Transcript
- 0:03Hey guys, this is the Daily Ripples and it's Corey and today is September 12th owning my part.
- 0:10The Stone.
- 0:12Freedom begins when I stop making the excuses and accept responsibility for my own life.
- 0:17Riper War and Practical.
- 0:19Today I will own my words, my choices and my actions.
- 0:22Blame may protect my pride for a moment, but responsibility builds a better future.
- 0:28Honest ownership is where lasting change begins.
- 0:31Or honest ownership.
- 0:34Ripple 2 spiritual.
- 0:36As I follow Christ example of humility and truth.
- 0:39The Holy Spirit gives me the courage to stop hiding behind excuses.
- 0:44The Father meets me meets my honesty in my grace, not condemnation, and uses it to shape me into the person he created me to be.
- 0:57I don't know, when I was reading this, I was thinking like, man, like, you know,
- 1:02But I've been so good at excuses, right?
- 1:06Like, you know, that's like, I, I've said this before, but it was so funny, man.
- 1:11because I remember like it was yesterday.
- 1:13Um, I was like a 3rd grade.
- 1:16in this after school class, and, uh, we had these little carts.
- 1:22I had little 4 wheels and we'd like, you know, run and like it would get on our knees and roll, like slide on them and, um, I, uh, I slid one at my friend, this girl I grew up with, family friend, and She went, like, she was kind of like on, like, sliding too, and it hit her in the chin.
- 1:45Anyways, I, uh,
- 1:48When I went up to her,
- 1:50She was bleeding at this and like, I'm, you know, teachers are around us and, you know, immediately as I walk up, I kind of fell on the ground and grabbed my leg and I was like, oh.
- 2:02Because I wanted like, I wanted to be hurt too, because I didn't want all the attention.
- 2:08Because, like, if I didn't get hurt, like, then she got hurt anyways, but I found that kind of like in the same, like in the same respect of my life. And not as much today, but it still happens, right?
- 2:21I mean, But like when things pop up, man, like I'm really quick.
- 2:26To just, and I'm quick with words too.
- 2:30I'm fast.
- 2:31Like, you know, I mean, like, I'm good with comebacks, I'm good at saying things, and, you know, so, like, right when something pops up, immediately, I could shift it to you, make it your fault, and then, like, and it might, and it might not even be related to you.
- 2:46I mean, I've done that for so long and so like, you know, I kind of think about page 61 of the big book.
- 2:55It talks about like, You know, the, the actor.
- 2:59It says, it says, oh, it starts with 60.
- 3:02If his arrangements would only stay put.
- 3:05And like I think about that, like a few people would only stay put.
- 3:08If only people would do as Corey wished.
- 3:11The show would be great.
- 3:13Everybody, including himself would be pleased.
- 3:16Life would be wonderful and trying to make these arrangements.
- 3:20Our actors.
- 3:22So like, you know, the way I was taken through this, it's, you know, our actor, he, my sponsor had me put my name in there.
- 3:29So it would be like, you know, Corey maybe sometimes be quite virtuous.
- 3:33Corey may be kind, consider it patient, generous, even modest and self-sacrificing.
- 3:39Right.
- 3:40So I can be nice.
- 3:42I can do that.
- 3:44And or I can make it.
- 3:46your fault and be, on the other hand, Corey may be egotistical, selfish, dishonest, mean.
- 3:53But with most humans, he's more likely to have varied traits, right?
- 3:58So I can get mad.
- 3:59I can blame it on you.
- 4:00I can tell you, you know, hey, you didn't do it, right?
- 4:03This is why we're here.
- 4:05especially at work, right?
- 4:07You know, it's so much easier to blame someone to blame the person that doesn't work there anymore.
- 4:13goodness.
- 4:15Instead of taking responsibility.
- 4:16Because I can't stand on the responsibility because I don't like those outcomes.
- 4:23It's a big fear.
- 4:25But when I do, man, like, you know, what's?
- 4:28Where he, like, you know, the thing I come into is like, you know, these little lies here and there blaming this person doing this.
- 4:36Like, yeah, everybody's human.
- 4:38Um, and I should just act human instead of acting superior.
- 4:45Because me acting superior to other people and blaming them doesn't get anywhere.
- 4:50It doesn't get me anywhere, especially with this, if I'm looking at this in the sense of God's world, right?
- 4:56So the sense of God's world.
- 4:58If everybody's manifestation of God, I'm just lying to God.
- 5:02And an individual.
- 5:04But he goes on to say this thing, right?
- 5:07It says, blame may protect my pride for a moment.
- 5:10But responsibility builds a better future. Over here on uh, 67.
- 5:18I think the wording the wording is very important.
- 5:20Because, you know, at this point on 67, this 67 is the point in between the third.
- 5:26Well, the beginning of the, like, I look at it as like a, uh, a pipe and like with a filter on it.
- 5:34You got water coming through, grabbing all the stuff and then the flip between the 3rd column and the 4th column.
- 5:40Because it says referring to our list again.
- 5:43So our list has, at that moment, the 1st 3 columns, putting out of our minds the wrongs others had done.
- 5:52We resolutely look for our own mistakes.
- 5:55And the cool thing about the 4 column deal is, like, the way I do it is I have the 4th column on another sheet of paper. And it aligns with me because putting out the others, what the others had done, that's on the other sheet, because if I still have it on that same sheet, I'm still looking at that side of that sheet. And then that may, and the way that alignment works, it makes sense to me.
- 6:18Um, because resolutely looked at our own mistakes is with determination looked at our own mistakes.
- 6:25That was situ- that goes where we've been selfish, dishonest, self seeking frightened, though a situation had not been entirely our fault.
- 6:33We tried to disregard the other person involved entirely.
- 6:37And I have entirely.
- 6:39Man, I have all the absolutes.
- 6:40I have a lot of absolutes in this book, circle and highlight it, underline, whatever, because they're important.
- 6:47Where were we to blame?
- 6:49Where was I to blame in this situation?
- 6:52How what did I do?
- 6:55Usually I set the ball rolling and, you know, on page 60, 62,
- 7:00It says.
- 7:01I mean, if you're alone, I remember I was sitting in the meeting one day and this guy was like, man, I don't want one with everything in the book. And here's why.
- 7:11Because it says our troubles we think are basically of our own making.
- 7:15But my ex-wife, he goes on to talk about this his ex-wife and now it's her fault.
- 7:22Well, like, I'm coming to that.
- 7:24Like, you know, enigma, conundrum, you know, of that sorts and, you know, so.
- 7:30Didn't I put my life in these different women's lives in general?
- 7:36Didn't I promise these women, all these things, and be this person that I'm not?
- 7:44In general, did not do that.
- 7:47And now I'm back because they're not acting right.
- 7:50Well, maybe I didn't act right.
- 7:52Maybe I put them in my life.
- 7:54May, you know, just these are, you know, I mean, I have the choice of who I date, who I marry, who I do this with.
- 8:01So would it not, did I not get the ball rolling to begin with?
- 8:05Did I not say some things to them that was I just loving all the way around?
- 8:11No, I mean, I wasn't.
- 8:13Y'all might be perfect.
- 8:14But the way I am, man, like, you know, so when I come into the line that, you know, I'll tell you like for the 4th step promise, I've got, is so our troubles we think are basically of our own making.
- 8:26They arise out of me.
- 8:28And the alcohol is an extreme example of self-will run ride.
- 8:33And, you know, what I find is what I see and me and others and I really try these disciplines because like it helps me be more...
- 8:42I can see better, but sometimes I can't, you know, sometimes I'm just running around.
- 8:46And I don't know it, right?
- 8:48Because it says, is an extreme example of self-will run right, though he usually doesn't think so.
- 8:55Huh.
- 8:56I think if I don't think I'm running self-well run right, I'm not going to know.
- 9:01Anyways, the back to the ripple, it says honest ownership is where lasting change begins.
- 9:08And there's some key things throughout here when we're talking about amends, like taking ownership, like on page 67, for instance.
- 9:19It says we avoid retaliation or argument.
- 9:21We wouldn't treat sick people that way.
- 9:23If we do, we destroy our chance of being helpful.
- 9:26That's a kind of a guiding factor in this and over here on page 70. 74.
- 9:36It says, the rule is, we must be in the rule.
- 9:39I mean, that seems very not a suggestive moment.
- 9:42The rule is, we must, must is a very absolute too.
- 9:47The rule is we must be hard on ourselves, but always.
- 9:51That's a considerate of others.
- 9:54Always consider of others.
- 9:55And so these are just these guiding factors of like how I'm supposed to go about this and to continue on to truth.
- 10:04I like proving the text, right?
- 10:06Use the text to prove the text, you know, going back and forth and, It says on page 77.
- 10:12Under at the bottom of it, under no condition do we criticize such a person or argued?
- 10:19You know, it's talking about what I'm making amends with these people and it goes on to say on the next, on the next, on 78, it says, his faults are not to be discussed.
- 10:30We stick to our own.
- 10:32If our manner is frank and calm, frank and open, we will be gratified with the results.
- 10:38Seems like a promise to me.
- 10:41So when I go through this stuff, like I'm not, I'm not in the business of pointing fingers.
- 10:46And, you know, I think it's so important, you know, as I'm going through this work, as I'm finding, you know, how this works, and demonstrating it, I start practicing that those principles, those rules and those under no conditions and those must.
- 11:04I start practicing through my day-to-day light.
- 11:07Um, you know, without doing that, how would I ever do that?
- 11:12Because I've never done that.
- 11:13And to think like, I don't know if you, if you guys have been over in the situation, but it's like, getting a fight with my significant other.
- 11:21And then like, you know, like, I'm good at, you know, saying things like, hey, you know, this is where it started, you kind of said this and then I said this.
- 11:33So I'm still putting blame on them, but in a more generous, you know, because we talked about in the beginning of this, right?
- 11:41You know, I could be nice about this.
- 11:43I could be, uh, what's the word that uses? It says, oh, 61.
- 11:50It says, I could be patient, generous, considerate, and modest and self-sacrificing.
- 11:56I can say that I'm very, and maybe you're not, but I am.
- 12:01Oh, I could be very persuasive with my words and be like, man, you know, you said this one thing and kind of set me off.
- 12:07So I started saying these things, things to you, and now we're here.
- 12:12So I still put the blame on that other person.
- 12:14And it tells me in this book not to do that.
- 12:17No, I, we, his fault are not to be discussed.
- 12:21We stick to our own.
- 12:22Well, I think that 1st part of how that started would be sticking to not sticking to my own.
- 12:28So I come through these things, like, you know, I think through the, through the, well, I get to page 84, right?
- 12:34Continue to watch the selfish dishonesty, resentment, interfere.
- 12:38When these crop up, we ask God, it wants to remove, then we discuss them with someone immediately, or immediately, and make amends quickly if we've harmed anyone.
- 12:46What if I don't know how to make amends?
- 12:48What if I'm still blaming others how to what I'm making amends and it's still never my fault?
- 12:52Now, I'm never to blame.
- 12:54And it's still the my problem is still you people.
- 12:58Well, you people, man, I don't know how many people listen to this right now, but let's say there was a 100.
- 13:04I don't think there is, but there, let's say there's a 100.
- 13:07And it was all y'all's fault.
- 13:09Well, I'll tell you this.
- 13:12That's a lot of work for all y'all to start acting right for me to start having a good life.
- 13:17So that's the reason, the promise, going back to page 62, that's the reason that promise is so important.
- 13:25Because me, if I'm just the problem.
- 13:28So our troubles we think are basically over making.
- 13:31If I'm just the problem and it's not everybody else.
- 13:34That's a lot simpler thing, then the whole world being the problem.
- 13:40On the ripple, on the spiritual part, it says, as I follow Christ's example of humility and truth.
- 13:49The Holy Spirit gives me the courage to stop hiding behind excuses.
- 13:54I'll tell you, you know, I'm not perfect at this at all by any means, but like, you know, so when I'm on my stuff, I'll tell you that, like when I'm when I'm proud, like when I'm practicing this stuff in a good degree, you know, I'll catch myself in the middle.
- 14:13I'll catch myself before I start making excuses.
- 14:18I'll say, you know, hey man, this is my fault.
- 14:21What can I do, make it right.
- 14:23Or, well, sometimes what happens is I'll start talking.
- 14:27How I'm blaming them, and then I'll stop myself in the middle of it and say, you know, you were right, you know, this is me.
- 14:34And, you know, please forget what I just said in that little part because it has nothing to do with you.
- 14:40It has to do with me.
- 14:42And man, that's a lot, that's, that's beginning for me, right?
- 14:47You know, and I, I don't look at this is like, you know, a race and I'm, but you know, I do have guiding things in my, like I do things, and I think it's important for me to practice these disciplines.
- 14:59If I don't practice them,
- 15:01I'll never get better at them.
- 15:03And that's kind of just the way I look at that.
- 15:05And, you know, so if I'm practicing, you know, what does it look like for me to practice?
- 15:08Well, I keep some note cards in my pocket. to help me set, like, you know, the, the, the least it could do is just help me remember, right?
- 15:16It help me try to practice this better.
- 15:19Because, man, this is it, the only way to do this is to do it.
- 15:24That, like, I can talk about these words all day long, but, you know, I, if I'm not doing, it doesn't matter.
- 15:31And that,
- 15:33I like, and I've said this before, but you know, when you really start understanding how this book works.
- 15:40I, uh, I think it's interesting because, like, it becomes less more of a less than a three-dimensional object and more like a 4th 4-dimensional object where I start using it.
- 15:52It starts connecting in my day-to-day life.
- 15:54But if I don't know the information either, how am I going to practice it?
- 15:58And I think that's the most important thing.
- 16:01You know, I was talking to my sponsor about this last night.
- 16:03I was listening to this thing about, you know, these people, these, these people having this certain situation and, you know, it, it's interesting, you know, because it doesn't tell me in this book or anywhere, you know, where, where fellowship grew, the program grew.
- 16:23Well, because in the forward to the 4th edition.
- 16:27And so when literature was present, AA Grubo leaps and bounds.
- 16:31You know, so when I sit to these principles in this work and what's in the black and white versus what's in my self-delusional head.
- 16:40Man, I have a guiding thing that can push, it says in a book, right?
- 16:45You know, what once was a flimsy read.
- 16:48became the loving hand of God.
- 16:50You know, that's say true to my life.
- 16:53You know, through the, you know, subjective nature of my feelings, and I go back to this book and that's right there, it tells me exactly what to do.
- 17:02You know, we were, me and my sponsor talking the other day.
- 17:06I said, you know, like, you know, Think about colonies sometimes and I know what the answer is.
- 17:11He says, you know my answer is.
- 17:13And I said, he said, well, well, what's my answers normally?
- 17:18I said, well, out of the book?
- 17:19And he said, well, you know the book's answers.
- 17:21So like, maybe that's the thing.
- 17:23Maybe, maybe you're, it says in there that says in our book, it says maybe you're just one man with this book.
- 17:30Maybe you're just one man with this book without a sponsor.
- 17:34Maybe you're just one man with this book with a newcomer.
- 17:37Do you know how to effectively use this book to be effective to help that newcomer?
- 17:43Or are you over there, you know, searching for the words in there and don't know how to use it?
- 17:48So, you know, it tells me in this book.
- 17:51It says, man, to bring experience and knowledge.
- 17:55It's an important deal to me, and, um, I know it's probably cool when Michael gets on here because we, he can talk a little bit more about, um, other stuff, I guess, sometimes, but man, it's really cool to see Michael too, man.
- 18:11Like, he is just, boom, boom, boom, hit, like, he, he's, like, to see his growing knowledge of this literature is really cool as well.
- 18:19Well, and that's with the prayer.
- 18:22Thank you guys for listen on the Saturday.
- 18:24Hoping they talk too long for commute or whatever you're doing and, you know, just try to be nice to someone today.
- 18:31Prayer, Father God, give me the humility, accept responsibility for my wife, through your Holy Spirit, help me walk in the honesty, encourage each day, share me through the example of Jesus, and continue your work within me.
- 18:44Amen.
- 18:45Y'all have a good day.
