- 1:00Speaker 2: big or too small.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Chad, we have a great matchup for Thursday night to
- 1:05Speaker 1: get things rolling. I think one of the toughest turns
- 1:08Speaker 1: of the NFL season would be opening weekend and then
- 1:12Speaker 1: playing on Thursday night. I don't know why I feel
- 1:14Speaker 1: that way, but just for a week-two Thursday night matchup,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I think that would be the toughest. You're still healthy
- 1:21Speaker 1: overall as a team. But I think the focus would
- 1:23Speaker 1: be trying to get into a rhythm and a grind.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It is tough to do that in the month of
- 1:27Speaker 1: September if you're playing on Thursday night. The teams that
- 1:30Speaker 1: will do that, though, Lions and Bills for Thursday night football.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It's Buffalo by four and a half here. Detroit, they
- 1:38Speaker 1: want to drag this into the trenches. The interior run game,
- 1:42Speaker 1: it matches up well against the Buffalo defensive front. This
- 1:45Speaker 1: is a group that gave up four and a half
- 1:46Speaker 1: yards on early downs last year on the run. But
- 1:49Speaker 1: on the flip side, The Lions, they want to blitz
- 1:52Speaker 1: as well, and that means, do you blitz Josh Allen?
- 1:56Speaker 1: Do you let him pick you apart? That extra pressure,
- 1:59Speaker 1: he can get the ball out clean, and then the
- 2:01Speaker 1: aggressiveness could turn around and actually hinder the Lions' defense.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Great matchup here. Two solid coaches. New coach versus old hat,
- 2:12Speaker 1: so to speak, with what Detroit's working with. Aggressive styles,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and well, is the difference Josh Allen, or do we
- 2:19Speaker 1: see Goff make his way into the national discussion.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm excited about this one. Thursday night football, I was
- 2:28Speaker 2: excited last week for football to get started, Hutton, but
- 2:30Speaker 2: it rarely delivers to this level of excitement around a game.
- 2:35Speaker 2: New stadium opening, these two teams, let's go. I'm ready
- 2:39Speaker 2: for this game tonight.
- 2:40Speaker 1: It's my Super Bowl matchup, actually, the Lions and the Bills.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Bengals and Texans coming up on Sunday. Texans by two
- 2:49Speaker 1: and a half. Houston's defensive front. This is a defensive
- 2:53Speaker 1: front that is built to ruin Joe Burrow's afternoon. They
- 2:57Speaker 1: can generate pressure and they do it without having to
- 3:00Speaker 1: blitz whatsoever. So they can have an extra guy drop
- 3:02Speaker 1: into coverage instead of having to get after the quarterback
- 3:05Speaker 1: with the extra man that then allows the smart quarterback
- 3:08Speaker 1: to find the opening within the defense. And then when
- 3:11Speaker 1: Houston has the ball, can the run game come through,
- 3:15Speaker 1: especially on late downs? against a Cincinnati defense that doesn't
- 3:19Speaker 1: have Hendrickson anymore to take advantage of the pass rush.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And it's a group that gets gashed in those situations
- 3:26Speaker 1: a year ago where the offense stays on the field
- 3:27Speaker 1: if you're taking on Cincinnati. I'm taking the Texans minus
- 3:31Speaker 1: the points here with this matchup, despite what Cincinnati has
- 3:35Speaker 1: to work with on offense.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I am very nervous if I'm a Cincinnati fan about
- 3:40Speaker 2: Joe Burrow having back tightness after one game. given all
- 3:45Speaker 2: the injuries and everything else, that is something to monitor.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Joe Burrow, I fear, if this season goes down in
- 3:52Speaker 2: injury again, you start to fear it's going to be
- 3:56Speaker 2: like Andrew Luck. A great but short career for a
- 4:01Speaker 2: guy that has all this promise. And I'm not saying
- 4:04Speaker 2: he's going to be like Andrew Luck and that he's
- 4:05Speaker 2: going to start a book club. I'm going to say
- 4:07Speaker 2: he's going to retire early from the NFL. So that's
- 4:09Speaker 2: one to monitor, especially against this defense with Joe Burrow
- 4:13Speaker 2: already reports that he's having back tightness.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Chad, could the New York teams actually start out 2-0
- 4:21Speaker 1: this year? Could this actually happen? Green Bay is on
- 4:26Speaker 1: the road taking on the Jets. Green Bay favored by 3.5,
- 4:29Speaker 1: over under at 44.5 there at MetLife Stadium. Visiting offenses
- 4:35Speaker 1: traditionally don't play well in this stadium against the Jets' defense,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and Green Bay... Well, if they have to settle for
- 4:41Speaker 1: field goals after making their way down the field, that
- 4:44Speaker 1: keeps the New York Jets in this game. Geno Smith,
- 4:47Speaker 1: he will play well enough to put them in ballgames
- 4:53Speaker 1: six or seven times this year. Is this one of
- 4:55Speaker 1: them early in the season? I don't even counting last
- 4:58Speaker 1: week with what they had to do. They embarrassed the
- 5:00Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans. They're confident. They're coming off of an offseason
- 5:05Speaker 1: where they had a game plan against an opponent that
- 5:08Speaker 1: certainly didn't come with one. And the Packers are coming
- 5:11Speaker 1: off the spot where they had this game in hand
- 5:14Speaker 1: and their coach decides to go for it on a
- 5:17Speaker 1: late game situation yet again before it messes up. Too aggressive.
- 5:22Speaker 1: They're stuffed. Is there a confidence issue going on in
- 5:27Speaker 1: Green Bay? Maybe, maybe not. But, you know, the Jets,
- 5:31Speaker 1: they rely on confidence. Right now they have it. For
- 5:33Speaker 1: how long? Maybe not for long. But The theory was
- 5:38Speaker 1: the league gave the New York teams, the Tennessee Titans,
- 5:41Speaker 1: early in their season so that both New York teams
- 5:44Speaker 1: could get off to a fast start. This would be
- 5:46Speaker 1: the story of the first two weeks of the Jets
- 5:48Speaker 1: start 2-0.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I don't see it with the next New York team, Hutton,
- 5:54Speaker 2: that we're going to talk about. Okay. But I can
- 5:57Speaker 2: see it with the Packers-Jets. But also, not going to
- 6:01Speaker 2: be picking that.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I think the Packers, I think both these teams are
- 6:05Speaker 2: 1-1 after this ballgame on Sunday.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Ravens and Saints. Baltimore, eight and a half is what
- 6:12Speaker 1: I wrote down. 46 and a half on the over-under.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Heavy personnel in their run game. Derrick Henry looked great.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Looks healthy. Looks fast. Still looks fast running at the
- 6:23Speaker 1: age of 31. Then there's New Orleans with somehow with
- 6:28Speaker 1: Shuck playing like throwing for 400 yards and looking the
- 6:33Speaker 1: part of a quarterback that Cam Ward can't touch. First
- 6:36Speaker 1: quarter point differential. for New Orleans last year was abysmal.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And if Baltimore is able to get off to a
- 6:42Speaker 1: fast start, if they score, they get up 10 early.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I think that's all she wrote for Baltimore, who's favored
- 6:47Speaker 1: by eight and a half. I think it all depends
- 6:50Speaker 1: on the first quarter start for the Ravens against the
- 6:52Speaker 1: New Orleans defense. They didn't do much in the offseason
- 6:54Speaker 1: to improve their defensive personnel, but man, did they, I mean,
- 6:59Speaker 1: they look like a team that's bought in Despite plenty
- 7:03Speaker 1: of players that you kind of roll an eye to.
- 7:07Speaker 1: They're playing with who? They have what? Offensively? Do they
- 7:10Speaker 1: make it happen?
- 7:12Speaker 2: They do. The secret sauce there is working.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Philadelphia. Philadelphia goes on the road. The spread only seven.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So this is why I'm like, Chad, what does Vegas
- 7:23Speaker 1: know that we don't know? Because the Saints are on
- 7:25Speaker 1: the road in Baltimore, and it's eight and a half.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And the Eagles... travel to Tennessee against this Titans team,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and the spread is seven, over under at 39.5. You've
- 7:35Speaker 1: got red zone offense that is elite for Philadelphia, a
- 7:39Speaker 1: Titans defense that you've got short yardage right now. They're
- 7:43Speaker 1: getting pushed off the line of scrimmage, and home atmosphere
- 7:48Speaker 1: means nothing. There will be more Eagles fans here than
- 7:51Speaker 1: Titans fans, and when the Titans have the football, Do
- 7:56Speaker 1: they have early-down success? The answer has been no. And
- 7:58Speaker 1: when they do, they have penalties. I'm taking Philadelphia. I'm
- 8:02Speaker 1: laying the points. I don't know why you would take
- 8:04Speaker 1: the points and take the Titans in this game.
- 8:08Speaker 2: We'll get to this in our Hard Rock Locks coming
- 8:10Speaker 2: up later, but I, too, Hutton, am shocked by the number, honestly,
- 8:15Speaker 2: from what I've seen from these two teams.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Vikings taking on the Bears, another matchup for the NFC North,
- 8:22Speaker 1: pivotal with what we saw in week one as well. Chicago,
- 8:26Speaker 1: they can take the top off the defense. They can
- 8:28Speaker 1: stress Minnesota's safeties in this game. Do the Vikings have
- 8:32Speaker 1: a counterpunch? And they do, I think, with Brian Flores
- 8:37Speaker 1: and their defense because they are going to try to
- 8:39Speaker 1: confuse Caleb Williams. And you've got a quarterback situation there
- 8:44Speaker 1: where Carson Wentz gets the win, gets the cheers. post-game
- 8:48Speaker 1: last week for Minnesota. Chicago looks like they're the all-offense
- 8:55Speaker 1: team for the all-decade team coming up for the NFL
- 8:58Speaker 1: with what they did in week one against Carolina. They're
- 9:00Speaker 1: favored by five and a half. My big, bold prediction
- 9:03Speaker 1: was the Bears aren't going to make the playoffs, but
- 9:05Speaker 1: I would bet the Bears this week.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I was stunned by that score between the Bears and
- 9:11Speaker 2: the Panthers. Stunned. And I'm thinking, Ben Johnson, man, That
- 9:16Speaker 2: guy's a football coach. He is an offensive football coach,
- 9:20Speaker 2: and he gets it done. But what a final score
- 9:23Speaker 2: in that one. I'm with you. I'd like the Bears
- 9:26Speaker 2: to get to 2-0 at home this weekend.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Give me Tampa at home against the Cleveland Browns because
- 9:32Speaker 1: they're going to bring the house here. Tampa blitzes on 40%
- 9:35Speaker 1: of dropbacks, and they're going to force Cleveland into some
- 9:40Speaker 1: third longs here, and they're going to make some mistakes.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Tampa's defense opportunistic. The Browns, they can try to be aggressive,
- 9:47Speaker 1: but they get picked apart in the passing game here.
- 9:51Speaker 1: It's eight and a half bucks at home. Chad, we've
- 9:54Speaker 1: been to that stadium. They're going to be firing off
- 9:57Speaker 1: on the cannons on the ship very often here at home.
- 10:00Speaker 1: 41 and a half over under.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I remember being in that stadium, that SEC kickoff, and
- 10:05Speaker 2: having a guy in a pirate costume act like a
- 10:08Speaker 2: security guard, kicking out media members for daring to step
- 10:12Speaker 2: foot on the pirate ship. And that's the way the
- 10:14Speaker 2: Bucs are going to treat the Browns. They're going to
- 10:17Speaker 2: kick them out of their stadium for daring to step
- 10:19Speaker 2: foot on that pirate ship, much like that grown-ass man
- 10:22Speaker 2: who was dressed as a pirate as Peter Pan was
- 10:25Speaker 2: that day in Tampa.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Steelers on the road against the New England Patriots. Patriots
- 10:30Speaker 1: favored here over under 41.5. Steelers defense, can they create
- 10:35Speaker 1: chaos for Drake May and company? This is a New
- 10:37Speaker 1: England offense that was top five in early down rushing
- 10:40Speaker 1: success a year ago. It's a formula for Pittsburgh. If
- 10:44Speaker 1: they can stop the run, they're going to win this
- 10:46Speaker 1: game because Drake May will be on the run in
- 10:49Speaker 1: passing downs. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers, what's the second game look
- 10:55Speaker 1: like for a Pittsburgh team with plenty of weapons on
- 10:58Speaker 1: the outside for him against a New England defense that
- 11:02Speaker 1: should be better than what we saw in the first
- 11:05Speaker 1: matchup go around late in that game for New England
- 11:08Speaker 1: and let's face it, a team that doesn't need to
- 11:11Speaker 1: start 0-2 for Mike Vrabel and distractions galore off the field?
- 11:15Speaker 2: 0-2 start, given the offseason, given, I mean, it sounds
- 11:20Speaker 2: crazy to make it to the Super Bowl, so people
- 11:22Speaker 2: aren't upset about that, but given the performance in the
- 11:24Speaker 2: Super Bowl and then the Russini mess this year, yeah,
- 11:29Speaker 2: not a great look, but a very tough start to
- 11:31Speaker 2: the season also for him going to Seattle. They should
- 11:35Speaker 2: have had that game won. Drake May, his quarterback, blew
- 11:38Speaker 2: that one. But, yeah, big one for New England at
- 11:41Speaker 2: home against Pittsburgh.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I took the Steelers plus the points here.
- 11:45Speaker 1: It's five and a half last I looked. Panthers and Falcons.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You have the Carolina Panthers who, I mean, in any
- 11:52Speaker 1: other week across the NFL, they score what they scored
- 11:55Speaker 1: last week against Chicago. They win. They also put up
- 11:58Speaker 1: a ton of points. But they end up losing because
- 12:00Speaker 1: it felt like Chicago dropped 100 on them. Meanwhile, Atlanta
- 12:05Speaker 1: just seems to continue to look like they're going through
- 12:07Speaker 1: the motions. It's Panthers on the road in Atlanta, Carolina
- 12:10Speaker 1: favored on the road here, two and a half. Atlanta's
- 12:13Speaker 1: going to live and die on the run. They are
- 12:16Speaker 1: efficient whenever they're doing it with 11 personnel because they
- 12:20Speaker 1: can spread out and do things with their running back
- 12:23Speaker 1: core that's an extension of their run game. Carolina has
- 12:27Speaker 1: a tough time whenever they're trying to get after a
- 12:30Speaker 1: quarterback when they can't blitz. Can they stay out of
- 12:33Speaker 1: those situations? Can they stop the run on early downs?
- 12:36Speaker 1: This is one of those where I think the regression
- 12:39Speaker 1: to the mean, Chad, Carolina, I view them as it
- 12:43Speaker 1: feels like they came off of a week one win,
- 12:44Speaker 1: putting up like 30 plus in a game that they lost.
- 12:48Speaker 1: But this is where I think they go on the road.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And I think they show just how much they've improved.
- 12:52Speaker 1: And overall, I know Atlanta may have, you could argue,
- 12:55Speaker 1: one of the best, if not the best player, B.
- 12:58Speaker 1: John Robinson. I'm taking Carolina here on the road favored
- 13:02Speaker 1: against Atlanta. That's very rare to see the NFC South
- 13:05Speaker 1: with a road team favored with every team almost being
- 13:09Speaker 1: exactly the same. But I like the Panthers and the
- 13:12Speaker 1: momentum that they're running with. They're trying to go back-to-back
- 13:15Speaker 1: in the division as winners.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Is there any team in this division not just going
- 13:19Speaker 2: through the motions right now, I feel like, except maybe Tampa?
- 13:23Speaker 2: I look at that NFC South, and I'm looking at
- 13:24Speaker 2: a lot of these teams, and I'm thinking, what is
- 13:27Speaker 2: this exactly? I see that with the Falcons. Now, a
- 13:30Speaker 2: lot of that is because both their top two quarterbacks
- 13:33Speaker 2: are injured right now. But the Panthers, what are they
- 13:35Speaker 2: doing with Bryce Young? He had a good first week
- 13:38Speaker 2: with that offense, scoring a lot of points. But it's
- 13:40Speaker 2: tough to figure that division out as to what they
- 13:43Speaker 2: are and what they're going to be.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Who are the loss– Los Angeles Chargers. Are they the
- 13:49Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh version early in the season that we're going
- 13:51Speaker 1: to see play tough, play in the trenches, run the football,
- 13:55Speaker 1: line up 12 personnel and just mow you off the line?
- 13:58Speaker 1: Or are they the group that we saw get smacked
- 14:00Speaker 1: around by Arizona? That's the question we find out here
- 14:03Speaker 1: as the Raiders come in 1-0 and they're taking on
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Chargers. and Jim Harbaugh's team that needs a rebound,
- 14:10Speaker 1: that needs to show up, that needs to put up
- 14:13Speaker 1: some points here behind their star quarterback, behind an offense
- 14:16Speaker 1: that should be a lot better than what we saw
- 14:18Speaker 1: from week one. This is a game that the Chargers win,
- 14:22Speaker 1: and maybe not handily, but they're not stressed late in
- 14:26Speaker 1: the fourth quarter against a Vegas team that should not
- 14:29Speaker 1: be anywhere close to the final score and winning this
- 14:32Speaker 1: game outright. The Chargers, I'm taking Harbaugh early. I think
- 14:35Speaker 1: last week's a wake-up call for them. I think they
- 14:38Speaker 1: come out firing on all cylinders. I like the Chargers
- 14:41Speaker 1: at home minus seven.
- 14:43Speaker 2: And when does Fernando Mendoza start? That, to me, is
- 14:46Speaker 2: the clock to concern yourself with with the Raiders. How
- 14:49Speaker 2: long does Kirk Cousins hold him off? Is this a
- 14:52Speaker 2: full-season thing? I'll be watching that to see when he
- 14:55Speaker 2: finally becomes a starter in Vegas.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Jacksonville and Denver, what a matchup here. with the Broncos
- 15:02Speaker 1: favored by a field goal at home, 44.5, the over-under.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence, you were talking about seeds. He should have
- 15:10Speaker 1: been the one wearing that T-shirt postgame. He was dialing
- 15:14Speaker 1: it up in Week 1 with some of the throws
- 15:16Speaker 1: in the red zone between two defenders, putting it right
- 15:19Speaker 1: on the money. Trevor Lawrence looked like Clemson's version of
- 15:22Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence. with how he played in week one. If
- 15:25Speaker 1: that continues, he's going to be the early quarterback in
- 15:28Speaker 1: the season that everyone's talking about. Last year, it was
- 15:31Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield. Everyone's talking about Baker Mayfield through the first
- 15:34Speaker 1: half of the season, or Daniel Jones. Trevor Lawrence is
- 15:37Speaker 1: going to become that discussion if they go on the
- 15:39Speaker 1: road here and win against the Broncos, who did not
- 15:43Speaker 1: put up a four-quarter performance, a full performance against Kansas City.
- 15:51Speaker 1: This is one that Denver needs. I think it's one
- 15:53Speaker 1: that Jacksonville wins. I think this is one of the
- 15:55Speaker 1: surprises of week two.
- 15:58Speaker 2: One of the bigger games of the weekend, no doubt.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Commanders and Cowboys, Dallas favored by three and a half. Surprisingly,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I know that Dallas, they're coming off of that loss
- 16:08Speaker 1: to the Giants. They play well on the road, generally speaking, recently.
- 16:14Speaker 1: They play awful at home. And the Commanders, well... They
- 16:18Speaker 1: need to get going. I think this is, though, Dallas
- 16:21Speaker 1: flipping the script. I think Dallas comes out firing on
- 16:24Speaker 1: all cylinders. We look closer to the version of the
- 16:26Speaker 1: regular season Cowboys than what we've seen last week against
- 16:29Speaker 1: the Giants. Dolphins and 49ers, Seahawks and Cardinals, plus Colts
- 16:35Speaker 1: and Chiefs. Chad, Colts and Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs,
- 16:39Speaker 1: gold standard in situational events like that. Sometimes, the elite quarterbacks,
- 16:47Speaker 1: they're making big-time plays. But I would also say the
- 16:50Speaker 1: elite quarterbacks know how to keep you out of the
- 16:52Speaker 1: detrimental play at the line of scrimmage. This happens time
- 16:55Speaker 1: and time again with Mahomes. The Colts were the talk
- 16:59Speaker 1: of the first half of the season last year. I
- 17:02Speaker 1: think it's the Chiefs this year with the way that
- 17:04Speaker 1: they rebound. Kansas City... taking on Indianapolis Sunday night football.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And again, I will say, whenever the Kansas City Chiefs
- 17:10Speaker 1: are on national TV, it always seems like they're playing
- 17:13Speaker 1: at Arrowhead. That is again the case this week as
- 17:15Speaker 1: they host Indianapolis.
- 17:18Speaker 2: That's one of the Colts this year too, and that's
- 17:21Speaker 2: where we're going to start to find out that game
- 17:23Speaker 2: against the Chiefs.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Then there's Giants and Rams. The Rams, losers
- 17:28Speaker 1: in week one to the 49ers. Giants looking to go 2-0.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's the Rams favored by seven and a half. And
- 17:38Speaker 1: John Harbaugh, there's a different look to this team. There's
- 17:41Speaker 1: a different vibe with how things went in that first
- 17:45Speaker 1: matchup against the Cowboys. It wasn't a fluke with what
- 17:48Speaker 1: I saw. It wasn't the Giants getting out of their
- 17:51Speaker 1: own way to win a game. This is a version
- 17:54Speaker 1: of a well-coached team. And we find out if they're
- 17:57Speaker 1: the surprise team of 2026. whenever they roll to the Rams.
- 18:02Speaker 1: By the way, are the odds on favorite? I think
- 18:05Speaker 1: at one time they were plus 500 to win the
- 18:06Speaker 1: Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Rams. Can you imagine if
- 18:08Speaker 1: they start 0-2? If they start 0-2 to begin the season?
- 18:11Speaker 2: I don't know that they'll be the odds on favorite anymore,
- 18:13Speaker 2: if that's the case, especially after the way they looked
- 18:15Speaker 2: in Australia to start the season.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that's one big thing on every NFL game coming
- 18:19Speaker 1: up for week two across the season. We talk more
- 18:23Speaker 1: and talk John McClain. That's straight ahead here on Hunting

- 19:41Speaker 1: John McClain joins us here on Hunt to Withrow. He's
- 19:43Speaker 1: a Pro Football Hall of Famer for his coverage of
- 19:47Speaker 1: 50 years across the National Football League. John, good to
- 19:49Speaker 1: see you.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Good to be seen, guys. Thank you very much, as always.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Are you a believer that week one is a liar
- 19:56Speaker 1: in general?
- 19:57Speaker 3: Absolutely, it's a liar. I've seen too many things happen,
- 20:00Speaker 3: like last year in New England. Got beat at home
- 20:03Speaker 3: by the Raiders, and then came back and went to
- 20:06Speaker 3: the Super Bowl. So all first week means is? He
- 20:10Speaker 3: can't go 17 and up.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Is this generally because even bad teams, bad coaches have
- 20:16Speaker 1: a full offseason to prepare for that first week, and
- 20:20Speaker 1: even bad coaches can come up with a good game plan?
- 20:23Speaker 3: Jonathan, sometimes it does. A lot of times it has
- 20:26Speaker 3: to do with what you've done in the offseason. Guys
- 20:28Speaker 3: can't put on pads in the offseason. They don't even
- 20:32Speaker 3: hit full speed in training camp. You have joint practices.
- 20:37Speaker 3: There's even restrictions on that. Of course, two preseason games,
- 20:41Speaker 3: and guys don't play. Starters don't play very much, but
- 20:43Speaker 3: then you see some teams come out and put up
- 20:46Speaker 3: 59 points, 39 points. So it varies from team to team,
- 20:52Speaker 3: and after the first month, it'll kind of even out.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Do you feel like week one is a liar when
- 20:58Speaker 2: you lose 23-10 to the Jets at home and the
- 21:01Speaker 2: game wasn't even that close? That's one that I'm having
- 21:04Speaker 2: a hard time thinking about Boy, the Titans are just
- 21:06Speaker 2: going to immediately turn it around and go beat the
- 21:08Speaker 2: Eagles at home, John. How bad was that?
- 21:12Speaker 3: It was as bad as you can get because the
- 21:15Speaker 3: Titans did not show any improvement under Robert Sala and
- 21:18Speaker 3: offensive coordinator Brian Dayball. Cam Ward didn't show any improvement,
- 21:23Speaker 3: and that's the key. I expected their pass rush to
- 21:26Speaker 3: be more effective, and I think they will be better
- 21:30Speaker 3: on defense because Sala is a proven defensive coach, and
- 21:34Speaker 3: he's making those calls. But right now, based on what
- 21:37Speaker 3: we've seen and what we saw from last season, Titans
- 21:41Speaker 3: could be in the running for the first pick for
- 21:43Speaker 3: the second time in three years.
- 21:46Speaker 2: So, John, you're no longer a Hall of Fame selector.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I hate that, given your longstanding relationship with the Pro
- 21:53Speaker 2: Football Hall of Fame. We've been up there, and I
- 21:56Speaker 2: feel like you're the main tour guide of everything there
- 21:58Speaker 2: and sort of the grand poobah at times of that
- 22:01Speaker 2: venue and what's going on and all of that. Can
- 22:03Speaker 2: you just take us through– What is happening for those
- 22:08Speaker 2: that don't fully understand how they're changing the voting process
- 22:12Speaker 2: and who gets to select and everything else that would
- 22:14Speaker 2: lead to someone that's done it for as long as
- 22:16Speaker 2: you no longer being a selector?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Well, first of all, I've been to the Hall of
- 22:20Speaker 3: Fame about 50 times and I'll continue to go. I
- 22:23Speaker 3: told everybody I appreciated everything they had allowed me to
- 22:27Speaker 3: do over 33 years on the Hall of Fame selection committee.
- 22:31Speaker 3: And I wish the people who have been retained on
- 22:36Speaker 3: the committee, the best of luck. But three years ago,
- 22:39Speaker 3: Deion Sanders made a big deal publicly about we were
- 22:42Speaker 3: putting in too many people in the Hall of Fame
- 22:45Speaker 3: and there should be a first tier. And the Hall
- 22:48Speaker 3: said this had nothing to do with Deion Sanders' outburst,
- 22:52Speaker 3: but they changed the bylaws to make it harder to
- 22:55Speaker 3: get in. So a guy like Bill Belichick doesn't get
- 22:58Speaker 3: in on the first ballot. Vince Lombardi didn't get in
- 23:02Speaker 3: on the first ballot. Neither did Tom Landry. But, and
- 23:05Speaker 3: I feel Belichick always thought he'd get in the second season,
- 23:10Speaker 3: but they changed the rules and said it had nothing
- 23:12Speaker 3: to do with Deion. Now they've changed the rules, taken
- 23:16Speaker 3: really a blowtorch to the process and said it has
- 23:19Speaker 3: nothing to do with Bill Belichick. 50 of the voters,
- 23:22Speaker 3: there's now 25 voters. There'll be three non-voting alternates each year.
- 23:28Speaker 3: I don't like the changes I've said so publicly. I
- 23:32Speaker 3: don't like the fact that no longer will anybody make
- 23:35Speaker 3: a presentation. I took great pride in making eight presentations
- 23:40Speaker 3: for people in the Hall of Fame, six Oilers, one Texan,
- 23:45Speaker 3: Andre Johnson, and Chuck Cowley. I was a member of
- 23:49Speaker 3: the Seniors Committee, who was a great player for the Cowboys.
- 23:52Speaker 3: They said some people did a better job on the presentations.
- 23:56Speaker 3: And it wasn't fair. Well, you're penalizing the people that
- 24:00Speaker 3: did a good job. And a lot of those people
- 24:01Speaker 3: who were cut did a really good job. And I
- 24:06Speaker 3: don't like that they've gotten rid of the seniors category.
- 24:09Speaker 3: There's no more seniors committee. That means Roger Craig may
- 24:13Speaker 3: be the last senior ever elected because the seniors just
- 24:17Speaker 3: go into the main scrum, so to speak. And it's
- 24:21Speaker 3: a recency bias. And we tried hard to get people in.
- 24:26Speaker 3: that had been out for a long time and deserve
- 24:29Speaker 3: to get in. People member of all decade teams, all
- 24:31Speaker 3: 75-year anniversary teams. So I didn't like to cut from
- 24:36Speaker 3: 50 to 25, of which I was part of, but
- 24:39Speaker 3: I'm not bitter about it. My plan really had been
- 24:42Speaker 3: to present J.J. Watt in two years, hit 35 years,
- 24:46Speaker 3: and then resign, but there's no more presentations. The way
- 24:49Speaker 3: they're going to do it is a non-voting member, somebody
- 24:53Speaker 3: from the Hall of Fame probably, will read two minutes
- 24:56Speaker 3: of statistics and accolades, and then they'll open it to
- 24:59Speaker 3: the floor. Before, you made a five-minute presentation, then they
- 25:04Speaker 3: opened it to the floor. So I don't like that,
- 25:07Speaker 3: and I wish everybody the very best who is making
- 25:11Speaker 3: those decisions now, the 25 members, and I can't wait
- 25:17Speaker 3: to see how it turns out.
- 25:18Speaker 2: John, do you buy that this has nothing to do
- 25:22Speaker 2: with Bill Belichick and the snub And the negative reaction
- 25:25Speaker 2: to that?
- 25:27Speaker 3: Well, they told me when I was informed that I
- 25:31Speaker 3: was not part of the committee that it had nothing
- 25:36Speaker 3: to do with that. But the timing of both of them,
- 25:39Speaker 3: Dion and then Belichick, wait a year. You know, Belichick
- 25:44Speaker 3: will be in there the second year. We all knew
- 25:46Speaker 3: it had been in there the second year. And so
- 25:49Speaker 3: I thought the timing was bad. Everybody thinks it's because
- 25:52Speaker 3: of Belichick. but the Hall of Fame says, no, it's not.
- 25:56Speaker 1: John, I would say the debate is much more critical
- 26:04Speaker 1: and harder to pass through with more selectors, not less,
- 26:09Speaker 1: because if you read these stats and then it goes
- 26:10Speaker 1: up to the table, I mean, you can speak firsthand
- 26:15Speaker 1: on this, the debates and And arguments that would take place,
- 26:19Speaker 1: discussions that would take place over whether or not someone
- 26:21Speaker 1: deserved a vote or over another player being considered, that
- 26:25Speaker 1: was the routine. And now it seems like they're trying
- 26:27Speaker 1: to streamline this to include selectors who haven't even seen
- 26:31Speaker 1: these guys play very often.
- 26:33Speaker 3: I thought it was also very few of us have
- 26:36Speaker 3: gone on Twitter and said we're not on the committee anymore.
- 26:40Speaker 3: But I've seen two lists and they say that James
- 26:42Speaker 3: Lofton and Tony Dungy and Bill Pulley and all of
- 26:45Speaker 3: whom are in the Hall of Fame. They weren't kept.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I was in favor of increasing the committee and add
- 26:51Speaker 3: more beyond our four members, the Hall of Famers who
- 26:55Speaker 3: were on our committee. And something to keep in mind,
- 26:58Speaker 3: like if I am pushing for Andre Johnson and I
- 27:02Speaker 3: present Andre Johnson and I no longer have anybody I represent,
- 27:07Speaker 3: I'm not going to spend time on 15 people like
- 27:10Speaker 3: I did Andre Johnson or any of those Oilers or
- 27:13Speaker 3: Chuck Cowleys. It's just human nature. You're not going to
- 27:16Speaker 3: devote that much time since you don't have a presentation.
- 27:20Speaker 3: And I hope it works out well. The Hall of Fame,
- 27:23Speaker 3: the people running it have been there forever, and it's
- 27:26Speaker 3: their right to make whatever changes they want. But some
- 27:29Speaker 3: of the people that have not been retained were some
- 27:33Speaker 3: of the very best people on that committee, beginning with
- 27:36Speaker 3: Rick Gosselin, who had been on it for 31 years.
- 27:40Speaker 3: And Rick was the one who championed the seniors The most.
- 27:45Speaker 3: And he was cut. I think Paul Kowarski figured out
- 27:48Speaker 3: it was over 330 years worth of experience that's been chopped.
- 27:53Speaker 3: And I know this, there's not near that experience that's
- 27:56Speaker 3: been kept, but hopefully it'll all work out the way
- 27:59Speaker 3: the Hall wants it to.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and unfortunately, PK didn't make it past this cut either,
- 28:03Speaker 1: which is... Again, let me get this right. Given the
- 28:07Speaker 1: fact that PK's not there, it's not like someone's going
- 28:10Speaker 1: to be there on behalf of the Titans moving forward.
- 28:12Speaker 1: They're just going to have someone on behalf of the
- 28:13Speaker 1: Hall reading stats, which means you're not there, Paul's not there,
- 28:18Speaker 1: but Adams has no more voice. The voice is gone
- 28:21Speaker 1: for Adams if you wanted to get a senior through
- 28:24Speaker 1: or a contributor through.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Well, he would be in a contributor's category, and I've
- 28:29Speaker 3: represented him the last two years, and he didn't make it.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I'm going to send all the information that I have.
- 28:36Speaker 3: And I'm sure Paul will, too. Send it to the
- 28:38Speaker 3: 14 members of the new contributors committee. And then a
- 28:43Speaker 3: guy like Billy White Shoes Johnson, one of the greatest
- 28:46Speaker 3: returners in history. I was going to push him with
- 28:48Speaker 3: the seniors. I will have information on Billy White Shoes,
- 28:52Speaker 3: the all 75 year anniversary team. I'll have his info
- 28:57Speaker 3: sent to all of the 25 people. voting members so
- 29:01Speaker 3: they can see his credentials. I just won't be in
- 29:04Speaker 3: there to do anything.
- 29:05Speaker 1: No Bud Adams as a member of the hall, but
- 29:08Speaker 1: Ralph Wilson is, former owner of the Bills. And Bills
- 29:12Speaker 1: opened up that stadium tonight, John. What do you expect
- 29:13Speaker 1: of the atmosphere as they host the Lions?
- 29:16Speaker 3: I think they look great against the Texans. They destroyed
- 29:19Speaker 3: the Texans' defense, which put on a pathetic performance. And
- 29:23Speaker 3: I think they'll go in that new stadium. And everybody
- 29:26Speaker 3: but the ones with obstructed views will be able to
- 29:28Speaker 3: see my preseason Super Bowl champion.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Chad, you got the Bills?
- 29:36Speaker 2: I like the Bills. I'm excited about this one. Yeah,
- 29:39Speaker 2: opening up that state.
- 29:40Speaker 1: John john chad and i are on board with taking
- 29:43Speaker 1: the the eagles this week over the titans i don't
- 29:45Speaker 1: know about you but uh yeah this.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Is the start of the titans well i'll have to
- 29:50Speaker 3: think about that one and.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Let me say since we you brought up the titans
- 29:54Speaker 2: there hunting The Hall acting like it had nothing to
- 29:58Speaker 2: do with Bill Belichick and expecting me to believe it.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I'll speak for myself and not John here. Expecting me
- 30:03Speaker 2: or anyone else in the brain to believe that is
- 30:05Speaker 2: like the Titans revoking Jared Stillman's credential right after he
- 30:08Speaker 2: got into it with Cam Ward and saying, hey, that
- 30:11Speaker 2: incident had nothing to do with it. It's about all
- 30:13Speaker 2: these other things. It didn't have anything to do with that,
- 30:15Speaker 2: even though the next day we're revoking your credential. Come on.
- 30:19Speaker 2: No one's buying that. It was about Deion Sanders and
- 30:23Speaker 2: what he said, and then it's about Belichick. and the
- 30:25Speaker 2: negative backlash surrounding that as to why they made all
- 30:27Speaker 2: these changes. So that's me saying that, not John. John,
- 30:30Speaker 2: you took the high road. I took the low road
- 30:32Speaker 2: for you, my friend.
- 30:35Speaker 1: John, he is a Pro Football Hall of Famer. They
- 30:37Speaker 1: can take away that. His name is in the Pro
- 30:38Speaker 1: Football Hall of Fame for his coverage of the National
- 30:43Speaker 1: Football League. John, you're the man. Thank you, as always.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Guys, thank you very much, and I hope you have
- 30:49Speaker 3: a great rest of the week, and thank you for
- 30:52Speaker 3: having me, as always.
- 30:53Speaker 1: There he is, John McClain. Follow him on social at
- 30:55Speaker 1: McClain underscore on underscore NFL. We throw some other underscores
- 30:59Speaker 1: on there just because it's fun to do. But check

- 32:19Speaker 1: Historical uniforms. Almost a thing of the past, really, Chad.
- 32:25Speaker 1: I mean, even George is going with the all-white this year.
- 32:29Speaker 1: You've got coaches who sometimes care, sometimes don't. You don't
- 32:33Speaker 1: have to ask Summerall about that with Florida. He's just
- 32:35Speaker 1: worried about winning. He doesn't care what they're wearing. I'm
- 32:38Speaker 1: a fan of the old-school look. Just keep it traditional.
- 32:42Speaker 1: And that's where we're headed here with the depth chart.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Let me say, we're going to show you the depth
- 32:46Speaker 2: chart of old school uniforms, and I'm with you, Hutton.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I like the tradition. Some of these look better than others,
- 32:52Speaker 2: but we could all agree that this is what these
- 32:55Speaker 2: teams either always wear or mostly wear.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Mostly.
- 32:58Speaker 2: When it comes to it, okay? Some of the complaints
- 33:01Speaker 2: I got, we posted this on social media, some of
- 33:03Speaker 2: it was like, oh, the old school Oregon green and
- 33:06Speaker 2: yellow is great. And I'm like, they don't wear those normally.
- 33:10Speaker 2: So I'm not talking about a throwback uniform. I'm talking
- 33:13Speaker 2: about old school college football uniforms that have been worn
- 33:18Speaker 2: for generations that continue to get worn in a very
- 33:22Speaker 2: similar fashion. Sure, there are little tweaks here and there
- 33:24Speaker 2: and little changes, but these are some examples of old
- 33:27Speaker 2: school uniforms that, yes, some of these schools have worn
- 33:30Speaker 2: different uniforms. They've got newer uniforms they wear occasionally. All
- 33:34Speaker 2: those things are true, but these are the ones I
- 33:36Speaker 2: like the most. Let's start with number 10, Ohio State.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I've never been a huge fan of the Ohio State uniform,
- 33:43Speaker 2: but I cannot sit here as a fan of college
- 33:45Speaker 2: football and argue that that is not a classic look.
- 33:48Speaker 2: When I see that uniform and that helmet, that gray
- 33:51Speaker 2: helmet on the field, I know that Ohio State is playing.
- 33:54Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it. There is something Hutton at
- 33:57Speaker 2: number nine about that block in, just the very standard in.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Totally agree.
- 34:04Speaker 2: On the Nebraska helmet, they're like, okay, that is Nebraska football.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I don't like it when they wear anything other than that.
- 34:10Speaker 2: They've changed the uniform a little bit this season. I
- 34:12Speaker 2: don't like it. This, to me, is the Nebraska uniform
- 34:16Speaker 2: as it always should be, and I love it. Texas
- 34:20Speaker 2: is another one that it has not changed much over
- 34:23Speaker 2: the years. No stripe down the middle of the helmet,
- 34:25Speaker 2: solid white with the burnt orange longhorn on it, the
- 34:29Speaker 2: home uniform, the white pants, Texas across the chest. where
- 34:33Speaker 2: a lot of schools have nothing. Look, I'm from the
- 34:37Speaker 2: state of Tennessee. I believe that the Tennessee orange is
- 34:39Speaker 2: better than the burnt orange, but cannot argue with that
- 34:43Speaker 2: being a classic college football uniform. Oklahoma at number seven.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Don't need to say much about that one. Another one.
- 34:49Speaker 2: No stripe down the helmet, right? It's OU. It's solid
- 34:53Speaker 2: maroon up top. It's Sooners across the chest. It's great.
- 34:57Speaker 2: This is the one that's going to piss some people off.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Iowa at number six. My favorite color scheme is black
- 35:04Speaker 2: and gold or black and yellow in some form or fashion.
- 35:08Speaker 2: I love it. I love the Pittsburgh Steelers color scheme.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I love Vanderbilt's color scheme. I love Colorado's color scheme.
- 35:14Speaker 2: For that reason, the Iowa Hawkeyes, black and gold, black
- 35:18Speaker 2: and yellow, however you want to describe that second color
- 35:20Speaker 2: with them, with the Hawkeye on the helmet, I love it.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I don't love Iowa's punt-heavy strategy as a team, but
- 35:30Speaker 2: I do love their development of tight ends, and I
- 35:32Speaker 2: love that home uniform for Iowa. So they're number six
- 35:35Speaker 2: on my list. Michigan, number five, that helmet with the wings.
- 35:40Speaker 2: We all recognize it. We all know it. USC at home.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Even though they can't get anybody to go to their games,
- 35:46Speaker 2: if they did go to the games, they would see
- 35:48Speaker 2: a beautiful, traditional, old-school throwback uniform that continues to deliver
- 35:55Speaker 2: with that USC uniform. Notre Dame at number three, the
- 35:59Speaker 2: Golden Domers, the home uniform. I do like the alternate
- 36:02Speaker 2: green maybe even more than this uniform, but when you
- 36:05Speaker 2: see that Notre Dame uniform, you know what it's time for.
- 36:09Speaker 2: It makes you want to fire up a copy of
- 36:10Speaker 2: Rudy and go watch it every time you see Notre Dame.
- 36:13Speaker 2: It does. Hunting 2-1, to me, I could interchange.
- 36:17Speaker 1: It's 1A and 1B.
- 36:18Speaker 2: I think it's 1A and 1B, absolutely. Plain white helmet,
- 36:22Speaker 2: Penn State, Navy blue, the white pants, the whiteout games
- 36:27Speaker 2: they play where all you can see is the Navy
- 36:29Speaker 2: blue on the field.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Beautiful.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Beautiful. Makes me think about cold weather games. Makes me
- 36:35Speaker 2: think about Joe Pa. Makes me think about Kerry Tom Collins.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Makes me think about Kajana Carter back in the day.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I love, love, love those Penn State uniforms. And number one,
- 36:47Speaker 2: you're welcome to the next round live, guys. It's Alabama.
- 36:51Speaker 2: It's the number on the helmet. It's Bear Bryant. It's
- 36:54Speaker 2: the crimson uniforms. It's the white pants. Cannot go wrong
- 36:58Speaker 2: with that, even for Alabama haters out there. You have
- 37:01Speaker 2: to acknowledge the fact that that uniform, it still holds
- 37:05Speaker 2: up all these years later.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I like the list. A couple honorable mentions. Can I
- 37:10Speaker 1: throw some in?
- 37:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I wrote down Florida State.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yes.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Just because they're consistent. I feel like if I'm going
- 37:19Speaker 1: to a game, I can go ahead and presume the
- 37:22Speaker 1: color scheme I need to wear if I'm a fan.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I also like, speaking of consistent, how Florida State didn't
- 37:29Speaker 2: bow out to people not wanting the Tomahawk Chop to happen.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yes.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Remember like the Braves stopped it for a while, then
- 37:34Speaker 2: they brought it back. We were joking in that 2021
- 37:37Speaker 2: World Series run that the Chop was back at every
- 37:40Speaker 2: game going crazy and loud. It never stopped. The war
- 37:43Speaker 2: chant for Florida State. I'm watching the pregame against SMU
- 37:46Speaker 2: right before the power went out, and they're all doing
- 37:48Speaker 2: the war chant and the Chop and everything else. So
- 37:51Speaker 2: never went out of style with them.
- 37:52Speaker 1: What about A & M? Did you consider A & M?
- 37:54Speaker 2: A & M? While very traditional, they keep it very consistent.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Too much to me like Alabama and Oklahoma, who are better.
- 38:06Speaker 2: I think if you match up with another team like that,
- 38:08Speaker 2: you know what I mean? It's very similar. There's no
- 38:11Speaker 2: stripe down the middle. It's Alabama. It's Oklahoma. I've considered
- 38:18Speaker 2: A & M, but I'm not putting them on the list.
- 38:20Speaker 2: simply because it's too much like that. And I put
- 38:22Speaker 2: those two way ahead of A & M.
- 38:24Speaker 1: And I know we're thinking old school here, but Miami.
- 38:30Speaker 2: The Miami ones they have now, I know they're switching
- 38:32Speaker 2: to Nike. That's a big story. I think they were
- 38:34Speaker 2: with Adidas. Now they're going back to Nike. Um, the,
- 38:37Speaker 2: with the stripe on the sleeve, like I like that
- 38:40Speaker 2: as like the eighties Vinny Testaverde type Miami teams. Um, Yeah,
- 38:45Speaker 2: I would consider it. I just don't go back as
- 38:48Speaker 2: far with Miami. It's really kind of a 1980 and
- 38:51Speaker 2: beyond team. But sure, they would be under consideration. I
- 38:55Speaker 2: think the one that people have the biggest problem with
- 38:57Speaker 2: is going to be Iowa. If I had to pick
- 38:59Speaker 2: one out, they're not going to like Iowa.
- 39:01Speaker 1: As far as consistency, it would be Pitt. I would
- 39:03Speaker 1: throw Pitt in there as well. For teams that are
- 39:06Speaker 1: just not going to wear the crazy... Oregon started it,
- 39:11Speaker 1: but now Oregon is just kind of a part of
- 39:13Speaker 1: a group now. Everybody is kind of switching uniforms and
- 39:17Speaker 1: doing this and that. There's no old school approach anymore.
- 39:20Speaker 1: But this is the group that is. The consistent group
- 39:24Speaker 1: that's not going to mess with anything.
- 39:26Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Even Pitt, remember, changed their color scheme
- 39:29Speaker 2: for a while.
- 39:30Speaker 3: While.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Then they went back to the normal blue and yellow,
- 39:32Speaker 2: but they had that Vegas gold. I remember they called
- 39:35Speaker 2: it Vegas gold, navy blue and Vegas gold. So I
- 39:37Speaker 2: took them out for that reason. I mean, another one
- 39:39Speaker 2: that you could consider is Tennessee.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Tennessee.
- 39:41Speaker 2: At home. I mean, they do have the alternate uniforms
- 39:43Speaker 2: they wear, the black, the smoky gray. But the Tennessee
- 39:46Speaker 2: home uniform, the Tennessee helmet uniform, To me is the one.
- 39:49Speaker 2: I don't consider the uniform up to the old school
- 39:53Speaker 2: standard as these schools. But if you just said classic helmets,
- 39:58Speaker 2: the power T on the Tennessee helmet would probably be
- 40:00Speaker 2: in the top 10.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Keep this up, JT. Among these teams, which would you
- 40:04Speaker 1: be surprised the most if they swapped it up, Chad?
- 40:09Speaker 1: Surprised the most would be Bama or Penn State.
- 40:11Speaker 2: It's the top two. After that, Notre Dame.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Least surprised would be Ohio State.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I think the least surprise to me would probably be
- 40:22Speaker 2: Nebraska because they are kind of changing the font already
- 40:26Speaker 2: and doing some different things. That would be the least
- 40:28Speaker 2: surprise if they change it up. Michigan is high up there.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I don't ever see them changing that helmet. Notre Dame
- 40:34Speaker 2: is probably not going to put a decal on their
- 40:35Speaker 2: helmet ever. We know certain things are just never going
- 40:39Speaker 2: to happen. Notre Dame has not changed the plain gold helmet.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Penn State has not changed the plain white helmet. Alabama
- 40:45Speaker 2: is never going to permanently change the number on their helmet.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Texas won't put Sonic on their uniform. No. I remember
- 40:52Speaker 2: Texas at one point had numbers on their helmet also.
- 40:56Speaker 2: And when they wear alternates, they'll wear a number on
- 40:57Speaker 2: their helmet. That's still old school. Oh, yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 1: That's still as old school as it gets. Well done
- 41:03Speaker 1: on the top ten old school college football uniforms. The
- 41:06Speaker 1: depth chart for this week.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Quickly, Hutton, too, because people are asking, what am I watching?
- 41:13Speaker 2: What are the recommendations? Two TV shows I want to
- 41:15Speaker 2: recommend right now. I'm in a London state of mind.
- 41:18Speaker 2: I love these two shows. Two shows set in London
- 41:21Speaker 2: on different streamers right now. One is Slow Horses. I
- 41:27Speaker 2: beat the drum on this routinely every single year. Season
- 41:31Speaker 2: six has just dropped. It's one episode a week. It's
- 41:34Speaker 2: on Apple TV. Gary Oldman, legendary Oscar-winning actor, plays an overweight,
- 41:41Speaker 2: older spy... for England, for MI6, and he runs a
- 41:47Speaker 2: house called Slough House, which is basically all the rejects
- 41:51Speaker 2: of MI6. And he runs this group, and he's brilliant,
- 41:55Speaker 2: and he's great at his job of being a spy,
- 41:57Speaker 2: but it's based on a series of Mick Herron novels.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Every season is one book, and they have all the
- 42:02Speaker 2: same characters coming back in each one. Terrific show. The
- 42:07Speaker 2: guy who plays River Cartwright on the show, who's one
- 42:09Speaker 2: of the main characters, is Jack Loudon. He's now the
- 42:11Speaker 2: Vegas betting favorite to be the next James Bond.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 42:15Speaker 2: They shoot two seasons at a time. They're about to
- 42:18Speaker 2: shoot season eight. Six is about to air right now.
- 42:21Speaker 2: They already shot season seven. He is not in the
- 42:23Speaker 2: promo material for season eight. So the odds went up
- 42:27Speaker 2: that that is a sign that he is leaving that
- 42:29Speaker 2: show to become James Bond. He's a Scottish actor like
- 42:33Speaker 2: Sean Connery, the original James Bond. He's 36 years old.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Terrific actor, great part, and Gary Oldman is terrific in
- 42:41Speaker 2: the show. But Slow Horses, watch it. Go back in
- 42:44Speaker 2: season one. You can get in the flow of it.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Characters are hilarious. Awesome, awesome show. The other one is
- 42:50Speaker 2: The Gentleman on Netflix. The Gentleman is written by Guy Ritchie.
- 42:55Speaker 2: He directs some of the episodes. Guy Ritchie is who
- 42:57Speaker 2: I describe as British Taylor Sheridan with his shows. Very
- 43:01Speaker 2: similar thing. They're going to get into political discussions, societal issues,
- 43:05Speaker 2: and just have random conversations. But the characters are amazing
- 43:09Speaker 2: in the show. Theo James is the lead of it.
- 43:12Speaker 2: It is fantastic. It is British aristocracy. The settings they
- 43:18Speaker 2: shoot it at, the different estates, the huge mansions that
- 43:21Speaker 2: you get to see across England. And it deals with
- 43:24Speaker 2: a guy who is a duke. who owns a lot
- 43:26Speaker 2: of land in England, that grows marijuana on that land
- 43:30Speaker 2: and gets involved with a lot of different criminal enterprises
- 43:32Speaker 2: because he grows that marijuana on his land and all
- 43:35Speaker 2: the different things that happen with it. Great show. The
- 43:37Speaker 2: Gentleman on Netflix and Slow Horses just now launched season
- 43:42Speaker 2: six on Apple TV.
- 43:44Speaker 1: It's like Ozark with the Poppy Farms.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Similar. Different accent than Ruth in Ozark, for sure, on everyone.
- 43:52Speaker 2: And Jacob. Yeah, Jacob, the old farmer. It teaches. There's
- 43:57Speaker 2: the rare show that you learn about things when you
- 44:00Speaker 2: watch it. In this show, it's amazing the way the
- 44:02Speaker 2: cinematography is done because as they're describing how an industry works,
- 44:07Speaker 2: it'll draw it out for you on the screen. They'll
- 44:10Speaker 2: be talking about a business process. 70% of it is this.
- 44:13Speaker 2: It's someone sketching it out on the screen so you
- 44:15Speaker 2: can visually see what they're talking about. The way it's
- 44:19Speaker 2: shot is incredible. Also, something I learned about this season, falconry.
- 44:25Speaker 2: expensive falcons in the Middle East and how that is
- 44:29Speaker 2: a sport of kings in like Middle Eastern culture. And
- 44:33Speaker 2: there's a whole plot line with a missing falcon that's
- 44:35Speaker 2: worth like $ 50 million or something like that. That is
- 44:39Speaker 2: a stud falcon that breeds other champion falcons that they're
- 44:43Speaker 2: on the hunt for. But I'm learning about falconry on
- 44:46Speaker 2: the show also.
- 44:47Speaker 1: It's terrific.
- 44:48Speaker 2: I'm telling you, The Gentleman on Netflix, Slow Horses Apple TV,
- 44:52Speaker 2: go watch it. Trust me.
- 44:53Speaker 1: And somehow it always turns back to Will Forte, the Falconer,
- 44:57Speaker 1: on Saturday Night Live.
- 44:59Speaker 2: He has not had a cameo yet on the show,
- 45:01Speaker 2: but I'd love to see Will Forte appear in either
- 45:03Speaker 2: one of these shows.
- 45:04Speaker 1: The Falconer. There it is. I'm intrigued. I'm intrigued by
- 45:07Speaker 1: Slow Horses. That sounds very binge-worthy as well.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Slow Horses you'll like. Yeah, you can get through it.
- 45:13Speaker 2: They're like 35, 40-minute episodes usually. And the seasons are
- 45:16Speaker 2: all eight episodes, six or eight episodes. Get through them quick.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Each season tells one book story. You know, it's one
- 45:22Speaker 2: plot line usually. This latest season combines two different books.
- 45:27Speaker 2: I think the book is Joe Country and Sloughhouse are
- 45:31Speaker 2: the names of the two books. They combine into one.
- 45:33Speaker 2: There's like 16 or 17 of these books. So they
- 45:36Speaker 2: could be doing these for another, you know, six, seven
- 45:38Speaker 2: years if they wanted. But they shoot two seasons at
- 45:41Speaker 2: a time. So the moment one season ends, I've never
- 45:44Speaker 2: seen this before, but on Apple TV it rolls into
- 45:46Speaker 2: the trailer for the next season. So by the time
- 45:49Speaker 2: you get to the last episodes, the first time you
- 45:51Speaker 2: can see, it's like coming soon on Slow Horses. And
- 45:54Speaker 2: it's the whole next season already shot that you can
- 45:57Speaker 2: see a preview for once the one season ends. Love it.
- 45:59Speaker 2: I love it.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Me too. Coming up, our Hard Rock Lock of the Week.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Will Chad and I go with the same matchup, the
- 46:07Speaker 1: same game? Possible. It's very possible this week. But straight ahead,

- 46:45Speaker 1: rock locks of the week, Chad. Get us going. Let's
- 46:48Speaker 1: rock these again.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so going back to a tried and true method
- 46:53Speaker 2: here of fading the Tennessee Titans, which is a great
- 46:57Speaker 2: route to go. I made the mistake of betting on
- 46:58Speaker 2: the Titans, thinking, oh, it's the Jets. It's at home.
- 47:01Speaker 2: It's game one. They'll find a way to squeak by
- 47:04Speaker 2: the New York Jets. Instead, they got dominated. They're going
- 47:07Speaker 2: to get dominated again this weekend. Eagles coming to Nashville.
- 47:10Speaker 2: It's going to be 75-25 Eagles fans. in that stadium.
- 47:13Speaker 2: And there's also going to be 25,000 empty seats in
- 47:16Speaker 2: the stadium. That's my prediction for the game. And those
- 47:19Speaker 2: Eagles fans are going to be very happy because their
- 47:22Speaker 2: Philadelphia team is winning by more than seven points in
- 47:25Speaker 2: this game. Give me Eagles minus seven in Nashville. They're
- 47:30Speaker 2: taking care of business. Their fans are going to go
- 47:32Speaker 2: drain Broadway before and after the game. And they're going
- 47:35Speaker 2: to be very happy singing that stupid fight song they
- 47:38Speaker 2: have for the Eagles. Eagles minus seven is my hard
- 47:42Speaker 2: rock lock.
- 47:44Speaker 1: I like it. I like it so much. I'm staying
- 47:45Speaker 1: with that game. My lock of the week, Chad, I'm
- 47:49Speaker 1: taking the under 17 and a half total points for
- 47:52Speaker 1: the Tennessee Titans. They have averaged under 17 and a
- 47:55Speaker 1: half points. right at 17 points over the last four
- 47:59Speaker 1: years combined offensively. This is a team that didn't get
- 48:03Speaker 1: a touchdown in week one until garbage time. They can
- 48:06Speaker 1: only muster a field goal despite starting fast in the game,
- 48:10Speaker 1: which is what they do. They're traditionally fast starters over
- 48:13Speaker 1: the last several seasons with nothing to show for it
- 48:15Speaker 1: during the bulk of the game. If they score early,
- 48:19Speaker 1: I'm still not worried. I'm taking the under 17.5 total
- 48:22Speaker 1: points for the Titans. This is an offense that's going
- 48:25Speaker 1: nowhere fast. And I think this is another 1-800-ASSWIP, courtesy
- 48:31Speaker 1: of the Philadelphia Eagles. Titans starting 0-2, despite having a
- 48:36Speaker 1: schedule where they could win in September, they're focused more
- 48:39Speaker 1: on getting and improving. It's about where they're going, not
- 48:41Speaker 1: where they are. Talking more about December than September. That's,
- 48:45Speaker 1: to me, set up for disaster yet again. It could
- 48:48Speaker 1: be the under 17.5 total points. You could play this
- 48:50Speaker 1: every week, Jack. This could be our lock every single
- 48:52Speaker 1: week for hard rock.
- 48:54Speaker 2: The one thing that could mess up your bet is
- 48:56Speaker 2: some silly special teams touchdown or turnover or a pick
- 49:01Speaker 2: six or a fun recovery for a touchdown. That's the
- 49:04Speaker 2: one thing that I'd be worried about with that. I
- 49:06Speaker 2: can honestly say I'm not overly worried about the Eagles.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Maybe it's a push. Maybe they win by seven exactly.
- 49:14Speaker 2: But I'm not too worried about the Eagles not winning
- 49:16Speaker 2: by more than a touchdown when this game is said
- 49:18Speaker 2: and done.
- 49:18Speaker 1: There's our hard rock line. You can join us. You
- 49:22Speaker 1: can roll with us. Hardrock.bet.clay. Hardrock.bet.clay. Hope you'll join us
- 49:28Speaker 1: as we cash in on our locks of the week.
- 49:31Speaker 1: We were 2-0 last week. We'll make it that way again.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Did you see some of the responses to the tighten
- 49:37Speaker 1: up chant? That they did at the stadium this past week?
- 49:41Speaker 2: I did not, no.
- 49:42Speaker 1: This is real. These are all from Reddit, from Titans fans.
- 49:46Speaker 1: On Reddit, they have this new Titan Up chant that
- 49:48Speaker 1: they're trying to get going as they go into the
- 49:50Speaker 1: new stadium. They want this to be part of it.
- 49:52Speaker 1: It's not organic at all. The new Titan Up chant
- 49:55Speaker 1: resembled a pacing that was drawn out slow, drew widespread confusion.
- 50:00Speaker 1: The whole thing felt like one terrible corporate quarterly meeting,
- 50:03Speaker 1: said one fan. I left saying, what the F was that?
- 50:06Speaker 1: and almost gave the post-game survey as bad of a
- 50:08Speaker 1: rating as possible compared to what I saw in the field.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Failing to create a new chant, the most depressing thing
- 50:14Speaker 1: I've ever heard of, was another fan. I've literally never
- 50:18Speaker 1: experienced anything as bad as what I experienced in that
- 50:20Speaker 1: stadium today, even disregarding the putrid play on the field,
- 50:24Speaker 1: the weird-ass chants, the horrific music choices, their lack of
- 50:28Speaker 1: ability to generate any energy in the stadium whatsoever. I
- 50:31Speaker 1: literally walked out of the stadium at the end, looked
- 50:32Speaker 1: at my buddy and just said, What the F was that?
- 50:36Speaker 1: Neither of us could answer that question. I even think
- 50:40Speaker 1: the players are cringed out by it. There's another fan.
- 50:43Speaker 2: So the chant was in the stadium pregame? Like they
- 50:45Speaker 2: were trying to get people to do some chant before
- 50:47Speaker 2: the game?
- 50:48Speaker 1: So preseason, they had Delaney Walker on this video board
- 50:51Speaker 1: trying to explain what they were doing. They build up
- 50:55Speaker 1: on the first, second, third time they say it with
- 50:57Speaker 1: tighten up. And it's supposed to build up to a
- 50:59Speaker 1: big play. where everybody gets loud, and the final tighten-up
- 51:03Speaker 1: chant is where you get really loud, like a third-down
- 51:05Speaker 1: play or a big play in the game, going into
- 51:08Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, right before the game, whatever. They had
- 51:11Speaker 1: Javon Kearse come out and do this. And my message
- 51:14Speaker 1: to all former Titans players, do not be a part
- 51:17Speaker 1: of this chant. Do not sign up to do this,
- 51:20Speaker 1: because you will be a part of what is being
- 51:23Speaker 1: laughed at by fans. And it's just crickets. No one's
- 51:26Speaker 1: doing it, especially whenever you're right. It'll be 70% Eagles.
- 51:29Speaker 1: especially when the rest of the stadium has their own
- 51:32Speaker 1: chance for you. You know, J-E-T-S, Jeffs, Jeffs, Jeffs, was louder,
- 51:35Speaker 1: much louder than the tighten-up chance that no one knew
- 51:38Speaker 1: what they were doing. And it's the most unorganic thing
- 51:41Speaker 1: that they could have come up with. It's cheesy, and
- 51:43Speaker 1: the fans don't like it, especially whenever you're scoring three
- 51:45Speaker 1: points the majority of the game.
- 51:48Speaker 2: If they want to start getting atmosphere in that stadium,
- 51:49Speaker 2: they need to do what bowl games do and give
- 51:52Speaker 2: equal time to both sides. So this weekend you can
- 51:55Speaker 2: start by doing Philadelphia Eagles traditions during the game to
- 51:59Speaker 2: get their crowd into it. Play fly, Eagles fly after
- 52:02Speaker 2: a touchdown. You know, like a bowl game does. Like
- 52:04Speaker 2: they have the recordings, the band's fight songs, and you
- 52:07Speaker 2: go to an NCAA tournament game, Hutton, they're playing fight
- 52:10Speaker 2: songs over the speakers for both teams. They're doing their
- 52:12Speaker 2: pregame warmup. They're doing the other team's pregame warmup. I mean,
- 52:16Speaker 2: just give in to what you are. You are a
- 52:19Speaker 2: visiting team's destination to come in and get a win
- 52:23Speaker 2: and celebrate a weekend and have fun in a stadium
- 52:26Speaker 2: that's dying, that's about to be over with. Now is
- 52:29Speaker 2: not the time to start a ridiculous... inorganic chant before
- 52:35Speaker 2: a game. Why did they not think to start that
- 52:37Speaker 2: with a new stadium, even if they were going to
- 52:39Speaker 2: attempt something like that?
- 52:41Speaker 1: I think their goal was like, that's why they started
- 52:43Speaker 1: with the uniforms this year. Their goal was to have
- 52:46Speaker 1: the uniforms already being worn in the new stadium for
- 52:49Speaker 1: game one, instead of being purchased game one, they want
- 52:52Speaker 1: to go ahead and distribute those across a fan base.
- 52:54Speaker 1: And I think they want to have some of these, uh,
- 52:56Speaker 1: quote unquote traditions. And I put that in air quotes, uh,
- 53:01Speaker 1: these traditions already established going into the stadium where they
- 53:05Speaker 1: unveil everything and everything's kind of, everything's kind of organized,
- 53:09Speaker 1: so to speak. This is, it's falling flat on its
- 53:12Speaker 1: face because it's just, it's not cool. And they might
- 53:16Speaker 1: as well just have a marching band. The Titans should
- 53:18Speaker 1: have their own band. That would be much better and
- 53:22Speaker 1: bring a better atmosphere to an empty and dead Nissan stadium,
- 53:27Speaker 1: if not for the discounted tickets being sold. to opposing
- 53:31Speaker 1: fan bases. It's bad. It is. It's really terrible.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I would stop trying anything if I were the Titans
- 53:36Speaker 2: right now. Just shut it down for the season. Just
- 53:40Speaker 2: show up, play some music on the speaker. No sacrificial
- 53:44Speaker 2: lamb former Titans players coming in to do something stupid.
- 53:47Speaker 2: None of that. Just give some of your gate to
- 53:49Speaker 2: charity and call it a year. That's what I would
- 53:52Speaker 2: do if I was Titans marketing. Give up now.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Next round live coming up your way right now. We're
- 53:57Speaker 1: back at it for the Friday edition. We get you
- 53:59Speaker 1: ready for all the kickoffs right here on Hutton and
- 54:01Speaker 1: Withrow with Sport and State.
