- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: And others, one of the prophets, and he said to them, but whom say ye that I am, and Peter answereth, and sayeth unto him, thou are the Christ.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: You ever just got in the answer right?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: You ever been maybe in a pop quiz in school, and no one else could figure it out, and you shot your hand up in the air, and you knew the answer.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: You got the gold star and the smiley face.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's what Peter got here.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: That weren't the Christ.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: Not only was he bold enough to say it, he was right in saying it.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: Verse 30, and he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: You realize that the time for his crucifixion is coming very soon.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: The time for him to give his life and
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's all in God's time and he charges them keep this under your hat for 31 and he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected of the elders and of the chief priests and scribes and be killed in after three days rise.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: again.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: And he's spake that saying openly.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: And Peter took him and began to rebuke him.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: They don't know if he took him by the shoulders or pulled him off to the side or what have you.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: But when Jesus, when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuke Peter.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: So his sounds as though, the peers as though Peter may have took him maybe took him a little space away.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe he just took him in.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: kind of tried to have a private conversation with him, turned Jesus back on the disciples, he's looking him dead in the eye, and rebukes the one he just called Christ.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: But when he had turned about Jesus and looked in his disciples, he rebuked Peter saying, Get the behind me, Satan, for thou saviorist, not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: And when he had called people unto him with his disciples, also he said unto them,
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Who soon ever will come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me?
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: For who soon ever will save his life shall lose it?
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: But who soon ever shall lose his life or my sake and the gospel's the same shall save it?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: But what shall I profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Or what shall a man give and exchange for his soul?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: For a who soon ever therefore shall be ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation of him also shall the son of man be ashamed.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: when he'd come within the glory of his father, with the angels, the thought today.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: They were on a convey as this highest of highs, lowest of lows.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Think about Peter, verse number 20, 90, sayeth unto them, but whom say ye that I am in Peter answereth and sayeth unto him, thou art the Christ.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then, verse 32, Peter took him and began to review him, and Jesus' response was firm.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Get thee behind me.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Satan, you're speaking of, we're speaking with words like your father that devil.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: You don't tell me whether or not I'm going to suffer in die.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: You don't tell me that I'm not going to die for the sins of the world.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'm King of Glory, but I've come here for the purpose of saving.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: mankind, get the behind me Satan, highest of highs, lowest of lows I wonder how full of himself, and I'm not assuming he was, but I wonder, I wonder, I can see myself in pier sometimes.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if I had been Peter.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: That weren't the Christ.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're correct, Peter.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: Keep that on your head.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder how much I'd be beaming with pride and kind of be a little full of myself.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: And just kind of rub my fingernails right there, my lapel, and yeah, I know what's up.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then Jesus begins to...
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: speak to them and tell them directly.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what's going to happen to me in Peter.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: Still, maybe a little fool of himself, or maybe maybe out of concern regardless, he pulls Jesus aside, pulls him off to the side and begins to rebuke the King of Glory.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned the gold star in the smiley face, I used to.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: I still pick them up every once in a while, not often, but don't think less of me.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: All right, you're not allowed to, all right, you get to give me grace for this.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: I have enjoyed the symbol pleasures of Calvin and Hobbes.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: You remember that old, I think was Bill Watterson, the old comic strip.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh man, for some reason, if you're wondering if my personality was formed by reading a lot of Calvin and the Hobbes as a young age, you're probably correct.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: My mom tells us that sarcasm was our first language and English came synchent.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's the case or not, and I don't know if that's something to be proud ever not, but I enjoyed, I had my parents for some reason or another.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: They had a full, the full Calvin Habs collection, there was probably eight, nine, ten books.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so I enjoy reading them.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: I enjoy reading everything.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that was part of it.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: I just enjoyed reading everything.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm right now reading a biography of Ben Franklin.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I've got a multiple books that my stack of books to read is so high.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm trying to work through them.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: But as a child, I read everything.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: Calvin Hobbes.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: One of them came to mind.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: There's this comic strip where I think Susie Durkins was her name.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's one of his arch nemesis as a six year old little Calvin.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: He did not like Susie Durkins.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: had gotten something along the lines of a gold star or a smiley, a smiley face I think it was on her homework assignment.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I got a smiley face on mine, and Calvin gets very irritable.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And the little, the speech bubble, the thought bubble that comes up in the last, the last comic strip pain there was something along the lines of, he was looking down at his,
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: homework because I think Susie asked and what did you get?
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to talk about it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: None of your business.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: It looks done in his and he says, I didn't even know they made a puking face.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: The insiduation is that he did very poorly on his homework.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: Where was I going with all that?
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: I had a point, highest of highs, lowest of lows.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes, you get the gold star in the smiley face, and sometimes you don't.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes, I think of my dad, when he was, when he would do editing for some of his subordinates on the orders or memos or things that needed to go out to their company or battalion or he was a DC
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: And he had the opportunity to do a lot of editing because he wanted to make sure these things were correct.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: And he would talk about how sometimes he would have to bleed all over them because his red pen was just, they were so atrociously grammatically wrong.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: And of course his subordinates had to go and fix it, right?
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Highest of eyes, lowest of lows.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing though, how often times the lows come right on the heels of the highest of highs.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it's the best days that we then see immediately after the worst days.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'd encourage your friend.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Don't let that be true for you.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Am I saying that we can live on the high all the time we're going to be on the mountain up?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I would be careful to guard that experience if you were to guard that opportunity.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: When God has given you the chance to be close to him and he always does, this is not some momentary thing.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do our best not to disrupt that, to hurt that, to mess that up.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Too often I do something right after the good days, right after the best day at church, I do something have a thought or I have an attitude and it just destroys to something we what God has done and at least in my own mind.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: highest of eyes, lowest of most.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: Tomorrow on the broadcast, we're going to jump into Mark Check number nine if you can believe it, we're making good time.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: I want to thank you so very much for joining me once again.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: My prayer as always is as simple as, have a great day for his glory and if you would pray for us.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk to you, God bless you.
