- 0:13Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports very daily here on a radio
- 0:16Speaker 1: Folks Done, bringing you the Folks Done and high sports show.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Today's show, I shall be bringing you reports on the
- 0:27Speaker 1: local football and cricket scores. I shall be telling you
- 0:35Speaker 1: about my morning at the five hundredth Folks and Park Run.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I've got a little reminder about the five k your
- 0:46Speaker 1: way at the Dover Park Run, any other local sporty
- 0:52Speaker 1: stuff that comes my way. And if I get time,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I'll tell you about my bank holiday weekend visiting two
- 1:02Speaker 1: food festivals and what a lovely weekend it was, wasn't it? Ah?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Is that the lowest one summer over.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Where.
- 1:18Speaker 1: We've got to keep the summer choos going as long
- 1:20Speaker 1: as we can because rain is expected. So what better
- 1:24Speaker 1: way to start the show with a song from Katrina
- 1:27Speaker 1: and the Waves and walking on sunshine? Katrina are in
- 1:52Speaker 1: the Waves there. I think that's what we were all
- 2:00Speaker 1: doing at the weekend, weren't we. Well, what a lovely
- 2:02Speaker 1: weekend normally bank Oli the what happens? You're right, it
- 2:05Speaker 1: pours down last weekend. It was amazing, wasn't it. It
- 2:09Speaker 1: was just something we all deserve. I think, yes, right?
- 2:13Speaker 1: The only trouble is. The weather does look a little
- 2:15Speaker 1: bit iffy now, doesn't it. It looks like it might change,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and so we've got to make the most of it
- 2:20Speaker 1: with songs like that keeping us in that summery mood. Okay,
- 2:24Speaker 1: so cricket, well, crickets are summer sport and it'd be
- 2:27Speaker 1: a shame to see the end of that. But times
- 2:29Speaker 1: move on, so we go on with some local cricket scores.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Now well, the cricket season is reaching its climax, with
- 2:36Speaker 1: most teams having just two games to go. Folks then
- 2:39Speaker 1: welcome the Broadstairs to the Three Hills. Broadstairs won the
- 2:42Speaker 1: toss and decided to bat, making a respectable two hundred
- 2:45Speaker 1: and twenty five for six. Folkston, who have picked up
- 2:48Speaker 1: a bit of form just lately, then made two hundred
- 2:50Speaker 1: and twenty nine for seven with the consistent rudrew dandeescore
- 2:54Speaker 1: in seventy eight and Shahi Malik ad in fifty one.
- 2:58Speaker 1: This week they have a tough one as they try
- 3:00Speaker 1: to Whitstaball who are second and going for a promotion,
- 3:04Speaker 1: whilst Folkston have moved up to fifth place. I've Green
- 3:08Speaker 1: visited inform top of the table Herne Bay on Saturday
- 3:11Speaker 1: and were beaten by six wickets. The Green won the
- 3:13Speaker 1: toss and decided to back, making one hundred and two
- 3:16Speaker 1: all out. Captain Cameron Emmanuel Burns was the high scorer
- 3:19Speaker 1: with thirty two runs. Herne Bay then sealed the victory
- 3:22Speaker 1: with one hundred and three for four. This week the
- 3:25Speaker 1: Green are at home to third place north Down, whilst
- 3:28Speaker 1: themselves they are in seventh place. Sil Would won the
- 3:32Speaker 1: toss at home and put Witstaball into bat who made
- 3:34Speaker 1: one hundred and five all out, Jack good In taking
- 3:36Speaker 1: five wickets for just twenty four runs. Selard then made
- 3:40Speaker 1: one hundred and eleven for four five. A high scorer
- 3:44Speaker 1: was Ryan Denham with thirty eight and I suspect He
- 3:47Speaker 1: finished the game by hitting a sixth. This week, fifth
- 3:50Speaker 1: place Saltwood are at home to fourth place Worth, so
- 3:53Speaker 1: that be a competitive game. Sipton Park traveled to King's Hill,
- 3:57Speaker 1: lost the toss so Kingsziell batted first, scoring one hundred
- 4:00Speaker 1: and sixty two for nine, Oscar Roberts taking four wickets
- 4:04Speaker 1: for thirty six runs. The Sibs then comfortably made one
- 4:07Speaker 1: hundred and sixty three for three, winning the game by
- 4:10Speaker 1: seven wickets. The highest scorer was Josh Josh Woodward with
- 4:15Speaker 1: sixty six. This week, fifth place Sibs are away to
- 4:19Speaker 1: Tunbridge who are fourth. Well, it seems that most of
- 4:22Speaker 1: our local teams are in relatively safe mid table positions
- 4:25Speaker 1: in their respective leagues. Folks in a fifth, five, Green
- 4:28Speaker 1: of seventh, Swart of fifth and Sipton Parker fourth. However,
- 4:32Speaker 1: there is one battle going on for a promotion in
- 4:35Speaker 1: Division eight Shepherd Section between Hawkins and Hive. Hawkins have
- 4:39Speaker 1: their noses in front in top spot, having won two
- 4:42Speaker 1: games more than Hive.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Now.
- 4:43Speaker 1: The scoring system in the Kent Crickety League is is
- 4:46Speaker 1: a bit complicated. I find it hard to understand, but
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'll try and do my best here. What you do?
- 4:51Speaker 1: You get twenty points for a win, but losing teams
- 4:55Speaker 1: can pick up ten points depending on factors such as
- 4:58Speaker 1: how many wickets have fallen and how close the runs
- 5:01Speaker 1: the losing team are to the winning team. For example,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I've beat Deal Victoria and Barnes Close last week by
- 5:08Speaker 1: just one wicket. I've received a maximum twenty points for
- 5:12Speaker 1: the win, but Deal Victoria they managed to get because
- 5:15Speaker 1: they were so close to beating them. They managed to
- 5:18Speaker 1: get thirteen points for losing so the big game between
- 5:21Speaker 1: Hive and Hawkins, you'll be very competitive. It's this Saturday,
- 5:25Speaker 1: other Hawkins Hawkings only need nine points from their remaining
- 5:29Speaker 1: two games to guarantee the league top spot, but if
- 5:32Speaker 1: they get well beaten in their last two games, it
- 5:35Speaker 1: might not be enough. And just to add to the confusion,
- 5:39Speaker 1: if the game is called off on Saturday due to
- 5:41Speaker 1: bad weather, then which is looking you know it might
- 5:45Speaker 1: be of the weekend. It's just starting to turn, isn't it.
- 5:48Speaker 1: There's a possibility that both teams score ten points, which
- 5:52Speaker 1: means that Hawkins to win the league without bowling the
- 5:54Speaker 1: ball on Saturday. So there, it is very confusing, but
- 5:58Speaker 1: it does for the I'm sure they understand it. It
- 6:01Speaker 1: makes it very competitive. That's you just don't want to
- 6:04Speaker 1: get well beaten. You just want to get beaten and
- 6:07Speaker 1: very sort of very closer to the to the winning team.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So just wait if you The best thing to do,
- 6:15Speaker 1: like me is just wait for the result. However, if
- 6:17Speaker 1: the game is on, I might pop up to cricket
- 6:19Speaker 1: as close and Hawkins and see for myself. Okay, coming
- 6:23Speaker 1: up now we got Oh I love this. The old
- 6:25Speaker 1: Kaids of Chiefs are here. With Oh my God, kaids
- 6:43Speaker 1: of Chiefs out, Oh my God. Okay, now the next
- 6:55Speaker 1: track going to go straight into it actually is a
- 6:57Speaker 1: song that might take you back to Alvid the Same Pet.
- 7:01Speaker 1: So now then, which character Jimmy Nail play? Okay, I'll
- 7:05Speaker 1: tell you after the song. Well, there you go, that's Jimmy.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Now can you remember his name in Alvida un Pet? Well?
- 7:28Speaker 1: There was, wasn't it Osi? Okay? Now you can you
- 7:31Speaker 1: remember the others? Really, I must be admitted I've just
- 7:34Speaker 1: been cheating. But there were seven of them, and it
- 7:38Speaker 1: was like Dennis. He was the foreman. He was he
- 7:41Speaker 1: was the one that took all the flat for all
- 7:42Speaker 1: the jobs. It was like the agony are for most
- 7:45Speaker 1: of them as well. Then there was Aussie and then
- 7:47Speaker 1: there was a bomber, Big bomber. Do you remember him?
- 7:51Speaker 1: He was a wrestler before he got into show business.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And one scene which wasn't in Alvid The Same Pet
- 7:57Speaker 1: it will be remembered for was one of the Leanna
- 8:00Speaker 1: Jones films where he was fighting Indiana and you never
- 8:03Speaker 1: saw it gruesomely, but he went straight into the propeller
- 8:08Speaker 1: of an aeroplane. Do you remember that? Oh? Sadly, pat
- 8:12Speaker 1: Roach has passed away and he's not with us anymore.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Another one was Neville. He's Kevin Watley and he's had
- 8:20Speaker 1: a good acting career. He spent a lot of time
- 8:22Speaker 1: as Morse's sidekick in sort of Oxford. He's done really
- 8:26Speaker 1: well there. Now Wayne, Wayne, the Londoner was always chasing
- 8:31Speaker 1: the women. That was Gary Holton and once again, sadly
- 8:34Speaker 1: he's passed away. Now Barry, do you remember Barry? Well,
- 8:38Speaker 1: Barry was the broomy electrician and he it was Timothy
- 8:43Speaker 1: Spall and he really went on to have a great
- 8:45Speaker 1: acting career. I remember one of his one of his performances,
- 8:50Speaker 1: he was billed as Winster Churchill. And the last one
- 8:54Speaker 1: was Chris Fairbank. He does pop up in a few
- 8:56Speaker 1: adverts and things, and he was known as Moxie. But
- 9:00Speaker 1: what a great series that was. I used to love
- 9:02Speaker 1: watching that. Didn't ever want to miss it. Okay, I
- 9:05Speaker 1: suppose we better do a bit sport now, Well, it's
- 9:08Speaker 1: a football turn now. It was a busy bank holoday
- 9:11Speaker 1: for our local football teams, playing with both Saturday and Monday.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So let's start with focusing in Victor. On Saturday, they
- 9:19Speaker 1: traveled to their temporary home venue at Margate and beats
- 9:22Speaker 1: an Auburn City two to one, the winner coming in
- 9:25Speaker 1: the ninety second minute. Normally they concede in the ninety
- 9:28Speaker 1: second minute. But it's it's nice to turn things around.
- 9:32Speaker 1: That was called by Ben Mason. Then on Monday, a
- 9:35Speaker 1: trip to Chatham, a team they haven't beaten at six
- 9:37Speaker 1: attempts that saw another two one victory, giving them six
- 9:40Speaker 1: points out of the Bank Holiday and move them up
- 9:43Speaker 1: to fifth place. Just remember that they haven't been beaten
- 9:46Speaker 1: yet this season. This Saturday's FA Cup first qualifying round
- 9:50Speaker 1: wherein Victor are technically at home to seven Oaks Town
- 9:53Speaker 1: from the Isthmian League Southeast. The game is to be
- 9:56Speaker 1: played though Ashbury Unity's homelands ground. Now this game is
- 9:59Speaker 1: wor two hundred and fifty pounds to the winners and
- 10:03Speaker 1: seven hundred and fifty pounds to the losers. So more
- 10:06Speaker 1: football news on Saturday morning are between ten and eleven.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I won't be here, I'll be somewhere else. I'll tell
- 10:14Speaker 1: you about that later. Adrian will be here and he
- 10:17Speaker 1: tells me he's going to do it FA Cup special
- 10:19Speaker 1: because there's a lot of Kentish teams involved in this
- 10:23Speaker 1: first qualifying round of the FA Cup, and no doubt
- 10:25Speaker 1: he's going to go through some of the fixtures with you.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I have Town, on the other hand, at a dismal
- 10:30Speaker 1: Bank Holiday losing twice. On Saturday they lost three one
- 10:34Speaker 1: away to Eryth and Belvidere, then on Monday lost two
- 10:37Speaker 1: now at home to Kennington in front of four hundred
- 10:40Speaker 1: and fifty eight spectators. This Saturday, there are a way
- 10:43Speaker 1: to Faversham Strikeforce, who play their games at the Whitsterdaville
- 10:46Speaker 1: Town Ground now in the NLG Kent County League. Hawkins
- 10:51Speaker 1: traveled to Sporting Club Thamesmeat Reserves and lost eight two.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I had to look at that result a few times.
- 10:57Speaker 1: You know, that's the most goals conceded by Hawks I
- 11:00Speaker 1: can ever remember. On Monday they put five past Canterbury
- 11:04Speaker 1: without reply. This Saturday they are home to attended in Town.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Now New Romney had a mixt weekend. The beat in
- 11:11Speaker 1: Fleet down United two to one on Saturday but losing
- 11:14Speaker 1: three and eil to Elsford on Monday. This weekend they
- 11:17Speaker 1: are They're playing Cuxton United. Don't know much about them,
- 11:21Speaker 1: but I do know that they ground shared with Maidstone
- 11:23Speaker 1: United at the Gallaher Stadium. So that'd be a nice
- 11:28Speaker 1: treat for the lads, something to look forward to on Saturday. Okay,
- 11:32Speaker 1: so it's I have another bit of music now and
- 11:35Speaker 1: what we're going to do. We're going to play this one.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And as we've been banging on about park runs, why
- 11:40Speaker 1: not play park Live by Blue park Life and park
- 11:59Speaker 1: Life's been in the in the news just lately, isn't it,
- 12:01Speaker 1: especially locally? And why not? It's been a great adventure.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And Saturday morning I headed off to the Leaves to
- 12:09Speaker 1: set up some PA equipment at the start, finish line
- 12:13Speaker 1: and on the bandstand. But this wasn't any old part run.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It was the Folkston five hundredth event and the eleventh birthday.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Now big crowd was expected. The previous best was four
- 12:24Speaker 1: ninety one, but nobody expected seven hundred and nine people
- 12:28Speaker 1: to turn up. Well. I had the biggest surprise of
- 12:31Speaker 1: the day when my niece Joe turned up after driving
- 12:34Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty miles from Wisbeach in Cambridge. Here.
- 12:38Speaker 1: She set off at four am in the morning as
- 12:40Speaker 1: she wanted to join in a five hundredth birthday and
- 12:43Speaker 1: give her uncle Kevin A big surprise and the most
- 12:46Speaker 1: pleasant one. It was too. It really made my weekend.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I was setting stuff up on the bandstand and I
- 12:52Speaker 1: looked at this lady heading towards me and I thought, yow,
- 12:55Speaker 1: what that looks just like my niece Joe. And then
- 12:58Speaker 1: I looked again and it was really took me back.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Wasn't expecting it whatsoever. Well, back in August twenty fourteen
- 13:05Speaker 1: when the first one was held, there were one hundred
- 13:07Speaker 1: and thirty eight runners taking part, and some of those
- 13:09Speaker 1: original runners who come back every week, actually some came
- 13:13Speaker 1: back to celebrate the number of five hundred with us
- 13:16Speaker 1: on Saturday. From that first day was Jumbo, Ray, John Carlton,
- 13:21Speaker 1: Kate Lancefield, with Martin Ben and Martin Wood volunteering, and
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'm sure there might have been a few others as well.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So I've missed you out. I am really really sorry.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Run director Brian Davis had a busy morning announcing roll
- 13:34Speaker 1: of honor for runners who had done the most Folkstone
- 13:37Speaker 1: part runs and it went like this, in reverse order.
- 13:40Speaker 1: If you like, Simon Stevenson done three hundred and forty five.
- 13:44Speaker 1: All my guests of the show, Dave Walbrook he'd done
- 13:46Speaker 1: three hundred and sixty, Gene Burrell had done three hundred
- 13:50Speaker 1: and ninety one, Richard die Our four hundred and twenty four,
- 13:54Speaker 1: but top of the list was John Carlton with a
- 13:56Speaker 1: massive four hundred and thirty seven out of five hundred.
- 14:00Speaker 1: That's not bad over eleven years, is it. Now? Brian
- 14:03Speaker 1: didn't forget the volunteers, including Juliemander two hundred and sixty six,
- 14:08Speaker 1: Terry King two hundred and ninety two, Dave dan Here
- 14:11Speaker 1: two hundred and ninety seven, Peter Mander two hundred and
- 14:14Speaker 1: ninety eight, Barry Watson's three hundred and number one. Top
- 14:18Speaker 1: of the Pops volunteer was Graham Coombs with three hundred
- 14:21Speaker 1: and eighty six. Now it's a special moment for ten
- 14:25Speaker 1: year old Milo as this was his final run where
- 14:29Speaker 1: the rules say under elevens must be in within arm's
- 14:32Speaker 1: length of an adult. So that was his eleventh birthday
- 14:36Speaker 1: was coming up the very next day on the Sunday,
- 14:39Speaker 1: so this was the last race that he had to
- 14:41Speaker 1: be within arm's rent length of his mum or as
- 14:44Speaker 1: or his dad or an adult. But so next week
- 14:48Speaker 1: he's got the freedom. After all all these part runs
- 14:51Speaker 1: he's done. He can run on his own without anybody there.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Quoting more stats, there was an amazing one hundred and
- 14:59Speaker 1: seventy four first time runners that came to Folkston. They're
- 15:04Speaker 1: not first timers, but their first the first time visit
- 15:07Speaker 1: to Folkston. How good is that they came from far
- 15:11Speaker 1: away places such as Barrison, Edmunds, Suffolk, Leeds, Sheffield, Northampton, Wokin, Harlow, Maidstone,
- 15:20Speaker 1: North Yorkshire, Whitby, rick Musworth, Cheshire, Derbyshire. Terry Sellon brought
- 15:27Speaker 1: around thirty of his Ashford Striders and there was a
- 15:30Speaker 1: big contingent from Sittingbourn Striders and of course my lovely
- 15:34Speaker 1: niece Joe from Wisbeach. I think some of them they
- 15:37Speaker 1: kind of target park runs with a no on the end,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you know, one hundred, two hundred, et cetera, and so
- 15:43Speaker 1: this was one to target on the calendar. Now, first
- 15:48Speaker 1: man home on the day was Ashford a C. James Russell,
- 15:52Speaker 1: he run a PV and first lady home was Amy Seeger,
- 15:55Speaker 1: also from Ashford, a C. Making coach stellar BANDU very proud.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Well it was a day to remember, that's for sure.
- 16:03Speaker 1: The atmosphere was great, especially friendly, you know, people chatting
- 16:06Speaker 1: and finding out where everyone came from. You know, you
- 16:09Speaker 1: couldn't ask for a bit of place to do a
- 16:12Speaker 1: part run five hundredth birthday, So it was fantastic. I
- 16:18Speaker 1: want to thank I want to thank Run directors Brian
- 16:21Speaker 1: Davis and former guest to the show Trevor Devout for
- 16:24Speaker 1: asking me to play some music and she had the
- 16:26Speaker 1: runners along and it was it really was a day
- 16:29Speaker 1: to remember. It's just people to be talking about this
- 16:31Speaker 1: one for a very long time. And I want to
- 16:34Speaker 1: thank Nicholas Joyce. Actually she put the report together on
- 16:39Speaker 1: the Folks and Park Run page. If you get a minute,
- 16:41Speaker 1: have a look at that. And she came up to
- 16:43Speaker 1: me while I was in mid flow, so I helped
- 16:45Speaker 1: out a little bit. So a big thank you to
- 16:47Speaker 1: Nicola for that report. Right. So next coming up, we've
- 16:51Speaker 1: got a song by Reef and this is called I've
- 16:54Speaker 1: Got I've got a grandson called Reef and this is
- 16:56Speaker 1: called place your hands. That's Reef there and place your
- 17:19Speaker 1: hand now. Next one coming up, I'm not going to
- 17:22Speaker 1: mess about today. We're going to tone it down a
- 17:24Speaker 1: little bit because this is a lovely kind of a
- 17:26Speaker 1: slow summary song and it's called Delicate and it's by
- 17:30Speaker 1: Terrence Trent Derby and Terence Trent Derby and Desiree there.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Who would think you can make a song about the
- 18:12Speaker 1: word delicate. It's love, isn't it? It made it really,
- 18:15Speaker 1: really really enjoyed that. Okay, that was nineteen ninety three,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and we are going to spin back to nineteen sixty nine.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Now it's only little song now I only used to
- 18:24Speaker 1: make them sort of. This one is two minutes and thirteen,
- 18:26Speaker 1: so don't go away. This is bad Moon Rising.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Wow.
- 18:50Speaker 1: What a great ending there. I love that song. Right,
- 18:53Speaker 1: So we're going to talk about a Dover Waterfront this Saturday.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I'll be at the Dover Waterfront Park run. A new
- 19:00Speaker 1: event is being launched called five K Your Way. It's
- 19:03Speaker 1: kind of an event within an event really basically this
- 19:07Speaker 1: once a month where people touched by cancer. I mean
- 19:11Speaker 1: that could be survivors. I mean, don't forget, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 1: think about the families of friends, work, colleagues, you know
- 19:18Speaker 1: that have also been touched by cancer, gone through the
- 19:22Speaker 1: traumatic episode of seeing their friends suffer with cancer. It's
- 19:26Speaker 1: about them getting together doing a bit of exercises, right,
- 19:29Speaker 1: start again, about them getting together do a bit of
- 19:32Speaker 1: exercise and have a chat, possibly swap stories over a
- 19:35Speaker 1: coffee afterwards. Now, my guests last week was some of
- 19:38Speaker 1: Luiz and she brought this event to Dover or there
- 19:42Speaker 1: are other similar part runs with the same idea. Some
- 19:45Speaker 1: of herself is a cancer survivor and wanted to give
- 19:48Speaker 1: something back, so it was her brain. She's the brains
- 19:51Speaker 1: behind this project, and she's the one that bought five
- 19:54Speaker 1: K your Way to Dover. But we mustn't forget the help.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But also of last week's guest, Amy Stimpson and a
- 20:00Speaker 1: park run team. It's happening this Saturday at a normal
- 20:04Speaker 1: nine o'clock park Line park Run start time, and I
- 20:08Speaker 1: get there early. I get there about twenty two because
- 20:11Speaker 1: we're gonna have a little little chat with the audience
- 20:13Speaker 1: and someone's going to go up and just say a
- 20:16Speaker 1: few words. But for more information, go to five co
- 20:19Speaker 1: your Way over Waterfront Park Run and put that into
- 20:23Speaker 1: your Facebook search box. Right. So we're going to come
- 20:27Speaker 1: back to the nineties now nineteen ninety one. A crowded
- 20:30Speaker 1: house is only natural, as will bells from the early nineties.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Nineteen ninety one. In fact, crowded house, it is only
- 20:52Speaker 1: natural okay said last weekend was the bank oll of
- 20:57Speaker 1: the weekend, wasn't it? Normally we expect pouring of raw
- 21:00Speaker 1: but it was beautiful, wasn't it. Did you have a
- 21:02Speaker 1: great weekend? Did you get out? I'll tell you what.
- 21:04Speaker 1: The place it ran, Folkstone and Hive was absolutely rammed.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And why not me personally? I had a great morning
- 21:12Speaker 1: up at the park Run, which I told you about.
- 21:14Speaker 1: But then that was on Saturday. Then Sunday, me and
- 21:19Speaker 1: missus Ferrett, we popped down to the Sandgate Food Festival.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Oh what a cracking venue. All the food and bendors
- 21:27Speaker 1: were sort of parked along the seafront really and in
- 21:30Speaker 1: the car park there, and the weather was beautiful, it
- 21:33Speaker 1: really was. They had a stage, the main stage was
- 21:37Speaker 1: kind of pointing out to the sea. While we were there,
- 21:41Speaker 1: we sat and watched it half an hour of heroes.
- 21:43Speaker 1: There's just two of them and they do sort of
- 21:47Speaker 1: a set with two and then a set full monty
- 21:50Speaker 1: with the four of them. But they were two of them,
- 21:53Speaker 1: Tim Bradley I think his name is, and his mate,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but they were really building out the music. The crowd
- 21:58Speaker 1: loved it and he was so calm, you know. It
- 22:01Speaker 1: was lovely. It was just wow, like being a broad.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I think it's a bad time. We deserve something, isn't it.
- 22:07Speaker 1: We popped into the Rowing Club and had a beer
- 22:09Speaker 1: or two. Yeah, lovely venue and a pleasantly surprised to
- 22:13Speaker 1: see a former guests of the show, Amy Seegar, working
- 22:16Speaker 1: behind the bar, working very well she was, And there
- 22:19Speaker 1: was loads of people we bumped into and sort those.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I mean missus Ferrett was born and bred in Folkston.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Can't take her anywhere, whether it's says for his petrol station,
- 22:30Speaker 1: you got the dump, bump into someone. She knows everybody,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and we couldn't. We couldn't go ten years without bumping
- 22:38Speaker 1: into people we know, which was lovely that people that
- 22:40Speaker 1: we hadn't seen for ages all of the same mind.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Let's go down the sand Case as well on the Monday.
- 22:46Speaker 1: We couldn't believe we had two days both together, so nice,
- 22:51Speaker 1: So just did a little bit tidying up the garden
- 22:54Speaker 1: and then we went down to the High Food Festival
- 22:57Speaker 1: and what happens. Yeah, we bumped into colleagues of course,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and bumped into Jumbo and Jill Rate and ow lovely
- 23:04Speaker 1: to see them. Jumbo is one of my old buddies
- 23:07Speaker 1: who I used to play football with years and years
- 23:09Speaker 1: ago down at dim Church and there was a time
- 23:12Speaker 1: when I played for a team in dim Church. Believe
- 23:14Speaker 1: it or not, there were seven Kevin's in the side.
- 23:18Speaker 1: But yeah, we had a great time at the Higher
- 23:20Speaker 1: Food Festival was this is amazing. This We were chatting
- 23:24Speaker 1: to Jumbo and Jill and we were talking about obviously
- 23:28Speaker 1: the part round the old days football and that we
- 23:30Speaker 1: got onto the subject of Cyprus and Jumbo said, yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 1: who's going to Cyprus this year to do you know
- 23:37Speaker 1: your four day challenge? I said so and so I said,
- 23:40Speaker 1: and then Caroline Curtis is going and what should happen?
- 23:43Speaker 1: It's like Google, you know when you when you're googling something,
- 23:46Speaker 1: next thing you know, it pops up on Facebook. Well
- 23:48Speaker 1: who should turn up Caroline Curtis. Yeah, that was amazing,
- 23:52Speaker 1: real coincidence. So we stayed there a good old chat
- 23:55Speaker 1: about that and they had lots of music down there.
- 23:57Speaker 1: It was a great venue. Parking was very very easy.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It was very hot though there wasn't kind of that
- 24:03Speaker 1: breeze that you got off the beach as there was
- 24:06Speaker 1: on the previous day. On Sunday, bumped into Ross from
- 24:10Speaker 1: Radio Folkston. He looked like he's just coming out of
- 24:14Speaker 1: the per tents, and why not. I had a couple,
- 24:16Speaker 1: to be fair, I mean only shandies. But you you're
- 24:20Speaker 1: getting dehydrated, weren't you it was so hot. Well then
- 24:24Speaker 1: yesterday I met up with a load of my Eurotunnel buddies,
- 24:28Speaker 1: all us old gets retired, well most of us anyway,
- 24:32Speaker 1: we still get together. We have a coffee over a
- 24:35Speaker 1: farthing low farm, you know, and that was wonderful, all
- 24:39Speaker 1: sitting outside. I think I counted twelve thirteen of us
- 24:43Speaker 1: talking about the old days and putting things to right.
- 24:47Speaker 1: And that's what you do when you get old. You
- 24:49Speaker 1: always look back and you realize what fun you had.
- 24:52Speaker 1: You know, at the time he probably thought, what a
- 24:54Speaker 1: plenty of waste of time this is, But looking back,
- 24:57Speaker 1: we had some great times. So I'm chatting on a
- 24:59Speaker 1: bit of I haven't got a guest in so that
- 25:01Speaker 1: allows me a bit of freedom here on radio, folks,
- 25:03Speaker 1: and just to tell you about my weekend and what
- 25:05Speaker 1: I've got up to, and you can probably relate to
- 25:08Speaker 1: it as well. And you might have noticed on my
- 25:10Speaker 1: shows whenever I do a sports show, I love name dropping.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I think everyone should have a little name drop now
- 25:16Speaker 1: and then. And there's something I really really think it's
- 25:20Speaker 1: very important. If someone's done anything done, or run, anything, volunteered, whatever,
- 25:25Speaker 1: they deserve a little mention. So if you want to
- 25:28Speaker 1: be on my show and you've got something sporty, preferably
- 25:32Speaker 1: from the Folkston area that you want to pass on,
- 25:36Speaker 1: it might be that you're doing something for a charity.
- 25:39Speaker 1: We've got the half marathon coming up and I'm hoping
- 25:42Speaker 1: to get Ray Johnson in and so that's always been
- 25:46Speaker 1: worth a good mention, as we did last week with
- 25:48Speaker 1: Joe Tolhurst. He's got the firewalk coming up. We're talking
- 25:51Speaker 1: about that next week. There's loads going on in the
- 25:53Speaker 1: town sporty wise. You are a member of a team
- 25:56Speaker 1: that just want to come in junior team, bring your
- 25:59Speaker 1: coaches in and a a chat. We're more than happy
- 26:02Speaker 1: to have you on the show. And this is what
- 26:05Speaker 1: community radio is all about. So I've whittled on enough
- 26:10Speaker 1: and I've found this one in the playlist. It's another
- 26:14Speaker 1: nineties song, nineteen ninety. I'm not sure about this one.
- 26:18Speaker 1: It's a bit of a mixture summer rain that's Belinda
- 26:37Speaker 1: Carlisle summer rain and we're going to go straight and
- 26:40Speaker 1: we weren't able to play all of this that we
- 26:42Speaker 1: do the sort of fade out with it. So this
- 26:44Speaker 1: is Adele and why not let's set fire to the rain.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Allot it?
- 26:56Speaker 1: Bo LuSE it.
- 27:01Speaker 2: You used to claim it was dark and I was
- 27:07Speaker 2: over hunt you kiss my lips.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And well that's it from me. Thanks for tuning in.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I'll be on. I won't be on here on Saturday,
- 27:18Speaker 1: as I shall be at the five k Your Way
- 27:20Speaker 1: part run at Dover, but tuning into between ten and eleven,
- 27:24Speaker 1: listen to eighties sports show. He's doing that Fa Cup special,
- 27:27Speaker 1: he tells me. So make the most of the sunshine
- 27:29Speaker 1: why you can, and I'll catch up with you next Thursday.
- 27:33Speaker 1: In the meantime, have a great weekend.
