- 0:24Speaker 1: got lots to talk about. Jeremy Piven. This is a
- 0:26Speaker 1: laughed riot. He's going to stand up tour, that's right.

- 0:31Speaker 1: a great dramatic performance in a film called The Performance.
- 0:34Speaker 1: He's a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan. Tell some great Christellio stories.
- 0:37Speaker 1: He's fabulous cinephile. In sixty Guy Piers taking shots at
- 0:41Speaker 1: Kevin Spacey because I'm pretty sure you and Teal did.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Not watch The Brutalists. So after that, reveal my own.
- 0:45Speaker 1: But we are talking Guy Pierce at least, and of
- 0:48Speaker 1: course we are discussing what is going on with the
- 0:50Speaker 1: Four Nations and David Ears remember him five year anniversary
- 0:53Speaker 1: of an Ebug of All Time, having said that though
- 0:56Speaker 1: we want to start with an am I wrong? Nothing
- 0:58Speaker 1: we love more than this segment here and unscripted, the
- 1:00Speaker 1: floor is yours.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Well, hello everybody, Well this am I wrong segment where
- 1:05Speaker 3: we're testing this thing out. Uh, it happened to just
- 1:08Speaker 3: fall in my lap, probably an hour and a half
- 1:11Speaker 3: before we recorded this. So we're at the Whole Foods
- 1:15Speaker 3: in New Jersey. We're going, me and my wife are
- 1:17Speaker 3: going trying to get some food for tonight, and we're looking.
- 1:20Speaker 3: My wife's looking for pesto. She's looking for pesto. She's like,
- 1:22Speaker 3: I just want some pre made stuff. Let's do it quick,
- 1:24Speaker 3: you know, we don't need to like just be fussing around.
- 1:27Speaker 3: It's gonna be too late. So we walk around. Finally
- 1:29Speaker 3: we can't find it. After five seven minutes. My wife goes,
- 1:31Speaker 3: I'm just gonna ask the guy that works here. So
- 1:33Speaker 3: she asks the guy that works there Wan and she
- 1:36Speaker 3: he's bent down and he's stocking the shelves, and we go, hey,
- 1:38Speaker 3: excuse me, sir, do you know where the pesto is?
- 1:41Speaker 3: And he looks at us blank five seconds, blank stare,
- 1:44Speaker 3: turns looks at my wife and he just goes, I
- 1:47Speaker 3: think we're sold out. Wow, and my wife and then
- 1:50Speaker 3: my wife goes sold out, like of like the really
- 1:55Speaker 3: popular kind, like this vegan pesto that's really good. I
- 1:58Speaker 3: was looking for goes he goes, yeah, I just it's crazy.
- 2:01Speaker 3: He's like crazy, it's sold out.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:03Speaker 4: So we're like all right.
- 2:04Speaker 3: So we start walking away and we're like, hey, like
- 2:07Speaker 3: what then, what are we going to cook with?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Like?
- 2:08Speaker 4: What are we gonna make?
- 2:09Speaker 3: We proceed to walk about ten to twenty paces, and
- 2:12Speaker 3: in front of us, much to our surprise, is a
- 2:15Speaker 3: whole row shelf a pestle.
- 2:18Speaker 2: So this guy just I'm picturing.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Like a cardboard cutout like literally fifty pestos.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Here, unlikably on sale, like different kinds, different brands. And
- 2:29Speaker 3: we look at each other and it's one of those
- 2:32Speaker 3: things you're both like did he not know and just
- 2:34Speaker 3: purposely lie? Or did he know and just like didn't
- 2:38Speaker 3: care to tell us.
- 2:39Speaker 1: No, it's the first one he doesn't know, And rather
- 2:41Speaker 1: than say honestly, I'm not sure and be viewed as
- 2:43Speaker 1: potentially incompetent, he lied and goes, oh, we don't have it,
- 2:46Speaker 1: like really, but yeah, it's all gone.
- 2:48Speaker 3: So I guess yeah, So I guess My question of
- 2:51Speaker 3: that is like, if you do not know, do you
- 2:54Speaker 3: just lie and omit the truth that you have no
- 2:57Speaker 3: idea where anything is and just say yeah, just so.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Right, now his anterwest right, because if you report it him,
- 3:04Speaker 1: if you go ask, hey, what kind of an employee
- 3:06Speaker 1: have here?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Like this guy doesn't even know what he's doing here,
- 3:07Speaker 2: Like I don't know, like what.
- 3:08Speaker 4: But I report?
- 3:10Speaker 3: Wouldn't I report him more to Hold Foods Corporate that
- 3:13Speaker 3: he just cost them a sale, but we did end
- 3:14Speaker 3: up buying it, so home jokes on us we end
- 3:17Speaker 3: up buying.
- 3:18Speaker 2: But tell he's a similar situation.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Like this, right. This was in New York some time ago.
- 3:22Speaker 5: I was in a Best Buy and I asked, you know,
- 3:24Speaker 5: someone working there for help. Immediate response, sorry, I'm on
- 3:27Speaker 5: my lunch break and walked off. And I looked at
- 3:29Speaker 5: the time and it was nine thirty in the morning.
- 3:32Speaker 5: So this guy just didn't want to work.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I didn't even like that.
- 3:36Speaker 5: I think that's where the pesto was. I didn't ask
- 3:39Speaker 5: him where the pesto was. I just to help me,
- 3:42Speaker 5: can you help me? And there's response was I'm on
- 3:44Speaker 5: my lunch break. Sorry, And it was the tap back
- 3:46Speaker 5: of the lunch hour.
- 3:48Speaker 1: A somebody would ask you for directions, you have to
- 3:51Speaker 1: actually listen to them. Take a left right there, take
- 3:52Speaker 1: a right at the corner store, there's a gravel road.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Now with Google Maps, it's okay, But if you could
- 3:56Speaker 1: give false directions, will you will you just tell someone
- 3:58Speaker 1: that it's kind of in that area.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean if I have a general idea, yeah,
- 4:03Speaker 3: that I'll be I'll tell him. I'll officit by saying
- 4:05Speaker 3: I don't know street signs, but you know, it's kind
- 4:08Speaker 3: of like you know, twenty paces and under the right
- 4:10Speaker 3: and then maybe the left.
- 4:11Speaker 4: It's kind of in that it's about northeast.
- 4:13Speaker 2: You gotta come on, I love directions.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Just go go west about five miles and then go
- 4:20Speaker 1: where the I don't know where the fuck I am
- 4:21Speaker 1: right now, even though we're going for west.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Are you kidding?
- 4:24Speaker 6: You?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Look pioneer? Do I like a butter and I can
- 4:27Speaker 1: tell with the sun where north is. Look at me,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I don't.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Know, Well, the sun's over your left shoulders, so you
- 4:33Speaker 3: should north northwest. That that pisses me off. That people
- 4:37Speaker 3: even know that pisses me off. But anyway, yeah, that's
- 4:40Speaker 3: kind of just just Google Maps. But yeah, the what
- 4:44Speaker 3: I when I was leaving the store, I looked at
- 4:46Speaker 3: my wife and I said, I want to follow this
- 4:47Speaker 3: guy now because I want to know if like he
- 4:49Speaker 3: even works here. Like it's like I want to see
- 4:52Speaker 3: wand and sit down Tom. I want to sit with
- 4:54Speaker 3: him and be like, hey, Wan, yeah, hey, the Pesta
- 4:58Speaker 3: wasn't sold out, So why did you lie to me?
- 5:01Speaker 4: Just tell me why?
- 5:04Speaker 2: I agree?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Like, I'm not gonna porch. This just's bro to bro, Like,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm just like, what what's going on here?
- 5:08Speaker 4: I'm not anyway he would.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Have lied again, he was honestly, I had no idea.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I guess we just got that in there. I'm like,
- 5:12Speaker 1: you are lying.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Through your teeth.
- 5:14Speaker 1: This is unbelievable. You just compose a liar. You're actually
- 5:18Speaker 1: your job of your liar.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Yeah, you're great anyway, and we're off all right.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So that's where am I wrong? Swing.
- 5:24Speaker 1: That's with the actual hockey, the US and Canada playing
- 5:26Speaker 1: tonight in Boston. Four Nason's faced off title on the line,
- 5:30Speaker 1: three one US win on February fifteenth, and it was
- 5:32Speaker 1: an unbelievable game, there's no question. But despite what Matt
- 5:35Speaker 1: doug Russo had to say, we'll get to that in
- 5:36Speaker 1: just a second.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Use this show here, but I will.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Say this, Jenny again, three Canadians here, all of you
- 5:44Speaker 1: in America I'm very let's say, squamish. I'm concerned. I mean,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I can't wait for the game. I hope, I hope
- 5:49Speaker 1: Canada wins. We delivered. But one thing that's been interesting
- 5:52Speaker 1: is people look at these numbers and again we'll get
- 5:53Speaker 1: to the sports in just a second, the actual game,
- 5:55Speaker 1: but four point four million Americans watch, which is a
- 5:57Speaker 1: gigantic number for hockey and America huge, but also right right,
- 6:02Speaker 1: four point four dude, that's great mill of February. But
- 6:04Speaker 1: Canada got a five point seven fifteen percent of our
- 6:07Speaker 1: population watched this game.
- 6:09Speaker 2: So if you look at America three or thirty eight million, whatever,
- 6:11Speaker 2: his points are a one bottom. Liize this.
- 6:12Speaker 1: For Americans it's a big deal and for us it's
- 6:15Speaker 1: always a big deal. What's gonna be the key to
- 6:18Speaker 1: Canada winning tonight?
- 6:20Speaker 3: Well, in the first matchup, it was a defensive masterclass
- 6:24Speaker 3: by the USA hockey team, specifically Jacob Slavin and Brock Faber.
- 6:29Speaker 3: They ate up a ton of big minutes. They frustrated
- 6:32Speaker 3: the Canada ought uh, sorry that they frustrated the Canada attack.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Canada got really frustrated, started throwing pucks into the middle,
- 6:38Speaker 3: played a little bit too individually, and just played a
- 6:42Speaker 3: little too cute. And I think for them to win
- 6:45Speaker 3: this game, they're gonna have to really rely on making
- 6:48Speaker 3: it more chaotic in front of Connor Hellibuck, because Connor Hellibuck,
- 6:51Speaker 3: if he sees it, he's gonna stop it. And if
- 6:54Speaker 3: he's getting a little bit of guys in his face,
- 6:57Speaker 3: pucks and bodies in his face, a little bit more
- 6:59Speaker 3: desperation on the offense, it's gonna bode better for the
- 7:02Speaker 3: Canadian team. So you know, the USA, I thought played
- 7:05Speaker 3: a perfect game. Now they're a little banged up going
- 7:07Speaker 3: into the second game where I think Canada's finding their stride,
- 7:11Speaker 3: albeit they almost blew that against Finland. But for this
- 7:15Speaker 3: game tonight, it's listen, you you have your top guys
- 7:18Speaker 3: are gonna have to be your top guys. It's one game,
- 7:20Speaker 3: it's a game seven. This is what guys dream of
- 7:23Speaker 3: to play in a hockey game like this, to be
- 7:25Speaker 3: that it's a legacy game, to be that guy, to
- 7:28Speaker 3: be the hero. And I just think one on one,
- 7:32Speaker 3: one game a game seven. There's a lot of guys
- 7:35Speaker 3: I like on the Canadian team, but it's gonna be
- 7:37Speaker 3: tough because you know, you look at the Kachucks. They've
- 7:40Speaker 3: had a fantastic tournament. They're a little banged up, but
- 7:43Speaker 3: these guys, He's American team and they believe.
- 7:45Speaker 4: The belief is high.
- 7:46Speaker 3: They have a lot to play for, Johnny Gudreau, a
- 7:48Speaker 3: lot of other things, the pride of USA. I'm a
- 7:51Speaker 3: little upset that Donald Trump isn't going.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Uh.
- 7:54Speaker 3: He said he would not be attending, even though we had,
- 7:57Speaker 3: you know, our lame duck Prime Minister Justin trudeaugo, which hey, listen,
- 8:01Speaker 3: he went, so credit to him for doing something to
- 8:03Speaker 3: support Cannon in his tenure. So one thing he did right,
- 8:06Speaker 3: and the whole goddamn tenure in foot of loser anyway.
- 8:09Speaker 3: But Trump's not coming, so that helps the Canadians. So
- 8:12Speaker 3: we're we're cooking in Boston. Him not going, uh, but
- 8:15Speaker 3: I yeah, I just think it's gonna be very And
- 8:17Speaker 3: here's the other thing.
- 8:18Speaker 4: We didn't have Cale mccarr. Cale mccarr's back. Now.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Now obviously USA didn't have Quinn Hughes and they beat us,
- 8:24Speaker 3: but Quinn Hughes is not going to play in this
- 8:25Speaker 3: game as well. So we have Cale mccarr. It's gonna
- 8:28Speaker 3: be a big difference maker. And Connor Hellibuck versus Jordan Bnnington.
- 8:32Speaker 3: One game face off.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Very simplistic, right, goaltending, got shit? They got us in
- 8:36Speaker 1: the goaltending. Yeah, second goal, but he to give up.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I know I'm only looking at one goal, but I'm
- 8:40Speaker 1: like that, that's what.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Of course, pause, he's let off, He's let in a
- 8:43Speaker 3: couple of softies. But a game seven, I want the
- 8:47Speaker 3: chip on his shoulder. I want that cockiness of Jordan Binnington.
- 8:50Speaker 3: And this is a big moment for Connor Hellibuck. He's
- 8:53Speaker 3: showed that he can play in these big games.
- 8:55Speaker 2: He's also shows pooped the bed in the playoffs.
- 8:58Speaker 3: But that's the thing, so this could be this is
- 9:00Speaker 3: the moment, So how do we get there? It needs
- 9:01Speaker 3: to be more chaos in front of him. He's been
- 9:03Speaker 3: way too comfortable this time. Credit to the defense of
- 9:07Speaker 3: Team USA, but now they're losing. Charlie McAvoy who goes out.
- 9:10Speaker 3: He has that surgery, which is scary for the Boston
- 9:13Speaker 3: Bruins fan. I heard Bruins are pissed. I was listening
- 9:15Speaker 3: to Elliott Friedman talk Bruins are pissed because it was
- 9:18Speaker 3: kind of misdiagnosed and he should not. He was hurt
- 9:22Speaker 3: in that Finland game and should not have played against Canada,
- 9:25Speaker 3: but played anyway, got shot up. I'm sure with some nice,
- 9:30Speaker 3: nice druggy papoos that would have helped him get through
- 9:33Speaker 3: it in the nerve blocking.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Region.
- 9:37Speaker 3: So I think it sucks because you don't want to
- 9:40Speaker 3: see the one thing I said about the tournament, I
- 9:42Speaker 3: just don't want to see any major injuries, you know,
- 9:44Speaker 3: and this is probably the most severe I want to
- 9:46Speaker 3: see being comfortable with this tournament moving forward.
- 9:49Speaker 1: So Candy USA has been a great rivalry, certainly in
- 9:52Speaker 1: women's hockey. We're now seeing it in the U West,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and as you mentioned, even politically with Trump and the
- 9:55Speaker 1: terrorist and all the rest of it. Just imagine that
- 9:57Speaker 1: reception that Boston crowd's gonna give oh Canada. That could
- 10:00Speaker 1: be interesting. But you touched on the injuries here, jad Quinn.
- 10:03Speaker 1: He was out McAvoy as you mentioned, the Kachucks are
- 10:06Speaker 1: nursing injuries.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Say Theodore is out week to week. Now, is there
- 10:10Speaker 2: a way we can do this?
- 10:11Speaker 1: I mean, they've already announced a World Cup tournament in
- 10:13Speaker 1: February of twenty twenty eight. I don't think there is,
- 10:16Speaker 1: because before I ask you the question, but I think
- 10:19Speaker 1: there is there's a way you can tell hockey players, hey,
- 10:21Speaker 1: just play at sixty percent, like no what you're playing
- 10:23Speaker 1: for your country. Like you saw immediately the intensity level
- 10:26Speaker 1: that Canadas Sweden game. We talked about last week, the speed,
- 10:28Speaker 1: the passion of the hits, et cetera, the fights, and
- 10:30Speaker 1: Canny will say, I don't think you can tell guys
- 10:32Speaker 1: that let up. But as you said it also correctly,
- 10:35Speaker 1: the drawback is it's unfortunately, there's going to be injuries.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I don't know what the answer is. I don't think
- 10:39Speaker 1: there's an answer. If you're gonna play best on best,
- 10:41Speaker 1: guys are gonna get hurt unfortunately.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's really black and white. I think
- 10:46Speaker 3: the only other sport where you see this much pride
- 10:48Speaker 3: in these games is baseball. But it's no physicality to
- 10:51Speaker 3: it in the sense of there's no hitting. You know,
- 10:53Speaker 3: the pitchers love it, the teams want to win the
- 10:55Speaker 3: World Cup of Baseball. Is that it's called the World
- 10:56Speaker 3: Cup of Bad Baseball. Yeah, w peah, and and that
- 10:59Speaker 3: that's electric factory and for all intensive purposes. It's probably
- 11:04Speaker 3: the only other sport that you see the pride come
- 11:06Speaker 3: out in these games. And guys forget that. Hey, I
- 11:09Speaker 3: don't care if I blow my arm out or I
- 11:11Speaker 3: don't care if I get hurt. I'm winning this game
- 11:13Speaker 3: because playing for your country. You heard Brandon Hagel talk
- 11:15Speaker 3: about it. You know, we're playing for flags, baby, we
- 11:18Speaker 3: all playing for flags in Canada.
- 11:21Speaker 4: But I digress.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't think there's a way around it.
- 11:26Speaker 3: You can't you know, and you can't say put it
- 11:29Speaker 3: in the summer, because you guys, it's a hard enough
- 11:31Speaker 3: for ant it is. Yeah, the summer's off. You can't
- 11:34Speaker 3: do it at the start of the season because then
- 11:36Speaker 3: you're setting guys up for the season. It has to
- 11:38Speaker 3: be at this point of the year. It's the only
- 11:40Speaker 3: way around it, and it's either all in or all out.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I think with this, I don't think there's a way
- 11:45Speaker 3: to sugarcoat it and be like, hey, let's baby, these guys, you.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Know, no hitting or whatever you do.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Flag football, like football does is garbage. So I just
- 11:53Speaker 3: think it's really going to be something that the league
- 11:55Speaker 3: looks at and you kind of as an ownership of
- 11:58Speaker 3: teams and gms of teams, you just got to kind
- 12:01Speaker 3: of grit your teeth and give it the old. Please
- 12:03Speaker 3: don't get hurt, Please don't get hurt every game, and
- 12:05Speaker 3: hope they have fun.
- 12:07Speaker 1: We'll get to our guest Jeremy Piven in just a
- 12:08Speaker 1: second last topic though, speaking of the passion of NHL
- 12:11Speaker 1: players versus the lack of passion the NBA All Star Game.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Our buddy PK suban you've hosted Coast to Coach with
- 12:17Speaker 1: him Andy Patrello on Amazon.
- 12:19Speaker 2: PK went on ESPN and said, hockey's.
- 12:21Speaker 7: A different sport from the NBA. You can't compare the
- 12:25Speaker 7: cultures because of the way the game is played. You
- 12:28Speaker 7: can step on an NBA floor and go through the emotions.
- 12:30Speaker 7: You can't do that in hockey. You can't like the
- 12:34Speaker 7: culture of our sport. You have to play it with passion.
- 12:38Speaker 7: You have to be willing to fight, you have to
- 12:41Speaker 7: be willing to leave it on the ice. That's what
- 12:43Speaker 7: fans are investing in. So for us, when we charge
- 12:47Speaker 7: fifteen hundred dollars for a ticket to come to Fortit,
- 12:49Speaker 7: fans know what they're getting.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Again, I don't mean to be that guy Schirp in
- 12:52Speaker 1: the NBA, but if you've ever seen a greater di comedy, people,
- 12:55Speaker 1: what hockey all is all about and that intensity versus
- 12:58Speaker 1: the lame mass NBA All Star Weekend.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Oh, that was pathetic to watch that. I would love
- 13:05Speaker 3: to see the viewership. If anything, it was pathetic. And no, listen,
- 13:09Speaker 3: nothing against them, it's you. Listen to Kevin Durant. He
- 13:13Speaker 3: tweeted just today talking about retweeted yesterday just talking about
- 13:17Speaker 3: how he said, hey, listen, like maybe we just scrapped
- 13:21Speaker 3: the All Star Weekend because everybody's complaining and guys don't
- 13:24Speaker 3: try hard enough. And I'm like, that's you, guys. You
- 13:27Speaker 3: guys aren't trying hard enough. That's what's causing the problems
- 13:30Speaker 3: in the complaining. And then somebody's clapped back at him
- 13:33Speaker 3: and he just went, well, go watch hockey then, because
- 13:36Speaker 3: they seem to care a lot, And I'm like.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Are you eating me?
- 13:38Speaker 3: There's no other sport where they could just openly shit
- 13:42Speaker 3: on the fans, and the fans are like, here's my money,
- 13:44Speaker 3: here's my money.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Load, It's just load.
- 13:48Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 13:49Speaker 3: And listen, I've said it on multiple of these of
- 13:52Speaker 3: these episodes.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Get your paper booboo.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I'm like, if you can find a way to hack
- 13:57Speaker 3: the system, head, good for you.
- 13:59Speaker 4: I give you the golf clap.
- 14:00Speaker 3: But for Canon, what makes me prideful to be a
- 14:05Speaker 3: guy who played in the NHL and representing his country
- 14:08Speaker 3: is the fact that we could put that all aside
- 14:11Speaker 3: and there's no friends. You could be playing with guys
- 14:13Speaker 3: on your same team and then you play against them
- 14:15Speaker 3: because they're from a different country, and there's such a
- 14:18Speaker 3: melting pot of guys and it's just balls to the wall.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Man.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Guys just sacrifice themselves. This is middle of the season.
- 14:24Speaker 3: You're not getting paid for this. Yes there's a bonus
- 14:27Speaker 3: at the end, but you are not getting your your
- 14:29Speaker 3: predetermined contract. You are getting a bonus if you win
- 14:33Speaker 3: as a team. The way these guys lay their their
- 14:36Speaker 3: their bodies on the line, it's just it gives me chills.
- 14:38Speaker 4: It gives me.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Clammy paws in my hands just thinking about it, talking
- 14:43Speaker 3: about it and watching these guys, it makes me I said,
- 14:46Speaker 3: I said it a couple of times in the last
- 14:47Speaker 3: few days.
- 14:48Speaker 4: This has been one of the only things that's made
- 14:50Speaker 4: me want.
- 14:50Speaker 3: To come back as a player, to experience that feeling
- 14:52Speaker 3: again of just the buzz, the hum, the fans, the country,
- 14:56Speaker 3: the people like it's just this is what makes hockey
- 14:59Speaker 3: so great and This is also a magnifying glass of
- 15:02Speaker 3: what makes basketball so great is that they don't truly
- 15:05Speaker 3: care about It's very much an individual sport, even though
- 15:08Speaker 3: you're within a team. It's very individualistic the culture of it.
- 15:12Speaker 3: And I was sitting with somebody yesterday for lunch and
- 15:16Speaker 3: they told me something pretty interesting. They said they were
- 15:18Speaker 3: like the NBA All Star Game and specifically the sport
- 15:22Speaker 3: has really started to change since Kobe's passed. Since Kobe
- 15:25Speaker 3: was gone, the culture's tried to change because he kind
- 15:28Speaker 3: of moved the bus. Jordan as well was doing that,
- 15:30Speaker 3: but Kobe was the guy that took the mantle. Then
- 15:32Speaker 3: after that, how do you expect Like PK said it perfectly,
- 15:35Speaker 3: and I love what he said, how do you expect
- 15:37Speaker 3: Lebron's that, I'm out, I'm good.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I don't need to play it.
- 15:40Speaker 3: And credit to him, he's created a monster franchise around
- 15:43Speaker 3: himself and and he's created this brand that's synonymous with
- 15:47Speaker 3: him and his lifestyle. But again, people follow that, and
- 15:52Speaker 3: then all the players follow that. There's no accountability anymore.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Guys don't hold each other accountable. And then I just
- 15:58Speaker 3: feel like Kobe's been a huge missing piece in terms
- 16:01Speaker 3: of culture within the NBA and and gamers. So it's
- 16:04Speaker 3: sad to see that Durant would even say that because
- 16:08Speaker 3: I'm a big proponent. You've heard me talk about it before.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I nan of respecting the fans because without them there's
- 16:13Speaker 3: no money. Yeah, without them, there's no money. The viewership
- 16:16Speaker 3: is what drives money, drives brand deals, it drives ratings,
- 16:19Speaker 3: it drives TV deals. It's the fans that show up,
- 16:23Speaker 3: So you have to this is something for them, for
- 16:26Speaker 3: your country. You have to show up and show out,
- 16:29Speaker 3: and it just hasn't been the case. So, like I
- 16:32Speaker 3: said before, it's pathetic.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Well, honestly, the Four Nations has been a reselding success
- 16:36Speaker 1: for everybody except for one person, mad Dog Russo Well
- 16:40Speaker 1: Getsu was commented a little bit later on. But first,
- 16:42Speaker 1: Jeremy Piven is coming up after this break a Blackhawks fan,
- 16:45Speaker 1: a Chris Chellios guy. The performance is a terrific new film.
- 16:49Speaker 1: He has that stand up comedy. You're gonna love this interview.
- 16:51Speaker 1: He's really funny. PIV on the way, What a pleasure
- 17:04Speaker 1: to break an Emmy Award winning act of the long
- 17:05Speaker 1: list of memorable performances and film and television to his credit,
- 17:08Speaker 1: He's done all on every screen, now ventured out in
- 17:11Speaker 1: the cutthroat world of stand up comedy. As if that
- 17:14Speaker 1: wasn't enough, his latest film, The Performance, has earned him
- 17:16Speaker 1: some of the best reviews of his career.
- 17:17Speaker 2: It's absolutely fabulous.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Great to talk to Jeremy pivot again, a previous guest
- 17:21Speaker 1: on to the Foul and here An NHL in script, Jeremy,
- 17:23Speaker 1: great to see him.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Man, how you been?
- 17:25Speaker 8: Is there any way you could say that faster?
- 17:28Speaker 1: I've been accused of talking far too fast, but I
- 17:31Speaker 1: can give it one more take if you want.
- 17:33Speaker 8: Uh No, No, it was literally perfection. He's a pro, consummate,
- 17:39Speaker 8: an absolute pro.
- 17:40Speaker 9: Man.
- 17:40Speaker 8: I'm blown away. Yeah, okay, guys, thank you. I think
- 17:43Speaker 8: we did it. I think that was it.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Speaking of perfection, the performance is unbelievable. Listen, man, Honestly,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I watched my wife and we were blown away. And
- 17:53Speaker 1: and I didn't know much about the original Arthur Miller's story.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I did not know the gravitas and the dramatic chops
- 17:59Speaker 1: you could bring to the story. But I thought you
- 18:00Speaker 1: were phenomenal and quite frankly, a little surprised. Kevin been
- 18:03Speaker 1: getting more awards. Buzz for this performance because it was fabulous.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I know it's a family affair. Tell me, what was
- 18:08Speaker 1: it about the story of that appealed to you and
- 18:10Speaker 1: how it came to be.
- 18:12Speaker 8: A short story out of the New Yorker my mother
- 18:14Speaker 8: gave to me and I read it and I was
- 18:16Speaker 8: just so blown away by it. And you know, it's
- 18:20Speaker 8: there are a few times in my life where I've
- 18:22Speaker 8: read something and it just hit me and I really
- 18:25Speaker 8: got it, and this was one of them. It's why
- 18:28Speaker 8: we do what we do. I just knew if I
- 18:31Speaker 8: could do this right, it'll make people take pause. And
- 18:36Speaker 8: and you know, ultimately it's about how far how much
- 18:40Speaker 8: of yourself will you compromise in this life to be successful.
- 18:46Speaker 8: And in my character's case, he he hides the fact
- 18:49Speaker 8: that he's Jewish to dance for Hitler. And that's the
- 18:52Speaker 8: moment where all of your listeners turn off. They thought
- 18:55Speaker 8: they were gonna they thought they were gonna see you know,
- 18:58Speaker 8: they wanted to see Chris Chelios. They want to talk listen,
- 19:02Speaker 8: they want to talk about some fights, they want to
- 19:04Speaker 8: hear some Gretzky stories. They don't want to hear an
- 19:07Speaker 8: old Jew talk about anything anything.
- 19:11Speaker 1: But I'll tell you one thing about an audience trument,
- 19:12Speaker 1: and we all listen. We all appreciate a good song
- 19:15Speaker 1: and dance man. So I want to know where did.
- 19:18Speaker 8: You I'm not I'm not dancing, thank you. I'm not
- 19:23Speaker 8: a song and dance man. I've never been. Just an
- 19:26Speaker 8: actor and a delusional actor who is stupid enough to
- 19:33Speaker 8: to try anything. But you know, and the in the
- 19:35Speaker 8: words of Dave Chappelle, you get paid for the attempt,
- 19:39Speaker 8: do you know what I mean? And so you know
- 19:42Speaker 8: I I I saw the role, and I just knew
- 19:45Speaker 8: it was the role of my life, and it was
- 19:47Speaker 8: It's the best performance of my life. And and I
- 19:51Speaker 8: just thought, if if I could, I could play the drums.
- 19:54Speaker 8: I played the drums my whole life. If I could
- 19:57Speaker 8: transfer the skill from my hands to my feet and
- 20:00Speaker 8: drum with my feet while learning choreography, then it's game on.
- 20:08Speaker 8: And so that's somehow.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Happened, Jeremy.
- 20:12Speaker 3: You know, this labor of love took fifteen years, which
- 20:15Speaker 3: is crazy. You know, it took my whole life to
- 20:17Speaker 3: make it to the NHL. And listening to you do
- 20:21Speaker 3: some interviews and talk about how you know, sticking with
- 20:24Speaker 3: it and just being ready for when the opportunity knocks.
- 20:26Speaker 3: But how important is it having your family? You know,
- 20:28Speaker 3: sheer a pivot, your sister was there directing it, and
- 20:32Speaker 3: how was how important was it to have your family
- 20:34Speaker 3: around kind of to keep that resolve through the ups
- 20:37Speaker 3: and downs of fifteen years of trying to get this made.
- 20:40Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a great question.
- 20:41Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:44Speaker 8: My mother, who passed away last week, said to me,
- 20:46Speaker 8: you have to stop telling people the truth because they
- 20:50Speaker 8: don't know where to put it. Think about how heavy
- 20:53Speaker 8: that is. Yeah, And I've been telling people the truth
- 20:55Speaker 8: my whole life. And I don't recommend it to anyone.
- 21:02Speaker 8: I don't, I don't, I don't. I'm telling you, man,
- 21:06Speaker 8: people will lose their fucking minds.
- 21:09Speaker 2: It's cost you relationships.
- 21:12Speaker 8: It's It's definitely cost me relationships. It hasn't. It almost
- 21:22Speaker 8: cost me jobs. But it might have cost me jobs
- 21:25Speaker 8: because my father was the best actor I knew, and
- 21:29Speaker 8: he was always telling people the truth them people were like,
- 21:32Speaker 8: the fuck are you talking about. He would just tell
- 21:34Speaker 8: people to their face, like Dad, they can't handle that shit.
- 21:39Speaker 8: And he would. But by the way, here's the irony
- 21:41Speaker 8: of all that. He was my acting teacher since I
- 21:43Speaker 8: was eight my mom as well, and he would while
- 21:46Speaker 8: you know, you know, I respect the fact that you know,
- 21:49Speaker 8: you're a pro player and have that background. And as
- 21:54Speaker 8: as an actor, I started when I was eight, which
- 21:56Speaker 8: is very similar to pro athletes. And my father gave
- 21:59Speaker 8: me a lot of tough love and and we were
- 22:02Speaker 8: in rehearsal one day and he said, there's one actor
- 22:04Speaker 8: in this room, and you ain't it. And he was,
- 22:06Speaker 8: you know, he was right. I hadn't progressed in rehearsal.
- 22:09Speaker 8: It would be like a coach, you know, telling the
- 22:12Speaker 8: player that he wasn't hustling or you know, just wasn't
- 22:16Speaker 8: he wasn't playing with passion or fill in the blank.
- 22:19Speaker 8: But that type of care and love and energy for
- 22:23Speaker 8: me made me a better actor. And now we're living
- 22:28Speaker 8: in times where people are you know, they're handing out
- 22:30Speaker 8: participation trophies and people are holding each other hostage with
- 22:33Speaker 8: their feelings, and you know, the first order of the
- 22:37Speaker 8: day is diversity instead of being competent. It's a it's
- 22:40Speaker 8: just these are but it's a new day downing. It's
- 22:43Speaker 8: a new day downing. And that can transition perfectly into
- 22:47Speaker 8: my stand up. See what I did there, guys, love
- 22:49Speaker 8: this I got you. Don't worry about it. You guys,
- 22:52Speaker 8: just sit back and have another light and shut the
- 22:55Speaker 8: fuck up.
- 22:57Speaker 2: This is easy. This is easy work for us.
- 23:00Speaker 3: You talked about you talking about your your parents being
- 23:03Speaker 3: you know, your acting coaches. My dad was my coach
- 23:06Speaker 3: growing up in minor hockey.
- 23:07Speaker 8: And I mean, I how many how many years did
- 23:10Speaker 8: you play pro?
- 23:11Speaker 3: Thirteen years? I retired two years ago, yeah, thirteen years.
- 23:15Speaker 8: So he did a good job.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Oh he was Listen.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I had a long of those, a lot of those
- 23:20Speaker 3: car rides home after a game where he just turned
- 23:23Speaker 3: around and very similar to what you said, just said, there's.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Two people that gave an effort in that.
- 23:28Speaker 3: There's one person that gave an effort in this car
- 23:29Speaker 3: and it's me driving this car, not you in the
- 23:31Speaker 3: back seat. And but I mean, I'm so grateful to
- 23:34Speaker 3: have had that and to be so close and it
- 23:36Speaker 3: made me so close with my dad, and you know,
- 23:39Speaker 3: talk about you know, our sinceres condolences to the passing
- 23:42Speaker 3: of your mother. Joyce, who's I mean just founded the
- 23:46Speaker 3: Pivot Theater, one of the great acting coaches in Chicago,
- 23:51Speaker 3: And I mean I just wanted to ask, like, having
- 23:53Speaker 3: my dad as a coach, and then your mother, who
- 23:55Speaker 3: read a lot of lines with you and and up
- 23:58Speaker 3: until she passed, Like, how much fun was that Looking
- 24:01Speaker 3: back on that, and also when you were in the
- 24:03Speaker 3: moment of just being able to share those moments with
- 24:06Speaker 3: your mother and your parents.
- 24:08Speaker 8: It was great. It was fun. I mean, the reality
- 24:10Speaker 8: is she'd run these lines with me, and I joke
- 24:14Speaker 8: on stage that I would say, I do lines with
- 24:17Speaker 8: my mom. I mean, I run lines with my mom.
- 24:21Speaker 8: Don't do lines with your mom, kids, you know. Then
- 24:23Speaker 8: I do this whole bit about snorting cocaine with your
- 24:26Speaker 8: mom and what that would be like. You know, She's like,
- 24:29Speaker 8: we have to clean up before the cleaning lady gets here.
- 24:32Speaker 8: Let's start a band. I'm like, let's do less cocaine. Mom, No,
- 24:38Speaker 8: I run lines with their No. She It was incredible
- 24:40Speaker 8: because it just, you know, it was you always have
- 24:43Speaker 8: to be ready. You have to be ready, and the
- 24:46Speaker 8: whole thing about filming is and there's something special about it.
- 24:49Speaker 8: There's nothing that I did that was special. I just
- 24:51Speaker 8: did my job. But not everyone does the job, as
- 24:55Speaker 8: you guys know, not everyone does their job. That's a
- 24:58Speaker 8: whole other That's the story for another day. Off camera
- 25:02Speaker 8: with one hundred and sixteen adult beverage. But I digress perfect,
- 25:06Speaker 8: Oh yeah, perfect. So my mom would say the readiness
- 25:11Speaker 8: is all and it's true, like you have to know
- 25:14Speaker 8: your lines inside and out. So I would just run
- 25:15Speaker 8: them with her, run or run and run like a play,
- 25:18Speaker 8: so that when I would show up for like Entourage
- 25:21Speaker 8: from take one, I've already It's kind of like I'm
- 25:24Speaker 8: in week three of a play where you've already done it.
- 25:27Speaker 8: It's in your bones. You're not reaching for the lines.
- 25:30Speaker 8: You're totally present, and you could be in a state
- 25:32Speaker 8: of play and make it look improvisational and easy, which
- 25:36Speaker 8: is why people think I'm already gold and I'm a
- 25:39Speaker 8: piece of shit, and the reality is I'm just a
- 25:42Speaker 8: stage actor from Chicago.
- 25:47Speaker 2: We'll get into the stand up comedy again.
- 25:49Speaker 1: You gotta see Jeremy performing, as he'll be out there everywhere,
- 25:52Speaker 1: hopefully across this country. You see a stand up But
- 25:54Speaker 1: we do want to talk a little hockey and talk
- 25:55Speaker 1: a little Chicago Blackhocks.
- 25:57Speaker 8: Hold of before we talk, sorry, brother, before we talk
- 25:59Speaker 8: black Hawks. Yeah, I'm going to be at in I'm
- 26:03Speaker 8: here in Santato at the Yeah, I'm going to be
- 26:08Speaker 8: there all weekend so people come out and see me.
- 26:12Speaker 8: As much as I just wanted to see your adorable faces,
- 26:15Speaker 8: I also want to talk about you know what I'm
- 26:18Speaker 8: doing this weekend. I hate to be that guy.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I please be that guy.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Because my wife saw you you stand up in Tempe, Arizona,
- 26:29Speaker 3: about a year and a half ago, two years and
- 26:31Speaker 3: absolutely raved about and loved it. Oh nice, she's a
- 26:35Speaker 3: she's an actress, loves does Broadway, loves plays, loves your career,
- 26:38Speaker 3: and went and saw you and wanted to and said, Ship,
- 26:42Speaker 3: that is some daunting stuff to take, you know, stand
- 26:45Speaker 3: up comedy on. And and so you're gonna be in
- 26:48Speaker 3: San Antonio and I mean, how has that been, like,
- 26:51Speaker 3: not transitioning but really taking this on? And and I
- 26:55Speaker 3: mean it's hard as ship, Like watching the grind of comedy.
- 26:58Speaker 4: It feels like such an up and down roller coaster.
- 27:01Speaker 8: Yeah, it's for me because I you know, well, first
- 27:05Speaker 8: of all, I don't even know. Maybe you can put
- 27:07Speaker 8: the website up or help kids to get to the
- 27:09Speaker 8: LOL Comedy Club in in San Antonio this weekend. We
- 27:15Speaker 8: have eleven more tickets and it's up to you guys
- 27:17Speaker 8: to sell them.
- 27:19Speaker 2: And pivot, who says, now, come on, there we.
- 27:21Speaker 8: Go, There we go. That's that's what I'm talking about.
- 27:24Speaker 8: I think it's like anything else, it's just really about
- 27:26Speaker 8: the reps. And you know, I get a couple of
- 27:28Speaker 8: hundred shows in a year under my belt. And even
- 27:31Speaker 8: though I've been on stage since I was a kid,
- 27:33Speaker 8: and my background of Second City in Chicago, and I've
- 27:36Speaker 8: been improvising and and writing and rewriting my whole life
- 27:41Speaker 8: to to get in that that headspace and be able
- 27:44Speaker 8: to For me, the performing isn't the variable. I'm I'm
- 27:48Speaker 8: very comfortable on stage just by home. It's just the
- 27:51Speaker 8: writing is, you know, and and sticking the landing and
- 27:57Speaker 8: going deeper. And what's so great is I can be
- 27:59Speaker 8: watching the Super Bowl and then go, bam, that's a joke.
- 28:02Speaker 8: I'm looking at the Free Palestine protester and he's running
- 28:05Speaker 8: around the field and I'm going, well, this guy's got
- 28:08Speaker 8: more yards in the entire Kansas City Chiefs, And I'm
- 28:12Speaker 8: going I gotta put that on stage tonight.
- 28:16Speaker 2: You know, skating legs.
- 28:18Speaker 4: You look at this running a hot road out there.
- 28:21Speaker 8: Listen, this is what happens when you get older.
- 28:22Speaker 9: Man.
- 28:23Speaker 8: You gotta do it fast, like this is how you
- 28:25Speaker 8: know you're getting older. I used to look at a
- 28:26Speaker 8: woman in a short skirt and I'd be like, goddamn,
- 28:28Speaker 8: she's hot, And now I'm like, I wonder if she's cold.
- 28:34Speaker 8: This is the type of polarity that you can expect
- 28:37Speaker 8: at the LOL.
- 28:39Speaker 4: At the LOL in San Antonio.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Look Jeremy be and Cleveland at the Agora March twentieth,
- 28:46Speaker 1: Pittsburgh the buy In Theater March twenty first, So there's
- 28:48Speaker 1: definitely opportunity to see.
- 28:49Speaker 8: Oh that's right, I'm going to Pittsburgh. That's a big
- 28:52Speaker 8: hockey town. Tell me about Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Tell him
- 28:59Speaker 8: do your job, bitch.
- 29:04Speaker 1: How about the commercial and we looked it up when
- 29:06Speaker 1: you had that Detroit Sucks commercial which was in honor
- 29:09Speaker 1: of the Chicago Blackhawks. Mean if fond memories of going
- 29:11Speaker 1: to Chicago Stadium, greatest anthem ever Chris Chellius, who I've
- 29:14Speaker 1: been accused of looking like a little bit talk to me.
- 29:17Speaker 8: Uh well, Chris is the best and he was the
- 29:20Speaker 8: first like hockey player I ever met. Really to be
- 29:23Speaker 8: honest with you, and I because I grew up in
- 29:25Speaker 8: Chicago and I would you know, we were in the theater.
- 29:27Speaker 8: We had a theater company, and we got Chris to
- 29:30Speaker 8: his first play. He came and saw John Cusack directed
- 29:33Speaker 8: me and in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 29:37Speaker 8: And it was just imagine, like I'm playing a character
- 29:40Speaker 8: that's you know, tripping on five sheets of high power
- 29:43Speaker 8: blatter acid and just imagine that film on stage or.
- 29:48Speaker 2: That you're playing Hunter s Thompson.
- 29:51Speaker 8: No, Billy Cusack. His brother was like, I was playing
- 29:54Speaker 8: Hector Isida Costa, his attorney, his Samoan attorney. And you know,
- 30:00Speaker 8: Chris is like, oh, well, you guys did a real
- 30:02Speaker 8: nice job. Like he uh he thought.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Waspsis of the movie was really good. It's interesting.
- 30:09Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, oh okay, no, but but you know he
- 30:13Speaker 8: but for you have to understand, this is a play
- 30:16Speaker 8: where we were losing our minds. Like it was just madness.
- 30:20Speaker 8: It was really fun. And so you know he started,
- 30:24Speaker 8: you know, in the Belly of the Beast. But I
- 30:26Speaker 8: used to go and watch Chris play and you know,
- 30:28Speaker 8: you as you guys know, you know, there was no
- 30:31Speaker 8: one tougher than that guy. I remember one night he
- 30:34Speaker 8: got into a fight and I you know, Chris is
- 30:36Speaker 8: so good that he could make the game make sense
- 30:39Speaker 8: to me, and the way that you know, he was
- 30:41Speaker 8: just a very he was really solid from what he
- 30:45Speaker 8: played twenty years. I don't know what he played his family.
- 30:48Speaker 2: He just didn't like his wife and kids.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I tell you that's what happened.
- 30:55Speaker 2: In the HL. I don't care. Chicago, sure.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Oh he had a couple of East Coast its his
- 31:01Speaker 3: Him riding the bike in the sauna is the most
- 31:03Speaker 3: legendary thing.
- 31:04Speaker 4: That's how did it for?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Sola rode the bike in the sauna every morning after
- 31:07Speaker 3: twenty beers amazing stuff.
- 31:10Speaker 8: Yeah, I you know what, I bought his house on
- 31:12Speaker 8: Malibu Road and I moved into it. It's the closest
- 31:15Speaker 8: I'll ever get to the Stanley Cup. Good night everyone.
- 31:18Speaker 8: It's true. I swear to God I did. I'm not
- 31:20Speaker 8: making that up.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Do you have any like memorable first time seeing the
- 31:24Speaker 3: Chicago Blackhawks or even like a good memory of attending
- 31:28Speaker 3: a game there or any Chicago sports for that matter.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Being a Chicago boy.
- 31:33Speaker 8: Uh, the games were just it was the Chicago fans
- 31:40Speaker 8: show up, as you know to this day, they're really present.
- 31:44Speaker 8: They love the game, they know the game. You know,
- 31:47Speaker 8: you've got pearl jam blasting, you know, and and the
- 31:52Speaker 8: stadium rocks was the old stadium or the new one.
- 31:56Speaker 8: And We've had a lot of great teams over the years.
- 32:00Speaker 8: So I've loved it. And you know, the Detroit Sucks
- 32:03Speaker 8: commercial was an honor for me. You know, that was
- 32:06Speaker 8: so fun.
- 32:07Speaker 2: It's great.
- 32:11Speaker 8: But look at I I loved Detroit, you know, That's
- 32:14Speaker 8: what It's very similar to Chicago, Like hard working and
- 32:17Speaker 8: they're they're an underdog and they're making a comeback. They're
- 32:20Speaker 8: crushing the game. But yeah, I uh, Chilli's chilly. I
- 32:28Speaker 8: actually have that sauna and I kept the bike that
- 32:30Speaker 8: he had in there, and I drank a lot of
- 32:34Speaker 8: bud Lights and just sit on the bike in honor
- 32:37Speaker 8: of him.
- 32:39Speaker 4: It's worns for what's for you?
- 32:43Speaker 1: Yeah, once again, you can see Jeremy payment this weekend
- 32:46Speaker 1: in San Antonio. Who's coming up in Cleveland March twentieth.
- 32:49Speaker 1: In Pittsburgh March twenty first at the Bay in Theater.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Earlier roles, You're in Heat, one of the great films
- 32:54Speaker 1: of all time. You got to share a scene with
- 32:55Speaker 1: Bob Denero be directed by Michael Man.
- 32:57Speaker 2: What was that like?
- 32:59Speaker 8: It was incredible? You have to understand. I did forty
- 33:02Speaker 8: movies before Entourage, and that was one of them. And
- 33:04Speaker 8: you sit in the in the waiting room, you know,
- 33:06Speaker 8: preparing to do your role, and you know, I'm playing
- 33:09Speaker 8: doctor Bob and I have almost no lines, but I'm
- 33:11Speaker 8: gonna hang in there. And so it's really, to be
- 33:14Speaker 8: honest with you, it's about who can hold on and
- 33:17Speaker 8: not crack, because they'll make you wait some times one hour,
- 33:21Speaker 8: two hours, three hours. And I saw an actor crack
- 33:25Speaker 8: and lose his mind and he threw the casting assistant
- 33:29Speaker 8: up against the wall and at that moment they walked
- 33:32Speaker 8: out and they were ready, and so it was just crazy,
- 33:35Speaker 8: you know. And so I just knew if I hung it,
- 33:37Speaker 8: if you hang in there, you get to go toe
- 33:39Speaker 8: to toe with de Niro, and I did. And all
- 33:41Speaker 8: the roles that I did Rush Hour to or whatever,
- 33:44Speaker 8: my lines were like may I help you? And then
- 33:46Speaker 8: so I bring So I'm like, let's put a mocha China,
- 33:50Speaker 8: Let's put a dead animal out of you. Butter cream,
- 33:52Speaker 8: butter cream, cracked skin, butter cream, what's splow the waste
- 33:55Speaker 8: mystery meat?
- 33:57Speaker 1: You know, and jet but heat is great. You're pushing
- 33:59Speaker 1: back against de Niro. He's like, take off your shirt,
- 34:01Speaker 1: like like my daughter gave me the shirt.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Take off your shirt.
- 34:03Speaker 8: Yeah that that none of that scripted. But when you
- 34:06Speaker 8: I just keep talking. I keep talking. And that's how
- 34:09Speaker 8: I you know, just kind of make you know, take
- 34:12Speaker 8: a scrap and make a meal out of it and
- 34:14Speaker 8: explore and heighten. And they're usually angry at me on
- 34:17Speaker 8: the day, but then you know, it makes it in
- 34:19Speaker 8: the film, and you know, everybody wins. I just wanted
- 34:22Speaker 8: to be ready and really like and I wanted to
- 34:25Speaker 8: see what it was like to improvise with de Niro.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Jeremy Piven has been incredible.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Make sure you watch his performance in the performance and
- 34:31Speaker 1: also Stephens stand up san Antonio this week is also
- 34:34Speaker 1: going to be in many places, as I mentioned, Pittsburgh
- 34:37Speaker 1: coming up momentarily. And by the way, JD, you and
- 34:39Speaker 1: I both in Jersey. I asked, is Jeremy coming to Jersey?
- 34:42Speaker 2: He is not. Is he coming to New York? He
- 34:44Speaker 2: is not. But all but in New York.
- 34:45Speaker 1: So maybe me and JD take a the Trojan we
- 34:47Speaker 1: go check out Jeremy Piven do some stand up.
- 34:49Speaker 8: I mean, why why am I not going to New York.
- 34:52Speaker 8: I mean, what's so interesting? I mean, my booker has
- 34:57Speaker 8: me here at the rusty fucking chuckle Bucket in a
- 35:00Speaker 8: goddamn mall next to the fucking daven Busters, you know.
- 35:05Speaker 8: And I'm not going to New York where all my
- 35:07Speaker 8: fans are all the Jews back them in. That's good thinking.
- 35:12Speaker 8: Let's send them to des Moines, Iowa and play fucking
- 35:16Speaker 8: behind a dumpster with a fucking hairnet on. How about that?
- 35:20Speaker 4: Well, you know what they say, if you can play
- 35:22Speaker 4: des Moines, you can play anywhere.
- 35:24Speaker 8: Well, I don't want to play du Moines. How about that?
- 35:33Speaker 2: This is a lot, right. I can't wait to see
- 35:35Speaker 2: you man.
- 35:37Speaker 8: You should be going. I should be playing the Beacon Theater.
- 35:40Speaker 8: You know what I mean? I should be playing you know,
- 35:41Speaker 8: let's go. What are we doing? Were achieving?
- 35:46Speaker 4: Live show? Unscripted?
- 35:48Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 35:49Speaker 4: Man, with Jeremy Piven at the Beacon Theater?
- 35:51Speaker 8: How great would that be?
- 35:52Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 35:53Speaker 8: Oh you do? You do kind of look like Shelley.
- 35:56Speaker 8: Well listen, thank you guys. I appreciate it. I'll see
- 35:59Speaker 8: you on the next one.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you so much.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 36:04Speaker 8: Can you pencil me in for the twelfth of Never?
- 36:12Speaker 4: This is great?
- 36:12Speaker 1: Man, I'll see you guys soon, all right, Cinophon sixty
- 36:25Speaker 1: Apparently Tao, I mean, just has got better things to do.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Same with JD.
- 36:29Speaker 1: These guys will not watch The Brutalist. I've been from
- 36:31Speaker 1: them weeks and weeks. I guess I'll post put it
- 36:33Speaker 1: one more week. What the hell, no problem. Next week
- 36:35Speaker 1: was going to be Cinophon sixty Oscar Preview edition because
- 36:38Speaker 1: next we'll come at you the twenty six. The Oscars
- 36:40Speaker 1: is March second, So what the hell, We'll postpone The
- 36:42Speaker 1: Brutalist one more week to at.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Least jackasses actually watched the movie.
- 36:46Speaker 1: But we still have some guy Piers conversation because he's
- 36:48Speaker 1: making the rounds. He's nominated for Best Supporting Actor, deservedly,
- 36:51Speaker 1: so I've sat on record that's one of the best
- 36:53Speaker 1: nominations of the year. He's up for Best Sporting Actor,
- 36:55Speaker 1: first ever Oscar nomination. But JD's making news. He's on
- 36:59Speaker 1: which is one of my favorite podcasts, The Hard Reporter
- 37:01Speaker 1: podcast hosted by Scott Finberg. I just listened to great
- 37:04Speaker 1: director James Mangold. I know, tell Loves and walked the
- 37:07Speaker 1: line cop Land Heavy great stories, and he's talking, of course,
- 37:10Speaker 1: and he's nominated for a complete no that.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Bop Ylla movie.
- 37:13Speaker 1: But the next podcast that popped up from a Man
- 37:16Speaker 1: Feinberg was Guy Pierce The Brutalist, And before I had
- 37:18Speaker 1: even started listening to it, today, crushing the elliptical here
- 37:22Speaker 1: at the Sheraton Hotel, ready to get my swerve on
- 37:25Speaker 1: here at the Universal Studios, JD fires up the clip
- 37:29Speaker 1: which has been making the rounds, excerpted from this interview
- 37:32Speaker 1: with Scott, and I want to hear it in its
- 37:34Speaker 1: all entirety.
- 37:35Speaker 10: I did that thing that I think a lot of
- 37:38Speaker 10: a lot of people do. I don't want to use
- 37:39Speaker 10: the word victim, because I, even though I probably was
- 37:42Speaker 10: a victim to a degree, I was certainly not a
- 37:45Speaker 10: victim by any means to the extent that other people
- 37:49Speaker 10: have been to sexual predators. But I did that thing
- 37:53Speaker 10: that you do where you brush it off and go,
- 37:56Speaker 10: oh no, that's nothing. Oh no, no, that's nothing. And
- 38:00Speaker 10: I did that for you know, five months, and really
- 38:04Speaker 10: sort of you know, I was scared of Kevin because
- 38:08Speaker 10: he was quite he's quite an aggressive man and quite
- 38:11Speaker 10: extremely charming and brilliant at what he does, and you know,
- 38:15Speaker 10: impress really impressive, et cetera.
- 38:16Speaker 8: So he he you know, he holds a room remarkably.
- 38:20Speaker 10: But I was young and you know, susceptible, and he
- 38:24Speaker 10: targeted me, no question.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Now he makes it clear.
- 38:27Speaker 1: He says he didn't you know, harashm didn't assault me
- 38:30Speaker 1: the way other people.
- 38:31Speaker 2: But he said that he was sexually harassed by him.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Hollywood monster, two time offscording scum back Kevin Spacey is
- 38:38Speaker 1: how he's been referred to, and Pierce is empathizing with
- 38:40Speaker 1: Spacey's victims.
- 38:41Speaker 2: But more to that, JD.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Before I touched to the baton space He's come a
- 38:44Speaker 1: fire and back, Hey, offside, I didn't know anything wrong.
- 38:47Speaker 2: You got a problem, Come take up with me. Stop
- 38:50Speaker 2: bespirching me. I've been acquitted.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Kevin Spacey was acquitted of sexually assaultly nine people.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Where are you on Pierce versus Spacey?
- 38:57Speaker 3: Well, didn't a couple of those people mysteriously vanish that
- 39:03Speaker 3: had sued him. I mean, listen, I'm team guy Pierce.
- 39:07Speaker 3: I mean it's come out that it's come out many
- 39:11Speaker 3: times that Kevin Spacey's a douchebag and and is very
- 39:15Speaker 3: handsy and and uh yeah, I mean he he was
- 39:19Speaker 3: at the Florida Panthers game. When he did the Spacey
- 39:22Speaker 3: and space and ended up going out to the bar
- 39:24Speaker 3: with the guys after the game. And I won't name
- 39:26Speaker 3: the names of the guys, but he was handsy with
- 39:28Speaker 3: some of the guys at the bar. Yeah, and I'm
- 39:32Speaker 3: not saying that just to say it. It's and I
- 39:34Speaker 3: won't say any guys. And hey, listen, might they might
- 39:37Speaker 3: have just been and just a preface this, they might
- 39:39Speaker 3: have just been, you know, they might just been hanging out.
- 39:42Speaker 3: And it was fun banter back and forth, and it
- 39:44Speaker 3: was speak he'll grab ass little locker room jive. But
- 39:47Speaker 3: that's what I heard. So and Guy Pierce coming out
- 39:50Speaker 3: and getting choked up. And but now that everything's come
- 39:52Speaker 3: out and he found he probably didn't know about all
- 39:54Speaker 3: these other victims and then finds out, so now he
- 39:57Speaker 3: gets choked up because he probably stayed silent and thought
- 40:00Speaker 3: he was alone. And then he has all these people
- 40:01Speaker 3: he can kind of, you know, eve with in a
- 40:05Speaker 3: sense and mourn with, because that's up. That is the
- 40:07Speaker 3: traumatic thing that happened. So I'm team Guy Pearson. The
- 40:10Speaker 3: fact that Kevin Spacey came on and did a video
- 40:14Speaker 3: is come on, man, with being like, don't be the
- 40:17Speaker 3: victim or whatever he was saying, like, come on, that's
- 40:19Speaker 3: that's insane. Guy's probably scared and he's Oscar nominated scared.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Kayser suss usual suspects, I mean unbelievable in Glenn Garry
- 40:28Speaker 1: Glen Rods.
- 40:28Speaker 2: If you can separate the art from the artist.
- 40:30Speaker 1: He's a great actor, but he's obviously a horrific human being,
- 40:33Speaker 1: even if he.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Says it's all a legend.
- 40:35Speaker 1: David Airs is the opposite of that wonderful guy coming
- 40:38Speaker 1: up after this. That's right, the fifth anniversary of the
- 40:40Speaker 1: ebug one of the great moments ever. And how about
- 40:42Speaker 1: that segue, Kevin Spacey to David Airs. February twenty second
- 40:52Speaker 1: marks the five year anniversary of the night this man
- 40:55Speaker 1: became an overnight legend when he dresses the Carolina Hurricanes
- 40:58Speaker 1: emergency backup goalie against the Toronto Maple Leafs and, at
- 41:01Speaker 1: age forty two, became the oldest goaltender to win his
- 41:05Speaker 1: NHL debut.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Not only did he get the win that night, but
- 41:07Speaker 2: he was named the.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Games first Star and was declared Honore's Citizen of the
- 41:11Speaker 1: State of North Carolina. That appeared on shows like The
- 41:13Speaker 1: Today Show and The Late show with Stephen Colbert. It
- 41:15Speaker 1: is amazing. Welcome David Airs, NHL on the script is great.
- 41:18Speaker 2: To see you man.
- 41:19Speaker 6: Yeah, thanks for having me.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Guys, how has life been for the last five years
- 41:23Speaker 1: since you became a household name if done across the
- 41:26Speaker 1: sports with at least in the hockey.
- 41:27Speaker 6: World, definitely different. I mean five years. It doesn't even
- 41:31Speaker 6: seem like five years, to be honest, but make me
- 41:34Speaker 6: feel old now I'm in forty seven. Now this is ridiculous,
- 41:37Speaker 6: But five years I get.
- 41:40Speaker 11: Almost every single day I crossed the border a lot
- 41:42Speaker 11: for work in the Border guards. Almost every single time
- 41:46Speaker 11: I see one of the guys, he points at me,
- 41:47Speaker 11: He's like, you're that guy, and you get like a
- 41:50Speaker 11: you get a Leafs fan that doesn't really like it,
- 41:52Speaker 11: and or you get guys like I hate the Leaves.
- 41:54Speaker 11: This is great, it's so awesome type of thing. But
- 41:56Speaker 11: it's still like, every every day I come across somebody
- 41:59Speaker 11: who knows the story or you know, once they hear
- 42:02Speaker 11: my name or see me, they recognize me.
- 42:04Speaker 6: So it's still kind of cool. But yeah, five years
- 42:06Speaker 6: long time.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Doesn't that just show how bad Leaves fans are that
- 42:10Speaker 3: they would just be mad at you.
- 42:12Speaker 11: You know what, I've had some some pretty uh some
- 42:15Speaker 11: angry ones.
- 42:16Speaker 6: It's some really cool ones.
- 42:17Speaker 11: I mean there's uh, there's some there's some mangerins where
- 42:20Speaker 11: it's like, I can't believe you did that. You owe
- 42:22Speaker 11: me a TV. I broke my TV. A couple of
- 42:24Speaker 11: my buddies actually say that all the time. I broke
- 42:27Speaker 11: my TV, you owe me, you owe me a new one.
- 42:29Speaker 11: And I'm like, man, I'm just trying to do my
- 42:31Speaker 11: job there, trying to survive, and those got those elite
- 42:34Speaker 11: shooters on you. You only want to do is survive
- 42:36Speaker 11: out there and not look like an idiot.
- 42:37Speaker 3: So I mean you, I mean you didn't like how
- 42:41Speaker 3: was it take us through that game a little bit?
- 42:42Speaker 3: I know you've probably talked about it at nausea, but
- 42:44Speaker 3: it's always fun to bring it up. And you know,
- 42:46Speaker 3: your friends right now that said they broke their TV.
- 42:50Speaker 3: I hope you don't talk to him anymore because that's
- 42:52Speaker 3: just that's awful. But how how was it in the game,
- 42:54Speaker 3: And like, you know, talk about the lead up to
- 42:57Speaker 3: it and and remind like the fans, the new listeners
- 43:00Speaker 3: here that that are listening to our show just about
- 43:03Speaker 3: that whole day and and how everything came to be.
- 43:06Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean a lot of kind of the way
- 43:08Speaker 11: it works for me is everyone's like you're the zamboni guy,
- 43:10Speaker 11: Like they dragged me off the zamboni and threw me
- 43:12Speaker 11: a net, And it was completely opposite. I mean, to
- 43:15Speaker 11: be the emergency goalie, you have to have, you know,
- 43:17Speaker 11: some sort of a contract with the NHL to be
- 43:20Speaker 11: the emerency goalie in that building. And I was one
- 43:22Speaker 11: of a couple. But you know, that was my day
- 43:24Speaker 11: and it was scheduled, so I already knew that I
- 43:28Speaker 11: was going in that day, and you know, did my
- 43:30Speaker 11: workouts and stuff like that during the day, and you
- 43:32Speaker 11: kind of just put your gear in the truck and
- 43:34Speaker 11: you go down to the to the rink and.
- 43:36Speaker 6: You sit there in the stands.
- 43:37Speaker 11: Every time I went there, I think I did I
- 43:40Speaker 11: don't know, over one hundred games in total over three years,
- 43:44Speaker 11: and I did. I would just stand in the same spot,
- 43:47Speaker 11: section three seventeen in the standing room section. I would
- 43:49Speaker 11: just stand there, and that was my spot for the
- 43:51Speaker 11: whole time I was there. But I mean, you just
- 43:54Speaker 11: go to the rink as if you're just gonna go
- 43:56Speaker 11: watch a game.
- 43:57Speaker 6: You don't ever think that you're going in And.
- 43:59Speaker 11: That's the third time that year actually that I had
- 44:01Speaker 11: to get dressed. So I got dressed for tru all
- 44:04Speaker 11: before that in Detroit, kind of close to the beginning
- 44:06Speaker 11: of the year. So you just go there and get
- 44:08Speaker 11: half your stuff on and you watch the game.
- 44:10Speaker 6: And you go home.
- 44:10Speaker 11: So I figured that's just another day. It's just what's
- 44:13Speaker 11: going to happen, right, And uh, well, I ends up
- 44:16Speaker 11: going in the game, and it was a whole different
- 44:17Speaker 11: day than I actually expected it to be, So I
- 44:19Speaker 11: can't complain.
- 44:21Speaker 2: And go ahead.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Thanks you, you famously lan in a couple of quick
- 44:25Speaker 1: goals against Toronto. Things turned out okay. But how did
- 44:28Speaker 1: you steady yourself mentally?
- 44:31Speaker 11: Yeah, I thought it was going I thought I was
- 44:32Speaker 11: going down hard after two on two, like that's not
- 44:36Speaker 11: I looked up and I'm like, this is gonna be bad,
- 44:38Speaker 11: Like this isn't good at all. I mean, lucky, I know,
- 44:41Speaker 11: I know a lot of the guys in the least
- 44:42Speaker 11: and then I'm sure they kind of took it easy
- 44:44Speaker 11: on you when they had the chance to rip one
- 44:46Speaker 11: on me, which I'm thankful for.
- 44:50Speaker 6: You know, being on the ice of them every day.
- 44:51Speaker 11: They light me up all the time, so I mean,
- 44:53Speaker 11: thank thankfully they didn't.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Make me look like an idiot on national TV. But uh,
- 44:58Speaker 6: you know, you just kind of it's one.
- 45:00Speaker 11: Of those things you just kind of go into that
- 45:02Speaker 11: game and your goal is what you've done your whole life,
- 45:05Speaker 11: and you let it in two goals, and the guys
- 45:06Speaker 11: come up to me and say, you know what, we
- 45:08Speaker 11: don't care if you let in ten. This is your
- 45:10Speaker 11: chance to be on the ice with NHL guys. Enjoy it,
- 45:13Speaker 11: have fun with it, right. And I got to the
- 45:15Speaker 11: intermission with with James Rymer came and sat beside me,
- 45:19Speaker 11: and he was kind of half dressed still because they
- 45:21Speaker 11: weren't sure how bad I was going to be, and
- 45:22Speaker 11: he was actually maybe just gonna go back in and
- 45:25Speaker 11: try it.
- 45:25Speaker 6: Even though he had a knee injury. But he sat
- 45:27Speaker 6: with me and he's like, look, this is what you do.
- 45:30Speaker 6: You're a goalie. You stop pucks. Just try and get
- 45:32Speaker 6: rid of everything else around you and just make some.
- 45:35Speaker 11: Saves out they're and have fun with it, right. I
- 45:36Speaker 11: mean easy for him to say. The guy's got almost
- 45:39Speaker 11: I don't know how many games he's got in the NHL,
- 45:41Speaker 11: in so many years, But that actually helped really calm
- 45:44Speaker 11: me down for him sitting with me and telling me,
- 45:46Speaker 11: you know, just be yourself.
- 45:47Speaker 6: How fun play the game. That's what calmed me down
- 45:49Speaker 6: for the third period.
- 45:52Speaker 3: That's incredible. I mean, you become instantly a part of
- 45:54Speaker 3: the team, and that's so cool that he did that. Now, afterwards,
- 45:58Speaker 3: in the flurry of doing all the TV shows and
- 46:03Speaker 3: getting people reaching out out to you, was there anything
- 46:05Speaker 3: that was really like really special to you, like one
- 46:07Speaker 3: of the shows you went on or one of the
- 46:09Speaker 3: appearances you made.
- 46:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I think the New York trip that I did.
- 46:14Speaker 11: It was on the Monday, I think I did I
- 46:16Speaker 11: don't know, twenty seven or twenty five interviews in that morning,
- 46:19Speaker 11: and we were supposed to be done by I think
- 46:21Speaker 11: two thirty and then fly out to Carolina that night.
- 46:25Speaker 11: And I didn't realize how big the Today Show and
- 46:27Speaker 11: how many people watch the Today Show.
- 46:29Speaker 6: So I was on there a lot. It was at
- 46:33Speaker 6: the time. The PR guy for Carolina. He came with me,
- 46:35Speaker 6: and he.
- 46:36Speaker 11: Just wanted to make sure, you know, I wasn't saying
- 46:37Speaker 11: anything I shouldn't say, or you know, he just kind
- 46:40Speaker 11: of lead me in the right direction.
- 46:41Speaker 6: He was awesome.
- 46:43Speaker 11: But he's like, do you realize how many people watch
- 46:45Speaker 11: the Today Show? And I was like, no, man, I'm Canadian.
- 46:47Speaker 11: I don't necessarily watch the Today Show. And so he
- 46:51Speaker 11: was showing me all the kind of viewers and whatnot,
- 46:54Speaker 11: and we ended up going to do that one I
- 46:58Speaker 11: think it was a Fox Sports And then at the
- 47:00Speaker 11: end of the day we were supposed to leave, we
- 47:03Speaker 11: got a call from the Stephen C.
- 47:04Speaker 6: Bear Show. They just said, Hey, I heard you're in town.
- 47:07Speaker 6: You want to come over and do.
- 47:08Speaker 11: Like a little skit with us, and let's do it
- 47:11Speaker 11: like I that'd be awesome.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Put to your point, David, do you think the current
- 47:14Speaker 1: e buke system is the best option for the NHL
- 47:17Speaker 1: when goalies get hurt?
- 47:19Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 47:19Speaker 11: I mean I know now that a lot of the
- 47:21Speaker 11: teams have practice goalies. When I was with the with
- 47:24Speaker 11: the Marleys and the Least for that year, I did
- 47:27Speaker 11: a lot of the practices that kind of you know,
- 47:28Speaker 11: it's a lot of leaf practices, a ton of the
- 47:30Speaker 11: mar Lea's practice. I know now they've got two guys
- 47:33Speaker 11: or two or three guys that do the kind of
- 47:35Speaker 11: the job I was doing over those all those seasons, and.
- 47:38Speaker 6: It makes sense because it wears you out. It's it's tough.
- 47:41Speaker 11: But the emergency goalies, I think the teams do a
- 47:44Speaker 11: good job kind of scouting the goalies that they want
- 47:47Speaker 11: to do put that position. A lot of them university
- 47:49Speaker 11: kids that are that are good, you know, to have
- 47:53Speaker 11: an extra goalie on the payroll. And as a goalie,
- 47:56Speaker 11: what do you do if you don't play? I mean,
- 47:58Speaker 11: you go out there any practice all the time, but
- 48:00Speaker 11: for some reason you get thrown in as an emergency
- 48:02Speaker 11: goalie and that's your only job is to practice with
- 48:04Speaker 11: the team.
- 48:06Speaker 6: It's tough.
- 48:07Speaker 11: I mean, it's gonna be nerve wracking no matter what,
- 48:09Speaker 11: no matter whether you you know you're with the team
- 48:11Speaker 11: or not, or you like me, I was playing, you know,
- 48:14Speaker 11: with other guys. I was playing in a senior hockey league.
- 48:17Speaker 6: And stuff like that.
- 48:17Speaker 11: So I was getting some some reps and some games
- 48:19Speaker 11: and under my belt. But it doesn't matter. You're gonna
- 48:22Speaker 11: still be nervous no matter what. And I mean no
- 48:25Speaker 11: other sport has it. Nobody else is.
- 48:26Speaker 6: You can bring a pitcher in or a quarterback in,
- 48:30Speaker 6: and a.
- 48:30Speaker 11: Goal is a tough position mentally, you know, that's the
- 48:33Speaker 11: part that's not the physical actual part of the game
- 48:36Speaker 11: that I was worried about. It was the mental part
- 48:38Speaker 11: of it. Is like, I don't want to look like
- 48:40Speaker 11: an idiot out here and make myself look bad and
- 48:43Speaker 11: make the Leafs who chose me to be in that
- 48:45Speaker 11: role make them look bad and all that kind of stuff.
- 48:48Speaker 11: So I just wanted to go out there and do
- 48:49Speaker 11: my thing, but mentally, it's you got to keep it together.
- 48:53Speaker 1: February twenty second, the five year anniversary of Daviers in
- 48:56Speaker 1: the NHL and the Ebug System.
- 48:58Speaker 2: I think you should get a hold of Jimmy Kimmel.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Gay, I've already done Colbert five anniversary, Jimmy, how about
- 49:02Speaker 1: I come on your show?
- 49:03Speaker 2: Get it done?
- 49:04Speaker 6: That would be awesome.
- 49:05Speaker 11: I mean, those talk shows are great, those guys are hilarious.
- 49:09Speaker 11: I mean, there's a lot of, you know, cool people
- 49:12Speaker 11: that I would still love to meet. But I mean
- 49:13Speaker 11: we're doing a few a few things. I mean, now
- 49:16Speaker 11: that's five years kind of people are remembering it, so
- 49:18Speaker 11: I'm it got a few wheels turning, So we're doing
- 49:21Speaker 11: a few fun things.
- 49:23Speaker 6: So I'm just kind of be cool to bring it.
- 49:25Speaker 11: Back, uh, bring it back around and kind of everyone
- 49:28Speaker 11: you know it has a good story right now that
- 49:29Speaker 11: you know, the world kind of divides itself a little.
- 49:32Speaker 6: Bit, So it would be a good idea to have
- 49:35Speaker 6: some more feel good stories out there.
- 49:37Speaker 11: And if you have to kind of go back and
- 49:39Speaker 11: reminisce on that one, and hopefully no one breaks TV's
- 49:42Speaker 11: this time, but they.
- 49:43Speaker 6: Would be it'd be kind of cool. Yeah, it'd be
- 49:46Speaker 6: kind of cool.
- 49:46Speaker 4: Just to those guys.
- 49:48Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right, all right, And so.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Maybe it's like a parting shot. You're an edging the script.
- 49:58Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 49:58Speaker 2: What's good to David Airs, who's a wonderful guy.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Awesome interview, And Matt Doug Ruis is a former colleague
- 50:02Speaker 1: of mind from MLB Network. I'm sure Jad saw I'm
- 50:04Speaker 1: in the hall but once in a while high heat.
- 50:05Speaker 1: But that's off, which is deserved because he had an
- 50:08Speaker 1: awful take on the four Nations I mentioned earlier.
- 50:11Speaker 2: It's been resounding pajuries.
- 50:12Speaker 1: I don't understand anyone's not a hockey fan not liking this,
- 50:15Speaker 1: You're not a sports fan not liking this, But Mad
- 50:17Speaker 1: Doug himself revealed that he said, I'm not a hockey officionado,
- 50:20Speaker 1: but I'm a sports aficionado.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 50:22Speaker 1: So that's like, I don't know hockey, let's go, I said,
- 50:24Speaker 1: While I'm not much of a horse racing guy, but
- 50:26Speaker 1: i know sports, I'm like, okay, go ahead, yeah and
- 50:28Speaker 1: all that works.
- 50:29Speaker 2: But okay, So he.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Said basically that Candy was saying game was a disappointment
- 50:33Speaker 1: because he said the fights were premeditated and not right,
- 50:36Speaker 1: and he also said the third period was lame because
- 50:39Speaker 1: Cana didn't have many scoring chances.
- 50:41Speaker 2: Jadie, that's a terrible take. That was a great game.
- 50:44Speaker 3: You know, you mentioned Mad Doug before in the show
- 50:46Speaker 3: and you heard me say loser. I don't mean I
- 50:48Speaker 3: don't know him personally, he's a loser take, because yes,
- 50:51Speaker 3: I I personally. It's such a dis sorry, disrespectful shot
- 50:56Speaker 3: at guys that make their living doing this.
- 50:58Speaker 4: Again, it is part of our sport, it's part of
- 51:01Speaker 4: our culture. It's nothing.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Hey, you want to have your take, you don't like
- 51:04Speaker 3: the game, But to say these guys premeditated and do
- 51:07Speaker 3: WWE stuff, which again I have a respect for WDV
- 51:10Speaker 3: because they're athletic. They have to put their bodies on
- 51:13Speaker 3: the line. To say that and compare that to something
- 51:16Speaker 3: scripted is absolutely disgusting. To say about any athlete in hockey,
- 51:20Speaker 3: because I've played with a lot of those guys. I
- 51:23Speaker 3: know a lot of those guys. I've been a guy
- 51:25Speaker 3: that's fought. Not well, but I've been a guy that's fought,
- 51:28Speaker 3: and it is a scary thing fighting on skates, your
- 51:31Speaker 3: helmet off. I've hit my head on the ice from
- 51:33Speaker 3: fighting in something that somebody may have been considered premeditated,
- 51:38Speaker 3: which I think is disgusting to say. There's guys that
- 51:40Speaker 3: are you know, have ct from fighting their whole careers
- 51:44Speaker 3: and protecting their teammates, making a living for their families.
- 51:47Speaker 3: So for him to say that is absolutely awful. It's
- 51:50Speaker 3: so stupid of him to say. I was sitting next
- 51:52Speaker 3: to Stuve Grimson, who had a hell of a career
- 51:54Speaker 3: over seven games in the NHL, the grim Reaper, one
- 51:57Speaker 3: of the toughest guys, super smart man, very well educated,
- 52:00Speaker 3: got his law degree, fantastic human being, and we're talking
- 52:04Speaker 3: about Uh. It was Ryan Reeves fighting Matthew Olivier. I'm
- 52:09Speaker 3: it was one of those fights where it was very big,
- 52:11Speaker 3: big stage in Toronto, and you know, I turned and
- 52:15Speaker 3: we came off fair, and I said, you know, what
- 52:16Speaker 3: do you think of that, and I said, oh man,
- 52:17Speaker 3: I love these like stage fights between the heavyweights. I
- 52:20Speaker 3: think it's really cool. And he just stops me dead
- 52:22Speaker 3: on air. He goes, would you say, excuse me? Staged? Staged?
- 52:26Speaker 3: He goes, you think that stage? I said, no, I
- 52:27Speaker 3: didn't mean it like that. I just meant, like these
- 52:30Speaker 3: two guys that are like, hey, are we going to fight?
- 52:31Speaker 3: Are you down to fight? It's for our team, it's
- 52:33Speaker 3: for our pride, it's to get the boys going. And
- 52:36Speaker 3: I said, no, that's what I meant. And he was like, Okay,
- 52:38Speaker 3: make sure you don't say that because if he's like
- 52:40Speaker 3: anybody that says that, like does not understand what this
- 52:43Speaker 3: is and what these guys they put their lives on
- 52:45Speaker 3: the line and they put their health on the line.
- 52:47Speaker 3: So but I just think it's it's not a good taste. Listen,
- 52:51Speaker 3: sometimes we do as analysts, and he's an aficionado of sport,
- 52:56Speaker 3: I guess minus hockey. But then there's like just saying
- 53:01Speaker 3: something inflammatory. To say something inflammatory. Also, he doesn't understand
- 53:05Speaker 3: hockey because that game was a defensive masterclass and that
- 53:09Speaker 3: is something that hasn't been seen. That was John Tortorella
- 53:12Speaker 3: putting together a perfect game plan that stymied Canada. It
- 53:15Speaker 3: was a very physical hockey game. A lot of guys
- 53:18Speaker 3: got injured from that. Couple guys at surgery from that game.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Charlie McAvoy, so to say that guy guys cared so
- 53:25Speaker 3: much to play that game and played it well, and
- 53:27Speaker 3: it was a great, great hockey game.
- 53:29Speaker 4: It had a little bit of everything.
- 53:30Speaker 3: Had some offense, had defense, had goaltending, had fighting.
- 53:35Speaker 4: So yeah for him, and it was all for country.
- 53:37Speaker 4: I just think it was.
- 53:38Speaker 3: It was just an It was an awful, awful take
- 53:40Speaker 3: and just to say something, to say something to get
- 53:42Speaker 3: clicks is is stupid.
- 53:45Speaker 1: It had defense, it had goaltending, it had fights. And
- 53:47Speaker 1: we're hoping to have mad Dog Russo on NHL's Unscripted
- 53:50Speaker 1: in the weeks to come.
- 53:51Speaker 4: So yeah, I'd love to talk to him about it.
- 53:53Speaker 2: I agree, he's the type, doesn't look like he wants
- 53:55Speaker 2: to back up for an arguments.
- 53:56Speaker 4: That's great. No, he's probably gonna argue.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Let's go. I look forward to it, mad Dog. The
- 54:00Speaker 2: floor is yours, love to I love most of it.
- 54:04Speaker 4: Take I'll press this saying I like a lot of
- 54:06Speaker 4: us take off.
- 54:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I like them on base He's a baseball ficionado
- 54:11Speaker 3: right on basis, clearly not hockey. But you can't say
- 54:13Speaker 3: sports aficionado but not via hockey. Fishing outa that's a
- 54:17Speaker 3: that just doesn't work. This doesn't work, doesn't make sense.
- 54:23Speaker 4: I'm a movie at fishingado, but I don't watch movies.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Right the movie fish. I just don't watch horror movies.
- 54:27Speaker 1: What does Happen to You? Gets you discut an entire genre.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I can't get them on the substance. Okay, fair enough,
- 54:33Speaker 1: this was a ton of fun. Thanks for checking out Scripted.
- 54:35Speaker 1: That was still twelve in the books.
- 54:36Speaker 4: We'll see you next time.
- 54:37Speaker 9: Yeah.
