: From Star Trek 4, 5, and 6. Yeah. Those were
- 34:44Speaker 7: all on repeat growing up.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Yeah. I wasn't into Star Trek as a kid. I
- 34:50Speaker 3: didn't get into it until I was like 19 or 20.
- 34:52Speaker 3: So I didn't grow up with any of the movies.
- 34:55Speaker 6: I probably saw Star Trek 5 and 6 more times
- 35:01Speaker 6: than any of them.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Yeah. When I saw Wrath of Khan, I thought that
- 35:05Speaker 3: was the first movie. Because everyone told me to start
- 35:08Speaker 3: with that one. And it wasn't until later I found out,
- 35:12Speaker 3: oh no, there's one before it.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 7: Yes, because when I was really little, they had Kahn on, right?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 7: And that scared the crap out of me, because the
- 35:22Speaker 7: ear thing.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:23Speaker 7: I always thought that was a creepy movie.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Well, I thought, like, when I finally went to go
- 35:28Speaker 3: watch the first one, or, you know, before doing this show,
- 35:32Speaker 3: I thought the first movie was like, oh, because Rathacon
- 35:35Speaker 3: is such a, like... It's a sequel. And I thought
- 35:38Speaker 3: the first movie was how they met Khan and how
- 35:42Speaker 3: they stopped him the first time and now he's back.
- 35:45Speaker 3: It was not, apparently. I know.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Totally different.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Whenever I start a Star Trek movie binge, I usually
- 35:52Speaker 2: skip one. Yeah.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Most people do.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Most people do.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Two, three, and four is like one big movie.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 2: I put on the first one, I'm out. I'm going
- 36:04Speaker 2: to sleep.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's nice to go to sleep with that.
- 36:08Speaker 1: You know, something I just read about movies three and
- 36:12Speaker 1: four was there. This is in the novelization, but it's not,
- 36:17Speaker 1: it wasn't shot or anything like that. It was about
- 36:19Speaker 1: how Uhura got from earth to Vulcan. Cause if you remember,
- 36:26Speaker 1: she helps everybody escape in the search for Spock. And
- 36:30Speaker 1: then at the end, and then she's there at the
- 36:33Speaker 1: end of the movie, in three and then she goes
- 36:35Speaker 1: off and has her adventure in four. Yeah. Well, cause
- 36:37Speaker 1: she helps them escape. So she's a, Oh, she's a
- 36:40Speaker 1: wanted criminal too. So in the novelization, I didn't read it,
- 36:43Speaker 1: but I read about it. She escapes Starfleet headquarters and
- 36:49Speaker 1: just barely makes it to the Vulcan embassy. Oh, and
- 36:55Speaker 1: that's how she's able to get transport to Vulcan. She
- 36:59Speaker 1: escapes to the Vulcan embassy.
- 37:01Speaker 4: So many times I never thought about how did Ahura
- 37:04Speaker 4: end up there?
- 37:06Speaker 1: Right. Apparently that's in the novelization. I'm going to have
- 37:09Speaker 1: to find the audiobook and listen to it.
- 37:13Speaker 4: They just have AI do a whole 30 minute video.
- 37:19Speaker 1: They did an AI picture of it. They show Ahura
- 37:23Speaker 1: standing behind a gate with Sarek. And there's two Starfleet
- 37:28Speaker 1: security officers on the other side of the gate from
- 37:31Speaker 1: the 23rd century wearing their Starfleet security helmets and chest protectors.
- 37:41Speaker 2: You can't get me. I've almost caught up on Enterprise
- 37:45Speaker 2: Season 4. I've been re-watching the Orville.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Oh, nice.
- 37:51Speaker 5: Okay.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Y'all know we're getting a new Ted animated series coming
- 37:54Speaker 2: out on Peacock.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 37:55Speaker 3: I heard about that.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Oh, okay. I just started watching Ted. Oh, nice.
- 38:04Speaker 2: I am not yet on Vision Quest.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Vision Quest is good. I'm excited this week. Dexter Resurrection
- 38:10Speaker 3: Season 2 comes out, and I love that show.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I love the Dexter series.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Yeah, my wife watched that.
- 38:15Speaker 7: Do you guys have Apple?
- 38:18Speaker 3: I do.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I haven't got it yet.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Amazon Music.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Willow Bay?
- 38:23Speaker 7: Widow's Bay.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Widow's Bay, yes. I have not watched it. It's on
- 38:27Speaker 3: my list. I really want to see it.
- 38:30Speaker 7: It's actually really good.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I really like Pluribus. That was great.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I watched Pluribus.
- 38:35Speaker 7: Spooky and funny at the same time.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Okay.
- 38:39Speaker 3: I will have to watch that.
- 38:41Speaker 1: If you've got Apple, For All Mankind is 100% binge-worthy. Yeah, definitely.
- 38:47Speaker 2: I've heard of it.
- 38:49Speaker 1: It's so good. It's so good.
- 38:52Speaker 6: I tried watching like three episodes. I'm like, why is
- 38:54Speaker 6: this so slow?
- 38:56Speaker 3: I just finished the first draft of my new screenplay.
- 39:00Speaker 3: And so my reward for myself is I'm going to
- 39:02Speaker 3: go watch Clay Bays today. Okay.
- 39:05Speaker 2: I'm going to wait for that to drop on Friday.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Oh, that's right.
- 39:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:08Speaker 3: I don't know about your area, Jacob, but I live
- 39:12Speaker 3: in an area with Regal Theaters. And so they have
- 39:14Speaker 3: a pass for $ 25 a month. You can go to
- 39:16Speaker 3: the movies anytime you want.
- 39:18Speaker 4: We got a family theater. There have been so many
- 39:23Speaker 4: different families that bought the theater.
- 39:24Speaker 2: It's like $ 4.
- 39:24Speaker 1: 25 for a ticket.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Oh, that's not bad. It's like $ 4 small. like four screens.
- 39:31Speaker 2: It's not fancy, but it's a theater and it's cheap.
- 39:36Speaker 1: We've got a cheaper theater like that. It's about a
- 39:38Speaker 1: half hour away. Whenever we've got a big group of people.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I could bring our family, like five people, popcorn, everything
- 39:49Speaker 1: for like $ 60. Yeah.
- 39:51Speaker 7: Do you guys smuggle in food?
- 39:54Speaker 1: I do.
- 39:55Speaker 7: Like contraband and all that?
- 39:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I like weird stuff, Mike. I like frozen blueberries, like
- 40:02Speaker 3: the freeze-dried blueberries.
- 40:04Speaker 7: Are you eating spaghetti out of a Ziploc or whatever?
- 40:06Speaker 3: Hell yeah, I am.
- 40:08Speaker 7: Sticking your hands in there.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Tamales. Just bringing in tamales.
- 40:12Speaker 4: In a town about 30 minutes from here, they actually
- 40:15Speaker 4: got a rare drive-in theater.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 2: There's not that many left, though.
- 40:20Speaker 3: We got one about two hours for me.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Watch Star Trek on a drive-in would be nice.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Oh, that'd be fun. Yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 6: One thing about a drive-in is you've got too many
- 40:30Speaker 6: distractions and the sound sucks.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:34Speaker 6: Because they give you the hangs on your window and
- 40:36Speaker 6: that speaker sounds like you're listening to a sonic car.
- 40:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Or if you leave your car running the whole time,
- 40:42Speaker 3: that's so much gas.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Or if you just leave the battery on, that's just Or.
- 40:48Speaker 6: Somebody turns on their car and washes out the whole screen.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Or it can be like a twister and just have
- 40:58Speaker 4: a tornado go through the theater.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Yeah. The drive-in that's two hours away from me, they
- 41:07Speaker 3: let you rent out little radios and you just have
- 41:09Speaker 3: the radio in your car. But I would think nowadays,
- 41:13Speaker 3: why not just have an app that you can just
- 41:16Speaker 3: play the movie audio from.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Well, I thought the way they did it is you
- 41:21Speaker 1: turned it into a radio frequency.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Right, but then you've got to leave your car either
- 41:26Speaker 3: idling the entire time or just the battery on your car.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Either way, you're kind of screwed.
- 41:33Speaker 2: You have two giant inputs to adjust.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:39Speaker 7: Especially if you have a loud truck or something.
- 41:41Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 41:41Speaker 7: Turn it on.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Yeah. Nobody's got a big muffler on their cars.
- 41:45Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 41:47Speaker 7: I saw Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull that way.
- 41:50Speaker 7: And I was like, I was kind of irritated. I
- 41:52Speaker 7: was like, I don't like this. It's like the movie
- 41:56Speaker 7: wasn't good. And plus, you know, you.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Want to drive in cast.
- 42:00Speaker 2: What do you mean the movie wasn't good?
- 42:02Speaker 1: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the best Indiana Jones movie.
- 42:05Speaker 3: I know. It was not. It was so bad.
- 42:07Speaker 1: It was one of the worst.
- 42:08Speaker 2: I still say Sean Connery should have joined Star Trek.
- 42:11Speaker 3: There you go.
- 42:12Speaker 1: There you go.
- 42:13Speaker 7: 100%.
- 42:13Speaker 1: There you go. The skull.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Make it show. Make it show.
- 42:17Speaker 3: So, hey, would you guys like if we got those
- 42:21Speaker 3: Star Trek Choose Your Own Adventure books and let the
- 42:23Speaker 3: chat decide?
- 42:23Speaker 6: That'd be funny.
- 42:25Speaker 3: Yeah. We have to do that one of these days.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Let's do it. Let's do it.
- 42:31Speaker 2: All right. Center seat. Center seat. Okay.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Yeah. They're on YouTube.
- 42:38Speaker 2: All five of them. Yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 7: They posted it. Was it yesterday you posted it?
- 42:43Speaker 1: And then earlier this week.
- 42:45Speaker 3: We'll post it in the group. You'll see it there.
- 42:47Speaker 7: But sometimes it gets buried on Facebook. That's the issue
- 42:50Speaker 7: with Facebook.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Well, the Facebook group is popping, man. People communicate.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:58Speaker 4: I've been seeing rumors about year one possibly happening.
- 43:03Speaker 2: No, that's not happening. Like I said, rumors.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's what they wanted to do
- 43:09Speaker 3: post Strange New Worlds was build up to year one.
- 43:15Speaker 3: But it's not going to happen.
- 43:16Speaker 2: That's why I know it's fake. That's how I knew
- 43:18Speaker 2: it was fake. What was that, Cheskis?
- 43:23Speaker 7: So the Kurtzman era is over after the merger.
- 43:26Speaker 3: I mean, not officially yet, but, you know, signs are
- 43:29Speaker 3: not looking good.
- 43:30Speaker 1: No.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I just hope Kurtzman.
- 43:33Speaker 6: I heard something could happen. Maybe a trillionaire might buy
- 43:39Speaker 6: Star Trek.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 43:41Speaker 2: Jonathan Franks. Jonathan Franks.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:45Speaker 3: He's not a trillionaire.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Terry Metallus, Jonathan Frakes.
- 43:47Speaker 7: Yeah, I was like, there's only one trillionaire.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Now we know.
- 43:52Speaker 3: There's estimates that some of the guys in the.
- 43:54Speaker 7: He's spelled out Paramount.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Elon Musk.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I'll be an Elon Musk fan if he just gives,
- 44:04Speaker 1: you know, Terry Metallus and Jonathan Frakes like, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 1: $ 100 billion. Go ahead and make whatever you want.
- 44:11Speaker 3: I don't want an Enterprise with the Tesla logo on it.
- 44:15Speaker 3: That's what would happen.
- 44:17Speaker 2: A Tesla Enterprise.
- 44:19Speaker 1: It'd be called Star Trek X.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Well, wasn't that an industry?
- 44:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:26Speaker 7: And then the.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Star Treks with an X on it. We don't need that.
- 44:31Speaker 3: He's going to have the Enterprise doing flips like that roadster.
- 44:34Speaker 7: It'll be the Enterprise X.
- 44:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:36Speaker 3: We already got that.
- 44:37Speaker 2: We got the Defiant. Yeah.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 7: In the future, it'd be the Enterprise X.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:48Speaker 2: I could see the Defiant turning into a Tesla.
- 44:52Speaker 3: There was an old fake tweet when J.J. Abrams was
- 44:55Speaker 3: doing Star Trek, and it was something along the lines of,
- 44:59Speaker 3: you guys keep complaining, I'm going to put flames on
- 45:02Speaker 3: the Enterprise.
- 45:06Speaker 4: I saw a meme years ago when Disney acquired Star Wars,
- 45:11Speaker 4: and it said.
- 45:11Speaker 2: faster Sulu before Disney acquires us.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I've seen that. I don't know.
- 45:18Speaker 6: Would that have been a bad thing if Disney acquired
- 45:22Speaker 6: Star Trek?
- 45:22Speaker 7: I don't know. That's a good question.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Well, are Star Wars fans happy with what's happened?
- 45:29Speaker 7: No.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Nobody's happy.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Up and down.
- 45:33Speaker 7: There's a new season of Ahsoka coming out in January.
- 45:37Speaker 2: That I'm looking forward to.
- 45:38Speaker 1: That I'm looking forward to.
- 45:40Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to Doomsday.
- 45:42Speaker 5: Doomsday?
- 45:44Speaker 2: We just got a new teaser.
- 45:47Speaker 7: Your tickets for Doomsday, have you?
- 45:49Speaker 3: No, not yet.
- 45:51Speaker 1: We'll do an episode on Doomsday.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure we will.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Doomscast.
- 45:58Speaker 7: I got my Thursday ticket. I mean, the theater's already
- 46:01Speaker 7: pretty much sold out.
- 46:02Speaker 6: I bought it two weeks ago. I couldn't believe there's
- 46:06Speaker 6: Every single seat is gone.
- 46:08Speaker 1: I'll start working on my introduction for our Doomsday cast.
- 46:13Speaker 3: I'm hoping the Paklids have a review for us.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Oh, okay. I'll talk to my people.
- 46:18Speaker 3: I love the Paklids review on Doomsday.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I'll talk to my people.
- 46:21Speaker 4: I'm going to get a Stark t-shirt.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Just to confuse everybody.
- 46:28Speaker 3: If we can figure out a way to get Gold
- 46:29Speaker 3: Dukat's review, I'm sure he's going to be like, Dr.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Doom was horribly... Nobody understood him.
- 46:36Speaker 7: Like, on X, you know, on Twitter.
- 46:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 7: And every day he'd have a post, you know?
- 46:42Speaker 3: He still has them. He's still there.
- 46:44Speaker 7: He must be great on my Twitter, but it was hilarious.
- 46:46Speaker 7: All his posts were great.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I haven't had a Twitter account in a while.
- 46:50Speaker 7: Everything's all right.
- 46:52Speaker 1: I haven't been on my Twitter account in a long time. Like,
- 46:54Speaker 1: I just, I don't get on it anymore.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been a while for me, too. I mean,
- 47:00Speaker 2: the least thing I get on nowadays.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:02Speaker 1: But, TrekCast is hopping on Facebook and Instagram. What else
- 47:09Speaker 1: are we on? We are on X. We're on TikTok.
- 47:13Speaker 2: TikTok.
- 47:15Speaker 1: We're on all the things.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Yeah, there we go. We're on all over. Yeah, I
- 47:21Speaker 3: think that's pretty much wrapping it up before we get
- 47:23Speaker 3: into all these other little side quests.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 47:28Speaker 3: We'll be back, I don't know, next week probably with.
- 47:31Speaker 2: The Episode two?
- 47:34Speaker 3: Yeah, there's five of those episodes, so we'll do episode
- 47:37Speaker 3: two next week.
- 47:38Speaker 7: Okay.
- 47:39Speaker 4: I'll start binging them.
- 47:44Speaker 7: Nice.
- 47:46Speaker 3: We'll catch you guys next time.
- 47:47Speaker 2: See you later.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Thanks, guys, for being on.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Bye.
- 47:53Speaker 5: This is Captain Benjamin Sisko of Deep Space Nine and
- 47:56Speaker 5: Space God to the Bajorans. I have a mission for you.
- 47:59Speaker 5: This falls outside of Starfleet guidelines. So I can't order you,
- 48:03Speaker 5: but I'm asking for volunteers. Volunteers who will subscribe to
- 48:06Speaker 5: the TrekCast YouTube channel, leave five-star reviews on your podcast
- 48:10Speaker 5: app of choice, and share TrekCast across your social media accounts.
