- 0:00SPEAKER_05: Let's do together season five is back.
- 0:02SPEAKER_05: This episode.
- 0:03SPEAKER_05: We are back.
- 0:04SPEAKER_05: It's been five long months.
- 0:06SPEAKER_05: In this episode, we talk pro league, we talk what we've been up to, and we mainly talk the Europeans.
- 0:11SPEAKER_05: That block the final, all three of us.
- 0:14SPEAKER_05: Let's go.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: I like it.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: We're back twice.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I like it.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: I thought it was excellent, Phil.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Not even kidding.
- 0:46SPEAKER_05: I don't know if this is part of the podcast, but okay.
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we can definitely do it.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I like it.
- 0:52SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 0:53SPEAKER_05: Well, we are back.
- 0:54SPEAKER_05: We are let's stick together.
- 0:56SPEAKER_05: We're brought to you by Y1.
- 0:58SPEAKER_05: Firstly, the shameless plug.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: Have you seen the Y1 Africa range?
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: It's pretty tasty stuff.
- 1:04SPEAKER_05: Me and uh and the Lanky Men used it at the Europeans.
- 1:08SPEAKER_05: What do you guys think?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, Brendan didn't use it at the Europeans.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm yet to get my sticks.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 1:14SPEAKER_05: Oh, don't don't whine like a little bitch.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: Basically, you got your sticks and then you sent them back because you didn't like what you requested them to be printed on.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: No, no, I changed sticks and now I've gone back again.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: That's actually what's happened.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Also, I requested certain things and I've taken them off, yes.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: But I've changed sticks back to the original stick again.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I want to give you shit about changing sticks, but I've changed sticks so many times already with Y1.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Like I've like I I've sent, I think at least 50 messages to Chris, Max, someone whoever about the stick not being the right weight and whatever.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: So I'm not gonna I get you, Brendan.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I feel you.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: But I played with I played with the stick and it it it was awesome, resulted in a win again, so can't complain.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: He started already.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: Brendan, just before we go on to move on, what did you request request to be printed on your sticks?
- 2:04SPEAKER_05: The first one we're not doing this, Phil.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: This is no, this isn't the time we do this.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, you had a funny name.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but what did you no?
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: We're not doing this.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're doing this.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: Why are we not doing this?
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: We're not doing this.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: Phil, you've already convinced me this evening.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: We're not doing this.
- 2:20SPEAKER_05: I feel like I do remember.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, Phil is gonna go there.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: It'd be interesting, Phil.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: If you want to go there, we can really do this.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: But I really don't want to.
- 2:28SPEAKER_05: Mine says PR 15 on, and I kept them.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: And I've changed sticks, creedy.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: And today's topics just to clarify, Brendan said creedy B U on it.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Nothing wrong with that.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Why is why you get I'll be honest, Phil.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: I thought it would look cool, and it came out looking like it's been written in comic sans, and I just thought this looks absolutely fucking dreadful.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: So I've come back, but I've also changed sticks coincidentally.
- 3:03SPEAKER_05: Oh this is exactly how we wanted to start the podcast.
- 3:07SPEAKER_05: Brendan's on the closet immediately.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, loving life.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: So happy to be back.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, greedy.
- 3:15SPEAKER_05: The news and the intro.
- 3:17SPEAKER_05: So we are back, it's been like five and a bit months.
- 3:21SPEAKER_05: Um, I thought we should probably just touch on what we've all been up to.
- 3:25SPEAKER_05: I mean, we could try and like review everything that's happened over the past five months with hockey and with us, but I think we'd struggle.
- 3:31SPEAKER_05: So um let's start with uh you what have you been up to?
- 3:36SPEAKER_05: Are you uh up to anything?
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: That's not not that hard for me to sum up, Phil.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Played two tournaments, won twice, pretty good summer.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Like, what else is there to say?
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: You're such a dick, Brendan.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: What have you been up to?
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, pretty easy uh for me as well.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Played two tournaments, came second twice.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, pretty now.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Um, genuinely that's it.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I graduated, Phil, I finished my university degree.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Um my second degree.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Um Maddy's gone to America, so I am very much in charge of myself and the little pig at home.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, not not too much though.
- 4:18SPEAKER_05: For anyone who doesn't know who the little pig is, I feel like you should clarify that.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: At the moment, she's scratching at the door.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: We've got a French bulldog that is currently scratching at the door that I will have to send downstairs in a minute because she'll make too much noise in the room.
- 4:32SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 4:33SPEAKER_05: Um I I can I can ditto Brendan's, and then um I yeah, the main reason we've took five minutes to come back is because I had a second child and uh couldn't commit to uh doing an evening and getting too much shit from my wife.
- 4:48SPEAKER_05: So stuff's now more under control, apart from it's not really under control.
- 4:53SPEAKER_05: So we'll see how this goes.
- 4:55SPEAKER_05: If there isn't an episode two, then you you guys all know why.
- 4:59SPEAKER_05: But I thought we could try at least to um at least like go through maybe a couple of things that have happened in the last five months.
- 5:07SPEAKER_05: Your door's opening.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: The pig has just come in in the room, and this is why we can't record when you're in the room, can't we?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: For everyone wondering, that was Brennan's stomach.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: He's a bit gassy at the moment.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So you're okay.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: That is not the reason.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: You okay, Creedy?
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: And we could don't you wait for thin ice and we're back.
- 5:36SPEAKER_05: Right, yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_05: So the pro league.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Just for anyone, you referenced that he won two tournaments.
- 5:42SPEAKER_05: The first one obviously being the pro league, which we all uh love at let's stick together.
- 5:46SPEAKER_05: For a just a just a quick lowdown about how that finished.
- 5:50SPEAKER_05: Uh Holland won for the second year in a row in the men's side, uh, and the women's side.
- 5:55SPEAKER_05: The uh the Dutch women won this year.
- 5:58SPEAKER_05: Argentina came second for the women, and then Australia came third, and then GB men came second, and Belgium men came third.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Um that's what she said.
- 6:09SPEAKER_05: Thank you, thank you.
- 6:10SPEAKER_05: You Brendan wrote a little bit of a of a review.
- 6:15SPEAKER_05: He said it was the excitement of the fact that it came down to the wire.
- 6:19SPEAKER_05: Dutch won both, which is great for Holland, but maybe not so good for hockey in general.
- 6:24SPEAKER_05: And the relegation, uh, New Zealand got relegated for the men and USA for the women.
- 6:29SPEAKER_05: And will that have an impact on the LA Olympics 2028, Brendan?
- 6:33SPEAKER_05: That's what you wrote.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I well, I wrote this basically after um pro league had just finished.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Um for me, like obviously Dutch clean sweep on Pro League, and kind of there was no real doubt about the Dutch women winning women's pro league, which is a bit.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's just where women's hockey is.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know what you two think on that front.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Um, that's my opinion of it, is it's kind of not really a surprise.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Whereas the men's is actually I I genuinely believe that the top five, top six can kind of beat each other on their days.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: So actually the men's is the men's hockey kind of scene is pretty exciting at the moment.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: Um, which obviously, like, if you look at the Euros is kind of like figure point for Europe being the strongest continent, but also like it's just really, really it's just a really good standard at the moment, whereas the women's is kind of one team's gonna win and it's a case of everybody else fighting for second place, which I think is a bit, I don't necessarily think is great for hockey um on that front in the women's.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100%.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: I I 100% agree, but even the coach of the Netherlands, Paul vanas, as some of you might know, is he's quite a character.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Um he's like not afraid to speak out and like stir the pot a little bit.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Bit of shithouse really.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: I fucking love him.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Um, he actually said before um the Europeans that he's craving or their team is is craving some um uh some stronger opponents that he feels like if on a if they have a bad day, they'll just win 2-0 against Belgium, Germany.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: So there was like this little um riot going on, like Belgium went to the press and even the Dutch press, yeah, Dutchies are so arrogant, they're arrogant people, and uh, we are really nice Belgian players.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And then Paul said, Yeah, I just gave my opinion.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: I believe if we play, if they just defend our game or we play a shit game, we'll just win 2-0.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: In the end, um, that was right before the finals.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Everyone was a bit, oh, maybe he's like maybe aggravated them a little bit and made it made their opponent stronger.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: But in the end, Belgium defended our game, Holland won 2-0, so he got it by the right end.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: It's just the women are just too fucking good right now.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Let's let's just call a spade a spade here.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: There's like everyone's just going for second place, and it's not a not a knock on women's hockey, like it is not, it's just they are too good.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: There is they are just too fucking good.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: The coach of Belgium, Raoul Ere, even said that he feels like the gap is getting bigger and bigger.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Well, everyone thought maybe Belgium can and Germany can like uh go up against them, but they're they're just they even seem at times a bit uninspired on the field, and they still win 5-6-0.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: They're just too good.
- 9:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and they should they should get some more, like I think like other sports should maybe give in them give them some more kudos.
- 9:28SPEAKER_05: Like, you've I've we've never seen this, like such domination over such a long period of time.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: And it should be more well-renowned, I feel like.
- 9:36SPEAKER_05: People should I reckon people who don't even know hockey should just know that Dutch women are just on an absolute tear for the past 15 years or whatever.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's and it's not just one generation, if you know what I mean.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: So it's not that they have like a golden generation, like with with with the Belgian men, they just have this this this sixth generation who's won the three biggest tournaments in a row, like one Europeans, World Cup, Olympics, like this.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: It's it's the the Artie van Dorra, Thomas Brios, um uh Felix Nay generation.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: But it's there's like a lot of new girls now, and it's just as dominant as it was 10 years ago.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: So that that is that is they do something like incredibly right, or incredibly well.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think, but also like they haven't won everything for like 15 years, which is I think probably the reason why they don't get spoken about as much.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Like 2015-2016 is a bit of a blip for them.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Obviously, over the course they didn't win in Euros and they didn't win 2016 like Olympics.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Like for me, like if we were to talk about them in the same stead as like a generation of that sheer dominance, they'd have won everything.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: There is a little blip in there, but as you say, like since Rio, the stat since Rio, the stats are ridiculous, like there's there is genuinely mind-blowing, and it's and it doesn't look like it's gonna stop.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Like the the fact that like the generation coming through now are also pretty unbelievable.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Yibi Jansen's kind of generation that are coming through look like they're dominating as well, and kind of it's just like a conveyor belt that's just gonna keep on churning out top-level players.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but even even even because you say uh they had a little blip, they still won Olympic silver.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: That's like the best, best, the best, uh, like hockey's great, like Robert van der Horst, for instance.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: Like, that's his biggest achievement.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: One of the best hockey players there ever, yeah, there ever was, and his biggest achievement is Olympic silver.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: And for the Dutch women, that's like uh the the the yeah, something like that.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Well, Pin Sanders, I think she's on a hundred five, hundred, ten, hundred eight, like something like that, in between a hundred and hundred and ten caps.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: She's lost two.
- 11:45SPEAKER_05: I see one of our top executive producers.
- 11:48SPEAKER_05: That it's some crazy stat now.
- 11:50SPEAKER_05: I might be wrong about this, but he said since Rio, they've lost something like five games.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: That's that's I might be just one off, maybe three, maybe it's one.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: She's lost two.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: It's crazy, isn't it?
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: That's that's like that's just like, or they are just so incredibly good that it's like or maybe also the rest is just fucking up big, big time.
- 12:15SPEAKER_05: Also, no, I think I think I'm not sure if I've said this before on the podcast, but like when I came and played with you, and we me and Amesy got assigned a team uh to coach every week, and I got assigned the like first team under 16 girls of Orany Road.
- 12:32SPEAKER_05: So it's just a under-16 club team now.
- 12:36SPEAKER_05: Anyone in England would think, okay, might have a couple of good players.
- 12:39SPEAKER_05: Now, I was absolutely blown away every week.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: I came off the I quite enjoy coaching, but I wouldn't say I'm like a coaching geek.
- 12:48SPEAKER_05: But I came away every week being like, How are they this good?
- 12:51SPEAKER_05: I just don't understand like how they're this talented, this technically proficient, like this, but they were really driven as well.
- 12:59SPEAKER_05: They like they called each other out on stuff, they they trained really hard every week.
- 13:03SPEAKER_05: And I always thought, like, wow, this makes so much sense now because the conveyor belt for Dutch hockey, if this is how it starts, uh, you know, I'm sure it starts way earlier, but if this is one of the steps of the ladder to get to the Dutch women's team, I completely understand why they're so good.
- 13:18SPEAKER_05: Because these girls could have stepped into, you know, I'm I'm pretty sure an England elite development program and not stood out as being bad at all.
- 13:28SPEAKER_05: They probably would have stood out as being pretty good, which I just think is absolutely mental.
- 13:33SPEAKER_05: Um, so yeah, probably found that very, very interesting, pretty inspiring, actually.
- 13:39SPEAKER_05: It made made some sense.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Well, sometimes sometimes now we're maybe diving in it a little too much, but like they they also like the Dutch women always seem like also physically so much stronger and better than than than the opponents, like they're just quicker.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: It just seems like, and maybe it's because of their skills as well, or whatever, but it's like sometimes it's it look it almost looks unfair.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's I it's funny actually.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: I I thought that coming away from the Euros, I actually thought that was like physically they just look better, regardless of the technical ability that they have.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: It just seems they just seem to just always be one step ahead the whole time for the whole 60 minutes, which I think is actually the impressive bit.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: It's not like uh they'll dominate the game for 50 minutes and they'll have a 10-minute quiet spell.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: It is almost 60 minutes of pure dominance that kind of seems to come across.
- 14:36SPEAKER_05: And we'll we'll nip that in the I guess we'll nip that in the bud um there, just before we move on to our official European segment, because uh sorry to sit a spoiler, but we're gonna talk mostly Europeans in this episode, and hopefully everyone uh tuned in and watched.
- 14:53SPEAKER_05: But just a last bit of uh information that Australia um men and women qualified for the Olympics recently.
- 15:02SPEAKER_05: Um and they they have the very tricky task of playing a best of three event against New Zealand, and both of them teams qualify for the Olympics.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: Anyone watch it watch it or catch in it?
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Worryingly close on both on both sides of it.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: That's that's what I was like a bit surprised by is the fact that like Australia actually didn't dominate it as much as they should have done for both games.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: I think that like it's what I guess it's one of the negatives for them of almost coming off the back of COVID and things like that is their is the lack of exposure.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: They've not been as dominant as they have been previously.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know what the reason is.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Um, but for me, like it was a bit of a surprise to see that New Zealand actually kept it pretty close on both the men's and women's side of things because you'd assume Australia would be streets ahead.
- 15:53SPEAKER_05: If anyone doesn't know that you everyone has a chance to automatically qualify for the Olympics by winning your continental championships, and uh because Australasia is so obviously small for hockey, uh they just play each other three times, um, as opposed to Europeans, which uh is fairly hotly contested, as we're about to talk about.
- 16:14SPEAKER_05: Um spoiler, we're gonna mainly talk about what we went through and all of the stuff that happened.
- 16:21SPEAKER_05: I mean it's pretty exciting, but I'll start with obviously we've already touched on some of the women's stuff.
- 16:25SPEAKER_05: Holland beat Belgium in the final uh 2-0, and Germany beat England in the bronze medal match.
- 16:32SPEAKER_05: I don't think there were too many surprises um on the women's side.
- 16:37SPEAKER_05: Did you guys catch it or what did you make of it?
- 16:39SPEAKER_05: Like obviously, we've just been into the women and the Dutch women won again.
- 16:43SPEAKER_05: Belgium are definitely on the rise, but showed they're still definitely a couple of steps behind Holland and Germany, I think, were absolutely devastated that they didn't beat Belgium in that semi-final.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Nothing to add, to be honest.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, nice.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you kept that pretty concise.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I one thing I would add is the fact that like it is really cool to see Belgium kind of going on the rise, almost doing what their men were doing and kind of going on the rise on the women's side of things, which I think is actually really exciting.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: I don't because if they can I don't if they can emulate anything as what the what their men have though, it does give the Dutch a bit of a run for the money.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Like if we're being brutally honest about it, otherwise it's a walk in the park for the Dutch for a few more years, whereas this is their own this is probably the best opportunity of somebody kind of knocking them off the perch a bit.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Um but Paul Van A.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Paul Van Ash was bang on in the end of the day with his interview, like yeah, and Paul Vanas said that he thinks the Belgians, uh the Belgian women are overhyped, they're not that good.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, he thinks the media is making them better than they seem.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: He thinks Germany is better than Belgium, still not good, but like better.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: His words, not mine, huh?
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: And uh he said something like uh he hopes uh they all get a bit better so that his girls are not as bored as they were.
- 17:57SPEAKER_05: And he actually also came out in a he came out in the interview pre-semifinal against England and just said something along the lines of just technically they're not good enough to beat us.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: So he said he said he said like um they actually they actually have a good tactical plan, but uh the players are not good enough to make the tactical plan work, so they're easy to beat.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Holland went on to win 7-0.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: He's arrogant, but he is right.
- 18:28SPEAKER_05: Like, let's put it that it's a lot easier to accept when you can follow it up.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I tell you what is like I know people kicked off about what he said and this, that, and the other, but you can't help but feel it's like great for the game.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Like just somebody who just comes out, speaks his mind, and then backs it up.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Like that is actually just great for the sport, kind of puts put a bit of a headline on it and then only go and deliver.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Like, that actually is great, as much as it as much as it is abusive towards, yeah, it's just great.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but in in all fairness, I just think the gap is so I yeah, 100%.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: I don't want to take anything away from him, but on the other hand, the gap is so big.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: I think uh you could have put uh five other like good coaches on it, and I'm not not talking like a six-year-old, but like good coaches, and they would still win, in my opinion.
- 19:15SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Too much.
- 19:17SPEAKER_05: Let's get on to the tasty stuff, eh?
- 19:19SPEAKER_05: So, first of all, how we're gonna do this is like Brendan put out a post um asking for your guys' questions.
- 19:25SPEAKER_05: We are gonna get on to some of them, but we're gonna answer some of the European-based questions as well.
- 19:31SPEAKER_05: We're gonna talk through obviously that final that we played in, the the the all of the ups and downs that that got with.
- 19:38SPEAKER_05: Um, so firstly, just to if anyone didn't tune in, it was pretty cool how it ended up is I mean, I think we might as well just get straight on to the final unless you want to touch on anything else.
- 19:49SPEAKER_05: Brendan, what are you you holding your breath or something?
- 19:51SPEAKER_05: Are you okay?
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just ready for you to glow.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: No, I I want I've before we go to the final, I want to say that the shootout series uh between um you guys and Germany was by a mile, and I'm not exaggerating, by a mile, the best shootout series I've ever seen.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: It was we were sitting there, and I I don't want to like don't get me wrong.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Um, I love England, I love the English men hockey, I love the country, I love teas, biscuits, whatever.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Um, but I was pretty confident Germany was going to win just just because they're Germans.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I thought they have a couple shootout, like guys who take a shootout who are fucking incredible.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, I saw the the uh uh William Williamson.
- 20:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right?
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I saw him standing for a shootout.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: I saw Amesy there for a shootout.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: I love Ames, but I was like, Ethel he wrote, he never even practiced the shootout.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: So I was like, uh, I think Germany is going to get away with with this.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: That like my gut feeling before the game, and we sat down with like the our entire team because we were already secured of the finals.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: We were just looking who are we going to get, and it just was we we were like, what the actual fuck is happening here?
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: The shootout from Williamson was the best I've ever seen.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: It was incredible.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Ames just broke the fucking goal post with his with his whack.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: You had a nice shootout, you even put a heart out to me, which I really appreciated, Phil.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Uh uh Dunnenberg kind of like he was best goalie of the tournament.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: He didn't I expected him to do a bit better, to be honest, but the shootouts were just fucking incredible.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: I wanted to put my take my head off you guys.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Wallace had a sick shootout with just three three seconds, uh three seconds to take it.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: It was mind boggling.
- 21:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I really I I I'm glad you brought it up, you because I I tell you what, that was like I think probably in terms of uh like like a hockey career nights, that was definitely the best one.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Best one I've ever been involved in.
- 22:01SPEAKER_05: Like you get to play the host nation when it's completely packed in front of 9,000 people at nine o'clock at night, and everyone everyone wants you to lose.
- 22:11SPEAKER_05: Everyone thinks you're going to lose.
- 22:13SPEAKER_05: You we didn't even play that well.
- 22:15SPEAKER_05: We critted a little bit, but grind out a nil-nil.
- 22:19SPEAKER_05: And then again, like it's the Germans in penalties.
- 22:22SPEAKER_05: Who's going to win that?
- 22:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, fair play.
- 22:27SPEAKER_05: Danaberg's got a hell of a record with shootouts, but uh we we um put in some serious work and did some of our serious homework about him.
- 22:35SPEAKER_05: And and I've got to bring up Connor uh Williamson because he rocked up um he he had two caps before the Europeans started, so he he came in ridiculously late.
- 22:48SPEAKER_05: He's this 21-year-old, really quiet, unassuming kid who just played insanely well, and everyone's like, Who the hell is this guy?
- 22:55SPEAKER_05: He gets picked for the Euros, and like I think a week before we were doing some shootout practice, and he's like like pretty quietly being like, Yeah, I can I can I can do one.
- 23:06SPEAKER_05: And the first one he does is the one that you see where he just casually walks in and just puts it over the keeper's shoulder, and everyone's just looking at each other like what sorry sorry, what what what did he just do, and how did that look so easy?
- 23:19SPEAKER_05: And that was against Maz, who is I would say, in the you know, he's he's he's incredible at shootouts.
- 23:25SPEAKER_05: Um and then everyone's getting really excited because we're like, no one will have ever seen this guy, no one will have a clue.
- 23:32SPEAKER_05: People think he he'll be really nervous and he'll just step up and do that, and we've got a goal easily.
- 23:37SPEAKER_05: And that's exactly what happened.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I yeah, the the we were I because I I gotta uh give myself some shit.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: He stood, uh, he was ready to take a shootout, and we were sitting, I think, with like 10 guys in a room watching the shootouts, and he he he walked up, he was like dribbling the ball, and he looked insanely like he looked nervous, he looked bit like nerve, no, not nervous, nervy.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: He was like dribbling the ball, like really.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: I and I said immediately I said he's going to miss it, he's going to miss it, he's not making it, he's going to miss it, and then he did that.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: Like, I gotta give like not that not that it matters to him that I will take my head off, but I'll take my head.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: That was insane.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: I fucking loved it, and also T-Sprince.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: Not a chance in the world, he listens to this, but what a fucking legend is he?
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Because everyone knows his shootout and he still makes it.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: He's done it four times in a row now, but it's just not it.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: He I think he just won shootouts.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Everyone knew with us, he's going to do the little turn, uh the fall down, push it in the in the net, and it still makes it.
- 24:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's annoying when people are so good at that and they just carry on doing it.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Prince Prinz and Muller, Hannes Muller, both of them shootouts, they're so young and they're so good at them.
- 24:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you're just like fuck it's these guys, and they just it is also worth touching on Amesy because you well, aim uh you for your information, he did actually used to take shootouts, but back in 2019, 2018, 2019, then he was injured for a while and we had COVID, and in his classic fashion, he just didn't tell anyone that he could do it, and everyone kind of forgot about him.
- 25:21SPEAKER_05: And then about a few weeks ago, he was like in his really quiet, he was like, Yeah, uh you know, you do know I take them, and then he was basically like I'm just gonna slap it really, really hard.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: It's also like a few days, obviously, like a few days.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: I think it was the day before the semi, you guys went down and practiced them, and I was in the hotel with him, and I was like, You're not going down to practice.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: He was like, Nah, all I do is slap it.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: I don't need to practice that.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: So they didn't do anything the day before.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: She rocks up and absolutely bins it as well.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: What a legend.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: I do think, I do think because it was, I think it was as you said, would have been would have been for any hockey player, like a career night, or as you call it.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: It it kind of made me remember, uh, or like made me uh think about the Belgiums in 2016.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: I think I've taught AMZ this.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Like uh they won against Holland in the semifinal uh in Rio, and it was like their first breakthrough, it was like their first final, it was their first moment in which they felt you call it the glass ceiling, right?
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: Uh the guys pushed through, and it was like, oh, we for you it was kind of a revenge on on Germany in the quarterfinal World Cup, and it felt like you guys were so ecstatic that it almost felt like the final was a bit of a bit of an of an aftermath, or a bit a bit of like a like the dessert, instead of that you guys like I don't know if you guys approached it that way, but made me like think about like in hindsight, not before the game, but afterwards.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: I was like maybe the the the all the like the the celebration, maybe it's not the right word, but like ever all the emotions that that that came with winning and in such extreme fashion kind of made you approach the final a bit different, maybe subconsciously than you did than you would than you than you would normally approach a final.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Like I think.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't think we changed the approach, but I would say that I think the semifin the emotion of the semifinal and everything that went through it, lateness of the game, um obviously like the high the real high of as you say, like it's the first semi-final we've won in seven years.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Like we haven't been to a final since I've been in the program, it's the first semi-final we've won.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: So from that put so from that point of view, like I completely agree with this, I completely agree with the glass ceiling, and there's definitely something to do with the emotion of there's probably a lack of yeah, but as it bears in since we've since I've been in the program, so since the Rio cycle, like it's been seven years where we've lost three on the bounds, it's about England.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Fine, whatever, Phil.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Uh let me finish my point.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: It's three European semifinals that we've lost, we've never got through that.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: So the emotion of it naturally, I think, played a big part.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: But I also I just think there's a probably a lack of experience on that front of the final itself that probably played a part as well.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: But I wouldn't necessarily say we approached it differently, but I think no there was probably a lack of understanding of how much that semi-final took out of us, if that makes sense.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: No, but approach it it's not that you guys approached the final differently or that you were not you didn't want to win it, uh uh that you want to win it less than we did, or or anything like that.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: I think just think subconsciously you guys were like a bit relieved, like, oh fuck, we we did it.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: It just seemed a bit like that that you guys were like, and it's not that you approached the final differently, or that you you're you guys were like, oh well the tournament succeeded either way.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's like that, but I just think the whole vibe you guys seemed a bit gassed in the final, in the first, like it was our best for the first half, it was our best half of the entire tournament, and we we were actually really good, but like it's it also felt a bit like you guys were seemed a bit gassed, or I don't know the exact words, but like yeah.
- 29:12SPEAKER_05: I think that's this could be yeah, I think it's a fair point.
- 29:14SPEAKER_05: I think subconsciously it definitely could be a factor.
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: Um on that, we'll be talking about the final after the break.
- 29:25SPEAKER_05: Now on to the final itself.
- 29:28SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's pretty uh exciting for let's stick together because we actually got to play a final, a major European final against each other.
- 29:38SPEAKER_05: Like, I mean, there was definitely an extra bit of spice for me, knowing that like I really, really I think to be very open, I really wanted Holland the whole time.
- 29:49SPEAKER_05: I really wanted to play you guys um in the final.
- 29:54SPEAKER_05: I don't really know why.
- 29:56SPEAKER_05: Uh obviously, there's a bit of it, obviously, with you you like you've got to have a competitive edge against your friends.
- 30:01SPEAKER_05: If you don't want to fuck up your friends, then there's something wrong.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: Um but also the way we play, I think if uh any nerds well, not even nerds out there, it's it just the man-to-man get down and give everything to it um battle, and we genuinely believed that we could do you.
- 30:23SPEAKER_05: We did in Argentina as GB.
- 30:26SPEAKER_05: We had a nice game against you out in Spain in the pre-tournament, and there was a lot of belief there.
- 30:32SPEAKER_05: I don't know what you guys uh thought.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a bit um like we we obviously got Belgium in the semifinal, and we we had it, we have a pretty good track record, I guess, in the last couple games.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Um won twice against them in uh in the pro league.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: Um the the boys had a good game against them in the in the World Cup semi-final, lost no shootouts, but felt like there was more to get from there.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: Like we we they they sued us pretty well, so we were pretty confident.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: I don't think it was our best game.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: The second half we actually played pretty well, and I think Jonas de Geus um just took the team by the hand and was like incredible in that Belgium game, uh second half.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: Um, and then for me it was like a bit double because I wanted I really um wanted to play a final against you guys and AMZ.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Uh would have been like a dream final for me if you if you would say that to me that started the tournament.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: I was like, fuck, that's the that's the best possible outcome.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: Uh playing against your best mates and um like a let's stick together final.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: That that was like incredible.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: But on the other hand, we we we lost kind of embarrassingly against um against Germany.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: Felt like we played a really, really shit game, like our worst game with Del May as a coach, maybe even.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: Um, so we felt like we had some we needed some revenge and to play the host at the final, you know, the stadium is gonna be packed, this the crowd will be against you.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: That's that was also something we looked forward to.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: But as you said, I think our playstyles are so similar in like the run and gun, um, counterattack, uh, defend heart, uh, man-to-man.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Like it's we we actually have a similar playstyle and a similar uh kind of idea of how to play hockey.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Um, so it it it was always gonna be a good final.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, to play to play against you guys felt uh felt really special.
- 32:27SPEAKER_05: And to and to add to it, like I mean, we're not big on this at Lexy together, but I'm gonna try it, and I'm definitely not big on this, but like you both obviously missed the last major and like have both shown unbelievable kind of like how to turn stuff around in less than eight months and grind and show how good you both are and get picked and then follow that up with like success.
- 32:54SPEAKER_05: Obviously, oops, gold or silver, but like first Brenn, like it must have been special to first of all get picked again after that like initial low of the winter period of the World Cup, but also like how you bounced back yourself and actually like if anyone watched um the tournament, Brenn had an incredible tournament by the spend game, and then like you you showed unbelievable you know composure in the final and the semi-final, the the passing range, the defending that block that we're gonna talk about.
- 33:29SPEAKER_05: Are you you you like you we're not big on this, but you're happy with yourself?
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, I'll yeah, like I'll I'll be honest, I didn't know if I'd ever play for England again, is like the true honesty of it.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Um I just did not know if I'd ever be able to break back into the side because after watching the World Cup, I kind of didn't really think I brought much.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Um, and if there's one thing that I've kind of like tried to live by since the World Cup was kind of just to kind of just back myself in my own and do what I do rather than trying to be somebody else.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Um so I'll be honest, like I had a chat with Rev's head coach, obviously, post the World Cup, and I kind of had asked I didn't want to ask the question, but the question that was on my head was like on my mind was like, what do I what don't I do that others do?
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: When actually what I eventually came to was the fact that I just need to do what I do but better.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think that kind of like that confidence kind of instilled in me from that point on has kind of put me on a pretty decent path to kind of just focus on myself.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Um and I and I'll be honest, I absolutely love the Euros, it's one of those tournaments that you can't ease into it, you just have to go in all guns blazing for the whole time because it's such a high-level tournament.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, just off the topic, it's a fucking joke that we only get one team qualifies for the Olympics through it, considering how many high-ranking teams there are in it.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Um but I just think like for me, it's such a fun place, it's such a fun tournament, and at the same time, it's just ridiculously high level.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: So you have to just be able to just roll with the punches and kind of keep going at it.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Um, and I've to be honest, I've had a pretty decent seven months of just kind of focusing on me a bit, which has been really good fun.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: I'll be like in the brutal honesty of it, and kind of yeah.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: So from that point of view, just yeah, just had a really good seven months of just kind of getting my head down and attacking every day and every session, which has been quite nice.
- 35:23SPEAKER_05: And and you P the the the three-time consecutive European champ, don't think there's many guys or girls who've maybe ever done that.
- 35:34SPEAKER_05: So that's I mean, maybe people don't talk about this.
- 35:37SPEAKER_05: I don't know why, but like that's a pretty cool stat.
- 35:40SPEAKER_05: But before you talk, because I have to say something nice about you as well now.
- 35:44SPEAKER_05: But like, if anyone again has watched Dupe since the World Cup, he can be an emotional boy.
- 35:50SPEAKER_05: And speaking to you over Christmas was like, man, is he is he gonna turn this around?
- 35:55SPEAKER_05: I really, really fucking want him to, but is he gonna do it?
- 35:57SPEAKER_05: And if anyone's watched the pro league, or especially if you watch the European uh Europeans, you saw how how annoyingly fucking good you are.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: Like it's basically the unpressible man, the guy who is way, way better at defending than you ever get credit for, and the the range of passing, the the running with the ball, not just down the right hand side, it's it was it was unbelievable, and there's always that very difficult part of you where you're playing against someone, but you're kind of happy for them, but you're kind of like fuck, what the hell's going on?
- 36:28SPEAKER_05: So, again, like how's it been for you?
- 36:30SPEAKER_05: This is very deep for Let's Tick Together, but it's it's a serious it's a serious podcast.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's I like it a lot, but it's serious.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: I have some great shit or hits for later by the way.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: We're gonna we're gonna absolutely but uh to answer your question, yeah.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: I've like I um it was a weird year, and uh, I think I'd kind of turned like the pro league kind of made me um come like confirmed that I'm still good enough to play for national team, and I I I I never really doubted it, but I was like, Yeah, fuck, do I fit in the system?
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: Do I uh can I be just a good defender and focus on just just being a defender instead of focusing on running down right hand side and doing like all the stuff that I like on the ball?
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: And I think I kind of turned that that around, and it's just uh as I said back then, it's just a mentality, um, like a mindset thing that I changed for myself and it kind of worked, but I just yeah, it felt it just felt good and it felt like I uh felt like I belonged there and that I that I that I can actually add something to to our team and like that I bring something that others can't.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: And uh I always kind of believed in that, but now it it also showed a bit in both pro league and Europeans.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: So I'm um yeah, I'm happy that I uh that I that I um persevered.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know how you call it, like I stuck stuck around, and like um I think as Brendan said, I started also focusing just more on myself, and I'm a pretty uh you said emotional guy, but I'm also a guy who really thrives when he has people around him and who likes to have people around him all the time and also focus on other people in in like uh not in a bad way, but always busy with making everybody feel nice and feel make everybody feel comfortable and making jokes and doing like the stupid shit I always do.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: And I started just focusing a bit more on myself and being being good and being um yeah, bring bringing some value to the team.
- 38:29SPEAKER_05: So awesome.
- 38:31SPEAKER_05: And now we'll we'll we'll get on to the the like the bits of the final.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: I'll go incredibly quickly.
- 38:37SPEAKER_05: We lost 2-1 in the end.
- 38:38SPEAKER_05: England did uh the Dutch went um one nil up pretty early doors, as you put or like alluded to, had an incredibly good first half, and then went uh two-nil up in the second half.
- 38:53SPEAKER_05: We had a rain delay, there was a thunderstorm.
- 38:56SPEAKER_05: It was all a bit, it was all a bit mental.
- 38:58SPEAKER_05: And then I think we should pick the pick the story up, though, with with everyone knows about it.
- 39:04SPEAKER_05: People have a lot of people ask the question about what we think, what happened in the last like 10 minutes.
- 39:09SPEAKER_05: So we got a goal back, and then we got to talk about the block because it's possibly the best thing that Brendan will ever do on a hockey pitch, and that's not and that is not an insult, but to paint you the picture is that we take our goalie off, we give the ball straight to Yupe in his own D.
- 39:27SPEAKER_05: He does a classic Yupe thing of do a fake pass, which sells our guy a hot dog, he then runs forward.
- 39:34SPEAKER_05: Brendan's on the halfway line with um Derek, we call him uh Derek Devilder, who is a very popular man in the England's team.
- 39:43SPEAKER_05: Anyway, he sells Brendan for an incredibly good hot dog.
- 39:49SPEAKER_05: He makes a wonderful S-shaped lead.
- 39:52SPEAKER_05: Wait, we can talk all about it, Brendan calm yourself.
- 39:57SPEAKER_05: He then has about, I don't know, 25 yards a head start on Brendan to go and score a goal.
- 40:06SPEAKER_05: Um Brendan gets his head back in his typical fashion, sprints his little socks off, does a dive from about 15 yards away, and makes block of the century.
- 40:17SPEAKER_05: Brendan's got his hand up this whole time, so go on.
- 40:20SPEAKER_05: I can't keep you any longer.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I'll be honest.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: So when you won the ball, right, I'll try and picture like paint the picture of what's going on in my head.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: I'm like, right, I've got to mark Derek.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: I've got to mark Derek.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: He genuinely moves about five yards to my right.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: So I move five yards to my right.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: He then turns, he doesn't sell me a great lead, he just turns and runs the other way.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: I still think he's going the same way.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: So I'm now, I reckon about 30 yards away, at which point you plays an outrageous pass straight through our team and puts him away.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, all I'm thinking is I've got to clear my own shit up here.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Oh fuck.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: So I've just genuinely just sprinted for the for my life.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: I genuinely think when he's on the 25, I'm still like a good 20 yards away, and I don't know why he slows.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: I genuinely don't know why he slows.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: He then dummies a shot, which is why I dive.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: So he dummies the first shot.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: So I dive, I reckon, about five, ten yards too early.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: And the only reason I'm still sliding is because the pitch is wet.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: If the pitch is dry, I've stopped dead, and I'm nowhere near getting this.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: And I can't for the life, I still don't know how I've managed to get anything on it, I'll be honest with you.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: But I've just gone with everything I've got and hope.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: Just hope.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: It was it it was the start of like like a roller coaster of the last 10 minutes.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: Like to to to go back just a little bit.
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: We were in like I well, I wouldn't say complete control, but we were in control of the game.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: There was not a lot.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: You you guys didn't create a hell of a lot.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: You guys had a had a corner in the first half and maybe a goal shot or something like that.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: Like you didn't really create a lot.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: We we we felt like we were in control, then all of a sudden, it wasn't even that big of a chance.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: Um, you guys made the 2-1.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: Then you took your goalie off with like eight minutes to play or something, like it was a pretty long time.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: So then all of a sudden, the whole dynamic of the game changed a bit, and then to the moment, like to the to like the it would have been an even more legendary block if you guys came out with a win, which at that point, when you made the block, I thought, oh fuck, it's gonna be a game like this.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: And I think you guys thought it as well.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, this might be the momentum shift we needed.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: But like, um, I got the ball and I I saw Derek make the lead, and I passed it like pretty early.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: So while you guys were still running right, Derek made the turn.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: I already passed it.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: So you guys, I think you were still watching here, like on your right when I passed it.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: But the pass was just slow enough.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: Like it it it was it was it was for my own 23, and I played like I had to like uh push is it push also in England?
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: I had to like push the ball.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: So I couldn't, I didn't have time or didn't the timing was right to push it, but it was like not like it was a good speed, but like not just not fast enough for for it to like roll in the stick.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: So I had to wait for the ball just a little bit, which gave you also the time to get back.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: But I think I think and that's because uh I know you you guys in in the English squad um don't really like Derek Defield, but he he played a really good tournament.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: He was really good.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: It was he was really good for us, but he had too much time.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: I think I think that was his whole problem.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: He felt like, oh, I have to score a goal, I have to score this open goal.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: I have I have like like a like a like a marathon of of length behind me, free.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: There's no one there, it's a goal.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: When you look back at the video from like behind the goal, there's like six people of our team with our hands up already, like we've won this game, this is over.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: Because if he scores it, it's over.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: It's one, it's like five minutes to play.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: We were all like this, we were like game.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: over we got and it's like and it's like you said it was a complete momentum turner yeah that you suddenly I was like right well if this isn't a sign that we've we've gonna we're gonna win this thing then I don't know what is now the the the real fun starts because but but but sorry but again I and the you I don't want to undersell it and you said it I think it was the best block I've seen to date it it it's it's like it just needs like a Mike Green uh oh block by creed kind of thing but it was it was a sick sick block like credits brand I reckon we can get jack to do that we'll we'll get him to overlay that and then we'll get you to say the word creed so he can just like block by creed the creed and I think like I I genuinely like on that point though like if you watch like an American documentary or you watch like a sports thing the team that makes the block goes on to win like it is like that kind of thing and that that's the bit that almost like well don't hype yourself up too much Brendan come on it wasn't that good yeah yeah all right mate worth a try okay cool and on to the next and well I mean the the next point is the is the is the obvious turning point we've got lots of questions about this and like it's what do we think of it it'd be interesting to know what you think of it I've obviously got my own strong feelings about it like then I finally turn up for the first time in five games in the tournament and actually do something relatively good gone you want to do you want to explain why you struggled at the start of the tournament or are you just gonna let that slide oh well yeah I mean I had a some people say they go into a quick tournament with a niggle I went in with a full blown back injury so that was it was pretty solid from the start some some nice drugs no hockey beforehand really drugs wouldn't I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but I managed to turn the carrot farmer uh Vortelboah um head down my favourite baseline the left one um cut it back to Cal he has a shot it then comes off some bloke's arse and I tap it in and I've got to say I've had some highs but that is like pure euphoria of if you've ever dreamed about playing sport at the highest level you're in a final you're in a major final and you score with like four minutes left I can't really put into words what it felt like even though it was disallowed in the end I can't tell you the feeling of like absolute just crazy ecstasy that you have so at least I can tick that off whilst looking back at it now the problems come so so I'll give you a backstory the pre-tournament we got told about referrals and that they have to be in quotation marks immediate and there must be no crowding of the umpire now this is where we get very biased and I get very biased okay 13 shall I first give my no no Phil let let you explain his side of it and then we'll but we'll both go full Hammond on no I'll give I'll give like the objective opinion not my own I'm completely unbiased in this one I'll give my objective opinion what I think there's two there's three things here it's the decision itself it's the uh the whole um uh uh route or like the whole thing that led up to the decision and it's the the rule you said about crowding first uh our coach Del May before the tournament said about video he said yeah they first said yeah you you only have uh you you you should immediately refer if you want to refer you should do it immediately then Del May said yeah so we then said yeah but you still have 20 seconds to to um uh what what's the name to to debate with your teammates like to say hey did you see it uh did you don't is it the food is it not a food whatever and then he said at the end of the meeting it was like uh they all said yeah well it okay not immediately but okay relatively relatively quick and like the whole so in the end he said it's just the same as always that's what he said to us so I I I I think there was like that's like the kind of hiccup there was so we we actually approached the videos like we always did check with a teammate check with double check it and not keep emotion out of it like the whole shebang everyone else yeah and the second thing is um I still uh don't get the whole um controversy about the decision itself because I think the decision itself in the end was the correct one I think it 100% was a stroke the slap of bulk on your or more's stick it's calness calendar yeah calness stick I think that was a stroke then it's advantage which it isn't he flicks the ball on the on the uh like dangerously on the the hip of uh justin block yeah there's no advantage if you make an is make a foul yourself so it could never been a goal yeah agree but then we get to the major major fuck up that was the video referee like I think she was a bit too impressed with the whole situation and she just couldn't handle it to be honest because it was such a shit show let's let's be honest we were waiting for 10 minutes for for uh for a decision to be made she made the decision and then I think guntchen the the referee knew it was the wrong decision so he said no I don't agree with your advice check it again because then I think after she said it's you should allow a goal uh uh he said no because there was dangerous play can you check that then she said it's a free out then he said no that's still not right check it again and then she came with a stroke I think that was the whole thing and then again the whole and I know you guys are like always a bit special with your like special tricks and special shit and like the guys always prepare for like this really weird shit and you put a guy on the baseline during the during the stroke I think she felt she fucked up the previous decision that's what she felt and she thought oh let's let's give another stroke to the to the to the to the to the English guys fellas because I fucked up the first one I didn't know this before but apparently the rule is one foot if one foot's off is it's illegal so that's the fucking rule because that's bullshit.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah so I so funny so funny enough I'm I'm with you on that I think the I think the stroke thing needs to change because it because otherwise goalkeepers literally cannot move so a striker can literally run up and shoot and the goalkeeper cannot move until it's made contact which I think is ridiculous.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah um I want to go back though so we got told it was 10 seconds was the maximum time you can take secondly you guys asked for the referral but the replay had already gone on the T or gone on the big screen by the time you guys wait so you asked for the referral it then came on the big screen and then you guys actually asked the question to the umpires.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: So wait wait wait wait so my issue is we've always said if the video's on you can't do it.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: Now I know you guys asked for it before so that's partly that's partly the events problem.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: I'm with you on it.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: What my confusion is is why can't all three umpires see the video so the two guys looking at the screen speak with the umpire who's watching it on the little tv why can't they confer to actually get to a decision quicker because as you said the break was so long and it took su it took ridiculous amount of time when it actually could have been solved so much quicker but my confusion is is that it shouldn't when you state a rule regardless of whether I think it's fair you've got to go with what's the right decision.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: So like for example for example like the referral taking too long like it's the right it gets the right decision but it's bullshit the way it's got there.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: It's not about being fair it's about being right.
- 52:19SPEAKER_05: So my issue is the fact that yes it was the right decision this that and the other but that shouldn't get in the way of the fact that if you take too long to refer that's that's on you guys not doing it quick so I'm like I get I get really sorry Phil the foot the fuck the there's four of you crowding him and then he he's like no too long too long too long the other umpire's going yeah rewrite too long and then in the in the middle of it they they they close him and he's just like there's four of them now okay what do you want and you are like sorry sorry and then you go back I'm pacing the pitch like um trying to get really like really calm but incredibly angry and then you see her lip read on the screen be like no decision possible no clear reason to change a decision and then I'm like what's a fucking goal then blow your fucking whistle mate and so like I guess the emotions of it I agree with you it was right it was a stroke in the end blah blah blah but it should never get to that because you took too long and you crowded the bloke and he was he was a right knob that guy whatever his name is Ben he he gave he uh in against Spain I I pointed at my wrist and he gave a referral no no Phil you asked for a referral we've all seen that yeah that's sorry but that's so naive from you to do this the more I think about it the more stupid it is from you it's not his fault he's seen somebody do this and gone automatically yeah fair yeah my my there also there 100% needs to be a limit on referrals from now on on time limit.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: There needs to be a limit because that was a that was a genuine joke how long that lasted.
- 53:57SPEAKER_05: Sorry Brent but the funniest thing about it was when we had the meeting about the umpire meeting and it was like um so so there's big screens and the umpires could see the review and could they get involved in that and um and they were like yeah they could but they're not allowing themselves to and I was like is there a rule and it was like no they just they just they said they're not allowed to look at the screen it's like okay well that sounds like a sensible idea why is that well because some not everyone has a big screen well it's like but they do corner oh no right anyway then move on this is rally me up yeah unfortunately banders missed uh missed a couple of strokes there was a lot of talk about should you take two strokes in a row the pressure on that is huge like what should be the process but I mean I don't I guess you don't we cover a lot of bases but you don't we don't cover the two strokes base um you may you made the second one against Belgium in the pool phase right you did you're right so and in um there is a little backstory behind it I really felt shit for uh for him for um bando penders bando penders i felt i felt shit for him i think he's a really nice bloke i really like him but i i felt kind of for him after the loss uh because you don't want to be that guy to be honest um but there was a bit of a story before that like um i'm not a huge fan of like uh shit housery right before someone takes a stroke okay i am i am a huge fan of shit housery right before someone takes a stroke i like to get in people's heads not that i do it too often because i'm yeah i'm kind of an idiot myself i get in my own head more than i do in others but like uh he said to some of my teammates or to one of my team he said yeah doesn't matter if it's a goal or stroke i'll make it either way something in that along that lines like he kind of jinx himself then flouris wottenburg and last balk i don't don't know who but like i know a couple of our guys were like shouting at him oh bando top left corner bando bando's top left corner then i know he probably heard it i thought am i going to acknowledge that they know that i'm gonna push the top left corner so go somewhere else or i'm gonna like do the double bluff and go for top left corner he went top left corner and missed then you knew he's never going top left corner again so our goalie also everyone knew was going right bottom i think the whole stadium knew and so it he kind of yeah i agree kind of there yeah and that's tough isn't it because you want to i i kind of like it that you you show the confidence the out of confidence but yeah again it's hard when you don't back it up i also got just to say because someone asked on the insta they asked we're talking about shit housing stuff on what my beef was in the final you had beef a chain or not pardon you had beef and chain hangman or where'd you yeah I wouldn't call it beef it was it wasn't even beef I basically I won a little dribble and then he like picked it right in the middle of his D and then it was like the quarter over but then they hadn't quite blown for the quarter and so for some reason in my head I'm like I'm just gonna run in that direction and if anyone gets in my way then fuck him and then so I give him a firm shoulder in the back and he gets very angry and then your mate Yurit gets really moody as well and then my instant reaction when I get into like a bit of a thing is just to smile and laugh at people which obviously is quite probably quite annoying.
- 57:33SPEAKER_05: So then I didn't realize that the camera panned me as I'm just laughing at uh croon trying to tell me that I'm a knob or something.
- 57:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah Phil Roper a man of two faces the rope a dead stare or laughing in people's faces that's I also got called that's my boy I got I got called um a pussy by Tys van Damme which I really didn't expect I thought he was a nice guy just called me a fucking pussy shoved me over and called me a fucking pussy I was like oh all right cool he's not wrong yeah but I also I can't take him seriously I've got I've got shit hair you but what the fuck has he done to his haircut he looks awful he's he's one of the most more handsome guys on our team so yeah and and his hairline has not helped himself there says says more about our team maybe than than than than it does about him but he's one of the more handsome guys in our team I do want to say Phil I tried to even though it was european final I tried I tried to make a little conversation with you during the game and you gave me fuck all I said I said we I was marking Phil and that next to him I was like well hello Philip and you you completely ignored me I was like oh we're gonna be like this today it was like yeah I love that Phil I love that you're in the zone that was pretty conscious though because I was basically like this is really really hard and um I knew before the I knew the before the game as well right you're gonna be looking for eye contact before the game you're gonna want to be friendly and I'm not up for that today.
- 59:03SPEAKER_05: I am not I was like I am not fucking liking you until the final whistle goes and so I was like you did stand in the tunnel at one point I walked past you and just didn't I fucking blank you straight up and then I was like I know he's gonna try and mark me and I know he's gonna try and torch me I was like I'm just not having any of it I I care too much about a gold medal and for you it was just not that I don't care about a gold medal even though it I already have two uh it's not that I don't care it's just I wanted to make just a little conversation um just say what uh oh I only said hello Philip you you didn't give me a single thing and what's the lesson in this Phil just be nice you'll end up winning that's the lesson take it with you are live lessons from you Demon to to me thank you you love conquers all right we're gonna have to end and do a very very fast shit or hit so we'll all do one shit or hit no not very very fast we're going really we'll just have a longer episode it's a it's a special we'll take our time yeah it's a special we're not run we're not running everyone has missed shit or hit sorry okay i'll be I'll be shot down firmly by the lanky man my my first one is do you know in meetings when people say have you got has anyone got anything to add we've got a fair few people in our meeting who who answer with no and then they proceed to say stuff for a long time and that's recently really got on my nerves it's like anything to add you want to finish off and they're like no but yeah we've got I've got a few points and I'm almost like shut the fuck up man or just say yes I've got something to add if I shit isn't it if I agree with it it's shit isn't it just you not liking something it's you see I think shit or hit maybe maybe we should also get another segment of like um uh psychiatry with with that stick together so that you just complain about yeah but this is what you did I was just going off what you did yeah I know I know I know I know because I had just I had rhetorical questions as like a shit or hit I think rhetorical questions are the most shit invention there ever was like why ask a question if there's like already a clear answer you know what I mean it's like at the end of a meet sometimes um or like the the open door questions it's like you ask a meeting and it's like you are like six six meters away from your guy you completely lost him and then they ask is this how we want to mark a guy and then it's quiet and then I'm like yeah I know it's not I know but yeah do you want me to say no because like it's rhetorical questions it's get on my nerves but do you guys like I do like the open questions they're the best ones when some coaches do that they're like so who are we like sorry or it's like it's basically like saying what am I thinking right now yeah you're like how you get this right my fake my favorite is what do you see here and then you respond and they go nope not that like oh I'm losing every time I'm losing I I like when you like for instance when you play a zonal press and it's like um and and for we discussed this like a million times for instance or we say a man to man and it's like he asks a question which everyone knows but you don't want to be the guy to actually answer the question but the coach is just shutting up until someone answers the question you know with zonal press what's the most important thing yeah body language yeah we all know body language but he's he's not saying it so someone has said body language right that's the most well done you play that is so shit as well but I I had I had a couple I had one um the French national hockey team shit on it I just named the whole thing that's like saying like Brendan Creed shit or hit worth a try the French man's squad what go on give us an explanation first and then we'll then we'll decide okay the I think they're shit to be honest like I don't don't get me wrong I I I like all human beings well no not all fuck that no I they're they have this irrational arrogance you have irrational confidence and you have an irrational arrogance they're arrogant but how can those guys be arrogant they've won fuck all they've almost relegated and they're fucking arrogant at one point we played against them in the first game it was five nil or something the game was over the ball went over our back line so I went I thought it was our boss I went and took it to take it quickly and then the ref said whistled and it's like oh it's not your ball so I just dropped the ball and went to my guy what if this French motherfucker said to me leave the bone motherfucker I was like what the fuck are you talking about?
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: Who the fuck are you?
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: I was fucking annoyed by that so hence I I don't like I don't want to say uh Kike Gonzalez the guy who spit the French guy in his face was right but he was not wrong my opinion well I think we might get onto the spitting instant next week but that's a hell of a monologue well done you yeah also like I haven't played France yeah I was gonna say exactly the same thing as you Phil cool I haven't played France um in I don't know how long so I've heard lots of bad things but I I normally would I'd happily jump on the bandwagon but I just don't I can't get they're just they're just really arrogant I don't like arrogant people they're really arrogant they really think highly of themselves they actually they yeah they just get on my nerves a bit and I like I like a lot of people I'm pretty easygoing but that's no right Brendan your one mine is like not hockey related mine is people who take photos of like for example they've gone on holiday with somebody and they've taken a photo of two coffee cups but they've not told you they've not said who the person is and they're trying to leave this life of mystery that really is like a shit for me.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: It sounds really odd but like oh two pints they're at the pub and there's two pints but they don't tell you who it is I'm like that's such a social media thing it really annoys me.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_01: You did that to you did that to me and you a couple of weeks ago yeah I'm not posting on social media I'm sending it to you two in a WhatsApp that's a different game but it's not really is it you're different you're like I'm out for drinks but who am I with I also my point is on social media it's a very different thing to when it's just a WhatsApp to YouTube clowns.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah but you are kind of showing off to us and leaving this like mystery oh my god you know what I think I think it's
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_00: I think posting two hock uh two two uh coffee cups is a hit.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: It leaves mystery, it brings people, it, it, it brings people towards your story.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: Like, oh you see two.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_00: Who is the fella?
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_05: Oh, both.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_05: Oh I think that's a great hit.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_00: Great shit.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_05: And if you do it on WhatsApp, what do you think of that, you?
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's that's really shit.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_00: Then you really that's a really shitty move.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: That's a dick move, to be honest.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_00: Then you're like, oh, I want to be interesting.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_00: I don't want to like leave it out there, but I really want to target these two guys of you both.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_00: I have um applauding when the plane lands.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_01: So we have so Will Cownan without fail, because I sit next to him on the flight because we go alphabetical, without fail will tap me, start smiling, and then slowly start clapping.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: And anytime he gets somebody, he celebrates.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: And I find it really entertaining now, but I'm I mean it's so shit, it's so shit, it's funny.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just think when it's when it's like an ironic clap, I think it's really funny.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_02: I think like maybe count it up when it's a genuine clap.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: I'm always like, really?
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_00: This is this really the person you want to be?
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: You want to be that guy or girl who claps on a plane lands?
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_02: I think that's just really that it's just that's so shit.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_00: That's fair.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_04: I yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe we should also, I should come up with that's maybe a a lesson for me.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: I should come up with some things that are a hit, maybe because we only we only discuss things that are shit.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: I quite I quite like the whole psychiatry with with us.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_01: I quite like that because that gives you space to basically just moan about stuff.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: I'm with you.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_05: I think I've got a hit.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_05: What about pronouncing Dutch people's names wrong?
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_01: Wrong, yeah.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: Hit no shit, no, it's such a hit, honestly.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_00: No, it's really shit.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_00: And you guys are fucking terrible at it.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_05: It means we're really good at it.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_05: We're really good at pronouncing it wrong, yeah.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you're not trying to pronounce it wrong.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we have to do it.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_03: What's his name?
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_03: Joris Krune, Joris Krune.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_00: Guys, the youngest Olympian uh hockey player ever learn his fucking name.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but well, just because you said that now, I'm definitely gonna say his wrong, his name wrong.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: I know, yeah, I know, I know.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's real satisfaction as well about just saying it wrong and knowing it so wrong.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_01: There's a bit of satisfaction there as well, which I'm I'm what's with the what's what's with the wrong?
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_00: What's with the K at the end?
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_00: Is it the new thing?
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: No, just wrong.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_00: This this little thing, what's that on the closet?
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_00: Fantastic to see.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just really hate that you guys find Dutch so funny, um, with like the the pronouncing of the letters that are there.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but that's kind of how we got around to Derek, was because I think his name is Derek, but it's really like Derek in England, it's a really, really funny name that no one's called, and so when's when we kept saying, Oh, someone mark, make sure someone's marking Derek, for us, that's really funny, but obviously for you, it's probably not that funny.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_05: No, because it's it's it's the cultural thing, you put it.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_01: Also, one of our one of our boys, Dave Goodfield, is like the best and worst person for it because he'll do it without realizing.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_01: So Danerberg, before we played against Germany, gooders kept calling him Gene Paul Danielberg, to the point that Jammer, so James Gore, without even realizing it before the game, said good luck, Danielberg, to his face, and apparently he got really confused by it.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_01: To the point, and so that that stuff like really tickles us, and it shouldn't, but it does.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that that's actually pretty fun.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_00: I'll give I'll give you guys that.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_00: You guys have have a shitty taste in humor, apparently, but that's pretty fun.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_00: Jacques.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_00: That's a funny name though.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_05: Okay, um, yeah, but it'd just be would it throw you off if someone started being like Jop?
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_05: Hey Jop, you and Justin, you're not very good.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_05: Like, would that would that bother you or not?
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_00: Well, look, look at me.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_00: Like, I'd probably just start laughing around it.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_00: I don't take myself too serious, Phil.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not taking myself as serious that I'm like, oh my name is Yupp, don't call me Jop.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_05: Well, the French bloke called you motherfucker, and you took that very badly, so no, I no, I wasn't rattled by it.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_00: I I was a bit rattled.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_00: He said, Yeah, motherfucker, and I then I first was laughing at the way he said motherfucker, like it made me think of Pink Panther or something, like yeah, was like typical French trying to speak English.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_00: Um, but then I I said something like uh shut the fuck, who the fuck shut the fuck up, who the fuck are you, or something like that.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_00: Like, really, like I was wasn't proud, but I was a little.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_00: Um I have one more.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_00: Um singing out loud in the car with or without people there.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_05: Can we do two different ones?
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_05: Because I feel differently about either of them.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_05: Okay, so like like when you're singing with other people in the car, I I think that's shit because I would much prefer to listen to the music than someone's shit singing.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, I I just started saying have you guys ever recorded yourself singing?
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_02: Have I ever recorded myself singing?
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_02: Have you have you never recorded yourself singing thinking I actually sound pretty decent and you listen back to it and it's really shit?
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_03: Have you guys ever done that?
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_05: No, no, right, if we're lucky enough, uh listeners, we will get that recording of you and put it on.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: I was I was in the car once I had like a two and a half hour traffic, but I was really, really bored.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_00: And I thought I first thought to myself, just to just to bring you in my thought process, I was alone in the car, and I first thought if I ever had to audition for like a talent show and my life depended on it, so if I wouldn't go through, someone would just come up and like beat the shit out of me.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_00: What song would I sing?
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_00: Then I was thinking, okay, it cannot be like I'm really going deep now.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but then I I actually thought of um it might be this song.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_00: I thought I don't sound too bad, then I start recording it.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_02: It was so shit, but I thought it was pretty good, so yeah, that's so you never did that.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_02: What's what song would you choose?
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_02: Just out of interest.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_00: Brendan, I've I had all my hopes on you with this one.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_00: You you seem like the guy who would do that.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but we all probably know that Brendan has done this, but he would never admit to doing it.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_01: No, I've never recorded myself, but I've a hundred percent gone through the exactly the same thought process as you what song would I choose?
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_01: And that you thought you were pretty good.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I used to think I was good, and then and then I've genuinely heard it back because someone else has recorded me and I've sounded awful.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you asked them to record though, yeah.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_01: In a booth.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_03: What song would you sing, you?
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think uh Country Roads.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's big that.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_01: I have a pretty good voice.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_01: I do Frank Sinatra, I did it my way.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it seems like you are.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that seems classic you, that does.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, classic you make it all about yourself again.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_00: I did it my way.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_00: At least I'm singing about West Virginia.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_00: You ever been?
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_05: No.
